The Pros And Cons Of E-Learning
Today e learning is mostly delivered though the internet, although in the past it was delivered
using a blend of computer based methods like CD ROM. E learning provides the learners with the
ability to fit learning around their lifestyles, effectively allowing even the busiest person to further
a career and gain new qualifications. Overall, traditional learning is expensive, takes a long time
and the results can vary. E learningoffers an alternative that is faster, cheaper and potentially
better. The term e learning has only been in existence since 1999, when the word was first utilized
at CBT systems seminar. Other words also began to spring up in search of an accurate description

The Issue Of Illegal Immigration Essay
Securing Our Borders
Illegal immigration is an issue that plagues the border states and it must be controlled.
What should be done with illegal immigrants has been a hotly contested issue in the news and also
during the current election process. In Obama s Numbers April 2016 Update , Brooks Jackson
states that in 2014, 11.3 million illegal immigrants came into the US. The Democrats and
Republicans debate on whether amnesty or mass deportation is the better alternative on what to do
with these illegal immigrants. I personally believe that mass deportation is a more effective means
of dealing with illegal immigration due to it being more cost effective than amnesty, removing
potential criminals with ties to the cartels, and is unfair to people that have or wish to come into
our country legally. The costs of amnesty is far too high to be a real solution to the illegal
immigration issue. The Immigration Bill s $6.3 Trillion Price Tag , Robert Farley states that the
cost of amnesty ranges from $6.3 to $5.3 trillion over the next 50 years. That s about $126 billion
to $106 billion per year. In Trumps Deportation Plan Prohibitively Expensive , Dolla Estevez
states that Trump s deportation plan would require the federal government to spend roughly $400
billion to $600 billion to deport 11.3 million undocumented immigrants and prevent future
unlawful entry into the U.S. over a 20 year time period, (Estevez). This is a much easier pill to
swallow, as it will only cost $30

Eating Disorders As A Female Disorder
ABSTRACT
Eating disorders are one of the most prevalent mental disorders in the United States. Although this
disease is typically viewed as a female disorder, males are greatly affected and may go
undiagnosed and untreated due to the attached stigma. Thus, it is important to understand the risk
factors associated with the development of eating disorders in males. These risk factors include:
athletic involvement, sexual orientation, pre morbid obesity, and adverse childhood experiences.
Eating disorder type and symptom presentation also varies between males and females. Males
typically do not meet the criteria to be categorized as Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa,
causing their condition to be classified as Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. Symptom
presentation is likely to include binge eating and excessive exercise rather than restrictive eating,
purging, or other compensatory methods commonly seen in the female population. Several eating
disorder assessments are available for use in clinical practice, most of which have been geared
toward the female gender. New assessments, such as the Eating Disorder Assessment for Males,
have been developed recently to try to hone in on the typical male symptomatology and their
psychological processes. Prompt treatment of eating disorders, regardless of gender, is necessary to
prevent the development of medical and psychological comorbidities. This process cannot begin
until the diagnosis has been made; therefore, additional

Defining Polity And The State
Introduction and definitions
Mostly, it is difficult to define polity. As one of the three forces of social power along side
economy and culture polity existed in one form or another in every human society (that we know
of). In the process, It shaped human interactions throughout history, controlled the production
process, controlled the distribution of surplus, controlled who had access to recourses and
privileges, controlled the knowledge production process, controlled and shaped the nature of class
struggle, and controlled the nature of conflict. While it is difficult to examine all these aspects in
this short essay, I will start first with defining polity, and second, I will examine how some of the
major theories had conceptualized polity and the state.
One can define polity as the structure that includes actors and institutions that are organized within
a hierarchical order. This hierarchical order is organized vertically and horizontally, and this
organization shapes the interaction between these actors and institutions on the one hand, and with
other structures within the larger society on the other hand. These actors and institutions work
together within a clearly established system, towards maintaining the status quo, and the interest of
the elite (economic, political, and cultural elite). The different units of polity (actors, bureaucracies,
and institutions) work together within an established culture that is enforced by the authority and
power of the state,

Poverty and Underdevelopment of India
Health education linkages inequality in distribution of stock of human capital means
underinvestment on the one hand and mal investment on the other, as total and per capita stocks of
human capital figures in women and backward castes indicate. Perhaps, the main reason lies in the
failure of human investment revolution in economic thought to really revolutionize common
thinking. individuals as well as state policy makers still perceive educationexpenditure as
consumption and as a burden on the state which reduces public savings. it is misleading to treat
public expenditures of backward castes and women as welfare but must be treated as capital
formation .
Poverty and underdevelopment of India does not permit adequate investment in general, including
education. From the private angle, weaker sections who should invest more in education have their
present consumption needs focusing on survival where education is perceived as luxury. Even if
people took loans, they prefer investment in more tangible and resale able assets which yield higher
ROR in short gestation periods to investment in human capital. The state is constrained by its
available resources and by its welfare expenditure approach to education. Further, the capital market
is too poorly organized to provide funds for investment in education. Thus to bring equity in
distribution of human capital between different groups serious efforts have to be made towards
reducing discrimination in schooling, improving

Cloning Individualism
Results May Vary: Adam Phillips s Theory of Cloning and The Paradoxical Apotheosis of
Individualism Adam Phillips s essay Sameness Is All takes the form of a dialogue with two
children to introduce the fantasy of cloning in which everyone is identical. Specifically, Phillips
observes that cloning is a denial of difference and dependence which leads to a refusal of need
(92). However, Phillip remains mindful that such fantasy of physical or psychological sameness is
implausible as everyone is different even clones. One then questions the significance of such
wanting of sameness, or if the sense of sameness serves any purpose. Using the concept of Selfand
Otherthat Joanne Finkelstein examines in The Self as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader sees that the Self and the Other appear to exist in an obligate symbiotic relationship,
where both the Self and Other are dependent on each other for continued existence, and elucidates
the reader on the interdependency of the Self and Other.
After highlighting the interdependency of the Self and Other, Finkelstein uses this association
between Self and Other to delineate the adverse consequences of this symbiotic relationship. By
identifying the halo effect as a source of social pressure to conform, Finkelstein allows the reader
to see Phillip s theory of cloning as a feasible solution to the inherent issues of social injustice and
despair in this concept:
DeJong and Kleck (1986:66) maintain that...the overweight not only do not have an acceptable
physical appearance but are also perceived as characterologically flawed..the halo effect, which
explains why attractive people are gratuitously assigned other valued attributes, can be seen to work
in reverse for the overweight who are instead attributed with deficits of character. (181)
The halo effect mentioned by DeJong and Kleck refers to individuals being perceived as having
socially desirable personality traits on the basis of desirable physical attributes, and thus
gratuitously assigned other valued attributes. Conversely, an unattractive individual will be
perceived as having socially

Comparing The Social Science Fiction Novel 1984 And The...
A dystopia is a futuristic, imagined universe in which oppressive societal control and the illusion
of a perfect society are maintained through corporate, bureaucratic, technological, moral, or
totalitarian control. A more recent dystopia is the book or movie The Giver. The book starts out
as what seems like a utopia where all pain, disease, and conflict have been abolished. As the book
progresses and the main character Jonas gains insight into what the people have willingly given
up their freedoms and individualities for the so called common good of the community, it
becomes more and more obvious that the community is a horrible place in which to live. Many
authors use their dystopian novels to voice their opinion of where the world is heading. The social
science fiction novel 1984 written by George Orwell has many similarities and differences as the
science fiction movie The Matrixdirected by Lana Wachowski. In the dystopian worlds in both
the book and the movie, the characters have similar feelings towards how their worlds are ran.
In 1984 characters Winston and Julia share the same feelings towards their world, they both
decide to rebel against the government, this lead the two to fall in love with each other. Winston
first begins to rebel by going into one of the shops owned by the proles, this was against the rules
because ВЁParty members were supposed not to go into ordinary shops ( dealing on the free

