The Truth about Cowboy Types
For most Americans in this age, the word cowboy will call to mind iconic images of a horseman
wearing a wide brimmed hat, a belt of bullets, and a flannel shirt; he might be guiding his herd
lazily along grassy plains, singing folk songs around a campfire with his companions under a
starry sky, riding off with a beautiful ranch girl into an iconic sunset backdrop, or even wearing a
mask and enforcing vigilante justice in a small town terrorized by hardened westernthugs or hostile
Native Americans. These clichГ©s are drawn mostly from the hundreds of movies and television
productions that claim the title Western . This cinematic conception of the cowboy was a
personification of the American spirit of rugged individualism and intrepid pioneering but it is
largely only the result of Hollywood westerns of the 20th century, and not consistent with the actual
reality of cowboy life.
While there were many different types of cowboys spread across the Americas with drastically
different lifestyles, mannerisms, reputations, and backgrounds, by far the most easily recognized
are the Anglo cowboys of the American West, and the Mexican vaqueros. As the eastern cattle
herding practices spread further west, and Mexican vaqueros moved north, they met in the
American western frontier; Moving further west to the semi arid plains, the habits and techniques
of southeastern Anglo cowboys changed substantially under the influence of Mexico s vaqueros
(Slatta 18). Though from opposite

The English Government s Influence On American Colonists
The English Government had a big influence on American Colonists. When Colonists first settled in
the new land they were free, but had no government to protect them. They got close to a
government when England said they can make their own government to rule themselves. The
English Government had influenced American Colonist in 3 ways, the right to make their own
Government,English BIll of rights, and the Proclamation of 1763. First, England wanted to let
American Colonists make their own Government and they did. The colonist from colonies in
Massachusetts made their Government around religious ideas, in Pennsylvania made theirs around
religious tolerance, and Virginia made the first elected government call the House of Burgess. At

A Brief Look at Jasper Johns
Artist Introduction
Jasper Johns was born in Augusta, Georgia on May 15, 1930. He is still alive today known for
his paintings and printmaking. During his childhood, he lived with his father s grandparents due
to his parents marriage ending. His only introduction to art as a child was of paintings in his
grandfather s house of his grandmother who had died. He then moved around among with his aunt
then his mother throughout his teenage years, and then finally graduated high school in Sumter
South Carolina as valedictorian of his class. After high school, Jasper then spent little time
enrolled at the University of South Carolina, and later directed his education to New York City
studying at the Parsons School of Design. A few years later he was drafter to Sendai, Japan to
fight during the Korean War in 1952. Two years later, he came back to New York where he met his
partner, Robert Rauschenberg. Jasper s art career began when he discovered the world of
contemporary art sharing views with Merce Cunningham and John Cage. His work was revealed at
Rauschenberg s studio to Leo Castelli, a gallery owner who gave Jasper his first solo show in 1958.
This led to his pieces being bought by the founder of New York s Museum of Modern Art. Later in
1963, Johns and Cage both founded the Foundation of Contemporary Performance Arts in New
York City, which is now known today as the Foundation of Contemporary Arts.

Treatment Of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Essay
With the use of several different search engines such as Medline, UpToDate, The new England
journal of medicine, 2015 Toronto Notes, and Google scholar. The information was gathered using
several key wards such as anterior cruciate ligament injury, anterior cruciate ligament treatment,
anterior cruciate ligament rehabilitation.
The first study reviewed was a randomized control trial of treatment for ACL tears by, Frobell,
Roos, Roos, Ranstam, Lohmander (2010)
The two treatment modalities were early surgical treatment with rehabilitation, and aggressive early
rehabilitation; with the option for later surgery if needed. This compares the major differences in
thought on treatment of anterior cruciate ligament injuries between surgical and non surgical.
(Frobell, Roos, Roos, Ranstan, Lohmander, 2010)
This study was a randomized control trial in patients of 18 to 35 years of age, who presented to an
emergency department with recent rational knee trauma to a previously uninjured knee within the
last four weeks. Anterior cruciate ligament insufficiency was determined by clinical exam, and a
score of five to nine on a tenner activity scale before the injury. 5 indicating participation in
recreational sports and nine representing competitive sports. Possible participants were excluded if
they had a full thickness rupture seen on magnetic resonance imaging, or if they have had a
previous knee injury. (Frobell, Roos, Roos, Ranstan, Lohmander, 2010)

Dante s Concept of Sin and Judgment in The Inferno
Infidelity, murder, betrayal, and conspiracy all play an integral part in the story of the relationship
between Jason and Medea. Jason is guilty of all four acts and Medea involves herself in three. Yet,
perhaps, in the eyes of Dante, Medea might fall further into the realm of Dis than Jason. But,
should she? And, is Dante s view of Jason and his sentence in Hell appropriate?
From Dante s perspective, crimes of passion or desire are the least abhorrent and consequently
deserve minimal punishment in comparison to what he believes are the more serious offenses.
These sinners, the carnal, the gluttonous, the hoarders and wasters, along with the wrathful and ...

Violence without consideration, striking out at another in anger, frustration, hatred or selfish
ambition is inherent in the nature of these actions. Accordingly Dante interprets them as being less
detrimental to one s being than crimes of thought and meditation.
In Dante s view the next circle of sin consists of acts of fraud. He classifies these sinners as
seducers and panderers, flatterers, simoniacs, fortune tellers, grafters, hypocrites, thieves, evil
counselors, sowers of discord, and counterfeiters or falsifiers. These are the souls who in life
betrayed the confidence of another. They preyed on other people solely for gain and knowingly
deceived without concern for their victims psyche or physical being.
Yet Dante does not stop here. He further complicates fraud by adding the realm of compound
fraud. Souls found in this circle of Hell did not betray just a stranger or acguaintance, but rather
twisted the confidence of someone who loved and/or respected them. They defiled their own kin
or country. They either took advantage of guests or of a host, perhaps within his own home. And,
falling closest to the pit of Hell (and Lucifer) are those souls who betray the confidence of their
lord or benefactor. All these unfortunate shadows of life are those who consciously sought to gain
by lying to or by committing an act of treachery against someone who holds a special place in their
life; someone who, in some way, they are

Investigations should be conducted by audit committees rather than management if there is any
possibility of the involvement of top management or the matter may be embarrassing to the

Elizabeth Gaskell s Construction Of The Ideal Man
In Victorian Britain, monumental changes were occurring in regards to class structure and gender
ideals due to social and economic changes sparked by the Industrial Revolution. These changes
caused a new image of masculinity to emerge. The concept of masculinity came to embody a new
ideal, self made man, measured by advances based on personal success rather than birthright(M19).
It was expected that men were to exude manly toughness and independent spirit while providing the
financial support and leadership for the household(m19). Beyond these basic characteristics,
Elizabeth Gaskell s construction of the ideal man incorporates a fusion of gendertraits as strengths
of masculinity, notably her emphasis on manly nurturance and tenderness as seen in her novel
Mary Barton(wcm334). While the evolving social structure of 19th century Britain was a cause for
the increasing emphasis on manliness, it was also the source of challenges faced by working class
men as they struggled to achieve and maintain this new sense of masculinity. By analyzing Gaskell
s Mary Barton and additional texts from the period, supplemented by contemporary analysis of the
concept of masculinity, this paper provides insight into the constructions of masculinity in working
class men of Victorian society and discusses the struggles workers faced as they strove to achieve
manhood amidst the changing social climate.
In order to understand the difficulty working class men encountered trying to maintain a

