Compcompare the Ways in Which Larkin and Abse Write About...
Compare the ways in which Larkin and Abse write about place. You must include detailed critical
discussion of at least two poems by Larkin in your response.

Gemma N
Larkin and Abse both write about places in a very different, very unique style. One the one hand
Larkin talks about the places of his past and how they are no longer accessible; the changing of a
beautiful, unspoilt place to something short of an eyesore; a pace he is in but does not feel he belongs
and even places within his mind. Alternatively Abse talks longingly of the places he once lived in, and
how upsetting it is to find they are no longer the same. Some examples of the copious amount to
choose from include Here, Mr Bleaney and Sunny Prestalyn, ... Show more content on

Moreover, in the first stanza when describing the rural area he repeatedly uses assonance. Skies and
scarecrows, haystacks, hares and pheasants these soft consonant sounds make you slow down as the
repeated s sounds become hard to say, slowing you down and not allowing you to rush past these, in
Larkin s case, beautiful little details of the countryside.
Furthermore, Larkin s poem Mr Bleaney refers to a place that the persona does not wish to be in, yet
has ended up having surrendering and suffers the consequences. Mr Bleaney is essentially a poem
about a circumstantial situation that is given as a dramatic monologue, and rather like a drama, tells a
story that is full of lucid mystery. The first half of the poem is slow and deliberate and helps to create a
macabre feel to the poem. A change of pace occurs in the second half of the poem, though is not
immediately apparent. It then seems to be despairingly urgent, as Mr Bleaney subtly moves from a
recollected past to an observed present, through his mediation with the new tenant. In addition Larkin
s use of listing creates a dull and monotonous feel to the place, giving the reader the feel that no one,
unless in a dire situation, would want to suffer living in such an undesirable place. One may argue the
most symbolic thing in the room is the sixty watt bulb . Light is a commonly used symbol to portray

Professional Development in Early Childhood Education Essay
The first few years of a young child s life, from birth to four years old, are very critical to his/her
overall development, due to most of the time, teacher professionals are individuals who play the key
and an active role in their early childhood development are teacher professionals who have a passion
and a genuine desire to help them learn, grow and succeed in their education. These are just a few
roles that early childhood educators plays in the field of early childhood education for working with
young children in their early childhood years of life, which the requirements, most of the time, are to
have both a formal education and passing teacher certification score.

and two, does the sum of this body of knowledge and competencies uniquely distinguish the early
childhood professional from all other professionals? These two questions can be the results of an early
childhood educator who predominantly teaches young children, ranging from four to five years old,
who has to have a special skill set in order to accommodate her young children s academic and
behavioral needs as well as nurture them as they develop and grow; this special skill set includes an
early childhood educator that is, compassionate, creative, flexible, patient, and most of important,
shows professionalism, in general. According to National Association for Education of Young

Regenerative Wound Medicine
Regenerative medicine such as tissue replacement and wound healing has been used quite extensively
for skin treatments over the years. Understanding the pathology of skin injury will bring effective
treatments and wound healing outcomes. Several strategies like traditional skin grafts, certain
biomaterials, and stem cell therapies are vital for current tissue injuries and the future of tissue
regeneration.
Introduction and Pathology
The skin is said to be the largest organ in a human body. It is divided into 3 layers: epidermis (outer
layer or superficial layer of the skin), dermis (connective tissue, hair follicles, and sweat glands),
hypodermis (subcutaneous fat) (Chen, 2009). These layers act as a barrier by protecting the body from

Stem cells are multipotent which give rise to multiple cell types and are known for their self renewing
and tissue differentiation abilities. Research has shown SCs to have successful results in the field of
skin regeneration (Duscher, 2016). SCs of interest for wound healing include adult mesenchymal stem
cells (MSC s), embryonic stem cells (ESC s), and induced pluripotent stem cells (IPSC s). MSCs are
isolated mainly from the bone marrow and other tissues such as adipose and nerve tissues and are
administered locally as well as systemically with little to no immunoreactivity (Tartarini, 2016). MSCs
regenerative benefits in wound injury is not seen in its structural capabilities rather it s seen in its
escape of trophic mediators (Duscher, 2016). Bone marrow MSCs injected in wound sites produce
high amounts of collagen and growth factors leading to faster healing, epithelialization, angiogenesis,
and cellularity (Duscher, 2016). Studies also show that bone marrow derived MSCs injected in injury
sites had decreased wound size, increased vascularity and dermal thickness (Duscher, 2016). Although
MSCs for wound therapy has been proven effective and well tolerated in patients, there still seems to
be limitations such as invasiveness of their harvest, cost of resources, and hazards that deal with
growing cell cultures to attain healing

710 Freeway Extension Project Essay
In May of 2015, the California Department of Transportation and the Metropolitan Transportation
Authority held a public hearing to gather feedback from the community about potential environmental
concerns related to the 710 Freeway extension project. In a report released by Caltrans earlier that
year, five potential alternatives were mentioned in relation to the closure of the 4.5 mile gap in the
freeway (between Alhambra and Pasadena). These alternatives included bus and rail lines and a dual
bore tunnel. After the release of the report and the discussion of potential environmental concerns and
alternative solutions/uses for the gap, a coalition of cities (Glendale, Pasadena, South Pasadena, and
Sierra Madre) examined environmental, safety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some are now supporting suggestions to build a new neighborhood instead of completing the 710
Freeway. It seems the debate is neverending. The idea to skip use the gap to build a new neighborhood
came from a Pasadena based architectural firm, Stefanos Polyzoides with Moule Polyzoides.
Polyzoides suggests that Caltrans sell the land near the northern end of where the 710 Freeway is
supposed to be to the city of Pasadena. The city could then redevelop the land into housing,
businesses, etc. His mention of incorporating a tree boulevard only makes the plan sound better. The
Pasadena architect presented his plan at a West Pasadena Residents Association meeting. It included a
mixture of single family housing on the southern end of the 50 acre segement in Pasadena with more
dense housing closer to the 210 Freeway. Of course, businesses would be incorporated throughout the
neighborhood, as well. The design is being compared to Old Town Pasadena. Pasadena mayor, Terry
Tornek, is planning to put a repeal of Measure A on the November ballot. (Measure A is the voter
approved 2001 measure supporting the completion of the 710 Freeway). By doing so, he feels that the
freeway extension project would be essentially taken out of the game and Caltrans might then decide
to sell the land and make the Pasadena architect s vision of a new neighborhood in the freeway gap a

