Mary Oliver Rhetorical Analysis Essay
The excerpt from Mary Oliver s Building the House serves as a way to describe what happens during the
poetry writing process. Although Mary Oliver believes that writing poetry is hard work, she uses extended
metaphor, juxtaposition, and point of view to describe the writing process in comparison of building a
house, which shows that Oliver sees poetry as something that involves mental labor which is a different
challenge than physical labor . Through the use of extended metaphor, Mary Oliver is allowed to express
both the mentality and physicality when writing a poem, which is able to show the differences and
similarities by comparison. The extended metaphor works to compare the process of writing poetry to that
of building a house, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She uses this juxtaposition is used effectively by Mary Oliver to show how poetry writing also has it s
hardships and challenges and also shows that there are differences between different types of labor involved
with different types of work. Furthermore, Mary Oliver s use of first person point of view allows her to
show how poetry writing is personal to her, and how it serves a specific type of challenge. Mary Oliver

Egypt And Greek Comparison Essay
The development of civilizations was the key factor in advancing society, advancements that disposed of
the idea of a hunter gather society. The ancient Egyptians and the Greeks are known for contributing the
most towards civilization. However, each possessed similar and different qualities that came together to
help shape our world today.
The Egyptian civilization was very fortunate in terms that their environment was very dependable unlike
Greece. The annual flooding of the Nile river renewed the soil and brought about fertile black soil that in
turn resulted in them being the richest agricultural region. Egyptians figured out that the land beyond the
river was inhabitable and the environment was not dependable. Realizing this they built their civilization
around the Nile river and used the flooding to their advantage. However, unlike the Egyptians who settled
around the river the Greeks built many cities upon mountain strongholds. For example, acropolis of Athens
is known for being the fortified palace on top of the mountain.
Like many early civilizations, both the Egyptians and Greeks had a social pyramid that didn t give much
freedom to the people. In Egypt, the Pharaoh his family were known as completely apart from everyone
else. There was the small majority of nobles who served priests and also the elite who were below the
pharaoh and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

However, each had their issues and developed different ideals and religious beliefs that helped to set them
apart from other civilizations. Aside from these differences, I would like to believe that they both are known
as civilizations who brought about change to the world. Whether good or bad these two civilizations had a
lasting effect that brought about many simple things we disregard

sickle cell disease (also known as sickle cell anemia), its causes and possible ways of treatment began when
one of my best friends died from this sickness. In the course of my research on the subject, I came across an

the article itself is not well written; it also seems to be somewhat improperly organized. The research
question was not formulated clearly, as well as variables, subjects, and the hypothesis. Therefore, it can be
difficult for the readers to interpret the processes and outcomes described in the article. As an amateur, I can
still say that the material in the article is disorganised, so it is sometimes hard to understand the flow of the
project s process. For example, the theoretic baseline was not explained explicitly, which made it more
difficult for me to understand what the article was all about in general. As a person seeking to understand
the sickle cell disease and Pica disorder in order to improve the quality of life in my society, I was a little
disappointed with this fact. Thus, I would suggest the authors to arrange and explain the ideas and concepts
mentioned in their research more fully. For example, I would accurately state whether the variables were
independent, dependent, or controlled. Apart from these small drawbacks, I liked the article; I believe that
the intentions of the authors were good, and that their study will contribute a lot to the healthcare systems of

Darfur Conflict Essay
March 23rd, 2013 The Darfur Conflict The government of Sudan, a country in Northeast Africa, is
committing a horrendous crime against humanity. Genocide is raging on in Western Sudan against poor,
helpless, innocent people. It is actually the ten year anniversary since the beginning of the Darfur conflict
and the genocide still continues on. There are over 1.4 million people who still do not have homes to come
back to, and the numbers stack higher every day. Bombings have not stopped, as there was one as recent as
February 2013. The Darfur conflict in the beginning was just a brewing disaster and it eventually led to the
horrendous genocides in the early 2000s due to early settlement disputes, climate change, and radical

From 1972 onwards, the government usually ran Darfur through officials brought in from other parts of
Sudan, mainly from Khartoum (Darfur: Origins). What Britain did basically doomed Non Arab Darfur to a
future as an underdeveloped colony of Sudan s Arab speaking Nile Valley heartland (Darfur: Origins).
Furthermore, another source of the problem began with the gradual change of the climate in Darfur.
Desertification, a process by which land becomes increasingly dry until almost no vegetation grows on it,
becomes a major problem for the Darfur people. Land for farming becomes scarce. Living on desert is
unsuitable for humans for obvious reasons: lack of food and, more importantly, lack of water. There is not
much suitable farm land, therefore the lack of fertile land caused the populations to compete with one
another for land on which they could survive (Xavier 18). Before desertification became a huge problem for
the Sudanese people, they lived in peace. Honestly, the hostility between Darfur s Arabs and Africans are
relatively new (Xavier 20). This shows how the competition for survival helped fuel the terrible genocide in
Darfur. In addition, political aspects have played a role in the roots of the Darfur conflict. The leader,
General Omar Hassan Ahmad al Bashir (who came to power in 1989), is a major source of the problem. Al

