European Imperialism Dbq Essay
For the 300 years between 1500 and 1800,European nations traded for slaves, gold, and ivory along the
west coast of africa, but they did not go deeply into the continent. In the 1880s Africa was under full
assault as European nations competed with one another for control of the continent. The driving force
behind European imperialism is power and they gain it by getting control and resources of Africa and
they justify it all by saying it was their duty as more civilised nations to make other nations as
civilized as theirs.
The first thing that European countries needed was control over Africa and many countries tried to do
so and this led to competition between almost all nations. This can be seen in document A because it
shows a map of the many locations other countries have taken as theirs. Control was a big factor in all
of this but it is only one of the many factors that comes in when a country wants power.
The next thing that the European countries needed was resourses for the mother country can get more
wealthy and better in supply. This can be seen in document D, and E because document D shows the
exports from Africa and how the mother country is using the resources to further the country s power
by advancing in technology, and document E shows the many imports and ... Show more content on

Document B shows a very good example of nation pride which also contributed to european
imperialism for example John Ruskin, lecture at Oxford University, february 8, 1870, and Friedrich

tells US to take part in imperialism this is an example of national pride for the US to colonize. These
two documents show one of the many things that was the drive of European

Re: Recognition of Asset Retirement Obligations for Lack of Information
Date: June 2, 2014
Background
Lack of Information (LOI) owns and operates 50 warehouses throughout the country. As part of LOI s
efforts to identify potential asset retirement obligations, LOI s internal audit group held interviews
with all 50 of the warehouse managers and also performed site visits at each of the 50 locations. The
related findings of the interviews and site visits noted the following facts:
Number of Warehouses

ASC 410 20 25 8 indicates that an asset retirement obligation is estimable if all of the following exist:
1. The settlement date or the range of potential settlement dates
2. The method of settlement or potential methods of settlement (The term potential methods of
settlement refers to methods of settling the obligation that are currently available to the entity...)
3. The probabilities associated with the potential settlement dates and potential methods of
settlement... Although LOI contends that it will not have to settle the actual retirement obligation, the
transfer of the obligation to the future buyer represents a form of settlement. The guidance in ASC 410
20 25 5 requiring the recognition of both an asset retirement cost and asset retirement obligation upon
acquisition of an asset with an asset retirement obligation indicates that the transfer of the obligation
to another party represents an effective settlement of the obligation by the seller.
Thirteen Warehouses With State Laws to be Operated Indeterminately
As noted above, the state laws create an asset retirement obligation for the 13 warehouses that will
continue to operate indeterminately. LOI s contention that it will operate these warehouses indefinitely
through continued maintenance is invalid since ASC 410 20 does not permit

Adenosine binds onto receptors on the brain cells, which causes people to feel the tiredness and
laziness; however, because the two molecules are very similar, caffeine too is able to block the
receptors. The excess adenosine is converted into adrenaline which most people are used to
experiencing when drinking coffee, a sense of alertness and energy for about 4 6 hours. It also helps
the natural stimulants work better, so, in a way, caffeine is a stimulant for stimulants. All of this
information culminates in the fact that these stimulants that are activated due to the caffeine are what
cause the heart to beat rapidly, either too fast for the daphnia to survive, or just enough that they are
more active, like humans are when ingesting caffeine. Caffeine also causes hunger as the body is in an

Romeo And Juliet Forbidden Love Essay
Forbidden love
Romeo and Juliet can be one of the most controversially plays spoken about. This magnificent work of
Shakespeare has readers keenly attached to the story evaluating the slightest of actions that contribute
to the results. The play holds many events that are argued about but the biggest controversy that
Shakespeare voluntarily implements in his play are the cause and contributions that lead up to the
death of the two lovers Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. The firsts person who contributed to the
death of Romeo and Juliet is Romeo himself. Romeo continued to see Juliet even though he knew the
dangers of doing so. Romeo states With love s light wings did I O perch these walls; for stony limits

keep the two lovers safe. He even warns Romeo to be careful of loving too fast, Friar Laurence
marries Romeo and Juliet knowing the great dangers that could come with the act. Friar Laurence
states So smile the heavens upon this holy act that after hours with sorrow chide us not (II,iii,1 2 ). By
this Frier means, may the heavens so bless this act that we won t regret it in the future, he warns
himself not to regret his action of marrying the two. Not only did Frier marry the two but he also plans
to bring the two lovers together after Romeo s banishment from Verona. Friar Laurence sent a letter to
Romeo regarding his plan that Romeo doesn t receive and leaves Romeo with no knowledge of Friar
Laurence s plan. This causes Romeo to believe that Juliet is dead and motivates him to take his life
beside her moments before Friars arrival and ironically leads to Juliet s death. For a man with a wise

