Oliver Bruhl Research Paper
Sitting in the very first row of the lecture theater 10 minutes before commencement, considering the
most demanding question of the incoming lecture. Dedication? Nerd? No, this guy is Oliver the
big versatile man. Oliver Bruhl is a current university student studying combined actuarial studies
and advanced mathematics. Oliver was born on the 25th of October, 1997 in Armidale, Australia
and had an enviable life together with Jeremy and Francos (his parents) and younger brother
Jonathan. Mathematics and music played far reaching roles in his life and essentially shaped his
personality. Since a young age, Oliver has shown an yearning interest in mathematics and his
enthusiasm was recognized by his mother who advised him to become an actuary. During the
career class in year 10, Oliver attempted a career quiz and that found actuarial studies to be the
right choice. Because of the experience in such a logical subject, he started to enjoy working
indoors so he decided not to be a paleontologist (although he still loves dinosaurs) but a
mathematician. Through practicing demanding questions , his calmness has been developed, which
is a precious strength for him.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His talent in piano won him a scholarship from his school, and he is an extraordinary singer.
Oliver started choir singing in year 5 and stayed there until high school when he was the oldest
and definitely the best one. Consequently, Oliver was nominated to a national audition and
succeeded in joining in the smallest choir group (used to be 50, but only 35 for his year). The
choir he participated in was international they did not only perform in Australia, but also in China
(Guangzhou and Beijing). His love for music is so deep that that the most inspiring was the visual

Essay about External Auditors Must be Independent
2001. It was the year that every individual; man, woman and children on Earth would remember.
There was the September 11 event which was considered the worst terrorist attack that has
happened in U.S. history, killing a total of 2, 977 people. And not long after that, in the business
world, on December 2, the greatest corporate failure was exposed. The crash of Enronin US,
followed by the worldwide collapse of its auditor, Arthur Andersenbecame one the most popular
accounting scandal where it is still being talked about even after a decade has passed. Following
this scandal, other massive organizations like WorldCom (2002), AIG (2004), and Satyam
Computer Services (2009) shared the same fate. Since then, there have been questions being... Show

The presence of an external auditor allows creditors, investors or bankers to use financial
statements that have been prepared with confidence. Although it does not guarantee the accuracy of
a financial statement, it provides users with some reassurance that a company s financial
statements give a true and fair view of its financial position and its business operations. It also
provides credibility, where in business, is a major asset. With credibility, the willingness of
investors, bankers and others to relate and undertake business projects with a company increases.
Credibility is also important to build positive reputations.
Internal auditors cannot effectively provide an analysis on the company s internal dealings as they
are part of the company. External auditors, however, can observe these processes from the outside
and then determine where the funds of the company and whether the dealings adhere to the
regulations. Using external auditors in a company prevents conflict of interest from happening.
Conflict of interest is a situation where an individual or organization has multiple interests and of
those multiple interests, one could possible corrupt the motivation for an act on the other when the
auditor has any kind of beneficial interest in their client s performance. In other circumstances, there
is also the threat of familiarity where auditors become

The law reform process has been effective to a certain extent in achieving just outcomes in
regards to native title. This can be seen through both the Eddie Mabo case [1992] and the Yorta
Yorta case [2002] as although the cases had been concluded with final decisions, there were still
measures that could have been taken, and areas where it could have been improved to achieve a
just outcome.
MABO V QUEENSLAND (NO.2) [1992] HCA 23
In 1992, the doctrine of terra nullius was overruled by the High Court in the case Mabo v
Queensland (No.2) [1992] HCA 23. After recognising that the Meriam people of Murray Island in
the Torres Straits were native title landholders of their traditional land, the court also held that

YORTA YORTA V QUEENSLAND
The Yorta Yorta people were one of the first Indigenous groups to make a native title claim in
Australia, in February 1994. The Yorta Yorta people claimed native title to an area of land and
waters in the Northern Victoria and Southern New South Wales. However, the High Court rejected
the appeal, and it was concluded by the judge that the Yorta Yorta people had ceased to occupy
their traditional lands with relation to their traditional laws and customs, and that the period of time
in between had washed away any evidence and acknowledgement of the practise of their traditional
laws and customs. In order for Indigenous people to prove their Native Title rights, they must prove
that they have had an uninterrupted connection with the land and the practise of the traditional
laws and customs has been maintained since time of colonization. This rule disregards the effects
of colonization; that indigenous people have been forcibly removed from their homes, cultures
being forcibly altered which all results in an adaption to the new environment and way of life.
Therefore, the required burden of proof is quite discriminatory, making it increasingly difficult for
Indigenous people to prove

The Effects Of Ambient Air Quality For Environmental...
Problem 1: Ans: In the article, the author described mainly two challenges to the process. One
challenge will be to routinely share data for these types of analyses at fine geographic and temporal
scales without disclosing confidential information. Another challenge will be to develop C R
estimates which take into account time, space, or other relevant effect modifiers. (Talbot etc. 2009)
Though developing C R estimates using proper modeling methods are very important and will
directly provide initiatively studying results, in my opinion, challenges regarding data collection
and routinely share are the most important. To measure the public health impacts of ambient air
quality for environmental public health tracking, both consistent accurate data and measure
approaches are required. Though EPA has developed statistical based ambient air estimates (using
HB model) for use in EPHT, the correct modeling and representative results are all based on
accuracy data collection. From my personal experience as a biostatistician, if the collected data are
not representative or inaccuracy, however well the measuring methods are, researchers will never
get the real truth. Thus challenges regarding data collection and routinely share are the most
important. They are the foundation of the whole study. Overcoming these challenges are more than
necessary. More in detail, as described in the article the data collection and routinely share
challenges are important and mainly from two

How Does Tom Robbins Make A Difference In American Literature
Martin Luther King Jr. once expressed that Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable...
Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions
and passionate concern of dedicated individuals. Knowing this, some people are willing to sacrifice
everything in order to fulfill their ambition. Consequently, what makes a sacrificetruly worth it? In
layman s terms, a sacrifice is the act of relinquishing an object or action that one desire in order to
obtain something of equal value. Evidently, humankind cannot obtain anything without first giving
something in return; which means that the sacrifice must be of equal value. Although from
different pieces of literature, they bear some superficial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A higher level quote that would fit into a situation such as this would be by Tom Robbins, who
is an American novelist. Robbins once said that similarities bring people together on a common
ground, while diversity is what allows fascination to occur. To be frank, Robbins is attempting
to get readers to perceive that differences is not necessarily a negative thing. The two characters,
although from different pieces of literature have a common goal, which is to be successful, but
go about it in a different manner. In Victor s case, he attempted to be successful by reanimating
life. The different accidents of life are not so changeable as the feelings of human nature. I had
worked hard for nearly two years, for the sole purpose of infusing life into an inanimate body. For
this I had deprived myself of rest and health. I had desired it with an ardour that far exceeded
moderation; but now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror
and disgust filled my heart. Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created (Shelley 56). The
quote is significant because it depicts the feelings that Victor underwent as he was creating the
creature and how he felt no compassion towards his creation, but rather utter disgust. From this, we
learnt that the time and isolation that Victor sacrificed in order to create the fiend was of wasted
effort. What makes the situation