Ecological Effects of Anti Communism Strategies by the...
During the early stages of the Cold War (1945 1954), the United States became so dedicated to
stopping the spread of communism that they completely ignored the potential ecological effects of
their strategic decisions, signifying a complete disconnect from contemplative ecology.
During this period under the Truman Administration, there was an overwhelming societal belief
that national security concerns trump environmental safety. As a matter of fact, there was zero
concern from the federal government towards environmental safety, as evidenced by the United
States Federal Government Spending for the Fiscal Year of 1950. Zero concern equalling zero
dollars being spent on pollution abatement , and most appalling protection of biodiversity ... Show

For the consequences of wiping out American cities with atomic weapons would result in the
simultaneous destruction of Soviet cities from an American counter attack. The ultimate result
would be mutually assured destruction on both sides. The ecological reprocussions from such a
scenario would be disasterous. Both the Americans and the Soviets had enough nuclear weapons to
not only wipe each other off the map, but also enduce a global nuclear winter which is when the
nuclear fallout is so thick it blocks out the sun, lowering the global climate, killing of plantlife,
animal life which depended on that plantlife, and ultimately causing a complete food chain
disruption. Hell on Earth as we know it.
Fortunately, worldwide nuclear winter was only a possibility, never a reality. But for some
people, the reprocussions of the use of nuclear weapons are very real. The United States tested 67
nuclear weapons in Bikini Atoll from 1946 1958. Bikini Atoll, which belonged to a conglomerate
of 23 islands the Marshall Islands was formerly inhabited by nearly 5000 bikinians before they
were voluntarily evacuated in order to begin nuclear testing. Many of the Bikinians resided on
nearby Rongelap atoll, until fallout from the Castle Bravo Hydrogen Bomb test in 1954 shrouded
the atoll in a cloud of radioactive fallout, forcing them to once again relocate to another island. The
US Government declared Bikini atoll habitable in 1970, and

The Endoplasmic Reticulum
1. Introduction
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is the central intracellular organelle providing stringent quality
control systems to protein synthesis. Upon accumulation of misfolded/ unfolded proteins in the ER,
eukaryotic cells have developed an evolutionarily conserved adaptive mechanism, unfolded protein
response (UPR), to clear these proteins and restore ER homeostasis. The ability to respond to
perturbations in ER function is critical for cell survival but chronic or amplified ER stress can
lead to apoptosis to protect the organism by removing the stressed cells. Growing evidence
suggests that ER stress mediated apoptosis may contribute to pathophysiological processes
involved in a number of diseases such as neurodegenerative disease, diabetes, atherosclerosis and
renal disease [1]. This term paper intends to address (i) ER stress mediated signaling, (ii) molecular
mechanisms linking ER stress to apoptosis and (iii) a potential role of ER stress in autoimmunity in
the context of type I diabetes.
2. The Endoplasmic Reticulum
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is an essential organelle that is a major place for the biogenesis
of cellular components including proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates and internal calcium storage.
ER is primarily responsible for protein translocation, protein folding and protein post modification.
Proper folding of protein in the ER is accomplished with the aid of ER resident proteins or enzymes
such as chaperones. Binding of chaperones to

Prenatal Care and Preterm Births Essay
Prenatal Care and Preterm Births
In the last 20 years the hopes of survival for neonates have seen significant increase, almost all of
the causes of perinatal mortality and morbidity have decreased. There is only one threat unmoved,
still standing above the rest Preterm birth. Prematurity or preterm birth is defined as the birth of
any child between 20 37 weeks of gestation. Delivery prior to 20 weeks of gestation is considered
a Natural abortion.1 The survival rate of low birth weight infants has significantly increased from
15 80% in the last 20 years. However, the incidence of prematurity has not seen any change, neither
decrease nor increase. Currently the average incidence is 10 11%.1
There are noticeable sex and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main reason that the incidence has remained static is that there has been no clear definition
of the chain of events that result in pre term birth. Without an understanding of how it happens,
there can be no way of stopping the process, and further, of stopping the process once it has
begun being that there is no way of knowing exactly at what stage it is. There has recently been a
strong theory proposed which needs to be given more attention, the prostaglandin theory. Briefly,
pro inflammatory cytokines and other immunomodulatory proteins produced by either overt or
sub clinical infection stimulate prostaglandin synthesis and release. This ultimately induces the
synthesis and release of metalloproteases, which bring on cervical ripening and membrane
weakening and rupture. 4 The increased survival rate with a static incidence means that there
are more people with problems in society, more NICU s being filled, more families are having to
learn to live with someone that is handicapped, more problems arise with health care funding as
more people have chronic health problems, and with a little creativity and a careful eye, the rest
of this paper could be a list of the problems that are arising. Some known morbidities of preterm
birth include Cerebral Palsy, ADHD, growth retardation, respiratory distress syndrom, decreased

One single female carp can produce up to 1.5 million eggs per year (PestSmart, 2012). So unlike
other methods, the use of daughterless carp technology will have a significant effect.
Daughterless carp technology will produce a decline in female carp numbers, hence causing an
overall decrease in the entire carp population. With the gradual decline in female carp, less
offspring will be produced and thus more male carp will be present within the population. It is
evident that daughterless carp technology will gradually cause a decrease in the population. The
newly invented gene is expected to move into the Murray Darling system s carp population,
leaning towards an all male sex ratio (O Neill, 2003). According to O Neill (2003), despite the
technology taking up to 50 years to reduce carp numbers, this will prove to be effective. This
technology will enable the carp population to decrease

Early detection of such failures will definitely save many lives and decrease the number of injuries.
This can improve the public safety and provide more reliable economical feature. Eventually, the
increased awareness of the economic and social effects of such degradation especially under
extreme events intensifies the need for advanced SHM, damage detection, and damage localization
tools. Consequently, SHM systems are basically used to monitor the structures behavior during the

first example is the monitoring of the Tsing Ma Bridge and Kap Shui Mun Bridge in Hong Kong

anemometer, and accelerometers were installed on the bridge. These sensors were installed to
monitor the bridge dynamic response in terms of displacement, acceleration, wind, and
temperature. Approximately 320 channels of sensors were used in Tsing Ma Bridge [11].These
sensors produced about 65 M Bytes of data every hour in an attempt toward in depth monitoring.
This SHM system was able to monitor the structural health of the bridge and provide reliable
information for civil engineers to plan accordingly for inspection visits.
Another example of SHM is the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge located in Cape Girardeau,
Missouri. That long term SHM system included 84 accelerometers channels [12]. This system was

Why I Should Take A Shower
Of course Finn hadn t gone in my room, twenty dollars had just dissapeared. Damn, I should

So I still have about half an hour to kill. I decide that I really should take a shower, mainly just to
kill time while avoiding my mom. I take a cold ten minute shower before returning to my room.
While I was showering I d missed a text from Sky where are you? we re waiting out front
Thankfully the text is only two minutes old, so I have time to hurry a reply, grab my stuff and
run out the door. Get in already, Wyght! Elli yells from the open window of his van. Elli s van is
our only mode of transportation, which definately isn t ideal. The van is black and really old,
and is a semi passanger van and semi cargo van. What I mean by that is that there are five seats,
along with a cargo area. This is a bad setup for us, as our band has six members, but we make it

is tiny, and can t weigh more than a hundred pounds, and Dexter never really complains about the

Radiographers Research Paper
As healthcare professionals, those in the field of radiology work to support sick and injured
patients on the road toward diagnosis and recovery. Though many may see radiographers as
employees serving a purpose to aid those with a disabling injury, many fail to acknowledge the
possibility of radiographers being prone to injury themselves. There are many factors that contribute
to the risk of work related injuries, which include heavy physical work, lifting and forceful
movements, bending and twisting, sustained poor postures, and repetitive or frequent movement
patterns. As a radiographer, job requirements entail repetitive movements involving lifting and
positioning patients, some of which fail to cooperate or are unable to follow verbal direction. Also,
some patients who are unable to assist in moving and position create added stress to multiple joints
and muscles for the technologist. When patients are maneuvered incorrectly, radiographers are
prone to physical stress and musculoskeletal disorders in many different areas of the body.
Additionally, the use of heavy lead aprons and the image archiving systems that are used to collect

