Personal Narrative Analysis
The rogue hunks of plastic were out of control. My maneuvering and contorting to avoid being pelted
was futile. (**leave one word**). The strings tangled around me and the glow sticks smacked me in
the forehead forcefully. Needless to say, they left a mark.
My friend s attempt to teach me the art of poi was fruitless. In simple terms, poi is the art of dancing
while spinning pendulums to create patterns usually with light. In my case, I was whirling glow sticks
on shoelaces dangerously close to my face, shins, and erm other areas.
When first witnessing the spectacle, I was mesmerized. The geometry and fluidity of movement were
particularly magnificent (tense?). Also admirable was the precision the art form commanded; one

I came to realize that learning the basic weaving motion is like riding a bicycle. A cathartic moment
will come to those who are patient, and after that, the skill can never be forgotten. Once learned, this 2
beat weave seems so fluid and natural it s a wonder that it wasn t obvious earlier. My epiphany elated
me, and I craved to learn more.
After conquering the fundamentals, I enjoyed a rapid accumulation of knowledge. I have always been
a bit of a polymath, and even though poi did not come naturally to me at first, once I had momentum,
learning the rest was easy. When I next saw my friend, she was in disbelief that I was able to learn
autonomously, and that the magnitude of my progress was so great. Over the period of a weekend, my
skills had surpassed those of my mentor.
As with many of my interests, my fondness for poi quickly became a minor obsession. (At other times
my primary interests were making friendship bracelets, crafting wallets out of duct tape, and painting.)
I placed an order for two pairs of authentic poi more professional than my homemade glow stick set
that served me well for three months and even asked requested more for Christmas. With these I
would practice whenever I had a spare moment; I even carried them around in my

Beowulf Monster Vs Hero Essay
In Christian medieval culture, the term monster was used to refer to anything born with defects, as
they were deemed God given signs of bad things to come. However, when exactly does a person gain
the title of hero ? From acts of defeating monsters, to defending a distressed village against a powerful
plague, many are then considered heroes, yet when someone considered a monster does something
heroic, does that cancel out their villainy? And vice versa? While Beowulf exhibits a multitude of
heroic attributes, his undermining beast like qualities are hard to miss, and essentially pose the
question to the reader: What is the relationship between monster and hero, and is there an overlap?
The epic Beowulf blurs the lines between what it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a great and horrendous monster like Grendel, one would think that the author would describe the
onset fear he produces onto his victims. However, when Grendel and Beowulf commence their battle,
there is an immediate change of tone and diction that visibly illustrates a fear of Beowulf and his
strength. From The captain of evil discovered himself in a handgrip harder than anything he had ever
encountered in any man on the face of the Earth. (lines 749 752) to It was the worst trip the terror
monger had taken to Heorot. (lines 764 765). If the poet were to omit the nouns used to entitle
Grendel(captain of evil and terror monger), with that of his actual name, one could not help but
sympathize with his pain. The climax of his fear ends with Then an extraordinary wail arose, and
bewildering fear came over the Danes. (lines 781 783). It is interesting to see that the Danes is
described as in fear, once Grendel has cried out in explicit pain due to his defeat. This ties back to the
roles and relationship of Heroes and Monsters.
Whilst Beowulf is the Hero of this epic, his presence and actions descriptively trigger the most fear
among the monster, and thus the the danes as well. This leads to the manifestation of a sort of evil
twin story line. An evil twin story usually depicts physical copies of protagonists, but with profoundly
inverted moralities. However,

Jack Sparrow And The Golden Age Of Piracy
The Golden Age of Piracy is the subject of many Hollywood films. One of the most popular film
series in recent years is the series Pirates of the Caribbean. But how accurately does the movie capture
the Golden Age of Piracy that spanned from the 1650 s to the 1730 s? In order to answer this question,
a team of researchers will examine the mythology, the pirate s code, the weapons, and compare real
pirates to the main protagonist, Jack Sparrow in the movie to see if he closely resembles the pirates of
real life. Pirates are associated with many things including treasure, their code, their weapons, and the
mythology. In the movie the Black Pearl s crew kidnap the daughter of the governor of Port Royal,
Jamaica (under English rule). Jack Sparrow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chain and bar shots were used to rip through sails, masts, and rigging. They were loaded into cannons.
The chain shot had two balls with a chain in between the balls, the bar shot had a bar between two
metal balls. Round shots were little balls put in cannons that had a splintering effect on the ship, these
shots were aimed for the hull. In the movie there were a few shots of Barbossa s crew stuffing in all of
these shots and shooting them at Captain Jack sparrows ship. They also included how much damage
these shots made on the ships in the movie. This next weapon is a classic pirate weapon, a cannon.
They were huge metal almost like shooters that could be loaded with things to shoot at ships. This
weapon was spotted many times in the movie during ship fights. Cutlery, like forks and knives, were
stuffed in cannons if pirates didn t have any chain, bar, or round shots. They stuffed anything in a
cannon that looked sharp and ready to do some damage. Captain Jack Sparrow s crew did not have
any weapons for the cannons so they used cutlery in their cannons, this action is historically

Mountain Climbers Research Paper
Should climbers be entitled to rescue services on a mountain? When people are climbing mountains
such as Mount Everest or Mount Rainier they know what kind of danger they are placing themselves
in. Many people think that because the services exist they can abuse it and call for help at any time.
Even though these services exist they should only be used in a crisis, because more people than one
climber are being put at risk. As the mountains grow in popularity more people want to travel to them.
Many companies are going in debt because of climbers who think they know what they are doing
when they do not. Furthermore, the reason some people have for needing rescued are ridiculous. These
are three main topics as to why climbers should not be entitled to a rescue. To start off, people who
climb places such as Mount Everest and Mount Rainier put more than themselves at risk. Many will
argue that this is the reason rescue services exist. Although that is true, they were created for crisis
situations. For example, in Source 3 a park ranger on Mount ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

climber and a helicopter has to be used they are putting two million dollars on the line. A climber may
be at a high altitude and need rescue for a decision that went wrong, so the rescue services would send
a helicopter to try and export the climber. The high altitudes can cause a pilot to lose control of the
helicopter and crash. Which two million dollars for one person is a lot of money to spend for just an
attempt at rescue. Costs like this add on to the fact that climbers should not be entitled to a

