How Did Al Capone Use Manipulation
Chief gangster Al Capone used violence, intimidation, and manipulation to shape the identities of the
citizens in Chicago IL. Capone was capable of doing what needed to be done, he wouldn t stop for
anything. Capone would use strategies such as violence to get whatever he wanted and needed, and at
the end he would always get it. Al Capone was known for usually gunning down all his enemies, by
1929, authorities counted about six teen gang related murders; this brand continued until 1964,
reaching a high of sixty four murders in one year during that time. Since the citizens of Chicago knew
what Capone alone was capable of made them know not to mess with him and walk with caution,
especially his enemies. Another way he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He did this took take others off his radar and save himself from many situations he found himself. The
first way Capone used manipulation was when anyone discovered his acts and his behavior he would
bribe and threaten them, even including higher ranking authorities like police men. This was
happening because everyone in Chicago knew what he was capable of and didn t want to get on his
bad side, some would even partner up with Capone to be on his good side to there s no chance of him
hurting their close ones and friends. The second way Capone manipulated others was on the day of the
St.Valentine s Massacre, Capone was the one who set it all up, yet he stayed in his home in Florida
with his girlfriend while his gang did the work. This made the police not know at first that he was in
charge and was the one behind it all until later clearance, he would ve let his gang be in charge an take
them blame if the police hadn t added it all up and lead it to him. The final way Capone used
manipulation was when he was finally put into jail people would make accusations of how he was
messing with the guards and the system to receive treatment so his time there wasn t as bad. Since
people already knew who he was most wouldn t mess with him, so when they knew how he was able
to mess with the guards in the facility some would try and stay as far as they can from

Urban Poverty in China
Over the past two decades, China has experienced rapid economic growth, which has also brought
about a rise in social and economic inequality. A nation that once operated under the principle of
egalitarianism, China now struggles with a level of inequality that has surpassed most of its East Asia
neighbours. In the 1980 s, poverty was a problem restricted mainly to rural areas, but recently it has
forayed into urban areas as well. Since the mid 1990 s, urban poverty has grown at a very fast pace
under the influence of globalization (Fulong, Webster, and Yuting 5). The economic restructuring of
China is a huge contributor to this phenomenon. The Chinese government officially recognized urban
poverty as a problem in 2001 through a report ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The earliest of these attempts was by expanding higher education, which succeeded in matriculation,
but did not provide sufficient stimulus towards consumption as families opted to save for higher
education. The attempt to commercialize the housing market also ended up in a similar scenario, as
families opted to increase their savings in order to afford the higher prices charged for apartments
(Riskin and Qin 25). The urban poverty problem arises from the disparity between lack of income
growth and massive growth in social wealth (Fulong, Webster, and Yuting 37). In order to remedy this
problem, the government should not develop policies targeting only the poor; instead, it should ensure
that there exists a resource framework that is not only adequate for rich and middle class needs, but
one that is accessible to everyone. A strategic readjustment that ensures commensurate growth in both
social and economic wealth would be highly beneficial to the people (Wanlong and Wong 26). The
growth of incomes for residents should be strengthened and should also be accompanied by reforms in
state owned corporations.
One of the ways to remedy the consumption problem is through a rise in income levels and
implementation of reforms in monopolized state owned industries to bring about income
redistribution. Income redistribution is a government role that can be attained through proper fiscal
policies like tax reforms to ensure a balanced and fair

The Birth Of Nuclear Medicine
Introduction It is difficult to determine the birth of nuclear medicine due to the many contributions
made my scientists of carious fields. However, most notably, during bla blah Understanding the uses,
benefits and side effect of nuclear medicine is crucial due to its significant and ongoing contribution to
the medical field. Throughout this paper focus will be placed on how radioactivity has benefited the
detection, control and at times, complete elimination of cancer. Background Nuclear medicine is a
medical speciality whereby radiopharmaceuticals drugs containing radioactive materials called
radioisotopes are given to a patient in order to determine the severity of or treat a variety of diseases.
However, to understand this and the impact that different physics principles have on the function of
nuclear medicine, these principles must first be explained. Atoms; the building blocks of matter,
contain a centrally located nucleus inside of which there are positively and neutrally charged
subatomic particles known respectively as protons and neutrons. Electrons orbit around them and have
a negative charge. The name isotope is given to atoms with the same number of protons but a different
number of neutrons. When isotopes occur, they serve to stabilise the proceeding atom, however, if
there are too many or too few neutrons, then they become unstable and are known as radioisotopes.
Radioisotopes are often artificially created through irradiation, which is where an

Importance Of Leadership
Often times when you hear the word leader a variety of images come to mind. Maybe you picture an
explorer cutting a path through a jungle, or a politician giving a speech to thousands of individuals.
Many of us do not realize the leader inside of us until required to step up to the position. Leading a
group is something that I have never truly felt comfortable enough to do. I typically find myself
wanting to sit back and help others while going unnoticed. Being selected as a Yearbook editor was
never something that I expected of myself when applying for one of the 28 Yearbook positions during
my sophomore year. What started as a way to explore my slight interest in graphic design has grown

Going in to senior year with 3 Advanced Placement classes, a job, and involvement in multiple clubs,
I knew that Yearbook would have to remain one of my top priorities. Along with my Editor position, I

I believe that my role most nearly relates to the quote by Warren Bennis, Leadership is the capacity to

may not have the most important position on the yearbook staff, but I have come to realize that taking

controversial situations and help fill the voids of talent

six weeks up to four years. There are one baby, four infants and three preschoolers. In this
observation, I will describe the language development of child A and child B that are in the infant

Examples Of Misrepresentations In Haitian Poetry
Poetry have been a major tool for many Haitian writers to express the triumphs that they have and are
recently faced with, addressing misrepresentations that may have developed about Haiti, and to give
them a sense of hope and encouragement. In most Haitian poems you see the correlation of these
actions taking place in the defense of Haiti. Haiti has been a country who overcame many obstacles
such as; slavery, the Haitian revolution, recently the earthquake are continuing to go through many
more obstacles. Haiti as a whole have been a country for many years that have been up lifting each
other in various way, and poetry have been one of many of those ways. Patrick Sylvain, Emmanuel
Ejen, Devorah Major, and Rudwaan are examples of Haitian poets who paint a picture in a positive
light or even to portray a message of truth. In their poems Ports of Sorrow , We be Spirit People ,
Haiti: Statistics of loss and WONGOL all are poems with similar messages in different aspects of
light. The poem Ports of Sorrow by Patrick Sylvain is a poem about the pain that was developed from
the earthquake in Haiti and morn the lives of the people that were lost and a beautiful country that was
destroyed. We be Spirit People by Rudwaan is based on the Haitian revolutionary war, which was a
war fought by enslaved Haitian who defeated Napoleons army, Spanish and English as well and as a
result in 1804 Haiti became the first black independent country in the world. This poem sheds light on

George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty-Four 1984 Essay
Living in a society with limited freedom of expression is not, in any case, enjoyable. A totalitarian
system is a good example of such a society, because although it provides control for the people, it can
deny them a great deal of freedom to express themselves. The fictional society in George Orwell s
1984 also stands as a metaphor for a Totalitarian society. Communication, personal beliefs, and
individual loyalty to the government are all controlled by the inner party which governs the people of
Oceania in order to keep them from rebelling. Current society in North America is much more
democratic. It contrasts with Orwell s society of 1984 because communication, personal beliefs and
the people s loyalty to the government are all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The concept of Newspeak is designed to control personal beliefs of the citizens by limiting their form
of expression as Syme explains. But when the governing system is not followed, Thought Police are
used to prevent thoughts that oppose the nation. quot; How often, or on what system, the Thought
Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched
everybody all the time (Orwell, 6). There is no doubt that through both Newspeak and the Thought
Police the system of government in 1984 has adequately prevented the people from thinking against it.
When all this surveillance is placed on the people, they learn to comply with their country and
eventually begin to value it automatically. In our society personal belief is expressed in any way, shape
or form. From the different religious options that we can choose from, to the way we believe our
country should be run, we have an impact on it. We choose for ourselves what we believe. If we do
not agree with a certain point that our governments make we can act on it. As an example,
demonstrations and protests are often held which counter certain governmental policies; laws or
propositions are often spoken out against in public. The fact that these rebellious actions are not
punished by the government proves that the government is much more lenient than that of 1984. The

