The Lady s Dressing Room
In Jonathan Swift s poem, The Lady s Dressing Room, the epistemology of experience is mostly
endorsed. In Lady Mary Wortley Montagu s response poem to Swift, The Reasons that Induced
Dr. S[wift] to Write a Poem Called the Lady s Dressing Room, the epistemology of experience is
critiqued. The endorsement and critique is seen in the aesthetics of the poem (rhyme scheme,
alliteration, and diction), how knowledge is presented or acquired, and how knowledge is used.
Jonathan Swift s poem endorses knowledge through experience by taking Strephon into the female
space in order to discover and report his experience in the female dressing room to his audience.
Aesthetically, the rhyme scheme of the poem is AABB, with some of the lines in slant rhyme....

However, the nursery rhyme feelings is still conveyed, which gives off an air of learning. Wortley
Montagu, in creating her pre history, creates a story that conveys the observation in an omniscient
narrator. Wortley Montagu describes the doctor in a way that she is looking in on the situation and
observing. As the poem continues, wit is clearly critiqued. Even though the doctor is learned, his
prestige or knowledge does not allow him to enter into the female space. For example, Wortley
Montagu writes that doctor had joked and punned, and swore and writ/ tried all his gallantry and
Wit/...Could not move this dull hearted Creature (9 14). The doctor only receives access to the
female space through the maid. Even though the doctor is intelligent, the prostitute is able to outwit
the doctor by locking the money up. Wortley Montagu describes the situation best, With Learning
Mad, with wisdom blind (36). Even within Wortley Montagu is a strong critique of the learning
through observation that Swift praises. Wortley Montagu describes Swift s experience and
knowledge as pointless (46). Wortley Montagu shares the certain knowledge is unnecessary. She
also critiques that the reason that knowledge is being acquired needs to be examined as well to
deem the knowledge valuable. Wortley Montagu is critical of the knowledge that is being produced
in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. She calls to question the necessity of the information
that Swift writes about. She asks the reader what is the knowledge s

Living Machines, Constructed Wetlands and Sustainable Water Resources
Thesis: Conventional waste treatment plants, Living Machines and constructed wetlands can all be

human race with a sustainable future.
Introduction Our liquid planet glows like a soft blue sapphire in the hard edged darkness of
space. There is nothing else like it in the solar system. It is because of water (Miller 311).

Design and Funciton of Treatment Systems
Conventional Sewage Treatment.
Conventional Sewage Treatment plants are the most common system for wastewater treatment in
the United States. These systems are found in all urban communities but only in a few rural
communities. This complex system is responsible for processing of the waste of the majority of the
people in the United States yet few of them understand the scientific principles involved with
treatment. In addition many people are even unaware of where their wastewater goes after it has
been flushed down the toilet or disappear through the bath tub drain. I will attempt to describe the
biological, chemical and physical process involved with the treatment of wastewater through the
use of conventional sewage treatment.
The first step involved with wastewater treatment is the transport of the wastes from houses and
industry to the treatment plant. This is done through a complex matrix of pipes and lift stations. All
sewage goes to the treatment plant using the laws of gravity. Since the flow of gravity requires the
sewage to head continually

Apocalypse Now Symbolism Essay
According to Tommy Douglas, Man can now fly in the air like a bird, swim under the ocean like
a fish, he can burrow into the ground like a mole. Now if only he could walk the earth like a
man, this would be paradise. The use of birds have been used as different symbols in literature
has been prevalent during our readings, some literature I would like to emphasis on is the film
Apocalypse Now directed by Francis Ford Coppola, The Birds directed by Alfred Hitchcock, Heart
of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, The Birds Daphne du Maurier, the musical art work of Charlie
Parker Ornithology.
The use of birds has been present to most of these books and film adaptations, but one film that had
a lot bird like symbols was the film Apocalypse Now. What is the meaning behind this? Well, the
reason why I think they would use helicopters in the film is that it shows how the technologically
advance, the Americans were compared to the savages . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this movie it involves a lot of symbolism that ranges from money to greed. One part of the
movie that shows a great example of this is when Melanie Daniels (portrayed by Tippi Hedren)
and Mitch Brenner (portrayed by Rod Taylor) was in the Davidson s pet store. In the pet store
when both Melanie and Mitch were having a conversation, Mitch asked if it was horrible having
all the birds in their cages. What is the meaning of the cage in The Birds? Well, the film is trying
to suggest that people can be imprisoned by the exclusive nature of love. For example, Melanie
mentioned in the conversation that she lives in a gilded cage. Even though she s an heiress, it
can be hard to leave the life one inherits. Birds are not the only species caged on their well being.
Humans are like a caged animal as well, because we are regimented on when it is time to eat,
sleep, or work. In that scene it was not the birds who are cage, but it was really the human

The Pros And Cons Of Conscription In The Military
Throughout human history, war has permeated the lives of billions of people. From early conflicts
such as conquests to control vast swaths of land by Alexander the Great and Cyrus the Great to
modern, global wars such as the World Wars, the concept of war has been at the forefront of
humanity s mind for centuries. However, in recent years, opposition to war and lack of
participation in the military has become a common theme in many countries, including the United
States. To help alleviate the troubles caused by lack of participation, the United States instituted a
law allowing for the conscription of its citizens. Conscription, which can also be referred to as a
draft, is defined as the compulsory drafting of citizens into military service (What). The Draft has
been utilized throughout US History in a couple of prominent wars; however, opposition has
manifested against the Vietnam War and the draft, rightfully stemming from ethical opposition to
the war and hatred for what the war and the draft stood for. The idea of conscription has been in the
American eye throughout the entire history of the country. The idea of the registration of all men
in America to be in the military was first introduced by George Washington. After witnessing the
difficulties with creating a well trained militia during the Revolutionary war, Washington thought it
was best to have all men join the military to more effectively defend the country. However,
Congress did not pass any legislation that

The Evolution of Graphic Design
When graphic design began, it was much simpler than it is today. Most people consider graphic
design to be done only on computers and fancy operating systems, when in fact graphic design in
much more complex than that. Graphic design has its roots in early caveman drawings using stone,
organic paints and charcoal. Since these early humans had no to little verbal communication, logic
dictates that they would have to communicate instead with a plethora of symbols and graphic
representations of ideas. As time progressed, the methods of visual communication, as well as
verbal communication, evolved. Materials in graphic designbecame more refined such as digital or
traditional printing. Some of the milestones in graphic design were the invention of printing
presses, text based design such as Typography, molds, and computers. As new technology made
the expression and sharing of art possible, those who chose to create art formed new styles and
ideas that also evolved.
Artistic molds were one of the first revolutionary things to come about in graphic design. The
molds allowed for the mass production of certain objects, letters, or shapes that would otherwise
take several hours to even days to be created. Once the molds were created, they could then be
used to replicate their shape by filing them with clay, stone, cement, ink and other artistic materials.
The molds can be made in varying shapes and sizes, allowing for artists to create precise works
from different templates. Molds

Reality Of Cinem A Subjective Perspective

Reality in Cinema: A Subjective Perspective
Ever since the inception of cinema, questions about film s ability to capture or distort true reality
have plagued the medium. It is a question which satisfies most academic types: it involves
existential questioning of reality , film theory (which, in itself, just sounds intelligent), and esoteric
mostly esoteric film knowledge and jargon. Though it s a question that has been long dominated
by pretension and esotericism, it s a very valid one that is important to investigate. Reality
distortion through film is particularly salient because it affects almost all who watch movies,
which is a lot of people. During my research, I ve come to a conclusion: Even though an objective
reality in cinema doesn t exist, there are types of representations of reality that can have seriously
damaging implications. These are representations of the world which are intended to be impetuses
for the harm of others. Films like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Battleship Potemkin showcase
this potential to dictate and distort reality.
First, in order to decide whether reality distortion through film has any immediate implications, we
must establish that it is impossible to capture an objective reality through film. Though this is not
an essay that is exactly concerned with philosophical posturing, a bit of existentialist thought is
required when asking the question of whether or

country. The only option this war has left for the innocent is to flee to the neighboring countries
(BBC).With that being said women and children have risked their lives in dangerous attempts to