Donald Trump A Good President
Around the world, influential people are impacting lives for eternity and earning themselves the
title of an icon. From famous celebrities to the closest friends, people are being affected by others
actions in unimaginable ways. Over the past year, I was able to witness one of the most
controversial elections in American history. Each candidate could be viewed as a role model, but
only one stood out the most to me: Donald Trump. Donald Trump, an American businessman and
now the 45th President of the United States, has a mindset of his own. Not only does Trump speak
his mind in an unfiltered manner, he also suppresses every obstacle that arises. The pure
determination of Trump allowed himself to deteriorate his opponents and also win the Presidency.
Because of Trump s intelligence and perseverance, I view him as an inspiring figure to not only
myself, but also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite being known as the constant underdog to his opponent, the misleading fake news, and
his stressful past that surfaced: Trump was elected the 45th President on the night of November
8, 2016. By overcoming the odds, Trump can be viewed a fighter who will never be known as a
failure. These specific actions have inspired me because this result is a perfect example of why
to never quit. Instead of being a person who quits because difficult situations are interfering with
the process of becoming successful, Trump became a positive example of what is earned when
becoming a fighter. In addition to inspiring myself to never give up, Trump ran for a political
office when he himself had absolutely no political experience. The key feature of this is that Trump
has taught me that no matter what the circumstance is, I can always become whatever I set my
dreams towards. This inspires me because it teaches me to push more boundaries to a further extent

The Main Features Of A Bureaucracy And The Scientific...
King and Lawley (2013, p.601) stated that rationalisation can be defined as increasing the efficiency
and reducing costs within a business, this idea incorporates the aspects of a bureaucracy and the
scientific design of work). Within a rational organisation, bureaucracies are created through the
implementation of policies and procedures which makes the organisation standardised, predictable
and efficient. Organisations such as Junction hotel might consider adopting the key features of
rationalisation, for example within a bureaucracy a hierarchy is created, this shows clear lines of
communication within departments. King and Lawley (2013) show that within Junction hotel the
organisational structure lacks span of control as Linda Wilkinson is in charge of 34 employees This
was improved by making the span of control more manageable by delegating control through
management, different departments can be created, within each department there is a head
employee who was in charge of more staff. As an organisation grows, the number of employee s
increases, therefore Fayols five functions of management are implemented through impersonal
control rather than direct face to face control. In contrast to rationalisation, King and Lawley
(2013) describe the social organisation as a belief that the key factors in shaping an individual
within the workplace are the social interactions between people. King and Lawley (2013) state that
the findings from Hawthorne studies have been credited

Casey And Goliath Similarities
In the poem Casey at the bat and the story David and Goliath there are similarities and
differences. The characters Casey and David have similarities. One of these similarities is that
they are both confident. In David and Goliath it says, Today the Lord will help me defeat you. I
ll knock you down and cut off your head, and I ll feed the bodies of the other Philistine soldiers
to the birds and wild animals. This shows that David is confident that the lord will help him kill
Goliath. In Casey at the bat it says, Close by the sturdy batsman the ball unheeded sped That ain t
my style, said Casey. This shows that because Casey was confident he thought that the way the ball
was thrown wasn t his style. The next similarity between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In David and Goliath it says, The king is offering a big reward to the man who kills Goliath. That
man will even get to marry the king s daughter, and no one in his family will ever have to pay
taxes again. This shows why David wanted to try and kill Goliath. The last similarity is that both
characters are brave. In Casey at the bat it says, That ain t my style, said Casey. Strike one, the
umpire said. Also it says, But Casey still ignored it, and the umpire said, Strike two. This shows
that Casey is brave because he let two of the three balls go by him. In David and Goliath it says
that David goes out there with only a piece of wood while Goliath has a sword and shield. This
proves that David is brave because He went to kill someone with a sword, with a piece of wood
and a rock. Both of the characters also have many things that make them different. The first thing
that makes them different is that Casey had many cheering fans to help with his confidence
whereas no one was cheering for David. In the poem Casey at the bat it states, And when,
responding to the cheers, he lightly doffed his hat, No stranger in the crowd could doubt twas

Persuasive Essay On Acting In Hollywood
What do you want to be when you grow up? is a question that children get asked quite frequently.
Most of the time, a child aims big and chooses an extravagant career, like an astronaut, a police
officer, or a doctor. Obviously, it is impossible for a child to obtain one of those jobs at such a
young age. However, acting in Hollywood is a possible career for a child. If a child is talented
enough to be a star, then why not let them pursue their passion? While the life of being an actor
in Hollywood seems like a dream to most children, fame comes with many terrible obstacles for
some stars. Over the years, there has been a large debate on whether or not acting in Hollywood
as a child is as picture perfect as it seems. Hollywood is filled with tons of secrets. Why should a
child be put into such an untrustworthy environment? Acting in Hollywood is in no way safe for
children. News outlets are full of stories about former child stars who have gone wild. Some
stars develop destructive partying habits at a young age. How do young, innocent stars learn
about the use of drugs and alcohol? They are invited to big Hollywood parties where they are
introduced to substances that lead to addiction. During adolescence, a child is still learning who
they are and love to experiment. Experimentation is healthy for a young mind, but substances like
drugs and alcohol can affect a developing mind negatively. Addiction is a tough obstacle to
overcome, but it is even more difficult to defeat

An Unhealthy System Of The United States And Without...
According to Hagop Kantarjian, we rank 70 out of 132 countries An Unhealthy System (2). With
that being said its shows that we do not have the best, but that were also in the lower half of the
chain. Many probably think how is that so, but the fact of the matter is that it is just so costly for
good healthcare in our great country of the United States and without insurance, it makes it nearly
impossible to pay for any medical expenses that we may face. Many would argue that we do
have the best health care, and I would say they are not completely wrong, but where we fall short
is that it is too expensive and more times than not people often make poor choices in taking care
for their body even though there are ways to do so. I feel we could make drastic strides in
moving up this ranking system by if we simply just changed our diets and made a little time to
work out. This would go a long way in keeping your body feeling well and keeping costs down
when you would be going to the doctor for checkups. This quote right here was something that I
said right when we were assigned this paper and completely agree with what this doctor has to
say. W. Allen Schaffer says it best; it depends on what we mean by best . If someone is fortunate
enough to be part of an employer sponsored plan, he or she may have access to the best health care
technology in the world. But the fact that we have so many uninsured in this country is a national
disgrace. Do we really have the best health

Psychological Factors Affecting Social Isolation
Social Isolation Social isolation may be defined as the absence of social interaction, contacts,
and relationships with family and friends, with neighbors on an individual level, and with
society at large on a broader level. Social isolation is considered a risk factor in the development
of disease and the disabilities that can occur in the course of an existing disease. Social support
may be defined as the resources provided by other persons including emotional social, physical,
financial, and other types of care (Institute of Medicine, 1992). Social isolation may be measured
by the strength of an older person s existing social network. The absence or weakness of the social
support network forms the basis for identifying individuals who are socially isolated. According to
Krishnamoorthi (2011) social isolation of the chronically ill and elderly is a costly problem. When
the unmanaged chronic illness of the socially isolated becomes acutely worsened, mortality rates
are higher and serious functional and mental debilitation requires total care from the system. Data
indicates there is an increased risk that social isolation silently has for acute and chronic disease.
Researchers have found that the absence of social relationships or those of low quality are
independent predictors of all cause mortality, even when controlling for baseline health status.
Animal studies have found that social isolation lead to stressful biochemistry, through elevation of

Review Questions for Microeconomic Concepts
CHAPTER 6
Review Questions:
6 2 What is the term structure of interest rates, and how is it related to the yield curve?
Term structure interest rate is a rate which relates the interest rate or rate of return to the time to
maturity.
The yield curve is a graph of relationship between the debt s remaining time to maturity and its yield
to maturity. Term structure of interest rate can be shown graphically by yield curve. The shape of the
yield curve will show the useful ways to future interest rate expectation.
6 3 For a given class of similar risk securities, what does each of the following yield curves reflect
about interest rates: (a) downward slopping; (b) upward slopping; and (c) flat? Which form has
been historical dominant?
For a given class of similar risk securities, A downward yield curve shows cheaper long term
borrowing lists than the short term borrowing lists (inverted yield curve). Upward yield curves
represent cheaper short term borrowing lists than the long term borrowing lists (normal yield
curve). The flat one shows similar borrowing costs for both short term and long term loans.
6 4 Briefly describe the following theories of general shape of the yield curve: (a) expectation
theory; (b) liquidity preference theory; and (c) market segmentation theory. Expectation theory
implies that the yield curve reflects investors expectation about the future interest rate and inflation.
Higher the future inflation rate, higher the long term

