Terrorism Is A Threat Of Terrorism
Well known peace activist Mhatma Gandhi once preached, Terrorism and deception are weapons
not of the strong, but of the weak. Ghandi dedicated his life to independence for each and every
person on Earth. We live in a world where countries biggest fear is the threat of terrorism. To
many, terrorism may only seem to be stories in the history books, but in reality in today s world
terrorismis a heightened menace. Terrorism, when defined by the Federal Bureau of Investigation,
means any activities that involve of violent acts or acts dangerous to human life that violate federal
or state law, appear to be intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population, to influence the
policy of a government by intimidation or coercion, or to effect the conduct of a government by
mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping (Federal Bureau of Investigation). While some
attacks are far more infamous than others, there have been countless terror attacks on the United
States of America alone. Not to mention surrounding countries, territories, etc. all over the world.
Terrorism rears its ugly head in all different sizes and I believe all measures should be taken to stop
this despicable act. Throughout research, I ve discovered many factors relevant to the history,
current, and future threat of terrorism, along with the different perspective groups of the
functionalists, conflict theorists, and symbolic interactionists.
While the threat of terrorism has increased greatly in the last

How Can Ninja Turtles Be Considered A Group
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would be considered a group. According to the organizational
behavior text groups are a collection of individuals who interact with each other such that one
person s actions have an impact on the others (Bauer, T., Erdogan, B.) (2010)(pg.205). The ninja
turtles consist of a quartet of mutated humanoid turtles who use their ninja skills to fight crime.
The names of the four turtles are Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello. Leonardo is
the tactical and courageous leader. Leo is the most authoritative of the four so he often takes it
upon himself to be responsible for his brothers.Michelangelo is the most stereotypical of the team.

Miscommunication can cause unwanted and unnecessary troubles. The organizational behavior text
mentions an interested fact: data suggest that deficient interpersonal communication was a causal
factor in approximately 70% to 80% of all accidents over the last 20 years. Taking this statement
into consideration, imagine all the unnecessary accidents that could happen with the turtles if they
did not communicate properly. Being that Leonardo is the team captain if you will, he is more
responsible for the effective communication. Poor communication can lead to more serious things
like lawsuits. Now it is not likely that a villain from this familiar comic is going to sue the turtles,
but if we put it into a real life scenario it could work. For example, Leonardo tells the group of
turtles that they need to use their ninja skills to exterminate criminal A, when in reality the group s
mission was supposed to be to exterminate criminal B and the person who put Leonardo in charge
then sues the ninja turtles for killing the wrong person. This level of miscommunication is
detrimental to any group, but especially the ninja turtles since people s lives are at risk. Moving on
from communication, norms are something that is something that

Compare The Very Old Man With Enormous Wings And Ode To A...
Doris Lessing in the fifth child, Gabriel Garcia Marquez in The very old man with enormous
wings and John R Keats in Ode to a nightingale use examples of unrequited love, and symbols of
positive and negative experiences to show how lack of affection can drive a person to either find
closure or to sink them into depression depending on their certain experiences. All three of the
authors have found different ways to show their readers that even though there is a different ending
to each story that there is still hope to fix unrequited love.
The relationship between Ben and his mother in the fifth child was one of the most different of
stories I have personally read. Ben is the character that changes the entire family s perspective on
life and changed them as a family as well. One of the quotes found in the book are Ben, do you
remember that place you went to in the van? Solidifying the fact that Ben was neglected for the
longest time because he was extremely different from all the other children in the perfect family,
but his mother eventually had to take control of the situation as she realizes that she neglected her
own child without even trying to because he was different, but he was not different enough to be
kept in the institution. As Harriet realizes she must get him out of an insane asylum since he does
not actually belong there but back at home with her and the family so that she could take care of
him as she would any of her other children. But somewhere after

NEA Budget Cuts
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), which supports and helps fund artist and art
programs has constantly been criticized since it was formed in 1965 by congress under Lyndon
B. Johnson s presidency. This isn t the first time that the NEA has faced budget cuts and possible
elimination. Thu Huong Ha writes in her article, People have been trying to get rid of the
National Endowment for the Arts for 36 years. The NEA s value has often been questioned by
the federal government calling it a bloated waste of public money and criticizing it as a funder of
obscenities (Ha). The budget cuts began after Ronald Regan s initial proposal to eliminate the
NEA in 1989 which led instead to the budget being reduced by 10%. Next in 1989 and 1990 the

Research Paper
Equal Opportunity in the Army
Propelled by the civil rights movement of the 1960s and to counteract a national policy of
segregation and inequality, the Department of Defense (DoD) mandated race relations training in
1971. The violent and nonviolent disorders of the late 1960s were the catalyst that convinced
military leaders that race relations education must be provided to every member of the Armed
Forces. An inter service task force examined the causes and possible cures of these racial disorders
within the military. The task force, chaired by Air Force Major General Lucius Theus, resulted in
Department of Defense Directive 1322.11. This directive established the ... Show more content on

The situation in today s Army is clearly much different from what existed years ago. Many
changes have occurred, moving the Army s EO program from a strictly educational and training
initiative to a multifaceted management program with clear goals and objectives. These goals
and objectives are also an integral part of human relations and are nurtured and developed through
a professional military education system. The concept of the EO program is to formulate, direct,
and sustain a comprehensive effort to maximize human potential. It strives to ensure fair treatment
of all soldiers is based solely on merit, fitness, capability, and potential in support of readiness. EO
philosophy is based on fairness, justice, and equity. It places the responsibility for sustaining a
positive EO climate within a unit on its commander. The U.S. Army will provide EO and fair
treatment for military personnel and family members without regard to race, color, religion, gender,
or national origin, and provide an environment free of unlawful discrimination and offensive
behavior. The assignment and utilization of female soldiers are the only exceptions to our non
biased personnel management process. AR 600 13, Army Policy for the Assignment of Female
Soldiers, prescribes policies, procedures, responsibilities, and the position coding

The Testament Of Isaiah And Isaiah
Throughout the Old Testament God carried out his plan to bring His people back to Him. Often
the people of Israel would fall away from their relationship with God by worshipping false Idols
such as Baal or by disobeying His commands in general. One of the main ways God got his
message of redemption to His people was via prophets, spiritually gifted individuals that God
lifted up to communicate His will to the people of Israel. The prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah often
were used to call Israel out on their wickedness, and to warn then of God s coming judgement
that would teach them a lesson. It is clear from what the prophets wrote, that God very much
intended to wipe the sins of the nation s away, one way or another. This is a message that still
very much applies today, Isaiah and Jeremiah were meant to steer God s people back to Him and
their messages with Christians today are supposed to do the same. Judah and Israel in their time
were constantly full of sins and needing to be cleansed. In the beginning of Isaiah, he opens by
stating that they were a sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children
who are corrupters! They have forsaken the lord. (Isaiah 1:4, New King James Version). The sins
of Judah and Israel were many and that is why God sent the prophets with the message they gave. In
attempt to warn the people that disobeying God s commandments would lead to harsh punishment.
It is apparent that God did respond to the sins harshly. In

The artist Thomas Cole was born in 1801, in England. He was an immigrant in the United States,
his family and him migrated to the states in 1818, he was 17 years of age. Thomas Cole lived in
many different states including, Ohio, Philadelphia and in Pittsburgh where he work all over the
place traveling back and fourth as a portrait artist. Thomas Colewas a self taught artist yet he did
interact with well know artist. A changing point in Cole s life that in my opinion that had a big
impact on the paintingI am going to be talking about is when Cole discovered and fell in love with