Comparing Henry VIII s Government in 1509 to 1514 to His Father s
From the transition of Old king to Young king we can assume there will be lots of differences in
the personalities between Henry VII and Henry VIII, these differences are what makes Henry VIII
s policies and government different to that of his father. Henry s personality was quite amazing, his
intelligence, learning and curiosity impressed the ambassadors who littered his court, and his thirst
for knowledge was insatiable. Like his father, he was caught in the transition from medieval
England to renaissance England. And like his father, he was well versed in English history and
desperate to continue the Tudor dynasty, to secure his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He rewarded some nobility through Patronage, doing favors for others, usually titles and things
which were free to give rather than his precious land. He created the order of the Garter and elected
the important nobility to join his council.
Henry VIII treated the Nobility rather differently, the first thing he did was to imprison and order
the death of Empson and Dudley, two figures hated by the nobility in order to show he was on the
nobilities side and so that he would hopefully gain support from them. Through Henry VII s time he
never seemed to do anything which benefited the Nobility and Henry VIII wanted to clean the slate
and begin new relations with the important and possibly useful people during his reign.
Henry VII introduced the Acts of Attainder during his reign, a means of money and land
confiscation without legal means and courts, during his reign there were 138 Acts of attainder,
however this number was greatly reduced when Henry VIII became King.
Both Henry VII and his son wanted control over the Nobility, they achieved this in different ways,
Henry VII did this through bullying them and policing them to do the right thing, Henry VIII had a
less tough stance on them, and especially during the beginning of his reign as he

Adaptation Theory Of Addiction Essay
As early as fetus development, our brain neuronal circuits begin to wire themselves. Synaptic
plasticity is gained in result of developing neural networks.
Synaptic plasticity, is the biological process that results in our ability to memorize, reinforce, and
reintroduce information. Silent glutamatergic synapses are a type of synapse that is a vital
component of synaptic development. They are present deep in the development of a young brain
and account for and represent the early processes of the pathway for experience dependent
synaptic development. Silent glutamatergic synapses (SGS) are synaptic connections in which
only N methyl D aspartic acid receptor (NMDAR) mediated responses are readily detected whereas

This results in an observed decrease of membrane excitability. Generation of new silent synapses
provided additional synaptic slots that is hypothesized to create new AMPARs in long term
potentiation whilst in long term withdrawal. Dong Y. and Lee Br., based on this observation of
AMPAR upregulation during long term withdrawal, deduce that homeostatic conversion of
AMPARs is mediated in result of the extended decrease in overall membrane excitability.
Roles of SGS in brain development, addiction, and synaptic plasticity is still widely unknown and
in early discovery. To date, researchers have uncovered the highly sensitive or plastic properties of
SGS. This has opened new theories and potential for research and development in metaplasticity
and the understanding of further chemical and developmental processes. Research done by Dong
Y. and Lee Br. Is vital in the understanding of SGS and its role in cocaine addiction. Research and
observations done in this context can pave the way for further knowledge of underlying

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Binary Options Demo Account
correctrade.com What is a binary options demo account? August 3rd, 2016
Headline: What is a binary options demo account?
Binary options trading is fairly straightforward and even a newbie can learn it in a short time.
However, owing to general volatility of the financial markets, it s risky for an inexperienced trader
to make a substantial amount of deposit and start trading for real. For that reason, many platforms
have a binary options demo account in place in order to provide the traders a risk free environment
for trading. A demo account is indispensable for a new trader as it requires no upfront commitment.
Types of trading accounts

Thus, when they start trading for real, they are well prepared and quickly adapt to the constantly
changing environment of the financial markets.
Disadvantages of a demo account
Although a demo account is indispensable for the traders, it has a few disadvantages as well.
Taking unnecessary risks A demo account comes with a large amount of practice money, even up
to $100,000. Naturally, this tends to encourage a trader to take some unnecessary risks which he
would totally avoid if it was his actual investment. The risk taking behaviour develops into a habit
and can lead to the depletion of an entire trading account as soon as the trader begins trading for
real.
Unrealistic expectations Even if a trader executes a series of successful trades using a binary
options demo account, he might not be able to replicate the same level of success in a real
account. Markets and asset trends change constantly because various macroeconomic and political
factors are at play. Therefore, placing successful trades require careful and constant analysis of the
trends over extended periods of

Music Is A Form Of Expression And Beauty
The science or art of ordering tones or sounds in succession, combination, and temporal
relationships produce a composition having unity and continuity; in layman s terms, music. Music
is an art that has evolved for many centuries. It is a form of expression and beauty. It has come a
long way from beating rocks with sticks and listening to the sound. A drastic change took place
during the RenaissancePeriod. The instruments changed, new genres emerged, and new
composition techniques were used.
Renaissance means rebirth, and in a sense there was a rebirth. The Renaissance Period took place in

The Effects Of Hellish Interpersonal Characters In No Exit...
Hellish Interpersonal Situations by Peng Su
Situations of unpleasant interactions between people are common even in our societies. At least
each person has at one time has experienced a terrible or unpleasant interaction with another
person. In the play No Exit by Sartre and the poems The Waste Land by Eliot, there are similar
unpleasant interactions depicted. No Exit is a play consisting of three characters Inez, Garcin, and
Estelle who are in hell damned in one room. The characters had thought hell was a place for
punishment but rather found themselves in a room well furnished. However, all the characters
refuse to admit to their damnation reasons. The Waste Land on the other hand is a collection of
poems that delve in war, disillusionment, death, and trauma themes to show the effects of World
War I. Therefore, the focus of this essay is to discuss unpleasant interpersonal situations depicted in
the two texts and that are similar.
In both texts, the characters were frightened by the interactions with the other people. In The Waste
Land in The Burial of the Dead , Marie was frightened when her cousin insisted on taking her on a
sled out in the snow and sliding down the hills (Elliot 5). In No Exit Garcin who was the first
person to be brought in the room by the Valet and was frightened when the Valet left and came with
Inez. Garcin was frightened by the presence of Inez in the room as she thought he

Frank Stella s Inspiration Versus What You See Is What You See
Frank Stella is an Abstract Expressionist and Minimalist artist who is known for several elements
of his painting style such as his shaped canvases and his famous saying what you see is what you
see. In the mid 1960 s, Stella created a series of paintings, the Protractor Series, which are
prominent for their semi circle shaped canvases that resemble a protractor. Despite Stella s popular
motto, what you see is what you see, Stella did, in fact, have an inspiration for his famous
masterpiece.
Frank Stella created beautiful, simple paintings on canvas often using polymer paint. Very
commonly, Stella s paintings were depicted on shaped canvases like his Protractor Series were
painted on semi circle shaped canvases. Stella had some more works, Irregular Polygons, that
were composed on shaped canvases as well, like the ones listed below.

Although Frank Stella is known for his abstract attitude and motto what you see is what you see, it
can be found that Stella did have an inspiration for his Protractor Series other than the mathematical
tool. When looking at these paintings, an element that can easily catch the eye is the variety of
different hues he chose and the intertwining pathways of color. Prior to creating this artwork, Frank

Network Policy Server and Remote Access

For the most part we have addresses the needs of our sales force on a case by case basis but going

The Statement of Health or SoH is generated by each SHA and is communicated to the NAP to

remediation the update is then also applied to the SoH. The NAP service will combine all of the
various SoH s that a client generated during a remote connection and combine them into the System

used to help replicate DNA, uses energy from the ATP to break apart the hydrogen bonds holding
the bases together. This allows for the two parental strands of DNA to unwind and form two

for the type of government that the U.S. is ruled under is a Constitutional Republic . A Republic

would see him overthrowing it. What was it that could cause Saigo to scorn the Tokugawa who
had successfully led Japan for so long? It was a combination of the Tokugawa s decline in
traditional ethics as well as modern relevance that caused the principled Saigo to watch its decline
with anticipation. Saigo s political career under the Tokugawa had always been tumultuous. From
the sudden and controversial death of his lord Nariakira to his exile to Amami Oshima, Saigo was
intimately familiar with the ferocity and dirtiness of Tokugawa politics. And yet in The Last Samurai
, Mark Ravina describes Saigo as a humble, principled, and deeply sentimental man despite his
physically intimidating stature. Saigo was a man who lived and died by his ideals of duty and
loyalty. This statement has quite a literal meaning, as Saigo s ideals are the only things that
withheld him from a second suicide attempt after Nariakira s... Show more content on