The Portrayal of Lady Brett Ashley as the Modern Woman of...
Women of the 1920 s compared to women today are seen as very passive and were usually domestic
wives whose main responsibility was to take care of the house and children. But throughout this
decade, women were starting to slowly modernize and become more independent. In The Sun Also
Rises by Ernest Hemingway, Lady Brett Ashley is somewhat portrayed as the admirable new woman
of the 1920 s the woman who openly flaunts accepted conventions of the passive, dependent female
role in society and emerges as a positive, inspiring, and risk taking figure in Paris, Pamplona, and
Madrid among the male expatriate artists. In the novel, we see Brett as a modern and somewhat
inspiring woman through characterization and the analysis of specific moments ... Show more content

This is admirable and inspiring because it gives a role model to other women during these years.
There were probably many women who felt bored with their life in the shadow and who wanted to
live the same life as Brett but were too afraid of other people s reactions. But although Brett may have
set a role model for other women, she still had her flaws, one of them being that she was very
promiscuous and had several affairs, leading men on to think that she cared for them, for so to ditch
them for someone else. One very good example of this is her relationship with Jake. She cared deeply
for Jake, but kept on hurting him, not necessarily intentionally, by her not wanting to be in a
relationship with him due to his impotents. After Jake and Brett depart in Pamplona, Jake goes to San
Sebastian, but quickly after his arrival, he receives a telegram from Brett who was in trouble, and
needed Jakes help. The telegram said: Can you come to hotel Montana Madrid, am rather in trouble,
Brett (Hemingway 209). The reason Brett is contacting Jake to help her is because she has decided to
leave Romero, her 19 year old lover whom she left to Madrid wit. Brett knows how strongly Jake feels
about her, and knows that he will always be there for her when she is in trouble, something that is
proven when Jake says: Well, that means San Sebastian all shot to hell. I suppose, vaguely, I had

Importance Of Writing Reflection
When I had signed up for this class, I thought it was going to be similar to a humanities course. I
thought that we would be learning about how journaling has evolved and various ways to journal. As
the class progressed, I found it to be more of an art than a humanities class. When this reality did not
match my expectation, I was disappointed. I had to challenge myself to get the most out of this course
by changing my attitude and adjusting my perspective.
As an art class, this would have been an excellent idea and well executed. Being able to learn about
different materials, binding techniques, and adhesives were helpful in the creation of journals, but it
was not what I had expected. One thing that stands out to me was the research paper, it just did not
seem to fit into the class very well. Most of the students did not know how to use Chicago Style
referencing properly and there was not any class time allotted to learning it nor to working on the
essays. It seemed to be used to check a box rather than to help our understanding. I think that this
essay would have fit into the course much better if we had been spending time in class learning about
various historical journalists and how their work impacted the region in which it was created. It just
did not seem as though our homework matched our class work, so I was a little thrown off. This
imbalance was especially apparent because the room was deemed technology free, so we could not
even work on our essays while in class.

Why Roller Derby Should Be An Olympic Sport
In 2024, or as soon as 2020, roller derby should be an Olympic sport. I find that roller derby is just as
entertaining and interesting as the sports currently in the Olympics such as canoe sprint, cycling, golf,
rowing, sailing, and table tennis. Those examples are from the Summer Olympics. The Winter
Olympic sports include curling, luge and skeleton.
Roller derby is a rapidly growing sport. At this moment, there are 469 female roller derby teams in the
world. To make a team you need at least 12 people. Taking these numbers into consideration, if you
multiply 469 by 12, you would have a minimum of 5,628 people playing roller derby around the
world. This figure does not even include men s roller derby leagues or junior leagues. Junior derby is
generally split into age groups of 5 12 years old and 12 17 years old. ... Show more content on

Derby is a sport that has many things happening at once. On the track, players must trust their team,
communicate with their teammates and strategize while in play. Every team has a different name for
the strategies they use. Roller derby is a game that s really fast, therefore you have to think fast, as
well as act fast, there is no time to just stand there and be confused. Fans of major professional sports

Girl Model Documentary
Images in the media today project an unrealistic and even dangerous standard of feminine beauty that
can have a powerful influence on the way women and young girls view themselves. From the
perspective of the mass media, thinness is idealized and expected for women to be considered
attractive. Images in advertisements, television, and music usually portray the ideal woman as tall,
white, and thin. In the documentary, Girl Model, young Siberian girls look forward to leaving the lives
of poverty and are promised the glamorous life of a model. The documentary was filmed in Tokyo,
where girls from the Siberian countryside went to with promises of a profitable career. This location is
important because it is where all of the action is takes places. This is where the modeling industries
are and where the model strive to go to. In the beginning of the documentary there is the introduction
of the filmmakers and on a former model scout, Ashley, who is a self aware, yet delusional
protagonist. The filmmakers sense she is enough of a narcissist to cooperate with them in revealing the
depth of her loneliness, and self absorption. The beginning tends to focus on the modeling industries
but the viewers aren t told of the conflict. In the middle, there is rising action and the conflict is also
set in stone. The conflict in the film is what Ashley believes, and her experiences versus what Ashley
knows, and her fear of leaving what she knows. There are clips of video diaries that are

