George W. Bush Administration
The George W. Bush administration is remarkably renowned for passing a major tax cuts package,
known as the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001, (Bartels, 2005, p. 19). The
package postulated a reduction in the federal income tax rates, increment in the child credits,
augmented tax free retirement contributions and the educational savings account, as well as a gradual
elimination of the US estate tax. The entire tax package was to cost the US Treasury over $1.3 trillion
(excluding interest) up to 2010, the expected expiry time of the package. If the system was to continue
in the later years, the Treasury could end up spending over $200 billion each year. According to
Bartels (2005), The Bush move was supported by the ordinary citizens before the passage of the
package. The people s support was not meant to imply the way they were impressed with the package
as contributing to inequality, as they were mainly concerned with their own individual welfare.
Notably, they wanted a system that could relieve them from paying massive or burdensome amounts
of taxes. Though contrary to the perception of the legislation by the people and their personal
preferences regarding it, 36% of the tax benefits were to accrue to the richest, who comprised only one
percent of the American population. The share was almost equal to the one that was received by those
in the bottom who constituted around 80% of the population (Hacker Pierson, p. 33).

Edm Songs Analysis
Top 10 Best Electronic Dance Music Songs of June MusicSnake One of the newest types of music is
EDM (Electronic Dance Music), which has become extremely popular in only a short period of time.
Here are the top ten EDM songs of June that you should definitely listen to this summer: Number Ten:
Break Free by Ariana Grande feat. Zedd This song is quite a different style for pop princess Ariana
Grande, who is much more used to having traditional pop and some R B influences in her tracks. Her
collaboration with Russian and German producer Zedd is arguably one of the best songs off of her
sophomore album My Everything (2014) because it has stood the test of time and is still frequently
played on the radio today. The chorus is incredibly invigorating ... Show more content on

However, in my opinion, Gomez does a far better job than Grande with this transition. While Ariana
Grande s voice may technically be far superior, Gomez s voice is definitely more suited for this
particular style. This song falls under the more stereotypical, party themed EDM song, but is still a
great track nonetheless. The fun and playful lyrics of this song include I want you to know that it s our
time / You and me bleed the same light / I want you to know that I m all yours / You and me are the
same force. Number Five: Cool by Alesso feat. Roy English Out of all of the songs that I discovered at
Coachella, this is definitely my favorite. One of the reasons that this song is so incredible is because it
contains so many different electronic melodies that greatly surprise the listener upon first hearing the
track. In addition, this record is an excellent EDM song because the tempo varies greatly throughout,
yet the listener is always engaged. Roy English sings lyrics such as Before you, love, I was lost /
Drifting at sea / You were the beacon I followed home / You were the one who rescued me that add a
romantic aspect to the song as well. Number Four: Where Are Ü Now by Skrillex Diplo feat. Justin

Analysis Of The Movie Rampart
The movie, Rampart, which is set in Los Angeles in 1999 and focused on the life of 24 year veteran
Officer Dave Brown of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) as a part of the Rampart division.
He is a man of his own breed who follows his own code of justice disregarding the solid line that
stands between right and wrong. Brown is prone to using violence and intimidation to maintain his
own idea that he is the unnoticed, underappreciated vigilante for the public. Although he has a hero
complex, he does not seem to form intimate emotional connections, even though he was married to
two women (both of which are sisters) and has a daughter by each woman. Neither of the women
seemed to feel any emotional connection to Brown seeing as they all live together for the sake of the
children, regardless of the obvious fact that his children do not seem to have a strong bond with him
either. Years earlier Brown was involved in the death of a suspected serial rapist, which put the police
department under stress as well as earned him the nickname Date Rape Dave . To further the spotlight
on the LAPD and Officer Brown, a video was aired on the local television stations of Brown
unnecessarily beating an individual who crashed into the back of his police vehicle. An assistant DA
pressures and urges Brown to retire to try and prevent the police department from undergoing more
fire and speculation from the public. The actions of Brown thrusts a tear in the relationship between

Tragic Figure In Antigone
In Sophocles Antigone, Kreon and Antigone encountered opposing obligations torn between their duty
to their people and Thebes and their duty to their family and gods. While Kreon ultimately chose his
people and Thebes, Antigone chose her family and gods. This conflict of obligation between the two
caused the strife between the two and resulted in the demise of both characters. They could both
represent tragic figures, but Kreon is the most tragic figure in the play. His adherence to his duty as
king to his people and Thebes over his duty to his family resulted in the death of his family, thus he
must live the rest of his life acknowledging the fact that the loss of his loved ones was caused by his
pride and stubbornness. This outcome is far ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite her focus on her obligation to family leading to her downfall, she is not the most tragic figure
in the play. In Sophocles Antigone, Antigone chose her brother over her community s unjust laws
imposed by Kreon. Her reason for such a defiance is best summed up by her response to Ismene when
she reveals her plan to break the law. You be as you think best, but I shall bury him. I ll lie there, dear
to him, with my dear friend, when I ve performed this crime of piety; for I must please those down
below a longer time than those up here, since I shall lie there always (71 76). It is clear from this
conversation between the two that Antigone feels an obligation to her family and brother to give him
the proper burial. She makes it clear that her brother was very dear to her and she loved him deeply.
Her deep love for him made her capable of defying her community s laws and face death. She would
rather lie in death next to her brother than never see her brother given the proper customary burial that
all in the community receive. This deep love is also shown to her sister as she is willing to deny that
her sister knew anything about her plan in order to ensure her sister does not get harmed.

Brian s Motivation In Hatchet
In the beginning of Hatchet, Brian is still learning what his surroundings include, such as raspberries,
gut cherries, and wood. He would not be able to make the shelter he made without his mostly good
attitude and his motivation. When he finds out that he has to strike the hatchet on the wall of the
alcove to make fire, he tries. It takes a lot of effort and he almost gave up, but his motivation saved
him and he was able to make this fire, even though it took almost a day. He succeeded in making his
fire and he was indeed satisfied. The fire helped him with many other achievements throughout the
book such as first meat, protection, and bug repellent. Near the middle of the book, Brian is attacked
by a porcupine and he is hurt. In later experiences

Alternate Ending To Frankenstein Essay
Opening my eyes to the complete darkness and loneliness, I swung awake. The last thing I can
remember is the dog running out into the road, the brightness of the day light, and the car headed off
the road. As my head cleared, I realize I m hanging upside down. Feet and legs completely binded.
Hearing something breathing behind me was very unsettling. From what I could see and feel this was
a cold and dank cave. There was the dim light of a fire shining shadows across the open cavern. My
wallet, watch, and an old pocket knife I always had on me was feet away on a stone pedestal. Dad
always kept his Swiss Army Knife in his pocket no matter where he went.

