Investigating Potential Treatments For Minor Recurrent...
Aim and Introduction Recurrent aphthous ulceration (RAU) is the most common oral mucosal
disorder, affecting 20% of the general population (see figure 1)(Akintoye and Greenberg 1997). RAU
is classified into 3 subtypes with minor RAU being the most prevalent form (Barrons 2001). Due to its
unknown etiology, there is no effective method in terminating its outbreaks, though the symptoms can
currently be relieved through topical treatments (Femiano et al 2007). RAU is an issue of concern for
dentists, as it negatively impacts patients quality of life, by impeding eating, swallowing, and speaking
(Baharvad 2014). Therefore, there is strong interest for researchers to find new agents to potentially
treat RAU. This paper aims to critically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Small sample sizes were used in all of the studies, making the results questionable, if applied to the
general population. Also, there were no power calculations made, except in (Lui et al 2012). Although
the selection criterion removed potential confounding factors, they narrowed down the applicability of
the findings. This included exclusion of proposed etiological factors for RAU, such as Behcet s,
Chrohn s and ulcerative colitis. All 5 studies analysed changes in ulcer size and pain between each
treatment and control group. However, pain is subjective between individuals and hard to localise to
one ulcer, thus making it a difficult variable to compare. Dexamethasone Dexamethasone is a topical
steroid. Its anti inflammatory and immunosuppressive qualities led to a systematic review that
revealed a decrease in ulcer duration, in comparison to the placebo (Quijano and Rodriquez, 2008).
(Lui et al 2012) were the first to look into systemic safety concerns in the use of topical
dexamethasone treatment in MiRAU by measuring serum concentration of dexamethasone. This
means that there was a lack of previous evidence to support their findings. Only 89/240 subjects from
2/5 centers were chosen for the safety analysis, along with no power calculation to determine the
subsample size (Lui et al 2012). This further questions the reliability of their results. Smokers were

Health Issues Of The Medical Field
Over recent years, people are faced with different health related issues regardless of the advancement
in the medical field (Kronenfeld, 2008). In this scenario, Molly is an 82 years old lady, who has
developed health problems which make her feel isolated and lonely. The following essay highlights
Molly s leg ulcer, primary health care, wellness, health professionals and how these have been used to
create a learning program for Molly. It also describes the pathophysiology of diabetes, Type II
Diabetes and resources/ support services for the client s spouse who is experiencing grief after the
client died. Lunnay McIntyre (2014) describes Primary Health Care (PHC) as the first level of contact

It is the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits that will enhance well being while decreasing the risk of
disease. The six principles of wellness are social, emotional, spiritual, occupational, intellectual
wellness (Smith, Tang Nutbeam, 2006). The two principles of wellness are physical wellness and
social wellness. Physical wellness means ability to recognize the benefits of physical activities and
adopting healthy habits such as routine check ups of vital signs, a balanced diet and exercise while
avoiding the use of tobacco, drugs and excessive use of alcohol. (Floyd, Mimms Yelding 2008).
Second, social wellness is characterized by the ability of an individual to connect with other people in
the world and become aware of their importance in the society as well as take an active part in
improving our surrounding by encouraging healthier living and build a better living space in the
community (Hettler, 1976). Physical and social principle of wellness should be promoted for Molly.
Firstly, maximising her own ability to increase her independence and confidence by engaging into
daily routine activities. Secondly, teaching her how to do exercise and adjusting her balanced diet by
following the advice of the health professional in order to cure the pressure ulcer. Thirdly, providing

How Did The Civil War Affect The Rights Of African...
The Civil War was an important and defining event in history which helped shape and unite
Americans, however, it mostly aided African Americans and women. It influenced many events that
took place later in history such as bringing the nation together, paving the way for an industrialized
nation, but most importantly, in my opinion, it started the journey of equality for blacks as well as
women. The Civil War was a war between the Northern and Southern states; and I believe one of the
biggest reasons leading to it was the opposing views against slavery. Although, the Emancipation
Proclamation freed slaves, blacks were still not considered equals and continued to be ill treated and
discriminated against. In my opinion this continued to take place, because the South just as many
other individuals in the North did not support or intend to end slavery, but were ... Show more content

