The Abolition Of A Person Through The Court System Essay
As America abolish slavery after the civil war, and thousands of African Americans were free to live
lives without the fear of slavery or undue punishment not all things turned out the way one could have
hoped for. Followed revisions of the 13 15th Amendments to the Constitution, provided the use of
exclusion through the criminalization of a person through the court system. However such rights as
described in the 13th amendment provides a claw allowing for racial divisions to persist in the
country. Such loop holes in the Constitution reduced freedoms by convictions through the legal
system. As described in the George Ritzers piece describing McDonaldization of mass plea bargains
contributing to the increase removal of a person s rights and exclusion from aid otherwise qualify for.
Such loss of freedoms through court sanctioned violations in America caused a national reflection of
American policies targeting black and brown people up to 70% more than whites. Reflecting on the
destruction of this clause in the 13th Amendment we ll evaluate why it was put in and what this loop
hole allowed the country to maintain. Through the work Michelle Alexanders The New Jim Crow in
2010 continue evaluates the relationship of vilifying or the creation of other ing in order to maintain
justification for targeting black and brown bodies, as Denis Childs describes it as, Natural born
Criminals. A level of state terror described by Childs through the US of mass incarnation in order to

A Canticle For Leibowitz Analysis
A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller, Jr., gives an undeniable analogue to our own society. It
deals with religion, science, faith, humanity, religious ethics, secular ethics, sin, redemption,
preternatural innocence, myth and these components interlock to structure our understanding of
society. It manages the embezzlement of scientific knowledge and superstitious methods for religion.
Miller s novel depicts the ascent and fall of civilization around a small monastery in a desert
somewhere in North America. The setting is very significant in which the monastery survives
centuries and centuries of wars and strife but is not destroyed until technological civilization once
again reaches it s height. However, the divergence of science and religion has cause humanity to use

Science and religion might be translated as different impressions of a similar source, and it is
distortions in those reflections that prompt to chaos and misery. Religion and science both have
defects that can imperil human progress if they do not acknowledge each other s elementary
principles. Religion is not only dangerous and misleading but...sentient beings are generally too weak
willed to reject it (269). When one acknowledges either science or religion with no endeavor to
accommodate the two productively, the final result is normally disastrous. At the point when scientists
and theologians take part in battle for the absolute entirety of people, nobody wins, but when they
engage in dialogue, the fruits are enormous. Science can purify religion from error and superstition;
religion can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes. It is generally suspected that religion and
science are the two ends of a sea, which can never meet, never join. It is suspected that religion is
totally faith and science is a strict scientific fact. In any case, then the truth

A Comparative Analysis Of Official Crime Statistics And...
To claim that crime is increasing or decreasing in New Zealand is a statement with various inbuilt
assumptions. Crime is not a simple notion to define, nor is it easy to measure. This essay will perform
a comparative analysis between Official Crime Statistics and unofficial measures, highlighting that
both methods are limited in reflecting the true nature and scope of crime, as the notion of crime is
contested.
Official crime statistics follow a positivist approach, assuming that crime is a static fact to observe and
measure. Looking at the statistics in isolation, there is a gradual decrease in the overall crime rate
(Police National Headquarters, 2014). Trends for specific offences fluctuate, as violent crimes such as
sexual assaults are increasing, while property offences are decreasing. However, this data has various
limits. Official statistics only account for crime that is detected and recorded. Crimes incorrectly
filtered out of the system or miscoded fall into the grey figure (Bradley Walters, 2011), distorting
specific crime trends. Crucially, because these statistics only reflect when a person is captured, the
dark figure all crime experienced by victims, but hidden from police (MacDonald, 2002) is
unaccounted for.
Secondly, the data is measured using a legal definition of crime. Yet the law is constantly changing, as
it is contingent on the society it is found in. The introduction of the Sentencing Act 2002 saw an
increase in charging violent offenders

Animal Rights Argumentative Analysis
What makes hunting and trapping for sport is that people that do hunt or trap are seeing these animals
as renewable resources. They can reproduce without the help of humans; however, that does not give
humans the right to use them as a natural resource. It is a failure to not treat them with respect. One of
the main concerns for defending hunting is that it is not different than what wildlife does to each other.
The rights view sees that animals not moral agents, and have different morals than what humans have.
Then only have to kill what they need to. The still cause harm, but do no moral harm in the logic of
the rights view.
Regan does take into account how humans treat endangered species. The rights view is not contrasting

Leaver culture considers nature in how it improves with the world around it. Ismael uses the story of
Cain and Able to explain the difference. For anyone that has grown up learning about Christian
beliefs, the story of Cain and Able is taught as a way that if you go against God then you get punished.
The way Ishmael explains it, is more about a difference of cultures. Able represents the Leaver
culture, while Cain is a part of the Taker culture. If humans look at the story from the Taker
perspective, they see how it is a perspective in the bible. The story makes more sense if it looked from
a Leavers perspective. However, Leaver culture is not fully gone; but Taker culture has taken a
majority of control.
Regan main claim is that humans are no capably of fully knowing when the animals suffer, but that
does not deny them the rights they need. Regan is searching for the answer in how to communicate
with animals. Ishmael knows that our lost connection with nature is due to human s own fault.
Humans separated ourselves so far that humans cannot reach that communication point with nature.
However, if humans were to be like Leaver culture, then humans would be able to work with nature.
At that point humans could gain the communication back to

The Zoo Controversy Essay
Everybody s been to the zoo; they ve either enjoyed a dolphin show, or fed the penguins. Zoos have
been a part of American culture for centuries. At first, a zoo could be seen as nothing more than a jail
cell for animals, but today, zoos are being completely transformed. What used to be confined cages are
now being revolutionized into acres of land for different species to reside in. The opponents of zoos
feel that they are inhumane and harmful to animals. However, zoos are beneficial for several different
reasons, including, animal conservation and captive breeding, scientific studies, healthcare, and
education. Daniel Martin, writer for mailonline.com, wrote an article about Angela Smith who works
as a Labor s Charities Minister. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Currently, animals in zoos are kept in well clean, vast areas of land where they are free to roam around
in a habitat where they feel comfortable. According to a TIME Magazine article, The San Diego Zoo
spent 3.5 million dollars to construct a mock forest for five bears (Gibbs). The exhibit includes trees, a
waterfall, and even an electronic honey dispenser. According to the article, [w]hen the lush exhibit
opened this summer, zoogoers loved it, and so did the bears. They shredded the trees and rolled in the
sod, (Gibbs). Instead of the small cages and foul odors that most people associate with zoos, many
zoos spend a large sum of their budget on keeping their facilities pristine. Animal habitats are now
bigger than ever, and more importantly, cleaned multiple times a day, along with the animals regular
feedings. This further proves that zoos have made drastic improvements over the introductory zoos
most people associate with. Contrary to what Smith believes, zoos are actually very beneficial for
animals, one of the main reasons being conservation of species in zoos. Since their beginning in
Europe in the mid 19th century, zoos have improved drastically; back then, zoos were merely for
entertainment, where as now zoo owners are more aware and concerned with the welfare of their
animals (Masci). With the endangered species list rising every year, it is imperative that scientists
remain conscious of the number of

all) of the five fields of social studies. The five fields of social studies are culture, economics,
geography, government, and history. They all have a huge impact on our country. Some even combine
and effect the country. For example, the history of African American culture effected America. Now
you know what the five fields of social studies are but now you need to learn about what each one

Government is the governing body of a nation, state, or community. When you hear the word
government you usually think of the capitol building or the white house in Washington, D.C..
Government can be defined by the people involved, the system in place, or the process in use. The
government impacts our everyday lives because it regulates different services that include protection,
electricity, health care, maintenance and water. The fifth and final field is History. History is the study
of the past. All developed countries have their National Archives and a historical profession, both paid
for out of taxpayers money. Those who study history, for career purposes, or just personal enjoyment,
have other reasons apart from this all embracing justification for natural resources being channeled
into the study of history. History happens each and every day and changes the country. It can also
affect the way we see the United States. Even the smallest things can change an entire nation. So now
you know how these five things that seemed so small affects our nation every day. They are culture,
economics, geography, government and history. You can always learn more about these five things
and to help change our nation. You can also make just as big of an impact as these five fields. Next