And Death Shall Have No Dominion, By Dylan Thomas
Dominion of Death
For years and years; death was something that people saw as the only gateway to what they
believed to be the afterlife or heaven. Believing that god would grant them access to heaven if
they were to live holy and sinless lives. However towards the beginning of the 20th century this
belief started to weave towards the belief that the afterlife would be the eternal end of ones life
on physical earth, with some even believing that there wouldn t be an afterlife. This all leaded to
people overall living happier and longer lives. This all inspired a type of writing style called
modernism; to be more specific Neo romanticism. One of the most famous writers of this genre was
Dylan Thomas who famously wrote And Death Shall Have No Dominion. This poem contains the
characteristics of the beliefs of Neo Romanticism by showing that even though death must happen,
it mustn t be something that one just lets stroll by and take them away. Because the belief is that
death should be avoided in order to live the longest, fullest, and happiest life possible.
The whole concept of living an alien life in the 19th century terms began to be known as
Modernism. It drove to desire to change traditional ways of representations and to express the new
ways of the era. In the case of the late 1800s old beliefs such as religion, treatment of monarchy,
and social norms began to be questioned and challenged. This challenging of society started in the
late 1800s all the way through the

Philosophical Optimism In Voltaire s Candide
The novella, Candide, by Voltaire, was published in 1759 during the enlightenment period. Voltaire
wrote this book to satirize the concept of philosophical optimism, or the belief that everything is
always for the best. Throughout the book, the main character, Candide, and various other
characters with differing views on life, travel around the world overcoming many obstacles for the
sole purpose of Candidefinding the woman he loved, Cunegonde. Voltaires characterization of
several main figures in the book demonstrates a new concept: the idea that philosophical optimism
leads to a lack of compassion. In the novella, Candide, Voltaire introduces the idea that philosophical
optimism leads to a lack of compassion through the characterization... Show more content on

Pangloss possesses a certain amount of optimism that blinds him from all realistic thought.
Pangloss believes that everything is for the best; this ideal leads to other unrealistic concepts,
such as the idea that certain situations in this world were predetermined, and the only reason
anything exists is for another specific, pre planned thing to occur; whatever horrible thing
happens was meant to happen all along, and is, of course, for the best. For example, when
Pangloss and Candide travel to Lisbon, they are hit with a terrible storm. After one of the sailors
on the ship is thrown out and killed, Pangloss appears largely unfazed, Voltaire describes the
situation, He tried to throw himself after him into the sea; he was prevented by the philosopher
Pangloss, who proved to him that the Lisbon roads had been expressly created for the Anabaptist
to be drowned in them (14). This way of thinking presents itself as incompassion because
Pangloss was showing little regard for people facing great trouble, due to his belief that their
problems are essential to other predestined events to occur. Pangloss s absurd set of values appear
again when he and Candide do reach Lisbon. There happens to be an earthquake around the time of
their arrival and many people are killed. When Candide is

Surrogate Motherhood Is Considered The Most Controversial...
Surrogate motherhood is considered the most controversial form of medically assisted
conception. Surrogacy is defined as an arrangement by which a woman gives birth to a baby on
behalf of a woman who is incapable of conceiving babies herself or is infertile. The issue of
surrogacy has been running for almost three decades. Elizabeth Cane was the first woman in the
United States to legally become a surrogate mother in 1980 (Chittom and Wagner). Surrogate births
are illegal in many countries, including some states in the United States. For example, it is illegal in
Michigan, Washington, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and New York, whereas it legal in California,
Oregon, Texas, and Arkansas (Chittom and Wagner). According to the Organization of Parents
Through Surrogacy(OPTS), about 22,000 babies have been born from surrogate mothers in the
United States since surrogacy became legal in the 1970s (Chittom and Wagner).
There are two types of surrogacy: traditional surrogacy and gestational surrogacy. In traditional
surrogacy, the surrogate mother is impregnated using the sperm of the intended father by a
procedure called donor insemination. In this case, the surrogate mother and the intended father are
genetically related to the baby. In gestational surrogacy, a procedure called in vitro fertilization is
used to impregnate the surrogate mother using a couple s fertilized ovum (Chittom and Wagner).
There are two types of surrogacy arrangements: altruistic and commercial. In

Motor Vehicle Accidents In The United States
Cars are the primary means of transportation in the United States. Teenagers often live as far as 30
minutes driving distance from their high school and job, making it impractical not to use an
automobile. With that being said, motor vehicle accidents were the number one cause of death
amongst young drivers in the United States in 2013. Nationally, 963,000 teen drivers were
involved in police reported motor vehicle crashes in 2013, which resulted in 383,000 injuries and
2,865 deaths (Carney). Many components, such as passengers, mobile devices, lack of experience,
and miscellaneous distractions, contribute to this alarming statistic. In response to this issue,
legislation has been passed in an attempt to halt the use of cell phones while operating a vehicle;
however, not much has been done to address all the other issues plaguing teenagers on... Show more

One feasible solution to reduce the amount of teenage motor vehicle accidents is to provide a way
for youth to gain life like experience driving with various, unexpected scenarios. One of the two
biggest causes of accidents among adolescents is speeding, which exacerbates swerves and does
not allow for enough reaction time. Teens are more likely than older drivers to speed and allow
shorter headways (the distance from the front of one vehicle to the front of the next) (Singer.)
Creating a simulation machine, much resembling a race car driving video game/chair found in
many arcades, complete with speed limits and road signs, would help to equip young drivers for
the dangers that may arise on real roads. The simulation could be programmed to come up with
different obstacles that would require the user to react in whatever way he or she sees fit. These
obstacles could be life threatening if presented on a physical road, which is why a simulator has
such a high value; for instance, an eighteen wheeler barreling at a car in

Paris Bordone During The Italian Renaissance
During the Italian Renaissance, societal changes allowed for the introduction of high class pieces of
artwork into the elite community. Artists such as Michelangelo, and Botticelli flourished during
this era, creating masterpieces that continue to relevant in this day, and age. One such painter, Paris
Bordone played a very influential role in the renaissanceand produced numerous works such as
Annunciation, the Baptism of Christ, Bathsheba Bathing, with an African Servant, Chess Player,
and A Portrait of a Lady. Born on July 5th, 1500, Bordone lived in Treviso before moving to Venice
in his late adolescence. He applied for a brief apprenticeship with Renaissance giant Titian, and
branched out as a painter by the 1520 s. There he began his career painting biblical portraits in Italy.
Somewhere between 1534 1535, Bordone first gained recognition as an maestro for painting a
canvas of the The Fisherman Presenting the Ring to Doge Gradenigo. This boosted his career,
but also showcased his limitations as his usage of perspective in his painting created dwarfed
backgrounds. However, this didn t detract his fame as he became a famous name in Venetian
cultural achievement. Bordone use of Mannerism lead to his crowning achievement, the Portrait
of Giovanni Jacopo Caraglio in 1552. This piece of art embodies the four ideals of the Renaissance,
as well as providing a critic of society. The Portrait of Giovanni Jacopo Caraglio was fabricated for

Atonement Research Paper
Worship and sin cannot coexist. For example, before the fall, Adam and Eve did not need to
acquire atonement to worship God, but instead lived in the Garden of Eden with Him. The Temple
and Tabernacle were the places where man encountered God, so they served as vital religious
components of Judaism. In addition to atonement, tabernacleand temple, further elements of Old
Testamentworship include scripture, singing, and covenant renewal/remembrance. This essay will
go over Old Testament worship practices and the significance of these practices. Atonement is the
physical ritual conveying a sentiment of repentance. In the Old Testament, atonement was the
method used in order to attain purity and restore relationship with God and the community of
believers through a sacrificial statement. We see this demonstrated in time of the creation and fall,
the patriarchs, the exodus/law/conquest, the kings, and the post exile (Lecture 1, 2016). There are
numerous types of sacrifices that can be found in Leviticus: burnt offering (1:3 17), associated
cereal offerings (2:1 16), peace offerings (3:1 17), sin offering (4:1 5:13) and guilt offering (5:14
6:7) (Peterson, 1993, p.38). The sacrificial system in the Old Testament to atone for unintentionally
and intentionally committed sins and social failures that caused Israelitesto become unclean so that

