The Visual Arts, Technology, And Philosophy
One may wonder how much did The Information Age really contribute to society and, more
specifically, the visual arts, technology, and philosophy. The Information Age, as defined by Gloria
K. Fiero, is dominated by radical changes in the technology of communication and the way we
receive and process information (Fiero, 476). The Information Age paved the way for several
brilliant artists to not only share their work, but create their work. Artists, such as Andy Warhol,
expressed their artistic abilities in the most unimaginable, yet creative approaches. In the case of
Andy Warhol, Warhol created pop art, which artistically expresses popular culture in means of
creating a compelling commercial advertisement. Furthermore, in the realm of... Show more content

One of the artists responsible for video art would be Nam June Paik. Nam June Paik is a Korean
artist and musician; Paik was known for assembling television sets to create a rapid fire
assortment of animated and live video images drawn from East and West, additionally, Paik s
idea allowed for the creation of the jumbotron, which now allows to host several events close up
(Fiero, 493). Moreover, total art is the work of art itself (Fiero, 492). Total art is far from being
considered traditional art, yet it is rather creative and gives insight as to how the product is
secondary compared to the process of creating art. Total art is expressed in the form of
performance and ritual. Additionally, total art can take several different forms such as raves, flash
mobs, and basically any moment that an individual would describe as art. Furthermore, Pop art is
more of an extension of traditional art, yet the art is expressed in a manner that grabs the attention
of an individual witnessing the painting. Pop art seems simplistic, however, pop art also seems to
be loud and eye piercing. Andy Warhol, the artist behind the creation of pop art, received the idea of
pop art through his experiences as a commercial artist. Since western consumerism seamlessly
began to expand, Warhol gave advertisements more life and personality in order to capture the
attention of the audience. Without artistic freedom and willingness to accept the

Two large elements that are unique to this piece are the style of the musicand the dynamics. The
style of the music because, the song was unique for Russia and added a tint of joy to the cymphony.

In addition, the management team has proved that it has capability to turnaround the bankrupted
company into the company that has positive net income in less than one year!
2.2 Weakness
The financial statements contain some inappropriateness of projected figures. In 2004, the notes
payable show a negative balance what is a very rare projection. In addition, the very low gross
margin and net income is inconsistent with its mission. Elan wants to be hyper efficient in its
manufacturing, however the figures presented in the projected financial statement imply that it
cannot manage to be efficient because the manufacturing costs represent 70% of the total sales and
continue to increase over the periods. The projected net income represents only 1 to 5 percent of
the total sales. With this amount of net income, Elan cannot be a true market leader in profitability
as Ben wanted.
Projected current ratios of 1.5, 1.7, 2.1 give liquidity concerns.
Projected quick ratios of 0.6/0.66 for 2002/2003 cause concern as well. From the wide gap
between current and quick ratios, it can be interpreted that work in process and finished inventory
represents a very critical amount of the total current asset. In addition, the inventory turnover is
forecasted to decrease over the years. This implies more inventory piles up for the firm and can

Argumentative Essay On Antidepressant
Antidepressants have become the most commonly prescribed drugs in the United States. These
drugs work in many different ways, but are intended to treat serious psychological disorders
such as depression. They can be prescribed by any medical doctor, however, and are often used
even when they are not clearly indicated as necessary or even effective. Americans are
increasingly turning to antidepressants as a quick fix to real or perceived psychological problems
that can often be treated more efficiently in other ways with less risk to their physical well being.
Antidepressants are drugs that are primarily used to treat depression, although many are frequently
being utilized in other disorders. The main types of antidepressants are tricyclics,... Show more

Many people with mild to moderate depression can be successfully treated with psychotherapy and
other non medical interventions such as bright light; exercise; relaxation techniques; eliminating
the use of substances like recreational drugs, alcohol and caffeine; getting regular sleep; eating a
balanced diet; and stress reduction. But when these interventions have been tried and failed, or
when a patient s depression is severe enough to interfere with their ability to function in their work,
relationships, and self care, doctors will recommend antidepressant medications as well. There are
several different classes of antidepressants to choose from, including older medications called
monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and tricyclics; selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors
(SSRIs); norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake inhibitors; and others. Despite the differences in
these medications effects on neurotransmitters, chemical properties, side effects, and
pharmaceutical company advertising, they all are EQUALLY EFFECTIVE in treating depression.
The choice between them, therefore, is made on the basis of other factors. When deciding which
antidepressants may be best for a given patient, a doctor should take into consideration several
factors. The first is the patient s history. If a patient has

Underground Railroad Benefits
The Underground Railroad not only benefited slaves, but helped society in numerous ways. The
Underground Railroad was a system abolitionists used to help slaves escape to the North. It
reunited families who were separated by slavery and made life better for the slaves that were
able to escape safely, like Harriet Tubman. People from different backgrounds, races, and religions
were involved in the escapes. The Underground Railroad was very dangerous, for slaves and the
abolitionists who helped them. The Railroad s impactlater led to more freedom for black men and
women in America.

