Mental Disorder In Soldiers
Standing Down Being a member of the United States Armed Forces is one of the most dangerous jobs
in the world. These soldiers face many challenges and the chance of major harm befalling them on, at
times, on a daily basis. They are at risk of injuries that, while not unheard of amongst civilians are on
a completely different scale in terms of frequency and probability. Injuries such as: amputations,
shrapnel wounds, bullet wounds, severe burns, and PTSD are common.
The patients include: gunshot wound (GSW) to the stomach, partial amputations from a land mind,
open fractures secondary to GSW, head injury/ Struck by a tank, blast injuries, shrapnel injuries, and
dislocations (425).
Any of these wounds could put a soldier out of service if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
PTSD and other mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, survivor s guilt and many others are
incredibly commonplace in soldiers. Most soldiers suffer with at least a minor case of a mental
disorder. Who can blame them with the terrible things soldiers have to do and see in a wartime setting.
One trooper confides in me that he witnessed some Iraqi children get run over by a convoy. He was in
the convoy and the had strict orders not to stop. If a vehicle stops, it is isolated and an inviting target
for a rocket propelled grenade. He tells me that some women and children have been forced out onto
the road to break up the convoys so that the Iraqi irregulars can get a clear shot. But the convoys do
not stop. He tells me that dealing with that image is worse than the pain of his injury (425).
The worst part is that even though so many of our veterans suffer with these debilitating disorders,
very few every seek help for them. Even worse those who seek help don t always receive proper
treatment. Many suffer silently for the remainder of their lives because unlike a missing limb or a scar

Junot Diaz Crash Short Story
Junot Diaz Drown universe is one filled with insecurities that disturbs the closest relationship that the
different characters find themselves in. One of the main issues explored, addressed in the stories Fiesta
1980 , Aurora , and Drown , is how do your own insecurities affect your attitude in your inter personal
relationships? In these stories, the consequences of personal insecurities of the character s
relationships include conjugal violence, denial of adultery and possible denial of sexual orientation.
The first story that analyses the question of personal baggage affecting romantic relationship is Fiesta,
1980 . From what I conclude, Mami s biggest fear is to be alone, to not even have the possibility of
getting attention from Papi. Consequently, this fear of being alone pushes her to accept unreasonable
actions coming from her husband ranging from intimidating their children in pursuing a relationship
with another woman behind her back. Diaz criticizes the dependency of immigrant wife s to their
husband. Furthermore, in her eyes, her family is her sanctuary, henceforth she is willing to sacrifice
her unhappiness to protect her refuge. Diaz writes, Picturing her alone wasn t easy. It seemed like Papi
had always been with her, even when we were waiting in Santa Domingo for him to send for us. (
Fiesta, 1980 , 41). Demonstrating how destructive your insecurities can be to the growth of a healthy
relationship. I believe Diaz s is using the idea of a picture to

Coca Plant Research Paper
The social and health implications of the coca plant production are widely known, however, its impact
on the environment are insufficiently acknowledged by many. This essay will explore the
environmental implications of cocaine production and the eradication process that takes place in the
Andean/Amazonian regions, particularly in Colombia, Peru and Bolivia, where most of the world s
cocaine supply originate1.
Historically, coca leaves were chewed by the Andean people as a mild stimulant1. Cocaine is a
naturally occurring alkaloid1, derived from coca plant (Erythroxylum coca). Just like any other
stimulants, cocaine has a powerful effect on the central nervous system 1 causing sensations of
euphoria2 and is highly addictive. The money garnered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1987, Colombia only grew 10% of the global coca production (220 km2); in 2000 this percentage
increased to 74% (1633 km2)7. This boom in the cocaine production industry remarkably coincided
with the deforestation acceleration rate in the country7, suggesting that there must be a correlation
between the boom in the cocaine market, coca cultivation and deforestation. Figure 3 shows a result
from one such study conducted between 2002 to 2007 in Colombia.
Land needs to be cleared in the cultivation area to make way to sow coca plants9. Although it only
plays a minor role in deforestation, the fact that the illicit nature of the cultivation forces coca growers
to move to isolated, untouched areas harm the biodiversity and the animals who inhabit in the area that

The Importance Of Columbus Day
Several schools within the state of Michigan celebrate Columbus Day, a holiday honoring the man that
discovered the New World. However, Byron Center Public Schools does not. The question that has
been asked is whether we should start to celebrate the holiday, or continue not to. The answer is that
Byron Center should continue to not celebrate the holiday. Columbus day should not be celebrated
because of the negative effect his reign had on the Natives, he was not the first person to discover the
New World, and the damaging effect he had on biodiversity.
The main reason Columbus Day should not be celebrated is because of the negative effect Columbus
had on the Native people. Many sources of evidence have found that Columbus mistreated the Native
Americans. For instance, the Spanish wanted to convert the natives to the Catholic church; however,
the natives did not convert, so the Spanish resorted to violence to get what they wanted. After the
natives were conquered, the survivors were enslaved in the Encomiendas system. Encomiendas was
like slavery; the natives had to work without pay, and were not allowed to leave the land without
permission. Columbus and his men also raped, murdered, and committed genocide against the people.
Additionally, Columbus would force them to give him more gold than they even had, and ravaged
their land when they did not give it to him. He abused the natives in many ways, which is why
Columbus Day should not be celebrated.