Summary Of Little Aster, By Gottfried Benn
Reflect on ways in which this poem expresses and develops aspects of the trajectory we have been
following in art and literature this semester.
Over the course of the semester, a trend that has certainly stuck out to me is that different art
movements arise in reaction to the movement of the time. Romanticism arose in response to Neo
Classicalism. Realism reacted against what was seen as excessive idealization and de emphasis of
the real by the Romantics. Two groups arose in reaction to Realism: the Impressionists, who further
developed the idea of conveying the real, and the Symbolists, who harken back to Romanticism s
focus on emotions and subjectivity. Additionally, the Symbolists argued that all objects contained
meaning within them, and Symbolist writers such as Baudelaire and Mallarme aimed to unlock
these meanings in their works. Aestheticism reacted against the Symbolist idea that all objects
contain meaning by creating art for art s sake. To the Aestheticists, there was no such thing as
underlying meaning beneath an object: there was only surface.
In close reading Little Aster, we may catch a glimpse of Gottfried Benn illustrating this trajectory
literature progressed toward from Romanticism to Expressionism and the cusp of Modernism.
Indeed, Benn takes advantage of literary techniques and sentimentalities to attack the Aestheticist
idea that an object is just an object, while also distancing himself from Romanticism s idealization
of Nature. In other words,

The Problem Of Wrestling Practice
I never was the person that got along with others, for some unknown reason everyone hated me.
The only problem with this is that they didn t even try to hide how they feel. They always made
me try to feel like I was worthless. They made me feel like no one loved and that no one would
ever love me.The only place I could go without worrying about what anyone said was on the mat. I
started at a young age and so did the bullying, but they never happened at the same time. I thought
that wrestlingpractice was the only safe place for me to be. Then they started to merge and i no

Argumentative Essay On Dnr
I support liberty and I support less government, but i guess my line of thinking on this is a little
bit different. I know that this would be the government tell you what you can and cannot do,
which as you could probably guess I despise as well, but I kind of see this as taking power away
from the bureaucratic DNR. This is something the people and for the people to decide, not
letting the DNR decide what is good for our deer herd, which historically we know is not the
greatest. I have family and friends all over the state that wish Wisconsin would implement an
antler restriction. I recently did a small policy analysis on this topic and regardless of how poorly
the DNR has handled the issuing of doe tags, an antler restriction may save the herd. Eventually,
there would be more bucks and bigger bucks in the state, meaning more breading. As a result a rise
in deer numbers. I do think that if this ever did happen it should wait until the doe... Show more

Unfortunately, as much as I d love to believe that landowners could work together to establish a
QDM program, it just won t happen. A state that could be a model for this is Arkansas. In the late
2000s, Arkansas implemented an antler restriction throughout the state and for the past three years
there harvest numbers have been very consistent. It is viewed positively in the state. Georgia,
Mississippi, and Alabama also have statewide antler restrictions and their herds are now thriving.
Looking at this from an economic standpoint, an antler restriction may increase the number of
hunters in the state again. In the year 2000, nearly 700,000 hunters bought deer gun licenses. Last
year, just over 600,000 people purchased licenses. The number of hunters in this state are declining
big time. This means less money for the DNR and businesses that usually profit from hunting
equipment and ammo sales. People are hunting less because there are no deer and they never see
any nice bucks, and this may be a step in the

Antiepileptic activity and Pharmacognostical study of leaves of Sphaeranthus indicus Linn.
Introduction
Epilepsy is one of the most common and well known serious neurological condition. The current
treatment of epilepsy is done with modern AEDs which is associated with side effects , dose related
and chronic toxicity, and even, approximately 30% of the patients continue to have seizures with
these current therapies and medicines. Because of this , natural products obtained from traditional
remedies can be considered as an alternative source for the AEDs with novel structures and shows
better safety and efficacy parameters. It is assumed that more than half of the medicinally active
pharmaceutical drugs are from natural products or either derivatives of natural products. The
presently available AEDs (Antiepileptic drugs )i.e., phenobarbitone, benzodiazepine, sodium
valproate and ethosuximide are associated with a number of short comings, dose related
neurotoxicity and other side effects. Though AED therapy is meant for a long duration usage ,
because of this , there is a risk of drug interactions and this problem is further compounded by the
high protein bindings for some drugs and potential for inducing hepatic enzymes. These limitations
with the conventional AEDs highlighted the need for developing newer agents for epilepsies.
Spaheranthus indicus Linn. is commonly known as Mundi and East Indian globe thistle , belongs

At Fault Character Review Essay
A Woman Ahead of Her Time The Land of the Free, the Home of the Brave ; these are the words
that since 1814 have been used to describe the spirit of the country that we call America. For
many, this country symbolizes a history of just that; bravery and freedom. But what does it mean
to be an American? Does it simply mean that a person is born in to the country, or does it mean
that they empower the character traits used to describe the country itself? When describing
America and what it is to be or behave as an American, there are many traits that are often used
such as brave, hardworking, strong, having the ability to overcome obstacles, a belief in equality
and freedom for all, being a groundbreaker, and having a strong, direct... Show more content on

Therese had not reached the age of thirty five without learning that life presents many
insurmountable obstacles which must be accepted, whether with the callousness of philosophy, the
revolt of weakness or the dignity of self respect. (Chopin) Although the death of her husband was
very hard on her, and at times she found herself wishing that she had died alongside him, she was
forced to stand up, be strong, and assume the role that her late husband had played. She did not ask
anyone for help, instead she did what was called upon her. She was strong and she refused to break
under the extremely large emotional burden and responsibility that had been placed upon her.
Having independence and pride in oneself and the things that they believe in are traditionally
American traits that Therese also has within herself. Therese possessed an independence of thought
exceptional enough when considered in relation to her life and its surrounding conditions. (Chopin)
As a woman who had taken on many challenges and responsibilities, she carried herself with
pride and did not allow the death of her husband or the burden that had come of it distract her
from who she was and what she had to do. Therese was an independent woman who had no qualms

Newbery Honor book in 1998. Ella enchanted, the Disney movie version was released in 2004.
Anne Hathaway played the role of Ella and it was directed by Tommy O Haver. The story talks
about a girl named Ella who is cursed at birth by a fairy named Lucinda. Lucinda cursed Ella

obedience would be a gift, not thinking that this may affect her life and give people around her
the chance to take advantage of her. Olive and Hattie are Ella s stepsisters. Hattie is the one who
was able to discover Ella s curse. In the book, Hattie enjoyed commanding Ella. Ella gave Hattie
her precious necklace afterwards, Hattie commanded Ella to not be friends with Areida.
Throughout the book and the movie, Hattie and Olive are always jealous of Ella s beauty and of
how well mannered she is and yet they wanted to be friends with Ella. The reader will think how
Hattie and Olive could be Ella s friends after taking advantage of her. In the book, Hattie said
Ella, you should give it to me. It would be a token of our friendship. (37). Prince Charmont

Heat Is The Transfer Of Thermal Energy Between...
Heat is the transfer of thermal energy between substances. Thermal energy is the kinetic energy of
moving particles of matter. If you go camping, you usually build a fire to sit around at night. Have
you ever wondered why a marshmallow cooks without touching the flame, why the smoke rises, or
why water in a pan boils? Heatcan move from one object to another in three different ways:
conduction, convection and radiation.
Some sources of heat may include the following: the sun, friction, and the earth. Life on earth
depends on the sun. The sun provides heat/light for the entire solar system. A person could generate
a fire by rubbing two sticks together. The Earth contains much heat seep inside. Some of the heat
escapes to the surface ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thermal energy radiates through air from a fire causing the fire s energy to transfer to the
marshmallow.
As stated before, thermal conductor occurs when particles of warmer matter bump into particles
of cooler matter and transfer some of their thermal energy to the cooler particles. Conduction is
usually faster in certain solids and liquids than in gases. Returning to the example of a camp
fire; what happens if you use an old metal hangar to roast hot dogs? As the hot dogs cooks, the
fire heats the end of the hanger. If we leave the hanger in the fire long enough, eventually the end
we are holding will become too hot for us to handle. The flames to the metal were transferred by
the heat, and then from molecule to molecule in the hanger. Now, what would have happened if
you had chosen a stick to roast your hot dog? Though the stick may have caught fire, it would not
have conducted the heat to your hand. This is because wood is a very poor heat conductor.
Heat insulators are materials that do not let heat move through them easily. They do not conduct
heat well. Plastic, wood and some fabrics are good thermal insulators. Thermal insulators are good
at keeping heat out and keeping heat in. A winter scarf is a good example of a thermal insulator. It
stops the heat from your body escaping into the cold air.
Temperature is defined as the average kinetic energy of the particles of matter. When