Harriet Tubman made 19 trips to the South, risking her own freedom, to liberate over 300 slaves.
William Still, an African American abolitionist and civil rights activist, helped free nearly 800

abolitionists. In fact, two Quakers, Levi and Catherine Coffin, were believed to have assisted more
than 3,000 slaves in escaping. Vigilance committees, or stockholders contributed money, goods, and
sometimes clothes to the fugitive slaves.
In conclusion, the Underground Railroad was very beneficial to society. It was used by many to
escape the cruelty of slavery. Though there were many dangers involved with the Underground
Railroad, hundreds of thousands of slaves and abolitionists who assisted them took the risk. There
were many people who helped the runaway slaves in any way they could. Though it was a dark

Confucius Statement Of Purpose
Confucius believed that if you, Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in
your life. This philosophy, as later described by Csikszentmihalyi, is the consequence of flow, an
involvement in an activity that causes one to loose track of time. This summer I got caught in the
flow, and time flew by without any recollection as to reality. This summer, I worked as the most
recognizable person in the United States Capitol.
I was a United States Senate Page. What this means is that for the summer session of Congress, I
lived in WashingtonD.C., working in the Upper Chamber, fulfilling the role of a Senate Page in
order to maintain the function of the Senate. In a typical day, we would set up and close up the
chamber, deliver ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was one of the most essential aspects to fully succeed while working. It was easy to get lost
in the politics of the job, the bureaucracy that revolved within working, or just simply being
consumed by the mere vastness, the pace, and the pressure of the job. However, I was able to
resist succumbing to these pressures as a result of the love of the job. Loosing myself in the
flow of this job allowed me to fully extend my best efforts in to any aspect of the job I was doing.
It was easy to be able to make a necessary errand for Senator Rubio or Senator Cruz just because
of the name and the desire service, but when the Republican Cloakroom wanted breakfast
delivered to them because they were not willing to get it themselves, it became much harder to
complete the task with the same fervor, desire, and passion than with that of serving the
Senators. This is where the flow came into play. As a direct response to this flow, I was able to
reallocate the desire of fulfilling all my work in not just the jobs I enjoyed doing, but in all the
jobs that had to be done. I found it easy to try by best in the jobs that garnered the most attention,
serving the Senator who was the Presiding Officer, serving the Senator who needed his speech
attended to, serving the Senator who wanted chocolate out of the Candy Desk. It became much
more difficult to fulfill the tasks that I personally deemed insignificant or not worthwhile of my

Different Kinds Of Polymers And Polymers
A polymer is a large molecule that is made from many small repeating chemicals called
monomers. In the Greek language, polymer literally means many parts. Polymers are being used
more and more in medical devices, such as drug delivery, screws, plates, fixation pins, suture
anchors and many other applications. Some of the most useful polymers for medical uses are
poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(glycolic acid) (PGA). They are useful in medicine because of the
fact that they can degrade within the body to lesser components that will cause very minimal
negative effects. Scientists have found many different ways to control the degradation of these two
polymers. Combining two or more different kinds of monomers during polymerformation is called
copolymerization. Changing the amount of different kinds of monomers during
copolymerization of either poly(lactic co glycolic) (PLGA) or PLA can change degradation
characteristics. [2] For example, combining lactic acid and glycolic acid to make PLGA will
degrade quicker. There are also stereo copolymers, such as L lactic acid, and D lactic acid which
are the same chemical, but are mirror images of each other (figure 1). These can be combined to
also lower the degradation times of PLA or PGLA. Figure 1. Difference between L and D lactic
acids (Gupta et al, 2007)

Essay On Bossa Nova
As Christopher Small, it is true that there is no culture ever disappears but it is transformed over
and over again through the new one (Small, On cultures and their fusion 1998). Bossa nova, means
„new trend‟, is a kind of Brazilian music that is transformed by two fusion; samba and strong
American jazzinfluenced (Wikipedia). It was known in 1957 and 1963 especially among young
students and musicians who would like to bring a complicated combination of melody to be
harmony and be more relaxing rather than using powerful voice and strong meaning. According to
Tom Jobim, one of the fathers of bossa nova, said music is the silence between the notes (Just

Bossa nova becomes well known in worldwide; not only in Brazil and North
America. It is because of convenient communication and easier crossing borders among different
national people by new technologies (Administrator_v 2006). The transnationalism makes the world
be „hybridization‟ and deterritorialization because places are reproducing and transformation

Moreover, most of the current music is produced for business term without recognition of the