In this painting we see an infant that is in a boat. Behind the infant there is an angel that is
guiding the child out of a cave into a beautiful landscape. Thomas Cole paints the landscape very
rich; you get o a sense of warmth and calmness. There is beautiful green land, big mountains, and
different types of flowers.
According to the website Exploring Thomas Cole, there are different types of allegories in this
painting. The first allegory is the hourglass that is in the boat. The hourglass is meant to
represent time, the second allegory is the river, which is meant to represent the stream of life,
and the third allegory is the flower, which is an Egyptian lotus, which Cole described as
symbolical of Human Life. Finally the cave that the infant and the angel are coming out of
according to Thomas Cole is an emblematic of our earthly origin, and the mysterious Past. Cole
uses different types of light and dark colors it gives the painting a different look, the light colors
fade and so does the dark colors, this is called chiaroscuro. Perspective was also used in this
painting; different parts of the painting have different sizes giving us a sense of depth.
The second painting, Youth, painted in 1842, oil on canvas, 53 in Г— 76 in, continues to have a
beautiful green landscape, we still see trees, flowers, mountains, and now we see a castle in the
back. In this painting the view is widening. The child from the last painting now looks like
adolescent. The

Muslims believe the prophets of God are His messengers to human kind, they include; Adam,
Noah, Joseph, Luke, Moses, Abraham, Jesus and Muhammad. Salman noted in our discussion
that Noah should be an example to us all because he preached for 950 years and was listened to by
less than a dozen people. All others mocked him so he was very courageous in his obedience and
faith. The Kaaba is the most sacred place in Islam. The Kaaba is located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It
is where millions of people make a pilgrimage. Salman said during his pilgrimage to Mecca there
were over 3 million people who answered the call of prayer and in a matter of minutes were lined

The Muezzin is anyone who makes the call to prayer in the mosque. In large Mosque this person
may be called the servant of the mosque. In small mosque the imam would also perform the call

depending on geographic location. There are seven postures, one that we often see is with
forehead, nose, hands and knees all touching the ground at the same time. Most of what I have
seen and read on Muslim prayer indicated they pray toward Mecca but in the Sunni Mosque in
Murfreesboro I thought I saw them turn 3 different directions as I watched them pray. The most
basic and essential prayer is the shahada. It goes: La ilaha ill Allah; wa Mohammed rasul Allah
There is no god but God; and Mohammed is the Prophet. These are the first words that are
whispered into Muslim baby and the last words a person hears when he or she is on their

Alice And The Video Games
Alice and the Video Games Alice, an ignorant little girl from Alice and the Wonderland tumbled
down the rabbit hole into a world of meaninglessness (IMDb); today, proponents of banning
violent video games are following Alice, stumbling over themselves into a pitfall of a lack of
substantial evidence and reasoning. An exemplary example of such a proponent is Eric Roberts,
the uncredentialed author of the article Violent Video Games Produce Violent Behavior in Our
Nation s Youth and Should Be Banned . On top of making groundless claims against violent video
games, Roberts lumps in unrelated elements simply to appeal to pathos and vainly attempts to reel

In the latter half of his first argument, Roberts boldly claims Violent video games equate to
violent behavior, especially in children whose brains are not fully formed yet and a game rated
MA (Mature) doesn t stop a kid from playing it, yet there is utterly no evidence supporting these
poor claims. In reality, according to the Entertainment Software Rating Board s official website, a
majority of parents check the video game rating before purchasing it for their child (ESRB).
Robert draws a hasty generalization in hopes that readers will gloss over such details and
ignorantly agree with Robert s meaningless and false claims.
A vast majority of Robert s argument is based around women being portrayed as helpless victims
or sexual objects. Drawing on sympathetic feelings, Robert equates violent video games to sexual
ones and generalizes them as a whole. While attempting to indirectly attack violent video games, he
utilizes the straw man fallacy to prey on a vaguely associated, weaker target: sexual video games.
He criticizes these sexual games to coerce compassionate support, a mere gaudy bauble for naive
readers to blindly listen to Robert s argument. In fact, Roberts gives absolutely no evidence to state
any link between violent and sexual video games, much less a link between how sexual video
games translate into sexist or aggressive behavior in the modern world. Rather,

Value Analysis Of Nestle
. We can see that the value for this ratio in NestlГ© is roughly 0,41. In order to avoid liquidity
problems, the ratio s value must be closed to 1, but we can see that the value for this ratio in
NestlГ© is roughly 0,41. Since it is quite lower, it means that NestlГ© has risk of bankruptcy, due
to the fact that, with the resources owned in short term, the company cannot pay back its short term
liabilities. This could be related to the fact that NestlГ© has a very high bargaining power that

contrast, the turnover is slightly lower but similar to the mean, and the leverage ratio is also inferior

smaller proportion of debt than other firms in the same industry. On 2011, the ROE of NestlГ©

Competitive Grading Sabotages Good Teaching
I believe that competitive grading sabotages good teaching. From being a student, I know that
students do not enjoy a class where they know that their teacher is against them. When teachers
grade anything, they should point out mistakes; however, they should point out what is correct too
in order to encourage students. Teachers should not feel good about themselves when many
students fail an examination or do not do well on a paper; instead, they should realize that they
have not taught their students well. Many teacher see grades as a numbers game; for example,
they may not want to give away many As. However, if many students do work that is A material,
they may gradesome students harsher in order to keep their grade distribution consistent,

Many Graduate with a Higher National Diploma
Presented some 45 years ago the higher national diploma course made minute influence to the
education of professional engineers until the Second World War; and it was about 10 years ago that
the number of diplomas endowed approached the number sitting the Institution s own examinations.
Since then, nevertheless, the growth has been remarkable and today about 40 per cent of those
qualifying as mechanical engineers by full time or sandwich study do so through the Higher
National Diploma. Originally, the standard of the final assessed examination was matching to that

students to share the same class. Today, however, the standards are very much higher and method
those of universitydegrees. It is often overlooked that the university year is shorter than college
year, and that classes tend to finish well before examination period; so that, the H.N.D. course
duration of some 2000 hours or so is much the same as that in a full time university degree
sequence. The increase in numbers in recent years is undoubtedly due to the recognition accorded
by industry to the merits of the course. Firms have been able to recruit students unacceptable to the
university, and sponsor them on a course which not only leads to a professional qualification, but
which also has a smaller rate and an output capable of undertaking responsible work without
reprocessing. Another advantage is that the study

Renewable And Non Renewable Energy Sources
Renewable and non renewable energy sources are used daily in our lives. According to Conserve

the energy which is taken from the sources that are available on the earth in limited quantity and
will vanish fifty sixty years from now. Finding ways to use renewable energysources rather than

