1. Reflective Essay On Death
Writing a reflective essay on the subject of death is undoubtedly a challenging endeavor. The
topic itself is laden with complex emotions, and exploring it requires a delicate balance between
introspection and sensitivity. Death is a universal and profound aspect of the human experience,
making it a subject that demands careful consideration and thoughtful expression.
To embark on such an essay, one must navigate the fine line between personal reflection and
broader philosophical contemplation. Addressing one's own feelings and experiences with death
requires a level of self-awareness and emotional maturity that can be demanding to tap into.
Furthermore, delving into the broader implications of mortality necessitates a nuanced
understanding of cultural, religious, and existential perspectives.
The process of writing a reflective essay on death often involves revisiting personal experiences,
memories, or encounters with loss. This introspective journey can be emotionally taxing, as it
may bring forth a range of emotions, from sorrow and grief to acceptance and understanding.
Crafting a narrative that authentically captures the nuances of these emotions while maintaining
a coherent and engaging structure adds another layer of difficulty.
Moreover, articulating thoughts on the profound and existential questions surrounding death
requires a careful choice of language and a deep engagement with philosophical concepts.
Communicating these ideas in a way that resonates with readers and invites them to contemplate
their own perspectives on mortality demands a skillful approach to language and rhetoric.
In conclusion, writing a reflective essay on the topic of death is an intricate process that requires
a delicate balance between personal introspection, cultural awareness, and philosophical
exploration. It is a journey that challenges both the writer's emotional resilience and intellectual
prowess. However, the resulting essay has the potential to offer profound insights into the human
experience and provoke meaningful contemplation.

2. Essay about The First World War
The First World War The First World War began as a spark and exploded into a
merciless blood bath of money, power, and land. The little spark began in the
mountainous Balkans of southeastern Europe where small state sized nations argued
back and forth. For hundreds of years many of these small nations were held under
the gripping powers of Turkey, Russia, and Austria Hungary. It started in the capital
of Bosnia, Sarajevo. Bosnia was also a mini nation of the Austria Hungary Empire.
On the day of June twenty eight, 1914, the leader of Austria Hungary and his wife
were visiting the city. Shots rang out from a young Slavic nationalist heading for the
two. They were both killed. This person lived in the neighboring nation of... Show

powers. Among the allied powers when the war ended were Great Britain, Ireland,
France, Portugal, Italy, Russia, Romania, Serbia, and Greece. In the opposing side
the Central powers were Germany, Austria Hungary, Bulgaria, and Turkey. Other
European nations stayed neutral. In America, people felt that the bloodshed of the
civil war was enough to deal with and fifty years later with handling this war was
too much. The optimistic Americans wanted to stay neutral. By staying neutral
nations were to obey a new set of neutral rights. Any nations that were waged in
war were allowed to stop and inspect neutral vessels at sea under international laws
(which were not policed in any sort of way). This was in order to make sure that
any ship was not the enemy under neutral flags. The warring nations were allowed
to confiscate any materials such as weaponry, if found. German submarines were
threatening these special rights called the freedom of the seas. President Wilson
strictly warned if any American ship was hurt, they would pay. Germany killed
numbers of people with their submarines and sank three American ships. This
heeded for Wilson to call upon the American people to make preparations in case
there is war. On April second, 1917, President Wilson asked for a declaration of war
against Germany. The world must be safe for democracy, he said, as he insisted the

Abstract Enzymes are very specific protein because they contain one active site on
their surface that enable the substrate to bind to the enzyme and form the enzyme
substrate complex and then release the products. The principal function of enzymes is
to increase the rate of the chemical reactions. Enzymes have a set of conditions at
which they work perfectly; this is known as optimal condition. Fungal and bacterial

Fungal Aspergillus oryzae and bacterial Bacillus licheniformis amylase are the two
types of enzymes that will be used during this lab to test the ability of amylase to
break down starch ,a polysaccharide present in our daily diet, into simpler sugars ,
maltose (Smith,et al,2012).
Bacterial amylase is found in different habits for example in human saliva, for this
reason is easy to infer that bacterial amylase would break down the starch better and
faster than the fungal amylase. According to this information amylase activity going
to change higher or lower according to the temperature but it will be faster in
bacterial than in fungal, 100% hydrolysis going to occur between 40В°c to 60В°c
because this is the habitat temperature for these species and this means that is the
optimal temperature, but in bacterial occur in less time than in fungal because are
found in human saliva were chemical digestion begins.
Methods The principal objective of this study was to determine how temperature
affects the activity of amylase enzyme and the optimal temperature for fungal and
bacterial amylase. In order to make this experiment possible we needed fungal
Aspergillus oryzae amylase and bacterial Bacillus licheniformis amylase; 5 ml of
1.5% starch were placed in one test tube
4. BP s Consideration of Outsourcing IT
One of the most important forces of outsourcing is that organizations do not have
gain the needed and required sources internally. And they have a difficulty in
integrating and attracting expertise, where outsources own capabilities on a global
level, modern technologies and other required resources. Also, by outsourcingthe cost
of keeping employees and consultants for short term is reduced. Furthermore,
outsourcers are able to offer better career opportunities for business IT staff if they
decide to transit to the outsourcer. As the manager of BP Company viewed the main
reason of BP Company outsourcing is that it has become increasingly apparent that
service companies provide us with technical skills and ideas that we could no longer
develop inside our own company (Kremis, 2006).
5. Risks and Opportunities Associated with IT Outsourcing
Various previous studies viewed outsourcing concept and have tried to explain its
fact including challenges, risks, motivation, and determinates. Where, the decision of
outsourcing is usually seen as logical and rational decision by senior management
with prediction to gain various benefits and avoid the expected risks. So, both side
of outsourcing should be noticed and taken into considerations when deciding to take
any outsourcing decision, below explanation of these opportunities as well as risks
associated with IT outsourcing, according to (Kremis, 2006; Mui, 2003; sell et al.,

