The Origins Of The World
Viking, the word conjures up images of well built men with long hair and braided beards wearing firs
and horned helmets, holding axes and shields, ready to battle so they can return home to consume
bountiful feasts. The word brings to mind fanciful stories like Beowulf where these very same men
fight beasts after a night of stuffing their gullets and consuming large amounts of mead. There are so
many stories about these warriors that many of them have become legendary individuals, but there is
so little information about the people who provided the food to keep the so powered up, the people
who provided the nourishment for the rest of their community while the warriors plundered and
defended their honor. There is little known about the farmers. There is even less known about these
unsung heroes around the time that Christianity took over the Norse culture. A group of researchers
that took part in a study in Skagafjörður Iceland was determined to change that. Iceland has some of
the richest Viking history, next to The Netherlands, so the fact that the people living there would want
a more in depth history makes sense. Murphy and Zoëga took a special interest in a small site in the
project, to see how the common non warrior Viking lived their lives. They wanted to know more about
the people history forgot to mention, to breathe the life back into the people who time almost forgot,
the people whose story did not get told, the people Viking warriors would have not even existed

Foreign Direct Investment Into Pakistan
Title:
Causes of Foreign direct investment into Pakistan.
Aim and objectives:
The dissertation topic will focus on the importance of foreign direct investment into Pakistan s
Economy and will also focus around the causes of foreign direct investment. The report will look into
three different perspectives such as, the effects on FDI pre and post 9/11, investment in different
sectors of industry and the importance of investing countries in terms of contributing towards
developing Pakistan s infrastructure or helping financially to fight the War against terror . Moreover,
the report also provides an insight to what can be done to improve the inflow of FDI into Pakistan.
Background of Pakistan s economy and FDI: Since the independence in 1947 the economy of Pakistan
has emerged as a semi industrialized economy and is mainly based on textile, agriculture and food
production. The textile industry contributes around 9% to the country s gross domestic product
(khurram baig, 2013). However, since the start of 2008 the country as a whole has struggled to gain
the confidence of many foreign and local investors due to instability and security concerns and the
country is struggling to gain back the confidence ever since. Although, after 2012 an increase in the
FDI was seen due to improvement in the tertiary sector, this was n mainly due to an increase in
spending power and confidence shown by the local consumers (The World Bank).
Foreign direct investment refers to long term

Write An Essay On Isaac s Storm
It was Saturday, Sept. 8, 1900, and never had Buford T. Morris seen such a beautiful daybreak: The
sky seemed to be made of mother of pearl; gloriously pink, yet containing a fish scale effect which
reflected all the colors of the rainbow. Within hours, however, this glorious first light in Galveston,
Texas, would be transformed into disaster of unimaginable proportionsÐone that would devastate
the seaside town and claim the lives of an estimated 8,000 people as a deadly hurricane blew in from
the Gulf of Mexico.
It was, in a sense, Isaac Cline s storm the man stationed in Galveston for the new U.S. Weather
Bureau. Author Erik Larson, who researched survivors accounts, tells of the hurricane in his new
book, Isaac s Storm: A Man, a Time, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
St. Mary s Orphanage and nearly all of its 93 children were swept away including young charges
tethered in groups by clothesline in the nuns ill fated attempt to save their lives. Houses floated down
streets, becoming battering rams as water from the nearby bay and from the Gulf of Mexico converged
on the town, rising well above 30 feet in depth and above the rooftops of many two story homes.
Dr. S.O. Young, a Cline acquaintance, was drawn by the sheer power of the storm as it assailed his
home. Opening the door to a second floor gallery, he hauled himself outside and was immediately
pinned to the exterior wall by 125 mph winds. He remained there, agape, as he surveyed the unfolding
drama.
Waves swept through Young s neighborhood, writes Larson, propelling huge pieces of wreckage.
Within minutes, the only other house still standing began a slow pirouette, rose like a huge steamboat .
. . and suddenly disappeared with the occupants, a family of four, still inside. My feelings were
indescribable as I saw them go, Young later recounted.
Finally, the rescuers came. As many as 500 dead, some were told. Seasoned reporters accustomed to
hearing exaggerated claims soon learned that, in fact, this report of the death toll was a vast

was already on the side of maturity stage with declining growth.
The simple motive of the merger was to take advantages of each other s distribution networks global
supplier base, thereby saving costs thanks to high volumes. Daimler Benz could gain access to
Chrysler s distribution networks in North America, while Chrysler could reach out to Europe market
thanks to Daimler Benz s networks. Goldman Sachs was just brought in to make the deal happen.
In addition, equal status of both parties in the merger, as Schrempp said, did not exist, and the promise

Moreover, Daimler Benz s and Chrysler s brand images were completely opposite, which makes them
lose their own intrinsic value if they would merge together. Again, the clash in cultures and values
took them apart and a harmony within the new company seemed to be impossible.
In addition, with the purpose of protecting sales of Daimler s luxury and uncompromising quality
products like Mercedes, some core vehicles of Chrysler, such as Dodge Neon and the Jeep Grand
Cherokee, were sidelined in favor of Daimler s products. Apparently, Chrysler s products are always
within cost control, while Daimler Benz s vehicles are less cost effective. Merging with Daimler Benz,
Chrysler hadn t earned as many benefits as expected, but already faced a severe internal competition
which harmed it business not only in the US market, but also hindered Chrysler s plan of expansion in
Europe.
Practically, from Chrysler s point of view, instead of benefiting from synergy savings and instead of
promoting its brand in new market, the merger with Daimler Benz actually put Chrysler into a bigger

25 Essential Habits
25 Essential Habits that Parents must Teach their Kids
Every parent wants the best for their children. They want the children to grow and become the best
version of themselves. But, all this starts with the habits you teach them. Encouraging your child to
behave in a certain way again and again, helps to make it a habit of the child. So, it is important to
start early and instill these good habits in your children which they will carry with them throughout
their lives.
Healthy Lifestyle: This is the first thing the parents much encourage their children to follow. This can
start as soon as you wean your baby from breastfeeding by starting with vegetable purees, avoiding
introducing children to extra sugar and fried food and sticking to healthier alternatives. Starting early
will not only acquaint baby s taste buds to healthy food but will also make it a ... Show more content

But it is important to teach them the value of learning and education. It is important to make them
realize how valuable education is to become a successful and responsible human being.
Table Manners: Having bad table manners are insulting not just for people around but also for the food
that has been prepared and offered to them. When the child knows table manners, they minimize their
chance of offending and maximizes the chance of impressing in social situations. This starts as early
as 6 months when children are made to sit on the high chair. As they sit on the high chair and see
people around them eating on a plate with a spoon, they will also pick up similar habits. This will also
discipline them and avoid them being turned into fussy eaters.
Being Polite: Basic things such as being respectful towards other and importance of the words thank
you, please, and sorry should be taught to kids from the beginning. Not only are these a mark of good
upbringing but also earns the child love and respect from those around

The Impact of Acronyms Use in Facebook on Language
Based on the observations and results that I gathered for 2 weeks, I found out that most of my
participant who uses Facebook daily uses acronym to update their status, provide feedback or
comment, chatting with other users, to give out information or to post personal details through
Facebook. For my research, I found out 5 most common acronyms used by my participants which are
BT, FYI, TQ, BTW, and FB. When asked about this, my sample gives out different opinion and reason
on why they tend to use this acronym when using Facebook.
In my view, they use acronym to shorten the sentence when they update their status in Facebook via
Facebook mobile as well as to reduce the time taken to type the full sentence. When asked about
whether using acronym limited the use and application of languages, they did not think about it at all.
For example, Mr. K from Evidence 4 stated that he does not care about language when he update his
status or chat with his friend in Facebook. For him, he only cares about using correct form of language
when he was in a formal environment, as an example, speaking to his English lecturer.
Moving on, from the findings or results that I have gathered, I place my focus on only 5 acronyms in
order to narrow my observation. However, I will discuss the 5 acronyms more in the view of semantic.
Semantically, all five acronyms mentioned in my research have different meaning. As I set my
observation throughout the 2 weeks period of time, I place my studies of

Gram Staining Lab Report
This week in Lab 3 we will be discussing and practicing simple and gram stains. Staining is the
process of making bacteria visible to isolate and experiment with. Staining helps to show the bacteria
in a color so it is no longer clear by increasing the contrast of the specific organism. Staining is used in
the medical field not just to look at bacteria and cultures but also for diagnostic purposes. It can be
used to highlight certain tissues and even specific parts within a tissue. There are many different types
of staining, including: Acid fast staining ( Ziehl Neelson Technique), Acridine orange stain, Auramine
Rhodamine technique, Calcofluor white stain, Capsule stain, Cytoplasmic inclusion stain, Endospore
stain, Giemsa stain, Flagilla ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The smear concentration will directly affect the gram results by making a false positive or false
negative gram positive stain. Take the slide smears and put them in crystal violet solution for one
minute. Rinse all of the stain off with water. After all the water has been removed from the slide, place
it in the mordant which is Grams iodine solution. A mordant is an inorganic oxide that chemically
reacts with the dye and affixes to the cell. Rinse the solution off with water the same way we did
before and then place the slide in a decolorizing agent for 10 12 seconds. As not to wait for a long
time, rinse this off with water as well. Waiting to wash the decolorizing solution off will clear all the
dye of off the previously dyed cells. Put the slide in the counter stain safranin for one minute and rinse
with water. Place the slide on bibulous paper and wipe an access water of the slide being careful not to
disrupt the bacterial culture. Now that the slide is done, put it under the microscope with an oil
immersion to view under 100x magnification. Gram positive bacteria is blue or purple and gram
negative bacteria is red or