The only way I could go now was forward and if it didn t lead anywhere nothing could be done and I
will have to save myself from this living nightmare. The room ahead had old writing and painting on
the wall which told a story. First there was a man laying on a table and there was people surrounding
him with their hands raised to the sky. He seemed to be struggling on the table and then words were
written next to it but it was a strange language I had never seen before. The next two were very faint
and couldn t be seen. Finally I came upon the picture of the man on the table but he had endured a
great change. He was just like the creature that was hunting me as I read the last words on the wall
which were in english. Wendigo. Long ago there was this old show that told me about a whole bunch
of Native American myths and the Wendigo was one of them, I had heard of this creature once before.

Analysis Of No Time To Stop By Kate Hosking
The feature articles No Time to Stop written by Kate Legge and The Ugly Truth about Beauty by Julie
Hosking, embody a range of generic conventions. Both articles make use of conventions such as a
descriptive opening paragraph, graphics and omission, to allow the journalists to present their ideas
and opinions effectively to the reader. A common idea evident in both texts relate to children and
society; the first article conveniently stating that if only we more willing to help and were less
engrossed in our own lives, a young boy would ve been reluctant to see the next day. The other article
deals with a young girl, who has been deprived of a normal childhood through the accessorisation of
her falsified childhood. These ideas, together ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The immediate pronunciation of Kieran s death, by then he was dead , leaves the reader guilt stricken,
contemplating that maybe if people were less engrossed in their own lives and more attentive to
others, Kieran would be alive today. In the second article, The Ugly Truth about Beauty Julie Hosking
compares the lives of two girls, showing two extremes a little Somalian girl and American girl. The
contrast between these girls displays how invigorating the little American princesses childhood is,
alternatively how depressing the little Somalian girl s childhood is. The first one lives in a dustbowl,
nothing between her and unforgiving sky. Her clothes are torn and dirty, her feet rough and bare. The
second lives in a four bedroom house surrounded by trophies. Her clothes are covered in feathers and
sequins, manicured feet ensconced in silver heels . The descriptive comparison between the two girls
in the opening paragraph entices the reader and notes how the African child is deprived of her
childhood because of hunger and poverty and how deceptive the other little girl s childhood is through
the glamorisation and vicarious motives of her mother.
The second device utilised in both articles were graphics . In

Epicondylitis Case Study
Tested For:
The Golfer s Elbow Special Test is designed to confirm the diagnosis of medial epicondylitis.1
Test Performance:
To perform this test, the patient should be seated or standing, while making a fist on the involved
side.1 The therapist should use one hand to stabilize along the distal humerus while simultaneously
palpating the medial epicondyle.1 With the other hand, the therapist should then passively supinate the
forearm and extend the elbow and wrist.1 Pain or discomfort along the medial region of the elbow is
positive for medial epicondylitis.1 If the patient does not experience any pain or discomfort along the
medial epicondyle during this test, then they most likely do not have medial epicondylitis.1

Personal Narrative-Tale House
As our family watches the T.V. screen we sit hoping that our ticket may be the ticket, but we well
know that the chance of us winning this lottery is like a one in a million chances.
Our small one story house lies on the west side of my school in Opal Street California. We have a
three bedroom, two bath house. Our house is pretty small, but I still love it since this is the house I
grew up in. Even though I am not one of the popular kids in school, and don t have all the new high
fashioned things; I m still very grateful of everything I have.
My mom Carol hums in the kitchen while she cooks dinner for tonight. It smells like my favorite meal
lasagna.

Symbols and Symbolism in Young Goodman Brown Essay
Within the Christian faith, there lies the belief that all mankind are born sinners and through their faith
can seek redemption. This belief can be found in more detail within the Christian text known as the
Bible. An example of this can be found in the Genesis chapter of the Bible which portrays that even
the very first Humans ever to be created in God s image, named Adam and Eve, defied God despite his
pre emptive warnings not too because of their natural tendency as humans to sin. Not only can one
chose with their own will to disobey God but one s faith can be easily swayed by the evils of the world
therefore sin can forever bind them in chains for eternity. Young Goodman Brown, by Nathaniel
Hawthorne, reveals a similar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hawthorne uses this quote as an underlying statement that it wasn t just his wife that held him back
from his rendezvous with the Devil, but also his Faith in God. Hawthorne meant for the reader to
make the connection between Goodman s Wife, Faith and Goodman s faith in God for which both
attempt to sway Goodman from following the path the Devil intends for him.
Hawthorne in essence, portrayed Goodman as proof of the nature of evil in man by showing how
easily even a young dedicated Puritan can easily be influenced by a complete stranger. This stranger
was symbolically the Devil among men in this text. Hawthorne begins introducing the Devil
immediately as trying to sway Goodman to follow him on a long journey. By leaving his wife, Faith to
begin the journey, Goodman Brown was symbolically leaving his faith in God and entering a forsaken
ground by following the Devil. The fact that Goodman Brown left with no regard for his wife Faith s
warning, symbolized the lack of regard for his own faith in God and his fellow human race. This
simple disregard that Goodman Brown showed was evidence of the easily persuaded ability of man to
choose sin over good.
The man that Goodman Brown encountered on his journey symbolized the devil in the text which
strongly influenced him to just about give up his faith in God. The Devil disguised as a fellow traveler
(266) tried to influence Goodman Brown by

Geese in the rear of the V promote their encouragement by honking to one another during flight. Like
geese, we let each other know that if one of us should fall, there is a cushion of help and support
waiting. Some of us would have possibly given up if not for the inspiration of others. We have
depended upon each other to get the job done. We have stood beside on another for all these years.
Displaying our affection is done by simply being there for one another, again similar to the goose.
When one goose is unable to fly, two other geese will accompany it until it either dies or can again
return to the skies. They help nourish it by supplying it with food. They help protect it from predators.
And when the time arrives for it to fly again, they are right there beside it. As classmates we were
given the opportunity to establish lifelong friendships. Most of us seized it, even embraced it with
open arms. Like the geese, we helped to regenerate the faith we have in ourselves thus enabling us to
have faith in each other. Geese have perfected the art of sharing leadership. The lead goose will fly at
the tip of the V until it is so weary from breaking the wind for the other that it has to rely on another to
take its place. It will then fall back and let the air lift created by the others to elevate it. One person, or
goose, can get so far, but many are unstoppable. Together, we have persevered

