Life of Maxamillian Robespierre
Maximilien Robespierre declared at the trial of King Louis XVI. The King must die so that the nation
can live. Robespierre advocated the kings demise and with it the ways of the Ancien Régime.
However, in an ironic twist of fate his words also foreshadowed his own rise and fall as the leader of
the French Revolution. Known as The Incorruptible , or alternately Dictateur Sanguinaire Robespierre
is a monumental figure of the French Revolution, but which was he? Was he the incorruptible
revolutionist fighting to overthrow the Ancien Regime or a raging radical that implemented his own
absolute tendencies under the cover of the revolution? When dissecting the dichotomy of Robespierre
s life and actions during the French Revolution and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another characteristic of Absolutism is that of the subjugation of the church. While previous absolute
rulers either appointed the clergy or became the head of the church Robespierre took a different
direction by forming his own religion. The Cult of the Supreme Being was developed by Robespierre
based on a radical concept of deist beliefs, but with the addition of the quest for virtue and civic duty
as well as emphasizing reason. Robespierre stated that his religion would banish all the ridiculous
phantoms that the ambitions of priest and the politics of kings have commanded us to obey in the
name of heaven. On May 7, 1794 Robespierre introduced the Cult of the Supreme Being to the
National Convention and on June 8 the Festival of the Supreme Being was held to inaugurate the new
state religion. The former catholic state was banned. With the adoption of this new religion the
Catholic Church lost any remaining power they had on a political level, lowering them to a never
before seen powerless in France. Not only did this new radical religion revoke the power of the
Catholic Church, but all that power was imbued into the leader of this new religion, Robespierre
himself. He church wasn t the only body that was reduced to a powerless state during this time, but the
nobility as well.
The subjugation of the nobility is an important trait of

A More Beautiful Question
Inquiry is the power of investigation and the ability to look at different situations and aspects of life
differently. By exploring the novel A More Beautiful Question: The Power of Inquiry to Spark
Breakthrough Ideas by Warren Berger this summer provided me and other incoming students an
introduction to the new course provided by Quinnipiac, First Year Seminar (FYS), that explores
education through inquiry based learning. We explore the power of inquiry through four different
perspectives the arts and humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. Together we seek the
ability to find, and benefit from diversity of thought, involvement, and outlook.

It is an expansion that stretches across history and time. Without any current form of stereotypes,
people could possibly challenge themselves more to the task at hand and create an improved
environment where people can truly question and explore more in the world. Exploring the mental
processes and the pressures society places on stereotyping makes me to look for the qualitative factors
that provides people such thoughts. Could it be how someone lives, a social normalcy, or something
based of a geographical aspect? It also mostly based on the human nature and past history.
Stereotyping has been around since before America was discovered by Columbus or the Vikings. It
would be interesting to explore the evolution and development of these topics and see how there could

The Pros And Cons Of The New York Diet
The New York Diet is quickly gaining popularity in a world where fad diets overpower the concept of
good nutrition and exercise. David Kirsch, a celebrity trainer, has recently developed the New York
diet. This is a fairly strict diet based on the emphasis of eating and living a low carbohydrate lifestyle.
The New York diet is based heavily around the concept of cutting sugar and non essential fats out of
one s diet. This diet tries to completely cut all sweets such as soda, candy, sugar, and even fruit. It also
targets unhealthy beverages such as alcohol and coffee. Another emphasis, that may be puzzling to
some, is the complete elimination of Dairy foods, such as milk, cheese, and yogurt in most cases.
There are a variety of pros and cons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In early and mid adulthood, many adults need to begin thinking about their brain health and ways in
which we can make natural improvements with diet, exercise, and other healthy lifestyle choices. If
you have a family history of disorders associated with low levels of dopamine, you may want to
consider how you can naturally increase dopamine levels in your own body to help improve your
aging outcomes. As a neurotransmitter in the brain, dopamine is vital to our memory, cognitive
function, and even to our voluntary movement capabilities. While we can not directly increase
dopamine naturally, there are specific steps we can take to help our bodies boost the production of
dopamine more effectively. Eating foods, for example, that are rich in tyrosine is one way in which we
help to provide our bodies with the precursors need to naturally create dopamine for use in the days
and weeks to come. If are looking for ways in which to naturally increase dopamine levels in your
body, consider eating diets that are right in meats, cheese, and even in soy based products as all of
these foods contain high levels of tyrosine that will provide your body with the foundation on which to
boost dopamine levels. Of course, if you have food intolerance to any of these items, and especially if
you suffer from contraindicated health conditions, then do not make these consumptions unless you
have discussed them first with your primary

The Birth Of Structured Products
The birth of structured products:
Structured products were introduced in the mid 1980s. At that time the economy was characterized by
high interest rates and volatility, therefore there was a growing demand for instruments that could
hedge against one or more risks and that could give to the greediest investors exposure to markets that
they could not enter into by themselves.
Because of the recent history and wide variety of structured products, no standard definition exists. In
general they are defined as financial instruments with cash flows that depend on the value or
performance of underlying assets or embedded derivatives (Bennett, 2013, p.19). Their three main
characteristics are:
They derive their rating from the quality of the collateral;
Their credit rating is enhanced with respect to the underlying assets thanks to their prioritization
scheme of claims;
They are sold through a separate legal entity. (Fabozzi, Lancaster, Schultz, 2008)
Therefore securitization is the process by which illiquid assets (such as a pool of loans) are
transformed into liquid instruments to be sold on capital markets (debt securities).
The securitization process:
To issue a structured product, a financial institution first collects a large number of assets, usually
credit sensitive, and assembles them in a portfolio, outsourced to a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).
The aim of this outsourcing is the isolation of the institution s balance sheet from potential liabilities

Integrated Reporting And An Understanding Of A Company s...
Integrated Reporting is a more holistic approach to gaining an understanding of a company s
performance. It takes into consideration factors including the environment, society and governance
when evaluating a company s performance and strategizing on a future course of action. One of the
most recent and promising developments in Integrated Reporting has been the release of the Integrated
International Reporting Framework by the International Integrated Reporting Council. This paper
assesses the opportunities, benefits, challenges and limitations of this framework.
Introduction
The Integrated International Reporting Framework was introduced by the International Integrated
Reporting Council (IIRC) to guide the entire integrated reporting process and also to clearly define
key ideas and concepts of this framework. Given some of the confusion surrounding this framework
among companies and accountants in New Zealand with respect to what precisely the Integrated IR
Framework is and how it might affect accounting practice, this essay purports to clearly explain the
framework. Further, this paper will also critically examine the framework, highlighting some of the
salient opportunities, benefits, challenges and limitations of this approach. Finally, it will briefly
reflect upon the implication of the framework for accounting practice.