Stage two of the process is research proposal, in my situation the proposal was oral, during the
first stage my wife and I discussed the cost of conducting research for the program and we
discussed the pros and cons of the program, the decision was made that the benefits to the business
and the customers outweighed the cost. Our instructors were included in the decision concerning
the plan of conducting research, at this point a lot of my instructors volunteered to assist. The
initial proposal like mentioned before was oral, in the proposal we explained the primary question
of the research, would a boot camp style program fit our current training schedules and thinking,
the overall answer was yes it did. The cost of the research was going to be minimal, the reason for
this was that we decided to conduct the research ourselves and not hire a firm, some of my
instructors have conducted research activities at work and we decided to use some of their
expertise, this saved the business some initial cost.
Third stage of the process is research design, we decided on using a survey, this survey would
ask a simple question, would you be interested in participating in a boot camp style training
program ; the survey would also have various health benefits that would be achieved by doing the
boot camp. We designed the survey to fit individuals in our area and age groups, our targets were

the first settlement of white peoples in their land up until now. It will assess how the system

The Native Americans were forced and paid to leave their traditional lands and either chose to hide
from or join the white people by living on reserves. Their native tongue, teachings and traditions
were soon to be extinct and one man named Ishi and his family went around trying to pass on their
culture to the new inhabitants of their land, The whites. Unfortunately, Ishi died not long after, a
subject of disease. And thanks to his efforts and the efforts of people all around America, white
people began to rally against the government alongside the natives. Native Americans were granted
the same rights as any other American in 1924 and were soon merged in with the rest of society.
In both cases, after a long, hard battle against the white settlers on their land, the Indigenous
Australians and Native American have finally been granted the rights they deserve and have been
accepted by society as a whole. Although, some people may stick to the old mindset, unable to

Short Story Eleven By Sandra Cisneros
In this short story Eleven , Sandra Cisneros tells a story about a little girl named Rachel, who at
a young age, understands the irony of when it comes to life and aging. On her eleventh birthday,
she wished she had turned one hundred and two because she would ve had the courage and ability
to stand up for herself and the knowledge to say what she needed to say to her teacher. Instead, she
went through emotions from when she was younger causing her to seem vulnerable and weak
because she was suppose to acteleven. In the beginning of the story,
Rachel begins saying What they don t understand about birthdays and what they never tell you is

acting a certain age you are currently not but was once before. Being humiliated in front of your
peers, especially by a teacher. Doing everything in your power not to act like a three year old
because you are eleven. Yes I can relate to that feeling. I have on many occasions casted out
emotions of a younger age, due to obstaclas in life that hit me.
Rachel who had turned eleven, wished she was older because she knows she would be getting
the respect she deserved and the courage to have stood up for herself. She responded to her
teacher like a four year old child, stuttering trying to defend the fact that the sweater wasn t hers,
but nothing was coming out to her defense. The teacher insisted that she remember Rachel
wearing the sweater and placed it on her desk. At that point is when the three year old Rachel
wanted to come out and cry because she had been humiliated in front of her peers. But she fought

of her peers. She thought about how she was going home to a celebration because of

Negative Stereotypes Of Gamers
Imagine a world where you can fight dragons in medieval times, be a soldier in WWI, or build a
fortress while gathering resources to survive a zombie apocalypse. Gamers can experience all of
this and more through the world of video games, but many people have developed false perceptions
of who the gamer community consists of. These false perceptions have only formed negative
stereotypes for the gamingcommunity, but the truth is gamers can be anyone.
Stereotype, as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary, is A preconceived and oversimplified
idea of the characteristics which typify a person, situation, etc.; an attitude based on such a
preconception . The gaming community has been labeled with several stereotypes such as all
gamers are immature teenage boys, no life losers, obese, or socially awkward individuals. All of
these stereotypes are far from the truth of what the real gamer community consists of.
So what exactly is a gamer? Gamers are a community of individuals of all ages and gender with
one similar interest in video games. Not every gamer is an immature teenage boy, but this is
what many people think of when they hear the word gamer. I am a 29 year old female, and I
consider myself to be an active member of the gaming community. I play console and PC games
on a daily basis, and I am just one example of why these stereotypes are misconceptions of reality.

Executive Summary
Effects of Technology
The Australian Institute of Criminology has produced documentations explaining the technique of
DNA identification compares the DNA of two bodily samples to ascertain whether or not they came
from the same human being. Identity of DNA in the cells across both samples implies that the
samples are derived from the same person (or identical twins); non identity implies different human
sources.
Beginning in the mid 1980s, the development of DNA analysis technology has revolutionised the
field of forensic science within the criminal justice system. As the refinement of procedures and
technology continues, even minute samples of biological material (including blood, saliva, semen
and skin cells) are able to be analysed and used to link or acquit perpetrators of crimes. (Whitney, R

Macbeth Ambition Research Paper
The Power of Ambition
Ambition is the force that pushes society to make aspirations and dreams a reality.
Although this is normally an admirable quality to possess, one s ambition can easily take over, and
cause damage to not only themselves, but others as well. In William Shakespeare s tragedy Macbeth
, ambition is the motivating factor for characters actions. Resembling a cancer, taking over and
destroying everything in it s path. This is most evident in the character Macbeth whose lust for
power is responsible for his own tragic demise. Macbeth first experiences vaulting ambition after

