The Importance of Heeding Literary Omens: Of Mice and Men The novel, Of Mice and Men, by
John Steinbeck, depicts the unfortunate tale of two men traveling in search of labor. Lennie Small,
and George Milton, born and raised in Auburn, settle in Salinas valley making their living as ranch
hands. Conflict arises as Lennie struggles to heed George s words and eventually Lennie suffers his
downfall at the hand of his best friend. John Steinbeck used foreshadowing in, Of Mice and Men, to
express and reveal the sentiments behind characters actions and personalities throughout the
novel, demonstrating the importance of foreshadowing to deepen the understanding of major
events in a novel. The author utilizes the setting of the book to foreshadow the differences in
Lennie and George s characters. Before they are introduced, Steinbeck describes the diverse
region of mountains and streams close to George and Lennie s destination. The area is separated
by a river with one side harboring, golden foothill slopes [which] curve up to the strong and
rocky Gabilan mountains, but on the valley side the water is lined with trees willows fresh and
green with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf junctures the debris of the winter s flooding,
(Steinbeck 1). Steinbeck uses the contrast in the opposite sides of the river to foreshadow the
variation in the mental and physical aspects of his two main

Mountaintop Removal Essay
Coal (n): A combustible black or dark brown rock consisting mainly of carbonized plant matter,
found mainly in underground deposits and widely used as fuel. This little rock is what keeps 39%
of our nation running. 10% of that coal comes from stripping the Appalachian mountain range of
her beautiful peaks in a process called strip miningor, more popularly, Mountaintop Removal. Coal
is considered a non renewable energy resource, meaning once it s depleted, it will not return for
millions of years. Once it s gone, it s gone. These non renewable sources are found deep
underground. Coal needs to be mined out, either by machine or by manual labor. The use of and the
process in which we procure coal is a detriment to both the environment and the people in said
environment. It is dangerous to the workers within the mines, the flora and fauna around the sites,
and the surrounding communities.
Mountaintop Removal is the process in which the top of the mountain is removed, as the moniker
may suggest. The layer of topsoil and vegetation must be removed and cleared away to reach the
coal beneath. The plant life removed from the mountain is labelled overburden and cleared away.
It is rarely ever used for any real purpose, and is often burned. The process of removing the topsoil
and vegetation leaves the fauna in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kentucky has done the most, by stripping 293 mountains, equivalent to 574,000 acres of land. In
these four states 501 mountains have been stripped, equating to 1,160,000 acres of land. A recent
study performed by Duke University researchers concluded that parts of the Appalachian mountain
range are at least forty percent flatter than they were just forty years ago, before the strip mining
began. This is due in part to the flattening of the mountaintops, and partially to filling in the valleys
with overburden and mining

Founder s Story 2. CONTEXT Hannah Ruskin started Swell Spaces in 2011 as an interior design
firm specialising in modern commercial spaces. Hannah comes from a background in fine art,
photography, and installation art. Her decision to move into commercial interior design came after
the realisation that she spent more time arranging the staging of her photography than she did on
the photography itself. Hannah started by collaborating with startups and tech companies and has
worked with over sixty clients including Stackmob, Shyp, Hipmonk and Softtech VC. They offer

there is considerable risk that the tech bubble will burst as has happened historically, putting Swell

Should The Government Have Too Much Power Essay
The ability to check power is essential to American society today to make sure that no person or
group gets too much power. President Obama made a check on the legislative branch, when they
proposed to repeal the affordable care act. Obama vetoed the legislation that would repeal the
affordable care act and stressed on why they would wanna repeal a basic protection that provides
security for middle class. This act protects and gives affordable health care and benefits to the
middle class with less income the availability to afford decent health care. Obama was able to veto
this act because the constitution gives the president along with executive branch the power to veto
a bill proposed by the congress. Constitution gives this power to the executive branch to prevent the
legislative branch from becoming too powerful or having too much power over the decisions that

No Russi The Modern Warfare Against Videogame Violence
No Russian: The Modern Warfare Against Videogame Violence
While the movie industry has powerful rating boards such as the Motion Picture Association of
America (MPAA) that regulate and censor an offensive product, the video game industry does not
have a respectable, official rating board. Instead, the videogame industry has the Entertainment
Software Rating Board (ESRB), which is a non profit, self regulatory body that was created in 1994
by the Entertainment Software Association. The ESRB esteems itself as the vanguard of providing
concise and objective information about the content in video games and apps so consumers,
especially parents, can make informed choices (ESRB). To provide guidance about age
appropriateness and content, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, while the liberal nature of the ESRB as a voluntary board existing merely for
guidance has allowed for much artistic expression in videogames, the lack of clear, meaningful
regulations have enabled 21st century videogames to not only tread, but also violate an increasingly
thin line of moral boundaries concerning artistic expression.
As the elevator was rising, Russian ultranationalist terrorist leader Vladimir Makarov gazed intently
at his comrades and beckoned, Remember No Russian, initiating one of the most controversial
moments of videogame history. During the level Remember No Russian of the popular first person
shooter videogame Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the player assumes the role of a deep cover
CIA agent, Joseph Allen, who is attempting to gather Intel on a highly dangerous Russian
ultranationalist terrorist group. What started as a simple intel mission led to Agent Allen
participating in an armed plot to massacre all the people in a Russian airport. As the elevator doors
were opening, Vladimir Makarov reminds the player and the other gunmen not to speak any

splattered all over the airport as civilians fled in terror from the oncoming slaughter. Amidst this
bloodbath, some civilians displayed altruism as they attempted to drag the injured to safety;
however, those self less efforts were trampled on by more shots and more deaths. At the end of

Introduction
SAA (Serum Amyloid A) function is similar to a C reactive protein (an annular pentameric protein
that is mostly found in blood plasma and its levels rise in response to inflammation. It considered
as an acute phase protein of hepatic origin, which increases following interleukin 6 secretion by
macrophages and T cells) but acts as an acute phase protein, which can be used as an indicative,
predictive or as a therapy follow up marker for many diseases such as Atherosclerosis, Rheumatoid
arthritis, Crohn s disease, and diabetes. As the level of the serum increases, the SAA is triggered
by physical insults to the host which includes infection, trauma, inflammatory reactions, and cancer
(R. Kisilevsky a, 1991). A broad response range is reflected by an SAA geneduplication, which
results into a cluster encoding of several SAA variants and by multiple biological functions of
SAA. SAA prompted chemokines in degrading enzymes through a Toll like receptors and it
functions as an activator and chemoattractant through a G protein coupled receptor. A persistent
stimulus in an infectious or inflammatory area, this will cause the liver to produce more SAA,
which will become an antimicrobial agent by functioning as a direct opsonin of bacteria (Urieli

Hydraulic Fracturing
The Split Personality of Hydraulic Fracturing There is wide agreement among most experts and
the public that the current energy sources we use in the United States are in need of a replacement.
Reliance on the fossil fuels of coal and oil are problematic for at least two reasons: their negative
impact on the environment (both in extraction and their use) and the reliance on supplies of these
from other countries, which has created problems on the geopolitical front. Nuclear fission remains
a controversial alternative, considering the risks involved in a catastrophic meltdown and the lack
of a long term waste storage solution. The successful development of horizontal drilling by the
energy industry coupled with the existing technology of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So what s problem? It is the coupling of the twin practices of horizontal drilling and hydraulic
fracturing that allows for the extraction of shale bound natural gas deposits. It is the combination of
those techniques along with the inherent properties of the shale and the natural gas bound in the
rock that has led to a maelstrom of controversy. Unexplained health problems, contaminated
groundwater, mysterious earthquakes, poisonous wastewater, and surprisingly increased carbon
footprint have all been linked to the modern practice of hydraulic fracturing for natural gas. What
are the facts backing up those claims? Is fracking hazardous to our health? Before addressing these
key questions, the economic and geopolitical benefits of our natural gas bounty should be
examined. The economic and political benefits of increased natural gas usage are frequently touted.
Since oil imports account for about half of the U.S. trade deficit (Williamson) then any reduction in
our reliance on foreign oil would certainly have some impact. More significantly, as McGlynn notes
geopolitical turmoil has put foreign sources at risk (1052). Disruption of these sources, mainly from
the Persian Gulf, continues to haunt the foreign policy of the United States. Our continued
dependence on this Middle Eastern petroleum pipeline paints our nation s administrations in a
corner when taking a stand against human rights violations, rigged elections, and other practices to