An Older Brother s Influence in James Baldwin’s Sonny’s Blues
In James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues, the unspoken brotherly bond between the narrator and his younger
brother Sonny is illustrated through the narrator s point of view. The two brothers have not spoken in
years until the narrator receives a letter from Sonny after his daughter dies. He takes this moment as
an important sign from Sonny and feels the need to respond. While both Sonny and the narrator live in
separate worlds, all Sonny needs is a brother to care for him while the narrator finds himself in the
past eventually learning his role as an older brother. When the narrator and Sonny finally get a chance
to speak to each other after many years, they begin to slowly open up to each other the grim reality
that they face. I said: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He knows his brother has as problem with drug addiction, but he does not want to see him give up
without a fight. He cares about his brother, which is what Sonny has needed all this time; an older
brother to tell him that he should not give up, that he should make smart decisions and make
something of himself. The narrator is trying to make up for all the time apart that he has spent from
Sonny during his time of need, and perhaps that is his way of making himself feel better about
abandoning his younger brother so many years before. Sonny has had a problem with drugs for some
time, which leads him having to serve a jail sentence. The narrator tries to stay oblivious, which is part
of the reason he turned his back on his younger brother for so many years. I couldn t believe it: but
what I mean by that is that I couldn t find any room for it anywhere inside of me. I had kept it outside
me for a long time. I hadn t wanted to know. I had had suspicions, but I didn t name them, I kept
putting them away (831). The way that he dealt with his younger brother s problems was by turning
his back on them. He knew that Sonny was dealing with heavy problems, but chose to look past them
and live his own life. He also knows that leaving his brother during the time he needed him the most
was wrong of him to do. The narrator goes on to say, I didn t want to believe that I d ever see my

It was one normal and typical evening, where I was bored playing with my Barbie dolls up in my
mom s room like every little girl usually does. My mom s room wasn t too big or too small, the bed
was messed up because I had used the covers as a Barbie doll home. I was wearing a yellow shirt
along with pink pants. My hair was down and all over the place. I was brushing the Barbie s hair until
the main door opened. My cousins Anisah and Muhaddes called my name like they do every time they

downstairs. I m here ! I said as I m rushing down the stairs to see them. I go hug my cousins while our

blue jeans and pink sandals while Muhaddes was wearing a striped tee with brown shorts and brown

Essay on The Dream
The Dream
In the early twentieth century, film maker and producer Adolph Zukor met Jesse Lasky, owner of Jesse
L. Lasky Feature Play Company. The two men admired each others previous work and, in 1916,
decided to combine forces. They created Paramount pictures and had one of the most familiar slogans
in the film industry, If it s a Paramount Picture it s the Best Show in Town . Proving their slogan true
they started turning out more than two pictures per week. During it s peak in the silent film making
era, Paramount was making 5 million dollars a year more than other production companies such as

even Nickelodeon shows like Blues Clues and Rugrats. Another fun experience Paramount has
provided for their viewers is theme parks. Paramount has theme parks all over the United States,
including a Star Trek theme park in Las Vegas.(Viacom)
Entertainment is not all Paramount has provided for the telecommunications and film industry. Since
the company began, the decisions it has made have influenced others in the industry. Even though they
may not have always been the most profitable movie making company, they have always been
interested in broadening their horizons, and the sky was the limit. Not long after Paramount was
created Zukor decided to maintain his company s supremacy in the industry. He began a theater
buying campaign that amassed single houses and entire circuits... By 1930, the firm s movie house
division had grown to include almost 2,000 units and was named Publix Theaters (Huettig).
Paramount helped establish the neighborhood movie theater, along with providing hundreds of award
winning quality movies to view. Paramount has also contributed to the competitive aspect of the
movie industry, forcing actors and directors to do their best work. Stated by Joseph Youngerman in his

to escape the sexual/gender oppression and violence he experienced in Lincoln. From his arrival in
Lincoln, Brandon dresses and socializes as a male. He makes a group of friends, girls and men. She

The reality is that many places are just as bad including those semi rural areas where my Mother and
Father were born. However, people had fun there, including me on many occasions. When viewed
through a gendered lens, the people in Falls City Nebraska during 1993 as depicted in this movie were
no doubt unhappy. However, the unhappiness was not merely a function of where they lived, the lack
of opportunity and mobility, or even their unfortunate economic circumstances. People can live happy
lives while being burdened by all of the above. The message of the movie, as I see it, was that gender
stereotypes and prejudices can destroy many people whose mental, emotional and physical framework
doesn t fit the acceptable definitions of male and female . In the case of those who are forced to
repress their feelings and are somehow able to play by the gender rules , I find it difficult to believe
real happiness will be in the cards for them. And even those people who actually believe and/or accept
the rigid definitions of gender and appropriate behavior will live diminished lives that are less full,
less interesting and far less

towards words of former president Barak Obama who said, People want to have health insurance but

Growth Disorder Analysis
Growth disorder affects thousands of people across the world. Some are diagnosed with excessive
tallness while others are diagnosed with familial short stature (Peak 6). In one case a boy was
diagnosed at eleven years old, and he had to inject himself with a biosynthetic growth hormone
everyday (Torres 25). He grew up and became the highest goalscorer in Barcelona s history, Leo
Messi (Caioli 34).
There are many details on growth disorder. For instance, people with growth disorder face many
physical challenges. One example is, it interferes with normal activities. It would be very hard for a
person with growth disorder to go grocery shopping, drive a car, or turn on lights. Another example is,
society is designed for average height (Peak 61). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

(Torres 36). Leo won a golden medal for Argentina s men s soccer team in the 2008 Olympics, and he
won the Copa del Rey Top Goalscorer in 2010 and 2011 (45). Although Leo has received many
awards, he has also accomplished a lot. For example, he makes $128,000 a day (Prayank). Leo was
also debuted on La Liga, and his #10 jersey has become the world s best selling (Morreale 21). Leo
has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most goals scored in one year (41).When
Leo was first signed to Barcelona, his contract was on a napkin (Torres 29).
Leo has many influences and inspirations. For instance Diego Maradona, a former great Argentinian
soccer player, is a big inspiration to Leo (Logothetis 7). Another inspiration is Leo s grandmother
Celia. She put Leo in his first youth soccer club when he was only five years old (Morreale 9). Every
time Leo scores a goal, he puts two fingers to the sky in honor of his grandmother (37).
In conclusion, growth disorder affects many people, but Leo Messi did not let that stop him from

Understanding the needs, concerns and the attitudes of the clients is important on the part of the client
human services providers, since it will help them to provide quality services to the clients. Some
social, cultural, and personal factors do affect the provision of services to the clients. For a client to
gain quality and satisfaction on the goods that are being provided by the service provider, it is
important for the provider to assess their needs and even know them before going to provide the
services to them. This paper aims at looking at the range of problems that affect clients who consume

For example, some people argue that by using a family planning method, the user will eventually
become infertile. This is only a rumor and has not scientifically proven. Nonetheless, it prevents many
people from receiving the service because of associating the rumor to family planning methods (Stan,
2011).
Access, costs and availability are also factors that serve to render the provision of human services to
be ineffective. A client may be very willing to utilize the service but they cannot asses the service. The
best method in ensuring service delivery if effective is by making sure that all the prospective and
targeted clients can access the service. The issue of distance affects many clients in receiving human
service s needs. The human service providers may determine the point of access and assume that it is
favorable for all the clients. On the contrary, the point of access may be a long distance for some
clients. Such clients will not be able to get the services. The other factor related with these is cost.
Some human services are very costly to the clients. To get them, the clients have to dig deep into their
pockets. In this note, inadequate finances on the side of the client prevent them from accessing the
services.
Clients have their personal choices and preferences when they are receiving services from the service
providers. The care given will depend on whether the clients have

