Moonlight Character Analysis
In the film Moonlight, Mahershala Ali plays a drug dealer who acts as a father figure to a homosexual,
African American boy. Ali is not an A list actor, but his talent as an actor is widely recognized and
acknowledged. Although he cannot be considered a star, he can be classified as an actor because he is
professionally trained and has indisputable talent. He is known to play very tough and intimidating
characters who are not to be trifled with. Ali s acting style can be classified as representational
because his gestures and expressions come so naturally, as if he could easily relate to the characters
that he plays. In some of his past roles, Ali has played the parts of a soldier and a crime lord, which
shows how he usually plays gritty and fearless characters. In many of these roles, Ali s character is not
very talkative, but he is well respected and his words hold a great deal of weight. People who have
seen some of Ali s other films and television shows would expect nothing less than a bold and
uncompromising performance. Ali s performance in Moonlight does not disappoint because he
embraces his reputation as an actor that plays characters with a quiet, yet heavy presence. He also
draws upon his experiences in previous roles to exceed the high expectations set for him. His character
in Moonlight, Juan, is a respected and successful drug dealer. Ali is a perfect fit for this role because
of his masculine characteristics and features, all of which help to give Juan a macho persona. Ali can
create this sense of masculinity not only through his appearance, but also through his behavior. Since
Ali is very tall, toned, and dark skinned which establishes his character s dominating and imposing
presence. In the film, Juan is oftentimes wearing a durag, earrings, and a tank top which fits the
stereotype of an alpha African American male. He is also casually smoking a cigarette in many scenes,
further adding to his confident and well poised persona. Ali s behavior and composure complement his
physical appearance as well. For example, throughout the film, Juan walks around with an aura of
confidence, and it is clear that the people he talks to have great respect for him. He is also an
observant person, constantly

Shakespeare’s King Lear Essay
Multiple Viewpoints of Shakespeare s King Lear
Shakespeare s King Lear is a tragic about an aging King of Britain and his three daughters. When it
comes time to divide his kingdom, he puts his daughters through a test to prove how much they love
him. The two older daughters, Goneril and Regan, give King Lear flattering answers and therefore
receive great amounts of finer land. The third and youngest daughter, Cordilia, says that she has no
words to describe how much she loves her father. King Lear becomes enraged with Cordilia and
disowns her and gives her no land. The rest of the play tells the story of how the two older daughters
become corrupt and get greedy. King Leer is thrown out of his own house by his daughters and begins

Marcia Gay Harden was also nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Miniseries or a
Motion Picture Made for Television (IMDB np). The movie itself won the Bronze Wrangler Award in
the Western Heritage Awards for Television Feature Film. King of Texas also was presented the Spur
Award by Western Writers of America for the best drama script (IMDB np).
King of Texas is a movie based on the same story line as King Leer. The movie is a western version of
King Leer and catered to a younger audience. King of Texas is based in Texas when Texas was an
independent country. John Leer, played by Patrick Stewart, is a man who owns a large ranch in Texas.
Instead of being rivals with the French his main competition is a Mexican ranch owner to his south.
Leer has three daughters, Suzannah, Rebecca, and Claudia, and wants to break up his land between
them before he dies. He gives each daughter a chance to tell him how much they love him. When the
two older daughters give him flattering answers he in return gives them large portions of his ranch.
When his youngest daughter says she can not explain to him how much she loves him, Leer becomes
enraged and disowns her. This is the same as when King Leer breaks up his kingdom in Britain.
The technical aspect of the movie matches the story well. The site where the movie was shot gives the
impression that Leer s ranch is the largest and most important in Texas. It makes Leer seem as if he
may actually be the king

Analysis Of James Joyce s Dubliners
Point of view (the perspective from which a story is told) has a significant role in how the characters
and events in a given story are analyzed. The readers response to the literature depends greatly on the
position of the author and/or narrator; whether he is on the outside looking in, or vise versa. The use of
point of view also allows the author to convey a certain message or belief by allowing for other
literary elements such as irony and sympathy . The point of view in literature is one of the central
focuses for interpretation. Dubliners, by James Joyce is an outstanding example of how the use of
point of view influences how characters and events are interpreted. Joyce writes the first three stories
of Dubliners in the first person point of view, the rest are told in there person. Taking a look at a few
of the short stories , Araby , Eveline , and Clay , it is obvious that Joyce s choice of narration as well
as the complexity of how he carries out those narrations plays a significant role in the analysis of his
work.
Araby is told in first person, from the point of view of the protagonist. Despite the first person
narration in Araby , Joyce does little to convince readers that the story is told from a boy s perspective.
On the contrary, actually, the narrator seemingly has the maturity of a man certainly beyond the
experience of the narrator of the story. Joyce s way of narrating this story gives readers the ability to
clearly identify the distress that

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a program that was...
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a program that was set in place, in 1975, to improve the
economic status of low income persons [...] granting nearly $40 billion to low income households
(Borjas, 59). As is clear from the name of the program, The EITC is a program that provides tax
credits to those who qualify, the EITC could even produce a negative tax liability for some
households, in particular the type I will discuss, which would provide substantial income increases for
these households. In order to qualify for the EITC, the recipients must be active members of the labor
force, in that they must have labor income, and for the group that I will be focusing on, single
mothers, total household income must be below $33,241 for single ... Show more content on

I will look at the performance of the Earned Income Tax Credit, in terms of its ability to increase the
labor supply of single mothers, as well as any complications that may arise from the EITC program.
(Athreya, 2012) The benefits of the Earned Income Tax Credit for single mothers have been outlined
by numerous studies written by renowned Economists, such as Bruce D. Meyer and Dan T.
Rosenbaum of the University of Chicago and the University of North Carolina at Greensburg
respectively. The article by Meyer and Rosenbaum, Welfare, The Earned Income Tax Credit, and The
Labor Supply of Single Mothers, contains the data and statistics that I will use as the basis of my
analysis and where I will draw the bulk of my conclusions on the benefits and drawbacks of the
Earned Income Tax Credit on the labor supply of single mothers. Meyer s and Rosenbaum s research
is extremely significant to the particular topic that I am outlining as it uses data collected from a well
known survey and furthermore, looks specifically at the groups that are of particular interest of my
research.
Meyer and Rosenbaum collected their data from the Current Population Surveys (CPS) from 1984 to
1996. Once the data was collected the relevant data was extracted, namely the data corresponding to