Abolition Movement Essay
The Abolition Movement in the United States Three very impactful leaders enter the minds of every
American when discussing the abolition of slavery. Henry Highland Garnet, Wendell Phillips and the
man who funded it all, Gerrit Smith. These men were undoubtably the most hardworking and well
known voices of the abolition. The abolition movement began in the early 1830s and finally ended in
the 1870s. The objective of the movement was to instantly put an end to slavery, discrimination and
segregation against all African American people ( Abolitionist Movement). Henry Highland Garnet
and Wendell Phillips were both members of the American Anti slavery Society founded in 1833. This
society believed slavery was a sin that required immediate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He wanted every slave to know they did not deserve to be treated as they were. Neither god, nor
angels, or just men, command you to suffer for a single moment ( Garnet s Call to Rebellion ). He
wanted them to see the advantage slaves had over the white men. Garnet showed them just how much
the white man relied on his slaves, he showed them how much power they held in the white man s life.
He urged them to fight as hard as they could no matter what consequences they would face. Strike for
your lives and liberties. You cannot be more oppressed than you have been you cannot suffer greater
cruelties than you have already ( Garnet s Call to Rebellion ). He opened their eyes to the cruelties
they have already survived and assured them it could not possibly be made worse by fighting the
white men, it could only be made better. In 1850, Garnet flew to England and then to Scotland to
speak against the horror of slavery and participate in the Free produce movement. He encouraged
people to boycott slavery by rejecting any products produced by slave labor. Garnet then travelled to
Kingston, Jamaica in 1852 as a missionary and spent three years preaching against the savagery of
slavery. Garnet was making such a huge impact in the fight against slavery that he later became a
target for angered slave owners. During the Civil War, slave owners accused Garnet of being a radical

Night Father Son Relationship
New studies show that father son relationships affect grown men, and how they deal with stressful
situations on a day to day basis. (Tobin 1) Father and Son relationships are a crucial part of a person s
life and it shapes who the person will become; however, it is in the most strenuous circumstances that,
in order to survive, a strong father son relationship is vital. In Hamlet, a play by William Shakespeare

Everything I do in this house is to keep my father well. At the same time, I quail before the idea that
he could rebound into solid physical health. What keeps me sane is that his body s decline has

Figurative Language In The Bell Jar
Human Isolation
As the author of the book The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath s writing can be associated with her real life
struggles. Living as a woman in the 50 s, Sylvia s realities helped her paint a truthful picture of what it
was like to be a woman with depression during this time. Although her openness to express her real
life struggle through text was remarkable, this topic of mental health and depression was unheard of at
the time. Esther Greenwood, the main focus throughout The Bell Jar, resembled the life of Plath for
her unsteady and rebellious characteristics that often break the social conceptions of what it meant to
be a woman with depression. On page 96, Esther stands on top of a mountain with a colorful stream of
consciousness that is detailed and fervent as she considers skiing down the mountain. Plath uses
imagery and figurative language to convey her feelings of being out of control and absolutely isolated,
revealing how women during this time period were forced to keep their true thoughts and emotions to
themselves regardless of their mental condition. In this passage, Plath describes Buddy using two
different similes, showing how Esther s last resort disappears in front of her, leaving her completely
alone. As she stands atop the mountain, it seems as if her vision becomes progressively blurred. As the
other skiers around her become invisible, she noticed the actions Buddy takes in order to grab her
attention. His arms

Human Rights Of Mahatma Gandhi
Human Rights Mahatma Gandhi was arrested thirteen times during his lifetime, three of which were
for not holding a registration card. Cesar Chavez dropped out of school at age fourteen to work as a
migrant worker. Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head once and the shoulders twice for speaking out
for women s rights in Pakistan. These three activists all persevered through hard times to enact change
for human rights. Gandhi was a civil rights leader in India who began a revolution through non violent
protests, boycotts, and hunger strikes. According to Satyagraha: Gandhi s Legacy , Gandhi s work
inspired large scale global change. Resistance to British involvement in South Africa and in India
helped to inspire a movement of decolonization all over the world . This triggered a string of civil
rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr, Cesar Chavez, Malala Yousafzai, and Nelson Mandela.
Additionally, the author of Mahatma Gandhi: Father Of The Nation states, Mahatma Gandhi is revered
in India as the Father of the Nation (Singh). In light of this, the Constitution of Free India conferred
the title of Father of the Nation upon Gandhi. Moreover, the author of Mahatma Gandhi: Father of the
Nation asserts, Mahatma Gandhi crystallized about him the living forces of the soil (Singh). Gandhi
had such a big impact on the Indian revolution and Free India that his soul is embedded in the land
and he is seen as the father Free India and cemented peaceful protest as a mean for political change.
Cesar Chavez was a migrant worker who through the United Farm Workers labor union fought for
migrant workers rights in the United States. According to the Cesar Chavez Foundation, Under Cesar,
the UFW achieved unprecedented gains for farm workers, establishing it as the first successful farm
workers union in American history . Many of these gains include restrooms in the fields, safety
equipment, and the banning of a pesticide called DDT which causes cancer and damage to the liver
system. Furthermore, the Cesar Chavez Foundation asserts that, The coming years would bring much
more adversity: Strikes and boycotts, marches and fasts, victories and defeats . Cesar, like many other

