Analysis Of Miss Peregrine s Home For Peculiar Children By...
Society often creates an unspoken set of standards on what defines normal . Then, we imprint these
ideals into the brains of children and they live their lives conforming and never thriving. Tim Burton,
an advocate for individuality, uses his films to break these standards. Burton incorporates Misfit
protagonists and Motherly/Fatherly figures in Alice in Wonderland and Miss Peregrine s Home for
Peculiar Children to display that young people truly find themselves when they deviate from the path
society chose for them.
Burton often integrates misfit protagonists who, throughout the movie, find themselves. For instance,
in the film Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children, Jake, a young man struggling to find himself,
discovers his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is in Wonderland that Alice discovers her true path of slaying the Jabberwocky. Alice is looked
down upon for her whimsical thinking and wacky comments in a society that strives for prim and
proper. Luckily, for Alice, Wonderland shares her whimsical and wacky ways. Alice is not only
accepted; she is cherished for she is the chosen one. She is no longer a misfit. Just like Jake, she finds
her path by disregarding the one already chosen for them but that would not have happened without
the help of Motherly/Fatherly figures.
Burton frequently uses Motherly/Fatherly Figures to help push the main character towards reaching
their full potential. For example, in the film Alice in Wonderland, Mad Hatter, a middle aged man
going through a mental break, guides Alice as she navigates her way through Wonderland. High key
lighting and medium shots help to create a halo effect on him, for he is a light in the darkness. In the
tea party scene, there are many dark colors and shadows, but not on the Hatter to show the contrast
between him and the setting. Hatter is very protective of Alice just as a father would be of his
daughter. He has watched her mature. Hatter also lost his family tragically, which leads him to crave
the love and affection of family. Alice fills this void for Hatter. Likewise, Alice lost her father and is
looking for someone who understands her. They complete one another. Furthermore, in the film Miss

What Is The Difference Between Romeo And Juliet 1968 Play
For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo. William Shakespeare. Romeo
and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare early in his career about two young star crossed
lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. It was among Shakespeare s most
popular plays during his lifetime and along with Hamlet, is one of his most frequently performed
plays. The 1968 film version of Romeo and Juliet is a British Italian romance film based on the tragic
play by William Shakespeare. The film was directed and co written by Franco Zeffirelli, and starred
Olivia Hussey as Juliet Capulet, and Leonard Whiting as Romeo Montague. The film of 1968 is by far
the best and most adapted version of the play, and most popular version as well. ... Show more content

This version was the first to use actors who were close to the age of the characters from the original
play. Not only were the actors age very accurate, their portrayal of the characters were so believable
because the actors playing Romeo and Juliet actually fell in love in the making of the film. All of the
actors of the film played their characters very well and made them come to life. Olivia and Leonard
told the story of Romeo and Juliet very accurately not only through their lines but with their body
language. Viewers can really feel the emotional connection between the two. All the relationships
between characters was spot on, my favorite being Lord Capulet and Paris. Although the acting
throughout the film was very good, some scenes weren t as good as the others. The worst scenes
would have to be the deaths of Mercutio and Tybalt. Those two death scenes were very unbelievable
and unrealistic and didn t give viewers the burden of emotion as

Living Off The Grid Summary
In his book, Living Off the Grid:A Simple Guide to Creating and Maintaining a Self Reliant Supply of
Energy, Water, Shelter and More (2008) Dave Black lists the following eight reasons many people are
choosing to go off grid in America today: There is no grid available, to minimize environmental
impact of the grid and leave a smaller carbon footprint, to avoid utility costs, saving money by
lowering bills, emergency insurance, entertainment of an intelligent mind, reducing use of fossil fuels,
and public image. He goes on to explain that whatever reason or reasons a person may choose to go
off grid there is a long list of realities that one must face in relation to such an undertaking. Ability,
location, shelter, laws, resources needed, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are several ways to build the walls and floor so that heat is stored in the day and released at
night. Night and day temperatures, as well as seasonal angles of the sun are things to think about in
terms of location if you plan to build a home that utilizes solar energy, such as an earthship. Dave
Black states An east west axis (90 degrees to true south) allows the longer side of the structure to be
exposed to the sun. That s where the big windows should be. North and east facing windows can lose a
lot of heat in the winter, and west facing glass can cause overheating in summer, so they should be few
and small.(Use overhangs over the windows to protect the interior from too much summer sun.......) .
Earthships are also an environmentally friendly model because of the fact that they can be made from
recycled materials such as tires, cans, beams made from recycled trash, etc. Walls made of stacked
tires filled with cans serve to store and release heat when needed. This fact also makes it a viable
option for a low budget home. Since most, or all, of an earthship can be built with what is essentially
trash, most of your building materials can be found cheap or free, provided you have access to a road
system. There are many other ways to create an off

Genetic Testing or Genetic Screening
Genetic testing, also known as screening, is a rapidly advancing new scientific field that can
potentially revolutionize not only the world of medicine, but many aspects of our lives. Genetic
screening is the sequencing of human DNA in order to discover genetic differences, anomalies, or
mutations that may prove pathological. As genetic screening becomes more advanced and easily
accessible, it presents society with difficult questions that must be asked about the boundaries of
science and to what degree we are allowed to tamper with the human genome. To better understand
the potential impact of genetic screening on our society, we must examine the potential benefits in
comparison to the possible negative impact it may cause. With this ... Show more content on

335). There are many reasons to support further research into genetic screening but unfortunately such
a complicated and controversial field also brings up ethical, legal and social issues that need to be
addressed. One of the greatest issues surrounding genetic screening is one of privacy and potential
discrimination. Some people fear that a predictive test that shows someone is at higher risk of
developing a particular condition can be used against said person. Employers could become interested
in knowing the probabilities of their workers developing chronic conditions, which might lead to
hiring discrimination. Genetic predispositions towards certain diseases could also be used to deny
health insurance to some individuals. This may seem unlikely but it is an issue that definitely warrants
concern. Brynne Stainsby s father was diagnosed with the gene that causes degenerative brain
disorder, meaning she had one in two odds of developing Huntington s disease. When preparing to
start her own chiropractic practice she learned that it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to
get covered if she possesses this same gene. Simply coming from a family that was predisposed to
Huntington s disease was enough to disqualify her from life or disability insurance. Many people find
it hard to believe that such discrimination could occur in a country as