Whale Rider Film Analysis
In the film Whale Rider , by Niki Caro which follows the journey of a young girl named Paikea
Apirana and her struggle for acceptance as a leader of her Māori iwi, and especially her grandfather.
An important character in this film is Pai herself. This character has significant importance as she is
used to portray numerous important ideas and themes throughout the film. Pai helps me to understand
and appreciate that women can also be leaders that are equal to men if they have the right attributes.
The director Niki Caro uses numerous different film techniques to convey this idea, such as; the
camera shots and camera angles when Pai is giving her speech to Koro, the use of camera angles and
props in relation to the dialogue when Pai if fixing the motorboat engine, and the use of props when
Pai is teaching herself to use the Taiaha. The use of camera shots and camera angles while she is
giving her speech to Koro, helps to show Pai s important attributes which are necessary for a good
leader. One of these shots is the low angle while Pai is giving her speech. Low angles are often used to
give the focus object or person a feeling or respect, even if Pai is crying, which shows that Pai is
respected by the community. As she is crying during this scene, and the director still chooses to use a
low angle, consequently, this shows that she is a strong, powerful, and resilient figure, which are
especially important attributes of a leader.
Additionally, in this scene is a wide shot down the aisle of the hall, with Pai in the middle, and framed
by the audience. Furthermore, this exhibits that the community supports Pai, even at her weakest and
most fragile, while she is in tears on the stage. The support of a community is an important attribute
for a leader to have, due to the importance of leadership is not just being one person, and is also the
whole community. The camera shots and camera angles helped the audience as well as myself to
understand the importance of Pai and helped myself and the audience understand and appreciate Niki
Caro s idea that women can also be leaders that can be equal to men if they have the right attributes

Identify The Four Major Landforms Of Europe
3. Identify the four main physical landforms of Europe. What are the main features of each? The four
major landforms of Europe include the Western Uplands, North European Plain, Central Uplands and
Alpine Mountains. These landforms are primarily arranged in bands that run from east to west. Each
landform provides a biodiversity and resources for humans. The Western Uplands are formed of
ancient rock that has been shaped by glaciation and shapes the north and west coastline of Europe. It
includes Spain, French Brittany, Scandinavia, and the British Isles. The North European Plain is low
and fertile and has rivers. It goes from southern Britain through the middle of Europe to Russia. The
Central Uplands are mostly wooded hills and highlands in France, Belgium, southern Germany, and
the Czech Republic. The Alpine Mountains have high mountain peaks and active volcanoes that run
from northern Spain across southern Europe to the Caucasus in Russia. The High Alps range from
eastern France to Slovenia and are central to the Alpine region. Mountains act as a natural dividing
range and can also isolate people and separate cultural groups. The Central Uplands is the area
bordering the main Alps to the north, which includes a significant portion of southern Germany
extending eastward. These foothills provide excellent farmland, and there are major agricultural
operations here. Western Highlands offer an area for grazing livestock and farming in the meadows
and valleys. The Scottish

The American Dream
When people come to America, they come because the want to live the American dream. But what
actually is the American dream? Does it truly exist? When one thinks of the American dream they
instantly think of the Declaration of Independence because they too also believe that all men are
created equal but also believe in the beauty of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. United States
citizens as well as immigrants, believed in what the declaration had said and that it would push them
closer to an experience of the American dream. Though people are excited to move towards a better
life, they become a bit hesitant because they do not know exactly what the American dream is, nor do
they know if all people are granted the same chance towards the American dream due to their age,
race, their social status, traditions and any other factors. John Adams once stated that this American
dream we speak of should give a better life to everyone but only according to their ability. To me this
means that everyone deserves a better life but we cannot just give you everything, you have to show
what you can do, and how far your American dream goes depends on you, your ability, and how hard
you are willing to work. Though your American dream is based upon your ability being African
American holds you back, though you have the ability to do great things you will not get the same
opportunity due to race. Even today

Diagnosis and Treatment of Borderline Personality...
The diagnostic process for personality disorders currently covers a broad scope of various tests and
symptoms, causing a source of frustration for psychiatrists (Aldhous). The symptoms and side effects
of several personality disorders can tend to blur together, making diagnosis challenging (Aldhous).
Most psychiatric patients are diagnosed with several personality disorders at once, with twenty percent
of people with personality disorders simply diagnosed with a personality disorder not otherwise
specified (Aldhous). Using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders,
commonly referred to as the DSM, psychiatrists attempt with great difficulty to categorize their
patients into a specific disorder, only to diagnose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though several personality disorders are highly complex and a challenge to treat, there are effective
treatments available ( Treating Borderline 1). The various treatments are broken down by method, the
first of which being cognitive behavioral therapy, which attempts to alter the conscious thoughts and
behavioral patterns of patients (Daniel); ( Treating Borderline 2). Cognitive behavior therapy itself is
broken down into two therapies, dialectical behavioral therapy and schema focused therapy ( Treating
Borderline 2). Dialectical behavioral therapy, developed by Dr. Linehan, is centered on the basis that
personality disorders are formed when hypersensitive patients are in situations which lack the
emotional support they require, therefore leading to their inability to regulate emotions ( Treating
Borderline 2). Thus, the treatment serves to help the patient gain control over their emotion and
behavior ( Treating Borderline 2). The treatment itself consists of group and individual sessions and
typically lasts approximately one year ( Treating Borderline 2). During the group sessions, patients
learn to become more aware of their behaviors and emotions through sessions pertaining to problem
solving, mindfulness meditation, and breath training ( Treating Borderline 2). In personal sessions,
referred to as psychotherapy, the psychiatrist explains to the patient how the lessons from the group
therapy sessions are applicable

Gulag Prisons
Prisoners in the labor camp slaved away at construction, building a majority of the Soviet Union s
economic infrastructure. The prisoners who lived in the Gulag produced miles of railroads to canals,
working tremendously, Gulag prisoners constructed the White Sea Baltic Canal, the Moscow Volga
Canal, the Baikal Amur main railroad line, numerous hydroelectric stations, and strategic roads and
industrial enterprises in remote regions (The Gulag 1). This provides representations of what
structures the prisoners were involved in building. It s worth knowing that these prisoners contributed
enormous amounts for the Soviet Union. Without the labor camps filled with prisoners to do the hard
work, the Soviet Union would not have made progress as quickly as it did. In the article The Gulag ...