Even though many were scared and lost in this new phase of freedom, some were encouraged and
courageous enough to stand up for their beliefs such as Fredrick Douglass, Nelson Mandela, Rosa
Parks, and Martin Luther King. Some of these individuals lived in different periods throughout
history; though they continued to contest the equality of men and tried to improve the conditions and
rights of blacks, because like many I believe that the equality of the colored individual has never
really completely transpired. For this reason I state that the civil war was the start and helped pave the
way for the journey of equality of African Americans, because till this day we still see discrimination,
ill treatment and inequality of blacks. In my opinion, employers will still hire an Anglo before hiring
an African American, even emergency rooms will provide better treatment to a white than and African
American. One great example is the recent

Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy
Overall, the lack of dystrophin in DMD individuals causes many problems in different aspects of
metabolism. It has a massive effect on muscles, affecting the shoulders, hips, calves, thighs, pelvic
area first. Like other muscular dystrophies, DMD affects the voluntary muscles first and then will
progress into other muscles. Limb girdle muscular dystrophy is another type out of the many that
affect voluntary muscles. Specifically, it targets the hips and shoulders.

Autosomal dominant LGMD occur less often than recessive dominant LGMD. In the metabolism
myotilin gene mutations occur, it may be due to a deficiency of vitamin B12, vitamin E, folate or
exposures to nitrous oxide. LGMD 1A disease normally occurs from the age 42 to 77, and develops in
the same areas (hip, shoulder and back) however, it could spread to the leg muscles. Due to the fact
that myotilin gene is mutated, it causes focal myofibrillar destruction to occur, and this results in
intracytoplasmic deposits to float around in the blood stream. In one case study done in Barcelona in
2011, there were 13 patients who were all diagnosed with myotilin gene mutation disease. The results
showed that the deposits of myofibrillar became immune to myotilin and cluster up the vacuoles and
interfere with the Z lines. Overall the study revealed that each patient shared the same phenotypic
characteristics, LGMD 1A and myofibrillar myopathy variations which emphasizes that LGMD is a

PROFESSIONAL INTEREST Besides the reasons already stated for the selection of this topic I
would like to add that my intention to select this area has to do also with the fact that I see a lot of
benefits from learning more about Open Source Software. It is an area related directly to my study
program at ASPEN University as well as an area where there is a lack of knowledge among most IT
Managers. As an IT Consultant myself, being able to help my team or other IT organizations with such

Examples Of Ruth In Social Work

Social Work Practice 01
March 21, 2017 Preliminaries:
1. Knowledge
a) Migrant Worker Ruth was a born into the migrant work, she would have most likely been a migrant
worker her whole life; if she did not get close to the crew leader . Being a migrant worker was not
easy for Ruth. She had poor working conditions, and bad pay. She was determined to get herself out of
this working environment.
b) Mental/physical abuse Ruth s father and mother both struggled with alcohol abuse and often took it
out on Ruth. Her mother often urged her to do things she was not comfortable with: including
marriage. Her mother often referred to her as strange and different from the rest of them. Because,
Ruth was not one who would fall into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
lastly, another concern would be her love and belonging. Which in your hierarchy of needs is
classified as friendship, family and sexual intimacy. Ruth has very little to none of all those. She cut
ties with her family, has no close friends and no significant other.
4. Strengths
4a. Courage Ruth Showed a huge amount of courage by cutting out the negativity in her life, and not
breaking down to get married when she didn t want to get married. She didn t fall under the peer
pressure of her family.
4b. Possibility Ruth shows possibility in furthering her working career. She knew that she didn t want
to be just a simple migrant worker in the field. She got close to the crew leader, who is now teaching
her to run shifts at the gas station, and take control of the management duties.
Planning
1. Ruth needs someone who can empathize with her who will let her talk about her feelings without
judgement. Ruth needs someone who can be there to listen, someone to have a connection with. I will
allow her to realize who she was, and how successful she actually was, even though she does not see it
in herself right now.