Fdr s Economic Reform
From the early to mid 20th century, the U.S. underwent severe economic changes due to the internal
problems. A system of laissez faire does not protect the people in the most damaging recession, the
Great Depression. A shift from Hoover to FDR, leads to reform in the New Deal. Later in World War
II, the U.S. will isolate itself to focus on the internal economy. The changes in the economy reflected
back into the world and into domestic policy. Internally, reform and relief will bring back the nation
and the focus of internal economy would create global problems. The U.S. s economic policy shaped
the nation as a welfare state from FDR s New Deal and proved to be a world power from the causes
and post war effects of World War II . The Great Depression ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The National Recovery Administration would focus on labor reform as a 40 hour work week and
$3.50 minimum wage is established. The Works Progress Administration would provide temporary
jobs and the the Emergency Banking Relief Act would establish the new American banking system.
These are only a few of the alphabet agencies from the new deal. As the citizens became reliant on
federal aid, FDR set the government as a welfare government, helping the people out of their
economic crises. Along with the New Deal, Americans are also practicing FDR s policy of
isolationism. This again establishes U.S. s role of a world power. The U.S. s inability to convene in
world affairs leads to World War II. For example, the U.S. ignores the Spanish Civil War in which
fascist Francisco Franco wins with help from Nazi Germany. Then, the U.S. creates the Neutrality
Acts, which prevents Britain and France from receiving war materials and aid as they did in World
War I. These barriers result in the expansion of Nazi Germany and the fall of France. The U.S will
break their isolationist policy and join the Allies after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. From their
position of a world power, the U.S. would be placed on the Security Council in the U.N.. As a world
power, they will also provide monetary

There are various pressing factors that contribute to overweight Latino children. Latino adolescents
find few options for physical activity out of class. Some areas have limited access to parks,
playgrounds, and other recreational areas, making it difficult for them to be active and maintain a
healthy weight. Schools are also contributing to the issue. A majority of today s Schools sell high fat,
high sugar snack foods and beverages in vending machines and school stores. These malicious foods
are easier to come by and cheaper, appealing more to the developing minds of students. Schools have
been known to lack access of healthy foods, such as fresh produce, whole grains, and low fat dairy
products (Latino Childhood Obesity). Marketers are also a huge contribution to the rise in obesity
among the Latino youth. About 74 percent of kid targeted food and drinks ads on television promote
foods in the lowest nutritional category (Ramirez). Young children are affected more by food
advertisements, especially fast foods. Fast food commercials advertise toys with the purchase of a kid
s meal that appeals to young kids. Also, restaurants use cartoon advertisement, like Ronald McDonald,
to encourage children to want to go there, increasing their intake of high calorie and Tran s fat food.

Questions Role What decisions do they make? What questions do they need answered? Work flow
In what context will they be reviewing the dashboard? What information are they using on a daily
basis? How much time do they have to review the numbers? Data comfort and skills How
sophisticated are they with using data? Are they proficient in Excel? Do they enjoy digging into the
numbers? Business and data expertise How familiar are they with the key performance metrics? Do
they understand where the data comes from? Are they familiar with internal company or industry
terminology?
Implication Structure the information to make it super easy to answer high priority questions. The
form and information display needs to fit into an existing work flow. For example, an on the road sales
person may need information delivered to her BlackBerry, not designed for an online wide screen
monitor.
The dashboard s level of detail and analytical capabilities should match the audiences comfort zone.
This determines the need for embedded explanations and use of natural language.

from Pi s description; Richard Parker is a name of the hunter who caught him, because the mistake of

man s name. In the story, Richard Parker used him instead of it , proved the tiger s personification.
Further more, he expressed excessive endures for Pi. He ate the animals and a blind man except Pi.
These also can make people re examine the role of Bengal tiger as well. In the third part, as the only
survivor of ship of Pi, he told his all experience on the ocean with Bengal tiger but Japanese Ministry
of Transport didn t believe the story. Then he told another story, the four animals became four people.
He described sailor s broken leg, the ferocious of cook, the kind hearted mother, and the instinct of Pi.
The plot in the second story is correspond to the first story very well. From his state of second story,
the research also found the connection with the two story, So the Taiwanese sailor is the zebra, his
mother is the orangutan, the cook is...the hyena? Which mean he is the tiger! [Chpater 99]

Kinetic Energy Lab Report
Speed, height, and mass do affect kinetic energy. In our lab work, we had to do multiple tests by
dropping a can onto a clay ball. We wrote down our data to prove that speed, height, and mass affect
kinetic energy. This is the lab data explained.
In our first lab, we had to drop different masses of cans from a height onto a 3cm clay ball and see
how much it got squished. Our data consisted of dropping a 418g, 227g, 624g, and 425g can from
30cm to a clay ball. For example, with a 418g can, the ball was squished down to 2.7cm while a 227g
can squished a ball down to 2.9cm. This shows that the larger mass of the can, the more the clay got
squashed, so the more mass the object is, the more kinetic energy takes place.
In our second

analysis have been reviewed in this literature. The analyses of EROI results for different fuel types
especially EROI results of hydropower plants are also presented. The essential features of storage type
hydropower plants also have been generally discussed as an important part of EROI s Energy input
calculation. Special attention will now be given to the hydropower resources in Myanmar in Chapter 3
and the detailed discussion of storage type hydropower plants will be addressed. Chapter 3
Hydropower Resources in Myanmar 3.1 Introduction Myanmar has tremendous hydropower potential;
however the majority of this potential has remained undeveloped due to the economic and political
disturbances. The technical feasible potential from the major rivers and other potential water resources
support the country as one of the renewable energy rich countries amongst its neighbouring, energy
demand countries especially China, and India. Due to the increase in electricity demand of the
domestic and cross border regional energy trade issues (Kattelus et al., 2015), the necessities for the
extraction of the large hydropower resources should be fulfilled from the geopolitical perspective. In

Analysis Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birth Mark
Nathaniel Hawthorne was seen as a major figure in the American romantic movement (Constantakis
1). Additionally, Hawthorne created allegories of the dark, irredeemable human condition, a point of
view most likely traceable to the author s New England Puritan roots (Constantakis 2). Concerning
Hawthorne s writing style, he often focused on concrete particulars his tales elevate into symbols, and
his works speak from and to the unconscious that people dream their way into every night and set
aside when they rise from their beds to act (Bunge 4). This short story was first published in March
1943 in Pioneer...under Hawthorne s own name (Newman 29). The beginning of the short story The
Birth Mark relates the union of Aylmer, a scientist who was highly distinguished within his
community but personally unsatisfied due to his severe perfectionism, with his wife, Georgiana.
Unfortunately for their relationship, Aylmer obsessed over the possible removal of his wife s hand
shaped birth mark, which he saw as the sole thing that stood between him and a perfect wife, so
Georgiana agreed to have the mark removed. Soon afterwards, Aylmer furnished a lavishly decorated
space for Georgiana to stay in while he developed an elixir in his laboratory to remove her mark; he
also attempted to delight her with several of his other scientific creations, but they did not always have
the intended effect. Georgiana later read notes that Aylmer kept that pertained to his earlier