My Position From A Kantian Perspective Essay
The Categorical Debate George told Martha where a large sum of money he had accumulated was
stored. He asked her to see that the money was given to the Society for Protection against Alien
Control of the Earth (SPACE). Now that he has died, she is considering using the money to support
the activities of the local Hunger Task Force, an organization that provides donated food to those who
need it. What should Martha do? My position from a Kantian perspective is that Martha should give
the money to the Society for Protection against Alien Control of the Earth (SPACE) because of the
agreement Martha made with George before he died. I shall present arguments to support my position
from a Kantian perspective by setting the precedence demonstrated by Kant as is evidence in duty and
moral obligation. I will also present arguments to refute the utilitarian position that Martha should use
the money to support the activities of the local Hunger Task Force, an organization that provides
donated food to those who need it. As well as the arguments present by Kants catergorical imperative.
Kant ascribes Duty means that we should never act in any way that we wouldn t want the principle we
act on to be a universal law. Which in effect is something that is done as part of a job or because the
law requires it. Here, Martha agreed to ensure that the money left by George be given to (SPACE)
therefore Martha should abide by Georges wishes since her job required

Inventory Systems Paper
Inventory Systems Summary
Inventory control systems are used so that companies can track materials or products. Before
technology was so readily available, employees of companies had a harder time tracking inventory.
Today one can go into a large retailer and ask an employee to check if an item is in stock and all the
employee would have to do is check a little hand held device. The four types of inventory systems that
Team A decided to research and discuss were: Advanced Tracking System (ATS), Perpetual Inventory
System, Periodic Inventory System, and Just In Time Inventory System.
Advanced Tracking System (ATS)
Advanced Tracking System, or ATS, is a system that operates standalone or front end that interfaces
with almost any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also well suited for the type of industries where there isn t much processing to do, so the
inventory exists at only one level (for sale) rather than at three levels (raw materials, work in progress
and for sale) (Kulkarni, 2010).
Periodic Inventory System A periodic inventory control is a system with no continuous record of
changes. Inventory is only tracked periodically instead of per the transaction. At the end of a specific
period, usually an accounting period; quarterly or monthly, the ending inventory is found by a physical
count. The cost of each item is computed and deducted from the sum of purchases and the beginning
of the inventory to calculate cost of goods sold (Business Dictionary, 2010). The periodic inventory
system keeps the inventory balance at the same value that it was at the beginning of the period. The
inventory level is not updated after purchases, for accounting purposes; this system uses an account
called purchases at the end of the period, rather than debiting inventory.
Just In Time (JIT) Inventory System
Just In Time inventory system known as JIT is one of inventory systems used in companies to deliver
a finished product to customers quickly to reduce the overall ordering and inventory holding cost
(Atkinson, 2005). The system proves to be most effective for companies that lose money for holding a
product in its inventory for an extended period of time and

Pat s Personality Traits
Personality test can either accurately describe who you are, or misinterpret the type of personality trait
you exhibit. Either way, personality tests can help an employer hire a person for a job or it can aid
family and friends and oneself, to better understand who an individual is. Therefore, by using the Five
Factor Model of personality and Pat s corresponding results, I will be explaining Pat s personality
throughout this paper. The Five Factor Model of personality in which a 55 and above is a high score,
54 45 is average and 44 and below is low, is categorized as followed: Openness, Conscientiousness,
Extroversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism. In addition, I will as well consider Pat s MMPI 2 (an

introvert, a loner. She fined it hard to trust people and prefer to stay at home. She is not very calm in

Formal Characteristics
SOC/120: Evolution of Formal Organizations

The way that I will conduct my research is to first explain how formal organizations have evolved
over the past century. Second, what differences were there in organizations a century ago, and
compare to today s organizations. And lastly I will also tell of the trends in today s formal
organizations in modern society. I will describe how each of the characteristics for formal
organizations will need to evolve or change in Micah s organization to be more open and flexible. And
I will give an overall prediction based on my research on how organizations like Micah s may evolve
in the future.

Within a bureaucratic organization communication is left on an impersonal note consisting of email,
telephone, or letters. It seems that succession planning is becoming a major trend among major
corporations. Many companies are strategically planning processes and corporate policies. This is not
just for the upper ranks; this is becoming a proactive management of the corporation s entire talent
pool. Leadership development, integrating with talent management, and career development
programs, succession planning is going beyond the reactionary replacement of employees. Effective
succession planning is making it possible for the success of a organizations talent, on demand, and as
needed, right now and in the future. The biggest hindrances to organizations are time and resources. It
seems that the day to day challenges of running these companies over power the organization s ability
to effectively engage in succession planning. Many other obstacles occur when management feels
threatened because they are asked to train their successors; this is also in addition to being able to
predict the needs of the company in the company in the future. Many places do not have the internal
career development programs to help employees take over available positions in the future or have
clear career pathways defined. Being able to identify internal candidates with the right skills,