Since football was very popular at the time, tackling was too. Dr.Naismith didn t like how people
tackled each other so he made a change. If anyone was hit while trying to shoot the ball they
would get a free throw. This means that they would stand fifteen feet away from the basket and
shoot two shots, if they were fouled inside the three point line. Another thing Dr.Naismith did to
prevent tackling was he added dribbling. It was because the men were allowed to run with the
ball, and it was necessary to stop them. If he can t run with the ball we don t have to tackle and if
we don t have to tackle, the roughness will be eliminated (Basketball: a YMCA Invention 2). Also,
players would shoot three shots if they were fouled outside the three point line ( Barkhamsted

Similarity and Difference between Xi Jinping and Deng Xiaoping
China is a vast country, but its long and unique history is inextricably intertwined with the countries
and peoples of its near neighbours in Southeast Asia. China has been successful in relations with
Southeast Asia during the reform era, and success has been due primarily to the quality of
diplomatic leadership. Diplomacy involves more than the tactics and style of pursuing national
interests. China s diplomacy has involved dominant personalities like Deng Xiaoping, who is a

Limiting Children s Access to Internet Pornography
Pornography is one of mankind s most revered, respected, and repulsed pastimes. Adults can use
pornography to relieve stress, enhance their sex lives, or simply as a means of entertainment. One
of the easiest and most popular ways of obtaining pornographic material is over the Internet. The
only downside is that the Internetis accessible to children; therefore, pornographyis accessible to
children. While adults should have limitless access to Internet porn, minors should be kept away
from this concubine.

The Internet has experienced an extraordinary growth. The number of host computersВ—those that
store information and relay communicationsВ—increased from about 300 in 1981 to approximately
9,400,000 by the time of the trial in 1996. Roughly 60% of these hosts are located in the United
States. About 40 million people used the Internet at the time of trial, a number that expected to
mushroom to 200 million by 2000. How can it be possible to regulate all Internet transmissions with
user numbers at 200 million?
Another problem that arises is the fact that not all Internet sites can quantifiably prove that the
user wishing to browse their domain is of legal age. An annoy mailer can be used to hide the
identity of the user. Some sites require the use of a credit card in order to view its contents, but
credit card numbers are easy to obtain. This limitation of proof is being minutely controlled by a
number of sites dedicated to helping parents censor what their children see. This might possibly be
the first step in what will protect the American children from viewing obscene material. One such
site, Mcgruff.com, gives Internet safety tips for parents. It explains to tell children about the

Critique Of The Great Divorce
Critique of The Great Divorce The Great Divorce is a wonderful work of literature written by
C.S. Lewis about a mans trip on a bus to heaven and an understanding of eternity written form a
first person perspective. It starts out with this man getting on a bus with several other people on
it; to his surprise the bus begins to fly. After a while in flight the bus begins to descend, and the
trees that were once figures far below him begin to get closer and closer until finally he lands on
a completely different plant than Earth. One of the first things that he realizes when he, and the
others, step off the bus is that the people who he road there with, who were once full figured,
regular looking people, had now become ghost; man stains on the brightness of that air, as he
puts. One of the first things that he notices is that the grass and the flowers do not brake when he
steps on them they just wave through him. He bends down to attempt to break a blade of grass
with the result only ending up in total failure after putting all his strength into it. As they were
standing there, all of a sudden spirits (solid people) came out of the distance and ran up to them.
Some of the people that accompanied them ran back on the bus while other, including him, stayed.
For the next few chapters it is basically him eavesdropping on conversations between the ghost, and
the spirits. The first conversation is between two people that clearly knew each other on earth. The
spirit had been a

Adenosine binds onto receptors on the brain cells, which causes people to feel the tiredness and
laziness; however, because the two molecules are very similar, caffeine too is able to blockthe
receptors. The excess adenosine is converted into adrenaline which most people are used to
experiencing when drinking coffee, a sense of alertness and energy for about 4 6 hours. It also
helps the natural stimulants work better, so, in a way, caffeine is a stimulant for stimulants. All of
this information culminates in the fact that these stimulants that are activated due to the caffeine
are what cause the heart to beat rapidly, either too fast for the daphnia to survive, or just enough
that they are more active, like humans are when ingesting caffeine. Caffeine also causes hunger as

Catastrophism
for uniformitarianism can be seen in rocks, sediment, and even in fossil records (Baker, 1998).
The earth has different layers, and different things are buried within those layers. People who
adhere to the old earth secular view believe that different layers of rock and sediment were
formed over many years. Since some areas of the earth have many different layers, it makes sense
that it would have taken a long time to form. Other evidence exists with fossils (Baker, 1998).
There are many different species of animal that currently live on earth. However, fossils show
evidence of other species that are not currently alive. In addition, fossils are buried in patterns that
correspond to different time periods (Baker, 1998). They hypothesize that species change over time
through the process of evolution. Different fossil records provide evidence for the theory of
biological evolution (Baker, 1998). Although... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather than assuming that physical laws always operated as they currently do, some people
think that the earth operated differently in the past. More specifically, they think that there were
frequent major catastrophes, and that those instances are what caused fossils and rocks to form
in the way they did (McClure, 2009, p. 191). Since such catastrophes happened relatively fast, it has
led some people to conclude that the earth is not as old as scientists think it is (McClure, 2009).
Catastrophism also offers an explanation for fossil records. Different species may be in different
geological strata as a result of major floods (McClure, 2009). Rather than being in a specific layer
of rock as a result of living during a time period, some people think that fossils are in certain layers
of rock as a result of major floods. Water levels rise and fall during floods, which is what some
people have offered as an explanation for why there are different layers of rock and different
fossils that correspond to

lonliness, working all day and not having anyone but themselves to care for them or to care for.
Jhon Stienbeck, the author of Of Mice and Men, demonstrates that too much lonliness can cause a
person to live with the unbearable pain of knowing that they only have themselves, shown with

During the great depression coloured people were highley discriminated. In the book Crooks
said, S pose you didnt have nobody... a guy need somebody to be near him. Here Crooks reveals
his true loneliness by clearly stating he has nobody. Crooks is the stable buck on the ranch, and
completes the tasks that are too difficult for others to do. He is seen as inferior and is completley
unwanted, which leads to lonliness because no one wants to talk to him. He is never talked to,
so he is aloof and lonely and all he ever wishes for is someone to care for him or just be near him.
Another part of the novella Crooks shows lonliness is , long as you wont get out and leave me
alone, you might as well set down. this quote indicates that Crooks is aloof and unfriendly to
white men but, enjoys everyones company. That is because he is left all alone and never talked to,
so he finds great pleassure in the smallest interaction with others. Crooks tries to hide this but he
cannot because he is lonely some times he can not even bear it. Stienbeck demonstrate that when