Chicken Soup Rough Draft
Chicken Soup Rough Draft
Kids on my block always loved to play outside. Growing up we always knew each other. We
cherished the times we would spend with each other. Whether it being on the Scorching hot days of
Summer, the chilly days of Fall, Or the rainy days of Spring. We would be on that street hanging out
and spend time with each other.
Spending so much time with each we had also noticed growing up that one of our friends has old stuff.
We noticed that every now and then when any of us would receive something new from our parents,
we would of course show it off to one another. Also remembering that our friend never really had
anything to show off to us. I could understand the situation, with the family being poverty stricken.

Why College Is Not Worth It Analysis
As you graduate high school you begin to think about whether to go to college or not. A huge number
of people believe that college isn t worth your time or your money. In my opinion, education after
high school is absolutely worth your time and money. There are many reasons why you should go to
college. Some reasons are, you can earn money and another is that you have a greater chance of
getting a good and decent job. In this essay I will discuss the value of college and why it is important.
College may seem not seem like the best path in life but when it comes to reality, it is. One reason to
prove my claim is, that you can earn more money after finishing college. According to the article,

According to the article, New school year, old story: Education pays , it shows the difference between
the types of jobs you can have if you go to college or not. For example, if you go to college, you will
have a better chance of getting a life changing job. If you don t go to college or graduate college, it is
less likely of you to get the job you want or the job that has a good profit for you. Even though college
does sound so great, it will lead you to a successful life in the future. Someone who went to college
might say that it was their best years of their life, and others might say that they dreaded the fact of
college. College is in fact very expensive. Many people who don t go to college usually don t have the
money to go and at the same time, don t earn the education they need. According to the article, why is
college so expensive it states, As the government s budget changed, so did the University s funding.
This shows why college is majorly expensive because as the budget of the government changes, the

Project Proposal INTRODUCTION
Topic and Purpose
This proposal identifies the need for a document, which will propose and develop reasons why a for
profit transportation service for Kent should be perused. This service should be considered because of
the recent parking and commuting problems both on and off campus.
There have been many reasons why on campus parking has become difficult in recent years. Increased
student enrollment at Kent State University has posed many problems. The parking lots cannot
facilitate the growing need for vehicle parking. Campus officials have undertaken construction
projects to curb the parking problem, but these renovations have closed lots in the near term. Also, the

Introducing America s New Family
Introducing America s New Family: The Bundy s American television today has drastically changed
from the first appearance of the television in the 1920s. Currently, television is nothing but sitcoms
poking jokes at the disabled, the LGBT community adapting to the American family standard, and
even late night television poking fun at our 2016 Presidential candidates.1950s television depicted
America s heterosexual, patriarchal society in which an ideal and acceptable family consisted of a
generous working class father, an accommodating and good natured mother, and a few respectful
children. Whereas 1950s American television required the audience to accept television families
without question, American networks today understand that times are changing and just like mass
communication, adapting to the millennial generation of technology is a must for television families to
appeal to the growing masses. But when did television families first start to step away from the
cultural ideals of its time? From the 1920s through the 1960s television upheld the Father Knows Best
standard of television with shows such as Father Knows Best and I Love Lucy. Well, fast forward 30
years, and in came the Bundy s. The Bundy s were television s first dysfunctional, on screen family to
undermine the idea that an ideal family must function perfectly all the time. Married with Children

Good Country People Wise
Books may teach us many lessons, but real life experience is what makes people wise. Being smart is
not the same as being wise. A person can be smart, he or she can have many degrees and diplomas, but
unless he or she have experience life, they will not be wise. Flannery O Connor s Good Country
People shows that people can be well educated and not be wise. Joy and Mrs. Hopewell think that they
have the world figured out, but when they encounter Manley Pointer, a simple country boy , they will
finally see the world as it is: manipulative and more complex than they ever imagine. Mrs. Hopewell
believes she is wise by being so accepting of others, but she does not realise that she is neglecting the
person that needs her acceptance the most, Joy. Joy thinks she is wise and smart for attending college.
She looks down with disdain at other people but what she does not realise is that she might be smart
but she is not wise. Both Mrs. Hopewell and Joy are tricked by Manley Pointer, the bible salesman,
due to their extreme blindness to their surroundings. Even though Mrs. Hopewell loves her daughter,
she is blind to Joy s need for acceptance. Mrs. Hopewell does not understand that Joy is content with
the way she is, therefore Mrs. Hopewell is alway trying to get Joy to smile and be pleasant. This gets
on Joy s nerves and makes her crave acceptance even more. ...[W]hen Joy had to impressed for these

Punk Ethos Research Paper
One of the major underlying conventions of punk music is that it tends to reject an association with
the mainstream. Punk rock is an all encompassing out of the ordinary form of music. It goes against
mainstream ideals in every possible way, from its grungy sound to the off putting lyrics and influential
ethos. Anti Flag s lyrics, message and political/social influences are a perfect example of what the 21st
century punk ethos is and means. According to Merriam Webster, ethos is the distinguishing character,
sentiment, or moral nature, or guiding beliefs of a person, group, or institution. Punk ethos is the
notion in which a group of musicians can guide a group of listeners to become empowered, involved,
and entrenched in the ideas and values that a musical group sets forth. Anti Flag is a master of
influence. The punk band was extremely successful from their start at getting their message across. In
doing so, they voiced strong anti war and anti capitalism messages ... Show more content on

While popular music is and was increasingly focused on higher profits and competing for popularity,
Anti Flag focuses on bringing important issues to light and giving a voice to those who feel betrayed
by the government and society as a whole. The name Anti Flag came about when other bands in the
punk scene were touting the slogan freedom not fascism and wearing American flags on their jackets.
Justin Sane explained that those bands idea seemed great but they weren t following through with their
message. So when the band began using the name Anti Flag they felt that it could say a lot about the
punk rock community. Their thinking was that fans would not be able to treat their music as
entertainment, but that their music would force listeners to think for themselves, whether they agreed
or not. The whole point of the name was to show that there was a fundamental set of ideas behind the