Spinner Dolphins
Benoit Bird seek to investigate the acoustic communication of spinner dolphin, Stenella longirostris
during the foraging behaviour in cooperative groups. Acoustic communication of marine mammals,
especially in foraging behaviour occurred in the underwater were not clear because it is hard to detect
due to limited approaches in the last few decades.
Aims were stated in the introduction of this paper. Author were attempted to figure out what kind of
sounds will spinner dolphins produced during the foraging behaviour and what were the relationship
between these sounds and different stages of foraging behaviour. Hypotheses were also clearly stated
in both abstract and introduction in this paper. Benoit Bird hypothesized that the group social
communication of spinner dolphin during the foraging behaviour was mainly produced by a low
frequency acoustic, whistles while echolocation clicks in high frequency were more likely to detect
when they were trying to capture preys. These hypotheses were made by the used of information from
previous studies and thus they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second, they formed a tight line stage reducing their interpair spacing, and began to undulate their
swimming path up and down. During the third stage, spinner dolphins formed a circle surrounding the
preys after prey densities increased as to avoid dolphins. Last stage, each pair of dolphins had the
opportunity actively fed on the prey for about 10s inside the circle before taking the positions of other
pairs. In this study, two response variables can be found which were the whistles rates and
echolocation click rates. Both of these response variables were dependent on the foraging patterns as
different foraging patterns produced different rates and sound. Besides that, the whistle rates and
echolocation rates can also affected by water depth because sound can only detected within scattering

Sickle Cell Trait
Sickle Cell Trait (SCT) and Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) can be a serious problem for some people, but
at the same time, it can also be very beneficial to some people. Having SCT, means that you do not
have the disease, but are a carrier for the trait. People who have SCT are usually unaffected and live
normal lives. On the other hand, people who actually have SCD, can end up dying for having it, and
are forced to live irregular, difficult lives.
Sickle Cell Disease can be inherited from your parents. If both of the parents are carriers for Sickle
Cell, there is a 25% chance of having a child with SCD, a 50% chance of having a child with SCT,

Africa, is surrounded by water, and has a high population of mosquitoes everywhere. Malaria, a
disease that mosquitoes can carry is a deadly disease that can be hard to avoid in some circumstances.
There are so many people in Africa that have SCD and SCT, because people with the trait/disease, are
immune to malaria, which is a big benefit of having the trait/disease. With malaria not affecting the
people with SCD/SCT, they are able to keep reproducing and having kids that have the trait or disease.
This is why it seems that the places with malaria have such a high amount of people with SCD/SCT.
In conclusion, sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait have their advantages, but at the same time have
many other downfalls that come along with having one of the two. People with sickle cell disease
have hard lives, and have trouble doing everyday things like participating in a gym class, or doing any
type of sports or physical activity. Although, people with only sickle cell trait, have the ease of not
having to worry about malaria, but also run the risk of passing the disease to their children. Sickle cell

The Redwood Tree-Personal Narrative
I have hunted monsters in the depths of Lake Erie. I have searched for fairies in the Redwood Forest. I
have solved mysteries at the bottom of the ocean. No matter how different they may seem, all these
adventures have one common thread. My brother. When he was born the doctor said he would never
walk, talk, or read. Receiving this news broke my parents hearts. Even with this disastrous news they
set out to prove him wrong. They decided that they would provide him with every opportunity to
strive. By the time I was born, four years later, he could walk and talk like any other child and he still
continues to learn new skills to this day. When I was first born, my brother called me baby girl
because he was not able to pronounce my name. Wherever I was, that was where he was. I was his
favorite person. He would spend hours just staring at me in my crib waiting for me to do something.
After I learned to talk my brother and I had our own secret language. Even though it was actually

Summary Of People Make Choices
Kameron Jarvis
Mrs. Bowden
English Two Honors

People make Choices Introduction:
From 1941 to 1945, The Holocaust took place in many countries, and millions of people died. Adolf
Hitler came to power in 1933 in Germany, and had an Aryan Race which was the Nazi s idea of a
master race. They thought that people with blonde hair and blue eyes were perfect. Adolf Hitler
developed a plan called the Final Solution, which was to kill mostly Jewish people, but also anyone
who did not fit his standards. Hitler rounded up all of the people he disliked, and he placed them in
concentration camps and death camps. In these awful places, these prisoners got tortured not only
physically, but also mentally. In France, many Jews were being deported to Germany, however; there
was so many, that they had to stay in concentration camps in France. The survival rate in France was
higher than any country in Europe during the Holocaust. Two very similar people who made very
different choices were in France during the Holocaust. A priest named Andre Trocme made a good
choice to save many Jews, and a SS officer named Klaus Barbie made a bad choice to kill thousands
of Jews ( The Holocaust ).
1st body paragraph: Andre Trocme was born on April 7, 1901 in northern France. When he was a
child, he spoke his mind, and did whatever he felt like he needed to do, which led him to be an

Having any type of sympathy or empathy for an employee may be shown, but it will not be done in a

a highly successful organization. On the other hand, if an employer shows that they have some type of
heart when it comes to the concerns of their employees, they will have a lower turnover than other
organizations because employees will want to keep their jobs. Employment is still low but there are
those that will leave a job because of situations like these. The Nelson case shows that employers
cannot be so quick to terminate an employee simply because they request to use FMLA leave. This is
also a lesson for employees to learn from. If they are experiencing some issues, whether they are
business related or personal related, it should be communicated to their employer

