customer in the final stage of supply chain.
• Goods are material items that can be seen or felt and are ready for
sale to consumers.(Tangible)Services is an activity which one party

• RETAILER is a person or agent or an agency or company who is
instrumental in reaching goods or merchandise or services to the
ultimate end user that is the consumer.
• It is the retailer who has to manage the business by attracting the
consumer to their stores and make them buy more and take repeat
purchases with them.
• Retail is the new buzzword. Retail sector is dynamic and varied.
• Buying ritual has now become a lifestyle as well as entertainment .
RETAIL STORE
• RETAIL STORE- Is a place of business usually owned and operated by a
retailer but some times owned and operated also by a manufacturer in
which merchandise is sold primarily to consumers .
• The store is the ultimate showcase and the physical point between the
brand and the customer.
• Retail spaces are at the forefront of contemporary interior design
because they are updated regularly to stay competitive and appealing.
• RETAIL DESIGN –is a combination of interior décor ,physical layout and
use of advertising within a shop. A good store design will reinforce a
brand ,showcase products through visual merchandising and benefits
the staff working their by enhancing their morale ,boost productivity
and provide a comfortable work place.
• RETAIL SECTOR in India is experiencing an exponential growth with
Retail development taking place not just in major cities and metros
but also in Rural areas.
• Like any other growing economies India too is experiencing major
transformation in retail sector. The way businesses are being carried
out has changed due to the following reasons-
1. CHANGING DEMORAPHICS
2. CHANGING INCOME PROFILES
3. DIMINISHING DIFFERENCE BETWEEN URBAN AND RURAL INDIA
4. RISE OF THE SELF EMPLOYED
• CHANGING DEMOGRAPHICS-Almost 40 % of our population are
youth, who are upwardly mobile ,have high aspirations and want to
acquire the latest things in the market.
• CHANGING INCOME PROFILES- Today the average middle class
families have more disposable income.
• DIMINISHING DIFFERENCE BETWEEN URBAN AND RURAL AREAS-
Though about 70% of Indians live in rural areas ,they are gaining
access to different types of products and services.
• RISE OF SELF EMPLOYED- These people use products much more to
signal success and are the first adopters of productivity tools and
products
• Retail in India has undergone through many variations in style of
business.
• Retail sector in India is one of the pillars of its economy and accounts
for about 10% of its GDP.
• India has a coexistence of both traditional and modern retail format .
• Established retailers are tapping into growing real market by
introducing innovative technologies ,different store formats and
payment mechanisms to gain market leadership. Advancement in
mobile technologies and easy availability of internet has given an
impetus to online businesses .
• Physical stores are here to stay because they make a significant
difference, providing consumers with touch and feel opportunities.