Spreading Disease In Developing Countries
Many parts of the world can be viewed as wealthy, economically developed and sustainable.
Although there are parts of the world that are economically advanced, other countries through out

There are different ways in which people test the quality of their water, an example being a water
testing kit. Water testing kits ranged in price, the price could vary from $20 $150 (Healthy Living

countries; but to third world countries, to earn $150 was almost impossible, and would take a life
time to acquire. Using these water testing kits one was able to see how much contaminants are
floating in their water (Healthy Living Now, 2012). Carbon water filters are another way to

From the time we enter a preschool program or Kindergarten, our abilities, knowledge and

Mexican Born Dancer And Choreographer Jose Limon
According to the website Biography, Mexican born dancer and choreographer JosГ© LimГіn is
recognized as an important figure in the American modern dance movement of the 1930s 1960s
(Biography). Jose Limon is one of the Ballet dancer sand choreographers in the 1930s. Even
though he is considered to be a Balletdancer, Limon is well known for performing and
choreographing a great amount of Modern Dancepiece. Jose Limon is significant to me because he
is the first Modern Dancechoreographer I know, and his representative work the Moor s Pavane
impressed me the most due to the plots and the expressive movements in this piece. After
watching the video the Moor s Pavane, it raised my interest on Jose Limon; it also motivated me

Police Officer Quotas
Sirens blazing as the man waits in the car with palpitating hands on the wheel as the authority in
blue with sunglasses walks closer and closer. Vehemently knocking on the window; the man comes
to see that a policeman accuses him of speeding. Getting a ticket for speeding happens to many
Americans every day, but one may not know that there exists a secret policesystem operating in the
background that demand these tickets, masked under mollified euphemisms to appear gentle.
Quotas, and the synonyms that follow it, determine a number of arrests and citations a police officer
needs to make. However, quotas impose necessities where it s not needed, causing police officers

In fact there is evidence of this happening, as a police officer in Michigan states we are told to go
to specific intersections, in specific areas, to get our numbers up (Wells). So what has been used
to increase productivity, has now become racial profiling. These intersections they talk about,
are neighborhoods with a majority of minorities. Police officers, with struggling number for
quotas, know that most of them won t have driver s license, that most won t try to go to court to
debate the legitimacy as they can t afford an attorney, so it becomes an easy way to rack up
numbers. However, this creates bigger problems, as most of them get the ticket and move on by,
and most will get caught again. Most of they can t pay for it so it will become a misdemeanor,
thus creating high crime areas. These quotas have enraged people, making police officers appear,
racist, and greedy for money, and will do it at the price of the people they were meant to protect.
Thus, truly the only way to bring back the trust of the people with the police department would be
to strip away quotas and to put more value on the work a police officer has done for their
community. A method better than quotas would be

Ancient Greece Festivals
In Ancient Greece, women were allowed to take part in nearly all religious festivals, and there
were even some restricted to only women. Thesmophoria, a great festival, is of significance as it
is a festival which celebrates a fertility rite for Demeter. Married noblewomen are the only people
who can observe and celebrate this festival. The basis of this celebration was women preforming
rites and celebrating on Demeter s hilltop sanctuary for three days. Sadly, there is little evidence
of specific rituals, there is evidence that pigs were sacrificed and buried, and the remains of the
pigs sacrificed from the previous year were then offered to the goddess. In general, most festivals
in Ancient Greece were to praise and honour Demeter, a selected few honoured other goddesses.
Other festivals such as, Brauronia and Arrheporia are also included, which are rites of passage in
which girls became women. The festivals that women were allowed to partake, or led, were
generally about a girl s development into adulthood, or celebrating their womanhood.
The Cult of Athena was an integral part of society on Ancient Greece. In addition to this, women
played a vital role in the cult. Athena as a priesthood figure was of great importance, and she used
her power to influence political positions. Lesser Panathenaea is the most significantly festival

Since this is generally a problem for all types of families in every economic class, the most
impactful factor regarding the lack of preparation for this issue is probably a lack of intentional

The every day struggle of trying to find your path in life can consume the mind into an over focus

Reflection About Friendship
My partner, Naeem Mohammad, and I met on December 9. During our last meeting together, we
drove around St. Louis and had dinner at Raising Cane s, while talking about college system and
family. Again, Naeem has greatly improved his English since our last meeting on November 18th.
We were able to talk more in detail about the Saudi Arabian college system and family back in
Saudi Arabia. This parallels a development breakthrough in my revival of Chinese: Siri can
recognize me speaking in Chinese. While not something I should be particularly proud of, I can
make this connection between this and development of Naeem s language throughout the
semester. He can hold longer conversations, and his vocabulary has improved to the point where
he told me that he can skip a level of English. This reminds me of being able to understand one s
strengths and weaknesses, because it can make a difference in how one approach life. This is
key when we discussed the above topics, where I rarely had to help him finish his sentences and
can describe situations well. Speaking of which, as Naeem drove me around St. Louis, we talked
about the financial aid system at SLU and the college system in Saudi Arabia, where I told him
about 97% of the students here receive grants, loans, and work study. In contrast, he told me that
not only Saudi Arabian college is free, but students also receive a $300 allowance per month. This
is reminiscent of when my father went to college after the universities in China opened after the
Cultural Revolution, where tuition, and room and board were free, and they also give a sum of
money. In education in Saudi Arabia, Naeem attributes this to not many people decide to continue
with college, and I can attest that to China as well, where education today is compulsory until the
9th grade. I perceived the initiative Naeem talked about back in Saudi Arabia to improve the access
of education to more people. It intrigues me how Saudi Arabians approach education differently
how the United Statesapproach it. As I am going into the medical field, I would want to note the
differences in how I approach healthcare. It is not a business; it s a universal right. I don t want to

Suffering The Pros And Cons Of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a program that can perform tasks that a human can do, like speech
recognition, visual perception, language translation. AIs have been a very popular topic in
scientists and engineers. An example of artificial intelligence is Watson, this program can answer
questions, Watson was featured in a jeopardy game along with two former winners, Watson did, in
fact, win first place with one million dollars, but Watson was only given three clues to solve the
question, the program was not connected to the internet. The program quickly outsmarted his
opponents, but had trouble in other categories, meaning that the program beat human intelligence
on the post topic. Artificial Intelligence will become a superintelligence because of the progress
rate, unstoppable singularity, and brain improvement. Although, the rate of progress will eventually
lead to an intelligence explosion, in which this intelligence will surpass human intelligence. This
means that the AI will start off learning like a child, the basic learning, read, math, science. This
may seem very basic, but once the program learns, it can move on, the program will learn much
quicker and faster than the average human can, they can adapt and comprehend things much
quicker but once this program learns so much, space exploration will be easier to do by giving
suggestion on creating an object or machine that can go into space and record data faster and with
fewer errors. An article entitled Weighing the

The Power Of Women In Kate Chopin s A Respectable Woman
The Power of Women
Before women started fighting for their rights in the mid nineteenth century, women were
powerless and unequal to men. Women have fought to have the rights that they have today, before
the nineteenth century women had no rights. However, this changed when women decided to unify
and fight for their rights. They were deprived of many things; for example, the right to suffrage,

to fight. Women debated that all these rights were necessary in order to achieve equality to men.