Comprehensive Sex Education And Comprehensive Sex Education
Around the country views on sex education differ strongly, typically more religiously affiliated
states promote abstinence while liberal states are in favor of comprehensive sex education.
While both abstinence only sex education and comprehensive sex education aim to shield teens
from the possible dangers of sex, they strongly disagree on what information should be taught
and the outcome said information will have on teens.
Many parents have a strong opinion on how much information their children should be taught,
ranging from nothing at all to everything from human anatomy, STD s, gender studies, and sex
education for queer teens. According to an article titled Comprehensive Sex Education is

Irony Of Empathy In Raymond Carver s Cathedral

Looking beyond Empathy is the ability to understand and vicariously share the feelings and thoughts
of other people. Empathic feelings are fundamental for humans in social and interpersonal life because
they enable human beings to tune their mental states to their social environment as well as to
understand others intentions, actions, and behaviors. In particular, empathy for pain is a source of deep
emotional feelings and a strong trigger of prosocial behavior. In the fictional short Cathedral , written

Essay on Fire Imagery in Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre
Fire Imagery in Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre
Incomplete Works Cited
The prevalence of fire imagery and it s multitude of metaphoric uses in Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre
expresses two things that could not be expressed openly in the Victorian Period, which are mainly
passion and sexuality. Brontes writing was dictated by the morals of her society, but her ideas were
not. Jane Eyre was written with the Victorian reader in mind. Bronte knew that if she were to write
about these two things directly she would have to face possible rejection of her book. A resolution to
this dilemma was to awaken the audience in a way that society deemed not only respectable, but also
acceptable. So Bronte creates Jane, and Jane becomes the embodiment of ... Show more content on

In this passage from the novel, Jane begins to understand what will become of her if she gives into the
consuming passion that she often feels:
A ridge of lighted heath, alive, glancing, devouring, would have been a great emblem of my mind
when I accused and menaced Mrs. Reed; the same ridge, black and blasted after the flames are dead,
would have represented as meetly my subsequent condition. (69; ch. 4)
Bronte takes the fire and transforms it to illustrate the image of sexuality and passion. By doing this,
she also proposes the way in which internalized feelings of opposing ideas give into self depleting
energy through the loss of self control. Here, Jane has the fear of becoming like Mrs. Reed. She comes
to the realization that if this is not what she wants to be like, then she must keep her passions under
control. Otherwise, she could become black and blasted after the flames have died. This is presented
to embody what Victorian society believed to be true and is a fine example of everything that it
despises, which is namely the expression of passion. The fulfillment of self becomes the foundation of
society s views, on which the fears of women and their passionate behaviors are laid.
Indeed, fire and tumult are major themes within the novel, but these images also invade Victorian
arguments pertaining to a women s place in society, and the possible consequences that could occur if

The Common Reasons Of Lao Illness Essay
The primary belief system across Laos is that all individuals and objects have various souls. This
animism, along with the idea of reincarnation and ancestral worship, has a direct link to their
healthcare. Among the Lao populous spirituality is exceptionally connected to their views of illnesses.
Either the sins of one have angered their ancestors, or one has lost a soul because of their misdeeds or
actions. With a combination of natural and super natural causes, a Hmong individual believes illness
can befall them. A list of common reasons of Lao illness is as follows: accidents, infectious disease,
curses, spells, and any taboo violation. The Hmong believe so strongly that illness is caused by some
supernatural cause, they may request a multitude of health services when visiting the US. Generally,
modern healthcare practitioners have a tendency to be scarce in Laos. The rural populations traditional
healing is relied on by shamans, herbalists, magic healers, and other s not trained as well in western

are assigned. For example, someone who diagnoses physical illnesses may be a herbalist. The
herbalist will then dispense herbal medications for treatments. A second example would be contacting

Country Music Analysis Essay
The genre of this song would be identified to be country, honky tonk, and blues. I discovered the
country sound right off the bat when I began to play the recording. It was easy to identify the genre
being country because of its sub genre of the honky tonk sound and blues. The basic honky tonk sound
features acoustic and/or electric guitar, fiddle, string bass, and steel guitar (which was imported from
Hawaiian music), while the vocals often draw from the so called high lonesome sound of traditional
country, sounding either rough and nasal (Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb) or smooth and clear (Lefty
Frizzell, George Jones) (All Music). I also thought that this music had a Nashville sound based on the
theme of the song. The Nashville Sound kept the theme of heartbreak, without the angsty uncontrolled

