Remember The Blind Side
Football inspires people in many different ways. It can help them achieve a goal, finish school, have
a sense of belonging, and even bring a community together. These are the key elements that Boaz
Yakin, director of Remember the Titans, and John Lee Hancock, director of The Blind Side, thought
of when they popularized their stories into films. While you can find both movies in the Drama/
Sport section, each of the movies has their unique qualities that draw us into the real life stories of
these young men. Roger Ebert, movie critic, who reviewed Remember the Titans, stated, "Real life
is never simple, but then that's what the movies are for –– to improve on life, and give it the illusion
of form and purpose." Character developments that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can see this happen when Michael is interviewed as to why he made his school decision. The
theme of these two movies are similar yet have slight differences that convey different times in
history. In Remember the Titans, racial discrimination is the theme that the whole movie revolves
around. As the setting is Virginia 1971, the early days of mandated desegregation laws, this film
plays around with showing the difficulties of merging two different races, communities, and schools.
Similarly in The Blind Side, racial discrimination is one of the major themes that the movie
addresses. While in a different time period, the same treatment is shown to main character, Michael.
The setting being in the south, creates a different dimension of racial discrimination that is
stereotypical of the southern united states. Coupled with racial discrimination is the theme of the
kindness of family. This being the second of the major themes, when michael finds a family that
welcomes him with open arms he dismisses it at first, but then grows to love having the support he
has secretly wished for his entire

Case Study : Health Risk And Sport Participation
Case Analysis 8.10: Health Risk and Sport Participation
The following is a case study analysis on Case 8:10 Health Risk and Sport Participation. This
particular case involves five individuals, all of which are employed and or playing for the athletic
department at BTU University. One of the individuals in this case is star BTU football linebacker
A.B. Another individual is BTU Head Football Coach J.M. In addition to A.B and J.M, the other
individuals associated with this particular case are the head football trainer, the team physician for
the football team as well as the Director of Athletics for BTU N.P. This particular case all revolves
around star linebacker A.B who recently established a record for most tackles in a single season
(Malloy, 2003, pp. 160).
The problem developed when A.B lay paralyzed on the field during spring training during his junior
year but shortly thereafter he recovered with only slight numbness once he tackled someone. The
numb sensation was felt in his arms and legs, which placed extreme pressure on his nerves.
Thereafter, A.B was referred to a neurosurgeon, which performed an X–Ray as well as an MRI
which led to the prognosis that A.B suffered from spinal stenosis. Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of
the spinal cord which, puts athletes especially football players such as A.B at an even greater risk for
injury. Following that appointment, A.B went to get a second opinion regarding the situation, and
the verdict was still the same.

She had a lot of leeway, as Shorty did not want to be involved and spend his time with the

department, on the other hand, made a lot of money and required a lot of oversight.
Elko and Speedo were the receivers; they were both workers' but had a little more authority than the

Sergey had a number of girls as assistants. They were all attractive and caught Japes fancy. Now that
Japes had made it as an executive, he realized that romance with a subordinate would be
inappropriate. So there would be no romance, but he certainly spent fruitful working hours in the
girl's company and helped make their lives fun. A union in a hotel is the most ridiculous thing Japes
had ever seen. Unions for servers were marginally necessary many years ago as the Bulls had
abused workers and paid terrible wages. Hotel work, for the housekeeping department, was all about
routine. Although it is hard physical work when one becomes proficient at it can be rewarding.
These servers got paid a low–wage and deserved every penny they made. The extra monies that the
union got for these servers, was taken up in paying their dues to the union representatives. It made
no sense to Japes at that hotel or any hotel he would work at in the future. In fact, the maintenance
and front office departments chose not to join the union. They realized that the only ones that
benefited from the union were the union reps themselves. The hotel was poorly organized and there
were times that the housekeeping department did not have enough linen to make up guest rooms.
The housekeeping staff, especially the maids, would leave at a specific time. Japes and All–in on a
few occasions would join Sergey and her assistants

New team members are also given "training mentors" to help them adapt to the initial environment,
making their first smoothie, ringing up at their first purchase, and ect. These training mentors help
ease the process of learning new material and provide them with a sense of instant support and a
teamwork feel. Upon training, new team members also receive a "bingo" card (see attached) that
must be signed off every time a new objective is learned. Throughout the bingo card there are
practices and evaluations, and at the end there is a "whirl pinning ceremony." At this ceremony the
new team member receives their whirl to wear on their apron signifying that they made it and are an
officially "informed" Jamba employee. This bingo card and "reward" at the end is motivating and
provides a visual and tangible appeal to finishing the training process. During training is when
Jamba focuses on their key strategies of great customer service, "wowing" the customer and always
leaving the customer with a smile. Training does not stop after the first month but continues
throughout the course of employment. Roughly every month a new project or initiative comes out
and each team member and manager must take a "product knowledge test" to see how well they
understand the product and to ensure that they will be able to communicate the benefits to the
customer. Being tested on material reinforces