Earthquake Kathryn Schulz Summary
The first page Kathryn Schulz talks about what the different magnitudes of an earthquake are and how
they affect the surrounding areas; she also talks about how long some earthquakes of different
magnitudes last. She talks about what it was like to hear and be around the earthquake at the very
beginning. I believe that this section of the text is there to build suspense. It is also there to give us
vital background information about earthquakes that we need to know to further understand the text
later. She placed this part of the text here because it is the best place to starts building suspense and to
give us background information.
On the second page she is giving us facts about different fault lines. She is also talking about tectonic
plates and other things pertaining to earthquakes. She wrote this part of the paper to convince us. She
wants to convince us that Cascadia fault line is more dangerous that the San Andreas fault line. She
does this by using facts about both of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also about how we are not prepared for anything like what would happen to actually happen. This
part of the text, again, is here to scare to readers. It is here to make the readers truly understand how ill
prepared we are if something like this to actually happen.
On the seventh page she talks about how if an earthquake were to hit, it would take a lot longer for
everything to be fixed then it would take for everything to break. She also reitterates that we are not
ready. She then starts to ask what we should do to fix this problem. This page is here to start to draw
the article to a close. It is here to take all the ideas she has been talking about and tie them all together.
On the last page Kathryn Schulz talks about how we might be able to fix the problem of not being
prepared. She also says that we are, yet again, still not ready. This last part of the article finishes

That Evening Sun By William Faulkner And The Poem Analysis
In both the short story That Evening Sun by William Faulkner and the poem Poem about My Rights
by June Jordan, racism against blacks is criticized through bringing its evils to the surface by these
literary works. Despite using different literary mediums to convey their messages, both works reveal
to their respective audiences that racism against blacks leads to feelings of inferiority and helplessness
in blacks, a collective fear of the wrath of the white man in blacks, and an indifference in the general
white population towards the fears of blacks. The idea that racism makes blacks feel as if they are
powerless in the domain of whites is something that can be seen within That Evening Sun. In the story,
Nancy lives in fear of her husband Jesus, as she believes that he has returned and plans to kill her.
Nancy is most affected by her fears when she is not around the white Compson family. This is because
Nancy is aware that her husband, being a black man, wouldn t dare commit harm against Nancy when
she is around whites, because he feels powerless around them. This is why Nancy attempts to avoid
her and Jesus s confrontation by sleeping in the Compson household and also by taking the Compson
children to her house. Due to the racism that exists in the time period the story is set in, Jesus cannot
do what he wants to do to Nancy, because being in the dominion of white people essentially takes
away his force. He knows that if he tries to harm Nancy, but in the process

Treadwell s Relationship With Animals In Literature
Human beings have always looked for similarities between themselves and other people as to gain
common ground. However people also attempt to make connections between themselves and the more
primal parts of nature. Animals have been along side people for centuries and them being by our side
we ve assigned them certain traits and meanings as an attempt to connect with them on a deeper level.
The Egyptians treated felines as almost gods in their culture because, after domestication, they killed
vermin which helped crops grow. That praise evolved into worship, and gave felines new meaning
among human beings. In many ways humans change animals to suit their purposes in literature and as
to allow us to more finely tune our imagination to the lives of animals. Human beings don t have any
idea what it s like anymore to be one with their natural surroundings which is why we focus so
intently on relating to the lives of animals. The more we try to become kindred with animals, the more
definitive the relationship between humans and animals becomes. Our relationship is almost anything
we decide it to be on our end of it, but as for the animals they seem to fairly indifferent. We can say
whatever we want to say about our own relationships with animals, but they re not going to ignore
their own primal instincts no matter what we say. This is demonstrated through Timothy Treadwell s
experience with the grizzly bears in Alaska. Treadwell truely believed to be a kindred spirit with the

Article: Several thousand snow geese have died after a snowstorm forced large flocks to take refuge in

The Final Project Will Compass Research
The final project will compass research from the two varying fields of media study: quantitative and
qualitative the quantitative, which has been analyzed for the purposes of the semester s first research
proposal. For much of the qualitative approach, I will utilize multiple feminist film theories in
conjunction with sex research in order to find a theoretical lens for The To Do List as well as identify
the lack of studies/work pertaining to female sexuality in media. This study will corporate the
ideologies of Laura Mulvey, Kathleen Rowe Karlyn, Mary Ann Doane, and a small range of other
research pertaining to feminism and its intersection with sexuality. Although The To Do List does not
entirely conform to the ideologies presented by Laura Mulvey in her piece, Visual Pleasure and the
Narrative Cinema, the theories argued can be utilized as a constructed lens, which is subverted by the
film s narrative. Similarly, as Mulvey states in her work: (i)t is said that analyzing pleasure, or beauty,

Smoke Bomb In The Culling
Smoke bomb is a projectile in The Culling. It breaks on effect, making a large cloud of smoke and
applying a temporary blindness to opponents. It is particularly powerful for fleeing and baiting
enemies into traps. It can also be very effective when paired with blades and Brutus by blinding an
opponent and backstabbing him. It is make with only a rock at a gas tank, and can be used to create
the gas grenade. Smoke bomb will be auto dropped if player have Angry Octopus perk, even if he
does not have smoke bomb in inventory. (Smoke Bomb, n.d.)
The first bomb were invented in China in the 13th century. The Chinese initially started using
gunpowder in hand held grenades and created smoke bombs. One of these bombs, the thunderbolt
ball, had black powder on the outside that detonated a bamboo center loaded with iron pieces. During
the Northern Song Dynasty (960 1126), Zeng Gongliang, a designing master, recorded three formulas

most common method used is potassium nitrate (oxidizer), sugar (fuel) and baking soda (reducing
reagent). The potassium nitrate and sugar react in an explosive reaction when lit. This reaction is
moderated by the baking soda so that the smoke bomb creates smoke for a longer period of time rather
than just burning out. During the combustion of the smoke bomb, the sugar will be oxidized to carbon
dioxide and water. The nitrogen in the potassium nitrate will be reduced to nitrogen gas. The
potassium will end up as potassium carbonate (the carbon coming from the CO2 from the sugar).