Essay On Teaching Style
Introduction Teacher effectiveness has been an ongoing topic of interest among educational
researchers for many years, with considerable focus given to the specific traits and behaviors that are
believed to constitute effective teaching. There is no absolutely right or wrong method or technique to
teach, and teachers need to change their approach in different circumstances. Different teachers may
be required to use different teaching strategies and styles in the same situations due to the differences
in their teaching styles, personality types, and beliefs in teachers abilities in improving learners
achievement. Teaching style plays a vital role in the development of teachers professional expertise
(Akbari, Mirhassani, Bahri, 2005). It is always persistent with teachers personality type and varies
among individuals (Cooper, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many studies stress the effect of teaching style on learners achievements (Conti, 1985; Miglietti
Strange, 1998). Teaching style refers to a predilection toward teaching behavior and the congruence
between educators teaching behavior and teaching beliefs (Heimlich Norland, 1994, p.34). In fact,
teaching styles are reflections of a combination of teachers theoretical assumptions and actual teaching
practice. Jarvis (2004) provides a more vivid account of teaching style and believes that a style is the
totality of one s philosophy, beliefs, values, and behaviors, and it incorporates the full implementation
of this philosophy; it consists of substantiation and support of beliefs about values and attitudes
toward elements of the student learning and teacher learning exchange (p. 40). According to the results
of the mentioned studies about teaching styles, it is obvious that by being aware of these styles,
teachers can improve their effective teaching and their students learning by using the appropriate style

Bibliography: 16 Introduction Social media campaigns provide an insight into the competitive market
to improve the communication and the brand identity of an organisation (Keller, 2014). In the case of
the tourism industry, social media like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter help firms to expand their
brand reach by building a relationship with customers through an open conversation process
(Ammerman, 2015). A social media campaign helps the tourism industry to achieve more customer
satisfaction and loyalty. Considering the words of Ramaseshan and Stein (2014), it is essential for a
social media campaign to select a suitable social media platform for engaging the customers with the
right choice of messages. Therefore, a tactical plan for a social media campaign is going to be
developed for Shropshire Hills Tourism, UK. The tactical plan attempts to create potential leads by
developing a photography competition campaign on Facebook. 1.0 SMART objective Specific

Essay On The Vedic Age
The Vedic age in India started around 1500 BC with the arrival of Aryans, an Indo European tribe
from central Asia near the Caspian Sea. Aryans settled along the banks of the Indus and its tributaries
in the northern part of the subcontinent. Initially, it was a tribal society centered in northwest India and
by 1000 BC, it spread along the Gangetic plain with the development of modern agriculture. Aryans
dominated the local indigenous population and often ruled over them. Over time, the interbreeding
with the local residents led to the emergence of mixed culture. The Vedic age lasted from 1500 BC to
500 BC. Agriculture and cattle rearing were the main occupations of the people. The Vedas and
Upanishads were written during this period. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Buddhism emerged in the Magadha region of ancient India and rapidly became popular among the
masses. It opposed complex religious rituals and preached social equality. It spread rapidly in India
with support from the ruling class and also reached foreign countries such as China, Myanmar,
Thailand, Japan and Sri Lanka. Buddhism peaked in India around the 1st century AD and thereafter its
ideas got absorbed into Hinduism. Buddhism almost completely disappeared from India with the
arrival of Islamic rule around 12th century AD. Jainism preached non violence and believed in austere
practices and had huge support from the ruling class around 3rd and 4th century BC. It was extremely
popular in the merchant class and is still practised in parts of western India.
The rulers of the Nanda Empire had accumulated a huge amount of wealth due to exorbitant taxes and
consequently, became unpopular among the masses over time. In 326 BC, the northwest India was
attacked by Alexander the Great, the founder of the Macedonian Empire. Alexander faced stiff
resistance from the then ruler of Punjab, Porus. Alexander annexed Punjab after defeating Porus in a

Epicurus Empiricism
According to Epicurus, all things are experienced through sensation and once we die we no longer
experience anything as there is no sensation after death. Epicurus was an empiricist meaning, he
believed that knowledge comes from sense experience: Everything , good or bad, is experienced
through sensation of any outside factors with which we can physically encounter and any non physical
factors such as our thoughts and consciousness in our minds and souls (?)(p 1). When the body dies,
we therefore cannot experience any of the outside physical things through sensation. The soul is also
corporeal(material) as according to epicurus metaphysics of atomism and physicalism it consists of
tiny paticles and is spread all over the body . When the body

Uncle Tom s Cabin By Harriet Beecher Stowe
In Chapter 3 of Uncle Tom s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe, The historical point within the chapter
is Canada. George Harris, Eliza s husband, lives on a plantation where he is deprived everything he
has accomplished because of his master s jealousy, racism, and cruelty. He dreams of escaping to
Canada and starting a real life with his wife and son. Canada represented freedom for many Slaves in
this time period because even in the North it was dangerous to stay as a runaway slave. The fugitive
slave law, and many racists would haunt the minds of many blacks and was not a very pleasant
lifestyle to call freedom. Canada was truly free for blacks, and like Uncle Tom s Cabin, was a symbol
of freedom to many Blacks. 6. Is social, political, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The characters Stowe throws at the reader always leave a lasting impression, whether it is a young
innocent moral girl like Eva, or a ruthless slave owner like Simon Legree, Stowe institutes her beliefs
into a book that still reflects real life events in the 1840s and 50s. The most enjoyable parts of the
story are during Tom s days with Eva on the St. Clare s plantation. The saint like character that Eva
acts as rubs off on Tom. This is very enjoyable because both of these characters are extremely likable
and bond despite their completely different exteriors. In addition to this, the mischief of Cassy and
Emmeline to make Simon Legree believe that ghosts haunted his house was extremely comical. On
the contrary, Tom s extreme resilience and Jesus like qualities became annoying and unrealistic. The
willingness to die a martyr for slaves he did not even know, his stubbornness to not cooperate with
Simon, or his unwillingness to runaway from Simon s plantation was extremely annoying. The other
part of the book that was not very enjoyable was when St. Clare foreshadowed his death by saying that
he would eventually get around to signing Tom s freedom papers. He never actually got around to it
because he died before he could do it. This was especially annoying and extremely coincidental. All in
all the book was a great novel with great character development, but the bias, exaggeration, and