Physical And Economic Effects Of A Tsunami Causes And Its...
What is a Tsunami?
Tsunamis are dangerous and unpredictable, but what are they? A tsunami is a series of waves
generated by disturbances in the body of water. The waves of a tsunami can reach up to 100 feet, and
travel at an average speed of 500 miles per hour, or 805 kilometers an hour.
Causes
Tsunamis can be caused by several different things, including earthquakes, which cause shoves from
the land, pushing the tsunami forward. They can also be caused by landslides, which can happen
underwater. The sudden movement displaces enough water to start a tsunami. Volcanic eruptions also
cause tsunamis to form, as when they collapse, it displaces the water as well as shaking the ground.
Effects
Tsunamis have horrible physical and economic effects on the places they appear. The waves move fast
enough to cause serious damage to the surrounding area, and the force is strong enough to even rip
buildings from their foundations. They have the ability to uproot trees, destroy crops and natural
habitats, and often result in the deaths of citizens due to drowning, or being crushed by debris. The
Tsunamis also contaminate water sources, and cause damages to critical places, such as nuclear plants.
The government is also held responsible for repairing the damages, which may cost years and even
billions of dollars. It can also cause a well kept area to become dirty and cluttered with litter, and the
efforts to return it back to its former state may cost more than a country is willing to

Hollywood Studio System Essay
What was the role of the Hollywood Studio System in creating and promoting stars?
The Studio System A model of industrial organisation in the film industry from about 1915 1946,
characterised by the development of major and minor studios that produced, distributed and exhibited
films and held film actors, directors, art directors and other directors under contract (1 Page 456 7)
The Golden Age was certainly golden for the biggest film studios in Hollywood, these studios include
Paramount (1916), Warner Bros (1919), RKO (1928), Fox (1915) and M.G.M (1924), or as they were
best known, The Big Five . It was these five studios that created the Studio System, a system that gave

System through three outside shocks. They were, The decrease in demand caused by the decline in
incomes during the Great Depression, 1938 s court case against the Big Five and the Second World
War (5 Page 22) However, the main issue on why the Studio System fell apart was the fact that the Big
Five were sued for use of Blind Bidding when selling their films to theatres. In short of what they say
on www.cybercollege.com, in 1938, the U.S Supreme Court had decided that these studios represented
a monopoly and ordered for the case to be opened. Two years after the case was opened against them,
they denied any monopolistic practises and agreed to stop buying theatres, eliminate blind bidding and
limit these biddings to only five films, but they didn t do what they said they would. Four years after,
the Big five still had control over the motion picture industry. An antitrust was launched against them
and instead of saying they would change their blind bidding or stopping the theatres ownership, they
were forced to diverse themselves of both the Big Five and also from the theatres they owned. (6)
Thus the end of the Studio System reign was

Having Friends In Its A Wonderful Life
As this website once advised, if you want to feel rich, just count all the gifts you have that money can t

because it shows that having family and friends are something you can t buy and you need. For
instance, George having uncle Billy to guide him with Peter Bailey s business, George s dad,
throughout the movie, such as in staying later in order for George can go spend precious time with his

Suddenly, Clarence appears out of the no where in order to save him from jumping into the ocean and
committing suicide. If it wasn t for Clarence, everyone who lived in the town and that George loved,
their lives would had turn completely around. Even though, Clarence was George s guardian angel, he
didn t need to thourgh himself overboard he could had talked to him. This shows how having friends

Balanced Scorecard Case Study
The Impact of using Balanced Scorecard on Strategic Performance of Small and Medium Enterprises
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE This research paper describes an overview of the theoretical
background of the Balanced Scorecard as well as describing the historical foundation and the
development of its theories. A company s success will have a correlation with its strategy. However, if
an organization cannot implement and cascade its strategy throughout the company, they may
experience a low rate of success and may fail eventually. The strategy of a company is often aligned to
the mission, vision and core values of an organization along with a well thought out plan that will give

Kaplan and David P. Norton stated that the balanced scorecard is defined as the translation of an
organization s mission and strategy into a comprehensive set of performance measures that provides
the framework for a strategic measurement and management system. (Kaplan, R.S. and Norton, D.P.
1996) In the beginning of the introduction of the balance scorecard, the Activity Based Costing or the
ABC Approach was introduced by Johnson and Kaplan. Because of this, the organizations were able
to move organizations away from the financially biased measurement to a more balanced approach
that are related to the four perspectives of an organization s success which are the financial, customer,
internal processes and learning and growth. To make the balance scorecard accurate, the
organizational management team in lines the mission, vision, and strategy of the company into the
scorecard. This depicts the long term and short term success of the strategy. The outcome measures of
the balanced scorecard must represent the excellent prior performance and the performance drivers
that lead to the successful and accurate performance. (Kaplan, R. S. and Norton, D. P.

Frederik Schiller s Letters On The Aesthetic Education Of Man
The role of art in human life has been studied by several philosophers throughout time. Frederik
Schiller (1795 1805), in his Letters On the Aesthetic Education of Man develops the theory of the
drives to explain the fragmentation of the human being and places art in a reconciliatory role between
man s personal nature and the community. The present essay will discuss in some detail Schiller s
theory of the drives, placing the main focus on the role and importance of the play drive in human life,
to finally discuss the features in Schiller s theory of play that help elucidate the role of art in human
life.
According to Schiller, men in modern society experiment a conflict between the cultivation of
individual talent and the welfare of their community as a single being. This conflict results in an
alienation of the being and its consequent fragmentation. Taking this into account, Schiller states there
are two aspects of human nature to be considered: the sense drive and the form drive. The sense, or
sensuous drive, is born from man s physical existence, and thrives to achieve constant change of
matter within a limit of time (finite). It is man s most primitive state . On the other hand, the form
drive, born from man s rational nature, thrives to free man and maintain his person despite all the
changes of his condition overlooking a limited time frame (infinite).
This duality of human nature brings forth an imbalance in man s nature when one of the senses
overpowers the

Figurative Language In The Great Influenza By John M Barry
Science is taking a step out to discover new things, to build new testable explanations. To design new
products that could be beneficial to humans, it not only takes risks, but it could cost you a job. Many
occupations do not compare because they lack the feeling of heroism, affection and inquiry. In The
Great Influenza , John M Barry is describing how a scientist must function and the techniques that
they use to complete their research. Through his diction, allusions and figurative language he better
illustrates the work of scientist as demanding and to persuade the reader to accept his view on
scientific research. One rhetorical method that Barry implements is allusions. He helps to engage the
reader and keep his argument more cogent. For instance, his literary allusion in line 31 through the
looking glass is a reference back to Alice in Wonderland. The remark suggests that youre going into a
world that feels utterly fraudulent. While in this alternate universe nothing at all can be perceived true
and you are in a situation to be quarrelsome. His other implication of ... Show more content on

may break apart upon the sharp edge of a single laboratory finding. This metaphor addresses the fact
that while undergoing experience any findings can make or break your research. Discovering new
things is very scarce and sometimes requires tons of probable solutions. In the end you could find

Animal Testing Is Bad Science
Animals very rarely serve as models for the human body. Many people are brought up with the idea
that animal experimentation is necessary to insure the safety of humans, but in reality, these
experiments are creating only harm to animals. Animals have done nothing to deserve this backlash,
and by educating the public on the true unsuccessfulness of animal testing, the ethical side is forced
out in the open. The argument Animal Testing is Bad Science by the People for The Ethical Treatment
of Animals (PETA), argues that ethics dictate the value of each life, and that no life is overthrown by
another. This well formulated argument effectively integrates ethos, logos, powerful structure, and
robust premises to persuade the audience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All premises given are paired with explicit claims to express proposals such as, no experiment, no
matter how painful or trivial is prohibited and reactions to drugs vary enormously from species to
species (PETA, 2015). By following the line of logic, the claim is already known.
Ethos
Through the use of credible and reliable sources, PETA s argument builds validity. The author
recounts President Richard Nixon sign[ing] the Conquest of Cancer Act in 1971 (PETA, 2015) to
introduce that any money raised for cancer is not stopping hundreds of thousands dying from it each
year, and that animals contributed as test objects for these newfound drugs are not suddenly going to
cure cancer. Since an American president is mentioned, the audience will trust the upcoming evidence.
Furthermore, the author establishes ethos with well known acts and dependable doctors. Referencing
the 40 percent of all research funding from the U.S. National Institute of Health and organizations like
the American Board of Anesthesiologists [whom] even require physicians to complete simulation
training not animal laboratories (PETA 2015). The first reference represents the billions of dollars
swallowed by animal experimentation funds. Citing information from the U.S. Institute of Health
notes the continued spending, even with countless failed experiments. Ethos is held by the author due