It is somewhat easier to determine because music was recorded due to the ways the genre of music has
changed over time. It s this generation that is buying vinyl, and it s musicians of the same generation
who are making the records, experimenting with tape recorders and enthusing about analogue sound
(Fox 1). Music that has been played in the 1940 s, for example, Bouquet of Roses by Eddy Arnold
(1948) and A Room Full Of Roses by George Morgan (1949), share the same qualities of audio sound
of the mystery music. From the soothing lyrics and similar sounding instruments being used like the

sounds more clearly engineered that it is easily to recognized that it was recorded much more later
after the 1950 s because the 1950 s sound seems more muffled. It is important to recognize how the
sound of music is being engineered over time. There are many audio engineers till this day trying to

Italian Education Vs American Education Essay
One thing in common from all the countries in the world is that they have an education system. In
school, students learn the basic subjects such as mathematics, english, science, social studies, and
other extra subjects if offered. Students don t think about the importance of basic subjects that affects
their everyday life that they got from the school years of education. Although the school system seems
like it s all the same from all the countries, it is not. How the school organize each subject, each grade
level, and the requirements for each school fall to a different situation. The education system such as
in the United States and Italy happens to be an example of that.
When the school year starts, students in Italy and the United States start and end around the same
time, mid September to mid June. The school year happens to be divided in two terms for Italian and

Apply: Atoms are most stable when their outermost shell is full. If their outermost shell is not full,
atoms tend to gain, lose, or share electrons until the shell fills up. While doing this, atoms react and
form chemical bonds with other atoms.
Based on this, what can you infer about the reactivity of helium and neon? They are both noble gases
so they are very resistant to a chemical reaction and don t react to other elements.
11. Think and discuss: Select the PERIODIC TABLE tab, and look at the second row, or period, of the

Question: How do the radii of atoms change across a period of the periodic table?
1. Predict: Positively charged protons in the nucleus of an atom are attracted to negatively charged
electrons.
How do you think the atomic radii will change as electrons are added to a shell?
As more electrons are added the distance will increase which cause atomic radius to change.

Forecasting Techniques For Planning Purposes
Forecasting Techniques for Planning Purposes All organizations that supply goods or services to
another business or consumer look at demand forecasting for planning purposes. Young (2010) stated
for most organizations, the marketing department will forecast the demand for both the short and long
term planning and the operations department will work closely to set a production forecast based on
these demands. When forecasting, organizations must take into consideration all the possible factors
that will affect the supply/demand. These factors include trends, seasonality, competitive pricing,
sudden changes in demand, economic conditions, labor and strikes, and more. In today s business
world, forecasting is not just a necessity, but also a means of survival, which is why predicting the
future, is so important for the short and long term success of an organization. As the northeast vice
president of operations for McDonalds, I have the complex and challenging role of ensuring accurate
forecast are submitted for the internal and external demand for our products. In this paper, I will
describe the demand techniques used for both my short term and long term planning and why these
techniques are most affective. Additionally, I will explain what decisions each forecast supports.
Finally, I will detail which departments need my forecast information and why.

was gathered using self administered measures; with no objective measures used to assess leadership

The results of the focused interview revealed that the major stress related factors in the ICUs pointed
to: shortages of knowledgeable nurses, absenteeism, doctors demands, and lack of support from
management as well as colleagues, and the stress caused by temporary nurses acquired from the
agencies. Recommendations were made towards nursing unit management, further nursing research,
and nursing education. The limitations to this study are that the female participants are in the majority
compared to the male participants and the sample size was rather limited in number, which limits the
potential to generalize the results of this research. Ounder Basim surveyed 248 nurses from five
hospitals in turkey in 2007 to identify the occupational burnout profiles of a sample of nurses, and to
examine alternative developmental models based on these profiles. The Maslach Burnout Inventory

coworkers and supervisors. The results of the study revealed that a higher level of emotional
exhaustion was invariably associated with higher level of depersonalization. However, higher
emotional exhaustion or depersonalization is not always associated with lower accomplishment. It was

Anabolic Androgenic Steroid Abuse in Professional Sports Anabolic androgenic steroids are a huge
problem amongst today s athletes. The use of these drugs has been around for many years in sports.
Understanding anabolic androgenic steroids and why people take them is needed in the process of
trying to eliminate them from professional sports. Also, players knowing and understanding how the
negatives of anabolic androgenic steroid use outweigh the positives will hopefully help new players
who are looking for an edge on the competition to refrain from the use of anabolic androgenic
steroids. Along with the harmful side effects players can experience from anabolic androgenic steroid
abuse, it also hurts the integrity of professional sports as a whole. Allowing players access to
intervention programs and treatment can help to curb the widespread use of AAS. My goal in this
paper is to show what anabolic androgenic steroids are, why they impact sports in a negative way, and
why they give professional athletes an unfair advantage and shouldn t be a factor in sports. Anabolic
androgenic steroids and other performance enhancing drugs has always been a forbidden thing in
sports, but have just recently come into the spotlight again. According to Machado and Cortez Pinto,
Anabolic androgenic steroids are synthetic derivatives of testosterone, the main male sex hormone