Pride And Prejudice Displacements
In my final paper I will argue that the displacement of social class appears in three way: gender role,
marriage and places. The displacement plays a major role in the novel because it encourages people in
society break the restrictions and achieve the life they want. First of all, at that time, women s
behaviors are absolutely important, and their sole purpose in life is to find a husband, reproduce and
then spend the rest of their lives serving him. Nevertheless, Elizabeth believes that women have the
right to be the independent until they meet the right man. She looks for a man without paying attention
to his wealth and goes against her mother s belief, which is the displacement of her obligation as a
child. In addition, Jane Austen uses love to reveal how the characters overcome numerous obstacles. ...

Marriage is an issue in society; however, the characters do not care about their social class and they
struggle to find their true love. For instance, throughout the novel, Elizabeth and Mr. Bingley displace
their ideals and class in order to be together. Last but not least, some particular places in Pride and
Prejudice express a displacement of character s moral as well. Pemberley, which is a geographic
symbol of the novel, makes Elizabeth see Mr. Darcy s true character through his home. Elizabeth
learns that Mr. Darcy is a kind master to his servants and is solicitous for the well being of his little
sister. He keeps his estate well maintained and is obviously a dutiful and responsible guardian of his
familial property. It is undeniable that her displacement from Longbourn to Pemberley marks not only
a rise in her social position, but an advance in her moral growth as

Flip Flops Research Paper
Have you ever been tempted to purchase a $.99 pair of foam flip flops? That trivial amount you spend
on foot wear could result in costing you thousands of dollars. Flip flops, unlike cowboy boots do not
have arch supports. Wearing flip flops, since they do not have arch supports, cause your feet to
become flat, and flat feet leads to back complications which can cost thousands of dollars in
treatments. An excellent alternative to flip flops are cowboy boots, yes I know what you are thinking,
but I am not a cowboy, well that is true, but you do not need to be a cowboy to wear cowboy boots.
Cowboy boots are stylish, comfortable, durable, and healthy for your back. If you have big feet you

Advantages Of Pecking Order Theory
2.3 Pecking Order Theory
2.3.1 Introduction of pecking order theory Pecking order theory which is also known as pecking order
model is one of the theories in the capital structure of a firm. According to Cotei, Farhat, and Abugri
(2011), the pecking order theory is based on the idea of asymmetric information between the managers
and investors. Asymmetric information indicates that the managers of the firms or companies know
more about their companies prospects, risks and values than the investors. Brealey, Myers and Allen
(2014) mentioned that the asymmetric information will affect the choice between internal and external
financing as well as between new issues of debt and equity.

According to Hall et al., (2000) and Schmid (2001) (as cited in Paul et al., 2007, p. 10), they found out
that at the stage of development, businesses are informationally opaque which means the information
is not transparent to public. At the same time, the start up firm s assets are often intangible and
knowledge based. So, if compared to the opportunities in the public companies, investors in the start
up work with less historic performance data on which investment judgements can be based. Again, the
researches mentioned that the firms prefer internal to external finance when the external funds are
necessary. It can be clearly understood that the firm prefer debt to equity finance. This hierarchy stems
from information asymmetry between managers and investors with the results that, in attempting to
raise external capital, investors will face an adverse selection problem and demand a premium that
raises the required rate of return on external capital. At this point, the firms are definitely better off
with the internally generated funds. The overall impact of information asymmetry is that external
financing may carry a substantial investment premium (Jovanovic, 1982; Storey, 1994 as cited in Paul
et al., 2007, p. 11). So, debt is preferable to equity finance due to the less risky

Swot Analysis of Network Rail Essay
SWOT Analysis Strengths: Network Rail took over ownership by buying Railtrack plc, which was in
railway administration, from the Railtrack Group plc for £500 million in 2002. Railtrack had become
subject to broad based and persistent criticism, notably over cost escalations and delays with the West
Coast Main Line modernisation and the circumstances surrounding accidents at Southall (1997),
Ladbroke Grove (1999) and Hatfield (2000). After these incidents Railtrack s cost spiralled out of
control, to remedy this situation which would ultimately lend to the company collapsing and being

Why Is William Kidd Alive
William Kidd
England in the 18th century, pirates were alive, and the british empire was expanding. There were
many new techniques that were brought in from immigrants that increased the productivity. Many
pirates sailed the waters in search for treasures.
Scotland 1654, William Kidd was born. Little did his parents know how big his future would be.
William grew up to be a pirate, Kidd and his crew set sail around England in the 1700 s. Kidd and his
crew attacked the Quedagh Merchant, a large American ship located on the Indian Ocean, he found
out he was on the wrong side of the british government. He was later hanged in London, 1707. Before
Kidd died he kept a journal about his life. I do not care so much for the death of my gunner, as for
other passages of my voyage, for i have good friends in England who will bring me off for that. Kidd