Essay on The Water Shortage in Australia
The Water Shortage in Australia First of all it is necessary to define what the term water shortage
means. For some people, it means having to constantly traverse long distances just to reach a source of
fresh water and to collect it. For others, water shortage means to content themselves with water only
for a part of day. And finally, there are some regions in which people suffer from droughts that lead to
a great amount of deaths. Therefore, in modern world problem with deficiency in fresh water has
become burning question, which needed immediate solution. According to Peter Rogers, it is not right
to consider that providing drinking water is problem that affects only developing nations with dense
population. It is easy to see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In support of this data she says that our society is moving rapidly into urban areas, and, as a result, we
re experiencing more and more water shortage problems . (Clarke, 2013) As already mentioned,
another problem, which has considerable influence on this situation, is climate change. It is generally
known, that climate is closely related with local rainfall and water availability. Peter Rogers claims
that surveys, which investigate the effects of climate change on water availability by 2025 display that
it will bring scarcity to loads of places. It is expected that climate change will exacerbate aridity and
reduce supply in many regions, which lead to droughts. (Rogers, 2008) It came to the Mighty Murray ,
one of the Australia s major river, is on the verge of collapse: in some places, children can jump over
it. (Water Use, 2011) One more reason for existing situation is irrational waste of water. If we want to
find an adequate solution to this problem, we must try to define how much freshwater each person
requires and what factors impede supply and increase demand. Malin Falkenmark estimates that each
person in the world needs approximately 1,000 cubic meters of freshwater per year. This number
includes water for drinking, growing food, hygiene and sanitation (Rogers, 2008). One of the possible

The Spread And Continued Reproduction Of The Northern...
The Problem Domain
The spread and continued reproduction of the Northern Snakehead in the Potomac river has been and
will continue to be a threat to the integrity of the local ecosystem. The Northern Snakehead is causing
a disturbance in the local ecosystem. These fish need to either be removed from the ecosystem or their
spread halted. Since their discovery in Crofton, Maryland, drastic measures have been taken in the
past to rapidly eradicate this species regardless of lasting effects. Most of the previous solutions
include dumping large quantities of poison, draining bodies of water, and encouraging fishing. In
many cases this has caused bodies of water to be unuseable for extended periods of time. It is for these
reasons we would like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this, Rayner Creese suggest removing native fish, draining when possible, and clearing
vegetation, to ensure maximum effectiveness. They also suggest ensuring that there is sufficient
poison such that the final amount in the water is enough to kill the fish [1].
The diminishing amounts of poison in the local waterway, by the river flowing, is something that must
be carefully considered. The article is promising in that it suggests that the poison flowing down river
will be in a low enough concentration so as to not cause much harm. This also suggests that a
controlled, continuous release will need to occur to maintain a lethal amount of poison on the targeted
portion of the river.

Domestic And International Policy Formulation Essay
At the core of both domestic and international policy formulation is the underlying issue of the
financial enrichment of the state structure and the individual. It is undeniable that significant
transformation of global economic norms has occurred since the advent of the neoliberal age in the
mid 1970s, and the subsequent promotion of government non intervention, deregulation and trade
liberalisation. New Zealand s is no exception to this trend, and our transition from British colony to
independent constitutional monarchy with a unique set of values, ideologies and national identity has
paved the way for our nation to branch out into the newly expanded global market. Indeed, the
development of New Zealand s domestic economy and trade policy has undergone a seismic shift
which has drastically altered our national patterns of trade since 1929. While export trade to the East is
still in its infancy, it is becoming increasingly clear that there is a growing demand in the East for New
Zealand agricultural products such as wool, meat, and dairy products. This essay aims to use the
analysis provided by McNair in his article New Zealand s Trade with the East as a comparative tool to
describe the transition of the Eastern global region from one of New Zealand s least influential
markets, to one of its greatest. Furthermore, it aims to examine which economic theory best explains
this increase in instances of trade over time, namely that of the Product Cycle Theory. As such, the

Assess the argument that is neither possible nor desirable to use experiments in social research
Experiments are a scientific procedure which is used to test a hypothesis. There are two different types
of experiments which are available to the researcher, these are laboratory and field.
In laboratory experiments all variables are under the control of the researcher, the researcher will
obtain their results from taking two groups which are identical. One group will be the control group
and the other will be the experimental group. The researcher will then alter the independent variable in
the experimental group to see if the variable that the researcher is investigating changes in any way

This therefore, makes laboratory experiments appear to be not possible to conduct in regards to social
research.
Additionally, laboratory experiments in social research can cause the Hawthorne effect which can
reduce the validity of the research and also make them seem undesirable. The Hawthorne effect is
when the presence of a researcher changes the behaviour of the group that is being studied. The
participants are not showing their true behaviour and one reason why they may be altering their
behaviour when in the presence of a researcher is because they think that they have guessed what the
researcher is studying and therefore wants to help them with their research by acting in the way that
they think the researcher wants to see. Their assumptions though are not always correct.
Field experiments are those conducted in the real world and under normal social conditions, but
following a similar procedure to the laboratory experiments. Participants in this experiment do not
normally know that they are being studied in an experiment; this therefore eradicates the Hawthorne
effect, but causes another undesirable outcome as it causes a problem with getting consent.
Interpretivists are typically interested in using field experiments as they want to know how meanings
and labels can get attached to different people and then how others then view them.

Today, nepotism is defined as favoritism towards kin. More narrowly, nepotism has come to mean
hiring a relative, regardless of their qualifications and competence. Usually accusations of nepotism
are followed by allegations of ethical misconduct, manipulation and unlawful interference. But in
order to fully understand and appreciate the legacy of nepotism, one must look no further than their
local barbershop, bakery, or church. Each has been, and continues to be, influenced by the aiding
hands of nepotism. From the mom and pop businesses to nearly half of the Fortune 500 companies, all
have benefited from what Bellow has called New Nepotism (7). New Nepotism, or postmodern
nepotism, differs from the old by a pragmatic approach to kinship, paired with a strong emphasis on
warrant and accomplishment: New nepotism [combines] the privileges of birth with the iron rule of
merit (Bellow 15). Heredity will get you in the door but cannot keep you from getting pushed back
out. In short, New Nepotism is an effective and valuable practice in society because it promotes and
upholds the principles of kinship and human community. This form of fellowship can be found not
only in our cultural and societal texts but also within our biological and instinctual drives. Nepotism,
though, is not only confined to