Blackrock Essay
Blackrock Major Essay Assignment
Blackrock by Nick Enright is a drama piece constructed to challenge dominant social ideology of
twentieth century Australian youth. The text presents a very critical attitude towards Australian society
in particular the notion of mateship is criticised and exposed in a negative light, as are the
justifications, and outcomes of youth independence, and the marginalisation of females. Blackrock,
being inspired/based on a the real life rape and murder of schoolgirl Leigh Leigh (in Stockton, near
Newcastle, Australia on 3 November 1989), provides powerful, direct, criticism of dominant
Australian (male) youth culture, and highlights how seemingly harmless attitudes and ideologies can

In such a contrast the writer is criticising the submissiveness of the female population, and conveying
the concept of fighting for your rights and defending your beliefs as does Cherie. Tiffany s boyfriend
Ricko, who is the dominant male in the Blackrock youth group, clearly objectifies Tiffany through the
symbolic use of his surfing trophy, representative of Tiffany, through his eyes she is just a trophy, just
an object which he desired and thus conquered. Ricko s objectification of her is reinforced through the
dialogue, Once, for him and Jason...I m not doing nothing like that ever again, to which Ricko replies ,
You ll do what you always do...Cause you are what you are. What you ll always be. So shut up and put

which demonstrates his objectification of her, in that he only tolerates her for her body to satisfy his
sexual lust and that she is useless in every other way to him. Tiffany s character was created by
Enright to be a perfect example of female marginalisation and disempowerment, as she really has no

promiscuity is an attempt to gain status in the Blackrock community yet she is abused and objectified

One of the biggest problems which the United States is faced with is juvenile crime. The reason
experts feel juvenile s commit crimes is because of risk factors when they were younger but experts
still have not found the main reason why juvenile s commit crimes. Some risk factors associated with
juvenile crime are poverty, repeated exposure to violence, drugs, easy access to firearms, unstable
family life and family violence, delinquent peer groups, and media violence. Especially the demise of

aggressive behavior, crime and violence in society. Television violence affects youngsters of all ages,
of both genders, at all economic levels, and all levels of intelligence. Long term childhood exposure to
television is a casual factor behind one half of the homicides committed by juveniles in the United
States.
The increased availability of guns has played a big part in escalating the number of crimes committed
by juveniles.
In Los Angeles juvenile delinquency cases involving weapon violation grew by 86% from 1988 to
1992, which was more then any other type of juvenile offense. According to a University of Michigan
study found that 270,000 guns accompany secondary school students to class daily. This is startling
because it shows how many more juveniles are carrying guns and the juvenile use of guns in
homicides has increased from 65 to 80 percent from 1987 to 1991.
The possession of firearms plays a big cause in the delinquency of children and is playing a bigger
role in the crimes which juveniles commit. Another cause of the increase of juvenile crimes has been

Obstacles In The Classroom
The numbers are not accurate because once everyone left the classroom with their tubes, each tube
was introduced to different variables. Each student did not treat the tube exactly the same which
resulted on data that is not accurate. There was also a flaw in the extraction method. When the curds
and whey was being extracted from their tubes, There was a lot of curds stuck in both the Rennilase
sample tubes and the Lactobacillus sample tubes. This resulted in lost data and the final amount of
curds not being accurate. Whey was also still on each of the cheese filters which is also lost data. The

Nike s Marketing Practises With Puma
This essay begins by discussing the competition between Nike and one of its rivals. This essay will
focus on Puma as they are Nike s rival. Moreover, it will analyse and discuss Nike s marketing
practises with Puma; these two companies will be compared and will be supported by examples and
references that will be shown throughout the essay.
To begin with, Nike is the world s largest sports brand while Puma is currently the third largest sports
company after Adidas in the sports industry. (Heydt, 2013). Nike s brand value is continuously
increasing each year. (Interbrand, 2013). According to Interbrand (2013), Nike carries on with

(Chris, 2014). Puma and Nike have organised their marketing programs in a very good and successful
way, through all parts of integrated marketing communications, these two brands have also
strengthened their brand image through contracts with athletes and sponsorships as well as
partnerships with groups and players of international repute in football, golf and other well known
sports and sponsoring mega global occasions. (Nazir et al., 2013).
Understanding customers is the way to provide for them great service; it is important for every
company to understand its customers, including Puma and Nike, to be able to give their customers
good service. To give good customer care, businesses must deliver what they have promised.
However, great customer care includes getting to know the customers well that organisations can
anticipate their customers needs and surpass their desires and expectations. (Donut, 2014).
Mahadevan (2014) stated that, The better the business can manage the relationships it has with its
customers, the more successful it will become this shows that organisations today need to understand
its customers in order to succeed.
Nike and Puma are both focusing on their customers and are strongly committed to marketing. (Wood,
2013). These sports organisations share a thorough dedication to understanding and fulfilling the
needs of their customers in clearly defined target

American Kitefliers Research Paper
Did you know that there is something in the United States called the American Kitefliers Association?
And there s something called competitive stunt kiting. As you might expect, the people who compete
in stunt kiting competitions are interesting folks. At Collectors Weekly, they ve got a profile of
Richard Dermer. He is a pizza shop owner and kite collector. The walls of Dermer s pizza joint are
covered in kites from all over the world. That is impressive enough. But it s not his only
accomplishment. Dermer worked at Hideaways, one of the first pizza places in Oklahoma. It opened
in the late 1950s, when pizza was an exotic food. He bought the joint in 1960. He delivered pizzas in

My kite book library now runs over a hundred volumes. I learn stuff new every time I go to an event.
And I think the kites out in the garage are multiplying when the lights are out. What does Dermer s
collection and hobby bring to the United States? It brings an international perspective and history on
kite flying. In India, for example, kite flying is a fierce. It is a sometimes violent sport. In Thailand,
kite battles reflect the war of the sexes between men and women. Kites were used in World War II.
They were used to distract German planes and for target practice. When Dermer started stunt kiting, it
was pretty new. All the kits were triangular, they all looked about the same. But soon, Dermer told
Collectors Weekly, that changed. In the 80s and 90s, kites went through quite a developmental phase
where they were getting better and better as new lighter, stronger materials were being developed.

Technology Learning And Teaching Language
Technology in learning and teaching language
Introduction
The innovation of communication technology has had a major impact on teaching language and how it
is learnt, causing a major paradigm shift in authorship and how language is disseminated in a
community. This paper will critique the important issue on how language is related to technology and
these are the status of what is referred to as CALL (Computer assisted learning language), its cultural
influence, its effectiveness and theoretic overview. Additional to this, the paper will analyse the
findings of electronic literacy, research on how the technology in learning and teaching can have an
impact on the essence of teachers, and electronic telecommunication and tele collaboration.
Computer Assisted Learning Language (CALL)
According to Kern (2006), technology intensively changes and extends the levels and the breadth of
exposure that students and any other categories of learners can get in terms of a targeted language. As
a result, All approach of second language acquisition theorize on the essence of changes in the input of
technological changes in languages and the effect of learner s acquisition may have on the language
(Thomas and Reinders, 2010:47).
The article analyses two approaches of CALL, one that was formulated in 1997 and the other one in
2005.The one in 1997 holds that CALL can be defined as the study and the search for the use of
computer applications in the process of learning and the acquisition of

Eli Whitney and the Cotton Gin Essay
Eli Whitney and the Cotton Gin
Eli Whitney :
Eli Whitney was the inventor of the cotton gin and a pioneer in the mass production of cotton.
Whitney was born in Westboro , Massachusetts., on Dec. 8, 1765, and died on Jan. 8, 1825. He
graduated from Yale College in 1792. By April 1793, Whitney had designed and constructed the
cotton gin, a machine that automated the separation of cottonseed from the short staple cotton fiber.
Eli Whitney s machine could produce up to 23 kg (50 lb) of cleaned cotton daily, making southern
cotton a profitable crop for the first time, but Whitney failed to profit from his invention, imitations of
his machine appeared, and his 1794 invention was not upheld until 1807.