Hells Influence In Dante s Inferno
Hell s Influence
(An analysis of whether or not hell is a legitimate propaedeutic for moral behavior through the study
of Dante s Inferno)
Go to Hell... a phrase we hear often. From the time we are young, the pastors and preachers of
the various churches we attend dictate our behavior by threatening us. They tell us continually
that if we don t follow the commandments of God at all times and in all places, we are going to go
to Hell. The only way to avoid it is to repent of all of our sins and never repeat those sins again.
Dante Alighieri was one of the first people to explore the punishments that are given in Hell. After
he was exiled from Florence, Dante used the time to write his Divine Comedy. This poem is
separated into three different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the second circle the lustful are punished by losing control as they are swept into an intense
wind. The fifth circle punished the wrathful as the attack and eat each other. Both of these
punishments are terrifying and a legitimate propaedeutic for moral behavior because they are both
sins that seem insignificant, but still have horrible and aggressive punishments. The sixth circle
holds the heretics entombed in fire, also a legitimate propaedeutic for moral behavior because it
makes every request and statement against God seem much more extreme as it could land them in
this terrible circle of Hell. Dante s ideas were accepted and even revered by the rest of the world
when they realized just how legitimate of a propaedeutic Inferno was for good moral behavior. As
Susan Blow explains in her analysis of Dante s Inferno, His poem is not individual but universal;
he utters not his own thought, but the unformulated creed of Christendom. (Blow) Christians
obviously loved Dante s story and even began using it and the ideas shown in it to terrify all the

deprives them of lifes beauty. The theme first appears in the story during the exhibition. The
narrator, Lizabeth, is describing her life as a young person during the great depression. She says,
I suppose that the futile waiting was the sorrowful background music of our impoverished little
community when I was young (Collier 422). She describes the waiting for relief from poverty as

The Horror Of Horror Movies Essay
Horror isn t a Single Genre You re sitting in a dark room with your eyes glues to the television
screen, bowl of popcorn sitting loosely in your lap. On the screen is a dark shadowy figure
chasing a woman throughout a house and watching this scene is making your heart pound out
of your chest. This is the feeling you get when you typically watch a horror movie, you feel like
you re about to explode due to the tension on screen. There are many subgenres of horror movies
and it seems like most people lump them all in to one category, but today we won t be doing
that. We will be touching on various subgenres of the horror universe: slasher films, body horror,
giallo, and zombie films. Slasher films are frightfully delicious and when the genre comes to
mind all I can think about is a super predictable good time! Slasher films are, as said by Sarah
Trencansky, those horror movies that consist of a monster or maniac stalking and/or killing a
succession of people, usually teenagers (64). I couldn t have said it better myself. The slasher
genre is also riddled with a countless number of series such as the Hellraiser series, Nightmare
on Elmstreet, and the most notable, The Halloween series. A great example would be from
Halloween II when Michael Myers is on a killing spree inside of a desolate hospital late on
Halloween night. One of the nurses goes out in the parking lot to leave only to discover that every

My Experience With My Dad
I grew up in the central part of San Antonio, a small little white house with paint chipping all
over. The neighborhood I lived in was of much lower class. Both of my parents worked a lot; my
dad was in the military so he was not around very often. My mom worked at Citibank with a
somewhat regular work schedule. Every morning she would drop me off at my grandma s, and I
would stay with my grandma between 8 and 6 every day. My grandma spoke mainly Spanish,
but growing up my parents kept my first language as English and never spoke to me in Spanish
so it was very hard for me to communicate with my grandma especially if she forgot to tell me
what she was saying in English. Over time I just really wanted to understand what she was
saying so I would ask her to teach me things in Spanish. Every day we would sit down over lunch
and my grandma would write on a piece of paper different words in Spanish and teach me how to
communicate the basics with people who only spoke Spanish. It helped a lot, I was able to
understand what she would tell me and even sometimes speak with her in Spanish. Every night
my mom would read to me, the same book Love You Forever. She would read it to me so much
that even though I couldn t read yet I had it memorized almost like I was reading it. My mom
would always say that she wished her mom read to her every night when she was younger, but she
never did. Every weekend my mom was off from work, so every Saturday morning she would

Alligator Vs Crocodile Compare And Contrast
Alligator vs crocodile Many people get the Alligator and the Crocodile confused.Yes there are
some similarities but there is ways to tell the difference. Even though many people can not tell
the difference between the two there are many differences like the alligator has a little bit
brighter color on their skin. One of the main ways that you can tell an alligator and a crocodile
apart is the nose or the snout. On an alligator the nose of the animal is more of a u shape.
Another way is the crocodile teeth stick out of its mouth when its mouth is closed. They both
have really sharp teeth and a lot of power in their bite. The average length of a crocodile is a

To avoid such a catastrophe he must come across as a miser. Eventually he will prove he is not as
greedy as eh was thought to be. Once this is evident he can protect himself and wage war without
raising taxes and stressing his subjects. Therefore, it is actually better for him to be miserly than
generous. Machiavelli thinks it is better for the prince to be feared than loved. For a prince who is
loved will be compassionate towards others, mainly his soldiers. When danger is at bay his men
will hold him in the highest regard. Should an attack occur they will very quickly turn their
backs on him. He may be viewed as weak and untrustworthy, thus easier to overtake. As he
explains, And men are less hesitant about harming someone who makes himself loved than one
who makes himself feared because love is held together by a chain of obligation which, since
men are a sorry lot, is broken on every occasion in which their own self interest is concerned: but
fear is held together by dread of punishment which will never abandon you (p.46). If he is loved
rather than hated he can never keep an army of soldiers under his command. However, he must
not be so feared to the point he is hated to do so he must not take what does not belong to him,
and keep his hands off the wives of his subjects. According to Machiavelli, as wise Prince will not
keep his word if the circumstances for which he made that promise are no longer relevant.

Borges The Garden Of Forking Paths
From main ideas to details, the mention of time is the essence of Borges story, The Garden of
Forking Paths, and is its central theme. The story begins by discussing dates and timing of a
military attack and ends by mentioning the prior day s bombing of the artillery. The idea of time is
essential to the story in many ways, but especially the sequence of events told by Yu Tsun. When he
first hears that Runeberg has been killed, he goes into thought about timeand how it affects man;
Was I now going to die? Then I reflected on everything that happens to a man precisely, precisely
now. Centuries of centuries and only in the present do things happen... (Borges 653). This passage,

The story is about an angel who looks like a sickly elderly man with wings. Readers see how the
people of the neighborhood treat the angel throughout the story. They throw things at him, keep
him in a chicken coop, make him a freak show attraction, and treat him like a wild animal.
However, on the last page of the story, I found a passage that I consider significant to the story.
The owner of the house and property on which the angel fell, Pelayo, offers some humane
treatment to the angel. [The angel] could scarcely eat and his antiquarian eyes had also become
so foggy that he went bumping into posts. All he had left were the bare cannulae of his last
feathers. Pelayo threw a blanket over him and extended him the charity of letting him sleep in the
shed (Marquez 932). Here, after the angel had been a caged spectacle, Pelayo finally treats the
angel as he would a human, not an animal. The theme for this story could be humanity, or lack there

Sacred Heart Cathedral Essay
The Sacred Heart Cathedral is of the Roman Catholic religion. The Roman Catholic church was
created when the Eastern and Western churches divided in 1054, with the Roman Catholic church
coming from the Western church (Matlins). Coming from a Methodist background, I found Roman
Catholicism interesting because out of the various Christian denominations Roman Catholicism
appeared to differ the greatest from the Protestant and Orthodox sectors of Christianity(Brodd). It is
intriguing that one religion can have various practices and ways of worship. After and during MassI
was able to compare the Methodist religion and Roman Catholic religion to each other. Through
formulating questions and expectations, observation, listening, and taking in... Show more content