He Violated Vivian Analysis
. In the movie, he violated Vivian s right to privacy and safety when he left her in the examination
room in a compromising position to go look for a female to be present for the examination. The
writer portrayed how he did not bother to cover his patient before opening the door and left her by
herself on the examination table. When he finished the examination, he mumbled to himself using
medical terminology that the patient could not understand. You could see the fear and confusion
on Vivian s face. The movie is simply showing how it is important to treat people the same way
you would want them to treat you and nobody would want to be treated the way Vivian has been
treated so far in the movie. The author portrays how important it is

everything sorta changed my dad called us and got in contact. We didn t live with them or go

stopped arguing, my dad had remarried and so had my mom. We were all a big happy family, or
so we thought... Things started to get bad again and my parents got into a big fight, things were

The Definition Of Being Tough
Many people have their different opinions on the definition of being tough. Whether it s being
physically, mentally, or emotionally tough. To me, in a way all of those mean you re tough. I ve

with no mother? Being bullied and still moving on? Being able to lift 300 pounds? What makes
you tough? When most people hear the word tough they think, being strong, buff, or ripped. For
instance little children tend to say, I wanna grow up to be big and strong just like Daddy. They don

The Appellant For Breach Of Its Duty Of Care As An Occupier
When descending a staircase to the appellant s ice rink, the respondent lost his balance and
suffered a serious injury to his right ankle as a result. The respondent brought an action against the
appellant for breach of its duty of care as an occupier. The primary judge, Levy SC DCJ, found on
the calculus of negligence, that the risk of injury from slipping when descending wet stairs whilst
wearing skates was foreseeable, not insignificant and one which a reasonable personin the position
of the appellant would have taken precautions. The primary judge held that the appellant failed to
give the respondent adequate warnings and that the appellant was liable in negligence for the injury

Similarly, Emmett JA found that if it was an obvious risk, it is presumed that the respondent was
aware of the risk of harm and that the primary judge was erred in concluding that the risk, which
materialised in the fall, was not obvious.
2. If so, was that duty of care contended for by the respondent to warn him of that obvious risk for
the purpose of s 5H(1) of the Act .
Meagher JA at found that the appellant did not owe a duty of care to the respondent to provide a
warning of the obvious risk, as establish in s 5F(1) of the Act . None of the specific exceptions

3. Whether the activity of walking down the stairs was part of the dangerous recreational activity

Meagher JA agreed with the primary judge, that the act of descending the stairs was not part of a
dangerous recreational activity but merely a preparatory act. Thus, for the purpose of s 5K and s
5L(1) of the Act , the defence was not applicable and the ground of appeal dismissed.

The Theory Of Personality Traits
The study of personality is very important in the field of psychology because it aims to provide
an account for individuality of human beings (Pervin and John, 1999). There are many
psychological definitions which attempt to explain personality in terms of characteristics or
typical qualities of an individual. Gordon Allport, defined it as a dynamic organization, inside the
person, of psychophysical systems that create the person s characteristic patterns of behavior,
thoughts and feelings (Allport, 1961, p. 11). Throughout the existence of this idea, psychologists
have attempted to find ways to assess personality, creating different tests and theories, for
example the Big Five Model of personality traits. This model, also known as the Five Factor
Model (FFM), included five main personality traits: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion,
agreeableness and neuroticism. The FFM was developed by Costa and McCrae (1985; 1989;
1992; 1997), who are argued to be the most distinguished psychologists in the area of personality.
One of the main criticisms of this model is that it isn t universal across all cultures and that it is not
the right approach to assessing personality among different cultures of the world. Culture is very
important in the area of psychology and there have been many definitions of it throughout the
centuries. Edward Burnett Tyler (1871/1996), a British anthropologist, is believed to have offered
the first definition of culture in his field of study. He

I Am A Physician Assistant
Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. My eyes started to lose the strength to stay open and my vision began to
blur. The tight grip I had on the anesthesiologist s hand slowly withered away.
As an active thirteen year old who spent his afternoons and weekends playing basketball, I was
taken aback when I first heard of my atrial septal defect and inevitable open heart surgery. I could
not fathom being away from the court for so long. But what seemed like the end of my passion for
basketball ultimately lead to a new passion to become a physician assistant.
Throughout my experience as a surgical patient, I always noticed three things my medical team
never failed to perform: inform, educate, and care for me. Through my frequent visits to the hospital
I began to notice that these ideals were essential in every successful physician patient relationship.
As I progressed in my career as a student, I came to realize that the academic and extracurricular
activities I was involved in were helping me perform those very qualities. I vividly remember
sitting next to my doctor with my knees trembling as he tried to explain my condition. I realized
that the ability to advise a young, scared, or uninformed individual was an indispensable tool to any
practitioner. Just as my physician was able to fulfill his duty to inform me, I informed others

Lab Report On Hand Washing
Lab Report #1: Hand washing is it worth it?
Introduction:
This experiment illustrates the importance of handwashing and proves that hand washing is worth
it. Since our hands are constantly coming into contact with ourselves and others, touching
surfaces, grabbing objects, being sneezed into, etc., keeping our hands clean is one of the most
effective, yet simple way we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. Many
diseases and conditions are spread by not washing hands with soap and clean, running warm water.
The human skin is a host to anywhere between 10,000 10,000,000 bacteria per square centimeter
and since health care providers come into contact with pathogenic bacteria by being engaged in
patient care, hand washing can reduce the risk of spreading diseases (page 3). The objective of the
experiment is to test the effectiveness of hand washing and demonstrate normal flora. This report
presents the procedures and materials for the experiment, the experiment s results, and an analysis
of those results.

Media Influence On Mental Illnesses
Vincent Van Gogh, Marilyn Monroe, Emily Dickinson, Beethoven and Buzz Aldrin are all
renowned professionals in their field of work, recognized and respected by people all around the
world. Although their incredible accomplishments are most memorable in people s minds, what
few people realize is that all of these inspirational, historical figures also showed signs of having
bipolar disorder.
When prompted about their opinion on mental illnesses, it is common for most people to use
words such as violent, erratic, or unpredictable. Hearing people jump to such harsh conclusions
about mental illnesses raises the question about where these stereotypical, and inaccurate views
came from. The simple answer is the media. With the world as technological as it is today, people
often become influenced or gain certain opinions due to what the media and press show as well as
hide from the public.
Often times the media s inaccurate portrayal of individuals with bipolar disorder is all that the
average person is exposed to. In television shows and movies the characters with mental illnesses

because of his history of tuberculosis and hemoptysis I believe obtaining sputum for TB is very,
very important. We should rule out any other endobronchial lesions as the cause for his bleeding. I
have discussed this matter with the patient and his wife. I have told them that there is the
possibility of observing the condition by x rays and repeated tests of his sputum. They understand
that this is an option; however, they decided that because of concern regarding his repeated
hemoptysis, they would consent to bronchoscopy. We will arrange for the patient to have a
bronchoscopy done. He is off Coumadin.