Background on the Cotton Gin
The cotton gin is a device for removing the seeds from cotton fiber. Simple devices for that purpose
have been around for centuries, an East Indian machine called a charka was used to separate the seeds
from the lint when the fiber was pulled through a set of rollers. The charka was designed to work with
long staple cotton, but American cotton is short staple cotton. The cottonseed in Colonial America was
removed by hand, usually the work of slaves.
Eli Whitney s machine was the first to clean short staple cotton. His cotton engine consisted of spiked
teeth mounted on a boxed revolving cylinder which, when turned by a crank, pulled the cotton fiber
through small slotted openings so as to separate the seeds from the lint a rotating brush, operated via a
belt and pulleys, removed the fibrous lint from the projecting spikes.
The gins later became horse drawn and water powered gins and cotton production increased, along
with lowered costs. Cotton soon became the number one selling textile.
After the invention of the cotton gin, the yield of raw cotton doubled each decade after 1800. Demand
was fueled by other inventions of the Industrial Revolution, such as the machines to spin and weave it
and the steamboat to transport it. By mid century America was growing three quarters of the world s
supply of cotton, most

Closing the Gap between Disabled and Nondisabled Essay
Closing the Gap between Disabled and Nondisabled
The democratic ideals that the United States were built upon are freedom and equality; it is in the
Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and used as a defense when a person can think of
nothing snappy to say (i.e. It s a free country! ). However, while American culture is based on the
notion that you have the power and ability to become anyone or achieve anything, it is painfully
obvious to people with disabilities that government and the mainstream public has forgotten about
their needs. While most nondisabled people do not need to depend on family or government for
financial or medical assistance, people with disabilities are often denied jobs and opportunities,
forcing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A large part of the oppression of people with disabilities is based on the systematic categorization of
people, usually separated into normal and abnormal. While what is normal cannot exist without first
establishing what is abnormal, the process of this decision can be decided by visual judgment,
personal interaction, or medical diagnosis. Whether a person has a facial disfigurement, a wheelchair,
or a seeing eye dog, many people would consider those visual cues as apart from the norm, while
epilepsy, cerebral palsy, or a hearing impairment would be distinguished as abnormal by personal
interaction or medical diagnosis. All these factors separate people with disabilities from those who are
able and are provided with opportunities that disability can take away. To declare someone of having
an abnormality is to cut them off from the mainstream society, create them to be a bit of a pariah or a
sideshow (as was the case with the infamous Elephant Man), and to question their existence and
worthiness in and to the general American public and government. Jobs, public access, independence,
freedom, and self respect become personal and social casualties when a person acquires a disability,
such as blindness or losing a limb. In an essay

The Portrayal Analysis Of John Conroy s Belfast Diary
Conroy s analysis of Northern Ireland is, in the simplest of terms, refreshing. Convoy s attention to
detail and analysis when describing Jimmy Barr s dealing with the Housing Executive s, when
discussing the hunger strikes, and when discussing the plight of those who live in the Divis Flats all
support the notion that Conroy has an understanding of Northern Ireland, even though he s an outsider.
John Conroy s Belfast Diary is an example of how an outsider can provide a reliable analysis into the
communal violence that has consumed Northern Ireland. I believe that Conroy s outsider perspective,
combined with his choice to immerse himself into the culture of Belfast allowed him to write a story
that leaves out major biases, a story that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His immersion into the culture of Northern Ireland made him less of an outsider in terms of ability to
gain information, but he still could use his outsider perspective in analyzing what he obtained. Conroy
s choice to live in the ghetto was just the beginning of what made him equipped to tell the story of
Ireland. Equally important to immersing oneself in Belfast is having the ability to not take sides, or
favor one group or ideology or person over the other, a challenge that Conroy undertook. Throughout
Belfast Diary, Conroy works through dense and complex information regarding the various police
forces, paramilitaries, and British military groups that reside in the North with the Catholics and
Protestants. While reading Conroy s pages long analysis of the variety of groups, it becomes clear that
these groups within Northern Ireland cannot be deemed good or bad . Labeling a group with such
complexities would be falling into the trap of being an ill equipped outsider. Rather, Conroy implies
that one needs to develop an understanding that each group serves a purpose for the community that it
s serving. Conroy explains that each group benefits the community they re serving almost equally as
much as it is disadvantaged by the group. In other words, Conroy explains that the relationship is give
and take, it s not something that is understood at

His idea of planning does not differ from what I learned in class; however, if I had to teach this topic

therefore, they must focus on providing a fun environment for the players that do decide to play for
them. I really enjoyed this experience because it made me want to branch out and gain as much
experience as I can. Coach Smith started right where I am at and is currently in the process of working
his way up through the ranks, hoping to reach the division one level eventually. As he pushed his way
from quality control coach here at Indiana, to coach at Marian University, and then through multiple
division three schools, Coach Smith took a small amount of knowledge from every position he held.
Now, he finally got himself to an opportunity to learn how to coach and effectively recruit players to
come to his school. Overall, I believe this interview was an important step for me to reach my career
goals and I will use this experience to grow as a coach. I feel that this assignment is one that students
should take seriously because it forces you to reach out to individuals that you may not have otherwise

Mccaslin Interruptions Poem
Interruptions and the Mindful Moment: McCaslin s Interruptions
In a busy and production oriented society, interruptions are generally seen as irritating, rude and
unnecessary moments that should be avoided at all costs. However, in Interruptions , Susan McCaslin
wants the reader to consider that living in the gaps between thought and conversation, in the
interruptions of life, is how one can often see what is truly happening in the present around us. Using
the rhetorical pattern of contrast as well as direction, the unexpected, natural imagery and words about
language, McCaslin seeks to demonstrate the value of interruptions by understanding them as the gaps
in life where the opportunities for mindfulness and creativity lie.
The first stanza of McCaslin s Interruptions begins by giving the reader the direction that is the
backbone of the poem s theme: in other words, the reader must grow accustomed to the interruptions
in life so that the chance for mindfulness can occur. She then uses an unexpected subversion and
natural imagery to begin building the contrasts where the interruptions in the poem develop. McCaslin
directs the reader to Get used to them , beginning a series of commands to the reader to accept
interruptions in every day life. She subverts the idea of a traditional male Abrahamic god,
transforming the God she s discussing into a woman. This unexpected turn disrupts the poem itself, an
example of the interruptions she s heeding the reader to [g]et

Corporate Earnings And Financial Statement
Earnings play a key role in providing critical information for investors. Most investment decisions are
made with reliance on performance forecasts reported by analysts. Company public earnings
announcements are important for financial statement users, as it directly affects their decision to
invest. This puts a lot of pressure on directors to try and meet or beat these forecasts. Earnings
management is the massaging of earnings within the constraints of GAAP. Previous research suggests
that earnings management used by directors is becoming increasingly widespread. Lopez and Rees
(2002) discovered in their research that the market disproportionately reacts to firms that beat or miss
analysts forecasts; with a high multiple being attached to firms that beat expectations. Kasznik and
McNichols (2002) show that firms that meet expectations also have greater future earnings and stock
prices than firms that fail to do so. The disproportionate reaction from the market heavily affects share
prices, and the resulting change in earnings per share often dictates director performance along with
their bonuses. With such incentives, it is naturally expected that directors manage earnings to meet
analysts expectations. Directors have a range of methods that they can adopt, which makes the
identification and measurement of earnings management more complicated. This essay splits the
methods and reviews literature that has used different models to study earnings management. 2.