Political Philosophy And Political Science
As centuries have passed, political thought has undergone constant development and together with its
development are changes. These changes had a tremendous effect in the discipline. Political
philosophy continued to progress which affected both political theory and political science. It seems
that with the progression of political philosophy, there was a growing need for the the discipline to
become more scientific. They wanted it to be based on facts, to become value free and to be precise.
Political philosophy started veering away from the classics. Despite the continuous need to be
scientific, there were still groups which remained inclined to the classics and believed that the
traditions and values are essential in studying the discipline. These conflicting views concerning the
traditionalists and the behavioralists caused the gap between political philosophy and political science
and eventually the two separated. So it seems that as political philosophy progress, political science
branched outside the academe and political theory, as it grew larger became more and more alienated.

practices of politics without methods of science since they were rejecting it, instead they preferred to

Conquest Of Australia
Since the age of long established kingdoms, the strong communities would conquer weaker nations
and rule over them with an iron fist. The conquerors would often suppress the original inhabitants of
the land, by forcing them into slavery, harsh treatment and even, taking of children and young girls for
pleasure. The conquered residents would live in fear, oppression, and ill treatment in their ancestral
land. The modern era, brought about a different mode of the conquering of kingdoms, with the same
devastating effects of inhumane treatment and suffering of the indigenous persons. Accordingly, over
90% of the global nations are victims of the colonization, and likewise, Australia did not escape the

The role of engineers is to improve the quality of the lives of the people, by the formulation of
technical solutions to issues facing the society. Although the prevalence of the engineering works with
physical artifacts, the majority of the work lies within the intellectual domain. Further, engineers offer
technical possibilities, which work to optimize the social, environmental consequences and
opportunities to the society. The hallmark of a professional engineer is to apply and make informed,
sustainable and responsible decisions. Engineers ought to uphold and own the impositions and the
consequences within considerable ethical limits of the possibilities produced. Therefore, prerequisite
understanding of what the community has encountered in the past and continued to endure formulates
the basics within which an individual should approach particular instances. The history of the
treatment of aboriginals in Australia expresses the rationale and the manner in which an engineer
should interact and make decisions about the indigenous people. Engineers should have the ability to
discern the particular setting of the people, before the imposition of ideas and proposals to the local
communities, and principally, the aboriginals. Engineers ought to understand the implications of their
actions and impactions, as well as aim to rectify the problems and issues. Engineers should build on
their critical competencies of comprehension, conceptually based understanding, and discernment as
well as knowledge. The vital skills of engineers often allude to the theoretical knowledge on how
engineers ought to conduct the affairs. However, engineers should have the ability to understand the

Joseph Stalin led in taking over Russia, in Animal Farm, Napoleon takes over the farm from the owner
Mr. Jones. When Napoleon assumes responsibility of running the farm he changes the farm name to
Animal Farm , this signifies the rebellion and the Revolution. With Napoleon in charge the former
communist ruled farm changes to a socialist society where all the animals work together and attain the
same amount of food and resources. This is what Stalin tried to create before returning to a communist
society. By the end of the novel, Napoleon also goes back to communist rule which represents the idea
that socialistic societies or utopian societies do not always work. At Animal Farm , Napoleon had nine
loyal attack dogs similar to the secret police Stalin used to carry out his commands. Snowball, another
pig at Animal Farm , represents Leon Trotsky, who was able to win the loyalty of the other animals
similar to the way Trotsky was able to win over people in Russia too. In Russia, the working class
people were represented by Boxer a cart horse who works hard and trusts the pigs to make decisions

Affirmative Action in the Workplace

Affirmative action in this time and place is a very hard area to keep in place when it comes to keeping
jobs even at work for the employees. Sometimes this type of equality in the working world can be
good and sometimes it can be bad, but it depends on how it is used that really makes how a person can
feel when it comes to this type of treatment of employees no matter what color or sex a person is
during this time period. If you take a look at what might be good about this type of action where I

So to me that is not the right way to judge someone just because they are not the right sex for a job.
There is one Bible verse that I have found that kind of deals with affirmative action in places and that
is Acts 6:13 which says, Now, in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint
by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily
distribution. And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, It is not right that we
should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. Therefore, brothers, pick out from among
you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty.
(Holy Bible , NKJV) No employees, not matter what color, sex, or race should be treated unfairly in a
work place. It is not the fair thing and to me you should not have to put any type of action in place to
make people see what s right and wrong when it comes to hiring someone for a job in this society
today. I know there are people who do not treat others fairly, but they should have to be the ones who
have to follow a rule, and not the ones who are treating everyone equal.

Argumentative Essay On Donald Trump
While Liu chooses his ten main ten things to be mostly politics, I will do almost the same. The most
important person in America is always the president, so naturally, I will include Donald Trump on my
list. Secondly, along the lines of politics will be Net Neutrality. I don t have a strong opinion on it
myself, but I do believe it is essential to know the ins and outs of it due to how important the internet
is. The third topic will be pure politics. Hirsh did not include the simple word of politics, so I will add
it myself. The fourth will be Elon Musk, a tech giant. Finally is video games, which is something dear
to my heart, and also ingrained in most of society. This should be learned by any American or soon to
be American due to their importance on America s culture.
Donald Trump, America s current president. He didn t come to power easily. But that is what makes
him so important. Trump s biggest feature was that he was never politically correct, and still is not to
this day. Many people saw this as a good thing to have in a president. He wouldn t be pushed aside by
some foreign country. Trump is also different from the previous president in that he was a large
businessman, he was a billionaire. This means he s probably well versed in the political side of
businesses. However, with this, he also lacks the knowledge of being a politician. He never held an
office anywhere else. He only shares this with five other presidents. Everyone should know how

persecution and their motives in involving themselves in the Armenian situation and the, but also their
rationale behind forming a relationship with the Ottoman Empire that began in the 1890s. In March of
2007, Dr. Margaret Lavinia Anderson, a Professor Emerita of History at the University of California,
Berkeley, published an article in The Journal of Modern History, entitled Down in Turkey, far away :
Human Rights, the Armenian Massacres, and Orientalism in Wilhelmine Germany. In this article,
Anderson examines the development of diplomatic relations between Germany and Turkey and, more
specifically, why Germany became interested in the Near East, their motives, and, later, their alliance.
She argues that Germany was mainly focused on developing a strong, influential relationship with the
Ottoman Empire during the Wilhelmine era. An alliance with the Turks would be a joint cooperative
effort to strengthen and modernize the failing Ottoman military and ensure safe passage into
neighboring British colonies for the Germans, still trying to extend their influence beyond the
Ottoman Empire eastward. The Germans sought to accomplish this and create a strong coalition by
adopting a compliant attitude towards Armenian persecution and reiterating the Turkish rhetoric and
belief that the Armenians were getting what they deserved.
Anderson asserts that, in the age of Imperialism and