Anasazi Disappearance
The History and the Disappearance of the Anasazi Introduction: My topic is the history and the
disappearance of the Anasazi. I chose this topic because I am from Colorado and we visited Mesa
Verde on school trips. I find the Anasazi culture interesting and doing research on them seemed like it
would be enjoyable.
` The Anasazi populated the four corners area of Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona. They
became independent somewhere between 200 and 500 A.D. and disappeared 1100 years later leaving
behind many remains. There are many theories about what could have happened to the Anasazi but the
speculation with the strongest evidence is that they scattered due to drought and decreased resources.
Despite their disappearance, the Anasazi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article Riddles of the Anasazi states Using data from tree rings, researchers know that a terrible
drought seized the Southwest from 1276 to 1299; it is possible that in certain areas there was virtually
no rain at all during those 23 years. No rain for 23 years would be a justified reason for them to find
other places to live. The Anasazi also chopped down many trees for beams and firewood which lead to
deforestation. There is also evidence of an even longer drought from the years 1130 to 1180 which
shows that they were strong enough to withstand droughts before. It doesn t make sense for them to
last through a 50 year drought then leave because of a 23 year drought therefore it is still a mystery
what caused them to leave. The evidence isn t strong enough to know if this is why they left for
certain but there is more evidence that supports this is than any other reason for their

Chapter 25 of The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck Essay...
Chapter 25 of The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
In the twenty fifth chapter of his novel The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck presents the reader with a
series of vivid images, accompanied by a series of powerful indictments. Steinbeck effectively uses
both the potent imagery and clear statements of what he perceives as fact to convey his message. This
short chapter offers a succinct portrayal of one of the major themes of the larger work. Namely, the
potential bounty of nature corrupted and left to rot by a profit driven system, a system that ultimately
fails.
Steinbeck begins the chapter with the simple statement, The spring is beautiful in California (p. 346).

32). Spring is how Steinbeck has chosen to begin this chapter and, though it is not an everlasting
spring, this Californian spring resembles Ovid s Golden Age. Just as Ovid s ages of the world
degenerate into baser and baser metals, so Steinbeck s California degenerates from springtime of
bounty to a harvest time of fruit rotting on the ground.
Continuing to contrast Ovid and Steinbeck another difference becomes apparent. In Ovid s Golden
Age the earth is bountiful without the interference of humans. Ovid says, The earth itself, without
compulsion, untouched by the hoe ... produced all things spontaneously, and men were content with
foods that grew without cultivation (p. 32). Steinbeck s Californian Eden comes about in vastly
different manner. Steinbeck states, Behind the fruitfulness are men of understanding and knowledge
and skill (p. 346). These men manipulate the earth, experimenting with seeds and roots, seeking to
make plants resilient to all manners of pest and blight. Others, men of chemistry, devise chemical
sprays to kills insects, and cut out disease and rots, mildews and sicknesses (p. 346). There are still
others. Doctors of preventative medicine, surgeons, and border guards, all of whom are attempting to
increase the yield and bounty of the earth. No,

Ishmael And The Carpenter As A Life Buod
The imagery suggests that the mother, who is the carpenter, gives life to her child, the coffin. Ahab
referred to the carpenter as Prometheus, a titan, a silkworm spinning its own shroud out of itself
(Leiter 1958). This, I think is Melville s way of connecting the coffin s obvious meaning of death to
life. The carpenter as Prometheus symbolizes God who gives birth or in other words life to death. The
coffin then acts as a life buoy for Ishmael specifically, when it carries him over to safety at the end of
the novel. Ishmael and the coffin, both tossed up by the Pequod rigged out like a whale also like Job
by the Whale of God, become Prophets who deliver the message of God to the world (Leiter 1958). In
a way then, the coffin also symbolizes the universe, man, his life, and his death. It is a symbol of the
fate of man here on this earth. Ishmael is saved because he unlike Ahab, whose view of the condition
of man is so monolithic and pretty much insane has reached a state not only of understanding man s
role in the universe, but he has also achieved acceptance of that role. Wedded to Ishmael earlier in the
novel, Queequeg points the way to sanity, neither through destructive internal questioning, nor
through acceptance of religious prophecies, but by what he is. After meeting his other half in Peter
Coffin s inn, which is decked out like a whale, Ishmael says, As I sat there in that lonely room...I
began to be sensible of strange feelings. I felt a melting in me. Since