The camps strength was also put towards agriculture and commodities such as mining and lumbering
(The Gulag 1). The proposal of prisoners being used for something other than construction is
significant because it demonstrates the other portion of economic infrastructure they produced for the
Soviets. The production of these assets granted the labor camp superiors to not constitute it
themselves, which is why the prisoners became such an imperative resource. Overall, the outcome of
the task guided the Soviet Union to rely on their strength in numbers.
During the peak of corrective labor colonies , each camp held around 2,000 10,000 inmates and
consisted of people arrested at collectivization, anyone who opposed the Communist party, and many
innocent victims who never committed any crimes (Gulag 1). The number of prisoners working in
forced labor camps was extensive and continued to grow for many years, The Gulag had a total inmate
population of about 100,000 in the late 1920s when it underwent an enormous expansion coinciding
with the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin s collectivization of agriculture. By 1936

Basic Principles in Verbal and Non Verbal Communication
Basic Principle in verbal and non verbal Communication
One of the most important skills of a leader in a company is that he or she knows how to communicate
well. Communication skills are essential in today s competitive environment, and a company with
good communication flow will achieve advantages such as stronger business relationships, increased
productivity and quicker problem solving.
The characteristics of an effective message is that it provides the practical information the receiver

The researchers recommended that the medical members, having now recognized the problem, make

protection, the experience would be validated and depersonalized, and female doctors would be helped
to overcome their vulnerability. The opportunity to view sexual harassment as an abuse of power,
rather than an incident provoked by a victim s inappropriate dress or comments, may clarify the
confusion felt by respondents over the causes of harassment and their responses to it (Phillips and
Schneider, 1993). In my own personal opinion, the researchers recommendations focusing on the

The Jim Crow Laws In The Black By Richard Wright
In order to grasp a better understanding of the author s craft, the student includes a portion of the
author s background. This may enable the student to further acknowledge the author s purpose
throughout the essay. Richard Wright was born on September 4, 1908 in Roxie, Mississippi and from
the moment he was born, his life consisted of various struggles. He came to a world that refused to
accept him on the basis of his skin color. Growing up African American ( Black ) was already hard
enough, but growing up Black and in the South was practically a death sentence. Americans were
strictly enforcing the Jim Crow Laws in the South and the Jim Crow Laws created a barrier between
the Blacks and the Whites (Caucasian). These laws were instituted by Southerners after the Civil War
because the southern lawmakers were unhappy that they had lost the war and did not want slavery to
completely end. The Whites refused to see Blacks as socially equal. The Jim Crow Laws made Blacks
inferior to the Whites in every situation. Therefore, any relationship between the Blacks and the
Whites that purposed the slightest amount of equality among them, would not be tolerated and was
punishable by law. For instance, a Black man could never offer to shake hands with a White male
because it challenged the social equality between them. Additionally, a Black person could not eat
with a White person, if this is the case, there would be a physical barrier between them. Wright s

Examples Of Imperialism In Cry The Beloved Country
The most compelling story of fighting flagrant oppression and injustice occurred during the twentieth
century in South Africa. The symbol of Nelson Mandela being released from prison in the late nineties
after decades of confinement represents the roaring social prejudice, and on an even more prominent
scale, the economic discrimination of the native South African people during the apartheid era. The
social and economic hierarchy of South Africa, one which placed blacks at the bottom, traces back to
the colonization period of the country. As a time of warfare which exacerbated a widely held sense of
divine entitlement, the colonization era provided the Dutch and English settlers with the power to
claim South Africa for the country s location and resources in order to assert their global dominance.
The desire to remain an international influence resulted in the settlers implementing several different
systems of oppression, some of which still have lasting effects in South Africa, even in the present
day. The identity of South Africa eroded as the Europeans remained in the country. Mainly through the
Anglo Boer Wars, the sense of unity and culture held by Africans was dismantled as Europeans
continued to encroach onto South African soil and separate themselves from black Africans to portray
their culture as the international authority.
In the novel Cry, The Beloved Country, the main character, Stephen Kumalo, alludes to a once united
tribe of African people before the

The Violation Of Human Rights Equality
Imagine being in another persons shoes that may not have it as easy as others. Some people do not get
the same respect as others just because of the way they look. This is an example of a human rights
violation. An human right violation is when a right is being abused in such a way that it effects how
some people live their life. It is hard to even think about that this is going on in American today. It is a
big problem in today s society, and many are speaking out about it. This human rights violation is the
result of racial inequality in America, and many are trying to stop it by protesting, starting movements,
and kneeling of the national anthem.
Many people have freedom, which comes with rights. Some important rights in the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights that relate to Racial inequality are articles two and three. Article two
states, Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedom set forth in this declaration, without
distinction of any kind, such as race... (Library). This shows that everyone of any color has the same
rights as others. This human right is being violated because many people of color are not being treated
equally. Another human rights article that is being violated is article three. This human right is being
violated because [e]veryone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person, but people of other
races are not treated like they have these rights (Library). People of color are starting to stand up to