The Media Industry Of Capturing A Mass Audience
The mass media system has weathered repeated significant change with the coming of increasingly
sophisticated technologies from the penny press newspaper to mass marketed books and mass
circulated magazines, motion pictures, sound recordings, radio, television with the combination of
news and entertainment, moving images, and sound all for free. Furthermore, the internet, World Wide
Web, and mobile technologies emerged causing all media industries to face overwhelming alterations
in how they are structured and do business, the nature of their content, and how they interact with and
respond to their audience. Fifteen years ago the four major broadcast networks commanded 61% of all
television viewing. Today their share hovers around 30%. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Concentration of media ownership refers to the process where progressively fewer individuals or
organizations control increasing shares of the mass media, further impacting the consumers of media
because a lack of people in control of what is consumed every day leads to a lack of diversity in the
opinions consumers are forced to believe. Without a diversity of viewpoints, the public will not be
able to make up their own minds. This causes a loss of citizen access to information and the downfall
of political and social participation. In relation to the concentration of media ownership is
globalization, the process of multinational conglomerates performing the lion s share of media
acquisitions, potentially leading to a bias and misplaced priorities. The last of the forces is
hypercommercialism, the rise in the number of commercial minutes in a typical broadcast or cable
show used to recoup the costs involved in acquiring numerous media outlets, domestic and
international, and of reaching an increasingly fragmented audience; the selling of advertisements on
existing and new media and identifying additional ways to combine content and commercials are the
two most common strategies. This not only leads to consumers complaining that there are too many
digital ads, but also leads to the obvious overuse of product placement and brand entertainment,

Analysis Of The Poem Snake By D. H. Lawrence
The Psychology of the Serpent in D.H. Lawrence s Snake
Less than 17% of the world s snakes are poisonous and less than half of these are dangerous to man.
The risk of death as a result of snakebite is, in fact, lower than the risk of being struck by lightning
(Pinney 138). Nonetheless, cross culturally and throughout the world, the snake is an object of
fascination, fear, and respect for humankind. The serpent is a source of symbolic speculation, as it
appears in myth, dream, literature, and religion. In nature or otherwise, it is impossible to approach the
creature innocently (Morgenson 3). As D.H. Lawrence s poem, Snake , suggests, the snake s invoked
power in not a result of any physiological aspect of the snake s ... Show more content on

Intimidation is immediately established from the dawn of the poem, where Lawrence s narrator is in
pajamas for the heat , in the company of a visiting serpent (2). In such casual attire as pajamas, one is
left feeling vulnerable and exposed, susceptible to social attack. Lawrence s character is, of course,
vulnerable to the snake s venomous predation, but he is also susceptible to society s and human nature
s convictions of the slithering snake, which effectively influences the narrator s judgement. Naturally,
this intimidation is absurd. It continues throughout the poem while the narrator like a second comer
waits, but the snake, throughout the incident, proves to be harmless (15). The true daunting forces of
the narrator s sentiments are the voices of [his] education (22). While the said voices remain
mysterious, foreboding, and unnatural in Lawrence s realm of natural thought and environment, the
snake is familiar, and is accredited with figurative familiarity:
He lifted his head from drinking, as cattle do,
He looked at me vaguely as drinking cattle do (16 17).
Comparing the snake s actions to the docile, accustomed behaviour of a primarily agricultural species
lessens the threat that the snake projects, yet the poem s tension is not respectively decreased.
Ironically, the stereotypically conniving, quick witted serpent image in not reflected in this simile.
Cattle are slow, tribal

Nucor Steel
Nucor Corporation
Introduction
Nucor Corporation, the largest U.S. mini mill, continues to gain market share in flat roll and strip
steel. Recent successful acquisitions, application of new technologies, prospects for global growth, a
strong balance sheet, as well as improved economic outlook for the steel industry, make Nucor an
attractive buy with a near term stock price target of $65 to $70.
Background
Nucor Corporation (NUE) was founded by auto manufacturer Ranson E. Olds. Through a series of
permutations the company evolved into a nuclear instrument and electronics business, known as the
Nuclear Corporation of America before regaining its focus in the steel business and changing its name
to Nucor Corporation in 1972. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recently NUE has also completed projects that allow it to produce a combined additional 1,000,000
tons of steel product annually. This represents a fraction of the $200,000,000 spent in 2004 to upgrade
its production facilities. New U.S. production facilities have also been completed. These include a
steel plate mill in North Carolina and a deck plant in upstate New York as well a Castrip technology
production facility in Indiana. Current efforts are underway to build another Castrip plant in the U.S.
as well as another overseas.
NUE has pursued successful acquisitions. In March 2001 Nucor Steel purchased Auburn Steel
Company and acquired a 470,000 tons per year merchant bar, rebar and special bar quality steel mill.
This mill was a good strategic fit with Nucor s joist and deck plant nearby. With Nucor management in
place, the Auburn Steel Mill set a 26 year production record with continued growth from 2001 through
2004. In July 2002, Nucor purchased the former Trico Steel Company. This acquisition increased its
flat rolled steel production and is building market share in this segment. The initial production of this
plant at purchase was 1.2 million tons per year and the expected production for 2005 is 2.1 million
tons. This acquisition increased Nucor s sheet metal capacity by over a third. In December 2002 NUE
purchased Birmingham Steel for $615 million in cash. The four Birmingham Steel bar mills increased