A Study On Genetic Programming
Genetic Programming GP is an evolutionary computing method that uses the principle of Darwinian
natural selection in order to create computer programs to solve a problem. Koza introduced GP (1992)
as a branch of genetic algorithm. GP covers a high level of diversity by breeding random different
computer program as the population. The programs are structured like trees containing functions and
terminals. A function set and a terminal set should be defined as the sources of functions and
terminals. If they are rich enough, tree structures are able to reach any complexity. The function set,
for example, can be built of arithmetic operation (+, −, ×, or ÷), Boolean logic functions (AND, OR,
NOT, etc), mathematical functions (sin, cos, log), conditional functions (IF, THEN, ELSE), or any
other functions. The terminal set can be included of variables, numerical constants, functions with no
argument, etc. Random functions and terminals form a treelike structure program. Branches that
contain functions and terminals are connected to the root point. A typical example of GP tree is shown
in (FIG) Defining terminal and function sets actually determine the search space. GP starts a blind
search for solution by creating random initial population within the search area. GP measure the
fitness of each individual and the ones with better fitness are chosen for building the next generation
by mutation, cross over or direct reproduction [1]. During the reproduction, some of the population

Abstract Doing heavy sport such as run marathon or exercise in the gym can produce much sweat.
Produce too much sweat could have a significant loss of fluid and electrolytes in the body such as
potassium and calcium. This can cause symptoms from fatigue and reduction in exercise performance
to more serious conditions such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke (Leong, 2007). Drinking water after
exercise helps to restore water balance in the body. Drinking sport drink, which contain sugar and

Similarities Between Tom Robinson And Scottsboro Trial
Connections between the Scottsboro Trial and Tom Robinson
Did you ever wonder who the Scottsboro Boys were? What happen to Tom Robinson? How they
could manage the racisms? How it felt to be arrested for something you didn t do? In To Kill A
Mocking Bird, Tom Robinson was arrested for a crime he never committed. In addition, that time
period there were many racism incidents that occurred. In many ways, the Scottsboro Boys and Tom
Robinson were alike, but also different. In To kill A Mocking Bird, by Harper Lee, Tom Robinson s
Trial connects to the Scottsboro Trials because they both were accused of a crime against raping a
white woman. The Scottsboro Trials started because of a fight between the black and white people in
the Southern Railroad s Chattanooga to Memphis route. In 1931, a fight broke out between a group of
black kids and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The white kids lost the fight and then wanted revenge. To get revenge, they said that the black boys
had raped two white girls ( Scottsboro, Trial). The fight terminated after they had passed the Alabama
border, when the white teenagers stepped on the hand of a black boy. As part of this revenge, they
went to the station master in Stevenson with the lies that they were attacked by a gang of black
teenagers who also raped two white girls. On March 31st, The Scottsboro Boys who were around 12
21 years old, got convicted of rape. The black boys were taken to a jail in Scottsboro, Alabama, hence
the name Scottsboro Boys. The arrest of the nine was the beginning of repeated trials, convictions,
appeals, and more trials over the next six years ( Scottsboro, Trial). In other words, this means the
Scottsboro black boys were guilty and taken to jail. People said they are anti social, they are bestial,
and they are unbelievably stupid.

Are tall buildings necessary for London to remain a competitive world city?
On February 10, 2004 mayor of London Ken Livingstone introduced the London Plan, the first
proactive strategy in over thirty years to deal specifically with the planning and development of
London. Since an increase in London s population by 800,000 is expected by the year 2020 , the
mayor has suggested the construction of high rise buildings as the method most likely to enable
London to grow in a controlled and steady manner and maintain its status as a world city. A key part of
the plan, the mayor s proposal for high density towers throughout the city, has heightened the debate
between urban planners and heritage groups as to whether the construction of tall ... Show more

Paul s cathedral . Claims such as these have held together London s existing developmental plan, the
Views Policy, which is for the large part unorganized and reactive; the plan dictates where tall
buildings should not be placed rather than where they could best be placed, which has resulted in
London s fragmented and uneven skyline . Thus far, the plan has served these groups well and they
have effectively prevented the construction of tall buildings that could potentially obstruct views of
London landmarks.
In place of tall, high density towers, suggestions have been made by some heritage groups for the
construction of a greater number of smaller and more compact high density buildings. Even though
smaller buildings would help to preserve the views of London s major landmarks, they would not be
built in the best interest of the city. Since there is a lack of available land in the city and low rise, high
density complexes require more land than tall, high density towers, the only way to construct these
developments would be to expand outward. An outward expansion would not only be expensive,
requiring a development of infrastructure in those areas strong enough to support new businesses, but
almost entirely impractical due to London s poor transport system. Even though half a million London
workers live in the suburbs and depend on the radial rail system that links them to the center of the
city, the system as a whole is expensive, heavily congested and wasteful; it

Panopticon Research Paper
How does the panopticon function to create self disciplining and docile subjects? Note one way in
which this social design works to create self policing subjects and one instance in which it fails. The
system is designed to over see the many and be supervised by the few. Originally designed for prisons
the concept was socially adopted and used often. Schools use the system of panopticon function to
over see the many children, just like a hospital, factories and prisons which all function and look
smiler. Each institute classify the role of worker, pupils, prisoners and patients making them all
conform to a norm. Each has a system set in place that subjects understand the rules of the institute
and must conform to them which creates self policing. In school like other institute their is a dress
code which dictated what I could not wear. Based on what I could not wear I found my self making
purchase for garments based on the rules of the institute. For example shoulders had to be cover in
school which reflected the dictatorship of my garment purchase of no spaghetti strapped items. ...

W.I. Thomas, however, very famously stated,
Whatever is perceived as real is real in its consequences. Explain the individualistic nature of this
statement in light of a community based theory. If exposure dose not occur then knowledge is not

The community is responsible for what the child understands as reality. Recently a childhood book
The Giver has been turned into a motion picture which shows the consequence results of perception as
real from panopticon. When present what is real and only shown what is real the consequences of
controls established thru panopticon function becomes over sensitive and chaos.

Bad Thermocouple
It can be really unpleasant to get into the shower and realize that your water heater is no longer
producing hot water. Hot water is essential to a pleasant shower and is essential for keeping things
clean and sanitary in your home. A bad thermocouple is one of the more common reasons for a gas
water heater to stop producing hot water. Check For A Pilot Light The first thing you need to do is
check and see if the pilot light on your gas water heater is lit. The pilot light is located near the bottom
of your water heater. You should literally see a flame if the pilot light on your gas water heater is
working properly. If the pilot light is not lit, and you can t relight it following the steps on your water
heater, you are not going to get any hot water. A bad ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a sensor that provides information to the gas valve on your gas water heater. It tells the gas valve
when and if it should release gas. It also tells it how much gas to release. The thermocouple is attached
directly to the gas valve on one end, and the other end is set up to literally feel the heat from the pilot
light. This allows the thermocouple to determine who much heat is being produced and how much gas
needs to be let out. Replacing The Thermocouple It is easy to replace a thermocouple. First, you are
going to want to turn off the gas to your water heater. You should never work on your gas water heater
when gas is running to it. Take off the cover that goes over the burner compartment. Then take apart
the gas tubes that are attached to the burner assembly. All you need to do now is replace the
thermocouple on the burner unit, but it back in place, turn the gas back on and see if you can get the
pilot light to work again. The thermocouple basically just needs to be pulled off and the new one
inserted in its place. If this doesn t fix your hot water issues, you may want to bring in a water repair
expert to help you fix your gas water

toxic chemicals which are harmful to human life. Dibutyl phthalate is a frequent chemical found in
many nail enamels and is part of what is called the toxic trio. This term refers to the three most
harmful chemicals found in many popular nail polish brands today. These toxic substances are toluene,
formaldehyde (methanal) and DBP (dibutyl phthalate). This article addresses the dangers of dibutyl
phthalate. What is DBP (Dibutyl Phthalate)? DBP is short for dibutyl phthalate. This substance is a