The Government Intervention Of International Business Essay
When governments amongst nations conduct in international business, it exposes them to increased
risks and costs through unfair trade and bribery in order to obtain a competitive advantage or power.
Mercantilism explains why the government intervention of international business increases the
chances of these risks. Mercantilism is the theory that explains, the government will maintain their
economy and trade to promote their own domestic industry at the cost of the other country leading to
unfair trade (Pettinger,2016). As all governments will not play by the same rules, there is an increase
in risks such as unfair tariff policies or bribery in order to gain a competitive advantage. In fact, many
governments across nations will use these unfair actions to gain an increase in power. Hill (2015)
states that nations like China are striving for a more neo mercantilist policy (a more modern theory of
mercantilism where economic power is the equivalent to a trade surplus) to gain a trade surplus.
During most of the 2000s, their exports have been increasing whereas their imports have not grown
because they have been limited by an import substitution policy. While China is able to benefit from
the trade surplus, it is at the cost of another nation where the money that will be paid for those imports
will decrease. Therefore, government intervention in international business increases risk like unfair
trading to gain a competitive advantage. The government also increases the cost of

Disadvantages Of Unclaimed Life Insurance
Imagine paying a huge number of dollars over many years for a life insurance policy to safeguard your
family, simply to have it go unclaimed when you died, leaving your beneficiaries with nothing.
Investigations into policies that were lost have led insurance companies to pay out hundreds of
millions of dollars to beneficiaries lately. Here s what you should know about unclaimed life
insurance, while regulators, insurance executives and courts wrangle over the best approach to address
the dilemma.
How advantages go unclaimed
It occurs. People move, age and lose track of life insurance policies they bought decades earlier.
Occasionally, policyholders deem it best not to do so, or neglect to mention life insurance policies to

Seven states and three companies supplied information.
The shield of insurance industry
Jack Dolan, vice president of media relations for the American Council of Life Insurers, says that the
value of unclaimed policies is a tiny number compared with the more than $60 billion a year that
companies pay out in life insurance claims.
We understand it s essential to people, that it can represent a heritage and also the wishes of a person
to pass on something to their families, he says. That is the reason why we take the matter very, very
seriously and we are working with regulators to get to the base of [it].
One of many disclosures of the investigations was that insurance companies did often check Social
Security death records for people to whom they were making annuity payments, but not for deaths of
life insurance policyholders in other words, firms check for deaths in a predicament that stands to save
them money, but not in one where it would cost

Open Source Security and The Kerchoff´s Principle
Introduction This lecture was given by Dr. David Mirza Ahmad one of chief mentors of Subgraph,
which is a open source security start up based out in Montreal. The talk was based on Kerchoff s
principle which states the security of any cryptographic system does not rest in its secrecy; it must be
able to fall into the enemy s hand without inconvenience [1]. The kerchoff s principle underlines the
fact that free software should be having reasonably good security. This fact is well understood by the
world of cryptography because cryptography is a black box where you never know what is happening
inside it. There are lot of security research communities across the globe, many are informal and low
budget though. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The community was defiantly open and the Symantec acquisition provoked strong protective
reactions.
Both hackers and security researchers have always shared their research enthusiastically. Someone
would be coming with a new class of attack, then the exploits begin to appear and the cycle continues.
Another notable example was the coming of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) in the mid late 1990 s.
IDS were in high gear selling their IDS by publicising to buy this box and never fear the hackers
again. IDS are designed to detect the various attack signatures in the real world. But their happiness
was short liví when Tom Ptacek and Tim Newsham published a paper that broke IDS.
Open Source and Security The researchers also write tools, often free software like BackTrack, Helix.
The world owes so much to the open source innovation like grassroots. There were several others used
for vulnerability assessment like ISS(which was eventually acquired by IBM) and SATAN released in
1995 that did perform a variety of checks although it was controversial during its time.

Version 1 of SSh was designed and implemented as freeware in 1995.

The castle review Essay
The Castle
The Castle, directed by Rob Sitch, is an Australian comedy, which delves into the lives of a
stereotypical Australian family, the Kerrigans. The film touchs on issues close to home in a
humourous way. The audience is introduced to the classic Aussie family, narrated in the viewpoint of
the youngest of the Kerrigans, Dale.
The setting is a lower class Melbourne suburb, adjacent to an airport. The head of the Kerrigan
household, Darryl Kerrigan (Michael Caton), is simple, but a man of incredible pride. He is a typical
Aussie bloke who is adored by his family yet disregarded by society. Nonetheless, seemingly
oblivious to reality, Darryl lives and rules in his own home, which he calls his castle. quot;A mans

As the story unravels, the Kerrigans are faced with a major dilemma, in the form of a compulsory
acquisition of their home. The land on which their house is built, is needed by the corporate giant
Airlink to build the largest freight handling facility in Australia. And so the Kerrigans embark on an
odyssey to save their castle from acquisition and consequent demolition.
This film was far from technically amazing. No special effects were notably employed, as wowing
audiences with technical brilliance was not the intent of this movie. This lack of effects resulted in the
film appearing to have been recorded in the eighties. The need for a crisp, effective image was
ignored, and the result was a quot;Homey quot; film. Sound was fairly standard too. Technicalities
aside, there were many other opportunities for The Castle to redeem itself. A very commendable
aspect of the film was the cast s superior performances. Despite all cop outs on Australians, the
character portrayals was very entertaining. The simple dialogue was easy to understand, and the plot
was kept you in suspense and was original.
It is quite a disturbing thought to think that this is the way that the Australian film industry presents
itself to the rest of the world. It is movies like The Castle that give the rest of the world the impression
that Australians are pathetic, uneducated, classless yobbos. This impression was

The Iran Iraq lasted from September 1980 to August 1998, which made it the longest conventional war
of the 20th century. The consequence of the war cost billions of dollars and millions of lives. The
result of the war, although stalemate would be a critical factor that would shape the future of the
Middle East. The historical deep rooted hostile relationship that emanated from the ethnic Arab
Persian and religious Sunni Shi ite tensions between the two neighbouring countries contributed to the
conditions necessary for war. Although many historians and scholars argue that the deep rooted ethnic

However, as the war progressed Iraqi offensive began to become ineffective and Iranian resistance
became stronger. Iran s advantage in raw manpower enabled them to carry out surprise attacks and the
use of human wave attacks. However, the trend changed again and the war favoured Iraq in 1982,
inflicting serious Iranian casualties. Moreover, it has been noted that during the war, both states
misjudged the loyalty and unification of their opposition s population.
The lengthy war between the two neighbouring countries has been noticeable for its use of ballistic
missile attacks, chemical weapons, and attacks on third country oil tankers in the Persian Gulf.
Generally the assessments on the cost of the Iran Iraq war tend to focus on the lost oil revenues,
declining gross national products, infrastructure destruction, and the number of casualties. Research
conducted suggest that around 1.2 million lives were lost in the war, around 2.2 million people were
wounded, and around 1.5 million people were forced to flee due to the violent conflict. Furthermore,
approximately 157 Iranian towns with populations of 5 thousand or more were damaged or totally
destroyed during the war, and about 1,800 villages located around the border were nearly wiped off
the map. Before the war there had always been a rivalry between the two states, ranging from border

familiar with this prayer so I just held the hands of those near me and bowed my head out of respect.
Specific attendees of the meetings appeared more active and attentive than others. Some of them
seemed as though they did not want to be there and looked miserable. About one or two of the
members even fell asleep a couple of times. Maybe some members went because they had to or
because they just wanted to help tell themselves that they are trying. This really interested me because
it is important to take notice that some people go and progress due to being active and others are just
forced. In the case of being forced it is very easy to go to the meeting and just not be attentive or
active. During the meeting I felt very enlightened. The topic of forgiveness is very broad and is even
relevant in my own life. The viewpoint on the topic was very different and interesting. They talked
more about being forgiving of ourselves because we are the ones that cause ourselves to react

Essay on A Review of Peter Brown’s Augustine of Hippo
A Review of Peter Brown s Augustine of Hippo
Peter Brown s Augustine of Hippo is a dense, scholarly work outlining the entire life of the Catholic
bishop. The University of California Press in Berkeley, California published the work in 1967. My
version was the 1973 second paperback printing, found in the University library. Its smallish,
scholarly, serifed, typewritten font allows for a instant respect for the subject matter: the words are at
first imposing, but then revealing as their serious tone complements the complexity of the text. The
pages are studded with footnotes, filling out this work with evidence of Brown s exhaustive research.