But more important question is whether this really led to better quality and transparency of
accounting. 4.Conclusion Main focus of IASB for introducing new standard for business
combinations was that financial statements of companies became more realistic and to represent
real economic position and value of a company. Therefore restriction to acquisition method as the
only option for business combination is the advantage of new standard since using this method,
companies do not have a choice whether to recognize goodwill arising from business
combinations. Amortization was changed with impairment because amortization of goodwill can
lead to arbitrary accounting according to IASB (Shinhan Financial Group n.d., p. 4). Problem
arising is that impairment test and determination of recoverable amount require an active market
with homogenies assets and available prices which is hard to determine as far as intangibles are
concerned. Consequently, this leads to more subjective decisions regarding measurement and
leaves a lot of space for management impact on goodwill. Therefore aim of IASB for transparency
and full fair value model is not realized. Although IASB and FASB are making a lot of efforts,
universally accepted treatment of goodwill still does not exist. Therefore this will remain
controversial topic among economists until creators of financial standards find better solution for
goodwill accounting. Reference

All Races And Skin Colors
Life education would be filled with students who are diverse in physical appearance first and
foremost. It would be a place that would teach children that they could be independent in all
aspects of life. It would be a place where children always feel safe and welcome. It would not be
an institution solely used to emphasize discipline and obedience skills that factory owners wanted
in their workers in the 1800 s. Children would be free to question anything they like in an
appropriate, respectful and timely manner. Students would be of all races and skin colors. Complete
integration of all students would be the norm. This would be strongly implemented for the children
during their first years in this learning environment. The sooner they are exposed to other human
beings of different features their age the better. Racism would not stand the chance of poisoning the
young minds of children. That nuisance would be nipped in the bud right away to eliminate the
misery that comes with racism. Racism lead to oppression and oppression in educationwill always
put a strangle hold on the growth of any society. It distracts people and children from more
important things.

possible. True skills would be learned in this environment after the age of 10. Skills ranging from

Vioxx and Merck Co. Essay
Vioxx/Merck
Summary
The painkiller Vioxx was introduced in 1999 by Merck amp; Co. It has been used by over 20
million Americans since it was put on the market. Vioxx remained on the market for approximately
five years without adequate warnings about its risks. In September of 2004, Merck took Vioxx off
the market after a study revealed that it doubled the risk of heart attack or stroke for patients that
used it for more than 18 months. Although Merck claimed that they had no idea of these possibly
lethal side effects, some internal documents imply that they had been aware of the problem for
years and had not made moves to change it. Over 300 lawsuits have been filed against Merck, and
it is expected that thousands more will arise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without their votes, the committee would have voted that Vioxx should not return to the market.
Response
Personally, I was shocked by the Merck/Vioxx situation. I could not believe that something that
was basically proven to cause heart attacks and strokes was permitted to be put on the market in
the first place, and the fact that it may be brought back is horrible. I believe that things are being
handled terribly. Since so many of the members of the committee are financially connected with
Merck amp; Co., they would obviously vote in a way that would support the company, and in turn,
benefit themselves. It seems that the value of the well being of the patients that use this medication
is being neglected while the Merck and its associates simply look out for themselves.
I do not believe that Vioxx should be put back on the market. For one thing, it has already become
clear how detrimental its side effects can be. Another reason is that allowing this drug to be put back
on the market will only discourage efforts made to create drugs that will be just as effective but
without the negative side effects. I also disagree with the statement made by the committee, which
basically said that it was acceptable to disburse this drug as long as it had a warning and that a
person should be able to

The methodology in this mission involved the curation of a spacecraft unlike its predecessors.
The spacecraft used to carry out this mission is very unique because the craft itself and its tools
for data collection are powered by solar panels as appose to the typical power system involving

Effective approach to organizational development An important approach in this situation is to

Histamine is in your body to protect it and keep it safe from potential poisons. At the right level,

However, if you have a condition called histamine intolerance, your body gives you no choice but to

What are the other major changes with Donald Trump s executive plan on removing
Obamacare? According to the company Motely Fool , With a spotless cancelation taking a
gander right now, Congressional Republicans may swing to a procedure known as compromise,
which would enable them to annul the segments of Obamacare that effect the government
spending plan. All together for a compromise bill to pass the Senate, a lion s share of 51 votes is
all that would be required, and Republicans voting along partisan loyalties can achieve this
aggregate. Compromise would wipe out Obamacare s endowments, and the Common Duty
Installment, which would positively affect how a huge number of Americans set up their

everyone must follow, regardless of the possibility that it is by all accounts living on re

not to buy medical coverage ought to pay the SRP, unless they re excluded. Then again, without
line 61 filled in, the IRS has no certification that the citizen paid the SRP or was even

Notwithstanding, the IRS has likewise already said that it wouldn t embellish compensation or

almost unimaginable for the IRS to gather the SRP or to solidly confirm a people s medical

slavery and its sectional issues
DBQ # 6 Slavery and Sectional Attitudes
One effect on the issue was that the economy in the south was fueled by cultivation of staple
crops that required slaves for labor. In the South slavery wasn t thought as an evil as in the North
because to the Southerners defense the slaves in their opinion were treaty in contrast to workers in
England and peasants that were Irish, also the end of slave trade brought higher value to the slaves
causing their owners to be less harsh because they were more valuable. Although slavery fueled the
economy in the South it was not the same in the North therefore there was no complete dire need
for slavery, and although the slaves probably weren t treated as bad as the north had thought they

Owners or bounty hunters that tore up their papers gave the people no proof. Therefore they were
able to go to Free states and bring back a free African American and claim them as slaves.
Document G, is a catechism for slaves, speaking on how slaves should behave, using God. This
catechism made sure that slaves knew that they should be obedient and work for Gods will. It
made it as though God gave them the privilege of having a master or mistress and that all this
was in the bible. Document H, is a poster of Uncle Tom s Cabin. Uncle Tom s Cabin and the slave
laws that allowed bounty hunters to hunt slaves in the north along with criminalizing those that hid
or support slaves in any manner brought the issue of slavery to a far greater public in the north.
This exposure to the slave issue and the many instances of violence greatly angered the northern
population. Those that did not care about slavery did care about armed gangs marauding over the
country side. Some instances became very bloody. There was an instance in which a town refused
to release a freed slave in to the hands of bounty hunters and federal Marshall had to be brought in
to escort the now free slave and the bounty hunters back south. There were bounty hunters that were
killed by anger mobs and people that were beaten, tortured, and killed by bounty hunters. They were
bounty hunters that killed other bounty hunters to make off with their captured

John Ford Impact On Westerns
He was the academy winning Western legend, recognized as one of the best filmmakers of all
time, his name was John Ford. He started out his career in film in July 1914 as an assistant,
labourman and actor for his brother Francis Ford. It was not until 1917 where he made his debut
as a director with the lost film, The Tornado and ended his career in the early 1970s with his last
film Chesty: A Tribute to a Legend. During his early years, he was making silent films where
Westerns were very popular during the time. When the introduction of sound came and the birth
of Talkies came, however, the genre started losing its popularity. Yet, that did not stop the director
from working on the genre, eventually to the point where he is now credited today as the man
who played a huge role in bringing the westerns back to popularity. So, in this video essay, I will
be talking about John Fords take on Westerns and how he revolutionized the genre.
Now, what made him so unique in his take was his use of the scenery to enhance how the story is
being told and how the characters were presented and developed in the movies.
As I have said, one of his trademark characteristics was his use of scenery. John Ford used the
environment to describe his characters and the situations they were in instead of ... Show more