News From Nowhere By William Morris Essay
William Morris novel News from Nowhere is portrayed as a utopic vision of a world that not only
abolishes the class system, but is created through the transition from working in order to survive to
working for the pleasure of it. Consequently, his novel may seem only as a vision due to its idealistic
reasoning as to how his portrayed world dependant on nature and people s nature could possibly exist
and support itself. Even though this is merely theory on his part, his essay Useful Work versus Useless
Toil supports a better understanding of Morris conceptualization of enjoyable labour within his ideal
future society in his novel News from Nowhere because it suggests how finding pleasure in doing
work leads to a better and enlightened society.
Morris clearly separates labour between pre and post revolution by highlighting and redefining the
terms civilization and society in which a true society is only possible once the class system is
destroyed and people are treated as equals. In the novel, the narrator William Guest asks Hammond
how his 19th century world shifted to the elder s, and the answer is the revolution leading to the
abolishment of social class. According to Hammond, he defines civilization as organized misery in
which he criticizes the class system for denigrating the lower classes into subservient people
unknowingly supporting and enriching the middle and upper classes while scrapping by with little
reward to their own lifestyle (Morris 125).

The Benefits of Responsible Human Cloning Essay
The Benefits of Responsible Human Cloning
On an unremarkable afternoon in July of 1996, in an unremarkable shed in Scotland, a lamb was born.
This lamb was to spark a controversy that would be one of the defining arguments of this era. This
lamb, simply named Dolly (after Dolly Parton in reference to the mammary cell used as the donor),
was the first clone to be born using specialized cells from an adult mammal.
The fact that the lamb was cloned from these specialized cells such as muscle cells, liver cells, or
mammary cells is what made this discovery of such importance. Before this, scientists had thought
that these cells had lost their ability to grow into a new embryo. They had already cloned embryos, but

Thousands of lives could be saved.
In recent months, the story of this event has swamped the news media. Although many opinions have
been expressed, finding anyone who is stating the facts of the issue and not just venting his fears and
misconceptions has become extremely difficult. I n fact, despite the enormous controversy
surrounding the science, many benefits exist for mankind because of its discovery, and the continued
support for the advancement of the science far outweighs any disadvantages that may arise. We cannot
afford to l et our emotional biases deter us from allowing this research to continue.
To better understand why this is, one must look at the arguments and misconceptions most commonly
associated with those opposed to cloning.
Cloning is immoral.
As the procedure stands now, the cloning of humans is immoral. The procedure used has a low success
rate and disfiguration and death is not uncommon, but that is because it has only been developed to be
used on animals, with which these types of losse s are far more acceptable. All reasonable scientists
agree that the process should not even be attempted until the process is refined to meet acceptable
success rates and that those higher success rates will be feasible in the near future.

Diversity In New York City
What does New York offer its inhabitants? New York is a state where most of its
Inhabitants are immigrants. In fact, The Huff Post states, Over 37% of New York City residents were
born in another country..., A high record of 3.07 million foreign born immigrants lives in New York
City . What New York City offers its inhabitants is quite unique from other places. It also offers the
ability to know about people from other countries, it s full of diversity. It offers endless adventures to
grow. Furthermore, it offers the feeling of being in a neighborhood where you feel like home.
The idea of the diversity in New York it sounds strange to me at the first, I doubt it. At first, my idea
was mundane because I get used to watching just one side of the inhabitants, and it was the side of the
Hispanic people. After, going to BMCC everything changed. I started to see New York with new eyes
and I started to learn a lot about cultures, for example, the scarf that Muslim women wear, which its
name is hijab. Now, a quote who supports this is from the Garnette Cadogan eloquent essay,
Immigrants are central to the allure of the city. It s a truism the city repeats endlessly to itself:
Immigrants provide a rich diversity and cosmopolitan flavor that awaken one s sense and enliven one
s sense of identity. This is the idea that I really feel empathy for him. It means that immigrants are
important to New York City because they represent the city. The incontrovertible truth that New York

Racecar Drivers Vs Car Driving
Driving in circles is often one of the first things that comes to mind when someone hears the word
racecar driver. However, driving in circles is nowhere near a complete explanation of what a racecar
driver can do. Most people know racecar drivers drive with the purpose of going fast. Their goal when
driving a racecar is to get from point A to point B as fast as possible. They drive endless loops of a
racing circuit to improve previous lap times by milliseconds, just to say they were the fastest. This is
something that few understand, and racecar drivers have difficulty explaining why this is their passion
to others. It s almost as if they are looking into a different boxcar than others. Sometimes when people
think of a racecar driver, they think, Can t anyone drive a car? or Oh driving in circles like NASCAR?
That must be easy. These answers couldn t be farther from the reality, and it s astonishing how
unknown the world of auto racing is to many people. Racing is not just driving per se. Racing is the
art of driving fast with a bunch of other like minded idiots, who all risk their lives with the, widely
misunderstood, willingness to endanger their life just to say they beat the other guy. Racing and
racecar drivers are entirely different from driving on the street in a countless number of ways.
Throughout this paper a street driver will refer to someone who is not a racecar driver, and a racecar
driver will refer to someone who races cars.