5. Chapter 1-4 Summary Chapter 4
Turkle introduces Chapter Eight by explaining an experiment conducted by faculty
and students at MIT in which students are connected to technology that connects
them to real and online life simultaneously, making them cyborgs . Now that it is
commonplace for most people in our society to have constant access to technology
with similar and vaster capabilities, we have all become cyborgs. Turkle believes
our ability to constantly connect to the online world changes who we are by
rearranging our priorities, our relationship with those around us, and how we connect
with our surroundings. People adore the new devices as well as the feelingthat they
are never truly alone. This constant access has unleashed multitudinous opportunities

Since devices are always readily available people no longer make conscious
choices to communicate, they just do. The online world takes up all of our
attention. This constant connection skews our view of reality. In the online world,
anything is possible but people begin to measure their success in reality by what
would be possible if they were always online. People shaped in a world of quick
responses measure success by the number of people they reached that day. We deny
ourselves downtime in order to have more time for communicating. Constant
communication takes the importance out of what we say. We often worry that our
emails and texts are a burden. They have always seemed destined to be thrown
away. Because of this, we treat people we meet online as objects. Constantly keeping
up with connections changes who we are in the morning. Our cultural forms are
shifting. Networking makes it easier to change your identity, but also harder to leave
the past in the past. Turkle closes the chapter by recalling a conversation with a
student who is exhausted by keeping up with online
6. What The Stars Meant By John Koethe Analysis
There are multiple people who view the stars meaning differently. In What the Stars
Meant by John Koethe had a very beautiful, unique way of expressing what the stars
meant to him. He wrote what the stars meant to him and had described how there is
no right or wrong meaning to the stars. It is to everyone s own perspective. The
theme of this poem is to explain what the stars meant to John Koethe. He wanted to
get people to view the stars that they may not have viewed them before.
Each stanza of his poem has a different meaning of what the stars mean to him.
They each had a new, beautiful way of describing the stars. He described the stars
in ways that I have never heard the stars be described before. He uses imagery to
paint a picture of the glimmering stars in your mind. He changes the imagery as he
changes the different meanings of what the stars mean to him. All throughout the
poem, there are rhymes that help give it some flow and make it more interesting.
He also uses some personification by giving the stars some human like qualities. By
the way John Koethe wrote this poem, it seemed as though that he loves the stars
that sparkle in the night sky. He seems like the type of person who loves both the
stars and anything else that has to do with nature. His way of writing and his topic is
what draws readers in and keeps them interested in his poem.
If someone were to read John Koethe s poem without seeing the title or knowing the
theme, many people may think that John Koeth is talking about and describing the
moon if they would not have seen the title of the poem. They may think this until they
get to line number 3 of stanza number 4 where John Koethe says, The polestar, bid
his adieus, and move on (Koethe 15). This line would be the line that gives you the
idea that John Koethe is talking about the stars and not the moon.
This story is talking about the stars and what they mean to John Koethe. Stars may be
mean something different to everyone. Some people may think that there is nothing
magnificent about them, and some people may think that they are the most beautiful
thing in the world. To John Koethe, the stars were a beautiful object that appeared in
the darkness of the night. He used some

8. Spooky Superstitions In The 21st Century
Spooky Superstitions Step on a crack and you will break your mother s back, a long
ago, superstition but yet is still heard in the 21st century. Today lots of the things
humans use has been through both innovation and science, but yet people still are
wary of superstitions even though most have been disproven. The 5 main superstitions
that are still prevalent in the 21st centuryare buildings not having a 13th floor,
opening an umbrella inside, saying bless you, naming boats, and the most recently
big one, that in 2012 the world would end. When looking at the first superstition
that buildings do not have a 13th floor the origin story is very interesting mainly
because it does not have its own origin story but because it stems from another
superstition. This superstition is the number 13 and how it is an unlucky number.
The origin of the number 13 is when looking at history 12 was considered a perfect
number, the ancient Sumerians developed a numeral system based on the use of
12 and it was heavily integrated into our time measurement system because of 2 12
hours in a day, 12 months in a year. Spiritually, there was 12 apostles, 12 Greek
gods, 12 tribes of Israel, 12 of Hercules labours all of these containing the number
12 and 13 was considered an unlucky number because there wasn t a 13 of anything
when a number 12 became 13 something bad happened or just was bad lucklike for
example the 13th person to sit at the last supper was Judas who then betrayed Jesus
or 12 gods
9. Thomas Jefferson s Role In The Louisiana Purchase
Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States, serving from March 4,
1801 to March 4, 1809. The election realigned politics, and the Democratic
Republican party swept the Federalist party out of power. Jeffersons administration
was successful in many foreign and domestic issues. The Jeffersonians achievements
over the presidency greatly developed the size and politics of the country.
One of Thomas Jefferson greatest accomplishments during incumbency was his role
in the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase nearly doubled the size of
America and was essential in our expansion. The land was purchased by the U.S. in
1803 from Napoleon Bonaparte of France. America only paid $15 million in the
purchase which was an exceptional
10. 90 Tickets Of Instant Noodles Character Analysis
The novel 90 Packets of Instant Noodles, written by Deb Fitzpatrick. The novel
involves the act of growing up and a twist of adventure. It is about a boy named Joel
who gets sent off to solitary confinement as punishment for a crime that has been
committed. Through the book we examine how each character faces an internal
struggle or moral dilemma within themselves. The characterJoel faces moral
dilemmas of friendship, guilt and not doing the right thing. In the novel, we also
notice Joel s father face internal struggles which involve his son being such a
troublemaker because of the father son relationship they have. Lastly, we witness
Joel s best mate Craggs, who faces the internal struggles of familyand not being
loved. All of the characters... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Craggs displays the internal struggle of family through direct characterisation. On
pages 89 90 you read Joel thinking about Craggs s family problems. From page 90
you notice how as all the shouting an anger coming from inside is being made an
all Craggs does is keep his little sister Hannah safe and reassuring her everything
will be okay. This shows us a more soft, sensitive side of Craggs. Craggs doesn t
have a stable home lifestyle from indirect characterisation which represents the
way he acts out, in order to gain his parents attention, instead of always fighting
with each other. On page 157 Craggs say to Joel in the letter I had to lie on my
release conditions and say I d be living with the old s (as if that would ever help
me), this signifies how Craggs thinks his parents don t care about him. Another
struggle Craggs face is the fear of not being loved. Craggs doesn t have any
affection from anyone besides his sister and Joel. He fears that he want ever be
loved. In the text we read how Craggs only friend is Joel and how Joel is the person
Craggs can be honest and loyal too. But after the whole incident Craggs fear he has a
lost that sense of affection. All of his internal struggles associated in the novel are
presented throughout the whole