He was what many people called a poet who was able to aesthetically display the American
environment, especially those in the Old West. He was reported to have been able to visualize the
scene in his head without the need for storyboards or graphical outlines. Furthermore, he added
layers to his characters that added the gray areas in morality, taking one step further from just black
and white characters. In conclusion, he was influential for his efforts in the revival of the western
genre and his ability to make visually appealing scenes for the audience that would carry on the
style in future westerns, showing his footprint in filming

Genetically Engineered Food Essays
Genetically engineered goods are a huge controversy in the United States. There has been a lot of
conflict between different groups about whether or not genetically engineered foods should be so
widely sold or at least not labeled. There are many people on both sides of the argument that have
given great insight as to what genetically engineered foods can do for/to people. Those that are in
favor of genetically modified foodsay that it allows for farmers to have a less risky harvest and
this can then lead to producing more food for a higher population. To some people, this sounds like
a good benefit to genetically modified foods. Others, however, have found that these facts simply
don t help them in the long run. Large portions of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mice that were fed Roundup Ready Soy had problems with their liver cells. They said that they
found the mice had oddly shaped nucleoli and an abnormal amount of nuclear pores. This was
said to have changed their gene expression or the process at which information from a gene is
used in the synthesis of a functional gene product. Scientists said that this could have increased
the metabolism of the mice and it could have possibly been caused because of a toxin from the
food that had built up in its system (65 Health Risks of GM Foods).
Another case was one that was experimented on mice with, once again Roundup Ready Soy,
showed another result occurring from the subjects ingesting genetically altered food. The
experiment consisted of female mice being fed the altered soy before conception, during birth, and
after birth. The mortality rate of the mice was around 55%, which was considerably higher than the
mice not fed the genetically modified soy. They saw that the newborn mice from the altered soy
mothers were considerably smaller than the regular soy mothers. The scientists also saw an
increase in aggression from both the mothers and children that ate the altered soy. Finally, they also
recognized the infertility of the offspring of the altered soy mice. They noticed that none of them
had been able to mate with each other because they were

Lady s Dressing Room
The Lady s Dressing Room From aspects such as dress and outward appearance to manners and
matters of reputation and place in society, women have both rebelled and conceded to these
customs. Unveiling the seemingly effortless female beauty, A Lady s Dressing Room was written
in the beginning of the eighteenth century by widely popular Jonathan Swift. Through this work,
Swift primarily focuses on the contents on his beloved Celia s dressing room. He takes an inside
look at what it takes to make a womanlook the way that they present themselves to others.
Another eighteenth century work, Fantomina: or, Love in a Maze , was written by Eliza
Haywood and centers on a woman who uses dress to disguise herself in order to deceive her love
interest. Though the intentions and plots of each work are different, they each utilize dress to
change their characters in some way. A Lady s Dressing Room was written by Swift to open up a
world that he considered full of pride and vanity: a woman s beauty. He achieves this with use of
crude, scatological humor, Juvenalian satire, and farce.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In one particular disguise, the main character takes on the name Celia and dresses as a country
maiden. By simply changing her clothing to a round eared cap, a short red petticoat, and a little
jacket of grey stuff and speaking in a country dialect, she manages to convince Beauplaisir that
she is someone else (1437). This work achieves a similar feat as described in A Lady s Dressing
Room because each of the women get away with the deception of their male counterparts. Swift
takes on a more realistic view, while that described by Haywood is a little far fetched, considering
the fact that Beauplaisir never recognizes that he makes love to the same woman several

Wizard of Oz Narrative Report
Assignment 1 Narrative Report
Story and Plot
In a narrative film, a plot is considered all visible and audible elements present in a film, in
essence the film in its entirety including nondiegetic images. In The Wizard of Oz, the plot
begins with Dorothy (Judy Garland), a young farm girl from Kansas who dreams of escaping to
somewhere over the rainbow without troubles and torment for her dog Toto from a horrible
neighbour Miss Gulch (Margaret Hamilton). During a tornado she is hit on the head and is
transported to the World of Oz where she meets characters transformed from her Kansas life at
home, meeting three companions who are all missing a quality that they wish to gain. She goes on
a journey with them all to see the Wizard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oz is shot in bright and vibrant colours, which pertains to the idea of a magical land that appears
very opposed to the dull and colourless real world of Kansas, assisting on taking the viewer on the
journey over the rainbow . This goal oriented plot in The Wizard of Ozfollows a pattern of
development that encourages the viewer to expect Dorothy to reach her desired goal. The viewer
then sees each action of Dorothy s to be a progress of this desire to go home to Kansas.
The film is brought to a climax when the Dorothy and her friends return to visit the Wizard after
destroying the Wicked Witch of the West, of which he had requested. During this scene it is
revealed that the Wizard is in fact a fraud, an ordinary but clever man who although as no powers,
still fulfils the expectations of the story. He gives Scarecrow, Tinman and the Cowardly Lion the
answers they seek by giving them the self confidence to recognise they had the qualities which they
were looking for all along and he presents them with some token external symbols to represent this.
In the final scenes and formal resolution of the film, which is shot in sepia tones creating a
parallelism with Kansas on the opening scene, Dorothy attains her goal of returning home, waking
up in her own bedroom surrounded by friends and family from her real life, therefore fulfilling the

Natalie realizes that in order to determine Cookie Creations income, she must first make
adjustments. Natalie puts together the following additional information. 1.A count reveals that
$35 of baking supplies were used during November. 2.Natalie estimates that all of her baking
equipment will have a useful life of 5 years or 60 months and no salvage value. (Assume Natalie
decides to record a full month s worth of depreciation, regardless of when the equipment was

The Kudler Fine Foods Compensation Rates
The Kudler Fine Foods Compensation Rates The labor market of retail industries Introduction
The retail sectors are specializing in the selling of products that the consumers need in specific
times and places. However, it is hardly the retailer s responsibility to produce the goods. The
retailers just act agents, as they get the products to the consumers. Industrial retailing will focus
more on the sale of small quantities of the products to the buyers. Transformational processes are
not integrated in the retailing processes, as the retailers neither produce nor manufacture any
goods. Initially, retailing was just transacted in stores and shop. Presently, technological
upgrades and developments have affected the retailing process positively, leading to the use of
electronics to do transactions. In most cases, the retailers will transact with cash specifically
during payment of the products (Retail Council of Canada, 2009). History of the Kudler Fine
Foods (Summation) The Kudler Fine Foods (KFF) specializes in the retailing of grocery and
other edibles from 1998, when its official founder and owner, Kathy officially conceptualized the
first store at La Jolla, which is located in California. Just two years after that, the next store was in
Del Mar. The stores gained momentum and opened their third store in Encinitas. All the Kudler
stores are of high quality, with regards to the services provided and also the fashionable trends
adopted by the company. Currently, the stores

Reducing Falls Throughout The Elderly

REDUCING FALLS IN THE ELDERLY
Reducing Falls in the Elderly by Use of Multifactorial Assessments and Management Programs
Marney Belmore
Southeast Missouri State University
A fall is defined as an unanticipated occurrence where a person happens to lie on the ground,
floor or a surface that is below them from their prior standing, lying or sitting position. In the
United States, people over the age of 65 years of age is increasing at a rapid rate due to the increase
in the average life expectancy and our baby boomers advancing in years. In fact, the U.S. Census
Bureau predicts that the quantity of people aged 65 years or older will double by the year 2030 and
the people 85 years and older will grow by 5 times by the year 2050. With the increasing average
age of Americans, the escalation of falls in the elderly will increase tremendously because of many
different risk factors that affect our elderly population. (Michael et al., 2010).
Falls are triggered by multifaceted factors with numerous dangers that include either long or short
term influencing factors. The connections between these factors may be altered by the person?s
age, ailments, illnesses, diagnoses such as Parkinson?s, stroke, diabetes mellitus and arthritis, or
their surroundings. The major fall risk factors for elderly include their advancing age, loss of muscle
strength, unsteady gait, impaired balance, incontinence of bowel or bladder, depression, cognitive
impairment, due to