Evolutionary Explanation of Gender Development Essay
Outline and evaluate the evolutionary explanation of gender development.
Gender refers to the concepts o masculine and feminine whereas sex is the biological fact of being
a male or female. According to the evolutionary approach, gender differences are neither deliberate
nor conscious; they exist because they enhanced or helped men and women perform particular
types of roles in the past. Therefore, the role differences we observe are more a product of our
biological inheritance than acquired through socialisation.
Part of the evolutionary explanation is Trivers parental investment theory which argues that the
origin of behavioural differences between men and women lies in the different ways of achieving
reproductive success. Trivers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although some evidence is indisputable, such as women becoming pregnant, evolutionary
psychologists need to update their theories to align with recent findings.
Baron and Cohen (2002) suggested, in their E S theory, that male hunters gained an evolutionary
advantage systematising over women who were much more empathetic. With their theory they
suggested that during stress responses, men tend to be adapted for flight or fight, whereas females
are not. Shields (1975) suggested that men and women evolved to have roles that complemented
each other, in order for both genders to survive. This is supported by Ennis et al 2001) who found
that men show a better fight or flight response, as during exams men s cortisol levels are higher
than women s during the same time period. However, evolutionary explanations may partially
explain why gender roles have developed but the fact that gender roles can differ globally would
imply social factors are also involved, so the evolutionary explanations cannot fully explain gender
roles.
Another evolutionary explanation of gender development is mate choice, which suggests that
gender role behaviours are related to reproductive strategies. It is thought that men will look for
women who are young whereas women are usually more interested in the resources of a mate. This
can be explained from an evolutionary perspective as mating with a physically attractive woman

around the model. Then, the wax is melted and molten glass is poured into the mold. Lalique glass
was made in this manner until approximately 1905 at which time the factory was redesigned for a
larger production. As such, the individual uniqueness of each example of Lalique glass came to an

Some of these creations are now on display at the Orrefors Glass Museum. The news that artists
were engaged in a glasshouse for the first time attracted gifted glassblowers to Orrefors. The union
of glassblowers and artists led to joint development of techniques such as Graal and Ariel , and to
further development of the traditional Bohemian cooper wheel engraving. On the whole, Orrefors
offered broad scope for experiment and innovation with new techniques being developed and older
ones refined and this is still the case today.
Success led to the arrival of new designers. The graphic artist Vicke Lindstrand came to Orrefors
in 1928, and designed glass that was painted or engraved. Nils Landberg and Sven Palmqvist
came at the end of the 1920 s as engravers, apprentices, and after service as assistants to Simon

Ohrstrom joined Orrefors in 1936.

How A Usb Drive Can Be Used For More Than Just Storing Data
A USB Drive is known for carry data, be it music, photos, documents, videos, etc. But there s a
whole other side to these handy little gadgets. Take a look at these 10 ways that a USB drive can
be used for more than just storing data. 1. Run portable applications (just like your smart phone)
Portable apps are becoming more and more popular everyday and businesses are starting to see
the benefits of using them internally and externally to market their products. USB drives are
perfect devices for these applications. For instance, OpenOffice, which is a complete office
suite that contains a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation tool, drawing software and
database, is available as a portable app. Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird offer portable web
navigation as portable applications. If you take these tools, namely the ability to check your
email, surf the web and be able to use a full office suite, in combination with the mobility of a
USB drive, you ve given yourself the ability to redefine your office environment! If you need
more, you can choose a variety of other applications for use on a USB drive from
Portableapps.com. You can even download an entire package of applications that include some
cool tools like an audio player, games, antivirus utilities and a customizable menu system that is
dedicated to your USB drive. 2. Boot an operating system Some of us older geeks remember
making thirty copies of a boot disk on old 3.5 floppy disks. If you crash your hard

In this lab, students did an experiment to figure out the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide being
produced during photosynthesis and respiration. First, they did an experiment in the light using
spinach leaves. They put the spinach leaves in the chamber and turn the light on and start collecting
the data in the computer. The rate of production of oxygenwas high because of photosynthesis,
however without light there were not photosynthesis happening, that is why there was more carbon
dioxidebeing produced because of cellular respiration. The level of carbon dioxide increases
steadily when the leaf is in the dark. The plant s mitochondria are producing carbon dioxide gas as
a by product of cellular respiration (which uses glucose

Personal objectives for the next 12 months
There are 3 SMART objectives I want to achieve for the next 12 months that will help me in my
career. First of all, I want to continue learning Mandarin language. I have been trying to learn it
for the past 6 months, however to get the hang of a language requires more time. Still, it is
needed as Chinese speakers are expanding all over the world. I have to the luck to be living
among Chinese speakers, so with effort and willingness I will be able to achieve this objective
and to measure my progress. So I will learn Mandarin day by day, through talking to my friends.
Also, I will take up a Chinese language course right after my graduation, which means June, 2009.
The second objective would be improving my English writing and reading skills. People would
say I must be really bad at English to set up such objective. In my opinion, able to simply read
and write English is not the main point, the importance is how you understand what you read
thoroughly and explain what you think professionally in writing. That what it counts in
workplace, so that would be a realistic idea for me. It is achievable through constant learning and
reading. I have an English teacher as a girlfriend, so she will be the one who measure my progress.
I will buy some books about writing skills, and read as much as I can. This is a basic day to day
learning. I will go back to my hometown at the end of December,

Pros And Cons Of Exercise Eminent Domain
Although eminent domain is sometimes necessary, there should be limits placed on it to ensure
that individual property rights are never trampled on. This essay will explain at what times
government officials should have the right to exercise eminent domain, the extent of which the
current occupant should be satisfactorily compensated, and an engineer s duty to the public to only
accept projects where the previous propertyowners are content in the arrangements of their
dismissal.
The government should exercise eminent domain cautiously to ensure that individual property
rights are seldom taken away. In 2005, the ruling of Kelo v. City of New Londonallowed state and
local governments to take private property and transfer it to other private owners to promote
economic development (Somin 1). The promotion of economic development, however, is not sound
reasoning to transfer private property from one private owner to the next. The only instance when
this may be acceptable is when the property in mention is no longer in use. Some examples include

Pros And Cons Of Stem Cell Therapy
MECHANISMS OF STEM CELL
One of the major obstacles in progressing to large scale clinical trials of cardiac stem cell therapy
is the ongoing debate regarding the mechanism of action by which stem cell therapy leads to
cardiac repair. The classic idea that provided the primary motivation for stem cell therapy is that
delivery of the appropriate stem cells would repair a damaged heart via active myocardial
regeneration resulting from transdifferentiation of the administered stem cells.19 Some researchers
believe that exogenous stem cells may also stimulate proliferation of endogenous cardiac precursors
or stem cells through neovascularization or paracrine signaling actions. Other state that exogenous
stem cells may lead to cardiac repair via ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within a few hours after transplantation, stem cells injected locally within the heart also are
observed within the lungs, spleen, liver, and kidney. Some studies have shown that, one day after
transplantation of neonatal cardiac myocytes into rat hearts, only 24% of the originally injected
cells remained in the heart. Given the small fraction of stem cells that remain within the heart after
injection and the multiple organs to which the stem cells migrate, it is imperative that better
methods of tracking stem cells be developed to determine the fate of these cells after
transplantation. Several potential methods have been developed to label and track stem cells in
animal models, including scintigraphy, PET, and MRI.25
There are many type of stem cell and it is unknown which cell types among the many different
types of stem/progenitor cells that have been studied to date, is most effective in a given
pathophysiological setting and very few studies have directly compared different cell types with
respect to the outcomes of therapy, those studies are difficult because they require that the dose

Glass Bottle Dating In Ancient Rome
My chosen artifact is a perfume glass bottle dating to 1st century A.D. in ancient Rome, the
vessel was created with the technique of glassblowing. Glass became affordable for common
people when glassblowing spread throughout Rome, before this glass was normally made only
in the form of small opaque bottles or large bowls that were not translucent like modern glass.
Glass blowing was invented in the regions of Syria and Palestine in the 1st century B.C.E. and
spread due to its ingenuity. The old method of creating glass required molds and there were not
as many shapes, with glassblowing the vessels could be made in any size or shape. The new

The fact that a common person could afford a glass bottle of perfume demonstrates that Rome
was an advanced society that was very specialized. Glassblowing was a profession that could be
very prosperous if the individual was skilled since glass was sought after across Rome. The
substantial amounts of perfume that was used in ancient Rome also points out that there was a
clear concern for hygiene even among the lower class. The artifact seems plain in nature but it

