The Motif of Ernest Hemingway´s A Farewell to Arms
The world contains many recurring events that remind humans of morals or things that are important.
In the novel A Farewell to Arms many events come again and again. Usually, these events that repeat
or come again have a deeper message inscribed in the text. This is not unlike whereas the novel The
Great Gatsby has weather that unfailingly matches up with the tone and mood of the text. The author
Ernest Hemingway has created A Farewell to Arms with a motif that is very precise. The motif of rain
and nature in Hemingway s novel divulges that there are things that a human beings cannot control;
making them recognize what they lack and how life can bring sadness.
The constant appearance of rain allows for sadness to be foreshadowed; ... Show more content on

The rain which is death the leaves which represent life, fell and rotted. Rain is a spontaneous thing and
is not scheduled, planned and is not in our power. Nature has a mind of its own and for humans or the
people in the war to have that power are supernatural which one cannot have that kind of power. Also,
humans are not capable of controlling life itself. If that were to happen in this world, there would be
chaos in power and no one would be able to die peacefully and obtain that beauty of dying a heroic
death. Life cannot be controlled and some people see death as a beauty for it takes humanity to God.
But in life, there are many things that have been with us but when we realize that it is gone, we are
burdened with our own sadness.
Ronald Oliver, a director said that Women don t know what they want. Men never know what they
have. The rain in the novel alters the characters mind to remind them of what they do not have. The
rain brings this quote into thought about what Henry sees and feels. You knew it rained down that
rained...my sweet love Catherine down might rain... (Hemingway, 197). When he says this, he s
looking at the rain and wishes that he could be in her arms and that he too could hold her one more
time in his arms. He sees the rain and sees his pains and wishes deeply that he

Memory Lane Short Story
Memory Lane
Fictional Narrative
Mason was very outgoing. He had brown hair and blue eyes. He always wanted to go and explore. He
always loved his family, especially his brother Collin who was the complete opposite of him. Colin
was a redhead with brown eyes.
One day, specifically September 23, 2015, Mason was just driving around looking for a way to pass
time. He drove around Pennsylvania thriving for something to do in his spare time
On his way, he noticed a sign that lead into a cave that looked suspicious and the sign said, Memory
Lane. Even though the cave looked dangerous and suspicious, Mason still decided to go into the
suspicious looking cave and take a look around. Once he entered the cave about fifteen feet in, the
walls started to glow and light up with many colors and he thought, What is going on here? As Mason
looked at the walls, he saw himself as a baby. It seemed as if the cave was a theatre. Before he knew
it, the walls were already showing himself as a teenager that was thirteen years old. Mason kept
watching his memories on the walls play his life before his eyes. Mason was so mesmerized that he
didn t even realize the cave was filling up with water.
He had reached the point where he was seeing himself in the cave watching the memories. Soon, as he
was only 24 years old, the walls showed memories that were from when he seemed to be thirty. After
realizing that the memories he was seeing were memories he didn t experience yet, he thought,

My Resilience
I did not have a normal childhood. I experienced a death of a parent, the other being an alcoholic,
lived through abuse, and lived in foster care. It is no wonder I battle with a mental illness, however, I
do not let the disorder run my life. It has been over 6 years since my last hospitalization. I strongly
feel the factors that have contributed to my resilience consist of self determination, a strong support
system, proper coping mechanisms and therapy. Resilience according to the Center on the Developing
Child at Harvard University, is the ability to adapt to a situation that may alter an individual s lifestyle
in a positive way, without being consumed by the negative outcomes (National Scientific Council on
Developing Child, 2015).

Cultural Genocide Definition
Cultural Genocide
What is cultural genocide? Is it the destruction of a race, or the destruction of their history and
religion. But to discuss this first we need to know what the concept of what Cultural Genocide is, it
was made by a Jewish Polish lawyer named Raphael Lawkins, as a component of genocide. One
theory is that he made the definition of cultural genocide as: the systematic destruction of racial,
political, or cultural group . But the reason why it s, in theory, is because he made the word in
reference of the United Nations Bill of Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People when he was
working on it. Although because the word was scrapped and removed in the final draft and replaced
with the word genocide, it ended with the precise definition of cultural genocide unclear and vague.
Because of this, the word Ethnocide is used by Ethnologists instead of cultural genocide. But
regardless this word has become so powerful and useful when relating it to the horrible historic events
like the Nazis, vilifying and destroying Jewish culture, and Genghis Khan destroying the Baghdad
house of wisdom, with the residential schools in Canada, that was meant to Kill the Indian in the child
.
It s a well known fact, that Nazi Germany put the exact same effort into destroying Jewish culture as
they did into fighting world war two. Inside the literary masterpiece Anne Frank The Diary Of A
Young girl the start of the book showed how they were limiting and destroying Jewish culture with
laws and jurisdictions. In the book, anne stated that: Jews were required to do their shopping between
3 and 5 P.M.; Jews were required to frequent only Jewish owned barbershops and beauty parlors... .
Another good example is the night of broken glass, In terms, the night of broken glass was a response
to the death of Ernst vom Rath who was killed by Herschel Grynszpan a Jewish student. So in two
days, 1000 synagogues were burned, 7,500 Jewish businesses destroyed, with 91 Jews killed and
30,000 arrested. In the famous book The Book Thief , It did an excellent job of portraying the
horrifying events of the Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass) but it also bring another piece of
cultural genocide into the spotlight, The

Lizzie Wade Analysis
The main take home message I took from the articles was that genomes hold a part of a way to show
what ethnic group an individual may be associated with. In the article by Lizzie Wade, she described
how it is understandable how someone of German descent has a different genetic variation than
someone from Japan. Wade goes on and mentions that even some ethnic groups may have many
genetic variations within its own. Studying only one ethnic group would not help with determining
how much an individual belongs to a certain ethnic group. That is why researchers take all genetic
variations in account when for example trying to explain the risk of disease or reactions to different
kinds of medications an individual might acquire. The quote by

When one reads the Edwin Smith Papyrus, it is very apparent that it was written during a war in order
to treat war injuries. Page 3. 1. AUTHOURSHIP There has been much debate as to who the author
was. A major part of the papyrus was written by one scribe, with only a small section being written by
another. Some attribute the text to Imhotep, an architect, high pries and physician of the Old Kingdom
(3000 2500BCE). Imhotep was a famous magician but medicine was the mistress he most zealously
wooed. (Hurry 1926:23). The highest office that he held during his lifetime, was that of vizier to the
Pharoah and that title must have held him in high regards with his patients. He moved in the highest of
social circles and rendered fine service the bodies and spirits of this he treated. It has even been said
that he, Imhotep, rather than Hippocrates, is the true father of medicine.

disease causing demons, it also contains evidence of empirical practice and observation. Some

Gender Roles In The Canterbury Tales By Geoffrey Chaucer
Geoffrey Chaucer was an English poet, born in 1342 into well to do merchant family. He got some of
his education in Greek and Latin. He was a courtier, soldier, diplomat, administrator, knight of the
Shire and a poet. He is the most musical, stylistically versatile poet but his language is different from
the language we use today. The most famous work of the Chaucer is The Canterbury Tales . It is a
descriptive poem rather a narrative. This poem is about the description of 30 people: rich and poor,
secular and religious, good and bad. Each tells 2 stories on their way to Canterbury, to pass their time.

scientific curiosity, contain a certain kind of gas, or a maintain a vacuum(Sam Adam). For Esther, the
bell jar symbolized madness. When gripped by insanity, she feels as if she is inside an airless jar that
distorts her perspective on a world and prevents her from connecting with the people around her