Make sure that your beauty products, including nail enamels, do not contain this toxic chemical. If you
are studying the ingredients list on your nail enamels, beware of this chemical being masked under
another name. Synonyms for dibutyl phthalate are: Di n butyl phthalate, Butyl phthalate, DBP, Elaol, n
Butyl phthalate, 1,2 Benzenedicarboxylic acid dibutyl ester, o Benzenedicarboxylic acid dibutyl ester
and Palatinol C. (synonyms as listed on Wikipedia.com). Natural Alternatives You can buy natural nail
polish without the use of this harmful chemical. In fact, you can buy some natural nail polish products
that are completely free of the toxic trio (DBP, formaldehyde and toluene), you simply have to do your
research and look around for healthier brands. Looking in stores at ingredient labels can be frustrating,
so you might be more inclined to do your research online for more natural nail polish brands. These
healthier alternatives are generally water based rather than chemical based, so they are better for your
body and will minimize your risk of developing chemically induced cancers and other

Essay about The Hobbit by JRR Tolkein
THE HOBBIT
BY J.R.R. TOLKIEN
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is a story of adventure and danger, and it is a prime example of a
romantic plot and fantasy genre. What makes this story such a great example of a romantic plot? One,
the unlikely hero, Mr. Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit that is dragged on an adventure he doesn t wish to
take. Second, there is a great quest with a reward at its end. Third the great teacher figure, Gandalf is a
wizard that helps Bilbo to become the great hero he is destined to be. And lastly the dragon figure, in
this story the dragon figure, happened to be a dragon but there are also many miniature dragon figures

He failed but you get a glimpse of the hero he is to become.
The quest begins when the group meets at the Green Dragon Inn. From there they venture into the
Lone lands. As heavy rains begin to fall, Bilbo notices that Gandalf is missing. This is something that
is later on considered to be normal because Gandalf comes and goes throughout the duration of the
trip. All through the quest Bilbo ends up saving the party from many dangerous situations. This is
something that at first Bilbo finds hard to believe because he has very low self esteem. The group
always seems to find themselves in worse, and worse problems, but they always overcome these
problems, with the help of Bilbo and some times Gandalf. Some of these problems include: getting
caught by trolls, getting captured by goblins, being attacked by large wolves called Wargs, one of the
dwarves falls into a coma from touching black water in the Mirkwood Forest, nearly dying of
starvation, being captured by large spiders and being captured by wood elves. Although this is all very
good action, the real action begins when the party finally reaches their destination Lonely Mountain
(home of Smaug).
On Lonely Mountain, in order to sneak into Smaug s lair, Bilbo puts on his magic ring, which turns
him invisible. He talks to the dragon for a while and gets the dragon to show him the under side of his
stomach. Bilbo manages to get close enough to see the dragon s weakness, which is a missing scale in
his chest. Smaug gets