Racism In To Kill A Mockingbird
It is extremely rare and almost impossible to find someone who has the fearlessness to be so
different that they are able to think and act on their own. Human bias is a huge factor
contributing to the way people think. Every day, humans are influenced by the people around
them which alter individual thoughts. Society is open to assistance when making decisions
because of the fear that they are wrong or different. This is where racism appears and becomes a
problem just because of the impact people have on each other. The most effective way to defeat
fear is by acknowledging it, and in doing so humans learn to fight through their fear which
eventually results in diminishment. The world would become a more delightful, friendly place
where people think and act on their own. Racism would not be an issue in society if people fixed
a major flaw of not thinking for themselves. Humans do not have the courage to say their own

A countless amount of decisions are made every day including those in a courtroom. In the book

Comparing Roman and Greek Art Essay example
Comparing Roman and Greek Art
Throughout history art has consistently reflected the cultural values and social structures of
individual civilizations. Ancient art serves as a useful tool to help historians decipher some
important aspects of ancient culture. From art we can determine the basic moral and philosophical
beliefs of many ancient societies. The differences in arts purpose in Greece and Rome, for
example, show us the fundamental differences in each culture s political and moral system. The
primary objective of Greek art was to explore the order of nature and to convey philosophical
thought, while Roman art was used primarily as a medium to project the authority and importance
of the current ruler and the greatness of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Protogeometric and Geometric periods are good examples of such advanced thinking. The
beginnings of the Protogeometric period display a distinct interest in mathematical order. During
this period, artists decorated vases with circles and symmetrical patterns. As the dominant style
changed from Protogeometric to Geometric, this order and precision was amplified. The popular
?circle and semicircle patterns were replaced by linear designs, zigzags, triangles, diamonds, and
meanders? (Cunningham, 40). The increased interest in order seems to have been a reflection of
the Greek fascination with nature, and man?s relationship to nature.
This interest in the order of nature eventually evolved into a fascination with the human form and
the idea of human perfection. The way in which the perfect human form was portrayed by Greek
artists was of a highly intellectual nature. The early sculptors of the period explored basic human
anatomy and its aesthetic value, creating such sculptures as the Kritios Boy, of the Acropolis. The
precision and realism of this sculpture captured a more accurate portrayal of the human form than
ever before seen. This accomplishment in itself showed strong advancements in intellectual
thought, and inspired future generations to further explore aesthetic and order. Artist such as
Polyclitius later envisioned human perfection as a series of mathematical proportions. The

The Father Of My Father
Every young boy s dream is to grow up and be just like his dad. This was no different for me
during my childhood. As I grew up, I was always watching my dad; observing what he was doing
and how. He always seemed to know what to do in any situation that would arise. Whether it was
fixing the lawn mower, doing some construction to the house, or just something as simple as day to
day conversation. My father is the person responsible for making me who I am today. He taught me
to be empathetic, compassionate, strong willed, motivated and most importantly loving. I can
remember times where I may have done something wrong or bad and he was upset, but never
missed the opportunity to teach me an important life lesson. This showed his true love for... Show

This always spoke to me because I wanted to grow up and be just like my dad too. To this day
this song remains one of my favorites and most influential. Another great thing about driving
with my dad is that we would always stop at a gas station and go inside and get a grape soda. It
was never a Coke or a Pepsi; we always got a grade soda. We would both slowly sip on the grape
soda as we returned home trying to make the sweet grape soda last as long as possible. Those
kinds of experiences that don t seem that important to others are some of the most memorable
moments between us. These interactions taught me the importance of being loving and
compassionate. My father s motivation has always been a characteristic I have admired. He
always puts in the time to do what is necessary even if he doesn t want to. I have definitely
learned to be more motivated from him but I could still use some more help with motivation
regarding school work. Whenever I lack the motivation to do something I think to myself What
would my dad be doing and what am I doing differently. A perfect example of his motivation is
when we were redoing our deck. The boards of our old deck were an ugly brown and were
beginning to split. So he not only rebuilt the deck but also put an addition onto it. After a long day
of work in the scorching summer sun, he would come home and start back to work on the deck.
He would take his shirt off because it had

The Pacific Campaign Of World War II
The Pacific Campaign of World War II showed an uncommon test for the United States. The
Americans were successful for some reasons including the commitment of US General Douglas
MacArthur and the Australian s effect on the war. Numerous Successful attributes identified
with the war were the Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the Battle of Midway and The
Battle of Coral Sea. The Pacific Campaign for the US was initiated after the bombing of Pearl
Harbour which was done by the Japanese forces on December 7, 1941. The attack on Pearl
Harbour quickly aroused an isolated country without hesitation. Public opinion had been moving
towards support for entering the war amid 1941, however extensive resistance stayed until the
assault. Overnight, Americans joined the allies against Japan. American solidarity in the war
exertion most likely made the unconditional surrender position later taken by the Allied Powers.
Many Historians believed that this effort by the Japanese doomed them to defeat because they
had awoken the sleeping giants of the US. Once awoken the US were able to have an immense
impact on the pacific theatres. General Douglas MacArthur s impact on WWII: MacArthur was the
Chief of Staff of the United States Army amid the 1930s and assumed an unmistakable part in the