Risks And Risk Management Plan
Risk Management Plan
Introduction
An important part any project is to identify risks and to determine how to address said risks. In this
paper, I will identify 10 risks that could occur during the making of Coleman Covenant Studios. I will
also assess and address each risk in detail. Although I am hopeful the completion of this project will
happen with minimal negative risks, I do realize hope is not a plan. For this reason, this risk
management plan is in place to acknowledge and prepare for a variety of unplanned events.
Planning Risk Management The purpose of this section is to determine how I will perform the risk
management process, who will be assigned to the risk management process, the budget, definitions of
risk and impact, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, the stakeholders are willing to accept a considerable amount of risk as long as a plan is in place
to address it.
Qualitative Risk Analysis In addition to determining the impact of each risk and the likelihood of that
risk occurring, I also prioritized the risks by ranking them. By ranking each risk, I am ensuring all
team members understand the important of each risk in relation to other risks. As mentioned earlier in
paper, the ranks are in parentheses above. Once the risks were ranked, I determined the probability of
each risk and the impact it would have on the project if it did occur. These numbers are factored into
the risk matrix below: Table 1. Risk Matrix
The high risk in red is venue selection. The moderate risks in yellow are under budget, promotion,
venue location, legal issues, natural force delay, and bank doesn t approve loan. The low risks in green
are grand opening troubles, ahead of schedule, and design change.
Quantitative Risk Analysis In this section, I will further analyze the high risk activity: venue selection.
This activity is identified as high risk because the likelihood that it will occur is 50% and if it occurs,
its impact is at a level nine. Proper venue selection is integral to the successful completion of the
project. Ideally, a clear lot will be selected. However, there is a 50/50 chance the lot selected will not
be clear and destruction will take place.

Today, many web sites on the Internet can use cookies to keep track of passwords and usernames and
track the sites a particular user visits (Cookiecentral.com). Cookies are used to track the browsing

beginning to think of cookies as an invasion of privacy. Because cookies track their Internet history,
and companies with web sites can use these cookies to track what sites the user visits frequently. Then

Factory Farming And Its Effects On Our Health
I had started a journey for a better and healthier lifestyle, but it took a turn and taught me about the
Factory Farming and how our food is affecting our health , the environment and the cruelty toward the
animals. Factory Farms are not the farms you see in a storybook or the picture you see on dairy
products and meat products, they are quite the opposite. Factory Farm is a modern farm where they
keep a large sum of livestock such as cattles , poultry, and fish in one area. According to ASPCA over
99% of farm animals in the U.S. are raised in factory farms for food. I had never realized how clueless

coli, obesity and many more. What constantly strikes me is the way they throw the animals waste in
the lagoon which causes air and water pollution and then pay fines for the violation because their
profit seems more important than other lives.
The problem is that today, everything we eat has meat in it. Many Americans love a juicy beef burger
with a side of fries or a hot dog at a summer bbq. In the article A Nation Of Meat Eaters: See How It
All Adds Up which was heard on Morning Edition reports that U.S has slightly dropped the meat
consumption per person to 270.7 pounds in the recent years, but we still consume more meat per
person than the rest of the country except for the Luxumbourgers and chicken is the number one meat
of choice after the beef consumption was declining in the 1970s (Aubrey, Charles, Wertheimer). The
demand for meat and dairy product is so high from the consumers that the company is coming with
new ideas to add meat and dairy product in their products, for example, Burger King came up with
Chicken fries then Mac and Cheetos ; today donut shops offer bacon donuts, the hot dog stands now
sells bacon wrapped hot dogs and the list goes on. You will hardly see any company coming up with

The Rise of Homelessness and What Can Be Done
Homelessness is a symptom of systemic poverty (http://www.kansascity.com/ ). As one of our country
s major social problems, homelessness is often in the news (http://www.ebooks.com/ ). Many seek
shelters for the first time. The Homeless Coalition of Greater Kansas City reports that on any given
night as many as 3,000 adults are homeless and more than 7,500 children are homeless on these
Kansas City streets. Since 2011 more than 7% people who live in the state of Kansas City has become

Taxicab Classification Essay
Our analysis is based on a sample size of fifteen jurisdictions. These cities were chosen on the basis of
geographic diversity and relevance: three major cities from the Northeast, three cities from the
Midwest, three cities from the South, and six cities from the West. Overall, these jurisdictions exhibit
a broad range of approaches to entry management and a variety of regulatory systems. Most of these
cities do not institute taxicab caps; in the sample, only six out of fifteen cities have caps.

unavoidable environmental effects, and the steps to be taken by state agencies to mitigate the

conditions, transportation, public health, neighborhood character, air quality and greenhouse gas

traffic, parking, pedestrians or bicycles, and transit facilities would be examined as well. Example:

3. Public Convenience Necessity ( PCN )
In order to operate a taxicab in certain jurisdictions, a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity
( CPCN ) is required. To apply for the certificate, a new entrant must first prove that he/she is
qualified by demonstrating his/her ability to provide a continuous taxicab service, lack of criminal
record, etc. Once qualified, the applicant must attend a Public Convenience and Necessity ( PCN )
hearing to make a case that there is a need for additional service. The burden of proof falls on the
applicant. During the hearing, stakeholders such as existing service providers are allowed to intervene,
and this may create a significant obstacle for the applicant. Examples: Chicago, Las Vegas and New
Orleans.

Structural Systems And Earthquakes Disasters
Structural Systems and Earthquakes Catastrophes have been feared since the beginning of time. They
occur in all shapes and sizes, and they have a variety of effects. One of the most shocking, as well as
most devastating of these occurrences, is earthquakes. The earliest recorded earthquake happened in
1769 in California (United States Geological Survey, 2014). Since that day, hundreds of thousands of
earthquakes occur each year. Earthquakes are an incredible act that is carried out randomly by a force
of nature. One of the scariest parts of this phenomenon is that it can happen at any moment in time,
and its effects are typically unpredictable. Though earthquakes may be considered irrelevant to some
parts of our country, their effects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, the movement of tectonics is monitored, and the movement can be predicted to some
degree. Even though we are able to predict some movement, the timing or an earthquake s force is
unable to be predicted at this time. Earthquakes occur when tectonic plates move and grind against
each other, thus releasing a massive amount of energy through seismic activity. When this happens,
those seismic waves hit the Earth s surface causing the ground to shake in a violent manner. When the
waves actually hit the earth, devices called seismometers, which are strategically placed across the
world, detect the magnitude of the earthquakes force. All of these elements play an important role in
our current understanding of earthquakes. Earthquake Forces When the tectonic plates slip and the
energy is released at the earth s surface, endless effects occur as a result. While this is taking place,
two types of waves associated with this action result: body waves and surface waves. Both of these
categories are divided into sub categories, but they essentially serve the same purpose. Body waves
are the first set of waves to hit the earth s surface, and they resemble water waves by the way they
move. They slowly move the material, horizontally displacing the soil. Surface waves may move the
material horizontally, but they also have the potential to move the ground vertically. Both of these
effects present an opportunity for disaster to