The Impact Of Religion On Human Culture
For centuries, human culture has been influenced in a multitude of ways by many means but none
have had such an impact as religion. It has had countless wars waged in its name, even to this day.
Billions believe in some divine being(s) that transcends the ugliness of humanity that s omnipotent
and omniscient. Religion became a guide and a representation of how our lives should be led.
However, history has brought evidence that made it possible for this notion to be criticized and rather,
flipped. The majority of the human race believes that religion shaped our culture but it is rather the
other way round, in that the culture of our ancestors, the Mesopotamians and the Hebrews shaped
religion to explain the natural world and as a reflection of their lives and tribulations.
During the age of Mesopotamia, climate change was still a key factor in the survival of civilizations
but did not work on a global scale as it did before during cooling and warming periods. One day of
bad weather could destroy a year s worth of crops for a family and displace them without any means
of self sustainability. It would be a millennium until food could be brought to the area again. To the
average human living in Mesopotamia at the time, this would have been chaos, living in fear for when
everything that was earned would be destroyed.
This erratic behavior of nature could not be summed up as one god for there were no rhythms or
patterns to be discern so to compensate for that, each aspect of

Themes Of Greed In Adam Mitchell s Cloud Atlas
Cloud Atlas is a book composed of six different writings from a multitude of writers such as Adam
Ewing, Cavendish, Sonmi, and Frobisher. These stories are written in a different time period but show
a lot of the same ideals and themes. There are many themes that present themselves in cloud atlas but
the one that appealed to me most was greed. Mitchell did a very good job in showing greed in each of
the chapters in a variety of different ways whether it was a minimal or large amount. In addition, the
author also related both the future and the past to the current time to show what is arguably the worst
characteristic one can have. I believe that Mitchell chose the theme of greed to show that all humans
will do nearly anything to satisfy their personal needs and wants. While reading Cloud Atlas I realized
that there is at least minimal traces of greed in each writing. The writing of Adam Ewing, Luisa Rey,
Sonmi 451, and Cavendish expressed the most greed out of the six.
The first chapter of the book opens up with Adam Ewing s journal. At first he writes about the strange
man named Dr. Goose and picking up teeth on the beach. Although Ewing was a bit skeptical of
Goose at first, it seemed that they became closer as the book progressed until a particular situation.
Later, Adam writes about when Dr. Goose and himself walked up on a whipping of a particular slave
names Autua who comes in later into the story and ends up being a very important character when
saving Adam s life.

If the polar bear had to swim after their prey this would tire them out and they would most likely fail
to catch their prey in order to consume it anyway. So the Ice caps are a polar bears hunting technique
(BBC, 2014). Over the years scientists have found that there are around 19 populations of polar bear I
four different ice regions throughout the artic. Polar bears have evolved over time and have adapted
well to the extreme temperatures in the Artic unlike their land based ancestors (National geographic,
2014).Polar bears have particularly small ears to minimise heat loss, the smaller their ears are the less
surface area there is (Endangered polar bear, 2013). Polar bears have also adapted to having a massive

To busting the unions and develop the economy in the country, she believes that it is best to cut down
government spending, such as welfares and social services. Therefore, the nation could storage and
increase more money. For example, she took away milk that was provided for free for elementary
school students in which she thought it was reasonable to do and nothing wrong with it. In terms of
labors, not only she took away jobs from the working class but she provided benefits for the rich.
However, in 1984, Thatcher wanted to shut down coal mines even though there were a lot of coals
available still at that time. It is believed that her claims did not make sense as if only she needed to
create more profits and wipe out the labor unions including the miners. However, the workers knew
what was going to happen, so they decided to go for strikes but unfortunately they failed to Thatcher

11th Armored Calvary Regiment
The 11th Armored Calvary Regiment The best damn Regiment that you will ever see. As you rank up
in the enlisted side here in the 11th ACR you realize that we really are the best Regiment, but as a
young private it can seem unreal and your mindset is different. I just completed the three week course
of Basic Leadership in Camp Parks CA, and as I learned about all the different units and patches the
soldiers wear in their shoulder, I realized that we really are the best, so I wore the black horse patch
during the course with such pride, knowing that warriors are made in our unit, and I say this because
all the Soldiers from the 11th ACR graduated this course with a GPA of 90% and above. This was not
what I believed when I first showed up to the unit, as a young private I was confused and wondered
why all my battle buddies were training on Tanks and attending the ranges more than me, and why
everyone kept telling me I was not gonna ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If I had the opportunity to change one thing in the Unit, to make it better than it already is, it would be
to organize and plan more training events pertaining to the soldiers MOS, the reason I would make
this change is so the young soldiers dont feel the way I did, I believe this will be helpful so when the
time comes to transition to another duty station the soldiers feel confident and prepared to be
successful in their new unit and their MOS. The RTU gets to shoot live fire after we leave the box, I
believe we can organize a training experience at least twice or more times a year for us to utilize the
live fire ranges in the box. Infantry can perform live fire tactical movements, and clearing building

Marigolds By Eugenia W. Collier
In Marigolds, Eugenia W. Collier describes a young girl that came to understand the dire financial
situation her family was in to illustrate the loss of innocence. Lizabeth thinks that she was living a
perfect life, but she soon finds that it was just a fantasy that she herself concocted. Collier uses
ordinary symbols, a simple title, and a descriptive style to get across her message that everyone needs
to have hope despite how powerless they are. In the plot of Marigolds, Collier describes Lizabeth, a
girl born into poverty who is unaware of the hardship surrounding her and her family. One summer
day, Lizabeth and her friends taunt Miss Lottie by throwing pebbles at her and her marigolds. Miss
Lottie and her son, John Burke chase the kids away. Afterwards, all of the kids gather around to
celebrate their latest escapade, everyone except Lizabeth. She and her brother head home and sleep
until Lizabeth wakes up from hearing her father cry. That was the moment she realized that she and
the other kids were living a lie. Collier uses Lizabeth, the main character in Marigolds, in order to
portray the loss of hope, and how one cannot have both hope and innocence. Lizabeth is a young girl
who at the beginning of the story is naïve and goes about her life as if nothing was wrong, but she
soon undergoes a transformation every child goes through;growing into adulthood. During this
process, Lizabeth becomes aware of the poverty stricken life that she was born into.

Female Characters In A Lesson Before Dying
The fictional town of Bayonne in A Lesson Before Dying is based on a plantation where the author
Ernest J. Gaines was born. This novel took place in the late 1940s a time when radical discrimination
was a major problem, and the Jim Crow laws validated segregation and discrimination. Although the
major personalities are males, there are three female characters that influence the males to solve the
difficulties in their life they would usually ignore. Each female character persuades and motivates
Jefferson and Grant from running away from their responsibilities. Tante Lou and Miss Emma
convince Grant to make Jefferson die like a man and not a hog, and Vivian makes Grant stay in the
quarter and not run away from his purpose in his life.
One of the first female characters introduced is Miss Emma, Jefferson s godmother. The first
description of Miss Emma is in the courtroom where she is described as a heavy set woman weighing
approximately two hundred pounds. We know she is a caring woman because while in the courtroom
she never got up to use the bathroom or get a glass of water. Even though she may not be strong
enough to sway the juries mind or protect Jefferson of the unfair sentencing of death by electrocution.
She is strong enough to stay in the courtroom and give the support that Jefferson needs. Everyone by
now knew what the outcome would be for Jefferson. Gaines illustrates the reason why Miss Emma
and the other blacks were upset was because his defense attorney called