Calvinism In The Movie The Last Of The Mohicans
The Last of the Mohicans is a 1992 movie, based in the late 1750s, during the French and Indian war.
The French army is attacking Fort William Henry, a British outpost commanded by Colonel Munro.
When Munro s daughters Alice and Cora wish to visit their father, they are escorted by Major Duncan
Heyward and a Native American called Magua. Eventually joined by David Gamut, a follower of
Calvinism. The group encounters the white scout Natty Bumppo, who goes by Hawkeye, along with
Native Americans Chingachgook and Uncas, Chingachogook s son. They are last members of a dying
Native American tribe, the Mohicans. Hawkeye says that Magua is lying and has led the group in the
wrong direction, and he escapes. Magua and more Hurons attack the next morning and captures the
group, while the Mohicans escape down the river. Magua wants revenge on Munro and proposed to
free Alice if Cora marries him. Cora, however had romantic feelings for Uncas and refuses. The
Mohicans than rescues the group and kill the Hurons except Magua, who escapes again. Eventually
they make it to Fort William Henry, where Cora and Alice are reunited with their father. After a few
days during the withdrawal of the troops, Magua is able to recapture Cora, Alice, and Gamut. Three
days later, Heyward, Hawkeye, Munro, and the Mohicans began to track them down. Gamut explains
that Magua sent Alice to a Huron camp and Cora to Delaware. The group eventually rescues Alice. A

Standard Deduction
Introduction
Standard deduction is a provision of the United States federal income tax system, which serves two
purposes including a least amount amount of untaxed income, thus acting as an ingredient of
progressivity. Second, it provides a simplified alternative to the itemized deductions for tax payers
with comparatively low itemizable expenses, thus relieving them of the record keeping and
computational burden of itemizing deductions. Having one provision is a compromise to other but it is
a compromise that is unnecessary. (Samansky, 1991)
A base sum of income that is not focused to tax and that can be used to decrease a taxpayer s adjusted
gross income (AGI), a standard deduction can only be used if the taxpayer does not prefer the
itemized deduction method of calculating taxable income. The sum of the standard deduction is based
on a taxpayer s filing status, age and whether he or she is disabled or claimed as a reliant on another
person s tax return.
The major reason taxpayers exercise standard instead of itemized deductions is that taxpayers don t
have to keep track of every potential tax deductible expense throughout the year. Plus, a lot of people
find the standard deduction amount to be fairly generous and usually greater than the total they could
reach if they added up all of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People often overlook or fail to record allowable tax deductions and keep their approach only for the
standard amount specified by the IRS. For instance, homeowners often pay more interest and real
estate tax than the standard deduction permits. Also, small business owners who have a running home
office often can incur additional tax deductions higher than the standard amount. Taxpayers must keep
accurate records along with actual receipts to itemize deductions. Failure to do this makes the standard
deduction a advantage but also may cost you a lot of money in tax

The remarkable differences between the trait and behavioural theory are that the last one emphasises
on both the accomplishment of the task as the main indications for the leader success, and employees
satisfaction,
Situational leadership: According to this theory, the effectiveness of the leader is significantly
correlated with situational factors which restrict the performance of the leader positively or negatively.
In other words, the efficiency of leader s skills or traits are determined by the situation in which
leaders exercise leadership (Dessler,1976), These factors are:
Follower s contributions.
The availability and the utilization of the resources.
However, creating the harmonisation and the collaboration between the situational factors and the
leader are essential to determine leader s effectiveness.
Contingency Theories: basically, the assumption of this theory, that the behaviour of the leader can not
be standardised, instead, the leader should consider situational factors. The success of the leader in this
theory is measured by the ability of leader to adopt such a style to achieve certain task with a
consideration to the followers.
This theory was the beginning of new view of leadership; based on this assumption other contingency
theories were emerged such as, Fiedler s concept of situational favourability (1967), which

Essay about Coral Reefs
Coral reefs have been undergoing global degradation due to increasing natural and anthropogenic
impacts for at least the last half century. The intensity and frequency of stressors, including global
climate change, have rapidly increased in number over recent years (Hughes Connell 1999; Hoegh
Guldberg et al. 2007; Pandolfi et al. 2011). Frequent disturbances such as hurricanes/cyclones,
predation outbreaks, diseases and mass bleaching events eat away at the percent of living coral cover
and without recovery, the available space is colonized by sponges, soft corals, and macroalgae. These
alternative organisms are often competitive dominants in less than ideal conditions (Norström et al.
2009). The transition is termed a phase shift from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1993; Lirman 2001; Box Mumby 2007), increased localized sedimentation (Nugues Roberts 2003),
interfering with the settlement of coral larvae through space preemption and/or biofilm production
(Birrell et al. 2005; Birrell et al. 2008; Box Mumby 2007; Vermeij et al. 2009), and allelopathy or
chemically mediated competition (deNys et al. 1991, Morrow et al. 2011). Macroalgae can cause
physical stress (Quan Young Espinoza Avalos 2006) decreased photosynthetic abilities (Titlyanov et
al. 2007), reduced fecundity (Foster et al. 2008), and harbor potential coral pathogens (Nugues et al.
2004). The ability of macroalgae to competitively damage stony corals also depends on the species of
macroalgae (Maypa Raymundo 2004; Birrell et al. 2008), and other compounding factors such as
irradiance, sedimentation, dissolved nutrients, and level of herbivory on the reef.
Over the past several decades the incidence of coral disease has increased, with striking correlation to
increasing macroalgal cover (Goreau et al. 1998; Harvell et al. 1999; Harvell 2004; Weil Smith 2006).
The enhanced need for disease research coupled with the massive advancements in molecular
techniques made the study of coral associated microbes more efficient and less cost prohibitive. Thus,
we have recently recognized the significant role microorganisms play in the physiology of both
healthy and diseased corals. The term holobiont was coined to describe the dynamic relationship

With the British enforcing laws that seriously hindered American expansion and trade. Great Britain
having losing their trust in the colonist, they did not respect any American leadership and or opinions.