Summary Of To An Empty Page
In this iambic pentameter sonnet To An Empty Page , Robert Pack goes immensely deep into the
human psyche, exploring ideas of death and life, which are vividly portrayed by the use of
paradoxes, apostrophes, and personification. Pack presents a poem of contemplation analyzing the
aspects of life and death. This poem is especially interesting due to the poem being an echo sonnet
where a voice is followed by a response. Now, we do not know where exactly this echo comes
from, but we can infer that the echo could be orchestrated by the voices in the speaker s head or
possibly a deceased loved one. Either way, this so called echo is very dark and provides a
profoundly deeper meaning to the poem. The way I viewed the poem, I predict that the echo was
really the voice inside the speaker s head. Think of it as thoughts one has at midnight. The speaker
is obviously contemplating life and death, evaluating how they correlate into one large human
cycle. This speaker could have a mental disorder, such as depression, but we should not infer the
exact mental disorder that he/she possibly has. The reason people infer depression is due to the
drab tone of the echo. The majority of the poem, the voice is asking questions, curious and
seemingly adrift. The echo then responds at the end of each line with a one syllable word, such as
Grief (Line 2). As previously covered, the speaker is diving deeper and deeper into his thoughts
about life. This entire poem seems to set up a

Shakti Chit And Prana Essay
Shakti, Chit, and Prana
Every act, every thought, every activity involves awareness, do these actions instinctively,
unconsciously, and without deliberateness and awareness is consumed in the maintenance of the
Self. Perform these acts deliberately and with impeccable Intent and one increases awareness.
Shakti, Chit, and Prana are terms that have interconnected meanings; Shakti (aether) is the most
subtle or pure of the forces and is the original source of Chit and Prana, while the latter is also the
power that flows through the Sri Yantra when activated. Shakti is often referred to as Spirit,
Divine Spirit, or Holy Spirit in western esoteric circles. In Hinduism in it is considered the
primordial cosmic energy representing the dynamic forces that are thought to move through the
entire universe, a divine feminine creative power, sometimes referred to as The Great Divine
Mother.
Concepts similar to Shakti, Chit, and Prana can be found in many cultures; for example, it is Prana

Human s Selfishness vs. Sympathy in The Very Old Man with...
The Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, by Gabriel MГЎrquez, is related to the classical theme
of human s selfishness verses sympathy. However, MГЎrquez uses narrative elements such as plot,
setting, and different characters, to provide much more in depth sources of evidence to support his
theme.
In The Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, MГ
Ўrquez uses an Old Man who is supposed to be an
angel to display human s tendencies to show both brutality and/or grace depending on the
situation. The bizarre, tattered looking man with wings is found in a town to see a little boy who

The New Year Essay
The New Year is upon us once again, ready or not. This holiday seems to me the one that
provokes the most thought and reflection, which is a good thing really. We all need to assess
where we are in our journey of life and make adjustments. For the Christian, this is especially
important. Ephesians 5:1 2 reminds us to Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children
and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and
sacrifice to God. The past year has been a great learning year for me in the area of relationships.
I ve learned a lot about myself, others, and especially about how much God loves ME! Some of
what I learned was very disappointing as I saw so much selfishness in relationships. I know that
I am guilty of it too sometimes, but I just recognized it more, and saw the repercussions many
times. Those consequences are painful and the effects are trickle down. It has made me really
think about Love a lot more and how Love as God intended it to be should be evident in our lives
ALWAYS, and not just when it s convenient for us. God spoke to me about His Love through my
dog, Tracker. Yep, this is the Tracker story that I ve been meaning to put out there. This isn t
exactly how I thought I d convey it to everyone but as time has passed and I think about it even
more, I know without a doubt that the truth that God impressed upon me that night is what is most
important about the story. Tracker is an

visible, we might be able to get more people physically active. Increasing consumptions of
vegetables, fruits, and calcium will reduce your risk of many chronic diseases, stroke, cancer,
and diabetes. Calcium, fruits, and vegetables make your body stronger and maintain your body,

What Are The Threats Of Secession
Threats of secession were nothing new. Some Southerners had threatened to leave the Union
during a Congressional debate over slavery in 1790, the Missouri Crisis of 1819 and 1820, the
Nullification Crisis of 1831 and 1832, and the crisis over California statehood in 1850. In each
case, the crisis was resolved by compromise. Many expected the same pattern to prevail in 1861.
Four months separated Lincoln s election to the presidency and his inauguration. During this
period, there were two major compromise efforts. John J. Crittenden (1787 1863) of Kentucky,
who held Henry Clay s old Senate seat, proposed a series of Constitutional amendments, including
one to extend the Missouri Compromise line to the Pacific Ocean, in defiance of the Compromise

Impact Of The Dodge Plan
POST WAR JAPAN S ECONOMIC MIRACLE The Dodge Plan of 1948 In the year 1947, Cold
War unrest had started building up in Eastern Asia that prompted the United States of America
to revise its policies towards Japan in order to accelerate its economic recovery. The Dodge Plan
conceived by Joseph Dodge in 1948 was implemented as a solution to bring Japan back to its
complete strength and economic recovery. The Dodge Plan focused on resolving the serious
problem of inflation and establishing a more stable Japan through three policies. First being a
balanced budget, followed by suspension of new loans from the Reconstruction Finance Bank
(this source of supply of money was identified as the root cause of inflation), and lastly, reducing
as well as completely eliminating subsidies. The above mentioned policies were identified to aid
in accelerating the Japanese economy. Dodge s policies caused problems along the way in its
implementation but it created a path for recovery without the help of America. The Japanese were
encouraged to economize and accumulate capital through such a policy. The Korean War Boom

Combining imported technology with their domestic innovation was translated in the inception of
the Japanese low cost mass productions system. Technological improvements such as the one
mentioned above played a huge role in the country s economic growth, as improvement of
technology in one industry often influenced the growth of other industries. For instance, Japan s
steel industry was successful in improving the quality of steel used in manufacturing automobiles,
due to the technological process in the casing of parts; the automobile industry too benefited and
hence could reach a level where it could compete with its international

Polyatomic Molecules Research Paper
Pure substances can be broken into elements and compounds. Elements can be broken into atomic
or molecular and compound can be broken into molecular or ionic.
Elements can be classified as either atomic element or molecular element. Atomic elements exist in
nature as single atoms, where as, molecular Element do not normally exist as single atoms.
Molecular elements exists as molecules.
There re two types molecular molecules, diatomic or polyatomic. Most commonly molecular
elements exist as diatomic molecules meaning they consist of two atoms. An example of Diatomic
molecules would be hydrogen H2 or Oxegen O2. Secondly, polyatomic molecules consist of many
atoms, more than two. An example of a polyatomic molecule would be sulfur which exist as S8.
Polyatomic molecules are not common.
Content can be classified as either molecular for ionic. Molecular compounds are usually composed
of highly directional covalently bonded nonmetals. As discussed in 3.2 a covalent bond is a
chemical bond in which a non metal bonds with another nonmetal and it transfers it s electron to the
other. With that being said molecular compounds are formed by nonmetals. therefor an example

Ionic compounds in the solid phase result in an extended network of alternating cations and anions.
Also, discussed in 3.2 an ionic bond is formed between two oppositely charged ions. The smallest
identifiable unit for an ionic compound is the formula unit, which is, the smallest ratio of ions for
the compound. So the formula unit is like the empirical formula, which gives only the relative
number of atoms. An example would be Salt

Claude Manet – Impressionism – 19Th . Oscar-Claude Monet
Claude Manet Impressionism 19th
Oscar Claude Monet was a founder of French Impressionist painting, and the most consistent and
productive expert of the movement s philosophy of communicating one s observations before
nature particularly applied to plein air landscape painting. The expression Impressionism is from the
title of his piece Impression, soleil levant (Impression, Sunrise), which was shown in 1874 in the
first of the independent presentations mounted by Monet and his partners as an alternate choice to
the Salon de Paris.
Monet s aspiration of painting the French countryside drove him to embrace a technique for
painting the same scene repeatedly, trying to catch the changing of light and the death of the
seasons. From ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
35. Monet painted the subject twice, and it is unknown which of the two pictures was the artwork
that showed up in the pivotal 1874 presentation, however more as of late, the Moscow picture has
been favoured.
Monet has been portrayed as the main thrust behind Impressionism . Essential to the art of the
Impressionist painters was the comprehension of the effects of light on the local colour of objects,
and the impacts of the contrast of hues with each other. Monet s long profession as a painter was
spent in the quest for this aim.
In 1856, his shot meeting with Eugene Boudin, a painter of little beaches, opened his eyes to the
idea of plein air painting. From that time, with a short intrusion for military administration, he
committed himself to hunting down better than ever strategies for painterly expression.
In 1877 a progression of works of art at St Lazare Station had Monet taking a gander at smoke and
steam and the way that they influenced shading and perceivability, being here and there misty and
some of the time translucent. He was to further utilize this in study in the painting of the effects of
mist and rain on the landscape. The investigation of the impacts of climate was to develop into
various arrangements of works of art in which Monet often painted a similar subject in various
lights, at various hours of the day, and through the

