Railroad Security
Railroads can be used human passenger traffic, or the transportation of freight and shipments from one
destination to another due to the fact that trains are four times more fuel efficient than trucks
(Association of American Railroads [AAR], 2015), and the fact that railroads also reduce highway
gridlock, lower greenhouse gas emissions, reduce pollution (AAR, 2015). In fact railroad
transportation according to United States Department of Transportation s Federal Railroad
Administration, rail network accounts for approximately 40 percent of U.S. freight moves by ton miles
(the length freight travels) (Federal Railroad Administration, 2010). With the reliance on railroads to

The last article then shows an example of what can happen in the .001percent of releases that do occur
and how serious the problems stemming from the release can be. Something that the articles above
however, do not take into consideration is the threat of terrorist attacks against railroad. The testimony
Terrorism and Rail Security by Jack Riley looks at the issues including the threat of hazardous
materials utilizing the railroads that can potential be used as par of a terrorist attack, as well as railroad
security both on the passenger and the freight side. In his testimony Mr. Riley finds that there needs to
be a coordinated federal policy on rail security that encompasses the fright and passenger side, as well
as the need to continue to utilize simulations and exercises to further find and then reduce the
vulnerabilities encompassing the security of railroads (Riley, 2004). His testimony outlines many
issues that may have not been looked at before and that need to be worked on to prevent hazardous
materials using railroads from being used as terrorist

Zionism and Non Zionists Essays
Zionism declares that the Jews are more than a purely religious body, they are not only a race but also
a nation (Berkowitz 376). Theodor Herzl, the father of political Zionism, states, We are a people one
people. Both Herzl and Berkowitz have interesting key points about a Jewish State, the Jewish religion
in general, and how to solve current issues in the religion. A State is formed by a social contract and is
still being created today. Rousseau states, The conditions of this contract are so precisely defined by
the nature of the agreement that the slightest alterations would make them null and void. The
consequence is that, even where they are not expressly stated, they are everywhere identical, and
everywhere tacitly accepted and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This fact proves that all Jews should and will stand together to solve and work out the problems such
as poor treatment and portrayal. Herzl emphasizes, It is true that the Jewish State is conceived as a
peculiarly modern structure on unspecified territory. But a State is formed, not by pieces of land, but
rather by a number of men united under sovereign rule. For example, the portrayal of Jews from a non
Zionist is much different from Zionists. It is an egregious and fatal error of the Zionists that they
accept the misery of Israel as permanent, his wretchedness as hopeless (Berkowitz 372). Although
forming a State or declaring an important religion can be difficult, there are many other risks such as,
land disputes, current communities moving to a new land, views of merging with other countries, past
and future suffering, and the most important, the emphasis on religion or nation. The first step to
becoming a respected religious State is forming a society of Jews to perform scientific and political
tasks. Second, Christians and current citizens of the State would be forced to move and find new land,
like in times of war or destroyed land. Herzl does point out that if the Jewish State had help from the
Christians it would become a peaceable voluntary departure of colonists. Third, the Jews have
attempted to merge many places in the social life of other countries and to prefer faith of

Princess Diana at the time of her death was arguably the world s most renowned celebrity. Privately,
Diana felt she was just an ordinary person; however, she was much more. She was known to be an
advocate for the helpless and the hopeless. Diana s influence was felt worldwide through her vast
humanitarian activities, which consisted of working with and starting many charities. Diana used her
royal title and her celebrity to raise awareness about many forgotten or overlooked causes. As a result
of her worldwide travels, Diana became the people s princess and the public was intrigued with her
devotion, consideration, and graciousness. Diana s wide and profound influence is seen in how

John s audience might recognize the Royal Family and the paparazzi as the wind that blew against
Diana s candle and ultimately snuffed it out. John continues to use picture words in the chorus to
symbolize the struggles Diana faced. In line 12, when the rain set in allows the audience to picture her
hard times. Still, Diana was a resilient woman, and her grieving audience would realize that she
persevered over many obstacles in her life. She married at the age of 19, and anyone s marriage is
difficult by itself. Add to the fact that she was thrust onto the world stage when she married into the
Royal Family made it that much harder. John s lyrics suggest that Diana remained positive and rarely
let the dark times get her public persona down. Next, John uses the image your candle s burned out
long before (line 15, 31, 47),and the audience is able to picture a candle snuffed out before it had
completely burned. This shows that Diana died early. However, John does not want to leave his
audience with the idea that Diana lived a short life and then died in vain. John s powerful repetition of
your legend never will (line 16, 32, 48) shows that Diana did not die in vain. John s lyrics fill his
audience with hope by reminding them that Diana s life will be remembered and that she did as much
in death as she did in life. The emotions conveyed in Elton John s Candle in the Wind showed his

difficulties as most countries, as technology advances and the aging population requires more nursing

Hildegard Of Bingen Research Papers
Dr. Fassler s lecture on Hildegard was absolutely fascinating to me. I had never heard of the Cosmic
Egg, so I was obviously perplexed by the entire idea of it as well as the link between cosmology, faith,
and art.
Hildegard of Bingen brings science, theology, art, and music together in a digital display. Her way of
thinking about everything not as flat, but as dome ified, revolutionized many aspects of faith and
education. Dr. Fassler s team is working on Hildegard s thought of taking a flat image, and turning it
into a movable, 3 D image. Dr. Fassler also transcribed some of Hildegard s music and had vocal
graduate students at Notre Dame sing through the pieces. Hildegard said she heard music without