San Diego Comic-Con
In the last couple of year, entertainment thought to be niche started to seep its way into pop culture.
One main testament to this is the San Diego Comic Con (SDCC), which has thousands of fans in
attendance every year. My first Con I attended was this one, in the summer of 2013, and it was an
amazing experience. It showed the devotion and love many fans had for franchises they cared for. On
the other hand, it also demonstrated hype culture and how big studios can have an effect on art and

exactly is Comic con, and what is its cultural significance? San Diego Comic con was founded in

portrays this idea as he tells the story of Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Polish piano player who spends five
years struggling against Nazi Germany s invasion of Warsaw, Poland during World War II. Although
Szpilman and his family were incapable of preventing the injustice from happening around them, they
certainly did not fail to protest it against all odds. Filled with significant scenes that capture the cruel
behavior of the Nazis, The Pianist presents the theme of man s inhumanity towards one another at a
time where pain is inevitable and hardships must be endured.
Under the sheer persuasiveness of Adolf Hitler, the Jews were being denounced and controlled by
Germany s police forces. Being a Jewish man himself, Polanski was able to depict the story with dark,
acid humor and a callous objectivity that embodied both cynicism and compassion. In order to
establish this thought throughout the film, Polanski uses techniques including mise en scene and ...

The Umschlagplatz was the square in the Warsaw ghetto under German occupation where the Jews
were gathered for deportation to the extermination camps. In this particular scene, there is a tracking
shot of the Jews walking into the Umschlagplatz and Polanski acknowledges the year as the time
when the removal of Jews had begun. Why this information is important eventually becomes evident
once the camera s at a high angle with a view of the umschlagplatz constricted within the barbed wire
fence, thus forcing the viewers to feel sympathy towards the captured Jews. The high angled shot

Nathan Leopold And Loeb s Trial
Life plus ninety nine years, this was the sentence given to Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb after
they brutally murdered young fourteen year old Bobby Franks. They picked him up, promising to take
him home, and bashed his head in with the handle of a chisel. Leopold and Loeb then took his body to
Wolf Lake, a small body of water near the Indiana Illinois border, and buried him in a nearby culvert.
In the end they were found, tried, and sent to prison. Drawn together by genius, love and mental
instability Leopold and Loeb executed one of the most recognized murders in America; the trial
changed how many people viewed the death penalty and raised awareness for mental disease. Leopold

The Glass Menagerie By F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Glass Menagerie is arguably the most symbolic and deep plays ever written. The Glass Menagerie
isn t just a story of Laura s disability, it has a deeper meaning behind it, and it can be easily
overlooked by mediocre minds. Although the story revolves around the Wingfield family, Tennessee
Williams throws in symbolism that corresponds with his childhood. In a way, he found closure for the
loss of his sister Rose through writing The Glass Menagerie. One of the symbols is the play that holds
a different meaning for each of the characters is the fire escape. As the play evolves the fire escape
brings out Laura s, Tom s, and Amanda s true desires. OR
The fire escape like the other symbols hold a deeper understanding of the characters, and although
Tennessee didn t admit that he wrote this story off of his own experiences as a child having dealt with
similar circumstances, it s obvious it was written about his childhood. So, the symbolism also makes a
deeper understanding of Tennessee himself and the kind of life he lived. As I said the fire escape
shows the desire of escape, the realization of danger within the Wingfield home, and the characters
true qualities are brought out by the fire escape.
For Laura, the fire escape is symbolic to show how interdependent she is on other people once she
slipped and fell. It signified that she can t even go outside alone without getting hurt. Laura always
needs someone to be with her. The real world is too much for Laura; she could

Double Jeopardy In The Criminal Justice Act 2003
The legal issues that can be determined from the question is the validity of the double jeopardy
principle based on the amendments in the Criminal Justice Act 2003. The question also seeks to
evaluate the impact of the amendments on the system of justice in England and Wales.
In lay terms, double jeopardy means placing someone on trial a second time for an offense for which
he/she has been previously acquitted, even when new incriminating evidence has been unearthed.
Athenian statesman and philosopher Demosthenes was one of the earliest to conceptualise the double
jeopardy principle when he stated in 355 BC, The law forbids the same man to be tried twice on the