This want of something more concrete but metaphysical leads straight into the fifth chapter,
Manichaeism. This details the future bishop s obsession with the mysteries and dualism of the
Manichean teaching, as well as Augustine s work at spreading the Manichee philosophy, as well as his
love for what it made him, rather that what it actually taught. Friends, the sixth chapter, details his life
with his unnamed concubine among his celibate Manichee comrades. Next, the seventh chapter, titled
Success, outlines Augustine s first taste of fame as a writer and as a public speaker. Thus, Brown ends
part I.
Brown begins part II, after the chronology, with a chapter on Ambrose, the bishop of Milan that
helped Augustine to convert with his interpretation of the pagan philosophers and the similarities in

Anne Frank, Nelson Mandela And Louis Zamperini
After reading many stories about people being incarcerated by their environments, you would think
they would just accept it or give up. Shockingly in many of the stories I ve read the exact opposite
happens and they fight through these tough situations and always manage to stay positive no matter
what is thrown at them. Anne Frank, Nelson Mandela and Louis Zamperini are perfect examples of
people who were physically and emotionally incarcerated and they never let it bring them down.
Instead, they used their incarceration as motivation to better the situation they were in.
Reading many of the poems in class really gives you a sense of how a person is feeling in such little
words. It describes the environment around them, how they are dealing with is and what their thoughts
are on it. A poem I feel does incredibly well with this this Some Advice to Those Who Will Serve
Time in Prison . This poem describes a man in prison with a lot of time to serve and how he feels
about it. He describes prison as making him start to lose himself and how much it really affects his
outlook on life. Prison makes him feel powerless and like he has no control of his life because he can t
make decisions for himself anymore. He can t control when he eats, showers or even when he wakes
up in the morning, basically the only thing he can control is how he deals with this new way of life.
He says [p]art of you may live alone inside, / like a stone at the bottom of a well (Judith Tannenbaum,

Teddy Boys Research Paper
During post war Europe, in Britain one of the first youth subculture the Teddy Boys and the forgotten
Teddy Girls emerged around the 1950s. This subculture soon spread throughout the United Kingdom
and became largely associated with the American Rock n Roll genre of music. As the subculture began
to spread, they began to be seen as a rebellious British youth subculture. By then the Teddy Girls by
were overshadowed by the Teddy Boys since there were more of the boys than the girls. Not only that,
they were deemed boring by the media because their role at the time were still focused at home. The
name Teddy Boys derived from their style of fashion that attracted youths from their generation. Their

But soon the media started to portray the Teddy Boys as misfits to society as they began to become

earned a reputation for street fighting, low level crime activity, and attacks on British s growing West
Indian community (McKay et al. 898). It was their same attacks on the West Indian community that
lead to their decline and a rise in another subculture. Even though the Teddy Boys weren t shown in a
positive light, this youth subculture became a breakthrough for other subcultures to emerge. Both the
Teddy Boys and Teddy Girls set up fashionable trends for both male and female to follow, even
though the males dominated this subculture. With it, they also set an example of what to expect as

the currents could have helped them get to land after getting off of Alcatraz Island. The MythBusters

Narrative Essay On Riding The Train
Since I ride the MRT 3 and LRT 2 lines to get to school and back home every day, I m no stranger to
commuting by train. Trying not to get mauled by the rush hour crowd or sitting sleepily on a bench,
wishing I didn t have to get up so early, is routine I don t give much thought to, other than as
complaint fodder. As long as I m concerned, I just have to get somewhere and it s not necessarily a
peaceful ride. Because I never rode the LRT 1, I assumed it would be the same as my usual commute.
However, for once, I decided to pay attention to the little details.
I rode the LRT 1 train on a rainy day. Maybe that was partially why the station was so dark when I
entered. Barely any sunlight lit up the area, and there were little to no working light bulbs either. Cool
winds blew past me, but as soon as people started crowding up in line it got hotter. When the groaning
train arrived it looked like a scene from an old movie complete with a rickety train and black and
white visuals due to the darkness.

As soon as I stepped out from the long ride, the noise from the streets hit me once more. There were
the sounds of honking, engines running, and people shouting. A warm breeze immediately passed, and
I missed the little comfort of the train s air conditioning. Everything was brighter as well, because
there was no longer a roof and tinted windows to separate me from the sun that had emerged.
I had finally arrived at my destination but I didn t count how many minutes had passed. I wasn t
concerned with rushing anywhere. Despite the little inconveniences, riding a train with no destination
in mind was actually quite peaceful. With the steady motions, the buzzing white noise, and not having
to worry about getting somewhere, it reminded me to relax and let everything go by, instead of
constantly worrying about the

Sentences By Bonaventure
When one believes in God he naturally revealed to them through the goodness in his creation. By
looking at the surrounding world one can see God s fingerprints. In his work, Sentences, Bonaventure
modestly defines creation as as the loving outflow of a loving God whose infinite dynamic goodness
is shared in a limited dynamic way. Creation is God s other. God doesn t have to create since God is
infinitely bountiful and self communicative within Himself. Creation flows out of the infinite fountain
of divine self diffusive goodness because God is creative and loving. The Father freely desires to
create because God is love, and perfect love can never be self contained it must be shared.
Bonaventure indicates that the world exists by virtue of the free creative power of divine love.
Creation is a free act of divine goodness spilling forth from the infinite divine community of love.
Bonaventure uses the term emanation to describe the expression of creation from the loving
community of a triune God. Emanation used in the Christian sense means that creation flows out of
the infinite, transcendent one. Bonaventure metaphorically writes, Creation is like a river, which flows
from a spring, spreads throughout the land to purify and fructify it, and eventually flows back to its
point of origin. This image speaks to the intimate connection between creation and the triune God as
well as creation s cyclical nature. Bonaventure writes that creation can find its origin in a single

How do story telling techniques in Japanese comic media differ to the western tradition?
The differences between the Eastern, Anime and Manga and the Western, Comic and Cartoon
counterparts are clear from the outset. Apart from the obvious contrast in styles, there are many more
distinctions that can be made between the two.
The words Anime and Manga refer to two separate and distinct, but interrelated things. The word
Anime is used to describe Animation of Japan, similar to the animation made popular in America, by
companies like Walt Disney. The word Manga is used to describe the Comic Books of Japan, similar

It is also a strange phenomenon that almost all feature length animation by Americans are musicals.
Rousing musical numbers designed to excite the senses in a multimedia experience. Hardly any other
popular medium except animation has made a successful musical in the last 20 years. Animation in
America on the most part is strictly for kids. No one dies, no one gets hurt. The evil villain s plans are
defeated, but the villain himself escapes to hatch new villainy in the next episode. One great difference
between Japanese and American TV Series is that the Japanese TV Series are designed to last only one

Recently however several American cartoons have broken the mould and chosen to tackle real world