Paul Signac
Art is something that has been around since the existence of man. Nevertheless, the versatility that comes
with art makes every piece of art unique and incredible. With this uniqueness being very noticeable by
those who know art, many artists take this sense of uniqueness and create art in certain ways to make their
art personal. With thousands of different styles and mediums of art, artists have the world in their own
fingertips. In the past, many famous artists have set the stone for certain styles of art, and really allowed
them to expand for the world and the artists of this day to use, admire, and enjoy. Out of all the artists that
have come to be, I believe that Paul Signac made a huge contribution in the aspect of impressionism,
pointillism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Signac grew up, he planned on being an architect, but this was shut down for painting. The reason
behind this was the influence of an artist named Armand Guillaumin, who focused on Impressionism in his
art. The sight of the artwork from Guillaumin inspired Signac to become an artist, using Impressionism to
be later adapted in to his own style of neo impressionism and pointillism (The Editors of Encyclopædia
Britannica 2011). As soon as Signac knew he wanted to be a painter, he embarked on a journey around the
coasts of Europe, in which all the landscapes he painted were found while traveling (Cachin 1971). As his
artwork began to improve, his relationships with other artists grew as well. In 1884, Signac helped found
the Salon des Independants, where he met one of the biggest influences on his art, Georges Seurat (Cachin).
When the two met each other, it was an instant click between the two. Signac was very fond of the methods
Seurat showed in his work, and the theories behind his styles implemented in his work were uncanny in the
eyes of Signac who became a faithful supporter of Seurat almost immediately. Both Signac and Seurat were
very fond of impressionism and the art that came from it due to both being artists that used the same style.
Nevertheless, under the influences of other art, Signac decided that instead of using styles found in
impressionism such as short brushstrokes, he began to experiment with small dots of pure color to make art.
With this experimentation, Signac revolutionized the way that he painted from an impressionism artist, to a
newly created pointillism style (Cachin). In this new style of art, the points were small in size and distinct in
color. The reasoning behind this was that Signac understood that if the colors were not blended, the mind
would automatically be trigger to do the blending upon glace of the

Hieroglyphics Research Paper
There are seven hundred different symbols in hieroglyphics. In fact, the ancient egyptians didn t even use
punctuation to separate the end of sentences and words. They also didn t place spaces after each word like
we do in english. Another unique thing about the ancient egyptians was that they didn t use vowels when
translating or writing with hieroglyphics. Another scribe based off of hieroglyphics was known as hieratic
writing. Hieratic writing was a simplified version of hieroglyphics. Hieratic is almost like using
abbreviations like we do now while texting or writing quick notes to friends. It simplifies the complex
drawings of hieroglyphics. In this writing form it also uses a form of cursive. After the creation of hieratic

The Impact Of Federalism
Federalism can be said to be the defining feature of all forms of American politics. Even as a literary
characteristic feature, America was the first nation to adopt federalism as a concept. Federalism is a system
of government whereby political power is divided between a national government and other smaller
political constituents such as states (Platt, 2014). Federalism, although not mentioned exactly in the
constitution, was supposed to be a concept that addressed the errors of the confederation (Platt, 2014). It
was also supposed to be the lay the groundwork for what the future of American politics by defining the
type of government to be practiced. As it was expected to be, federalism has had an impact on the American
politics even in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example of this would be the election and in particular, the Electoral College. The system of the
Electoral College is one that portrays federalism i.e. share of power between state and national government.
The Constitution provides the framework of the system. Federal statutes stipulate aspects of the process and
give directions to states regarding the time of the election and certification of the electoral vote. Federal
statutes also give directions to Congress concerning the counting of the electoral vote, and they provide a
process for objections to the vote. Since each state is important because it has to conduct its own election at
the same time with other states, the laws of each state specify the time and place of the meeting of the
electors as well as other election provisions. Together, these two governments, together with the
constitution, create the Electoral College system (Edwin C. Kisiel, III, page 12 13). Since laws at both the
national as well as the state level govern the Electoral College, it can be said that its foundation is rooted in

James Moore Interview Essay
When having the privilege of conducting an interview with Lindsey Moore, she seemed like a very
intriguing person. When first walking into the room she had a warming smile, smelled of coconuts, long
luscious blonde hair and her hands were as soft as a tissue. Moore has accomplished many phenomenal
goals that she has set for herself. If someone had to describe Moore with a phrase, that phrase would be
hard worker. She emphasized on three key parts where she had to work hard and those key parts were,
practicing, WNBA and coaching. Without these parts she would not be where she is today or how she is
today. Moore has been a hard worker ever since she was little. She knew at a young age that her abilities
were far more superior to her classmates. She might not have been taller than them but she knew for a fact
that her hand eye coordination and agility were better than theirs, so she decided to capitalize on these
aspects of her game. Since Moore knew what she was better at she used her key aspects towards her