Furthermore, one language dies every 14 days and by the end of the next century, nearly half of

Compare And Contrast Apocalypse Now And Heart Of Darkness
Darkness is a main theme in the novel Heart of Darkness . Indeed, darkness pervades the novel from
beginning to end. It can be seen in this novel literally as something being dark, the river for example,
or metaphorically having a deeper meaning, violence for instance. Furthermore, Apocalypse means the
end of the world, referred to in the bible as when the earth is demolished by fire. Although Apocalypse
Now is an adaptation of the novel, it s not 100% faithful to all its details, but Francis Ford Coppola
presented darkness as an important focal point. So, the titles embody the essence of darkness. Both

The Theory And Major Components Of Gas Chromatography
A gas chromatograph (GC) is an analytical instrument in which measures the content of a variety of
constituents within a sample. The analysis in which a gas chromatograph is operated is called gas
chromatography. Figure 1 below is a basic representation of the instrument and the following
statement is a simple representation of the overall process of a GC: It is a technique in which a sample
solution is injected into the instrument through a septum, where it introduced into a gas stream that
transports the sample into a separation tube known as a column. The assorted components of the
sample are separated within the column. After the separation has been completed within the column a
detector will quantitatively measure each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The selection of the gas is important, as each performs differently with the type of detector that is
being operated. The three most commonly selected gases for an experiment involving a gas
chromatograph are hydrogen, helium, and nitrogen. Diffusivity and viscosity are two characteristics
that will influence the performance of these gases.
The diffusion coefficient, also called diffusivity is a parameter that is indicative of the diffusion
mobility that is, it presents a mechanism for measurement for the diffusion speed of a solute s vapor in
a gas. The speed of chromatography is determined by the diffusion speed of the solute in the carrier
gas. A molecule evaporating from the stationary phase and proceeding into the stream of gas should be
capable of diffusing back into the stationary phase before having to undergo the partitioning process
again. It is this diffusion of molecules that set apart the gases. In order to obtain a good separation, the
most desired carrier gases are those that come in contact with the column a significant number of
times. There is a limit to this however, the more time that the gas is given for radial diffusion
(diffusion in the direction of the stationary phase), the more time there is for band broadening
(longitudinal diffusion). For this reason there is an optimal gas velocity, where it supplies maximum
contact with the stationary phase and minimum band broadening in the gas phase.
Figure 2: Diffusion of a molecule in the gas

Short Term Goals
Title of Your Report Tony Robbins once said goals are like magnets, they ll attract the thing that
makes them true . Goals are always needed, they help one grow in life. Having goals gives more
encouragement to someone so they can complete it. Goals can always help someone out in different
types of ways, it can be personal, academic, performance. As long as you make it a goal, it s most
likely to happen. Here are some of my own goals. There are such things as short term goals, which are
goals that can be completed within the upcoming months. These are my short term goals. In the next
year I want to keep all of my grades above a C . The purpose of this goal is to get me to keep doing
my work throughout the entire school year. This year I want to have at least decent grades when
passing, instead of barely passing. Doing extracurricular activities I think would be fun and help me
find a good college based on what I do, doing this is actually a goal of mine. These will be fun and I
hope to join the gaming and environmental science clubs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Long term goals can take a few years to accomplish. These are some of the long term goals I have

want to be in college within a couple of months of graduating. In a decade or so I want to maybe be
done with college and have a job, depending how long college take me. Find the job I want to get my
career going, this is another one of my goals. This is my goal for the future because I want to get my
degrees, be done with college, and be off on my way to getting the job I want as a game designer. I

Same Sex, Same Love
Same sex, Same love Homosexuality is the same kind of love as heterosexuality. Same sex couples
should have access to the same benefits enjoyed as any other couples since it s recognize as a human
right. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis made a song for supporters in reference to the February 2012 bill
that would legalize same sex marriage in the state(s). Same Love by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis
portray a rap song that explicitly defends same sex love by calling out hip hop s history of
homophobia and eliminate the injustice involving same sex couples. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis is
an American hip hop duo from Seattle, Washington formed in 2009. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis
teamed up with Mary Lambert, a talented poet and songwriter. This song mainly talks about a personal
story. The video, spanning decades from childhood to old age, depicts the life of the main character
and the same sex partner with whom he falls in love, including the social conflicts in their path of
being in love due to their difference because of sexual orientation. The three display through music to
show their support for civil rights and marriage equality through unapologetic discussion of the
intolerance the cause and it s supporters continue to face. Macklemore also explained that the song
came out of his own frustration with surrounding hip hop culture towards homosexuality. Since many
artists these days uses offensive words such as fag and faggot as a way to use against people they
think less of.

Human Impact On Wetlands Essay
Human Impact
Humans have had a huge impact on wetlands in multiple ways. From construction of homes to
pollution to altering chemical composition of the wetland, we have had a negative impact on our
precious wetlands. Without even noticing, our daily actions have greatly affected the ecosystem.
Statistics
In the 1600 s, there were approximately 220 million acres of wetlands in the forty eight states (Dahl
1990). Since then, the numbers have been dropping drastically. In 1980, an estimated number of 103.3
million acres of wetlands were left (Dahl and Johnson 1991). That s a 53% decrease! (See Figure 3.5)

Kentucky, and Ohio have lost about 80%. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Plaza was owned by the aggressive and ambitious Sohel Rana, who exploited his political
connections to acquire illegal permits and bribe government officials to get approval construction. He
had extra floors built without obtaining the proper permits or approval from the local government
authorities. Sohel Rana (like building owners in general) was able to take advantage of the loopholes
in the system through his ties to political allies and his wealth. Not only did he ensure that inspections
were rarely performed, but was also able to bribe officials to build on a rejected, unsuitable plot of
land, to add additional floors to the building, and to persuade workers to enter the building despite the
cracks and warnings from engineers. Also, he allegedly remarked to the media on the same day that
the cracks were a trivial matter. Rana Plaza was built after taking permission from the Savar Mayor
(who, like Rana was also an Awami League member) a person with no legal authority to issue this
permit. According to Emdadul Islam, chief engineer of the state run Capital Development Authority,
the owner of the building had permission for only a five storey building from the local municipality.
The illegal extension by a further three stories was overlooked by the authorities due to Rana s
political connections (affiliation with ruling Awami League party). Rana brought paid gang members
to beat the workers (both male and female), hitting them with sticks to force them to enter the