Vitamin C Lab Report
Introduction
Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is a well known supplement that is essential to the human body. Vitamin
C helps grow and repair body tissue, make collagen, heal wounds, and strengthen bones and teeth.
Unfortunately, the body does not produce this vitamin itself, therefore it must be obtained from
another source. Vitamin C is present in significant amounts in both fruits and vegetables. These foods
are commonly pasteurized a process that applies heat to destroy pathogens that cause spoilage in food.
Pasteurization is great for preserving foods, but its effects on the food s contents are important to
consider. This process could affect the levels of ascorbic acid in the foods being consumed for their
vitamin C content. Specifically, orange juice, one of the most popular sources of vitamin C, is going to
be used to examine the effects of pasteurization on ascorbic acid levels in this experiment.
Hypothesis Rationale: Pasteurization decreases the natural level of vitamin C in orange juice because
the heat may cause the chemical bonds in ascorbic acid to break down and disband.
Materials and Methods
Orange Juice Materials: Three oranges were used for this experiment to obtain a decent amount of
juice. Each orange was cut in half and juiced according to steps 1 and 2 of Appendix I of the
Laboratory Manual for Biology 201 (Denniston, Wimmers, Hemm 2015). The juice from the first
orange and one half of the second orange was strained into a small beaker following

The Growing Of Evil In John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
The tone of East of Eden is nostalgic. Steinbeck writes about his childhood with fond memories of a
better time. He often accounts his favorite memories of his youth and describes them to be simpler
times that he still longs for. The tone is most apparent as Steinbeck describes the setting and his family
members. The mood of East of Eden is hopeful. Although Steinbeck depicts the follies of man through
the retelling of the creation story, he displays that man has the choice to choose good. Just as man can
recover from his fall in Genesis, so too can the major characters of East of Eden. The reader sees the
faults in man but feels that good may enable man to overcome them.
V. SYMBOLISM The darkening of Cathy Ames scar represents the growing of evil. Throughout her
whole childhood, Cathy escaped punishment through deception and manipulation. It is not until her
boyfriend discovers her true intentions and desire to steal his money that Cathy will first be punished.
He unsuccessfully tries to kill Cathy, leaving her with a scar on her forehead. As Cathy s crimes
become more complex and rooted deeper in evil, the scar darkens, And both of them remarked about
how sometimes it was darker than other times (212). When first meeting Cathy, characters feel an
uncomfortable strange feeling in her soul and then remark on the peculiar scar. The scar exhibits
Cathy s true nature and ever growing evil. The character Abra represents purity and woman as she
should be. Cathy and

Summary Of Keegan s Battle Of The Somme
In his description of the Battle of the Somme, Keegan provides a critical analysis of the strategy and
the motivations behind the battle. After the prolonged butchery of the French at Verdun, Joffre and
Haig agreed that a new offensive at the Somme would have to being sooner rather than later (Keegan
216). Keegan relates that the Allied plan for the offensive consisted of a week long artillery
bombardment followed by a barrage, which consisted of infantry movement behind a line of more
artillery. Keegan relates that the main goals of the first bombardment were to cut German
communications lines and halt German movement, preventing the Germans from preparing before the
Allied infantry was nearly on top of them. The Allied forces believed that ... Show more content on

However, after the British began to advance, it became clear that the devastation of the German side
was only superficial. Many British troops found immediate German resistance upon leaving their
trenches. Though the plan had not followed through, Keegan describes that the British forces
continued their advance. Keegan explains that this seemingly illogical press by the British was the
result of the interplay of multiple factors. Keegan expresses his belief that one major cause of the
continued advance was the composition of the Kitchener armies. The British forces contained an
unusually large number of volunteers as a part of its army. These men were mostly unexperienced and
often undersized and unprepared physically, although Keegan maintains that these men were part of a
strong patriotic movement that provided them with mood of self sacrifice (261). Keegan believes that
this attitude, coupled with the usual military sense of commitment to a plan even while sustaining
heavy casualties, led the men to press onwards (261). Keegan also cites a lack of communication and
communication technologies as a source of the continued advance. However, Keegan does not expand
much on the effect that the inexperience of

Hp Has An Edge On Human Resource
Since 1939 set up by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard, HP has provided worldwide customers personal
computers, computer peripherals, and date and Internet services. The company became the No.1 PC
manufacturer in 2007 and held the first rank for several years. Currently, HP is still one of the leading
companies in the computer manufacturing industry. In 2014, HP reports a net revenue of 111.5 billion,
decreased by 1% from 112.3 billion of 2013. HP s four main businesses, which are personal systems,
printing, enterprise group, and enterprise service, account for 96.4% of the total net revenue (See
Appendix I). SWOT Strength Compared with other competitors, HP has an edge on human resource
(Enderle, 2013). Wright, McMahan and McWilliams (1994) stated that human resources always were
a potential source of sustained competitive advantage, if they were valuable, rare, inimitable, and non
substitutable. Technically, the CHRO of HP uses human resource matric analysis and HR science in
management. In practice, human resource is viewed as a strategic resource, not just a kind of
equipment that can be sold and bought. Being respected and well treated, employees in HP hold a
relatively higher loyalty. According to Enderle (2013), HP is enjoying some of the lowest employee
turnover number in the industry. Low turnover rate on workers of production lines means that HP can
save money on recruiting and training and that skilled workers guarantee a high level of productivity.

Behavioral Intervention Program Models in Autism
Application Exercise 5: Summary of an Applied Behavior Analytic Journal Article
I) Introduction
a) What are the main reasons why the authors decided to conduct this study? How did they justify
what they did?
Parent training is an important part of behavioral interventions for children with developmental
disabilities and challenging behaviors. It is also important that all individuals in the child s daily life
implements the behavioral treatment plan correctly and consistently in order to benefit the most. With
the greatest outcome in mind, what is a cost effective way making sure the desired outcome is
accomplished?