Essay On Hamster s Closed Circulatory System
By comparing the carbon dioxide output of a cricket to that of a hamster, we observed that on a
per gram basis, the cricket s carbon dioxide output was significantly lower than the hamster s. The
difference in carbon dioxide output in the two species may have been caused by the absence of
lungs in insects, which in contrast, is a key organ of a mammal s respiratory system. In a mammal,
the lungs function in the respiratory system by providing a large surface area for incoming oxygen
to enter and the removal of carbon dioxidegas from the mammal s body providing highly efficient
respiration. In contrast to mammals, insects obtain required oxygen for respiration through a series
of small openings called spiracles that are found in the insect s... Show more content on

In open circulatory systems, blood flows freely around the body cavity; in insects, the circulatory
system is not used for transporting oxygen. In contrast, the hamster s closed circulatory system
separates blood from the tissues, and oxygen is transported efficiently to all of the cells while
carbon dioxide is transported out of the cells. Insects generally have a lower metabolic rate and
do not require a continuous supply of oxygen, which may explain the lower carbon dioxide output
(as carbon dioxide is removed from an organism s body when oxygen enters). Hamsters require a
continuous supply of oxygen in a systematic way in order to ensure that every cell obtains oxygen;
therefore, it may explain why the hamster had a significantly greater carbon dioxide output.
Furthermore, studies have shown that by exposing red flower beetles (Tribolium castaneum) to low
oxygen concentrations, they reduced their respiration rates to survive, which may suggest that by
having an open circulatory system, they do not require a large amount of continuous oxygen to
sustain life (Emekci et al.

When one thinks about horror movies a couple, if not one, comes particularly into mind. Exorcist
The Beginning, this demented film sent many to hospitals when it first premiered. Many till this
day name the film as a classic horror film. But, as it is known every beginning must surely have an
end. Influenced by the elder film, came a slightly more revolutionized twist. The newest prequel
Dominion.
Even at first glance the names of the two films differentiate significantly. It can be deterred that
both films will offer a dark and unique way of expressing the director s idea onto the big screen.
Firstly, the original film is not able to be copied and displayed its own uniqueness. In the time it

impossible for them to manage. The police officersmain hurdle is his own lack of modern policing

South Africa has failed to promote a safe sex campaign effectively. More than 1,500 South
Africans a day are infected with HIV. Uganda, who has fewer resources than South Africa,
reduced HIV frequency by half by their successful anti aids campaign with use of education as
the main method. Mr. Mbeki should use the Uganda method and urge people to sleep around less
and use condom more. There was almost no sex education at all in South African schools for a
long time, and is only in the last couple of years it has dramatically increased.
South Africa should focus their efforts on the young; most children under the age of 15 do not
have sex yet and are not infected, those are the once to reach. And it did not help that Mr. Mbeki
for a long time took advise from quot;scientist quot; that argued that HIV did not cause AIDS. Mr.
Mbeki finally has come to his right mind and believes that HIV does indeed cause AIDS. South
Africa, with its advanced industries has started to suffer a shortage of skilled manpower because of
AIDS.
Companies have started to inform and raise awareness of AIDS among their workers because the

Exophthalmic Goiter
Exophthalmic goiter, more popularly known as Graves disease, is an autoimmune disease where
too much activity of the thyroid gland leads to the overproduction of thyroid hormones such as T3

mistakenly identifying healthy cells as foreign invaders and attacking them (Lam, 2015). This
disease affects the thyroidgland, an organ located at the base of the neck just below the Adam s
apple. The thyroid gland is a crucial component of the endocrine system, which is responsible for
the regulation of a person s metabolism by releasing hormones into the bloodstream. Since the

The main goal of the treatment is to control the over production o thyroid hormones. The anti
thyroid medications, for instance, have methimazole and propylthiouracil (PTU), which blocks the
production of hormones of the thyroid gland. However, there could be some side effects such as
allergies and hyperthyroidism may return if the drug is not being used. Sometimes, radioactive
iodine treatment is preferred by doctor because it provides a long term solution, unlike the
medications. According to Toft, Radioactive iodine works by destroying thyroid tissue cells,
thereby reducing your thyroid hormone levels. RAI is usually given as a capsule or in a water
based solution, and the treatment may take months to be effective. The last type of treatment is the
thyroidectomy, which is a surgery. The removal of the thyroid gland may be required for some
patients that cannot take or tolerate the medications or when those medications have no effect in
controlling the overproduction of T3 and T4. Although the total removal of the thyroid gland treats
most of the patients, the surgery always results in hypothyroidism, which is a condition where the
body lacks sufficient thyroid hormones. In this case, patients that undergo total thyroidectomy need
to intake a daily

Francisco Goya Research Paper
The French Revolution, which was a critical period of reformation, was an era in which war
happened frequently. Francisco JosГ© de Goya y Lucientes was an important artist of that time,
who created many artwork that portrayed wars. In the analysis of his masterpieces, people can find
his disappointment in how people pursue freedom, their ignorance, and the brutality of the wars.
Freedom was one of the main ideas in French Revolution, but in Goya s painting, he was
disappointed in how the society fought for it. In his artwork, he showed the stupidity of how
people pursued freedom during that period. In The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters (1797
1798), Goya used the mocking owls and bats to imply folly and ignorance, while the lynx stayed

In The Disasters of War (1810 1820), he showed how brutal the French were in the invasion of
Spain. In the early plates of the series, Goya depicted the dead and injured are carried away,
soldiers strip corpses, which are then thrown into a common grave in the Plate 18 Bury them and
keep quiet (Tomlinson 1994, p.191). This picture wholly described how the war looked in Spain
during that time: how people were killed and then buried like it was a normal scenario. The
ruthlessness of the French also sent out another message that beauty is not only destroyed, but
grotesquely ravaged to attest the end of any faith in an ideal (p.193). In the paintings, people lost
their dignity, and there are no heroes countless unidentified victims in the picture, which indicate
that humanity is only ideal in the Revolution (p.202). The hand gestures in the paintings are in
motion, which emphasized the instantaneity of the climax. For example, in the painting, the
soldiers are holding arms and already stabbing it into the victims. The capture of the particular
moment reinforce the brutality of people in that

Romanticism Was The Period Of The Literary Movement Of...
1783 1830 was the period of the literary movement of Romanticism which was originated in Europe
(wiki). The Romantic Movement was partly aroused as a reaction from the Industrial Revolution.
Romanticism appeared as a movement which aimed to reject many subjects such as spirits, souls,
and instincts from the previous Enlightenment movement and discuss subjects associated with
liberalism, radicalism, and nationalism (Nichols, A., 2005). This movement emphasizes on the
sources of aesthetic experience, emotions, beauty and sublimity of nature. One of the most obvious
principles in this literary movement is the freedom of the poets to express themselves and their
feelings. It was considered that in order for poets to express their true feelings, they have to be
creative, imaginative and isolated. And the second obvious principle in this literary movement was
the principle of genius, which means creation from nothingness, and that was the key of this
movement (Waterhouse, 1926; Smith, 1924).
In that period, poets seemed to be using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

human being. In these lines, Shelley believes that he was caught in nature with its terrifying giant
wonders; then he personifies the big mountain and he also indicates that the mountain is too big to

understanding nature of the power of the everlasting universe of things by using metaphor as in the