Dr. Fassler showed a tapestry from around 1100 in Spain. The piece showed the four winds, earth,
darkness, the spirit of God, water, and light. In addition, one of the winds was sitting on a bagpipe sort
of instrument with two horns in its mouth and feathers on its feet to resemble flight.
The creation of light is very important to Hildegard. She refers to angels as being made of pure, living
light. The darkness stands for the fallen angels. She shows nine ranks of angels in the tapestry. There
were originally ten, but Lucifer s order fell. Dr. Fassler pointed out the idea that God created
humankind to take the place where Lucifer fell. Mankind then fell, and we must regain our voices and
place through praise. Hildegard said that the universe did not spin until Adam fell with

Mrs. Skolnick s Essay All Alone In The Universe
The Essay
It was another typical day in 6th grade. My homeroom teacher, Mrs. Skolnick, was in her 60 s with
glasses, has whitish gray hair and wears the best clothes! She teaches 6th grade because there were too
many of us going to 6th grade last year. She taught 5th grade in the previous years. While the other
teachers teach us math, social studies and science, she teaches us reading. We all think that she s strict
because she has certain qualifications for a proper essay/ paragraph.
She would tell us from the beginning of the year, Each paragraph should have at least 6 sentences and
each essay should be at least 5 paragraphs long.
Every time we read a story, questions and sometimes essays would follow. There are proper ways to

Skolnick made us read All Alone In The Universe. I actually liked that story. It is about a girl named
Rachel and her two best friends who make her feel like a third wheel by leaving her out of all the fun.
The prompt for All Alone In The Universe, was to compare and contrast yourself to Rachel. That doesn
t seem that hard right? Wrong! It had to be 5 paragraphs and my main concern was how should it be
organised? Mrs. Skolnick gave us a couple of ideas on how we can write it.
I later asked her, How is going to be a 5 paragraph essay if the 1st is and intro, 2nd is for similarities,
3rd for differences and then the last one for a conclusion?
She said, Well, I ll make an exception. If you have strong paragraphs with evidence to back it up, then
you can do 4 paragraphs.
I am so relieved she said that since it made no sense whatsoever how I was supposed to make that into
5 paragraphs!
I first started out with an okay intro which was 4 sentences long. I m stuck on the differences. We don
t really have any differences other than that Rachel goes camping with her besties and I m not allowed
to do that. I struggled for half the period and Mrs. Skolnick says that we have tomorrow to work on it
in class as well. Me being the person I am, decided to plan out what to write and how I should write

Dale Earnhardt and Stock Car Racing
Over 50 years ago a new sport was introduced. This sport was stock car racing. The organization that

driver that is identifiable with NASCAR is definitely Dale Earnhardt. Over the years there have been
many great stock car racers from Cale Yarborough to Richard Petty and Davy Allison, but no other
name was better known than Dale Earnhardt. Whether on the track or in the crowds, there is no

The Key Concepts Of Quality Improvement
The key concepts of quality improvement are the new designing system and process changes that lead
to improve operation and sustainable quality of organization culture. When new design and procedure

Essay Lactose Intolerance
Lactose Intolerance Lactose intolerance is the inability to digest significant amounts of lactose, the
predominant sugar of milk. This inability results from a shortage of the enzyme lactase, which is
normally produced by the cells that line the small intestine. Lactase breaks down milk sugar into
simpler forms that can then be absorbed into the bloodstream. When there is not enough lactase to
digest the amount of lactose consumed, the results, although not usually dangerous, may be very
distressing. While not all persons deficient in lactase have symptoms, those who do are considered to
be lactose intolerant.
The symptoms listed below are caused by the fermentation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Persons who suffer from lactase deficiency and do not avoid lactose may suffer from weight loss and
malnutrition.
The severity of symptoms varies depending on the amount of lactose each individual can tolerate.
Some of the symptoms may be similar to those of milk allergy but milk allergies can cause the body to
react quicker, more often within a few minutes.
Common symptoms include nausea, cramps, bloating, gas, and diarrhoea, which begin about 30
minutes to 2 hours after eating or drinking foods containing lactose. The severity of symptoms varies
depending on the amount of lactose each individual can tolerate.
Some causes of lactose intolerance are well known. For instance, certain digestive diseases and
injuries to the small intestine can reduce the amount of enzymes produced. In rare cases, children are
born without the ability to produce lactase. For most people, though, lactase deficiency is a condition
that develops naturally over time. After about the age of 2 years, the body begins to produce less
lactase. However, many people may not experience symptoms until they are much older.
How is lactose intolerance diagnosed?
The most common tests used to measure the absorption of lactose in the digestive system are the
lactose tolerance test, the hydrogen breath test, and the

Plato s Theory Of Form
Plato coined the term Socratic questioning to encourage the open discussion of philosophical theory
for the purpose of improving said theory. Aristotle took advantage of the practice of Socratic
questioning to inquire about Plato s theory of Form and its explanation of causality in comparison to
Aristotle s own theories of causality and being. Aristotle criticizes Plato s theory of Form because it
only accounted for a one dimensional explanation of what things are made up of and what identifies
them. Aristotle offers his own explanations of causality and being through his four causes and his
categories of being in an attempt to rectify Plato s perceived failures.
In Metaphysics 1.3 and 1.6 Aristotle criticizes Plato s theory of forms, specifically his accounts of
causality. In order to understand why Aristotle disagrees so wholeheartedly with Plato s theories it is
important to understand Aristotle s own theories on causality. Aristotle claimed that there were four
causes that explain what something is, what made it exist, and why it exists. The first is the material
form which accounts for the materials a thing is made of, next is the efficient form which is the force
that pushes the thing into existence, the third is the formal form which is the essence or function of the
thing in question, and the last is the final form which is the purpose for which the thing in question
exists. In the example of a house the material form is the wood, concrete, and insulation that