No matter how hard we work with the child in the clinic, if there is going to be real and lasting
improvement it needs to be generalized into the child s other settings. We try to involve parents in
process and offer training through parent workshops that take place every few months and one on one
parent trainings at the clinic. If the pyramidal train the trainer procedure is an effective method for
training the child s caregivers it could play a large role in our parent training process. If we can
effectively train all the primary caregivers in the life of the child, then it is more likely that the
treatment plan will be generalized to the child s other settings.
II) Methods
a) Describe the participants and setting (location, physical arrangements)
The study consisted of three children and their caregivers. The participants were Sam a 4 year old boy,
Myron an 11 year old boy, and Robin a 7 year old girl. For each child a primary caregiver was
selected, and then they selected two additional secondary caregivers. Each of these caregivers would
participate in training sessions, which were conducted in the children s homes. The training sessions
with Sam s caregivers were conducted in his bedroom, training sessions with Myron s caregivers were
conducted in the living room, and training sessions with Robin s caregivers were conducted in the
kitchen, all of which contained a table and chairs.

Jack Kerouac s On the Road and Allen Ginsberg s Howl
Works Cited
It was a 1951 TIME cover story, which dubbed the Beats a Silent Generation, that led to Allen
Ginsberg s retort in his poem America, in which he vocalises a frustration at this loss of self
importance. The fifties Beat Generation, notably through Jack Kerouac s On the Road and Allen
Ginsberg s Howl #61482; as will here be discussed, fought to revitalise individuality and revolutionise
their censored society which seemed to produce everything for the masses at the expense of the
individual s creative and intellectual potential. Indeed, as John Clellon Holmes once noted: TIME
magazine called them the Silent Generation, but this may have been because TIME was not ... Show

Williams theory therefore suggests that the terms must necessarily co exist in order to define each
other. The pervasiveness of consent therefore characterises the fifties, against which these Beat texts
can be contrasted. Theodore Roszak s 1969 article The Making of a Counterculture, helps define beat
ideology as heightened self expression and often a rejection of political and authoritative institutions...
a negative spirit of the times coupled with a specific lifestyle . Both On the Road and Howl and their
author s lifestyles of their writers reflect this criterion, in idiomatic and contextual terms, lending to
the notion that they are, by the overall nature of their existence, countercultural texts. Roszak s
adolescent counterculture often seems the embodiment of Dean and Sal s beatitude in On the Road
when they pulse to music...value what is raunchy... flare against authority, seek new experience, but it
is similarly descriptive of the naked, sometime vulgar language Ginsberg employs in Howl who bit
detectives in the neck... let themselves be fucked in the ass. (13) The Beats admire the vibrancy
naturally present among youth, and although this is a style for which their writing has been criticised,
it is a move away from the traditionally

Tobias Smollett s The Adventures Of Peregrine Pickle
In the passage from The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle the author Tobias Smollett uses dialogue,
syntax and word choice to convey the complexities of emotions and social propriety. Firstly, word
choice is an important tool Smollet uses. This technique is important because it helps set apart the
passage from other narratives. The use of repetition emphasizes the indignation of the two men
arguing. His use of this tool can be noted throughout the first passage, lines 1 through 23, with the
repeated phrases sir and gentlemen . With each emphasis the tension increases between the two men
and the struggle between their anger and their respectable reputations is shown. Smollett s use of
formal, and old fashioned phrases as well as narrative help represent a respectful tone, even as they
both wish to fight the other. The usage of this tool creates a dance between the two, in which they are
waiting for the other to make a move in order to make one of their own. An example of this technique
is in lines 13 through 10. Shown in the dialogue between the two characters in which Godfrey and
Pickle are arguing, Smollett wrote replied the soldier... and the youth. The formal explanation of the
characters makes them impersonal, which then makes them seem very similar to ... Show more

With each outburst, the emotions are increasing and Smollet shows this by abruptly ending each
character, making them seem to talk over one another leading to a shouting match. Multiple examples
can be found within the first paragraph such as dare not apply that term to me? you are mistaken ( line
17 to 18) . Another key factor is how the passage seems to be written in third person which creates an
atmosphere of a spectator looking in on a fight about to unfold. Smollett s use of this helps give a view
that by itself has no opinion on the scene, but together still being able to feel the emotion that the
characters are going

The Epic Of Beowulf And The Song Of Roland
The epics of Beowulf and The Song of Roland were written down within a few hundred years of one
another, however, their subject matter and scope differ vastly. Beowulf, set in Scandinavia, contains
the exploits of the hero Beowulf and his life as he grows from a thane of Geatland to a king of his
people. The events of Beowulf span many years and entail his fighting of several different creatures.
Throughout the epic, Beowulf and many of the characters around him exhibit a heroic code that details
the standard of behavior and thoughts one should have in order to be a hero in that world. Similarly,
The Song of Roland, which is set in the late 700s, revolves around another exemplary hero in Count
Roland, a great knight of Emperor Charles, who is fighting in Spain for the seventh year with the rest
of Charlemagne s army. As with Beowulf, The Song of Roland expresses ideas pertaining to the
concepts of a heroic code and what it means to be and become a great warrior and king. While both
epics were written fairly close to one another in history, the origins of the pair are vastly different and
both concern themselves with similar themes and features, but do so in wholly different ways.
Beowulf is an epic that is large in scale and scope in terms of both time and space. Early on within the
tale, the reader is introduced to the great hero and namesake of the story, Beowulf. He is a man above
men and exemplifies what it means to be a great hero within his time. Predominantly,

Identifying The Unknown Bacteria From A Mixed Culture
Identification of Enterobacter Aerogenes
Annie Banh
November 15, 2014
Jason Atkins
Unknown #19
The purpose of this study is to identify an unknown bacterium from a mixed culture. We identified the
unknown bacteria through different biochemical tests and identified the many metabolic capabilities of
the bacteria. Studying and discovering unknown bacteria is very important in the health field as it may
lead to new medicines and innovations for current, existing diseases as well as any upcoming diseases.
The discovery of unknown bacteria is very useful in the pharmaceutical industry, as most of the
products prepared are made based on these unknown organisms.
The biochemical tests used to identify the unknown bacteria included: phenol red broth test (glucose,
lactose, and sucrose), methyl red and Voges Proskauer test, citrate test, indole test, H2S production
test, urea test and motility test. The PR broths are used to differentiate members of Enterobacteriaceae
and to distinguish these members from other gram negative rods. The PR broths are useful in
determining a bacterium s fermentation abilities. If the bacterium is able to utilize the carbohydrate,
then the acid production from fermentation lowers pH, which in turn turns the broth yellow. However,
if the bacterium is unable to utilize the carbohydrate, but does utilize the peptone, which produces the
by product ammonia, the medium will have a rise in pH turning the broth pink.
The methyl red and Voges Proskauer tests