Susan B. Anthony was best known for fighting for fighting for voting rights, she had brought her
copy of the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution, which guaranteed the right of citizens to
vote. She had also brought a copy of the New York State Constitution (Pollack 9 10). However,
she ended up being jailed three weeks after she voted, because men interpreted the fourteenth
amendment as only male citizens could vote and women had no right to vote. Susan was ready to
fight no matter how hard the fight would be she was ready to take it on. Women won the right to
vote in 1868 when the fourteenth amendment was ratified; however, it was officially won with the
nineteenth amendment. It states that the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be
denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex (Ginsberg, et al, A27),
this was proposed in 1919 and ratified in 1920.
Women were not only deprived the right to vote they also had a wider pay gap and this was

Taking a Look at Audio Compression
Audio compression is most important strategies in multimedia applications in recent years. In
communication, the main objective is to communicate without noise and loss of information. This
paper emphasis the enhanced lossless compression and noise suppression in mobile phones and
hearing aids. An effective technique is needed to transfer the audio signals with reduced bandwidth
and storage space, without noise and loss of information in the signal during compression. Wavelet
transformation method produces better lossless compression than other methods. The proposed
method uses Haar wavelet and the algorithm used for lossless compression and noise reduction
are: MLT PSPIHT ( Modulated Lapped Transform Perceptual Set Partitioning In Hierarchical Trees)
and HANC (Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling) algorithm.
Keywords: Audio lossless compression, noise suppression, Haar wavelet, MLT SPIHT algorithm,
HANC algorithm.
INTRODUCTION:
Audio compression technique is increasingly becomes more significant in multimedia applications,
since it produce extensively reduced bit rate than the original signal, the bandwidth , storage space
and expense for the transmission of audio signal is also reduced correspondingly.

Tuesday morning the 10th of May had begun as any normal work day in our household. Pam s
alarm had gone off at the ungodly hour of five o clock in the morning and I had rolled over
waiting for my alarm to sound at a more decent hour of six o clock. Then I would start my day.
When we left for work that morning we had to stop and go back because Pam had forgotten her
office keys. She never seems to forget her coffee but the keys are another story. The traffic was at
a normal rush hour crawl as we headed south on Rufe Snow to make our way onto highway 121
towards Fort Worth and eventually to Texas Wesleyan University. On this particular morning the
sun had not yet peeked over the horizon. However, the glow in the few floating clouds was
announcing that summer was on its way and today was going to be a sunny, hot day in Texas.
As we drove to work we were discussing meetings we each had for the day and the workload that
awaited us upon our arrival. We talked about the not so important yet pressing matters such as
what we would have for dinner and if our schedules would allow us to meet for lunch. We had
turned onto East Lancaster and were headed east, less than a mile from work, when things began
to change. Traffic was moving a little slower than the posted speed limit and the black truck in
front of us made a dramatic jerk from the inside right to the left hand lane. I was about ready to

Suicide and the Harm Principle
The Right to Suicide and Harm
Suicide under circumstances of extreme suffering is the morally right action as opposed to the
alternative, living in pain. J.S. Mill s Utilitarian ideals provide strong reasoning to support suicide
in instances of severe pain, while Kant s moral theory of the categorical imperative provides
reasoning against taking one s own life. Mill s principle of utility is the maximization of pleasure
and the reduction of pain. Mill regards happiness as the greatest good in life and all actions should
be performed as long as they have the tendency to produce pleasure. Mill also introduces the Harm
Principle. The Harm Principle is used to determine whether coercion is justifiable based on the

Mill would invoke the Harm Principle. The act of committing suicide would be a self regarding act.
As the harm is directly imposed on herself, all other consequences of her action are considered
indirect as they occur through Jane s self regarding act. Hence, Jane should suffer no moral or legal
sanctions for committing suicide. Furthermore, she has evaluated her options and upon deep
consideration, decided that the pain of living with her condition outweighs the pleasure of living
with her condition. A utility calculation can be formalized to further justify her decision on
utilitarian grounds. (Utilitarianism)
For Jane: 1. Tendency to cause pleasure: 100 units 2. Tendency to cause pain: 50 units
For the aggregate of the other people affected: 3. Tendency to cause pleasure: 10 units 4. Tendency
to cause pain: 20 units
Hence: Pleasure: 110 units, Pain: 70 units. Perform the action.
For Jane, dying would be the ultimate pleasure as it is the end of her suffering. She views suicide as
the mean to her ultimate end: happiness. For Jane, the pain of dying is less than the pain of
living. After seeing her mother die from Parkinson s disease, she makes the valid decision to not
die the same way. She recognizes that death is the end of her life and the pain of leaving her

Computer Security And The Technology
Introduction: As time has gone on, society has advanced and the age of the computer came about,
bringing its own advantages and concerns. One such concern was the question of computer security
and personal information staying safe. It seems there has always been some form of computer
security, however this form is dynamic, always changing and advancing. This is due to the fact that
the technology that is made to bypass securityis changing and advancing just as rapidly. Such as the
progression of DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks, in previous years the attacks had a
maximum of about 10 Gbit/s, whereas now they can exceed 300 Gbit/s (Shorov Kotenko, 2014).
This constant advancement created a never ending battle between cyber security and the
technology that is meant to break past the security in place. In the modern age computer networks
are the focus of many attacks on organizations, institutions, and infrastructure (Shorov Kotenko,
2014). As computer technologies began to grow, the security of these computer systems started to
play a bigger and bigger role, and new factors came into play. One factor that completely changed
security in concerns to computers was the internet. Computers went from being arranged in an ad
hoc manner to suddenly being all connected over the internet. This brought about major security
concerns because individuals and organizations didn t want their sensitive and personal data in the
hands of others.

The Beauty of the Mundane in Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary
In Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary, it is difficult to know what to think of Monsieur Binet and
his lathe. His constant devotion to such an unrewarding pursuit would seem to act as the bourgeois
backdrop to Emma Bovary s quest for eternal passion and excitement, a polar opposite with which
Emma can stand in sharp contrast. However, it turns out that Binet and his lathe have more in
common with Emma and her rampant desires than what would first appear obvious. Binet s lathe
still serves as a background with which to compare Emma s quest for love and riches, but instead
of acting as a complete antithesis to everything she does, the lathe is meant to be subtly different ...

In this one sentence Flaubert not only gives example of how the works are repetitive, with
similar plots, and dying horses on every page, but he also manages to capture the clichГ©d,
melodramatic style of romance novels that makes them all seem the same. The repetitiveness
extends into real life as well, as Emma s love affairs constantly lose their fire and begin to

The feeling of superiority that the lathe gives Binet fits more obviously with Emma s action and
character. He uses his lathe with the jealousy of an artist and the egoism of a bourgeois (60). He
feels that his craftsmanship and dedication to the lathe make him superior to those deprived souls
that do not have one. We see these feelings firsthand when Binet suggests to Leon that he should
take up the lathe as a solution to his problems. When Leon admits that he knows nothing about
lathes, Binet replies That is true, and strok[es] his chain, with a look that mingle[s] disdain and

Omelas Utilitarianism
The Omelas behavior is considered moral through utilitarianism. In the textbook, utilitarianism is
defined as the sum of individual pleasures and pains. It is not my pleasures or pains that matter
but the cumulative happiness of a number of people (MacKinnon 93). Under this, it is just for
the Omelas to make one child suffer to maintain the happiness of the society. Utilitarianism is
better explained and supported by the trolley problem, a hypothetical case where you have the
power to allow a trolley to kill five workers or one worker by pulling a switch. According to
utilitarianism, you would not only be permitted, but required to pull the switch, which would result
in one death and five lives saved (MacKinnon 100). By losing one life