The Theory Of Plate Tectonics And Continental Drift
The concept of plate tectonics is that the lithosphere, which is the higher layers of the Earth s surface,
is separated into a number of plates that float independently over the mantle and along the boundaries
that initiate the development of new crust, the building of mountains, and the seismic movement that
triggers earthquakes (Geosystems 340). Scientists have discovered that the landforms and geographic
regions we know and live on today were formed when plate tectonics shift and create movement on
the Earth, forming many land structures. In 1977 two scientists created the most elaborate and detailed
picture of the earth that has ever been designed, called the Tharp Heezen map of the seafloor (National
Geographic, PT). Because of this map, the theory of plate tectonics and continental drift was accepted
widely across the world and still known today.
A German geophysicist, Alfred Wegener, presented an idea in his book Origin of the Continents and
Oceans, evoking the topic of continental drift, which is the gradual movement of the continents across
the earth s surface through geological time. He named the large supercontinent Pangaea , meaning all
Earth (Geosystems 340). The two types of tectonic plates are the oceanic and continental plates. The
plate s shift and slide over the asthenosphere, the molten upper portion of the mantle. The two types of
plates meet at the boundaries that cross our planet and since 71% of the earth covered in water the

According to Ronnie Cummings of In Motion Magazine, after several dozen consumers in Colorado

Nurses played an important role during the war and nursing soon became a profession rather than just
volunteer work. In 2002, The World Health Organization announced declining numbers of nurses and
brought attention that this issue needs assistance to prevent negative outcomes affecting patients
directly. Later that year, the WHO went on to publish Strategic directions for strengthening nursing
and midwifery services, which provided a framework of five key result areas to guide Member States
in enhancing their support of nurses and midwives (World Health Organization, 2010). The World
Health Organization addressed the issue of declining numbers or nurses at the beginning of the

to the after effects of the great world wars, which was one of the main motive for the Governments in

The relationship with the community, groups with special interests, and also politics may play a great
portion in the configuration of these changes. Several centuries ago, common law was divided into
three special classifications: felony, treason, and misdemeanor. In those times felonies were
punishable by death. During the seventeenth century, when a police officer was conducting an arrest,
they were regulated to exercising deadly force as a last resort (Littlejohn, 1984). During the nineteenth
century, the same rule was still being enforced. The last resort rule began to diminish towards the end
of the nineteenth century. Currently police officers have other tools available that allows them to resort
to under different circumstances. Even though there are many different police departments and
different agencies, they are all pretty much guided under the same rules regarding deadly force and it s
use.
Annually, data concerning law enforcement is collected in a Uniform Crime Report, but it does not
gather information on recent acts a police officer can do (Burghart, 2014). Limited intelligence is
exposed about police violence. There are many real life situations that we have observed on the news
and in the media. The law demands that the federal government must accumulate data on police
shootings, but there is no obligation that a police department has to do so (Fisher, 2014). The

A Difficult Challenge For Caregivers Of Young Children...
Facing a difficult challenge for caregivers of young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) isn
t easy, yet it s hard due to the fact of deciding on the proper treatment plan for the child. Programs
emphasizing usage of structured settings, tight stimulus control, and adult directed instruction are
labeled as current evidence that supports the early educational interventions which is based on the
developmental and applied behavioral analytic principles leading to the models that focus on
opportunities of naturalistic delivery of learning within child led routines. Nevertheless, calibration

approaches to be variable. Limitation is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Testing the effect of every possible combination of evidence based interventions and every possible
factor that might be related to outcomes is logistically unfeasible. Therefore, a research program
informed by theory driven hypotheses is crucial for facilitating a rational use of research resources in
these areas (Vivanti, 2017, p.114 115). The ASD is an early intervention field due to having a relevant
obstacle in the research agenda at a pre paradigmatic stage (Kuhn, 1962) which is a stage where
practices are informed by competing meta theoretical orientations (e.g., behavioral theory, cognitive
theory, and developmental theory) operate in consonance with disparate vocabularies and criteria used
for appraising evidence (Ingersoll, 2010; Smith, 2014). Different treatments of individualization and
combination have to generate testable prognosis, current frameworks of pre paradigmatic should be
developed into full fledged scientific theories which utilize parameters and constraints to formulate
treatment targets and therapeutic change of hypothesized nature. In this research, the hypothesis of
treatment used will oblige the reformulation of rationales treatment in four sets of explicit terms of
explanatory/predictive statements which are (1) logical coherence, (2) falsifiability, (3)

In conclusion, Bristol Omnifacts feels performance appraisal is very important to its workplace.
However, its use for feedback is altered from most workplaces given the nature of its industry. The
performance appraisal system seems to be running smoothly enough for the company. However, it
appears the company may be in denial of some factors that could be improved. Such as problem
solving, past oriented/future performance appraisal balance and rater s biases. Bristol Omnifacts
should firstly, consider applying the problem solving approach more effectively so that employees
know what targets to work on. They should also 1) implement self appraisals and the 360 degree
method so that there is a balance between past oriented and future methods and 2) rotate supervisors
who conduct the evaluation interviews so that rater s biases can be reduced. 1.0 Introduction 1.1
Purpose The purpose of this report is to determine the most commonly used performance appraisal
systems, to examine those used at Bristol Omnifacts Research and to recommend changes which
would benefit the company. 1.2 Background Performance appraisal is a process dealt with by many, if
not all, human resource specialists, where by evaluations are conducted on employees and their job
performance. This is fulfilled by identifying the performance related criteria, measuring

A Brief Note On Atherosclerosis And Coronary Spasms
1. Ms. T sought medical attention mainly because of intolerable chest pain after climbing several
flights of stairs; however, Ms. T has a history of conditions such as atherosclerosis and coronary
spasms. Atherosclerosis is the buildup of fatty material known as plaque, along the walls of arteries
causing the arteries to narrow (Taber s pg 224). Therefore, angina pectoris can result with exertion.
Also, coronary spasms can potentially be caused by plaque buildup and can occur in people who have
high cholesterol such as Ms. T. Also, coronary spasms are known to cause angina pectoris in people
(Taber s pg 2171). Ms. T s history of these conditions explains why she experiences episodes of
angina.

The Life and Work of Ernest Rughterford
All science is either physics or stamp collecting . Ernest Rutherford was born on August 30th in 1871
with an umbilical hernia(that later killed him). He was the fourth child of twelve and the second son of
seven boys and five girls. He started school when he was ten because his family was so poor. Later he
got into good schools and became a great teacher. He won multiple awards for his chemistry
experiments because he was the first person to artificially break an element. I chose Ernest Rutherford
because he found out lots of things about science and he is a very interesting man. He found out that
atoms are not independent; they are controlled by something else, a nucleus. Also he split an atom in
1917 discovering that atoms are made up of more than one part. The element Rutherfordium was
named in his honor. Since money was tight, Rutherford found good ways of overcoming his family s
money challenges, By making family friendly inventions. At the age of ten, Rutherford was handed
his first science book at Fox Hill School. It was a great experience for Rutherford, that the book
inspired his very first scientific experiment. The young Rutherford built a miniature cannon, which, to
his family s surprise, unexpectedly exploded. After the result, Rutherford s interest in academics
remained weak.
When Ernest was growing up in New Zealand his family was very poor. His father, James, was
struggling to support the big family on a flax miller salary. He was also a

The Test That Will Be Uses
Selection of test
The test that will be uses is a one way ANOVA test. A one way ANOVA test involved the analysis of
the difference between means of three or more groups and the variance within the groups (Salkind,
2013). The research scenario is looking at the difference between three groups which are individuals
who cannot to identify hypertension lifestyle factors, can identify some hypertension lifestyle factors
and can identify all hypertension lifestyle factors and their willingness to engage in self care in
addition to the variance within the groups. In addition, in a one way ANOVA there is one factor or
independent variable and within the research scenario there is one factor which is identifying
hypertension lifestyle factors (Salkind, 2013).
Step 2: Level of significance
The research scenario does not pose a high risk to the participants involved, therefore the level of
significance will bet set to 0.05. A level of significance at 0.05 means that the researcher has accepted
5 cases out of 100 for committing a type I error of rejecting the null when it is true and accepting the
research hypothesis (Salkind, 2013). The remaining 95 cases out of 100 a true null hypothesis is
accepted (Salkind, 2013).
Step 3: Selection of one tailed or two tailed test
An ANOVA test strictly looks at the overall difference between the means of groups and the variance
within groups, ANOVA test does not tell you where the difference lies, therefore there is no direction

Pros And Cons Of Sina Weibo
INTRODUCTION
Sina Weibo (hereinafter referred as Weibo) is a microblog in China that is akin to a hybrid of Twitter
and Facebook . It is one of the most popular social media platform is China which has 600 million
registered users in 2013 and 76.6 million daily users in 2014 . The vast number of users allows faster
and easier communication and information spreading, which then creates social benefits which
traditional media did not offer (Chang, 2013). Weibo has formed a lively virtual public space
(Magistad, 2012) where Chinese citizens communicate and which is a main source of immediate
news.
This essay explores the influences of Weibo on both international and local scale, as well as the link