Corporate Governance and Auditor s independence.
Auditors are reputational intermediaries that receive a far smaller benefit than do
their clients from the operations they certify. Since they share none of the gains
and are exposed to a large fraction of the risk in the form of reputational erosion and
also legal liability. Corporations however face significant costs when they sack an
auditorgatekeeper because the market interprets the decision as a signal of hidden
problems within the company. So they can credibly offer a safeguarding key service
to investors and creditors even though they are paid by companies.
Growing auditor involvement in non audit services offered their corporate clients an
ace at the table. Their clients could now covertly discipline their auditors through the
threat of the reduction of the non audit service income. Corporations could leverage
influence because of agency problems concerning their auditors incentives. In such
situations corporate governance within the audit firm becomes crucial. When internal
control is not effective, the problem can be catastrophic as it was for Arthur Anderson
in the Enron debacle. The usual corporate
12. Analysis Of Waller Im Schnee
The eighth part of Waller im Schnee describes the separation of the two
companions from the previous poems through the image of the destruction of a
flower that is dying despite the speaker s good care. He prefers to break it rather
than to watch it wither slowly and be constantly reminded of better days. The
poem consists of three stanzas with alternate rhymes. Like the surrounding poems,
it is written in regular iambic pentameter. The first stanza sets the scene and
describes the relationship between the speaker and the flower. The good care the
flower receives is brought out in several ways. Two of the rhyme words, hege (to
tend) and pflege (care, nurture), the latter even with the preceding adjective guten
(good), mention it directly. The flower has the best place in the room, namely the
window. It grows in a grey piece of porcelain or ceramic where it is kept safe from
frost. The alliteration Verwahrt vorm froste (v. 2) emphasises the protection its
container offers. Oddly, the flower grows in a shard, whose broken state and grey
colour suggest the care it receives is not as good as the speaker claims. Perhaps, he
has nothing else to put the flower... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The assonance frГјhern blГјhenden (v. 5) conveys its former beauty. The speaker
seems to be profoundly affected by the change in the flower and wants to eradicate
( merzen , v. 6) all traces of it from his memory. Hence, he takes a sharp tool,
probably a knife, to break it. The exaggeration scharfe waffen (sharp edged
weapons) makes his sudden action seem even more dramatic. According to Lentz,
he wants the ugliness to superimpose the memory of the flower s beauty. Thus, the
speaker tries to take control and prevail over his object of desire. Lentz elaborates
further that this act of desperation is also a subtle kind of suicide of the speaker and
the poet respectively, as the flower is also a symbol for

14. Incarceration Of The United States Prisons
The United States prison population has expanded at an increasingly rapid rate over
that past several decades. Each day, more and more criminal offenders are sent to
prisons; most of which were designed to house fewer inmates but are now packed to
their limits. This mass incarceration era as many scholars and commentators of the
Criminal JusticeSystem call it, is a result of several key issues that have created an
environment within the correctional system that forces many inmates to serve longer
prisonsentences while increasing recidivism rates. Current federal and state
sentencing policies have resulted in historically high rates of offender recidivism
and the highest incarceration rates in the world (Warren, 2007). As a result, prison
population and overcrowding has rapidly increased and has become a serious issue
across the country however, a reform in sentencing policies, more early release
incentives, and reintegration back into society through rehabilitation will help
reduce recidivism and prevent the continuing rise of prison populations. (change
once paper is complete) The United States houses the largest prison population of
the world at 25 percent and returns the greatest amount of inmates back into society.
Currently, there are over two million people incarcerated in the U.S. with
approximately the same number of inmates being released each year (Haney, 2015
p. 416). Many people wonder why prison overcrowding has become such a big issue
when there is an

Traveling the world opens up the mind to new ways of thinking. Everyone wants to
travel; they just aren t sure about where they want to go. People can choose from
thousands of places around the world; however when deciding whether to vacation in
India or the United Arab Emirates(UAE), there are many factors to consider. The
United Arab Emiratesand India have an innumerable amount of differences; because
of this, these places attract different people. For a significant number of reasons,
the United Arab Emirates is a worthier place to vacation compared to India. Living
standards in India and the United Arab Emirates are significantly different to each
other. The United Arab Emirates has better living standards when compared to
India. With a population of 1.31 billion people, India remains much more
populated than the UAE; 1,300,840,000 more people live in India when compared
to the UAE( United Arab Emirates vs India ). The difference in these numbers is
immense. India being so populated results in chaos and louder streets (Brown,
Poirier). This doesn t sound like a place anyone would want to vacation. When
searching for a place to vacation, most people prefer places that aren t so crowded
and polluted. Because of this, the UAE remains the best choice for a vacation spot.
The UAE isn t anywhere near as crowded and chaotic as India. Tourists can move
around the country without feeling overwhelmed all the time by the amount of
people around them. In addition to India being

true struggle to success. He goes through life in college as a first year law student