  • 2. Analysis Of Miss Peregrine s Home For Peculiar Children By... Society often creates an unspoken set of standards on what defines normal . Then, we imprint these ideals into the brains of children and they live their lives conforming and never thriving. Tim Burton, an advocate for individuality, uses his films to break these standards. Burton incorporates Misfit protagonists and Motherly/Fatherly figures in Alice in Wonderland and Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children to display that young people truly find themselves when they deviate from the path society chose for them. Burton often integrates misfit protagonists who, throughout the movie, find themselves. For instance, in the film Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children, Jake, a young man struggling to find himself, discovers his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is in Wonderland that Alice discovers her true path of slaying the Jabberwocky. Alice is looked down upon for her whimsical thinking and wacky comments in a society that strives for prim and proper. Luckily, for Alice, Wonderland shares her whimsical and wacky ways. Alice is not only accepted; she is cherished for she is the chosen one. She is no longer a misfit. Just like Jake, she finds her path by disregarding the one already chosen for them but that would not have happened without the help of Motherly/Fatherly figures. Burton frequently uses Motherly/Fatherly Figures to help push the main character towards reaching their full potential. For example, in the film Alice in Wonderland, Mad Hatter, a middle aged man going through a mental break, guides Alice as she navigates her way through Wonderland. High key lighting and medium shots help to create a halo effect on him, for he is a light in the darkness. In the tea party scene, there are many dark colors and shadows, but not on the Hatter to show the contrast between him and the setting. Hatter is very protective of Alice just as a father would be of his daughter. He has watched her mature. Hatter also lost his family tragically, which leads him to crave the love and affection of family. Alice fills this void for Hatter. Likewise, Alice lost her father and is looking for someone who understands her. They complete one another. Furthermore, in the film Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar ... • 3. What Is The Difference Between Romeo And Juliet 1968 Play For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo. William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare early in his career about two young star crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. It was among Shakespeare s most popular plays during his lifetime and along with Hamlet, is one of his most frequently performed plays. The 1968 film version of Romeo and Juliet is a British Italian romance film based on the tragic play by William Shakespeare. The film was directed and co written by Franco Zeffirelli, and starred Olivia Hussey as Juliet Capulet, and Leonard Whiting as Romeo Montague. The film of 1968 is by far the best and most adapted version of the play, and most popular version as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This version was the first to use actors who were close to the age of the characters from the original play. Not only were the actors age very accurate, their portrayal of the characters were so believable because the actors playing Romeo and Juliet actually fell in love in the making of the film. All of the actors of the film played their characters very well and made them come to life. Olivia and Leonard told the story of Romeo and Juliet very accurately not only through their lines but with their body language. Viewers can really feel the emotional connection between the two. All the relationships between characters was spot on, my favorite being Lord Capulet and Paris. Although the acting throughout the film was very good, some scenes weren t as good as the others. The worst scenes would have to be the deaths of Mercutio and Tybalt. Those two death scenes were very unbelievable and unrealistic and didn t give viewers the burden of emotion as ... Living Off The Grid Summary In his book, Living Off the Grid:A Simple Guide to Creating and Maintaining a Self Reliant Supply of Energy, Water, Shelter and More (2008) Dave Black lists the following eight reasons many people are choosing to go off grid in America today: There is no grid available, to minimize environmental impact of the grid and leave a smaller carbon footprint, to avoid utility costs, saving money by lowering bills, emergency insurance, entertainment of an intelligent mind, reducing use of fossil fuels, and public image. He goes on to explain that whatever reason or reasons a person may choose to go off grid there is a long list of realities that one must face in relation to such an undertaking. There are several ways to build the walls and floor so that heat is stored in the day and released at night. Night and day temperatures, as well as seasonal angles of the sun are things to think about in terms of location if you plan to build a home that utilizes solar energy, such as an earthship. Dave Black states An east west axis (90 degrees to true south) allows the longer side of the structure to be exposed to the sun. That s where the big windows should be. North and east facing windows can lose a lot of heat in the winter, and west facing glass can cause overheating in summer, so they should be few and small.(Use overhangs over the windows to protect the interior from too much summer sun.......) . Earthships are also an environmentally friendly model because of the fact that they can be made from recycled materials such as tires, cans, beams made from recycled trash, etc. Walls made of stacked tires filled with cans serve to store and release heat when needed. This fact also makes it a viable option for a low budget home. Since most, or all, of an earthship can be built with what is essentially trash, most of your building materials can be found cheap or free, provided you have access to a road system. Genetic Testing or Genetic Screening Genetic testing, also known as screening, is a rapidly advancing new scientific field that can potentially revolutionize not only the world of medicine, but many aspects of our lives. Genetic screening is the sequencing of human DNA in order to discover genetic differences, anomalies, or mutations that may prove pathological. As genetic screening becomes more advanced and easily accessible, it presents society with difficult questions that must be asked about the boundaries of science and to what degree we are allowed to tamper with the human genome. To better understand the potential impact of genetic screening on our society, we must examine the potential benefits in comparison to the possible negative impact it may cause. With this ... There are many reasons to support further research into genetic screening but unfortunately such a complicated and controversial field also brings up ethical, legal and social issues that need to be addressed. One of the greatest issues surrounding genetic screening is one of privacy and potential discrimination. Some people fear that a predictive test that shows someone is at higher risk of developing a particular condition can be used against said person. Employers could become interested in knowing the probabilities of their workers developing chronic conditions, which might lead to hiring discrimination. Genetic predispositions towards certain diseases could also be used to deny health insurance to some individuals. This may seem unlikely but it is an issue that definitely warrants concern. Brynne Stainsby s father was diagnosed with the gene that causes degenerative brain disorder, meaning she had one in two odds of developing Huntington s disease. When preparing to start her own chiropractic practice she learned that it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get covered if she possesses this same gene. Simply coming from a family that was predisposed to Huntington s disease was enough to disqualify her from life or disability insurance. Many people find it hard to believe that such discrimination could occur in a country as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Fdr s Economic Reform From the early to mid 20th century, the U.S. underwent severe economic changes due to the internal problems. A system of laissez faire does not protect the people in the most damaging recession, the Great Depression. A shift from Hoover to FDR, leads to reform in the New Deal. Later in World War II, the U.S. will isolate itself to focus on the internal economy. The changes in the economy reflected back into the world and into domestic policy. Internally, reform and relief will bring back the nation and the focus of internal economy would create global problems. The U.S. s economic policy shaped the nation as a welfare state from FDR s New Deal and proved to be a world power from the causes and post war effects of World War II . The Great Depression ... The Works Progress Administration would provide temporary jobs and the the Emergency Banking Relief Act would establish the new American banking system. These are only a few of the alphabet agencies from the new deal. As the citizens became reliant on federal aid, FDR set the government as a welfare government, helping the people out of their economic crises. Along with the New Deal, Americans are also practicing FDR s policy of isolationism. This again establishes U.S. s role of a world power. The U.S. s inability to convene in world affairs leads to World War II. For example, the U.S. ignores the Spanish Civil War in which fascist Francisco Franco wins with help from Nazi Germany. Then, the U.S. creates the Neutrality Acts, which prevents Britain and France from receiving war materials and aid as they did in World War I. These barriers result in the expansion of Nazi Germany and the fall of France. The U.S will break their isolationist policy and join the Allies after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. From their position of a world power, the U.S. would be placed on the Security Council in the U.N.. As a world power, they will also provide monetary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We wrote down our data to prove that speed, height, and mass affect kinetic energy. This is the lab data explained. In our first lab, we had to drop different masses of cans from a height onto a 3cm clay ball and see how much it got squished. Our data consisted of dropping a 418g, 227g, 624g, and 425g can from 30cm to a clay ball. For example, with a 418g can, the ball was squished down to 2.7cm while a 227g can squished a ball down to 2.9cm. This shows that the larger mass of the can, the more the clay got squashed, so the more mass the object is, the more kinetic energy takes place. In our second ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The analyses of EROI results for different fuel types especially EROI results