Essay on U.S. Must Manage Debt to Help the World s Economy
The United States once had the largest economy in the entire world, and when there are problems with
the US economy shock waves can be felt all over the world. The global economy is inter connected on
several levels due to the amount of international trade which occurs. If the United States does not find
a way to manage its debt, or find a way to reduce the debt, it would increase the cost of finance for
business because of the increase in interest rates. This could lead to high inflation. The stock market
would also suffer badly as investors might feel that investing in the US market was too risky. This
would cause the stock markets to fall as investors would take their money to other countries, or invest
in gold; which many people have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A London based Wall Street Journal reporter, Charles Forelle warned the enthusiasm over investing
will change dramatically if the shutdown continues, and especially if the U.S. government defaults on
its debt. European markets are currently the most susceptible, and any delay in the stabilizing the US
market will delay economic recovery there as well (Krugman, 1999). According to a senior
International Monetary Fund official, in case of a U.S. debt default the entire global economy will be
negatively affected, Stock markets crashes in many countries is a distinct possibility which will add to
the problems of the recession that most of the world is currently undergoing. More damaging could be
the failure to raise the debt ceiling which could cause a default in most economies is increasing
ambiguity to a still shaky global economy. Although the U.S. can probably sustain a short economic
shutdown, a prolonged one will seriously impair the financial system leading to the collapse of the
global economy. A major portion of the operations of the U.S government were shut down completely
after the Senate could not reach an agreement on government spending at the start of the new financial
year. Republicans are not approving even a temporary spending bill unless there are radical changes in
Obama s 2010 health care law. Both parties are imposing conditions for increasing the government s

Aluminium Commodities
World production: 44.6 million tonnes (2011)
Despite being the most abundant metal on earth (in its raw state of bauxite), aluminium used to be
considered a precious metal. Only once the processes of extraction and smelting were made more
efficient and electricity became cheaper and more readily available did aluminium become what it is
today the most extensively used non ferrous metal in the world and the most liquid contract traded on

Aluminium is extremely light, pliable, has good electrical conductivity and is resistant to corrosion. It
is used in a wide variety of products: cans, foils, window frames, car body panels, wiring and kitchen

Lucy Keeler Influence
Lucy Keeler is an Australian, multi award winning painter who produces contemporary oil portraits.
She also works in projection, production design and animation and has worked in this way in theatre
and cultural events for ten years now. Her work has been an influence on my artwork since the start of
the production of my portfolio of art. Her use of people as her subject matter, her love of texture and
the detailed way in which she interprets an image and produces a piece that is both beautiful and
striking are all elements that have influenced me in my portfolio of work.
My first artwork, the painting of the owl s eye, involves the textured reproduction of a photographic
image of a close up on an owl s eye. In this piece I have attempted ... Show more content on

Through choosing people that would not normally be viewed by much of the public, as well as my
painting of the nocturnal predator that is the owl, I force the viewer to engage with that which they are
not accustomed to. This is a quality that I can attribute to Keeler s work and it is therefore evident that
she has played a large role in influencing my work to be what it is today. Not only has her technique
influenced my work but I have further internalised the essence of what she really tries to portray in her
artwork. In fact, without Lucy Keeler s influence on my work, I do not think that my artwork would
have the same essence and presence as it does. Like any good piece of artwork, Keeler s work has
managed to evoke emotion in me as the viewer and has lead to a processing of that emotion through
the physical manifestation of those feelings that were transmitted through her work. This has allowed
me to understand the power of visual beauty and has explained to me the importance thereof in a way
that words cannot. Consequently, the influence of her work has left me reeling in awe and has given
me momentum to explore new techniques and

The Role Of Masculinity In Disney And Pixar
Characterized to Be Emasculated
Questioning the masculinity within male characters of Disney/Pixar, by watching their son s
perspective on the film Cars, in Post Princess Models of Gender: The New Man in Disney/Pixar, Ken
Gillam and Shannon R. Wooden examine multiple movies and point out that the leading male
characters in Cars, Toy Story, and The Incredibles, are victims of emasculation. Prior to Disney/Pixar
releasing nine movies, Disney conveyed all its main male characters to be alpha male (472). However,
Pixar opened new types of characters, those that led to having the characters masculinity stripped by
another supporting character in the film. The authors draw attention from the strong male model to the
New Man (476) role. Gillam and Wooden focus on the main male characters in each of the movies
who all start with a high machismo personality, which rapidly transitions into an effeminate identity.
Buzz, Woody, Mr. Incredible, and Lighting McQueen all assumed they were going to achieve the
alpha male (472) status, by isolating from their friends and family, and becoming agitated towards any
forces that challenged their power. Each of these characters quickly realized the alpha male qualities
were not going to help them achieve what was expected. The authors point out that the main emotions
that the characters possess in the beginning of the movies is anger and frustration (474). Why did
Disney originally limit the emotions that men can feel? The

Case Study 1: Breast Cancer
Situation: The client is a 50 year old female teacher who was notified of an abnormal screening
mammogram. Diagnosis of infiltrating ductal carcinoma was made following a stereotactic needle
biopsy of a 1.5 x 1.5 cm lobulated mass at the 3:00 position in her left breast. The client had a
modified radical mastectomy with lymph node dissection. The sentinel lymph node and 11 of 16
lymph nodes were positive for tumor. Estrogen receptors and progesterone receptors were both
positive. Further staging work up was negative for distant metastasis. Her final staging was stage IIB.