Sports-Related Injuries
There are many strategies that parents and children can use to try to prevent sports related injuries
among youth athletes. They can condition, the athlete does not specialize in one sport at the same
position, and they can understand the fundamentals of the game. Those are a few ways how injuries
can be prevented. Here is more insight on how those strategies can prevent injuries. First, the young
athletes can condition. According to When Safety Is The Name of the Game being out of shape, which
is a real problem for many kids, increases the risk of injury. The athletes that only play one sport need
to start preparing before their season arrives. If an athlete is in shape and has been working out, it will
reduce the risk of injuries.

  • 2. Life of Maxamillian Robespierre Maximilien Robespierre declared at the trial of King Louis XVI. The King must die so that the nation can live. Robespierre advocated the kings demise and with it the ways of the Ancien Régime. However, in an ironic twist of fate his words also foreshadowed his own rise and fall as the leader of the French Revolution. Known as The Incorruptible , or alternately Dictateur Sanguinaire Robespierre is a monumental figure of the French Revolution, but which was he? Was he the incorruptible revolutionist fighting to overthrow the Ancien Regime or a raging radical that implemented his own absolute tendencies under the cover of the revolution? When dissecting the dichotomy of Robespierre s life and actions during the French Revolution and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another characteristic of Absolutism is that of the subjugation of the church. While previous absolute rulers either appointed the clergy or became the head of the church Robespierre took a different direction by forming his own religion. The Cult of the Supreme Being was developed by Robespierre based on a radical concept of deist beliefs, but with the addition of the quest for virtue and civic duty as well as emphasizing reason. Robespierre stated that his religion would banish all the ridiculous phantoms that the ambitions of priest and the politics of kings have commanded us to obey in the name of heaven. On May 7, 1794 Robespierre introduced the Cult of the Supreme Being to the National Convention and on June 8 the Festival of the Supreme Being was held to inaugurate the new state religion. The former catholic state was banned. With the adoption of this new religion the Catholic Church lost any remaining power they had on a political level, lowering them to a never before seen powerless in France. Not only did this new radical religion revoke the power of the Catholic Church, but all that power was imbued into the leader of this new religion, Robespierre himself. He church wasn t the only body that was reduced to a powerless state during this time, but the nobility as well. The subjugation of the nobility is an important trait of ... By exploring the novel A More Beautiful Question: The Power of Inquiry to Spark Breakthrough Ideas by Warren Berger this summer provided me and other incoming students an introduction to the new course provided by Quinnipiac, First Year Seminar (FYS), that explores education through inquiry based learning. We explore the power of inquiry through four different perspectives the arts and humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. • 4. The Pros And Cons Of The New York Diet The New York Diet is quickly gaining popularity in a world where fad diets overpower the concept of good nutrition and exercise. David Kirsch, a celebrity trainer, has recently developed the New York diet. This is a fairly strict diet based on the emphasis of eating and living a low carbohydrate lifestyle. The New York diet is based heavily around the concept of cutting sugar and non essential fats out of one s diet. This diet tries to completely cut all sweets such as soda, candy, sugar, and even fruit. It also targets unhealthy beverages such as alcohol and coffee. Another emphasis, that may be puzzling to some, is the complete elimination of Dairy foods, such as milk, cheese, and yogurt in most cases. There are a variety of pros and cons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In early and mid adulthood, many adults need to begin thinking about their brain health and ways in which we can make natural improvements with diet, exercise, and other healthy lifestyle choices. If you have a family history of disorders associated with low levels of dopamine, you may want to consider how you can naturally increase dopamine levels in your own body to help improve your aging outcomes. As a neurotransmitter in the brain, dopamine is vital to our memory, cognitive function, and even to our voluntary movement capabilities. While we can not directly increase dopamine naturally, there are specific steps we can take to help our bodies boost the production of dopamine more effectively. Eating foods, for example, that are rich in tyrosine is one way in which we help to provide our bodies with the precursors need to naturally create dopamine for use in the days and weeks to come. If are looking for ways in which to naturally increase dopamine levels in your body, consider eating diets that are right in meats, cheese, and even in soy based products as all of these foods contain high levels of tyrosine that will provide your body with the foundation on which to boost dopamine levels. Of course, if you have food intolerance to any of these items, and especially if you suffer from contraindicated health conditions, then do not make these consumptions unless you have discussed them first with your primary ... • 5. The Birth Of Structured Products The birth of structured products: Structured products were introduced in the mid 1980s. At that time the economy was characterized by high interest rates and volatility, therefore there was a growing demand for instruments that could hedge against one or more risks and that could give to the greediest investors exposure to markets that they could not enter into by themselves. Because of the recent history and wide variety of structured products, no standard definition exists. In general they are defined as financial instruments with cash flows that depend on the value or performance of underlying assets or embedded derivatives (Bennett, 2013, p.19). Their three main characteristics are: They derive their rating from the quality of the collateral; Their credit rating is enhanced with respect to the underlying assets thanks to their prioritization scheme of claims; They are sold through a separate legal entity. (Fabozzi, Lancaster, Schultz, 2008) Therefore securitization is the process by which illiquid assets (such as a pool of loans) are transformed into liquid instruments to be sold on capital markets (debt securities). The securitization process: To issue a structured product, a financial institution first collects a large number of assets, usually credit sensitive, and assembles them in a portfolio, outsourced to a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV). The aim of this outsourcing is the isolation of the institution s balance sheet from potential liabilities and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Integrated Reporting And An Understanding Of A Company s... Integrated Reporting is a more holistic approach to gaining an understanding of a company s performance. It takes into consideration factors including the environment, society and governance when evaluating a company s performance and strategizing on a future course of action. One of the most recent and promising developments in Integrated Reporting has been the release of the Integrated International Reporting Framework by the International Integrated Reporting Council. This paper assesses the opportunities, benefits, challenges and limitations of this framework. Introduction The Integrated International Reporting Framework was introduced by the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) to guide the entire integrated reporting process and also to clearly define key ideas and concepts of this framework. Given some