Essay on Female Chauvinist Pigs
In Female Chauvinist Pigs, Ariel Levy attempts to reconcile her personal views of feminism with its
portrayal in popular culture. In order to challenge what she sees as a co opted version of feminism,
Levy raises the question of authenticity of sex positive feminism (Levy, 63) on two levels: by selling
out in terms of the body and in terms of our patriarchal culture. In order to restore a binary
relationship between feminism and non feminism, Levy recasts this sex positive feminism as a new
form of (fe)male chauvinism. To do so, Levy turns to the experiences of several young women whom
she interviews. From her interpretations of these experiences, Levy reaches the conclusion that these
women s sexual nature revolves around their need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This binary relationship manifests itself in Levy s work in another way, as well. Toward the very end
of the book Levy claims she has no complaint against women who do gain genuine sexual pleasure
from their vaginas waxed, their breasts enlarged (Levy, 198). On one hand, Levy recognizes that
sexuality is personal and that everyone s own experiences and preferences are unique. Yet at the same
time, by drawing the line between authentic and fake , she must impersonally interpret these
experiences in order to classify them as problematic . This desire to judge yet not judge women s
sexual nature represents an underlying tension within the book that threatens to unravel her arguments.
Levy further asserts her binary comparison in a temporal manner by comparing the feminism of the
past with the feminism of the present, as she claims in recent years, the term feminism has fallen
further and further out of favour (Levy, 86). By framing her own views of feminism as those
belonging to an earlier point in the timeline, she privileges these views as original or authentic . Yet
this does not acknowledge that the anti porn wars of the 80 s was a point at which feminism branched
out, rather than transitioned from one set of beliefs to another. As a result, the cultural changes that she
observed occurred in the presence of both stances of feminism, making it difficult to distil the cause.
Levy privileges past over present in her suggestion

Prohibition was the Time to be a Criminal in America
There d never been a more advantageous time to be a criminal in America than during the 13 years of
Prohibition. At a stroke, the American government closed down the fifth largest industry in the United
States alcohol production and just handed it to criminals a pretty remarkable thing to do
(Bill Bryson). The twenties was a fast paced fun, loving time, the one problem was no alcohol. With
the twenties came the rise of jazz, flappers, different fashions, and prohibition. Jazz, flappers, and
different fashions made life enjoyable but, prohibition caused the rise of criminals, who saw the
demand for alcohol, and the opportunity to make money, by selling it to average people, along with
government officials. Noteworthy criminals helped define the roaring twenties by helping everyday
citizens break the law. To understand how this defined the decade, it is important to explore how
gangsters provided alcohol to citizens, bribed police and government officials, and made criminals
popular. Prohibition was a law passed whereby the manufacture, sale and transportation of alcohol
was illegal, this gave gangsters and average citizens the opportunity to make easy money, if they did
not get caught. The most noteworthy criminal during this time was Al Capone, in Chicago, he bribed
government officials, ran bootlegging rackets, prostitution, and gambling dens. Al Capone didn t
become a criminal overnight, at a young age he dropped out of school and was welcomed into the

New York Public Library Essay
INTRODUCTION
The New York Public Library is one of the most revered institutions of a city with many competing
interests. To stand out of the crowd is a tough and serious task. Embodied in the Beaux Art building on
the corner of Fifth Avenue and Forty Second Street in Manhattan, the flagship building is synonymous
with everything that makes New York City, a world class metropolis, known the world over. It is big,
imposing spacious, and an architectural wonder. The majestic lions, Patience and Fortitude guard the
Stephan A Schwarzman building, as it now known are equally emblematic and as famous as the
institution, which they guard itself. These lions have witnessed many a parades, and fanfares over the
years, as well as weathered through the city s and worse periods.
Originally, name Astor and Lenox, after Jacob Astor and James Lenox , founding donors, gave their
private libraries, combined, created The New York Public Library in 1895. Since, then these lions
were baptized North and South according their geographic location on the city street grid. During the

Best Buy Co., Inc. Customer-Centricity
Best Buy Co., Inc. Customer Centricity Background: The consumer electronics giant, Best Buy, was
first established in 1966 with a single location and a staff of three in St. Paul, Minnesota, selling audio
equipment targeted at 18 25 year old males. Initially Sound of Music/Best Buy grew through
acquisition, expanding to nine locations in the Twin Cities area by 1978. The name, Best Buy, and
expanded product line, ranging from audio and video equipment to large appliances, were a result of a
best buy sale of damaged inventory at bargain prices in 1981. In the mid 1980s, Best Buy launched
superstores similar to those of their main competitor, Circuit City and expanded by 15 stores between

Best Buy had a history of being able to adapt to the changing markets and their ability to do so
contributed to their success (i.e. the vastly expanded product line, evolution to superstores, expansion,
acquisition, converting from commission to salaried sales force.). The perception that customers were
focusing less on the technical aspect of products and redirecting their attention to service and support,
led to Anderson s custom centricity initiative. This transition and the rollout of 144 new centricity Best
Buy stores was being blamed for the company missing third quarter earnings in 2005, resulting in a
12% decline in stock value and a loss of nearly $2B in market capitalization. Did Anderson perform
the proper strategic market planning analysis before selecting and implementing the centricity
initiative? Assess the need for a change in Best Buy s strategy when Brand Anderson became CEO. If
the centricity concept is being blamed for not meeting earnings and the decline in Best Buy s stock
price and market capitalization, the question becomes was there a need for this change to the company
s strategy, was the strategy poorly implemented, was there a delayed market response to the change, or
was the launch an overly aggressive action of a newly appointed CEO? The Best Buy leadership team
first needed to evaluate whether there truly was a need for a (drastic) change and if so, was centricity
the appropriate response to the market.