  • 2. Moonlight Character Analysis In the film Moonlight, Mahershala Ali plays a drug dealer who acts as a father figure to a homosexual, African American boy. Ali is not an A list actor, but his talent as an actor is widely recognized and acknowledged. Although he cannot be considered a star, he can be classified as an actor because he is professionally trained and has indisputable talent. He is known to play very tough and intimidating characters who are not to be trifled with. Ali s acting style can be classified as representational because his gestures and expressions come so naturally, as if he could easily relate to the characters that he plays. In some of his past roles, Ali has played the parts of a soldier and a crime lord, which shows how he usually plays gritty and fearless characters. In many of these roles, Ali s character is not very talkative, but he is well respected and his words hold a great deal of weight. People who have seen some of Ali s other films and television shows would expect nothing less than a bold and uncompromising performance. Ali s performance in Moonlight does not disappoint because he embraces his reputation as an actor that plays characters with a quiet, yet heavy presence. He also draws upon his experiences in previous roles to exceed the high expectations set for him. His character in Moonlight, Juan, is a respected and successful drug dealer. Ali is a perfect fit for this role because of his masculine characteristics and features, all of which help to give Juan a macho persona. Ali can create this sense of masculinity not only through his appearance, but also through his behavior. Since Ali is very tall, toned, and dark skinned which establishes his character s dominating and imposing presence. In the film, Juan is oftentimes wearing a durag, earrings, and a tank top which fits the stereotype of an alpha African American male. He is also casually smoking a cigarette in many scenes, further adding to his confident and well poised persona. Ali s behavior and composure complement his physical appearance as well. For example, throughout the film, Juan walks around with an aura of confidence, and it is clear that the people he talks to have great respect for him. He is also an observant person, constantly ... • 3. Shakespeare’s King Lear Essay Multiple Viewpoints of Shakespeare s King Lear Shakespeare s King Lear is a tragic about an aging King of Britain and his three daughters. When it comes time to divide his kingdom, he puts his daughters through a test to prove how much they love him. The two older daughters, Goneril and Regan, give King Lear flattering answers and therefore receive great amounts of finer land. The third and youngest daughter, Cordilia, says that she has no words to describe how much she loves her father. King Lear becomes enraged with Cordilia and disowns her and gives her no land. The rest of the play tells the story of how the two older daughters become corrupt and get greedy. King Leer is thrown out of his own house by his daughters and begins his ... The movie itself won the Bronze Wrangler Award in the Western Heritage Awards for Television Feature Film. King of Texas also was presented the Spur Award by Western Writers of America for the best drama script (IMDB np). King of Texas is a movie based on the same story line as King Leer. The movie is a western version of King Leer and catered to a younger audience. King of Texas is based in Texas when Texas was an independent country. John Leer, played by Patrick Stewart, is a man who owns a large ranch in Texas. Instead of being rivals with the French his main competition is a Mexican ranch owner to his south. Leer has three daughters, Suzannah, Rebecca, and Claudia, and wants to break up his land between them before he dies. He gives each daughter a chance to tell him how much they love him. When the two older daughters give him flattering answers he in return gives them large portions of his ranch. When his youngest daughter says she can not explain to him how much she loves him, Leer becomes enraged and disowns her. This is the same as when King Leer breaks up his kingdom in Britain. The technical aspect of the movie matches the story well. The site where the movie was shot gives the impression that Leer s ranch is the largest and most important in Texas. It makes Leer seem as if he may actually be the king ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of James Joyce s Dubliners Point of view (the perspective from which a story is told) has a significant role in how the characters and events in a given story are analyzed. The readers response to the literature depends greatly on the position of the author and/or narrator; whether he is on the outside looking in, or vise versa. The use of point of view also allows the author to convey a certain message or belief by allowing for other literary elements such as irony and sympathy . The point of view in literature is one of the central focuses for interpretation. Dubliners, by James Joyce is an outstanding example of how the use of point of view influences how characters and events are interpreted. Joyce writes the first three stories of Dubliners in the first person point of view, the rest are told in there person. Taking a look at a few of the short stories , Araby , Eveline , and Clay , it is obvious that Joyce s choice of narration as well as the complexity of how he carries out those narrations plays a significant role in the analysis of his work. Araby is told in first person, from the point of view of the protagonist. Despite the first person narration in Araby , Joyce does little to convince readers that the story is told from a boy s perspective. On the contrary, actually, the narrator seemingly has the maturity of a man certainly beyond the experience of the narrator of the story. Joyce s way of narrating this story gives readers the ability to clearly identify the distress that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a program that was set in place, in 1975, to improve the economic status of low income persons [...] granting nearly $40 billion to low income households (Borjas, 59). As is clear from the name of the program, The EITC is a program that provides tax credits to those who qualify, the EITC could even produce a negative tax liability for some households, in particular the type I will discuss, which would provide substantial income increases for these households. In order to qualify for the EITC, the recipients must be active members of the labor force, in that they must have labor income, and for the group that I will be focusing on, single mothers, total household income must be below $33,241 for single ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will look at the performance of the Earned Income Tax Credit, in terms of its ability to increase the labor supply of single mothers, as well as any complications that may arise from the EITC program. (Athreya, 2012) The benefits of the Earned Income Tax Credit for single mothers have been outlined by numerous studies written by renowned Economists, such as Bruce D. Meyer and Dan T. Rosenbaum of the University of Chicago and the University of North Carolina at Greensburg respectively. The article by Meyer and Rosenbaum, Welfare, The Earned Income Tax Credit, and The Labor Supply of Single Mothers, contains the data and statistics that I will use as the basis of my analysis and where I will draw the bulk of my conclusions on the benefits and drawbacks of the Earned Income Tax Credit on the labor supply of single mothers. Meyer s and Rosenbaum s research is extremely significant to the particular topic that I am outlining as it uses data collected from a well known