Witchcraft Hysteria By Laurie Winn Carlson
As Peter S Beagle says, You ever want to see real witchcraft, you watch people protecting their
comfort, their beliefs. This quote is saying if you want to truly understand someone, learn about what
they believe in. It all began in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. The accusations toward people who
were thought to be witches was on the rise. These would not be the kind of witches a person would
think about in today s world, but women and men who were put on trial for witchcraft hysteria, which
in turn caused mass hysteria. Based on the excerpts from Carol Karlsen and Laurie Winn Carlson,
there are two main theories about the Salem Witchcraft Hysteria. One theory about the witches was
crafted and explained by Carol Karlsen. She believed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following this, in January 1692, nine year old Elizabeth Parris and eleven year old Abigail Williams
began having fits. The fits included violent contortions and uncontrollable outbursts of screaming.
After a local doctor by the name of William Griggs diagnosed the girls with bewitchment, other girls
in the area began to exhibit similar symptoms. After Elizabeth Parris and Abigail Williams both had
symptoms of being witches, it spread like wildfire in the community, followed by many others having
similar symptoms. As stated by A E networks, a historical archive website, As hysteria spread through
the community and beyond into the rest of Massachusetts, a number of others were accused, including
Martha Corey and Rebecca Nurse both regarded as upstanding members of church and community
and the four year old daughter of Sarah Good. After a while the trials became very overwhelming and
concerning to others in the community. The historical events of Salem are documented, however
historians have yet to come to consensus on the true cause of the hysteria. Many textbooks and articles
detail the Salem Witchcraft trials of 1692, as well as the many theories. A highly respected theory
centers around the idea that the witchcraft was basically people just having hallucinations. As Laurie
Carlson states in her argument, Between 1689 and 1700 the citizens complained of symptoms that
included fits, spectral visions, mental distraction , pinching

The Chuckwallas and Evolutionary Research
Ever since Charles Darwin s first publication of On the Origin of Species in 1859, island habitats have
been used by a number of scientists as the most efficient laboratories to observe the natural process of
evolution taking place in modern day organisms. Several kilometers northeast of the Galapagos
Islands, where Darwin famously performed his research, is a small group of islands in the Sea of
Cortés, also known as the Gulf of California, between the Baja California peninsula and Mexico (see
Figure 1 on page 18). Here many evolutionary biologists of the 20th and 21st century performed
research on the insular organisms inhabiting these island habitats. One group of lizards in particular
known by the common name chuckwallas has gained a lot of focus in evolutionary research.
Chuckwallas is the name of organisms in the Sauromalus genus apart of the Iguanidae family. They
are herbivorous lizards commonly found in the deserts of southwestern United States and Northern
Mexico. Three species, in particular, are found on the islands off the cost of the mainland within the
Sea of Cortés: Sauromalus obesus (= ater), Sauromalus varius, and Sauromalus hispidus (see Figure 2
on page 20). S. obesus is a common species found on the mainland as well as few islands, while S.
varius are S. hispidus are endemic to specific islands in the Sea of Cortés: mainly San Esteban Island
and Angel de la Guarda Island, respectively. Both of these insular species also show signs of
gigantism

Baptist Churches Essay
Baptist Churches Calvary Baptist Church, that s the name of the church I recently attended, and
although it was a lot different from my own catholic faith, I enjoyed it very much. The Pastor, Sergio
Reyes, started out the service with an opening prayer which led us into a hymn about America and
how wonderful our country is. Most of the songs we sang were about America, considering the fact
that Independence Day was right around the corner. After a few songs and a few prayers Pastor Reyes
got up to deliver his sermon, or message as he liked to put it. The message was one that hit me kind of
hard, he was telling us how the majority of Americans don t like to hear the truth, mainly because the
truth hurts. He was also saying how we, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of their belief in a general atonement these believers were know as General Baptists. A
second group of Baptists began during the 1630s they were known as the Jacob Lathrop Jessey
church, named for its first three pastors: Henry Jacob (1563 1624), John Lathrop (1653), and Henry
Jessey (1601 1663). They were known as particular Baptists because of their belief that Christ died for
a particular group of people the elect chosen out of gods mercy before the foundation of the world.
They also believed that all people were born in total depravity worthy only of complete damnation by
a just and righteous God. Yet God, in mercy, had elected some individuals to salvation
unconditionally, a result of Gods sovereign choice, not because of any merit in the individual believer.
All the elect would be saved through Gods irresistible grace and would persevere in Christian
discipleship until the end. Therefore Christ death on the cross was particular to the elect and did not
apply to the entire human race. Thus by the 1640s there were two distinguishable and diverse groups
of Baptists in England. Each using a common set of practices but presenting totally different
theological ideals. By the 1650s another group of Baptists had appeared in England. These Baptists
were known as Seventh Day Baptists because they insisted that Saturday was the divinely

Adolf Hitler And Pol Pot
There have been many cases of mass genocide in history. One such case was Adolf Hitler was a
dictator who was leader of the Nazi party in Germany. The Nazis committed a mass genocide of the
Jewish people, and anyone else who they didn t see to be perfect . Hitler s goal was to reform
Germany into a utopian, or perfect society. Similar is a Cambodian man called Pol Pot, who also
committed a mass genocide in order to make the perfect society. He lead the communist group in
Cambodia, the Khmer Rouge using the people s fear and easily given trust. While the public s opinion
of Pol Pot and the goals and impacts of the movement is important to know about, his overall life is
more important to know about because it shaped his character which would cause the Cambodian
genocide. Pol Pot had a privileged way of growing up compared to other Cambodians, which led him
to think that he was superior to others. He was able to quickly gain power due to the people s already
bad feelings towards the previous government. With that power Pol Pot made a lot of choices that
would forever impact Cambodia, such as a mass genocide.
Pol Pot had a better time growing up in Cambodia than most, and was known for liking sports and the