They use Weibo to post their social concerns and comment about government policies. Consistent
friction exists between the government and the citizens over sensitive topics. The government
aggressively steps in only when it considers the issue to be potential for social instability. In addition,
the Chinese are more conservative in terms of going against the government as they do not want to
risk themselves. Therefore, Weibo is used as a platform for Chinese citizens to give pressure on the
government in hope for better and more transparent governance. Physical social movements are less
likely to happen because of government censorship and the individual s less willing to take risk
attitude. However, the government should not take this for granted. Consistent suppressing of public
voices may harm the government as public anger may eventually burst into uncontrollable outrage.
Thus, the government has to cooperate with the Chinese citizens through Weibo as their resentment

Endangered Species Act Of 1973 Essay
Endangered Species Act of 1973 The Endangered Species Act of 1973 is an environmental policy that
is currently having problems with timely implementation of its policies. The current issue interfering
with the ability of this policy to perform to the best of its ability is the government s reaction time. The
government has been sluggish in reacting to the different species when they become endangered. This
may in part be due to interference from lobbyists who may not always be acting in the best interest of
the species they claim to be lobbying for. The Endangered Species Act of 1973 was created to protect
individual plant and animal species as well as their ecosystems. The act creates two separate groups:
the endangered species and the threatened species categories. Endangered species are species that are
close to extinction and threatened species are those that have a potential to move onto the endangered
list. The Endangered Species Act does not account for how quickly any species can become
endangered or extinct if it is not placed on one of the lists and nothing is done to protect it. This is
compounded by the assertion that lobbyists also have an undue influence on which species are put on
or removed from the endangered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of those groups act altruistically and some are influenced by monetary factors. For example,
Shell Oil has a lobbying group that has interfaced with the Fish and Wildlife Commission. It is
reasonable to assume that Shell s interests are in keeping spaces available for oil and gas production
and might be counter productive to the survival of a given species if it interfered with that production.
Ducks Unlimited, on the other hand, would be viewed as lobbying in favor of the survival of a given
species of migratory

Howard Zinn Critique
A People s History of the United States written by Howard Zinn is exactly what the title says, from a
socialist point of view. Written like Zinn has done his research, he makes an arguable case on the
United States history from his standpoint. Viewing the United States history from a new perspective is
the goal of this book, one not everyone will enjoy. Zinn is rather harsh on some figures and eras in the
United States history, such as slavery, Native Americans, and corporations. Overall I d say the book
has a very depressing tone that makes you really question our country s actions. Open mindedness is
the key to enjoying this book while reading, with Zinn being anti government and with myself only
ever being taught out of government funded textbooks there some collision to beliefs.
Writing a book with an uncommonly taught perspective, Zinn tried to verify his take on U.S history.
There are inserts from various documents, such as diaries, ledgers, and newspapers used as supporting
documents to his claim, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Was World War II the people s war, or the manufacturer s? That s the question Zinn bases this chapter
on. Bringing in facts about the U.S entering multiple countries and intervening before the U.S
declared war, he challenges the motivation behind U.S involvement in the war. One of these
intervening being Vladivostok, Russia, with seven thousand troops, offsetting the effects of the
Bolshevik revolution in Russia as told by the U.S state department. Zinn conveys it as we didn t enter
the war as a concern for the people fighting it or being hurt by the Nazi party, any more than how we
didn t enter the Civil War off the number of enslaved blacks. Rather, we entered because of the
Japanese bombing and Roosevelt lied about it being the right cause. Challenging the reader, Zinn
makes him or her ask themselves if we really are such a self centered country and leaves it to them to
find the answer that

A Character Analysis Of Randle Patrick Mcmurphy
Randle Patrick McMurphy is shown to be a flawed character because of his huge ego, making him a
lecherous gambler high on his own arrogance, and his desire and hunger for power and control. He
thinks he can win any gamble, including a gamble on his life. The stakes are that he bets the men that
he can break Nurse Ratched without letting her get the best of him. Even when he enters the ward,
McMurphy has that kind of swagger kind of walk and he laughs, something that has not been done by
any of the patients on the ward. He is full of brass and swagger and full of assurance and arrogance
with his hanging thumbs in the belt loop of his pants, his heavily scarred skin, his many tattoos, and
his fresh scar on the bridge of his nose (95). After being sent to Disturbed, McMurphy was confronted
with the decision to admit he was wrong and avoid electroshock therapy, to which he responded to the
nurse saying, Those Chinese Commies could have learned a few things from you, lady. Due to this
high arrogance in his confidence, McMurphy received electroshock therapy along with three other
treatments that same very week. This all led up to the major consequence of lobotomy, in which
McMurphy was essentially made a vegetable, to be nothing more than a cautionary tale on Nurse
Ratched s ward.
This powerful and confident character challenges the power of Ratched over the patients in the ward
only to defy her law on the ward. The idea that nothing is gained by McMurphy s rebellion is

One of Ours by Willa Cather
Margaret Elliot is beautiful, talented, critical, unsatisfied, tired of the world at twenty four (Great
Short Works, 8). Engaged to a man she has no feelings for, life feels bleak and without purpose. She
feels true love once with Eric, but just for a moment. For her whole life, Margaret had searched the
faces of men for the look that lay in his eyes. She knew that look had never shone before, would never
shine for her on earth again, that such love comes to one only in dreams or in impossible places like
this, unattainable always. This was Love s self, and in a moment it would die (Great Short Works, 29).
For Willa Cather this is how love exists. Happy relationships are plentiful, but the enchanted, all
encapsulating love of dreams only exists in glances. For Eric this glance is enough. He does not regret
his decision or the damnation he is sure it will cause. For him a day shall be as a thousand years, and a
thousand years as a day as his love lives on.
In most cases, however love is not enough. Both Margaret and Claude, the protagonist of Cather s
novel One of Ours feel this shimmer of love, but in the end must search for meaning elsewhere. Set in
a small Nebraska farm town, One of Ours opens several years before the start of the First World War.
Claude is unsatisfied with his simple life in the fields, and possesses an idealistic, romantic outlook
that propels him to search for meaning on a much different field in Europe. For Claude, who wants

Validity Of The Fama French Three Factor Model

Validity of the Fama French Three Factor Model in China during 2011 2015

Abstract
This paper mainly explores the validity of the Fama French Three Factors model during 2011 2015 by
using 30 stocks which is from A share stock market in China, in contrast to the results of Fama and
French (1993) in U.S, there are some differences. Market risk premium has a significant in Chinese
stock market, but for the factors SMB and HML, both of them are not as significant as the United
States, but it still has a little marginal return. Meanwhile, we use Capital Assets Pricing Model to

To maximizing the interest of the investment, it depends on the information capture capability of
investors in the stock market. Most investors in China start their investments without enough
knowledge about the operating of stock market. They just follow what the most people do. If things
continue in this way, economic bubble may occur. Therefore, it is particularly important for investors
to get a general knowledge about the core of stock market.
Over the past few decades, economists were continually developing a variety of asset pricing models.
The first and the most important model is called Capital Assets Pricing Model, which was developed
by William Sharpe, John Lintner and Jack Treynor (1964). It is based on the theory of composition
and capitalization, which discussed the expected return and the relationship between risky assets in
stock market. And now, Capital Asset Pricing Models becomes the pillar of multiple asset pricing
models, and widely use in investment.
However, since the 1970s, foreign economists began to do a lot of empirical research, specially in
American capital market, which is able to provide a mature financial environment for the Capital
Asset Pricing Model. Nevertheless, in 1980, there have been lots of negative verification results,
economists started to discuss the Capital Asset Pricing Model, sometimes, it can not reasonably
explain in stock market. In 1992, Fama and French (1992) considered

Native American Cultures And Development Of Native Americans
Native American populations in the 1490 s cary from 50 to 100 million people. Spread throughout the
America s, the natives adapted and shaped their ways of life according to their environment and their
surroundings. For example, the southwest settlements such as the Pueblos depended on irrigation
systems living in large numbers, where the settlements in the Great Plains region, lived a nomadic
lifestyle being dependent on buffalo as their life source. In essence, the environment where the Native
population settled led to diversity among the tribes because each tribe had to adapt to their unique
environment in order to survive. The southwest settements lived a stationary life, where those in the
Great Plains migrated as they followed their cattle. Additionally, not only did their environment vary,
their language also differed. American Indian languages consisted of more then 20 language families
including 400 distinct languages. Due to this, the ability to comminicate lacked leading to varied
beliefs, customs, cultures and development of ways of life.
Although both Spain and England conquered and settled in areas located in America, their colonies
differed. To illustrate, the English settled in areas without large native empires unlike the Spanish.
Because of this difference, the English were unable to to use natives as a controllable workforce as the
Spanish did. The Spanish used an economic system called encomienda system that relied on the use of
slavery. Additionally,

Kristallnacht
The Night of Shimmering Glass Kristallnacht, Night of Crystal, was a turning point between Germany
and the rest of the world. On November 9th, 1938, an uprising against the Jewish residents of
Germany and Austria occurred. This attack against the Jewish was referred to as a pogrom.
Kristallnacht was the first marked nationwide action against religion. The Nazi regime and their wish
to implement Nuremberg s laws helped push start the process of degrading Jews to an inferior level in
life by giving reason to start the riot. The accumulation of events and new laws leading to