Android Application Development Fundamentals
Application Fundamentals
Quickview
Android applications are composed of one or more application components (activities, services,
content providers, and broadcast receivers) Each component performs a different role in the overall
application behavior, and each one can be activated individually (even by other applications) The
manifest file must declare all components in the application and should also declare all application
requirements, such as the minimum version of Android required and any hardware configurations
required Non code application resources (images, strings, layout files, etc.) should include alternatives
for different device configurations (such as different strings for different languages ... Show more

Another component, such as an activity, can start the service and let it run or bind to it in order to
interact with it. A service is implemented as a subclass of Service and you can learn more about it in
the Services developer guide.
Content providers A content provider manages a shared set of application data. You can store the data
in the file system, an SQLite database, on the web, or any other persistent storage location your
application can access. Through the content provider, other applications can query or even modify the
data (if the content provider allows it). For example, the Android system provides a content provider
that manages the user s contact information. As such, any application with the proper permissions can
query part of the content provider (such as ContactsContract.Data) to read and write information about
a particular person. Content providers are also useful for reading and writing data that is private to
your application and not shared. For example, the Note Pad sample application uses a content provider
to save notes. A content provider is implemented as a subclass of ContentProvider and must
implement a standard set of APIs that enable other applications to perform transactions. For more
information, see the Content Providers developer guide.
Broadcast receivers A broadcast receiver is a component that responds to system wide broadcast

Beliefs And Traditions Of Those Who Came Before Me

When you know what happened in the past with your family, you won t have to make the same

drastically increased since the Industrial revolution. From coal to steam, all the way to electricity and
nuclear energy, modern economies and industries rely on sustainable sources of energy to produce

pushing forward Innovation in the energy sector, leading to a brighter, cleaner future. This paper will
discuss the frontiers of promising sectors of the Canadian Energy, specifically in Nuclear Energy and
Natural Gas/Oil, which will allow energy sustainability for the future of this country, and perhaps the
world.
Lucrative Energy Sector: Uranium Nuclear Power
Nuclear Power is like the unloved child of renewable energy, it only gets noticed when it does
something wrong, it has so much potential! Anonymous Nuclear Energy in Canada accounts for over
half the nations energy supply. This large amount of output is dependent on the sustainability of the
plant production and government policy towards it. With many of the Kilowatt Hours (KwH) being
exported to nations across the sea (World Nuclear Association 2013). Exports have skyrocketed due to
our position on a global scale of uranium supply, second behind Russia. Canadian industries and
production campaigns use Nuclear Energy as their main supply. About 59% of Canada s electricity
comes from nuclear power, with 19 reactors mostly in Ontario providing 13.5 GWe of power capacity
(World Nuclear Association 2013). Currently there are nuclear plants active in Pickering, Darlington
and Bruce.

Comparison Of First Love In Jane Austen s Persuasion
It is universally acknowledged that the memories of a first love linger throughout a lifetime because
they are so powerful and equally unforgettable. As a result of the experiences of a first love, breaking
up can be one of the most devastating feelings in the world. In Jane Austen s last book titled
Persuasion, Anne and Captain Wentworth enact a classic tale of first love. What is unique about Anne
and Captain Wentworth is that they did not fall out of love initially or even 8 years later. After eight
years of separation, suffering, and suppressed feelings, upon seeing each other again both Anne and
Frederick display a series of behaviors that demonstrate their love isn t just a case of the reminders of

Wentworth causing her to seek comfort of cool air for her flushed cheeks (46). This is significant
because this is the first time in several years that a Wentworth last name has even been referenced. In
response, Anne s cheeks flush and she seeks comfort in the cold because Captain Wentworth makes
her hot and uncomfortable. Although the person being referenced is not, in fact, Captain Wentworth
but his brother, Anne, after all these years, is still affected by the mention of the Wentworth name.
Like with any first lover, seeing them in public or hearing their name can cause an unexpected stir of
emotion and intertwined memories. Because Anne never fell out of love with Captain Wentworth and
her love for him was merely hidden away and never resolved, having him in her life again is
extremely overwhelming for her.
When Captain Wentworth finally arrives in Uppercross, Anne is overcome with love and actively tries
to make sense of what has changed since she last saw him, often leading to confusion and
contradiction. Anne and her family plan to visit Captain Wentworth, however, Anne stays behind to
take care of a young injured relative. She thinks that she knew herself to be of the first utility to the
child; and what was it to her, if Frederick Wentworth were only half a mile distant, making himself
agreeable to others! (110). Instead of focusing her attention on the young boy she instead focuses on

off, I would recommend to increase their advertising by the percentage increase in their new store
size: 50%. Also, Hallstead s should consider adding internet advertising to increase its market size.
This may be an opportunity for cheap advertising. The sales commission is an unnecessary cost that is
not practiced by Hallstead s competitors. The managers should take away this variable cost to increase