Four Seasons Goes to Paris: "53 Properties, 24 Countries, 1 Philosophy"
Europe is different from North America, and Paris is very different. I did not say difficult. I said
different. – A senior Four Seasons manager In 2002, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts was arguably
the world's leading operator of luxury hotels, managing 53 properties in 24 countries and delivering
what observers called "consistently exceptional service." For Four Seasons, that meant providing
high–quality, truly personalized service to enable guests to maximize the value of their time,

of compassion." Excuses were not tolerated at Four Seasons: "Oh, but we have just been open a

The Blind Side Michael Oher Analysis
In the film The Blind Side, directed by John Lee Hancock, one important character that changes
throughout the film is Michael Oher. John Lee Hancock delivers an important message that you
don't have to be blood to be family, and that with love and support you can overcome obstacles.
John Lee Hancock shows the audience that this is true and that the love and support of a family can
change a whole person's life, as we get to see the changes to Michael Oher's life. John Lee Hancock
used the film techniques of close ups, over the shoulder and reverse angle shots, and dialogue to
show how Michael Oher changes.
Michael Oher is an important character in the film, The Blind Side. Throughout the film this
important character changes because of the love and support he gets from a family. At the beginning
of the film we see Michael Oher as a big black boy, who's homeless, is uneducated, he's poor,
unwanted, quiet, shy and has no confidence. One freezing, wet night he has nowhere to go. Leigh
Anne Tuohy, a white, wealthy, well–dressed, confident, happily married mother, finds him on the
road and invites him home with her and her family. This is when Michael Oher begins to change.
Leigh Anne Touhy gives him a bedroom, home, food, clothes, education and a future. Most
importantly, she give him love, and a family. Michael Oher changes when he gets a new family, and
he is able to overcome obstacles with hard work, and the love and support from his new family. The
message that it delivers is that you don't have to be blood to be family. At the end of the film, the
director shows Michael Oher as the opposite person of who he was at the beginning of the film. We
see that Michael Oher gets offered scholarships by many universities because he learns how to play
football, and by the hard work and determination he became a pro at it and therefore becomes a
football star.
Michael Oher changes through the movie. He changes through the messages that John Lee Hancock
delivers that you don't have to be blood to be family, and that with love and support of a family, you
can overcome obstacles. Just because he was black, huge and athletic, he was judged. Everybody
assumed that because he was huge, black and athletic, he would be

Deadly Unna and Australian rules comparative essay
How is sport used by the author/director to explore important themes or issues?
Deadly Unna? a novel by Philip Gwynne and Australian Rules, a film adaptation of the novel,
directed by Paul Goldman are both set in an Australian town, focusing on two different locations –
the Port, inhabited by white people, and the Point where the Aboriginal people live. Both texts
follow the progress of a hopeless football team coming together to play in the grand final. The novel
explores the enlightenment of the protagonist, fifteen–year old Gary Black, or commonly known as
Blacky, and his realisation and recognition of the world around him. Everyone assumes that the

The author specifically chose these two characters, which have different race because the idea of
friendship is more emphasized in comparison if Blacky was friends with a person of the same race.
An example in the film showing the power of the bond of friendship was when Blacky was selected
to be the 'ruck' for the team and Dumby was the only person in the football team that supported
Blacky: "You'll be all right Blacky, good on ya." This shows the strong bond of the friendship
between Dumby and Blacky as Dumby encourages Blacky even though his task as being the 'first
ruck' in the football team seems almost impossible. An example in the film showing the bond of
friendship is through the romantic relationship between Blacky and Clarence. Due to Dumby's
passion for football, sport has allowed Dumby's sister Clarence and Blacky to meet, and build up
their relationship despite their different race. Their deep romantic relationship can be shown in the
close–up scene where Clarence and Blacky were under the jetty. The director intentionally placed
the light at the side of their faces when Clarence and Blacky stared at each other. This emphasizes
their facial expressions and their eyes to reinforce romantic atmosphere. However, this love would
not have existed if Blacky had not thought rationally and changed some of the Australian rules.
The importance of independence and personal courage is also shown through sport in both the novel
and the film.

The company was not all about the corporate headquarters, but more in tune with the individual
plants. Each plant had either a general manager or a group manager. "The group manager or plant
general manager had control of the day –to–day decisions that affected the group or plant's
profitability" (Thompson, Strickland, & Gamble, 2010). These general managers report to the
assigned VPs at headquarters. This gives each plant a sense of independency where they are able to
make their own decisions on how their plant will be ran. Many other companies would be hesitant to
implement such a open door policy but this obviously has worked for them. The main concept is to
decentralize their operations mas much as possible. Each section does their own thing their own

General managers must operate at a capacity and efficiency to make a 25 percent return for the

Stereotyping of Bend It Like Beckham and Billy Elliot

because of this but Jess plays football behind her back. In Billy Elliot, the boy starts to dance and