CASE STUDY PROGRESS: The client has now received 3 cycles of combination chemotherapy for
her breast cancer. Her last treatment with doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, and 5 fluorouracil was
approximately 12 days ago. She came to the emergency room with a 2 day history of fever, chills, and
shortness of breath. On arrival, she is disoriented and agitated. Vital signs are 86/43, 119, 28, 39.8° C,
SaO2 85% on room air. Laboratory data include WBC 1.2 thou/cmm, Hct 24.9%, Hgb 8.7 g/dl,
platelets 125 thou/cmm. Differential WBC count shows 37% granulocytes, 60% lymphocytes, 3%
monocytes. Chem 14 is within normal limits, with the exception of BUN 28 mg/dl, creatinine 1.6
mg/dl, and lactic acid 2.4 mg/dl. Chest x ray demonstrates diffuse infiltrates in the left lower lung.
Granulocytes include neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils.
Bands, or stabs, are immature neutrophils.
Nongranulocytes include lymphocytes and monocytes.
The formula for absolute granulocyte count (AGC) is:
AGC = Granulocyte count (%Neutrophils + %Bands)/100 X WBC
AGC = 0.37 X 1200 = 444/cmm
10. The client s AGC is 444/cmm. What is the significance of an AGC of 444/cmm?
An AGC of less than 500/cmm puts a patient at a severe risk of infection.
Some labs still report both neutrophils and bands, so this calculation is necessary. Modern labs report
straight granulocyte.

The House of Mirth and the Gilded Age
Novelist Edith Wharton wrote her defining work, 1905 s the House of Mirth, on a subject she knew all
too well: the style over substance realm of New York s upper crust society during the Gilded Age.
Having been raised in this fashionable society, Wharton knew both its intricacies and cruelties
firsthand. The triumphant rise and tragic fall of protagonist Lily Bart demonstrate both the sunshine
and shadow of the Gilded Age. The House of Mirth not only exposes the reality of how the other half
live, but also satirizes and condemns their elitist existence. Historians refer to the 1870s, 1880s, and
1890s as America s Gilded Age. This was essentially a time when stock market trading and industrial
expansion widened the chasm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wharton never reveals whether or not Lily s death was intentional. Regardless, she is finally free of
the chains of wealth and politics that bound her on Earth. Analyzing the characters in the House of
Mirth also assists the reader in uncovering the author s intent. The only truly content character is
Lawrence Selden, who is not rich, but is self sufficient and comfortable. Lily s incredible outer beauty
cannot mask the internal suffering which she endures. This is Wharton s way of revealing the
emptiness and greed behind the glittering exterior of elite society. The Dorsets, despite their fabulous
wealth, are the most unhappy characters in the novel. Bertha is a cruel and bitter antagonist, and her
husband is a lonely, pathetic old man. Edith Wharton spent her entire life rubbing elbows with the
upper crust, yet still believed that money cannot buy happiness. The House of Mirth may be
categorized as a novel of manners, a literary genre which explores the struggle of the individual in
society, and most commonly, the way in which that struggle effects women and Lucas 4 marriage.
This genre is meant to expose the absurdities of popular convention and encourage the reader to
challenge the existing social edifice. In the most convenient definitions, Wharton s the House of Mirth
is a cautionary tale which warns of the consequences of valuing monetary wealth over emotional and
spiritual wealth,

Waitress Career Research Paper
A day in the life of a nurse can be exciting, tiring, and very fulfilling. Nursing has a lot in common
with being a waitress. The two professions have differences in the way they are obtained. Nursing
requires formal education and has heavy responsibilities, whereas waiting tables needs no formal
training and has limited responsibilities. Nurses have a lot of pride in their profession and can have an
impact on the lives of patients. Waiters may brighten a customer s day. Nurses and waiters both cater

education is required for the job, the waiter needs to be able to read, write, and have basic math skills.
Most restaurants train new employees for several days. The menu must be memorized. The waiter
needs to know the lay out of the restaurant. Most restaurants these days are computerized and the
waiter will need to be familiar with the program used to enter orders. The waiter has minimal
responsibilities. If the waiter has a bad night, the next may be better. There are no major consequences
for messing up an order, the worst that can happen is the loss of a tip. When the waiter leaves their

their money makers. Waiters depend on tips. Tips are made through good customer service and
making people happy. The task is not always easy. People can be rude and nasty. The waiter must put
their pride aside to make tips. The waiter carries large trays of food, fills endless drinks, burns
themselves on hot plates, and walks countless miles. They are at times belittled by unhappy
customers. The waiter did nothing to deserve this

The rain seemed neverending. Soaking the ground until it could not bear anymore. Turning the ground
into a brown sticky paste that attached itself onto anything it touched. In the distance, a thin hooded
figure could be seen struggling to move towards a decrepit shack with a pack on its back. No one

of the shrouded figure. She s an elf. Her face was as pale as the snow on the mountains; eyes as green
as emeralds, with hair as black as night. Through all her beauty, you could tell that she was in pain.
With every step she took, she clutched her side. A long, barbed arrow protruded from her abdomen.