As I entered the cathedral the first observation I made was that the congregation was wearing
various clothing. Some individuals were dressed in formal attire, which I was expecting, but
others were dressed in shorts, T shirts, and sneakers. This was surprising to me because I had
thought that attending Mass was a formal occasion. There were greeters at the entrance of the
Cathedral making everyone feel welcomed and passing out bulletins. I was amazed by the
intricacy of the inside of the cathedral! The ceiling of the cathedral reminded me of the ceiling of
the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo. Before the service started, I awed at the ceiling and the
stained glass windows. The stained glass windows were vibrant in color and intricate in design.
Throughout the cathedral there were statues of various important Christian figures. I assumed that
the statues were either of Jesus, the Virgin Mary, various saints, or individuals from the Old
Testament because Matlins and Magida discuss how these statues are prominent in Roman
Catholic cathedrals (Matlins). I know for a fact that one of the statues was indeed Jesus because it
was a statue of him hanging on the cross. Like my church, there were pews for the congregation to
sit in; however, what was different was that there were benches for the congregation to kneel on.
According to Matlin and Magida, these benches are

Booker Palmer And The Legend Of Bagger Vance
Parker Palmer and the Legend of Bagger Vance both connect with one another to better further our
understanding of the vocational method. Palmer s definition of vocation contains three key
components to it. These components are; who am I? Whose am I? and distractions to our vocation.
These three components help us to go deeper into trying to find our vocationand our understanding
of what vocation is. These same three components are located in the Legend of the Bagger Vance.

All we got to do is get ourselves out of its way, to let it choose us (The Legend of Bagger Vance).
Bagger in this is illustrating that our authentic swing is what we are born with, our original
selfhood who we are called to be, and is unique to you only. Bagger stresses this once again by
saying, Now play the game. Your game. The one that only you was meant to play. The one given
to you when you was born (The Legend of Bagger Vance). Bagger is ultimately stresses the same
points that Parker Palmer is. Both Palmer and Bagger and saying that we have an original
selfhood we were born with and area called to find and become, and this is unique to the individual
alone no one else. Both these ideas coincide with one another to help illustrate the idea of Who Am
I in the vocational method.
The Legend of Bagger Vance and Palmer both illustrate the aspect of whose am I? Palmer
describes the theme of whose am I as an idea of relationships and how our relationshops affect our
vocation. Palmer illustrates this when he says, For there is no selfhood outside relationship
(Palmer). We cannot become our true self without understanding our relationships. We need
relationships to help us find out more of who we are as well as we need this relationships to
sometimes help to guide us and grow us. This same idea of relationships is illustrated throughout
the Legend of Bagger Vance. This example can be found in

Argumentative Essay About Technology
Technology: a word and concept that dates back to the dawn of humanity. Over the ages, it has
taken the form of useful innovations that comforted us or helped us stay alive. Blankets, plows,
pots, and the scientific method were all considered grand, novel technologies at their inception. Still
greater feats will become possible as new technology emerges. In spite of the benefits that
technology has brought to persons and society, countless present day self imposed Technical
regulations, and technology s ability to help us solve present day problems, many argue that
technology serves only to trip over its own feet, creating additional, unnecessary problems clearly,
they could not be more mistaken. Technology has shown its ability to benefit humanity in manners
greater than simply providing convenience. This is especially apparent in the industrial revolution,
where technology was a source of positive reforms concerning societies and lifestyles. During the
industrial revolution, humans became capable of manufacturing high quality goods in huge
volumes with little effort, [Armed with the] mass production of goods, traditional agricultural

Stereotypes Of Disney Stereotypes
Apart from the stereotypes, recent Disney princesses have been counteracting the stereotypical
images of a Disney princess. They are no longer waiting around for their prince to come and be

they can be independent and that they don t always need a man (Bowser n.p.). The portrayal of love

Nile River in northeastern Africa, it seems that people in Egypt had religious freedom because the
overall Egyptian religion was based on polytheism. Polytheism is the worshiping of many
deities. With well over 2,000 gods and goddesses, the people of Egypt had plenty of super
human beings to worship such as the farmers along the Nile who worshiped Hapi, the god of the
Nile, to bring them floods to fertilize their soil for crops. Along with their pharaoh who was seen
as the most powerful person in the kingdom because he was considered to be half man, half god;
he was the people of Egypt s connection to the many gods they served.

Medieval Oppression Of Women
Over the medieval period oppression of women has been a problem and has not been solved up to
now. Various movements have taken place against these dilemmas but they still exist in our nation
and while they prevail they ve given an upswing to problems and instances of obnoxious behavior.
Women have been unjustly held back from achieving full equality for much of human history. In
the novel The Palace of Illusions , Princess Panchali said He was always trying to discourage me
from attending Dhri s lessons and he wasn t the only one. At first, no matter how much I begged,
King Drupad had balked at the thought of me studying with my brother. A girl being taught what a
boy was supposed to learn? Such a thing had never been heard of in the royal family of Panchal!
Dhai Ma denied Panchali of accessing the lessons that Dhri was learning as she believed that they
were making her argumentative and too manlike in her speech.
Practices followed during the medieval period showed us the predominant injustice of our times is
the widespread, tyrannical oppression of women. The feudal society of the time encouraged Sati
which meant self immolation of the widow. By burning herself on the pyre of her husband, she
proves her loyalty. Even the child widows were not spared from this gruesome ... Show more

My Beautiful Laundrette By Stephen Frear
Stephen Frear s film, My Beautiful Laundrette portrays the struggle of intersecting sexuality,
ethnicity, class, race and power. Omar, son of a Pakistani immigrant, is attracted to Johnny, a white
English male. Their attraction and the subsequent relationship is looked down upon, both in
England and Pakistan. Omar works for his uncle who lets him take over a laundrette in London
while Johnny is initially unemployed and eventually works for Omar. Together, they make the
laundrette a successful business venture and a place where they can freely express their desire for
each other. The film seeks to highlight a progressive society in England during Margaret Thatcher s

The accountants building is more like a watchdog and a representation of how the events that
unfold inside and around the laundrette are all part of the new liberal Britain. Nasser refers to
the laundrette as a place where Omar can use a little water to clear his brain. What was crowding
Omar s mind when he was merely a young man waiting to go to college with seemingly nothing
to bother him? The scene suggests the presence of something that oppresses Omar and the
presence of the laundrette as a refuge, a place for him to clear his brain a space where queer
bodies can express their desire. The sounds of water in the background echoes this. Water is
used to represent cleansing, life, and freedom in films (Shane Brown 2016). The sound of water
in the laundrette becomes a symbol of characters in stories handling difficult life scenarios, a
symbol of power in stories and can free characters as well as claim them (ibid). The laundrette is
equivalent to what Gopinath describes as the diaspora a space of freedom (Gopinath pg 14). In the
next scene, I m going to analyze, we see Johnny from a high angle shot, finishing the renovation
the laundrette, now called Powders. The word powders can be translated to mean fine, dry particles
produced by the grinding, crushing, or disintegration of a solid substance (Oxford Dictionary).

Comparing Cuckoo And Can T Help Falling In Love
The two songs that I will be analyzing have many differences that I have come across while
analyzing. The first song is an Austrian folk song called Cuckoo . You can tell this is a folk
song from the vivid story telling in the lyrics that lead to a yodel. The second song is an
American pop song called Can t Help Falling in Love which was written by George David Weiss,
Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore and made most famous by Elvis Presley for the album/soundtrack
Blue Hawaii in 1961. The main similarity between these two songs is that they have certain
rhythms that get repeated multiple times. The two songs have different time signatures. Cuckoo
has a compound meter with short and quick notes whereas Can t Help Falling in Love has a simple
meter with more long notes. The folk songhas a narrow melodic range that stays in a single octave
from D4 to D5 and is diatonic. There is no clear climax to this song and has more of a disjunct
motion by having at least one leap in every other measure. The melodic contour of this song is
pretty repetitive for the most part. Each measure is in an arch motion which would make every
phrase more like a wave. The song also does not shy away from repetition. Almost every measure is

Decade Of The Brain Essay
The human brain has been largely a topic of discussion in recent decades, so much so that the
1990s became known as the Decade of the Brain . This is due to the extensive amount of research
able to be conducted due to advancing technology; however there still remains debate on many
aspects of thought, cognition, and overall consciousness that we see as being alive and human.
Though many answers remain shrouded in mystery, scientists are able to deduce one piece of
important information: neurotransmitters play a vital role in emotions and mood felt from person
to person. These chemicals, when put blatantly, are responsible for how we feel and think on a
daily basis. Essentially these neurotransmitters define who we are as individuals because they give
the ability to feel and react. This process is not always a perfect science at times though, and as
researchers are finding out, that these immensely important chemicals can also cause harm
alongside all the benefits they bring to a person s process of thought.