Esu Warriors Case Study
After three straight losses, many fans began to question the state of the ESU Warriors, but an
impressive win over Bloomsburg during senior night reaffirmed their status as the PSAC East top
team. Seniors Dan Clapp, Terrance King, Blair Ramsey, Duane Johnson and Gerald Bridges are five
of the most decorated Warriors in ESU s history, and they played like it in their last regular season
game at Koehler Fieldhouse. The aforementioned three game stretch saw the Warriors out worked on
the boards, leaving too many easy points at the free throw line, and numerous misses from the three

Henry Ford Started the Car Revolution
Henry Ford Who is the person that started the car revolution? Who is the person that introduced us to
the world of automobiles? The answer is Henry Ford. Henry Ford was a successful man that created
the Ford automobile. Henry Ford s company is still making great profit in business. Henry Ford
wanted to stop World War II by creating tanks, jeeps, and other armed forces but it still didn t work.
Still, Ford s automobiles were affordable and he became a very rich and a well known man. Henry has
achieved the creation of the V8 engine and was able to build the model T in 24 seconds with the
assembly line that he introduced. Because of the assembly line, there were people that called him

The Native Americans And The Europeans
When the Europeans conquered the Native Americans; both groups had little understanding of each
other, especially their cultures. The Native Americans had a rich through history that allowed them to
be almost as developed as the Europeans. However, the Europeans overlooked this because the Native
Americans had not established the same man made medical and agricultural developments as the
Europeans. Conversely, the Native Americans thought that the Europeans were too concerned with
dead objects, and took their land for granted. There are many controversial debates over who was
worse: the Native Americans or the Europeans, yet, it s evident that warfare, ritual torture, and cruelty
were apparent in both societies. The Europeans had not known what the Native Americans had
achieved, and the struggles they d overcome. The history of the Native Americans began in Siberia.
Many scholars hypothesize that the first Americans came from Siberia and traveled into Alaska. The
colder climate of the Ice Age made an ice bridge across what is now the Bering Strait. Unfortunately,
the bridge started to melt without warning, causing the people in Alaska to become trapped. A group
of Native Americans known as today s Navajo and Apache came to the rescue when their construction
of boats advanced and allowed them to be durable enough to travel across the strait. These Athabascan
speaking people traveled from Canada and later reached the American southwest. The Paleo Indians

The Ways the British Government Tried to Hide the Effects of the Blitz from the British People
The government wanted to hide the effects of the blitz for many reasons. By doing this they were
protecting the public as well as continuing the battle against the Germans. As the effects were hidden
normal life could continue and therefore so could the war effort and morale of the public.
Many methods were used in doing this. The government used radio, newspapers, press, posters, film
reels and the cinema to give information to the public, while still able to hold back any information
seen to be damaging to the British war effort and morale through censorship, propaganda and

Slogans such as Britain can take it were used to show the country as surviving in spite of the ongoing
attacks as bombs can only kill people, they cannot destroy the indomitable spirit of a nation.
The government also tried to exaggerate victories. For example, on 15th September 1940, after a
massive daylight air raid on London, the BBC announced that, according to official figures, 180
German planes had been shot down. In truth, the number was about sixty. Propaganda was also used
to ridicule and counter that of Germany, in the ongoing struggle for control between the two countries.
E.g. the Ministry of Information
Censorship was used greatly by the government to hide the effects of the Blitz from the public. To
disguise the real effects of the bombing on people newspapers only published positive stories and
images and photographs of large casualties were not published. In Oct 1940 Balham underground
station was hit by a bomb which burst a water main and 64 people drowned. But photos of this were
never published and the story was not released. Censorship was used for the prevention of hysteria and
panic. The bombing of Balham Station would have caused panic as many underground stations were
used as shelters. Many papers were condensed to only 4 pages due to censorship
Censorship was also used as damage

Women In Career And Technical Education
In the early nineteenth century Career and Technical Education (CTE) was aimed towards the male
population. The role of a woman was to be a home maker. Most households could not afford an
education for the females in the home. Women who could afford to be educated were instructed in
more artistic and moral subjects, to keep them busy and prepare them for being a respectable parent.
As men were sent off to war, women began to play a bigger role outside of the home. The Civil War
utilized women as government clerks and soon industrial jobs became available too. Later wars, like
World War I and II, saw women not just sewing but in munitions plants as well. Unfortunately, women
were paid at much lower rates than their male counterparts. The government realized there was a need
for educating the female population and the Smith Hughes Act of 1917 included home economics. ...