Why? * The future value will be larger if we compound an initial amount more often than annually.
For example, you deposit $100 in a bank that pays a 10% annual interest rate but credits interest
each 6 months. Therefore, in the second 6 month period, you earn interest on your original $100
plus interest on the interest earned during the first 6 months. 14. Define (a) the stated (or quoted or
nominal) rate, (b) the periodic rate, and (c) the effective annual rate (EAR or EFF%).
(a) The stated rate is the contracted or quoted interest rate and is also referred to as the annual

(b) The periodic rate is the annual percentage rate divided by the number of periods per year.
(c) The effective annual rate is the annual rate of interest actually being earned, as opposed to the

Why Is It Important To Sell To Minors Or Other Incompetent...
There are certain elements a contract must have to be enforceable. Capacity is one of those
elements. Capacity means having the legal and mental ability to enter into binding contracts.
Among those not considered competent are minors (in most states, persons under the age of 18),
persons under the influence of alcohol and other drugs, and people who are mentally ill (Goldman
and Sigismond, 2014, p.130) When dealing with contracts, incompetent parties such as minors, are
treated differently. If an incompetent party enters into an agreement or contract, it is not legally
enforceable. The Law views minors as irresponsible and unable to make rational decisions on their
own. When we make purchases at any store, we are entering into a contract. There are no
exceptions as to who can make a purchase. Because minors cannot... Show more content on

Returns can happen regardless of the store s return policy. Question: If minors can return
purchases in this way, why do retailers continue to sell to minors or other incompetent parties?
Adults can avoid suffering losses by refusing to enter into agreements with minors. If an adult
does deal with a minor, the adult may ask that a parent, guardian, or other adult sign the
agreement along with the minor (Goldman and Sigismond, 2014, p.171). However, when
dealing with businesses and purchases, some of us may look at it differently. There are minors
who are employed and legally make their own money. They have the right to spend their money
whatever way they like. There are some minors who receive an allowance from their parents
weekly and the first place they go to is the mall to buy nice things. Minors have birthdays and
celebrate other holiday s in which they receive money to spend.

How Drug Addiction Detoxification And Rehabilitation...
Drug addiction detoxification and rehabilitation requires time and many steps in order for the
affected person to succeed. Every addict is a fingerprint. The individual biochemistry, social history
and personality of the addict means that each person may respond to different therapies to achieve
success in recovery. Holistic therapies such as nutrition, chiropractic, acupuncture, meditation, art
and music therapy, horse assisted therapy and neurofeedback training are being researched and
employed in various treatment facilities as an adjunct to the more traditional therapies such as
medical detox, individual counseling and behavioral therapies. Even hallucinogenic drugs have
been used safely and effectively as a short term intervention for addictions. The use of these unique
approaches allows more addicts an opportunity for recovery, especially if they were previously
unsuccessful with the more standard therapies. Hallucinogens, such as LSD, ibogaine, peyote and
ayahuasca, are classified as Schedule I drugs with a high potential for abuse and no known medical
uses. However, there is evidence that they might be safe and effective for short term treatments in
addictiondetoxification and treatment. They have a larger safety margin than the major addictive
drugs with a low mortality rate and negligent physical dependencepotential. Research suggests that
their action on serotonin is relevant to addiction treatment because these levels tend to be deficient

is the point/goal of many critics: to gain (or at least appeal to) an audience that has their point of

somehow makes them qualified to tell their readers what is good and/or bad. Both articles take
the stance of stereotyping cultures and what they think when it comes to Jerry Lewis. Stereotyping

How the French view American males during the time is not the fault of Lewis. His work was

Claudius is guilty for murdering King Hamlet: Hamlet was able to confirm this information by
having actors reenact the death of King Hamlet during a scene of their play. After Claudius
discovers that Hamlet killed Polonius, he knows that Hamlet is capable of murder and becomes
fearful that Hamlet will kill him. After Polonius dies, Claudius says I have sent to seek him and
find the body. How dangerous is it that this man goes lose! (4, 3, 1 2 ). Although Claudius
sounds like he cares about the safety of the citizens of Elsinore, he is more concerned about his
own safety, since he is guilty of killing King Hamlet. O heavy deed! It had been so with us, had
we been there. His liberty is full of threats to all To you yourself, to us, to everyone (4, 1, 13 16).
King Claudius makes an effort to include himself into his remark that Hamlet is dangerous and can
pose a threat to not only the town but to himself. Claudius motivation for killing Hamlet is for his
own protection and safety because he believes that Hamlet is a threat. Another major factor of
Claudius motivation to kill Hamlet could be that he is defending his innocence when accused of
killing Polonius. Laertes immediately assumes that Claudius was responsible for his father s death
when he came back from France. Once Laertes believes that Claudius is innocent, Claudius uses
this opportunity to take advantage of Laertes