The Decision Of Breastfeed For Mothers
The decision to breastfeed for mothers is complex and multifactorial (Pairman et al., 2015, p 803)
and will be influenced by social norms, self efficacy, knowledge and both social and professional
support (Rollins et al., 2016). Support can be delivered by various methods and is based on
interventions that diminish the complexities and challenges faced by breastfeedingmothers
(Renfrew et al., 2012). Although breastfeeding is partly instinctive behaviour, it still needs to be
learned and mothers need support, encouragement and adequate management to make breastfeeding
a success (Stables Rankin, 2010). This essay will aim to highlight the benefits and advantages of
breastfeeding for both mother and child, and examine the support that... Show more content on

Breastmilk provides a number of health advantages beginning at birth and continuing throughout a
child s life (Kainonen et al., 2012; Pairman et al., 2015; Stables Rankin, 2010). The longer a
mother breastfeeds, the more likely her child will get the health benefits of breastfeeding (Rollins et
al., 2016; Stables Rankin, 2010).
The immediate health, wellbeing and survival of babies is affected by breastfeeding and thus
impacts our public health system (Pairman et al., 2015). Risk of morbidity and mortality due to
infectious disease is lower among exclusively breastfed babies compared with partially breastfed
babies (Kramer Kakuman, 2012). If breastfed, about half of all diarrhoea episodes and a third of
respiratory infections would be avoided (Victora et al., 2016) thus protecting against hospital
admissions (Victora et al., 2016; UNICEF, 2005). Breast milkis also associated with a reduction in
asthma (Oddy, 2013; Victora et al., 2016), protection against otitis media (Victora et al., 2016), and
childhood lymphomas (Guise et al., 2005). Due to the presence of long chain polyunsaturated fatty
acids in breastmilk, studies have gathered that breastfeeding can also improve brain development,
growth and levels of intelligence quotient (Victora et al., 2016; Huffman et al., 2011). Additionally,

Social Media Essay
Introduction There have been a lot of changes since social media has been involved in the land
of gaming. Games aren t all about the story or the quest, it has become more interactive digitally
with other members. This includes online multiplayer mood on gaming consoles, personal
computers, smartphones and tablets. Two or more people play the same game and
communicate, either using webcam applications like Skype or message through Facebook
Messenger. There are other great social media applications or websites used to accomplish these
tasks, but Skype and Facebook are broadly used. Skype having 560 million users (Skype
Company Statistics, 2017) and Facebook having total of two billion users (Statista, 2017).
Video games have come a long way from the beginning, players can now use controllers only to
connect to players from almost any country instantly. Video games range from health problems,
social skills, positive team building exercises, depending on each player and their own game
habits (Youngkyun Baek, 2014). Devices Smartphones have taken gaming by storm, with variety
of free and completive games which can share scores and lets users compete with their friends
and families or even strangers (Tews, 2013). Social media not only contribute to the provision of
gaming information to interested parties. Today, social networks are the platforms on which
games are played. Candy Crush and the replays of the original game that followed its worldwide
success, have seen video

Essay on Organizational Change at NASA
NASA Organizational Change
A review of the external and internal threats will help determine the weakness of the problem
analysis related to the launching of space shuttle Challenger. At the time of the accident, the country
was experiencing an economic slowdown. Considering the economic climate, Congress wanted to
know if the American people still support the huge requirements of the program. The government
ruled out increase in taxes being an election year. Simultaneous to the congressional investigation
was a launch of space shuttle Challenger. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration
(NASA) wanted a successful launch. A no launch situation might convince Congress to slash the
program s budget. Furthermore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other possible outcomes could have surfaced with the reframing of the problem. At this point, it is
not important if ultimate problem was one of the possible outcomes. What is valuable to NASA is
that there is free flow of communication among its employees who are receptive to ideas due to the
logic of any proposed outcome.
The group of administrators led by Dr. Loyal downplayed the technical considerations and
believed launch should proceed. It got support from smaller groups involved in the lobbying
efforts who naturally would like the launch to proceed as scheduled (confirming evidence trap).
Getting the support was a selfish move since the outcome would definitely be in Dr. Loyal s favor.
The internal goals of each group should have been considered in the decision. The administrative
group anted a launch while the engineering group wanted a postponement. Are they the only groups
a giant organization NASA has? Truly, other groups in NASA, with their respective interest, exist
and who may help add to the factors for consideration. On these bases, alternatives generation can
improve. Two questions that may have cropped up: Will a launch postponement result in a budget
slash? Will a launch problem endanger the very existence of the space shuttle program?

Hamlet In The Character Of Hamlet
One loses many opportunities every time they hesitate to act. Whether it be unintentional or not, it
all depends on the subject in question. In William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Hamlet Prince of
Denmark, the character Hamlet shows qualities that are evident in his soliloquies. Since the
beginning, Hamletis unable to control his emotions towards Gertrudeand Ophelia. He tends to
overthink, generating doubt around life and death. Though impossible and inconvenient at times,
Hamlet strives for an idealistic approach, such as justification for killing Claudius. Hamlet s
complex personality and unpredictable nature delay the commitment he makes to avenge his father.
Hamlet s emotions are comparable to a stereotypical modern day teenager. He can be very lively
and content at times, but also gloomy and ominous. After hearing that his mother is marrying his
uncle only weeks after his father unexpectedly dies, Hamlet becomes overwhelmed and considers
suicide: O, that this too, too sullied flesh would melt, (Shakespeare 1.2.133). He is restless with
the idea that his uncle is now sleeping with his mother. He loves his mother and does not have
intentions of hurting her saying, I will speak daggers to her, but use none. (3.2.429), yet he assaults
her when given a chance in her chamber. Similarly, Hamlet loves Ophelia so that Forty thousand
brothers Could not with all their quantity of love make up my sum. (5.1.285 287), but he physically
and verbally abuses her on many accounts. Hamlet cannot come to a compromise with his emotions
towards Gertrude and Ophelia, thus expressing feelings that are bipolar. In the end, Hamlet spends
time coping with his feelings of love and enmity, when he should be worrying about Claudius.
The more Hamlet thinks, the more prone he is to doubt. The thoughts of death continuously
consume Hamlet s mind. Unable to bring himself to kill Claudius, Hamlet questions his bravery,
Am I a coward? (2.2.598). He cannot find a reason inside him for not taking action, leading
Hamlet to question his morality: To be or not to be (3.1.64). Although he asks such a profound
question, it is impressive that he does not give a direct answer. His mind is so full of the reasons
to live and to die that

Forensic Evidence In The Article Jack The Ripper
The newspaper article, Jack the Ripper was a Polish immigrant Aaron Kosminski , published by
the Guardian on September 8th, 2014 suggests a self confessed armchair detective has solved the
mystery of Jack the Ripper utilizing a blood stained shall to obtain DNA evidence which led him
to discover the notorious killer. This article professes that the blood stained shawl Russell Edwards
bought in 2007 at an auction in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk was the key to uncovering the identity
of Jack the Ripper; Edwards stated, I ve got the only piece of forensic evidence in the whole
history of the case...I ve spent 14 years working on it, and we have definitively solved the mystery
of who Jack the Ripper was. However, Edwards claim is arguably unreliable and although the
conclusions are written in a persuasive manner they lack guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.... Show