Tiananmen Square Essay
Tiananmen Square: As hope began to creep into the minds of young New Wave artists, they began
to push the boundaries past what cultural officials could accept. Many officials expressed the
opinion that young artists exhibitions were incomprehensible, a confused hodgepodge that has
everything in it but works of real artistic value. It reflects ideological emptiness[...] primarily
sexual liberation, lust that will drive people into promiscuity. Disgusting, naked filth! (Sullivan
276). Despite the pressure placed upon them, artists would not be silenced: they would defend
their freedom and democracy to their last breath. In 1980, a spark of rebellion began following the
death of Hu Yaobang, one of the most reform minded leaders after the Cultural... Show more content

In shock, the artists came to a sudden realization of their impotence in the face of real politics.
Their idealism an utopian enthusiasm so typical of new art in the 1980s met its nemesis in the
gun barrels of Tiananmen. Unofficial culture, which was just coming out into the open, was again
forced into an iconoclast position by official policy. But, ironically, this banishment in the end
served creative art a good turn (Chang 1). The party once again controlled the creation of official
art, however young artists would not allow themselves to be controlled. The underground nature of
new art communities allowed artists to thrive and experiment without fear. Artists were forced to
reevaluate the premise and validity of their artistic pursuit, and of the delicate tensions between
form, aesthetic matter and reality (Chang 2). Out of the reach of government control, they were
able to look abroad to places such as Singapore, Taiwan, and the west. Tiananmen Square became
deeply embedded in the minds of the artists that arose during the 1990s, and they faced the future
with a skepticism their predecessors lacked. From the ashes of the New Wave rose the Cynical
Realists, a group of young artists unsullied by the impractical expectations of the 80s (sullivan

Mr Rod Edson Motivation
Mr. Edson Most people have or have had a teacher that has inspired them. For me, the teacher
that comes to mind is Mr. Rod Edson. There are many great things that describe Mr. Edson, but a
few stand out to me more than others. Mr. Edson has inspired me in many ways because he has
a great sense of humor, he is laid back, and he is motivational. Mr. Edson s humor inspires me in
many ways. His sense of humor is unmatched by anyone else. What makes him so funny is the
presentation of his jokes. When he tells a joke, he is pretty laid back and quiet. One thing that he
would always say while reading the announcements was that the lunch we would be having for the
day was freezer burnt. That always got a laugh from the junior high kids.

Fracking Environmental Issues
Considering my major is environmental studies I have chosen to focus this week s journal entry on
threatening environmental issues. My first issue surrounds the water crisis in California and the
second I ll be focusing on the controversial issue of fracking.
The drought in California has presented some controversial and difficult issues for the residents of
the state. Due to the lack of rain and fresh water the state has began, with no regulation, pumping
irreplaceable groundwater to aid the drought. This is an out of sight crisis considering it is
invisible in the average persons life. Furthermore, as long as residents are continuing to have
access to water in their homes and work places the crisis is largely out of sight out of mind.
However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fracking is also referred as hydraulic fracturing in which rock is fractured by a pressurized liquid
to further create cracks and openings underground to extract more free flowing components such as
natural gas, petroleum, and brine. Millions of frac jobs have been performed on oil and gas wells
worldwide to further extract more shale gas, tight gas, tight oil and coral seam gas. This highly
controversial issue of greed and depletion of deeply bounded fossil fuels is extremely important.
The argumentative basis of this matter is between those whom benefit and have more readily
available accessible hydrocarbons and the people who are aware of the potential hazardous
environmental effects. Hydraulic fracturing greatly threatens the risk of ground and surface water
contamination, air pollution, noise pollution, and the consequential triggering of earth quakes and
hazardous long term effects that are unknown. This is highly controversial considering the industry
that is already in power of fossil fuel extraction is highly powerful and ran by both government
powers and mass corporate powers with much control on those who regulate. I am on the
opposing side of the fossil greedy powerful organizations who push for fracking and believe that
there are surely alternative solutions. I am personally interested in the issue of fracking because I
know how important and vital clean ground and surface water are for human survival and also
because I am terrified of the technology mankind has came to power over that in which threatens
and potentially could trigger disasters that we have no control over such as earthquakes and
sinking of the land. There are many issues amongst my major that I cold have focused on but I
believe in this current day the largest problems surround the ever so greedy and extreme measures
mankind will take to have power over natural resources,

The Female Figure From The Narrative As A Mourning Woman
The artist depicts the next female figure from the narrative as a mourning woman. Spatially
placed on the second floor of a building, a woman crouches on the ground holding her hood up to
her eyes (Fig. 4). One can observe this as a way to cover her tears or just shield her face in
mourning. The Latin text above this scene declares that King Edward, the Confessor, has just
passed away. This female figure stands apart from the other gathered mourners carrying the king s
body. Her size is also diminutive, which could refer to her overall rank of importance to the other
figures. The artist, however, only had so much space to work in, as the drapery above her nearly
touches her head. The female figure, however, remains unnamed. This suggests... Show more

The female figure is also petite in stature to the men setting the building on fire. This was a
deliberate choice for the artist, as she is taller than the building being set on fire as well.
Caviness relates this scene to the message that William sent back to Harold to engage in battle to
save his people. The spear held by one of the men burning the house signifies him as a soldier.
While the female figure raises her spare hand to try and reason with the soldier, he avoids her
gaze. This provides a sense of hopelessness to the scene, and shows how little power women had
during the Middle Ages. The artist of the Bayeux tapestry also depicts three female nude figures
in the border to highlight scenes in the narrative. Caviness states that the tenor of the marginal
zone is defined by the fact that wild beasts and chimeras by far outnumber the bridled horses in
the main field. This is where the context for the three naked women in the borders, each of whom
faces an aggressive, nude male partner. Thus, three clothed women in the central field are
matched by three naked sex objects in the margins. This pairing of three women in the narrative
and three in the borders provides a sense of symmetry and order to the otherwise chaotic pairing
of men in various states of battle and at court. Women, therefore, fit more of a model, and a lack of

Essay on The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu
Being a student interested in the field of biology, one knows that studying life in the past plays an
important role in the history of organisms that lived on this earth. Similarly, being Japanese,
studying the past of how Japanese were plays an important role in Japanese history. Despite all the
general aspects of life that have changed from the Heian period, the one idea that has definitely not
changed is the romantic relationships between a man and woman. Though the general concept is the
same, from reading The Tale of Genji, it is what was considered the ideal woman and ideal man that
were both surprising and thus worth discussing. Written around 978 by Murasaki Shikibu, The Tale
of Genji, regarded as the world s first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, as To no Chujo pointed out (Shikibu 21), women that are high rank, have a lot of
people that serve them and make them look better than they are so that a man cannot really
know what kind of personality she may have. Middle rank women on the other hand, have less
hidden about her, and so one can tell what kind of woman she is. This is probably because
middle rank women do not have as much pressure to look good as high rank women have and
because they are not expected to be as great. Thus in this way they are not pampered as much
and in a sense show their true colors. From this it can be concluded that the ideal woman if it
were possible, would be someone that was high rank, but also had a good personality that was not
just made to seem good but her servants. For a woman to have a good personality is definitely an
understandable character, but what constituted good personality and character? The Chief Equerry,
an older man with more experience in matters with women in comparison to To no Chujo and
Genji, explained that the woman s main duty is to look after her husband and the household
(Shikibu 23). Thus the ideal woman would be one who was educated and smart enough to take
care of the household including preparing a fresh set of clothes after her husband returns from
journey, and keeping the house tidy and clean. She should not have to ask her husband for every
little thing that needs to be done because that would just waste

Starbucks Bond Information On Morningstar Essay
Starbucks bond information on Morningstar displays a quoting market price of $107.73 with a
fixed coupon rate of 3.850%, a maturity date of October 1, 2023, and a current yield to maturity
of 2.80%. Starbucks bonds mature in 2022 and 2045 with early indications of yields close to
2.80% and 4.17% respectively. Starbucks coupon rate of 3.850% is more than the yield to maturity
rate of 2.80% indicating the bondis selling at a premium. Starbucks bond is disbursed
semiannually with the bond maturing in 16 years with a payment of $19.25 and a yield to
maturity rate of 1.40% resulting in a present value of $1074.79. The present value of $1074.79 is
slightly less than the purchasing price of $1077.30 indicating the bond is overvalued, therefore an
individual should not purchase Starbucks bond at this time. Starbucks capital structure as of June
2015 reveals a comparatively low percentage of debt of 33.1% ($2.9 billion) and a noticeably high
equity of 66.9%. These percentages indicate that 67% of Starbucks assets are financed with equity
and the remaining 33% is financed with debt. In other words, Starbucks has a healthy proportion of

Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti
During the Victorian period, the feminism was beginning to take on a stronger voice, marking the
start of this movement. Poet Christina Rossetti embraced this, as her own principles slowly became
publicly acceptable. By creating modern female heroines, Rossetti comments on the Victorian
society that she and her feminist contemporaries wished to see altered, in Goblin Market, this voice
is evident. With the two sister, Laura and Lizzie, portrayed as innocent, pure and virginal, the
goblins take on a more malicious character; portraying that of the male figures who tempt and
corrupt.
According to the Victorian definition, a gentleman never takes unfair advantage . . . or insinuates
evil which he dare not say out, and possesses, among other qualities, the ability to avoid all
suspicion and resentment (Landow 4). The goblins seem to contradict this definition of a gentleman
throughout the poem; they represent the deleterious nature of men on the lives of women.
Although it can be argued that the men of Goblin Market are wanting of sexual desires, it is
evident that their only need is to take their virtue, Once both sisters have gone to the goblins and
acquired the juices of their fruits, they have no further need of them (Mermin 291).
The poem begins with an image reflecting that of the Garden of Eden. Much like the serpent, the
goblins call the sisters to their delicious, exotic fruits, which represent the proverbial forbidden fruit
one taste and chaos ensues. Using

Analyzing the Juvenile Justice System
The juvenile justice system is imperfect, at best, and part of this stems from the fact that juvenile
justice, as a specific, discrete category of crime and punishment is still a relatively recent
phenomenon. In fact, the notion of childhood and adolescence as distinct phases of human
development is a novel idea that did not truly emerge until the twentieth century, so it is only
natural that some elements of the juvenile justice system seem to have been made up they went
along. Now, however, after substantial research into juvenile delinquency, it causes, and potential
solutions, a much clearer picture of the phenomenon is emerging that will allow parents, teachers,
legislators, and law enforcement officials to better reduce juvenile delinquency without imposing
unnecessarily harsh restrictions of juveniles. By examining the history of the juvenile justice
system alongside more recent research into juvenile delinquency, it will be possible to see how the
most effective treatments going forward will likely focus on reducing risk before delinquency
occurs and rehabilitating juveniles already in the justice system, as opposed to more punitive
measures that mark juveniles as a criminal and thus hinder them for the rest of their lives. It is
necessary to begin this study with a look at the history of the juvenile justice system, because as
mentioned above, the notion of childhoodand adolescence as a distinct phase of human
development, and thus deserving of special

Extended Definition Of Propaganda

frequently utilize it, and even Donald Duck has been used to promote it. It can comfortably travel
through a multitude of mediums to promote things from sinister to beneficial, laughable to serious.
The it that I m speaking of is known as propaganda. Propaganda can be a tricky word to define
because of the different ways it is utilized and the many words that it is nearly synonymous with.

Propaganda is used to promote a certain cause to a mass audience through mass media. Propaganda
can be used to spread information for good or bad reasons and has been known to do both. The
use of propaganda for bad reasons has caused many people to view it as a deceitful word, one
that stretches the truth and blows things out of proportion to gain support even though that is
not always the case. For example, propaganda likes to use testimonials, glittering generalities,
card stacking, and other techniques to present information in the best and most biased light
(Ogelsbee, n.d.). The article Defining Propaganda (n.d.) explains that propaganda can spread its
message through a variety of mediums such as pictures, drawings, exhibits, speeches, parades,
songs, and so forth. It can present itself in such a way that the audience won t even realize what
it is, which can help with its effectiveness. Basically, this means propaganda can be concealed or
open. It can also weasel its way into your life and leave a lasting emotional effect by using a
combination of emotional and logical appeals (Defining Propaganda, n.d.). Propaganda typically
appeals to emotion because it helps get a message across in a short amount of time and is the most
effective. All of this means that propaganda can come in many different forms and can be adapted

Hockey Case Study
The final option for Trevor Linden to present to the NHLPA is to fully reject the league s offer,
which would lead to a lockout for the 2004 2005 season, and possibly dissolve the National
Hockey League. An advantage of this option is that a number of top players would be able to
seek employment elsewhere, and could sign lucrative contracts in the Russian Superleague (now
KHL), the SHL in Sweden, the NL in Switzerland, or leagues in Finland or the Czech Republic.
There are a number of other leagues that players could try to join that pay lower salaries, such as

Even players who do find places to play will be much less satisfied because of the lesser
competition. Simply put, going from playing in the best league in the world to a lesser league
or not playing at all would be very disappointing for players because of the less exciting games
and reduction or elimination of a primary source of income. Another disadvantage is that fans
would be greatly disappointed with the loss of an entire hockey season. According to a poll

certainty, while only 30% of Americans and 6% of Canadians agree with the NHLPA that the
economic system does not need to be fixed. This implies that most fans believe that the NHLPA
is being too greedy in their negotiations, and therefore a lockout would greatly reduce the
reputation of the players. Interestingly, some players are willing to accept a salary cap and
revenue tied salary, as long as it means they can get on the ice, but the NHLPA claims that it is as
united as ever in taking a stance against salary caps. A final disadvantage is that a lockout would

Adaptation Theory Of Addiction Essay
As early as fetus development, our brain neuronal circuits begin to wire themselves. Synaptic
plasticity is gained in result of developing neural networks.
Synaptic plasticity, is the biological process that results in our ability to memorize, reinforce, and
reintroduce information. Silent glutamatergic synapses are a type of synapse that is a vital
component of synaptic development. They are present deep in the development of a young brain
and account for and represent the early processes of the pathway for experience dependent
synaptic development. Silent glutamatergic synapses (SGS) are synaptic connections in which
only N methyl D aspartic acid receptor (NMDAR) mediated responses are readily detected whereas

provided additional synaptic slots that is hypothesized to create new AMPARs in long term

AMPAR upregulation during long term withdrawal, deduce that homeostatic conversion of
AMPARs is mediated in result of the extended decrease in overall membrane excitability.
Roles of SGS in brain development, addiction, and synaptic plasticity is still widely unknown and

SGS. This has opened new theories and potential for research and development in metaplasticity

Francis Galton Eugenics
Eugenics involves applying principles of genetics and heredity for the purpose of improving the
human race. The term eugenics was first invented by Francis Galton in the late 1800 s. Francis
Galton was an English intellectual whose body of work spanned many fields, including statistics,
psychology, meteorology and genetics(Shultz 114 116). Francis Galton was also a half cousin of
Charles Darwin. Francis Galton s first academic foray into eugenicsanalyzed the characteristics,
such as superior intelligence, of England s upper classes and concluded they were hereditary;
therefore, desirable traits could be passed down through generations (Shultz 116). Francis Galton
elaborates on his idea that although a person can improve his or her state, genes place limits on
how far one can go and he uses examples of physical prowess as an analogy to intelligence. Francis

The Importance Of Job Related Stress Among Police Officers
As a police commander or administrator, addressing the concerns of the officers in your employ,
is one of the most important duties that you have. This is especially true when addressing the
issues of job related stress. Studies have shown that many police officers perceive the most stress,
which they experience, originates from within the department. The studies have also shown that
job related stress is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease in policeofficers (Vicini, 2013). With
these thoughts in mind, it is imperative for police administrators to have a plan of action in place,
to evaluate and validate the concerns of the officers, and to provide the most effective practices to
reduce this stress. As an administrator, who officers had confided their concerns to, the first thing
that I would needto do would be to evaluate the validity of the officers claims about the stressors
which they are dealing with. The first step of this process would be to meet with the officers, in a
one on one setting, so that I could evaluate their appearance, mood, level of agitation, and their
sincerity concerning the issues which they are bringing forward. This meeting would be a way of
showing the officers that I am truly concerned with heir issues, and their wellbeing. Once I have
met with the officers, I would move to the next step of the evaluation. For me, the next step in the
evaluation process would be to meet with the complaining officers direct supervisors and