Analysis Of Any Hope Of Ever Seeing You Again By Eugenio...
Eugenio Montale was an Italian poet who was named the Greatest Italian poet since Leopardi
(Hecht). He was a hopeless romantic and that translated into his poetry and was the theme for
most of it aswell, and the poem Any Hope of Ever Seeing you Again is no exception. The poem
Any Hope of Ever Seeing you Again portrays two different sides to a story and can be interpreted
in many ways due to its style of writing.
Eugenio Montale was born in Genoa in 1896. In WWI he wa an infirmary worker and later chief
literary critic for Italy with the Corriere Della Sera. He was a music critic, translator and was made
a lifetime member of the Italian Senate in 1967. He also won the Nobel Prize in Literature in
1975. He died six years later in Milan, 1981. In 1927 he fell in love with a married woman who
he nicknamed Mosca which means fly. It is believed that this was borrowed from Ben Jonson s
Volpone. Montale stayed devoted to her until her husband died in 1958. They were married until
Mosca died five years later. He also met an American author named Irma Brandeis who influences
some of his work, which mostly revolves around unattainable love. She made him feel better
through the Fascist years, so when they became separated, he used what he was feeling and put it
into poetry.
Montale wrote his poetry during an era where the theme amor de lonh, love from afar, was
popular, which is also tied to donna angelicata or angelic lady. Donna angelicata is mostly tied to
communication attempts to an allusive lover. His poems are often really personal, including a
lady figure with many names, some of which including Gertu, Liuba, Vixen, Dora and others.
Some of the influencers for his poems include Plato, Shakespeare, Petrarch and The Bible. His
poems almost always deal with fragmentary experience, the meaning of which is either obsucr or
possibly, terrifyingly absent. In Montales Any Hope of Ever Seeing you Again , the last five lines
portray strong imagery, which makes the author maybe be destitute or could be seen as the author
carrying some kind of burden. In line six the poem contains descriptive words such as distorted
and tenuous which Convey deep emotion (Bella). The use of these words create a depressing aura

What Techniques Does Fitzgerald Use to Convey the Main...
The Great Gatsby
What techniques does Fitzgerald use to convey the central ideas of The Great Gatsby?
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is primarily a social commentary on the state of American
society during the post war period of unprecedented affluence and prosperity.
Fitzgerald depicts 1920 s America as an age of decline in traditional social and moral values;
primarily evidenced by the cynicism, greed and the relentless yet empty pursuit of prosperity and
pleasure that various characters in The Great Gatsby exhibit. He presents a society in which
uninhibited consumerism, materialism and an all pervading desire for wealth have perverted the
previously righteous qualities of the American Dream, corrupting it in the process. ... Show more

Daisy s superficiality and ephemeral qualities are achieved largely by Fitzgerald s use of diction
in Daisy s conversations and descriptions of her physical characteristics. Much of Daisy s
dialogue is utterly devoid of substance, is often repetitive and its sole purpose for inclusion in
the text is to demonstrate her, and indeed the upper classes lack of direction and purpose in life,
and the resultant restlessness that originates from a life of inactivity and ease that; qualities that
are perfectly encapsulated in the line on page 17; Do you always watch for the longest day of the
year and then miss it? I always watch for the longest day in the year and then miss it. . Fitzgerald
constantly undermines the character of Daisy to demonstrate that she is the unworthy object of
Gatsby s dream, as is the social class that she symbolises. Her immorality is subtly on display
through much of the novel; she treats her own daughter with indifference, objectifying her as yet
another material accessory; That s because your mother wanted to show you off. , she remarks in
Chapter VII, displaying an apparent lack of emotional connection one would expect a mother to
hold with her child. Additionally after betraying Gatsby at a crucial moment and

Analysis Of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
If I were to remake the 1974 version of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, I would update it to have

media play a big part in the movie; I would also put in updated vehicles and machinery. With
these changes to the movie I feel like it would help the movie become more modern. Nowadays
everyone has a cell phone. From 80 year olds to 10 year olds, almost everyone has a cell phone. In
remaking The Texas Chain Saw Massacrefor current times I feel like adding cell phones would be
a major key in helping the movie fit our generation. For example, the hitchhiker wouldn t be a
hitchhiker in today s society, so the only thing I could think of to have the teenagers pick up a
random person was if Franklin was using a dating app and was going to pick up someone he has
been talking to. Franklin would be talking about how he has been talking to this girl for a while
now, and he wanted to bring her with on the teenagers trip. They would eventually find her
waiting at a bus stop to be picked up by Franklin and the rest of the teenagers. Franklin described
how caring and loving this girl was online. This girl could be a new family member of the killers
from the old movie. When she gets in the van Franklin notices right away she doesn t look like
her profile picture did online. Online she was a short blonde girl that had a couple blue streaks
in her hair, but when the teenagers pick her up they pick up a tall girl with jet black hair. She
could eventually go crazy and the teenagers kick her out like they did with the hitchhiker in the
original (Texas Chain Saw Massacre). After they kick the crazy girl out, Pam would go on to
read off of her phone all the horoscopes that she is obsessed with. Pam talks about how Franklin
s birthday is coming up in early november making him a Scorpio. She continues to say how this
month s horoscope for Scorpios says how these next couple of days will be strugglesome and

strategies such as flattery, nostalgia, and patriotism, Margaret Thatcher successfully moves the
audience of this message and convinces them that Ronald Reaganwas the perfect American and

people who had reduced cadence, velocity and stride length of just 1.7cm were seen to have greater
declines in cognition, memory and executive function. These gait related restrictions were
associated with an overall smaller brain volume (Bridenbaugh Kressig, 2013). Having reduced
mobility results in an accelerated cognitive decline as being in the same environment regularly
provides little stimulus to keep the mind active. Gait restriction can be improved through physical
therapy and although it may not increase lost brain volume it can assist in reducing the effects of
further decline (Patla, 1991).
Due to the inconsistency between studies there is no definitive exercise dosage or type that can aid
in protection against dementia. However, from the evidence provided it suggests that higher levels
of exercise can be used as a neuroprotective mechanism to prevent the onset of

To compete successfully in markets where products are the same or very similar, and prices are
basically the same, so the customer service is often the only competitive advantage available.
Many companies will do the survey, they will ask the customer need and they want the company
will focus on customer satisfying service or goods producing process, the customer s answers is
want to focus in customer satisfying service. such as the company will have some training
programme to give the staff.
Now more people want the company can provide a good service more than a goods producing
process. because customers want the sales can to help them and address their needs. They will feel
happy for their shopping. After their shopping, if some people feel this company have a good
service, they would recommend to their friend. I think this can effectively to promote their
company s products. It can attract more people to come the company to buy their product.

Military Desertion Research Paper
Bryce Peterson
11/27/17
If Military hierarchies are not an effective form of ranking systems how have they been successfully
used for thousands of years? Although it is true that there is tension among the military, there are
several reasons that debunk all theories about justifying military desertion and treason. For
thousands of years all branches of any nations or empires Army were extensively trained for
combat and situations that may arise in that environment. To say a officer in the military would
leave even under command not to because they are under stress, is a very poor reason to break the
law and millitarys codes.
Since the beginning of war there have been troops leaving there post, and since the beginning of
war there have

The Role Of Women In America
In July 1848, the Seneca Falls Convention, held by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott,
became the first meeting to be held on behalf of women s rights. It was at this convention that the
Declaration of Sentiments was drafted, and modeled after the Declaration of Independence by
asserting the equality of men and women throughout the document. This was to show that men
were not the only one who had the right to equality, but also woman. At the time, not everyone,
even women, believe in the the idea of women being equal to men because in this century it was
believe women were fragile creatures who only live within the domestic and social sphere. Within
the past few decades the role of women in America changed dramatically; they have right to vote, to
education, to work, etc. Yet substantial inequalities remain between women and men.