The Plan For Public Health And Safety
The next component of the General Plan is the plan for public health and safety which addresses
issues of: Geology and Seismicity, Flooding and Drainage, Noise, Air Installation Land Use
Compatibility, Hazardous Materials, Crime Prevention and Protection Services, Fire Prevention and
Suppression Services, Disaster Preparedness, Emergency Medical Facilities. The issue of geology
and seismicity is important to the Lancasterarea at large due to its location being less than ten
miles south of the San Andreas Fault. Major earthquakes in the area present a problem for
citizen s safety and possible property damage. A similar issue is that of flooding and drainage.
Because Lancaster exists within a valley and is relatively flat, the area is prone to flooding. One
of the current propositions is to include flood water basins. The water basins to mitigate for the
100 year flood are essentially large ditches on the corner of neighborhood streets. When a water
basin sits in the middle of a neighborhood it is not a functional part of the surrounding environment
and can become an eyesore in a community. This probably causes the NIMBY ism around water
basins, no matter how beneficial they may be. Noise is a very prevalent issue in Lancaster, due to
the amount of aeronautical activity conducted on EAFB. The Cityhas rezoned the flight area in
order to decrease the amount of overhead flights in the urbanized areas. This plan is mimicked in
the Air Installation Land UseCompatibility portion.

Improving service quality to meet customers standards is an ongoing part of doing business. In this
way, customers drive the market and the organization. At the same time that organizations act to
attract and satisfy customers, the customers themselves exercise ultimate influence. Their
satisfaction depends on both their expectations and their treatment. Through their choices,
customers decide which organizations survive and thrive, determine what goods and services are
available, and shape how they are provided. In addition to using their purchasing power, informed
consumers can shape the marketplace by communicating their preferences and standards to
organizations that are poised to listen and respond.
Contents of This Paper
For both service providers and consumers, making customer satisfaction a priority involves a
fundamental shift in thinking, organizing and acting. The customer satisfaction framework
proposed in this paper explores the potential of a customer satisfaction orientation as a means for
improving the goods and services, including those provided by the public sector, available to
residents of tough neighborhoods. This paper describes the ideas and research underlying the
framework and potential strategies for moving from concepts to action.