AN EMPIRICALANALYSIS OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF

ABSTRACT
This study attempted to estimate the environmental impact of Foreign Direct Investment in the mining
sector in Nigeria. It is argued that only those countries that have reached a certain income level can
absorb new technologies and benefit from technology diffusion, and thus reap the extra advantages
that FDI can offer. The mining industry in Nigeria is dominated by oil. Indeed, Nigeria is the largest
producer of this commodity in Africa and sixth largest producers in the world. This research study
makes use of secondary data. The variables used are the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), gross
domestic product (GDP), output of mining industry and per capital flight (KF). This study covers a
period of 31 years that spans between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
FDI within mining sector can therefore have significant impacts, positive, as well as negative. Positive
impacts can include increased employment, better health care, improved infrastructure and schooling.
On the negative side there may be disruption of traditional cultures, environmental degradation, basic
commodity price increases, population displacement, land use conflicts and loss of livelihood
(Danielson and Lagos, 2001).
This is particularly true for the environment. Preliminary evidence suggests that under appropriate
framework conditions, foreign investments in mining frequently have higher environmental
performance compared to domestic operations, due to new technologies and practices they bring with
them. On the other hand, when these framework conditions, such as effective environmental
regulation and transparent public governance, are not in place, there is a risk that serious
environmental and social damage can occur.
The mining industry has in recent years turned its attention to the environmental impacts of its
activities, and in particular is addressing the issue through the Global Mining Initiative
(www.globalmining.com) and the Mining, Minerals and Sustainable Development Project (MMSD)
which is addressing the issue of the contribution of the mining sector to sustainable development

Democracies and Success in War Essay
Democracies and Success in War
Introduction
Democratic governments have spread quickly around the world since the end of the Cold War and fall
of the Soviet Union. Democracy has become one of the most desired regime types amongst states and
is contributed to fostering wealth, stability, and even peace. Dan Reiter and Allan Stam argue that
democracies are the most successful in war or military combat. In their book, Democracies at War,
Stam and Reiter argue that after observing conflicts since the 1800 s, democratic governments tend to
be more selective in choosing conflicts to participate in and democracies also have a propensity to win
more often than authoritarian regimes.
The purpose of this paper is to present a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The case of Israel was chosen for two reasons. First, Stam and Reiter mention Israel in their book and
argue that this state is a prime example of how democracies are better equipped, trained, motivated,
and successful in war. Michael Desch questions this claim by Stam and Reiter over Israel, especially
the argument that they fight more adequately and the soldiers of democracies are better trained. These
conflicting commits over Israel lays the foundation of an adequate need for a case study to see if Israel
is, as Stam and Reiter claims, more successful at war because they are a democracy, or Desch s
counter argument that Israel fought so well because they were fighting for survival, not because of
their regime. The second reason why Israel has been chosen as the case study for this paper is because
they have arguably never lost a war since independence and seem to improve in conflict through the
years.
The greatest contribution I hope to make in this paper is a deeper understanding of how democracies
choose and fight wars. Due to time constraints, this paper is only addressing one case study that deals
with two wars. As in any case study the results are limited to that particular case. However, the
research creates more in depth examination over the arguments by Stam and Reiter and, in a more
general sense, attempts to analyze propositions made by democratic theorist.

Discussion of the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism
Q2. Outline and discuss the four noble truths: is the Buddhist view of existence optimistic or
pessimistic?
The question of the Buddhist view of existence being optimistic or pessimistic is one which is many
have an opinion on. It could be said that the four noble truths provide the views of the Buddha in the
way that life is led and more importantly, should be led. Certainly, the end goal is clearly optimistic,
the attainment of spiritual enlightenment, or nirvana. However, the Buddhist view of life as we lead it
is often deemed pessimistic as it is so concerned with suffering. As there is more than one school of
thought to, is the Buddhist view of existence of optimistic or pessimistic? our understanding of these
truths is crucial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pleasure, prosperity, success and fame are short term gains. This is what the Buddha taught as the
Second Noble Truth of the Cause of Suffering Desire (Tanha). Again these could be considered a very
pessimistic view of the human condition. Nothing has any permanent meaning, life s hard and then we
die.
Ignorance of the Buddha s teachings, might attribute all happiness and suffering to some external
cause, believing that happiness and suffering come from the environment, or from the gods, and that
everything that happens originates in some source outside of one s control. If one believes this, then it
is extremely hard, if not impossible, to envisage eliminating suffering and its causes which is in itself
an extremely pessimistic point of view. On the other hand, when a person accepts responsibility that
experience of suffering is a product of what the self has done, that is, a result of personal karma,
eliminating suffering becomes a real possibility. Buddhism believes that once awareness of suffering
takes place, one can begin to remove the causes of suffering. This is the understanding of karma.
Accepting responsibility for our own behaviour is an essential part of being able to change it, and a
real source of optimism. The third noble truth is the cessation of suffering. Our cessation of suffering
is something that we cannot depend on anyone else to help us with, because it is such a personal thing.
The truth of universal origination means that if our

This is only two battles in the whole Civil War yet countless lives were lost in each one. These battles

battles Chancelorsville and Gettysburg.
The Battle of Chancelorsville In the Battle of Chancelorsville, Hooker was the Union general and Lee
was the Confederate general. Hooker had 130,000 men and Lee had 60,000 men. Hooker had more
men and supplies and Lee was outnumbered. Before the battle Hooker said, May God have mercy on

Lee went after Sedgwick.
On May 4, 1863 Lee and Sedgwick met at the Battle of the Salem Church. The battle was indecisive.
That night both Hooker and Sedgwick retreated over the Rappahannock. The Union lost 16,800 men
and the Confederates lost 13,000 men. It is considered one of Lee s finest battles. Jackson s arm had to
be amputated from the injury he got. Gangrene set in and he died on May 10, 1863. Even though the
Confederates had won the battle of Chancelorsville it was at high costs.
The Battle of Gettysburg The Battle of Gettysburg happened after Lee won Chancelorsville. Lee went
to Pennsylvania hoping to capture a northern city and re supply his men. Lee also hoped to draw the
Union men from the Mississippi River. On July 1, 1863 Lee sent Confederate General Harry Heth to
Gettysburg to get shoes for his troops. Union General John Buford s force was dug in at Seminary
Ridge in Gettysburg. Heth came in contact with Buford s scouts. The Confederates went up an
unfinished railroad and arrived outside of town at 8:00A.M. The Confederates line was at Cemetery
Ridge. After two hours of fighting Reynold s Union force arrived on the scene. Reynold was killed by
a Confederate sharpshooter almost as soon as he entered the battle field so Abner Doubleday took his

A Restaurant At A Glance Essay
Dining at a Glance When it comes to dining in at a restaurant we all want the best service that we can
get. When I think of the best service I think about the cleanliness, nice waitresses, good food, and
affordable prices. There are so many different options when a family thinks about going out to eat,
especially if they have small children. It s often hard to go to a nice dine in restaurant because
sometimes it s hard to find something on the menu for everyone in the family. I have experienced
many things at two completely different restaurants. I can say Demos is better than Logan s because
the food and service is much better. Cleanliness is especially important for women; no one wants to go
into a restroom that has nasty, unsanitary toilets. Having a nice waitress is a big impact on a family s
dining experience. If you have a rude waitress, it ruins the whole meal. If you have a family,
affordable prices are convenient because you don t have to worry about leaving the restaurant broke!
Lastly, good food, it makes or breaks your dining experience. This is mainly good for women seeking
delicious and cheap meals for their families. Demos is located in Murfreesboro which is known to be a
very populated town. With that being said, sometimes there is a 5 10 minute wait on a table. As long
as I ve been going there to eat it has never been over ten minutes. It s not really a fancy place to eat its
more casual. When you walk in you hear classical music it s very peaceful