Roles Of Males And Females Alike
Gender norms often support stereotypical ideas that help people form general assumptions about the
roles of males and females alike. In Ryūnosuke Akutagawa s In a Bamboo Grove, gender norm
accusations about Masago are demonstrated by the old woman, the robber, and Masago s husband,
Takehiko, as they are being questioned. These characters all believe that Masago does not display any
role in the murder of her husband. The fact that none of the characters in the story would ever expect
that Masago is an accessory to the gruesome act against her own husband is unjustified because their
focus on gender norms misconstrue how Masago really is. Being one of the characters to suggest
Masago is innocent in the death of her husband, the old woman fails to realize the truth when she
assumes that Masago is hurt. The old woman explains, . . . the fate of my daughter worries me sick
(Akutagawa 2). By stating that she is worried for her own daughter s safety, the old woman is
implying that her daughter is also a victim who had nothing to do with the murder of her son in law,
Takehiko, because she does not believe that Masago, being a woman, could have possibly played any
other role in the crime other than the victim. The old woman goes on to say, I hate that robber
Tajomaru, or whatever his name is. Not only my son in law, but my daughter . . . (2). In this statement,
the old woman reinforces her belief that her daughter, since she is a woman, is nothing more than a

1.1 CONVENTIONAL AND UNCONVENTIONAL OIL
For centuries, oil and natural gas have been drilled and mined using conventional means, by digging
in oil rich sandstones, conventional rocks. Due to the permeability of these rocks, it is easy for the oil
and gas to flow to the surface from well bores and be collected for commercial use. But recently,
concerns have been raised regarding the over exploitation of these resources, as various reports show
that with the current level of exploration, these reserves will soon be depleted. ... Show more content

The difference between these two sources conventional and unconventional oil is in the type of rock
and depth of drilling, as well as the method used in bringing up the oil and gas. Whereas conventional
oil and gas makes use of vertically drilled bores and shallow depths, unconventional oil is drilled at
depths farther below in the earth s surface (depths of up to 10,000 feet have been recorded), by
making use of horizontal bores (figure 1).
1.2 HYDRAULIC FRACTURING FOR OIL AND GAS
Prior to what is today known as Hydraulic Fracturing or Fracking , in the 19th century, water wells
and bores had been fractured using explosives to create high permeability for both water and oil wells.
Over the years, the technology has been refined and improved into what is used today for exploration
in Shale rocks due to their low permeability.
Fracking is the process of pumping large gallons of water, mixed with sand and a cocktail of chemical
compounds into existing crevices of underground oil and gas reserves, under very high pressure,
thereby creating fissures and cracks in the rocks and hence improving the porosity and permeability of
the rock formation. Figure 1: Conventional Gas reservoirs and Unconventional Gas Reservoirs (Shale
Rock)
Naturally occurring veins in the rock formations are used in the conventional sources to tap the oil, but
in unconventional sources, these veins are either not large enough, or are too far apart and not

Cyworld is an active user. An active user is a Cyworld member that signs in to his/her profile on a
consistent basis, multiple times per week. This type of user creates the most opportunities for Cyworld
to produce income in various ways. Active users are the ones who engage more with the system, who
are more likely to interact with advertising, who are more likely to spend money on virtual goods and
currency (O Sullivan, 2011). A user who spends a lot of money on Cyworld is valuable, but their value
to Cyworld is limited to only the purchase of items. If purchasing items goes out of style and becomes
an infrequent occurrence, this type of user brings about little value to the website. A user with a lot of
connections, or a member that has a lot of virtual relationships with other members, comes in at a
close second in terms of value brought to Cyworld. This type of user brings about a higher possibility
of purchasing items for their various connections, as described previously, but just because a Cyworld
user has a lot of connections does not mean that he/she actively uses the website. A user with a lot of
connections that never, or rarely, signs into Cyworld contributes little value to the website. High user

Samuel Taylor Contribution To Psychology
INTRODUCTION
Organization Defined
Organizations are complex systems which rely on people, structures and technology to achieve their
goals and objectives. They are created to serve the needs of the societies or communities in which they
operate and are influenced by both their internal environment (culture) and their external environment.
As defined by Robins an organization is a continuously co ordinated social unit of two or more people
that functions on a relatively continuous basis to achieve a common goal or set of goals (Robins
2005).
Organizational Behaviour Defined
Behaviour on the other hand, he defines simply as the actions of people (Robins 2005). Organization

Although his work emphasized the technical rather than purely human side of management, he did
point out the role of specific incentives in motivating workers and the value of specialization. Perhaps
Taylor s greatest contribution to the study of management and organizational behaviour was his
approach of applying the scientific method to industrial problems. (Colonel Samuel H Hays and
Lieutenant Colonel William N Thomas,Taking Command, Stackpole Books, USA, 1976, p 93). This
scientific approach has been adopted by several theorists and applied to the filed of organizational
behaviour.
CONTRIBUTIONS BY VARIOUS DISCIPLINS
The Contribution of Psychology to the field of OB
The psychological contribution to OB focussed on understanding individuals and predicting their

important to the organizational setting because it deals with an individual s willingness to work.
Motivation is defined as the conscious decision to direct effort toward one activity more than others