In June 2017, Youth Uprising will create a district wide policy with Alameda County to screen all A.A.
students for stress and anxiety (See Appendix A). Starting July 2017, Beauty in the Process program
will be the result of the new district wide policy in Alameda County (See Appendix A). This will be a
pilot program for one year at Lincoln Middle School in Alameda, California. Volunteers will be
recruited from the school s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and in return each volunteer, up to six
persons, will receive a school supply grant for $500. Youth UpRising will provide a program
coordinator, certified health educator, social worker and guidance counselor from the organization s
program to make the recruitment processes easier.
The program will partner with Flying Yoga Studios in Alameda, since they already have experience
teaching yoga and meditation to younger children. The partnership will give student yoga instructors
more community hours while assisting a certified yoga instructor. This will ensure students get more
attention during sessions with two paid yoga instructors plus additional student instructors. Volunteers
will then be fingerprinted and background checked. Art instructor will be recruited through the
Alameda County Department of Education to hire an art instructor with teaching credentials.
There are approximately 900 students at Lincoln Middle School, of which around 6% are African
American. The students will be given a

Andromache In EuripidesTiger At The Gates
Andromache vengefully curses Helen, calling her an evil incarnate, a curse on both barbarians and
Greeks and one whose beautiful eyes brought ugly destruction to the noble fields of Phrygia
(Euripides. TTW.781 783). As a female, soon to be slave of Greek enemy forces, she knows she can
do no more than curse; at this point in the time, she must accept a fate of servitude or death. The word
Andromache stems from ἀνήρ, man, and μάχομαι, to battle or dispute (Liddell).
Her characteristics and actions in Tiger at the Gates appropriately reflect the apparent meaning of her
name: one who fights or disputes with a man. In the beginning of the play, pro war and anti war sides
are swiftly drawn in Troy, with the old men rallying for war and women calling for peace.
Andromache is quick to establish her position, along with Hecuba, against war and against the men.
Although she does not lead the anti war argument (it is Hector and Hecuba who do so), she calmly
disputes with Priam in a logical manner, albeit sometimes snarky manner. She acknowledges Priam s
fondness for women and so, asks him to listen to what they have to say. She follows this by
judiciously asking how their country will be made stronger by sending the vigorous and brave men of
Troy to their deaths (Giradoux 21 22). This interaction not only illustrates her wisdom and moral
strength, but her desire for peace above all. She knows all too well the bitter tragedies and bleak
destructions war will bring, as

Essay The Improper Use of Patient Restraints
The Improper Use of Patient Restraints Running head: PATIENT RESTRAINT PROTOCOLS Patient
restraints have been a hot issue within the past ten to fifteen years in nursing. There have been
numerous studies done on the adverse affects restraints have on patients, physiologically and
psychologically. Anger, fear, impaired mobility, bladder and bowel incontinence, eating difficulty, skin
breakdown, and nosocomial infections have all been associated with the use of restraints (Weeks,
1997; Janelli, 1995). Therefore, there has been a move to limit the use of restraints and develop safer
protocols for the times that they are used. All hospitals, today, have restraint protocols that nursing
staff should follow when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of the patients are at risk for falls due to neurological problems. There are at least two to three
patients restrained on the unit on a daily basis. Some of the reasons nurses restrain patients are to
prevent them from harming themselves or others, to help maintain treatment plans, and to control
confused or agitated patients (Stratmann, Vinson, Magee and Hardin, 1997). The most frequently used
restraints are vests, wrist, belts/ties, mitten and ankle, in that order (Stratmann et al., 1997). Many
research studies currently taking place are focused towards discovering alternatives to restraints.
Identifying successful alternatives to restraints and educating nurses about alternatives has helped in
reducing the use of restraints (Winston, Morelli, Bramble, Friday and Sanders, 1999; Weeks, 1997).
There are times, however, when restraints are needed to protect patients (Richman, 1998; Dibartolo,
1998). Restraints would be indicated for an intubated patient who keeps pulling out his endotracheal
tube. In such cases, failing to use restraints could result in a claim or lawsuit being brought on for
negligence (Richman, 1998). In 1992, the Food and Drug Administration issued a warning on
restraints because of the nearly 300 deaths and injuries related to restraint use occurring each year
(Janelli, 1995). Problems identified by the FDA included inappropriate restraint selection, errors in
applying devices, and inadequate monitoring of the

Self-Acquaintance And John Winthrop s City Upon A Hill
For our second week of school, we learned about the different Puritan ideals and how they influenced
our society today. In this essay, I will discuss one of those many ideals and provide evidence to defend
that it is, indeed, a Puritanical ideal that can be found in many early colonial pieces of literature, such
as Self Acquaintance by William Cooper, Here followes some verses upon the burning of our house,
July 10th, 1666 by Anne Bradstreet, and John Winthrop s City Upon A Hill, 1630. Loyalty to God, or
faith, is a Puritan ideal.
Faith is a Puritan ideal as shown in many early colonial works. In Self Acquaintance by William
Cooper, the speaker begins to question his faith before stating, Oh, cleanse me in a Saviour s
blood,/Transform me by thy pow r,/And make me thy beloved abode,/And let me rove no more. As he
begins to wander from his faith, he cries out to God, his Saviour, to cleanse him from the sin of
doubting his faith. In Anne Bradstreet s Here followes some verses upon the burning of our house,