Comparing Roosevelt s Next, And The New Nationalism
I argue that when it comes to developing our capabilities, Roosevelt s argument that the main purpose
for freedom is to benefit the community is the most viable because it helps maintain democratic
processes, while also providing a higher quality of life for all. While Sen and Roosevelt are similar
because they both believe that a society can only develop if the people are given equal opportunity to
develop their capabilities, they differ when it comes to the purpose of fulfilling those capabilities. In
this essay, I will outline Sen s argument as to why development should be viewed in terms of
maximizing our freedoms to achieve our desired lives, in contrast to Roosevelt s argument. Then, I
will advance my own argument as to why Roosevelt s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, Sen s argument seems appealing because we are all able to keep the fruits of our labor, and
decide what kind of life we want to live. This fits in line with man s natural tendencies toward
selfishness, and it seems that it would be difficult to develop one s capabilities simply for the case of
the commonwealth, and not for oneself. As naturally self interested beings, we would always want to
develop all of our capabilities so that we may live the lives we have reason to desire. However, only
using our freedom for self interested motives leads to numerous issues. For example, one of the most
important aspects of a democracy is exercising one s right to vote; however, if one is only concerned
with oneself, they will vote in a way that only them, and perhaps other members of one s social class,
will benefit the most. Thus, people could end up voting for a leader who plans to make them, and
others like them, wealthier by keeping wealth within a small percentage of the population. Not only
does this hinder development as Sen sees it, but it also has many negative implications for a society;
for example, it may lead to higher levels of poverty, crime, unrest, dissatisfaction, and eventually lead
to civil tension (all of which are unfreedoms). Similarly, some members of the community may have
no interest in politics, or may think they do not pertain

Budget Cuts In Schools
Seeming insignificant and being seen as an unreliable and an inconsistent source of money, classes
such as art, poetry, or drama get cut. For these classes of which have been an inspiration to many
artists to be let go, the school must undergo budget cuts. Negatively affecting the learning
environment, budget cuts have been public enemy number one in schools worldwide. Due to these
cuts teachers get laid off and those students who were in that class go on to other classes, essentially,
doubling the original class size. However, what do we do about those who seem to enjoy the arts
provided by their school? Let alone, those who have become inspired and envision becoming world
renown someday? Decreasing desires and disregardment of the importance

Pros And Cons Of The Good Samaritan Law
Quality of patient care can be affected in various ways, but specifically discussed here is how quality
of patient care is affected via the Good Samaritan law. In Nelson s (2017) article, an off duty RN did
not hesitate to help a person thrown from their car in an accident. The RN did what she could during
the emergency to make the person as comfortable as she could before he died on the scene. The RN
speaks about most people s natural inclination to stop and help if they could in other emergency

Peer Review And Writing Style Essay
When Research, Peer Review and Writing Style Meet Bringing new evidence based practice to the

Evaluation of Play War Horse Essay
An evaluation of the play War Horse , showing your understanding of the medium and elements used
and your response.
On Monday the 21st of September I went to see the play War Horse at the New London Theatre. The
play was directed by Marianne Elliot and Tom Morris and is written about the novel War Horse by
Michael Morpurgo. The play is about a horse, Joey. He is sold to the English cavalry and is shipped
off to France were we serves in WW1. His owner, Albert desperate not to lose Joey, enlists in the army
despite the fact that he is under aged. Albert embarks on a treacherous journey on a quest to find Joey.
The play is based upon the horse s perspectives and views. War Horse is trying to emphasis the strong
brutality of war, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A stylised moment was when Joey met the tank during the war scene; this moment was very intense as
Joey was faced with a huge big tank that he cannot compete against. It shows the old technology in
this case the horse meeting the new technology the tank. As Joey meets the tank he screams and
gallops fast past the tank, while doing so Joey breaths rapidly. This is shown when the actors
controlling the horse move the stomach inwards and out. There is a use of strobe lighting effects into
the audience to make them feel Joey s fear and panic that he is going through. In addition there is loud
classical music playing in the background to intensify the emotions that the horse is going through.
When Joey is first faced with the tank he runs, this is shown by the clever use of the revolve. The use
of juxtapositioning occurs here, as it shows the old warfare facing the new warfare.
The death of Major Nicholls is also a much stylised moment as it involves physicalisation.
With great timing other actors moves Major Nicholls s body to perform a summersault as he falls to
his death. Another reason why this moment is a symbolic moment in the play is because as he falls to
his death he breaks his promise with Albert. As Albert got to say his last goodbyes to Joey, Major
Nicholls promised Albert that Joey will be in good hands, and that he will take care of him.
Another stylised moment is when the ship with the wounded soldiers leaves France to head back to
England, and the

Question 3: Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada The Truth and Reconciliation
Commission of Canada was established under the assumption that the Indian Residential Schools were
an assimilation attempt on the First Nation population. This commission led to the compensation of

With this knowledge, it is clear why there was no attempt to find the facts about the state s

assume that conflict arose from an authoritarian government and that a democratic one would not

Pre-Litigation Research Paper
Pre Litigation: What Happens Before Filing a Lawsuit?
Going to court is usually the last step in a long process of trying to settle a dispute. There are usually
several steps taken before a lawsuit is even filed with the courts. These steps help both parties prepare
for the lawsuit. It also opens up opportunities to settle the dispute without the need to go to court.
Notice
When one party has a complaint or dispute with another party, the first step in the process is formal
notification. This often comes in the form of a notice letter sent by the injured party s attorney to the
other party, his attorney, and his insurance company. This notice outlines what the dispute is about. It
may also request information on insurance coverage, policy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The demand can take several forms. It may be a claim that goes to the other party s insurance
company. It may be a letter going straight to the other party demanding compensation for the injury.
The demand may be a simple letter or it may be a multi page document with copies of the information
gathered during the investigation.
Trying to Settle
The formal demand usually brings an opportunity to settle the case before filing suit. In many cases,
these settlement negotiations are informal, involving discussions between the attorneys, insurance
representatives, and clients. It may be a time when one party makes a settlement offer. Counteroffers
and settlement rejections can also happen.
More formal dispute resolution solutions are also available, including mediation. With mediation, a
neutral third party works with the injured party and the defendant to reach a negotiated settlement.
If a case cannot be settled, the next step is to file a formal lawsuit.

Angry Black White Boy
In Adam Mansbach s Angry Black White Boy (ABWB), the protagonist, Macon Detornay, is a white
male who is obsessed with black culture and angry with white Americans. Macon moved to New York
City for college and began a crime spree of robbing white people who rode in his taxicab. The city of
New York went on a search for the black man who was supposedly robbing these people. Eventually,
Macon s true skin color is revealed and he decides to use his newfound fame to discuss the evils of
white people. Macon then founded the Race Traitor Project. This idea was for guilty white people and
liberals to be a part of what he called a Day of Apology, in which white people were to apologize for
the hundreds of years of oppression they put minorities through. The Day of Apology ended up
causing a major riot, which led Macon to decide how committed he was to the Race Traitor Project.
Adam Mansbach used ABWB as a means to shed light on institutional racism and what can be done to
end it.
Institutional racism is a concept that many people hear about today, but no one wants to really discuss.
Avram Bornstein s Institutional Racism argues that there needs to be a distinction between the racial
bias and institutional racism due to the recent law enforcement encounters in New York. According to
Bernstein, police motivation is not necessarily biased by numbers, but careerist through stopping and
arresting in parts of town with high crime. These high records of arrests and stops is seen