Saint Sernin Of Toulouse And Notre Dame Of Paris Essay
Saint Sernin of Toulouse and Notre Dame of Paris
When one thinks of St. Sernin and Notre Dame, one tends to think of two beautiful cathedrals, not
to churches that portray two totally different styles of architecture. Those two styles are, of course,
Romanesque in St. Sernin and the Gothic style of Notre Dame. Some characteristics that these two
buildings share include quest for height, basic floor plan, and artistic flair. The period of
Romanesque architecture, which lasted roughly from 1050 A.D. to 1150
A.D., concentrated mainly on achieving massive proportions, rounded vaulted bays, the round arch,
the wall buttress, cylindrical apse and chapels, and towers.
Early Gothic architecture, which began in 1144 with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cathedrals were designed to draw vast numbers of people them, therefore they were built so
that one might not only come to worship, but to see the beauty of the structure. Even to this day
people are in awe of these building, and come more to stare at their beauty than to worship God.
Regardless of how many likeness we are able to find between the
Romanesque style of St. Sernin and the Gothic style of Notre Dame, it is the difference that make
them so amazing. In my opinion there are three major differences in Early Gothic and
Romanesque styles of architecture. These are the differences in buttresses, the use of towers, and
the use of windows. From the exterior, one of the first differences one would notice is the use of
flying buttresses in Gothic architecture. Where in Romanesque buildings, standard buttresses would
have been used, the buttresses on Gothic buildings were detached from the building. This created a
more open essence to the church and in my opinion a more spiritual look. As far as the towers go, in
Romanesque structure the towers were used as a more central figure, while in
Gothic construction, the towers were used more as an entrance structure. Most importantly though,
is the different use of light. In Romanesque structures, as is obvious in St. Sernin, it was realized
that in a structure as big as a cathedral, much light was

author s pride of different elements such as race, politics and culture. Throughout the poem the
author gives several descriptions and manly focuses on not only herself living in a borderland, but

races. Anzaldua defines her life as a mestiza like being a person who transcends borders, and as

It is a powerful poem that exposes readers to a new paradigm (Michael 4). The author also
expresses what mentality women have, in wanting to be in several cultures simultaneously. In the
first line of the poem, AnzaldГєa, clearly states that a woman can not be defined as belonging to
one race or another. The poem talks about how different people see their own racial identity.
Identity is important and relevant because of how we view today s notion of real Americans. The
United States is a fairly young country in comparison to other countries. Families in the United
States have been around for several generations, and we know that people will often ask
themselves where their roots actually come from, and are willing to learn more about themselves.
Intermarriages have caused people to have different identities or ethnicities such as Chicano,
mestizo, Hispanic and several others (Holmgren 6). As we know, there are many cultures in the
world, and in countries like the United States and Mexico people will often wonder where their
family comes from and wil start to think that their culture makes them different to other people.
Anzaldua makes us realize that these thoughts are not really true and that no matter what culture
they are from, everyone will always be the