Slavery In Central America
Slavery had an effect on the world as we know it today for many differnet reasons. African American
slaves were considered the prime slave workers during the time of the atlantic world and this caused
African slaves to live a very brutal and unequal life to this day. When the english settled in the
Americas, work had needed to be done to survive. So with so much land, farming seemed to be the
best option. The best farming grounds were in central america, the only problem is the weather in
Central America is tropical. Unlike what most enlgishmen had expeirinced before. The land was filled
with riches and could only be obtained by farming, but who would be the one to work all day out in
the feilds in the scorching heat? The english decided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the journey across the Atlantic ocean, the average death rate was 13%. The slaves were in dreadful
conditions being in close bunkers for anywhere over a 6 week journey. Slaves would only be in fresh
air (top deck) for a few hours a week, even if that. This caused many slaves to die in the journey.
When slaves arrived in the new land, they had brought with them simple things such as music, culture,
and religion. Once slaves arrived at the new world they were auctioned off the the highest bidder. The
number of slaves to choose from was a large amount. To get a profit from a slaves life they only had to
be alive for 2.7 years, which caused a slave owner to be free to work their slaves to death. Not until
the 1800 s did the slavery of African Americans end. Americans did not drop the fact that Africans
were slaves and considered not human so Americans developed rasism. To this very day, African
Americans are still treated unfair and very uneqaul compared to the white men . This caused enormous
tensions between whites and blacks and many protests over the past hunrded years. African americans
will forever live a brutal life, there will always be tension betweeen whites and

Red’s Redemption- Shawshank Redemption
The Shawshank Redemption follows the lives of Ellis Red Redding and Andy Dufresne and their
twenty year stint at the Shawshank State Penitentiary. Red (a guilty man) is serving a life sentence for
murder, Andy (an innocent man) is serving consecutive life sentences for the murder of his wife and
her lover. Throughout the film, Red and Andy form an unlikely friendship that transcends age, race,
and class boundaries that ultimately leads to Red s spiritual redemption and freedom.
The film is set up for a classic white and black pairing with a magical negro narrative, however, The
Shawshank Redemption subverts expectations. Red defies the cinema stereotype of the mystical black
man or the Magical Negro because he is portrayed with dignity, because he is the main character and
everyman, because he is not extraordinarily wise or supernatural (though he does give advice, it is not
his only or main role in the text), and he survives the film having learned a lesson from a white
character. This denunciation is significant because it is a rejection of common black/white race
relation stereotypes, and because it is a landmark replacement of negative stereotypes with positive
realisms in cinema.
Celebrated director Spike Lee coined the term at a Yale conference during which he addressed race
relations in modern film (Gonzales). This stereotype focuses on a character who the audience
identifies as black. This (often supporting) character seems sensible and habitually

File Sharing And Web Piracy Essay
In recent years, web piracy or file sharing of proprietary material has gained abundant quality. it s a
subject that has endlessly sparked dialogue and has even received world attention. though on the
surface the act of file sharing could appear harmless, it s aloof from it. Each year, film and record
production firms in addition as software system and game development firms suffer from billions of
greenbacks in lost profits. This loss comes as an instantaneous results of web piracy. several agree that
file sharing is unethical and take into account it to be no completely different than downright thievery.
On the opposite hand, there ar people who support file sharing and claim that their actions ar simply
even and moral. This essay can give a short summary and history of file sharing, can take into account
the arguments of every facet, and can provide my personal observations and stance on the difficulty.
File sharing, put simply, is that the method of constructing offered and distributing files via the web.
several freely developed applications are created offered that alter this method, providing the
flexibility to simply look for, download, and transfer any piece of digital content possible. These
applications ar ordinarily remarked as P2P or peer to peer applications as they permit people (peers) to
directly connect with alternative peers to share files. By themselves, such applications ar useless; a
central network should be offered that enables every peer

Daddy s Hands Research Paper
Daddy s Hands
Teenage girls lives are shaped in many different ways. Everything is a big deal to a teenage girl; what
she wears, what she participates in, and who she dates. A girl s relationship with her father strongly
influences her life. Whether the relationship with her father is good or bad, the daughter will be
effected by it. There are four main types of fathers: the Absentee Father, the Intermittent Father, the
Abusive Father, and the Perfect Father. A father s relationship with his daughter influences her opinion
of men, therefore she judges every man based on her father s example. This impacts her dating life,
social life, and leads to more relationship issues with men throughout life. A girl s life is greatly
impacted by her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an article about fathers leaving affecting his daughters, it says, As the first man in her life, the
young girl s father creates the prototype for her ideal partner consciously and unconsciously. He goes
on to be experienced by his pubescent daughter as the mirror on the wall the ultimate reflection, not
only of her fairness but her desirability (Kavanagh, 2002). A father is the man she loved first and is
supposed to be a little girl s favorite man. Her daddy is the person who is supposed to be there for her
from the moment she is born, to the moment he dies. The Perfect Father is the most important man in
his daughter s life and is involved in all her decisions. This may cause the daughter to be indecisive
because she relies too much on her father. It may lead to the daughter comparing every man to her
father, and some may not measure up. Some girls even look for a man to marry that is exactly like her
father. In my opinion, I think that having your father be the role model for a future husband is ideal. A
girl is used to the way her father acts and finding someone like him would be an easy transition. The
Perfect Father may not always be the ideal father for everyone, but for me it

The Sociological Theories Of Gender Development In Society
Socialization happens over our interactions; however, it is not as simple as it may seem. A gender
system occurs in every society. It is all about of all the ideas of female and male that are in a certain
place at a certain time and all the values as regards who decides what, who does what, and how we
feel ourselves and one another, mutually and independently. For this reason, there are too many gender
researchers that study how we construct our life (for example, how we think, feel, interpret, etc.).
Researches who came up with some theories about gender development, and we will be explaining
them in this essay. According to the book Gendered lives by Julia T. Wood, a theory is a way to
describe, explain, and predict relationships among phenomena. She also explains that each of us uses
theories to make sense of our live, to guide our attitudes and actions, and to predict other s behavior
(Julia T Wood, 37). With this intention, researches came up with four classifications of gender
development and behaviors theories: biological, interpersonal, cultural and critical. Biological theories
of gender maintain that biological characteristics such as chromosomes, hormonal activities and brain
specialization account for gender differences (Julia T. Wood, 38). In other words, gender is determined
by chromosomes and hormones. In fact, hormonal activity plays a big roll in gender development. For
example, there is a study made by Quadango et al. (1977) that found that female