survey and furthermore, looks specifically at the groups that are of particular interest of my research. Meyer and Rosenbaum collected their data from the Current Population Surveys (CPS) from 1984 to 1996. • 6. Whale Rider Film Analysis In the film Whale Rider , by Niki Caro which follows the journey of a young girl named Paikea Apirana and her struggle for acceptance as a leader of her Māori iwi, and especially her grandfather. An important character in this film is Pai herself. This character has significant importance as she is used to portray numerous important ideas and themes throughout the film. Pai helps me to understand and appreciate that women can also be leaders that are equal to men if they have the right attributes. The director Niki Caro uses numerous different film techniques to convey this idea, such as; the camera shots and camera angles when Pai is giving her speech to Koro, the use of camera angles and props in relation to the dialogue when Pai if fixing the motorboat engine, and the use of props when Pai is teaching herself to use the Taiaha. The use of camera shots and camera angles while she is giving her speech to Koro, helps to show Pai s important attributes which are necessary for a good leader. One of these shots is the low angle while Pai is giving her speech. Low angles are often used to give the focus object or person a feeling or respect, even if Pai is crying, which shows that Pai is respected by the community. As she is crying during this scene, and the director still chooses to use a low angle, consequently, this shows that she is a strong, powerful, and resilient figure, which are especially important attributes of a leader. Additionally, in this scene is a wide shot down the aisle of the hall, with Pai in the middle, and framed by the audience. Furthermore, this exhibits that the community supports Pai, even at her weakest and most fragile, while she is in tears on the stage. The support of a community is an important attribute for a leader to have, due to the importance of leadership is not just being one person, and is also the whole community. The camera shots and camera angles helped the audience as well as myself to understand the importance of Pai and helped myself and the audience understand and appreciate Niki Caro s idea that women can also be leaders that can be equal to men if they have the right attributes The use of camera angles and props in relation to the dialogue when Pai if fixing ... The four major landforms of Europe include the Western Uplands, North European Plain, Central Uplands and Alpine Mountains. These landforms are primarily arranged in bands that run from east to west. Each landform provides a biodiversity and resources for humans. The Western Uplands are formed of ancient rock that has been shaped by glaciation and shapes the north and west coastline of Europe. It includes Spain, French Brittany, Scandinavia, and the British Isles. The North European Plain is low and fertile and has rivers. It goes from southern Britain through the middle of Europe to Russia. The Central Uplands are mostly wooded hills and highlands in France, Belgium, southern Germany, and the Czech Republic. The Alpine Mountains have high mountain peaks and active volcanoes that run from northern Spain across southern Europe to the Caucasus in Russia. The High Alps range from eastern France to Slovenia and are central to the Alpine region. Mountains act as a natural dividing range and can also isolate people and separate cultural groups. The Central Uplands is the area bordering the main Alps to the north, which includes a significant portion of southern Germany extending eastward. • 8. John Adams Pursuit Of The American Dream Daija Daniels Professor Metz History 101 21 March 2016 The American Dream When people come to America, they come because the want to live the American dream. But what actually is the American dream? Does it truly exist? When one thinks of the American dream they instantly think of the Declaration of Independence because they too also believe that all men are created equal but also believe in the beauty of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. United States citizens as well as immigrants, believed in what the declaration had said and that it would push them closer to an experience of the American dream. Though people are excited to move towards a better life, they become a bit hesitant because they do not know exactly what the American dream is, nor do they know if all people are granted the same chance towards the American dream due to their age, race, their social status, traditions and any other factors. John Adams once stated that this American dream we speak of should give a better life to everyone but only according to their ability. To me this means that everyone deserves a better life but we cannot just give you everything, you have to show what you can do, and how far your American dream goes depends on you, your ability, and how hard you are willing to work. Though your American dream is based upon your ability being African American holds you back, though you have the ability to do great things you will not get the same opportunity due to race. The diagnostic process for personality disorders currently covers a broad scope of various tests and symptoms, causing a source of frustration for psychiatrists (Aldhous). Most psychiatric patients are diagnosed with several personality disorders at once, with twenty percent of people with personality disorders simply diagnosed with a personality disorder not otherwise specified (Aldhous). The various treatments are broken down by method, the first of which being cognitive behavioral therapy, which attempts to alter the conscious thoughts and behavioral patterns of patients (Daniel); ( Treating Borderline 2). Cognitive behavior therapy itself is broken down into two therapies, dialectical behavioral therapy and schema focused therapy ( Treating Borderline 2). Dialectical behavioral therapy, developed by Dr. Linehan, is centered on the basis that personality disorders are formed when hypersensitive patients are in situations which lack the emotional support they require, therefore leading to their inability to regulate emotions ( Treating Borderline 2). Thus, the treatment serves to help the patient gain control over their emotion and behavior ( Treating Borderline 2). The treatment itself consists of group and individual sessions and typically lasts approximately one year ( Treating Borderline 2). During the group sessions, patients learn to become more aware of their behaviors and emotions through sessions pertaining to problem solving, mindfulness meditation, and breath training ( Treating Borderline 2). The proposal of prisoners being used for something other than construction is significant because it demonstrates the other portion of economic infrastructure they produced for the Soviets. Overall, the outcome of the task guided the Soviet Union to rely on their strength in numbers. During the peak of corrective labor colonies , each camp held around 2,000 10,000 inmates and consisted of people arrested at collectivization, anyone who opposed the Communist party, and many innocent victims who never committed any crimes (Gulag 1). The researchers recommended that the medical members, having now recognized the problem, make available specific teaching sessions on the likelihood of harassment, its prevention, and the need for protection, the experience would be validated and depersonalized, and female doctors would be helped to overcome their vulnerability. The opportunity to view sexual harassment as an abuse of power, rather than an incident provoked by a victim s inappropriate dress