Essay on The Hypocrisy Of Diversity
Diversity . It s everywhere you look these days. When you switch on your TV set, you open up a

but what does it mean, what does it really mean? And what does the future hold for a racially diverse
America? Well.. let s look at the fine people who are pushing for the diversity line. Who s opening the
borders to hordes of illegal aliens in order to diversify the racial makeup of the United States and allowing

and if they were going to live here they were going to have to accommodate US. 60 years ago they didn t
care about these people because they had no reason to. There was no reason then and there is no reason
now, there is no possible benefit for us in bringing these people into our country; to feed them, to clothe
them, to house them, to educate them and then after that to find jobs for them. That s exactly what s
happening right now though; the first two, food and clothing are taken care of by welfare, housing is taken
care of by the huge housing projects you will find in any big city, and everybody knows the color of people
who tend to live in those. Education is taken care of by our integrated school system and by bussing poor
Black kids into well to do White schools just for the sake of diversity . And after all that, they are either
employed through the racist affirmative action programs, or they sit back and collect welfare off the
taxpayer for the rest of their lives while they find an equally diverse wife, and keep her spitting out kids like

The Great Mahele
In 1848, An event called the Mahele changed the traditional Hawaiian system of land tenure from
communal use to private ownership (Kameeleihiwa 3). Events in the past of Hawaii, like the Mahele of
1848, left a devastating mark in Hawaii s history; It helped eventually lead to the overthrow of the monarch
and still affects today s problems in Hawaii. To understand the native Hawaiian s perspective of the Mahele,
one must first learn the Hawaiian mentality. In Hawaiian culture it is believed that Wakea (sky father) and
Papahanaumoku (earth mother) are the parents of the Hawaiian islands. If anything the Hawaiian islands
belonged to Wakea and Papa. The islands, being born from an akua (God) was therefore an akua itself.

Essay On Centralized Law Enforcement
Over the years, the debate on whether the Department of Law Enforcement in U.S. should be centralized or
not continues to be a contentious issue. Both centralized and decentralized forms of administration have
their own advantages as well as disadvantages. The U.S. currently has a decentralized police administration
structure, which has received equal measure of admiration as well as criticism. As a member of Congress,
my staff assistant s proposal to nationalize law enforcement throughout the United States brings with it
meaningful insights which need to be analyzed before coming up with an informed conclusion. This essay

how different groups will perceive it.

Sociological Explanations For Gender Differences
Outline and Assess Sociological Explanations for Gender Differences in Crime Rates
Current statistics show that men commit 80% of all crime and women commit only 20%. However there are
arguments to suggest that the statistics highlight an under representation of female criminality, and there are
many sociological arguments to suggest that female criminals are treated more leniently. On the other hand,
some sociologists believe women are treated more harshly when they commit certain types of crime. This
essay aims to assess the reasons for gender differences in reported crime rates.
Official crime rates are measured by crimes reported and recorded by the police and criminal justice
system, and are collected by the Home Office. Frances Heidensohn (1975) believes that male criminality is
5 times higher than female criminality, which current data supports. However, Otto Pollak (1961) was the
first sociologist to argue that crime rates for female crime were inaccurate. He believed that women were
treated more leniently by the police and criminal justice system, which highlighted the under representation
of female criminality in the official statistics. He argued that women were more likely to commit crimes
such as petty theft, prostitution and criminal abortions, which were then likely to be treated more leniently.
Pollak s theories have been widely criticised and may not be relevant today; indeed he failed to take into
account the decriminalisation of abortion in many of the

Soccer, on the other hand, except for its halftime break, has no time outs and is constant run, run, run, back
and forth, relentlessly, with only a few seconds of relaxation when a goal is scored, and that happens two or
3 times in a normal game, sometimes never scoring in a game. The best that commercial television can hope
for is an injury timeout and that is only when a player is very seriously injured.
Another reason is Americans love their violence, and soccer doesn t have the violence that American
football and soccer have. There is some violence, yes, but Americans can t expect the the bone crushing hits
in football, and the knockout punch fights in hockey, game after game. In soccer, players are actually
singled out and warned with embarrassing yellow cards for acts of violence

Morality Of Homelessness
Homelessness not only affects politics, the economy, and social environments, it also heavily influences
morality. Should homelessness continue in its current state, the moral compass of humanity as a whole will
be thrown off. Caring for those around us who have experienced troubles should be something that is
actively sought to fix, not ignored. By ignoring the issue, we create an aura of indifference to, not just
human suffering, but suffering that we experience close to our homes. The continuing existence of
homelessness can be seen as a contradiction to the Building Blocks of Catholic Social Teaching, especially
The Principle of Solidarity, The Principle of the Common Good, and The Principle of Preferential