1938 March 31 The Polish Senate passes he Expatriots Law, canceling citizenship for Polish Jews
living outside the country, unless their passports are checked and stamped by Polish consular officials
by the end of October. (7) In other words, if Polish citizens living abroad failed to meet with
appropriate officials, they were no longer welcomed to the country. This conflict of German and
Polish laws left thousands of Polish Jews on the border, between Poland and Germany, in the cold and
with little or no provisions. This deportation also led to the next step accelerating the events of
Kristallnacht. In the crowd of Polish Jews being held at the border, the Grynszpan family acted as the

Perks Of Being A Wallflower Reflection
The summer before 7th grade I was introduced to the movie, Perks Of Being A Wallflower, by
Stephen Chbosky. I label this movie the most influential piece of art that I have ever been exposed to
as it allowed me to familiarize myself with characters who held traits I d recognized in myself long
before but hadn t gotten the opportunity to learn. The movie followed an incoming high school
freshman, Charlie, and a group of outcast seniors he befriended Sam, Patrick, Mary Elizabeth, and
Alice all of whom, were characters who helped shape me into the person I am today.
Gay. I had heard the word before when I was younger, maybe eight or nine years old, from a sixth

Instead of only watching the movie because I wanted a sense comfort I had struggled in finding
before, I watched it with a more mature mindframe. One of the key components in Perks Of Being A
Wallflower is the Rocky Horror Picture Show. In the movie the characters put on a live performance
of Rocky Horror weekly. The show plays a big part in some of the characters lives and it started to
play a huge role in mine once I payed more attention to it. The more I watched and listened to the
story the more I was intrigued. Rocky Horror brought on a lot of firsts for me. It was the first musical I
had watched all the way through and enjoyed everything I saw. This lead me to find some of my
favorite shows and movies today, like RENT and Glee. Rocky Horror also introduced me to the first
transgender character I d ever seen. Granted, Dr. Frank N Furter probably wasn t the best role model
for a fourteen year old, but I was mesmerized by the sheer existence of a happy community existing of
people who were outcasts and shunned away from society. Rocky Horror also showed in depth how
people can change when exposed to new things. Rocky Horror Picture Show starts with a conservative
couple, Brad and Janet, who are terrified to be anywhere around a house full of transgender people
and by the end of it they come out non judgemental and tolerant. It s a prime example of how you can

While we may have hobbies or ideas that we are very passionate about, it s not always easy turning
them into something more. Some people need a bit more guidance to figure out certain aspects of life.
This is where career counseling comes to be of great help. Professionals aid in helping others make
informed decisions about their careers by counseling individuals in aspects of self awareness and
development. They also offer services by educating their clients in career choices and the changes they
may endure over time. Many theories have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Self concept is the way we view ourselves and how we fit into society. It entails many elements and it
develops over time, starting when we are young children. Although self concept encounters many
factors that assist in the shaping and molding of oneself , the facet that holds greatest significance may
be the nature nurture aspect. Delving into the nature based (genetic) and nurture based
(environmental) factors in relation to one s self concept is a critically important step counselors should
take in helping their clients gain a better understanding of themselves and move forward in making the
best decisions possible in their careers (Gottfredson, 2002).
Interviewer: Well then, what is the most important relationship among career, personality, and self
worth?
Gottfredson: Self concept is one s perspective of themselves, however, if you re self worth is low, your
self concept is likely not up to par with who you really are. If you don t know your worth, you re not
going to see yourself in the most positive light, and therefore not realizing your true potential. With
low self worth or self esteem comes self doubt, and further embeds restrictions we may have already
placed on ourselves. This is how we come to settle for careers that while may seem easier or more
accessible, often do not fit our true selves. Finding your self worth and gaining confidence in that is
where one begins to challenge those restrictions and venture into what

Essay On Resume
A resume a short, simple document that highlights an individual s experience, qualifications, skills
education and certifications in hopes of finding a job and is usually limited to one, maybe two pages.
(WiseGEEK, n.d.) Some employers ask for a resume, other employers ask for what is called a
Curriculum Vitae, often shorted to CV. Some employers use the term interchangeably. The CV
includes all life accomplishments, in chronological order regardless of the relevance to the job duties.
In the academic community, a CVs is the most common and can ran several pages long and is often
requested for graduate and professional schools like PHD programs. (Simpson, n.d.) A well written
resume contains contact information about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A functional resume is a better fit for someone who is entering the work force after a long period of
absence relating health or personal reasons, may have had a long string of temp jobs that lasted only a
few weeks or a couple months. This type can highlight jobs that are relevant to what the hiring
managers are looking for while leaving the date off and focuses more on education, skills and past job
duties. Taking the time to choose the best format is worth it. Choose the right font and size. Times
New Roman 12 has been the long standing standard. Keep italics, underlining, bold, and the use of
bullets to a minimum and stay consistent with the style you choose. First of all, before applying for
any job, get a basic resume put together. I recommend a chronological resume to use a template. On
some note book paper, write down a basic objective what kind of position are you looking for? Are
you trying to switch industries? Are you looking for a lateral move or trying to go for a job with more
responsibilities? Those are important questions to ask yourself as you write an objective. From there,
under the heading of employment list all the jobs you ve had over the last 10 15 years. Job title, basic
job duties and approximate dates. If you don t remember your hire date or the day you

Spaying And Neuter Pets Essay
the Arms of an Angel and there are dogs and cats sitting behind a closed kennel door looking at the
camera with sad eyes. This breaks my heart every time I see this commercial or hear the song playing
on the radio. There are many millions of animals that are unloved, neglected and abandoned in shelters
each year because people do not participate in getting their animals spayed or neutered or the animals
are over bred for profit.
Animal overcrowding in shelters is only one reason of many as to why pet owners should spay or
neuter their pets, but it is the most important reason of all. Shelters all over the United States are past
the overcrowded level and even dog rescue groups are finding it harder and harder everyday to find
homes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When you think about all these situations, the amount of animals in a shelter can rapidly increase
every day, and this is very sad that we have done this to our furry friends .
Spaying and neutering your animal can not only help with the overcrowding in shelters but can
actually be beneficial to your home and pets. Male dogs and cats when un neutered have a tendency to
mark their property. When they mark their territory it can lead to a very unpleasant smell in and
around your home. Have you ever walked a dog and noticed them peeing frequently on fire hydrants,
trees, corners or certain sections in the yard? This would be your male animal stating that he is a male.
When you neuter your male animal, this behavior decreases and thus you can have a cleaner smelling
house. Also, it is a recognizes concept amongst pet owners that getting your animal fixed can help
with behavioral issues such as aggression, dominance, and also sexual arousal around a female animal.
Female dogs and cats go into a heat cycle, similar to that of a female human. Their cycle causes them
to bleed for about two weeks and can make quite the mess if you are not planning for it. Also, spaying
can help with the females behavior as well; they mellow down and are less fussy. If you re a female
you know that when you re on your cycle you can be temperamental, it s the same for female dogs and
cats.
There is also health related issues that are more prominent in animals that aren t

Existentialism And The Beliefs Of The Movement
Losing all hope was freedom. One of the most powerful quotes in Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk that
is a good summary of existentialism and the beliefs of the movement. Existentialism was a turning
point for society and literature that advocated the expansion of the minds of authors and their readers
so we could improve our thinking to be more enlightened and free. The movement sparked much
alternative thinking to allow our society to grow into what it is today and without it people would
most likely be more close minded and less free. Existentialism was a very influential movement with
many impactful authors and will forever be remembered in history because of it s unique ideas about
the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent determining their own
development through acts of the will and how it shifted a culture.
Existentialism is a philosophical idea within ethics that was developed in the 19th century and
progressed heavily into the 20th century. Some basic foundational ideas of existentialism are found in
early Buddhist and Christian writings, which may have been the starting point for the movement.
Also, like existentialism s previous philosophical ideas that came before it, it rebels against traditional
Western thought that believes rationality and consciousness are the key points to understanding the
human condition. According to Jean Paul Sartre, a famous existentialist, existence precedes and rules
essence (Andrea 665). A clearer way

Vince Lombardi s Super Bowl
Vince Lombardi, the iconic coach of the Green Bay Packers, is widely regarded as one of the greatest
football leaders of all time. While his winning record may be attributed to many factors, most credit
him with the ability to motivate an entire group of individual players to accomplish remarkable
achievements when united as a team. Coach Lombardi insisted that, Individual commitment to a group
effort that s what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work. While it is
highly improbable that most kids will ever experience the thrill of winning a Super Bowl, the positive
effects of engaging in a team sport offer lifelong benefits which include converting losses into gains,
developing self discipline, and fostering strong relationships. ... Show more content on

Ideally, the celebrations of hard fought victories will outnumber the agonizing losses in large
quantities. However, the lessons learned from devastating defeats are often the most important tool in
the quest for success. As Bobby Jones suggested, losses, by their very nature, offer the most
compelling evidence that modifications and improvements are warranted. In other words, a loss
encourages the athlete to channel the disappointment into a positive progression of steps, thus
instigating a more favorable outcome in the future. The fact is that in both life and sports, defeat is
inevitable, and the skill to use the lessons learned in a loss to initiate the groundwork for future
success is a winning