What happens when the mistake is discovered after a man has been executed for a crime he did not

A. Economics
1. The problem is, it costs more to execute an inmate than life imprisonment. For example, In Texas, a
death penalty case costs taxpayers an average of $2.3 million, about three times the cost of
imprisoning someone in a single cell at the highest security level for 40 years. If the 515 executions
hadn t occurred, and these offenders were sentenced life imprisonment without the option of parole,
Texas tax payers could ve saved approximately $790 million.
2. New Jersey, for example, laid off more than 500 police officers in 1991. At the same time, it was
implementing a death penalty which would cost an estimated $16 million per year, more than enough
to hire the same number of officers at a salary of $30,000 per year.
3. In Texas, the early release of prisoners has meant that inmates are serving only 20 percent of their
sentences and re arrests are common. On the other hand, Texas spent an estimated $183.2 million in
just six years on the death penalty. The money used for the death penalty can easily be used to keep

Assignment: Midterm Assignment, Management 3990
While the intention was that the People s Insurance Company of Canada (PICC) would have an
organic organizational structure, this intention was at least partially offset by the close integration of
the Insurance company with the parent People s Bank. The result was an entity in which the
superficially organic, generally non hierarchical Insurance organization has been overridden by the
highly hierarchical and mechanistic bank organization. The PICC s actual structure has both
mechanistic and organic aspects. With regard to work specialization, it is generally narrow and
mechanistic with the VP for HR, Mary Thorne, fighting an ongoing battle with the Bank on the
grounds that PICC needed staff with specialized skills in the insurance industry. With respect to chain
of command, while the structure of PICC was intended to be open, non hierarchical and organic, it is
clear that it is generally mechanistic in its most important aspects. For example, while there may be an
open office environment in general, the senior team members have private offices. Similarly, while the
the emphasis of PICC is towards self managing teams, many approvals such as new purchases had to
be signed off by multiple layers of the bank s management. Thus, the chain of command is very rigid
in terms of its senior decision makers. In terms of centralization of decision making, it appears that

What Is Human Nature In The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
Readers connections to The Lottery by Shirley Jackson establish that human nature in the modern era
is flawed; eventually, resulting in fallacious and faulty actions. Faulty actions and aspects of human
nature are related to outdated traditions and Old Man Warner. The theory of evolutionary psychology
applies to the situation and is essential to explaining some of the reasons for this occurrence.
Human nature has developed over the timeline of our existence and a theory of explaining human
nature is through evo psych. This theory explains mental and psychological traits that humans have

Human nature can be seen as a culmination of every survival mechanism obtained through natural
selection. They can be added on but never deleted, the mechanisms are carried in our genetic
instructions. Many survival mechanisms become obsolete and are no longer needed to survive in the
world like wisdom teeth which many humans remove because of their negative effects. The difference
between wisdom teeth, a biological mechanism, and behavioral patterns is that behavioral patterns are
exceptionally difficult to notice. Old Man Warner is representative of a survival mechanism which no
longer serves a purpose. Old Man Warner being an Old Man likely doesn t serve a purpose in the
community other than to perpetuate an outdated tradition: a large portion of his dialogue also makes
little sense further insinuating this notion. The lottery is a portrayal of the faulty actions and events
that take place due to outdated survival mechanisms: they do not make sense, hurt society and take

Government Censorship and Control in Brave New World
Imagine a society in which its citizens have forfeited all personal liberties for government protection
and stability; Aldous Huxley s Brave New World, explores a civilization in which this hypothetical has
become reality. The inevitable trade off of citizens freedoms for government protection traditionally
follows periods of war and terror. The voluntary degradation of the citizens rights begins with small,
benign steps to full, totalitarian control. Major methods for government control and censorship are
political, religious, economic, and moral avenues. Huxley s Brave New World provides a prophetic
glimpse of government censorship and control through technology; the citizens of the World State

The World State forbids the citizens from experiencing any negative emotion, for fear of losing
control. Soma, Latin for sleep, renders its users to a coma like blissful state, which Congdon describes,
borrowing the statement from Huxley himself, that soma allows the citizens to, periodically escape
from the pressure of routine and worldly cares (Congdon). Citizens are conditioned to use the drug at
the slightest challenge to the cultural norms, preventing any thoughts of rebellion or contempt against
the government.
Moreover, the World State explicitly harvests this religious emotion through requiring the citizens to
prescribe to their own self made religion, Fordism. As practitioners of Fordism, the citizens of the
World State revere real world Henry Ford as their savior. Huxley utilizes satirical comparisons
between Christianity and Fordism to illuminate that today s government utilizes Christianity in a
similar way, to quell the masses. Huxley uses obvious parodies such as switching Our Lord for Our
Ford and cutting the tops off all crosses so they resemble T s, a reference to Ford s Model T car, to
bring the truth to light without explicitly stating the fact. The followers of Ford also attend regular
Solidarity Services. These services are comprised of twelve individuals sitting around a table while
they sing hymns and ingest soma until the climax of an

having to deal with a major foreclosure crisis. According to studies by the Mortgage Bankers

In the event that the profits from the sold home cannot cover the mortgagee s payments, the lender
may file a deficiency judgment against them. More than 6 in 10 homeowners delinquent in their
mortgage payments are not aware of services that mortgage lenders can offer to individuals having
trouble with their mortgage (Freddie Mac), such as bankruptcy, appeals, a motion, or an exemption
from the creditor. When a deficiency judgment is filed against a debtor, the individual should seek the
assistance of an attorney as soon as possible. Deficiency judgments are rare, however, because a
majority of lenders feel that if a borrower is not able to make their payments initially, there is no
reason to spend their time and money on further legal action. With the occurring realization that
foreclosure is a losing proposition for both the lender and the borrower, negotiating a temporary delay
in payments may benefit both parties. Contrary to the belief that contacting a lender for help is
embarrassing, useless, and will cause the home to be lost more quickly (Freddie Mac), lenders are
usually receptive to the idea of reconstructing a payment plan. According to Craig Focardi, research

The Argument For The Natural World
According to Aquinas arguments, the natural world includes everything that is in existence. This
includes ideologies such as motion, God, gravity, solar radiation, and our physical environment as
whole. The natural world is not only made up of things that our senses can detect, such as touch and
smell, but is also includes things such as God and gravity which are unattainable through the senses.
According to Immanuel Kant, the sensible world includes anything that can become known to
humans. The sensible world includes things such as time and space. By reviewing the definition of the
sensible world, the plausibility of the argument for the natural world is effected positively. Due to the
fact that the natural world consists of things that the human senses can detect, along with anything that
is within the world, this argument goes hand in hand with the ideology of the sensible world. In
correlation with Aquinas s third argument, something cannot exist being necessary and noneternal
because in order for a being to be necessary it must be eternal. This is due to the fact that in Aquinas
argument, a necessary being is eternal because nothing else brings it into existence. In order to better
understand an example of an object that would exists at some point in each possible world, but not at
all times within the actual world, it is crucial to understand the definition of each term. Elliot Sober
defines the actual world as, the totality of things that have existed, now

Cultural Stereotypes In Australia

express some of the cultural stereotypes and misunderstanding they have experienced. Regarding this