Essay on The Battle of Yorktown
The Battle of Yorktown was a major turning point in the Revolutionary War and led to the creation of
the United States of America. After six grueling years of war the end of the war was near. Six months
before the morale of the continental army was at the lowest point of the war. Congress was bankrupt
due to rampant inflation caused by the mass production of continental dollars. The continental army
was being trounced in the south by the British who had regained South Carolina and Georgia. Also
many of the men in the continental army were mutinying. However in July of 1780 a French force
landed in Newport, Rhode Island and this boosted American morale greatly (Fleming 11 13). Russia

Cornwallis was very unhappy about the decision as he had been driving deep into Virginia (Fleming

defensible position on the Virginia coast. Cornwallis began fortifying Yorktown which had been a
prosperous tobacco trading town and had many well to do homes. Cornwallis picked the Nelson house
to be his base of operations. While Cornwallis and his men were reinforcing Yorktown s defenses
Washington and Rochambeau were planning their march south to Virginia and they were attempting to

their way to Virginia with their respective fleets. Washington was attempting to keep his march
towards Virginia a secret and so he led the British to believe that he was still planning on continuing
his attack on New York by creating a fake army camp, beginning the construction of four large ovens
and leaking false information to the British ( Fleming 40) . When Washington had received word that
the British West Indies fleet of eighteen ships had arrived in New York to make the total of British

Kami Is Like Shintoism
Within all religions, there is a belief in beings that live around us and can have the means to answer
certain prayers. Kami is a term used in Shintoism as spirits that live closely with human beings, which
are anything out of the ordinary, awe inspiring, mysterious, powerful, marvelous, and beyond human
control or comprehension. (Brood 318) Kami is often associated with ancestors and loved ones who
have passed on from the world of the living or even evil being who wish to do harm to those still
living. Shintoism states that many of these Kami can have the power to not only alter human events
but can also influence natural forces. Kami when applied to spirits that live in things is a way to attach

Shinto has no concept of sin, but rather it teaches that evil actions can contaminate individuals by
causing them to accrue impurities that poison innocence and offend the Kami. To rid one s self of
these impurities, Shintoism prescribes ritual washings in natural phenomena like a large source of
flowing water or salt. The symbolism of water recognizes that the purification process is letting the
person previous sins and acts of uncleanliness flow out of their soul and allowing the Kami, in this
case water spirit, to carry it away. The uses of salt could be applied to purify the land before any use
such as agriculture or construction of buildings. The rituals of purification do not apply to only
individuals and groups, but to the christening of new buildings and the start of a new business or a
change in government officials. A high priest, who calls out to the Kami, performs most rituals where
large groups are involved to request the Maiden of the Descent into the Current, Maiden of the Swift
Cleaning, the lord of the Breath blowing place, and the Maiden of Swift Banishment to wash away,
gulp down, blow away, and to abolish away the sins of the group to purify their minds and souls. (The

Cognitive Processing Therapy For Post Traumatic Stress...
Evidence based practices have been gaining a lot importance recently and it was so interesting to
search the online libraries to actually see how many exist. It was stimulating to go onto the National
Registry of Evidence based Programs and Practices websites and be in awe of abundance of programs.
There were programs for almost every type of social work practice. While looking through the
different databases in regards to evidence based practice (EBP), one in particular really caught my
attention. The particular EBP that will be discussed is known as Cognitive Processing Therapy for
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I chose this specific one because I have a great interest in
therapies with those suffering from PTSD. As stated by the name of this particular EBP, the focus is
on cognition in those with PTSD. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a form of the well known
cognitive behavioral therapy. For this particular therapy, the clients taking part are older adolescents
and adults (18 55+) who have a PTSD diagnosis (SAMHSA, 2014). The preliminary focus on CPT is
to look at the distorted thoughts about the trauma experienced by the client. Beliefs such as self blame
and denial are initial conative focus, then therapy moves on to looking at the clients how the clients
think themselves, others, and the world (Resick, Nishith, Weaver, Astin, Feuer, 2002). Clients who are
undergoing this therapy use of worksheets and what is known as Socratic questioning (Resick,

Notes On Wild Fruits
Wild berries. Medical wild strawberries are categorized as a member of the Rose family taxonomy.
They are found throughout the Alberta province in western Canada, but not common in the southeast.
The leaves of the strawberry have three toothed leaflets and five white petals. The leaves of the wild
berries are delicate as opposed to the typical leaves which are less delicate. The unripe berries are
green and coat with a slightly red color. The ripper the berries the more it adds up the red color to the
berries. The ordinary strawberries, which are grown for commercial purpose are considered to be of
hybrid origin between the wild berries. The smell of the berries is almost synonymous with the typical
berries, but the difference lies in the size of the fruit, wild strawberries are relatively small compared
to the first berries. The fruits grow wild and are found in the lowest valleys in moist soils of woods
beside streams. They grow in open well drained places in the lowland of subalpine zones. Wild
strawberries are perennial herbs that grow from a fibrous root. They are eaten by some birds and
mammals. (Jump Start: A Northwest Renaissance Anthology 2009) The wild strawberries also known
as the Alpine strawberries are very popularly used for therapeutic purposes. Traditionally all the parts
of the wild berries, the leaves, fruits, roots, and the stem was used to treat various disorders. The roots

The Pros And Cons Of The BP Oil Spill
It is well known that in 2010 a oil spill occurred in the Gulf of Mexico. The oil rig Deepwater
Horizon, owned by BP, exploded and sank and caused a continued oil leak that released amlost 5
million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, the worst oil spill in U.S. history (Biello). In an address
delivered inJune of 2010, President Obama called the oil spill the worst environmental disaster
America has ever faced (Obama). Given the magnitude of the spill, and the media attention
surrounding the issue, the entire topic became an emotional subject and strong opinions were formed