The director uses happy music when Billy dances in front of his dad to make it look like he is
fighting against the stereotyping. When Billy's brother has a go at the teacher when she says that
Billy missed a dance audition, this is stereotyping because the brother has a go at the teacher and
says that he would be embarrassed to have a brother that dances and that he doesn't want a gay for a
brother. This is stereotyping against dancers and gays, because not all dancers are gay, just because
they like dancing and there isn't anything wrong with being gay just as long as u don't try and get
other people to join you. During this part of the film, the director uses sad rock type music to show
anger from his brother. After this part, Billy starts dancing to release his anger, this type of music is

Although the superintendent has the authority to hire and fire teachers, it would be within his best

beginning he was a dubious supporter of Barnhart as athletic director. He has no proof that she

Understandably, he is doing so to balance teacher rights and promoting harmony within the work

The culture of the company is built on customer service, team building and a fun environment. The

Doughnut Shop Case Interview Questions
While interviewing Mrs. Beamon, owner and operator of the Wilson Doughnut Shop, I asked her a
series of questions that I and others could benefit from. Mrs. Beamon took over the Wilson
Doughnut Shop in 2008 and there were many things that needed to be changed. First I asked Mrs.
Beamon why and or what made her want to take over the Wilson Doughnut Shop. Mrs. Beamon's
answer was simple, she wanted to create jobs for people. She then went on to tell me that in the
beginning family members were supposed to work there but that isn't exactly the case now. I then
went on to ask about who owned the Doughnut Shop before she did and the answer to that question
was Mr. Tony Stone. While there was someone running the Wilson Doughnut Shop before Mrs.

Roman Abramovich In The Great Gatsby
Roman Abramovich is football's Gatsby, chasing the ever–receding green light
"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded
us then, but that's no matter–tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. And then one
fine morning– So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past." – Nick

the advice he gets is not just a rehashed version of his own opinions and thoughts about the football

With issues as deep–rooted as this, the notion that Chelsea can lure Pep Guardiola in the summer

General Management Training at Meadowlea Dairies
This report will give an overview of the current training and induction given to general managers
and an evaluation of its effectiveness. Appropriate revision of the process will be completed
including the realisation of a plan of action for required improvements.
2. Introduction
Meadowlea wishes to improve the training giving to the General Manager on their appointment to
the position. This re–evaluation is occurring because: –
· Trainees have complained of boredom during the training period
· Trainees have indicated that the training received did not adequately prepare them for the job.

Orientation programmes should enable a new employee to quickly become a productive member of

· Initial Training for Job Role
Initial Training should be designed to ensure that the employee has all the knowledge, skills and
abilities required in order to carry out his day to day duties.
This would include organisation, budgeting, management and leadership skills.
4. Effectiveness of the current training scheme
The following four criteria will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the training scheme;[1]
Reaction Criteria, Learning Criteria, Behavioural Criteria, Results Criteria.
In this case General Managers have complained of boredom during the training period. They have
also indicated that they were not adequately prepared for the job. Thus the effectiveness of the
training scheme is low, as it fails under reactive criteria.
The cases study also states that training has "not been successful". Assuming that this is the view of
the company, then I can only suppose that the effectiveness of the training scheme is also low due to
its failure under results criteria, that is to say that General Managers are not producing the desired
results upon starting their employment.
5. Criticisms of the process
My first criticism of the training is that it takes a year to

Good To Great Level 5 Leader
There are five levels to James Collins' book, "Good to Great" (Curtis & Manning, 2015). Level 5
leaders have personal humility and professional will. I do not know many Level 5 leaders
personally, but one I could classify as one would be my lead at Ryder Logistics. Even though he was
not a supervisor or a logistics manager, he does have the characteristics of a Level 5 manager.
Personal humility includes a leader who is never boastful, acts with determination, relies on group
success rather than being selfish and taking all the credit, never blame other people for his mistakes
or the customer, and looks for ways to improve (Curtis & Manning, 2015). My lead never boasted
about his success'. For example, when he received an interview offer for the transportation
supervisor or even when the assistant general manager approached him with the offer of a
supervisor, possible logistics manager position within the warehouse, he never went around boasting
about his success. Instead, he allowed his work and the success of his team to show what he was
capable of. He was also never selfish of the success of his team. When our department had no

In the article "When Theodore Roosevelt Saved Football" by Bruce Watson he explains how

The article begins in 1905 when football took the spotlight not because it was a popular, but because
of the violence and unfairness that occurred during the games. With Multiple deaths and countless
injuries, the lack of regulations during the game started turning heads. Thankfully Theodore
Roosevelt who was president at the time, was asked to intervene by prep school headmasters after
his own son made the headlines each time he was injured while playing. Roosevelt who enjoyed the

Careers in Lodging and Food and Beverage Industries
The hospitality industry is a very lucrative and rewarding career choice. Choosing a career in this
field is not for the faint at heart. A career in this industry requires an individual that is ambitious,
self–motivated, and has a charismatic personality. However, the hard work comes with many
personal and financial rewards. Hospitality covers all careers that can come underneath the lodging,