Research Paper On Coca-Cola Bottlers
Coca cola bottlers incident led to the company s compromised reputation Gladys Loretta in Surabaya
Sunday 3 May 2015 07.20 WIB
The Coca cola bottlers incident where union members and the workers are murdered started on the
1990s. This incident is considered as a corporate crime. A corporate crime is a crime made by a
company that harms other people s lives. Sometimes they harm the ecosystem as well. However, on
this case, the Coca cola bottlers did not harm the ecosystem but they hurt their own workers and the
union members. Coca cola bottlers hired illegal paramilitary groups to intimidate, threaten, and kill
their own workers. These paramilitary groups also threatened to lease a bomb attack on the union
headquarters. All they did was to scare the lives of the union members and the workers. They also
hired far right militias of the United Self Defence Forces of Colombia (AUC) to murder nine union
members. Coca cola was able to dodge from this case as they claimed that they weren t involved with
the death of the union members. The killer itself is the AUC soldier and they got an order from the

Canterbury Tales Characteristics
In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales which portrays a community of people from differing
social backgrounds that come from all of England for a pilgrimage to Canterbury. On this pilgrimage
they wish to receive blessings from St. Thomas á Becket, an English martyr. They all meet at the
Tabard Inn in April, the beginning of spring. Chaucer whom is the narrator goes on to describe the
other twenty nine pilgrims, and the Host of the inn suggests that they should each tell two stories to
help pass the time. Whoever tells the best tale will receive a free meal from the Host. Many of these
tales reflected the medieval society and culture at the time. The Canterbury Tales has many different
genres such as courtly romance, Breton, tragedy, and etc. Also, it was written in Middle English as it
was tales that the common people of London could enjoy. In total there are 24 tales, some
uncompleted however, with the tales that are finished or nearly finished, an interesting one is Franklin
s tale. In Chaucer s general prologue the Franklin is characterized as a ruddy and cheerful man. The
Franklin is a middle class citizen that works as the sheriff and tax auditor. In line 338 9 the Franklin is
described as: For he was Epicurus very son, That held opinion that plain and pure delight... meaning
that his goal in life was to pleasure or to live in the moment. The Franklin s house was never short of
food such as fish or pies. These lines also describe him as: Saint Julian he was in his own country (l.
342) Saint Julian was the patron saint of hospitality meaning that Chaucer is stating that the Franklin
is a generous and kind man. One could also conclude that he was an alcoholic, but besides that is a
overall good citizen. However, he was broken one of the seven deadly sins which is being gluttoned.
In the prologue of his tale, the Franklin gives a disclaimer that he is a simple man and does not know
the rhetoric. Franklin states that he I slept never on the Mount of Parnassus, Nor learned Marcus
Tullius Cicero (l. 721 2). He is referring to the home of Muses, which is the home of music and poetry,
and Cicero the scholar. The Franklin is going to tell this story as best as he can through his simple
speech. The tale

Trench Warfare In The Trenches Essay
Soldiers within the trenches would illustrate their despair by singing, We re here because we re here,
we re here because we re here, we re here because we re here, we re here because we re here. World
War 1 was ignited and many perceived it would be quick and easy. However, as trenches were dug,
stalemate developed. The growing development of trench warfare was evident in the Western Front.

Thus, trenches began to connect, so a soldier could be supplied with food, mail from their family,
ammunition, and fresh troops. Later, trenches contained first aid stations, and some even small
kitchens. Most importantly, there were machine gun stations that would aid a soldier under attack, and
dugouts that would sustain a large amount of troops during an assault. Most soldiers could spend up to
two weeks in a trench at a time if they lived through it. First, they would spend time in the front line
trench, fighting the enemy. Then, they would progress to the support trenches, and later rest. Even if
the soldiers were not fighting, they were put to repair the trenches, move supplies, clean weapons, and
undergo inspection or guard duty. Trenches had to be repaired constantly due to bombardment from
the enemy or rain. In fact, daily life within the trenches was foreseeable, Thirty minutes before

What Is The Similarities Between The Time Machine And Herland
The Oxford English Dictionary defines a genre as kind; sort; style , a particular style or category of
works of art (OED). Otherwise, a genre is the process of classification. In relation to The Time
Machine and Herland, the quest in each text is different. However, the quest embarked upon in each
novel has a starting point of order, follows through to disorder and lastly ends with order restored or a
new sense of harmony. Both texts are categorised as Utopian/Dystopian novels. Utopia is defined as
senses relating to an imaginary or perfect place . Dystopia is an imaginary place or condition in which
everything is as bad as possible (OED). In this essay I will discuss the quest in relation to The Time
Machine by H. G. Wells and Herland ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Time Machine and Herland are no exception. In The Time Machine, the Time Traveller develops
a romantic relationship with Weena. This text is also a medieval chivalric tale as it has the features of
a knightly fairytale. For example, the novel contains the quest, the hardships and the devotion to the
lady. We see the knight romance story when the Time Traveller saves Weena from drowning in a
shallow .The following day she gives him flowers to thank him: We passed each other flowers and she
kissed my hands. I did the same to hers (Wells, P38). This is a similar aspect to when the knight wins a
battle and the lady presents him with a hankie chef for gratitude. However, it has been questioned
whether Weena is female with it being said that she is sexually ambiguous. She is also childlike as
stated by the Time Traveller as he thinks that it is childish affection that made her cling to him (P 39).
In H. G. Wells: Prophet of Our Day, Vallentin reaffirms the idea of the romance in The Time Machine
stating that she was a greatly loving child wife to the Time Traveller (P 106). In Herland, love and
romance is in a more controlling way with hints later on of equality. The male protagonists see
themselves as the more dominant figures and the owners of their female companions because that is
what they are used in Victorian England. This causes dysfunction and distrustfulness within the quest
of the text as the female protagonists are used to being in control and dominant because they are not
usually in the presence of males. The male adventurers have a chauvinist view on what they will find
in Feminisia. A prime example of this within the text is when playboy Terry says the line Girls and
Girls and Girls (Gilman, Ch 1). The three males laugh at the idea of a society ran by women. They
believe that these women are going to be like the submissive Victorian women that they have in
England.

In the 1989 elections, although Rajiv Gandhi and Congress won more seats in the 1989 elections than

In a study for the Cato Institute, Jeffrey A. Miron, senior lecturer on economics at Harvard University,

In The Waiting Room Elizabeth Bishop
The poem, In the Waiting Room shown within Elizabeth Bishop s book The Complete Poems 1927
1979 is an engaging and descriptive poem about a child s self coming into adulthood. Elizabeth, the
child, narrates the story from her point of view, reading the National Geographic while waiting for
Aunt Consuelo to be finished with her appointment. The National Geographic however, is a gateway
which portrays Elizabeth s adult side, showing her as a child what is to come as she grows older. Aunt
Consuelo and those within the waiting room during the time when Elizabeth looks around adds on to
this point, making her ask more questions about her own name, as well as her becoming like her Aunt.
Which started with her picking up and flipping through, the yellow margins of the National

The idea behind the book National Geographic is to transport the reader into a location that they have
not been too. For this poem however, it transports Elizabeth to her being an adult. Showing her what is
to come with adulthood, Babies with pointed heads wound round and round with string; black, naked
women with necks wound round and round with wire like the necks of light bulbs. Their breasts were

Examples Of Motivation In Second Language Acquisition
Abstract
It s undoubtedly true that motivation in second language acquisition ( SLA) hints to the learner s
attempt and desire to learn a language and their attitude toward learning language (Dornyei, 1994) .
Motivation is regarded as a vital element in the develop of any activity . It plays a pivotal role in
obtaining the desired goals. Motivation in SLA has been crucially investigated in variety contexts such
as (Feng Chen ,2009; Wu Wu, 2008;Melendy,2008; Wang,2007; Lamb, 2007). As the components

Introduction In respect of the other kinds of learning , second language acquisition (SLA) does not
take place in a gap. When it comes to SLA in general and English as a second language (ESL)
specifically , several factors are involved. One of which is motivation , According to Melendy, 2008,
From the Latin root Movere , Motivation refers to a system that begins with a need and leads to a
behavior which moves an individual through achieving a goal . The most complicated and difficult
task which involves a multiplicity of psycho sociological and linguistic factors is motivating students
in the English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom, ( Dornyei, 1998; 2010a); Although, most
English teachers will assert to the crucial role motivation plays in the realm of teaching and learning
process. Many SLA researchers hold this view point that studying motivation is prominent, owing to
they believed learners even those with the most abilities can not achieve long term goals without
sufficient motivation. In other words, good instruction and appropriate curriculum might not be
enough to guarantee success.