While this fear seems valid when constructed without context, applying the specifics of the BP oil
spill show this line of reasoning to be a slippery slope fallacy. Spending 58 million dollars on one
hotel now will not lead to the complete squandering of the rest of the restoration resources simply
because, in comparison to the total funds, 58 million dollars is a small sum. When viewed through the
everyday experiences of a regular civilian, 58 million dollars is an almost incomprehensible amount of
money. However, The Telograph states that BP has spent 28 billion dollars on containment and
cleaning efforts and set aside another 20 billion as a compensation fund (Sherwell and Lawler). When
set against a total effort of 48 billion dollars that may be contributed from BP alone, 58 million dollars
accounts for roughly 0.12% of the potential resources dedicated towards the aftermath of the spill in
the Gulf. Given in figures more consistent with the experience of the average person, this is the
equivalent of about 60 dollars out of a 50 thousand dollar salary. While an ideological claim could be
made that all resources should be used on areas impacted physically and directly, the actual cost of the
hotel is too small to be an influence on wide scale decision making for the larger recovery effort

Augustus and Antony had their differences when assigning the ruler of Italy, but they were over come

to move forward his vision of the auteur theory. The opening sequence uses a series of high angle
shots to assist in establishing a feeling of childhood innocence and indeed, the child in this film,
Antoine Dionel (Jeanne Pierre Leaud), starts out innocent. The camera focuses of the city buildings
and the sky above. As shown from a ground point of view, the buildings are larger than life and
intimidating. This is how most children view the world, as being large and intimidating. Take, for
example, the scenario of dropping a child off for his/her first day of school. Most of them are
devastated because they have to deal with a world that is larger than the one they know, and that is
intimidating. The sky is vast and innocent, symbolizing a child s mind. Children have incredible

The Image of the Big House as a Central Motif in The Real...
The Image of the Big House as a Central Motif in The Real Charlotte The image of the big house has
long been a central motif in Anglo Irish literature. From Maria Edgeworth s Castle Rackrent (1800), it
has been a source of inspiration to many writers. One of the reason s for the surge in castle rackrents
(a generic term employed by Charles Maturin) through the 19th and early 20th century, is that many
writers who used the big house as a backdrop to their work were residents of such houses themselves
writers such as Sommerville and Ross, George Moore and Elizabeth Bowen, were born into the
ascendancy and wrote about an era and society with which they were familiar. However modern
writers, such as Molly Keane and John ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sommerville and Ross have not focused on the physical disintegration of the Big House in The Real
Charlotte, but as they based the novel on their experiences as part of the Ascendancy, we can see the
corrosion of the upper classes stature and power through characterization and setting. The driving
force of all Big House fiction is the isolation of the Anglo Irish Ascendancy both physically and
metaphorically. The country homes of the Ascendancy/landlords, were deemed Big Houses because of
their grandeur and setting; they were huge in comparison to the cottiers mud cabins and labourers
cottages of the Irish natives, thus were unrivalled in the countryside. Elizabeth Bowen accurately
described their physical detachment from other social classes: with its stables and farm and gardens
deep in trees at the end of long avenues is an island and, like an island, a world. [3] Their
disconnection was deliberate as they generally only interacted with other gentry in the confines of
their estates, and consequently their only contact with the native Irish was in their role as master and
servant. Although these houses were built to inspire awe in social equals and deference in the lower
classes, as Terence Dooley states, such deference in Ireland was: tinged with a sense of resentment
because they were built on what most tenant farmers would deem to have been confiscated land. [4]
Adding to their image as usurpers was the fact that many were

American English Consonant And Vowel Inventories

Southern Illinois University Carbondale Abdullah34f@gmail.com A contrast of the Arabic vs.
American English consonant and vowel inventories. Introduction According to Hillenbrand (2003)
and Thelwall and Sa Adeddin (1999), both the American English and Arabic languages have diverse
forms and dialects respectively. Thelwall and Sa Adeddin (1999), highlight the two main spoken
Arabic dialects as Al Shaam (spoken in the greater Syria) and Arabic spoken in Egypt (mainly focused
at the University in Cairo and the Al Azhar mosque). Hillenbrand (2003) gives two examples of
American English dialects as the southern California dialect, and the dialect for the Northern cities

Underage Prostitution In Nigeria
Underage Prostitution in Nigeria.
Introduction
Like any other business, prostitution has an economic aspect. Indeed, it is a market and a very
lucrative one. It involves men s pleasure which is given by being physically intimate with women or
children. This has been made to flourish due to the customer demand and the perception that women
are there to serve men s pleasures. Forced prostitution rings have been seen to be flooded by underage
girls who do not know to discern the intentions and the motives of men who drag them into sex work.
These young women often convinced of a better life in exchange for sex. Most of the blame is placed
on these women as it is said if they were not greedy they would still have their sexual freedom.
The problem and its Severity Nigeria is known to have a lot of natural resources since it is the largest

leads them to bigger cities since parents cannot cater for their families, therefore, they end up

Arguments Against Capitalism
Capitalism is defined as an economic and political system in which a country s trade and industry are
controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state. Base on the reading and the fading of
the word freedom in the background, the term Capitalism is portrayed in a negative light affecting its
connotation. I comprehend that the private sector is recognized as a critical driver of economic
growth, which contributes significantly to poverty reduction and higher living standards for poor
people, Although, the fading of the word freedom emphasizes that capitalism, controlled by private
sectors who provides majority of jobs to Americans, contradicts its representation of the free