  • 2. Heeding Literary Omens In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men Preciado 1 Lizeth Preciado Deborah Sidler Pre AP English 9: 2A December 1st, 2017 The Importance of Heeding Literary Omens: Of Mice and Men The novel, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, depicts the unfortunate tale of two men traveling in search of labor. Lennie Small, and George Milton, born and raised in Auburn, settle in Salinas valley making their living as ranch hands. Conflict arises as Lennie struggles to heed George s words and eventually Lennie suffers his downfall at the hand of his best friend. John Steinbeck used foreshadowing in, Of Mice and Men, to express and reveal the sentiments behind characters actions and personalities throughout the novel, demonstrating the importance of foreshadowing to deepen the understanding of major events in a novel. The author utilizes the setting of the book to foreshadow the differences in Lennie and George s characters. Before they are introduced, Steinbeck describes the diverse region of mountains and streams close to George and Lennie s destination. The area is separated by a river with one side harboring, golden foothill slopes [which] curve up to the strong and rocky Gabilan mountains, but on the valley side the water is lined with trees willows fresh and green with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf junctures the debris of the winter s flooding, (Steinbeck 1). Steinbeck uses the contrast in the opposite sides of the river to foreshadow the variation in the mental and physical aspects of his two main ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mountaintop Removal Essay Coal (n): A combustible black or dark brown rock consisting mainly of carbonized plant matter, found mainly in underground deposits and widely used as fuel. This little rock is what keeps 39% of our nation running. 10% of that coal comes from stripping the Appalachian mountain range of her beautiful peaks in a process called strip miningor, more popularly, Mountaintop Removal. Coal is considered a non renewable energy resource, meaning once it s depleted, it will not return for millions of years. Once it s gone, it s gone. These non renewable sources are found deep underground. Coal needs to be mined out, either by machine or by manual labor. The use of and the process in which we procure coal is a detriment to both the environment and the people in said environment. It is dangerous to the workers within the mines, the flora and fauna around the sites, and the surrounding communities. Mountaintop Removal is the process in which the top of the mountain is removed, as the moniker may suggest. The layer of topsoil and vegetation must be removed and cleared away to reach the coal beneath. The plant life removed from the mountain is labelled overburden and cleared away. It is rarely ever used for any real purpose, and is often burned. The process of removing the topsoil and vegetation leaves the fauna in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kentucky has done the most, by stripping 293 mountains, equivalent to 574,000 acres of land. In these four states 501 mountains have been stripped, equating to 1,160,000 acres of land. A recent study performed by Duke University researchers concluded that parts of the Appalachian mountain range are at least forty percent flatter than they were just forty years ago, before the strip mining began. This is due in part to the flattening of the mountaintops, and partially to filling in the valleys with overburden and mining ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although business in this sector can be lucrative, there is considerable risk that the tech bubble will burst as has happened historically, putting Swell Spaces in a position of a shrinking client base. • 5. Should The Government Have Too Much Power Essay The ability to check power is essential to American society today to make sure that no person or group gets too much power. President Obama made a check on the legislative branch, when they proposed to repeal the affordable care act. Obama vetoed the legislation that would repeal the affordable care act and stressed on why they would wanna repeal a basic protection that provides security for middle class. This act protects and gives affordable health care and benefits to the middle class with less income the availability to afford decent health care. Obama was able to veto this act because the constitution gives the president along with executive branch the power to veto a bill proposed by the congress. • 6. No Russi The Modern Warfare Against Videogame Violence No Russian: The Modern Warfare Against Videogame Violence While the movie industry has powerful rating boards such as the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) that regulate and censor an offensive product, the video game industry does not have a respectable, official rating board. Instead, the videogame industry has the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), which is a non profit, self regulatory body that was created in 1994 by the Entertainment Software Association. Consequently, while the liberal nature of the ESRB as a voluntary board existing merely for guidance has allowed for much artistic expression in videogames, the lack of clear, meaningful regulations have enabled 21st century videogames to not only tread, but also violate an increasingly thin line of moral boundaries concerning artistic expression. As the elevator was rising, Russian ultranationalist terrorist leader Vladimir Makarov gazed intently at his comrades and beckoned, Remember No Russian, initiating one of the most controversial moments of videogame history. During the level Remember No Russian of the popular first person shooter videogame Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the player assumes the role of a deep cover CIA agent, Joseph Allen, who is attempting to gather Intel on a highly dangerous Russian ultranationalist terrorist group. What started as a simple intel mission led to Agent Allen participating in an armed plot to massacre all the people in a Russian airport. As the elevator doors were opening, Vladimir Makarov reminds the player and the other gunmen not to speak any Russian throughout the scene. As the terrorists relentlessly fired their machineguns, blood splattered all over the airport as civilians fled in terror from the oncoming slaughter. Amidst this bloodbath, some civilians displayed altruism as they attempted to drag the injured to safety; however, those self less efforts were trampled on by more shots and more deaths. • 7. Evaluation Of Chemokine Receptor Cxcr3 Receptor Gene... Yahya Bello To test whether chemokine receptor CXCR3 mediates gene transcription Introduction SAA (Serum Amyloid A) function is similar to a C reactive protein (an annular pentameric protein that is mostly found in blood plasma and its levels rise in response to inflammation. It considered as an acute phase protein of hepatic origin, which increases following interleukin 6 secretion by macrophages and T cells) but acts as an acute phase protein, which can be used as an indicative, predictive or as a therapy follow up marker for many diseases such as Atherosclerosis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn s disease, and diabetes. As the level of the serum increases, the SAA is triggered by physical insults to the host which includes infection, trauma, inflammatory reactions, and cancer (R. Kisilevsky a, 1991). A broad response range is reflected by an SAA geneduplication, which results into a cluster encoding of several SAA variants and by multiple biological functions of SAA. SAA prompted chemokines in degrading enzymes through a Toll like receptors and it functions as an activator and chemoattractant through a G protein coupled receptor. A persistent stimulus in an infectious or inflammatory area, this will cause the liver to produce more SAA, which will become an antimicrobial agent by functioning as a direct opsonin of bacteria (Urieli Shoval, Linke, Matzner, 2000). • 8. Hydraulic Fracturing The Split Personality of Hydraulic Fracturing There is wide agreement among most experts and the public that the current energy sources we use in the United States are in need of a replacement. Reliance on the fossil fuels of coal and oil are problematic for at least two reasons: their negative impact on the environment (both in extraction and their use) and the reliance on supplies of these from other countries, which has created problems on the geopolitical front. Nuclear fission remains a controversial alternative, considering the risks involved in a catastrophic meltdown and the lack of a long term waste storage solution. The successful development of horizontal drilling by the energy industry coupled with the existing technology of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So what s problem? It is the coupling of the twin practices of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing that allows for the extraction of shale bound natural gas deposits. It is the combination of those techniques along with the inherent properties of the shale and the natural gas bound in the rock that has led to a maelstrom of controversy. Unexplained health problems, contaminated groundwater, mysterious earthquakes, poisonous wastewater, and surprisingly increased carbon footprint have all been linked to the modern practice of hydraulic fracturing for natural gas. What are the facts backing up those claims? Is fracking hazardous to our health? Before addressing these key questions, the economic and geopolitical benefits of our natural gas bounty should be examined. The economic and political benefits of increased natural gas usage are frequently touted. Since oil imports account for about half of the U.S. trade deficit (Williamson) then any reduction in our reliance on foreign oil would certainly have some impact. More significantly, as McGlynn notes geopolitical turmoil has put foreign sources at risk (1052). Disruption of these sources, mainly from the Persian Gulf, continues to haunt the foreign policy of the United States. Our continued dependence on this Middle Eastern petroleum pipeline paints our nation s administrations in a corner when taking a stand against human rights violations, rigged elections, and other practices to which our ... Adults can use pornography to relieve stress, enhance their sex lives, or simply as a means of entertainment. One of the easiest and most popular ways of obtaining pornographic material is over the Internet. The only downside is that the Internetis accessible to children; therefore, pornographyis accessible to children. While adults should have limitless access to Internet porn, minors should be kept away from this concubine. Usage of Internet pornography grows rapidly every day. The number of host computersВ—those that store information and relay communicationsВ—increased from about 300 in 1981 to approximately 9,400,000 by the time of the trial in 1996. Roughly 60% of these hosts are located in the United States. About 40 million people used the Internet at the time of trial, a number that expected to mushroom to 200 million by 2000. How can it be possible to regulate all Internet transmissions with user numbers at 200 million? Another problem that arises is the fact that not all Internet sites can quantifiably prove that the user wishing to browse their domain is of legal age. An annoy mailer can be used to hide the identity of the user. Some sites require the use of a credit card in order to view its contents, but credit card numbers are easy to obtain. This limitation of proof is being minutely controlled by a number of sites dedicated to helping parents censor what their children see. This might possibly be the first step in what will protect the American children from viewing obscene material. One such site, Mcgruff.com, gives Internet safety tips for parents. It explains to tell children about the Internet, and how to let parents know if there are any materials or persons online that makes a child feel uncomfortable. • 17. Critique Of The Great Divorce Critique of The Great Divorce The Great Divorce is a wonderful work of literature written by C.S. Lewis about a mans trip on a bus to heaven and an understanding of eternity written form a first person perspective. It starts out with this man getting on a bus with several other people on it; to his surprise the bus begins to fly. After a while in flight the bus begins to descend, and the trees that were once figures far below him begin to get closer and closer until finally he lands on a completely different plant than Earth. One of the first things that he realizes when he, and the others, step off the bus is that the people who he road there with, who were once full figured, regular looking people, had now become ghost; man stains on the brightness of that air, as he puts. One of the first things that he notices is that the grass and the flowers do not brake when he steps on them they just wave through him. He bends down to attempt to break a blade of grass with the result only ending up in total failure after putting all his strength into it. As they were standing there, all of a sudden spirits (solid people) came out of the distance and ran up to them. Some of the people that accompanied them ran back on the bus while other, including him, stayed. For the next few chapters it is basically him eavesdropping on conversations between the ghost, and the spirits. The first conversation is between two people that clearly knew each other on earth. • 20. Catastrophism for uniformitarianism can be seen in rocks, sediment, and even in fossil records (Baker, 1998). The earth has different layers, and different things are buried within those layers. People who adhere to the old earth secular view believe that different layers of rock and sediment were formed over many years. Since some areas of the earth have many different layers, it makes sense that it would have taken a long time to form. Other evidence exists with fossils (Baker, 1998). There are many different species of animal that currently live on earth. However, fossils show evidence of other species that are not currently alive. In addition, fossils are buried in patterns that correspond to different time periods (Baker, 1998). They hypothesize that species change over time through the process of evolution. Different fossil records provide evidence for the theory of biological evolution (Baker, 1998). Although... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather than assuming that physical laws always operated as they currently do, some people think that the earth operated differently in the past. More specifically, they think that there were frequent major catastrophes, and that those instances are what caused fossils and rocks to form in the way they did (McClure, 2009, p. 191). Since such catastrophes happened relatively fast, it has led some people to conclude that the earth is not as old as scientists think it is (McClure, 2009). Catastrophism also offers an explanation for fossil records. Different species may be in different geological strata as a result of major floods (McClure, 2009). Rather than being in a specific layer of rock as a result of living during a time period, some people think that fossils are in certain layers of rock as a result of major floods. Water levels rise and fall during floods, which is what some people have offered as an explanation for why there are different layers of rock and different fossils that correspond to ... • 29. The Theory Of Personality Traits The study of personality is very important in the field of psychology because it aims to provide an account for individuality of human beings (Pervin and John, 1999). There are many psychological definitions which attempt to explain personality in terms of characteristics or typical qualities of an individual. Gordon Allport, defined it as a dynamic organization, inside the person, of psychophysical systems that create the person s characteristic patterns of behavior, thoughts and feelings (Allport, 1961, p. 11). Throughout the existence of this idea, psychologists have attempted to find ways to assess personality, creating different tests and theories, for example the Big Five Model of personality traits. This model, also known as the Five Factor Model (FFM), included five main personality traits: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism. The FFM was developed by Costa and McCrae (1985; 1989; 1992; 1997), who are argued to be the most distinguished psychologists in the area of personality. One of the main criticisms of this model is that it isn t universal across all cultures and that it is not the right approach to assessing personality among different cultures of the world. Culture is very important in the area of psychology and there have been many definitions of it throughout the centuries. Edward Burnett Tyler (1871/1996), a British anthropologist, is believed to have offered the first definition of culture in his field of study. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since our hands are constantly coming into contact with ourselves and others, touching surfaces, grabbing objects, being sneezed into, etc., keeping our hands clean is one of the most effective, yet simple way we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. Many diseases and conditions are spread by not washing hands with soap and clean, running warm water. The human skin is a host to anywhere between 10,000 10,000,000 bacteria per square centimeter and since health care providers come into contact with pathogenic bacteria by being engaged in patient care, hand washing can reduce the risk of spreading diseases (page 3). Summary Of To An Empty Page In this iambic pentameter sonnet To An Empty Page , Robert Pack goes immensely deep into the human psyche, exploring ideas of death and life, which are vividly portrayed by the use of paradoxes, apostrophes, and personification. Pack presents a poem of contemplation analyzing the aspects of life and death. This poem is especially interesting due to the poem being an echo sonnet where a voice is followed by a response. Now, we do not know where exactly this echo comes from, but we can infer that the echo could be orchestrated by the voices in the speaker s head or possibly a deceased loved one. Either way, this so called echo is very dark and provides a profoundly deeper meaning to the poem. The way I viewed the poem, I predict that the echo was really the voice inside the speaker s head. Think of it as thoughts one has at midnight. The speaker is obviously contemplating life and death, evaluating how they correlate into one large human cycle. This speaker could have a mental disorder, such as depression, but we should not infer the exact mental disorder that he/she possibly has. The reason people infer depression is due to the drab tone of the echo. The majority of the poem, the voice is asking questions, curious and seemingly adrift. The echo then responds at the end of each line with a one syllable word, such as Grief (Line 2). As previously covered, the speaker is diving deeper and deeper into his thoughts about life. • 43. The New Year Essay The New Year is upon us once again, ready or not. This holiday seems to me the one that provokes the most thought and reflection, which is a good thing really. We all need to assess where we are in our journey of life and make adjustments. For the Christian, this is especially important. Ephesians 5:1 2 reminds us to Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. The past year has been a great learning year for me in the area of relationships. I ve learned a lot about myself, others, and especially about how much God loves ME! Some of what I learned was very disappointing as I saw so much selfishness in relationships. I know that I am guilty of it too sometimes, but I just recognized it more, and saw the repercussions many times. Those consequences are painful and the effects are trickle down. It has made me really think about Love a lot more and how Love as God intended it to be should be evident in our lives ALWAYS, and not just when it s convenient for us. God spoke to me about His Love through my dog, Tracker. Yep, this is the Tracker story that I ve been meaning to put out there. Impact Of The Dodge Plan POST WAR JAPAN S ECONOMIC MIRACLE The Dodge Plan of 1948 In the year 1947, Cold War unrest had started building up in Eastern Asia that prompted the United States of America to revise its policies towards Japan in order to accelerate its economic recovery. The Dodge Plan conceived by Joseph Dodge in 1948 was implemented as a solution to bring Japan back to its complete strength and economic recovery. The Dodge Plan focused on resolving the serious problem of inflation and establishing a more stable Japan through three policies. First being a balanced budget, followed by suspension of new loans from the Reconstruction Finance Bank (this source of supply of money was identified as the root cause of inflation), and lastly, reducing as well as completely eliminating subsidies. The expression Impressionism is from the title of his piece Impression, soleil levant (Impression, Sunrise), which was shown in 1874 in the first of the independent presentations mounted by Monet and his partners as an alternate choice to the Salon de Paris. Essential to the art of the Impressionist painters was the comprehension of the effects of light on the local colour of objects, and the impacts of the contrast of hues with each other. Monet s long profession as a painter was spent in the quest for this aim. In 1856, his shot meeting with Eugene Boudin, a painter of little beaches, opened his eyes to the idea of plein air painting. From that time, with a short intrusion for military administration, he committed himself to hunting down better than ever strategies for painterly expression. In 1877 a progression of works of art at St Lazare Station had Monet taking a gander at smoke and steam and the way that they influenced shading and perceivability, being here and there misty and some of the time translucent. He was to further utilize this in study in the painting of the effects of mist and rain on the landscape. The investigation of the impacts of climate was to develop into various arrangements of works of art in which Monet often painted a similar subject in various lights, at various hours of the day, and through the ... Essay On Hamster s Closed Circulatory System By comparing the carbon dioxide output of a cricket to that of a hamster, we observed that on a per gram basis, the cricket s carbon dioxide output was significantly lower than the hamster s. The difference in carbon dioxide output in the two species may have been caused by the absence of lungs in insects, which in contrast, is a key organ of a mammal s respiratory system. In a mammal, the lungs function in the respiratory system by providing a large surface area for incoming oxygen to enter and the removal of carbon dioxidegas from the mammal s body providing highly efficient respiration. In contrast to mammals, insects obtain required oxygen for respiration through a series of small openings called spiracles that are found in the insect s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In open circulatory systems, blood flows freely around the body cavity; in insects, the circulatory system is not used for transporting oxygen. In contrast, the hamster s closed circulatory system separates blood from the tissues, and oxygen is transported efficiently to all of the cells while carbon dioxide is transported out of the cells. Insects generally have a lower metabolic rate and do not require a continuous supply of oxygen, which may explain the lower carbon dioxide output (as carbon dioxide is removed from an organism s body when oxygen enters). Hamsters require a continuous supply of oxygen in a systematic way in order to ensure that every cell obtains oxygen; therefore, it may explain why the hamster had a significantly greater carbon dioxide output. Furthermore, studies have shown that by exposing red flower beetles (Tribolium castaneum) to low oxygen concentrations, they reduced their respiration rates to survive, which may suggest that by having an open circulatory system, they do not require a large amount of continuous oxygen to sustain life (Emekci et al. ... The Romantic Movement was partly aroused as a reaction from the Industrial Revolution. Romanticism appeared as a movement which aimed to reject many subjects such as spirits, souls, and instincts from the previous Enlightenment movement and discuss subjects associated with liberalism, radicalism, and nationalism (Nichols, A., 2005). This movement emphasizes on the sources of aesthetic experience, emotions, beauty and sublimity of nature. One of the most obvious principles in this literary movement is the freedom of the poets to express themselves and their feelings. It was considered that in order for poets to express their true feelings, they have to be creative, imaginative and isolated. Regardless of how many likeness we are able to find between the Romanesque style of St. Sernin and the Gothic style of Notre Dame, it is the difference that make them so amazing. In my opinion there are three major differences in Early Gothic and Romanesque styles of architecture. These are the differences in buttresses, the use of towers, and the use of windows. From the exterior, one of the first differences one would notice is the use of flying buttresses in Gothic architecture. Where in Romanesque buildings, standard buttresses would have been used, the buttresses on Gothic buildings were detached from the building. This created a more open essence to the church and in my opinion a more spiritual look. As far as the towers go, in Romanesque structure the towers were used as a more central figure, while in Gothic construction, the towers were used more as an entrance structure.