In addition, Jari Louhelainen, an expert in molecular biology is susceptible to potential
inaccuracies and there was no mention of subsequent trails. Also, the auction may have planted
the evidence in an effort to gain fame and recognition. Furthermore, Richard Cobb, who runs
Jack the Ripper conventions and tours, told the Times that the shawl had been openly handled by
loads of people and been touched, breathed on, spat upon. Therefore Cobb is acknowledging the
risk of using contaminated evidence as fact. However, Edwards does disclose that Aaron
Kosminski was one of the six main suspects for the Ripper identified by the police but lacked
evidence to bring him to trial. Therefore, I believe that this article utilizes a persuasive tone by
encompassing forensic evidence and historical references. However, this article lacks accountability
and is somewhat fragmentary when revealing evidence and therefore is not one hundred percent

Henry Kissinger Influence
This responsibility is awarded a tremendous amount of prestige by the general public, but it
carries with it the enormous burden of making the difficult decisions when they are necessary.
The decades of the mid 20th century are amongst some of the most influential in history in terms
of political, social, and economic effects on later decades. It was during a period of less than ten
years that Henry A. Kissinger occupied a government office in Washington D.C. and so greatly
influenced the foreign policy of not just President Nixon, but all Presidents and elected officials to
come that were involved in foreign affairs. The foreign policy of the United Stateswas under the

Around four hundred years prior to Kissinger, the proverbial weight of influence and judgement
that rest upon a man in power was exemplified perfectly by a different Henry, Shakespeare s King
Henry IV, Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown said the King in regard to the difficulties that
accompany a positon of power.
Henry Kissinger if nothing else was a prolific mind, with an IQ high enough that would more
than likely categorize him as a genius he seems to possess an unrelenting drive to be the
smartest person in the room. Possibly a result of the constant anti Semitic harassment that he
experienced growing up as a Jewish child in Germany during the rise of the Nazi Party, his
motivation to succeed was quite incredible. He arrived on the shores of the United States via
New York City 1938 and immediately began working in a shaving brush factory to help support
his family. After completing high school in 1940, he went to the College of New York, however
in 1943 once he became a naturalized citizen, he was drafted into armed service. Ironically only

The Temple Of Divus Augustus
Zackary Marion
Miss. Jackson
World History
27 October 2015
The Temple of Divus Augustus was a major temple originally built to commemorate the first Roman
emperor, Augustus. The temple was built between the Palatine and Capitoline Hills, and behind the
Basilica Julia. The temple was built on the site of the house where Augustus inhabited before he
entered the public life around the mid 1st century BC. It is known from Roman currency that his
temple was originally built to a hexagon style design. The size, physical proportions and exact site
are unknown. Provincial temples of Augustus, like the smaller Temple of Augustus in Pula, now in
Croatia, had already been constructed during his lifetime. Most likely because of the popular
resistance to the notion Augustus was not officially adored in Rome until after his death. That s
also when a temple at Nola in Campania, (where he died), seems to have been begun. After that
multiple temples were dedicated to him all over the Roman Empire.
Temple of Divus Augustus. Https://en.wikipedia.org. N.p., n.d. Web. 26 Oct. 2015.
The construction of the temple took place during the 1st century AD. Having been vowed by the
Roman Senate shortly after the death of the emperor in 14 AD. Ancient sources disagree on
whether it was constructed by Augustus s successor Tiberius and Augustus s widow Livia or by
Tiberius alone. It wasn t until after the death of Tiberius in 37AD that the temple was finally
completed and dedicated by his successor

