World War Part 2 Summary
In Part II, Glover discusses the tragic effects of war on the average person s morality. This is done
through morally distancing oneself from what events that are considered horrific or tragic. As soldiers
and armies slowly distance themselves from close range combat with long range strikes such as
missiles and drones, there is more acceptance of what is normally considered impermissible.
Glover concludes that the weight of war on the human moral identity breaks it down. It enforces a
civilian to go against one the biggest tenants of civilian life which is to do not harm and not kill. By
requiring soldiers to kill other humans, they require a dehumanization of soldiers in order to make
them more effective as well as skewing their moral compass. Glover shows that events such as Mai
Lai and soldiers abusing civilians doesn t stem from a trait, but from the erosion of human morality as
conflicting traumatic events force the individual to change their own code.
Current literature supports Glover s theory in terms of the damaging effect of war on the human
psychology. It has progressed to the point where soldiers experience flashbacks or PTSD from how
horrifying the experience was. The effects of war on the individual is well documented and Glover
pulls primary source ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It seems as though people have a morality tuner which they can slide up or down depending on the
situation in order to cope. However, Glover describes that the civilian take a complete 180 from
completely tabooing murder to needing to improve at it to be more effective. This complete shift in
ideology comes with the shift in a moral compass of the individual. If armies are intentionally training
soldiers to lose emotion and become more of Robots, then its not wonder that people s moral compass
is nothing better than a robot s conditional

Akaky Isolation
The overcoat was an interesting short story, Akaky seems kind of like me he keeps to himself but, then
gets a lot of friends when he gets a new coat. Akaky faces me things in this short story. One thing he
faces human isolation, being alone would bother many people and lead to depression but, Akaky was
content with being alone. Second thing Akaky faces is urban alienation, being in Russia a tough place
with no family or friends Akaky tends to keep to himself. Lastly Akaky faces social injustice
Akaky faced human isolation, which did not bother him. He was perfectly content with being alone
and his life had no problems. I think Akaky liked being alone and to himself because at work people
would often make fun of him and treat bad, it was sort of like he was that weird guy everyone made
fun of but, Akaky paid them no mind. For example Nogoli stated that The young clerks laughed at him
and made fun of him, as much as their bureaucratic sense of humor was ... Show more content on

There are many things people do with their free time in the overcoat for example, when clerks hurry to
devote their free hours to pleasure one more adventurous than the rest goes to the theater; another, into
the streets to indulge himself in inspecting ladies along with many other things people do Akaky, did
not bother with any of that or was tempted to do much of anything with his free time. I think the
lonely of not having friends and a low income got to Akaky, Nogoli stated in the overcoat t that And
thus flowed on the peaceful life of the man, who, with a salary of four hundred rubles, understood how
to be content with his fate . Its like AKaky accepted the life that he has of not doing anything much
and living his life day by day. The effect of not having no one to push him to do better make Akaky
not strive for nothing

Presidential Election Of The United States
After almost two years on the campaign trail, the United States of America has finally elected its new
president, Donald Trump. No that is not a typo, this is real life. It was a hard fought battle between
Hillary Clinton and the Donald which ultimately lead to one of the most shocking upsets in recent
American politics. Being that the odds were heavily stacked against Trump as poll after poll predicted
Clinton be the victor, it was to the astonishment of many that he reigned victorious during this 2016
presidential election cycle. Be it the will of the country (or in this case electoral college ) this
poisonous cheeto will now be the 45th president of the United States. So how did this happen, what
was it about Trump that pushed voter behavior in his favor in many key battleground states? Trumps
victory lies in the hands of the silent majority who at this point were dying for change and saw it
within the republican nominee. The biggest contributing factor to Trump s win on November 8 was
retrospective voting which a lot of voters clearly engaged in this election cycle. When making the
decision of who to vote for during an election, voters often tend to start looking within at their own
situation before throwing their support at a candidate. Questioning whether ones is better off now than
they were before the previous election is known as retrospective voting. This concept is the idea that
voters take into consideration factors such as the performance a political party ,

Steam Engine
The Steam Engine and the Civil War
Question: How did the Steam Engine influence the Civil War and America in itself?
Throughout the Civil War, there were many people and inventions that positively influenced The Civil
War, but none other than the steam engine. The steam engine was one of the most influential
inventions of the Civil War and America in itself. Before the Steam Engine trade was limited and the
American economy was doing very poorly. The causes of this were the rules of trade and the
inefficient transportation. At the time between the 1700 and 1800 s trade was only allowed during the
Day and was transported by a Wagon and horse which took weeks to deliver. The Steam Engine not
only revolutionized trade and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paragraph V. The Influences of the Steam Engine
Topic Sentence The Influence of the Steam Engine started with many things, such as the struggle with
trade and the limited amounts of transportation.
1.One influence of the Steam Engine was better transportation and trading. With the Railroad and
Train, trade was evolved and goods could be transported fresher and faster.(Savery,Thomas
47,48)
2. Another Influence of the Steam Engine was the lack of transportation. Before the Steam Engine
transportation was limited to only a horse and carriage which moved very slowly. (Pursell, C.W.)
Conclusion These influences of the steam engine helped make what America is today as a superpower
and shaped our economy for the future.
Although there were many other important figures and inventions that positively influenced America
and the Civil War, the Steam Engine is still one of the most important ones. The Steam Engine
evolved trade and transportation forever from switching the standard choice of transportation from a
Horse and Carriage to a Locomotive that was capable of carrying many people. It also changed the
way trade was looked at by decreasing the amount of time goods and supplies took to reach their
destination. The transcontinental Rail Road made it possible for trade to be delivered promptly and
efficiently. With the Locomotive, various types of goods could be transported even goods that needed
to be refrigerated. With the