This type of argument is evident in the picture because it ridicules the term freedom with our rights by

agree with the pictures intent to question capitalism due to the fact that capitalism is a system based on
the principle of individual rights, and the free market, known as the system of Laissez faire. The
picture most appropriately responds to the first question of the Stasis Theory which state, Did
something happened? The choice of words used by the author created a sarcastic tone resulting in the
reader wondering if something happened. The question responds correctly to the statement because it
causes one to question and acknowledge that capitalism represents the free market, the principle of
individual rights, and the system of Laissez faire, therefore, the word freedom being faded in the
background demean the value and importance of the word when the term capitalism represents similar

less than the best of both worlds. More than 40 pieces, including bowls, marionettes, tiles, and large
urns takes over the 3,200 square feet gallery space at The American Museum of Ceramic Art
(AMOCA). Assisting them is a long wall of photos originally taken by Olsen to be used as design
elements. The exhibit plan is resolved so that visitors have a chance to visually experience the
production of the artist s works from the very beginning. Olson s process begins with printing and
cutting out individual subjects from his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The content of these images varies, from random street lamp and bridge detail to shots of events that
induce powerful narratives and emotions. For instance, a large urn titled New York City #31 features a
number of iconic sceneries of the cosmopolitan New York City. Anyone familiar with the city could
easily recognize different corners of Time Square, Grand Central station, and the NYC skyline view
from Brooklyn as they explore the elaborate decorative bands. The negative space between the prints
and their photographic characteristics visually alter the shape of the vessels and bowls, giving them

Principles And Practices Of Incident Management And...
CHAPTER TWO
PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF INCIDENT MANAGEMENT AND INCIDENT RESPONSE
STRENGTHS
The information security incident management policy of Blyth s Books was created in 2010 and has
been reviewed four times in five years. Those covered by its scope are clearly stated. It stresses the
importance of incident management to the organisation and has the support of upper level
management.
This policy complies with the Computer Misuse Act (1990) which was an act made to secure
computer systems and networks from unapproved access. By complying with legal obligation, Blyth s
Books can pursue legal or disciplinary action against anyone (employee or otherwise) guilty of
breaching their systems.
WEAKNESSES
The Data Protection Act (1998) provides the principles which must be adhered to in order to ensure
the total protection of data while the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 27035
presents organisations with guidance in the management of information security incidents. This
standard stipulates that an organisation should have a clear and concise information security incident
management policy. The security incident management policy of Blyth s Books while compliant with
the Computer Misuse Act (1990) does not show that it is compliant with the Data Protection Act
(DPA) (1998) and the DPA (1998) being a legal aspect of the International Organisation for
Standardisation (ISO) 27035, which must be adhered to, this policy is also not compliant with the
standard.

The Bonus Dilemma
The Bonus Dilemma
Jon Jacobs
INTRODUCTION
As bonus time looms, the financial services industry around the world faces an unprecedented
situation of government financial participation and intense political scrutiny. Both 2008 compensation
and the pay paradigm for future years are being reshaped under this spotlight.
This White Paper focuses on public relations aspects of the dilemma confronting U.S. investment
banks over reformulating compensation both near term and long term, from the C suite to the
operations staff. Due to recent and ongoing injections of taxpayer funds, decisions that traditionally
aimed to balance employee retention needs with budgetary constraints must now also weigh the
interests of a daunting array of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the Swiss bank said that for most of its employees,
the current system of variable compensation will basically not change. (5)
CURRENT YEAR S BONUS CALCULUS
The political spotlight on compensation poses both near term and longer term risks to financial
institutions. An obvious near term risk is an institution reining in year end incentives more severely
than its peers might lose talent to competitors early in 2009. Any perceived inequities that arise
between similarly positioned firms are a potential trigger for defections. Even hobbled banks and
hedge funds will seize opportunities to scoop up top talent that s disaffected with their current
employer.
Thus, even more than usual, recruitment staff should spend this period seeking real time information
about what their closest counterparts are doing in terms of year end incentives. Internal recruiters can
provide valuable intelligence to divisional and department heads and other compensation decision
makers.
Besides risking defections in the near term, an institution perceived as letting public officials dictate
its compensation procedures runs a risk of gradually metamorphosing into something like a
government agency itself. In public agencies, salaries often are set by published charts rather than
managers discretion, and bonuses don t exist. To the

Work Addiction Research Papers
The days of the regular 9 to 5 workday, 40 hour week and relaxing vacations have all but gone by the
wayside. Today, they have more often than not been replaced by workdays with no set timeframe, a
workweek consisting of up to 60 hours or more and vacations that are for the most part nonexistent.
With such extreme changes in modern work habits, things such as relationships, health and lifestyles
suffer. Sadly, this disorder is not new to researchers nor is it as small as a problem as most people
think it is. People that worked harder and longer than needed were considered ideal employees in the
past. Today, companies are implementing mandatory time off as to battle the addiction to work.
Researchers have discovered that not only is there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people may think this type of disorder is mostly exhibited by those with jobs, but it has been
found that even those with no jobs also suffer from such an affliction. According to many researchers
studying today s work epidemic, it has been estimated that the majority of people with this problem
have come from such situations as dysfunctional families and alcoholic parent(s). The cause for this
stems from not being able to control situations that were not controllable. Work addiction is
considered an attempt to control a situation in which they cannot control. Other researchers have
found that the sudden increase of workaholism is stemmed from recent economic pressures. People
think that by working harder and logging longer hours is a viable way of keeping a job in such harsh
economic times. During a recent study by Saul Robinson, a psychotherapist and professor at the
University of North Carolina Charlotte found that there were four different types of workaholics. The
bulimic workaholic is one that thinks that a job must be done PERFECTLY or not done at all. The
relentless workaholic, described as an adrenaline junkie, is one that tends to take on more work than
can possibly be done. The attention deficit workaholic is one that starts a job with a fury but then fails
to finish because of lost interest for another job. The savoring workaholic is one that works very
slowly, is very