Implications Of Septic Arthritis On The Family
Implications of Septic Arthritis on the Family. Having a child hospitalized causes an increase in the
levels of stress and anxiety for any caregiver. It has been found that hospitalization causes parents and
siblings of the child to feel a sense of loss of control and confusion (Commodari, 2010). Stress can
lead to more serious problems in the individual, and the family as a whole. Intensive psychosocial
intervention in inpatients and outpatients is found to have a positive impact on child and family
functioning, therefore reducing stress levels (Commodari, 2010). Nurses must help these families
transition into this new environment by providing interventions, and helping families to identify and
utilize resources (Commodari, 2010). Currently, there are no political or legislative implications
regarding septic arthritis. There is no current legislative activity surrounding the issue. Patient Safety.
Health care professionals, as a whole, must take responsibility for establishing safe methods of care
that involve preventing errors and adverse events. These methods should also establish methods of
identifying and reporting errors and adverse events when they do occur ( NEW AAP POLICY
STATEMENT ON PATIENT SAFETY, 2011). Although patient safety in hospitals has substantially
improved, American Academy of Pediatrics recommends expanding the focus of patient safety to
ambulatory care ( NEW AAP POLICY STATEMENT ON PATIENT SAFETY, 2011). American

carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, or nucleic acids. Each of these macromolecules is made of smaller
subunits or monomers held together by covalent bonds. Most food is composed of three types of
molecules: carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids. Carbohydrates such as starches and sugars are major
source of energy. Simple sugars are found in sweets and fruits. Starches are found in potatoes, cereal,

Analysis Of The Pink Car By Mark Halliday
Different Perspectives
In recent generations, typical looks or ideas have dominated fashion. People write about this topic
through articles, newspapers, and papers. While models style and display the most recent styles, they
also represent what women should look like. Not until very recently, people have realized that not all
women look like models, unless they starved themselves or worse. In the poems, Fat is Not a Fairy
Tale and The Pink Car , the authors convey their main message of the poem as the social aspect of the
world and what they believe has the characteristics of the ideal person by using imagery and
personification. Admiration for individuality, a common theme throughout The Pink Car , was
constantly mentioned through the words of the Mark Halliday. Furthermore, Halliday personifies the
cars in the poem as people; specifically focusing in on the pink car. He repeatedly describes the other
cars in a jaundiced way; for example, he would characterize these cars as boisterous, rowdy, and big.
However, he identifies the pink car as disparate, one who does not worry or care about other cars
perspectives. The author wrote, Other cars might honk their horns to seem big // the pink car doesn t
honk and doesn t worry (Halliday 25 26). Halliday symbolizes the car as pink because society
commonly construes the color as feminist, sweet, playful, the color of love, flowers and romance. His
intention of this poem was to help one find peace within themselves.