Martin Luther King Jr Diction
The United States had struggled with racism and segregation for many years before 1963. However,
Martin Luther King Jr had a global goal to end racism and segregation. In the I Have a Dream speech
by Martin Luther King Jr, the speech was given on August 28th, 1963 in front of countless African
Americans fighting for their right to freedom. Martin Luther King Jr s argument utilizes diction,
imagery, and similes to demand that America needs to change the social norms that have developed
over time. Martin Luther King Jr. uses strong diction to bring up the idea of change within the United
States. He uses the word, shameful to open the eyes of the audience when talking about how the
African Americans have been treated for many years. Martin Luther King Jr. begins discussing the
past, in order to compare the differences between what was happening then compared to what he
wants to change, and how he plans on changing segregation and racism around the world. Martin
Luther King Jr., also uses the strong word, insufficient in order to argue that African Americans are not
having the same rights and opportunities that most of the whites are having at the time. Although
Martin Luther King Jr. appears to be using his angry diction in order to guide many Americans
towards change within the community, his effective use of strong diction seems to push the audience
in order to make the change that the United States citizens want. The angry diction that Martin Luther

Iva Park Trail Short Story Report
It was always a joy for the trail crew to call in the mules and horses early in the morning from the
lush, Leprechaun green government pasture down in Red s Meadow on a sweet, warm summer s day.
The animals really loved it too, as they munched on mush from feed bags tied around their necks.
They would get so frisky and spunky from feeling their oats that they would deposit road apples in the
corral. This was soon stomped into the dirt and completely overwhelmed the fresh, fragrant smell of
flowers, meadow and forest.
After they were fed it was time to brush, saddle, pack and place each mule in its unique position in the
string. Each animal found its place in the string depending on its own temperament, skills and

It was a big land that humbled the little crew, as they ventured into the backcountry to repair the trails
that the American people so dearly love.
When they finally reached Iva Belle, they decided to set up camp in their favorite location, above the
meadow and in the Lodgepole Pine trees. Packers and trail crews always have a favorite spot that they
go to, and this was it. The men were tired from the long ride but knew they must take care of the
animals first. They threw up a hitch line between some trees and tethered each animal to it. They
unpacked, unsaddled and watered the stock one by one at a small creek nearby. Camp was set up
quickly in their special, organized way with a kitchen, latrine and tent pads. Firewood was gathered
and dinner ready to go within an hour. Everyone felt very satisfied after eating a fresh salad, steak,
corn on the cob and ice cold beer. Mule packing was definitely the life of luxury in the backcountry.
Most of the trail crew had heard stories about the notorious history of Iva Belle Hot Springs in the 60s,
when it was rumored that naked hippies wandered aimlessly, stoned on LSD, doing God only knows
what in the water bubbling up from the bowels of the earth.

Moving To Another Country Essay
Have you ever thought about moving your whole family to another country? If you did so, what are
the reasons to do that? We chose to move because in our country they have crisis, they are too poor,
they have worse education and a lot of reasons that we cannot tell. After moving to another country,
we might see a lot of differences between our old country and the new country. I and my family
moved from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to Minnesota because we believe that I and my brother will
have better education, better chance for a bright future. Since we moved here, I have seen a lot of
differences between two of them and the most significant differences are the university life, the size
and the weather.
First is the university life. In Minnesota we can pick any subject that we feel interested in and have a
lot of activities to do with the university community. We also spend less time at school and more time
at home for homework, chores and family responsibilities. In Minnesota, the college and university
help us a lot preparing for our future, and the tuition fees are paid thanks to the Financial Aid for
citizens. But Ho Chi Minh City on the contrary, there, we do not have choices for our subjects, we
have to pick our major as soon as we roll up for an university or a college and then we have to study
the subjects they gave us without any choice. In Ho Chi Minh City, we also have to spend a lot of time
at school for almost entire day, five to six days a week and we only have