In Cold Blood Perry Quotes
In the book In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, one of the two killers, Perry Smith, is presented to be
an emotional villain whose actions towards others reflects the way society has treated him. The
traumatic and broken childhood that Perry endured did not only leave him untrusting of others but was
a gateway to the dramatic and unpleasant life that Perry lived. Not only shown through his criminal
actions, but every aspect of Perry s life is negatively marked by his experiences, illustrating the
trainwreck that his life turned out to be.
Perry s complicated feelings towards society is shown through his treatment of the Clutters during the
home invasion. Perry s erratic treatment of the family, showing both kindness and ruthless violence,
puzzles the detectives on the case. This inconsistent behavior is a reflection of both the abuse he
suffered throughout his life as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

stranded saying, Frankly, I don t give a damn. You want to put them out? Then by all means.... Go

argues on their behalf but threatens to leave if he does not have his way. After heartlessly killing four
people, Perry is willing to risk his only partnership for these strangers. Once again, Perry s unexpected
compassion juxtaposes the harsh and cruel life that he lives. This is again demonstrated when Perry
intervenes when Dick begins to make advances on Nancy. Even in the wake of the horror that
unfolded in the Clutter household, it was important to Perry to leave the family with their

King Lear Tragic Hero Essay
A tragic hero is said to be an imperfect character of noble stature, a character with a downfall caused
by an error of judgement which is not deserved, and a self realization from the downfall. King Lear
from the play King Lear fits this description of a tragic hero. King Lear is a tragic play written by
Shakespeare. King Lear is depicted as a tragic hero because of his high status, his downfall which was
caused by himself, and his realization from his downfall. King Lear is portrayed as a tragic hero
partially because of his imperfectness. Throughout the play, King Lear makes many mistakes, which
show his imperfections. His mistakes eventually led to his insanity. He does not even want ot go
insane. He says, O, let me not be mad, not mad, sweet heaven keep me in temper: I would not be mad!

Aristotle believes that a tragic hero s downfall is his/her own fault. He also believes that this decision
was made by choice and not by force. King Lear truly fits this description. King Lear s downfall was
dividing his land (and his crown) to his three daughters out of narcissism. Lear wanted his daughters
to tell him how much they loved him. He did this by choice, not knowing how evil two of his
daughters, Goneril and Regan, really were and how they did not actually love him. His obliviousness
was his flaw and trusted his daughters too much. However, King Lear disowned his youngest
daughter, Cordelia, even though she was the one who love him most. Lear is outraged when she does
not tell him how much she loves him. King Lear says Ingratitude, thou marble hearted fiend, more
hideous when thou show st thee in a child than the sea monster! (I iv 4 6). He mistook her honesty for
lack of respect, which partially led to his downfall as well. By the end of the play, Lear s mistakes

The introduction of an invasive species can change the organization and functioning of the native
communities through various processes such as predation, parasite transfer or competitive exclusion.
The two main explanations why some exotic species become invasive species are superiority in
competition and the opportunistic use of ecological niches generated by human activities.
(Nishizawa). Invasive species contributed to the decline of 42% of the threatened and endangered

Antoine Lavoisier Research Paper
Why Lavoisier is famous:
Antoine Lavoisier revolutionized chemistry. He named the elements carbon, hydrogen and oxygen;
discovered oxygen s role in combustion and respiration; established that water is a compound of
hydrogen and oxygen; discovered that sulfur is an element, and helped continue the transformation of
chemistry from a qualitative science into a quantitative one. He created a new form of nomenclature
which is the skeleton of today s Periodic Table, and he famously proved the theory of phlogiston
incorrect and replaced it with the law of conservation of mass and his theory of oxygenation (Holmes,
introduction).

Bilingual Advantages In Executive Function
Bilingual advantages in executive function In a study of bilingual adults, non verbal executive
functions were found to be a key mechanism system used to solve two or more linguistic conflicts
caused by the process of manifesting language co activation of bilingualism (Ellen Bialystok, 2015).
Behavioral visual tracking, event related potential and functional magnetic resonance imaging studies
support the argument of co language activation. The two implications are related to the viewpoint that
this language conflict management is the basic mechanism for the bilingual effect on cognition. The
first suggestion is that this effect is inherently available due to training in increasing experience
frequency. Therefore, there is evidence that bilingual experience increases cognitive benefits.
In a recent study focusing on bilingual advantages in executive function, monolingual participants
who took a one year college level course in introductory Spanish or introductory psychology were
tested before and after the executive function of ERP recording (Sullivan, M. D., Janus, M., Moreno,
S., Astheimer, L. B., Bialystok, E. 2014). The focus of this study was on previous cognitive systems
that demonstrated ERP waveform differences between single language and bilingual and that the
cognitive system that governs bilingualism is responsible for nonverbal behavior consistent with
optimal performance. In the first session, all participants performed this method equally, but in the

Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus And Mellitus
Introduction:
Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that occurs when insulin producing beta cells of the pancreas are
damaged or are being destroyed (Mahan, Escott Stump Raymond, 2012). The gradual destruction of
the beta cells of the pancreas usually leads to complete insulin deficiency, which ultimately manifests
itself in the following symptoms at clinical onset: high blood glucose (hyperglycemia), frequent
urination (polyuria), excessive thirst (polydipsia), and a significant amount of weight loss,
dehydration, electrolyte disturbances and ketoacidosis , requiring dependency of exogenous insulin in
order to promote optimal glycemic control in order to prevent further more severe complications; such
as, ketoacidosis, microvascular diseases, macrovascular diseases, neuropathy, or worse Death (Mahan
et al., 2012). Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus can result from two existing forms: 1. Immune mediated
diabetes Mellitus, which is characterized by autoimmune destruction of the beta cells of the pancreas
and an idiopathic (unknown cause) commonly seen in ethnic groups of African or Asian descent
(Mahan et al., 2012). Of all diagnosed diabetes cases, prevalence of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus cases
account for 5% 10%, and although onset may present itself at any age, 70% of cases are diagnosed in
young adults (younger than age 30), with a peak in occurring incidences seen mostly in children and
adolescents (Mahan et al., 2012). In the United States, approximately 1 in every 400

Women Are Not Born But Made
Women are not born but made. Nowadays we celebrate women s day but there are many situations we
had come through to this position and space Punjabi women occupy nowadays, and comparing it to
the times 60 years ago. The age of my grandmother. When the country had just got independence.
When the women are participating in nationalist movements were being pushed into the domestic
household works.
There have been innumerable debates about gender in (Banerjee 2012) Punjab over last 60 years.
Most of them were about women s positions in society, their education, health, economic status,
gender equality. What we can conclude from these discussions is that how women have always held a
certain contradictory position in our developing country in past years. In recent years women held a
very less respectful position . they were not treated as human. On other hand, Punjab has an increased
percentage of literacy among women . now women are allowed to enter into professional fields now.
However, in the 1950s my grandmother tells women were just made to do household chores. They
were not allowed to get higher education or even go out without the permission of parents. They were
supposed to be at home . while on the other hand the practices of female foeticide, poor health
conditions and lack of education persisting still continue. Even the supportive ideology of the home
being women s real domain and marriage being her ultimate destiny has not changed much in last 60
years.