World War Aviation
Just as the locomotive made the world a smaller place in the nineteenth century, the airplane did the
same for us in the twentieth century, shrinking our planet to the point that a person could fly anywhere
in the world in a matter of hours. Not only have they made travel quick and safe, but aircraft provide
many other services as well: from crop dusting and fighting forest fires to overnight delivery of
packages and chasing hurricanes. They have also revolutionized warfare, turning battle into a long
range affair fought at arm s length by machines of such sophistication that the way wars are fought has
completely changed. Of course, they ve also been responsible for leveling whole cities and bringing
war to the civilian population who had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Long voyages by ship are no longer a necessity to cross the world s oceans. Letters and packages
arrive to distant destinations quickly and safely through air transport. Airplanes deliver supplies
quickly to remote locations in emergency situations and restock military operations. Airplanes also
improve medical care by quickly moving patients from rural areas to large medical centers and
transporting organs to distant locations for transplants. In conclusion the airplane has shaped our
culture immensely. It has changed the way we think. Today, if we want to go across an ocean, we
would go by plane. Most people wouldn t even think of going by ship. If the airplane had not been
invented, we would only think of sailing across the ocean. We also can visit more places and learn
more about other cultures. The airplane has brought us closer together to people, friends, and family
far away. It has also changed what we see as boundaries in the sense that we can travel to faraway
places in a short time. A car ride that would take 6 hours, would only take about 1 hour and 20 minutes
by airplane. Therefore in my opinion, the invention of the airplane is still today one of the greatest
inventions to our society accomplished in the twentieth

Corporate Governance And Insider Trading
CHAPTER I
THE CONCEPT OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE AND INSIDER TRADING
This chapter shall deal with the concepts of corporate governance and insider trading, with explaining
the development of the insider trading laws. It is essential to understand the concept of corporate
governance first, in order to be able to understand the offence of insider trading in detail. Then the
meaning and the concept of insider trading along with its evolution is explained subsequently in this
chapter.
1.1 CORPORATE GOVERNANCE

The following things can be expected to be ensured by good corporate governance:
Effectual decision making by the management with proper disclosures necessary from time to time to
accomplish the corporate objectives.
The business transactions are expected to be carried out transparently by the management.
All the statutory and legal obligations to be followed without any breach of the law.
Interest of all the stakeholders to be protected by the actions of the management.
The maintenance of ethical conduct and commitment to the values while carrying out the business
transactions.
In other words, corporate governance is the acceptance by management of the inalienable rights of
shareholders as the true owners of the corporation and of their own role as trustees on behalf of the
shareholders. It deals with conducting the affairs of a company such that there is fairness to all
stakeholders and that its actions benefit the greatest number of stakeholders. In this regard, the
management needs to prevent asymmetry of benefits between various sections of shareholders,
especially between the owner, managers and the rest of the shareholders.
A good Corporate Governance is integral to the very existence of a company and strengthens investor
s confidence by ensuring company s commitment to higher growth and profits. Broadly, it seeks to

Genetics And Genomics Case Study
Genetics and Genomics
1. Identify a genetic disease or disorder.
Stroke is often related to other genetic diseases or disorders. Stroke occurs by blood flow being
interrupted to the brain by either a clot or a bleed on the brain. The brain cells die quickly if blood
flow is blocked (Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, 2016a). Ischemic stroke occurs when
blood flow is blocked by clots or particles (CDC, 2016a). Hemorrhagic stroke occurs when the brain
has a bleed from blood vessels bursting (CDC, 2016a). Stroke can leave individuals with deficits and
dependent on others for care. Stroke can cause death.

Going to the hospital as soon as signs or symptoms is notice is the key to stroke treatment (CDC,
2017). Tissue plasminogen activator (TPA) can be used for ischemic stroke if arrival to the hospital is
within three hours of the first symptoms. Medicine, surgery, and rehabilitation can also be used for
treatment of stroke (CDC, 2017).
5. What are the causes or risk factors related to this disease or disorder?
Risk factors for having a stroke is often related to underlying diseases or disorders. High blood
pressure, elevated cholesterol, heart disorders, diabetes, prior stroke, and sickle cell disease are risk
factors for a stroke (CDC, 2017b). Lifestyle choices such as unhealthy diet, obesity, physical
inactivity, tobacco, and too much alcohol can also increase the risk for having a stroke (CDC, 2017a).
Genes passed on from family members, genetic disorders, age, sex, race, and ethnicity can also
increase the risk for stroke (CDC, 2016b).
6. Who is most commonly affected by this disease or disorder?
All races, ethnicity, and sex are susceptible to strokes. African Americans are at greater risk for stroke.

management. In preclinical trials; ABX EGF was so successful that it had attracted a number of
potential partners. Abgenix had three different options. Pharmacol, Biopart and go it alone. Abgenix
had to decide whether to: License ABX EGF to a pharmaceutical company which would do all further
testing and commercialization. (This was the option of Pharmacol. Abgenix would bear little risk and
receive license royalties.)
Use a joint venture with a biotechnology company to complete the testing and commercialization.
(This was the option of Biopart. Abgenix would bear moderate risk but split profits.)
Pursue the ABX EGF project as a solo venture. (This was the option of going alone. Abgenix would
bear all risks but gather all the profits.)
F. Conclusion and Recommendations:
Abgenix was about to make an important decision.
The advantages of having a partner are as follows: Additional resources and cash to develop ABX
EGF properly, Decreasing the risk of Abgenix if ABX EGF runs of either not developing it properly or
that the product turns out to be unsuccessful after Abgenix invests a large amount of cash. Partner s