Trail Of Tears Essay
Trail of Tears The Trail of Tears is a name given to the Cleansing and forced relocation of Native
American nations from Southeastern parts of United States following the Indian Removal Act of 1830.
The phrase originated from a description of removal of the Choctaw Nation in 1831. We Cherokee
Indians have lived in our lands for centuries. The white setters forcefully came into our world and had
an eye on our land to grow cotton and other crops. First they wanted to civilize us and save our souls
by converting us to Christianity. Many of our people tried to comply, but they thought of us as alien
people and looked down upon us. The Choctaw, the Chickasaw, the Cherokee, the Muscogee, and the
Seminole (collectively called the Five Civilized Tribes) were living as autonomous nations in what
could be called to the American Deep South. They initially started harassing us by stealing livestock,
burning and looting our houses and squatting on our land which did not belong to them. The land they
coveted was the east of Mississippi as this land was valuable for growing cotton. Several state
governments passed laws limiting Native American sovereignty and rights, even though US Supreme
Court affirmed our nation to be sovereign in the case of Worcester v. Georgia (1832). In Cherokee
Nation v. Georgia (1831), the Supreme Court ruled the Cherokee nation was not sovereign and
independent nation, and even refused to hear the case. Tensions between Georgia and

The Importance Of Parent And Family Involvement In Education
There are many issues discussed when it comes to education including testing, school accountability,
teacher proficiency, and much more. There are many initiatives, programs, and reforms being
implemented to try to improve education outcomes for students. While the school, administration, and
teachers are an important part of student education, there is also another vital item needed to
encourage and ensure student learning: parent or family involvement in their child s education.
There are countless positive associations between parent and family engagement and student academic
confidence and success. Many organizations, including the National Parent Teacher Alliance (PTA)
and Parents for Public Schools (PPS), work to encourage parents and families take on an active role in
supporting and reinforcing their child s education. The PTA website gives many parent guides to

Improper And Inadequate Development Of Water Resources Essay
The improper and inadequate development of water resources in poor countries is causing damage to
the essential ecosystem as well as greatly affecting the condition of the environment. The water being
collected and the water that is released back to the ecosystem are not even comparable in any sense.
The lack of treatment leading to increased release of harmful contaminants directly into the rivers is
clearly interrupting the ecosystem (Molden November 2012). Many from other rural areas are
constantly migrating to the big cities to gain access to fresh water and causing rapid urbanization,
which is in turn becoming an even bigger threat to the ecosystem. Under these situations, the
economic condition of the Global South cannot be improved, as this will be a continuous fight to
remain on top. Thus a sustainable developmental plan is necessary to gain back the control over fresh
water. The paper will discuss a few major issues with water and the environment, and try to suggest
ways to improve the conditions for a better future both environmentally and economically in the
global south. Water and Economy The seventh UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in 2001 said fierce
competition for fresh water may well become a source for conflict and wars in the future . While the

How The Financial System Has Continuously Since The First...
1 Introduction The financial system has continuously evolved since the first accord was written. The
financial crisis has brought light to how imperative it is to have a stringent but flexible set of accords.
Since the period of 1993 to 2008, there has been a 12 fold increase in total assets held by global
systematic important banks while only a seven fold increase in the capital funding of these assets.
Global systematic banks are banks whose distress or failure could lead to severe repercussions to the
overall financial market due to their size, complexity and the systemic interconnectedness. Coupled
with the increase in leverage there was also an erosion of the quality of the capital, throughout this
period. The market lost confidence in the banking institution, leading to a major contraction in
liquidity available. This transmitted throughout the rest of the economy and only with the help of a
public bailout were the damages curtailed. The globalization and interconnectedness of the financial
market has led to the phenomenal growth post WW2. However with commerce taking place over a
global scale, and the financial market connecting lenders and savers throughout the world there has
become an apparent need for oversight and regulation. The breakdown of the Bretton Wood exchange
rate in 1973, caused banks to lose substantial money through unsettled trades and foreign currency
losses in the Herstatt risk fiasco. This led to the central banks of the G10 countries to establish

The European And British Traders Essay
The European and British traders initially came to India for trading purposes. The Industrial
Revolution in Britain led to the increase in demand for raw materials for the factories there and at the
same time they also required a market to sell their finished products. India provided such a platform to
Britain to fulfill its needs. There was great political unrest within the country during the 18th century
and with the declining power of the Mughals, the British officials gained an opportunity to get hold of
the Indian subcontinent. This was followed by a rapid expansion of British power through the greater
part of the Indian subcontinent in the early 19th century. By the middle of the century the British had
already gained direct or indirect control over almost all of the region. British India, consisting of the
directly ruled British presidencies and provinces, was established and contained the most populous
and valuable parts of the British Empire The European Colonies of the Indian Subcontinent are the
areas of the Indian subcontinent which were under the control of European colonial powers, through
trade and conquest. The first European power to arrive in the subcontinent was the army of Alexander
the Great in present day Eastern Afghanistan and Western Pakistan in 327 326 BC. Later, trade was
carried out between various Indian states and the Roman Empire by Roman sailors who reached India