of the confusion surrounding this framework among companies and accountants in New Zealand with respect to what precisely the Integrated IR Framework is and how it might affect accounting practice, this essay purports to clearly explain the framework. Further, this paper will also critically examine the framework, highlighting some of the salient opportunities, benefits, challenges and limitations of this approach. Finally, it will briefly reflect upon the implication of the framework for accounting practice. • 11. Introducing America s New Family Introducing America s New Family: The Bundy s American television today has drastically changed from the first appearance of the television in the 1920s. Currently, television is nothing but sitcoms poking jokes at the disabled, the LGBT community adapting to the American family standard, and even late night television poking fun at our 2016 Presidential candidates.1950s television depicted America s heterosexual, patriarchal society in which an ideal and acceptable family consisted of a generous working class father, an accommodating and good natured mother, and a few respectful children. Whereas 1950s American television required the audience to accept television families without question, American networks today understand that times are changing and just like mass communication, adapting to the millennial generation of technology is a must for television families to appeal to the growing masses. But when did television families first start to step away from the cultural ideals of its time? From the 1920s through the 1960s television upheld the Father Knows Best standard of television with shows such as Father Knows Best and I Love Lucy. Well, fast forward 30 years, and in came the Bundy s. A person can be smart, he or she can have many degrees and diplomas, but unless he or she have experience life, they will not be wise. Flannery O Connor s Good Country People shows that people can be well educated and not be wise. Joy and Mrs. Hopewell think that they have the world figured out, but when they encounter Manley Pointer, a simple country boy , they will finally see the world as it is: manipulative and more complex than they ever imagine. Mrs. Hopewell believes she is wise by being so accepting of others, but she does not realise that she is neglecting the person that needs her acceptance the most, Joy. Joy thinks she is wise and smart for attending college. She looks down with disdain at other people but what she does not realise is that she might be smart but she is not wise. Both Mrs. Hopewell and Joy are tricked by Manley Pointer, the bible salesman, due to their extreme blindness to their surroundings. Even though Mrs. Hopewell loves her daughter, she is blind to Joy s need for acceptance. Mrs. Hopewell does not understand that Joy is content with the way she is, therefore Mrs. Hopewell is alway trying to get Joy to smile and be pleasant. • 13. Punk Ethos Research Paper One of the major underlying conventions of punk music is that it tends to reject an association with the mainstream. Punk rock is an all encompassing out of the ordinary form of music. It goes against mainstream ideals in every possible way, from its grungy sound to the off putting lyrics and influential ethos. Anti Flag s lyrics, message and political/social influences are a perfect example of what the 21st century punk ethos is and means. According to Merriam Webster, ethos is the distinguishing character, sentiment, or moral nature, or guiding beliefs of a person, group, or institution. Punk ethos is the notion in which a group of musicians can guide a group of listeners to become empowered, involved, and entrenched in the ideas and values that a musical group sets forth. Justin Sane explained that those bands idea seemed great but they weren t following through with their message. So when the band began using the name Anti Flag they felt that it could say a lot about the punk rock community. • 14. Political Philosophy And Political Science As centuries have passed, political thought has undergone constant development and together with its development are changes. These changes had a tremendous effect in the discipline. Political philosophy continued to progress which affected both political theory and political science. It seems that with the progression of political philosophy, there was a growing need for the the discipline to become more scientific. They wanted it to be based on facts, to become value free and to be precise. Political philosophy started veering away from the classics. Despite the continuous need to be scientific, there were still groups which remained inclined to the classics and believed that the traditions and values are essential in studying the discipline. These conflicting views concerning the traditionalists and the behavioralists caused the gap between political philosophy and political science and eventually the two separated. So it seems that as political philosophy progress, political science branched outside the academe and political theory, as it grew larger became more and more alienated. In order to explain ... The conquerors would often suppress the original inhabitants of the land, by forcing them into slavery, harsh treatment and even, taking of children and young girls for pleasure. The conquered residents would live in fear, oppression, and ill treatment in their ancestral land. The modern era, brought about a different mode of the conquering of kingdoms, with the same devastating effects of inhumane treatment and suffering of the indigenous persons. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Joseph Stalin led in taking over Russia, in Animal Farm, Napoleon takes over the farm from the owner Mr. Jones. When Napoleon assumes responsibility of running the farm he changes the farm name to Animal Farm , this signifies the rebellion and the Revolution. With Napoleon in charge the former communist ruled farm changes to a socialist society where all the animals work together and attain the same amount of food and resources. This is what Stalin tried to create before returning to a communist society. By the end of the novel, Napoleon also goes back to communist rule which represents the idea that socialistic societies or utopian societies do not always work. At Animal Farm , Napoleon had nine loyal attack dogs similar to the secret police Stalin used to carry out his commands. Snowball, another pig at Animal Farm , represents Leon Trotsky, who was able to win the loyalty of the other animals similar to the way Trotsky was able to win over people in Russia too. In Russia, the working class people were represented by Boxer a cart horse who works hard and trusts the pigs to make decisions for him. Affirmative Action in the Workplace Affirmative Action in the Workplace Negative and Positive Rebecca Mikell Human Resources BUS362 Affirmative action in this time and place is a very hard area to keep in place when it comes to keeping jobs even at work for the employees. Sometimes this type of equality in the working world can be good and sometimes it can be bad, but it depends on how it is used that really makes how a person can feel when it comes to this type of treatment of employees no matter what color or sex a person is during this time period. There is one Bible verse that I have found that kind of deals with affirmative action in places and that is Acts 6:13 which says, Now, in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. I don t have a strong opinion on it myself, but I do believe it is essential to know the ins and outs of it due to how important the internet is. The third topic will be pure politics. The Role Of Diplomatic Relations Between Germany And Turkey However, many historians have debated not only Germany s role in the severity of Armenian persecution and their motives in involving themselves in the Armenian situation and the, but also their rationale behind forming a relationship with the Ottoman Empire that began in the 1890s. In March of 2007, Dr. Margaret Lavinia Anderson, a Professor Emerita of History at the University of California, Berkeley, published