of hydropower plants are also presented. The essential features of storage type hydropower plants also have been generally discussed as an important part of EROI s Energy input calculation. Special attention will now be given to the hydropower resources in Myanmar in Chapter 3 and the detailed discussion of storage type hydropower plants will be addressed. Chapter 3 Hydropower Resources in Myanmar 3.1 Introduction Myanmar has tremendous hydropower potential; however the majority of this potential has remained undeveloped due to the economic and political disturbances. The technical feasible potential from the major rivers and other potential water resources support the country as one of the renewable energy rich countries amongst its neighbouring, energy demand countries especially China, and India. Due to the increase in electricity demand of the domestic and cross border regional energy trade issues (Kattelus et al., 2015), the necessities for the extraction of the large hydropower resources should be fulfilled from the geopolitical perspective. • 13. Analysis Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birth Mark Nathaniel Hawthorne was seen as a major figure in the American romantic movement (Constantakis 1). Additionally, Hawthorne created allegories of the dark, irredeemable human condition, a point of view most likely traceable to the author s New England Puritan roots (Constantakis 2). Concerning Hawthorne s writing style, he often focused on concrete particulars his tales elevate into symbols, and his works speak from and to the unconscious that people dream their way into every night and set aside when they rise from their beds to act (Bunge 4). This short story was first published in March 1943 in Pioneer...under Hawthorne s own name (Newman 29). The beginning of the short story The Birth Mark relates the union of Aylmer, a scientist who was highly distinguished within his community but personally unsatisfied due to his severe perfectionism, with his wife, Georgiana. Unfortunately for their relationship, Aylmer obsessed over the possible removal of his wife s hand shaped birth mark, which he saw as the sole thing that stood between him and a perfect wife, so Georgiana agreed to have the mark removed. Soon afterwards, Aylmer furnished a lavishly decorated space for Georgiana to stay in while he developed an elixir in his laboratory to remove her mark; he also attempted to delight her with several of his other scientific creations, but they did not always have the intended effect. • 16. That Evening Sun By William Faulkner And The Poem Analysis In both the short story That Evening Sun by William Faulkner and the poem Poem about My Rights by June Jordan, racism against blacks is criticized through bringing its evils to the surface by these literary works. Despite using different literary mediums to convey their messages, both works reveal to their respective audiences that racism against blacks leads to feelings of inferiority and helplessness in blacks, a collective fear of the wrath of the white man in blacks, and an indifference in the general white population towards the fears of blacks. The idea that racism makes blacks feel as if they are powerless in the domain of whites is something that can be seen within That Evening Sun. In the story, Nancy lives in fear of her husband Jesus, as she believes that he has returned and plans to kill her. Nancy is most affected by her fears when she is not around the white Compson family. This is because Nancy is aware that her husband, being a black man, wouldn t dare commit harm against Nancy when she is around whites, because he feels powerless around them. This is why Nancy attempts to avoid her and Jesus s confrontation by sleeping in the Compson household and also by taking the Compson children to her house. Due to the racism that exists in the time period the story is set in, Jesus cannot do what he wants to do to Nancy, because being in the dominion of white people essentially takes away his force. He knows that if he tries to harm Nancy, but in the process ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Egyptians treated felines as almost gods in their culture because, after domestication, they killed vermin which helped crops grow. That praise evolved into worship, and gave felines new meaning among human beings. In many ways humans change animals to suit their purposes in literature and as to allow us to more finely tune our imagination to the lives of animals. Human beings don t have any idea what it s like anymore to be one with their natural surroundings which is why we focus so intently on relating to the lives of animals. The more we try to become kindred with animals, the more definitive the relationship between humans and animals becomes. Our relationship is almost anything we decide it to be on our end of it, but as for the animals they seem to fairly indifferent. We can say whatever we want to say about our own relationships with animals, but they re not going to ignore their own primal instincts no matter what we say. This is demonstrated through Timothy Treadwell s experience with the grizzly bears in Alaska. Treadwell truely believed to be a kindred spirit with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This study will corporate the ideologies of Laura Mulvey, Kathleen Rowe Karlyn, Mary Ann Doane, and a small range of other research pertaining to feminism and its intersection with sexuality. Similarly, as Mulvey states in her work: (i)t is said that analyzing pleasure, or beauty, destroys it. That is the intention of this article (Mulvey, 839), much in the same way is my intention for such a case study to work at diminishing the taboo constraints placed on female sexuality. And finally, there are some regions in which people suffer from droughts that lead to a great amount of deaths. (Clarke, 2013) As already mentioned, another problem, which has considerable influence on this situation, is climate change. It is generally known, that climate is closely related with local rainfall and water availability. Peter Rogers claims that surveys, which investigate the effects of climate change on water availability by 2025 display that it will bring scarcity to loads of places. It is expected that climate change will exacerbate aridity and reduce supply in many regions, which lead to droughts. Domestic And International Policy Formulation Essay At the core of both domestic and international policy formulation is the underlying issue of the financial enrichment of the state structure and the individual. It is undeniable that significant transformation of global economic norms has occurred since the advent of the neoliberal age in the mid 1970s, and the subsequent promotion of government non intervention, deregulation and trade liberalisation. New Zealand s is no exception to this trend, and our transition from British colony to independent constitutional monarchy with a unique set of values, ideologies and national identity has paved the way for our nation to branch out into the newly expanded global market. Indeed, the development of New Zealand s domestic economy and trade policy has undergone a seismic shift which has drastically altered our national patterns of trade since 1929. While export trade to the East is still in its infancy, it is becoming increasingly clear that there is a growing demand in the East for New Zealand agricultural products such as wool, meat, and dairy products. This essay aims to use the analysis provided by McNair in his article New Zealand s Trade with the East as a comparative tool to describe the transition of the Eastern global region from one of New Zealand s least influential markets, to one of its greatest. Furthermore, it aims to examine which economic theory best explains this increase in instances of trade over time, namely that of the Product Cycle Theory. As such, the ... A Study On Genetic Programming Genetic Programming GP is an evolutionary computing method that uses the principle of Darwinian natural selection in order to create computer programs to solve a problem. Koza introduced GP (1992) as a branch of genetic algorithm. GP covers a high level of diversity by breeding random different computer program as the population. The programs are structured like trees containing functions and terminals. A function set and a terminal set should be defined as the sources of functions and terminals. If they are rich enough, tree structures are able to reach any complexity. The function set, for example, can be built of arithmetic operation (+, −, ×, or ÷), Boolean logic functions (AND, OR, NOT, etc), mathematical functions (sin, cos, log), conditional functions (IF, THEN, ELSE), or any other functions. The terminal set can be included of variables, numerical constants, functions with no argument, etc. Random functions and terminals form a treelike structure program. Branches that contain functions and terminals are connected to the root point. A typical example of GP tree is shown in (FIG) Defining terminal and function sets actually determine the search space. On February 10, 2004 mayor of London Ken Livingstone introduced the London Plan, the first proactive strategy in over thirty years to deal specifically with the planning and development of London. Since an increase in London s population by 800,000 is expected by the year 2020 , the mayor has suggested the construction of high rise buildings as the method most likely to enable London to grow in a controlled and steady manner and maintain its status as a world city. Claims such as these have held together London s existing developmental plan, the Views Policy, which is for the large part unorganized and reactive; the plan dictates where tall buildings should not be placed rather than where they could best be placed, which has resulted in London s fragmented and uneven skyline . Thus far, the plan has served these groups well and they have effectively prevented the construction of tall buildings that could potentially obstruct views of London landmarks. In place of tall, high density towers, suggestions have been made by some heritage groups for the construction of a greater number of smaller and more compact high density buildings. Even though smaller buildings would help to preserve the views of London s major landmarks, they would not be built in the best interest of the city. Since there is a lack of available land in the city and low rise, high density complexes require more land than tall, high density towers, the only way to construct these developments would be to expand outward. An outward expansion would not only be expensive, requiring a development of infrastructure in those areas strong enough to support new businesses, but almost entirely impractical due to London s poor transport system. Even though half a million London workers live in the suburbs and depend on the radial rail system that links them to the center of the city, the system as a whole is expensive, heavily congested and wasteful; it ...