The land westward seemed a pioneer s paradise and this Oregon fever overtook many individuals

Many were helpful by trading supplies to travelers (Jaffe 23), but other times they would steal horses,

it difficult to communicate and interact with each other. In the pioneers best interests, the train would
include a guide or a missionary that could communicate with the Native Americans. Thus showing the
pioneers found a way to bridge the gap and effectively communicate with the Native Americans.
In addition, the religious beliefs of people motivated them to complete their journey. For example
missionaries including Jason Lee, Marcus and Narcissa Whitman, and Henry and Eliza Spalding
successfully created mission stations along the Oregon trail (Woodworth 58). Once established,
however, missionaries struggled to maintain funding. As a result, Marcus Whitman, journeyed back
east to seek additional support. Whitman faced a difficult and dangerous journey through the cold
winter months, but his beliefs helped him to persevere and survive the trip. When people back home
learned of Whitman s courage and determination, he was able to convince the American Board of
Commissioners for Foreign Missions to provide additional funding (Woodworth 71). In another

their religious leader Brigham Young to Utah and successfully settled there. With his leadership and

hemophilia is a genetic one which means it is inherited, and to this day there is still no cure but
treatment to live with this disorder. Hemophilia can and does affect all racial and ethnic groups of
people and within those groups it has been found that majority of those with hemophilia are men. Now
being that this is inherited let s look in to the chromosome theory of inheritance, this theory brings
forth the idea that the genes are located on chromosomes. This line of thought was based on the
experiments of Thomas Hunt Morgan using fruit flies. So, with those findings from the data given it

Thomas Hobbes Pros And Cons
1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of physical violence. During 1600s people started to
look at the world around them differently because of the English Civil War going on. This caused
thinkers called Philosophes to think about government and how it should work. Thomas Hobbes was
one of the philosophes that believed people were evil. Thomas Hobbes lived through the english civil
war and that shaped many of his opinions on humanity. He also tried to answer the question Why do
we have government. Hobbes believed people were selfish and evil and he also believed that before
government people were always at war. One of Hobbes major beliefs about government was that there
should only be one person in power to prevent disagreements, and no ... Show more content on

Hobbes also said that In such condition there is no place for industry... no knowledge of the face of the
earth. He didn t think that it was possible for people to accomplish anything in the state of nature.
Hobbes also believed there would be knowledge in the world because everyone would be arguing and
at war. People were naturally evil in hobbes point of view and that s why people would never
accomplish anything if there were always competing against each other and wasting there time.
Hobbes did not like the idea of living in a state of nature and he saw it as an opportunity for people to
be at war and fight because of the lack of laws. He claimed that During the time men live without a
common power to keep them in awe, they are in that conditions called war. Hobbes saw the state of
nature as a time for wars because there were no rules that people would fear and people need to have a
fear to be in control. People would have no laws to keep them in control and it wouldn t go well for
the society. Hobbes did not think that people would be civilized without laws and people would be bad
and evil towards each

Pep Rallies Essay
Essay Question 1: Name two ways to get students interested in attending pep rallies. A pep rally is a
great way to encourage school spirit. Most students enjoy them because they are able to skip class and
won t have to worry about assignments. I appreciate pep rallies because I love to hear the sound of the
crowd. When more people attend pep rallies, the crowd is extremely loud and proud! This makes it
easier for us to pump up the crowd for game day! Two ways I can get students more interested in
attending them include showing more school spirit around the school and letting them vote on the
games we could play. One reason showing more school spirit could improve the attendance at a pep
rally is because they are more influenced to go. By this, I mean ... Show more content on

In next year s cheer program, I d like to enforce conditioning. Working out and conditioning are very
important parts of being a cheerleader. We need to look our best while we are out there supporting our
panthers. I d also like for there to be less miscommunications. By miscommunications, I mean
everyone is not on task or there are others being left out. When people are on task and everyone is
together, we can get things done quicker and learn a lot more! Also, if there are less problems, most of
us will not even have time to have negative attitudes. Essay Question 8: What is something the
cheerleaders did last year that you felt was effective? One thing that I felt was most effective last year
includes giving the locker rooms candy or sweet treats. The boys took our creative and inspiring
posters that we had made for them and they kept them all year long. These posters influenced them to
do their best at the game that night. They also appreciated the food by thanking us at school! Even
though we did not get anything back in return, I find it incredible that we can make others smile and

The Collapse of Democratic Choice
With over 1 million businesses operating in Canada, corporate responsibility is a major issue that
should be recognized by citizens within society. In simple terms, corporate responsibility is the ethics
and morals of a business. Many corporations in Canada have a tremendous amount of wealth and
power. Regulation is essential in order for good government. Corporate responsibility occurs when
initiatives taken by these corporations benefit all the stakeholders. These stakeholders vary from the
employees, to the customer, and to the community. Corporate responsibility is necessary in Canada in
order to secure its democracy, protection of consumers, and sustainability of our society. Therefore, it
is important that Canada has a tight leash on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, what about the majority and common good of the people, like jobs? Murray Dobbin is one
of Canada s most popular progressive political commentators and analysts who explained that,
They influence politicians and political parties with huge amounts of cash; they threaten government
that dare to consider any laws that lessen their power or privilege; they withdraw capital to punish
governments that don t take them seriously; they spend millions on lobbyist to persuade legislators
(Dobbin).
Officials are not required to keep formal records of their contracts with lobbyists, and there is some
scope for lobbyists to avoid registration by claiming that they are merely responding to requests for
information from officials. The government has set up regulations relating to lobbying, but these
regulations are not restricting lobbying, it is making it even more legal. Teeple outlined that,
The process of registering lobbyists began under the Mulroney government in 1989. The Lobbyists
Registration Act essentially puts the onus on lobbyists to register, pay a fee, and list their areas of
interest. By its very principles, the Act legitimizes the role of the lobbying industry (Teeple).
It has to be emphasized that registration is not regulation . Allowing lobbyist to enter parliament
legitimately eats away at Canada s democracy even more. It is a form of corruption, because really it