Over time he has gained way more popularity. Due to the treasure and his signal he has gained so
much popularity.
I think Kidd made a bad decision robbing the ship because it got him killed. If i were alive then or a
pirate then i would have not robbed the ship. If Kidd was alive now he probably wouldn t do a pirate,
due to the fact there aren t many pirates now days. If he lived in America then they wouldn t have
been able to rob the sip because they would be inlined with the American government.
In the book, the main character was a cabin boy while in real life Kidd was the captain. Kidd was very
famous and many people favored him. He was nice to everyone who was nice to him. The book and
Kidds life are kind of similar because they both sailed on ships. They both had a big crew, but in the
novel the pirates and british betrayed eachother while in real life Kidd and his crew worked together.
William Kidd was great pirate who died because of a dumb mistake he

The Status of Women in the Work Force After the Fall of Communism in Eastern Europe
The fall of communism in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union marked the end of an era in
which official ideology and state policy often masked the reality of citizens lives. This contradiction
was particularly acute for women, a group that the Soviet model of communism was intended to
emancipate (Basu, 1995; Bystydzienski, 1992; Corrin, 1992; Einhorn, 1993; Millarand and Wolchik,
1994; Nelson and Chowdhury, 1994; Rueshchemeyer, 1994). Under the guise of Marxist Leninist
ideology, women were accorded an equal right to work and to participate in the building of socialism.

Women consequently suffered from feelings of exhaustion, guilt, and inadequacy towards their
children, not to mention low levels of career satisfaction.
Western scholars and observers hailed the transition toward democracy as a liberating force for
women living under communist rule. These changes, however, have not automatically brought an
expansion of rights and opportunities for women. In fact alarming trends emerging throughout the post
communist region reveal that women stand to lose many of the rights to which they were formerly
accustomed. Women are not well represented in the new democratic political structures. And, in
demonstrating their opposition to Communist policies, new democratic leaders are passing legislation
which curtails reproductive rights and removes many of the social safety nets that women and children
have come to rely upon. At the same time, increasing unemployment has led enterprises to shed labor
and women have usually been the first to go (Commander and Coricelli, 1994; Corrin, 1992; Einhorn,
1993; Nelson and Chowdhury, 1994; Rueschemeyer, 1994; Scheppele, 1995; Slay, 1994).
The present research is concerned with this reevaluation of woman as worker in the post communist
countries. Are some countries better able to maintain female participation in the work force? Are
women leaving the work force voluntarily or are they being pushed? And, what are the determinants
of the relative participation of women in the work

Essay on Naturalism and Realism
Beginning in the late 19th century, two separate movements spread across America know as realism
and naturalism. While the two were very similar in their beliefs and ideals there were still many
apparent distinctions to differentiate the two. Realism and naturalism showed themselves in many
aspects of life, from art and sciences to new math techniques and even religion. However, above all
else these movements may have been most evident in the literature of this time. Reading through
American literature of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it becomes perceptible which short
stories portray realism and which represent nationalism. Mark Twain s humorous tale, The Notorious
Jumping Frog of Calaveras Country, clearly shows Twain s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As Bierce explains, The man who was engaged in being hanged was apparently about thirty five years
of age. He was a civilian, if one might judge from his habit, which was a planter. An attention to
specific details is given especially in Part I when the setting is being described. Countless adjectives
are used, giving the reader the understanding of the scene so that they can feel as if they are sitting in
and watching everything mentioned take place. Again, diction is used although not in the same way as
Twain had used it. Instead, a type of southern slang is used, denoting people from the North as Yanks
and to flax as tow. Finally, the last part of this story is made up on the lead character s daydream
which shows that Bierce was focusing on the psychology of the character, another very realist thing to
do in literature. Stephen Crane s ideas varied from those of Twain and Ambrose as shown in his short
story, The Open Boat. In the story, the crewmates of a diminutive boat are caught in a storm. This is
clearly more depressing than the stories of the other two authors cited but it also sanctions nature to
play a substantial role. In naturalism, nature often acts as a force that humanity cannot control. The
storm represents Crane s belief in

The Effects Of Television On Children s Decision Of...
What would you do if you were to find out, that just by watching an advertisement on television, it can
lead you to drug problems, health issues, or even death? With this, alcohol distributors poison the
mind of the young and make them believe that drinking can really bring all the pleasures portrayed in
the advertisements, like the beach parties, celebrations, and fun at sporting events Alcohol, that may
be consumed, has been a very important aspect of the world. Many people enjoy being able to have
the feeling you receive when they do drink any form of alcohol. Alcohol advertising influences not
only adults but teens and children who are too young to purchase it. Parents have a large impact on
children s decision to drink, but marketing also has a greater impact on the children s decision of
underage drinking. Not only is the consumption bad for children, but it is also unhealthy for adults.
Alcohol advertisements are advertising a person to kill themselves, because the consumption of
alcohol will not end on a happy note. Alcohol companies spends so much money advertising their
product through television, that almost every person in america watches. Alcohol companies see the
money in youth and continue to advertise it to gain more control on the youth. Alcohol companies
target the youth to drink it. They also see people they look up to such as role models that may drink
alcohol which makes them think it is okay for them to drink. Advertising alcohol should not be