Michael Lewis Teacher and Student of Language Essay
Introduction
Michael Lewis formulated an approach which has changed the conventional perspective of both
teacher and student towards language. This revolutionary approach created some intense and
controversial debates about its validity. Lewis (1993) was a naturalist who argued that any effective
method in teaching must be based on the fact of learning prefabricated chunks of language rather than
the individual words. He based his argument on the corpora data, which indicate that language
consists of a large quantity of prefabricated chunks. The lexical approach can be described as a
developed method rose from previous linguistic concepts. The techniques that underlie the approach
include noticing the nature of the language rather than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lexical approach emphasizes that language consists of chunks, which go together in order to
produce coherent text and discourse. Therefore, the Lexical approach calls for urgent attention to the
centrality of the lexicon in structuring language (Lewis, 2002). Schmitt also agree with that and
comments:
The lexical approach can be summarized in a few words: language consists not of traditional grammar
and vocabulary but often of multi word prefabricated chunks. The lexical approach is a way of
analysing and teaching language based on the idea that it is made up of lexical units rather than
grammatical structures. The units are words and chunks formed by collocations and fixed phrases
(nd.p215).
The lexical approach in language teaching seeks to centralize multi word unit or chunks in syllabus
and language teaching activities in .
The taxonomy of the lexical approach s items
The lexical approach distinguishes that words are the largest, familiar and independent units of the
lexical items category, they are considered as the basic units of lexical items. These units may play a
central role in utterance meaning, which can be changed if a word changed. For example, give me a
cup of coffee/tea/beer (Coady, 1997). Although, words always appear partially dependent in speech
and writing, words also can behave fully independent in language. For instance, Sure! Stop, Yes.

Imagine living your life on a regular day for you and BOOM! Your life is now suddenly completely
changed, everything you thought was normal or part of you has changed. This is what natural disasters
tend to make happen in your life, they affect us in many ways. In this essay i will discuss the various
elements each author uses to express the causes and effects of disasters. The author Jacqueline Adam
clearly expresses the causes and effects of disasters through the use of text structure, choice of
vocabulary and use of data and details.
Both text selections: The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger and Submerged City express the cause
and effects of disasters through text structure. Text structure refers to how the information within a ...

One similarity between the stories the perfect storm and submerged city is both stories use some facts
in which are shown to be terrifying, by knowing this you can clearly see how horrifying being in an
natural disaster can be. In the perfect storm it states they had ship reports of thirty meter seas. That s
ninety feet. I would imagine truthfully, in retrospect that if the whole us swordfish fleet had been
caught in the center of that thing, everybody would ve gone down. We only saw, i don t know, maybe
fifty waves, max . In submerged city it states howling winds rush between new york city s skyscrapers
shattering windows and uprooting trees. A 7.6 meter (25 foot) wall of water sweepes over Lower
Manhattan, submerging the financial district and popular neighborhoods like chinatown and little italy.
Subways filled with seawater.millions of new yorkers who evacuated the danger zone can t return to
their devastated homes . Based on these details and information i can infer how serious these issues
are, just by describing the situations personally gave me chills, i mean no one will ever want to be in a
situation like that and in both texts they strongly show this. One difference between the stories the
perfect storm and submerged city in use of data and details is that in the perfect storm te details or

Properties Of Nannoparticles Enhanced Composites
Introduction: This work is more focused on exceptional optical properties of metal NPs to promote
efficient models to govern the complex properties of nanoparticles enhanced composites. It contains
matrix design along with electrical and optical characteristics. To eliminate the inadequacy to portray
the film particles distribution and to gauge the dielectric properties of NPs doped films, a novel
alteration proved to be more amenable as well as need low processing temperature compared to the
traditional glass methods. Basically, the general process involves the formation of metal NPs from a
soluble salt form via various methods like annealing and photochemical reactions [11], however,

Samples acquired from Si(substrate) and Si(glass) went through hot annealing upto 500C with a
gradient of 200C. Numerous characterisation methods were performed to analyse the Au doped film
[12]. Results: Electron microscopy image in fig.2 implied the conduction (e ) of Au spheroidal
aggregation depicts the association of surface plasmin resonance(SPR)[12] with the band shown by a
tapered absorption peak around 520nm, following the surface functionalization concentration of Au
particles was 61.410 3M owing to have an absorption coefficient of about 3995M 1cm 1 at
wavelength 522nm [12]. Absorption spectra displays (Fig.3.) the SPR band rising from Au NPs in
TiO2 Au films as well undoped films is observable in each temperature variant films by solid and

results in a change to red with the insertion of Au particles in Titanium dioxide lattice at 522nm. There
is no indication of this association with just undoped films with Au particles. Though, the optical
intrusion of hardened sample results in a wide absorption belt around 800nm at 100 C transformed
to blue around 375nm at 500C. Doping concentration did not transform SPR peak locus, due to the
small volume fraction of Au, since the peak is much affected by the annealing temperatures (refer.

Anne Sexton Wanting To Die
In her poem Wanting to Die , Anne Sexton explains the feeling of suicidal ideation to an unnamed
individual. Following the form of contemporary poets, she takes an incredibly taboo topic and
discusses it in a conversational tone, thereby shocking the reader and forcing them to think about the
issue in an unconventional way. The poem lacks a rhyme scheme and meter, although it is structured
into three line stanzas, and thus aligns with the free verse style of writing typical of contemporary
poets. Since you ask, Anne Sexton opens her poem with these threes words, throwing the reader into
the middle of a seemingly ordinary conversation (Sexton 1). Neither the name of the inquirer nor the
question they asked is revealed to the reader, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sexton refers to these as still born (another topic too sensitive to be discussed in everyday
conversation) in order to describe the lack of choice in life or death (Sexton 19). Perhaps confusing at
first, the next 2 lines clarify that suicide has only known death and desires so strongly to return to that
dazzled state of nothingness (Sexton 20). Sexton, in a most disconcerting fashion, states that even
innocent children, unaware of the trials of life, would be fond of a sensation so sweet. Such a bold and
shocking statement would have challenged one s ideas about suicide and promote thought into the
sensitive matter. She calls suicide itself a drug, and once someone has tried it, their new passion in life
is to seek and find that drug (Sexton 23). Furthermore, she compares death to a bone, sad and bruised,
hurting and a permanent part of her being. In a sort of twisted logic she implies that life is somehow
an injury that must be undone. It s a kind of balance between self pity and self expression that is
commonly found in confessional poets. A belief common among depressed populations is that they are
inherently bad people, simply for existing. Sexton expresses this in the last line of this stanza
comparing her body to a cruel prison that must be broken to release her captive breath. The complex
an overlapping analogies for death challenge the reader to pay

Victim Blaming Research Paper
Internalized victim blaming can be psychologically and emotionally exhausting, and it can be a huge
obstacle in healing after sexual assault. In 1998 Babalwa treated herself badly after being sexually
abused by someone whom she knew and trusted. That resulted in her pregnancy. In that same year she
met her lover whom later became her husband. Before committing to each other as husband and wife,
they behaved as a married couple, and there were no limits in their relationship. Her worst moment
was when she found out that her son was the fruit of sexual abuse and having to face her attacker,
come in contact with the person who took her innocence and changed her life forever. Every time she
would see him, she was felt with rage, uncontrollable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The situation got worse since I kept this problem a secret and after my son discovered that my ex
husband is not his father, my son started using cocaine and all sorts of drugs It was then that I broke
into pieces, I lost hope and lost my job of which I occupied an important position. It was like the
ultimate embarrassment for me to be told that I had to be hospitalized in a mental hospital for
depression due to my terrible situation, I thought to myself, how am I supposed to deal with the anger?
This violation of my self efficacy and personal autonomy? Am I to be held accountable for that? I
reacted with anger, hateful, bitterness, fearful, insecure and confused. I couldn t say the word rape, I
harboured resentment, I was humiliated and infuriated, I told the nurses very articulately that I was not
sick mentally and there was no need to move to the hospital, I was told I would spend 6 months for
recovery. I got revolted against this situation and took part of the Inner healing meetings held every
Tuesdays 5pm. There was a specific meeting that changed my mind set as I always thought I m fine, I