This is not always a bad thing though. Through failures people grow stronger and
learn for next time. Hart throughout the movie experienced many of these failures.
As in one section of the movie, Kingsfield asked Hart to do some research for him
and have ten pages done with only the weekend to do it. Hart put all he could into
the research, sacrificing everything outside of school just to please Kingsfield.
Then when Monday came, Hart brought his research, which was not completely
finished, and Kingsfield told him he no longer needed it. Kingsfield had a more
experienced student also do it and had it done on time. Hart took this very hard
and was definitely considered a failure on his part. Although as the rest of the
movie unfolds, you see Hart comes back from this failure and proves his knowledge
to Kingsfield. As you see, you must have those failures in your journey so you can
bounce back even better than before. These failures help make the person stronger
and have a better outlook on their

At the latter end of the p q interval, atrial contraction occurs forcing additional blood
into the ventricles. At the beginning of the QRS interval on an ECG reading, the
mitral valve closes and the ventricles are at EDV (135ml). During the QRS interval,
ventricular contraction occurs increasing the pressure in the ventricle and the
aorta. When the pressure continues in the ventricle exceeds the pressure in the
arteries, the aortic valve opens and blood is ejected. The increased pressure
continues through the t peak. The ventricles are now in ESV (65ml) and the aortic
valve is closed. Now the ventricles are relaxed causing pressure to fall and the
cardiac cycle starts over again. This ECG reading was from a normal tracing. Keep
in mind that an ECV is easy to obtain, but there are some subtleties that are very
complex.
Exercise increases heart rate by a process of sympathetic autonomic stimulation.
Sympathetic (adrenergic) nerves increase the excitability of the sino atrial node and
reduce the P R interval .As exercise continues, the physiological changes in the body
are continuously monitored by a number of physiological systems and the balance of
activity of the sympathetic system (speeding up) and the parasympathetic system
(slowing down) is constantly adjusted. When exercise is over, the heart rate does not
drop immediately as the body has to undergo a period of re adaption to return to the
resting state.

Single and Not Ready to Mingle So many single people are under the impression
that they are ready to mingle again, but they are wrong! Are you one of them? How
ready do you think you are to mingle once more? People are single for many
different reasons. Some of the common reasons include that they choose to be
single, just came out of an emotional relationship and went through a trying
breakup, or that they find it difficult to meet the perfect partner. Being Single by
Choice People regularly choose to be alone and there is nothing wrong with that.
Some people perform better in life with a partner alongside them, but you find just

and people make this particular choice for the following reasons: They are
happiest when alone and totally love their own life They find being single to be a

unaccompanied They have never been very social and are introverted around others
Depressed people find that being alone alleviates the depression Being alone give

The Significance of a Single Soul How can one single person make a difference in
the world? It seems impossible that a single person can make a difference in such a
large world but it happens all the time. In history, many people have made very
notable influences in the the way we live today. They have indeed changed the
world forever. Literature illustrates this very same principle time and time again. In
Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, for example, Brutus is burdened with two choices:
stay loyal to Caesar or join Cassius s conspiracy. Brutus eventually decides on
joining Cassius because he sees it as the healthier alternative for the Roman
Republic. He murders Caesar with the group and the repercussion is brutal.

22. Functionalist Theory Of Xenophobias
Sociology is the scientific study of social behavior and human groups. It looks at how
others influence our behavior; how major social institutions like the government,
religion, and the economy affects us, and how we ourselves affect other individuals,
groups, and even organizations. Sociologists use their social imagination to
understand the relationship between people and how the world shapes us humans.
Sociologists use macro and/or microsociology to understand society and relationships.
There is the functionalist perspective that believes that everything contributes to an
organisms survival. They believe that everything fits a cycle. It is similar to Darwin s
theory of evolution in that functionalist say that if something does not improve...

government discriminated the black men from Alabama. They allowed their view
of their superiority rule that it was acceptable to let the black men die. Once they
injected the syphilis to the men or refused to treat them, they attempted to erase
them from society. By doing this, they discriminated the black men. This
discrimination was a result of their views on race. They believed that black people
were inferior to white Americans. With this set of beliefs, they justified their
actions. Allowing the black men to die from syphilis was an effect of racism.
Without the belief that the white men are inferior to black men, the discrimination
would not have happened. The idea of racism leading to discrimination goes hand in
hand with prejudiceness. Once there is a misrepresentation of a certain group, it can
lead to prejudice. In the Tuskegee syphilis experiment, they believe that whites
experienced more neurological complications from syphilis whereas blacks were
more susceptible to cardiovascular damage (The Tuskegee). This pre conceived
notion led to the separation of blacks and whites in the experiment. They also used
this to justify their action to only treat or more accurately, not treat black men. Their
oppression created victims. There are still many isms that plague our society today.
Sexism was very prevalent throughout history, and is still a big issue in many other
countries. Many women have fought to change this cultural belief in the
23. Study Of The United Kingdom
For the writing assignment this semester, I decided to study the United Kingdom. I
chose this country primarily because of Scotland and Ireland s historical prevalence
in agriculture. Both countries have a substantial amount of arable land and as such
are important to agriculture. Additionally, when people talk about beautiful, fertile
land they typically bring up both of these countries. Therefore, I am interested in
studying the agricultural significance of the region.
In order to have a thorough understanding of the agricultural position in Scotland, it is
essential that the demographic for the country is clearly laid out. According to the
Scotland s Census, a website detailing demographic information about Scotland, the
population of Scotland in 2011 was 5.3 million. This value was the highest recorded
in Scotland whose population is currently increasing at a rate of approximately
0.49% annually. However, there has been increased concern for Scotland due to the
fact that their population is steadily aging. There are currently 311 out of every 1000
citizens that are at a pensionable age. The Scottish government expects this number to
increase to 397 by 2039.
Scottish populations have struggled until most recently in history. This is due to a
few different historical issues. First, Scotland was faced with mass emigration both in
the 19th and 20th centuries. In the 19th century, a large percentage of Scotts were
forced to leave their homeland. In the 20th century, a large

