A columnist for the Boston Globe, Jeff Jacoby, in his article, Bring Back Flogging
published on the op ed page on February 20, addresses the issue of the deficiency of
today s criminal justice system and attempts to persuade us to bring back flogging as
a punishment for certain crime. However, though his syllogism might arouse the
reader and educate them on the need for reform, but it fails to convince the reader
that corporal punishmentis the best option.
He supports his argument by providing some good amount of evidences; however,
he seems to go with some week witnesses. The first reason he points out that about
1.6 million Americans were in jail that year (1997) which represented a 250 percent
increase in 1980, and the number is climbing (par 3). Obviously, at this argument he
wants to demonstrate the weakness of the federal justice system when using
imprisonment for almost every offense in the criminal code (par 3). However, his
assumption is quite vague in his first argument. We cannot literally say that the
increase in the number of prisoners means the increase of crime. Besides that, he
cannot assume that capturing more and more criminals and putting them in jail is a

Summary
Pure aluminum nanocomposite reinforced with silicon carbide was produced by
powder metallurgy route. Modeling investigations and mechanical experiments were
carried out on the mechanical Behviour. of this nanocomposites .Measurements of
density, tensile properties and hardness showed that the tensile strength and the
porosity of composites increased with the increasing in the amount of the
nanoparticles; however, aluminum ductility was decreased. On the other hand, the
elongation percentage keeps constant with the increasing in the percentage of the
nanoparticles. Wear resistance increased in the composite samples comparing to
alloy. In the current research, a technique based on Artificial Neural Network(ANN)
and Finite Element Method (FEM) was implemented to predict mechanical
properties. It was observed that prediction results in this study are consistent with the
real measurements for composites.

In terms of the reform option, as a country, we absolutely cannot afford to abolish
the Senate, as it serves as, and is meant to be, a body of un biased economic and

In The Haunting of Hill House, Shirley Jackson addresses the pervasiveness of
maternal bonds in a horror based context, and asserts that a mother daughter bond
gives people the nourishment and sense of individuality needed to live out a decent
and sensible life. She engages her readers through the mind of a socially awkward
women named Eleanor, who was ultimately victimized by her mother, and now seeks
to gain a maternal acceptance, a fundamental need or vital blood connection.
Eleanor seeks to fulfill herself by obtaining that motherly bond or that cup of stars
which makes her human an individual identity with a sense of belonging in the
world. Hill House then targets Eleanor s vulnerability, her desperate need for
maternal acceptance, and presents itself as a tempting illusion a mother, someone
who loves her, a place where she can belong to her. Roberta Rubenstein strongly
explicates the idea of Hill House representing a parental figure, which according to
her, poses as both an enticing yet devouring mother with a preoedipal love interest
(Rubenstein). Yet, there is a situational irony taking place; Jackson presents the
text to us in a way in which we can see Hill House s evil attributes, while in turn,
Eleanor decides to foolishly ignore them, and the house begins to consume her as a

Introduction Teen driving allows American youth to have their license between the
ages 13 15. At this age, our American youth are more likely to be careless while
driving without supervision. The younger teen drivers are the more susceptible to

education. Lack of maturity and experiences leads to developing poor drivinghabits.
The teens in the age group 16 18 are usually more mature in handling a motorized
vehicle. States that allow 13 15 year old teens drive are more likely to get in more
car crashes from driving earlier and not having enough experience.
Theoretical Basis: Conflict Perspective The conflict perspective best explains the
issue of young teen driving and their high number of crashes. States in America
believe that teens should practice to get ready to pass the behind the wheel test. The
more people practice behind the wheel, the better they are at driving a motorized
vehicle. So, it is important that teens received the best opportunity they can with the
behind the wheel driving supervisor in order to potentially reduce fatal car crashes
among teens in America.
Individualized instruction is different for each state for behind the wheel. Some
states do not have enough supervised hours which puts teens at the top of fatal
crash rates. Individual states that have about 40 or more supervised hours and have
lower crash rates are for example, the state of Minnesota. This state has 40
supervised hours for teens of which they have to log before they are able to take the

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that as of 2015, 100% of married couples
had at least one family member employed, including 19.4% of married couple
families had no one working. In 36% of that 100, the man was employed in that
relationship. The possible reason why so many Americans aren t working could be
due to the fact that the way money is distributed in America isn t what the people
think it is, and it isn t even close to the ideal. Uneven distribution of wealthis the

interviewed 5,000 Americans on how they thought wealth in the United States was

a little unfairly, with the top 20% owning most of the wealth in a low but even

distribution of wealth, 92% of them (at least 9/10) said that they thought an ideal
distribution had the top 20% barely distinguishable from the middle class with the
bottom percent not too worse off than the bottom 20% of the middle class. The

According to the Wealth Inequality in America video, the CEO of a company
makes 380 times more than the average paid worker. With these numbers, the
average worker must work over a month to make what the CEO makes in an hour.
That s insane, there is no way that the average worker does not work as hard as the
CEO of the company works, the workers are what make the company what it is.
Sure the CEO has worked very hard to get to where they are in the company, but