Disadvantages Of Fair Trade Coffee
In Canada, coffee represents 18% of all consumed beverages, making it the second most popular drink
in Canada, water being the first. Fair trade coffee ensures that the coffee farmers who produce Canada
s second most popular beverage are paid fairly. Fair trade coffee is a partnership that relies on the
collaboration of coffee producers, traders, buyers, and consumers to produce equitable and sustainable
changes in the way we trade coffee (Liberman, S., R.N. 2008). Fair trade certification was developed
in 1988 to guarantee that farmers are paid a stable minimum price for their product and to empower
small scale coffee producers (Cole, N. L., Brown, K. 2014). However, due to a growing market, fair
trade coffee certification is losing sight of its original goal to help create fair trade circumstances for
small scale coffee producers.
The Fair Trade for All implementation which aims to increase the market for fair trade coffee beans by
allowing coffee plantations, who produce large amounts of coffee, to become fair trade certified.
However, supply for fair trade coffee is larger than the demand. This makes it much harder for small
coffee producers to sell their coffee as they must compete with large coffee plantations who can
produce much more coffee, ultimately putting small scale coffee producers at a disadvantage (Cole, N.
L., Brown, K. 2014).
Fair trade certified farmers are paid more for their coffee beans than non certified farmers, however,

Torture In 1984
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever.
In 1984, by George Orwell, the tyrannical form of government powered by Oceania ensures that all
natives are divergent in their own way by utilizing the method of torture to receive the outcome that
Big Brother wants, which happens to be power. The different levels and amount of violence is outlined
by the severity of the crime that the subject perpetrated. Regardless of the subject s cooperation, Big
Brother makes ends meet and not only gathers the information, but also successfully incorporates the
subject s mind to believe what the government is doing is ethical. 1984 s theme of prolonging order
and power is reinforced by the severe amount of torture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the time when this book was written, George Orwell was living in a world where communism was
alive and well. The message Orwell was trying to get across to the people of his time was that the
communist party s main outlook was to gain absolute power. With World War II in progress,
communism may look pleasing to the people because no one has more power than another, but more
often than not, they end up turning into dictatorships, which is what George illustrated in the book. He
has seen the disastrous effects it left on the Soviet Union, and he wanted to steer the people away from
the tight grips of communism. Orwell s ability to depict the future as being ruled by a totalitarian
government by using violence, greatly assists the people living in his time to steer clear of communist
ideas and ways.
In the government illustrated by George Orwell in 1984, subjects under rule are restricted to follow
the laws outlined by the government itself. Committing any sort of crime results in violence for the
use of discipline until the subject complies to what they have done, which is different from most
governments who choose to exterminate those who break the law. The theme of maintaining order,
and having over all is embellished by the government s use of

the new generation of Irish music and dance. They do so by taking old traditions and spicing it up,
creating incredible shows. A few things that will catch your eye is how I found this performance, what
others thought of the performance, the setting, the significance, the instruments and voices, the
rhythm, my research on Irish music, and finally my reaction. Finding this event was the easy part, but

The potato famine in 1844 is a very large piece of Irish history, and it left more than a million people
dead from starvation and disease (Dorothy Denneen Volo 2018). This caused the Irish diaspora, and as
they moved to England the Irish brought with them the broadside ballad tradition that thrived in
England and Ireland in the mid 19th century , which was songs about sailors and soldiers, merchants
and innkeepers that reflected the newly industrialized British Isles (Cohen, Norm, Kevin S. Fontenot,
Steven Loza, Richard March, Paul F. Wells and Maria Williams 2018). This left an impact, and now
Irish musical styles can be found in many English ballad tunes. This isn t however, a form of
traditional Irish folk music, actually much of the Irish music known in America in the late 18th and
early 19th centuries was music that had roots in oral tradition, but which had been processed by
classically trained composers and arrangers (Norm Cohen 2014). The Irish weren t fully accepted in
England and were discriminated against, and when the English passed laws forbidding the Irish to
speak their own language, they turned to music to help them remember important events and hold on
to their heritage (Dorothy Denneen Volo 2018). Today, that discrimination is gone, and Ireland gained
their independence in 1922. Now, Ireland s finest musicians play

Dave Barry Driving While Stupid Summary
Driving while stupid. By: Dave Barry In this short story, Dave Berry talks about his experiences with
bad drivers. He starts his argument with stating that he should tell you what he saw on the interstate
one night and that this is not just any old interstate that he wants to tell his readers about. But first he
has to tell that downtown Miami is the home of the worst driver, well to be exact he stated I 95 in
downtown Miami is the proud home of the worst darned drivers in the world. (Barry pg.571) He also
states that others might say that the city of Miami doesn t have the worst drivers and that their city has
the worst drivers by saying: I realize some of you are saying: oh yeah? If you want to see bad drivers,

why he was driving so erratically: He was watching a music video. He was watching it on a video
screen that had been installed where the sun visor usually goes, RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIS FACE,
blocking his view of the road (Barry pg. 572) Barry explains this experience while making it clear to
his readers that he doesn t mean to sound like an old fud But he distinctively recalled learning in

the need arises (you never know!) to steer . (Barry pg.

Compare And Contrast Martin Luther King Jr And Malcolm X
The Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s and 1970s paved a way towards a more racially harmonious
America. Two famous men during this movement for the black community were Martin Luther King
Jr. and Malcolm X. Two very different men with two very different ideologies and two very different
strategies towards equality. One was credited as the Father of the Civil Rights Movement while
another one was a hostile extremist who encouraged violence only for self defense. Both men made an
impact on civil rights for the black community, but people were more gravitated towards King than
they were to Malcolm X. On August 28th, 1963; one of America s most memorable speakers gave one
of the most important speeches in history. King s I Have a Dream ... Show more content on

and Malcolm X giving two completely different speeches, both had similar strengths in these
speeches. Both men were powerful speakers who provoked powerful speeches. They were sure to
clarify what they meant and where they stood, and both knew just what to say to their audience. These
two men were very popular in their time and had many followers, but the people tended to gravitate
more towards King than Malcolm X. King knew how to make his speeches memorable, not just by
who wrote it but how he wrote it. King used metaphors, used repetition, and quoted well known
documents in his speeches. I have dream is a well known and remembered phrase in his speech, but is
not said until closer to the end of his speech. One hundred years later... and Now is the time... and let
freedom ring... are also phrases King repeats. By using repetition in his speech, he made it more
memorable to his audience and made the meaning of his speech clearer. Using metaphors painted a
more illustrated picture for his audience. King described America s promise of freedom as a check
marked insufficient funds, which made his speech more illustrated and therefore, more memorable to
his audience. Malcolm X used metaphors as well, though did not use as much repetition in his speech
like King did. Malcolm X s speeches, while just as powerful, were not as memorable. His main points
were expressed, that the Honorable Elijah Muhammad was a prophet and was the only means of
escape from the doomed White America. Malcolm X does not quote the Bible word for word but does
explain the prophets and their stories. The main prophet he uses is Moses, and he compares and
contrasts Moses to Elijah Muhammad. He compares how Pharaoh did not take Moses seriously and
that now White America is doing the same to Muhammad. Even comparing the Civil Right leaders to
the magicians Pharaoh hired to throw off Moses people. They have been hired by this white
government to make our

The contribution of George Martin (producer of Sgt Pepper) also played a major part in the success of
Sgt Pepper, his knowledge of classical music training is also apparent throughout the album.
This unique way of recording created a culturally significant album. They used innovative ideas in the
studio some of which were being used for the first time in history on such a commercial level thus
creating a genre very much their own. Using all the techniques in song writing and technology they
have made a lasting impact on popular music. Their ideas have helped redefine pop music as a
culturally significant art form. Sgt. Pepper has influenced so many other artists to explore different
styles and techniques in song writing and recording, it has opened new doors in to worldwide culture;
bringing together a collective of worldwide music into a single album which has lead the way in
defining popular music in our society.