  • 2. Personal Narrative Analysis The rogue hunks of plastic were out of control. My maneuvering and contorting to avoid being pelted was futile. (**leave one word**). The strings tangled around me and the glow sticks smacked me in the forehead forcefully. Needless to say, they left a mark. My friend s attempt to teach me the art of poi was fruitless. In simple terms, poi is the art of dancing while spinning pendulums to create patterns usually with light. In my case, I was whirling glow sticks on shoelaces dangerously close to my face, shins, and erm other areas. When first witnessing the spectacle, I was mesmerized. The geometry and fluidity of movement were particularly magnificent (tense?). Also admirable was the precision the art form commanded; one wrong wrist motion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I came to realize that learning the basic weaving motion is like riding a bicycle. A cathartic moment will come to those who are patient, and after that, the skill can never be forgotten. Once learned, this 2 beat weave seems so fluid and natural it s a wonder that it wasn t obvious earlier. My epiphany elated me, and I craved to learn more. After conquering the fundamentals, I enjoyed a rapid accumulation of knowledge. I have always been a bit of a polymath, and even though poi did not come naturally to me at first, once I had momentum, learning the rest was easy. When I next saw my friend, she was in disbelief that I was able to learn autonomously, and that the magnitude of my progress was so great. Over the period of a weekend, my skills had surpassed those of my mentor. As with many of my interests, my fondness for poi quickly became a minor obsession. (At other times my primary interests were making friendship bracelets, crafting wallets out of duct tape, and painting.) I placed an order for two pairs of authentic poi more professional than my homemade glow stick set that served me well for three months and even asked requested more for Christmas. With these I would practice whenever I had a spare moment; I even carried them around in my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Beowulf Monster Vs Hero Essay In Christian medieval culture, the term monster was used to refer to anything born with defects, as they were deemed God given signs of bad things to come. However, when exactly does a person gain the title of hero ? From acts of defeating monsters, to defending a distressed village against a powerful plague, many are then considered heroes, yet when someone considered a monster does something heroic, does that cancel out their villainy? And vice versa? While Beowulf exhibits a multitude of heroic attributes, his undermining beast like qualities are hard to miss, and essentially pose the question to the reader: What is the relationship between monster and hero, and is there an overlap? The epic Beowulf blurs the lines between what it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With a great and horrendous monster like Grendel, one would think that the author would describe the onset fear he produces onto his victims. However, when Grendel and Beowulf commence their battle, there is an immediate change of tone and diction that visibly illustrates a fear of Beowulf and his strength. From The captain of evil discovered himself in a handgrip harder than anything he had ever encountered in any man on the face of the Earth. (lines 749 752) to It was the worst trip the terror monger had taken to Heorot. (lines 764 765). If the poet were to omit the nouns used to entitle Grendel(captain of evil and terror monger), with that of his actual name, one could not help but sympathize with his pain. The climax of his fear ends with Then an extraordinary wail arose, and bewildering fear came over the Danes. (lines 781 783). It is interesting to see that the Danes is described as in fear, once Grendel has cried out in explicit pain due to his defeat. This ties back to the roles and relationship of Heroes and Monsters. Whilst Beowulf is the Hero of this epic, his presence and actions descriptively trigger the most fear among the monster, and thus the the danes as well. This leads to the manifestation of a sort of evil twin story line. An evil twin story usually depicts physical copies of protagonists, but with profoundly inverted moralities. However, ... • 4. Jack Sparrow And The Golden Age Of Piracy The Golden Age of Piracy is the subject of many Hollywood films. One of the most popular film series in recent years is the series Pirates of the Caribbean. But how accurately does the movie capture the Golden Age of Piracy that spanned from the 1650 s to the 1730 s? In order to answer this question, a team of researchers will examine the mythology, the pirate s code, the weapons, and compare real pirates to the main protagonist, Jack Sparrow in the movie to see if he closely resembles the pirates of real life. • 5. Mountain Climbers Research Paper Should climbers be entitled to rescue services on a mountain? When people are climbing mountains such as Mount Everest or Mount Rainier they know what kind of danger they are placing themselves in. Many people think that because the services exist they can abuse it and call for help at any time. Even though these services exist they should only be used in a crisis, because more people than one climber are being put at risk. As the mountains grow in popularity more people want to travel to them. Many companies are going in debt because of climbers who think they know what they are doing when they do not. Furthermore, the reason some people have for needing rescued are ridiculous. These are three main topics as to why climbers should not be entitled to a rescue. To start off, people who climb places such as Mount Everest and Mount Rainier put more than themselves at risk. Many will argue that this is the reason rescue services exist. Although that is true, they were created for crisis situations. For example, in Source 3 a park ranger on Mount ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A climber may be at a high altitude and need rescue for a decision that went wrong, so the rescue services would send a helicopter to try and export the climber. Now that he has died, she is considering using the money to support the activities of the local Hunger Task Force, an organization that provides donated food to those who need it. What should Martha do? My position from a Kantian perspective is that Martha should give the money to the Society for Protection against Alien Control of the Earth (SPACE) because of the agreement Martha made with George before he died. I shall present arguments to support my position from a Kantian perspective by setting the precedence demonstrated by Kant as is evidence in duty and moral obligation. I will also present arguments to refute the utilitarian position that Martha should use the money to support the activities of the local Hunger Task Force, an organization that provides donated food to those who need it. As well as the arguments present by Kants catergorical imperative. Kant ascribes Duty means that we should never act in any way that we wouldn t want the principle we act on to be a universal law. Before technology was so readily available, employees of companies had a harder time tracking inventory. Today one can go into a large retailer and ask an employee to check if an item is in stock