Reasonable Religious Disagreements Summary
In Reasonable Religious Disagreements, Feldman discusses the role of intolerance and relativism
in argumentation in regards to how epistemic peers who have a share of the same evidence
reasonably maintain their own belief, all the while, maintaining that the other party of the
disagreement is reasonable in their belief as well. This essay will concentrate on the benefits of
Feldman s observation and the benefits of critical thinking in argumentation as well as elaborate
on the main reason as to why people so desperately agree to disagree in relation to media coverage.
Feldman begins the introduction of his inquiry by identifying the importance of argumentation in
critical thinking and epistemology. He states, Epistemology is the abstract study of knowledge
and rationality. Critical thinking, as I understand it, is a kind of applied epistemology, the
underlying idea being that thinking clearly and carefully about any issue requires understanding
and applying some fundamental epistemological concepts (Feldman 1). He goes further to
describe arguments as tools for helping us figure out what it is most reasonable to believe
(Feldman 2). A good argument is an earnest exchange between different parties that are trying to
establish an agreeable conclusion. It is for this reason that agreeing to disagree is fallacious. In a
debate, the sole purpose is to challenge ideas and claims in order to come to the paramount and
most logical conclusion. The function of deliberation is

Military Drones Research
One of the strongest attributes of the UAV weapon systems is their precision and accuracy on a
target. UAV s have the ability to scan, track and monitor a target for hours before ever engages a
potential enemy. During that time, the decision to engage is not left on the operator alone. The
unique nature of this technology is that more than one person has a vote in pulling the trigger. Due
to these unique capabilities, drones, according to many reports, inflict relatively low civilian
casualtyrates. (Williams, 2013) Critics use the subject of civilian casualtiesas an argument both for
and against the use of drones. From a purely statistical analysis and perspective, the use of drones
might be the safest and most precise way to strike... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During World War II, civilians were impacted by aerial bombardments on major cities, in both
Europe and Asia. The difference is a large aerial bombardment does not feel as personal and
direct as a drone strike. So victims of a drone strike actually have an issue to complain about but,
unfortunately, there is no one on the ground to assist family members who are grieving their loss.
The civilian casualty issue has less to do with the raw data, that actually demonstrates drones are
much safer than carpet bombing a city or industrial complex.
The issue is public perception. Counterterrorism analysts and politicians have reviewed data and
conducted public opinion polls of those affected by the drone strikes and found that
overwhelmingly those polled view the use of drones negatively (Bergen, P., 2011). In a 2009
Gallup Poll, only nine percent of Pakistani s approved of the use of drone strikes. Analysts believe
that this will lead to more of the public taking sides with the terrorist or at least becoming
sympathetic to the cause of groups like Al

Women s Career And The Nineteenth Century
Women s Career Rights in the Nineteenth Century
The Nineteenth century was an age of change for America. With various reforms taking place,
industrialization overrunning the North, expansion of our country westward, and warfare soon to
erupt in the Civil War; America was a fast changing country and economy. Feminism, racism,
commercialism, militarism were all terms that would define this day of age. With the North quickly
becoming of Modern Culture, and the South soon forming Folk Culture, many reformers began to
take their place for change. Slavery and abolitionism were by far the most known reform from this
century, however, this reform may not have been as popular as claimed. Words from a British
visitor would describe the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The traditional household women were starting to become more of factory women, these women
including young, single, white women. Women were the ultimate reason as to why the country ran
so smoothly in the nineteenth century. With their efforts inside the home, including child bearing
and normal housework, to their work in industrial and agriculture economies, women helped the
economy in extremely productive ways. Soon, the home would no longer be known as the
economic center of America, and women would begin to go into their own private sphere of their
world.
In no country has such constant care been taken, as in America, to trace two clearly distinct lines of
action for the two sexes, and to make them keep pace one with the other, but in two pathways which
are always different. ... If, on the one hand, an American woman cannot escape from the quiet circle
Only about ten percent of women worked outside of the home in the pre civil era. This small
number of women was confined to a small number of jobs; Teaching, domestic service, and jobs
in the textile production industry. Work in teaching was easy for women since most of the jobs
were located in rural areas, and education was viewed as a woman s job. Because this was seen as
strictly women s work, nearly one quarter of all native born white women taught in a school at one
point their adult lives. In the

Alex In A Clockwork Orange
In Depth Character Analysis on Alex Besides the protagonist in A Clockwork Orange, who is
Alex? Many times we only look at main characters with an outsiders perspective. The
characteristics of a character are important, but the main characters are often made to be so much
more in the inside by the author. Most simply, from an outward perspective, who is Alex? What
shaped Alex to be violent? How might have other characters influenced him to be the leader of a
gang? Where did Alex s actions leave him and did Alex understand that where he was left was
avoidable? And finally, in his actions, good and bad, was there personal growth? These are all
questions to explore while diving in to who Alex is from the inside.
Most simply, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alex is eventually shown, although the hard way, that violence (and overall, evil) is not the way
one can live their life forever. After getting away with countless crimes, two of his droogs set him
up. Alex is rightfully taken into the hands of the police officers and put in prison for the killing of
an innocent woman. In this prison he is the first to be chosen and tested on with the Ludovico
Technique, a correctional technique for criminals. This technique was a two week process of
torture. Insuring that Alex couldn t move his body to interfere with the technique, two scientists
had Alex put in a straight jacket and strapped down with his eyes held open by metal clamps. The
scientists gave him nausea inducing liquid and would then play movies in front of him of crimes he
had committed in the past, beating men and women profusely and raping women. This technique
was thought to retrain and reform the criminal s brain. However, one of the more horrific movies
was accompanied by classical music, the only nonviolent enjoyment Alex ever connected to.
QUOTE From then on Alex gagged at the attempt to raise his fist to another person in the same way
that he gagged at the sound of classical music. The doctors though, deemed his treatment to be
successful and sent him out into the world a reformed man . Alex s violence resulted in treatment
that then resulted to him not being able to