Jealousy In A Separate Peace
In the book A Separate Peace, the narrator, Gene, recalls of his friendship he shared with Phineas at
Devon. In the beginning, Phineas and Gene are portrayed as this complimentary companionship in
which both sides helped the other. But as this connection progresses, this sense of jealousy and
resentment floods through Gene in a moment of anger. Throughout the book there are many places in
which their friendship collapses, and in all of these places, it is shown how people, when faced with
envy, act irrationally and often cause resentment and bitterness. This is shown when Gene and Phineas
are at the tree, about to jump off the tree together. This moment should have been one that would
strengthen their friendship, but in a turn of events, Gene made Phineas fall by jouncing the limb
beneath Finny. During ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon coming back, he describes the school as sedate and Preserved , and how he felt that the school
was like that to him, only serving as a museum of all his experiences at Devon (Knowles 9 10). He
feels all of those moments and memories were saved only to remind him of his brutal actions that he
had committed during his time. One major place he visited while coming back fifteen years later was
the tree. When he sees the tree he describes it as enfeebled , and how it was similar, yet different, that
Nothing endures, not a tree, not love, not even death by violence , which shows how at that tree there
were negative thoughts tied to it, and how even the seemingly resilient can be torn down by time
(Knowles 14). It challenges how together Gene and Finny were this dominant force, and yet as time
progressed, they lost that, becoming weaker and and eroded by their progression. The tree was a
metaphor of the relationship between Phineas and Gene, strong and resilient, but after Finny s death,
indirectly caused by Gene, now only enfeebled and

The Corleonesi Research Paper
The Corleonesi was a mafia group whose leaders were originated from Corleone, Italy. The main
leader Luciano Leggio. Leggio started out working for Micele Navarra. While under Navarra, Leggio
s murder of Placido Rizzotto, a resistance veteran, is on the most noteworthy murders of a political
figure in the years after the war. This murder shows just the beginning brutality of what was yet to
come of Leggio and the Corleonesi. Leggio hid from authority after the murdering Rizzotto, and due
to his skill at staying away from justice, he was given the nickname Scarlet Pimpernel . Much like the
brutality shown in his murder of Rizzotto, his secretiveness and concealment would also become areas
that the Corleonesi would become known for. Leggio, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Continuing with the theme of violence, the Corleonesi attacked and killed three of Navarra s best
fighters in the middle of Corleone, while also injuring innocent bystanders. His violence and coup
against the established bosses was not something commonly done; furthermore, it displayed that the
power of group lie with its military prowess, rather than their political influence. The Corleonesi
functioned under the plan of using devastating violence to get what they want while suffering short
term political loss. The Corleonesi continued their fight against the Navarra and as they were about to
claim victory against the Navarra, the Ciaculli car bomb went off which led to mass arrests of mafia
members, including Leggio. Leggio s trial is carried out very similar to the ways of other mafia trails,
such as Notarbartolo s murder trial, where evidence is lost, and defendants do not talk, which then
ultimately lead to the mafioso not getting convicted. After not getting convicted, he would continue
his work in the mafia, by becoming one of the leaders of the Commission when it was

Compared To The Germanic Tribe Of The Vandals
In addition, here it should be mentioned that the term of Vandalism applied in this book does not refer
to the historic Germanic tribe of the Vandals, who were Arian Christians, i.e., who did not believe in
the divinity of Ben Pandera (dubbed: Jesus Christ ). Like later Islam, the Vandals granted freedom for
religion for the believers in Christ as a god. This was their death. The believers in Christ as a god
either forced others to believe in the concoctions of theirs or killed them bestially. For instance, the
Vandals siege of Rome in the fifth century compared to the sacking of the believers in Christ as a god
of Jerusalem in the year 1099 was a trifle. The Vandals only filched goods, e.g., gold, silver and other

Egg Chromatography Lab
Introduction
Chromatography is an experimental technique used to separate a substance into its components based
upon their polarities or non polarities. The purpose of this experiment was to use thin layer
chromatography to separate lipid molecules in an egg yolk sample. Silica thin layer chromatography
(TLC) plates were used along with the egg yolk sample and standard solutions of the three lipids that
were extracted from the egg yolk. Very small portions of the analytes were added to the plate and
placed into the chromatography chamber, which was filled with a solution of chloroform, methanol,
and water. The egg yolk separated into its components, and the standard solutions also moved
according to polarities. The hydroxyl groups on the plate due to the silica hydrogen bond with polar
molecules, preventing them from moving as far as nonpolar molecules. 1 ... Show more content on

The TLC plate was also used to confirm that these lipids are present in egg yolk by comparing the dots
to the dots from the egg yolk sample that separated on the TLC plate. Retention factors were
calculated to compare how far each dot traveled based on polarity. This lab is relevant to the
discussion of polar and nonpolar molecules, the brief overview of chromatography in the textbook,
and discussions on hydrogen bonding. In the field of biochemistry, chromatography is frequently used
for DNA fingerprinting, quality analysis in the food industry, diagnosis of diseases and disorders,
polymer synthesis, and even the Ebola immunization.

Power Snack
Economic Feasibility
After reviewing the economic feasibility of in power snacks. When determining the project cost and
the revenue projections, there are many aspects to consider. When elevating the startup cost without
paying any type of the utilities or for rent. The start up cost will be closely around $5700. This will
contain a small amount of reserves with equipment, material supplies beginning inventory, operating
cost, business license, advertisement and miscellaneous expense. This is a small start up cost and
seems to be very logically stable to start Empower Snacks program. Although, when projecting
revenue logically, when manufacturing everything manually with an inexperienced staff, the period to
manufacture these items for consumption will be instituted at a greater degree than common
manufacturing periods.
When examining the revenue projections, having a 12 hour week supervisor with an advanced wage,
will project a loss in revenue or establish a high amount of units to be manufactured to break even.
This amount of units would not be practical for an inexperienced staff or producing these products
manually, in addition not in a manufacturing setting. Recommendations would to base revenue income
on having an $11 $13 hour supervisor trained. This would produce revenues to have a break even
point at a smaller unit amount that is more feasible for a handmade product with an inexperienced
staff. (See Appendix Startup expense Breakeven Analysis)

Choosing A Career At Young Age
Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life´s coming attractions. (Albert Einstein) Choosing a
career at young age expands the imagination in one´s mind. At the age of five, my imagination was
expanding because that was all I thought about. Growing up to me meant there would be plenty of
responsibilities that would have to be taken care of. This is something that our parents teach us while
growing up. What is more important of those teachings is the significance. If you can pursue any
career path, then do it without the ideas of others. This is what I did. The actions of others affect your
thoughts. My elementary and middle school years changed my perspective of how my life would be
while growing up. I experienced bullying and behaviors that left me surprised. There were careless
teachers, rude comments of how I would grow up to be, and the words, You will never be good
enough unspoken, but still meant. I would just think this was normal, but it would continue for years.
Then bad things turn for the good. I was given the opportunity to start over by going to a new school.
There I was exposed to the career of Criminal Justice. This is where I had my mind set. The past years
of bullying affected my way of making decisions. I felt like I had to run my decisions through
somebody. That somebody were my parents. Each one of our parents dream of their child´s future, so I
was hoping we both had the same thoughts. After being at my new school for one year, I

Suicide s Note By Langston Hughes
Suicide s Note Not all poems fall into the category of epic poetry or ballads. Some pieces are short
and concise rather than lengthy and elegant. A shorter poem may focus more thoroughly on diction, or
the author s specific choice of words, rather than things such as rhyme scheme or meter. Langston
Hughes poem Suicide s Note is a perfect example of this. Because it is only twelve words long, every
single word is important and chosen carefully. This poem uses many literary techniques, none more
than diction, to achieve its purpose. which is to focus on the split second decision that is suicide. To
begin, Hughes uses his diction to create a distinct mood for his poem. For example, when one reads
the poem without first reading the title, The calm, Cool face of the river Asked me for a kiss, they may
create in their own head a calm, positive or happy mood. The words may remind one of summer days
at the lake or the beautiful view of a river valley. The author does this on purpose as he wants the
reader to be relaxed. With the title, Suicide s Note, attached, however, the mood automatically
becomes more solemn. Hughes gives his readers this title because he wants them to understand that
this poem has a meaning beyond what can be seen at first glance. Nothing in these lines really reveals
a tone, or the author s attitude toward the subject, which makes the mood that much more more
important. The author establishes that his, or anyone s, thoughts or feelings