A process is any repetitive action, may be a transactional, manufacturing or services. The defects and

Australopithecus Afarensis, and Australopithecus Africanus...
The phylogeny started off with Proconsul heseloni as the common ancestor to Sivapithecus indicus,
Australopithecus afarensis, and Australopithecus Africanus. The reasoning for this was from the
approximated age of Proconsul heseloni of 23 million years ago. This places Sivapithecus indicus
roughly 15 million years after, suggesting that Sivapithecus indicus directly evolved from Proconsul
heseloni.
From Proconsul heseloni, it was decided that three species evolved from it. These species included A.
A. afarensis, A. africanus and Sivapithecus indicus. Sivapithecus indicus was branched off the early
human evolutionary line as the characteristics from the dentation and skull characteristics differed

This difference can be used to infer that they lived in different areas of the world as it can be assumed
that the diets of the two were unalike, explaining the dissimilarity of the canine size. As it is inferred
that the two species lived in different regions of the world, it can be assumed that they co existed at
the same time period.
Homo habilis followed A. africanus indicating that A. africanus was a direct ancestor of H. habilis.
The reasoning for this included the brain weight and body weight of the H. habilis slightly increased
from that of A. africanus. As there was a general increase the overall brain to body weight ratio,
indicating that there was an increase in the overall body weight of the two.
Homo erectus was branched off after H. habilis as the justification for this was from the muzzle angles
of the different species. As H. erectus had a muzzle angle of 107° it was decided that it was reasonable
to assume that H. erectus evolved from H. habilis. However, in the overall positioning of the
phylogeny, it was placed on a side branch off H. habilis. This reasoning for this was that if H. erectus
was placed on the main evolutionary line to evolve from H. ergaster, the muzzle angles from H.
ergaster, H. erectus, and Homo neaderthalensis would increase then decrease. It would not be logical
to place H. erectus on the main evolutionary line. Further justification that H. erectus was not a direct

Faith and religion are an uncomfortable topic for most, a treasured topic for some, and incredibly life
changing for others. My own faith has grown immensely over the years, and it is something that has
been so integral in my growth that I cannot shy away from sharing it in abundance. God has revealed
many things to me, one of which is that when I stop living to glorify myself, and instead glorify Him
with my actions, He will bless that.
It was a Saturday night, in the middle of a cold February. The year was 2011, and I was a sophomore
in high school. My face had been painted in layers of bright blues and greys, my hair under a long,
black wig that reached to my waist. My heart was pounding, just like it did before every performance.
However, it was never stage fright. I loved the feeling of the hot, white spotlight, the hundreds of
children sitting on the edges of their seats. I cherished the feeling of excitement that welled up in my
throat as the overture swelled, the bass vibrating beneath my feet. I was in love with theater, and I
poured my heart and time into every performance we gave. This performance was no exception. I was
in a production of The Chronicles of Narnia The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. After being cast
as the female lead The White Witch I had spent hours of dedicated preparation for the part.
The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is a beloved tale, but many do not know that it is an allegory
for the beliefs of the Christian faith. As a

A Brief Look at the Gesture
The gesture
Gesture is the natural, nonverbal way that human can use to communicate with each other, and
recently interface with computers and devices in order to have control upon them besides conventional
input devices such as keyboard, mouse, and joystick. In general, gestures can be categorized into static
and dynamic.
A static gesture refers to the position and poses of hand without any movement, which can be
represented by a single image.
A dynamic gesture describes the hand movement, which can be determined through a set of successive
images or video frames (3D Hand Gesture Recognition Based on Sensor Fusion of Commodity
Hardware).
2.3.2 Data acquisition
This stage is responsible for acquiring and collecting gestures from the human (usually hand gestures).
There are many technologies that can be used to acquire and capture the gestures, and then convert
them into a digital form (Sensors for Gesture Recognition Systems) in order to be understandable by
digital devices. These technologies vary in terms of capability and accuracy to get the gestures. The
following are some technologies used for gestures acquisition.
A. Cameras: are the main gesture captured technologies used in vision based gesture recognition
systems. There are different types of cameras such as color stereo cameras (using two cameras to
obtain a left and right stereo image), 2D cameras, 3D cameras, and thermal cameras. These cameras
can be used to capture human gestures and send them to

Do You Exist Because You Think, or Do You Think Because...
In order to consider I exist because I think or I think because I exist , I would define the I exist
because I think as I think is the cause of I exist . This implies I think appear before I exist and cause I
exist to happen. In the other side, I think because I exist would be I exist is the cause of I think . This
implies I exist appear before I think and cause I think to happen.
In terms of logic, I would say I think because I exist is more appropriate. It is because I must exist
first, therefore I can think of my existence. Things about me or myself are impossible to happen before
my existence and cause my existence. In the following paper, I would like to explain why I exist

Therefore, I can think about my existence. So I think must base on I exist . In contrast, if I exist is
based on I think , this is impossible that I think appear before I exist . How can my mind and thinking
exist dependently? Although some scientists may argue that brain wave what we call ghosts can exist
after life, they may be the other forms of human thought I think appearing without I exist . However,
who have seen ghost in this world? At least until today no one can prove ghosts exist in this world. So
I think is not the cause that I can exist. However, I exist is the cause of I can think.
To conclude, I think cannot exist without I exist . It should be I exist first then I think I exist . As the
following diagram shows:
If it is I exist because I think , it would be missing I exist in the first place, as below diagram shows:
Nothing can exist before itself, so before I think, I must exist. In other word, I exist does not
dependent on I think , but I think do dependent on I exist . Therefore, I think because I exist is