Due to this, she also experiences many cultural stereotypes and misunderstandings. As she lives in the
USA, being a western country, she experiences a lot more cultural stereotypes and misunderstandings
relating to her Indian culture than my first interviewee living in India does. These cultural stereotypes
can especially make intercultural communication between her and someone from Australia
particularly difficult as some Australians, like people my second interviewee communicates with from
the USA, are quite racist and often feel uncomfortable around someone who is Islamic. These cultural
stereotypes affect intercultural communication between Australia and India as it causes
misunderstandings between the two cultures and often causes harsh feelings between cultures.
However, my second interviewee stated she finds it quite easy to communicate with people from
different cultures on social media, however, she does see cultural stereotypes on Facebook and twitter.
Moreover, many people find it particularly easy to communicate with anyone on social media rather
than face to face. When communicating with someone from another culture on social media, one often
does not take their culture into perspective but rather communicates with them as they would to
someone of their immediate culture. Evidently, this is because one does not see the person they are
speaking to online and rather creates their own image of the person they are communicating with.
However, as my Indian interviewees stated, they see a lot of cultural stereotypes on Facebook and
twitter. Additionally, similar to cyberbullies, people find it easy to make stereotypical or rude
comments about other cultures online, rather than to a person in the real world. This could be due to
their online profile being anonymous, and having more confidence to speak their opinions online

Analyzing Langston Hughes The Weary Blues
Jeremy Thomas
Mrs. Rothstein
English 9H: Period 3
21 May 2015
Research Paper on the poem The Weary Blues by Langston Hughes
Langston Hughes published The Weary Blues in 1926 when he was twenty four, and the poem depicts
his life in his own unique perspective as a struggling black man. ( Langston Hughes 2 of 3). In the
poem Hughes creates a speaker who is spending a night out and listens to a black man singing the
blues. In one stanza, he illustrates a scene in which the African American singer expresses pride in his
heritage, strength, soul, and the depth to which his emotions and spirituality reach. The imagery in the
poem paints a very gloomy and melancholy atmosphere. Even rhyme plays an important role because
it gave consistency and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of imagery is very strong throughout this poem. Words like mellow, pale, drowsy,
melancholy, and dull, suggest to the reader that the atmosphere surrounding the speaker is dark and
gloomy. Even lights in the street is not sufficient to brighten the surroundings, being that the only
source of light stated is the pale dull pallor of an old gas light. The haziness of this light with darkness
of the night, evokes a sense of sluggishness in the atmosphere. The singer speaks of his struggles and
opinions, and it is reflected in the third stanza: With his ebony hands on each ivory key (Hughes line
9). In the singer s era, the impression of black and white coming together to form harmony would be
unlikely, but he has reached this goal by creating the melodic tune that comes out of the piano. Since
he was in a time where class distinctions with African Americans were quite rigid, and he was a
busboy, struggling with his emotions, his past incidents inspired and motivated him ( Langston
Hughes 1 of 3). Hence, with deep imagery during the course of the poem, Hughes epitomizes his
struggles and differences within his society by comparing it with a similar man s struggling situation
of life using strong imagery. It is apparent that the woe conveyed through his writing shows his
struggles, and displeased attitude towards society and

Medecins Frontieres
Everyone deserves medical help whether they live in an emerging nation or in the heart of New York
City. This is what Bernard Kouchner thought when he created Medecins Sans Frontieres, or Doctors
Without Borders. Medecins Sans Frontieres goes to third world countries and helps deliver free
medical aid to those in need. The amount of helpless people in third world countries shows that
without the aid of Medecins Sans Frontieres citizens would be without the medical assistance that they
deserve. The acts of Medecins Sans Frontieres results in the better being of others. This is
demonstrated through their tireless efforts, resulting in less people at risk. This is well presented, as
evident in the events of March 1999. The expulsion of ethnic ... Show more content on

While treating infected people Medecins Sans Frontieres takes readings, which are then sent off to a
microscopy lab for microscopy quality control testing and then tested for anything pertaining to the
medical issue at hand. MSF uses the traditional protocol of reexamining 10% of negative slides and all
positive slides... (Klarkowski). Although this is not the most efficient method for examining illness
this method delivers more data and doing so helps any Medecins Sans Frontieres team determine what
is and isn t working with their treatments. This same approach was used for the mental health services
department since March of 1998 in Bosnia. Group interventions were prefered because of the
secondary benefits of sharing and mutual support. MEdecins Sans Frontiers found that communities
were generally supportive of each other. (Jong). While nearly 300 miles apart the same data was
collected from differing victims. This proves how the organization improves the world through
research and development by showing how this organization collects and quality control checks data
using a less progressive method as to ensure more active and dependable data. This method of testing
multiple times is used everywhere but in a more advanced way with Medecins Sans Frontieres. As
shown when a Medecins Sans Frontieres team stationed in Bosnia discovered that victims are more
likely to talk in a group than alone. This same finding was also evident, found around the same time in
Kosovo. (Located by Serbia) The Medecins Sans Frontieres teams professed this information and as a
result a counselling element was added to all mobile clinics throughout Medecins Sans

Greek Mythology Influence On Romeo And Juliet
Greek mythology consists of all the cultural stories (legends and myths) that were told and passed on
by the people of ancient Greece ( Greek Mythology 2017).
These myths had many morals and everyday lessons that could be learned ( Greek Mythology 2017).
These stories have ultimately become the basis of Greek culture as well as religion ( Greek Mythology
2017).
These myths were first developed in a visual form, because only the elders knew how to read and
write, they passed these stories down to the next generation in an oral form ( Greek Mythology 2017).
Roman mythology is the compilation of legendary stories that played a major role in the formation of
religion in Rome (Roman Mythology 2017).
The Roman gods, goddesses, pagans, and important individuals were featured in these stories ( Roman
Mythology 2017). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

astrology (Martin). The use of mythology and astrology is used to describe Romeo and Juliet as star
crossed lovers , or people that have a forbidden love (Martin). The factors that lead to this are mainly:
family, society, religion, etc (Martin).

Titanic Sinning

The Sinking of the Greatest
My paper is about the Titanic and why it is an important event in history. The Titanic was an awfully
big ship. It was about 883 feet long, and weighed 52,310 tons which is huge, the largest ship ever
actually. It was designed by Thomas Andrews, but built by Harland and Wolff, which was a ship
building company. It was built in Belfast, United Kingdom. They started building the ship on March
31, 1909 and launched the final ship project on May 31, 1911. Which I honestly think they finished it
really fast. The Titanic when full could carry 2,435 passengers, and a crew of approximately 900.
Which brought her capacity to more than 3,300 plus people. With all those 3,300 plus ... Show more

They probably just did it for all the talk and all the publicity. In the end publicity is for sure what they
got, more than expected. They spent a total of $7,500,000 ($174 million in today s money) to build the
ship that is now at the bottom of the ocean, along with tons of dead souls. Because of careless
mistakes from dumb people. There were too many mistakes made that caused the disaster. However
the Titanic could have been saved had just a few of these events not happened. If people would listen
to warnings and suggestions, than yes this tragedy could have been avoided. If the caption had been
listening to the six warnings that he was given then the ship have been able to steer away from the
iceberg. It doesn t take much effort to steer the ship away from the iceberg. Someone actually took the
time to contact the ship SIX TIMES, the least you could do is move the ship a little bit to get away
from the iceberg. Even if they had slowed down because they were going too fast, they would have
seen the iceberg sooner, and would have been able to think about what to do. That would have given
them more time to avoid