The Legal System
To the legal system, the answer is clear: children have the requisite moral sense the ability to tell right
from wrong by age 7 to 15, depending on which state they live in, and so can be held responsible for
their actions. The Roman Catholic Church pegs it at the early end of that range: children reach the age
of reason by the tender age of 7, a milestone marked by their first confession of sin and holy
communion. Developmental psychologists and other researchers who study the question are not so
sure. How old a child must be to both know in his mind and feel in his heart that lying, stealing,
cheating, hurting let alone murdering are morally wrong is a matter of scientific debate.
But the question of when is not nearly so fraught ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason is that empathy, the key emotion supporting a sense of right and wrong, emerges early and,
it seems, naturally. Babies cry in response to the wails of other babies, and not just because it s a
sound that upsets them, notes Carolyn Zahn Waxler of the National Institute of Mental Health. They
cry more in response to human cries than to other aversive sounds. Somehow, there s a built in
capacity to respond to the needs of others. Babies as young as 1 try to console others in distress.
Toddlers offer their security blanket to a teary eyed parent or a favorite toy to a distraught sibling, as if
understanding that the very object that brings them comfort will do the same to another.
Although there seems to be some heritable component to empathy identical twins, who have identical
genes, show more similarity in their response to others distress than fraternal twins do it can be
twisted, warped or crushed like a fragile sprout. Empathy means, at heart, the ability to respond to
another s distress in a way more appropriate to her situation than to your own. The development of
empathy has a lot to do with how children experience emotions and how people respond to their
emotional states, argues Berkowitz. It s not automatic. If a child s sadness is met with stony silence
rather than a hug, if her loneliness is met with continued abandonment,

Building A Small Town With Its Own Life
Wangshu said: I want to build a small town with its own life, which could once again, wake up the
latent memory of the city.
Under the trend of globalization Chinese architects are always struggling in how to engage in the trend
of globalization and keep its unique culture and tradition. There are a large of numbers of cities in
China undergoing a delirious wave of development. Traditional dwellings are demolished everyday
replaced by high rise commercial high rise buildings which has no characteristic. The image of cities
became similar and lost their identity. There are normally two ways to deal with this identity crisis.
One way is to build landmark to display it character which always ignore the tradition of the city. An
example is the Galaxy Soho designed Zaha Hadid, which as a giant out space invader intrude in a
historical area of Beijing Hutong area without any considering the surrounding texture and culture.
The other way is considering the tradition but in fact it just superficially make a direct reference to
tradition forms. For example, on the street of Xi an the first capital city in China, there are a lots of
buildings topped with a pitched roof on high rise to structure or Shanghai Museum which directly
mimic a form of traditional cooking vessel. Those buildings always as kitsch for their superficial
mimic.

Defining Moments In My Life
Having defining moments, critical choices and pivotal people in your life is very important. Its
something to base your life off of, having these key parts in your history is what built you to who you

Nt1310 Unit 3 Penetration Testing
Our company is looking for security threats inside and outside their network. The best way to see what
our network is vulnerable to is to use penetration testing (pen testing) to find the leaks in and out of

intruder trying to get unauthorized access to the infrastructure. With this type of testing the intent is to
discover flaws in the security settings of the system before they can be exploited. Information

Renewable And Non Renewable Energy Sources
Renewable and non renewable energy sources are used daily in our lives. According to Conserve
Energy Future (n.d.), Renewable energy is the energy from natural sources i.e. sun, wind, rain, tides
and can be generated again and again as and when required [...] Non Renewable energy is the energy
which is taken from the sources that are available on the earth in limited quantity and will vanish fifty
sixty years from now. Finding ways to use renewable energy sources rather than non renewable source
would help stop the negative environmental impacts created by a growing human population and
would be very beneficial to our society. Today, I will assess my own energy use; determine which
renewable sources of energy would be the most and least appropriate for where I live; discuss the
advantages and disadvantages of the energy sources I currently rely on; describe how technological
advancements have facilitated the implementation of renewable energy; and discuss ways in which I
could reduce energy used at home, work or in other areas of my daily life.
Energy Self Assessment I live in Lincoln, NE and energy plays a key role throughout my daily
process. A few examples of energy use for me are: using gasoline to drive to work; the lights that

Analysis Of Ezekiel s The Book Of Ezekiel
The Book of Ezekiel contains three different sections in which all three address a subject matter. There
s almost nothing mentioned about Ezekiel in the book, his name is only mentioned twice surprisingly.
Ezekiel was one of the more youthful men taken to Babylon in the first captivity, which happened in
597 B.C. In spite of the fact that Ezekiel existed amid a period when the Babylonians consistently
crushed Israel his confidence stayed solid with one God, Yahweh. Not at all like Ezekiel, countless
Israelites in the midst of this time had faith in more than just one god. Yahweh did not agree with this
in light of the way that the Israelites went into a concurrence with him. This vow suggested that they
couldn t continue admiring different icons, for on the off chance that they did Yahweh would radiate
his fury upon them. Ezekiel understood this and he knew that this was the reason why they were being
punished. Yahweh utilizes Ezekiel to transfer this message to his kin and reveal to them the discipline
that they will need to uncover due to their wrongdoings.
The book opens with a record of the vision that summoned Ezekiel to his prophetic calling. In his
vision he saw a human like creature with four faces and four wings, and above these creatures was a
dome that looked like a throne. On that throne was a human like figure that resembles the power of
God. Ezekiel portrays his vision as a complex picture that symbolizes the magnificence of Yahweh
and broadcasts Yahweh s

Niccolo Machiavelli s The Prince attempts to explain the necessary tactics and required knowledge a
ruler must attain in order to gain and maintain a successful reign. The novel serves as an abstract
manual, addressing the definition of a good/bad ruler by placing emphasis on the required military
organization, the character a ruler must posses, and the success that could be attained if a ruler should
follow the guide. The scope in which the book is written is that of a scholarly observant. Machiavelli

Warning that Mercenaries and Auxiliaries are useless and dangerous... (40) any use of either will surly
hinder, even destroy success. Mercenaries are described to be power hungry, undisciplined and
disloyal; lacking any fear of God therefore, placing no faith in their fellow man. Truly, they are
pretenders whom face a friend with bravery, yet are cowardly upon battle. Consequently, Auxiliaries
whom are called for defense and assistance are also ill advised by Machiavelli. Auxiliaries are the
other useless kind of troops... (44) here he uses the example of Pope Julius II and his failure upon
battle, concluding that anyone who doesn t want to succeed should use this form of recourse. With
both of Mercenaries and Auxiliaries there is no loyalty nor sense of fellowship, which are essential in
military success. The importance of trust and loyalty in a military force must also be exemplified by a
leader; ...armed forces must be under the control of either a prince or a republic: a prince should
assume personal command and captain his troops himself. (41) there must be a relationship that binds
soldiers to a purpose. A purpose, that leads to the understanding that in order for a goal to be attained,
a unit must be formed bound by trust and comradeship. If a ruler is able to attain a fighting force to be
as one, then he is proven to be a good ruler. Machiavelli uses examples such as Rome