The Frontiers of American History in Last Child of the...
In the second chapter of Last Child of the Woods, Richard Louv makes the claim that there have been
three frontiers in the course of American history. The first phase was the original frontier, before the
Industrial Revolution. This was the time of the prairie schooner, the cowboy, the herds of bison that
were thousands strong. This was a rough, hard time, when man and nature were constantly thrown
together. There was wilderness to spare, and people were willing to move West to get to it. The second
phase came into being after the Industrial Revolution. Land that was available to homesteaders had
run out. Yet the American people still considered themselves frontier explorers. Times had been trying

Not only are they taught that building things outside are bad, but because of the disappearance of
natural spaces within cities, nature is not as accessible to kids. This leads to what Louv calls, Nature
Deficit Disorder, the lack of relationship between children and nature.
Richard Louv uses Logos in several different ways throughout this selection. He collects research
from many different studies, interviews parents, and finds sources from history. In his second chapter
especially, he uses numerous examples of scientific experiments to back his point that people really do
not have an adequate realization of the difference between humans and animals. In his third chapter,
he conducted an interview with a parent who had moved to a certain neighborhood because of the
abundance of outdoor areas. Louv uses this interview to illustrate his point that even if nature is
available, it really is not supposed to be used for unstructured recreation. In his second chapter, he
draws on U.S. Census Bureau reports to illustrate the decline of the family farm. He uses historical
events and ideas to show his idea of the romanticizing of the American frontier. Through these
concrete examples, he is able to persuade the reader that his ideas and theories are valid. I think that
Louv is right in his opinion that kids are losing touch with nature. This epidemic is not just in big
cities, but wherever technology has a hold. Technology has become

Notes On Variable Interest Entities
Variable Interest Entities An entity that does not have sufficient equity to finance its activities without
additional financial support, or in which the equity investors, as a group, do not have the
characteristics of a controlling financial interest is a VIE. The determination as to whether an entity
qualifies as a VIE depends on the facts and circumstances surrounding each entity and may require
significant judgment. Our investment funds generally qualify as VIEs and are evaluated for
consolidation under the VIE model. We are required to consolidate a VIE if we are the primary
beneficiary, defined as the variable interest holder with both the power to direct the activities that most
significantly impact the VIE s economic performance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Business Combinations and Goodwill Business combination transactions are accounted for under the
acquisition method. Accordingly, the purchase consideration is allocated to assets and liabilities based
on their estimated fair value at the acquisition date. The consideration for the net assets acquired is
determined prior to the assessment of the fair value of the net assets at the acquisition date. We have
identified several intangible assets acquired in business combinations including VOBA, acquired
distribution channels and state licenses. We value VOBA as described below under Deferred
Acquisition Costs, Deferred Sales Inducements and Value of Business Acquired. We value distribution
channels using the multi period excess earnings method under the income approach and the state
licenses using the market approach. Distribution channels and state licenses are included in other
assets on the consolidated balance sheets. Goodwill represents the excess of purchase consideration
over the acquisition date fair value of net assets acquired and is included in the other assets on the
consolidated balance sheets. Goodwill is not amortized but reviewed for impairment annually or more
frequently if events occur or circumstances change indicating potential impairment has occurred. If
the acquisition date fair value of the net assets acquired exceeds the purchase consideration in a

Nat Turner Outline
Nat Turner is an black man that was born in Southampton County, Virginia, On October 2, 1800. He
led a slave rebellion that was one, if not the biggest slave rebellions in history. It also took an
important role in the African American slave society. Nat Turner was born into slavery so he never
knew any kind of happiness his whole life leading up to this rebellion. He was forced to work
unbelievable hours for his masters with no sympathy in return. It was a horrible system of slavery that
Nat Turner eagerly wished to overthrow. The slaves were treated like animals. Forced to work in
whatever climate and day that their masters saw fit. This means that they can use whatever
punishment that they saw fit. Some fellow slaves saw Turner as a spiritual leader. Many people
believed that he was chosen by God to do great things for the slaves. When he was young, he claims
that he saw visions sent by god to overthrow the white evil and tyranny. Turner felt God talking to him
many times through his career as a slave. He had also been seeing signs that he felt were from above.
For example, he had seen this solar eclipse. He felt that this was a sign from God to begin preparations
to overthrow their masters and begin their revolution. He and other slaves began their preps to get it
done and alerted other slaves what they were planning on doing. Other slaves were terrified by the
idea because they felt if they were caught helping Turner then they would be persecuted for helping

CO2 is released as a waste product. The 2 carbon acetyl group binds to coenzyme A. At this point, the
process starts to move into the mitochondria and the Krebs Cycle is initiated. There is a net gain of 2
ATP and 2 molecules of NADH produced.
During Krebs Cycle, the acetyl CoA breaks down further into two molecules of carbon dioxide during
each turn of the cycle. In the process, the molecules FAD and NAD are reduced to FADH2 and
NADH. 2 ATP is generated during the Krebs Cycle.
The reduced FADH2 and NADH enter the Electron Transport System where they are re oxidized to
FAD and NAD. These electrons release energy which forms 32 ATP molecules.
During aerobic respiration, there is a total net gain of 36 ATP.

Analysis Of The Mighty Ducks D2
Released in 1994, The Mighty Ducks D2, directed by Sam Weisman is a fictional sequel based off The
Mighty Ducks (1992). It is about a youth hockey team, The Mighty Ducks, which are reunited to
represent Team USA in an international competition which takes place in Los Angeles, California. The
main characters are Coach Gordon Bombay played by Emilio Estevez, Charlie Conway played by
Joshua Jackson, as well as all the other members of the team who play pivotal roles in the film.
Mighty Ducks D2 was a film that played a vital role in influencing American born hockey players, and
kids from non traditional hockey markets to try hockey and ultimately want to represent their country
playing hockey. One of the main contributing factors to the movies success was its Entertainment
value. This is comprised of the hook, action, suspense, and TR sequence. The movie opened with a
tremendous hook starting when former minor league player and coach Gordon Bombay rounds up all
the original members of The Mighty Ducks from various areas and background to bring them back
together to play for Team USA in The Junior Goodwill Games. Action was heavily exemplified in all
their games but emphasized when they competed against the bigger, stronger, and heavily favorited
Team Iceland. They battle in the Championship game was filled with not only action but suspense, and
TR sequences. There were many massive hits, and penalties. Also, they traded goals making it hard to

How History Has Shaped The World
From the beginning of time, humans have been developing physically and mentally into the brightest
and most successful beings on earth. We ve discovered lands, invented medicines and technology, and
endured through catastrophic episodes. Everything we use in our daily lives has evolved from its
original state. Some life changing events occurred last year, or maybe centuries ago. Most people
couldn t care less how, why, when, and where occasions were taken place and think learning about the
past is useless, but I have to disagree. As a student who has been taking social studies classes since the
1st grade, I believe learning about historical people and events that have shaped the world into being
what it is today, is important. History is very important to me because it dwells within the past and
tells its events so thoroughly that you can almost imagine yourself living in that period. Plus, knowing
the tragedies and mistakes made in the past had and still helps us build a fair and just lifestyle.