  • 2. The Lady s Dressing Room In Jonathan Swift s poem, The Lady s Dressing Room, the epistemology of experience is mostly endorsed. In Lady Mary Wortley Montagu s response poem to Swift, The Reasons that Induced Dr. S[wift] to Write a Poem Called the Lady s Dressing Room, the epistemology of experience is critiqued. The endorsement and critique is seen in the aesthetics of the poem (rhyme scheme, alliteration, and diction), how knowledge is presented or acquired, and how knowledge is used. Jonathan Swift s poem endorses knowledge through experience by taking Strephon into the female space in order to discover and report his experience in the female dressing room to his audience. Aesthetically, the rhyme scheme of the poem is AABB, with some of the lines in slant rhyme.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the nursery rhyme feelings is still conveyed, which gives off an air of learning. Wortley Montagu, in creating her pre history, creates a story that conveys the observation in an omniscient narrator. Wortley Montagu describes the doctor in a way that she is looking in on the situation and observing. As the poem continues, wit is clearly critiqued. Even though the doctor is learned, his prestige or knowledge does not allow him to enter into the female space. For example, Wortley Montagu writes that doctor had joked and punned, and swore and writ/ tried all his gallantry and Wit/...Could not move this dull hearted Creature (9 14). The doctor only receives access to the female space through the maid. Even though the doctor is intelligent, the prostitute is able to outwit the doctor by locking the money up. Wortley Montagu describes the situation best, With Learning Mad, with wisdom blind (36). Even within Wortley Montagu is a strong critique of the learning through observation that Swift praises. Wortley Montagu describes Swift s experience and knowledge as pointless (46). Wortley Montagu shares the certain knowledge is unnecessary. She also critiques that the reason that knowledge is being acquired needs to be examined as well to deem the knowledge valuable. Wortley Montagu is critical of the knowledge that is being produced in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. She calls to question the necessity of the information that Swift writes about. She asks the reader what is the knowledge s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Living Machines, Constructed Wetlands and Sustainable Water Resources Thesis: Conventional waste treatment plants, Living Machines and constructed wetlands can all be used for water purification, but only living machines and constructed wetlands will provide the human race with a sustainable future. Introduction Our liquid planet glows like a soft blue sapphire in the hard edged darkness of space. There is nothing else like it in the solar system. It is because of water (Miller 311). John Todd Water is the most important resource on the planet. Absolutely no life could exist with out the presence of water. Humans use water to cook, clean, bathe and drink. Conventional waste treatment plants, Living Machines and constructed wetlands can all be used for water purification, but only living machines and constructed wetlands will provide us with a sustainable future. Design and Funciton of Treatment Systems Conventional Sewage Treatment. Conventional Sewage Treatment plants are the most common system for wastewater treatment in the United States. These systems are found in all urban communities but only in a few rural communities. This complex system is responsible for processing of the waste of the majority of the people in the United States yet few of them understand the scientific principles involved with treatment. In addition many people are even unaware of where their wastewater goes after it has been flushed down the toilet or disappear through the bath tub drain. I will attempt to describe the biological, chemical and physical process involved with the treatment of wastewater through the use of conventional sewage treatment. The first step involved with wastewater treatment is the transport of the wastes from houses and industry to the treatment plant. This is done through a complex matrix of pipes and lift stations. All sewage goes to the treatment plant using the laws of gravity. Since the flow of gravity requires the sewage to head continually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Apocalypse Now Symbolism Essay According to Tommy Douglas, Man can now fly in the air like a bird, swim under the ocean like a fish, he can burrow into the ground like a mole. Now if only he could walk the earth like a man, this would be paradise. The use of birds have been used as different symbols in literature has been prevalent during our readings, some literature I would like to emphasis on is the film Apocalypse Now directed by Francis Ford Coppola, The Birds directed by Alfred Hitchcock, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, The Birds Daphne du Maurier, the musical art work of Charlie Parker Ornithology. The use of birds has been present to most of these books and film adaptations, but one film that had a lot bird like symbols was the film Apocalypse Now. What is the meaning behind this? Well, the reason why I think they would use helicopters in the film is that it shows how the technologically advance, the Americans were compared to the savages . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this movie it involves a lot of symbolism that ranges from money to greed. One part of the movie that shows a great example of this is when Melanie Daniels (portrayed by Tippi Hedren) and Mitch Brenner (portrayed by Rod Taylor) was in the Davidson s pet store. In the pet store when both Melanie and Mitch were having a conversation, Mitch asked if it was horrible having all the birds in their cages. What is the meaning of the cage in The Birds? Well, the film is trying to suggest that people can be imprisoned by the exclusive nature of love. For example, Melanie mentioned in the conversation that she lives in a gilded cage. Even though she s an heiress, it can be hard to leave the life one inherits. Birds are not the only species caged on their well being. Humans are like a caged animal as well, because we are regimented on when it is time to eat, sleep, or work. In that scene it was not the birds who are cage, but it was really the human ... • 5. The Pros And Cons Of Conscription In The Military Throughout human history, war has permeated the lives of billions of people. From early conflicts such as conquests to control vast swaths of land by Alexander the Great and Cyrus the Great to modern, global wars such as the World Wars, the concept of war has been at the forefront of humanity s mind for centuries. However, in recent years, opposition to war and lack of participation in the military has become a common theme in many countries, including the United States. To help alleviate the troubles caused by lack of participation, the United States instituted a law allowing for the conscription of its citizens. Conscription, which can also be referred to as a draft, is defined as the compulsory drafting of citizens into military service (What). The Draft has been utilized throughout US History in a couple of prominent wars; however, opposition has manifested against the Vietnam War and the draft, rightfully stemming from ethical opposition to the war and hatred for what the war and the draft stood for. The idea of conscription has been in the American eye throughout the entire history of the country. The idea of the registration of all men in America to be in the military was first introduced by George Washington. After witnessing the difficulties with creating a well trained militia during the Revolutionary war, Washington thought it was best to have all men join the military to more effectively defend the country. However, Congress did not pass any legislation that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Evolution of Graphic Design When graphic design began, it was much simpler than it is today. Most people consider graphic design to be done only on computers and fancy operating systems, when in fact graphic design in much more complex than that. Graphic design has its roots in early caveman drawings using stone, organic paints and charcoal. Since these early humans had no to little verbal communication, logic dictates that they would have to communicate instead with a plethora of symbols and graphic representations of ideas. As time progressed, the methods of visual communication, as well as verbal communication, evolved. Materials in graphic designbecame more refined such as digital or traditional printing. Some of the milestones in graphic design were the invention of printing presses, text based design such as Typography, molds, and computers. As new technology made the expression and sharing of art possible, those who chose to create art formed new styles and ideas that also evolved. Artistic molds were one of the first revolutionary things to come about in graphic design. The molds allowed for the mass production of certain objects, letters, or shapes that would otherwise take several hours to even days to be created. Once the molds were created, they could then be used to replicate their shape by filing them with clay, stone, cement, ink and other artistic materials. The molds can be made in varying shapes and sizes, allowing for artists to create precise works from different templates. Molds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Reality Of Cinem A Subjective Perspective Tesla Teed Professor Christina Kallas Intro to Film 29 September 2014 Reality in Cinema: A Subjective Perspective Ever since the inception of cinema, questions about film s ability to capture or distort true reality have plagued the medium. It is a question which satisfies most academic types: it involves existential questioning of reality , film theory (which, in itself, just sounds intelligent), and esoteric mostly esoteric film knowledge and jargon. Though it s a question that has been long dominated by pretension and esotericism, it s a very valid one that is important to investigate. Reality distortion through film is particularly salient because it affects almost all who watch movies, which is a lot of people. During my research, I ve come to a conclusion: Even though an objective reality in cinema doesn t exist, there are types of representations of reality that can have seriously damaging implications. These are representations of the world which are intended to be impetuses for the harm of others. Films like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Battleship Potemkin showcase this potential to dictate and distort reality. First, in order to decide whether reality distortion through film has any immediate implications, we must establish that it is impossible to capture an objective reality through film. Though this is not an essay that is exactly concerned with philosophical posturing, a bit of existentialist thought is required when asking the question of whether or ... • 11. And Death Shall Have No Dominion, By Dylan Thomas Dominion of Death For years and years; death was something that people saw as the only gateway to what they believed to be the afterlife or heaven. Believing that god would grant them access to heaven if they were to live holy and sinless lives. However towards the beginning of the 20th century this belief started to weave towards the belief that the afterlife would be the eternal end of ones life on physical earth, with some even believing that there wouldn t be an afterlife. This all leaded to people overall living happier and longer lives. This all inspired a type of writing style called modernism; to be more specific Neo romanticism. One of the most famous writers of this genre was Dylan Thomas who famously wrote And Death Shall Have No Dominion. This poem contains the characteristics of the beliefs of Neo Romanticism by showing that even though death must happen, it mustn t be something that one just lets stroll by and take them away. Because the belief is that death should be avoided in order to live the longest, fullest, and happiest life possible. The whole concept of living an alien life in the 19th century terms began to be known as Modernism. It drove to desire to change traditional ways of representations and to express the new ways of the era. In the case of the late 1800s old beliefs such as religion, treatment of monarchy, and social norms began to be questioned and challenged. Throughout the book, the main character, Candide, and various other characters with differing views on life, travel around the world overcoming many obstacles for the sole purpose of Candidefinding the woman he loved, Cunegonde. Pangloss possesses a certain amount of optimism that blinds him from all realistic thought. Pangloss believes that everything is for the best; this ideal leads to other unrealistic concepts, such as the idea that certain situations in this world were predetermined, and the only reason anything exists is for another specific, pre planned thing to occur; whatever horrible thing happens was meant to happen all along, and is, of course, for the best. For example, when Pangloss and Candide travel to Lisbon, they are hit with a terrible storm. After one of the sailors on the ship is thrown out and killed, Pangloss appears largely unfazed, Voltaire describes the situation, He tried to throw himself after him into the sea; he was prevented by the philosopher Pangloss, who proved to him that the Lisbon roads had been expressly created for the Anabaptist to be drowned in them (14). This way of thinking presents itself as incompassion because Pangloss was showing little regard for people facing great trouble, due to his belief that their problems are essential to other predestined events to occur. Pangloss s absurd set of values appear again when he and Candide do reach Lisbon. There happens to be an earthquake around the time of their arrival and many people are killed. When Candide is ... Surrogacy is defined as an arrangement by which a woman gives birth to a baby on behalf of a woman who is incapable of conceiving babies herself or is infertile. The issue of surrogacy has been running for almost three decades. Elizabeth Cane was the first woman in the United States to legally become a surrogate mother in 1980 (Chittom and Wagner). Surrogate births are illegal in many countries, including some states in the United States. For example, it is illegal in