  • 2. The Truth about Cowboy Types For most Americans in this age, the word cowboy will call to mind iconic images of a horseman wearing a wide brimmed hat, a belt of bullets, and a flannel shirt; he might be guiding his herd lazily along grassy plains, singing folk songs around a campfire with his companions under a starry sky, riding off with a beautiful ranch girl into an iconic sunset backdrop, or even wearing a mask and enforcing vigilante justice in a small town terrorized by hardened westernthugs or hostile Native Americans. These clichГ©s are drawn mostly from the hundreds of movies and television productions that claim the title Western . This cinematic conception of the cowboy was a personification of the American spirit of rugged individualism and intrepid pioneering but it is largely only the result of Hollywood westerns of the 20th century, and not consistent with the actual reality of cowboy life. While there were many different types of cowboys spread across the Americas with drastically different lifestyles, mannerisms, reputations, and backgrounds, by far the most easily recognized are the Anglo cowboys of the American West, and the Mexican vaqueros. As the eastern cattle herding practices spread further west, and Mexican vaqueros moved north, they met in the American western frontier; Moving further west to the semi arid plains, the habits and techniques of southeastern Anglo cowboys changed substantially under the influence of Mexico s vaqueros (Slatta 18). Divine Comedy Dante s Concept of Sin and Judgment in The Inferno Infidelity, murder, betrayal, and conspiracy all play an integral part in the story of the relationship between Jason and Medea. Jason is guilty of all four acts and Medea involves herself in three. Yet, perhaps, in the eyes of Dante, Medea might fall further into the realm of Dis than Jason. But, should she? And, is Dante s view of Jason and his sentence in Hell appropriate? From Dante s perspective, crimes of passion or desire are the least abhorrent and consequently deserve minimal punishment in comparison to what he believes are the more serious offenses. Violence without consideration, striking out at another in anger, frustration, hatred or selfish ambition is inherent in the nature of these actions. Accordingly Dante interprets them as being less detrimental to one s being than crimes of thought and meditation. In Dante s view the next circle of sin consists of acts of fraud. He classifies these sinners as seducers and panderers, flatterers, simoniacs, fortune tellers, grafters, hypocrites, thieves, evil counselors, sowers of discord, and counterfeiters or falsifiers. These are the souls who in life betrayed the confidence of another. They preyed on other people solely for gain and knowingly deceived without concern for their victims psyche or physical being. Yet Dante does not stop here. He further complicates fraud by adding the realm of compound fraud. Souls found in this circle of Hell did not betray just a stranger or acguaintance, but rather twisted the confidence of someone who loved and/or respected them. They defiled their own kin or country. They either took advantage of guests or of a host, perhaps within his own home. And, falling closest to the pit of Hell (and Lucifer) are those souls who betray the confidence of their lord or benefactor. • 8. Elizabeth Gaskell s Construction Of The Ideal Man In Victorian Britain, monumental changes were occurring in regards to class structure and gender ideals due to social and economic changes sparked by the Industrial Revolution. These changes caused a new image of masculinity to emerge. The concept of masculinity came to embody a new ideal, self made man, measured by advances based on personal success rather than birthright(M19). It was expected that men were to exude manly toughness and independent spirit while providing the financial support and leadership for the household(m19). Beyond these basic characteristics, Elizabeth Gaskell s construction of the ideal man incorporates a fusion of gendertraits as strengths of masculinity, notably her emphasis on manly nurturance and tenderness as seen in her novel Mary Barton(wcm334). While the evolving social structure of 19th century Britain was a cause for the increasing emphasis on manliness, it was also the source of challenges faced by working class men as they struggled to achieve and maintain this new sense of masculinity. By analyzing Gaskell s Mary Barton and additional texts from the period, supplemented by contemporary analysis of the concept of masculinity, this paper provides insight into the constructions of masculinity in working class men of Victorian society and discusses the struggles workers faced as they strove to achieve manhood amidst the changing social climate. In order to understand the difficulty working class men encountered trying to maintain a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Main Features Of A Bureaucracy And The Scientific... King and Lawley (2013, p.601) stated that rationalisation can be defined as increasing the efficiency and reducing costs within a business, this idea incorporates the aspects of a bureaucracy and the scientific design of work). Within a rational organisation, bureaucracies are created through the implementation of policies and procedures which makes the organisation standardised, predictable and efficient. Organisations such as Junction hotel might consider adopting the key features of rationalisation, for example within a bureaucracy a hierarchy is created, this shows clear lines of communication within departments. King and Lawley (2013) show that within Junction hotel the organisational structure lacks span of control as Linda Wilkinson is in charge of 34 employees This was improved by making the span of control more manageable by delegating control through management, different departments can be created, within each department there is a head employee who was in charge of more staff. As an organisation grows, the number of employee s increases, therefore Fayols five functions of management are implemented through impersonal control rather than direct face to face control. In contrast to rationalisation, King and Lawley (2013) describe the social organisation as a belief that the key factors in shaping an individual within the workplace are the social interactions between people. • 12. Persuasive Essay On Acting In Hollywood What do you want to be when you grow up? is a question that children get asked quite frequently. Most of the time, a child aims big and chooses an extravagant career, like an astronaut, a police officer, or a doctor. Obviously, it is impossible for a child to obtain one of those jobs at such a young age. However, acting in Hollywood is a possible career for a child. If a child is talented enough to be a star, then why not let them pursue their passion? While the life of being an actor in Hollywood seems like a dream to most children, fame comes with many terrible obstacles for some stars. Over the years, there has been a large debate on whether or not acting in Hollywood as a child is as picture perfect as it seems. Hollywood is filled with tons of secrets. Why should a child be put into such an untrustworthy environment? Acting in Hollywood is in no way safe for children. News outlets are full of stories about former child stars who have gone wild. Some stars develop destructive partying habits at a young age. How do young, innocent stars learn about the use of drugs and alcohol? They are invited to big Hollywood parties where they are introduced to substances that lead to addiction. During adolescence, a child is still learning who they are and love to experiment. Many probably think how is that so, but the fact of the matter is that it is just so costly for good healthcare in our great country of the United States and without insurance, it makes it nearly impossible to pay for any medical expenses that we may face. Many would argue that we do have the best health care, and I would say they are not completely wrong, but where we fall short is that it is too expensive and more times than not people often make poor choices in taking care for their body even though there are ways to do so. • 14. Psychological Factors Affecting Social Isolation Social Isolation Social isolation may be defined as the absence of social interaction, contacts, and relationships with family and friends, with neighbors on an individual level, and with society at large on a broader level. Social isolation is considered a risk factor in the development of disease and the disabilities that can occur in the course of an existing disease. Social support may be defined as the resources provided by other persons including emotional social, physical, financial, and other types of care (Institute of Medicine, 1992). Social isolation may be measured by the strength of an older person s existing social network. The absence or weakness of the social support network forms the basis for identifying individuals who are socially isolated. According to Krishnamoorthi (2011) social isolation of the chronically ill and elderly is a costly problem. When the unmanaged chronic illness of the socially isolated becomes acutely worsened, mortality rates are higher and serious functional and mental debilitation requires total care from the system. Data indicates there is an increased risk that social isolation silently has for acute and chronic disease. Term structure interest rate is a rate which relates the interest rate or rate of return to the time to maturity. The yield curve is a graph of relationship between the debt s remaining time to maturity and its yield to maturity. Term structure of interest rate can be shown graphically by yield curve. The shape of the yield curve will show the useful ways to future interest rate expectation. 6 3 For a given class of similar risk securities, what does each of the following yield curves reflect about interest rates: (a) downward slopping; (b) upward slopping; and (c) flat? Which form has been historical dominant? For a given class of similar risk securities, A downward yield curve shows cheaper long term borrowing lists than the short term borrowing lists (inverted yield curve). Upward yield curves represent cheaper short term borrowing lists than the long term borrowing lists (normal yield curve). The flat one shows similar borrowing costs for both short term and long term loans. 