Essay On Stereotypes Of Women
Children today are exposed to large amounts of television. Television is an easy way to entertain kids
for long periods of time without much effort. It is not surprising that they are watching more TV than
past generations have, but this has become a large issue because of how the media portrays women. In
addition to women only filling 28% of the roles on television when they make up 51% of the
population, women are heavily stereotyped on TV. All of the good females on television shows do not
have many speaking parts, are seen as sex objects for men, are willing to serve men, and cause trouble
for themselves that only someone strong and masculine can fix. (media reiterate the cultural image of
women as dependent, ornamental objects whose primary functions are to look good, please men, and
stay quietly on the periphery of life.) gendered media: wood This type of stereotyping is not good for
anyone but it is especially damaging to children because they are extremely pliable and their views of
the world are not fully formed yet. When you are little, someone can tell you that the world works a

worth is measured by how attractive they are to other people. Since women are told to believe that
their looks are directly related to their worth and who they are as a person it causes many of them to

Essay On The Third Amendment
In 1789, the Congress created the Bill of Rights to make sure the people are protected and the
government has limitations. The Third Amendment states, No soldier shall, in time of peace be
quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be
prescribed by law. ( Bill of Rights ). Throughout the years the amendments have been manipulated, in
a way, to be used in a certain way. In researching the Third Amendment, one will find the past and
present of the Quartering of Soldiers through the origins of the law, modern application of the
amendment, and its current effectiveness. In the origins, the Third Amendment was formulated

Today it protects the people s privacy of their house. When it was created it standed for that now

soldiers in their homes, even in time of war. (Wood). Also, Amendment 3 purpose today is to protect
the people from intruding their house. Amendment 3 supports Amendment 4, search and seizure law,
both laws ties into the rights of privacy. Ending, one can indicate that the Third Amendment s
application has differed from the 21st century and the era it was created in.
Court cases are examples of how the application of the law changed. Through the Griswold case the
Third Amendment protects the invasion of privacy by the government. The court held that statement
and they also asked if they would let the government search the bedrooms in that case. The Court
explained that the right to privacy was inherent in the First, Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Ninth
Amendments. The Bill of Rights created zones of privacy into which the government could not
intrude. ( Griswold V. Connecticut ). In the Griswold case, the Third Amendment and some other
amendments protected the rights of privacy which helped Ms. Griswold. Closing up, the Griswold
case is an example how the law applies in the world now.
In the present, the Third Amendment is rarely used by the Supreme Court and is least used in the Bill
of Rights showing the application has

Carl Rogers And The Humanistic Psychology Movement Essay
The field of psychology has evolved considerably in the last century and Carl Rogers (1902 1987) has
been one of the most influential figures contributing to its growth. Rogers is considered by many to be
the leader of the humanistic psychology movement. He spent the majority of his professional career
demonstrating how supportive, growth producing conditions can unleash healing, responsible self
direction, and creativity in individuals and groups in all walks of life (Kirschenbaum, 2004, p.121).
Today, more than half a century after publishing his theories, Rogers conditions for effective therapy
have continued to serve as a foundation for mental health professionals around the world, regardless
of their theoretical orientations.
Rogers Early Years
Rogers grew up in the Midwest with his parents, four brothers, and sister. His parents were extremely
conservative Protestants. They led family prayers on a daily basis and made every attempt to protect
their children from the corrupt influences in society (Kirschenbaum, 2004). Rogers was a sensitive
child and was easily hurt by his family s teasing; however, expressing feelings was not encouraged in
the Rogers household (Kirschenbaum, 2004). These early experiences Rogers experienced with his
family may be the most influential aspects of his childhood that contributed to the development of his
theories and the importance of understanding the subjective inner experience of the client.

Disadvantages Of Razor Blades
Introduction
Razor blades are a common topic in the world of consumers. They are available in many different
variations and from many different brands. Differences in price are huge, often resulting in frustrations
from consumers. In this thesis, I will try to explain differences between the brands by taking a closer
look at the technical aspects of the available razor blades.
Diamond like carbon is a class of amorphous carbon material which displays some typical properties
of diamond. This material is often applied as coating to other materials so that it can benefit from
some of the material properties of the DLC (diamond like carbon). It is known that one of the
properties of a DLC is a high hardness, which, on the other hand, makes it difficult to bond the
material to most metals. Some processes are known to tackle this problem, which we will discuss later.
[1]
Around the year 2000 more became known about the attractive properties of diamond like carbons and
Gillette, the market leader of razor blades, saw its potential. Gillette patented the use of particular
DLC s applied to the cutting edges of the razors. By that it improved the hardness, shave ability and

caused by the DLC s, which may not be used by store brands because of patents. Gillette has been

razors. It can really distinguish from the cheaper brands with this technology. Apparently consumers
really seem to like the razor blades with DLC film applied to it, while Gillette is the global market