Psychodynamic Personality Profile of Johnny Depp Essay
Personality, like most core Psychology subjects, is difficult to define. Personality is essentially the
science of describing and understanding people. No two people are the same; even identical twins will
tell you that they are very different to their identical counterpart. There are some who are anxious and
there are those who are risk takers. There are some who are carefree while there are those who are
highly strung and there are those who are over confident while some are just plain shy. It is this issue
of differences that are fundamental to the study and examination of personality.
Johnny Depp, born June 9th, 1963 in Owensboro, Kentucky self proclaimed barbeque capital of the
world has led an interesting life filled with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research also shows indicates that the Big Five has distinct biological substrates thereby linking trait
perspective with the biological perspective (DeYoung, Quilty Peterson, 2007). However this
convergence of perspectives is actually productive in that all perspectives by themselves have their
disadvantages as well as their advantages. If all perspectives can coincide with one another,
explanations of personality will become so much easier.
The psychoanalytic perspective is the most interesting theory of the analysis of an individual and their
personality. Initially developed by Freud during the latter half of the 1900s, it deals with, among other
things, the irrational and less predictable patterns of behaviour and human thinking, which is what
most other theories of personality often leave out and are criticised for it. In understanding Johnny
Depp, a psychodynamic perspective best accounts for his personality: as a complete theory, it can
explain his behaviour from when he was a child to becoming a famous movie star, integrates other
theories into its analysis, such as Evolutionary and Learning perspectives, thus providing a fairly
reliable and accurate interpretation of his personality.
As a kid, Johnny Depp had a troublesome childhood. His father was continually searching for secure
work in order to support his family, resulting in them moving around a lot, living in motels, shifting
from place to place. This no doubt took a

Similarities Between Han China And Imperial Rome
Imperial Rome and Han China were two of the biggest empires during the Classical period. They
shared many of the same qualities, yet they had little to no contact with one another. Imperial Rome
and Han China were similar because they used ideologies to control their citizens rather than religion,
and they were different because Han China had an extensive educated bureaucracy as opposed to
Rome s authoritarian government based on military power.
Han China and Imperial Rome used ideologies to shape their society. In Han China, Confucianism
was used as a basis to control its bureaucrats and citizens. This ideology, created by Confucius,
encouraged moral and cultural unity. It encouraged respect towards authority, and set guidelines for
how an individual should act towards people above their social class and people below their social
class. Han rulers created one of the first civil service tests, requiring applicants to have an
understanding of Confucianism and other early writings to become a bureaucrat. This resulted in a ...

During this period, China had an extensive educated bureaucracy composed of citizens from any class.
The bureaucrats were educated with principles of Confucianism, and Chinese literature. This was the
governing class. The bureaucrats were respected by members of the lower classes and controlled the
local areas. The emperor ruled through the instructions given to the bureaucracy. Imperial Rome had a
single authoritarian ruler who was in control of the country because of the power of his military. The
tyrant ruled through laws imposed on the citizens. Local governments in the Roman Empire had more
autonomy than its Chinese counterparts. Aristocrats were trusted to control their regions. China ruled
through its bureaucrats enforcing Confucian values while Rome established laws for the country, but

surgical site infection, and it has been designated as an SCIP quality measure. (Philips, 2015)

cutaneous blood flow leads to subcutaneous tissue hypoxia and failure of humoral immune defense
systems to reach target areas to fight infection. (Hart et al., 2011) ii. Hypothermia, defined as a core
body temperature less than 36C, is a relatively common occurrence in the unwarmed surgical patient.
A mild degree of perioperative hypothermia can be associated with significant morbidity and