6 4 Briefly describe the following theories of general shape of the yield curve: (a) expectation theory; (b) liquidity preference theory; and (c) market segmentation theory. Hells Influence In Dante s Inferno Hell s Influence (An analysis of whether or not hell is a legitimate propaedeutic for moral behavior through the study of Dante s Inferno) Go to Hell... a phrase we hear often. From the time we are young, the pastors and preachers of the various churches we attend dictate our behavior by threatening us. They tell us continually that if we don t follow the commandments of God at all times and in all places, we are going to go to Hell. The only way to avoid it is to repent of all of our sins and never repeat those sins again. Dante Alighieri was one of the first people to explore the punishments that are given in Hell. This is the feeling you get when you typically watch a horror movie, you feel like you re about to explode due to the tension on screen. There are many subgenres of horror movies and it seems like most people lump them all in to one category, but today we won t be doing that. However, on the last page of the story, I found a passage that I consider significant to the story. The owner of the house and property on which the angel fell, Pelayo, offers some humane treatment to the angel. [The angel] could scarcely eat and his antiquarian eyes had also become so foggy that he went bumping into posts. All he had left were the bare cannulae of his last feathers. The stained glass windows were vibrant in color and intricate in design. Throughout the cathedral there were statues of various important Christian figures. I assumed that the statues were either of Jesus, the Virgin Mary, various saints, or individuals from the Old Testament because Matlins and Magida discuss how these statues are prominent in Roman Catholic cathedrals (Matlins). The scene suggests the presence of something that oppresses Omar and the presence of the laundrette as a refuge, a place for him to clear his brain a space where queer bodies can express their desire. He was a hopeless romantic and that translated into his poetry and was the theme for most of it aswell, and the poem Any Hope of Ever Seeing you Again is no exception. The poem Any Hope of Ever Seeing you Again portrays two different sides to a story and can be interpreted in many ways due to its style of writing. Eugenio Montale was born in Genoa in 1896. In WWI he wa an infirmary worker and later chief literary critic for Italy with the Corriere Della Sera. He was a music critic, translator and was made a lifetime member of the Italian Senate in 1967. He also won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1975. He died six years later in Milan, 1981. In 1927 he fell in love with a married woman who he nicknamed Mosca which means fly. It is believed that this was borrowed from Ben Jonson s Volpone. Montale stayed devoted to her until her husband died in 1958. They were married until Mosca died five years later. He also met an American author named Irma Brandeis who influences some of his work, which mostly revolves around unattainable love. She made him feel better through the Fascist years, so when they became separated, he used what he was feeling and put it into poetry. Montale wrote his poetry during an era where the theme amor de lonh, love from afar, was popular, which is also tied to donna angelicata or angelic lady. Donna angelicata is mostly tied to communication attempts to an allusive lover. His poems are often really personal, including a lady figure with many names, some of which including Gertu, Liuba, Vixen, Dora and others. Some of the influencers for his poems include Plato, Shakespeare, Petrarch and The Bible. His poems almost always deal with fragmentary experience, the meaning of which is either obsucr or possibly, terrifyingly absent. For thousands of years all branches of any nations or empires Army were extensively trained for combat and situations that may arise in that environment. To say a officer in the military would leave even under command not to because they are under stress, is a very poor reason to break the law and millitarys codes. Since the beginning of war there have been troops leaving there post, and since the beginning of war there have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Role Of Women In America In July 1848, the Seneca Falls Convention, held by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott, became the first meeting to be held on behalf of women s rights. It was at this convention that the Declaration of Sentiments was drafted, and modeled after the Declaration of Independence by asserting the equality of men and women throughout the document. This was to show that men were not the only one who had the right to equality, but also woman. At the time, not everyone, even women, believe in the the idea of women being equal to men because in this century it was believe women were fragile creatures who only live within the domestic and social sphere. Within the past few decades the role of women in America changed dramatically; they have right to vote, to education, to work, etc. Yet substantial inequalities remain between women and men. ... • 46. Reasonable Religious Disagreements Summary In Reasonable Religious Disagreements, Feldman discusses the role of intolerance and relativism in argumentation in regards to how epistemic peers who have a share of the same evidence reasonably maintain their own belief, all the while, maintaining that the other party of the disagreement is reasonable in their belief as well. This essay will concentrate on the benefits of Feldman s observation and the benefits of critical thinking in argumentation as well as elaborate on the main reason as to why people so desperately agree to disagree in relation to media coverage. Feldman begins the introduction of his inquiry by identifying the importance of argumentation in critical thinking and epistemology. He states, Epistemology is the abstract study of knowledge and rationality. Critical thinking, as I understand it, is a kind of applied epistemology, the underlying idea being that thinking clearly and carefully about any issue requires understanding and applying some fundamental epistemological concepts (Feldman 1). He goes further to describe arguments as tools for helping us figure out what it is most reasonable to believe (Feldman 2). A good argument is an earnest exchange between different parties that are trying to establish an agreeable conclusion. It is for this reason that agreeing to disagree is fallacious. In a debate, the sole purpose is to challenge ideas and claims in order to come to the paramount and most logical conclusion. The function of deliberation is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Military Drones Research One of the strongest attributes of the UAV weapon systems is their precision and accuracy on a target. UAV s have the ability to scan, track and monitor a target for hours before ever engages a potential enemy. During that time, the decision to engage is not left on the operator alone. The unique nature of this technology is that more than one person has a vote in pulling the trigger. Due to these unique capabilities, drones, according to many reports, inflict relatively low civilian casualtyrates. (Williams, 2013) Critics use the subject of civilian casualtiesas an argument both for and against the use of drones. From a purely statistical analysis and perspective, the use of drones might be the safest and most precise way to strike... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During World War II, civilians were impacted by aerial bombardments on major cities, in both Europe and Asia. The difference is a large aerial bombardment does not feel as personal and direct as a drone strike. So victims of a drone strike actually have an issue to complain about but, unfortunately, there is no one on the ground to assist family members who are grieving their loss. The civilian casualty issue has less to do with the raw data, that actually demonstrates drones are much safer than carpet bombing a city or industrial complex. The issue is public perception. Counterterrorism analysts and politicians have reviewed data and conducted public opinion polls of those affected by the drone strikes and found that overwhelmingly those polled view the use of drones negatively (Bergen, P., 2011). In a 2009 Gallup Poll, only nine percent of Pakistani s approved of the use of drone strikes. Analysts believe that this will lead to more of the public taking sides with the terrorist or at least becoming sympathetic to the cause of groups like Al ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Women s Career And The Nineteenth Century Women s Career Rights in the Nineteenth Century The Nineteenth century was an age of change for America. With various reforms taking place, industrialization overrunning the North, expansion of our country westward, and warfare soon to erupt in the Civil War; America was a fast changing country and economy. Feminism, racism, commercialism, militarism were all terms that would define this day of age. With the North quickly becoming of Modern Culture, and the South soon forming Folk Culture, many reformers began to take their place for change. Slavery and abolitionism were by far the most known reform from this century, however, this reform may not have been as popular as claimed. Words from a British visitor would describe the most ... Women were the ultimate reason as to why the country ran so smoothly in the nineteenth century. With their efforts inside the home, including child bearing and normal housework, to their work in industrial and agriculture economies, women helped the economy in extremely productive ways. Soon, the home would no longer be known as the economic center of America, and women would begin to go into their own private sphere of their world. In no country has such constant care been taken, as in America, to trace two clearly distinct lines of action for the two sexes, and to make them keep pace one with the other, but in two pathways which are always different. ... If, on the one hand, an American woman cannot escape from the quiet circle Only about ten percent of women worked outside of the home in the pre civil era. This small number of women was confined to a small number of jobs; Teaching, domestic service, and jobs in the textile production industry. Work in teaching was easy for women since most of the jobs were located in rural areas, and education was viewed as a woman s job. Because this was seen as strictly women s work, nearly one quarter of all native born white women taught in a school at one point their adult lives. In the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Alex In A Clockwork Orange In Depth Character Analysis on Alex Besides the protagonist in A Clockwork Orange, who is Alex? Many times we only look at main characters with an outsiders perspective. The characteristics of a character are important, but the main characters are often made to be so much more in the inside by the author. Most simply, from an outward perspective, who is Alex? What shaped Alex to be violent? How might have other characters influenced him to be the leader of a gang? Where did Alex s actions leave him and did Alex understand that where he was left was avoidable? And finally, in his actions, good and bad, was there personal growth? These are all questions to explore while diving in to who Alex is from the inside. Most simply, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alex is eventually shown, although the hard way, that violence (and overall, evil) is not the way one can live their life forever. After getting away with countless crimes, two of his droogs set him up. Alex is rightfully taken into the hands of the police officers and put in prison for the killing of an innocent woman. In this prison he is the first to be chosen and tested on with the Ludovico Technique, a correctional technique for criminals. This technique was a two week process of torture. Insuring that Alex couldn t move his body to interfere with the technique, two scientists had Alex put in a straight jacket and strapped down with his eyes held open by metal clamps. The scientists gave him nausea inducing liquid and would then play movies in front of him of crimes he had committed in the past, beating men and women profusely and raping women. This technique was thought to retrain and reform the criminal s brain. However, one of the more horrific movies was accompanied by classical music, the only nonviolent enjoyment Alex ever connected to. QUOTE From then on Alex gagged at the attempt to raise his fist to another person in the same way that he gagged at the sound of classical music. The doctors though, deemed his treatment to be successful and sent him out into the world a reformed man . Alex s violence resulted in treatment that then resulted to him not being able to ...
