1.
2. What is the role of podcasting, online video, slidecasting and
slidesharing in libraries and information organisations?
Multiple benefits and uses, including:
Information Literacy Instruction
Connection and Accessibility
Convenience and Permanence
Appeals to a larger range of learning styles
Easy to use and affordable
Promotes real learning while saving librarians’ time
3. Podcasting
Podcasts are currently used in numerous ways
to enhance services to users, including:
Connecting users to talks and lectures at these
organisations – especially helpful for those unable to
attend
Providing a permanent way to preserve these talks in
a low-cost, convenient, and easy to use manner
Providing a fixed reference point for users when
accessing past talks
4. Slidecasting and
Slidesharing
Role: Examples:
Information Literacy How to use the catalogue
Instruction – helps give
How to send an email
context to what is being
discussed. How to use a database
Promotion of library Slideshow versions of
programs, services, activ tutorials, photographs of
ities, etc. library events, etc.
5. Online Video and
Vodcasting
Used for similar purposes:
Instruction
Recordings of important events – guest
speakers, story hour, etc.
Video tours of the library
6. Do I see these as enhancements to the existing
work, or services in their own right?
Both, but primarily as an enhancement to existing
work, because:
There is a connection to the work already being done
There is a connection to the goals of the library or
organisation, especially when it comes to providing
equal access to information for all users.