Summary Of The Story Of The Three Little Pigs
In England, 1890 there was a tale named The Story of the Three Little Pigs . In this tale, an old sow
sends her three little pigs into the world to seek their fortune. The pig s meet a man; he supplies them
with building materials such as: straws, sticks, and bricks. Each pig uses one of the materials to build
their house with. The first pig builds his house with straws and the second with sticks; only to get
devoured by a hungry wolf who huffed and puffed and blew their houses down. However, the third pig
who built his house with bricks survived the mischievous wolf. The wolf thought to himself, Well! If I
can t get to him, then I ll have to find a way to bring him to me . So, the wolf tried to lure the pig out
of his home. He tried three various places the: turnip field, apple tree, and fair. But, the pig outsmarted
him by going one hour earlier. The wolf was angry and decided to climb down the pig s chimney.
Subsequently, the wolf was unaware of what the pig had in store for him on the other side; a big pot of
scorching water. The pig celebrated his victory by eating the wolf for dinner. Throughout The Story of
the Three Little Pigs the third little pig outwitted his brothers by exemplifying astute qualities that
allowed him to further his quest against the wolf. There was a plethora of different events that
showcased the third pig s intelligence. To name a few: building his house with bricks, surviving the
apple tree incident, the fair and cooking the wolf

The Milky Way
Introduction
Our galaxy, The Milky Way, is composed of billion of stars of all ages, sizes and masses. A common
stars, like our Sun, constantly gives out small amounts of X ray radiation, and larger burst of X rays
during a solar flare. Along with our Sun, stars shine as a result of nuclear reaction that happens deep
within their core. Causing chemical reactions that converts light elements into heavier ones and while
releasing energy in the process. Energy from the central region provides pressure to keep the star from
falling apart under its own weight. The contracting cloud is then called a protostar. A protostar is the
earliest stage of a star s life. A star is born when the gas and dust from a nebula become so hot that
nuclear fusion starts. Once a star has turned on it is known as a main sequence star. When a main
sequence star begins to run out of hydrogen fuel, the star becomes a red giant or a red supergiant.
The Birth of Star (Nebulas)
All stars start as a nebula. Nebulas are large clouds of dust, hydrogen, helium and other ionized gases.
Gravity then might pull the gas and dust in a nebula together. In example of this is the Orion Nebula,
which was located in excellent detail by NASA s Hubble Space Telescope and Spitzer Space
Telescope. A protostar is formed from the contracting clouds deep within these clouds that gives rise
to knots with sufficient mass that the gas and dust can begin to collapse under its own gravitational
attraction (NASA, para.4). As

America s Failure to Join the League of Nations Essay
America entered World War One in 1917. America and the President, Woodrow Wilson, were horrified
by the destruction that had taken place in such a humane part of the world. The only way to avoid a
repeat of such a disaster was to create an international committee whose purpose was to prevent wars
by maintaining world peace. This would be the task of the League of Nations. Woodrow Wilson was
the creator of the League of Nations in his Fourteen Points Speech. This was ironic because the United
States failed to join the League of Nations. This can be seen in the US delegations in Paris, the
Congressional election of 1918, Article X, Wilson s conflict with republican senators and his problem

Wilson made a compromise whereby Japan kept Germany s economic holdings in Shandong and he
said he would return the peninsula to China at a later date. The Chinese were outraged. Wilson
realized that all of these compromises caused for injustices in the League of Nations, but he was
hoping that this League would even out with good for America, which would have strong say in the
League. When he returned home to get final say from America he was again hit hard by the senators.
Wilson felt that strong support from Congress, especially in the senate, would be important with
bargaining with European powers in the upcoming negotiations. The voters elected republican power
in Congress in the Congressional elections of 1918. Wilson had enjoyed majority in both houses for
his first two years in congress so in October of 1918 Wilson issued an appeal to the voters claiming he
wanted to keep a Democratic majority in the both the senate and the House of Representatives. The
Republicans became very angry saying that they had actually been more supportive of Wilson s war
plans than his own party had. The voters responded with a fifty seat majority in the House and a two
seat majority in the

On researching the historical, theoretical and clinical perspectives regarding ASD, I found the

difficulties I encounter within my profession, being that of problems in social communication,
interaction and imagination. I had previously considered these secondary issues resulting from ASD
and not the primary aspects. On realising this, it has helped me revise my practice into dealing with
these principal characteristics instead of treating them as a derivative cause. The revised notion of the

The Divine Comedy By Dante Aleghiri
Dante Aleghiri s Divine Comedy is widely taught and written about. In it Dante, the author, details his
trip through Hell, Purgatory, and then Paradise. The Divine Comedy was written during Dante s exile
from his beloved city of Florence Italy. The work itself is read at various different levels. One could
read it as a theological work, a political work, simply as a poetic work, or even as a philosophical
work. In his work, Dante s Paradiso: No Human Beings Allowed philosophy professor Bruce Silver
argues that, Dante is not a philosopher, instead he just deals with philosophical issues, including the
relation between reasoning well and happiness. Dr. Jason Aleksander, the philosophy department chair
at Saint Xavier s University, would disagree, stating, In short, for Dante, wisdom, the body of
philosophy, results from the proper ordering of earthly desires or, in other words, from the order
among the moral virtues. Aleksander sees Dante as a philosopher tackling philosophical issues and
because he takes that stance he interprets Dante differently than Silver does. Though both see Dante s
work as philosophical they take differing stances on certain points and actually tackle the work in two
different ways. Silver makes concise arguments towards Dante trying to deal with the balance between
reason and faith. He specifically talks about, the relation between reasoning well and happiness. Silver
uses several different philosophers to prove his point,

