As the 19th century continued, America expanded away from the east coast, across the Mississippi
westward. After many western states joined the Union, hundreds of thousands of pioneers migrated to
the new territories, which shifted the majority of the country s population to the West. With so much
uninhabited and unorganized land available, the desire for more land brought aspiring pioneers to the
frontier. As enticing as the idea was, something else was persuading many people to migrate
westward. Manifest Destiny became a widely used concept amongst future pioneers. This concept

Once ingested, sugar causes blood glucose levels to frequently spike and drop. When blood sugar is
unstable, it can lead to headaches, fatigue, and mood swings. Low blood sugar triggers the release of

to write literature. All literature uses some type of tone, a point of view, and symbols. This tools for
writing help tell the story by giving the reader the emotions, perspective and the hidden messages,
making the story come alive to reader and in captivating the reader into the story itself. Others use

contracted from her mother s milk. Because her mother was raped and tortured during the Peruvian
Civil War with Fausta in her womb, the mother s milk is contaminated with the disease, according to
the local people. This condition causes symptoms such as rarely leaving one s home by will, avoiding
men, rarely speaking, and walking close to the walls of houses for fear of having one s soul stolen. In
the film, Fausta undergoes a journey to empower herself to cure this disease and create a voice for
herself. Through the use of central recurring symbols, Fausta s actions, and the interactions of the
people around her, the film suggests that historical trauma, if left unchecked, can negatively influence
the person with trauma, the people around them, and even generations to come.