Nonetheless, she was involved in a car accident, which caused her to lose her mom and her sight. In

Value Of Shame In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
Carissa Larriuz
Mrs. Gordon
English 11
29 April 2018
The Value of Shame In modern culture, it is often used as a great threat and punishment to be publicly
shamed, multiple judges of the court even sentence this as a punishment. When the term is used
loosely, it appears an inappropriate alternative to jail time, yet when speculated closely, public shame
is in some ways worse than being put away in a cell. This can be argued due to the behavior spectators
display with involvement in the situation firsthand. I believe that although in some cases public shame
could be excessive and not fit the crime correctly, that public shaming is an effective and influential
form of punishment for certain crimes.
Primitively, According to the 8th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This concept has existed almost as long as humans themselves, right from the beginning of creation in
the story of The Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were tempted into committing the first crime known
to man and once committed they were punished publicly by being unclothed. This nakedness and
sense of vulnerability was a form of public shame because their entity was exposed and they were
provided this punishment as a reflection of self assessment. This similar idea is conveyed in Nathaniel
Hawthorne s novel The Scarlet Letter. In the most basic sense, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale and
Hester Prynne represent the primary characters in the biblical story of the Garden of Eden, Adam and
Eve. The first scaffold scene, where Hester stands alone with her baby in her arms, in terms of
similarities between the story and the biblical one of Adam and Eve, plays on the biblical fact that Eve
is said to have eaten the fruit first and then convinced Adam to eat it afterward. The community s
belief that women are, by nature, sinful, is backed up by the interpretation of the biblical story and
therefore shown in their acts of ridicule to Hester alone. Overall, the use of public humiliation as a
way of instilling social discipline in in many ways highly effective when used suitably. It may lack
effectiveness if the offender in question

Beethoven Piano Sonata Analysis
Beethoven was one of the most influential composers of the late classical era. Of all the forms of
music he composed one constant during Beethoven s career were his piano sonatas, which were
composed during his early, middle, and late periods. These sonatas far exceeded those created by
composers before and are considered to be the bridge between salon music and the concert hall for
solo piano repertoire. The early sonatas follow the same traditions established by Mozart and Haydn
and by the end of the late period are radically different from conventional form. The late sonatas, Op.
101, 106, 109, 110, and 111, are distinctly different from the other sonatas that came before in their
style, forms, and composition. The pieces that I have chosen are the last five piano sonatas from
Beethoven s late period. These pieces are reflective of the changes of Beethoven s compositional style
as in his older age he began to stretch the limits of the classical style. The piano sonatas are reflective
of what he was doing in all of his later works and are sort of condensed versions that still show the
same ideas. Because piano sonatas were composed throughout his lifetime, they can be interpreted as
a timeline of the changes in Beethoven s style of composing, particularly in the late sonatas.
Beethoven had never been a very rapid composer and these five sonatas were the chief output of six
years of work in the second to last decade of his life. Beethoven s increasing deafness was a major

Studies and Techniques for Teaching Children with Autism
There are many diseases and disorders that plague today s world, but one of the most serious of those
disorders is autism. In fact, autism is the third most common developmental disability affecting four
hundred thousand people worldwide (Autism Society of America). As of yet there is no treatment for
autism, only a variety of dealing with this disorder. Autism is a process disorder of brain function.
People with autism have trouble in communication, social interactions and play activities. This
disorder makes it difficult for them to connect to the outside world. It is difficult for them to
communicate with other people. In some cases people with autism has Aggressive and self injurious
behavior. They may represent repeated body movement, such as rocking or hands flapping and

Human Law Vs. Divine Law
Human Law vs. Divine Law
Morality is principles that determines the distinction between right and wrong action, or good and bad
behavior. There is also a link that being moral should be determined by either human law or divine
law. The play Antigone , by Sophocles, shows the complexity of this certain concept of morality.
Antigone must determine whether she should defy King Creon s law in order to bury her brother,
Polynices, or reject her own religious beliefs in order to maintain in the King s good graces. At the
same time, King Creon also has to determine what is right and wrong; he must decide if he should
imprison and give the death sentence to Antigone for defying the law, or let her go free because of
divine law. The issues shown in Antigone further exemplify the complexity of which law is right and
if Antigone s and Creon s actions were justifiable. Should there solely be one person to create law? Or
should there be a consideration for people that prefer divine law? According to Katrin Beushausen,
Antigone was first staged around 442 BCE. It was a time of peace for Athens. Unfortunately, conflict
with Sparta would again break out ten years later in the Peloponnesian War. It is important to realize
that, at this point, democracy was not only an ambitious political system under which the life of the
Athenian citizens was organized according to the idea of equality, but also represented an ideological
instrument of power in Athens s pursuit of hegemony

begin with each of the letters that spell out the word America. I was unsure as to why this piece was
created the way it was but with further research on the piece I realized that Willie Cole created this art
piece while sitting in front of the television and writing down words said by the news reporters that
contain the first letters of A, M, E, R, I, C, A he also obtained the words by searching through the New
York Times. How Do You Spell America #6 is also one of the eight works that Billie Cole uses a
chalkboard for. The letters that contain the letter A that were popular in the news are Authorized, At,
Abortion, Ask, A, After, Ambushed, Annual, Asprin, Angered, African, An Activist, American, and
Able. The words that contain the letter M were Mood, Medical, Murderer s, Me, Multi, Midday,
Motorist, May, Motorist, Mother s, Melting Pot, Minister, Malaise, and Men. For E the words were
Enhancing, Emergency, Error, Eleven, Ethnic, Entire, Exits, Expenditure, Even, Excitedly, Embryos,
Empire, Espouses, Eases, and Everywhere. The words that make up the letter R are Remedy, Rooms,
Ravaged, Reasons, Rule, Remaining, Roadway, Report, Relieve, Ripped, Remain, Rejects, Rightwing,
Right, and Rate. For I the words are Improves, Inadequate, Infant, I, isn t, Inventory,

Anna Kingsley Essay
Anna Kingsley, a woman of strength and determination overcame many odds not expected of an
African American slave. She married a slave owner, owned land, and was once a slave herself. She
was well known in a free black community she helped establish.
Anna Madgigine Jai Kingsley was the wife of plantation owner Zephaniah Kingsley. She was the
daughter of a man of high status. Her father s sides were descendants of the well know Njaajan Njaay,
the creators of the Jolof Empire. Her father was killed in April 1806, the day she was captured. The
tyeddo warriors invaded her village and collected all the villagers to be sold as slaves. That day she
not only lost her freedom and her home, but also her dignity and her youth (Harvey, 41).