LifeStrawВ® are forms of mass separating agents used in the barrier separation
technique. The entire process is driven by a difference in pressure between the top
and bottom of the tube as a person inhales from the mouthpiece of the straw.
Absolutely no electricity is required for this process. The first filter the water
reaches as it makes its way up the straw is a mesh that helps to separate dirt,
sediment, and other larger solids found in water due to the environment. A finer
mesh just above that one holds back large, water born bacteria. Early designs used

Nowadays, the LifeStrawВ® is chemical free. Instead, ultrafiltration happens in the
main chamber of the straw that is filled with long, hollow fibers. For gas
permeation, hollow fiber tubes allow the filtration to occur under small pressure
drops depending on the diameter of the fiber. Although this is not a gas permeation
case, it would explain why the low inhalation pressure provided by human lungs is
sufficient for this separation process if the processes are similar. The hollow fibers
also indicate that the flow pattern of this separation is cross flow system like the
one shown in figure 2. The fibers are made of UltrasonВ® E 6020 P Resin, a
polyethersulfone, and is popular in the pharmaceutical, food, and oil industries.
Polyethersulfone is a semipermeable membrane tolerant to ether and aromatic
solvents. It can be used in any solution of pH 0 13 and can withstand up to 220В°C
in a short term time period. Its membrane is capable of filtering any particles larger
than 20 nm. That is equivalent to dividing the width of a strand of hair about 9,000
times. Those particles include 99.99% of bacteria and protozoan cysts that can cause

25. Gene and Vincent
This story is about the fight of the under dog. How are the themes of prejudice and
courage developed in the film GATTACA? Gattaca directed by Andrew Niccol, is
set in a future where science, and not religion, has taken over society. A new form
of discrimination has arisen, called genoism, discrimination according to one s
genetic purity. The story follows a man named Vincent Freeman who was born as a
god child this means he was genetically inferior to people born with the aid of
technology. Vincent faces extreme genetic discrimination and prejudice, making it
harder for his life long dream of being an astronaut. But we soon find that with
courage and determination Vincent can rise up and live his dream despite being...

If Vincent were to be exposed as an invalid he would lose his position and would be
subject to fines. Just like the rest of his life Vincent would be a victim of genetic
discrimination. While all this chaos is happening at Gattaca, we find out that the
detective in charge is Vincent s brother Anton. Anton tries to convince Vincent to
go with him before he is found out by the other detectives. It soon becomes clear
that Anton is doing this more out of insecurity and is more concerned with how
Vincent has managed to get the better of him, despite his supposed genetic
superiority. Vincent and Anton settle their dispute the way they did when they
were kids, by seeing who could swim further out into the ocean. As it happens
Vincent rises up and beats Anton and saves him from drowning. This is simply
because he refused to save any strength for the swim back; he is willing to risk
everything to succeed. This is a perfect example of a fight of the underdog; Vincent
used all his strength and beat his brother despite his genetic disadvantages. In
conclusion, the film shows many themes of prejudice and discrimination towards
Vincent, simply because of his genetic make up, but this film is about the fight of
the underdog and how Vincent rose up and reached his goal despite being put down
his whole life and being inferior to his brother, friends and co workers. As Vincent
says in the film there is no gene for fate simply

The Best Death Ever Niall Griffiths
By Christian Steenfeldt, 3.U
Children cannot differentiate between what is fun and what is serious. In the short
story The Best Death Ever by Niall Griffiths four boys are playing a game where
they have to fake a death. The boy whoever fakes the best death wins the game. The
four boys do not understand what they are doing and see the game, The Best Death
Ever, as a fun game. Until one moment, when one of the boys misjudges the distance

their toy guns.

The story is a flashback of roughly 45 60 minutes of his life. The narrator looks back
at that special episode of his life and he turns all nostalgic.
The boys are strongly inspired by war movies and war stories told by the elderlies.
The narrator has received a toy gun from his granddad. He knows a lot about it
because of his big interest in war. As almost every other boy, they playgames with
guns and death involved. The problem is not that the boys play war, but that they
cannot differentiate between where the fun stops. In this game Gavin almost killed
himself, but it was not on purpose. A problem is, when the mom notices Gavin, she
immediately saves him. Then she slaps the narrator. By slapping the narrator she
punishes him for something that he does not know is wrong. The narrator is angry,
because they have to award Gavin the price of the best death.
I would shock and shake them all with the violence of my going. But we never
played the game again.
Because his mother hit him and did not tell him what they did wrong, he does not
understand consequences. Therefore he still wants to win the game next time and he
wants to put even more violence in than Gavin did. Luckily they never played the
game again, because nobody knows what would have happened then.
This story is a perfect example to show that taking extra care of your children is
highly necessary. If you do not teach your kid what is dangerous and what is not, it
will have serious consequences. As in

Cinderella in a Black Dress Goneril is not one of the evil stepsisters from
Cinderella. Her many faces, in fact, stem from the same source and are not as
different as one may conceive. The truth lies in one of her lines in Act 1, Scene 1.
There is further compliment of leave taking between France and him [Lear]. Pray
you let s hit together. If our father carry authority with such disposition as he bears,
this last surrender of his will but offend us (I, i, 331 4). The statement can be

whom she is referring to. Since Lear has already divided the land between his two