  • 3. Zionism and Non Zionists Essays Zionism declares that the Jews are more than a purely religious body, they are not only a race but also a nation (Berkowitz 376). Theodor Herzl, the father of political Zionism, states, We are a people one people. Both Herzl and Berkowitz have interesting key points about a Jewish State, the Jewish religion in general, and how to solve current issues in the religion. A State is formed by a social contract and is still being created today. Rousseau states, The conditions of this contract are so precisely defined by the nature of the agreement that the slightest alterations would make them null and void. The consequence is that, even where they are not expressly stated, they are everywhere identical, and everywhere tacitly accepted and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This fact proves that all Jews should and will stand together to solve and work out the problems such as poor treatment and portrayal. Herzl emphasizes, It is true that the Jewish State is conceived as a peculiarly modern structure on unspecified territory. But a State is formed, not by pieces of land, but rather by a number of men united under sovereign rule. For example, the portrayal of Jews from a non Zionist is much different from Zionists. It is an egregious and fatal error of the Zionists that they accept the misery of Israel as permanent, his wretchedness as hopeless (Berkowitz 372). Although forming a State or declaring an important religion can be difficult, there are many other risks such as, land disputes, current communities moving to a new land, views of merging with other countries, past and future suffering, and the most important, the emphasis on religion or nation. The first step to becoming a respected religious State is forming a society of Jews to perform scientific and political tasks. Second, Christians and current citizens of the State would be forced to move and find new land, like in times of war or destroyed land. Herzl does point out that if the Jewish State had help from the Christians it would become a peaceable voluntary departure of colonists. Diana used her royal title and her celebrity to raise awareness about many forgotten or overlooked causes. Still, Diana was a resilient woman, and her grieving audience would realize that she persevered over many obstacles in her life. She married at the age of 19, and anyone s marriage is difficult by itself. Add to the fact that she was thrust onto the world stage when she married into the Royal Family made it that much harder. John s lyrics suggest that Diana remained positive and rarely let the dark times get her public persona down. Next, John uses the image your candle s burned out long before (line 15, 31, 47),and the audience is able to picture a candle snuffed out before it had completely burned. This shows that Diana died early. However, John does not want to leave his audience with the idea that Diana lived a short life and then died in vain. John s powerful repetition of your legend never will (line 16, 32, 48) shows that Diana did not die in vain. This inability results from a shortage of the enzyme lactase, which is normally produced by the cells that line the small intestine. Aristotle took advantage of the practice of Socratic questioning to inquire about Plato s theory of Form and its explanation of causality in comparison to Aristotle s own theories of causality and being. Aristotle criticizes Plato s theory of Form because it only accounted for a one dimensional explanation of what things are made up of and what identifies them. Aristotle offers his own explanations of causality and being through his four causes and his categories of being in an attempt to rectify Plato s perceived failures. In Metaphysics 1.3 and 1.6 Aristotle criticizes Plato s theory of forms, specifically his accounts of causality. In order to understand why Aristotle disagrees so wholeheartedly with Plato s theories it is important to understand Aristotle s own theories on causality. Aristotle claimed that there were four causes that explain what something is, what made it exist, and why it exists. These characters all believe that Masago does not display any role in the murder of her husband. The fact that none of the characters in the story would ever expect that Masago is an accessory to the gruesome act against her own husband is unjustified because their focus on gender norms misconstrue how Masago really is. (Colonel Samuel H Hays and Lieutenant Colonel William N Thomas,Taking Command, Stackpole Books, USA, 1976, p 93). This scientific approach has been adopted by several theorists and applied to the filed of organizational behaviour. CONTRIBUTIONS BY VARIOUS DISCIPLINS The Contribution of Psychology to the field of OB The psychological contribution to OB focussed on understanding individuals and predicting their behaviour, and using that knowledge within organizations to improve the organization s competitive advantage. Psychological studies focussed on areas such as perceptions, learning, personality development, needs and motivation. Of these areas motivation is the over arching factor and most important to the organizational setting because it deals with an individual s willingness to work. Motivation is defined as the conscious decision to direct effort toward one activity more than others (Coffey et. al). Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a form of the well known cognitive behavioral therapy. For this particular therapy, the clients taking part are older adolescents and adults (18 55+) who have a PTSD diagnosis (SAMHSA, 2014). They are found throughout the Alberta province in western Canada, but not common in the southeast. The leaves of the strawberry have three toothed leaflets and five white petals. The leaves of the wild berries are delicate as opposed to the typical leaves which are less delicate. The unripe berries are green and coat with a slightly red color. The ordinary strawberries, which are grown for commercial purpose are considered to be of hybrid origin between the wild berries. The smell of the berries is almost synonymous with the typical berries, but the difference lies in the size of the fruit, wild strawberries are relatively small compared to the first berries. The fruits grow wild and are found in the lowest valleys in moist soils of woods beside streams. They grow in open well drained places in the lowland of subalpine zones. Spending 58 million dollars on one hotel now will not lead to the complete squandering of the rest of the restoration resources simply because, in comparison to the total funds, 58 million dollars is a small sum. When viewed through the everyday experiences of a regular civilian, 58 million dollars is an almost incomprehensible amount of money. However, The Telograph states that BP has spent 28 billion dollars on containment and cleaning efforts and set aside another 20 billion as a compensation fund (Sherwell and Lawler). When set against a total effort of 48 billion dollars that may be contributed from BP alone, 58 million dollars accounts for roughly 0.12% of the potential resources dedicated towards