  • 2. How Did Al Capone Use Manipulation Chief gangster Al Capone used violence, intimidation, and manipulation to shape the identities of the citizens in Chicago IL. Capone was capable of doing what needed to be done, he wouldn t stop for anything. Capone would use strategies such as violence to get whatever he wanted and needed, and at the end he would always get it. Al Capone was known for usually gunning down all his enemies, by 1929, authorities counted about six teen gang related murders; this brand continued until 1964, reaching a high of sixty four murders in one year during that time. Since the citizens of Chicago knew what Capone alone was capable of made them know not to mess with him and walk with caution, especially his enemies. Another way he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He did this took take others off his radar and save himself from many situations he found himself. The first way Capone used manipulation was when anyone discovered his acts and his behavior he would bribe and threaten them, even including higher ranking authorities like police men. This was happening because everyone in Chicago knew what he was capable of and didn t want to get on his bad side, some would even partner up with Capone to be on his good side to there s no chance of him hurting their close ones and friends. The second way Capone manipulated others was on the day of the St.Valentine s Massacre, Capone was the one who set it all up, yet he stayed in his home in Florida with his girlfriend while his gang did the work. This made the police not know at first that he was in charge and was the one behind it all until later clearance, he would ve let his gang be in charge an take them blame if the police hadn t added it all up and lead it to him. The final way Capone used manipulation was when he was finally put into jail people would make accusations of how he was messing with the guards and the system to receive treatment so his time there wasn t as bad. Since people already knew who he was most wouldn t mess with him, so when they knew how he was able to mess with the guards in the facility some would try and stay as far as they can from ... • 3. Urban Poverty in China Over the past two decades, China has experienced rapid economic growth, which has also brought about a rise in social and economic inequality. A nation that once operated under the principle of egalitarianism, China now struggles with a level of inequality that has surpassed most of its East Asia neighbours. In the 1980 s, poverty was a problem restricted mainly to rural areas, but recently it has forayed into urban areas as well. Since the mid 1990 s, urban poverty has grown at a very fast pace under the influence of globalization (Fulong, Webster, and Yuting 5). The economic restructuring of China is a huge contributor to this phenomenon. The Chinese government officially recognized urban poverty as a problem in 2001 through a report ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The earliest of these attempts was by expanding higher education, which succeeded in matriculation, but did not provide sufficient stimulus towards consumption as families opted to save for higher education. The attempt to commercialize the housing market also ended up in a similar scenario, as families opted to increase their savings in order to afford the higher prices charged for apartments (Riskin and Qin 25). The urban poverty problem arises from the disparity between lack of income growth and massive growth in social wealth (Fulong, Webster, and Yuting 37). In order to remedy this problem, the government should not develop policies targeting only the poor; instead, it should ensure that there exists a resource framework that is not only adequate for rich and middle class needs, but one that is accessible to everyone. A strategic readjustment that ensures commensurate growth in both social and economic wealth would be highly beneficial to the people (Wanlong and Wong 26). The growth of incomes for residents should be strengthened and should also be accompanied by reforms in state owned corporations. One of the ways to remedy the consumption problem is through a rise in income levels and implementation of reforms in monopolized state owned industries to bring about income redistribution. Income redistribution is a government role that can be attained through proper fiscal policies like tax reforms to ensure a balanced and fair ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, most notably, during bla blah Understanding the uses, benefits and side effect of nuclear medicine is crucial due to its significant and ongoing contribution to the medical field. Throughout this paper focus will be placed on how radioactivity has benefited the detection, control and at times, complete elimination of cancer. Background Nuclear medicine is a medical speciality whereby radiopharmaceuticals drugs containing radioactive materials called radioisotopes are given to a patient in order to determine the severity of or treat a variety of diseases. However, to understand this and the impact that different physics principles have on the function of nuclear medicine, these principles must first be explained. Atoms; the building blocks of matter, contain a centrally located nucleus inside of which there are positively and neutrally charged subatomic particles known respectively as protons and neutrons. Electrons orbit around them and have a negative charge. The name isotope is given to atoms with the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons. When isotopes occur, they serve to stabilise the proceeding atom, however, if there are too many or too few neutrons, then they become unstable and are known as radioisotopes. Radioisotopes are often artificially created through irradiation, which is where an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Maybe you picture an explorer cutting a path through a jungle, or a politician giving a speech to thousands of individuals. Many of us do not realize the leader inside of us until required to step up to the position. Leading a group is something that I have never truly felt comfortable enough to do. I typically find myself wanting to sit back and help others while going unnoticed. • 9. George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty-Four 1984 Essay Living in a society with limited freedom of expression is not, in any case, enjoyable. A totalitarian system is a good example of such a society, because although it provides control for the people, it can deny them a great deal of freedom to express themselves. The fictional society in George Orwell s 1984 also stands as a metaphor for a Totalitarian society. Communication, personal beliefs, and individual loyalty to the government are all controlled by the inner party which governs the people of Oceania in order to keep them from rebelling. Current society in North America is much more democratic. It contrasts with Orwell s society of 1984 because communication, personal beliefs and the people s loyalty to the government are all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The concept of Newspeak is designed to control personal beliefs of the citizens by limiting their form of expression as Syme explains. But when the governing system is not followed, Thought Police are used to prevent thoughts that oppose the nation. quot; How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time (Orwell, 6). There is no doubt that through both Newspeak and the Thought Police the system of government in 1984 has adequately prevented the people from thinking against it. When all this surveillance is placed on the people, they learn to comply with their country and eventually begin to value it automatically. In our society personal belief is expressed in any way, shape or form. From the different religious options that we can choose from, to the way we believe our country should be run, we have an impact on it. We choose for ourselves what we believe. If we do not agree with a certain point that our governments make we can act on it. As an example, demonstrations and protests are often held which counter certain governmental policies; laws or propositions are often spoken out against in public. The fact that these rebellious actions are not punished by the government proves that the government is much more lenient than that of 1984. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Government Intervention Of International Business Essay When governments amongst nations conduct in international business, it exposes them to increased risks and costs through unfair trade and bribery in order to obtain a competitive advantage or power. Mercantilism explains why the government intervention of international business increases the chances of these risks. Mercantilism is the theory that explains, the government will maintain their economy and trade to promote their own domestic industry at the cost of the other country leading to unfair trade (Pettinger,2016). As all governments will not play by the same rules, there is an increase in risks such as unfair tariff policies or bribery in order to gain a competitive advantage. In fact, many governments across nations will use these unfair actions to gain an increase in power. Hill (2015) states that nations like China are striving for a more neo mercantilist policy (a more modern theory of mercantilism where economic power is the equivalent to a trade surplus) to gain a trade surplus. During most of the 2000s, their exports have been increasing whereas their imports have not grown because they have been limited by an import substitution policy. While China is able to benefit from the trade surplus, it is at the cost of another nation where the money that will be paid for those imports will decrease. Therefore, government intervention in international business increases risk like unfair trading to gain a competitive advantage. The government also increases the cost of ... Open Source Security and The Kerchoff´s Principle Introduction This lecture was given by Dr. David Mirza Ahmad one of chief mentors of Subgraph, which is a open source security start up based out in Montreal. The talk was based on Kerchoff s principle which states the security of any cryptographic system does not rest in its secrecy; it must be able to fall into the enemy s hand without inconvenience [1]. The kerchoff s principle underlines the fact that free software should be having reasonably good security. This fact is well understood by the world of cryptography because cryptography is a black box where you never know what is happening inside it. There are lot of security research communities across the globe, many are informal and low budget though. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The community was defiantly open and the Symantec acquisition provoked strong protective reactions. Both hackers and security researchers have always shared their research enthusiastically. Someone would be coming with a new class of attack, then the exploits begin to appear and the cycle continues. Another notable example was the coming of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) in the mid late 1990 s. IDS were in high gear selling their IDS by publicising to buy this box and never fear the hackers again. IDS are designed to detect the various attack signatures in the real world. But their happiness was short liví when Tom Ptacek and Tim Newsham published a paper that broke IDS. Open Source and Security The researchers also write tools, often free software like BackTrack, Helix. The world owes so much to the open source innovation like grassroots. There were several others used for vulnerability assessment like ISS(which was eventually acquired by IBM) and SATAN released in 1995 that did perform a variety of checks although it was controversial during its time. Openssh Version 1 of SSh was designed and implemented as freeware in 1995. The job of creating a new version of SSH and OpenSSh was taken by OpenBSD. By the year 1999 it was no longer a freeware. It turned out to be an enormous success when the whole world abandoned telnet, rsh, rlogin for OpenSSH The OpenSSH continued to innovate, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