Essay On Major Depressive Disorder
There are numbers of dangerous non communicable diseases and disabilities that affect the daily lives
of millions of people. Non communicable diseases and disabilities can be physical, but they can also
be mental. One of these diseases is the Major Depressive Disorder or MDD. I chose this mental
disability because mental disabilities affect many people, but they often go unnoticed. This article will
explain what Major Depressive Disorder is, its effects, and how it can be controlled. Major Depressive
Disorder is a serious mental disability that affects approximately 14.8 million adults in America.
Though, what exactly is Major Depressive Disorder? The MDD is very similar to moderate
depression, but the symptoms are more severe. Episodes of this type of severe depression often occur
more than once in a person s life. The symptoms of this mental disability can cause difficulty with
eating, sleeping, enjoying life, working, and studying. A person experiencing MDD may also have
thoughts of suicide. Daily tasks become much harder with this disorder, but there are ways to help
control Major Depressive Disorder. MDD has several ways in which it can be solved or become less
intense. One way people can treat it is by taking antidepressants. They are often the first solution

There are, however, ways to lower the risk of getting one. A major factor in depression is stress.
Controlling your stress levels will encourage your self esteem and increase your ability to bounce back
from depression. Allowing yourself to be around family and friends can help to boost your overall
mood. Family and friends can also help you get over depression at a faster rate. Finally, if you see the
signs of MDD you should seek help or medication quickly. By doing this you will lower the risk of it
getting worse. Even though there is no way to prevent it you can take steps to stop it from worsening

The Content For Elearning Environments
This is a critique of Dose Culture Matter? A qualitative and comparison study on eLearning in
Germany and China . I am attracted to this article because I work in the eLearning industry doing
visual content for eLearning environments. This study is relevant to my career path and is a topic of
interest for me. Although my current work does not transcend the boundaries of Canada, I think as
national boundaries become less significant to information products that making culturally sensitive
eLearning environments will become more prevalent.
Introduction: The introduction is clearly presented and balances well the preamble of eLearning in
Germany and in China, to center on what are the needs of eLearning as an exported product.
Specifically this study s focus is whether culture is a barrier faced by eLearning products made in a
western culture being exported to another culture. As an education product, eLearning faces deep
grooves of ingrained learning methods that have underlying cultural significance. The article sets out
to appraise the cultural variables in technology mediated learning and use a series of interviews to
help determine the barriers. The authors and researchers of the article are Nadine Hammer and Andres
Janson, Research Associates, and Jan Marco Leimeister, Professor at the University of Kassel,
Research Centre for Information System Design, as the authors are all academics, one may presume
they have knowledge and skills to conduct the proposed research.

Crucifixion Of Jesus Christ And His Death On The Cross
Crucifixion, the word makes one automatically think of Jesus Christ, and His death on the cross by to
Romans. Even if there is no previous history of Christian faith, the image of Jesus on the cross is still
prominent when thinking of crucifixion. Crucifixion, the definition given by Merriam Webster
dictionary is the crucifying of Jesus. Gerard Sloyan states, Jesus of Nazareth in Galilee died on the
cross at the hands of Roman justice, hundreds of thousands were subjected to the cruel punishment
before and after Him. Yet one is hard pressed to provide the name of another victim of crucifixion (1).
As infamous as Jesus crucifixion is, there are still some that doubt, not about the crucifixion of Jesus,

(Sloyan 15). The Romans preferred, those sentenced to crucifixion, be beaten, flogged, and tortured
before their death upon the cross. It weakened the victims to such a degree that their time on the cross
was shortened. (Sloyan 17). There has been some debate over the years as to whether the Romans
used rope or nails to affix victims of crucifixion to the cross, however evidence has been found prove
nails are used. In the 1960 s archaeologists in Jerusalem found remains of around three dozen Jews,
who had died during an uprising against Rome in A.D. 70. The remains of one victim, was found with
a seven inch nail still piercing the feet, with remains of olive wood from the cross still attached.
(Strobel 200 201). This discovery confirmed biblical connects to the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The
medical evidence, though Jesus died long before modern medicine, is still there to support the facts,
that there is no way Jesus could have survived the cross. Even before Jesus made it the cross, there is
evidence Jesus suffered and was tortured before his death.
The Jesus was preparing for his mind for the torture that was to come in the following days, so he was
naturally experiencing a great deal of psychological stress. (Strobel 194). In Luke 22:44 Jesus is
praying on the Mount of Olives, And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was
like drops of blood falling to the ground. As

Christianity s Attachment And Underlying Principles And...
Christianity s attachment to underlying principles and beliefs are centered on the devotion of the Holy
Trinity. The perception of the trinity has shaped controversy by finding a solution from a reliable
origin. Deliberation on the true entity of God is unavoidable and contrasting opinions emerge by
human endeavor. Debate on the trinity largely was derived by disagreement on the concepts ousia
(common essence) and hypostasis (substance). These concepts became distinctive by The
Cappadocian Fathers: Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa, and Gregory of Nazianzus. The relationship
of God, the Father, and his son Jesus Christ was defined by the Cappadocian Fathers and what is
understood today in the Christian Doctrine. The Cappadocian Fathers were highly commended
martyrs that advanced the development of early Christian theology. Without the efforts of The
Cappadocian Fathers evolvement in defining the relationship of the Father, the Son, and the Holy
Spirit, there would still be contest identical to early progression in Christian history.
HISTORY BEHIND THE TRINITY
The acceptance from expressing religious logic arouses deliberation in society. Throughout history,
theological debates were generated from the discussion of God s exact nature and accordance with his
son, Jesus Christ. Even though the trinity has been agreed upon as a secret above human
comprehension, this is naturally misleading due to its complexity. The beliefs surrounding the Holy
Spirit were neglected due to the

The Midlife Transition Of Daniel Levinson s Theories Of Life
The midlife crisis tale is true and can happen to you without you even thinking twice about it. Daniel
Levinson is a theorist, a graduate from Yale, who earned his degree as a psychologist. He later
developed a comprehensive theory of adult development. His theory, that he spent so much of his late
life working on, is so important because it suggests that growth and development still happens well
into the adult years. Daniel Levinson s theory is based on the underlying pattern of an individuals life
at any given point in time. He states, a person s life structure is shaped mainly by their social and
physical environment, and primarily involves family and work. Not only may social and physical