The Discovery Of Tungsten, Formerly Wolfram Or Wolframite
History
Tungsten, formerly Wolfram or Wolframite, is not naturally found in nature, and can only be created
by taking either protons or neutrons from naturally occurring substances. In the sixteenth century,
German smelters discovered it as an accompanying mineral to tin ores. When trying to smelt these
ores, they sometimes found foam like deposits would form, consuming the tin ores they found
valuable. Due to this phenomenon, it was said that it Tears away the tin and devours it like a wolf

that was readily attainable for use in many different applications. Following his innovations, as soon
as ten years later, patents for tungsten used as an alloy in steels, and high speed steels became
common strengthening the material by as much as 20 percent. Many of the same steels are still in wide
use today. In 1904, Tungsten was used to replace the filaments in lightbulbs, as an alternative to the
much less efficient carbon filaments that were the standard of the era. This application was used to
illuminate the world, changing the way humans live forever, and is also still in wide use today. Only in
recent years have alternatives that are safer and more energy efficient been created.
Applications
Tungsten is applied to different metals for a variety of uses. In applications where strong steels are
needed, tungsten can be added in higher and lower quantities based on need to increase strength due to
its increased durability. Some common uses for the material are electron television tubes, filaments in
electric lamps, winding/heating elements for electric furnaces, missile/ high temperature applications,
and high speed tool steels to name a

In an organization, the flow of information in different direction creates the communication network.
Network could be of many different types but broadly it could be of two types internal communication

their communication through this network. External communication network, on the other hand, is the

First of all, the nature of these two organizations is totally different. Therefore, the products and
services offered by these companies are different. Hence, the organogram and organizational structure
of these companies are not the same. For example, TCS conducts supply chain management services
which need a long chain of management. But in case of Hills and Dales, the nature of the service
requires short chain of management eg childcare, residence service etc. Hence, for Hills and Dales,
internal communication network is shorter vertically than that of TCS.
Another difference in internal communication system is that, there is less peer interaction for Hills and
Dales. For example, an employee who is working for Hills and Dales in a childcare center will not be
communicated with other employees of other centers such as residential centers. But in case of TCS,
there is a higher chance of peer interaction as employees of different departments work together in

Lynching in the United States
In the case of lynching, discourses emerge from heated debates about the meaning of the practice;
these debates change over the long history of lynching in America. At different times in the nineteenth
and twentieth centuries, the term lynching has implied rather different historical acts amongst the
community. It has also been used to specify acts that indicated a wide range of distinct motives,
strategies, technologies and meanings, as well as a politically encumbered term. For many African
Americans who grew up in the South in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the threat of lynching
was mundane. Photographs and postcards illustrating the popular image of an angry white mob

White southerners drew on prewar precedents from the vigilante movements with which landed whites
had suppressed landless whites, the brutal suppression of slave revolts and the relatively rare ferocious
mob punishment of an alleged rape or murder by a slave.
From the late nineteenth to early twentieth century, lynchings were thouroughly rooted in social
measures; communities carried out most of the mob killings. Class, ethnicity, and culture all
contributed to the inclination for lynching. The motivations behind lynchings are different in the ways
in which they used violence to render the understandings of race, social class, sexuality and gender in
crime and punishment. Most private mobs carried out lynchings to bring about division in the
community view and leaned towards killing their victims that were detained in the custody of legal
authorities. Small mobs utilized careful planning and leaned to delay their vigilantism for some time
after the commission of the supposed crime they were punishing. One way of rationalizing it would be
to say that some people regarded the execution of these mobs as holding up the values of the
community
Over the course of lynching s history, these mobs changed in size and strategies. Based on the level of
organization, historian John Ross recognized three primary groups of lynch mobs: those deriving from