  • 2. The Abolition Of A Person Through The Court System Essay As America abolish slavery after the civil war, and thousands of African Americans were free to live lives without the fear of slavery or undue punishment not all things turned out the way one could have hoped for. Followed revisions of the 13 15th Amendments to the Constitution, provided the use of exclusion through the criminalization of a person through the court system. However such rights as described in the 13th amendment provides a claw allowing for racial divisions to persist in the country. Such loop holes in the Constitution reduced freedoms by convictions through the legal system. As described in the George Ritzers piece describing McDonaldization of mass plea bargains contributing to the increase removal of a person s rights and exclusion from aid otherwise qualify for. Such loss of freedoms through court sanctioned violations in America caused a national reflection of American policies targeting black and brown people up to 70% more than whites. Reflecting on the destruction of this clause in the 13th Amendment we ll evaluate why it was put in and what this loop hole allowed the country to maintain. Through the work Michelle Alexanders The New Jim Crow in 2010 continue evaluates the relationship of vilifying or the creation of other ing in order to maintain justification for targeting black and brown bodies, as Denis Childs describes it as, Natural born Criminals. • 3. A Canticle For Leibowitz Analysis A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller, Jr., gives an undeniable analogue to our own society. It deals with religion, science, faith, humanity, religious ethics, secular ethics, sin, redemption, preternatural innocence, myth and these components interlock to structure our understanding of society. It manages the embezzlement of scientific knowledge and superstitious methods for religion. Miller s novel depicts the ascent and fall of civilization around a small monastery in a desert somewhere in North America. The setting is very significant in which the monastery survives centuries and centuries of wars and strife but is not destroyed until technological civilization once again reaches it s height. However, the divergence of science and religion has cause humanity to use the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Science and religion might be translated as different impressions of a similar source, and it is distortions in those reflections that prompt to chaos and misery. Religion and science both have defects that can imperil human progress if they do not acknowledge each other s elementary principles. Religion is not only dangerous and misleading but...sentient beings are generally too weak willed to reject it (269). When one acknowledges either science or religion with no endeavor to accommodate the two productively, the final result is normally disastrous. At the point when scientists and theologians take part in battle for the absolute entirety of people, nobody wins, but when they engage in dialogue, the fruits are enormous. Science can purify religion from error and superstition; religion can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes. It is generally suspected that religion and science are the two ends of a sea, which can never meet, never join. It is suspected that religion is totally faith and science is a strict scientific fact. In any case, then the truth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Comparative Analysis Of Official Crime Statistics And... To claim that crime is increasing or decreasing in New Zealand is a statement with various inbuilt assumptions. Crime is not a simple notion to define, nor is it easy to measure. This essay will perform a comparative analysis between Official Crime Statistics and unofficial measures, highlighting that both methods are limited in reflecting the true nature and scope of crime, as the notion of crime is contested. Official crime statistics follow a positivist approach, assuming that crime is a static fact to observe and measure. Looking at the statistics in isolation, there is a gradual decrease in the overall crime rate (Police National Headquarters, 2014). Trends for specific offences fluctuate, as violent crimes such as sexual assaults are increasing, while property offences are decreasing. However, this data has various limits. Official statistics only account for crime that is detected and recorded. Crimes incorrectly filtered out of the system or miscoded fall into the grey figure (Bradley Walters, 2011), distorting specific crime trends. Crucially, because these statistics only reflect when a person is captured, the dark figure all crime experienced by victims, but hidden from police (MacDonald, 2002) is unaccounted for. Secondly, the data is measured using a legal definition of crime. Yet the law is constantly changing, as it is contingent on the society it is found in. The introduction of the Sentencing Act 2002 saw an increase in charging violent offenders ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Animal Rights Argumentative Analysis What makes hunting and trapping for sport is that people that do hunt or trap are seeing these animals as renewable resources. They can reproduce without the help of humans; however, that does not give humans the right to use them as a natural resource. It is a failure to not treat them with respect. One of the main concerns for defending hunting is that it is not different than what wildlife does to each other. The rights view sees that animals not moral agents, and have different morals than what humans have. Then only have to kill what they need to. The still cause harm, but do no moral harm in the logic of the rights view. Regan does take into account how humans treat endangered species. The rights view is not contrasting to the efforts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Leaver culture considers nature in how it improves with the world around it. Ismael uses the story of Cain and Able to explain the difference. For anyone that has grown up learning about Christian beliefs, the story of Cain and Able is taught as a way that if you go against God then you get punished. The way Ishmael explains it, is more about a difference of cultures. Able represents the Leaver culture, while Cain is a part of the Taker culture. If humans look at the story from the Taker perspective, they see how it is a perspective in the bible. The story makes more sense if it looked from a Leavers perspective. However, Leaver culture is not fully gone; but Taker culture has taken a majority of control. Regan main claim is that humans are no capably of fully knowing when the animals suffer, but that does not deny them the rights they need. Regan is searching for the answer in how to communicate with animals. Ishmael knows that our lost connection with nature is due to human s own fault. Humans separated ourselves so far that humans cannot reach that communication point with nature. However, if humans were to be like Leaver culture, then humans would be able to work with nature. At that point humans could gain the communication back to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Zoo Controversy Essay Everybody s been to the zoo; they ve either enjoyed a dolphin show, or fed the penguins. Zoos have been a part of American culture for centuries. At first, a zoo could be seen as nothing more than a jail cell for animals, but today, zoos are being completely transformed. What used to be confined cages are now being revolutionized into acres of land for different species to reside in. The opponents of zoos feel that they are inhumane and harmful to animals. However, zoos are beneficial for several different reasons, including, animal conservation and captive breeding, scientific studies, healthcare, and education. Daniel Martin, writer for mailonline.com, wrote an article about Angela Smith who works as a Labor s Charities Minister. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Currently, animals in zoos are kept in well clean, vast areas of land where they are free to roam around in a habitat where they feel comfortable. According to a TIME Magazine article, The San Diego Zoo spent 3.5 million dollars to construct a mock forest for five bears (Gibbs). The exhibit includes trees, a waterfall, and even an electronic honey dispenser. According to the article, [w]hen the lush exhibit opened this summer, zoogoers loved it, and so did the bears. They shredded the trees and rolled in the sod, (Gibbs). Instead of the small cages and foul odors that most people associate with zoos, many zoos spend a large sum of their budget on keeping their facilities pristine. Animal habitats are now bigger than ever, and more importantly, cleaned multiple times a day, along with the animals regular feedings. This further proves that zoos have made drastic improvements over the introductory zoos most people associate with. Contrary to what Smith believes, zoos are actually very beneficial for animals, one of the main reasons being conservation of species in zoos. Since their beginning in Europe in the mid 19th century, zoos have improved drastically; back then, zoos were merely for entertainment, where as now zoo owners are more aware and concerned with the welfare of their animals (Masci). With the endangered species list rising every year, it is imperative that scientists remain conscious of the number of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While both Sonny and the narrator live in separate worlds, all Sonny needs is a brother to care for him while the narrator finds himself in the past eventually learning his role as an older brother. The narrator is trying to make up for all the time apart that he has spent from Sonny during his time of need, and perhaps that is his way of making himself feel better about abandoning his younger brother so many years before. Sonny has had a problem with drugs for some time, which leads him having to serve a jail sentence. The narrator tries to stay oblivious, which is part of the reason he turned his back on his younger brother for so many years. I had had suspicions, but I didn t name them, I kept putting them away (831). The way that he dealt with his younger brother s problems was by turning his back on them. He knew that Sonny was dealing with heavy problems, but chose to look past them and live his own life. However, the unhappiness was not merely a function of where they lived, the lack of opportunity and mobility, or even their unfortunate economic circumstances. People can live happy lives while being burdened by all of the above. The message of the movie, as I see it, was that gender stereotypes and prejudices can destroy many people whose mental, emotional and physical framework doesn t fit the acceptable definitions of male and female . In the case of those who are forced to repress their feelings and are somehow able to play by the gender rules , I find it difficult to believe real happiness will be in the cards for them. Access, costs and availability are also factors that serve to render the provision of human services to be ineffective. A client may be very willing to utilize the service but they cannot asses the service. The best method in ensuring service delivery if effective is by making sure that all the prospective and targeted clients can access the service. The issue of distance affects many clients in receiving human service s needs. The human service providers may determine the point of access and assume that it is favorable for all the clients. On the contrary, the point of access may be a long distance for some clients. Such clients will not be able to get the services. The other factor related with these is cost. Some human services are very costly to the clients. To get them, the clients have to dig deep into their pockets. The text presents a very critical attitude towards Australian society in particular the notion of mateship is criticised and exposed in a negative light, as are the justifications, and outcomes of youth independence, and the marginalisation of females. Blackrock, being inspired/based on a the real life rape and murder of schoolgirl Leigh Leigh (in Stockton, near Newcastle, Australia on 3 November 1989), provides powerful, direct, criticism of dominant Australian (male) youth culture, and highlights how seemingly harmless attitudes and ideologies can lead to the most severe ... In such a contrast the writer is criticising the submissiveness of the female population, and conveying the concept of fighting for your rights and defending your beliefs as does Cherie. Tiffany s boyfriend Ricko, who is the dominant male in the Blackrock youth group, clearly objectifies Tiffany through the symbolic use of his surfing trophy, representative of Tiffany, through his eyes she is just a trophy, just an object which he desired and thus conquered. Ricko s objectification of her is reinforced through the dialogue, Once, for him and Jason...I m not doing nothing like that ever again, to which Ricko replies , You ll do what you always do...Cause you are what you are. What you ll always be. So shut up and put out. Ricko s mind set and personality are evident through this cruel and contemptuous verbal abuse, which demonstrates his objectification of her, in that he only tolerates her for her body to satisfy his sexual lust and that she is useless in every other way to him. Tiffany s character was created by Enright to be a perfect example of female marginalisation and disempowerment, as she really has no power within the Blackrock community and even in her attempts to assume rapport she is rejected Her promiscuity is an attempt to gain status in the Blackrock community yet she is abused and objectified by her boyfriend Ricko and pushed even lower in social status(as a sex object), essentially the ... Before the time a child has reached seventh grade, the average child has witnessed 8,000 murders and 100,000 acts of violence on the television. There is no doubt that heavy exposure to televised violence is one of the causes of aggressive behavior, crime and violence in society. Television violence affects youngsters of all ages, of both genders, at all economic levels, and all levels of intelligence. Long term childhood exposure to television is a casual factor behind one half of the homicides committed by juveniles in the United States. The increased availability of guns has