  • 2. The Origins Of The World Viking, the word conjures up images of well built men with long hair and braided beards wearing firs and horned helmets, holding axes and shields, ready to battle so they can return home to consume bountiful feasts. The word brings to mind fanciful stories like Beowulf where these very same men fight beasts after a night of stuffing their gullets and consuming large amounts of mead. There are so many stories about these warriors that many of them have become legendary individuals, but there is so little information about the people who provided the food to keep the so powered up, the people who provided the nourishment for the rest of their community while the warriors plundered and defended their honor. There is little known about the farmers. There is even less known about these unsung heroes around the time that Christianity took over the Norse culture. A group of researchers that took part in a study in Skagafjörður Iceland was determined to change that. Iceland has some of the richest Viking history, next to The Netherlands, so the fact that the people living there would want a more in depth history makes sense. Murphy and Zoëga took a special interest in a small site in the project, to see how the common non warrior Viking lived their lives. They wanted to know more about the people history forgot to mention, to breathe the life back into the people who time almost forgot, the people whose story did not get told, the people Viking warriors would have not even existed ... • 3. Foreign Direct Investment Into Pakistan Title: Causes of Foreign direct investment into Pakistan. Aim and objectives: The dissertation topic will focus on the importance of foreign direct investment into Pakistan s Economy and will also focus around the causes of foreign direct investment. The report will look into three different perspectives such as, the effects on FDI pre and post 9/11, investment in different sectors of industry and the importance of investing countries in terms of contributing towards developing Pakistan s infrastructure or helping financially to fight the War against terror . Moreover, the report also provides an insight to what can be done to improve the inflow of FDI into Pakistan. Background of Pakistan s economy and FDI: Since the independence in 1947 the economy of Pakistan has emerged as a semi industrialized economy and is mainly based on textile, agriculture and food production. The textile industry contributes around 9% to the country s gross domestic product (khurram baig, 2013). However, since the start of 2008 the country as a whole has struggled to gain the confidence of many foreign and local investors due to instability and security concerns and the country is struggling to gain back the confidence ever since. Although, after 2012 an increase in the FDI was seen due to improvement in the tertiary sector, this was n mainly due to an increase in spending power and confidence shown by the local consumers (The World Bank). Foreign direct investment refers to long term ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Write An Essay On Isaac s Storm It was Saturday, Sept. 8, 1900, and never had Buford T. Morris seen such a beautiful daybreak: The sky seemed to be made of mother of pearl; gloriously pink, yet containing a fish scale effect which reflected all the colors of the rainbow. Within hours, however, this glorious first light in Galveston, Texas, would be transformed into disaster of unimaginable proportionsÐone that would devastate the seaside town and claim the lives of an estimated 8,000 people as a deadly hurricane blew in from the Gulf of Mexico. It was, in a sense, Isaac Cline s storm the man stationed in Galveston for the new U.S. Weather Bureau. St. Mary s Orphanage and nearly all of its 93 children were swept away including young charges tethered in groups by clothesline in the nuns ill fated attempt to save their lives. Houses floated down streets, becoming battering rams as water from the nearby bay and from the Gulf of Mexico converged on the town, rising well above 30 feet in depth and above the rooftops of many two story homes. Dr. S.O. Young, a Cline acquaintance, was drawn by the sheer power of the storm as it assailed his home. Opening the door to a second floor gallery, he hauled himself outside and was immediately pinned to the exterior wall by 125 mph winds. He remained there, agape, as he surveyed the unfolding drama. Waves swept through Young s neighborhood, writes Larson, propelling huge pieces of wreckage. Within minutes, the only other house still standing began a slow pirouette, rose like a huge steamboat . . . and suddenly disappeared with the occupants, a family of four, still inside. My feelings were indescribable as I saw them go, Young later recounted. Finally, the rescuers came. As many as 500 dead, some were told. Seasoned reporters accustomed to hearing exaggerated claims soon learned that, in fact, this report of the death toll was a vast ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Case Study Of Daimler-Benz And Colrysler incentives to sell cars. In addition, Chrysler had been on brink of bankruptcy some times before; and it was already on the side of maturity stage with declining growth. The simple motive of the merger was to take advantages of each other s distribution networks global supplier base, thereby saving costs thanks to high volumes. Daimler Benz could gain access to Chrysler s distribution networks in North America, while Chrysler could reach out to Europe market thanks to Daimler Benz s networks. Goldman Sachs was just brought in to make the deal happen. In addition, equal status of both parties in the merger, as Schrempp said, did not exist, and the promise that one day, the American would hold the highest management position in Daimler was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, Daimler Benz s and Chrysler s brand images were completely opposite, which makes them lose their own intrinsic value if they would merge together. Again, the clash in cultures and values took them apart and a harmony within the new company seemed to be impossible. In addition, with the purpose of protecting sales of Daimler s luxury and uncompromising quality products like Mercedes, some core vehicles of Chrysler, such as Dodge Neon and the Jeep Grand Cherokee, were sidelined in favor of Daimler s products. Apparently, Chrysler s products are always within cost control, while Daimler Benz s vehicles are less cost effective. Merging with Daimler Benz, Chrysler hadn t earned as many benefits as expected, but already faced a severe internal competition which harmed it business not only in the US market, but also hindered Chrysler s plan of expansion in Europe. Practically, from Chrysler s point of view, instead of benefiting from synergy savings and instead of promoting its brand in new market, the merger with Daimler Benz actually put Chrysler into a bigger chaos and ... The Impact of Acronyms Use in Facebook on Language Based on the observations and results that I gathered for 2 weeks, I found out that most of my participant who uses Facebook daily uses acronym to update their status, provide feedback or comment, chatting with other users, to give out information or to post personal details through Facebook. For my research, I found out 5 most common acronyms used by my participants which are BT, FYI, TQ, BTW, and FB. When asked about this, my sample gives out different opinion and reason on why they tend to use this acronym when using Facebook. In my view, they use acronym to shorten the sentence when they update their status in Facebook via Facebook mobile as well as to reduce the time taken to type the full sentence. When asked about whether using acronym limited the use and application of languages, they did not think about it at all. For example, Mr. K from Evidence 4 stated that he does not care about language when he update his status or chat with his friend in Facebook. For him, he only cares about using correct form of language when he was in a formal environment, as an example, speaking to his English lecturer. Moving on, from the findings or results that I have gathered, I place my focus on only 5 acronyms in order to narrow my observation. However, I will discuss the 5 acronyms more in the view of semantic. Semantically, all five acronyms mentioned in my research have different meaning. • 9. Physical And Economic Effects Of A Tsunami Causes And Its... What is a Tsunami? Tsunamis are dangerous and unpredictable, but what are they? A tsunami is a series of waves generated by disturbances in the body of water. The waves of a tsunami can reach up to 100 feet, and travel at an average speed of 500 miles per hour, or 805 kilometers an hour. Causes Tsunamis can be caused by several different things, including earthquakes, which cause shoves from the land, pushing the tsunami forward. They can also be caused by landslides, which can happen underwater. The sudden movement displaces enough water to start a tsunami. Volcanic eruptions also cause tsunamis to form, as when they collapse, it displaces the water as well as shaking the ground. Effects Tsunamis have horrible physical and economic effects on the places they appear. The waves move fast enough to cause serious damage to the surrounding area, and the force is strong enough to even rip buildings from their foundations. They have the ability to uproot trees, destroy crops and natural habitats, and often result in the deaths of citizens due to drowning, or being crushed by debris. The Tsunamis also contaminate water sources, and cause damages to critical places, such as nuclear plants. The government is also held responsible for repairing the damages, which may cost years and even billions of dollars. It can also cause a well kept area to become dirty and cluttered with litter, and the efforts to return it back to its former state may cost more than a country is willing to ... They were, The decrease in demand caused by the decline in incomes during the Great Depression, 1938 s court case against the Big Five and the Second World War (5 Page 22) However, the main issue on why the Studio System fell apart was the fact that the Big Five were sued for use of Blind Bidding when selling their films to theatres. In short of what they say on www.cybercollege.com, in 1938, the U.S Supreme Court had decided that these studios represented a monopoly and ordered for the case to be opened. Two years after the case was opened against them, they denied any monopolistic practises and agreed to stop buying theatres, eliminate blind bidding and limit these biddings to only five films, but they didn t do what they said they would. Four years after, the Big five still had control over the motion picture industry. An antitrust was launched against them and instead of saying they would change their blind bidding or stopping the theatres ownership, they were forced to diverse themselves of both the Big Five and also from the theatres they owned. Balanced Scorecard Case Study The Impact of using Balanced Scorecard on Strategic Performance of Small and Medium Enterprises REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE This research paper describes an overview of the theoretical background of the Balanced Scorecard as well as describing the historical foundation and the development of its theories. A company s success will have a correlation with its strategy. However, if an organization cannot implement and cascade its strategy throughout the company, they may experience a low rate of success and may fail eventually. Norton stated that the balanced scorecard is defined as the translation of an organization s mission and strategy into a comprehensive set of performance measures that provides the framework for a strategic measurement and management system. (Kaplan, R.S. and Norton, D.P. 1996) In the beginning of the introduction of the balance scorecard, the Activity Based Costing or the ABC Approach was introduced by Johnson and Kaplan. Because of this, the organizations were able to move organizations away from the financially biased measurement to a more balanced approach that are related to the four perspectives of an organization s success which are the financial, customer, internal processes and learning and growth. To make the balance scorecard accurate, the organizational management team in lines the mission, vision, and strategy of the company into the scorecard. • 13. Frederik Schiller s Letters On The Aesthetic Education Of Man The role of art in human life has been studied by several philosophers throughout time. Frederik Schiller (1795 1805), in his Letters On the Aesthetic Education of Man develops the theory of the drives to explain the fragmentation of the human being and places art in a reconciliatory role between man s personal nature and the