They must provide owners with a reasonable return on investment, keep guest satisfied and
returning, and keep employees happy. This may seem easy, but because there are so many
interpersonal transactions and because hotels are open every day, all day, the complexities of
operating become challenge that the general manager must face and overcome. The GM not only
focuses on leading and operating the hotel departments but also on aspects of the infrastructure,
from room atmosphere to security (Walker, 2013).
If a restaurant is inside of a hotel, then the food and beverage division is overseen by the general
manager of the hotel. In this scenario the person that runs the food and beverage division is referred
to as the director of food and beverage. In this case, the director reports to the general manager of
the hotel. However, if there is a free standing restaurant, bar, or lounge; there is a general manager
who is responsible for the entire operations of that establishment. If the restaurant, bar, or lounge is
a freestanding establishment, the owner will sometimes double as the general manager and do the
job on their own without hiring someone. Sometimes owners will hire an individual to fill the job as
General Manager, especially if they have invested in a restaurant and do not have any experience in
how to run it properly.

coworker that employers/employees dread. They constantly had to pick up the slack from Mike to
keep up with daily demands. Mike would constantly show up late for work and PT, which
eventually came to the attention of his leadership and then went further to his comrades getting in
trouble for allowing this to occur. He showed a lack of enthusiasm every day and gossiped a lot
about other companies and employees. Mike enjoyed talking back to supervisors, or so it seemed.
Mike would waste company time by hiding, taking multiple smoke breaks, as well as taking office
supplies from the supply closet. This coworker was lazy and we constantly found him sleeping in
unoccupied offices. Mike did not agree with people managing him and would tend to get into

Moral And Rhetorical Analysis Of 'Remember The Titans'

moral/ethical issues and dilemmas in a non–literary text to understand how the director and writer
uses texts structures, language and visual feature to influence viewers. The source that will be
analysed within this speech is 'Remember the titans". Remember the titans is a 2000 American
sports film directed by Boaz Yakin. It follows the real life journey of a newly appointed African
American coach and a high school team on their first season as a racially diverse unit. Throughout

The film brings to light many moral dilemmas such as the fact that two different races have to work
together against their wills to win a game they love. Body 2 Moral dilemmas have been presented
throughout the film Remember The Titans. This includes the moral dilemma that 'Whites' and
'Blacks' from two different football teams are forced to come together and play for the rest of the
season. Despite many riots and complaints about the sudden change, the people must obey due to
government commands. A particular scene that shows this dilemma is the high school scene. During
the film, there was a scene that occurred where the director shows both schools conjoining the
'Blacks and 'Whites. While transitioning, the camera shows many angry rioters and parents against
this dilemma, showing their anger through signs that have racial slurs and discrimination. The way
the director has presented this scene to the audience, helps them open up to the fact or statement that
certain dilemmas pushed onto people can turn into an important outcome. They want the audience to
feel that even though this situation at the time did not seem fair, it was still necessary to ensure a
change to occur in the future. By using visuals such as the camera angle and zoom up on certain
faces and signs in the scene, it helped effectively reinforce the directors intended message. Body 3:
Many characters within the movie had been faced with moral dilemmas and issues. A particular

Compare And Contrast Football And Ballet
Even though football and ballet are both physically demanding sports, they are strikingly differently
in many ways. For example, the venues that these athletes perform in is different. Football players
perform in a stadium, whereas ballet dancers perform in a theater. Another difference is that football
and ballet dancers train for different results. In football, training focuses more on endurance, as a
player will need to play for a long period of time in a game, but in ballet, it focuses more on balance
and coordination. These two sports also differ in what fans do before the game, and what they wear
going to these events. For example, football fans tailgate and wear jerseys for a football game,
however ballet fans have receptions and wear suits and dresses. Furthermore, the way that these
athletes present themselves is different in both sports. Ballet dancers must always look graceful
when performing, whereas football players can play rough and rigid when performing. While there
may be many differences between football and ballet, there is also many similarities between them.
It is important to understand that both have "stars" and "extras", both practice, both wear

The Management Team At My Hotel
After failing the Marriott audit on February 10th the management team at my hotel had a three hour

miserably, so that is where management concentrated almost all of their effort on improving their
score. The woman from the Bistro that made a score of zero was allowed to stay on with a warning.
The week after the audit she came into work and hour late for two of her shifts and just decided not

shift without calling, but no she was given one more chance. The Bistro had a mandatory meeting

Rhetorical Analysis On Remember The Titans
FIRST TEETEEEP The director of the film "Remember the Titans", Boaz Yakin uses the technique,
dialogue, to show how the football team, the Titans, from T. C. Williams, a high school in
Alexandria, Virginia, USA helped their city to overcome racism. The dialogue in the particular scene
when the Titans were in their locker room for a halftime break during the football game and Coach
Boone (Denzel Washington) gives them a motivational speech is "You taught this city how to trust
the soul of a man rather than the look of him and I guess it's about time I joined the club." This