Neuromarketing
Within the skull lies the most complex organ known to mankind the human brain. With a mass of only 6
kilograms, the brain contains over 100 billion living cells and 1 million kilometers of interconnecting
fibers; but, exactly how does it function? Marketing and sales managers would love to know why
consumers are attracted to certain advertising, packaging and brands. Martin Lindstrom, author of
Buyology: Truth and Lies About Why We Buy, explains the marketing challenge, When we walk down an
aisle in a grocery store, our purchasing decisions are made in less than four seconds...there is no way we
can think about that in a complete way. Those decisions take place in the subconscious part of the brain
(2008).
The drive behind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It likes beginnings and endings and tends to drop the information in the middle. Therefore, placing the most
important context in the beginning and restating it at the end is a must to grab the consumer s old brain s
attention. The fifth stimulus is visual. The old brain is very visual; this may be because the optic nerve is
directly connected to it. About 70% of the body s sense receptors are in our eyes. To a large degree, we
understand our world mainly by looking at it...we have evolved to put our visual senses at the top of our
sensory hierarchies, and therefore, visual components tend to trump all others (Pradeep, 2010). The old
brain reacts to an object before your new brain physically recognizes the object. The last stimulus is
emotion. When consumers experience strong emotions like happiness, sadness, anger or joy, a flood of
emotions rushes into their brain and impact the synaptic connections between the neurons making them
faster and stronger. As a result, consumers will remember events better when they have experienced them
with strong emotions.
Analyzing Neuroimaging Techniques In order to measure the brain effectively, neuromarketers use the
latest technology that assess the brain s activity most accurately. Although there are apparently many
techniques that scientists propose, only a few have stood the test of time and are being used most widely.
The three techniques are Electroencephalogram (EEG), Functional

A Comparison Of Shooting An Elephant And Two Fisherman
The situations and the choices of the two men in the story Shooting An Elephant by George Orwell and Two
Fisherman by Morley Callaghan effects their choices that they have on their self perception. A common
similarity can define a man s choice. Both stories confront difficult choices and their responses to their
dilemma. To summarize the theme for both these stories can be that the need for acceptance in society can
prevent an individual from doing the right thing. This theme relates to both stories because in Shooting An
Elephant, Orwell compares the narrator as the character who is trying to prevent from shooing the elephant
while in Two Fisherman, Callaghan compares doesn t want to talk about the man but ends up having to
which makes himself feel guilty about himself. Both characters face their own problems creating dilemma
and making their own decisions based on their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Two Fisherman, Micheal is friends with Smithy who is a guy he went out rowing to hopefully bring luck
and catch some fish. But it turns out that the town people were enraged after the hanging of Thomas
Delaney that they started to abuse and throw pebbles and objects at Smithy. I wish they d go states that
Smithy just wants silent and that he does not want to be abused by these outraged town people. On the other
hand, Shooting an Elephant is related to when the narrator is pressured to not shoot the elephant even
though it is a better idea to put it out of its mystery. But as the population in this story summarizes, they
want it to be free and just let it do its own thing. The common results that both of these stories have is when
the society is peer pressuring the protagonist to make them make difficult decisions that are really hard to
decide. One bad move and now the protagonist could be the hated one in the

Hedge Funds History
Hedge funds originated in the late 1940s, and they have been causing problems in the US economy since
then. Due to the fact that hedge funds basically function on loopholes in American laws, it simply creates a
way for the rich to become richer and the poor to become poorer. An example of this is the way that hedge
funds are structured to avoid regulation by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the federal
regulator of securities markets (Investopedia) in the United States. Hedge funds are able to exempt
themselves from the Investment Company Act of 1940, an act put in place by the SEC that imposes limits
on the use of certain investment techniques, by having less than 100 investors (Fichtner 8) or making sure
that investors are

Similarities Between Orangutans And The Great Apes
Within the world of primates, the family Hominidae includes the primates known as the great apes. These
primates, are then broken down into two subfamilies. One subfamily contains the primates chimpanzees,
bonobos, gorillas and humans, while the other subfamily, Ponginae, only contains the species Pongo,
commonly known as the orangutan. Orangutans, although closely related to the other great apes, represent a
lot of extremes in biological parameters (Campbell, C. J., 2011). One of the most drastic extremes is that
orangutans are the largest primary arboreal mammal in the world. This is a result of special evolutionary
adaptations that allow these primates to mechanically function in an arboreal lifestyle. Unlike the other
great apes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This book included a large section of information on orangutans with observations about basic traits as well
as mechanical and social behaviors. It is interesting to note that the section also notes the various methods
these orangutans were being hunted, killed or used by its enemies. It concludes describing an old
misconception of how an orangutan s great strength and ferocity render them dangerous. We now know that
these animals are actually very rarely aggressive, but rather solitary social creatures. The common theme of
primates being dangerous and monsters can be across various historical writings. Orangutans, endemic now
only in the southeast rainforests of Asia, were once found throughout Asia (Campbell, C. J., 2011). Since
2001, there have only been two species of orangutan identified, the Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abeli) and
the Bornean Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) (Nater, A., et al. 2017). However, recent research, to be
published later this month, has identified a new third species of orangutan, Pongo tapanuliensis. This
species of orangutans, found south of Lake Toba, was once grouped with the Sumatran Orangutans,
however, recent genetic testing has identified them as a completely different species from those orangutans
found north of Lake Toba. Orangutans all face major issues in terms of numbers with all species marked as
either endangered or critically endangered due to hunting pressure and habitat destruction. The palm oil