community. The present essay will discuss in some detail Schiller s theory of the drives, placing the main focus on the role and importance of the play drive in human life, to finally discuss the features in Schiller s theory of play that help elucidate the role of art in human life. According to Schiller, men in modern society experiment a conflict between the cultivation of individual talent and the welfare of their community as a single being. This conflict results in an alienation of the being and its consequent fragmentation. Taking this into account, Schiller states there are two aspects of human nature to be considered: the sense drive and the form drive. The sense, or sensuous drive, is born from man s physical existence, and thrives to achieve constant change of matter within a limit of time (finite). It is man s most primitive state . On the other hand, the form drive, born from man s rational nature, thrives to free man and maintain his person despite all the changes of his condition overlooking a limited time frame (infinite). This duality of human nature brings forth an imbalance in man s nature when one of the senses overpowers the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many occupations do not compare because they lack the feeling of heroism, affection and inquiry. In The Great Influenza , John M Barry is describing how a scientist must function and the techniques that they use to complete their research. Through his diction, allusions and figurative language he better illustrates the work of scientist as demanding and to persuade the reader to accept his view on scientific research. One rhetorical method that Barry implements is allusions. He helps to engage the reader and keep his argument more cogent. For instance, his literary allusion in line 31 through the looking glass is a reference back to Alice in Wonderland. The remark suggests that youre going into a world that feels utterly fraudulent. While in this alternate universe nothing at all can be perceived true and you are in a situation to be quarrelsome. His other implication of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many people are brought up with the idea that animal experimentation is necessary to insure the safety of humans, but in reality, these experiments are creating only harm to animals. Animals have done nothing to deserve this backlash, and by educating the public on the true unsuccessfulness of animal testing, the ethical side is forced out in the open. The argument Animal Testing is Bad Science by the People for The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), argues that ethics dictate the value of each life, and that no life is overthrown by another. • 17. The Theory Of Plate Tectonics And Continental Drift The concept of plate tectonics is that the lithosphere, which is the higher layers of the Earth s surface, is separated into a number of plates that float independently over the mantle and along the boundaries that initiate the development of new crust, the building of mountains, and the seismic movement that triggers earthquakes (Geosystems 340). Scientists have discovered that the landforms and geographic regions we know and live on today were formed when plate tectonics shift and create movement on the Earth, forming many land structures. In 1977 two scientists created the most elaborate and detailed picture of the earth that has ever been designed, called the Tharp Heezen map of the seafloor (National Geographic, PT). Because of this map, the theory of plate tectonics and continental drift was accepted widely across the world and still known today. A German geophysicist, Alfred Wegener, presented an idea in his book Origin of the Continents and Oceans, evoking the topic of continental drift, which is the gradual movement of the continents across the earth s surface through geological time. He named the large supercontinent Pangaea , meaning all Earth (Geosystems 340). The two types of tectonic plates are the oceanic and continental plates. The element Rutherfordium was named in his honor. Since money was tight, Rutherford found good ways of overcoming his family s money challenges, By making family friendly inventions. At the age of ten, Rutherford was handed his first science book at Fox Hill School. It was a great experience for Rutherford, that the book inspired his very first scientific experiment. Endangered Species Act Of 1973 Essay Endangered Species Act of 1973 The Endangered Species Act of 1973 is an environmental policy that is currently having problems with timely implementation of its policies. The current issue interfering with the ability of this policy to perform to the best of its ability is the government s reaction time. The government has been sluggish in reacting to the different species when they become endangered. This may in part be due to interference from lobbyists who may not always be acting in the best interest of the species they claim to be lobbying for. The Endangered Species Act of 1973 was created to protect individual plant and animal species as well as their ecosystems. The act creates two separate groups: the endangered species and the threatened species categories. Endangered species are species that are close to extinction and threatened species are those that have a potential to move onto the endangered list. For example, the southwest settlements such as the Pueblos depended on irrigation systems living in large numbers, where the settlements in the Great Plains region, lived a nomadic lifestyle being dependent on buffalo as their life source. In essence, the environment where the Native population settled led to diversity among the tribes because each tribe had to adapt to their unique environment in order to survive. The southwest settements lived a stationary life, where those in the Great Plains migrated as they followed their cattle. Additionally, not only did their environment vary, their language also differed. American Indian languages consisted of more then 20 language families including 400 distinct languages. Due to this, the ability to comminicate lacked leading to varied beliefs, customs, cultures and development of ways of life. Although both Spain and England conquered and settled in areas located in America, their colonies differed. To illustrate, the English settled in areas without large native empires unlike the Spanish. Because of this difference, the English were unable to to use natives as a controllable workforce as the Spanish did. The Spanish used an economic system called encomienda system that relied on the use of slavery. Additionally, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I label this movie the most influential piece of art that I have ever been exposed to as it allowed me to familiarize myself with characters who held traits I d recognized in myself long before but hadn t gotten the opportunity to learn. The movie followed an incoming high school freshman, Charlie, and a group of outcast seniors he befriended Sam, Patrick, Mary Elizabeth, and Alice all of whom, were characters who helped shape me into the person I am today. The show plays a big part in some of the characters lives and it started to play a huge role in mine once I payed more attention to it. The more I watched and listened to the story the more I was intrigued. Rocky Horror brought on a lot of firsts for me. Rocky Horror also introduced me to the first transgender character I d ever seen. Rocky Horror also showed in depth how people can change when exposed to new things. Delving into the nature based (genetic) and nurture based (environmental) factors in relation to one s self concept is a critically important step counselors should take in helping their clients gain a better understanding of themselves and move forward in making the best decisions possible in their careers (Gottfredson, 2002). When you think about all these situations, the amount of animals in a shelter can rapidly increase every day, and this is very sad that we have done this to our furry friends . Spaying and neutering your animal can not only help with the overcrowding in shelters but can actually be beneficial to your home and pets. Male dogs and cats when un neutered have a tendency to mark their property. When they mark their territory it can lead to a very unpleasant smell in and around your home. Have you ever walked a dog and noticed them peeing frequently on fire hydrants, trees, corners or certain sections in the yard? This would be your male animal stating that he is a male. When you neuter your male animal, this behavior decreases and thus you can have a cleaner smelling house. Also, it is a recognizes concept amongst pet owners that getting your animal fixed can help with behavioral issues such as aggression, dominance, and also sexual arousal around a female animal. Female dogs and cats go into a heat cycle, similar to that of a female human. Their cycle causes them to bleed for about two weeks and can make quite the mess if you are not planning for it. Also, spaying can help with the females behavior as well; they mellow down and are less fussy. One of the most powerful quotes in Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk that is a good summary of existentialism and the beliefs of the movement. Existentialism was a turning point for society and literature that advocated the expansion of the minds of authors and their readers so we could improve our thinking to be more enlightened and free. The movement sparked much alternative thinking to allow our society to grow into what it is today and without it people would most likely be more close minded and less free. Existentialism was a very influential movement with many impactful authors and will forever be remembered in history because of it s unique ideas about the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent determining their own development through acts of the will and how it shifted a culture. Existentialism is a philosophical idea within ethics that was developed in the 19th century and progressed heavily into the 20th century. Some basic foundational ideas of existentialism are found in early Buddhist and Christian writings, which may have been the starting point for the movement. Also, like existentialism s previous philosophical ideas that came before it, it rebels against traditional Western thought that believes rationality and consciousness are the key points to understanding the human condition. (Albert Einstein) Choosing a career at young age expands the imagination in one´s mind. At the age of five, my imagination was expanding because that was all I thought about. Growing up to me meant there would be plenty of responsibilities that would have to be taken care of. This is something that our parents teach us while growing up. What is more important of those teachings is the significance. If you can pursue any career path, then do it without the ideas of others. This is what I did. The actions of others affect your thoughts. My elementary and middle school years changed my perspective of how my life would be while growing up. I experienced bullying and behaviors that left me surprised. There were careless teachers, rude comments of how I would grow up to be, and the words, You will never be good enough unspoken, but still meant. • 51. Suicide s Note By Langston Hughes Suicide s Note Not all poems fall into the category of epic poetry or ballads. Some pieces are short and concise rather than lengthy and elegant. A shorter poem may focus more thoroughly on diction, or the author s specific choice of words, rather than things such as rhyme scheme or meter. Langston Hughes poem Suicide s Note is a perfect example of this. Because it is only twelve words long, every single word is important and chosen carefully. This poem uses many literary techniques, none more than diction, to achieve its purpose. which is to focus on the split second decision that is suicide. To begin, Hughes uses his diction to create a distinct mood for his poem. For example, when one reads the poem without first reading the title, The calm, Cool face of the river Asked me for a kiss, they may create in their own head a calm, positive or happy mood. The words may remind one of summer days at the lake or the beautiful view of a river valley. The author does this on purpose as he wants the reader to be relaxed. With the title, Suicide s Note, attached, however, the mood automatically becomes more solemn. Hughes gives his readers this title because he wants them to understand that this poem has a meaning beyond what can be seen at first glance. Nothing in these lines really reveals a tone, or the author s attitude toward the subject, which makes the mood that much more more important. The author establishes that his, or anyone s, thoughts or feelings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