Wideman also brings up his writing problems as he tells the story, as a way to let the reader know the

will be able to leave out his view of the story so that he does not turn the final story into a one that just
explains how he perceived his brothers interview. Wideman relates the problems that he has
communicating with Robby to his own writing; he is not sure how to face the whole situation of
speaking with his brother about personal things. The relationship that they had growing up led them to
this awkwardness, but Wideman faces these challenges and overcomes them by catching up on what
was currently going on with the family. His writing reflects this because as he questions himself in this
prose he seems to be unsure as to how he wants his story structured. Wideman is up front to his

There is a populace of 18 million in Australia with Indigenous Australians making up roughly one
percent of the Australian population. Due to this, the closest that a non Indigenous Australians will

the Australian media. Most media stories are viewed as one sided or racist with even the Prime

Misrepresentation of Indigenous Australians in the media, as seen in the Courier Mail (Article A) and

Irony In Ballad Of Birmingham
In the Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall, the story focuses around an African American girl
who wants to go march in downtown Birmingham so that she in contributing to the protest for
freedom. Her mother refuses to let her young girl go due to the horrible violence that it entitles.
Instead of going to the march, the mother sends her innocent child to church instead thinking that she
would be safer there than in Birmingham. What are the odds that her daughter died in church and not
at the march? Nothing bad could happen, right? The single most key element that shapes the entire
meaning on the poem is the irony in the situation that actually took place in 1963. Though she begged
but, mother, I won t be alone, / other children will go with me (Randall 9 10), the girl s mother would
not allow her child to be put in the face of danger. The freedom marches were anything but pleasant
because like the mother says, I fear those guns will fire (Randall 14). Dogs were released on African
Americans, they were doused in water from firetruck hoses, and even gun fire made an appearance in
response to their protests. The freedom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

knew if her daughter participated in the march that she may not make it home as the chance of death

no risk attending church and singing in the choir unlike the march as it was a chaos of violence.
Therefore, the fact that the child died in a church bombing instead of at the Freedom March is nothing
but irony, and it shapes this poem entirely. The one place that is sacred ended up being the burial
ground of a child who would have been safer at the march, and who would have made it back home to

Saint Michael Casting Satan Into Hell
One of the art pieces that I have chosen is called Saint Michael Casting Satan into Hell created by
Francesco Picano after a design by Lorenzo Vaccarno. This piece was made in 1705 in Italy (Naples)
during the times of Italy s Renaissance movement. According to the article Brief History of Italy by
Tim Lambert states that, The 18th century was an age of enlightenment when the power of the church
was curtailed (sec 8). Which stating that during this time religion was highly focused in their works as
a gateway for new ideas. This artwork is located at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art inside the
Ahmanson building on the third floor, in the center of the exhibit under European art. The reason why
I chose this piece is because this piece was interesting, how they represent the idea how it s
represented in the stories that was focused in the work. As well as how it s place near the center so
people can observe it from many different angles. This piece is a sculpture work that uses
Polychromed wood and glass that were carved and molded into and it s at least two feet tall.
The next piece that I have chosen is called Dancer s Headpiece in The Form of the Hindu Goddess
Kali created in India. It was made in the late 15th century in India, Kerala during the time period of
ancient India. This artwork is located at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art inside the Ahmanson
building on the Fourth floor on the right hand side of the exhibit under South and Southeast Asian art

Essay about The Central Part of Berkeley s Metaphysics
The Central Part of Berkeley s Metaphysics
The central part of Berkeley s metaphysics seems paradoxical or even absurd. Its claim is that what we
call solid, and indeed everything else that we find laid out in the three dimensional physical word that
is apparently around us, is only fictional. It appears to be there, but it does not really have an
independent existence. The physical world is, according to Berkeley, dependent on and only perceived
through a mental state. In Three Dialogues Between Hylas and Philonous, Berkeley tried to explain
how a seemingly noncommonsensical theory can actually consist of commonsensical characteristics.
There are two contentions made by Berkeley in his attempt to prove that commonsense is the basis ...

Hence, none or these qualities exist outside the mind because we all see things differently. It is
impossible, therefore, that matter be something existing in itself, objective, inert, and devoid of
thought. According to Berkeley, when we say that a thing exists, we mean nothing more than that such
a thing is merely perceived by us. Berkeley stated, To be is to be perceived. Berkeley s answer to the
philosophical question, if there is no one in the forest when a tree falls, is there a sound, would be no
because the forest cannot exist without a perceiver. Primary or secondary qualities, substances and
impressions are nothing other than acts of perception, that is, mental facts; and their existence signifies
their being perceived as mental acts. If I walk into a room containing a table, the table exists.
However, when I leave the room, the table no longer exists.
The Paradoxical problem arises when one asks, how is it then that when I return to the room, the table
is still there? While denying the existence of a material world, Berkeley did not deny the existence of
the world of spirits/minds. He believed that from the very presence of ideas and impressions, there had
to existence finite spirits/minds, and because there had to be an origin of these ideas/impression, there
had to exist a finite spirit/mind. Finite spirits/minds refers to humans and the Infinite Spirit/Mind
refers to God. Now

Who Decided To Make A Riot Analysis
Assignment 4 Who decided to make a riot one day? Why did they think violence should be the
answer? When it comes down to the people getting our voice heard, brutality should not have been a
thought that came to mind. Riots are irrelevant because of how innocent people are victimized when
they aren t the ones causing the unfair treatment in our society. I wonder why individuals go against
their own people when it s the ones who are in charge of decision making who we should be angry
with. I think that s exactly what the government wants us to do, go against each other so they could
throw us in prison and make billions of dollars off of us. If the people knew what they were doing to
themselves I guarantee they would put an end to it. It seems