The background music or soundtrack is usually used in films or scenes to emphasise the general
emotion that the director wants the viewer to feel. It is used in the background of the scene, where
the Titans are playing the second half of the game. It is a song with a very upbeat and hopeful tune,
that has very positive lyrics. The soundtrack in the previous scenes were very suspenseful and
intense, so the sudden change of background music is contrasting. Since the Titans had gone into the
game with a bad start, the Titans had a team talk in their changing room and came out suddenly
picking up their game and getting a lot of good tackles. The soundtrack is used in this scene to give
more the viewer to emphasise how energetic and hopeful the Titans are feeling. In this scene, the
side of the Titans are celebrating the tackles that are being made by the Titans. The players are
tackling each other for the ball and the Titans are seen stealing the ball from the opposing team. The

vascular division. Hardy had no prior operating experience and was unable to offer Peterson any

was not sure whom he would be reporting to which could mean further delays in getting approvals
on his decisions. 3) Unsatisfactory Interpersonal relations: Peterson failed to establish pleasant
relations with Dr. Scott Green and Karen Cantor both of whose work he challenged and criticized
during his orientation in SciMat. There was a possibility that some of his team members (Andrews

internal conflicts between some of the team members which made it more difficult to concentrate on
the final goal of product launch. 4) Inability to build and lead a team: As per the case, there is no

Bob Quinn Case Study

Quinn was back in front of the media at the NFL Combine and continued that stance by saying, "this

being in the pre–poll era and the other 11 coming from wire–service, also known as the Associated
Press and Coaches poll. Alabama's football program has amassed 889 victories, 30 conference
championships, and appeared in a NCAA–record 64 bowl games. The organization also holds two
more NCAA–records of most ten–win seasons–34, and most bowl victories–37. Alabama also
claims a winning record against every university currently associated with the Southeastern
Conference ("Alabama Media Guide: National Team Champions," 2017).
Alabama's football program has experienced major success in multiple eras, most notably in the
years 1958–1982 and again from 2007–present day. The first of these two dynasties was brought on
with the hiring of Paul "Bear" Bryant who went on to lead the program to six national
championships and 13 Southeastern Conference championships. A current dynasty also exists in
Tuscaloosa, AL, following the introduction of Nick Saban as Alabama's head football coach in 2007.
Nick Saban brought in a winning dynamic to a program in desperate need of a culture change and
has transformed the organizational structure of Alabama football forever. Saban's approach to

Remember The Blind Side

  • 1. Remember The Blind Side Football inspires people in many different ways. It can help them achieve a goal, finish school, have a sense of belonging, and even bring a community together. These are the key elements that Boaz Yakin, director of Remember the Titans, and John Lee Hancock, director of The Blind Side, thought of when they popularized their stories into films. While you can find both movies in the Drama/ Sport section, each of the movies has their unique qualities that draw us into the real life stories of these young men. Roger Ebert, movie critic, who reviewed Remember the Titans, stated, "Real life is never simple, but then that's what the movies are for –– to improve on life, and give it the illusion of form and purpose." Character developments that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You can see this happen when Michael is interviewed as to why he made his school decision. The theme of these two movies are similar yet have slight differences that convey different times in history. In Remember the Titans, racial discrimination is the theme that the whole movie revolves around. As the setting is Virginia 1971, the early days of mandated desegregation laws, this film plays around with showing the difficulties of merging two different races, communities, and schools. Similarly in The Blind Side, racial discrimination is one of the major themes that the movie addresses. While in a different time period, the same treatment is shown to main character, Michael. The setting being in the south, creates a different dimension of racial discrimination that is stereotypical of the southern united states. Coupled with racial discrimination is the theme of the kindness of family. This being the second of the major themes, when michael finds a family that welcomes him with open arms he dismisses it at first, but then grows to love having the support he has secretly wished for his entire ... Case Study : Health Risk And Sport Participation Case Analysis 8.10: Health Risk and Sport Participation The following is a case study analysis on Case 8:10 Health Risk and Sport Participation. This particular case involves five individuals, all of which are employed and or playing for the athletic department at BTU University. One of the individuals in this case is star BTU football linebacker A.B. Another individual is BTU Head Football Coach J.M. In addition to A.B and J.M, the other individuals associated with this particular case are the head football trainer, the team physician for the football team as well as the Director of Athletics for BTU N.P. This particular case all revolves around star linebacker A.B who recently established a record for most tackles in a single season (Malloy, 2003, pp. 160). The problem developed when A.B lay paralyzed on the field during spring training during his junior year but shortly thereafter he recovered with only slight numbness once he tackled someone. The numb sensation was felt in his arms and legs, which placed extreme pressure on his nerves. Thereafter, A.B was referred to a neurosurgeon, which performed an X–Ray as well as an MRI which led to the prognosis that A.B suffered from spinal stenosis. Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal cord which, puts athletes especially football players such as A.B at an even greater risk for injury. Following that appointment, A.B went to get a second opinion regarding the situation, and the verdict was still the same. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Betty, like Sergey, was a worker that Shorty had promoted into management. She had a lot of leeway, as Shorty did not want to be involved and spend his time with the restaurant. The restaurant made no money and was strictly an amenity to the facility. The banquet department, on the other hand, made a lot of money and required a lot of oversight. Elko and Speedo were the receivers; they were both workers' but had a little more authority than the average bear. Elko took care of the paperwork and Speedo did all the heavy lifting. They were responsible for all of the inventories, including the liquor and were required to stock the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sergey had a number of girls as assistants. They were all attractive and caught Japes fancy. Now that Japes had made it as an executive, he realized that romance with a subordinate would be inappropriate. So there would be no romance, but he certainly spent fruitful working hours in the girl's company and helped make their lives fun. A union in a hotel is the most ridiculous thing Japes had ever seen. Unions for servers were marginally necessary many years ago as the Bulls had abused workers and paid terrible wages. Hotel work, for the housekeeping department, was all about routine. Although it is hard physical work when one becomes proficient at it can be rewarding. These servers got paid a low–wage and deserved every penny they made. The extra monies that the union got for these servers, was taken up in paying their dues to the union representatives. It made no sense to Japes at that hotel or any hotel he would work at in the future. In fact, the maintenance and front office departments chose not to join the union. They realized that the only ones that benefited from the union were the union reps themselves. The hotel was poorly organized and there were times that the housekeeping department did not have enough linen to make up guest rooms. The housekeeping staff, especially the maids, would leave at a specific time. Japes and All–in on a few occasions would join Sergey and her assistants ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