  • 2. The Motif of Ernest Hemingway´s A Farewell to Arms The world contains many recurring events that remind humans of morals or things that are important. In the novel A Farewell to Arms many events come again and again. Usually, these events that repeat or come again have a deeper message inscribed in the text. This is not unlike whereas the novel The Great Gatsby has weather that unfailingly matches up with the tone and mood of the text. The author Ernest Hemingway has created A Farewell to Arms with a motif that is very precise. The motif of rain and nature in Hemingway s novel divulges that there are things that a human beings cannot control; making them recognize what they lack and how life can bring sadness. Rain is a spontaneous thing and is not scheduled, planned and is not in our power. Nature has a mind of its own and for humans or the people in the war to have that power are supernatural which one cannot have that kind of power. Also, humans are not capable of controlling life itself. If that were to happen in this world, there would be chaos in power and no one would be able to die peacefully and obtain that beauty of dying a heroic death. Life cannot be controlled and some people see death as a beauty for it takes humanity to God. But in life, there are many things that have been with us but when we realize that it is gone, we are burdened with our own sadness. Ronald Oliver, a director said that Women don t know what they want. Men never know what they have. The rain in the novel alters the characters mind to remind them of what they do not have. The rain brings this quote into thought about what Henry sees and feels. You knew it rained down that rained...my sweet love Catherine down might rain... (Hemingway, 197). • 8. Cultural Genocide Definition Cultural Genocide What is cultural genocide? Is it the destruction of a race, or the destruction of their history and religion. But to discuss this first we need to know what the concept of what Cultural Genocide is, it was made by a Jewish Polish lawyer named Raphael Lawkins, as a component of genocide. One theory is that he made the definition of cultural genocide as: the systematic destruction of racial, political, or cultural group . But the reason why it s, in theory, is because he made the word in reference of the United Nations Bill of Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People when he was working on it. Although because the word was scrapped and removed in the final draft and replaced with the word genocide, it ended with the precise definition of cultural genocide unclear and vague. Because of this, the word Ethnocide is used by Ethnologists instead of cultural genocide. But regardless this word has become so powerful and useful when relating it to the horrible historic events like the Nazis, vilifying and destroying Jewish culture, and Genghis Khan destroying the Baghdad house of wisdom, with the residential schools in Canada, that was meant to Kill the Indian in the child . It s a well known fact, that Nazi Germany put the exact same effort into destroying Jewish culture as they did into fighting world war two. Inside the literary masterpiece Anne Frank The Diary Of A Young girl the start of the book showed how they were limiting and destroying Jewish culture with laws and jurisdictions. In the book, anne stated that: Jews were required to do their shopping between 3 and 5 P.M.; Jews were required to frequent only Jewish owned barbershops and beauty parlors... . Another good example is the night of broken glass, In terms, the night of broken glass was a response to the death of Ernst vom Rath who was killed by Herschel Grynszpan a Jewish student. So in two days, 1000 synagogues were burned, 7,500 Jewish businesses destroyed, with 91 Jews killed and 30,000 arrested. In the famous book The Book Thief , It did an excellent job of portraying the horrifying events of the Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass) but it also bring another piece of cultural genocide into the spotlight, The ... In the article by Lizzie Wade, she described how it is understandable how someone of German descent has a different genetic variation than someone from Japan. Wade goes on and mentions that even some ethnic groups may have many genetic variations within its own. Studying only one ethnic group would not help with determining how much an individual belongs to a certain ethnic group. That is why researchers take all genetic variations in account when for example trying to explain the risk of disease or reactions to different kinds of medications an individual might acquire. AUTHOURSHIP There has been much debate as to who the author was. A major part of the papyrus was written by one scribe, with only a small section being written by another. Some attribute the text to Imhotep, an architect, high pries and physician of the Old Kingdom (3000 2500BCE). Imhotep was a famous magician but medicine was the mistress he most zealously wooed. (Hurry 1926:23). The highest office that he held during his lifetime, was that of vizier to the Pharoah and that title must have held him in high regards with his patients. He moved in the highest of social circles and rendered fine service the bodies and spirits of this he treated. It has even been said that he, Imhotep, rather than Hippocrates, is the true father of medicine. 3. THE EBERS PAPYRUS The Ebers Papyrus (c.1550BC) is full of incantations and disgusting applications, which are intended to turn away disease causing demons and it also includes 877 prescriptions. It is argued that only those countries that have reached a certain income level can absorb new technologies and benefit from technology diffusion, and thus reap the extra advantages that FDI can offer. The mining industry in Nigeria is dominated by oil. Indeed, Nigeria is the largest producer of this commodity in Africa and sixth largest producers in the world. Positive impacts can include increased employment, better health care, improved infrastructure and schooling. On the negative side there may be disruption of traditional cultures, environmental degradation, basic commodity price increases, population displacement, land use conflicts and loss of livelihood (Danielson and Lagos, 2001). This is particularly true for the environment. Preliminary evidence suggests that under appropriate framework conditions, foreign investments in mining frequently have higher environmental performance compared to domestic operations, due to new technologies and practices they bring with them. On the other hand, when these framework conditions, such as effective environmental regulation and transparent public governance, are not in place, there is a risk that serious environmental and social damage can occur. The mining industry has in recent years turned its attention to the environmental impacts of its activities, and in particular is addressing the issue through the Global Mining Initiative (www.globalmining.com) and the Mining, Minerals and Sustainable Development Project (MMSD) which is addressing the issue of the contribution of the mining sector to sustainable development ... • 14. Democracies and Success in War Essay Democracies and Success in War Introduction Democratic governments have spread quickly around the world since the end of the Cold War and fall of the Soviet Union. Democracy has become one of the most desired regime types amongst states and is contributed to fostering wealth, stability, and even peace. Dan Reiter and Allan Stam argue that democracies are the most successful in war or military combat. In their book, Democracies at War, Stam and Reiter argue that after observing conflicts since the 1800 s, democratic governments tend to be more selective in choosing conflicts to participate in and democracies also have a propensity to win more often than authoritarian regimes. The purpose of this paper is to present a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The case of Israel was chosen for two reasons. First, Stam and Reiter mention Israel in their book and argue that this state is a prime example of how democracies are better equipped, trained, motivated, and successful in war. Michael Desch questions this claim by Stam and Reiter over Israel, especially the argument that they fight more adequately and the soldiers of democracies are better trained. These conflicting commits over Israel lays the foundation of an adequate need for a case study to see if Israel is, as Stam and Reiter claims, more successful at war because they are a democracy, or Desch s counter argument that Israel fought so well because they were fighting for survival, not because of their regime. The second reason why Israel has been chosen as the case study for this paper is because they have arguably never lost a war since independence and seem to improve in conflict through the years. The greatest contribution I hope to make in this paper is a deeper understanding of how democracies choose and fight wars. Due to time constraints, this paper is only addressing one case study that deals with two wars. As in any case study the results are limited to that particular case. However, the research creates more in depth examination over the arguments by Stam and Reiter and, in a more general sense, attempts to analyze propositions made by democratic theorist. Methodology The methodology, as stated before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The question of the Buddhist view of existence being optimistic or pessimistic is one which is many have an opinion on. It could be said that the four noble truths provide the views of the Buddha in the way that life is led and more importantly, should be led. Certainly, the end goal is clearly optimistic, the attainment of spiritual enlightenment, or nirvana. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pleasure, prosperity, success and fame are short term gains. This is what the Buddha taught as the Second Noble Truth of the Cause of Suffering Desire (Tanha). Again these could be considered a very pessimistic view of the human condition. Nothing has any permanent meaning, life s hard and then we die. Ignorance of the Buddha s teachings, might attribute all happiness and suffering to some external cause, believing that happiness and suffering come from the environment, or from the gods, and that everything that happens originates in some source outside of one s control. If one believes this, then it is extremely hard, if not impossible, to envisage eliminating suffering and its causes which is in itself an extremely pessimistic point of view. On the other hand, when a person accepts responsibility that experience of suffering is a product of what the self has done, that is, a result of personal karma, eliminating suffering becomes a real possibility. Buddhism believes that once awareness of suffering takes place, one can begin to remove the causes of suffering. This is the understanding of karma. Accepting responsibility for our own behaviour is an essential part of being able to change it, and a real source of optimism. The third noble truth is the cessation of suffering. Our cessation of suffering is something that we cannot depend on anyone else to help us with, because it is such a personal thing. The truth of universal origination means that if our ... The Union lost 16,800 men and the Confederates lost 13,000 men. It is considered one of Lee s finest battles. Jackson s arm had to be amputated from the injury he got. The Battle of Gettysburg The Battle of Gettysburg happened after Lee won Chancelorsville. Lee went to Pennsylvania hoping to capture a northern city and re supply his men. • 20. A Restaurant At A Glance Essay Dining at a Glance When it comes to dining in at a restaurant we all want the best service that we can get. When I think of the best service I think about the cleanliness, nice waitresses, good food, and affordable prices. There are so many different options when a family thinks about going out to eat, especially if they have small children. It s often hard to go to a nice dine in restaurant because sometimes it s hard to find something on the menu for everyone in the family. I have experienced many things at two completely different restaurants. I can say Demos is better than Logan s because the food and service is much better. Cleanliness is especially important for women; no one wants to go into a restroom that has nasty, unsanitary toilets. Having a nice waitress is a big impact on a family s dining experience. If you have a rude waitress, it ruins the whole meal. If you have a family, affordable prices are convenient because you don t have to worry about leaving the restaurant broke! Lastly, good food, it makes or breaks your dining experience. This is mainly good for women seeking delicious and cheap meals for their families. Demos is located in Murfreesboro which is known to be a very populated town. With that being said, sometimes there is a 5 10 minute wait on a table. As long as I ve been going there to eat it has never been over ten minutes. It s not really a fancy place to eat its