Sympathy Figurative Language
Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants. The Caged Bird by Maya Angelou and
Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar are both poems about freedom. The authors use figurative language to
acknowledge the meaningful theme of freedom. Different points are mentioned in each poem, but relate in
some way. Adding on, Paul Laurence Dunbar used poetry to show negativity through the poem, Sympathy.
He does this by using imagery and figurative language. According to the poem it speaks, And the river
flows like a stream of glass (Dunbar 4). This statement is a simile that literally means that when the water
moves it is somewhat clear. A use of imagery in Dunbar s poem states, Till its blood is red on the cruel

Australian Film, Gallipoli, Shows the Willpower and Drive...
Gallipoli, as the title suggests, is a portrayal of the historical event in which thousands of Australian soldiers
went off to fight for their country. Peter Weir, the director of Gallipoli has not simply presented the facts
about the war, nor has he tried to relay the story of this time, instead he has attempted to convey the legend
of Gallipoli through the Australian s feelings towards the event using pre existing myths to portray this
tragedy of war. Gallipoli was directed by Peter Weir, an Australian film director. After playing the leading
role in the Australian New Wave cinema with his films such as Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Last Wave and
Gallipoli, Weir directed a diverse group of American and International films many on them major box office
hits including the Academy Award nominees. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallipoli_(1981_film) )

RELIGION
The three most important religious beliefs in China were Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism. These
people believed in many gods, making them polytheistic. Their gods were natural gods, river god, earth
god, rain god The most powerful was the sky god, T ien, the king of all gods. Confucianism isn t really a
religion; it is just the thoughts of this man and his disciples, concerned with the principles of good conduct,
practical knowledge, and proper social relationships. Confucianism is a philosophy. Although he is a very
important person in Chinese history, it still doesn t make it a religion, because he was never a god.
Confucius was born in 551BC, and died in 479 BC; he lived during the Zhou dynasty. His father was a
noble, but he died when Confucius was only a few years old. He grew as a poor person. When he was a
teenager, he became very interested in learning. In those days, only the high class people like nobles and
kings were allowed and education, so it was hard for him to get one. So he went to work for a nobleman,
and he learned much from him and he followed him everywhere, and that granted him a chance go to the
capital. He studied a lot, he probably became the most intelligent and studied man at the time. He became

Compare And Contrast Natural Vs Anthropogenic Climate Change
Compare and contrast natural versus anthropogenic climate changes. Include at least two (2) specific
examples of each.
Anthropogenic temperature change refers to the assembly of greenhouse gases emitted by human action. By
examining the polar ice cores, scientists are convinced that human action has inflated the proportion of
greenhouse gases within the atmosphere, that has skyrocketed over the past few hundred years. (Climate
Science Investigation, 2018)
The IPCC, Fourth Report discusses in 2007 has multiple lines of proof that confirms that the post industrial
rise in greenhouse gases doesn t stem from natural mechanisms. In other words, the climate changes are

She is independent, strong, intelligent, and proud. By being part of the modernist, young generation of the

completely male dominated profession in the 1950s, yet her family is not supportive of this fantasy
profession. In fact, Walter goes so far as to tell Beneatha if she is so crazy bout messing round with sick
people then she should go be a nurse like other women or just get married (Hansberry 1779). This is an
important quote because it shows how much agency a man has in a household while presenting the social

many choices her family considers as radical. She decides to grow into her heritage by changing her
straight, mutilated hair into a more traditional, natural afro (Hansberry 1789); this symbol works into the
movement of the time that Black is Beautiful. She also dances around in traditional African clothing,
becoming more aware and prideful of her own sense of culture. Beneatha also shocks her family by being

(Hansberry 1824). Once again,

My Philosophy And Rationale In The Classroom
Philosophy and Rationale The assertiveness is a clear affirmation that both teachers and students are to be
treated with respect (Purkey, 2004, p. 100). My philosophy within the classroom, is creating and
maintaining a sense of respect; a classroom where a mutual respect between myself and the students is seen
among all who enter the classroom environment. However, with this sense of mutual respect, students
should understand that if misbehavior does occur, all students will have a voice, but I have the ultimate
decision of choosing the route we take to ensure that this misbehavior does not occur again. I also want
students to be self aware; understanding that they are in control of their own lives and that I respect them
enough to let them make their own rational decisions. Another key component in my philosophy of the
classroom, is getting to know the students on a personal level. I want to know about their families, the
sports they play, the foods they like to eat, the friends they have, and/or the church they attend. Based on
personal experience, when a teacher takes the time to know you outside of the classroom, a great bond is
built. When the bond is built, a sense of trust in created between the teacher and student. I want my students
to trust me, respect me, but know that I believe in them to make decisions that are beneficial for themselves;
through this, I will respect my students, listen to them, and support them in the decisions they make. If we

Flood warnings must be provided with an adequate lead time for the public and the emergency services to
take actions to minimize flood damages.
Real time flood forecasting is an important and integral part of a flood warning service, and can help to
provide more accurate and timely warnings. Depending on catchment characteristics and catchment
response to rainfall, various types of flood forecasting models, including correlations, simple trigger flood
forecasting, and more sophisticated real time catchment wide integrated hydrological and hydrodynamic
models may be adopted. These models provide flow and level forecasts at the selected key locations known
as Forecast Points, which are usually located along major rivers or on streams near urban areas that have a
history of flooding.