Johns River. She established a lovely house for her three children and herself. She also established
slave quarters fro the twelve slaves she brought with her. Spanish law viewed slaves as persons
created by god and endowed with a soul and a moral personality, the unfortunate victims of fate or war
(Schafer, 37). They had rights under the Spanish law that allowed them to get married, be freed for
meritorious acts and also to self purchase. They were allowed to work extra jobs to earn money to buy
their freedom. Once emancipated, the slaves could own property.
Anna became Catholic while living off the St. Johns. She later used the Catholic Church to protect her
rights and bind her family to powerful patrons, forming an extended kinship networks through
godparent ties (Schafer, 38). In 1812, the Patriot Rebellion would begin. The president of the United
States, James Madison, financed and instigated the Patriot Rebellion. American soldiers and sailors
crossed the East Florida s border and took the town of Fernandina. They went south and began to
attack outside St. Augustine. On the first day of the rebellion, Zephaniah was captured and held
hostage until he signed a pledge to support the rebels. Laurel Groves was taken over by the soldiers
and used as headquarters. Kingsley s house and retail store was the only building left. Anna boarded a
canoe and started paddling towards a ship named the Immutable. The commander, Jose Antonio
Moreno gave her his word that

Fur Trade Research Paper
By 1670 the fur trade had changed the village selection location to be closer to profitable furs . By
slightly moving the villages from the water ways and into the forest to be closer to the animals with
more profitable furs they could get more furs and their fore better trade goods.. Some tribes still stayed
close to the water ways because of the high value of beavers. Village population were anywhere from
100 to 500 people3at this time. Sault Ste Marie was still a center of trade and a place of refuge for the
Potawatomi . The Potawatomi had moved north to get away from the Iroquois. They would move
further west into modern day Wisconsin by Green Bay. The Potawatomi who lived near Green Bay
grew Indian corn, fished, gathered acorns, berries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the French had scared of the Iroquois many tribes started to return to their lands near Forts St.
Joseph. In 1691 for example there were Potawatomi living near Fort St. Joseph . The Potawatomi had
a strong relationship with the French and later the British. Because of their relation to the French they
trade with them a lot they even had a village on the opposites shore from Fort St. joseph. The
Potawatomi that has been scared of by the Iroquois by 1695 they stared to return back to western
Michigan . Which means the Potawatomi have almost gone full circle with leaving southwest
Michigan and returning 40 years later. Which shows that Potawatomi might not have been forced out
of the area so much by the Iroquois but maybe they have a 40 year migration period. That would allow
food to build back up in the areas they have villages. Since in the 1640 s 1650 s the Potawatomi were
living in southwest Michigan. By the 1670 s they were at Sault Ste. Marie and at the same time had
villages in the Green Bay area. The Potawatomi fought with the French in the French and Indian War.
After the French left and the British took over the Potawatomi did not trust them at first. Which can be
seen in their actions during Pontiac s