played a big part in escalating the number of crimes committed by juveniles. In Los Angeles juvenile delinquency cases involving weapon violation grew by 86% from 1988 to 1992, which was more then any other type of juvenile offense. According to a University of Michigan study found that 270,000 guns accompany secondary school students to class daily. This is startling because it shows how many more juveniles are carrying guns and the juvenile use of guns in homicides has increased from 65 to 80 percent from 1987 to 1991. By April 1793, Whitney had designed and constructed the cotton gin, a machine that automated the separation of cottonseed from the short staple cotton fiber. Eli Whitney s machine could produce up to 23 kg (50 lb) of cleaned cotton daily, making southern cotton a profitable crop for the first time, but Whitney failed to profit from his invention, imitations of his machine appeared, and his 1794 invention was not upheld until 1807. Background on the Cotton Gin The cotton gin is a device for removing the seeds from cotton fiber. Simple devices for that purpose have been around for centuries, an East Indian machine called a charka was used to separate the seeds from the lint when the fiber was pulled through a set of rollers. The charka was designed to work with long staple cotton, but American cotton is short staple cotton. The cottonseed in Colonial America was removed by hand, usually the work of slaves. Eli Whitney s machine was the first to clean short staple cotton. His cotton engine consisted of spiked teeth mounted on a boxed revolving cylinder which, when turned by a crank, pulled the cotton fiber through small slotted openings so as to separate the seeds from the lint a rotating brush, operated via a belt and pulleys, removed the fibrous lint from the projecting spikes. The gins later became horse drawn and water powered gins and cotton production increased, along with lowered costs. Cotton soon became the number one selling textile. After the invention of the cotton gin, the yield of raw cotton doubled each decade after 1800. However, while American culture is based on the notion that you have the power and ability to become anyone or achieve anything, it is painfully obvious to people with disabilities that government and the mainstream public has forgotten about their needs. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A large part of the oppression of people with disabilities is based on the systematic categorization of people, usually separated into normal and abnormal. While what is normal cannot exist without first establishing what is abnormal, the process of this decision can be decided by visual judgment, personal interaction, or medical diagnosis. Whether a person has a facial disfigurement, a wheelchair, or a seeing eye dog, many people would consider those visual cues as apart from the norm, while epilepsy, cerebral palsy, or a hearing impairment would be distinguished as abnormal by personal interaction or medical diagnosis. All these factors separate people with disabilities from those who are able and are provided with opportunities that disability can take away. To declare someone of having an abnormality is to cut them off from the mainstream society, create them to be a bit of a pariah or a sideshow (as was the case with the infamous Elephant Man), and to question their existence and worthiness in and to the general American public and government. Mccaslin Interruptions Poem Interruptions and the Mindful Moment: McCaslin s Interruptions In a busy and production oriented society, interruptions are generally seen as irritating, rude and unnecessary moments that should be avoided at all costs. However, in Interruptions , Susan McCaslin wants the reader to consider that living in the gaps between thought and conversation, in the interruptions of life, is how one can often see what is truly happening in the present around us. Using the rhetorical pattern of contrast as well as direction, the unexpected, natural imagery and words about language, McCaslin seeks to demonstrate the value of interruptions by understanding them as the gaps in life where the opportunities for mindfulness and creativity lie. The first stanza of McCaslin s Interruptions begins by giving the reader the direction that is the backbone of the poem s theme: in other words, the reader must grow accustomed to the interruptions in life so that the chance for mindfulness can occur. She then uses an unexpected subversion and natural imagery to begin building the contrasts where the interruptions in the poem develop. • 32. Corporate Earnings And Financial Statement Earnings play a key role in providing critical information for investors. Most investment decisions are made with reliance on performance forecasts reported by analysts. Company public earnings announcements are important for financial statement users, as it directly affects their decision to invest. This puts a lot of pressure on directors to try and meet or beat these forecasts. Earnings management is the massaging of earnings within the constraints of GAAP. Previous research suggests that earnings management used by directors is becoming increasingly widespread. Lopez and Rees (2002) discovered in their research that the market disproportionately reacts to firms that beat or miss analysts forecasts; with a high multiple being attached to firms that beat expectations. Kasznik and McNichols (2002) show that firms that meet expectations also have greater future earnings and stock prices than firms that fail to do so. The disproportionate reaction from the market heavily affects share prices, and the resulting change in earnings per share often dictates director performance along with their bonuses. With such incentives, it is naturally expected that directors manage earnings to meet analysts expectations. Directors have a range of methods that they can adopt, which makes the identification and measurement of earnings management more complicated. This essay splits the methods and reviews literature that has used different models to study earnings management. 2. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has had countless wars waged in its name, even to this day. Billions believe in some divine being(s) that transcends the ugliness of humanity that s omnipotent and omniscient. Religion became a guide and a representation of how our lives should be led. However, history has brought evidence that made it possible for this notion to be criticized and rather, flipped. The majority of the human race believes that religion shaped our culture but it is rather the other way round, in that the culture of our ancestors, the Mesopotamians and the Hebrews shaped religion to explain the natural world and as a reflection of their lives and tribulations. During the age of Mesopotamia, climate change was still a key factor in the survival of civilizations but did not work on a global scale as it did before during cooling and warming periods. One day of bad weather could destroy a year s worth of crops for a family and displace them without any means of self sustainability. It would be a millennium until food could be brought to the area again. There are many themes that present themselves in cloud atlas but the one that appealed to me most was greed. Mitchell did a very good job in showing greed in each of the chapters in a variety of different ways whether it was a minimal or large amount. In addition, the author also related both the future and the past to the current time to show what is arguably the worst characteristic one can have. I believe that Mitchell chose the theme of greed to show that all humans will do nearly anything to satisfy their personal needs and wants. Similarities Between O Brother Where Art Thou O Brother Where Art Thou is most definitely similar to The Odyssey, displaying similar scenarios and characters throughout both the film and the book. While it is not identical, there are many common themes found in The Odyssey that are also found in O Brother Where Art Thou, creating a cinematic experience that accurately depicts the original tale. One comparison in O Brother Where Art Thou is when Ulysses and the rest of his crew infiltrate a Klu Klux Klan rally. • 44. Marigolds By Eugenia W. Collier In Marigolds, Eugenia W. Collier describes a young girl that came to understand the dire financial situation her family was in to illustrate the loss of innocence. Lizabeth thinks that she was living a perfect life, but she soon finds that it was just a fantasy that she herself concocted. Collier uses ordinary symbols, a simple title, and a descriptive style to get across her message that everyone needs to have hope despite how powerless they are. In the plot of Marigolds, Collier describes Lizabeth, a girl born into poverty who is unaware of the hardship surrounding her and her family. One summer day, Lizabeth and her friends taunt Miss Lottie by throwing pebbles at her and her marigolds. Miss Lottie and her son, John Burke chase the kids away. Afterwards, all of the kids gather around to celebrate their latest escapade, everyone except Lizabeth. She and her brother head home and sleep until Lizabeth wakes up from hearing her father cry. That was the moment she realized that she and the other kids were living a lie. Collier uses Lizabeth, the main character in Marigolds, in order to portray the loss of hope, and how one cannot have both hope and innocence. Lizabeth is a young girl who at the beginning of the story is naïve and goes about her life as if nothing was wrong, but she soon undergoes a transformation every child goes through;growing into adulthood. During this process, Lizabeth becomes aware of the poverty stricken life that she was born into. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Female Characters In A Lesson Before Dying The fictional town of Bayonne in A Lesson Before Dying is based on a plantation where the author Ernest J. Gaines was born. This novel took place in the late 1940s a time when radical discrimination was a major problem, and the Jim Crow laws validated segregation and discrimination. Although the major personalities are males, there are three female characters that influence the males to solve the difficulties in their life they would usually ignore. Each female character persuades and motivates Jefferson and Grant from running away from their responsibilities. Tante Lou and Miss Emma convince Grant to make Jefferson die like a man and not a hog, and Vivian makes Grant stay in the quarter and not run away from his purpose in his life. One of the first female characters introduced is Miss Emma, Jefferson s godmother. The first description of Miss Emma is in the courtroom where she is described as a heavy set woman weighing approximately two hundred pounds. We know she is a caring woman because while in the courtroom she never got up to use the bathroom or get a glass of water. Even though she may not be strong enough to sway the juries mind or protect Jefferson of the unfair sentencing of death by electrocution. She is strong enough to stay in the courtroom and give the support that Jefferson needs. Everyone by now knew what the outcome would be for Jefferson. Gaines illustrates the reason why Miss Emma and the other blacks were upset was because his defense attorney called ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Implications Of Septic Arthritis On The Family Implications of Septic Arthritis on the Family. Having a child hospitalized causes an increase in the levels of stress and anxiety for any caregiver. It has been found that hospitalization causes parents and siblings of the child to feel a sense of loss of control and confusion (Commodari, 2010). Stress can lead to more serious problems in the individual, and the family as a whole. Intensive psychosocial intervention in inpatients and outpatients is found to have a positive impact on child and family functioning, therefore reducing stress levels (Commodari, 2010). Nurses must help these families transition into this new environment by providing interventions, and helping families to identify and utilize resources (Commodari, 2010). Currently, there are no political or legislative implications regarding septic arthritis. There is no current legislative activity surrounding the issue. Patient Safety. Health care professionals, as a whole, must take responsibility for establishing safe methods of care that involve preventing errors and adverse events. These methods should also establish methods of identifying and reporting errors and adverse events when they do occur ( NEW AAP POLICY STATEMENT ON PATIENT SAFETY, 2011). Although patient safety in hospitals has substantially improved, American Academy of Pediatrics recommends expanding the focus of patient safety to ambulatory care ( NEW AAP POLICY STATEMENT ON PATIENT SAFETY, 2011). • 50. Analysis Of The Pink Car By Mark Halliday Different Perspectives In recent generations, typical looks or ideas have dominated fashion. People write about this topic through articles, newspapers, and papers. While models style and display the most recent styles, they also represent what women should look like. Not until very recently, people have realized that not all women look like models, unless they starved themselves or worse. In the poems, Fat is Not a Fairy Tale and The Pink Car , the authors convey their main message of the poem as the social aspect of the world and what they believe has the characteristics of the ideal person by using imagery and personification. Admiration for individuality, a common theme throughout The Pink Car , was constantly mentioned through the words of the Mark Halliday. Furthermore, Halliday personifies the cars in the poem as people; specifically focusing in on the pink car. He repeatedly describes the other cars in a jaundiced way; for example, he would characterize these cars as boisterous, rowdy, and big. However, he identifies the pink car as disparate, one who does not worry or care about other cars perspectives. The author wrote, Other cars might honk their horns to seem big // the pink car doesn t honk and doesn t worry (Halliday 25 26). Halliday symbolizes the car as pink because society commonly construes the color as feminist, sweet, playful, the color of love, flowers and romance. His intention of this poem was to help one find peace within themselves. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