The earliest sensations I can remember (Chapter 2, pg 40).
Victor soon starts reading the writings of alchemists such as Cornelius Agrippa, a medieval scientist whose
teachings were exploded by Frankenstein s time. These readings were what would ultimately lead to his
downfall. Eventually, after discovering the science of electricity, he stops studying Agrippa, and begins to
study mathematics instead, but fate as he puts it, brought him back to the field of science. Frankenstein, in
the first two chapters, keeps referring to his imminent doom, and his fate, which begins with the bringing to
life of his creation in chapter 5.
At the age of seventeen Victor leaves his family in Geneva to finish his studies at Ingolstadt University. Just
before he departs, his mother catches scarlet fever from Elizabeth, who she had been nursing back to health.

Characterism And Symbolism In Henry James s Washington Square
Henry James novel, Washington Square, tells the story of Catherine Sloper, a shy and extremely modest
woman who falls in love with a handsome and charming man, Morris Townsend, after meeting him at the
occasional party given by the aunt Mrs. Almond. Catherine, who is viewed by everyone as a woman with a
plain look and little personality, but a great dowry, becomes an easy target for Morris, a man with the
shadowy background. Unfortunately, for Catherine, her father, Dr. Sloper also considers her neither clever
nor beautiful and believes that Morris is only interested in his daughter for her money. It is also evident
throughout the novel that Morris desires Catherine s money and is not interested in her as a woman. When
Catherine s father does not change his mind towards the couple s marriage and Morris is convinced by Mrs.
Penniman that he will never get a penny from Dr. Sloper, he disappears within days after telling Catherine
he wants to travel to New Orleans for a business. After Morris abandons Catherine, she becomes more
confident in herself, discovers her inner strength, and gains control over her life.
In the beginning, James describes Catherine as not clever, stalwart, and extremely modest woman with no
trace of her mother s beauty. She was not ugly; she had simply plain, dull, gentle countenance (James 8).
James portrays Catherine as a woman who is willing to sacrifice her own personal happiness to please
others. She is of no interest to other characters in the