The Lakota Tribe
Thesis: In 1868 the Lakota tribe signed a peace treaty with the US government giving the tribe all the

something very bad could happen. They just don t want any harm to their land. It s not that the natives
don t want a pipeline anywhere it s just that they would like to reroute it so it does not go through
sacred grounds. In fact many of the Indians in Oklahoma make a living off of oil pipelines and they
also were in the fight to either stop the pipeline building completely or just reroute

  • 2. Investigating Potential Treatments For Minor Recurrent... Aim and Introduction Recurrent aphthous ulceration (RAU) is the most common oral mucosal disorder, affecting 20% of the general population (see figure 1)(Akintoye and Greenberg 1997). RAU is classified into 3 subtypes with minor RAU being the most prevalent form (Barrons 2001). Due to its unknown etiology, there is no effective method in terminating its outbreaks, though the symptoms can currently be relieved through topical treatments (Femiano et al 2007). RAU is an issue of concern for dentists, as it negatively impacts patients quality of life, by impeding eating, swallowing, and speaking (Baharvad 2014). Therefore, there is strong interest for researchers to find new agents to potentially treat RAU. This paper aims to critically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Small sample sizes were used in all of the studies, making the results questionable, if applied to the general population. Also, there were no power calculations made, except in (Lui et al 2012). Although the selection criterion removed potential confounding factors, they narrowed down the applicability of the findings. This included exclusion of proposed etiological factors for RAU, such as Behcet s, Chrohn s and ulcerative colitis. All 5 studies analysed changes in ulcer size and pain between each treatment and control group. However, pain is subjective between individuals and hard to localise to one ulcer, thus making it a difficult variable to compare. Dexamethasone Dexamethasone is a topical steroid. Its anti inflammatory and immunosuppressive qualities led to a systematic review that revealed a decrease in ulcer duration, in comparison to the placebo (Quijano and Rodriquez, 2008). (Lui et al 2012) were the first to look into systemic safety concerns in the use of topical dexamethasone treatment in MiRAU by measuring serum concentration of dexamethasone. This means that there was a lack of previous evidence to support their findings. Only 89/240 subjects from 2/5 centers were chosen for the safety analysis, along with no power calculation to determine the subsample size (Lui et al 2012). • 5. How Did The Civil War Affect The Rights Of African... The Civil War was an important and defining event in history which helped shape and unite Americans, however, it mostly aided African Americans and women. It influenced many events that took place later in history such as bringing the nation together, paving the way for an industrialized nation, but most importantly, in my opinion, it started the journey of equality for blacks as well as women. The Civil War was a war between the Northern and Southern states; and I believe one of the biggest reasons leading to it was the opposing views against slavery. Although, the Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves, blacks were still not considered equals and continued to be ill treated and discriminated against. In my opinion this continued to take place, because the South just as many other individuals in the North did not support or intend to end slavery, but were ... For this reason I state that the civil war was the start and helped pave the way for the journey of equality of African Americans, because till this day we still see discrimination, ill treatment and inequality of blacks. They became independent somewhere between 200 and 500 A.D. and disappeared 1100 years later leaving behind many remains. There is also evidence of an even longer drought from the years 1130 to 1180 which shows that they were strong enough to withstand droughts before. It doesn t make sense for them to last through a 50 year drought then leave because of a 23 year drought therefore it is still a mystery what caused them to leave. Chapter 25 of The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck In the twenty fifth chapter of his novel The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck presents the reader with a series of vivid images, accompanied by a series of powerful indictments. Steinbeck effectively uses both the potent imagery and clear statements of what he perceives as fact to convey his message. This short chapter offers a succinct portrayal of one of the major themes of the larger work. Namely, the potential bounty of nature corrupted and left to rot by a profit driven system, a system that ultimately fails. Spring is how Steinbeck has chosen to begin this chapter and, though it is not an everlasting spring, this Californian spring resembles Ovid s Golden Age. Just as Ovid s ages of the world degenerate into baser and baser metals, so Steinbeck s California degenerates from springtime of bounty to a harvest time of fruit rotting on the ground. Continuing to contrast Ovid and