  • 2. European Imperialism Dbq Essay For the 300 years between 1500 and 1800,European nations traded for slaves, gold, and ivory along the west coast of africa, but they did not go deeply into the continent. In the 1880s Africa was under full assault as European nations competed with one another for control of the continent. The driving force behind European imperialism is power and they gain it by getting control and resources of Africa and they justify it all by saying it was their duty as more civilised nations to make other nations as civilized as theirs. The first thing that European countries needed was control over Africa and many countries tried to do so and this led to competition between almost all nations. This can be seen in document A because it shows a map of the many locations other countries have taken as theirs. Control was a big factor in all of this but it is only one of the many factors that comes in when a country wants power. The next thing that the European countries needed was resourses for the mother country can get more wealthy and better in supply. This can be seen in document D, and E because document D shows the exports from Africa and how the mother country is using the resources to further the country s power by advancing in technology, and document E shows the many imports and ... As part of LOI s efforts to identify potential asset retirement obligations, LOI s internal audit group held interviews with all 50 of the warehouse managers and also performed site visits at each of the 50 locations. The related findings of the interviews and site visits noted the following facts: Number of Warehouses State Laws Plans to Sell 25 w/ no asbestos N/A N/A 2 w/ asbestos No state requirements re: removal of asbestos when significantly renovated or demolished Under contract to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ASC 410 20 25 8 indicates that an asset retirement obligation is estimable if all of the following exist: 1. The settlement date or the range of potential settlement dates 2. The method of settlement or potential methods of settlement (The term potential methods of settlement refers to methods of settling the obligation that are currently available to the entity...) 3. The probabilities associated with the potential settlement dates and potential methods of settlement... Although LOI contends that it will not have to settle the actual retirement obligation, the transfer of the obligation to the future buyer represents a form of settlement. The guidance in ASC 410 20 25 5 requiring the recognition of both an asset retirement cost and asset retirement obligation upon acquisition of an asset with an asset retirement obligation indicates that the transfer of the obligation to another party represents an effective settlement of the obligation by the seller. Thirteen Warehouses With State Laws to be Operated Indeterminately As noted above, the state laws create an asset retirement obligation for the 13 warehouses that will continue to operate indeterminately. LOI s contention that it will operate these warehouses indefinitely through continued maintenance is invalid since ASC 410 20 does not permit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women of the 1920 s compared to women today are seen as very passive and were usually domestic wives whose main responsibility was to take care of the house and children. But throughout this decade, women were starting to slowly modernize and become more independent. In The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway, Lady Brett Ashley is somewhat portrayed as the admirable new woman of the 1920 s the woman who openly flaunts accepted conventions of the passive, dependent female role in society and emerges as a positive, inspiring, and risk taking figure in Paris, Pamplona, and Madrid among the male expatriate artists. There were probably many women who felt bored with their life in the shadow and who wanted to live the same life as Brett but were too afraid of other people s reactions. But although Brett may have set a role model for other women, she still had her flaws, one of them being that she was very promiscuous and had several affairs, leading men on to think that she cared for them, for so to ditch them for someone else. One very good example of this is her relationship with Jake. She cared deeply for Jake, but kept on hurting him, not necessarily intentionally, by her not wanting to be in a relationship with him due to his impotents. After Jake and Brett depart in Pamplona, Jake goes to San Sebastian, but quickly after his arrival, he receives a telegram from Brett who was in trouble, and needed Jakes help. • 7. Importance Of Writing Reflection When I had signed up for this class, I thought it was going to be similar to a humanities course. I thought that we would be learning about how journaling has evolved and various ways to journal. As the class progressed, I found it to be more of an art than a humanities class. When this reality did not match my expectation, I was disappointed. I had to challenge myself to get the most out of this course by changing my attitude and adjusting my perspective. As an art class, this would have been an excellent idea and well executed. Being able to learn about different materials, binding techniques, and adhesives were helpful in the creation of journals, but it was not what I had expected. One thing that stands out to me was the research paper, it just did not seem to fit into the class very well. Most of the students did not know how to use Chicago Style referencing properly and there was not any class time allotted to learning it nor to working on the essays. It seemed to be used to check a box rather than to help our understanding. I think that this essay would have fit into the course much better if we had been spending time in class learning about various historical journalists and how their work impacted the region in which it was created. It just did not seem as though our homework matched our class work, so I was a little thrown off. This imbalance was especially apparent because the room was deemed technology free, so we could not even work on our essays while in class. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Fire Imagery in Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre Fire Imagery in Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre Incomplete Works Cited The prevalence of fire imagery and it s multitude of metaphoric uses in Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre expresses two things that could not be expressed openly in the Victorian Period, which are mainly passion and sexuality. Brontes writing was dictated by the morals of her society, but her ideas were not. Jane Eyre was written with the Victorian reader in mind. Bronte knew that if she were to write about these two things directly she would have to face possible rejection of her book. A resolution to this dilemma was to awaken the audience in a way that society deemed not only respectable, but also acceptable. So Bronte creates Jane, and Jane becomes the embodiment of ... In this passage from the novel, Jane begins to understand what will become of her if she gives into the consuming passion that she often feels: A ridge of lighted heath, alive, glancing, devouring, would have been a great emblem of my mind when I accused and menaced Mrs. Reed; the same ridge, black and blasted after the flames are dead, would have represented as meetly my subsequent condition. (69; ch. 4) Bronte takes the fire and transforms it to illustrate the image of sexuality and passion. By doing this, she also proposes the way in which internalized feelings of opposing ideas give into self depleting energy through the loss of self control. Here, Jane has the fear of becoming like Mrs. Reed. She comes to the realization that if this is not what she wants to be like, then she must keep her passions under control. Otherwise, she could become black and blasted after the flames have died. This is presented to embody what Victorian society believed to be true and is a fine example of everything that it despises, which is namely the expression of passion. The fulfillment of self becomes the foundation of society s views, on which the fears of women and their passionate behaviors are laid. Indeed, fire and tumult are major themes within the novel, but these images also invade Victorian arguments pertaining to a women s place in society, and the possible consequences that could occur if a women ... Also, players knowing and understanding how the negatives of anabolic androgenic steroid use outweigh the positives will hopefully help new players who are looking for an edge on the competition to refrain from the use of anabolic androgenic steroids. Along with the harmful side effects players can experience from anabolic androgenic steroid abuse, it also hurts the integrity of professional sports as a whole. Allowing players access to intervention programs and treatment can help to curb the widespread use of AAS. My goal in this paper is to show what anabolic androgenic steroids are, why they impact sports in a negative way, and why they give professional athletes an unfair advantage and shouldn t be a factor in sports. Anabolic androgenic steroids and other performance enhancing drugs has always been a forbidden thing in sports, but have just recently come into the spotlight again. According to Machado and Cortez Pinto, Anabolic androgenic steroids are synthetic derivatives of testosterone, the main male sex hormone (280). A service is implemented as a subclass of Service and you can learn more about it in the Services developer guide. Content providers A content provider manages a shared set of application data. You can store the data in the file system, an SQLite database, on the web, or any other persistent storage location your application can access. Through the content provider, other applications can query or even modify the data (if the content provider allows it). For example, the Android system provides a content provider that manages the user s contact information. As such, any application with the proper permissions can query part of the content provider (such as ContactsContract.Data) to read and write information about a particular person. Content providers are also useful for reading and writing data that is private to your application and not shared. For example, the Note Pad sample application uses a content provider to save notes. A content provider is implemented as a subclass of ContentProvider and must implement a standard set of APIs that enable other applications to perform transactions. • 30. Comparison Of First Love In Jane Austen s Persuasion It is universally acknowledged that the memories of a first love linger throughout a lifetime because they are so powerful and equally unforgettable. As a result of the experiences of a first love, breaking up can be one of the most devastating feelings in the world. In Jane Austen s last book titled Persuasion, Anne and Captain Wentworth enact a classic tale of first love. What is unique about Anne and Captain Wentworth is that they did not fall out of love initially or even 8 years later. After eight years of separation, suffering, and suppressed feelings, upon seeing each other again both Anne and Frederick display a series of behaviors that demonstrate their love isn t just a case of the reminders of first love rather true love. ... Although the person being referenced is not, in fact, Captain Wentworth but his brother, Anne, after all these years, is still affected by the mention of the Wentworth name. Like with any first lover, seeing them in public or hearing their name can cause an unexpected stir of emotion and intertwined memories. Because Anne never fell out of love with Captain Wentworth and her love for him was merely hidden away and never resolved, having him in her life again is extremely overwhelming for her. When Captain Wentworth finally arrives in Uppercross, Anne is overcome with love and actively tries to make sense of what has changed since she last saw him, often leading to confusion and contradiction. Anne and her family plan to visit Captain Wentworth, however, Anne stays behind to take care of a young injured relative. This was soon stomped into the dirt and completely overwhelmed the fresh, fragrant smell of flowers, meadow and forest. Packers and trail crews always have a favorite spot that they go to, and this was it. The men were tired from the long ride but knew they must take care of the animals first. They threw up a hitch line between some trees and tethered each animal to it. They unpacked, unsaddled and watered the stock one by one at a small creek nearby. Camp was set up quickly in their special, organized way with a kitchen, latrine and tent pads. Firewood was gathered and dinner ready to go within an hour. Everyone felt very satisfied after eating a fresh salad, steak, corn on the cob and ice cold beer. Mule packing was definitely the life of luxury in the backcountry. We chose to move because in our country they have crisis, they are too poor, they have worse education and a lot of reasons that we cannot tell. After moving to another country, we might see a lot of differences between our old country and the new country. I and my family moved from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to Minnesota because we believe that I and my brother will have better education, better chance for a bright future. Since we moved here, I have seen a lot of differences between two of them and the most significant differences are the university life, the size and the weather. First is the university life. In Minnesota we can pick any subject that we feel interested in and have a lot of activities to do with the university community. We also spend less time at school and more time at home for homework, chores and family responsibilities. In Minnesota, the college and university help us a lot preparing for our future, and the tuition fees are paid thanks to the Financial Aid for citizens. But Ho Chi Minh City on the contrary, there, we do not have choices for our subjects, we have to pick our major as soon as we roll up for an university or a college and then we have to study the subjects they gave us without any choice.