Alice Paul And The Quaker Family
Alice Paul My name is Alice Paul and I was born January 11, 1885 in Moorestown, New Jersey. I
am the oldest of four children, and belong to a Quaker family. The Quaker values that were taught
to me as a child will carry into my adult years and my work. The Quakers believed in equality,
which became a criterion that guided me through the rest of my life. Along with gender equality, the
Quakers believe in the need to work for the betterment of society the importance of staying close to
nature, and that all humans are worthy of respect. Some of my fellow suffragists came from a
Quaker background, including Sarah and Angelina Grimke, Lucretia Mott, and Susan B. Anthony.
When I was a child, my mother would take me to suffrage meetings, and there was where I found
my passion. I believe that women and men should be treated as equals, and this starts with the
women s right to vote. At age sixteen, I entered Swarthmore College, and was at the top of my
class. Because of my hard work in the political and economic curriculum, I earned a fellowship to
the New York school of Philanthropy. In 1907, I earned my Master s degree in sociology from
the University of Pennsylvania. Then, I decided to travel to England to work on another

Persuasive Essay On How To Apply Makeup
How to Apply Makeup: Step by Step We all hit the age of first wanting to wear makeup, but we
all run into the same problem. How do we apply it? There are so many steps and products to use
but not everyone knows what to use or how to apply it. You can find many videos online of girls
doing their makeup, but today I will explain a step by step process of how to apply it and what
tools you should use. The very first step you should do is wash your face. This step should be
done every time before doing makeup. Before you ever do your makeup you should have a clean
canvas before you start applying products to your face. If you have dry, flaky patches on your
skin, you could exfoliate. Most exfoliating scrubs have small rough microbeads in them. As you
rub the scrub onto your face in circular motions, it will remove the dry patches. By doing this, it
will help to make your foundation go on smoother. After you wash your face, you will want to
apply a moisturizer, another extremely important step. The moisturizer will nourish all of the dry
patches that the exfoliator could not remove. Moisturizers are made for every skin type. For
example, there are moisturizers for oily skin, dry skin, combo skin, and nighttime and daytime.
You should pick a moisturizer that is suitable for your skin type. You only need to apply a dime
size amount to your entire face. If you apply too much, the excess moisturizer will sit on top of
your skin and not sink in. You will want to let the moisturizer

In My Name Sandra Cisneros Analysis
In My Name by Sandra Cisneros, the author herself explains the meaning of her name, Esperanza,
in both the English and Spanish language and how it is not the name she wants to inherit from
her great grandmother because of her life occurrence. Cisneros explains the meaning of her name
Esperanza by stating it that In English my name means hope. In Spanish it means too many

horse which is supposed to mean bad luck for females born that year. She does not believe that it
is true because she explains this is a Chinese lie because the Chinese, like the Mexicans, don t like

Swot Analysis Of Quick Trip Essay
Analysis of Quick Trip QuikTrip (QT) Corporation is a privately held company established in
1958 that specializes in convenience stores that service Western states. Through analysis of
QuikTrip s operating environment, we identified and evaluated opportunities the company can
change or pursue. This analysis was accomplished utilizing a strengths weaknesses, opportunities
and threats (SWOT) analysis ensure a systematic evaluation is conducted. The mission of
QuikTrip is to be the dominant convenience/gasoline retailer in each market in which it operates
( About QT, 2016). QuikTrip s strategy to accomplish this mission is focused on locating stores
at key high volume locations rather than the number of sites. In other words, extensive market
research is conducted to determine the best locations with high traffic volume, rather than
opening as many stores as it can. Within the regions in which QuikTrip operates, the company
does not factor in whether or not the location they are evaluating has competitors. Instead, the
company counts on the service and value it offers to enable QuikTrip to corner the market at
each location it selects. The business model has worked well for QuikTrip. Fortune magazine
ranked QuikTrip on its list of Best Companies to Work For every year for the last 14 years (
About QT, 2016). Using its founder s strategy of expanding to high volume locations rather than
just expanding into new territories, QuikTrip grew from a single store,

Analysis Of John T. Scopes Monkey Trial
Religion and science both face off in ВЁThe Scopes Monkey Trial, the case that America went
bananas over. Two men duel to prove their points about evolution and whether it defies state laws
or not. The conflict of John T. Scopes defying the Butler Act, an act prohibiting public school
teachers from denying Biblical accounts of man s origin, was temporarily resolved with Scopes
being fined, but this compromise was not entirely settled until the Butler Act was repealed years
later. Biblical theology was a very strong belief among many, even when scientists proved them
wrong with evidence. According to The Scopes Monkey Trial, Charles Darwin first caused
scandal to the U.S. when he published his book, On the Origin of Species By Means

To This Day Poem
Shane Koyczan s poem To this Day truly shows how prevalent bullying is in our day. In his poem
he tells the story of how he got his offensive nickname Pork Chop. Additionally, he tells us that
many kids are bullied today, just as he was. He says:
I m not the only kid who grew up this way, surrounded by people who used to say that rhyme
about sticks and stones. As if broken bones hurt more than the names we got called and we got
called them all. So we grew up believing no one would ever fall in love with us, that we d be
lonely forever, that we d never meet someone to make us feel like the sun was something they

What Is The Sorcerer s Description Of Allan
The Sorcerer s Apprentice is a complex read and has many layers of information that one must
navigate through. For instance, I believe the sorcerer chose Allan as his apprentice because of
his father Richard Jackson. Richard was a man that did not show many emotions and keep them
under control even when time were difficult. I think the sorcerer saw the same potential in Allan
at first, but could also see Allan s eagerness to please. That is why the Sorcerer would only assign
Allan normal daily chores at first. The Sorcerer wanted Allan to remain humble and believed
making Allan perform normal day to day chores were a perfect lesson. However, Allan did not
interpret the lesson as such and believed he had either done something wrong or was not the
apprentice the Sorcerer had hoped for. When Allan confronted the Sorcerer about his feeling... Show

(Pg. 130) When analyzing the Sorcerer s words, I notice there is a lot of meaning in the few
words spoken. First, when he stated you are the best of students, he wished to acknowledge
Allans potential as a person not only as a sorcerer. The Sorcerer understood the fine line between
good and bad (a.k.a evil) when working the craft and how crossing the line was easy especially if
the person had good intentions. For example, at the end of the story, Allan wish to call the demon
to destroy himself because he felt unworthy. He no longer believed in himself, I am only that, a

The Rise of American Imperialism Essay
The Rise of American Imperialism
The idea of American Imperialism had both its advocates and its critics. One only needs to look at
a map to see which side won. America has greatly expanded since its own phase as a colony of the
greatest European Empire of the time. America became her own Empire through the accusation of
vast territories through many different mean. Sometimes she purchases the mighty morsel,
sometimes she forms it #8230; by the natural increase of her own people, sometimes she annexes,
and sometimes she conquers it ( Manifest ).
The rise of American Empire received support because in many ways it seemed a proper product of
past American history and tradition (Healy 47). Several American ideals such as:... Show more

laws of survival of the fittest (Brinkley, 606). American imperialism also possessed the solution to
several arising problems in that time (Healy 34). America desired to keep up with the imperialist
fever that was raging through the European countries (Brinkley 604). Europe had already
conquered and possessed a vast majority of Africa and other uncivilized lands. This provided these
countries with new raw materials and foreign markets. America was falling behind. America had
already practiced transcontinental imperialism for decades, but without extra territorial imperialism
America was being left out. The closing of the frontier had produced widespread fear that America
s natural resources would dwindle, necessitating foreign alternatives (Brinkley 605). The prolonged
business depression in 1893 also encouraged the economic interest in the foreign markets available
through imperialism (Healy 45).
Imperialism was supported by beliefs and current events, but also by numerous people of power.
Business was interested in imperialism because of the possibility of new markets. The majority of