This is a commonality in female characters in antiquated and modern
entertainment. Juliet, from Romeo and Juliet, allows her emotions to take
complete control of herself and ends up dead because of her impulsiveness. Yet,
something about Goneril is stronger and more developed. Goneril s emotions are
logical. She seems to know what she wants and to take action accordingly. She
doesn t allow the emotion to define her so much as the actual planning. When
people think of Romeo and Juliet, they will typically think about love and
impulsive behavior. When people think of Hamlet they think of his madness. And
yet, with Goneril, people think about wickedness and betrayal, which are very
calculating labels. Goneril has to plan out every act she wishes to commit. She
doesn t have a Hamlet moment, in which she slips and murders Polonius. Goneril
comes off as composed up until her suicide, which is the only indication of how
remorseful she actually is. She seems relatively robotic through the play. Yet, if
Cordelia were taken out of the play, Goneril might not seem so antagonistic.
Goneril has a right to feel frustrated and like she s losing her father as he loses his
mind. She has a right to feel frustrated about Lear s entourage invading her space
and hindering the development of the kingdom. However, Goneril goes too far.
Goneril s ultimate problem is that she does wear at least one mask, but it isn t the
caring woman; it s the deceptive traitor. No one
28. Personal Culture And World View
It is a big undertaking to attempt to explain one s culture and world view in a few
words. My culture and world view began within the house I was raised. I come
from a white, middle class family, with a household of 5. My mom and dad both
worked very hard to maintain a middle class living status for their family, and made
many sacrifice. Values that were stressed in my household were loyalty, work
ethic, family bonds, and character. Religion did not play a big part in my
household growing up, and lack of religion, or self reliance was stressed more.
Both of my parents worked, however gender roles were pretty obvious in my
house. My mother not only worked, but also took care of many of the household
chores, while my father handled lawn work, mechanical tasks, etc. The biggest
world view that sticks out for me that I learned growing up is that if you work hard
enough, you can achieve anything. However, you have to work for it there are no
hand outs. In writing this, I can think back to many times where racial, or racist,
statements were made in my house. It can be hard to talk about, and I cannot
provide justification for many of the comments. Our home was about 10 blocks
from public housing. I can recall driving past, and many times, my dad pointing out
the fact that those people didn t have to work for anything. He would often say,
look, we are paying for their houses with our tax money, and they drive better cars
and wear better clothes then we do. This had a

Southern gothic literature is partly inspired by gothic literature. Southern gothic
literature is a southern genre where the story is focused around gruesome or dreary
ideas. The characters are also normally damaged, delusional or mentally ill. In the
two short stories, A Rose for Emily and A Good Man is Hard to Find both have
elements of southern gothicliterature. In A Good Man is Hard to Find , one example
of southern gothic literature is when the family is on their trip and they drive by
their old plantation s family graveyard, and it had six graves, which was the same
amount of people sitting in the car. The six graves show that each family member
will soon pass away. Another example of southern gothic literature that is seen in
the short story was The Misfit . The misfit was seen as a murderer and horrific. He
was blamed for killing his own father but claimed that he was innocent. ( It was a

Theory and history I always thought never go together and when it was required for
me to take History 302 I was very confused why it was a theory class. At the start
and throughout the class it was a struggle to keep up what it meant to look at history
through a Marxist, cultural, or social lens and how that had anything to do with
theory. The class was a struggle but not impossible as each article or monograph that
were given out for readings provided insight of what these lens were meant to do.

Marxist lens allowed me to change my grand narrative view of history and be able
to see the struggle between two parties and how that was rooted in many
monographs and lectures. When we were discussing about Marxist and Marxism I
connected more closely with that than the other lens that was taught later in the
year. I always saw the struggle between two parties as the root in every history and
monographs but always assumed that it was how history was researched and
taught. It slightly changed my perspective as I now know that my lens was not
grand narrative but more of a Marxist. This allowed my progression as a history
student to be able to look at monographs and be able to figure out the viewpoint the
historian is trying to establish to the readers. I had the most difficult time with
Foucault and his social theory as it was hard to separate what I believed was
economic when it was social. Eric Avila and his cultural theory was a bit easier for
me as I felt more comfortable with cultural theory compared to social theory. This
class provided me with different monographs based on each theory that has

An organization continually makes decisions at all levels. Until the past decade, most
organizations and their managers and employees operated in an information and
knowledge fog, making decisions based on best guesses about the past and present,
and making expensive errors in the process. Many have failed throughout the course
trying to improve the decision making process, there are many ways that contribute to
the failure. Organizations can easily miss the market, by not having the right
intelligence, analysis, not acting on agreements, having inadequate capitalization or
simply because the competitors are doing better job. Another crucial failure during
the process is poor execution, when there is ineffective leadership, inefficient
operations, and excessive costs. Not following the right strategies is another
contributor of failure, not having the right products and services, ineffective
marketing, utilizing outdated technologies and not adjusting to the frequent changes
on the market in today s competitive world. Nevertheless, several steps can guide us
to making the right decision. The first is to declare a decision, recognize that an
organization ought to make a decision, second is to decide what to make with that
decision and finally execute the decision to create results and changes in the outcome
of those decisions. There are four stages in the decision making, intelligence, design,
choice and implementation. All of these steps consist of discovering,

...
Knights are one of the most mistaken figures of the medieval era due to fairytales and
over exaggerated fiction novels. When medieval knights roamed the earth, it was
known that they were only human and, like humans, had faults. These knights did not
always live up to the standards designated by society. However, in The Canterbury
Tales, the knightis revealed as a character that would now be considered a knight in
shining armor, a perfect role model in how he acts and what he does. Modern day
people see them as chivalrous figures instead of their actual role as mounted cavalry
soldiers. As time passes, the idea of what a knight is changes from a simple cavalry
soldier to a specific type of behavior.