Music On Greek Theatre And Religion

Music in Greek Theatre and Religion
Music was a large part of everyday life in Ancient Greece. The people thought of music as a gift from
their gods, associating different instruments with specific gods. Their term for music was not limited
strictly to vocal and instrumental melody, but referred to dance, lyrics, and even poetry reading. Music
was brought into many facets of life for Ancient Greek citizens, from weddings and funerals, to
banquets and religious festivals. Education and Drama were also parts of Ancient Greek life to which
music was integral.
Many of the instruments used in Ancient Greek music were thought to be created by the gods. The
lyre by Hermes, the aulos by Athena, and the panpipes by Pan. The nine muses personified the various
aspects of music in the broader sense of the term. Calliope represented epic poetry and rhetoric, Cleo s
domain was history, Erato signified singing, Euterpe represented lyric poetry, Melpomene s
significance was in singing tragedy, Polymnia s domain was hymns to the pantheon and to Greek
heroes, Terpsichore delighted in dancing, Thalia signified comedy, and lastly Urania represented
astronomy. The nine muses were born daughters of Zeus and the titan Mnemosyne after the two
copulated for nine consecutive nights. Apollo led a chorus comprised of the nine muses, and they are
often associated with him.
The auloi were primarily used in worship of Dionysos, the Greek god of wine,

Korean War And Its Effects On Korea
Kim Jong un, North Korea s leader, is currently testing weapons of mass destruction and threatening
to aim them at the United States. The Democratic Republic of Korea is a communist dictatorship with
Kim Jong un declaring himself the Supreme Leader. The Republic of Korea, otherwise known as
South Korea, is a non communist state with Moon Jae in as its president. It is a democratic republic
with three branches of government. North Korea and South Korea were once one nation under Japan.
They are now bitter enemies and have no plan to reunify due to a long history of violence between the
two states starting with the end of World War II. The Cold War caused the Korean War and negatively

After World War II, the United States and the Soviet Union were no longer allies and both became
world superpowers in their own right. Since the Joint Commission failed to establish a government to
unify Korea, the country was split into North Korea and South Korea. Because of the United States
and the Soviet Union not being able to build a government together, Korea was divided into North
Korea and South Korea, permanently establishing their own governments. The attempt at unification
failed, then each country (the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic) worked to
politically influence the portion of Korea that they occupied. The Soviet Union pushed for the spread
of communism and the United States pushed for a democratic and capitalistic society. The United
States and the Soviet Union had many resources that allowed them to greatly influence the
development of the part of Korea that they occupied. From 1948 to 1950 the Soviet Union greatly
influenced communism in North Korea by supplying them with weapons and military supplies
(Korean War). The weapons given to the North Koreans helped to advance them in national security.
North Korea had a swift economic recovery with the outside assistance from the Soviet Union and
China (Asia for Educators). This

1. What Role Does The Queen Of Hearts Play Against Alice
1. What role does the Queen of Hearts play against Alice? The Queen of Hearts bears similar qualities
as a boss in a game; she is the final obstacle Alice encounters before waking up. The Queen is the
ruler over Wonderland and is described as a cold hearted, short tempered tyrant. When Alice in the last
chapters of the book, meets The Queen, she encounters true fear. It is stated that Alice knows logically
there is nothing to fear, since both the Queen and the royal prosecution are simply a stack of playing
cards, yet she does indeed feel frightened in The Queens presence. Carroll may have alluded to the
subconsciousness of humankind; feeling fear even though logic tells one not to. What the Queen also
bear similarities to, is a child. She

The Pico And Peo Formats
The PICO and PEO formats are used commonly in health research and nursing to form a research
question. Using one of these formats will assist you to find out the key concepts of the research
question, develop applicable search terms and determine inclusion and exclusion criteria. PICO format
is mostly used in quantitative research whereas PEO is used in qualitative research questions.
In a quantitative PICOT format (P) stands for Population, patient, problem (I) Intervention (C)
Comparison and (O) Outcome (University Campus Suffolk, 2012). One of the safety issues I have
noticed in Summerville is children driving the bicycle without a helmet. This is a serious safety issue
as it can result in serious head injury and death. A quantitative research question was made by using
the PICOT format based on this safety concern.
P Children riding the bicycle
I wearing a helmet
C Not wearing a helmet
O Prevent head injury.
PICOT question Wearing a helmet (I) when children riding a bicycle (P) can prevent head injuries (O)
compared to children not wearing a helmet (C)?
A Descriptive research purpose was used to answer the quantitative research PICOT question. In
human research, a descriptive study can provide naturally occurring health status, behavior, attitudes
and other characteristics of a particular group. In descriptive studies, data is collected without
interfering the environment and is also referred as observational study. Descriptive studies are

Resource Constraints Essay
iii. The Constraints
There is always a scarcity of resources such as man, money, machine, material, time, space and others.
The availability and usage of these resources by various activities are represented as linear equalities
and inequalities in terms of decision variables. An LP solution may be accepted provided these
constraints are satisfied by it. Along with resource constraints, one more assumption that act as a
constraint is known as non negativity constraint or restriction. As per this constraint, the decision
variables can take either zero or positive values.