• 14. The castle review Essay The Castle The Castle, directed by Rob Sitch, is an Australian comedy, which delves into the lives of a stereotypical Australian family, the Kerrigans. The film touchs on issues close to home in a humourous way. The audience is introduced to the classic Aussie family, narrated in the viewpoint of the youngest of the Kerrigans, Dale. The setting is a lower class Melbourne suburb, adjacent to an airport. The head of the Kerrigan household, Darryl Kerrigan (Michael Caton), is simple, but a man of incredible pride. He is a typical Aussie bloke who is adored by his family yet disregarded by society. As the story unravels, the Kerrigans are faced with a major dilemma, in the form of a compulsory acquisition of their home. The land on which their house is built, is needed by the corporate giant Airlink to build the largest freight handling facility in Australia. And so the Kerrigans embark on an odyssey to save their castle from acquisition and consequent demolition. This film was far from technically amazing. No special effects were notably employed, as wowing audiences with technical brilliance was not the intent of this movie. This lack of effects resulted in the film appearing to have been recorded in the eighties. The need for a crisp, effective image was ignored, and the result was a quot;Homey quot; film. Sound was fairly standard too. Technicalities aside, there were many other opportunities for The Castle to redeem itself. A very commendable aspect of the film was the cast s superior performances. Despite all cop outs on Australians, the character portrayals was very entertaining. The simple dialogue was easy to understand, and the plot was kept you in suspense and was original. It is quite a disturbing thought to think that this is the way that the Australian film industry presents itself to the rest of the world. Moreover, it has been noted that during the war, both states misjudged the loyalty and unification of their opposition s population. Its smallish, scholarly, serifed, typewritten font allows for a instant respect for the subject matter: the words are at first imposing, but then revealing as their serious tone complements the complexity of the text. In his work, Sentences, Bonaventure modestly defines creation as as the loving outflow of a loving God whose infinite dynamic goodness is shared in a limited dynamic way. Creation is God s other. God doesn t have to create since God is infinitely bountiful and self communicative within Himself. Creation flows out of the infinite fountain of divine self diffusive goodness because God is creative and loving. The Father freely desires to create because God is love, and perfect love can never be self contained it must be shared. Bonaventure indicates that the world exists by virtue of the free creative power of divine love. Creation is a free act of divine goodness spilling forth from the infinite divine community of love. Bonaventure uses the term emanation to describe the expression of creation from the loving community of a triune God. Emanation used in the Christian sense means that creation flows out of the infinite, transcendent one. Bonaventure metaphorically writes, Creation is like a river, which flows from a spring, spreads throughout the land to purify and fructify it, and eventually flows back to its point of origin. Wells: Prophet of Our Day, Vallentin reaffirms the idea of the romance in The Time Machine stating that she was a greatly loving child wife to the Time Traveller (P 106). In Herland, love and romance is in a more controlling way with hints later on of equality. The male protagonists see themselves as the more dominant figures and the owners of their female companions because that is what they are used in Victorian England. This causes dysfunction and distrustfulness within the quest of the text as the female protagonists are used to being in control and dominant because they are not usually in the presence of males. The male adventurers have a chauvinist view on what they will find in Feminisia. A prime example of this within the text is when playboy Terry says the line Girls and Girls and Girls (Gilman, Ch 1). The three males laugh at the idea of a society ran by women. They believe that these women are going to be like the submissive Victorian women that they have in England. ... In The Waiting Room Elizabeth Bishop The poem, In the Waiting Room shown within Elizabeth Bishop s book The Complete Poems 1927 1979 is an engaging and descriptive poem about a child s self coming into adulthood. Elizabeth, the child, narrates the story from her point of view, reading the National Geographic while waiting for Aunt Consuelo to be finished with her appointment. The National Geographic however, is a gateway which portrays Elizabeth s adult side, showing her as a child what is to come as she grows older. The most complicated and difficult task which involves a multiplicity of psycho sociological and linguistic factors is motivating students in the English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom, ( Dornyei, 1998; 2010a); Although, most English teachers will assert to the crucial role motivation plays in the realm of teaching and learning process. • 36. Michael Lewis Teacher and Student of Language Essay Introduction Michael Lewis formulated an approach which has changed the conventional perspective of both teacher and student towards language. This revolutionary approach created some intense and controversial debates about its validity. Lewis (1993) was a naturalist who argued that any effective method in teaching must be based on the fact of learning prefabricated chunks of language rather than the individual words. He based his argument on the corpora data, which indicate that language consists of a large quantity of prefabricated chunks. The lexical approach can be described as a developed method rose from previous linguistic concepts. The lexical approach emphasizes that language consists of chunks, which go together in order to produce coherent text and discourse. Therefore, the Lexical approach calls for urgent attention to the centrality of the lexicon in structuring language (Lewis, 2002). Schmitt also agree with that and comments: The lexical approach can be summarized in a few words: language consists not of traditional grammar and vocabulary but often of multi word prefabricated chunks. The lexical approach is a way of analysing and teaching language based on the idea that it is made up of lexical units rather than grammatical structures. The units are words and chunks formed by collocations and fixed phrases (nd.p215). The lexical approach in language teaching seeks to centralize multi word unit or chunks in syllabus and language teaching activities in . The taxonomy of the lexical approach s items The lexical approach distinguishes that words are the largest, familiar and independent units of the lexical items category, they are considered as the basic units of lexical items. These units may play a central role in utterance meaning, which can be changed if a word changed. For example, give me a cup of coffee/tea/beer (Coady, 1997). The poem lacks a rhyme scheme and meter, although it is structured into three line stanzas, and thus aligns with the free verse style of writing typical of contemporary poets. Perhaps confusing at first, the next 2 lines clarify that suicide has only known death and desires so strongly to return to that dazzled state of nothingness (Sexton 20). Sexton, in a most disconcerting fashion, states that even innocent children, unaware of the trials of life, would be fond of a sensation so sweet. Such a bold and shocking statement would have challenged one s ideas about suicide and promote thought into the sensitive matter. She calls suicide itself a drug, and once someone has tried it, their new passion in life is to seek and find that drug (Sexton 23). Furthermore, she compares death to a bone, sad and bruised, hurting and a permanent part of her being. In a sort of twisted logic she implies that life is somehow an injury that must be undone. It s a kind of balance between self pity and self expression that is commonly found in confessional poets. A belief common among depressed populations is that they are inherently bad people, simply for existing. Fair trade coffee is a partnership that relies on the collaboration of coffee producers, traders, buyers, and consumers to produce equitable and sustainable changes in the way we trade coffee (Liberman, S., R.N. 2008). Fair trade certification was developed in 1988 to guarantee that farmers are paid a stable minimum price for their product and to empower small scale coffee producers (Cole, N. L., Brown, K. 2014).