Southern Slavery And Its Impact On American Society
During early 19th century, the entrenchment of Southern slavery, there was discussion between
planters who benefitted from it and abolitionists who fought against it. Most Americans, especially
those in Southern states, understood that slavery system could not help parting from their economic
and social system. Southern slavery system brought big economical benefits. However, it negatively
influenced American society as a whole rather that positively. Southern economy was the center of
plantation that cultivated cotton. Many the rich started to carve the plantation to earn money by
exporting cotton. They needed a lot of labor and slavery was proper to use. The majority of white
southerners did not own slaves because planters monopolized the best land. They could not help
taking possession of the land that was not proper to cultivate cotton. Most of them earned a living by
self sufficiency even though the slave population was growing: from 697,624 in 1790 to 3,953,760 in
1860.
Southern slavery was based on paternalism to justify the brutal reality of slavery, in which
slaveholding gentlemen took personal responsibility for the physical and moral well being of their
dependents women, children, and slaves. The slave owner demanded unquestioning obedience from
their dependents and intended to make them perfectly dependent to the white man. Most planters lived
on their plantation with compelling strict order. Without the owner s permission, slaves

  • 3. Mental Disorder In Soldiers Standing Down Being a member of the United States Armed Forces is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. These soldiers face many challenges and the chance of major harm befalling them on, at times, on a daily basis. They are at risk of injuries that, while not unheard of amongst civilians are on a completely different scale in terms of frequency and probability. Injuries such as: amputations, shrapnel wounds, bullet wounds, severe burns, and PTSD are common. The patients include: gunshot wound (GSW) to the stomach, partial amputations from a land mind, open fractures secondary to GSW, head injury/ Struck by a tank, blast injuries, shrapnel injuries, and dislocations (425). Any of these wounds could put a soldier out of service if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... PTSD and other mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, survivor s guilt and many others are incredibly commonplace in soldiers. Most soldiers suffer with at least a minor case of a mental disorder. Who can blame them with the terrible things soldiers have to do and see in a wartime setting. One trooper confides in me that he witnessed some Iraqi children get run over by a convoy. He was in the convoy and the had strict orders not to stop. If a vehicle stops, it is isolated and an inviting target for a rocket propelled grenade. He tells me that some women and children have been forced out onto the road to break up the convoys so that the Iraqi irregulars can get a clear shot. But the convoys do not stop. He tells me that dealing with that image is worse than the pain of his injury (425). The worst part is that even though so many of our veterans suffer with these debilitating disorders, very few every seek help for them. Even worse those who seek help don t always receive proper treatment. Many suffer silently for the remainder of their lives because unlike a missing limb or a scar these wounds are ... • 4. Junot Diaz Crash Short Story Junot Diaz Drown universe is one filled with insecurities that disturbs the closest relationship that the different characters find themselves in. One of the main issues explored, addressed in the stories Fiesta 1980 , Aurora , and Drown , is how do your own insecurities affect your attitude in your inter personal relationships? In these stories, the consequences of personal insecurities of the character s relationships include conjugal violence, denial of adultery and possible denial of sexual orientation. The first story that analyses the question of personal baggage affecting romantic relationship is Fiesta, 1980 . From what I conclude, Mami s biggest fear is to be alone, to not even have the possibility of getting attention from Papi. Consequently, this fear of being alone pushes her to accept unreasonable actions coming from her husband ranging from intimidating their children in pursuing a relationship with another woman behind her back. Diaz criticizes the dependency of immigrant wife s to their husband. Furthermore, in her eyes, her family is her sanctuary, henceforth she is willing to sacrifice her unhappiness to protect her refuge. Diaz writes, Picturing her alone wasn t easy. It seemed like Papi had always been with her, even when we were waiting in Santa Domingo for him to send for us. ( Fiesta, 1980 , 41). Demonstrating how destructive your insecurities can be to the growth of a healthy relationship. I believe Diaz s is using the idea of a picture to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Coca Plant Research Paper The social and health implications of the coca plant production are widely known, however, its impact on the environment are insufficiently acknowledged by many. This essay will explore the environmental implications of cocaine production and the eradication process that takes place in the Andean/Amazonian regions, particularly in Colombia, Peru and Bolivia, where most of the world s cocaine supply originate1. Historically, coca leaves were chewed by the Andean people as a mild stimulant1. Cocaine is a naturally occurring alkaloid1, derived from coca plant (Erythroxylum coca). Just like any other stimulants, cocaine has a powerful effect on the central nervous system 1 causing sensations of euphoria2 and is highly addictive. The money garnered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1987, Colombia only grew 10% of the global coca production (220 km2); in 2000 this percentage increased to 74% (1633 km2)7. This boom in the cocaine production industry remarkably coincided with the deforestation acceleration rate in the country7, suggesting that there must be a correlation between the boom in the cocaine market, coca cultivation and deforestation. Figure 3 shows a result from one such study conducted between 2002 to 2007 in Colombia. Land needs to be cleared in the cultivation area to make way to sow coca plants9. Although it only plays a minor role in deforestation, the fact that the illicit nature of the cultivation forces coca growers to move to isolated, untouched areas harm the biodiversity and the animals who inhabit in the area that would otherwise be left ... • 6. The Importance Of Columbus Day Several schools within the state of Michigan celebrate Columbus Day, a holiday honoring the man that discovered the New World. However, Byron Center Public Schools does not. The question that has been asked is whether we should start to celebrate the