Reliability And Fluidity
Exploring Reliability and Validity The Values and Motives Questionnaire looks to assess the
motivation of an individual as their values simultaneously interact with the tasks they engage in and

The Consequences Of Frankenstein In Mary Shelley s...
As Friedrich Nietzsche argues: If you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into
you . This is precisely what happens to the titular Frankenstein in Mary Shelley s novel. What begins
as a journey for knowledge soon turns into tragedy as the creation of Victor s monster leads to the
deaths of everyone he is close to. Knowledge is not always worth its cost, as evidenced by Victor s
downward spiral towards monstrosity, the creature s dissatisfaction and hatred with his own life, and
Robert Walton s wasted expedition to the Arctic. Ever since his youth, Victor has been fascinated by
the sciences and nature. This curiosity is what drives him to attend a University in Ingolstadt, away
from his family and loved ones. His best friend, Henry Clerval, attends school alongside Victor but is
promptly neglected by Victor in favor of his studies. After his mother s untimely death, Victor begins
to shift his focuses towards reanimating a human corpse, which at first glance seems both impossible
and unethical. Both of his professors explain to Victor that his idea is impossible and he s wasting his
time, but this only fuels the fire burning inside him. He becomes completely enveloped in his project
and his health greatly suffers because of it. While he is working, he admits the toll this process has
taken on him: I [Victor] shunned my fellow creatures as if I had been guilty of a crime. Sometimes I
grew alarmed at the wreck I perceived that I had become

  • 2. World War Part 2 Summary In Part II, Glover discusses the tragic effects of war on the average person s morality. This is done through morally distancing oneself from what events that are considered horrific or tragic. As soldiers and armies slowly distance themselves from close range combat with long range strikes such as missiles and drones, there is more acceptance of what is normally considered impermissible. Glover concludes that the weight of war on the human moral identity breaks it down. It enforces a civilian to go against one the biggest tenants of civilian life which is to do not harm and not kill. By requiring soldiers to kill other humans, they require a dehumanization of soldiers in order to make them more effective as well as skewing their moral compass. Glover shows that events such as Mai Lai and soldiers abusing civilians doesn t stem from a trait, but from the erosion of human morality as conflicting traumatic events force the individual to change their own code. Current literature supports Glover s theory in terms of the damaging effect of war on the human psychology. It has progressed to the point where soldiers experience flashbacks or PTSD from how horrifying the experience was. The effects of war on the individual is well documented and Glover pulls primary source ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seems as though people have a morality tuner which they can slide up or down depending on the situation in order to cope. However, Glover describes that the civilian take a complete 180 from completely tabooing murder to needing to improve at it to be more effective. This complete shift in ideology comes with the shift in a moral compass of the individual. If armies are intentionally training soldiers to lose emotion and become more of Robots, then its not wonder that people s moral compass is nothing better than a robot s conditional ... Akaky faces me things in this short story. One thing he faces human isolation, being alone would bother many people and lead to depression but, Akaky was content with being alone. Second thing Akaky faces is urban alienation, being in Russia a tough place with no family or friends Akaky tends to keep to himself. Lastly Akaky faces social injustice Akaky faced human isolation, which did not bother him. He was perfectly content with being alone and his life had no problems. I think Akaky liked being alone and to himself because at work people would often make fun of him and treat bad, it was sort of like he was that weird guy everyone made fun of but, Akaky paid them no mind. I think the lonely of not having friends and a low income got to Akaky, Nogoli stated in the overcoat t that And thus flowed on the peaceful life of the man, who, with a salary of four hundred rubles, understood how to be content with his fate . • 4. Presidential Election Of The United States After almost two years on the campaign trail, the United States of America has finally elected its new president, Donald Trump. No that is not a typo, this is real life. It was a hard fought battle between Hillary Clinton and the Donald which ultimately lead to one of the most shocking upsets in recent American politics. Being that the odds were heavily stacked against Trump as poll after poll predicted Clinton be the victor, it was to the astonishment of many that he reigned victorious during this 2016 presidential election cycle. Be it the will of the country (or in this case electoral college ) this poisonous cheeto will now be the 45th president of the United States. So how did this happen, what was it about Trump that pushed voter behavior in his favor in many key battleground states? Trumps victory lies in the hands of the silent majority who at this point were dying for change and saw it within the republican nominee. The biggest contributing factor to Trump s win on November 8 was retrospective voting which a lot of voters clearly engaged in this election cycle. When making the decision of who to vote for during an election, voters often tend to start looking within at their own situation before throwing their support at a candidate. Questioning whether ones is better off now than they were before the previous election is known as retrospective voting. This concept is the idea that voters take into consideration factors such as the performance a political party , ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the Civil War, there were many people and inventions that positively influenced The Civil War, but none other than the steam engine. The steam engine was one of the most influential inventions of the Civil War and America in itself. Before the Steam Engine trade was limited and the American economy was doing very poorly. The causes of this were the rules of trade and the inefficient transportation. At the time between the 1700 and 1800 s trade was only allowed during the Day and was transported by a Wagon and horse which took weeks to deliver. The Influences of the Steam Engine Topic Sentence The Influence of the Steam Engine started with many things, such as the struggle with trade and the limited amounts of transportation. 1.One influence of the Steam Engine was better transportation and trading. With the Railroad and Train, trade was evolved and goods could be transported fresher and faster.(Savery,Thomas 47,48) 2. Another Influence of the Steam Engine was the lack of transportation. Before the Steam Engine transportation was limited to only a horse and carriage which moved very slowly. (Pursell, C.W.) Conclusion These influences of the steam engine helped make what America is today as a superpower and shaped our economy for the future. Although there were many other important figures and inventions that positively influenced America and the Civil War, the Steam Engine is still one of the most important ones. The Steam Engine evolved trade and transportation forever from switching the standard choice of transportation from a Horse and Carriage to a Locomotive that was capable of carrying many people. It also changed the way trade was looked at by decreasing the amount of time goods and supplies took to reach their destination. The transcontinental Rail Road made it possible for trade to be delivered promptly and efficiently. With the Locomotive, various types of goods could be transported even goods that needed to be refrigerated. With the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