Never on a Sunday is a case study that discusses the philosophy carried out by companies like McCoy

focus more on the items in store and customer service and the majority of their administrative
workload is handled through headquarters (Schermerhom, Osborn, Uhl bien, Hunt, 2012, p. 353).
Working as a manager myself that really sounds like a great method of management. There are many
times where my boss and the rest of the management team where I work struggles. Keeping up with
all the administrative duties and the store at the same time can be really trying and is a never ending
workload. This makes neither one of them get the attention they require and more often than not we
find ourselves trying to do just enough administrative work and just enough floor work to get through
the day. Additionally, the management teams meet regularly to discuss products and other important
aspects that impact the stores. Sometimes in my line of work we wish that we had the opportunity to

What Is The Ewell In To Kill A Mockingbird
Understanding is a difficult thing. Some people believe that you can understand after hearing the facts,
and others are convinced that you must walk a mile in a person s shoes before knowing what it is like
to live their life. I would agree with one of the two aforementioned claims, but I believe that my life is
just not worth understanding. Some may say that is absurd, or hopeless, or dark. But you clearly do
not understand.
I am a Ewell.
For anyone living in my small, hole in the wall town called Maycomb, that would be enough. Four

They were her form of faith, her aspiration to live with some dignity. I don t know if she knows, but I

Germline Engineering and Reprogenetic Technologies Essay
Modern technologies are constantly advancing in a multitude of ways to the degree that scientists have
gained enough knowledgeable about the human genome to be able to find specific genes during the
embryonic stage of reproduction. Scientists have already begun to use this knowledge to allow parents
the ability to select the sex of their child and screen for genetic diseases via preimplantation genetic
diagnosis (PGD) with in vitro fertilization (IVF). Sex selection has already created world wide
discussion regarding the ethics of such a situation. However, scientists are now looking toward
germline engineering which will essentially allow parents to select and alter genetic traits of their
children before implantation of the embryo into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Darnovsky suggests that although many genetic scientists support germline engineering because it can
potentially resist transfer of hereditary mutations, these scientists fail to mention that preimplantation
genetic screening (PGS) does the same effect in allowing a technician to screen embryos for traces of
diseases and simply deliver any non infected embryos to the mother s body. In conjunction,
Darnovsky endorses the alternative of prenatal screening with the option of abortion to avoid the use
of in vitro fertilization. Cohan, however, observes that it would dubious for the Court to restrict a
woman s reproductive rights to use germline technology while people are already using reproductive
technologies such as in vitro fertilization, artificial insemination, and surrogacy. He asserts that the
right to use these reproductive technologies is protected by law, and implies that it would be
hypocritical for the government to restrict use of germline technology while these other reproductive
technologies are still in effect.
Although Cohan insists that germline engineering could potentially infuse good behavior habits into
children, Darnovsky asserts that the technology has the potential to encourage the view that any baby

Columbus
A great hero from Europe or a man with only himself and his people in mind? Many people believe
that he was a hero whose discoveries lead to the possibilities we have in America today, while many
other condemn him for the deaths of many Native Americans that occurred to make it possible to live
in America today. What would someone like me see in Columbus discoveries and enslavements? He
introduced the Europeans to new products and ways of financial expansion. Even though Columbus

The discovery of the Americas also allowed new trading options and financial expansion which
benefited all of Europe.
What great length would one man go to for himself and his people? Although Columbus discoveries
offered more trade and financial gain for Europe and himself, the consequences were more deadly
than the gain could ever be fruitful for the natives. With the grazing animals that the Europeans
brought over to the natives, also came a drop in vegetation which decreased their food supply. With
the exchange of goods between the Europeans and the natives there was also an exchange of diseases.
With the diseases such as smallpox, mumps, measles, and whooping cough, also came another called
death. With these diseases spreading through the native villages, fifty to ninety percent of the native
population died. With the decrease in native population also can a decrease in their resistance and
ability to fight off the Europeans. Columbus began to think of the natives as future slave laborers.
Many unsuccessful attempts were made to enslave the natives but each failed and Columbus gave up
and started looking toward the West Africans. They began kidnapping Africans and bringing them
over by ship to the Americas. Many died during the voyages and the ones that survived became slaves
and worked in the Americas.
What could the prospect of becoming rich do to a person not to mention a country? The countries that
funded the explorers are just at fault