Alfred, Lord Tennyson, A British Poet
Alfred, Lord Tennyson, a British poet was and is one of the most popular and famous poets
from Victorian era Britain. In fact he survived for basically the entirety of the era, as he was
born in 1809 and died in 1892, as stated in John Maynard s Alfred , Lord Tennyson (page 4).
Born into a large family in somewhat less than adequate conditions, he found solace mostly in
writing, even from a young age. According to online literature.com he lived with what the world
now knows as depression and was, apparently, very easily distracted, known as a notoriously
absent minded person. These traits might have been made a bit more severe thanks to his living
conditions, being the fourth of twelve kids to his parents, who each had their own issues, most
definitely including his father. According to poetsgraves.co.uk Alfred s father, George Tennyson,
suffered from a number of illnesses, including epilepsy, alcoholism, and general mental
instability. While this certainly made life difficult for his twelve children, George tried his best
to provide a good education to them, seeing the potential in Alfred from a young age as he had
shown signs of his talent from when he was very young. George was a pastor who, likely because
of his profession, had an interest in classical and modern literature, and decided to pass this
information and passion on down to his children as best as he could. His life eventually started
catching up with him, however, when in the 1820s he began to suffer many

Effect Of Smartphones On Advertising
Dr. Fusani
Zack Mineo
Spring 2016
The Effect of Smartphones on Advertising The amount of smartphones users have nearly doubled
within the past 5 years, from 35% to 70%.( 2014 Marketing Statistics Infographic ). As the number
of users continues to rise, advertising will continue to integrate with smartphones. Smartphones
have dramatically changed the way consumers are approached by advertising companies. Before we
can understand how smartphones have changed the advertising industry, we must first recognize
that advertising and smartphones were not always related. By answering the following two
question, it will further examine the effect of smartphones on advertising. How have smartphones
impacted the advertising industry? How effective advertising on smartphones is?
Background of advertising
Before I can explain the effects of smartphones on advertising, we must first understand what the
goal of advertising was before smartphones. According to Joseph Dominik Advertising is any
form of nonpersonal presentation and promotion of ideas, goods, and services, usually paid for
by an identified sponsor. (Dominick 350). The first appearance of advertising on radio dates
back to 1922 when the Queensboro Realty Company paid a few hundred dollars for a talk radio
show to commend living in country lots from Queensboro Realty. (Dominick 179). Since then
advertising has grown rapidly especially during the time of the depression and World War II.

accounting is rooted in the organization of monetary claims throughout the history of the Western

Beginning in Mesopotamia around 3500 B.C, and developing throughout the 14th century in
Europe, accounting has become one of the largest advancements in the Western world. This long

Often, for precaution, the trade was again written in the outercrust of the tablet so that no other
alterations could be made. Ancient Europe held an accounting system similar to that of the
Mesopotamian community. Here they used a form of papyrus, a paper material made from the stem
of a water plant, instead of the clay tablets that were much less plentiful in this area. Accountants in
this part of the western world were typically associated with a specific store or trade business, and
were evaluated extensively by an internal verification system within the corporation for which they
were accredited in order to implement a more detailed accounting transaction built upon honesty
and credibility of those calculating. While Egyptians made thousands of trades regarding gold and
silver, they referred to each as an exchange of goods rather than ascribing value to the item. This
made the calculating and recording different commodities in different credit terms very difficult.
According to public records, ancient Greece used accountants for personal monetary organization
and to maintain authority of governmental finances. It s systematic process equipped with leaders
was evident in the Athens Popular Assembly, who ratified all decrees regarding financial matters in
the state. This assembly met every ten days to discuss events regarding Athenian code and allowed
citizens to attend and vote on commissioned decisions made in government. Perhaps Greece s most