World War Aviation Just as the locomotive made the world a smaller place in the nineteenth century, the airplane did the same for us in the twentieth century, shrinking our planet to the point that a person could fly anywhere in the world in a matter of hours. Not only have they made travel quick and safe, but aircraft provide many other services as well: from crop dusting and fighting forest fires to overnight delivery of packages and chasing hurricanes. Long voyages by ship are no longer a necessity to cross the world s oceans. Letters and packages arrive to distant destinations quickly and safely through air transport. Airplanes deliver supplies quickly to remote locations in emergency situations and restock military operations. Airplanes also improve medical care by quickly moving patients from rural areas to large medical centers and transporting organs to distant locations for transplants. In conclusion the airplane has shaped our culture immensely. It has changed the way we think. Today, if we want to go across an ocean, we would go by plane. Most people wouldn t even think of going by ship. If the airplane had not been invented, we would only think of sailing across the ocean. We also can visit more places and learn more about other cultures. The airplane has brought us closer together to people, friends, and family far away. It has also changed what we see as boundaries in the sense that we can travel to faraway places in a short time. A car ride that would take 6 hours, would only take about 1 hour and 20 minutes by airplane. Therefore in my opinion, the invention of the airplane is still today one of the greatest inventions to our society accomplished in the twentieth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Milky Way Introduction Our galaxy, The Milky Way, is composed of billion of stars of all ages, sizes and masses. A common stars, like our Sun, constantly gives out small amounts of X ray radiation, and larger burst of X rays during a solar flare. Along with our Sun, stars shine as a result of nuclear reaction that happens deep within their core. Causing chemical reactions that converts light elements into heavier ones and while releasing energy in the process. Energy from the central region provides pressure to keep the star from falling apart under its own weight. The contracting cloud is then called a protostar. A protostar is the earliest stage of a star s life. A star is born when the gas and dust from a nebula become so hot that nuclear fusion starts. Once a star has turned on it is known as a main sequence star. When a main sequence star begins to run out of hydrogen fuel, the star becomes a red giant or a red supergiant. The Birth of Star (Nebulas) All stars start as a nebula. Nebulas are large clouds of dust, hydrogen, helium and other ionized gases. Gravity then might pull the gas and dust in a nebula together. In example of this is the Orion Nebula, which was located in excellent detail by NASA s Hubble Space Telescope and Spitzer Space Telescope. A protostar is formed from the contracting clouds deep within these clouds that gives rise to knots with sufficient mass that the gas and dust can begin to collapse under its own gravitational attraction (NASA, para.4). This would be the task of the League of Nations. Woodrow Wilson was the creator of the League of Nations in his Fourteen Points Speech. The Divine Comedy was written during Dante s exile from his beloved city of Florence Italy. The work itself is read at various different levels. One could read it as a theological work, a political work, simply as a poetic work, or even as a philosophical work. In his work, Dante s Paradiso: No Human Beings Allowed philosophy professor Bruce Silver argues that, Dante is not a philosopher, instead he just deals with philosophical issues, including the relation between reasoning well and happiness. Dr. Jason Aleksander, the philosophy department chair at Saint Xavier s University, would disagree, stating, In short, for Dante, wisdom, the body of philosophy, results from the proper ordering of earthly desires or, in other words, from the order among the moral virtues. Aleksander sees Dante as a philosopher tackling philosophical issues and because he takes that stance he interprets Dante differently than Silver does. Though both see Dante s work as philosophical they take differing stances on certain points and actually tackle the work in two different ways. Silver makes concise arguments towards Dante trying to deal with the balance between reason and faith. He specifically talks about, the relation between reasoning well and happiness. Silver uses several different philosophers to prove his point, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Facing Your Writting Problems Facing Your Writing Problems Oliver J Shields Nordness University of North Dakota Facing Your Writing Problems John Edgar Wideman s Our Time a chapter from Brother and Keepers is a very interesting essay explaining the hardships of living in a place like Homeland back in the 50 s. Wideman tells his story through his mother, his brother Robby, and himself bringing up throughout the story the troubles he faces as a writer. Wideman faces the issue of keeping out his own bias as he listens to the stories of his family. Wideman also brings up his writing problems as he tells the story, as a way to let the reader know the exact process that he is going through as he listens to Robby and tries to remember the conversations with his mother. As Wideman begins his interview with his brother he questions to himself how he will be able to leave out his view of the story so that he does not turn the final story into a one that just explains how he perceived his brothers interview. Wideman relates the problems that he has communicating with Robby to his own writing; he is not sure how to face the whole situation of speaking with his brother about personal things. The relationship that they had growing up led them to this awkwardness, but Wideman faces these challenges and overcomes them by catching up on what was currently going on with the family. His writing reflects this because as he questions himself in this prose he seems to be unsure as to how he wants his story structured. Wideman is up front to his audience about his witting issues in this prose because I believe that he wants the reader to be able to relate. Due to this, the closest that a non Indigenous Australians will come to have contact with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person is through representation in the Australian media. Most media stories are viewed as one sided or racist with even the Prime Minster Tony Abbott making comments that it is a lifestyle choice for the Indigenous peoples to live the way that they do in small communities consisting of up to 8 people. Article B states that Tony Abbott does not understand Indigenous culture and how important land is to them Connection to country is everything to Aboriginal people defines Aboriginal people and sustains us in a cultural and spiritual sense and can play a vital role in building economic independence, self determination and healing (Greg Cromelin, Article B). With Article B the audience is encouraged