Michigan, Washington, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and New York, whereas it legal in California, Oregon, Texas, and Arkansas (Chittom and Wagner). According to the Organization of Parents Through Surrogacy(OPTS), about 22,000 babies have been born from surrogate mothers in the United States since surrogacy became legal in the 1970s (Chittom and Wagner). There are two types of surrogacy: traditional surrogacy and gestational surrogacy. In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate mother is impregnated using the sperm of the intended father by a procedure called donor insemination. In this case, the surrogate mother and the intended father are genetically related to the baby. In gestational surrogacy, a procedure called in vitro fertilization is used to impregnate the surrogate mother using a couple s fertilized ovum (Chittom and Wagner). Nationally, 963,000 teen drivers were involved in police reported motor vehicle crashes in 2013, which resulted in 383,000 injuries and 2,865 deaths (Carney). Many components, such as passengers, mobile devices, lack of experience, and miscellaneous distractions, contribute to this alarming statistic. One feasible solution to reduce the amount of teenage motor vehicle accidents is to provide a way for youth to gain life like experience driving with various, unexpected scenarios. One of the two biggest causes of accidents among adolescents is speeding, which exacerbates swerves and does not allow for enough reaction time. Teens are more likely than older drivers to speed and allow shorter headways (the distance from the front of one vehicle to the front of the next) (Singer.) Creating a simulation machine, much resembling a race car driving video game/chair found in many arcades, complete with speed limits and road signs, would help to equip young drivers for the dangers that may arise on real roads. The simulation could be programmed to come up with different obstacles that would require the user to react in whatever way he or she sees fit. He applied for a brief apprenticeship with Renaissance giant Titian, and branched out as a painter by the 1520 s. There he began his career painting biblical portraits in Italy. Somewhere between 1534 1535, Bordone first gained recognition as an maestro for painting a canvas of the The Fisherman Presenting the Ring to Doge Gradenigo. This boosted his career, but also showcased his limitations as his usage of perspective in his painting created dwarfed backgrounds. However, this didn t detract his fame as he became a famous name in Venetian cultural achievement. Bordone use of Mannerism lead to his crowning achievement, the Portrait of Giovanni Jacopo Caraglio in 1552. This piece of art embodies the four ideals of the Renaissance, as well as providing a critic of society. • 19. Atonement Research Paper Worship and sin cannot coexist. For example, before the fall, Adam and Eve did not need to acquire atonement to worship God, but instead lived in the Garden of Eden with Him. The Temple and Tabernacle were the places where man encountered God, so they served as vital religious components of Judaism. In addition to atonement, tabernacleand temple, further elements of Old Testamentworship include scripture, singing, and covenant renewal/remembrance. This essay will go over Old Testament worship practices and the significance of these practices. Atonement is the physical ritual conveying a sentiment of repentance. In the Old Testament, atonement was the method used in order to attain purity and restore relationship with God and the community of believers through a sacrificial statement. We see this demonstrated in time of the creation and fall, the patriarchs, the exodus/law/conquest, the kings, and the post exile (Lecture 1, 2016). There are numerous types of sacrifices that can be found in Leviticus: burnt offering (1:3 17), associated cereal offerings (2:1 16), peace offerings (3:1 17), sin offering (4:1 5:13) and guilt offering (5:14 6:7) (Peterson, 1993, p.38). The sacrificial system in the Old Testament to atone for unintentionally and intentionally committed sins and social failures that caused Israelitesto become unclean so that they can once again join the worshipping community of God (Leviticus 4:20; 5:16 18). • 23. Summary Of Little Aster, By Gottfried Benn Reflect on ways in which this poem expresses and develops aspects of the trajectory we have been following in art and literature this semester. Over the course of the semester, a trend that has certainly stuck out to me is that different art movements arise in reaction to the movement of the time. Romanticism arose in response to Neo Classicalism. Realism reacted against what was seen as excessive idealization and de emphasis of the real by the Romantics. Two groups arose in reaction to Realism: the Impressionists, who further developed the idea of conveying the real, and the Symbolists, who harken back to Romanticism s focus on emotions and subjectivity. Additionally, the Symbolists argued that all objects contained meaning within them, and Symbolist writers such as Baudelaire and Mallarme aimed to unlock these meanings in their works. Aestheticism reacted against the Symbolist idea that all objects contain meaning by creating art for art s sake. To the Aestheticists, there was no such thing as underlying meaning beneath an object: there was only surface. In close reading Little Aster, we may catch a glimpse of Gottfried Benn illustrating this trajectory literature progressed toward from Romanticism to Expressionism and the cusp of Modernism. Indeed, Benn takes advantage of literary techniques and sentimentalities to attack the Aestheticist idea that an object is just an object, while also distancing himself from Romanticism s idealization of Nature. In other words, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Georgia, Mississippi, and Alabama also have statewide antler restrictions and their herds are now thriving. Looking at this from an economic standpoint, an antler restriction may increase the number of hunters in the state again. In the year 2000, nearly 700,000 hunters bought deer gun licenses. Last year, just over 600,000 people purchased licenses. The number of hunters in this state are declining big time. Introduction Epilepsy is one of the most common and well known serious neurological condition. The current treatment of epilepsy is done with modern AEDs which is associated with side effects , dose related and chronic toxicity, and even, approximately 30% of the patients continue to have seizures with these current therapies and medicines. Because of this , natural products obtained from traditional remedies can be considered as an alternative source for the AEDs with novel structures and shows better safety and efficacy parameters. It is assumed that more than half of the medicinally active pharmaceutical drugs are from natural products or either derivatives of natural products. The presently available AEDs (Antiepileptic drugs )i.e., phenobarbitone, benzodiazepine, sodium valproate and ethosuximide are associated with a number of short comings, dose related neurotoxicity and other side effects. Though AED therapy is meant for a long duration usage , because of this , there is a risk of drug interactions and this problem is further compounded by the high protein bindings for some drugs and potential for inducing hepatic enzymes. These limitations with the conventional AEDs highlighted the need for developing newer agents for epilepsies. If you go camping, you usually build a fire to sit around at night. Have you ever wondered why a marshmallow cooks without touching the flame, why the smoke rises, or why water in a pan boils? Heatcan move from one object to another in three different ways: conduction, convection and radiation. Some sources of heat may include the following: the sun, friction, and the earth. Life on earth depends on the sun. The sun provides heat/light for the entire solar system. A person could generate a fire by rubbing two sticks together. The Earth contains much heat seep inside. Some of the heat escapes to the surface ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thermal energy radiates through air from a fire causing the fire s energy to transfer to the marshmallow. As stated before, thermal conductor occurs when particles of warmer matter bump into particles of cooler matter and transfer some of their thermal energy to the cooler particles. Conduction is usually faster in certain solids and liquids than in gases. Returning to the example of a camp fire; what happens if you use an old metal hangar to roast hot dogs? As the hot dogs cooks, the fire heats the end of the hanger. If we leave the hanger in the fire long enough, eventually the end we are holding will become too hot for us to handle. The flames to the metal were transferred by the heat, and then from molecule to molecule in the hanger. Now, what would have happened if you had chosen a stick to roast your hot dog? Though the stick may have caught fire, it would not have conducted the heat to your hand. This is because wood is a very poor heat conductor. Heat insulators are materials that do not let heat move through them easily. They do not conduct heat well. Plastic, wood and some fabrics are good thermal insulators. Thermal insulators are good at keeping heat out and keeping heat in. A winter scarf is a good example of a thermal insulator. It stops the heat from your body escaping into the cold air. But more important question is whether this really led to better quality and transparency of accounting. 4.Conclusion Main focus of IASB for introducing new standard for business combinations was that financial statements of companies became more realistic and to represent real economic position and value of a company. Therefore restriction to acquisition method as the only option for business combination is the advantage of new standard since using this method, companies do not have a choice whether to recognize goodwill arising from business combinations. Amortization was changed with impairment because amortization of goodwill can lead to arbitrary accounting according to IASB (Shinhan Financial Group n.d., p. 4). Problem arising is that impairment test and determination of recoverable amount require an active market with homogenies assets and available prices which is hard to determine as far as intangibles are concerned. Consequently, this leads to more subjective decisions regarding measurement and leaves a lot of space for management impact on goodwill. Therefore aim of IASB for transparency and full fair value model is not realized. Although IASB and FASB are making a lot of efforts, universally accepted treatment of goodwill still does not exist. Therefore this will remain controversial topic among economists until creators of financial standards find better solution for goodwill accounting. Reference ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In September of 2004, Merck took Vioxx off the market after a study revealed that it doubled the risk of heart attack or stroke for patients that used it for more than 18 months. I could not believe that something that was basically proven to cause heart attacks and strokes was permitted to be put on the market in the first place, and the fact that it may be brought back is horrible. I believe that things are being handled terribly. Since so many of the members of the committee are financially connected with Merck amp; Co., they would obviously vote in a way that would support the company, and in turn, benefit themselves. It seems that the value of the well being of the patients that use this medication is being neglected while the Merck and its associates simply look out for themselves. I do not believe that Vioxx should be put back on the market. For one thing, it has already become clear how detrimental its side effects can be. Another reason is that allowing this drug to be put back on the market will only discourage efforts made to create drugs that will be just as effective but without the negative side effects. He started out his career in film in July 1914 as an assistant, labourman and actor for his brother Francis Ford. It was not until 1917 where he made his debut as a director with the lost film, The Tornado and ended his career in the early 1970s with his last film Chesty: A Tribute to a Legend. During his early years, he was making silent films where Westerns were very popular during the time. When the introduction of sound came and the birth of Talkies came, however, the genre started losing its popularity. Yet, that did not stop the director from working on the genre, eventually to the point where he is now credited today as the man who played a huge role in bringing the westerns back to popularity. So, in this video essay, I will be talking about John Fords take on Westerns and how he revolutionized the genre. Now, what made him so unique in his take was his use of the scenery to enhance how the story is being told and how the characters were presented and developed in the movies. Unveiling the seemingly effortless female beauty, A Lady s Dressing Room was written in the beginning of the eighteenth century by widely popular Jonathan Swift. Through this work, Swift primarily focuses on the contents on his beloved Celia s dressing room. Another eighteenth century work, Fantomina: or, Love in a Maze , was written by Eliza Haywood and centers on a woman who uses dress to disguise herself in order to deceive her love interest. Though the intentions and plots of each work are different, they each utilize dress to change their characters in some way. The issue of geology and seismicity is important to the Lancasterarea at large due to its location being less than ten miles south of the San Andreas Fault. Major earthquakes in the area present a problem for citizen s safety and possible property damage. A similar issue is that of flooding and drainage. Because Lancaster exists within a valley and is relatively flat, the area is prone to flooding. One of the current propositions is to include flood water basins. The water basins to mitigate for the 100 year flood are essentially large ditches on the corner of neighborhood streets. When a water basin sits in the middle of a neighborhood it is not a functional part of the surrounding environment and can become an eyesore in a community. This probably causes the NIMBY ism around water basins, no matter how beneficial they may be. Noise is a very prevalent issue in Lancaster, due to the amount of aeronautical activity conducted on EAFB.