  • 2. Oliver Bruhl Research Paper Sitting in the very first row of the lecture theater 10 minutes before commencement, considering the most demanding question of the incoming lecture. Dedication? Nerd? No, this guy is Oliver the big versatile man. Oliver Bruhl is a current university student studying combined actuarial studies and advanced mathematics. Oliver was born on the 25th of October, 1997 in Armidale, Australia and had an enviable life together with Jeremy and Francos (his parents) and younger brother Jonathan. Mathematics and music played far reaching roles in his life and essentially shaped his personality. Since a young age, Oliver has shown an yearning interest in mathematics and his enthusiasm was recognized by his mother who advised him to become an actuary. During the career class in year 10, Oliver attempted a career quiz and that found actuarial studies to be the right choice. Because of the experience in such a logical subject, he started to enjoy working indoors so he decided not to be a paleontologist (although he still loves dinosaurs) but a mathematician. Through practicing demanding questions , his calmness has been developed, which is a precious strength for him.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His talent in piano won him a scholarship from his school, and he is an extraordinary singer. Oliver started choir singing in year 5 and stayed there until high school when he was the oldest and definitely the best one. Consequently, Oliver was nominated to a national audition and succeeded in joining in the smallest choir group (used to be 50, but only 35 for his year). The choir he participated in was international they did not only perform in Australia, but also in China (Guangzhou and Beijing). • 3. Essay about External Auditors Must be Independent 2001. It was the year that every individual; man, woman and children on Earth would remember. There was the September 11 event which was considered the worst terrorist attack that has happened in U.S. history, killing a total of 2, 977 people. And not long after that, in the business world, on December 2, the greatest corporate failure was exposed. The crash of Enronin US, followed by the worldwide collapse of its auditor, Arthur Andersenbecame one the most popular accounting scandal where it is still being talked about even after a decade has passed. Following this scandal, other massive organizations like WorldCom (2002), AIG (2004), and Satyam Computer Services (2009) shared the same fate. Since then, there have been questions being... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The presence of an external auditor allows creditors, investors or bankers to use financial statements that have been prepared with confidence. Although it does not guarantee the accuracy of a financial statement, it provides users with some reassurance that a company s financial statements give a true and fair view of its financial position and its business operations. It also provides credibility, where in business, is a major asset. With credibility, the willingness of investors, bankers and others to relate and undertake business projects with a company increases. Credibility is also important to build positive reputations. Internal auditors cannot effectively provide an analysis on the company s internal dealings as they are part of the company. External auditors, however, can observe these processes from the outside and then determine where the funds of the company and whether the dealings adhere to the regulations. Using external auditors in a company prevents conflict of interest from happening. Conflict of interest is a situation where an individual or organization has multiple interests and of those multiple interests, one could possible corrupt the motivation for an act on the other when the auditor has any kind of beneficial interest in their client s performance. In other circumstances, there is also the threat of familiarity where auditors become ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This can be seen through both the Eddie Mabo case [1992] and the Yorta Yorta case [2002] as although the cases had been concluded with final decisions, there were still measures that could have been taken, and areas where it could have been improved to achieve a just outcome. MABO V QUEENSLAND (NO.2) [1992] HCA 23 In 1992, the doctrine of terra nullius was overruled by the High Court in the case Mabo v Queensland (No.2) [1992] HCA 23. The Yorta Yorta people claimed native title to an area of land and waters in the Northern Victoria and Southern New South Wales. However, the High Court rejected the appeal, and it was concluded by the judge that the Yorta Yorta people had ceased to occupy their traditional lands with relation to their traditional laws and customs, and that the period of time in between had washed away any evidence and acknowledgement of the practise of their traditional laws and customs. In order for Indigenous people to prove their Native Title rights, they must prove that they have had an uninterrupted connection with the land and the practise of the traditional laws and customs has been maintained since time of colonization. This rule disregards the effects of colonization; that indigenous people have been forcibly removed from their homes, cultures being forcibly altered which all results in an adaption to the new environment and way of life. Therefore, the required burden of proof is quite discriminatory, making it increasingly difficult for Indigenous people to prove ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Effects Of Ambient Air Quality For Environmental... Problem 1: Ans: In the article, the author described mainly two challenges to the process. One challenge will be to routinely share data for these types of analyses at fine geographic and temporal scales without disclosing confidential information. Another challenge will be to develop C R estimates which take into account time, space, or other relevant effect modifiers. (Talbot etc. 2009) Though developing C R estimates using proper modeling methods are very important and will directly provide initiatively studying results, in my opinion, challenges regarding data collection and routinely share are the most important. To measure the public health impacts of ambient air quality for environmental public health tracking, both consistent accurate data and measure approaches are required. Though EPA has developed statistical based ambient air estimates (using HB model) for use in EPHT, the correct modeling and representative results are all based on accuracy data collection. From my personal experience as a biostatistician, if the collected data are not representative or inaccuracy, however well the measuring methods are, researchers will never get the real truth. Thus challenges regarding data collection and routinely share are the most important. They are the foundation of the whole study. Overcoming these challenges are more than necessary. More in detail, as described in the article the data collection and routinely share challenges are important and mainly from two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals. Knowing this, some people are willing to sacrifice everything in order to fulfill their ambition. Consequently, what makes a sacrificetruly worth it? In layman s terms, a sacrifice is the act of relinquishing an object or action that one desire in order to obtain something of equal value. Evidently, humankind cannot obtain anything without first giving something in return; which means that the sacrifice must be of equal value. A higher level quote that would fit into a situation such as this would be by Tom Robbins, who is an American novelist. Robbins once said that similarities bring people together on a common ground, while diversity is what allows fascination to occur. To be frank, Robbins is attempting to get readers to perceive that differences is not necessarily a negative thing. The two characters, although from different pieces of literature have a common goal, which is to be successful, but go about it in a different manner. In Victor s case, he attempted to be successful by reanimating life. The different accidents of life are not so changeable as the feelings of human nature. I had worked hard for nearly two years, for the sole purpose of infusing life into an inanimate body. For this I had deprived myself of rest and health. I had desired it with an ardour that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart. Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created (Shelley 56). The quote is significant because it depicts the feelings that Victor underwent as he was creating the creature and how he felt no compassion towards his creation, but rather utter disgust. From this, we learnt that the time and isolation that Victor sacrificed in order to create the fiend was of wasted effort. What makes the situation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing Henry VIII s Government in 1509 to 1514 to His Father s From the transition of Old king to Young king we can assume there will be lots of differences in the personalities between Henry VII and Henry VIII, these differences are what makes Henry VIII s policies and government different to that of his father. Henry s personality was quite amazing, his intelligence, learning and curiosity impressed the ambassadors who littered his court, and his thirst for knowledge was insatiable. He rewarded some nobility through Patronage, doing favors for others, usually titles and things which were free to give rather than his precious land. Henry VIII treated the Nobility rather differently, the first thing he did was to imprison and order the death of Empson and Dudley, two figures hated by the nobility in order to show he was on the nobilities side and so that he would hopefully gain support from them. Through Henry VII s time he never seemed to do anything which benefited the Nobility and Henry VIII wanted to clean the slate and begin new relations with the important and possibly useful people during his reign. Henry VII introduced the Acts of Attainder during his reign, a means of money and land confiscation without legal means and courts, during his reign there were 138 Acts of attainder, however this number was greatly reduced when Henry VIII became King. Synaptic plasticity is gained in result of developing neural networks. Synaptic plasticity, is the biological process that results in our ability to memorize, reinforce, and reintroduce information. Silent glutamatergic synapses are a type of synapse that is a vital component of synaptic development. They are present deep in the development of a young brain and account for and represent the early processes of the pathway for experience dependent synaptic development. Roles of SGS in brain development, addiction, and synaptic plasticity is still widely unknown and in early discovery. To date, researchers have uncovered the highly sensitive or plastic properties of SGS. This has opened new theories and potential for research and development in metaplasticity and the understanding of further chemical and developmental processes. Research done by Dong Y. and Lee Br. Hellish Interpersonal Situations by Peng Su Situations of unpleasant interactions between people are common even in our societies. At least each person has at one time has experienced a terrible or unpleasant interaction with another person. In the play No Exit by Sartre and the poems The Waste Land by Eliot, there are similar unpleasant interactions depicted. No Exit is a play consisting of three characters Inez, Garcin, and Estelle who are in hell damned in one room. The characters had thought hell was a place for punishment but rather found themselves in a room well furnished. However, all the characters refuse to admit to their damnation reasons. The Waste Land on the other hand is a collection of poems that delve in war, disillusionment, death, and trauma themes to show the effects of World War I. Therefore, the focus of this essay is to discuss unpleasant interpersonal situations depicted in the two texts and that are similar. In both texts, the characters were frightened by the interactions with the other people. In The Waste Land in The Burial of the Dead , Marie was frightened when her cousin insisted on taking her on a sled out in the snow and sliding down the hills (Elliot 5). Chrank Ctela Vs Frank Stella Kyndel Spoonemore Dr. Stephanie Chadwick Art Since 1940 ARTS 2305 2 December 2017 Frank Stella s Inspiration Versus What You See Is What You See Frank Stella is an Abstract Expressionist and