In The Canterbury Tales, the knight is a modern type of knight. Although the
description of this character s personality is vague, it is not hard for modern day
people to visualize him. In the prologue, it mentions that the knight follows the five
basic ideals that a good knight should possess: chivalry, Truth, honour,
generousness, and courtesy (Chaucer 4). The knight fought in the Crusades, wars in
which Europeans traveled by sea to non Christian places and tried to convert people
s culture by brute force, which was considered noble and brave hearted. From his
love of the five basics ideals previously mentioned to his impressive military career,
the knight is a perfect example of how a knight should be represented. Indirectly, the
tale is discussing both the knight and the idea of how a knight should be. The tale
does not describe much about the knight as in physical appearances and
characteristics of this knight but as the tale comes to an end, the book starts to unfold
how this story connects with this character. The tale itself is not important yet it s
what the tale represents that is important, such as pursuing courtly love, risking death,
and respecting women. All of the previously mentioned attributes are ones that
knights should possess to achieve expected standards.
A knight s characteristics are usually described by using power and authority but, in
actuality, the knight is just a servant to a higher authority. An

40. The Lego Group
The LEGO Group is recently experiencing a problematic phase, which has situated
the organization with a deficit of 1.8 billion DKK. The problems experienced by The
LEGO Group can be attributed to not being able to manage as well as stabilize a
strategic supply chain. Successful SCM is crucial for a manufacturing firm in order
to harmonize the production process and internal information with demand for the
product. When considering the importance of supply chain management,
organizations need to study its effect on other major business processes as well as
how it will influence the organization as a whole. Supply chain management may
directly or indirectly influence major process such as inventory, capital investments,
distribution... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
LEGO purchased a plastic injection molding machine in 1947 to create the plastic
version of LEGO bricks (they were originally wooden), and then expanded to pursue
the idea of a toy system where various toys would be included in a line of related
products. Items such as doll furniture were also developed as LEGO Group looked to
enter different markets. During the 1970 s the foundation of the company s
manufacturing facilities and research and development department were established
to keep the manufacturing methods up to date. A LEGO production plant was opened
in Enfield, Connecticut in the United States. This growth enabled The LEGO Group
to continue expanding their product offering over the decades to eventually land at 6
product segments by 2007: pre school products, creative building, play themes,
licensed products, mindstorm NXT, LEGO Education, and LEGO games. The
consolidated portfolio was meant to reflect the need for more challenging stimulation
as children grow and develop.
Key Problems
This expansion was not well managed and a host of factors developed leading to
the decline in 2004. First was a loss of confidence in the core product, the LEGO
brick, as the company continued to diversify its product portfolio. Significant
forecast errors driven primarily by unpredictable seasonal demand fluctuations led to
inventory issues where LEGO lacked one component or held too many of another in
stock. The global toy
41. What Word Home Means To You Essay
What the Word Home Means to You
Home noun
1. The place where you live.
2. The place where you where born or feel you belong.
I feel that the dictionary meaning of home is the same as my opinion of the word.
Home for me is where I feel without care and is where I can live without fear. My
home is in Bolden Colliery, South Shields in that unique northeastern town of
Newcastle in England.
For me it was very hard to establish where home was because my parents are of
different nationalities. My mother is English and my father is Croatian. I chose
England to be the place of my home. I chose this because I was born there and
because I also have a house there. Most of my childhood ... Show more content on

For example here people can make more money due to the taxation rates and
people can buy more luxury items. I benefit from being able to roam the streets
alone until eleven o clock at night. In England I would have to be at home at eight
o clock or go out with a big group of friends for security. Naturally I love these
benefits. The feature about Dubai that I dislike is that good friends a very hard to
come across. This is partly because, in my opinion, people here are very fake and
do not appreciate how lucky they are to be here. Another reason why it is hard to
make good friends is because your friend or you will have to leave the country. This
is due to a new contract that your parents have received, to work in another country,
or the current contract to work in this country has ended.
My house in Dubai is a single story, terraced villa and is situated in a nice area of the
rapidly evolving city. The villa has a total of six rooms. It has two spacious bedrooms,
one equipped with an en suite bathroom. The second bathroom is found in the hall.
Moving from the hall the next room is the kitchen. This room is very spacious, light
and airy. There are light grey tiles on the floor and white tills running up the walls.
The kitchen is equipped with the usual: fridge, cooker and washing machine. These
are all silver to match the tiles. The
42. The Freedom Of Hate Speech
The United States of America is one the most democratic nations in the world, due
to the fact that it permits its citizens many freedoms and liberties that other
countries do not allow. Examples of these liberties include the right to bear arms,
freedom of religion, lack of restrictions for the press, rights to a fair trial by jury, and
one of the more controversial, freedom of speech. The American government and its
citizens have stretched the first amendment and the right to free speech to the point
that it covers all types of speech, including hate and violent speech. The First
Amendment of the Constitution was not intended to cover the freedom of hate speech,
but over the past decade, the government s and American citizen s views have been
altered to put restrictions on these constitutional rights. The government should not
enforce laws that make forms of hate speech illegal, including discriminatory speech
on college campuses, acts of hateful violence, and uncensored content on the internet.
On college campuses, free expression of political and religious affiliations has
always been encouraged and accepted by the university and other students up until
recent years due to the political tensions that have arose. Students and Professors
have brought up their concerns for various kinds of speech that offend and
traumatize them, such as conservative speech or values. These liberals are straying
away from their core beliefs of tolerance for everyone because they are
43. Elie Wiesel s Speech The Perils Of Indifference
Indifference elicits no response. Indifference is not a response. Indifference is not a
beginning; it is an end. (American Rhetoric). This is a sentiment that Elie Wiesel
pushes throughout his speech, The Perils of Indifference. Elie Wiesel was a
Romanian born, Jewish writer, and was a survivor of the holocaust(Berger). In his
speech, The Perils of Indifference, he discusses how indifference has hurt him, and
everyone throughout the world. In this speech Wiesel uses appeals to pathos to
make his argument effective. Examples are scattered across the speech to make it
more appealing, and provide real world context for what he is arguing about. The
last of the rhetorical choices the speaker makes is definition, in this speech Wiesel
defines indifference, and uses this definition to prove why indifference hurts people.
In Elie Wiesels speech, The Perils of Indifference, he argues that indifference hurts
people, and his argument is effective by using various rhetorical choices. The Perils
of Indifference is a speech which uses appeals to the listener s emotions to make it
effective. Fifty four years ago to the day, a young Jewish boy from a small town in
the Carpathian Mountains woke up,...He was finally free, but there was no joy in his
heart. (American Rhetoric). This statement grabs at the listener s emotions, the
listener feels pity for the young boy with no joy. The listener feels deeply for the boy
because kids should be filled with joy and look at the world
44. Prohibition Of The Face Of Drug Prohibition Laws
Drugs or Don t? Tied Liberty in the face of Drug Prohibition Laws
Prohibition goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man s
appetite by legislation and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A
prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was
founded. Abraham Lincoln
Prohibition is a word for containment; it is an act of limiting and holds a spirit of
negation. It limits our independent and individualist choices. It is not a democratic
value unless devised by the citizens. Prohibiting something on the basis of unsure
logistics and deviant arguments is not the way a democracy thrives. There is a fine
line between democracy and authoritarianism. Maybe the governments today need to
realize this fine conception!
Abstract
It has been in our history and we all have suffered through this centered decision
making! Prohibition by the reasons of certain group of elites in the power structure is
the major malice of democracy. Drug Prohibition is one such veiled prophecy
/execution that provides a disastrous outcome. The central argument of my paper is
How modern day capitalism in all its variations offers an explanation (negative) to
the entire scenario of drug prohibition? What can be the benefits of this entire
arrangement and who are the major beneficiaries remains a crucial query. The recent
outrage in Philippines, the age old war on Drugs led by the US and the billion dollar