  • 2. Compcompare the Ways in Which Larkin and Abse Write About... Compare the ways in which Larkin and Abse write about place. You must include detailed critical discussion of at least two poems by Larkin in your response. In timed conditions Gemma N Larkin and Abse both write about places in a very different, very unique style. One the one hand Larkin talks about the places of his past and how they are no longer accessible; the changing of a beautiful, unspoilt place to something short of an eyesore; a pace he is in but does not feel he belongs and even places within his mind. Alternatively Abse talks longingly of the places he once lived in, and how upsetting it is to find they are no longer the same. Some examples of the copious amount to choose from include Here, Mr Bleaney and Sunny Prestalyn, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, in the first stanza when describing the rural area he repeatedly uses assonance. Skies and scarecrows, haystacks, hares and pheasants these soft consonant sounds make you slow down as the repeated s sounds become hard to say, slowing you down and not allowing you to rush past these, in Larkin s case, beautiful little details of the countryside. Furthermore, Larkin s poem Mr Bleaney refers to a place that the persona does not wish to be in, yet has ended up having surrendering and suffers the consequences. Mr Bleaney is essentially a poem about a circumstantial situation that is given as a dramatic monologue, and rather like a drama, tells a story that is full of lucid mystery. The first half of the poem is slow and deliberate and helps to create a macabre feel to the poem. A change of pace occurs in the second half of the poem, though is not immediately apparent. It then seems to be despairingly urgent, as Mr Bleaney subtly moves from a recollected past to an observed present, through his mediation with the new tenant. In addition Larkin s use of listing creates a dull and monotonous feel to the place, giving the reader the feel that no one, unless in a dire situation, would want to suffer living in such an undesirable place. One may argue the most symbolic thing in the room is the sixty watt bulb . Light is a commonly used symbol to portray ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Regenerative Wound Medicine Regenerative medicine such as tissue replacement and wound healing has been used quite extensively for skin treatments over the years. Understanding the pathology of skin injury will bring effective treatments and wound healing outcomes. Several strategies like traditional skin grafts, certain biomaterials, and stem cell therapies are vital for current tissue injuries and the future of tissue regeneration. Introduction and Pathology The skin is said to be the largest organ in a human body. It is divided into 3 layers: epidermis (outer layer or superficial layer of the skin), dermis (connective tissue, hair follicles, and sweat glands), hypodermis (subcutaneous fat) (Chen, 2009). These layers act as a barrier by protecting the body from environmental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stem cells are multipotent which give rise to multiple cell types and are known for their self renewing and tissue differentiation abilities. Research has shown SCs to have successful results in the field of skin regeneration (Duscher, 2016). SCs of interest for wound healing include adult mesenchymal stem cells (MSC s), embryonic stem cells (ESC s), and induced pluripotent stem cells (IPSC s). MSCs are isolated mainly from the bone marrow and other tissues such as adipose and nerve tissues and are administered locally as well as systemically with little to no immunoreactivity (Tartarini, 2016). MSCs regenerative benefits in wound injury is not seen in its structural capabilities rather it s seen in its escape of trophic mediators (Duscher, 2016). Bone marrow MSCs injected in wound sites produce high amounts of collagen and growth factors leading to faster healing, epithelialization, angiogenesis, and cellularity (Duscher, 2016). Studies also show that bone marrow derived MSCs injected in injury sites had decreased wound size, increased vascularity and dermal thickness (Duscher, 2016). Although MSCs for wound therapy has been proven effective and well tolerated in patients, there still seems to be limitations such as invasiveness of their harvest, cost of resources, and hazards that deal with growing cell cultures to attain healing ... • 5. 710 Freeway Extension Project Essay In May of 2015, the California Department of Transportation and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority held a public hearing to gather feedback from the community about potential environmental concerns related to the 710 Freeway extension project. In a report released by Caltrans earlier that year, five potential alternatives were mentioned in relation to the closure of the 4.5 mile gap in the freeway (between Alhambra and Pasadena). These alternatives included bus and rail lines and a dual bore tunnel. The idea to skip use the gap to build a new neighborhood came from a Pasadena based architectural firm, Stefanos Polyzoides with Moule Polyzoides. Polyzoides suggests that Caltrans sell the land near the northern end of where the 710 Freeway is supposed to be to the city of Pasadena. The city could then redevelop the land into housing, businesses, etc. His mention of incorporating a tree boulevard only makes the plan sound better. The Pasadena architect presented his plan at a West Pasadena Residents Association meeting. It included a mixture of single family housing on the southern end of the 50 acre segement in Pasadena with more dense housing closer to the 210 Freeway. Of course, businesses would be incorporated throughout the neighborhood, as well. The design is being compared to Old Town Pasadena. Pasadena mayor, Terry Tornek, is planning to put a repeal of Measure A on the November ballot. (Measure A is the voter approved 2001 measure supporting the completion of the 710 Freeway). By doing so, he feels that the freeway extension project would be essentially taken out of the game and Caltrans might then decide to sell the land and make the Pasadena architect s vision of a new neighborhood in the freeway gap a ... • 6. News From Nowhere By William Morris Essay William Morris novel News from Nowhere is portrayed as a utopic vision of a world that not only abolishes the class system, but is created through the transition from working in order to survive to working for the pleasure of it. Consequently, his novel may seem only as a vision due to its idealistic reasoning as to how his portrayed world dependant on nature and people s nature could possibly exist and support itself. Even though this is merely theory on his part, his essay Useful Work versus Useless Toil supports a better understanding of Morris conceptualization of enjoyable labour within his ideal future society in his novel News from Nowhere because it suggests how finding pleasure in doing work leads to a better and enlightened society. Morris clearly separates labour between pre and post revolution by highlighting and redefining the terms civilization and society in which a true society is only possible once the class system is destroyed and people are treated as equals. In the novel, the narrator William Guest asks Hammond how his 19th century world shifted to the elder s, and the answer is the revolution leading to the abolishment of social class. According to Hammond, he defines civilization as organized misery in which he criticizes the class system for denigrating the lower classes into subservient people unknowingly supporting and enriching the middle and upper classes while scrapping by with little reward to their own lifestyle (Morris 125). ... This lamb was to spark a controversy that would be one of the defining arguments of this era. This lamb, simply named Dolly (after Dolly Parton in reference to the mammary cell used as the donor), was the first clone to be born using specialized cells from an adult mammal. The fact that the lamb was cloned from these specialized cells such as muscle cells, liver cells, or mammary cells is what made this discovery of such importance. As the procedure stands