New team members are also given "training mentors" to help them adapt to the initial environment, making their first smoothie, ringing up at their first purchase, and ect. These training mentors help ease the process of learning new material and provide them with a sense of instant support and a teamwork feel. Upon training, new team members also receive a "bingo" card (see attached) that must be signed off every time a new objective is learned. Throughout the bingo card there are practices and evaluations, and at the end there is a "whirl pinning ceremony." At this ceremony the new team member receives their whirl to wear on their apron signifying that they made it and are an officially "informed" Jamba employee. This bingo card and "reward" at the end is motivating and provides a visual and tangible appeal to finishing the training process. During training is when Jamba focuses on their key strategies of great customer service, "wowing" the customer and always leaving the customer with a smile. Training does not stop after the first month but continues throughout the course of employment. Roughly every month a new project or initiative comes out and each team member and manager must take a "product knowledge test" to see how well they understand the product and to ensure that they will be able to communicate the benefits to the customer. Jitters' was the assistant general manager and was a skittish server. This was the only time in Japes career that he saw a server placed in such a poor position. Jitters had a little bit of a Kiva in him as he always did what Shorty told him to do. He was not independent of thought and showed true difficulty in making a decision. He was always nervous whether conducting a meeting or simply walking the hall. An honest server and a good citizen of the hotel, but in the wrong role for someone so ill–prepared. He was seen from time to time in the public space of the hotel with Mr. London. Mr. London', was the President of the Hotel Division and was responsible for all the general managers and their assistants. He was from Europe and was the one who insisted on complying with the demanding work schedule. He would openly berate Jitters at the top of his lungs in front of everyone. He would publicly embarrass him to make a point. The only point he was trying to make was that he was in charge and all the servers would fall in line. The only real communication Japes had with Mr. London started as Mr. London one day decided to raise his voice at Japes. Japes, in a calm manner, directed Mr. London to the side of the lobby and said loud enough for any server to hear, "Take your condescending attitude and leave, I don 't know who you think you are but you will never talk to me in that fashion!" I did not say difficult. I said different. – A senior Four Seasons manager In 2002, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts was arguably the world's leading operator of luxury hotels, managing 53 properties in 24 countries and delivering what observers called "consistently exceptional service." For Four Seasons, that meant providing high–quality, truly personalized service to enable guests to maximize the value of their time, however the guest defined doing so. A manager who stayed on with Four Seasons described the Four Seasons due diligence team that came to the property as "very professional and not pretentious; detail oriented; and interested in people. They did not come telling me that all I did was wrong," he remembered, "and showed a lot of compassion." Excuses were not tolerated at Four Seasons: "Oh, but we have just been open a year" or "The people here do not understand" were not acceptable statements. Customer service extended to all levels in the organization: managers routinely helped clear restaurant tables in passing. Strong allegiance to the firm Four Seasons' top management team was noted for its longevity, many having been at the firm for over 25 years. Both corporate and field managers often referred to the firm as a "family," complete with rules, traditions, and tough love. There was a strong "one firm sentiment." • 25. The Blind Side Michael Oher Analysis In the film The Blind Side, directed by John Lee Hancock, one important character that changes throughout the film is Michael Oher. John Lee Hancock delivers an important message that you don't have to be blood to be family, and that with love and support you can overcome obstacles. John Lee Hancock shows the audience that this is true and that the love and support of a family can change a whole person's life, as we get to see the changes to Michael Oher's life. John Lee Hancock used the film techniques of close ups, over the shoulder and reverse angle shots, and dialogue to show how Michael Oher changes. Michael Oher is an important character in the film, The Blind Side. Throughout the film this important character changes because of the love and support he gets from a family. At the beginning of the film we see Michael Oher as a big black boy, who's homeless, is uneducated, he's poor, unwanted, quiet, shy and has no confidence. One freezing, wet night he has nowhere to go. Leigh Anne Tuohy, a white, wealthy, well–dressed, confident, happily married mother, finds him on the road and invites him home with her and her family. This is when Michael Oher begins to change. Leigh Anne Touhy gives him a bedroom, home, food, clothes, education and a future. Most importantly, she give him love, and a family. Michael Oher changes when he gets a new family, and he is able to overcome obstacles with hard work, and the love and support from his new family. The message that it delivers is that you don't have to be blood to be family. At the end of the film, the director shows Michael Oher as the opposite person of who he was at the beginning of the film. We see that Michael Oher gets offered scholarships by many universities because he learns how to play football, and by the hard work and determination