  • 3. The Pros And Cons Of E-Learning Today e learning is mostly delivered though the internet, although in the past it was delivered using a blend of computer based methods like CD ROM. E learning provides the learners with the ability to fit learning around their lifestyles, effectively allowing even the busiest person to further a career and gain new qualifications. Overall, traditional learning is expensive, takes a long time and the results can vary. E learningoffers an alternative that is faster, cheaper and potentially better. The term e learning has only been in existence since 1999, when the word was first utilized at CBT systems seminar. Other words also began to spring up in search of an accurate description such as online learning and virtual learning However,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New and experienced workers alike now had the opportunity to improve upon their industry knowledge base and expand their skill sets. At home individuals were granted access to programs that offered them the ability to earn online degrees and enrich their lives through expanded knowledge. (P, 6, 11). Key to the concepts of online learning is that a very significant part of the Course delivery and course work takes place virtually, using the internet. At one end of the scale we have 100 percent online course, where learner never meet face to face, and all course content and course work takes place online, and at the other end of the scale, a blended option where most course work takes place face to face, but is a regular and carefully integrated online component to the course. Online learning is often delivered via a learning platform or Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) also known as a Learner Management System (LMS), or a virtual classroom, a VLE web based platform and which course content can be stored. • 4. The Issue Of Illegal Immigration Essay Securing Our Borders Illegal immigration is an issue that plagues the border states and it must be controlled. What should be done with illegal immigrants has been a hotly contested issue in the news and also during the current election process. In Obama s Numbers April 2016 Update , Brooks Jackson states that in 2014, 11.3 million illegal immigrants came into the US. The Democrats and Republicans debate on whether amnesty or mass deportation is the better alternative on what to do with these illegal immigrants. I personally believe that mass deportation is a more effective means of dealing with illegal immigration due to it being more cost effective than amnesty, removing potential criminals with ties to the cartels, and is unfair to people that have or wish to come into our country legally. The costs of amnesty is far too high to be a real solution to the illegal immigration issue. The Immigration Bill s $6.3 Trillion Price Tag , Robert Farley states that the cost of amnesty ranges from $6.3 to $5.3 trillion over the next 50 years. That s about $126 billion to $106 billion per year. In Trumps Deportation Plan Prohibitively Expensive , Dolla Estevez states that Trump s deportation plan would require the federal government to spend roughly $400 billion to $600 billion to deport 11.3 million undocumented immigrants and prevent future unlawful entry into the U.S. over a 20 year time period, (Estevez). This is a much easier pill to swallow, as it will only cost $30 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Eating Disorders As A Female Disorder ABSTRACT Eating disorders are one of the most prevalent mental disorders in the United States. Although this disease is typically viewed as a female disorder, males are greatly affected and may go undiagnosed and untreated due to the attached stigma. Thus, it is important to understand the risk factors associated with the development of eating disorders in males. These risk factors include: athletic involvement, sexual orientation, pre morbid obesity, and adverse childhood experiences. Eating disorder type and symptom presentation also varies between males and females. Males typically do not meet the criteria to be categorized as Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa, causing their condition to be classified as Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. Symptom presentation is likely to include binge eating and excessive exercise rather than restrictive eating, purging, or other compensatory methods commonly seen in the female population. Several eating disorder assessments are available for use in clinical practice, most of which have been geared toward the female gender. New assessments, such as the Eating Disorder Assessment for Males, have been developed recently to try to hone in on the typical male symptomatology and their psychological processes. Prompt treatment of eating disorders, regardless of gender, is necessary to prevent the development of medical and psychological comorbidities. This process cannot begin until the diagnosis has been made; therefore, additional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Defining Polity And The State Introduction and definitions Mostly, it is difficult to define polity. As one of the three forces of social power along side economy and culture polity existed in one form or another in every human society (that we know of). In the process, It shaped human interactions throughout history, controlled the production process, controlled the distribution of surplus, controlled who had access to recourses and privileges, controlled the knowledge production process, controlled and shaped the nature of class struggle, and controlled the nature of conflict. While it is difficult to examine all these aspects in this short essay, I will start first with defining polity, and second, I will examine how some of the major theories had conceptualized polity and the state. One can define polity as the structure that includes actors and institutions that are organized within a hierarchical order. This hierarchical order is organized vertically and horizontally, and this organization shapes the interaction between these actors and institutions on the one hand, and with other structures within the larger society on the other hand. These actors and institutions work together within a clearly established system, towards maintaining the status quo, and the interest of the elite (economic, political, and cultural elite). The different units of polity (actors, bureaucracies, and institutions) work together within an established culture that is enforced by the authority and power of the state, ... • 7. Poverty and Underdevelopment of India Health education linkages inequality in distribution of stock of human capital means underinvestment on the one hand and mal investment on the other, as total and per capita stocks of human capital figures in women and backward castes indicate. Perhaps, the main reason lies in the failure of human investment revolution in economic thought to really revolutionize common thinking. individuals as well as state policy makers still perceive educationexpenditure as consumption and as a burden on the state which reduces public savings. it is misleading to treat public expenditures of backward castes and women as welfare but must be treated as capital formation . Poverty and underdevelopment of India does not permit adequate investment in general, including education. From the private angle, weaker sections who should invest more in education have their present consumption needs focusing on survival where education is perceived as luxury. Even if people took loans, they prefer investment in more tangible and resale able assets which yield higher ROR in short gestation periods to investment in human capital. The state is constrained by its available resources and by its welfare expenditure approach to education. Further, the capital market is too poorly organized to provide funds for investment in education. Thus to bring equity in distribution of human capital between different groups serious efforts have to be made towards reducing discrimination in schooling, improving ... • 8. Cloning Individualism Results May Vary: Adam Phillips s Theory of Cloning and The Paradoxical Apotheosis of Individualism Adam Phillips s essay Sameness Is All takes the form of a dialogue with two children to introduce the fantasy of cloning in which everyone is identical. Specifically, Phillips observes that cloning is a denial of difference and dependence which leads to a refusal of need (92). However, Phillip remains mindful that such fantasy of physical or psychological sameness is implausible as everyone is different even clones. One then questions the significance of such wanting of sameness, or if the sense of sameness serves any purpose. Using the concept of Selfand Otherthat Joanne Finkelstein examines in The Self as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reader sees that the Self and the Other appear to exist in an obligate symbiotic relationship, where both the Self and Other are dependent on each other for continued existence, and elucidates the reader on the interdependency of the Self and Other. After highlighting the interdependency of the Self and Other, Finkelstein uses this association between Self and Other to delineate the adverse consequences of this symbiotic relationship. By identifying the halo effect as a source of social pressure to conform, Finkelstein allows the reader to see Phillip s theory of cloning as a feasible solution to the inherent issues of social injustice and despair in this concept: DeJong and Kleck (1986:66) maintain that...the overweight not only do not have an acceptable physical appearance but are also perceived as characterologically flawed..the halo effect, which explains why attractive people are gratuitously assigned other valued attributes, can be seen to work in reverse for the overweight who are instead attributed with deficits of character. (181) The halo effect mentioned by DeJong and Kleck refers to individuals being perceived as having socially desirable personality traits on the basis of desirable physical attributes, and thus gratuitously assigned other valued attributes. Conversely, an unattractive individual will be perceived as having socially ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Comparing The Social Science Fiction Novel 1984 And The... A dystopia is a futuristic, imagined universe in which oppressive societal control and the illusion of a perfect society are maintained through corporate, bureaucratic, technological, moral, or totalitarian control. A more recent dystopia is the book or movie The Giver. The book starts out as what seems like a utopia where all pain, disease, and conflict have been abolished. As the book progresses and the main character Jonas gains insight into what the people have willingly given up their freedoms and individualities for the so called common good of the community, it becomes more and more obvious that the community is a horrible place in which to live. Many authors use their dystopian novels to voice their opinion of where the world is heading. The social science fiction novel 1984 written by George Orwell has many similarities and differences as the science fiction movie The Matrixdirected by Lana Wachowski. In the dystopian worlds in both the book and the movie, the characters have similar feelings towards how their worlds are ran. In 1984 characters Winston and Julia share the same feelings towards their world, they both decide to rebel against the government, this lead the two to fall in love with each other. Winston first begins to rebel by going into one of the shops owned by the proles, this was against the rules because ВЁParty members were supposed not to go into ordinary shops ( dealing on the free market , it was called), but the rule was not strictly kept, ... • 12. Ecological Effects of Anti Communism Strategies by the... During the early stages of the Cold War (1945 1954), the United States became so dedicated to stopping the spread of communism that they completely ignored the potential ecological effects of their strategic decisions, signifying a complete disconnect from contemplative ecology. During this period under the Truman Administration, there was an overwhelming societal belief that national security concerns trump environmental safety. As a matter of fact, there was zero concern from the federal government towards environmental safety, as evidenced by the United States Federal Government Spending for the Fiscal Year of 1950. Zero concern equalling zero dollars being spent on pollution abatement , and most appalling protection of biodiversity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the consequences of wiping out American cities with atomic weapons would result in the simultaneous destruction of Soviet cities from an American counter attack. The ultimate result would be mutually assured destruction on both sides. The ecological reprocussions from such a scenario would be disasterous. Both the Americans and the Soviets had enough nuclear weapons to not only wipe each other off the map, but also enduce a global nuclear winter which is when the nuclear fallout is so thick it blocks out the sun, lowering the global climate, killing of plantlife, animal life which depended on that plantlife, and ultimately causing a complete food chain disruption. Hell on Earth as we know it. Fortunately, worldwide nuclear winter was only a possibility, never a reality. But for some people, the reprocussions of the use of nuclear weapons are very real. The United States tested 67 nuclear weapons in Bikini Atoll from 1946 1958. Bikini Atoll, which belonged to a conglomerate of 23 islands the Marshall Islands was formerly inhabited by nearly 5000 bikinians before they were voluntarily evacuated in order to begin nuclear testing. Many of the Bikinians resided on nearby Rongelap atoll, until fallout from the Castle Bravo Hydrogen Bomb test in 1954 shrouded the atoll in a cloud of radioactive fallout, forcing them to once again relocate to another island. The US Government declared Bikini atoll habitable in 1970, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Endoplasmic Reticulum 1. Introduction The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is the central intracellular organelle providing stringent quality control systems to protein synthesis. Upon accumulation of misfolded/ unfolded proteins in the ER, eukaryotic cells have developed an evolutionarily conserved adaptive mechanism, unfolded protein response (UPR), to clear these proteins and restore ER homeostasis. The ability to respond to perturbations in ER function is critical for cell survival but chronic or amplified ER stress can lead to apoptosis to protect the organism by removing the stressed cells. Growing evidence suggests that ER stress mediated apoptosis may contribute to pathophysiological processes involved in a number of diseases such as neurodegenerative disease, diabetes, atherosclerosis and renal disease [1]. This term paper intends to address (i) ER stress mediated signaling, (ii) molecular mechanisms linking ER stress to apoptosis and (iii) a potential role of ER stress in autoimmunity in the context of type I diabetes. 