Impact Of Trade On The International Trade Market
The international trade of goods across the world accounts for approximately 60% of the world
Gross Domestic Product (The World Bank, 2014). A great proportion of goods transactions occur
every second. The primary question is whether international trade benefits a country as an entirety,
and, if so, why would a country implement protective trade policies to restrict particular exports? To
address this question, this essay aims to explore the impact of trade on various economic
stakeholders, including consumers, producers, labour and government and, furthermore, will

Consumers definitely benefit from increasing purchasing power in terms of lower relative prices.
Nonetheless, the real prices of certain commodities such as lamb, tobacco and beef have
increased over time due to increasing world average income, which encourages world demand.
Interestingly, developing countries, which form the predominant exporters of primary
commodities, earn lower relative prices over time, for instance, palm oil arrives primarily from
Indonesia and Malaysia and raw sugar arrives mostly from Brazil and Thailand. Contrariwise, the
world suppliers of lamb are the United Kingdom, Spain and Australia and, moreover, 14% of world
bovine meat arrives from the United States (Simoes, 2013). Therefore, it can be argued that greater
advantages are granted to suppliers in developed countries than those in developing countries by
trade liberalisation.
Aside from the impact on price, the opening of an economy attracts imports into the domestic
country, which results in the provision of variety for consumers. For example, eleven mobile phone
companies control 66.6% of the world market share, inclusive of Samsung, Sony, Apple, Nokia and
Huawei. These companies originated in Korea, Japan, United States, Finland and China
respectively (Williams, 2015). Consumer s gain from choice and, therefore, higher utility can be

America truly is in trouble. The voter turnout should be, in my opinion, atleast 75% of the total

this problem. As it may help the overall volume of voters, I feel it will diminish the percentages
of voter participation. A more likely cure: put America back into our young Americans! When I
was a child we were all much more patriotic than the kids of present America. We sang songs of
patronage in music class, we spoke the Pledge of Alegience, and the Fourth of July was about

United Nations Peacekeeping Development And Crisis
United Nations Peacekeeping Development and Crisis
Abstract
The objective of the paper is to review the development of United Nations peacekeeping forces.
After World War II, the United Nations had been given new opportunities to help control and
resolve conflicts. As a result, new tasks and new method had to be adopted in order to adapt the fast
world changing situation and continue growing conflicts which could endanger the international
peace. Therefore, the UN peacekeeping forces play a very important role in keeping peace in
conflict regions. This paper also examines some crisis UN is now facing. It examines whether state
participation in UN peace keeping results from a state s idealistic commitment to the global
community and international peace or whether participation is tied to the state s national interest.
With the high profile of UN peace keeping in this post Cold War era, the answer to this inquiry may
suggest to us whether the emerging international system will be organized on the principles of
community or self.

Academy Ratio Essay
With the original motion picture format, each frame as tall as four perforations with an aspect
ration totaling 1.375:1. It was originally designed by Thomas Edison and was used for years by
film companies. When sound became common in movies, the image ratio was changed to 0.860
inches by 0.820 inches.
The History of Academy Film
Originally, silent films used a 1.33 aspect ratio. This meant that every frame had negative space
accounting for four perforations. The frame line was extremely thin, so this had to be changed to
account for the soundtrack. In the 1920s, studios created a stripe next to one of the perforations for
sound recordings. Meanwhile, the image was cut to 1.19, which made it appear taller. For
audiences who were used to the previous films, the new size was disorienting. More importantly,
exhibitors had problems using the new frame with their screens and projectors.
To keep up with the changes, each studio changed their ratio to different levels. These conflicting
changes were unique to each movie theater change and created problems for theater owners.
Finally, the major studios met in November of 1929 to figure out a solution. They decided to
create a set size of 0.800 inches by 0.600 inches for an aspect ratio of 1.33:1.

Improving Quality Of Dairy Housing Essay
Improving Quality of Dairy Housing in Kenya

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
CHAPTER TWO
2.1.INTRODUCTION
Good dairy housing design requires knowledge of the various dairying concepts and applying this
knowledge to building construction to create a facility that provides quality performance in its
suitability for the cows accommodation and efficiency in the facility operations. This chapter
covers existing literature related to the topic of research that will help in informing the research.
This chapter will further outline key design factors to be considered in dairy housing.
2.2.GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS
An efficient management of cattle will be incomplete without a well planned and adequate housing
of cattle. Improper planning in the arrangement of animal housing may result in additional labour
charges and that curtail the profit of the owner. During erection of a house for dairy cattle, care
should be taken to provide comfortable accommodation for an individual cow. No less important is
the proper sanitation, durability, and efficient arrangement plan for the stalls and production of
clean milk under convenient and economic conditions, etc. (TNAU, 2009)
There are a number of statements within the Code of Recommendations for the Welfare of Livestock
: Cattle published by Defra (2003) regulations that relate to the accommodation for animals
outlining the minimum requirements for dairy cattle welfare extracted from The Welfare of