Minimalist artist who is known for several elements of his painting style such as his shaped canvases and his famous saying what you see is what you see. In the mid 1960 s, Stella created a series of paintings, the Protractor Series, which are prominent for their semi circle shaped canvases that resemble a protractor. Despite Stella s popular motto, what you see is what you see, Stella did, in fact, have an inspiration for his famous masterpiece. Frank Stella created beautiful, simple paintings on canvas often using polymer paint. These separations of power, defined mostly by the written Constitution of the U.S., makes it so that any person who legislates, will face opposition in the event of a power grab, though it s worth noting that it s entirely possible for large groups to overwhelm this system of checks and balances. In any case, this separation of powers is necessary for a constitution, as it further enables a government to secure the natural rights of person (in the way of not oppressing those ... Last night at the Whopping Hill Manor, Sir Simon was murdered by one of his guest or staff at his famous annual business party. On the day of last night, every year, Sir Simon summoned twelve lucky starting businesses, fed them an extravagant meal, and listened to their business pitches about each of their products and chose one which he would fund. Were it not for a mix of external pressure and its resulting internal discontent, it is feasible that the Tokugawa could have maintained Japanese society for many years to come. The now legendary samurai Saigo Takamori would spend his youth under the regime, while his adulthood would see him overthrowing it. What was it that could cause Saigo to scorn the Tokugawa who had successfully led Japan for so long? It was a combination of the Tokugawa s decline in traditional ethics as well as modern relevance that caused the principled Saigo to watch its decline with anticipation. Saigo s political career under the Tokugawa had always been tumultuous. From the sudden and controversial death of his lord Nariakira to his exile to Amami Oshima, Saigo was intimately familiar with the ferocity and dirtiness of Tokugawa politics. And yet in The Last Samurai , Mark Ravina describes Saigo as a humble, principled, and deeply sentimental man despite his physically intimidating stature. Police officers, with struggling number for quotas, know that most of them won t have driver s license, that most won t try to go to court to debate the legitimacy as they can t afford an attorney, so it becomes an easy way to rack up numbers. Thesmophoria, a great festival, is of significance as it is a festival which celebrates a fertility rite for Demeter. The basis of this celebration was women preforming rites and celebrating on Demeter s hilltop sanctuary for three days. Sadly, there is little evidence of specific rituals, there is evidence that pigs were sacrificed and buried, and the remains of the pigs sacrificed from the previous year were then offered to the goddess. In general, most festivals in Ancient Greece were to praise and honour Demeter, a selected few honoured other goddesses. Other festivals such as, Brauronia and Arrheporia are also included, which are rites of passage in which girls became women. This is key when we discussed the above topics, where I rarely had to help him finish his sentences and can describe situations well. Speaking of which, as Naeem drove me around St. Louis, we talked about the financial aid system at SLU and the college system in Saudi Arabia, where I told him about 97% of the students here receive grants, loans, and work study. In contrast, he told me that not only Saudi Arabian college is free, but students also receive a $300 allowance per month. One such concern was the question of computer security and personal information staying safe. It seems there has always been some form of computer security, however this form is dynamic, always changing and advancing. This is due to the fact that the technology that is made to bypass securityis changing and advancing just as rapidly. Such as the progression of DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks, in previous years the attacks had a maximum of about 10 Gbit/s, whereas now they can exceed 300 Gbit/s (Shorov Kotenko, 2014). His constant devotion to such an unrewarding pursuit would seem to act as the bourgeois backdrop to Emma Bovary s quest for eternal passion and excitement, a polar opposite with which Emma can stand in sharp contrast. However, it turns out that Binet and his lathe have more in common with Emma and her rampant desires than what would first appear obvious. Binet s lathe still serves as a background with which to compare Emma s quest for love and riches, but instead of acting as a complete antithesis to everything she does, the lathe is meant to be subtly different ... (28) In this one sentence Flaubert not only gives example of how the works are repetitive, with similar plots, and dying horses on every page, but he also manages to capture the clichГ©d, melodramatic style of romance novels that makes them all seem the same. The repetitiveness extends into real life as well, as Emma s love affairs constantly lose their fire and begin to become routine, or, as Rodolphe notes, the charm of novelty, falling down slowly like a dress, expose[s] only the eternal monotony of passion, always the same forms and the same language (154). The feeling of superiority that the lathe gives Binet fits more obviously with Emma s action and character. He uses his lathe with the jealousy of an artist and the egoism of a bourgeois (60). He feels that his craftsmanship and dedication to the lathe make him superior to those deprived souls that do not have one. We see these feelings firsthand when Binet suggests to Leon that he should take up the lathe as a solution to his problems. When Leon admits that he knows nothing about lathes, Binet replies That is true, and strok[es] his chain, with a look that mingle[s] disdain and satisfaction (94). We began with my husband as the traditional breadwinner while I was finishing my college education. It was planned that we both would be working in careers before we discovered I was pregnancy with our first son. Three months later my spouse would suffer a great tragedy and was no longer able to walk, much less work. I would have to take on the role of not only breadwinner, but also caregiver and mother within the next year. Our familydoes not have the duel career supporting parents as suggested in the text regarding our ethnic statistics. Some similarities that our family has had with our African American ethnic families is that of the maintaining and strong ties to our extended family, as stated in our text. Our families have often pooled resources in order to support each other. My spouse and I have welcomed members into our home when they were struggling to find work. Our house guests have ranged from: his brother, my brother, nephews, and even a great nephew. Some of them have lived with us a few months, others have stayed a few years. My spouse s sister lives with her husband, his brother, and one of her daughters. While my mother lives with her cohabitant, my brother, and his daughter. • 43. Omelas Utilitarianism The Omelas behavior is considered moral through utilitarianism. In the textbook, utilitarianism is defined as the sum of individual pleasures and pains. It is not my pleasures or pains that matter but the cumulative happiness of a number of people (MacKinnon 93). Under this, it is just for the Omelas to make one child suffer to maintain the happiness of the society. Utilitarianism is better explained and supported by the trolley problem, a hypothetical case where you have the power to allow a trolley to kill five workers or one worker by pulling a switch. According to utilitarianism, you would not only be permitted, but required to pull the switch, which would result in one death and five lives saved (MacKinnon 100). By losing one life ... The Decision Of Breastfeed For Mothers The decision to breastfeed for mothers is complex and multifactorial (Pairman et al., 2015, p 803) and will be influenced by social norms, self efficacy, knowledge and both social and professional support (Rollins et al., 2016). Support can be delivered by various methods and is based on interventions that diminish the complexities and challenges faced by breastfeedingmothers (Renfrew et al., 2012). Although breastfeeding is partly instinctive behaviour, it still needs to be learned and mothers need support, encouragement and adequate management to make breastfeeding a success (Stables Rankin, 2010). The longer a mother breastfeeds, the more likely her child will get the health benefits of breastfeeding (Rollins et al., 2016; Stables Rankin, 2010). The immediate health, wellbeing and survival of babies is affected by breastfeeding and thus impacts our public health system (Pairman et al., 2015). Risk of morbidity and mortality due to infectious disease is lower among exclusively breastfed babies compared with partially breastfed babies (Kramer Kakuman, 2012). If breastfed, about half of all diarrhoea episodes and a third of respiratory infections would be avoided (Victora et al., 2016) thus protecting against hospital admissions (Victora et al., 2016; UNICEF, 2005). Breast milkis also associated with a reduction in asthma (Oddy, 2013; Victora et al., 2016), protection against otitis media (Victora et al., 2016), and childhood lymphomas (Guise et al., 2005). At the time of the accident, the country was experiencing an economic slowdown. Considering the economic climate, Congress wanted to know if the American people still support the huge requirements of the program. The government ruled out increase in taxes being an election year. The group of administrators led by Dr. Loyal downplayed the technical considerations and believed launch should proceed. It got support from smaller groups involved in the lobbying efforts who naturally would like the launch to proceed as scheduled (confirming evidence trap). • 48. Hamlet In The Character Of Hamlet One loses many opportunities every time they hesitate to act. Whether it be unintentional or not, it all depends on the subject in question. In William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Hamlet Prince of Denmark, the character Hamlet shows qualities that are evident in his soliloquies. Since the beginning, Hamletis unable to control his emotions towards Gertrudeand Ophelia. He tends to overthink, generating doubt around life and death. Though impossible and inconvenient at times, Hamlet strives for an idealistic approach, such as justification for killing Claudius. Hamlet s complex personality and unpredictable nature delay the commitment he makes to avenge his father. Hamlet s emotions are comparable to a stereotypical modern day teenager. He can be very lively and content at times, but also gloomy and ominous. After hearing that his mother is marrying his uncle only weeks after his father unexpectedly dies, Hamlet becomes overwhelmed and considers suicide: O, that this too, too sullied flesh would melt, (Shakespeare 1.2.133). He is restless with the idea that his uncle is now sleeping with his mother. He loves his mother and does not have intentions of hurting her saying, I will speak daggers to her, but use none. (3.2.429), yet he assaults her when given a chance in her chamber. Similarly, Hamlet loves Ophelia so that Forty thousand brothers Could not with all their quantity of love make up my sum. (5.1.285 287), but he physically and verbally abuses her on many accounts. Hamlet cannot come to a compromise with his emotions towards Gertrude and Ophelia, thus expressing feelings that are bipolar. In the end, Hamlet spends time coping with his feelings of love and enmity, when he should be worrying about Claudius. The more Hamlet thinks, the more prone he is to doubt. The thoughts of death continuously consume Hamlet s mind. Unable to bring himself to kill Claudius, Hamlet questions his bravery, Am I a coward? (2.2.598). He cannot find a reason inside him for not taking action, leading Hamlet to question his morality: To be or not to be (3.1.64). The temple was built on the site of the house where Augustus inhabited before he entered the public life around the mid 1st century BC. It is known from Roman currency that his temple was originally built to a hexagon style design. The size, physical proportions and exact site are unknown. Provincial temples of Augustus, like the smaller Temple of Augustus in Pula, now in Croatia, had already been constructed during his lifetime.