The package postulated a reduction in the federal income tax rates, increment in the child credits, augmented tax free retirement contributions and the educational savings account, as well as a gradual elimination of the US estate tax. The entire tax package was to cost the US Treasury over $1.3 trillion (excluding interest) up to 2010, the expected expiry time of the package. If the system was to continue in the later years, the Treasury could end up spending over $200 billion each year. According to Bartels (2005), The Bush move was supported by the ordinary citizens before the passage of the package. The people s support was not meant to imply the way they were impressed with the package as contributing to inequality, as they were mainly concerned with their own individual welfare. Notably, they wanted a system that could relieve them from paying massive or burdensome amounts of taxes. Though contrary to the perception of the legislation by the people and their personal preferences regarding it, 36% of the tax benefits were to accrue to the richest, who comprised only one percent of the American population. The share was almost equal to the one that was received by those in the bottom who constituted around 80% of the population (Hacker Pierson, p. 33). The policy provided ... • 3. Edm Songs Analysis Top 10 Best Electronic Dance Music Songs of June MusicSnake One of the newest types of music is EDM (Electronic Dance Music), which has become extremely popular in only a short period of time. Here are the top ten EDM songs of June that you should definitely listen to this summer: Number Ten: Break Free by Ariana Grande feat. Zedd This song is quite a different style for pop princess Ariana Grande, who is much more used to having traditional pop and some R B influences in her tracks. Her collaboration with Russian and German producer Zedd is arguably one of the best songs off of her sophomore album My Everything (2014) because it has stood the test of time and is still frequently played on the radio today. The chorus is incredibly invigorating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in my opinion, Gomez does a far better job than Grande with this transition. While Ariana Grande s voice may technically be far superior, Gomez s voice is definitely more suited for this particular style. This song falls under the more stereotypical, party themed EDM song, but is still a great track nonetheless. The fun and playful lyrics of this song include I want you to know that it s our time / You and me bleed the same light / I want you to know that I m all yours / You and me are the same force. Number Five: Cool by Alesso feat. Roy English Out of all of the songs that I discovered at Coachella, this is definitely my favorite. One of the reasons that this song is so incredible is because it contains so many different electronic melodies that greatly surprise the listener upon first hearing the track. In addition, this record is an excellent EDM song because the tempo varies greatly throughout, yet the listener is always engaged. Roy English sings lyrics such as Before you, love, I was lost / Drifting at sea / You were the beacon I followed home / You were the one who rescued me that add a romantic aspect to the song as well. • 4. Analysis Of The Movie Rampart The movie, Rampart, which is set in Los Angeles in 1999 and focused on the life of 24 year veteran Officer Dave Brown of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) as a part of the Rampart division. He is a man of his own breed who follows his own code of justice disregarding the solid line that stands between right and wrong. Brown is prone to using violence and intimidation to maintain his own idea that he is the unnoticed, underappreciated vigilante for the public. Although he has a hero complex, he does not seem to form intimate emotional connections, even though he was married to two women (both of which are sisters) and has a daughter by each woman. Neither of the women seemed to feel any emotional connection to Brown seeing as they all live together for the sake of the children, regardless of the obvious fact that his children do not seem to have a strong bond with him either. Years earlier Brown was involved in the death of a suspected serial rapist, which put the police department under stress as well as earned him the nickname Date Rape Dave . To further the spotlight on the LAPD and Officer Brown, a video was aired on the local television stations of Brown unnecessarily beating an individual who crashed into the back of his police vehicle. An assistant DA pressures and urges Brown to retire to try and prevent the police department from undergoing more fire and speculation from the public. • 5. Tragic Figure In Antigone In Sophocles Antigone, Kreon and Antigone encountered opposing obligations torn between their duty to their people and Thebes and their duty to their family and gods. While Kreon ultimately chose his people and Thebes, Antigone chose her family and gods. This conflict of obligation between the two caused the strife between the two and resulted in the demise of both characters. They could both represent tragic figures, but Kreon is the most tragic figure in the play. His adherence to his duty as king to his people and Thebes over his duty to his family resulted in the death of his family, thus he must live the rest of his life acknowledging the fact that the loss of his loved ones was caused by his pride and stubbornness. In Sophocles Antigone, Antigone chose her brother over her community s unjust laws imposed by Kreon. Her reason for such a defiance is best summed up by her response to Ismene when she reveals her plan to break the law. You be as you think best, but I shall bury him. I ll lie there, dear to him, with my dear friend, when I ve performed this crime of piety; for I must please those down below a longer time than those up here, since I shall lie there always (71 76). It is clear from this conversation between the two that Antigone feels an obligation to her family and brother to give him the proper burial. She makes it clear that her brother was very dear to her and she loved him deeply. Her deep love for him made her capable of defying her community s laws and face death. She would rather lie in death next to her brother than never see her brother given the proper customary burial that all in the community receive. This deep love is also shown to her sister as she is willing to deny that her sister knew anything about her plan in order to ensure her sister does not get harmed. ... • 13. Symbols and Symbolism in Young Goodman Brown Essay Within the Christian faith, there lies the belief that all mankind are born sinners and through their faith can seek redemption. This belief can be found in more detail within the Christian text known as the Bible. An example of this can be found in the Genesis chapter of the Bible which portrays that even the very first Humans ever to be created in God s image, named Adam and Eve, defied God despite his pre emptive warnings not too because of their natural tendency as humans to sin. Not only can one chose with their own will to disobey God but one s faith can be easily swayed by the evils of the world therefore sin can forever bind them in chains for eternity. Hawthorne uses this quote as an underlying statement that it wasn t just his wife that held him back from his rendezvous with the Devil, but also his Faith in God. Hawthorne meant for the reader to make the connection between Goodman s Wife, Faith and Goodman s faith in God for which both attempt to sway Goodman from following the path the Devil intends for him. Hawthorne in essence, portrayed Goodman as proof of the nature of evil in man by showing how easily even a young dedicated Puritan can easily be influenced by a complete stranger. This stranger was symbolically the Devil among men in this text. Hawthorne begins introducing the Devil immediately as trying to sway Goodman to follow him on a long journey. By leaving his wife, Faith to begin the journey, Goodman Brown was symbolically leaving his faith in God and entering a forsaken ground by following the Devil. The fact that Goodman Brown left with no regard for his wife Faith s warning, symbolized the lack of regard for his own faith in God and his fellow human race. This simple disregard that Goodman Brown showed was evidence of the easily persuaded ability of man to choose sin over good. The man that Goodman Brown encountered on his journey symbolized the devil in the text which strongly influenced him to just about give up his faith in God. We have depended upon each other to get the job done. We have stood beside on another for all these years. The Chuckwallas and Evolutionary Research Ever since Charles Darwin s first publication of On the Origin of Species in 1859, island habitats have been used by a number of scientists as the most efficient laboratories to observe the natural process of evolution taking place in modern day organisms. Several kilometers northeast of the Galapagos Islands, where Darwin famously performed his research, is a small group of islands in the Sea of Cortés, also known as the Gulf of California, between the Baja California peninsula and Mexico (see Figure 1 on page 18). Here many evolutionary biologists of the 20th and 21st century performed research on the insular organisms inhabiting these island habitats. One group of lizards in particular known by the common name chuckwallas has gained a lot of focus in evolutionary research. Chuckwallas is the name of organisms in the Sauromalus genus apart of the Iguanidae family. They are herbivorous lizards commonly found in the deserts of southwestern United States and Northern Mexico. Three species, in particular, are found on the islands off the cost of the mainland within the Sea of Cortés: Sauromalus obesus (= ater), Sauromalus varius, and Sauromalus hispidus (see Figure 2 on page 20). S. obesus is a common species found on the mainland as well as few islands, while S. varius are S. hispidus are endemic to specific islands in the Sea of Cortés: mainly San Esteban Island and Angel de la Guarda Island, respectively. Most of the songs we sang were about America, considering the fact that Independence Day was right around the corner. After a few songs and a few prayers Pastor Reyes got up to deliver his sermon, or message as he liked to put it. They were known as particular Baptists because of their belief that Christ died for a particular group of people the elect chosen out of gods mercy before the foundation of the world. They also believed that all people were born in total depravity worthy only of complete damnation by a just and righteous God. Yet God, in mercy, had elected some individuals