Influences of Romanticism Romanticism originates from the late 18th century and
embodies staunch individualism and the ability to express intense emotions.
Additionally, it is a movement in literature and the arts that went against classical
and neoclassical movements in order to embrace spiritual relationships with
nature. Two works of fine art that strongly correspond with each other are William
Blake s A Poison Tree and Idina Menzel s Let It Go . A Poison Tree is a popular
short poem published in 1794, and brings forth the understanding of emotion and
experience. Let It Go is from a popular 2013 movie, by the name of Frozen, which

This line of Blake s poem shines light on emotion, And I waterd it in fears, /Night
morning with my tears: /And I sunned it with smiles, /And with soft deceitful wiles
(Blake). The character s emotions are drawn into comparison of a plant. He
watered this plant with his fears and his tears to make sure his plant got enough
sunshine. Yet instead of real sunshine he gave deceitful wiles , which goes to show
the deceptiveness he was planning with all the anger that filled him. On the other
hand, Let It Go draws to a grand metaphor, I don t care what they re going to say, let
the storm rage on (Menzel). The storm symbolizes other peoples concerns and how
she is beginning to understand that their values and morals should not affect her.
Overall, at this point in the song the character is overcome with emotion and her
passion for her true identity is born. Both works evoke emotion as they are met with
conflicts of their own, leading to eventual emotional outbursts. Emotion plays a
pivotal role in Romanticism by representing a timeless aspect of individual
46. Pros And Cons Of Controlling School Lunches
The government controls the amount of calories in a school lunch to make sure
kids get a fulfilling lunch. Although schools cannot make them buy a healthy
product they control what they put out for the kids to eat. The healthy, hunger free
kids act in 2010 signed by former President Obama has helped all it can in bringing
down obesity. Parents can barely control what the kids eat also, they can t be right
behind their backs at all time. They could have sugar and calories for breakfast a
half healthy lunch and there parents wouldn t know this and give them more
calories for dinner. You aren t born knowing what is right from wrong this needs to
be taught. Many people disagree with the government controlling school lunches.
68% say they shouldn t be doing this. 32% say this is okay and, should be
happening (Debate pg. 1) Many parents want to be able to control what their child
eats and not the government but, the other 32% feel the government is making the
right choice and, they should be the only one controlling this. There are many
different programs to help a kid make a healthy choice, programs to help a parent
understand what to feed their child. But today 17% of school kids are obese, this is
triple the rate it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kids would be more food crazed. What is put on the table is not only what the
parents eat but the child too. This can be seen anywhere you go. Parents don t by
salads for the kid and chicken nuggets for themselves so everyone is eating the
same food. If kids don t learn to eat healthy at home, the school has a chance to
teach them. But when the kids go home, they only have unhealthy food to eat.
Kids develop a taste for sugar at a young age and want it when they are older. Some
kids develop a taste for caffeine and diet soda. When they try not to drink it, they get
headaches and can t focus. This happens for adults and it is a worse effect on

Super Size Me Numerous individuals around the world are familiar with McDonald

food giant. Super Size Me is an in depth film by Morgan Spurlock, which shows
viewers his journey from healthy eating to becoming a fast food junkie. Viewers are

Watching him wake up early in the morning having a hard time breathing and
complaining of heart palpitations makes even the most avid McDonald s patron
want to stop eating their harmful food. During a checkup after experiencing the
heart palpitations, Dr. Isaacs tells Spurlock Your cholesterol is now 225 and your
liver is inflamed. The doctor advises him to stop eating McDonald s food. It is
shocking to see that after only two weeks on a McDonald s diet an individual can
become severely ill. Dr. Isaacs tells Spurlock You are pickling your liver much like
an alcoholic does when drinking. My advice is to stop. Stop this fatty diet. Two
weeks later Spurlock s final weigh in indicates that he has gone from 185.5 lbs. to
210 lbs. He has gained a total of 24.5 lbs., which has increased his total body fat
from 11% to 18%. It is astonishing to see that thirty days of a fast food diet can
cause so much damage to an individual s body. The unhealthy effect fast food has
on the body is no longer deniable to individuals who have seen the film. Schools
play a vital role in the health and well being of their students. Spurlock gives viewers
a look into three different schools and the nutrition they supply their students.