Dyslexia Observation
The first step in accommodating students with dyslexia is identifying students who have difficulties
with the language processing of reading, writing, and spelling. Difficulties can be identified through
observation. Some of the characteristics to be gathered is whether the student has a hard time sounding
out words, reads slow with hesitation, and omits/adds/reverses letters in words. Also, it is important to
see if the student forgets spelling rules, makes phonological errors, and calls letters out of sequence.
The student may forget to use capital letters when appropriate, have an inconsistent writing style, and
be reluctant to writing (Reid, 2007). They will have no enjoyment of reading or writing as a leisure
activity. They will be very forgetful, will often lose things, and become easily distracted. They will
also complete tasks later than a given time limit. Research indicates that many dyslexic students

Bay Of Pigs Was A Failure
The boat hit an unexpected coral reef, making the men have to swim to shore. Once there, they were
met with a hail of gunfire. It was this bad luck that was only the beginning of a failed operation called
the Bay of Pigs. This was an intense short lived, and poorly planned conflict. People call this CIA s
perfect failure, (History.com.).
This conflict had the involvement of JFK(president at the time), Dwight D Eisenhower (president
when it started), CIA (Central Intelligence Agency), and a Cuban dictator named Fidel Castro. In the
year 1961, Castro and his band overthrew the president and assumed power over Cuba.Over the
following months, Castro cut off ties with the U.S., trained his own guerilla army, and started training
with China to gain income from Cuba s plantations (Encyclopaedia Britannica.com ). This and
multiple other reasons are why we went to Cuba to fight Castro (By we I mean the U.S.). When we
did attack our boats landed on the shore of Bay of Pigs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Castro was gaining more power, and being so close to America, he could become threatening to the
U.S. JFK thought he might try something, so the CIA got involved. Now, this all took place during the
cold war and Cuba and Russia were allies in this war. An american attack on Cuba could result in a
retaliation on Russia s part and JFK did not want that, so he took Dwight D Eisenhower s plan of
training Cuban refugees that came to the U.S. to fight in Cuba

What Is The Humanistic Approach In Psychology
1. Psychodynamic psychology focuses on making sense of individual relationships, experiences, and
how people view the world. This approach says our behaviors and feelings are effected by
unconscious motives. Our feelings are greatly influenced by our past experiences and are stored in our
unconscious.
2. The behavioral approach to psychology views people as controlled by their environment.
Behaviorism proposes two main processes by which people learn from their environment. The
processes are: classical and operant conditioning. Classical conditioning involves learning by
association. Operant conditioning involves learning from the consequence of a behavior.

5 Steps to the Scientific Research Method
1. Perceiving the Question
The scientific method starts when you ask a question about something you have observed: How, what,
when , who, why, or where?
2. Forming a Hypothesis
A hypothesis is an educated guess. It is an attempt to answer your question with an explanation that
can be tested.
3. Testing the Hypothesis
You test your hypothesis by doing an experiment. Your experiment will tell you whether your
prediction is correct.
4. Drawing a Conclusion
Once your experiment is finished, you analyze your data. Your hypothesis may or may not be correct.
If your hypothesis is not supported, you may want to conduct further experiments to answer your
question.
5. Reporting your Results
The final step is to report your findings. You would record your hypothesis, what your experiment
was, and why. Lastly, log your findings and what the results mean.

Johannes Veermeer Accomplishments
Very little is known about Johannes Vermeer. He was exclusively devoted to the arts. Due to his
elusiveness, Thore Burger named him The Sphinx of Delft ( Biography of ). Vermeer was an artist
during the Dutch Golden Age, a period of wealth for the Netherlands. Many outbreaks of the plague
had come and gone, but things were finally returning to what they were like before it began. Trade
flourished through the East India Company. The arts became popular, and artists were gaining wealth
and fame. Many art guilds were formed where artists could communicate with other artists in their
community.
Johannes Vermeer s paintings deeply impacted the Dutch Golden Age. Girl With a Pearl Earring by
Tracy Chevalier is a fictional story told from the point of view of Griet, a maid in the Vermeer

The Girl With a Pearl Earring. Griet shows through her eyes how Johannes Vermeer began his
paintings, the painting process, and how he ended them. The Netherlands was thriving during the time
Vermeer lived, the Dutch Golden Age. Vermeer was an influential artist who contributed to the
Netherland s Golden Age. The independent novel Girl With a Pearl Earring showcases the
realisticness of Vermeer s paintings and his affiliation in Dutch society.

Repercussions In Education
The United States is no longer the leader in education standards and in fact is no longer even making
the top ten when it comes to reading, math, and science literacy rankings among the world for
education (Learning Curve, 8). The repercussions are that college graduates are not as competitive
globally as they once were and obtaining desired careers are more competitive than ever, having an
ultimate result of slowing down the economy. Due to these conditions, education reform needs to be
dealt with immediately as it will take years of implementation before any positive results are actually

parents should become involved in education reform. In New York City, parents withheld their
children from participating in standardized testing; proclaiming that too much time was spent on
training for the tests and not enough time and faith was given to the teachers to teach according to
their best judgement and training. Instead of waiting on politicians to lead the change in education

Vietnam s strong sense of nationalism was a major contributor why Vietnam was able to defeat the

This is shown through a French Foreign Legionnaire Henry Ainley reflecting on the war saying The
Viet Minh were everywhere and nowhere. It was impossible to pin them down which conveys the
French frustrations and how effective guerrilla warfare was to the Viet Minh. However, Vo Nguyen
Giap also used conventional warfare as he knew he could not defeat the French with guerrilla tactics
alone. This was evident in the battle of Dien Bien Phu.
The battle of Dien Bien Phu was significant in the first Indochina war as the defeat here led to the
surrender of the French on the 7th may 1954. In the battle of Dien Bien Phu General Vo Nguyen Giap
was lured here by the French in an attempt to fight the Viet Minh in open battle, as the French General

In Dien Bien Phu there were several reasons why the French were defeated. The French were being
fired down upon in the valley, giving a heavy advantage to the Viet Minh. Another vital reason was
because Viet Minh forces destroyed the French airstrip early, consequently only way supplies could be