Clubs and Non Profit Organizations
Introduction What s the deal? Clubs are very common establishments in our society. Firstly, before I
further explain all the required information, we have to understand that a club operates differently as
compared to a normal business/enterprise. The most imperative difference between a business and this
sports club is that a business is established with the aim of generating profit which the owner is
entitled to because the owner is the person who provides the start up capital. The low down A sports
club on the other hand, it is established to provide facilities to the members and no profit is made. If,
through fund raising efforts the club makes, the income generated exceeds the expenses incurred, then

when the member joins the club for the first time. If entrance fees are capitalised, they will be taken to
the ACCUMULATED FUND account and if not, they will entered into the INCOME AND
EXPENDITURE account. iii. Sale on Refreshments Often, a club or society may have a specific
corner where refreshments and snacks are sold for the convenience of its members. This is not the
main activity of the club, yet, is a small trading activity that generates funds for the club. Western
Cape Soccer Club prepares a Refreshment Trading Account to account for the profit or loss arising
from such an activity. The money that the club receives from this activity will serve as a portion of the
income. When the physical refreshments are bought, this is recorded in the REFRESHMENTS
ACCOUNT which is an asset account. If there are refreshments left over at the end of the financial
period, these have to be recorded in the account called REFRESHMENTS ON HAND and these will
be used in the next financial period. Refreshments account will increase on the Debit side and if the
refreshments are sold, the account decreases on the Credit side (as it is an asset account). The profit
made will be accounted for with a contra account PROFIT ON SALE OF REFRESHMENTS. I have
illustrated how Western Cape Soccer Club will enter the Refreshments Ledger Account: DR

Power Struggle In Philippa Gregory s The Lady Of The Rivers
The novel The Lady of the Rivers follows the story of a noblewoman, Jacquetta of Luxembourg,
during the early to mid 1400s. She enters the world of politics at age seventeen when she is married to
the Duke of Bedford. When he dies, she falls in love with and marries a squire, which was not socially
acceptable because he was below her rank. However, she eventually regains her position and becomes
a close friend and advisor of the queen of England, Margaret of Anjou. However, the country begins to
break down as battles between political figures begin. Political and military battles are prominent in
the novel as they are centers of conflict throughout the book. Philippa Gregory s The Lady of the
Rivers accurately portrays the extensive power struggle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book, the royal army and the Londoners pushed the Kentish men back across the river and then
raised the drawbridge, which effectively locked them out. After this, the king sent pardons to all of the
rebels involved in the battle. This series of events is reflected by an article discussing the rebellion. It
says, having failed in this battle to gain control of the bridge, the captain of the Kentish militia, Jack
Cade, negotiated a general pardon for his followers (Bohna). Both the novel and the source state that

political populace as a sign of weakness, and the people who were so easily pardoned did not seem to

Pros And Cons Of Cyrus
In the mid first millennium BCE, numerous groups arose, each with a different set of perspectives,
worldviews, and attitudes: the Israelites, the Phoenicians, Neo Assyrians, Persians and Greeks, and so
on. For the Jews, they were held captive in Babylon, later returned to Jerusalem by Cyrus, the King of
the Persians. Therefore, according to the first article, Cyrus was welcome within their society. These
people were extremely religious, especially in regards to Marduk, and they all felt the need to help
build their temple in Jerusalem. Everyone wanted to help for their beliefs and God, and gave gifts,
money, and resources. Even the Greeks, who later defeated the Persians, saw Cyrus as a model ruler
(textbook 132). Even more so, according to the Persian Customs article, most of the clans were made
by Cyrus, and the rest, nomad tribes, heavily depended on Cyrus tribes. The Greeks, meanwhile, had
their own opinions on the Persians, seen through Herodotus words. He states that the Persians do not
see the Gods, as they have no temples, and instead offer sacrifices; almost as if they enjoy the killings.
During this, the Persian sacrificer does not pray to himself, but to all of the Persians, which illustrates
how these people truly cared about their empire, and had great respect for the King, also sacrificing to
the sun, moon, earth, wind instead of seeing the God itself (Persian Customs). The Greeks did not
agree with the Persians, and around this time had many conflicts.

How Is Holden Caulfield Crazy
Holden Caulfield from Catcher in the Rye only likes the innocent parts of people. Throughout the
book we are given examples of how Holden has different feelings based on who he is talking to. Three
important characters in the book give three different personalities that add up to the overall conclusion
that Holden is crazy.
Stradlater is one of the most non innocent characters in the story, and we see throughout the book
Holden picking fights with him. He is known to take girls on dates and rape them in the back of his
coaches car. After he takes Holden s childhood friend, Jane, on a date, he refuses to tell Holden what
they did. Holden assumes he tried to rape her and take away her innocence, and immediately he grows
in hatred toward Stradlater. The text says, I told him he didn t care because he was a goddam stupid
moron. He hated it when you called him a moron. All morons hate when you call them a moron. (50)
Holden then gets into a big fight with Stradlater. In the story he calls him, A dirty stupid sonuvabitch
moron. (50) And says, That s just the trouble with all you morons. You never want to discuss anything.
That s the way you can always tell a moron. They never want to discuss anything. (50) He yells at
Stradlater, tries to anger him, and ends up losing in a fight to him. This is the first time Holden shows
hatred toward someone in the story. Someone that has taken away someone else s innocence. Overall,
these pieces from the text give us evidence of Holden