to get angry at Tony Abbott s comments and make him out to be racist. Misrepresentation of Indigenous Australians in the media, as seen in the Courier Mail (Article A) and the Koori Mail (Article B), shows a different side of Tony Abbott s comments. Irony In Ballad Of Birmingham In the Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall, the story focuses around an African American girl who wants to go march in downtown Birmingham so that she in contributing to the protest for freedom. Her mother refuses to let her young girl go due to the horrible violence that it entitles. Instead of going to the march, the mother sends her innocent child to church instead thinking that she would be safer there than in Birmingham. What are the odds that her daughter died in church and not at the march? Nothing bad could happen, right? The single most key element that shapes the entire meaning on the poem is the irony in the situation that actually took place in 1963. Though she begged but, mother, I won t be alone, / other children will go with me (Randall 9 10), the girl s mother would not allow her child to be put in the face of danger. The freedom marches were anything but pleasant because like the mother says, I fear those guns will fire (Randall 14). • 22. Saint Michael Casting Satan Into Hell One of the art pieces that I have chosen is called Saint Michael Casting Satan into Hell created by Francesco Picano after a design by Lorenzo Vaccarno. This piece was made in 1705 in Italy (Naples) during the times of Italy s Renaissance movement. According to the article Brief History of Italy by Tim Lambert states that, The 18th century was an age of enlightenment when the power of the church was curtailed (sec 8). Which stating that during this time religion was highly focused in their works as a gateway for new ideas. This artwork is located at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art inside the Ahmanson building on the third floor, in the center of the exhibit under European art. The reason why I chose this piece is because this piece was interesting, how they represent the idea how it s represented in the stories that was focused in the work. As well as how it s place near the center so people can observe it from many different angles. This piece is a sculpture work that uses Polychromed wood and glass that were carved and molded into and it s at least two feet tall. • 23. Essay about The Central Part of Berkeley s Metaphysics The Central Part of Berkeley s Metaphysics The central part of Berkeley s metaphysics seems paradoxical or even absurd. Its claim is that what we call solid, and indeed everything else that we find laid out in the three dimensional physical word that is apparently around us, is only fictional. It appears to be there, but it does not really have an independent existence. The physical world is, according to Berkeley, dependent on and only perceived through a mental state. In Three Dialogues Between Hylas and Philonous, Berkeley tried to explain how a seemingly noncommonsensical theory can actually consist of commonsensical characteristics. Hence, none or these qualities exist outside the mind because we all see things differently. It is impossible, therefore, that matter be something existing in itself, objective, inert, and devoid of thought. According to Berkeley, when we say that a thing exists, we mean nothing more than that such a thing is merely perceived by us. Berkeley stated, To be is to be perceived. Berkeley s answer to the philosophical question, if there is no one in the forest when a tree falls, is there a sound, would be no because the forest cannot exist without a perceiver. Primary or secondary qualities, substances and impressions are nothing other than acts of perception, that is, mental facts; and their existence signifies their being perceived as mental acts. If I walk into a room containing a table, the table exists. However, when I leave the room, the table no longer exists. The Paradoxical problem arises when one asks, how is it then that when I return to the room, the table is still there? While denying the existence of a material world, Berkeley did not deny the existence of the world of spirits/minds. He believed that from the very presence of ideas and impressions, there had to existence finite spirits/minds, and because there had to be an origin of these ideas/impression, there had to exist a finite spirit/mind. • 25. Music On Greek Theatre And Religion Heather Day Dr. Proksch MULT 2340 November 28, 2016 Music in Greek Theatre and Religion Music was a large part of everyday life in Ancient Greece. The people thought of music as a gift from their gods, associating different instruments with specific gods. Their term for music was not limited strictly to vocal and instrumental melody, but referred to dance, lyrics, and even poetry reading. Music was brought into many facets of life for Ancient Greek citizens, from weddings and funerals, to banquets and religious festivals. Education and Drama were also parts of Ancient Greek life to which music was integral. Many of the instruments used in Ancient Greek music were thought to be created by the gods. The lyre by Hermes, the aulos by Athena, and the panpipes by Pan. The nine muses personified the various aspects of music in the broader sense of the term. Calliope represented epic poetry and rhetoric, Cleo s domain was history, Erato signified singing, Euterpe represented lyric poetry, Melpomene s significance was in singing tragedy, Polymnia s domain was hymns to the pantheon and to Greek heroes, Terpsichore delighted in dancing, Thalia signified comedy, and lastly Urania represented astronomy. The nine muses were born daughters of Zeus and the titan Mnemosyne after the two copulated for nine consecutive nights. Apollo led a chorus comprised of the nine muses, and they are often associated with him. The auloi were primarily used in worship of Dionysos, the Greek god of wine, ... It is stated that Alice knows logically there is nothing to fear, since both the Queen and the royal prosecution are simply a stack of playing cards, yet she does indeed feel frightened in The Queens presence. This is precisely what happens to the titular Frankenstein in Mary Shelley s novel. What begins as a journey for knowledge soon turns into tragedy as the creation of Victor s monster leads to the deaths of everyone he is close to. Knowledge is not always worth its cost, as evidenced by Victor s downward spiral towards monstrosity, the creature s dissatisfaction and hatred with his own life, and Robert Walton s wasted expedition to the Arctic. Ever since his youth, Victor has been fascinated by the sciences and nature. This curiosity is what drives him to attend a University in Ingolstadt, away from his family and loved ones. His best friend, Henry Clerval, attends school alongside Victor but is promptly neglected by Victor in favor of his studies. After his mother s untimely death, Victor begins to shift his focuses towards reanimating a human corpse, which at first glance seems both impossible and unethical. Both of his professors explain to Victor that his idea is impossible and he s wasting his time, but this only fuels the fire burning inside him.