4) What is an agency relationship? = It is the relationship between stockholders and
management. Such a relationship exists whenever someone (the principal) hires another (the
agent) to represent his or her interest. 5) What are agency problems and how they come about?
What are agency costs? = Agency problem is the possibility of conflict of interest between the
owners and management of a firm. They arise because the agent s and the principal s interests
are not aligned. Maybe a real estate agent doesn t get paid a commission but rather gets paid a flat
fee. Then the agent just wants to make a sale rather than get the highest price for the seller. =

U.S. Companies alternative listing standards To provide an alternative set of listing standards
for companies organized outside the United States that meet the normal size and earnings
measures for NYSE listings, the NYSE will consider the acceptability of such companies shares
and shareholders on a worldwide basis. In view of the widespread use of bearer shares in other
countries, in contrast to the U.S. practice of registered shares, a company would find difficulty in
certifying the requirement of 5,000 round lot shareholders on a worldwide basis. Therefore, the
NYSE requires that a member firm attest to the liquidity and depth of the market for the company
s shares. These standards would apply only where a broad, liquid market for a company s shares in
the company s home market exists. Continued Listing The appropriateness of a continued listing of
a security on the NYSE cannot be measured mathematically. The NYSE may at any time suspend or
delist a security where continued dealings in the security are not

All these speculations were only based on theories made by many scientists and apparently it
began 4.6 billion years ago with the gravitational collapse of small part of a giant molecular cloud.
Apparently the small collapsing mess collected in the centre and formed Sun, while the rest
flattened into a proto planetary disk out which the planets, moons, asteroids and other small solar
system bodies formed. This idea of the solar nebula was first formulated by the Prussian
philosopher and physicist Immanuel Kant in 1755 and this idea to the problem was only
qualitative because it was similar to those taken fundamental today. This model was first developed
in the 18th century by these scientist Emmanuel Swedenburg, Immanuel Kant and Pierre Simon
Laplace. Its subsequent development has interwoven a variety of scientific disciplines including
astronomy, physics, geology and planetary science. Since the dawn of the space age in the 1950s
and the discovery of extrasolar planets in the 1990s, the model both challenged and refined to