Steinbeck another difference becomes apparent. In Ovid s Golden Age the earth is bountiful without the interference of humans. Ovid says, The earth itself, without compulsion, untouched by the hoe ... produced all things spontaneously, and men were content with foods that grew without cultivation (p. 32). Steinbeck s Californian Eden comes about in vastly different manner. Steinbeck states, Behind the fruitfulness are men of understanding and knowledge and skill (p. 346). These men manipulate the earth, experimenting with seeds and roots, seeking to make plants resilient to all manners of pest and blight. Others, men of chemistry, devise chemical sprays to kills insects, and cut out disease and rots, mildews and sicknesses (p. 346). There are still others. • 13. Ishmael And The Carpenter As A Life Buod The imagery suggests that the mother, who is the carpenter, gives life to her child, the coffin. Ahab referred to the carpenter as Prometheus, a titan, a silkworm spinning its own shroud out of itself (Leiter 1958). This, I think is Melville s way of connecting the coffin s obvious meaning of death to life. The carpenter as Prometheus symbolizes God who gives birth or in other words life to death. The coffin then acts as a life buoy for Ishmael specifically, when it carries him over to safety at the end of the novel. Ishmael and the coffin, both tossed up by the Pequod rigged out like a whale also like Job by the Whale of God, become Prophets who deliver the message of God to the world (Leiter 1958). In a way then, the coffin also symbolizes the universe, man, his life, and his death. It is a symbol of the fate of man here on this earth. Ishmael is saved because he unlike Ahab, whose view of the condition of man is so monolithic and pretty much insane has reached a state not only of understanding man s role in the universe, but he has also achieved acceptance of that role. Wedded to Ishmael earlier in the novel, Queequeg points the way to sanity, neither through destructive internal questioning, nor through acceptance of religious prophecies, but by what he is. The Glass Menagerie isn t just a story of Laura s disability, it has a deeper meaning behind it, and it can be easily overlooked by mediocre minds. In a way, he found closure for the loss of his sister Rose through writing The Glass Menagerie. One of the symbols is the play that holds a different meaning for each of the characters is the fire escape. As the play evolves the fire escape brings out Laura s, Tom s, and Amanda s true desires. As I said the fire escape shows the desire of escape, the realization of danger within the Wingfield home, and the characters true qualities are brought out by the fire escape. The Native Americans had a rich through history that allowed them to be almost as developed as the Europeans. However, the Europeans overlooked this because the Native Americans had not established the same man made medical and agricultural developments as the Europeans. Conversely, the Native Americans thought that the Europeans were too concerned with dead objects, and took their land for granted. There are many controversial debates over who was worse: the Native Americans or the Europeans, yet, it s evident that warfare, ritual torture, and cruelty were apparent in both societies. The Europeans had not known what the Native Americans had achieved, and the struggles they d overcome. The history of the Native Americans began in Siberia. Many scholars hypothesize that the first Americans came from Siberia and traveled into Alaska. The colder climate of the Ice Age made an ice bridge across what is now the Bering Strait. Unfortunately, the bridge started to melt without warning, causing the people in Alaska to become trapped. A group of Native Americans known as today s Navajo and Apache came to the rescue when their construction of boats advanced and allowed them to be durable enough to travel across the strait. As men were sent off to war, women began to play a bigger role outside of the home. The Civil War utilized women as government clerks and soon industrial jobs became available too. Later wars, like World War I and II, saw women not just sewing but in munitions plants as well. Unfortunately, women were paid at much lower rates than their male counterparts. From the late nineteenth to early twentieth century, lynchings were thouroughly rooted in social measures; communities carried out most of the mob killings. Class, ethnicity, and culture all contributed to the inclination for lynching. The motivations behind lynchings are different in the ways in which they used violence to render the understandings of race, social class, sexuality and gender in crime and punishment. Most private mobs carried out lynchings to bring about division in the community view and leaned towards killing their victims that were detained in the custody of legal authorities. Small mobs utilized careful planning and leaned to delay their vigilantism for some time after the commission of the supposed crime they were punishing. One way of rationalizing it would be to say that some people regarded the execution of these mobs as holding up the values of the community Over the course of lynching s history, these mobs changed in size and strategies.