Nonformity Is A Form Of Conformity
Throughout history, many have tried to break away from society s norms in an attempt to live life
more fully. Examples include religious, government, and cultural revolutions where people group
themselves based on their beliefs in order to create wide scale change. But I question just how
many people in these groups Вreally believe in their movements. By no means am I negating the
sincerity of the thousands who participated in the peace movement of the 1960s or the punk
movement of the late 1970s in fact, I have come to embrace many of the ethos and philosophies
of these cultural movements. However, I am saddened by the number of young people I see who
seem to believe that they are punk because of the kind of shoes or brand of clothing they wear. I
see it every day here at Alpena high school when I walk in the door in the morning. The types of
clothing that people wear and the styles that they want to have put them in what social group they
belong to . As you can see conformityhas been around for a long time, since humans have called
Earth their home actually but is non conformity a form of conformity? Read on to find out that yes,
non conformity is a form of conformity.
Today it seems as if the original philosophies of these groups have been forgotten. Their
historical records were dirtied over time by the stereotypes of non participant generations and the
bias of the media. Youth today seems to look at such movements through commercialized lenses,
allowing their understanding of the world to be altered by what is in, popular, or on television.
For example if you were on a road trip with your grandparents and you were in the car and you
flipped to the most recent rap station there is they would look at you differently than if you turned
the dail to the music that they grew up with. Whenever I am with my grandparents they always
question me on weather or not I actually listen to their generations music because of the steryotype
that teens listen to only fast beat music that you can barely understand. To me, the clothing and
physical or material elements specific to a certain counterculture movement should emphasize its
beliefs rather than replace them. Can we really be free if we are worried about

their documentary film, The True Cost , that these stark contrasts are simply two sides of the

Decline In Voter Turnout
The decline in voter turnout at the turn of the century has always been a concern for politicians
and scholars alike. The very fact that voters are responsible for changing or keeping the country s
leadership means that this development should be a concern not only to a few individuals but also
to the whole nation. The government, political parties, and focus and interest groups have tried to
find ways to increase the motivation to vote while easing the votingprocess. However, these
methods have been less successful than expected. While the motivation to vote relies on factors
such as the attributes of voters, political socialization, and electoral laws and rules, the impact of

148). In essence, every voter has some political beliefs and values that often influence the way
he or she views political parties, candidates, and ideals. Some conservative people tend to vote to
Republican, while some people tend to vote Democratic. Voters have their own political
attitudes, and these attitudes determine how society goes, whom they are voting for, and what
kind of political parties they are supporting. Many elements have the ability to contribute the
political attitudes, such as family, gender, education, income, religion, age, race, and etc.
According to Ginsberg et al., the first place where people start forming their beliefs on politics
is their families and society (148). This idea explains the reason some areas in the U.S. have
more Democratic representatives while others have the majority of their residents being
Republicans. The fact that most people possess these ideals means that in the event that the
candidates in a ballot do not have the qualities that a particular group of voters is looking for,
these voters will not partake in voting. When the impact of race in political socialization is
factored in, it becomes increasingly evident that some people of one race are unlikely to spend
their time voting for a candidate who does not represent their beliefs pertaining to racial issues. For
instance, African Americans perception of the extent of racism is different from that of whites.
This has a significant bearing on the motivation of voters from each divide to participate in an

Motivation In Beowulf Essay
Beowulf s Motives
(A Discussion on Beowulf s Motivation to Kill the Three Monsters)
The story of Beowulf, as many call it was originally an epic poem. This poem is known
worldwide and with reason. Being presented for the first time, sometime before 1000 BC. Its also
known as the most important Greek poem ever. Alongside the well known Iliad. Both are known
as epic poems which are passed down orally but are considered long narratives. Beowulf is the
earliest of any epic poem of that time period. Beowulf being the main character, travels from his
home land to a foreign country, where they have been ravaged by a monster named grendel.
Which leads to another monster which is Grendel s mother. The poem ends with Beowulf killing
his last monster, a dragon. But the reader is met with the question why did he do all of this?
Beowulf s motivations in the epic poem Beowulf are presented as his duty to do so, for the fame
and glory, and to sacrifice himself for the betterment of others.
In the epic poem Beowulf, Beowulf s first motivation, that the reader is presented, is his anglo
saxon sense of duty. The anglo saxon code is a very large factor in this epic poem as it is what

The Word Superiority Effect ( Wse )
Abstract
The word superiority effect (WSE), recognition of letters better in words than non words, has
been observed in normal adults, but is not observed in studies done with normal children. The
supported theory is that this is caused by the development of top down processing sometime
during the children s growth. A Reicher Wheeler task will be conducted on normal children in 5
different age groups as well as adults. The expected results are to see an increasing WSE as the age
of the children increases.
Key Words: Word Superiority Effect

Top Down Processing Development:
Reicher Wheeler Task Results of Middle to Late Childhood Age Children
The word superiority effect (WSE) is the phenomenon that subjects are more likely to recognize
a letter accurately in a word (WINGS) than in a psuedoword, strings of letters that follow known
language rules and are pronounceable (WUNGS), a non word, strings of letters that do not
follow known language rules and are not pronounceable (WCHDS), or just in a mask (TXXXX)
(Coch, 2010; Grainger, 2003; Jordan, 1996). This is observed through The Reicher Wheeler

Conclusion For Universal Health Care
Premise 1: A universal health care system would reduce health care costs.
Premise 2: Universal health care improves overall public health.
Premise 3: Universal health care would encourage patients to practice preventive medicine.
Premise 4: Healthcare would be affordable to all citizens if made universal.
Conclusion: Therefore, implementing a universal health care system in our society would greatly
benefit everyone.
Reducing Health Costs
With a universal health care system, the government would have control and run the system,
therefore, the cost of healthcare would be regulated. A universal health care system would be
regulated by the government, so costs overall would be reduced with a more monitored system to
reduce inflated costs for tests, hospital stays and procedures. (Ireland, 2017) When you regulate
medical costs, the cost of medical coverage, supplies, and prescriptions are more affordable for
everyone.
Improved Overall Public Health
With universal healthcare being more affordable, everyone gets equal access to medical health
care. This can lead to a reduction in the number of medical issues suffered by our society.
According to Howard K. Koh, M.D., we can absolutely expect for overall public health to
improve if we provide quality, affordable health care coverage for all Americans. (Cohen, 2009)
This means people would miss less work and/or school. This also means that more people could be
seen for some of the most basic ailments such as colds,

Who Is Harriet Wilson s Fallen Women
Fallen Women: Sexual, Racial, and Moral Inequality in Harriet Wilson s Our Nig Since time
immemorial, women have undergone massive discrimination, prejudices, and gender restrictive
norms established by patriarchal society. In modern history, these restrictions include limited access
to education, unequal remuneration placements and limited job advancement. In nineteenth
century, however, women had to struggle with different type of discrimination. Particularly, they
had no freedom because everything in their life was controlled by men. Such agenda was
supported by marriage laws, which basically stated that husband owned his wife. Divorces or runs
away from miserable marriages were unacceptable and punished by the society as well as the law....