Persuasive Essay On Dolphins
The Interesting Dolphin
Many people know those cute, funny, intelligent animals that are known as dolphins, right?
There are so many interesting things about them. Dolphins have been around for about 15 million
years now. They re extremely intelligent, probably even more intelligent than us humans. Dolphins are
becoming endangered because of humans and many don t know that. They are known as the oceans
most kind animals.Dolphins have originated millions of years ago,are extremely endangered, and are
becoming endangered. The most important thing to know about dolphins would probably be how they
originated because without that those cute aquatic mammals wouldn t even exist. Dolphins have been
around a lot longer than humans. They originated about 50 million years ago. The most common
dolphin, being the bottlenose dolphin, has been around for 15 million years. Surprisingly, dolphins
originated from members of the cetaceans group. Cetaceans used to be land mammals but evolved into
being aquatic mammals. In From Land to Water it stated, The transition from land to water is
documented by a series of intermediate fossils from India and Pakistan. This research helps prove how
they used to be land mammals but evolved to live in the ocean. Dolphins are one out of many aquatic
mammals who need oxygen, but they need water in order to live. Believe it or not, dolphins are
somewhat related to hippos, camels, deer, cattle, and giraffes. In From Land to Water, Many features

The Characters Of The Pardoner From The Canterbury TalesBy...
In the medieval church, a pardoner was a clergy member who had the authority from the pope to grant
indulgences to people who showed great charity. Pardoners were originally called questors who
gained the named Pardoner for their ability to pardon people of their sins(The Role of the Pardoner). A
pardoner usually worked under the authority of a Bishop. There is a great deal of evidence that many
pardoners were fraudulent, and also saw their role as an opportunity to take thieve money from the
poor and helpless. All a Pardoner needed to sell indulgences was a fine looking array of letters along
with positive manner in making the appeal to scheme commoners of their money(The Role of the
Pardoner). Pardoners also sold holy relics which were artefacts claimed to be bones, body parts, scraps
of clothing, or personal belongings of saints which held powers unknown to man. Geoffrey Chaucer s
Pardoner from The Canterbury Tales shows similar characteristics and traits to ones of the medieval
time period. Chaucer s Pardoner from The Canterbury Tales falls directly under the category of being
corrupt and unethical for he uses false certificates and relics to extort money for himself; therefore, he
is criticizing the corruption of the church. The Pardoner s Prologue begins with the Pardoner
explaining to the pilgrims about himself and also shows off some of his relics. The relics are a
counterfeit, however the Pardoner says it does not phase him because he will still be able to

American Me (1992) is a biographical drama directed and acted by Edward James Olmos. Olmos
main character, Santana, is a Chicano from East Los Angeles (L.A.), who at an early age was
introduced to the U.S. penal system and grew to become a leader of the Mexican Mafia prison gang,
La Eme. Within the belly of the U.S. penal system the young Santana learns that respect is gained
through acts of violence. To be considered with respect is the ultimate achievement in Santana s
environments/ home in East L.A. and in prison. Young Santana and two of his childhood friends, J.D.

The first evening in Juvenile hall, young Santana is held down and raped by a fellow inmate. Rather
than remain docile and accept repeat violation or the threat of death, Santana responds by killing the
rapist with his own shank. Santana s action is met with approval from his peers. This is Santana s first
experience earning respect . The punishment of an extended sentence was of little consequence
compared to the respect young Santa earned from this act of violence. Santana has resolved that he
found the answer (Olmos, 1992). He is conditioned at an early age that violence in the guise of respect
is an approved response to opposition or assault. Respect ensures insulation from acts of violence
from others, garners familial relationships, and provides opportunity to gain power and wealth. As
Santana matures and La Eme grows in power, so too do the acts of violence necessary to maintain the
respect of rival gangs and the members of his own gang. Weakness or an action that could be
perceived as weak by a member of La Eme was intolerable, typically ending in their

Back to the starting point of assessing the big picture, the broad horizon....once enough data is
retrieved from the rapidly changing environment, the brain internalizes the data, discards the invalid
data (noted as a distraction), then narrowly focuses on the data to rehearse it, then it can move on to
the performance. If the brain rushes through any of this split second processing, it can make a
mistake/error.

Frankenstein And Individualism
Romanticism is the active search for expression and understanding, whether scientifically or creatively
and the composers of texts are significant in providing insight and understanding of the various
perceptions of these individuals. There are countless concepts and ideologies that contribute to the
way of thinking that is Romanticism. However, two themes consistent in and central to texts that
express Romantic concerns is that of the transcendent world; a world most commonly manifested in
the realm of the imagination and within the expression and search for the divinity that links one
human being to another and creates individualism between persons.
Within my studies I have recognised to a great extent that ways of thinking are represented ... Show

This law defying creation, being the first and only of its kind, is an individual. Schlegel s discussion of
German Romanticism in Philosophy argues the belief that philosophy is the inner mental life and
highlights the importance of individualism for the human condition. An individual is a being who is
different from the rest, and who defies the laws of an average being in some way. Because the
Creature is cast out by society, he is forced to live in the forest, to survive in wildlife, and thus
becomes very close to nature. The monster is aware that he is alone, and informs De Lacey that he is
...an unfortunate and deserted creature; I look around, and I have no relation or friend upon earth . In
hopes of receiving some comfort and love, which he so desperately craves. Mary Shelley uses ice to
signify the Creature in her novel Frankenstein . The ice, representing the individual, shows the reader
the talents of an individual and what it meant to be an individual in the romantic era. Ice is often used
to show solitary and lifelessness, which bring a sombre mood, and add to the intensity of the
interactions between Victor and the Creature. The monster tells Frankenstein to Follow me; I seek the
everlasting ices of the north, where you will feel the misery of cold and frost, to which I am impassive