to salvation unconditionally, a result of Gods sovereign choice, not because of any merit in the individual believer. All the elect would be saved through Gods irresistible grace and would persevere in Christian discipleship until the end. Therefore Christ death on the cross was particular to the elect and did not apply to the entire human race. Thus by the 1640s there were two distinguishable and diverse groups of Baptists in England. The Nazis committed a mass genocide of the Jewish people, and anyone else who they didn t see to be perfect . Hitler s goal was to reform Germany into a utopian, or perfect society. Similar is a Cambodian man called Pol Pot, who also committed a mass genocide in order to make the perfect society. He lead the communist group in Cambodia, the Khmer Rouge using the people s fear and easily given trust. While the public s opinion of Pol Pot and the goals and impacts of the movement is important to know about, his overall life is more important to know about because it shaped his character which would cause the Cambodian genocide. Pol Pot had a privileged way of growing up compared to other Cambodians, which led him to think that he was superior to others. He was able to quickly gain power due to the people s already bad feelings towards the previous government. With that power Pol Pot made a lot of choices that would forever impact Cambodia, such as a mass genocide. The Legal System To the legal system, the answer is clear: children have the requisite moral sense the ability to tell right from wrong by age 7 to 15, depending on which state they live in, and so can be held responsible for their actions. The Roman Catholic Church pegs it at the early end of that range: children reach the age of reason by the tender age of 7, a milestone marked by their first confession of sin and holy communion. Developmental psychologists and other researchers who study the question are not so sure. How old a child must be to both know in his mind and feel in his heart that lying, stealing, cheating, hurting let alone murdering are morally wrong is a matter of scientific debate. The reason is that empathy, the key emotion supporting a sense of right and wrong, emerges early and, it seems, naturally. Babies cry in response to the wails of other babies, and not just because it s a sound that upsets them, notes Carolyn Zahn Waxler of the National Institute of Mental Health. They cry more in response to human cries than to other aversive sounds. Somehow, there s a built in capacity to respond to the needs of others. Babies as young as 1 try to console others in distress. Toddlers offer their security blanket to a teary eyed parent or a favorite toy to a distraught sibling, as if understanding that the very object that brings them comfort will do the same to another. Although there seems to be some heritable component to empathy identical twins, who have identical genes, show more similarity in their response to others distress than fraternal twins do it can be twisted, warped or crushed like a fragile sprout. Empathy means, at heart, the ability to respond to another s distress in a way more appropriate to her situation than to your own. The development of empathy has a lot to do with how children experience emotions and how people respond to their emotional states, argues Berkowitz. It s not automatic. There are normally two ways to deal with this identity crisis. One way is to build landmark to display it character which always ignore the tradition of the city. An example is the Galaxy Soho designed Zaha Hadid, which as a giant out space invader intrude in a historical area of Beijing Hutong area without any considering the surrounding texture and culture. The other way is considering the tradition but in fact it just superficially make a direct reference to tradition forms. For example, on the street of Xi an the first capital city in China, there are a lots of buildings topped with a pitched roof on high rise to structure or Shanghai Museum which directly mimic a form of traditional cooking vessel. Those buildings always as kitsch for their superficial mimic. • 25. Analysis Of Ezekiel s The Book Of Ezekiel The Book of Ezekiel contains three different sections in which all three address a subject matter. There s almost nothing mentioned about Ezekiel in the book, his name is only mentioned twice surprisingly. Ezekiel was one of the more youthful men taken to Babylon in the first captivity, which happened in 597 B.C. In spite of the fact that Ezekiel existed amid a period when the Babylonians consistently crushed Israel his confidence stayed solid with one God, Yahweh. Not at all like Ezekiel, countless Israelites in the midst of this time had faith in more than just one god. Yahweh did not agree with this in light of the way that the Israelites went into a concurrence with him. This vow suggested that they couldn t continue admiring different icons, for on the off chance that they did Yahweh would radiate his fury upon them. Ezekiel understood this and he knew that this was the reason why they were being punished. Yahweh utilizes Ezekiel to transfer this message to his kin and reveal to them the discipline that they will need to uncover due to their wrongdoings. The book opens with a record of the vision that summoned Ezekiel to his prophetic calling. In his vision he saw a human like creature with four faces and four wings, and above these creatures was a dome that looked like a throne. On that throne was a human like figure that resembles the power of God. Ezekiel portrays his vision as a complex picture that symbolizes the magnificence of Yahweh and broadcasts Yahweh s ... Value Of Shame In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter Carissa Larriuz Mrs. Gordon English 11 29 April 2018 The Value of Shame In modern culture, it is often used as a great threat and punishment to be publicly shamed, multiple judges of the court even sentence this as a punishment. When the term is used loosely, it appears an inappropriate alternative to jail time, yet when speculated closely, public shame is in some ways worse than being put away in a cell. This can be argued due to the behavior spectators display with involvement in the situation firsthand. I believe that although in some cases public shame could be excessive and not fit the crime correctly, that public shaming is an effective and influential form of punishment for certain crimes. Primitively, According to the 8th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This concept has existed almost as long as humans themselves, right from the beginning of creation in the story of The Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were tempted into committing the first crime known to man and once committed they were punished publicly by being unclothed. This nakedness and sense of vulnerability was a form of public shame because their entity was exposed and they were provided this punishment as a reflection of self assessment. This similar idea is conveyed in Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel The Scarlet Letter. In the most basic sense, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale and Hester Prynne represent the primary characters in the biblical story of the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve. The first scaffold scene, where Hester stands alone with her baby in her arms, in terms of similarities between the story and the biblical one of Adam and Eve, plays on the biblical fact that Eve is said to have eaten the fruit first and then convinced Adam to eat it afterward. The community s belief that women are, by nature, sinful, is backed up by the interpretation of the biblical story and therefore shown in their acts of ridicule to Hester alone. • 34. Beethoven Piano Sonata Analysis Beethoven was one of the most influential composers of the late classical era. Of all the forms of music he composed one constant during Beethoven s career were his piano sonatas, which were composed during his early, middle, and late periods. These sonatas far exceeded those created by composers before and are considered to be the bridge between salon music and the concert hall for solo piano repertoire. The early sonatas follow the same traditions established by Mozart and Haydn and by the end of the late period are radically different from conventional form. The late sonatas, Op. 101, 106, 109, 110, and 111, are distinctly different from the other sonatas that came before in their style, forms, and composition. The pieces that I have chosen are the last five piano sonatas from Beethoven s late period. These pieces are reflective of the changes of Beethoven s compositional style as in his older age he began to stretch the limits of the classical style. The piano sonatas are reflective of what he was doing in all of his later works and are sort of condensed versions that still show the same ideas. Because piano sonatas were composed throughout his lifetime, they can be interpreted as a timeline of the changes in Beethoven s style of composing, particularly in the late sonatas. Beethoven had never been a very rapid composer and these five sonatas were the chief output of six years of work in the second to last decade of his life. • 38. Human Law Vs. Divine Law Human Law vs. Divine Law Morality is principles that determines the distinction between right and wrong action, or good and bad behavior. There is also a link that being moral should be determined by either human law or divine law. The play Antigone , by Sophocles, shows the complexity of this certain concept of morality. Antigone must determine whether she should defy King Creon s law in order to bury her brother, Polynices, or reject her own religious beliefs in order to maintain in the King s good graces. At the same time, King Creon also has to determine what is right and wrong; he must decide if he should imprison and give the death sentence to Antigone for defying the law, or let her go free because of divine law. The issues shown in Antigone further exemplify the complexity of which law is right and if Antigone s and Creon s actions were justifiable. Should there solely be one person to create law? Or should there be a consideration for people that prefer divine law? According to Katrin Beushausen, Antigone was first staged around 442 BCE. It was a time of peace for Athens. Unfortunately, conflict with Sparta would again break out ten years later in the Peloponnesian War. It is important to realize that, at this point, democracy was not only an ambitious political system under which the life of the Athenian citizens was organized according to the idea of equality, but also represented an ideological instrument of power in Athens s pursuit of hegemony ...