The Information Age, as defined by Gloria K. Fiero, is dominated by radical changes in the technology of communication and the way we receive and process information (Fiero, 476). The Information Age paved the way for several brilliant artists to not only share their work, but create their work. Artists, such as Andy Warhol, expressed their artistic abilities in the most unimaginable, yet creative approaches. In the case of Andy Warhol, Warhol created pop art, which artistically expresses popular culture in means of creating a compelling commercial advertisement. Furthermore, in the realm of... Total art is expressed in the form of performance and ritual. Additionally, total art can take several different forms such as raves, flash mobs, and basically any moment that an individual would describe as art. Furthermore, Pop art is more of an extension of traditional art, yet the art is expressed in a manner that grabs the attention of an individual witnessing the painting. Pop art seems simplistic, however, pop art also seems to be loud and eye piercing. Andy Warhol, the artist behind the creation of pop art, received the idea of pop art through his experiences as a commercial artist. Since western consumerism seamlessly began to expand, Warhol gave advertisements more life and personality in order to capture the attention of the audience. These drugs work in many different ways, but are intended to treat serious psychological disorders such as depression. They can be prescribed by any medical doctor, however, and are often used even when they are not clearly indicated as necessary or even effective. Americans are increasingly turning to antidepressants as a quick fix to real or perceived psychological problems that can often be treated more efficiently in other ways with less risk to their physical well being. Many people with mild to moderate depression can be successfully treated with psychotherapy and other non medical interventions such as bright light; exercise; relaxation techniques; eliminating the use of substances like recreational drugs, alcohol and caffeine; getting regular sleep; eating a balanced diet; and stress reduction. But when these interventions have been tried and failed, or when a patient s depression is severe enough to interfere with their ability to function in their work, relationships, and self care, doctors will recommend antidepressant medications as well. There are several different classes of antidepressants to choose from, including older medications called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and tricyclics; selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs); norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake inhibitors; and others. Despite the differences in these medications effects on neurotransmitters, chemical properties, side effects, and pharmaceutical company advertising, they all are EQUALLY EFFECTIVE in treating depression. This philosophy, as later described by Csikszentmihalyi, is the consequence of flow, an involvement in an activity that causes one to loose track of time. This summer I got caught in the flow, and time flew by without any recollection as to reality. This summer, I worked as the most recognizable person in the United States Capitol. I was a United States Senate Page. Loosing myself in the flow of this job allowed me to fully extend my best efforts in to any aspect of the job I was doing. It was easy to be able to make a necessary errand for Senator Rubio or Senator Cruz just because of the name and the desire service, but when the Republican Cloakroom wanted breakfast delivered to them because they were not willing to get it themselves, it became much harder to complete the task with the same fervor, desire, and passion than with that of serving the Senators. This is where the flow came into play. As a direct response to this flow, I was able to reallocate the desire of fulfilling all my work in not just the jobs I enjoyed doing, but in all the jobs that had to be done. I found it easy to try by best in the jobs that garnered the most attention, serving the Senator who was the Presiding Officer, serving the Senator who needed his speech attended to, serving the Senator who wanted chocolate out of the Candy Desk. • 12. Different Kinds Of Polymers And Polymers A polymer is a large molecule that is made from many small repeating chemicals called monomers. In the Greek language, polymer literally means many parts. Polymers are being used more and more in medical devices, such as drug delivery, screws, plates, fixation pins, suture anchors and many other applications. Some of the most useful polymers for medical uses are poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(glycolic acid) (PGA). They are useful in medicine because of the fact that they can degrade within the body to lesser components that will cause very minimal negative effects. Scientists have found many different ways to control the degradation of these two polymers. Combining two or more different kinds of monomers during polymerformation is called copolymerization. Changing the amount of different kinds of monomers during copolymerization of either poly(lactic co glycolic) (PLGA) or PLA can change degradation characteristics. [2] For example, combining lactic acid and glycolic acid to make PLGA will degrade quicker. There are also stereo copolymers, such as L lactic acid, and D lactic acid which are the same chemical, but are mirror images of each other (figure 1). These can be combined to also lower the degradation times of PLA or PGLA. Figure 1. The popular ?circle and semicircle patterns were replaced by linear designs, zigzags, triangles, diamonds, and meanders? (Cunningham, 40). The increased interest in order seems to have been a reflection of the Greek fascination with nature, and man?s relationship to nature. This interest in the order of nature eventually evolved into a fascination with the human form and the idea of human perfection. The way in which the perfect human form was portrayed by Greek artists was of a highly intellectual nature. The early sculptors of the period explored basic human anatomy and its aesthetic value, creating such sculptures as the Kritios Boy, of the Acropolis. The precision and realism of this sculpture captured a more accurate portrayal of the human form than ever before seen. This accomplishment in itself showed strong advancements in intellectual thought, and inspired future generations to further explore aesthetic and order. • 26. The Pacific Campaign Of World War II The Pacific Campaign of World War II showed an uncommon test for the United States. The Americans were successful for some reasons including the commitment of US General Douglas MacArthur and the Australian s effect on the war. Numerous Successful attributes identified with the war were the Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the Battle of Midway and The Battle of Coral Sea. The Pacific Campaign for the US was initiated after the bombing of Pearl Harbour which was done by the Japanese forces on December 7, 1941. The attack on Pearl Harbour quickly aroused an isolated country without hesitation. Public opinion had been moving towards support for entering the war amid 1941, however extensive resistance stayed until the assault. Overnight, Americans joined the allies against Japan. American solidarity in the war exertion most likely made the unconditional surrender position later taken by the Allied Powers. Many Historians believed that this effort by the Japanese doomed them to defeat because they had awoken the sleeping giants of the US. • 28. Why? * The future value will be larger if we compound an initial amount more often than annually. For example, you deposit $100 in a bank that pays a 10% annual interest rate but credits interest each 6 months. Therefore, in the second 6 month period, you earn interest on your original $100 plus interest on the interest earned during the first 6 months. 14. Define (a) the stated (or quoted or nominal) rate, (b) the periodic rate, and (c) the effective annual rate (EAR or EFF%). (a) The stated rate is the contracted or quoted interest rate and is also referred to as the annual percentage rate (APR). (b) The periodic rate is the annual percentage rate divided by the number of periods per year. (c) The effective annual rate is the annual rate of interest actually being earned, as opposed to the quoted rate. 15. What is the EAR corresponding to a nominal rate of 10% compounded semiannually? Compounded quarterly? • 29. Why Is It Important To Sell To Minors Or Other Incompetent... There are certain elements a contract must have to be enforceable. Capacity is one of those elements. Capacity means having the legal and mental ability to enter into binding contracts. Among those not considered competent are minors (in most states, persons under the age of 18), persons under the influence of alcohol and other drugs, and people who are mentally ill (Goldman and Sigismond, 2014, p.130) When dealing with contracts, incompetent parties such as minors, are treated differently. If an incompetent party enters into an agreement or contract, it is not legally enforceable. The Law views minors as irresponsible and unable to make rational decisions on their own. Consumers definitely benefit from increasing purchasing power in terms of lower relative prices. Nonetheless, the real prices of certain commodities such as lamb, tobacco and beef have increased over time due to increasing world average income, which encourages world demand. Interestingly, developing countries, which form the predominant exporters of primary commodities, earn lower relative prices over time, for instance, palm oil arrives primarily from Indonesia and Malaysia and raw sugar arrives mostly from Brazil and Thailand. Contrariwise, the world suppliers of lamb are the United Kingdom, Spain and Australia and, moreover, 14% of world bovine meat arrives from the United States (Simoes, 2013). It was originally designed by Thomas Edison and was used for years by film companies. When sound became common in movies, the image ratio was changed to 0.860 inches by 0.820 inches. The History of Academy Film Originally, silent films used a 1.33 aspect ratio. This meant that every frame had negative space accounting for four perforations.