he became a pro at it and therefore becomes a football star. Michael Oher changes through the movie. He changes through the messages that John Lee Hancock delivers that you don't have to be blood to be family, and that with love and support of a family, you can overcome obstacles. • 37. Deadly Unna and Australian rules comparative essay How is sport used by the author/director to explore important themes or issues? Deadly Unna? a novel by Philip Gwynne and Australian Rules, a film adaptation of the novel, directed by Paul Goldman are both set in an Australian town, focusing on two different locations – the Port, inhabited by white people, and the Point where the Aboriginal people live. Both texts follow the progress of a hopeless football team coming together to play in the grand final. The novel explores the enlightenment of the protagonist, fifteen–year old Gary Black, or commonly known as Blacky, and his realisation and recognition of the world around him. Everyone assumes that the three main 'Australian rules' are that all Australians are equal, Australians believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author specifically chose these two characters, which have different race because the idea of friendship is more emphasized in comparison if Blacky was friends with a person of the same race. An example in the film showing the power of the bond of friendship was when Blacky was selected to be the 'ruck' for the team and Dumby was the only person in the football team that supported Blacky: "You'll be all right Blacky, good on ya." This shows the strong bond of the friendship between Dumby and Blacky as Dumby encourages Blacky even though his task as being the 'first ruck' in the football team seems almost impossible. An example in the film showing the bond of friendship is through the romantic relationship between Blacky and Clarence. Due to Dumby's passion for football, sport has allowed Dumby's sister Clarence and Blacky to meet, and build up their relationship despite their different race. Their deep romantic relationship can be shown in the close–up scene where Clarence and Blacky were under the jetty. The director intentionally placed the light at the side of their faces when Clarence and Blacky stared at each other. This emphasizes their facial expressions and their eyes to reinforce romantic atmosphere. However, this love would not have existed if Blacky had not thought rationally and changed some of the Australian rules. The importance of independence and personal courage is also shown through sport in both the novel and the film. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When Billy's brother has a go at the teacher when she says that Billy missed a dance audition, this is stereotyping because the brother has a go at the teacher and says that he would be embarrassed to have a brother that dances and that he doesn't want a gay for a brother. This is stereotyping against dancers and gays, because not all dancers are gay, just because they like dancing and there isn't anything wrong with being gay just as long as u don't try and get other people to join you. He has no proof that she contacted the reporter so is basing his decision on the weak legal footing of assumption. Understandably, he is doing so to balance teacher rights and promoting harmony within the work place which ultimately supports student learning. Several court cases provide guide lines for achieving this balance. The cases of Pickering v. Board of Education (1968) and Connick v. Myers (1983) developed a two pronged test to check the balance. First, does the speech address matters of public concern? Assuming Barnhart did contact the reporter, yes, the information is a matter of public concern since it involves Title IX, a federal civil law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in education activities. • 118. Moral And Rhetorical Analysis Of 'Remember The Titans' Good morning/Afternoon Mr Harrop and fellow peers, Introduction Today I will be analysing the moral/ethical issues and dilemmas in a non–literary text to understand how the director and writer uses texts structures, language and visual feature to influence viewers. The source that will be analysed within this speech is 'Remember the titans". Remember the titans is a 2000 American sports film directed by Boaz Yakin. It follows the real life journey of a newly appointed African American coach and a high school team on their first season as a racially diverse unit. Throughout their journey, they are faced with many moral and ethical dilemmas such as peer pressure and racial differences. Textual structure and Visual features such as camera ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The film brings to light many moral dilemmas such as the fact that two different races have to work together against their wills to win a game they love. Body 2 Moral dilemmas have been presented throughout the film Remember The Titans. This includes the moral dilemma that 'Whites' and 'Blacks' from two different football teams are forced to come together and play for the rest of the season. Despite many riots and complaints about the sudden change, the people must obey due to government commands. A particular scene that shows this dilemma is the high school scene. During the film, there was a scene that occurred where the director shows both schools conjoining the 'Blacks and 'Whites. While transitioning, the camera shows many angry rioters and parents against this dilemma, showing their anger through signs that have racial slurs and discrimination. The way the director has presented this scene to the audience, helps them open up to the fact or statement that certain dilemmas pushed onto people can turn into an important outcome. They want the audience to feel that even though this situation at the time did not seem fair, it was still necessary to ensure a change to occur in the future. By using visuals such as the camera angle and