more casual. When you walk in you hear classical music it s very peaceful ... Comparing Roosevelt s Next, And The New Nationalism I argue that when it comes to developing our capabilities, Roosevelt s argument that the main purpose for freedom is to benefit the community is the most viable because it helps maintain democratic processes, while also providing a higher quality of life for all. While Sen and Roosevelt are similar because they both believe that a society can only develop if the people are given equal opportunity to develop their capabilities, they differ when it comes to the purpose of fulfilling those capabilities. In this essay, I will outline Sen s argument as to why development should be viewed in terms of maximizing our freedoms to achieve our desired lives, in contrast to Roosevelt s argument. At first, Sen s argument seems appealing because we are all able to keep the fruits of our labor, and decide what kind of life we want to live. This fits in line with man s natural tendencies toward selfishness, and it seems that it would be difficult to develop one s capabilities simply for the case of the commonwealth, and not for oneself. As naturally self interested beings, we would always want to develop all of our capabilities so that we may live the lives we have reason to desire. However, only using our freedom for self interested motives leads to numerous issues. For example, one of the most important aspects of a democracy is exercising one s right to vote; however, if one is only concerned with oneself, they will vote in a way that only them, and perhaps other members of one s social class, will benefit the most. Thus, people could end up voting for a leader who plans to make them, and others like them, wealthier by keeping wealth within a small percentage of the population. Not only does this hinder development as Sen sees it, but it also has many negative implications for a society; for example, it may lead to higher levels of poverty, crime, unrest, dissatisfaction, and eventually lead to civil tension (all of which are unfreedoms). Similarly, some members of the community may have no interest in politics, or may think they do not pertain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On Monday the 21st of September I went to see the play War Horse at the New London Theatre. It shows the old technology in this case the horse meeting the new technology the tank. As Joey meets the tank he screams and gallops fast past the tank, while doing so Joey breaths rapidly. This is shown when the actors controlling the horse move the stomach inwards and out. There is a use of strobe lighting effects into the audience to make them feel Joey s fear and panic that he is going through. In addition there is loud classical music playing in the background to intensify the emotions that the horse is going through. When Joey is first faced with the tank he runs, this is shown by the clever use of the revolve. The use of juxtapositioning occurs here, as it shows the old warfare facing the new warfare. The death of Major Nicholls is also a much stylised moment as it involves physicalisation. With great timing other actors moves Major Nicholls s body to perform a summersault as he falls to his death. Another reason why this moment is a symbolic moment in the play is because as he falls to his death he breaks his promise with Albert. • 28. Angry Black White Boy In Adam Mansbach s Angry Black White Boy (ABWB), the protagonist, Macon Detornay, is a white male who is obsessed with black culture and angry with white Americans. Macon moved to New York City for college and began a crime spree of robbing white people who rode in his taxicab. The city of New York went on a search for the black man who was supposedly robbing these people. Eventually, Macon s true skin color is revealed and he decides to use his newfound fame to discuss the evils of white people. Macon then founded the Race Traitor Project. This idea was for guilty white people and liberals to be a part of what he called a Day of Apology, in which white people were to apologize for the hundreds of years of oppression they put minorities through. The Day of Apology ended up causing a major riot, which led Macon to decide how committed he was to the Race Traitor Project. Adam Mansbach used ABWB as a means to shed light on institutional racism and what can be done to end it. The People s Insurance Company Of Canada Name : Dolphine Bisase Id : 213349311 Assignment: Midterm Assignment, Management 3990 While the intention was that the People s Insurance Company of Canada (PICC) would have an organic organizational structure, this intention was at least partially offset by the close integration of the Insurance company with the parent People s Bank. The result was an entity in which the superficially organic, generally non hierarchical Insurance organization has been overridden by the highly hierarchical and mechanistic bank organization. The PICC s actual structure has both mechanistic and organic aspects. With regard to work specialization, it is generally narrow and mechanistic with the VP for HR, Mary Thorne, fighting an ongoing battle with the Bank on the grounds that PICC needed staff with specialized skills in the insurance industry. With respect to chain of command, while the structure of PICC was intended to be open, non hierarchical and organic, it is clear that it is generally mechanistic in its most important aspects. For example, while there may be an open office environment in general, the senior team members have private offices. Similarly, while the the emphasis of PICC is towards self managing teams, many approvals such as new purchases had to be signed off by multiple layers of the bank s management. Analyzing Langston Hughes The Weary Blues Jeremy Thomas Mrs. Rothstein English 9H: Period 3 21 May 2015 Research Paper on the poem The Weary Blues by Langston Hughes Langston Hughes published The Weary Blues in 1926 when he was twenty four, and the poem depicts his life in his own unique perspective as a struggling black man. ( Langston Hughes 2 of 3). In the poem Hughes creates a speaker who is spending a night out and listens to a black man singing the blues. In one stanza, he illustrates a scene in which the African American singer expresses pride in his heritage, strength, soul, and the depth to which his emotions and spirituality reach. The imagery in the poem paints a very gloomy and melancholy atmosphere. Even rhyme plays an important role because it gave consistency and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of imagery is very strong throughout this poem. Words like mellow, pale, drowsy, melancholy, and dull, suggest to the reader that the atmosphere surrounding the speaker is dark and gloomy. Even lights in the street is not sufficient to brighten the surroundings, being that the only source of light stated is the pale dull pallor of an old gas light. The haziness of this light with darkness of the night, evokes a sense of sluggishness in the atmosphere. The singer speaks of his struggles and opinions, and it is reflected in the third stanza: With his ebony hands on each ivory key (Hughes line 9). In the singer s era, the impression of black and white coming together to form harmony would be unlikely, but he has reached this goal by creating the melodic tune that comes out of the piano. Since he was in a time where class distinctions with African Americans were quite rigid, and he was a busboy, struggling with his emotions, his past incidents inspired and motivated him ( Langston Hughes 1 of 3). Hence, with deep imagery during the course of the poem, Hughes epitomizes his struggles and differences within his society by comparing it with a similar man s struggling situation of life using strong imagery. It is apparent that the woe conveyed through his writing shows his struggles, and displeased attitude towards society and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is what Bernard Kouchner thought when he created Medecins Sans Frontieres, or Doctors Without Borders. The amount of helpless people in third world countries shows that without the aid of Medecins Sans Frontieres citizens would be without the medical assistance that they deserve. This same approach was used for the mental health services department since March of 1998 in Bosnia. Group interventions were prefered because of the secondary benefits of sharing and mutual support. MEdecins Sans Frontiers found that communities were generally supportive of each other. (Jong). While nearly 300 miles apart the same data was collected from differing victims. This proves how the organization improves the world through research and development by showing how this organization collects and quality control checks data using a less progressive method as to ensure more active and dependable data. This method of testing multiple times is used everywhere but in a more advanced way with Medecins Sans Frontieres. As shown when a Medecins Sans Frontieres team stationed in Bosnia discovered that victims are more likely to talk in a group than alone. This same finding was also evident, found around the same time in Kosovo. • 47. Titanic Sinning 11 16 15 The Sinking of the Greatest My paper is about the Titanic and why it is an important event in history. The Titanic was an awfully big ship. It was about 883 feet long, and weighed 52,310 tons which is huge, the largest ship ever actually. It was designed by Thomas Andrews, but built by Harland and Wolff, which was a ship building company. It was built in Belfast, United Kingdom. They started building the ship on March 31, 1909 and launched the final ship project on May 31, 1911. Which I honestly think they finished it really fast. The Titanic when full could carry 2,435 passengers, and a crew of approximately 900. Which brought her capacity to more than 3,300 plus people. With all those 3,300 plus ... Because of careless mistakes from dumb people. There were too many mistakes made that caused the disaster. However the Titanic could have been saved had just a few of these events not happened. • 48. Psychodynamic Personality Profile of Johnny Depp Essay Personality, like most core Psychology subjects, is difficult to define. Personality is essentially the science of describing and understanding people. No two people are the same; even identical twins will tell you that they are very different to their identical counterpart. There are some who are anxious and there are those who are risk takers. There are some who are carefree while there are those who are highly strung and there are those who are over confident while some are just plain shy. It is this issue of differences that are fundamental to the study and examination of personality. Research also shows indicates that the Big Five has distinct biological substrates thereby linking trait perspective with the biological perspective (DeYoung, Quilty Peterson, 2007). However this convergence of perspectives is actually productive in that all perspectives by themselves have their disadvantages as well as their advantages. If all perspectives can coincide with one another, explanations of personality will become so much easier. The psychoanalytic perspective is the most interesting theory of the analysis of an individual and their personality. Initially developed by Freud during the latter half of the 1900s, it deals with, among other things, the irrational and less predictable patterns of behaviour and human thinking, which is what most other theories of personality often leave out and are criticised for it. In understanding Johnny Depp, a psychodynamic perspective best accounts for his personality: as a complete theory, it can explain his behaviour from when he was a child to becoming a famous movie star, integrates other theories into its analysis, such as Evolutionary and Learning perspectives, thus providing a fairly reliable and accurate interpretation of his personality. As a kid, Johnny Depp had a troublesome childhood. His father was continually searching for secure work in order to support his family, resulting in them moving around a lot, living in motels, shifting from place to place. This no doubt took a ... • 49. Similarities Between Han China And Imperial Rome Imperial Rome and Han China were two of the biggest empires during the Classical period. They shared many of the same qualities, yet they had little to no contact with one another. Imperial Rome and Han China were similar because they used ideologies to control their citizens rather than religion, and they were different because Han China had an extensive educated bureaucracy as opposed to Rome s authoritarian government based on military power. Han China and Imperial Rome used ideologies to shape their society. In Han China, Confucianism was used as a basis to control its bureaucrats and citizens. This ideology, created by Confucius, encouraged moral and cultural unity. It encouraged respect towards authority, and set guidelines for how an individual should act towards people above their social class and people below their social class.