an article in The Journal of Modern History, entitled Down in Turkey, far away : Human Rights, the Armenian Massacres, and Orientalism in Wilhelmine Germany. In this article, Anderson examines the development of diplomatic relations between Germany and Turkey and, more specifically, why Germany became interested in the Near East, their motives, and, later, their alliance. She argues that Germany was mainly focused on developing a strong, influential relationship with the Ottoman Empire during the Wilhelmine era. An alliance with the Turks would be a joint cooperative effort to strengthen and modernize the failing Ottoman military and ensure safe passage into neighboring British colonies for the Germans, still trying to extend their influence beyond the Ottoman Empire eastward. The Germans sought to accomplish this and create a strong coalition by adopting a compliant attitude towards Armenian persecution and reiterating the Turkish rhetoric and belief that the Armenians were getting what they deserved. • 23. Vitamin C Lab Report Introduction Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is a well known supplement that is essential to the human body. Vitamin C helps grow and repair body tissue, make collagen, heal wounds, and strengthen bones and teeth. Unfortunately, the body does not produce this vitamin itself, therefore it must be obtained from another source. Vitamin C is present in significant amounts in both fruits and vegetables. These foods are commonly pasteurized a process that applies heat to destroy pathogens that cause spoilage in food. Pasteurization is great for preserving foods, but its effects on the food s contents are important to consider. This process could affect the levels of ascorbic acid in the foods being consumed for their vitamin C content. Specifically, orange juice, one of the most popular sources of vitamin C, is going to be used to examine the effects of pasteurization on ascorbic acid levels in this experiment. Hypothesis Rationale: Pasteurization decreases the natural level of vitamin C in orange juice because the heat may cause the chemical bonds in ascorbic acid to break down and disband. Materials and Methods Orange Juice Materials: Three oranges were used for this experiment to obtain a decent amount of juice. Each orange was cut in half and juiced according to steps 1 and 2 of Appendix I of the Laboratory Manual for Biology 201 (Denniston, Wimmers, Hemm 2015). He often accounts his favorite memories of his youth and describes them to be simpler times that he still longs for. The tone is most apparent as Steinbeck describes the setting and his family members. The mood of East of Eden is hopeful. Although Steinbeck depicts the follies of man through the retelling of the creation story, he displays that man has the choice to choose good. Just as man can recover from his fall in Genesis, so too can the major characters of East of Eden. The reader sees the faults in man but feels that good may enable man to overcome them. V. Keegan expresses his belief that one major cause of the continued advance was the composition of the Kitchener armies. The British forces contained an unusually large number of volunteers as a part of its army. These men were mostly unexperienced and often undersized and unprepared physically, although Keegan maintains that these men were part of a strong patriotic movement that provided them with mood of self sacrifice (261). Keegan believes that this attitude, coupled with the usual military sense of commitment to a plan even while sustaining heavy casualties, led the men to press onwards (261). Keegan also cites a lack of communication and communication technologies as a source of the continued advance. However, Keegan does not expand much on the effect that the inexperience of ... Technically, the CHRO of HP uses human resource matric analysis and HR science in management. In practice, human resource is viewed as a strategic resource, not just a kind of equipment that can be sold and bought. Being respected and well treated, employees in HP hold a relatively higher loyalty. According to Enderle (2013), HP is enjoying some of the lowest employee turnover number in the industry. • 31. Tobias Smollett s The Adventures Of Peregrine Pickle In the passage from The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle the author Tobias Smollett uses dialogue, syntax and word choice to convey the complexities of emotions and social propriety. Firstly, word choice is an important tool Smollet uses. This technique is important because it helps set apart the passage from other narratives. The use of repetition emphasizes the indignation of the two men arguing. His use of this tool can be noted throughout the first passage, lines 1 through 23, with the repeated phrases sir and gentlemen . With each emphasis the tension increases between the two men and the struggle between their anger and their respectable reputations is shown. Smollett s use of formal, and old fashioned phrases as well as narrative help represent a respectful tone, even as they both wish to fight the other. The usage of this tool creates a dance between the two, in which they are waiting for the other to make a move in order to make one of their own. An example of this technique is in lines 13 through 10. Shown in the dialogue between the two characters in which Godfrey and Pickle are arguing, Smollett wrote replied the soldier... and the youth. • 32. The Epic Of Beowulf And The Song Of Roland The epics of Beowulf and The Song of Roland were written down within a few hundred years of one another, however, their subject matter and scope differ vastly. Beowulf, set in Scandinavia, contains the exploits of the hero Beowulf and his life as he grows from a thane of Geatland to a king of his people. The events of Beowulf span many years and entail his fighting of several different creatures. Throughout the epic, Beowulf and many of the characters around him exhibit a heroic code that details the standard of behavior and thoughts one should have in order to be a hero in that world. Similarly, The Song of Roland, which is set in the late 700s, revolves around another exemplary hero in Count Roland, a great knight of Emperor Charles, who is fighting in Spain for the seventh year with the rest of Charlemagne s army. As with Beowulf, The Song of Roland expresses ideas pertaining to the concepts of a heroic code and what it means to be and become a great warrior and king. While both epics were written fairly close to one another in history, the origins of the pair are vastly different and both concern themselves with similar themes and features, but do so in wholly different ways. Beowulf is an epic that is large in scale and scope in terms of both time and space. Early on within the tale, the reader is introduced to the great hero and namesake of the story, Beowulf. We identified the unknown bacteria through different biochemical tests and identified the many metabolic capabilities of the bacteria. Studying and discovering unknown bacteria is very important in the health field as it may lead to new medicines and innovations for current, existing diseases as well as any upcoming diseases. The discovery of unknown bacteria is very useful in the pharmaceutical industry, as most of the products prepared are made based on these unknown organisms. The biochemical tests used to identify the unknown bacteria included: phenol red broth test (glucose, lactose, and sucrose), methyl red and Voges Proskauer test, citrate test, indole test, H2S production test, urea test and motility test. The PR broths are used to differentiate members of Enterobacteriaceae and to distinguish these members from other gram negative rods. The PR broths are useful in determining a bacterium s fermentation abilities. If the bacterium is able to utilize the carbohydrate, then the acid production from fermentation lowers pH, which in turn turns the broth yellow. However, if the bacterium is unable to utilize the carbohydrate, but does utilize the peptone, which produces the by product ammonia, the medium will have a rise in pH turning the broth pink.