Positive And Positive Aspects Of A Positive School
Introduction
A positive school climate is essential. Schools with a positive climate tend to have less discipline
problems. In addition, positive climates can encourage positive development, as well as promote
academic motivation and engagement. This, in turn leads to fewer absences and improvements in
academic achievement.
Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) is a prevention oriented way for school
personnel to organize evidence based practices, improve their implementation of those practices, and
maximize academic and social behavior outcomes for students. (PBIS: Positive Behavioral
Interventions Supports, 2015)
Creating a system that recognizes and appreciates positive behavior is a key part of maintaining a
positive school climate.
Participants
Teams identified at the school will consist of an administrator, counselor, lead teacher, and PBIS
coordinator or other student services coordinator. Substitutions for team members are permitted except
for the school administrator.
Teams, with the assistance of a facilitator from the School Safety Resource Center, the Anti
Defamation League or the Colorado Education Initiative, would work through data and decide on a
plan of action.
After receiving the necessary training, the selected team would then present material to school staff
and monitor progress throughout the school year through staff evaluations and student and parent
surveys.
Participants include administrators, school staff, parents, and

  • 2. Essay on U.S. Must Manage Debt to Help the World s Economy The United States once had the largest economy in the entire world, and when there are problems with the US economy shock waves can be felt all over the world. The global economy is inter connected on several levels due to the amount of international trade which occurs. If the United States does not find a way to manage its debt, or find a way to reduce the debt, it would increase the cost of finance for business because of the increase in interest rates. This could lead to high inflation. The stock market would also suffer badly as investors might feel that investing in the US market was too risky. This would cause the stock markets to fall as investors would take their money to other countries, or invest in gold; which many people have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A London based Wall Street Journal reporter, Charles Forelle warned the enthusiasm over investing will change dramatically if the shutdown continues, and especially if the U.S. government defaults on its debt. European markets are currently the most susceptible, and any delay in the stabilizing the US market will delay economic recovery there as well (Krugman, 1999). According to a senior International Monetary Fund official, in case of a U.S. debt default the entire global economy will be negatively affected, Stock markets crashes in many countries is a distinct possibility which will add to the problems of the recession that most of the world is currently undergoing. More damaging could be the failure to raise the debt ceiling which could cause a default in most economies is increasing ambiguity to a still shaky global economy. Although the U.S. can probably sustain a short economic shutdown, a prolonged one will seriously impair the financial system leading to the collapse of the global economy. A major portion of the operations of the U.S government were shut down completely after the Senate could not reach an agreement on government spending at the start of the new financial year. Republicans are not approving even a temporary spending bill unless there are radical changes in Obama s 2010 health care law. Both parties are imposing conditions for increasing the government s $16.7 trillion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Lucy Keeler Influence Lucy Keeler is an Australian, multi award winning painter who produces contemporary oil portraits. She also works in projection, production design and animation and has worked in this way in theatre and cultural events for ten years now. Her work has been an influence on my artwork since the start of the production of my portfolio of art. Her use of people as her subject matter, her love of texture and the detailed way in which she interprets an image and produces a piece that is both beautiful and striking are all elements that have influenced me in my portfolio of work. My first artwork, the painting of the owl s eye, involves the textured reproduction of a photographic image of a close up on an owl s eye. In this piece I have attempted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through choosing people that would not normally be viewed by much of the public, as well as my painting of the nocturnal predator that is the owl, I force the viewer to engage with that which they are not accustomed to. This is a quality that I can attribute to Keeler s work and it is therefore evident that she has played a large role in influencing my work to be what it is today. Not only has her technique influenced my work but I have further internalised the essence of what she really tries to portray in her artwork. In fact, without Lucy Keeler s influence on my work, I do not think that my artwork would have the same essence and presence as it does. Like any good piece of artwork, Keeler s work has managed to evoke emotion in me as the viewer and has lead to a processing of that emotion through the physical manifestation of those feelings that were transmitted through her work. This has allowed me to understand the power of visual beauty and has explained to me the importance thereof in a way that words cannot. Consequently, the influence of her work has left me reeling in awe and has given me momentum to explore new techniques and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Role Of Masculinity In Disney And Pixar Characterized to Be Emasculated Questioning the masculinity within male characters of Disney/Pixar, by watching their son s perspective on the film Cars, in Post Princess Models of Gender: The New Man in Disney/Pixar, Ken Gillam and Shannon R. Wooden examine multiple movies and point out that the leading male characters in Cars, Toy Story, and The Incredibles, are victims of emasculation. Prior to Disney/Pixar releasing nine movies, Disney conveyed all its main male characters to be alpha male (472). However, Pixar opened new types of characters, those that led to having the characters masculinity stripped by another supporting character in the film. The authors draw attention from the strong male model to the New Man (476) role. Gillam and Wooden focus