Racial differences play a significant role in marriage dissolutions a scenario that is replicated in
Wilson s novel. Mag, surrounded him a priceless gem , her virginity, and gives birth to a child
who dies within a few weeks (6). In this regard, women are portrayed as assets that are at the
disposal of men to not only procreate but also satisfy men s sexual desires. The woman is
afterwards disowned by the white gentleman punctuating a miserable life into the gloomy future.
Fundamentally, the loss of virginity to a person who is neither a husband nor a prospective
mate is considered a failure notably in the novel. For this reason, as a tempted and fallen woman,
Mag is despised by her own family, community and becomes an outcast of the society, a fallen
woman. Upon the untimely separation from the white gentleman, it is evident that life will no
longer be a bed of roses for Mag considering the fact that the child that could serve as a unifying
factor between her and the man, dies only days after his/her entry onto planet earth. Losing her
position in the society and having no money to support herself, she decides to wed a black man
who feels sympathy towards her and wants to make her future better. It seems that Mag has no
other choice to survive but to

Why BPA Is Bad
Everyone one at some point in their life has drank from a plastic bottle, whether it was a baby
bottle, a plastic disposable water bottle, or just a water bottle you have used for exercise. If you
were to show someone one of these thing they would know what it is, but what they might not
know is that it can be harmful to them. A while back a lot water bottlesused to be made with
something called BPA, which has been proven to have many side effects on people when it get
absorbed into from the plastic to your water. In this paper I will be informing you on BPA, what it
is on how it gets into your water, what side effects it can have on you, and are water bottlesafe for
you now. BPA it is a chemical that use to be found in water bottles all

If you are still weary about which plastic water bottle or glasses you buy there is a way you can
check if it safe. There numbers with recycling symbols located somewhere on the plastic item.
The numbers you want your water bottle are 1,2,4, and 5, while you want to avoid the numbers
3, 6, and 7. The reason you want to avoid 3,6, and 7 are because those are the numbers that still
contain BPA. The number 3 contains PVC plastic that usually used as peanut butter jars and
squeeze bottles. The plastic numbered 6 is made with polystyrene. The Chemical is normally
found in things such as styrofoam trays. Last number 7 are non recyclable and are made with
polycarbonate. Another important thing people should know is that not all BPA free water
bottle are not so safe and maybe even as bad as just having the BPA in the bottle. There are two
different things I found some research on that have been used to replace BPA one being BPS
(bisphenol S) and the other called Tritan. As for BPS in January of this year scientists found out
that BPS is messing with the brain development of the zebrafish, why this is important to us is
because we share 80% of genes with the zebrafish. There were also urine test that found out that
about 81% of people in the US have trace amounts of this chemical. As for Tritan, a lot is still
known about it because it is still fairly new, but in some experiments conducted it had a higher
estrogen effect on animals than BPA did and another no effect whatsoever.. Now only studying,
testing, and time will tell if it is truly safe or

The Fall of Both Mubarak’s Regime and the Legal...
Introduction :
By the end of Mubarak s rule, the legalised political opposition in Egypt was already a mirror to
the regime it was presumed to challenge: discreditable, central, aging and undemocratic.
Systematic state repression and internal divisions fragmented the opposition and deviated it from
the role assumed by its counterparts in liberal democracies. Instead of competitive interaction with
the regime, the legal opposition stationed itself as an integral part of the authoritarian polity. Years
of regime opposition dynamics ended with the latter s alignment with the regime and becoming
more of a domesticated opposition. This clientelist relationship was necessary for the survival of the
semi authoritarian regime. It enabled it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 1990s were labeled as Egypt s deliberalisation period (Stacher, 2004).
They were regarded as the years when the regime gave birth to new forms of authoritarianism that
do not fit into classic categories of one party, military, or personal dictatorship (Schedler, 2002).
Since the publication of Huntington s Third Wave in 1991, many analysts have anticipated a
democratic transition to occur in Egypt.
Indicators of the progress of the democratization process in Egypt included the emergence of
thousands of civil society groups, legal political parties, and numerous newspapers, as well as the
increasing role of the judiciary and rule of law. Yet, despite the arguments that Egypt s managed
process has a democratic endgame, the 1990s witnessed a rollback of civil society and political
opposition.
The deliberalisation process began in the early 1990s and was initially directed at Islamist activism
and political aspirations. When the regime successfully dealt with the Islamists, it began to curtail
its own weak opposition parties. Of the sixteen legalized opposition parties in Egypt, seven have
been closed since 1998. The regime also prevented prominent independent members of parliament
from using already existing parties to challenge the ruling party (Stacher, 2004).
As Kienle (1998) argues: Since the

Sub Saharan African Countries Have Experienced Macro...
In recent years, sub Saharan African countries have experienced macro economic growth. The
growth rate per annum averaged 5.2% over the past decade between 2000 and 2011 (Kulundu,
2013). The growth rate has outpaced Middle East, Latin America and Eastern Europe after being
the slowest growing region for many years. In Tanzania, the growth rate averaged 6.8% from
2005 to 2011. It was ranked 1st in East Africa and 8th in sub Saharan Africa. In 2014 the GDP
was expected to grow by 7.2% and continue growing at annual averaged rate of 7.7% in medium
term (MOF, 2014). Ifzal et al (2007) observed that, economic growth does not guarantee all people
to benefit equally, because growth itself is not sufficient for povertyreduction. If poor or
marginalized people are left behind, it will result in increase of income inequality (Ifzal et al
2007). Vijayakumar et al (2012) showed the importance of economic growth by identifying its
effect in the economy. It s observed that, if GDP growth decreases by 1%, it might trap 20 million
more people into poverty. Therefore, it is evident that unstable growth will definitely have severe
adverse impact on vulnerable groups of people in the society. Furthermore high and increasing
levels of inequality may reduce the effect on poverty reduction resulting from a given rate of
growth. Thus inequality has implications for social cohesion and political stability required for
growth sustainability. This has been studied in several research works that have

The Novel Three Brothers Struggle Against The Outdated...
All through time, consecutive generations have rebelled against the values and traditions of their
elders. In all countries, including China, novel generations have required to find a different conduit
than that of their previous leaders. Conventional values become obsolete and are replace with what
the younger society deems as noteworthy. Familyconcentrates on this very subject. In the novel,
three brothers struggle against the outdated Confucian values of their elders. Alike in their dislike
of the traditional Confucian system of their grandfather, yet very different in their interactions with
him and others, begin to reach beyond the ancient values of Confucianismand strive for a breath of
freedom. Their struggles against the old values lead to pain, suffering and eventually achievement
for the three of them, however at a harsh price for two brothers.
The story of the first brother, Chueh hsin, is unquestionably the most upsetting and saddest in this
novel. Cheuh hsin has lived his entire life in reverence and constant conformity with his elders.
Although he is an enlightened person and does not unconditionally agree with many of the
Confucian values, which he follows, he feels that his position in the social hierarchy of the family
leaves him no other choice. As the first son of the first son he is the head of his household. As a
result, he is forced to take on responsibilities he does not want. For this very reason, his two
younger brothers, Cheuh min and

Public Relations Should Not Be Practiced
Public relations can be seen as a deliberate and planned effort to establish and maintain
understanding between an organisation and an audience. Public relations is the key to effective
communication between two parties. In addition to this, communication is the biggest part of how
meanings circulate within our society. Its strategy is determined by values that organize and frame
public ideas. Public relationsmay also look after the emotions and behaviours of a group of
audience and to support their influence of their attitudes and behaviours. It may use propagandato
attempt to affect a certain audience and for example, citizens of a given society. Propaganda is
manipulative and persuasive when it gives misleading information as it attempts to cause an
affect on the emotions of the given audience. In many cases, it is hard to break propaganda and
public relation apart as the two have a huge similarity. It has been noted by many critics that
because the two are so similar, public relations should not be practiced. They add that public
relation is an oxymoron and is an unreal possibility.
The purpose of this essay is to provide an overview of public relation and its history and to
investigate whether it helped and helps marginalized populations have a voice in the media. I will
argue that in the past public relations had limited participants and was less helpful than the open
and democratic societies we live in today, that allows more groups to have a voice and to speak out.