Emily Dickinson Paradox
Emily Dickinson was born on December 10, 1830, and died on May 15, 1886. During these 55 years,
she wrote nearly 1,800 poems. Very few of these poems were published during her life, most of them
only being discovered by her sister after Dickinson s death (Crash Course). Nearly all of her poems
are highly complex, either having allegorical qualities or contradicting themselves. In fact, Dickinson
s poetry was so contradictory that she has been regarded as the poet of paradox . Growing up, the poet
claimed to be haunted by the menace of death (Crash Course) and therefore wrote many poems about
death, immortality, and time. She also wrote a lot about religion, often going back and forth between
theism and atheism. She also wrote often about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dickinson was obsessed with the concept of death. While this probably was a consequence of her poor
mental health, it allowed her to imagine death in many different ways. For example in her arguably
most famous poem Because I could not stop for Death she sees Death as a suitor, taking her away as
his bride. Another notable example is in I heard a Fly buzz when I died : There interposed a Fly with
Blue uncertain stumbling Buzz (Dickinson). In this poem there are two interpretations of who this fly
could represent: God or Death. No matter who the fly represents, however, they still serve the same
purpose: to guide the narrator into a peaceful death. Another common theme in Dickinson s poems
regarding death is the value of sight. To Dickinson, sight often is an allegory for observation or life.
For example, in I heard a Fly buzz when I died the last stanza discusses the narrator looses sight.
Between the light and me And then the Windows failed and then I could not see to see (Dickinson). In
this stanza, the narrator discusses how the fly gets between them and their line of sight. At the very
end, there is a dash and nothing following it shows the sudden absence of thought that occurs after

The Pardoner Of Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
Hypocrisy is a common attribute attributed to many of Chaucer s religious characters in The
Canterbury Tales. They are greedy, drunks, and people without a moral code. In The Pardoner s Tale
this theme is exemplified. The Pardoner is greedy and drunk. Matthew 19:24 (ESV) says, Again I tell
you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the
kingdom of God. Despite this, the Pardoner s only goal is to scam as many people as he can with his
pardoning of sins. The Pardoner would pretend to have objects blessed by the Vatican and sell them to
people as an indulgence for future sins. It is doubtful that any of his objects had even been to Rome.
Therefore, when the Pardoner starts his tale, it is one full of hypocrisy and deceit. Arguably, Chaucer s
grievance was not specific to the Pardoner. Rather, Chaucer used this character to make a wider point
about the corruption of religion during the fourteenth century. During Chaucer s life, the fourteenth
century, it was a common belief that outward physical attribute represents the personal attributes such
as one s moral code and vices. Chaucer s first description of the Pardoner s appearance says, This
pardoner hadde heer as yelow as wex. / But smothe it heeng as dooth a strike of flex; / By ounces
henge his lokkes that he hadde[.] The Pardoner had thin, stringy yellow hair. It was limp on his head

Furthermore, I can see from this graph that the GDP per capita in the U.S.A and Mexico was relatively
close and low, and their gap was small from 1900 to 1940. This because the economy was slow to

Female Sexuality Within Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre
Charlotte Brontë s Jane Eyre sets a strong example of female sexuality in the Victorian era. The title
character confronts herself with her feelings for Mr. Rochester and her growing throughout the novel.
She eventually finds the courage to embrace herself as she is. Jane s independent mind and nature
contradict the grain of Victorian society. She defies historical notions of female sexuality and
Victorian codes and rules on sexuality. Brontë reimagines the Victorian notion of marriage as she
emphasizes Jane s education and female work. The Introduction of 1983 s The Woman Question Vol.
2 states, Almost any public statement bearing on the Woman Question whether an essay, a review, a
novel, a poem, a lecture, a cartoon, or a painting was likely to generate a chain of responses, and to be
read as a response to prior statements in an ongoing public discussion (Helsinger xi). This quote
conveys the message of Victorian times and their grasp on femininity. Many people, like Charlotte
Brontë, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and John Stuart Mill, disagreed with common conceptions and
advocated for women s beliefs. Others, like those belonging to the True Womanhood Cult, were
motivated, less by chauvinism than by deep needs and genuine concern (57). Self sacrifice and a
submissive role were expected virtues of femininity. Physicians and scientists also introduced a single
minded approach to women s sexuality and behavioral nature. One of the most important and adverse

Alzheimer s is a poem about an old man who just comes back home from the hospital. The sort of
things the man with Alzheimer s remembers in the poem are the house, his identity, the walkway he
built, the garage, his car and the rhododendron. These belongings are described in the poem as, This is
his house. He remembers it as his, Remembers the walkway he built between the front room and the
garage, the rhododendron he planted in back, the car he used to drive. He remembers himself, a
younger man, in a tweed hat, a man who loved
Music. In the end, the old man doesn t seem to remember his wife the white haired woman, which
seems to be the first thing on his lists to do. In my opinion, the old man, who has Alzheimer s, has lost
most of his memory due to his condition and the poem describes his struggle to reestablish his
thinking.
5. Bonus: The speaker of this poem is a daughter worried about her father s struggle with Alzheimer s.
The author of the poem, Kelly Cherry, is the speaker and is narrating her life s story. Although there is

Summary Of Chapter Twelve Of The Omnivore s Dilemma
Reading Summary/Discussion Questions #3 This past week of class we were to read chapters ten
through fourteen of The Omnivore s Dilemma. This week s readings were really a mix of different
things, but it was a more behind the scenes look at what happens on a farm. I found it all very
interesting, as I have this entire book, because often times I do not know what all goes into farming
and it was interesting to see how it traveled from Polyface Farms to the market to a meal. In chapters
ten and eleven, Pollan continues to observe Salatin s Polyface Farm where he focuses on his

agriculture. Finally, chapter twelve deals with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the contrary, the U.S. Department of Agriculture believes in fence to fence sowing, so there are

lead to disease. Unfortunately, this agriculture has been stripped of its wisdom and intelligence. Even
Salatin points out that rural schools encourage the smarter ones to go to college and the low scoring
students stay behind to help on the farm. Basically, it s a foolish culture that entrusts its food supply to
simpletons (Pollan 221). Coming from a rural school, I see this being true, but I also have to disagree
with Salatin because they may not be the smartest, but they sure do know a lot about corn. The second
section to be reviewed is chapter thirteen. In this chapter, Pollan sees how Salatin sells his food and
how it compares to other supermarkets. Compared to other supermarkets, Polyface Farm s food is
more expensive; however, Salatin argues that it is actually, if fact, cheaper. He believes that because it
is produced without subsidies and it is more sustainable compared to industrial food. Consumers also
have a reason for choosing Salatin s food over other supermarkets. They believe that his chicken tastes
better and would rather pay for quality, which it seems many people do not want to do today. For
example, I work at a farmer s market and you would not believe how many people complain