now, the cloning of humans is immoral. The procedure used has a low success rate and disfiguration and death is not uncommon, but that is because it has only been developed to be used on animals, with which these types of losse s are far more acceptable. What New York City offers its inhabitants is quite unique from other places. It also offers the ability to know about people from other countries, it s full of diversity. It offers endless adventures to grow. Furthermore, it offers the feeling of being in a neighborhood where you feel like home. The idea of the diversity in New York it sounds strange to me at the first, I doubt it. At first, my idea was mundane because I get used to watching just one side of the inhabitants, and it was the side of the Hispanic people. After, going to BMCC everything changed. I started to see New York with new eyes and I started to learn a lot about cultures, for example, the scarf that Muslim women wear, which its name is hijab. Now, a quote who supports this is from the Garnette Cadogan eloquent essay, Immigrants are central to the allure of the city. It s a truism the city repeats endlessly to itself: Immigrants provide a rich diversity and cosmopolitan flavor that awaken one s sense and enliven one s sense of identity. However, driving in circles is nowhere near a complete explanation of what a racecar driver can do. Most people know racecar drivers drive with the purpose of going fast. Their goal when driving a racecar is to get from point A to point B as fast as possible. They drive endless loops of a racing circuit to improve previous lap times by milliseconds, just to say they were the fastest. This is something that few understand, and racecar drivers have difficulty explaining why this is their passion to others. It s almost as if they are looking into a different boxcar than others. Sometimes when people think of a racecar driver, they think, Can t anyone drive a car? or Oh driving in circles like NASCAR? That must be easy. These answers couldn t be farther from the reality, and it s astonishing how unknown the world of auto racing is to many people. Racing is not just driving per se. Racing is the art of driving fast with a bunch of other like minded idiots, who all risk their lives with the, widely misunderstood, willingness to endanger their life just to say they beat the other guy. Bilingual Advantages In Executive Function Bilingual advantages in executive function In a study of bilingual adults, non verbal executive functions were found to be a key mechanism system used to solve two or more linguistic conflicts caused by the process of manifesting language co activation of bilingualism (Ellen Bialystok, 2015). Behavioral visual tracking, event related potential and functional magnetic resonance imaging studies support the argument of co language activation. The two implications are related to the viewpoint that this language conflict management is the basic mechanism for the bilingual effect on cognition. The first suggestion is that this effect is inherently available due to training in increasing experience frequency. Therefore, there is evidence that bilingual experience increases cognitive benefits. In a recent study focusing on bilingual advantages in executive function, monolingual participants who took a one year college level course in introductory Spanish or introductory psychology were tested before and after the executive function of ERP recording (Sullivan, M. Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus And Mellitus Introduction: Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that occurs when insulin producing beta cells of the pancreas are damaged or are being destroyed (Mahan, Escott Stump Raymond, 2012). The gradual destruction of the beta cells of the pancreas usually leads to complete insulin deficiency, which ultimately manifests itself in the following symptoms at clinical onset: high blood glucose (hyperglycemia), frequent urination (polyuria), excessive thirst (polydipsia), and a significant amount of weight loss, dehydration, electrolyte disturbances and ketoacidosis , requiring dependency of exogenous insulin in order to promote optimal glycemic control in order to prevent further more severe complications; such as, ketoacidosis, microvascular diseases, macrovascular diseases, neuropathy, or worse Death (Mahan et al., 2012). Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus can result from two existing forms: 1. Immune mediated diabetes Mellitus, which is characterized by autoimmune destruction of the beta cells of the pancreas and an idiopathic (unknown cause) commonly seen in ethnic groups of African or Asian descent (Mahan et al., 2012). Of all diagnosed diabetes cases, prevalence of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus cases account for 5% 10%, and although onset may present itself at any age, 70% of cases are diagnosed in young adults (younger than age 30), with a peak in occurring incidences seen mostly in children and adolescents (Mahan et al., 2012). This places Sivapithecus indicus roughly 15 million years after, suggesting that Sivapithecus indicus directly evolved from Proconsul heseloni. This was a rough, hard time, when man and nature were constantly thrown together. There was wilderness to spare, and people were willing to move West to get to it. He was forced to work unbelievable hours for his masters with no sympathy in return. It was a horrible system of slavery that Nat Turner eagerly wished to overthrow. The slaves were treated like animals. Forced to work in whatever climate and day that their masters saw fit. This means that they can use whatever punishment that they saw fit. Some fellow slaves saw Turner as a spiritual leader. Many people believed that he was chosen by God to do great things for the slaves. When he was young, he claims that he saw visions sent by god to overthrow the white evil and tyranny. Turner felt God talking to him many times through his career as a slave. He had also been seeing signs that he felt were from above. For example, he had seen this solar eclipse. He felt that this was a sign from God to begin preparations to overthrow their masters and begin their revolution. He and other slaves began their preps to get it done and alerted other slaves what they were planning on doing. Other slaves were terrified by the idea because they felt if they were caught helping Turner then they would be persecuted for helping him and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At this point, the process starts to move into the mitochondria and the Krebs Cycle is initiated. There is a net gain of 2 ATP and 2 molecules of NADH produced. In the process, the molecules FAD and NAD are reduced to FADH2 and NADH. 2 ATP is generated during the Krebs Cycle. The reduced FADH2 and NADH enter the Electron Transport System where they are re oxidized to FAD and NAD. These electrons release energy which forms 32 ATP molecules. It is not surprising that they are watching more TV than past generations have, but this has become a large issue because of how the media portrays women. He spent the majority of his professional career demonstrating how supportive, growth producing conditions can unleash healing, responsible self direction, and creativity in individuals and groups in all walks of life (Kirschenbaum, 2004, p.121). Differences in price are huge, often resulting in frustrations from consumers. In this thesis, I will try to explain differences between the brands by taking a closer look at the technical aspects of the available razor blades. Diamond like carbon is a class of amorphous carbon material which displays some typical properties of diamond. This material is often applied as coating to other materials so that it can benefit from some of the material properties of the DLC (diamond like carbon). It is known that one of the properties of a DLC is a high hardness, which, on the other hand, makes it difficult to bond the material to most metals. Some processes are known to tackle this problem, which we will discuss later. [1] Around the year 2000 more became known about the attractive properties of diamond like carbons and Gillette, the market leader of razor blades, saw its potential.