the aftermath of the spill in the Gulf. Given in figures more consistent with the experience of the average person, this is the equivalent of about 60 dollars out of a 50 thousand dollar salary. The driving force of all Big House fiction is the isolation of the Anglo Irish Ascendancy both physically and metaphorically. The country homes of the Ascendancy/landlords, were deemed Big Houses because of their grandeur and setting; they were huge in comparison to the cottiers mud cabins and labourers cottages of the Irish natives, thus were unrivalled in the countryside. Elizabeth Bowen accurately described their physical detachment from other social classes: with its stables and farm and gardens deep in trees at the end of long avenues is an island and, like an island, a world. [3] Their disconnection was deliberate as they generally only interacted with other gentry in the confines of their estates, and consequently their only contact with the native Irish was in their role as master and servant. Although these houses were built to inspire awe in social equals and deference in the lower classes, as Terence Dooley states, such deference in Ireland was: tinged with a sense of resentment because they were built on what most tenant farmers would deem to have been confiscated land. • 42. Principles And Practices Of Incident Management And... CHAPTER TWO PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF INCIDENT MANAGEMENT AND INCIDENT RESPONSE STRENGTHS The information security incident management policy of Blyth s Books was created in 2010 and has been reviewed four times in five years. Those covered by its scope are clearly stated. It stresses the importance of incident management to the organisation and has the support of upper level management. This policy complies with the Computer Misuse Act (1990) which was an act made to secure computer systems and networks from unapproved access. By complying with legal obligation, Blyth s Books can pursue legal or disciplinary action against anyone (employee or otherwise) guilty of breaching their systems. WEAKNESSES The Data Protection Act (1998) provides the principles which must be adhered to in order to ensure the total protection of data while the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 27035 presents organisations with guidance in the management of information security incidents. This standard stipulates that an organisation should have a clear and concise information security incident management policy. The security incident management policy of Blyth s Books while compliant with the Computer Misuse Act (1990) does not show that it is compliant with the Data Protection Act (DPA) (1998) and the DPA (1998) being a legal aspect of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 27035, which must be adhered to, this policy is also not compliant with the standard. ... • 43. The Bonus Dilemma The Bonus Dilemma Jon Jacobs INTRODUCTION As bonus time looms, the financial services industry around the world faces an unprecedented situation of government financial participation and intense political scrutiny. Both 2008 compensation and the pay paradigm for future years are being reshaped under this spotlight. This White Paper focuses on public relations aspects of the dilemma confronting U.S. investment banks over reformulating compensation both near term and long term, from the C suite to the operations staff. Due to recent and ongoing injections of taxpayer funds, decisions that traditionally aimed to balance employee retention needs with budgetary constraints must now also weigh the interests of a daunting array of ... (5) CURRENT YEAR S BONUS CALCULUS The political spotlight on compensation poses both near term and longer term risks to financial institutions. An obvious near term risk is an institution reining in year end incentives more severely than its peers might lose talent to competitors early in 2009. Any perceived inequities that arise between similarly positioned firms are a potential trigger for defections. Even hobbled banks and hedge funds will seize opportunities to scoop up top talent that s disaffected with their current employer. Thus, even more than usual, recruitment staff should spend this period seeking real time information about what their closest counterparts are doing in terms of year end incentives. Internal recruiters can provide valuable intelligence to divisional and department heads and other compensation decision makers. Besides risking defections in the near term, an institution perceived as letting public officials dictate its compensation procedures runs a risk of gradually metamorphosing into something like a government agency itself. In public agencies, salaries often are set by published charts rather than managers discretion, and bonuses don t exist. To the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Work Addiction Research Papers The days of the regular 9 to 5 workday, 40 hour week and relaxing vacations have all but gone by the wayside. Today, they have more often than not been replaced by workdays with no set timeframe, a workweek consisting of up to 60 hours or more and vacations that are for the most part nonexistent. With such extreme changes in modern work habits, things such as relationships, health and lifestyles suffer. Sadly, this disorder is not new to researchers nor is it as small as a problem as most people think it is. People that worked harder and longer than needed were considered ideal employees in the past. Today, companies are implementing mandatory time off as to battle the addiction to work. Researchers have discovered that not only is there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some people may think this type of disorder is mostly exhibited by those with jobs, but it has been found that even those with no jobs also suffer from such an affliction. According to many researchers studying today s work epidemic, it has been estimated that the majority of people with this problem have come from such situations as dysfunctional families and alcoholic parent(s). The cause for this stems from not being able to control situations that were not controllable. Work addiction is considered an attempt to control a situation in which they cannot control. Other researchers have found that the sudden increase of workaholism is stemmed from recent economic pressures. People think that by working harder and logging longer hours is a viable way of keeping a job in such harsh economic times. During a recent study by Saul Robinson, a psychotherapist and professor at the University of North Carolina Charlotte found that there were four different types of workaholics. The bulimic workaholic is one that thinks that a job must be done PERFECTLY or not done at all. The relentless workaholic, described as an adrenaline junkie, is one that tends to take on more work than can possibly be done. The attention deficit workaholic is one that starts a job with a fury but then fails to finish because of lost interest for another job. The savoring workaholic is one that works very slowly, is very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