  • 2. Terrorism Is A Threat Of Terrorism Well known peace activist Mhatma Gandhi once preached, Terrorism and deception are weapons not of the strong, but of the weak. Ghandi dedicated his life to independence for each and every person on Earth. We live in a world where countries biggest fear is the threat of terrorism. To many, terrorism may only seem to be stories in the history books, but in reality in today s world terrorismis a heightened menace. Terrorism, when defined by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, means any activities that involve of violent acts or acts dangerous to human life that violate federal or state law, appear to be intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population, to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion, or to effect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping (Federal Bureau of Investigation). While some attacks are far more infamous than others, there have been countless terror attacks on the United States of America alone. Not to mention surrounding countries, territories, etc. all over the world. Terrorism rears its ugly head in all different sizes and I believe all measures should be taken to stop this despicable act. Throughout research, I ve discovered many factors relevant to the history, current, and future threat of terrorism, along with the different perspective groups of the functionalists, conflict theorists, and symbolic interactionists. While the threat of terrorism has increased greatly in the last ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Can Ninja Turtles Be Considered A Group Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would be considered a group. According to the organizational behavior text groups are a collection of individuals who interact with each other such that one person s actions have an impact on the others (Bauer, T., Erdogan, B.) (2010)(pg.205). The ninja turtles consist of a quartet of mutated humanoid turtles who use their ninja skills to fight crime. The names of the four turtles are Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello. Leonardo is the tactical and courageous leader. Leo is the most authoritative of the four so he often takes it upon himself to be responsible for his brothers.Michelangelo is the most stereotypical of the team. He is an easy going and free spirited prankster, the least mature of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Miscommunication can cause unwanted and unnecessary troubles. The organizational behavior text mentions an interested fact: data suggest that deficient interpersonal communication was a causal factor in approximately 70% to 80% of all accidents over the last 20 years. Taking this statement into consideration, imagine all the unnecessary accidents that could happen with the turtles if they did not communicate properly. Being that Leonardo is the team captain if you will, he is more responsible for the effective communication. Poor communication can lead to more serious things like lawsuits. Now it is not likely that a villain from this familiar comic is going to sue the turtles, but if we put it into a real life scenario it could work. For example, Leonardo tells the group of turtles that they need to use their ninja skills to exterminate criminal A, when in reality the group s mission was supposed to be to exterminate criminal B and the person who put Leonardo in charge then sues the ninja turtles for killing the wrong person. This level of miscommunication is detrimental to any group, but especially the ninja turtles since people s lives are at risk. Moving on from communication, norms are something that is something that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Compare The Very Old Man With Enormous Wings And Ode To A... Doris Lessing in the fifth child, Gabriel Garcia Marquez in The very old man with enormous wings and John R Keats in Ode to a nightingale use examples of unrequited love, and symbols of positive and negative experiences to show how lack of affection can drive a person to either find closure or to sink them into depression depending on their certain experiences. All three of the authors have found different ways to show their readers that even though there is a different ending to each story that there is still hope to fix unrequited love. The relationship between Ben and his mother in the fifth child was one of the most different of stories I have personally read. Ben is the character that changes the entire family s perspective on life and changed them as a family as well. One of the quotes found in the book are Ben, do you remember that place you went to in the van? Solidifying the fact that Ben was neglected for the longest time because he was extremely different from all the other children in the perfect family, but his mother eventually had to take control of the situation as she realizes that she neglected her own child without even trying to because he was different, but he was not different enough to be kept in the institution. As Harriet realizes she must get him out of an insane asylum since he does not actually belong there but back at home with her and the family so that she could take care of him as she would any of her other children. But somewhere after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Equal Opportunity in the Army Tech CommunicationRobert Snyder Research Paper Equal Opportunity in the Army Propelled by the civil rights movement of the 1960s and to counteract a national policy of segregation and inequality, the Department of Defense (DoD) mandated race relations training in 1971. The violent and nonviolent disorders of the late 1960s were the catalyst that convinced military leaders that race relations education must be provided to every member of the Armed Forces. The situation in today s Army is clearly much different from what existed years ago. Many changes have occurred, moving the Army s EO program from a strictly educational and training initiative to a multifaceted management program with clear goals and objectives. The concept of the EO program is to formulate, direct, and sustain a comprehensive effort to maximize human potential. It strives to ensure fair treatment of all soldiers is based solely on merit, fitness, capability, and potential in support of readiness. EO philosophy is based on fairness, justice, and equity. It places the responsibility for sustaining a positive EO climate within a unit on its commander. • 7. The Testament Of Isaiah And Isaiah Throughout the Old Testament God carried out his plan to bring His people back to Him. Often the people of Israel would fall away from their relationship with God by worshipping false Idols such as Baal or by disobeying His commands in general. One of the main ways God got his message of redemption to His people was via prophets, spiritually gifted individuals that God lifted up to communicate His will to the people of Israel. The prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah often were used to call Israel out on their wickedness, and to warn then of God s coming judgement that would teach them a lesson. It is clear from what the prophets wrote, that God very much intended to wipe the sins of the nation s away, one way or another. This is a message that still very much applies today, Isaiah and Jeremiah were meant to steer God s people back to Him and their messages with Christians today are supposed to do the same. Judah and Israel in their time were constantly full of sins and needing to be cleansed. In the beginning of Isaiah, he opens by stating that they were a sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the lord. (Isaiah 1:4, New King James Version). The sins of Judah and Israel were many and that is why God sent the prophets with the message they gave. In attempt to warn the people that disobeying God s commandments would lead to harsh punishment. It is apparent that God did respond to the sins harshly. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alice And The Video Games Alice and the Video Games Alice, an ignorant little girl from Alice and the Wonderland tumbled down the rabbit hole into a world of meaninglessness (IMDb); today, proponents of banning violent video games are following Alice, stumbling over themselves into a pitfall of a lack of substantial evidence and reasoning. An exemplary example of such a proponent is Eric Roberts, the uncredentialed author of the article Violent Video Games Produce Violent Behavior in Our Nation s Youth and Should Be Banned . On top of making groundless claims against violent video games, Roberts lumps in unrelated elements simply to appeal to pathos and vainly attempts to reel in his far fetched conclusions using a plethora of fallacies to back up his... In the latter half of his first argument, Roberts boldly claims Violent video games equate to violent behavior, especially in children whose brains are not fully formed yet and a game rated MA (Mature) doesn t stop a kid from playing it, yet there is utterly no evidence supporting these poor claims. In reality, according to the Entertainment Software Rating Board s official website, a majority of parents check the video game rating before purchasing it for their child (ESRB). Robert draws a hasty generalization in hopes that readers will gloss over such details and ignorantly agree with Robert s meaningless and false claims. A vast majority of Robert s argument is based around women being portrayed as helpless victims or sexual objects. Drawing on sympathetic feelings, Robert equates violent video games to sexual ones and generalizes them as a whole. While attempting to indirectly attack violent video games, he utilizes the straw man fallacy to prey on a vaguely associated, weaker target: sexual video games. He criticizes these sexual games to coerce compassionate support, a mere gaudy bauble for naive readers to blindly listen to Robert s argument. In fact, Roberts gives absolutely no evidence to state any link between violent and sexual video games, much less a link between how sexual video games translate into sexist or aggressive behavior in the modern world. Since then, nevertheless, the growth has been remarkable and today about 40 per cent of those qualifying as mechanical engineers by full time or sandwich study do so through the Higher National Diploma. Originally, the standard of the final assessed examination was matching to that of the H.N.C. though, of course, in more subjects and it was not known for H.N.C. and H.N.D. students to share the same class. Today, however, the standards are very much higher and method those of universitydegrees. It is often overlooked that the university year is shorter than college year, and that classes tend to finish well before examination period; so that, the H.N.D. course duration of some 2000 hours or so is much the same as that in a full time university degree sequence. The increase in numbers in recent years is undoubtedly due to the recognition accorded by industry to the merits of the course. Baron and Cohen (2002) suggested, in their E S theory, that male hunters gained an evolutionary advantage systematising over women who were much more empathetic. With their theory they suggested that during stress responses, men tend to be adapted for flight or fight, whereas females are not. Shields (1975) suggested that men and women evolved to have roles that complemented each other, in order for both genders to survive. This is supported by Ennis et al 2001) who found that men show a better fight or flight response, as during exams men s cortisol levels are higher than women s during the same time period. However, evolutionary explanations may partially explain why gender roles have developed but the fact that gender roles can differ globally would imply social factors are also involved, so the evolutionary explanations cannot fully explain gender roles. Another evolutionary explanation of gender development is mate choice, which suggests that gender role behaviours are related to reproductive strategies. It is thought that men will look for women who are young whereas women are usually more interested in the resources of a mate. This can be explained from an evolutionary perspective as mating with a physically attractive woman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