holiday, or continue not to. The answer is that Byron Center should continue to not celebrate the holiday. Columbus day should not be celebrated because of the negative effect his reign had on the Natives, he was not the first person to discover the New World, and the damaging effect he had on biodiversity. The main reason Columbus Day should not be celebrated is because of the negative effect Columbus had on the Native people. Many sources of evidence have found that Columbus mistreated the Native Americans. For instance, the Spanish wanted to convert the natives to the Catholic church; however, the natives did not convert, so the Spanish resorted to violence to get what they wanted. After the natives were conquered, the survivors were enslaved in the Encomiendas system. Encomiendas was like slavery; the natives had to work without pay, and were not allowed to leave the land without permission. Columbus and his men also raped, murdered, and committed genocide against the people. Additionally, Columbus would force them to give him more gold than they even had, and ravaged their land when they did not give it to him. He abused the natives in many ways, which is why Columbus Day should not be celebrated. Columbus is most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The abolition movement began in the early 1830s and finally ended in the 1870s. The objective of the movement was to instantly put an end to slavery, discrimination and segregation against all African American people ( Abolitionist Movement). He urged them to fight as hard as they could no matter what consequences they would face. Strike for your lives and liberties. You cannot be more oppressed than you have been you cannot suffer greater cruelties than you have already ( Garnet s Call to Rebellion ). He opened their eyes to the cruelties they have already survived and assured them it could not possibly be made worse by fighting the white men, it could only be made better. In 1850, Garnet flew to England and then to Scotland to speak against the horror of slavery and participate in the Free produce movement. He encouraged people to boycott slavery by rejecting any products produced by slave labor. Garnet then travelled to Kingston, Jamaica in 1852 as a missionary and spent three years preaching against the savagery of slavery. • 9. Figurative Language In The Bell Jar Human Isolation As the author of the book The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath s writing can be associated with her real life struggles. Living as a woman in the 50 s, Sylvia s realities helped her paint a truthful picture of what it was like to be a woman with depression during this time. Although her openness to express her real life struggle through text was remarkable, this topic of mental health and depression was unheard of at the time. Esther Greenwood, the main focus throughout The Bell Jar, resembled the life of Plath for her unsteady and rebellious characteristics that often break the social conceptions of what it meant to be a woman with depression. On page 96, Esther stands on top of a mountain with a colorful stream of consciousness that is detailed and fervent as she considers skiing down the mountain. Plath uses imagery and figurative language to convey her feelings of being out of control and absolutely isolated, revealing how women during this time period were forced to keep their true thoughts and emotions to themselves regardless of their mental condition. In this passage, Plath describes Buddy using two different similes, showing how Esther s last resort disappears in front of her, leaving her completely alone. As she stands atop the mountain, it seems as if her vision becomes progressively blurred. As the other skiers around her become invisible, she noticed the actions Buddy takes in order to grab her attention. His arms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summary Of People Make Choices Kameron Jarvis Mrs. Bowden English Two Honors 17 March 2016 People make Choices Introduction: From 1941 to 1945, The Holocaust took place in many countries, and millions of people died. Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933 in Germany, and had an Aryan Race which was the Nazi s idea of a master race. They thought that people with blonde hair and blue eyes were perfect. Adolf Hitler developed a plan called the Final Solution, which was to kill mostly Jewish people, but also anyone who did not fit his standards. Hitler rounded up all of the people he disliked, and he placed them in concentration camps and death camps. In these awful places, these prisoners got tortured not only physically, but also mentally. There is no absolutely right or wrong method or technique to teach, and teachers need to change their approach in different circumstances. Different teachers may be required to use different teaching strategies and styles in the same situations due to the differences in their teaching styles, personality types, and beliefs in teachers abilities in improving learners achievement. Many studies stress the effect of teaching style on learners achievements (Conti, 1985; Miglietti Strange, 1998). In fact, teaching styles are reflections of a combination of teachers theoretical assumptions and actual teaching practice. Jarvis (2004) provides a more vivid account of teaching style and believes that a style is the totality of one s philosophy, beliefs, values, and behaviors, and it incorporates the full implementation of this philosophy; it consists of substantiation and support of beliefs about values and attitudes toward elements of the student learning and teacher learning exchange (p. 40). According to Cotei, Farhat, and Abugri (2011), the pecking order theory is based on the idea of asymmetric information between the managers and investors. Asymmetric information indicates that the managers of the firms or companies know more about their companies prospects, risks and values than the investors. At the same time, the start up firm s assets are often intangible and knowledge based. So, if compared to the opportunities in the public companies, investors in the start up work with less historic performance data on which investment judgements can be based. Again, the researches mentioned that the firms prefer internal to external finance when the external funds are necessary. It can be clearly understood that the firm prefer debt to equity finance. This hierarchy stems from information asymmetry between managers and investors with the results that, in attempting to raise external capital, investors will face an adverse selection problem and demand a premium that raises the required rate of return on external capital. At this point, the firms are definitely better off with the internally generated funds. The overall impact of information asymmetry is that external financing may carry a substantial investment premium (Jovanovic, 1982; Storey, 1994 as cited in Paul et al., 2007, p. 11).