  • 2. Mary Oliver Rhetorical Analysis Essay The excerpt from Mary Oliver s Building the House serves as a way to describe what happens during the poetry writing process. Although Mary Oliver believes that writing poetry is hard work, she uses extended metaphor, juxtaposition, and point of view to describe the writing process in comparison of building a house, which shows that Oliver sees poetry as something that involves mental labor which is a different challenge than physical labor . • 4. Egypt And Greek Comparison Essay The development of civilizations was the key factor in advancing society, advancements that disposed of the idea of a hunter gather society. The ancient Egyptians and the Greeks are known for contributing the most towards civilization. However, each possessed similar and different qualities that came together to help shape our world today. The Egyptian civilization was very fortunate in terms that their environment was very dependable unlike Greece. The annual flooding of the Nile river renewed the soil and brought about fertile black soil that in turn resulted in them being the richest agricultural region. Egyptians figured out that the land beyond the river was inhabitable and the environment was not dependable. Realizing this they built their civilization around the Nile river and used the flooding to their advantage. However, unlike the Egyptians who settled around the river the Greeks built many cities upon mountain strongholds. For example, acropolis of Athens is known for being the fortified palace on top of the mountain. Like many early civilizations, both the Egyptians and Greeks had a social pyramid that didn t give much freedom to the people. In Egypt, the Pharaoh his family were known as completely apart from everyone else. There was the small majority of nobles who served priests and also the elite who were below the pharaoh and ... • 5. Pica Quality Improvement Project Running head: PICA QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT 1 Pica Quality Improvement Project Name Institutional Affiliation Quality Improvement Project Reasons for Selecting the Article My interest in the sickle cell disease (also known as sickle cell anemia), its causes and possible ways of treatment began when one of my best friends died from this sickness. In the course of my research on the subject, I came across an article titled: Identification of Pica Behaviors in Youth with Sickle Cell Disease ; it is not only recent, but also seems to have solid research as its basis. In particular, the article researches one of the major psychological disorders from which patients with the sickle cell disease (SCD) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... the article itself is not well written; it also seems to be somewhat improperly organized. The research question was not formulated clearly, as well as variables, subjects, and the hypothesis. Therefore, it can be difficult for the readers to interpret the processes and outcomes described in the article. As an amateur, I can still say that the material in the article is disorganised, so it is sometimes hard to understand the flow of the project s process. For example, the theoretic baseline was not explained explicitly, which made it more difficult for me to understand what the article was all about in general. As a person seeking to understand the sickle cell disease and Pica disorder in order to improve the quality of life in my society, I was a little disappointed with this fact. Thus, I would suggest the authors to arrange and explain the ideas and concepts mentioned in their research more fully. For example, I would accurately state whether the variables were independent, dependent, or controlled. Apart from these small drawbacks, I liked the article; I believe that the intentions of the authors were good, and that their study will contribute a lot to the healthcare systems of different countries ... • 6. Darfur Conflict Essay March 23rd, 2013 The Darfur Conflict The government of Sudan, a country in Northeast Africa, is committing a horrendous crime against humanity. Genocide is raging on in Western Sudan against poor, helpless, innocent people. It is actually the ten year anniversary since the beginning of the Darfur conflict and the genocide still continues on. There are over 1.4 million people who still do not have homes to come back to, and the numbers stack higher every day. Bombings have not stopped, as there was one as recent as February 2013. The Darfur conflict in the beginning was just a brewing disaster and it eventually led to the horrendous genocides in the early 2000s due to early settlement disputes, climate change, and radical Islamic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From 1972 onwards, the government usually ran Darfur through officials brought in from other parts of Sudan, mainly from Khartoum (Darfur: Origins). What Britain did basically doomed Non Arab Darfur to a future as an underdeveloped colony of Sudan s Arab speaking Nile Valley heartland (Darfur: Origins). Furthermore, another source of the problem began with the gradual change of the climate in Darfur. Desertification, a process by which land becomes increasingly dry until almost no vegetation grows on it, becomes a major problem for the Darfur people. Land for farming becomes scarce. Living on desert is unsuitable for humans for obvious reasons: lack of food and, more importantly, lack of water. There is not much suitable farm land, therefore the lack of fertile land caused the populations to compete with one another for land on which they could survive (Xavier 18). Before desertification became a huge problem for the Sudanese people, they lived in peace. Honestly, the hostility between Darfur s Arabs and Africans are relatively new (Xavier 20). This shows how the competition for survival helped fuel the terrible genocide in Darfur. In addition, political aspects have played a role in the roots of the Darfur conflict. With this uniqueness being very noticeable by those who know art, many artists take this sense of uniqueness and create art in certain ways to make their art personal. With thousands of different styles and mediums of art, artists have the world in their own fingertips. In the past, many famous artists have set the stone for certain styles of art, and really allowed them to expand for the world and the artists of this day to use, admire, and enjoy. As Signac grew up, he planned on being an architect, but this was shut down for painting. The reason behind this was the influence of an artist named Armand Guillaumin, who focused on Impressionism in his art. The sight of the artwork from Guillaumin inspired Signac to become an artist, using Impressionism to be later adapted in to his own style of neo impressionism and pointillism (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica 2011). As soon as Signac knew he wanted to be a painter, he embarked on a journey around the coasts of Europe, in which all the landscapes he painted were found while traveling (Cachin 1971). As his artwork began to improve, his relationships with other artists grew as well. In 1884, Signac helped found the Salon des Independants, where he met one of the biggest influences on his art, Georges Seurat (Cachin). When the two met each other, it was an instant click between the two. Signac was very fond of the methods Seurat showed in his work, and the theories behind his styles implemented in his work were uncanny in the eyes of Signac who became a faithful supporter of Seurat almost immediately. Both Signac and Seurat were very fond of impressionism and the art that came from it due to both being artists that used the same style. Nevertheless, under the influences of other art, Signac decided that instead of using styles found in impressionism such as short brushstrokes, he began to experiment with small dots of pure color to make art. With this experimentation, Signac revolutionized the way that he painted from an impressionism artist, to a newly created pointillism style (Cachin). In this new style of art, the points were small in size and distinct in color. The reasoning behind this was that Signac understood that if the colors were not blended, the mind would automatically be trigger to do the blending upon glace of the ... Even as a literary characteristic