RenГ© Lalique was born in 1860 and first began designing fine jewelry in Paris in 1881. Lalique pursued increasingly more innovative experimentation in glass commencing around 1883. Early works used the familiar lost wax technique by which the model is made in wax while a mold is formed around the model. Then, the wax is melted and molten glass is poured into the mold. Lalique glass was made in this manner until approximately 1905 at which time the factory was redesigned for a larger production. Some of these creations are now on display at the Orrefors Glass Museum. The news that artists were engaged in a glasshouse for the first time attracted gifted glassblowers to Orrefors. The union of glassblowers and artists led to joint development of techniques such as Graal and Ariel , and to further development of the traditional Bohemian cooper wheel engraving. On the whole, Orrefors offered broad scope for experiment and innovation with new techniques being developed and older ones refined and this is still the case today. Success led to the arrival of new designers. The graphic artist Vicke Lindstrand came to Orrefors in 1928, and designed glass that was painted or engraved. Nils Landberg and Sven Palmqvist came at the end of the 1920 s as engravers, apprentices, and after service as assistants to Simon Gate and Edward Hald became full fledged glass artists during the 1930 s. This essay will explain at what times government officials should have the right to exercise eminent domain, the extent of which the current occupant should be satisfactorily compensated, and an engineer s duty to the public to only accept projects where the previous propertyowners are content in the arrangements of their dismissal. The government should exercise eminent domain cautiously to ensure that individual property rights are seldom taken away. In 2005, the ruling of Kelo v. The classic idea that provided the primary motivation for stem cell therapy is that delivery of the appropriate stem cells would repair a damaged heart via active myocardial regeneration resulting from transdifferentiation of the administered stem cells.19 Some researchers believe that exogenous stem cells may also stimulate proliferation of endogenous cardiac precursors or stem cells through neovascularization or paracrine signaling actions. Given the small fraction of stem cells that remain within the heart after injection and the multiple organs to which the stem cells migrate, it is imperative that better methods of tracking stem cells be developed to determine the fate of these cells after transplantation. By no means am I negating the sincerity of the thousands who participated in the peace movement of the 1960s or the punk movement of the late 1970s in fact, I have come to embrace many of the ethos and philosophies of these cultural movements. However, I am saddened by the number of young people I see who seem to believe that they are punk because of the kind of shoes or brand of clothing they wear. Read on to find out that yes, non conformity is a form of conformity. Today it seems as if the original philosophies of these groups have been forgotten. Their historical records were dirtied over time by the stereotypes of non participant generations and the bias of the media. The government, political parties, and focus and interest groups have tried to find ways to increase the motivation to vote while easing the votingprocess. Some conservative people tend to vote to Republican, while some people tend to vote Democratic. Voters have their own political attitudes, and these attitudes determine how society goes, whom they are voting for, and what kind of political parties they are supporting. Many elements have the ability to contribute the political attitudes, such as family, gender, education, income, religion, age, race, and etc. According to Ginsberg et al., the first place where people start forming their beliefs on politics is their families and society (148). This idea explains the reason some areas in the U.S. have more Democratic representatives while others have the majority of their residents being Republicans. The fact that most people possess these ideals means that in the event that the candidates in a ballot do not have the qualities that a particular group of voters is looking for, these voters will not partake in voting. When the impact of race in political socialization is factored in, it becomes increasingly evident that some people of one race are unlikely to spend their time voting for a candidate who does not represent their beliefs pertaining to racial issues. The Word Superiority Effect ( Wse ) Abstract The word superiority effect (WSE), recognition of letters better in words than non words, has been observed in normal adults, but is not observed in studies done with normal children. The supported theory is that this is caused by the development of top down processing sometime during the children s growth. A Reicher Wheeler task will be conducted on normal children in 5 different age groups as well as adults. The expected results are to see an increasing WSE as the age of the children increases. Key Words: Word Superiority Effect , Pseudoword Superiority Effect, Reicher Wheeler, Top Down Processing, Children, Adults. Top Down Processing Development: Reicher Wheeler Task Results of Middle to Late Childhood Age Children The word superiority effect (WSE) is the phenomenon that subjects are more likely to recognize a letter accurately in a word (WINGS) than in a psuedoword, strings of letters that follow known language rules and are pronounceable (WUNGS), a non word, strings of letters that do not follow known language rules and are not pronounceable (WCHDS), or just in a mask (TXXXX) (Coch, 2010; Grainger, 2003; Jordan, 1996). This is observed through The Reicher Wheeler Paradigm. In this test a subject is shown a string of letters and asked to identify the letter in a specific location using a forced choice task (Grainger, 2003; Hildebrandt, 1995; Jordan 1996). The effect has been observed in many empirical studies, and has been seen in adults across ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Conclusion For Universal Health Care Premise 1: A universal health care system would reduce health care costs. Premise 2: Universal health care improves overall public health. Premise 3: Universal health care would encourage patients to practice preventive medicine. Premise 4: Healthcare would be affordable to all citizens if made universal. Conclusion: Therefore, implementing a universal health care system in our society would greatly benefit everyone. Reducing Health Costs With a universal health care system, the government would have control and run the system, therefore, the cost of healthcare would be regulated. A universal health care system would be regulated by the government, so costs overall would be reduced with a more monitored system to reduce inflated costs for tests, hospital stays and procedures. (Ireland, 2017) When you regulate medical costs, the cost of medical coverage, supplies, and prescriptions are more affordable for everyone. Improved Overall Public Health With universal healthcare being more affordable, everyone gets equal access to medical health care. This can lead to a reduction in the number of medical issues suffered by our society. According to Howard K. Koh, M.D., we can absolutely expect for overall public health to improve if we provide quality, affordable health care coverage for all Americans. (Cohen, 2009) This means people would miss less work and/or school. This also means that more people could be seen for some of the most basic ailments such as colds, ... • 41. Who Is Harriet Wilson s Fallen Women Fallen Women: Sexual, Racial, and Moral Inequality in Harriet Wilson s Our Nig Since time immemorial, women have undergone massive discrimination, prejudices, and gender restrictive norms established by patriarchal society. In modern history, these restrictions include limited access to education, unequal remuneration placements and limited job advancement. In nineteenth century, however, women had to struggle with different type of discrimination. Particularly, they had no freedom because everything in their life was controlled by men. Such agenda was supported by marriage laws, which basically stated that husband owned his wife. Divorces or runs away from miserable marriages were unacceptable and punished by the society as well as the law.