Socrates Life Of The Soul, And Critical Thinking
Work, school, and other responsibilities make it very hard to take time out of one s day for self
reflection. Society today seems to almost discourage reflection, as it demands a full cycle of work and
consumption. Socrates believed that a person s job in life is to grow both personally and spiritually.
Without growth of the human soul, a person is not able to reach the pure serenity of the examined life.
Socrates understood wisdom to be one of the most important virtues a person could possess. Seeking
true wisdom entails questioning with logical argument, not just accepting things for what they are
worth. Contrary to Socrates, Ivan Ilyich lived a life full of social status and in constant desire for
wealth, two qualities he presumed would give him a life of abundance and happiness. In order to truly
live the examined life, one has to incorporate virtue, care of the soul, and critical thinking. Although
money and power are connected to excellence, the true excellence for the soul is virtue. One of the
most important parts of the examined life is virtue. If Socrates were to critique this part of Ivan s life,
he would find many components of Ivan s life that are lacking excellent virtues, an aspect of the
unexamined life. Since the day Ivan was born, he was surrounded by success and wealth. His father
was a very well respected man who held much status in their hometown. Growing up with an
entourage of people adoring his father, Ivan was convinced that status was the most

San Joaquin Valley Drinking Water Pollution Case Study
While nitrates are one of the major contaminants in the area, San Joaquin Valley residents face
drinking water pollution from many other sources including arsenic, coliform bacteria, and pesticides.
Arsenic is a naturally occurring semi metal element that is found in different types of rocks. While
arsenic primarily occurs naturally, human activities impact the amount of arsenic in groundwater.
Arsenic is not only toxic at high concentrations, but also harmful after prolonged exposure at
moderately elevated levels. California recognizes arsenic as a human carcinogen and believes
prolonged exposure to the element to be associated with various cancers, including skin, bladder,

the 1960 s New York, portraying the life of the protagonist, Don Draper (Jon Hamm), the Creative
Director of Sterling Cooper Agency, an advertising agency owned by Roger Sterling (John Slattery).
Don Draper is praised for his work, but many of the employees in the company, like Draper, are filled