feature, America was the first nation to adopt federalism as a concept. Federalism is a system of government whereby political power is divided between a national government and other smaller political constituents such as states (Platt, 2014). Sociological Explanations For Gender Differences Outline and Assess Sociological Explanations for Gender Differences in Crime Rates Current statistics show that men commit 80% of all crime and women commit only 20%. However there are arguments to suggest that the statistics highlight an under representation of female criminality, and there are many sociological arguments to suggest that female criminals are treated more leniently. On the other hand, some sociologists believe women are treated more harshly when they commit certain types of crime. This essay aims to assess the reasons for gender differences in reported crime rates. Official crime rates are measured by crimes reported and recorded by the police and criminal justice system, and are collected by the Home Office. Frances Heidensohn (1975) believes that male criminality is 5 times higher than female criminality, which current data supports. However, Otto Pollak (1961) was the first sociologist to argue that crime rates for female crime were inaccurate. He believed that women were treated more leniently by the police and criminal justice system, which highlighted the under representation of female criminality in the official statistics. He argued that women were more likely to commit crimes such as petty theft, prostitution and criminal abortions, which were then likely to be treated more leniently. Anthropogenic temperature change refers to the assembly of greenhouse gases emitted by human action. By examining the polar ice cores, scientists are convinced that human action has inflated the proportion of greenhouse gases within the atmosphere, that has skyrocketed over the past few hundred years. (Climate Science Investigation, 2018) The IPCC, Fourth Report discusses in 2007 has multiple lines of proof that confirms that the post industrial rise in greenhouse gases doesn t stem from natural mechanisms. As the eldest character, Mama has been around for a larger portion of history, including slavery, which helps her to understand the plight of the African American population and how much progress has been made. As the matriarch of the family, she is regarded with reverence and the head of household, even though she feels obligated to remain in traditional female roles as homemaker for her family. By the end of the play, she grants Walter the permission to take over as the head of the household, like you supposed to be (Hansberry 1827). By being part of the modernist, young generation of the 1950s, Beneatha is obviously going to have some very strongly clashing viewpoints from that of Mama and the rest of her family. For instance, Beneatha is pursuing her dream to become a doctor, an almost completely male dominated profession in the 1950s, yet her family is not supportive of this fantasy profession. In fact, Walter goes so far as to tell Beneatha if she is so crazy bout messing round with sick people then she should go be a nurse like other women or just get married (Hansberry 1779). This is an important quote because it shows how much agency a man has in a household while presenting the social norms of the time period. Continuing to fight the societal norms and her traditional family, Beneatha makes many choices her family considers as radical. She decides to grow into her heritage by changing her straight, mutilated hair into a more traditional, natural afro (Hansberry 1789); this symbol works into the movement of the time that Black is Beautiful. She also dances around in traditional African clothing, becoming more aware and prideful of her own sense of culture. Beneatha also shocks her family by being disconcerted with the idea of marriage, even after Asagai asked her to marry him today and go to Africa (Hansberry 1824). Once again, ... • 36. My Philosophy And Rationale In The Classroom Philosophy and Rationale The assertiveness is a clear affirmation that both teachers and students are to be treated with respect (Purkey, 2004, p. 100). My philosophy within the classroom, is creating and maintaining a sense of respect; a classroom where a mutual respect between myself and the students is seen among all who enter the classroom environment. However, with this sense of mutual respect, students should understand that if misbehavior does occur, all students will have a voice, but I have the ultimate decision of choosing the route we take to ensure that this misbehavior does not occur again. I also want students to be self aware; understanding that they are in control of their own lives and that I respect them enough to let them make their own rational decisions. Another key component in my philosophy of the classroom, is getting to know the students on a personal level. I want to know about their families, the sports they play, the foods they like to eat, the friends they have, and/or the church they attend. Based on personal experience, when a teacher takes the time to know you outside of the classroom, a great bond is built. When the bond is built, a sense of trust in created between the teacher and student. I want my students to trust me, respect me, but know that I believe in them to make decisions that are beneficial for themselves; through this, I will respect my students, listen to them, and support them in the decisions they make. ABSTRACT Artificial intelligent models (AIMs) have been successfully adopted in hydrological forecasting in a plenty of literatures. Flood warnings must be provided with an adequate lead time for the public and the emergency services to take actions to minimize flood damages. Real time flood forecasting is an important and integral part of a flood warning service, and can help to provide more accurate and timely warnings. Depending on catchment characteristics and catchment response to rainfall, various types of flood forecasting models, including correlations, simple trigger flood forecasting, and more sophisticated real time catchment wide integrated hydrological and hydrodynamic models may be adopted. These models provide flow and level forecasts at the selected key locations known as Forecast Points, which are usually located along major rivers or on streams near urban areas that have a history of flooding. 2. ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK: ANN consists of a large number of parallel processing neuros, working independently and connecting to each other by weighted links. It is capable of simulating complex nonlinear system due to its ability of self learning, self adaption and generalization. The feed forward neural network (FFNN), with one input layer, one or more hidden layer and one output layer, is employed in this study. Victor soon starts reading the writings of alchemists such as Cornelius Agrippa, a medieval scientist whose teachings were exploded by Frankenstein s time. Characterism And Symbolism In Henry James s Washington Square Henry James novel, Washington Square, tells the story of Catherine Sloper, a shy and extremely modest woman who falls in love with a handsome and charming man, Morris Townsend, after meeting him at the occasional party given by the aunt Mrs. Almond. Catherine, who is viewed by everyone as a woman with a plain look and little personality, but a great dowry, becomes an easy target for Morris, a man with the shadowy background. Unfortunately, for Catherine, her father, Dr. Sloper also considers her neither clever nor beautiful and believes that Morris is only interested in his daughter for her money. It is also evident throughout the novel that Morris desires Catherine s money and is not interested in her as a woman. When Catherine s father does not change his mind towards the couple s marriage and Morris is convinced by Mrs. Penniman that he will never get a penny from Dr. Sloper, he disappears within days after telling Catherine he wants to travel to New Orleans for a business. After Morris abandons Catherine, she becomes more confident in herself, discovers her inner strength, and gains control over her life. In the beginning, James describes Catherine as not clever, stalwart, and extremely modest woman with no trace of her mother s beauty.