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Racial differences play a significant role in marriage dissolutions a scenario that is replicated in Wilson s novel. Mag, surrounded him a priceless gem , her virginity, and gives birth to a child who dies within a few weeks (6). In this regard, women are portrayed as assets that are at the disposal of men to not only procreate but also satisfy men s sexual desires. The woman is afterwards disowned by the white gentleman punctuating a miserable life into the gloomy future. Fundamentally, the loss of virginity to a person who is neither a husband nor a prospective mate is considered a failure notably in the novel. For this reason, as a tempted and fallen woman, Mag is despised by her own family, community and becomes an outcast of the society, a fallen woman. Upon the untimely separation from the white gentleman, it is evident that life will no longer be a bed of roses for Mag considering the fact that the child that could serve as a unifying factor between her and the man, dies only days after his/her entry onto planet earth. • 42. Why BPA Is Bad Everyone one at some point in their life has drank from a plastic bottle, whether it was a baby bottle, a plastic disposable water bottle, or just a water bottle you have used for exercise. If you are still weary about which plastic water bottle or glasses you buy there is a way you can check if it safe. There numbers with recycling symbols located somewhere on the plastic item. The numbers you want your water bottle are 1,2,4, and 5, while you want to avoid the numbers 3, 6, and 7. The reason you want to avoid 3,6, and 7 are because those are the numbers that still contain BPA. The number 3 contains PVC plastic that usually used as peanut butter jars and squeeze bottles. The plastic numbered 6 is made with polystyrene. The Chemical is normally found in things such as styrofoam trays. Last number 7 are non recyclable and are made with polycarbonate. Another important thing people should know is that not all BPA free water bottle are not so safe and maybe even as bad as just having the BPA in the bottle. There are two different things I found some research on that have been used to replace BPA one being BPS (bisphenol S) and the other called Tritan. As for BPS in January of this year scientists found out that BPS is messing with the brain development of the zebrafish, why this is important to us is because we share 80% of genes with the zebrafish. There were also urine test that found out that about 81% of people in the US have trace amounts of this chemical. As for Tritan, a lot is still known about it because it is still fairly new, but in some experiments conducted it had a higher estrogen effect on animals than BPA did and another no effect whatsoever.. Now only studying, testing, and time will tell if it is truly safe or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Fall of Both Mubarak’s Regime and the Legal... Introduction : By the end of Mubarak s rule, the legalised political opposition in Egypt was already a mirror to the regime it was presumed to challenge: discreditable, central, aging and undemocratic. Systematic state repression and internal divisions fragmented the opposition and deviated it from the role assumed by its counterparts in liberal democracies. Instead of competitive interaction with the regime, the legal opposition stationed itself as an integral part of the authoritarian polity. Years of regime opposition dynamics ended with the latter s alignment with the regime and becoming more of a domesticated opposition. This clientelist relationship was necessary for the survival of the semi authoritarian regime. It enabled it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 1990s were labeled as Egypt s deliberalisation period (Stacher, 2004). They were regarded as the years when the regime gave birth to new forms of authoritarianism that do not fit into classic categories of one party, military, or personal dictatorship (Schedler, 2002). Since the publication of Huntington s Third Wave in 1991, many analysts have anticipated a democratic transition to occur in Egypt. Indicators of the progress of the democratization process in Egypt included the emergence of thousands of civil society groups, legal political parties, and numerous newspapers, as well as the increasing role of the judiciary and rule of law. Yet, despite the arguments that Egypt s managed process has a democratic endgame, the 1990s witnessed a rollback of civil society and political opposition. The deliberalisation process began in the early 1990s and was initially directed at Islamist activism and political aspirations. When the regime successfully dealt with the Islamists, it began to curtail its own weak opposition parties. Of the sixteen legalized opposition parties in Egypt, seven have been closed since 1998. The regime also prevented prominent independent members of parliament from using already existing parties to challenge the ruling party (Stacher, 2004). As Kienle (1998) argues: Since the ... • 44. Sub Saharan African Countries Have Experienced Macro... In recent years, sub Saharan African countries have experienced macro economic growth. The growth rate per annum averaged 5.2% over the past decade between 2000 and 2011 (Kulundu, 2013). The growth rate has outpaced Middle East, Latin America and Eastern Europe after being the slowest growing region for many years. In Tanzania, the growth rate averaged 6.8% from 2005 to 2011. It was ranked 1st in East Africa and 8th in sub Saharan Africa. In 2014 the GDP was expected to grow by 7.2% and continue growing at annual averaged rate of 7.7% in medium term (MOF, 2014). Ifzal et al (2007) observed that, economic growth does not guarantee all people to benefit equally, because growth itself is not sufficient for povertyreduction. If poor or marginalized people are left behind, it will result in increase of income inequality (Ifzal et al 2007). Vijayakumar et al (2012) showed the importance of economic growth by identifying its effect in the economy. It s observed that, if GDP growth decreases by 1%, it might trap 20 million more people into poverty. Therefore, it is evident that unstable growth will definitely have severe adverse impact on vulnerable groups of people in the society. Furthermore high and increasing levels of inequality may reduce the effect on poverty reduction resulting from a given rate of growth. Thus inequality has implications for social cohesion and political stability required for growth sustainability. This has been studied in several research works that have ... In all countries, including China, novel generations have required to find a different conduit than that of their previous leaders. Conventional values become obsolete and are replace with what the younger society deems as noteworthy. Familyconcentrates on this very subject. In the novel, three brothers struggle against the outdated Confucian values of their elders. Alike in their dislike of the traditional Confucian system of their grandfather, yet very different in their interactions with him and others, begin to reach beyond the ancient values of Confucianismand strive for a breath of freedom. Their struggles against the old values lead to pain, suffering and eventually achievement for the three of them, however at a harsh price for two brothers. The story of the first brother, Chueh hsin, is unquestionably the most upsetting and saddest in this novel. Cheuh hsin has lived his entire life in reverence and constant conformity with his elders. Although he is an enlightened person and does not unconditionally agree with many of the Confucian values, which he follows, he feels that his position in the social hierarchy of the family leaves him no other choice. As the first son of the first son he is the head of his household. As a result, he is forced to take on responsibilities he does not want. For this very reason, his two younger brothers, Cheuh min and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Public Relations Should Not Be Practiced Public relations can be seen as a deliberate and planned effort to establish and maintain understanding between an organisation and an audience. Public relations is the key to effective communication between two parties. In addition to this, communication is the biggest part of how meanings circulate within our society. Its strategy is determined by values that organize and frame public ideas. Public relationsmay also look after the emotions and behaviours of a group of audience and to support their influence of their attitudes and behaviours. It may use propagandato attempt to affect a certain audience and for example, citizens of a given society. Propaganda is manipulative and persuasive when it gives misleading information as it attempts to cause an affect on the emotions of the given audience. In many cases, it is hard to break propaganda and public relation apart as the two have a huge similarity. It has been noted by many critics that because the two are so similar, public relations should not be practiced. They add that public relation is an oxymoron and is an unreal possibility. The purpose of this essay is to provide an overview of public relation and its history and to investigate whether it helped and helps marginalized populations have a voice in the media. I will argue that in the past public relations had limited participants and was less helpful than the open and democratic societies we live in today, that allows more groups to have a voice and to speak out. ...