  • 2. Essay on Female Chauvinist Pigs In Female Chauvinist Pigs, Ariel Levy attempts to reconcile her personal views of feminism with its portrayal in popular culture. In order to challenge what she sees as a co opted version of feminism, Levy raises the question of authenticity of sex positive feminism (Levy, 63) on two levels: by selling out in terms of the body and in terms of our patriarchal culture. In order to restore a binary relationship between feminism and non feminism, Levy recasts this sex positive feminism as a new form of (fe)male chauvinism. To do so, Levy turns to the experiences of several young women whom she interviews. From her interpretations of these experiences, Levy reaches the conclusion that these women s sexual nature revolves around their need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This binary relationship manifests itself in Levy s work in another way, as well. Toward the very end of the book Levy claims she has no complaint against women who do gain genuine sexual pleasure from their vaginas waxed, their breasts enlarged (Levy, 198). On one hand, Levy recognizes that sexuality is personal and that everyone s own experiences and preferences are unique. Yet at the same time, by drawing the line between authentic and fake , she must impersonally interpret these experiences in order to classify them as problematic . This desire to judge yet not judge women s sexual nature represents an underlying tension within the book that threatens to unravel her arguments. Levy further asserts her binary comparison in a temporal manner by comparing the feminism of the past with the feminism of the present, as she claims in recent years, the term feminism has fallen further and further out of favour (Levy, 86). By framing her own views of feminism as those belonging to an earlier point in the timeline, she privileges these views as original or authentic . Yet this does not acknowledge that the anti porn wars of the 80 s was a point at which feminism branched out, rather than transitioned from one set of beliefs to another. As a result, the cultural changes that she observed occurred in the presence of both stances of feminism, making it difficult to distil the cause. Levy privileges past over present in her suggestion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Prohibition was the Time to be a Criminal in America There d never been a more advantageous time to be a criminal in America than during the 13 years of Prohibition. At a stroke, the American government closed down the fifth largest industry in the United States alcohol production and just handed it to criminals a pretty remarkable thing to do (Bill Bryson). The twenties was a fast paced fun, loving time, the one problem was no alcohol. With the twenties came the rise of jazz, flappers, different fashions, and prohibition. Jazz, flappers, and different fashions made life enjoyable but, prohibition caused the rise of criminals, who saw the demand for alcohol, and the opportunity to make money, by selling it to average people, along with government officials. Noteworthy criminals helped define the roaring twenties by helping everyday citizens break the law. To understand how this defined the decade, it is important to explore how gangsters provided alcohol to citizens, bribed police and government officials, and made criminals popular. Prohibition was a law passed whereby the manufacture, sale and transportation of alcohol was illegal, this gave gangsters and average citizens the opportunity to make easy money, if they did not get caught. The most noteworthy criminal during this time was Al Capone, in Chicago, he bribed government officials, ran bootlegging rackets, prostitution, and gambling dens. Al Capone didn t become a criminal overnight, at a young age he dropped out of school and was welcomed into the local ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Customer Centricity Background: The consumer electronics giant, Best Buy, was first established in 1966 with a single location and a staff of three in St. Paul, Minnesota, selling audio equipment targeted at 18 25 year old males. Initially Sound of Music/Best Buy grew through acquisition, expanding to nine locations in the Twin Cities area by 1978. The name, Best Buy, and expanded product line, ranging from audio and video equipment to large appliances, were a result of a best buy sale of damaged inventory at bargain prices in 1981. Best Buy had a history of being able to adapt to the changing markets and their ability to do so contributed to their success (i.e. the vastly expanded product line, evolution to superstores, expansion, acquisition, converting from commission to salaried sales force.). The perception that customers were focusing less on the technical aspect of products and redirecting their attention to service and support, led to Anderson s custom centricity initiative. This transition and the rollout of 144 new centricity Best Buy stores was being blamed for the company missing third quarter earnings in 2005, resulting in a 12% decline in stock value and a loss of nearly $2B in market capitalization. Did Anderson perform the proper strategic market planning analysis before selecting and implementing the centricity initiative? Assess the need for a change in Best Buy s strategy when Brand Anderson became CEO. If the centricity concept is being blamed for not meeting earnings and the decline in Best Buy s stock price and market capitalization, the question becomes was there a need for this change to the company s strategy, was the strategy poorly implemented, was there a delayed market response to the change, or was the launch an overly aggressive action of a newly appointed CEO? The Best Buy leadership team first needed to evaluate whether there truly was a need for a (drastic) change and if so, was centricity the appropriate response to the market. ... • 7. Red’s Redemption- Shawshank Redemption The Shawshank Redemption follows the lives of Ellis Red Redding and Andy Dufresne and their twenty year stint at the Shawshank State Penitentiary. Red (a guilty man) is serving a life sentence for murder, Andy (an innocent man) is serving consecutive life sentences for the murder of his wife and her lover. Throughout the film, Red and Andy form an unlikely friendship that transcends age, race, and class boundaries that ultimately leads to Red s spiritual redemption and freedom. The film is set up for a classic white and black pairing with a magical negro narrative, however, The Shawshank Redemption subverts expectations. Red defies the cinema stereotype of the mystical black man or the Magical Negro because he is portrayed with dignity, because he is the main character and everyman, because he is not extraordinarily wise or supernatural (though he does give advice, it is not his only or main role in the text), and he survives the film having learned a lesson from a white character. This denunciation is significant because it is a rejection of common black/white race relation stereotypes, and because it is a landmark replacement of negative stereotypes with positive realisms in cinema. Celebrated director Spike Lee coined the term at a Yale conference during which he addressed race relations in modern film (Gonzales). This stereotype focuses on a character who the audience identifies as black. This (often supporting) character seems sensible and habitually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is all about of all the ideas of female and male that are in a certain place at a certain time and all the values as regards who decides what, who does what, and how we feel ourselves and one another, mutually and independently. For this reason, there are too many gender researchers that study how we construct our life (for example, how we think, feel, interpret, etc.). Researches who came up with some theories about gender development, and we will be explaining them in this essay. According to the book Gendered lives by Julia T. Wood, a theory is a way to describe, explain, and predict relationships among phenomena. She also explains that each of us uses theories to make sense of our live, to guide our attitudes and actions, and to predict other s behavior (Julia T Wood, 37). With this intention, researches came up with four classifications of gender development and behaviors theories: biological, interpersonal, cultural and critical. Biological theories of gender maintain that biological characteristics such as chromosomes, hormonal activities and brain specialization account for gender differences (Julia T. Wood, 38). In other words, gender is determined by chromosomes and hormones. In fact, hormonal activity plays a big roll in gender development. For example, there is a study made by Quadango et al. Although my current work does not transcend the boundaries of Canada, I think as national boundaries become less significant to information products that making culturally sensitive eLearning environments will become more prevalent. Introduction: The introduction is clearly presented and balances well the preamble of eLearning in Germany and in China, to center on what are the needs of eLearning as an exported product. Specifically this study s focus is whether culture is a barrier faced by eLearning products made in a western culture being exported to another culture. As an education product, eLearning faces deep grooves of ingrained learning methods that have underlying cultural significance. Gerard Sloyan states, Jesus of Nazareth in Galilee died on the cross at the hands of Roman justice, hundreds of thousands were subjected to the cruel punishment before and after Him. The Romans preferred, those sentenced to crucifixion, be beaten, flogged, and tortured before their death upon the cross. It weakened the victims to such a degree that their time on the cross was shortened. (Sloyan 17). There has been some debate over the years as to whether the Romans used rope or nails to affix victims of crucifixion to the cross, however evidence has been found prove nails are used. In the 1960 s archaeologists in Jerusalem found remains of around three dozen Jews, who had died during an uprising against Rome in A.D. 70. The remains of one victim, was found with a seven inch nail still piercing the feet, with remains of olive wood from the cross still attached. (Strobel 200 201). This discovery confirmed biblical connects to the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The medical evidence, though Jesus died long before modern medicine, is still there to support the facts, that there is no way Jesus could have survived the cross. Even before Jesus made it the cross, there is evidence Jesus suffered and was tortured before his death. The Jesus was preparing for his mind for the torture that was to come in the following days, so he was naturally experiencing a great deal of psychological