and all the employee would have to do is check a little hand held device. The four types of inventory systems that Team A decided to research and discuss were: Advanced Tracking System (ATS), Perpetual Inventory System, Periodic Inventory System, and Just In Time Inventory System. It is also well suited for the type of industries where there isn t much processing to do, so the inventory exists at only one level (for sale) rather than at three levels (raw materials, work in progress and for sale) (Kulkarni, 2010). Periodic Inventory System A periodic inventory control is a system with no continuous record of changes. Inventory is only tracked periodically instead of per the transaction. At the end of a specific period, usually an accounting period; quarterly or monthly, the ending inventory is found by a physical count. The cost of each item is computed and deducted from the sum of purchases and the beginning of the inventory to calculate cost of goods sold (Business Dictionary, 2010). The periodic inventory system keeps the inventory balance at the same value that it was at the beginning of the period. The inventory level is not updated after purchases, for accounting purposes; this system uses an account called purchases at the end of the period, rather than debiting inventory. Just In Time (JIT) Inventory System Just In Time inventory system known as JIT is one of inventory systems used in companies to deliver a finished product to customers quickly to reduce the overall ordering and inventory holding cost (Atkinson, 2005). The system proves to be most effective for companies that lose money for holding a product in its inventory for an extended period of time and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Furthermore, the internet, World Wide Web, and mobile technologies emerged causing all media industries to face overwhelming alterations in how they are structured and do business, the nature of their content, and how they interact with and respond to their audience. Concentration of media ownership refers to the process where progressively fewer individuals or organizations control increasing shares of the mass media, further impacting the consumers of media because a lack of people in control of what is consumed every day leads to a lack of diversity in the opinions consumers are forced to believe. Intimidation is immediately established from the dawn of the poem, where Lawrence s narrator is in pajamas for the heat , in the company of a visiting serpent (2). In such casual attire as pajamas, one is left feeling vulnerable and exposed, susceptible to social attack. Lawrence s character is, of course, vulnerable to the snake s venomous predation, but he is also susceptible to society s and human nature s convictions of the slithering snake, which effectively influences the narrator s judgement. Naturally, this intimidation is absurd. It continues throughout the poem while the narrator like a second comer waits, but the snake, throughout the incident, proves to be harmless (15). The true daunting forces of the narrator s sentiments are the voices of [his] education (22). While the said voices remain mysterious, foreboding, and unnatural in Lawrence s realm of natural thought and environment, the snake is familiar, and is accredited with figurative familiarity: He lifted his head from drinking, as cattle do, He looked at me vaguely as drinking cattle do (16 17). They occur in all shapes and sizes, and they have a variety of effects. One of the most shocking, as well as most devastating of these occurrences, is earthquakes. The earliest recorded earthquake happened in 1769 in California (United States Geological Survey, 2014). Since that day, hundreds of thousands of earthquakes occur each year. Earthquakes are an incredible act that is carried out randomly by a force of nature. Additionally, the movement of tectonics is monitored, and the movement can be predicted to some degree. Even though we are able to predict some movement, the timing or an earthquake s force is unable to be predicted at this time. Earthquakes occur when tectonic plates move and grind against each other, thus releasing a massive amount of energy through seismic activity. When this happens, those seismic waves hit the Earth s surface causing the ground to shake in a violent manner. When the waves actually hit the earth, devices called seismometers, which are strategically placed across the world, detect the magnitude of the earthquakes force. All of these elements play an important role in our current understanding of earthquakes. Earthquake Forces When the tectonic plates slip and the energy is released at the earth s surface, endless effects occur as a result. While this is taking place, two types of waves associated with this action result: body waves and surface waves. Both of these categories are divided into sub categories, but they essentially serve the same purpose. Body waves are the first set of waves to hit the earth s surface, and they resemble water waves by the way they move. They slowly move the material, horizontally displacing the soil. Surface waves may move the material horizontally, but they also have the potential to move the ground vertically. Both of these effects present an opportunity for disaster to ... Trail Of Tears Essay Trail of Tears The Trail of Tears is a name given to the Cleansing and forced relocation of Native American nations from Southeastern parts of United States following the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The white setters forcefully came into our world and had an eye on our land to grow cotton and other crops. First they wanted to civilize us and save our souls by converting us to Christianity. Improper And Inadequate Development Of Water Resources Essay The improper and inadequate development of water resources in poor countries is causing damage to the essential ecosystem as well as greatly affecting the condition of the environment. The water being collected and the water that is released back to the ecosystem are not even comparable in any sense. The lack of treatment leading to increased release of harmful contaminants directly into the rivers is clearly interrupting the ecosystem (Molden November 2012). The financial crisis has brought light to how imperative it is to have a stringent but flexible set of accords. Since the period of 1993 to 2008, there has been a 12 fold increase in total assets held by global systematic important banks while only a seven fold increase in the capital funding of these assets. Global systematic banks are banks whose distress or failure could lead to severe repercussions to the overall financial market due to their size, complexity and the systemic interconnectedness. Coupled with the increase in leverage there was also an erosion of the quality of the capital, throughout this period. The market lost confidence in the banking institution, leading to a major contraction in liquidity available. This transmitted throughout the rest of the economy and only with the help of a public bailout were the damages curtailed. The globalization and interconnectedness of the financial market has led to the phenomenal growth post WW2. However with commerce taking place over a global scale, and the financial market connecting lenders and savers throughout the world there has become an apparent need for oversight and regulation.