or comments, may clarify the confusion felt by respondents over the causes of harassment and their responses to it (Phillips and Schneider, 1993). In my own personal opinion, the researchers recommendations focusing on the development of self awareness by implementing either one on one or group sessions is an effective way of providing, not only the female physicians but all women in general, an idea of how to detect and prevent impending sexually motivated advances and how to recover for those who already are victims of it. These recommendations however failed to specify any possible legal recourse should a victim opt for it. Recommendations would cover a broader scope of applicability if it included all the legal aspects accompanying the issue which is exactly what another study suggested. • 13. The Jim Crow Laws In The Black By Richard Wright In order to grasp a better understanding of the author s craft, the student includes a portion of the author s background. This may enable the student to further acknowledge the author s purpose throughout the essay. Richard Wright was born on September 4, 1908 in Roxie, Mississippi and from the moment he was born, his life consisted of various struggles. He came to a world that refused to accept him on the basis of his skin color. Growing up African American ( Black ) was already hard enough, but growing up Black and in the South was practically a death sentence. Americans were strictly enforcing the Jim Crow Laws in the South and the Jim Crow Laws created a barrier between the Blacks and the Whites (Caucasian). These laws were instituted by Southerners after the Civil War because the southern lawmakers were unhappy that they had lost the war and did not want slavery to completely end. The Whites refused to see Blacks as socially equal. The Jim Crow Laws made Blacks inferior to the Whites in every situation. Therefore, any relationship between the Blacks and the Whites that purposed the slightest amount of equality among them, would not be tolerated and was punishable by law. For instance, a Black man could never offer to shake hands with a White male because it challenged the social equality between them. Additionally, a Black person could not eat with a White person, if this is the case, there would be a physical barrier between them. Wright s Native Son depicts how the ... • 15. Examples Of Imperialism In Cry The Beloved Country The most compelling story of fighting flagrant oppression and injustice occurred during the twentieth century in South Africa. The symbol of Nelson Mandela being released from prison in the late nineties after decades of confinement represents the roaring social prejudice, and on an even more prominent scale, the economic discrimination of the native South African people during the apartheid era. The social and economic hierarchy of South Africa, one which placed blacks at the bottom, traces back to the colonization period of the country. As a time of warfare which exacerbated a widely held sense of divine entitlement, the colonization era provided the Dutch and English settlers with the power to claim South Africa for the country s location and resources in order to assert their global dominance. The desire to remain an international influence resulted in the settlers implementing several different systems of oppression, some of which still have lasting effects in South Africa, even in the present day. The identity of South Africa eroded as the Europeans remained in the country. Mainly through the Anglo Boer Wars, the sense of unity and culture held by Africans was dismantled as Europeans continued to encroach onto South African soil and separate themselves from black Africans to portray their culture as the international authority. In the novel Cry, The Beloved Country, the main character, Stephen Kumalo, alludes to a once united tribe of African people before the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a big problem in today s society, and many are speaking out about it. Article two states, Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedom set forth in this declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race... (Library). Standard Deduction Introduction Standard deduction is a provision of the United States federal income tax system, which serves two purposes including a least amount amount of untaxed income, thus acting as an ingredient of progressivity. Second, it provides a simplified alternative to the itemized deductions for tax payers with comparatively low itemizable expenses, thus relieving them of the record keeping and computational burden of itemizing deductions. Having one provision is a compromise to other but it is a compromise that is unnecessary. (Samansky, 1991) A base sum of income that is not focused to tax and that can be used to decrease a taxpayer s adjusted gross income (AGI), a standard deduction can only be used if the taxpayer does not prefer the itemized deduction method of calculating taxable income. The sum of the standard deduction is based on a taxpayer s filing status, age and whether he or she is disabled or claimed as a reliant on another person s tax return. The major reason taxpayers exercise standard instead of itemized deductions is that taxpayers don t have to keep track of every potential tax deductible expense throughout the year. Macroalgae can cause physical stress (Quan Young Espinoza Avalos 2006) decreased photosynthetic abilities (Titlyanov et al. 2007), reduced fecundity (Foster et al. 2008), and harbor potential coral pathogens (Nugues et al. 2004). The ability of macroalgae to competitively damage stony corals also depends on the species of macroalgae (Maypa Raymundo 2004; Birrell et al. 2008), and other compounding factors such as irradiance, sedimentation, dissolved nutrients, and level of herbivory on the reef. Over the past several decades the incidence of coral disease has increased, with striking correlation to increasing macroalgal cover (Goreau et al. 1998; Harvell et al. 1999; Harvell 2004; Weil Smith 2006). The enhanced need for disease research coupled with the massive advancements in molecular techniques made the study of coral associated microbes more efficient and less cost prohibitive. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The selection of the gas is important, as each performs differently with the type of detector that is being operated. The three most commonly selected gases for an experiment involving a gas chromatograph are hydrogen, helium, and nitrogen. Diffusivity and viscosity are two characteristics that will influence the performance of these gases. The diffusion coefficient, also called diffusivity is a parameter that is indicative of the diffusion mobility that is, it presents a mechanism for measurement for the diffusion speed of a solute s vapor in a gas. The speed of chromatography is determined by the diffusion speed of the solute in the carrier gas. A molecule evaporating from the stationary phase and proceeding into the stream of gas should be capable of diffusing back into the stationary phase before having to undergo the partitioning process again. It is this diffusion of molecules that set apart the gases. In order to obtain a good separation, the most desired carrier gases are those that come in contact with the column a significant number of times. There is a limit to this however, the more time that the gas is given for radial diffusion (diffusion in the direction of the stationary phase), the more time there is for band broadening (longitudinal diffusion). For this reason there is an optimal gas velocity, where it supplies maximum contact with the stationary phase and minimum band broadening in the gas phase.