stress. (Strobel 194). The perception of the trinity has shaped controversy by finding a solution from a reliable origin. Deliberation on the true entity of God is unavoidable and contrasting opinions emerge by human endeavor. Debate on the trinity largely was derived by disagreement on the concepts ousia (common essence) and hypostasis (substance). These concepts became distinctive by The Cappadocian Fathers: Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa, and Gregory of Nazianzus. Repercussions In Education The United States is no longer the leader in education standards and in fact is no longer even making the top ten when it comes to reading, math, and science literacy rankings among the world for education (Learning Curve, 8). The repercussions are that college graduates are not as competitive globally as they once were and obtaining desired careers are more competitive than ever, having an ultimate result of slowing down the economy. Due to these conditions, education reform needs to be dealt with immediately as it will take years of implementation before any positive results are actually achieved. Parents that have spoken out risk upsetting a teacher that will be looking after their child for the rest of the year, many teachers express the opinion that parents are not qualified to help their children as they have not had pedagogy training. Parents need to be allowed to voice opinions and concerns when it comes to their children s well being without fear of repercussions. There are numerous ways that parents should become involved in education reform. In New York City, parents withheld their children from participating in standardized testing; proclaiming that too much time was spent on training for the tests and not enough time and faith was given to the teachers to teach according to their best judgement and training. Instead of waiting on politicians to lead the change in education reform parents need to start change themselves on a local level by participating heavily in the schools that their children attend. Getting to know the teachers and administration allows parents to have a voice about concerns and problems that they witness firsthand as well as being active voters for members of the school board. Not unlike many European countries, South Africa has a history dating back to the 1600 s that is rooted in crimes against humanity. It was a combination of Vietnam s strong sense of nationalism, strong leadership led by Ho Chi Minh and Vo Nguyen Giap, the Viet Minh s strengths and military tactics and the weaknesses of the French which would contribute to the Viet Minh victory at Dien Bien Phu. Vietnam s strong sense of nationalism was a major contributor why Vietnam was able to defeat the French in Indochina. Nationalism united the majority of Vietnam in the quest for independence. The battle of Dien Bien Phu was significant in the first Indochina war as the defeat here led to the surrender of the French on the 7th may 1954. In the battle of Dien Bien Phu General Vo Nguyen Giap was lured here by the French in an attempt to fight the Viet Minh in open battle, as the French General Navarre believe his superior weapons and his troops would successfully defend the area and seriously weaken the Viet Minh. • 30. Emily Dickinson Paradox Emily Dickinson was born on December 10, 1830, and died on May 15, 1886. During these 55 years, she wrote nearly 1,800 poems. Very few of these poems were published during her life, most of them only being discovered by her sister after Dickinson s death (Crash Course). Nearly all of her poems are highly complex, either having allegorical qualities or contradicting themselves. In fact, Dickinson s poetry was so contradictory that she has been regarded as the poet of paradox . Growing up, the poet claimed to be haunted by the menace of death (Crash Course) and therefore wrote many poems about death, immortality, and time. She also wrote a lot about religion, often going back and forth between theism and atheism. She also wrote often about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dickinson was obsessed with the concept of death. While this probably was a consequence of her poor mental health, it allowed her to imagine death in many different ways. For example in her arguably most famous poem Because I could not stop for Death she sees Death as a suitor, taking her away as his bride. Another notable example is in I heard a Fly buzz when I died : There interposed a Fly with Blue uncertain stumbling Buzz (Dickinson). In this poem there are two interpretations of who this fly could represent: God or Death. No matter who the fly represents, however, they still serve the same purpose: to guide the narrator into a peaceful death. Another common theme in Dickinson s poems regarding death is the value of sight. To Dickinson, sight often is an allegory for observation or life. For example, in I heard a Fly buzz when I died the last stanza discusses the narrator looses sight. Between the light and me And then the Windows failed and then I could not see to see (Dickinson). In this stanza, the narrator discusses how the fly gets between them and their line of sight. • 31. The Pardoner Of Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales Hypocrisy is a common attribute attributed to many of Chaucer s religious characters in The Canterbury Tales. They are greedy, drunks, and people without a moral code. In The Pardoner s Tale this theme is exemplified. The Pardoner is greedy and drunk. Matthew 19:24 (ESV) says, Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God. Despite this, the Pardoner s only goal is to scam as many people as he can with his pardoning of sins. The Pardoner would pretend to have objects blessed by the Vatican and sell them to people as an indulgence for future sins. It is doubtful that any of his objects had even been to Rome. Therefore, when the Pardoner starts his tale, it is one full of hypocrisy and deceit. Arguably, Chaucer s grievance was not specific to the Pardoner. Rather, Chaucer used this character to make a wider point about the corruption of religion during the fourteenth century. During Chaucer s life, the fourteenth century, it was a common belief that outward physical attribute represents the personal attributes such as one s moral code and vices. Chaucer s first description of the Pardoner s appearance says, This pardoner hadde heer as yelow as wex. / But smothe it heeng as dooth a strike of flex; / By ounces henge his lokkes that he hadde[.] The Pardoner had thin, stringy yellow hair. • 35. Female Sexuality Within Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre Charlotte Brontë s Jane Eyre sets a strong example of female sexuality in the Victorian era. The title character confronts herself with her feelings for Mr. Rochester and her growing throughout the novel. She eventually finds the courage to embrace herself as she is. Jane s independent mind and nature contradict the grain of Victorian society. She defies historical notions of female sexuality and Victorian codes and rules on sexuality. Brontë reimagines the Victorian notion of marriage as she emphasizes Jane s education and female work. The Introduction of 1983 s The Woman Question Vol. 2 states, Almost any public statement bearing on the Woman Question whether an essay, a review, a novel, a poem, a lecture, a cartoon, or a painting was likely to generate a chain of responses, and to be read as a response to prior statements in an ongoing public discussion (Helsinger xi). This quote conveys the message of Victorian times and their grasp on femininity. Many people, like Charlotte Brontë, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and John Stuart Mill, disagreed with common conceptions and advocated for women s beliefs. Others, like those belonging to the True Womanhood Cult, were motivated, less by chauvinism than by deep needs and genuine concern (57). Self sacrifice and a submissive role were expected virtues of femininity. Physicians and scientists also introduced a single minded approach to women s sexuality and behavioral nature. This week s readings were really a mix of different things, but it was a more behind the scenes look at what happens on a farm. I found it all very interesting, as I have this entire book, because often times I do not know what all goes into farming and it was interesting to see how it traveled from Polyface Farms to the market to a meal. On the contrary, the U.S. Department of Agriculture believes in fence to fence sowing, so there are really no trees. Pollan points out that this type of agriculture has many problems and many of these lead to disease. Unfortunately, this agriculture has been stripped of its wisdom and intelligence. Even Salatin points out that rural schools encourage the smarter ones to go to college and the low scoring students stay behind to help on the farm. Basically, it s a foolish culture that entrusts its food supply to simpletons (Pollan 221). Coming from a rural school, I see this being true, but I also have to disagree with Salatin because they may not be the smartest, but they sure do know a lot about corn. The second section to be reviewed is chapter thirteen. In this chapter, Pollan sees how Salatin sells his food and how it compares to other supermarkets. Compared to other supermarkets, Polyface Farm s food is more expensive; however, Salatin argues that it is actually, if fact, cheaper. He believes that because it is produced without subsidies and it is more sustainable compared to industrial food. Consumers also have a reason for choosing Salatin s food over other supermarkets. They believe that his chicken tastes better and would rather pay for quality, which it seems many people do not want to do today. Society today seems to almost discourage reflection, as it demands a full cycle of work and consumption. Socrates believed that a person s job in life is to grow both personally and spiritually. Without growth of the human soul, a person is not able to reach the pure serenity of the examined life. Socrates understood wisdom to be one of the most important virtues a person could possess. Seeking true wisdom entails questioning with logical argument, not just accepting things for what they are worth. Contrary to Socrates, Ivan Ilyich lived a life full of social status and in constant desire for wealth, two qualities he presumed would give him a life of abundance and happiness. In order to truly live the examined life, one has to incorporate virtue, care of the soul, and critical thinking. Although money and power are connected to excellence, the true excellence for the soul is virtue. One of the most important parts of the examined life is virtue. If Socrates were to critique this part of Ivan s life, he would find many components of Ivan s life that are lacking excellent virtues, an aspect of the unexamined life.