zoom up on certain faces and signs in the scene, it helped effectively reinforce the directors intended message. Body 3: Many characters within the movie had been faced with moral dilemmas and issues. A particular character that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 131. Compare And Contrast Football And Ballet Even though football and ballet are both physically demanding sports, they are strikingly differently in many ways. For example, the venues that these athletes perform in is different. Football players perform in a stadium, whereas ballet dancers perform in a theater. Another difference is that football and ballet dancers train for different results. In football, training focuses more on endurance, as a player will need to play for a long period of time in a game, but in ballet, it focuses more on balance and coordination. These two sports also differ in what fans do before the game, and what they wear going to these events. For example, football fans tailgate and wear jerseys for a football game, however ballet fans have receptions and wear suits and dresses. Furthermore, the way that these athletes present themselves is different in both sports. Ballet dancers must always look graceful when performing, whereas football players can play rough and rigid when performing. While there may be many differences between football and ballet, there is also many similarities between them. It is important to understand that both have "stars" and "extras", both practice, both wear uniforms/equipment, both have coaches, and both need speed/focusness. First of all, ... Everyone was aware that a Marriott auditor would be coming back anonymously within sixty days. The Bistro part of the audit was the area that failed miserably, so that is where management concentrated almost all of their effort on improving their score. The woman from the Bistro that made a score of zero was allowed to stay on with a warning. The week after the audit she came into work and hour late for two of her shifts and just decided not to show up for another shift. I would like to say that management fired her after she skipped her shift without calling, but no she was given one more chance. The Bistro had a mandatory meeting the next morning and she was going to be allowed to continue working at The Courtyard if she decided to show up. She obviously did not show up for the meeting and finally management decided to let her go. Every person in management had been warned about this woman by almost every member of the front desk staff. They could have saved themselves from failing audit by listening. A new employee was hired for the bistro, he has worked for a different Courtyard Bistro and is well trained. Every morning after the manager's meeting a member of management would come in to evaluate and monitor the Bistro. I was very impressed with Ashley Miller who is our head of sales. The dialogue in the particular scene when the Titans were in their locker room for a halftime break during the football game and Coach Boone (Denzel Washington) gives them a motivational speech is "You taught this city how to trust the soul of a man rather than the look of him and I guess it's about time I joined the club." Since the Titans had gone into the game with a bad start, the Titans had a team talk in their changing room and came out suddenly picking up their game and getting a lot of good tackles. The soundtrack is used in this scene to give more the viewer to emphasise how energetic and hopeful the Titans are feeling. In this scene, the side of the Titans are celebrating the tackles that are being made by the Titans. Erik Peterson at Biometra: Case Analysis ERIK PETERSON AT BIOMETRA–CASE ANALYSIS EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Biometra is a small company based in the Boston suburb of Woburn which was recently acquired by Scientific Materials (SciMat), in order to deepen its portfolio in vascular medical devices. Biometra focused chiefly on catheters, or tubes used to drain or inject fluids or to allow access of surgical instruments for medical procedures. The catheter would be the first product ever launched by Biometra and so its success was critical for both the companies. Due to the lack of managerial experience, Peterson is not able to multi task and juggle various responsibilities in order to address the current issues. 2) Uncertain organization structure: After Peterson joined Biometra, without any formal communication instead of reporting directly to Jenkins he was assigned to Jeff Hardy, vice president of planning and control for the peripheral vascular division. Hardy had no prior operating experience and was unable to offer Peterson any helpful advice or guidance. Due to lack of effective communication from the leadership, Peterson was not sure whom he would be reporting to which could mean further delays in getting approvals on his decisions. 3) Unsatisfactory Interpersonal relations: Peterson failed to establish pleasant relations with Dr. Scott Green and Karen Cantor both of whose work he challenged and criticized during his orientation in SciMat. There was a possibility that some of his team members (Andrews and Miczek) resented his sudden promotion to General Manager. Peterson was also in the midst of internal conflicts between some of the team members which made it more difficult to concentrate on the final goal of product launch. 4) Inability to build and lead a team: As per the case, there is no fact to suggest that Erik Peterson made efforts to unite his team to achieve a very ambitious goal of launching the catheter in the stated period. Bob Quinn Case Study After Bob Quinn's initial press conference back in January we were able to learn that he is a no nonsense kind of guy and he will not simply tell the fans and media what they want to hear by promising winning seasons and championships. This statement is proof that Bob Quinn and his staff recognize that the Lions need help.