on the main male characters in each of the movies who all start with a high machismo personality, which rapidly transitions into an effeminate identity. Buzz, Woody, Mr. Incredible, and Lighting McQueen all assumed they were going to achieve the alpha male (472) status, by isolating from their friends and family, and becoming agitated towards any forces that challenged their power. Each of these characters quickly realized the alpha male qualities were not going to help them achieve what was expected. The authors point out that the main emotions that the characters possess in the beginning of the movies is anger and frustration (474). Why did Disney originally limit the emotions that men can feel? On arrival, she is disoriented and agitated. Vital signs are 86/43, 119, 28, 39.8° C, SaO2 85% on room air. Laboratory data include WBC 1.2 thou/cmm, Hct 24.9%, Hgb 8.7 g/dl, platelets 125 thou/cmm. • 9. The House of Mirth and the Gilded Age Novelist Edith Wharton wrote her defining work, 1905 s the House of Mirth, on a subject she knew all too well: the style over substance realm of New York s upper crust society during the Gilded Age. Having been raised in this fashionable society, Wharton knew both its intricacies and cruelties firsthand. The triumphant rise and tragic fall of protagonist Lily Bart demonstrate both the sunshine and shadow of the Gilded Age. The House of Mirth not only exposes the reality of how the other half live, but also satirizes and condemns their elitist existence. Historians refer to the 1870s, 1880s, and 1890s as America s Gilded Age. This was essentially a time when stock market trading and industrial expansion widened the chasm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wharton never reveals whether or not Lily s death was intentional. Regardless, she is finally free of the chains of wealth and politics that bound her on Earth. Analyzing the characters in the House of Mirth also assists the reader in uncovering the author s intent. The only truly content character is Lawrence Selden, who is not rich, but is self sufficient and comfortable. Lily s incredible outer beauty cannot mask the internal suffering which she endures. This is Wharton s way of revealing the emptiness and greed behind the glittering exterior of elite society. The Dorsets, despite their fabulous wealth, are the most unhappy characters in the novel. Bertha is a cruel and bitter antagonist, and her husband is a lonely, pathetic old man. Edith Wharton spent her entire life rubbing elbows with the upper crust, yet still believed that money cannot buy happiness. The House of Mirth may be categorized as a novel of manners, a literary genre which explores the struggle of the individual in society, and most commonly, the way in which that struggle effects women and Lucas 4 marriage. This genre is meant to expose the absurdities of popular convention and encourage the reader to challenge the existing social edifice. • 15. Andromache In EuripidesTiger At The Gates Andromache vengefully curses Helen, calling her an evil incarnate, a curse on both barbarians and Greeks and one whose beautiful eyes brought ugly destruction to the noble fields of Phrygia (Euripides. TTW.781 783). As a female, soon to be slave of Greek enemy forces, she knows she can do no more than curse; at this point in the time, she must accept a fate of servitude or death. The word Andromache stems from ἀνήρ, man, and μάχομαι, to battle or dispute (Liddell). Her characteristics and actions in Tiger at the Gates appropriately reflect the apparent meaning of her name: one who fights or disputes with a man. In the beginning of the play, pro war and anti war sides are swiftly drawn in Troy, with the old men rallying for war and women calling for peace. Andromache is quick to establish her position, along with Hecuba, against war and against the men. Although she does not lead the anti war argument (it is Hector and Hecuba who do so), she calmly disputes with Priam in a logical manner, albeit sometimes snarky manner. She acknowledges Priam s fondness for women and so, asks him to listen to what they have to say. She follows this by judiciously asking how their country will be made stronger by sending the vigorous and brave men of Troy to their deaths (Giradoux 21 22). This interaction not only illustrates her wisdom and moral strength, but her desire for peace above all. She knows all too well the bitter tragedies and bleak destructions war will bring, as ... Essay The Improper Use of Patient Restraints The Improper Use of Patient Restraints Running head: PATIENT RESTRAINT PROTOCOLS Patient restraints have been a hot issue within the past ten to fifteen years in nursing. There have been numerous studies done on the adverse affects restraints have on patients, physiologically and psychologically. Anger, fear, impaired mobility, bladder and bowel incontinence, eating difficulty, skin breakdown, and nosocomial infections have all been associated with the use of restraints (Weeks, 1997; Janelli, 1995). Therefore, there has been a move to limit the use of restraints and develop safer protocols for the times that they are used. Many of the patients are at risk for falls due to neurological problems. There are at least two to three patients restrained on the unit on a daily basis. Some of the reasons nurses restrain patients are to prevent them from harming themselves or others, to help maintain treatment plans, and to control confused or agitated patients (Stratmann, Vinson, Magee and Hardin, 1997). The most frequently used restraints are vests, wrist, belts/ties, mitten and ankle, in that order (Stratmann et al., 1997). Many research studies currently taking place are focused towards discovering alternatives to restraints. Identifying successful alternatives to restraints and educating nurses about alternatives has helped in reducing the use of restraints (Winston, Morelli, Bramble, Friday and Sanders, 1999; Weeks, 1997). There are times, however, when restraints are needed to protect patients (Richman, 1998; Dibartolo, 1998). Restraints would be indicated for an intubated patient who keeps pulling out his endotracheal tube. In such cases, failing to use restraints could result in a claim or lawsuit being brought on for negligence (Richman, 1998). In 1992, the Food and Drug Administration issued a warning on restraints because of the nearly 300 deaths and injuries related to restraint use occurring each year (Janelli, 1995). Pardoners were originally called questors who gained the named Pardoner for their ability to pardon people of their sins(The Role of the Pardoner). A pardoner usually worked under the authority of a Bishop.