2. The Endoplasmic Reticulum The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is an essential organelle that is a major place for the biogenesis of cellular components including proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates and internal calcium storage. ER is primarily responsible for protein translocation, protein folding and protein post modification. Proper folding of protein in the ER is accomplished with the aid of ER resident proteins or enzymes such as chaperones. Binding of chaperones to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is only one threat unmoved, still standing above the rest Preterm birth. Prematurity or preterm birth is defined as the birth of any child between 20 37 weeks of gestation. Delivery prior to 20 weeks of gestation is considered a Natural abortion.1 The survival rate of low birth weight infants has significantly increased from 15 80% in the last 20 years. Without an understanding of how it happens, there can be no way of stopping the process, and further, of stopping the process once it has begun being that there is no way of knowing exactly at what stage it is. There has recently been a strong theory proposed which needs to be given more attention, the prostaglandin theory. Briefly, pro inflammatory cytokines and other immunomodulatory proteins produced by either overt or sub clinical infection stimulate prostaglandin synthesis and release. This ultimately induces the synthesis and release of metalloproteases, which bring on cervical ripening and membrane weakening and rupture. 4 The increased survival rate with a static incidence means that there are more people with problems in society, more NICU s being filled, more families are having to learn to live with someone that is handicapped, more problems arise with health care funding as more people have chronic health problems, and with a little creativity and a careful eye, the rest of this paper could be a list of the problems that are arising. This species of fish has had significant negative impacts on the natural freshwater ecosystems. A current solution developed for the control of carp is known as daughterless carp . Discuss the impact carp have had on freshwater ecosystems and explain the control method known as daughterless carp . With the gradual decline in female carp, less offspring will be produced and thus more male carp will be present within the population. It is evident that daughterless carp technology will gradually cause a decrease in the population. The newly invented gene is expected to move into the Murray Darling system s carp population, leaning towards an all male sex ratio (O Neill, 2003). Millions of frac jobs have been performed on oil and gas wells worldwide to further extract more shale gas, tight gas, tight oil and coral seam gas. This highly controversial issue of greed and depletion of deeply bounded fossil fuels is extremely important. The argumentative basis of this matter is between those whom benefit and have more readily available accessible hydrocarbons and the people who are aware of the potential hazardous environmental effects. Hydraulic fracturing greatly threatens the risk of ground and surface water contamination, air pollution, noise pollution, and the consequential triggering of earth quakes and hazardous long term effects that are unknown. This is highly controversial considering the industry that is already in power of fossil fuel extraction is highly powerful and ran by both government powers and mass corporate powers with much control on those who regulate. Spatially placed on the second floor of a building, a woman crouches on the ground holding her hood up to her eyes (Fig. 4). One can observe this as a way to cover her tears or just shield her face in mourning. The Latin text above this scene declares that King Edward, the Confessor, has just passed away. This female figure stands apart from the other gathered mourners carrying the king s body. Her size is also diminutive, which could refer to her overall rank of importance to the other figures. This was a deliberate choice for the artist, as she is taller than the building being set on fire as well. While the female figure raises her spare hand to try and reason with the soldier, he avoids her gaze. This provides a sense of hopelessness to the scene, and shows how little power women had during the Middle Ages. The artist of the Bayeux tapestry also depicts three female nude figures in the border to highlight scenes in the narrative. Middle rank women on the other hand, have less hidden about her, and so one can tell what kind of woman she is. This is probably because middle rank women do not have as much pressure to look good as high rank women have and because they are not expected to be as great. Thus in this way they are not pampered as much and in a sense show their true colors. From this it can be concluded that the ideal woman if it were possible, would be someone that was high rank, but also had a good personality that was not just made to seem good but her servants. • 33. Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti During the Victorian period, the feminism was beginning to take on a stronger voice, marking the start of this movement. Poet Christina Rossetti embraced this, as her own principles slowly became publicly acceptable. By creating modern female heroines, Rossetti comments on the Victorian society that she and her feminist contemporaries wished to see altered, in Goblin Market, this voice is evident. With the two sister, Laura and Lizzie, portrayed as innocent, pure and virginal, the goblins take on a more malicious character; portraying that of the male figures who tempt and corrupt. According to the Victorian definition, a gentleman never takes unfair advantage . . . or insinuates evil which he dare not say out, and possesses, among other qualities, the ability to avoid all suspicion and resentment (Landow 4). The goblins seem to contradict this definition of a gentleman throughout the poem; they represent the deleterious nature of men on the lives of women. Although it can be argued that the men of Goblin Market are wanting of sexual desires, it is evident that their only need is to take their virtue, Once both sisters have gone to the goblins and acquired the juices of their fruits, they have no further need of them (Mermin 291). Analyzing the Juvenile Justice System The juvenile justice system is imperfect, at best, and part of this stems from the fact that juvenile justice, as a specific, discrete category of crime and punishment is still a relatively recent phenomenon. In fact, the notion of childhood and adolescence as distinct phases of human development is a novel idea that did not truly emerge until the twentieth century, so it is only natural that some elements of the juvenile justice system seem to have been made up they went along. Now, however, after substantial research into juvenile delinquency, it causes, and potential solutions, a much clearer picture of the phenomenon is emerging that will allow parents, teachers, legislators, and law enforcement officials to better reduce juvenile delinquency without imposing unnecessarily harsh restrictions of juveniles. By examining the history of the juvenile justice system alongside more recent research into juvenile delinquency, it will be possible to see how the most effective treatments going forward will likely focus on reducing risk before delinquency occurs and rehabilitating juveniles already in the justice system, as opposed to more punitive measures that mark juveniles as a criminal and thus hinder them for the rest of their lives. The article Defining Propaganda (n.d.) explains that propaganda can spread its message through a variety of mediums such as pictures, drawings, exhibits, speeches, parades, songs, and so forth. It can present itself in such a way that the audience won t even realize what it is, which can help with its effectiveness. Basically, this means propaganda can be concealed or open. It can also weasel its way into your life and leave a lasting emotional effect by using a combination of emotional and logical appeals (Defining Propaganda, n.d.). Propaganda typically appeals to emotion because it helps get a message across in a short amount of time and is the most effective. All of this means that propaganda can come in many different forms and can be adapted to fit pretty much any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Hockey Case Study The final option for Trevor Linden to present to the NHLPA is to fully reject the league s offer, which would lead to a lockout for the 2004 2005 season, and possibly dissolve the National Hockey League. An advantage of this option is that a number of top players would be able to seek employment elsewhere, and could sign lucrative contracts in the Russian Superleague (now KHL), the SHL in Sweden, the NL in Switzerland, or leagues in Finland or the Czech Republic. There are a number of other leagues that players could try to join that pay lower salaries, such as the AHL and ECHL in North America, and most players would likely pursue one of these options to keep playing hockey during the lockout. This could increase the global recognition... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even players who do find places to play will be much less satisfied because of the lesser competition. Simply put, going from playing in the best league in the world to a lesser league or not playing at all would be very disappointing for players because of the less exciting games and reduction or elimination of a primary source of income. Another disadvantage is that fans would be greatly disappointed with the loss of an entire hockey season. According to a poll done by nhlcbanews.com, 70% of Americans and 94% of Canadians side with the need for cost certainty, while only 30% of Americans and 6% of Canadians agree with the NHLPA that the economic system does not need to be fixed. This implies that most fans believe that the NHLPA is being too greedy in their negotiations, and therefore a lockout would greatly reduce the reputation of the players. Interestingly, some players are willing to accept a salary cap and revenue tied salary, as long as it means they can get on the ice, but the NHLPA claims that it is as united as ever in taking a stance against salary caps. Synaptic plasticity is gained in result of developing neural networks. Synaptic plasticity, is the biological process that results in our ability to memorize, reinforce, and reintroduce information. Silent glutamatergic synapses are a type of synapse that is a vital component of synaptic development. They are present deep in the development of a young brain and account for and represent the early processes of the pathway for experience dependent synaptic development. The Importance Of Job Related Stress Among Police Officers As a police commander or administrator, addressing the concerns of the officers in your employ, is one of the most important duties that you have. This is especially true when addressing the issues of job related stress. Studies have shown that many police officers perceive the most stress, which they experience, originates from within the department. The studies have also shown that job related stress is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease in policeofficers (Vicini, 2013). With these thoughts in mind, it is imperative for police administrators to have a plan of action in place, to evaluate and validate the concerns of the officers, and to provide the most effective practices to reduce this stress. As an administrator, who officers had confided their concerns to, the first thing that I would needto do would be to evaluate the validity of the officers claims about the stressors which they are dealing with. There are so many steps and products to use but not everyone knows what to use or how to apply it. You can find many videos online of girls doing their makeup, but today I will explain a step by step process of how to apply it and what tools you should use. The very first step you should do is wash your face. This step should be done every time before doing makeup. Before you ever do your makeup you should have a clean canvas before you start applying products to your face. If you have dry, flaky patches on your skin, you could exfoliate. Most exfoliating scrubs have small rough microbeads in them. As you rub the scrub onto your face in circular motions, it will remove the dry patches. By doing this, it will help to make your foundation go on smoother. After you wash your face, you will want to apply a moisturizer, another extremely important step. The moisturizer will nourish all of the dry patches that the exfoliator could not remove. Moisturizers are made for every skin type. For example, there are moisturizers for oily skin, dry skin, combo skin, and nighttime and daytime. You should pick a moisturizer that is suitable for your skin type.
