The Nazi Party Of Germany
The Nazi Party of Germany aimed to create a racially pure society between the years 1933
through to 1945. This society, or Volksgemeinschaft, was to contain Hitler s ideological view on
what a pure person, or Aryan should be. It also involved the exclusion of anyone who did not fit
this mould. The Nazi partywas extremely successful in achieving their highly aimed goal.
Through the Nazi s control over youth groups and in children s education, the Nazi Party and
Hitler were able to reach this goal in the years 1933 to 1939, and this continued through World
War Two till the end of 1945. The Nazi Party convinced children about their ideologies and by
doing so paved a path for the new generation to be followers of the Third Reich. Not everyone
supported the Nazi regime, but overall it was accepted by society, and the youth groups helped
the Nazi party form their ideal society leading up to and during the war. When Hitler became
Chancellor and passed the Enabling Act in 1933, it allowed the Nazi Party to have control over
Germany. The controlling of the education system allowed the Nazi s to implement their beliefs
and ideas in subjects. The Hitler Youth organisations were a way for the Nazi party to groom future
supporters and members of the Nazi party. This included future SS members and the future perfect
Aryan Nazi family. The policies they implemented in the schools and youth groups were what
ultimately helped the Nazi party be successful in forming their idealistic

The summer of 2015 was a good summer... it was one to remember for sure!!There wasn t very

Investigation Of Turkish Students Mathematics...
Investigation of Turkish Students Mathematics Performance based on PISA 2012 Objective The
purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between selected student and school level
variables and mathematics performance of Turkish students using PISA 2012 dataset. Two
research questions were investigated: (1) How much do schools vary in their mean mathematics
achievement in Turkey? (2) Which student and school level variables are associated with
students mathematics performance in Turkey based on PISA 2012 results? Theoretical
Framework PISA is a 3 year cycle of international assessment, which has been organized by
Organization for Economic Co operation and Development (OECD) since 2000. The primary aim
of the PISA assessments is to determine the extent to which young people, who are 15 years old,
have acquired the wider knowledge and skills that they will need in their real life challenges with
considering a literacy perspective in reading, mathematics, and science. According to PISA 2012
overall results, Turkey ranked 44th, 42nd, and 43rd positions across the 65 countries in
mathematics, reading and science, respectively (OECD, 2014b). In this present study, some student
and school variables were chosen to determine if there is any effect on students mathematics
performance in Turkey. Gender is the first variable coming to mind when someone starts an
educational research because there are not any certain statements; therefore, the influences of
gender on the

The Theories Of Aggression And Sport
Discuss the different ways in which theories of aggression relate to sport
Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play. It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfulness,
disregard of all rules, and sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence: in other words, it is war without
the shooting.
George Orwell (1948/1968). The sporting spirit. Collected essays, journalism and letters of George
Orwell, vol. 4. London: Secker and Warburg.
INTRODUCTION
Human aggression means different things to different people, that depend from the field where the
aggression is shown. In the sports world, the political arena or the business community, assertive
behavior is often taken to be synonymous with aggression (Gordon W. Russel 2008)
With the problems of behavior of individual people usually deal Behaviorism and according to that
theory behavior of person depends on the emotions, circumstances and feelings. Aggression is one
of such emotional states. One of the factors that defines personality is the level of his aggression or
stiffness, which is basically the antonym of charity. Aggressiveness has different manifestations.
Most of the relationship between violence and sports in the ancient world, derived from the
connection between the ancient sport and war. Sport has a value as a method to combat readiness
and he also had value as a substitute for direct military conflict. Battlefield Tactics soldiers needed
to be in a great shape, and combat skills gained from combat sports

Comparing Hinduism And Shintoism
Hinduism, Buddhism, and Shintoism
Both Hinduism and Buddhism originated in India. Hinduism originated first when around 1500
B.C the Indian civilization was overtaken by an invasion of pastoral nomads from around the
Caspian Sea, north of Persia. These nomads continued to invade the region over several hundred
years, conquering and settling among the native people. As a result of the clashes between these
two cultures Hinduism emerged as a result of the fusion of the beliefs that the native people of India
and the new arrivals had. Hindu priests created a caste system to deal with the problems caused by
racial tensions between the new arrivals and the native Indians. The caste system divided the
population into groups in which highest caste were the Hindu priests, who were followed by the
warriors, the farmers and merchants, the servants and laborers, and ultimately the lowest caste were
the war captives and slaves.
The first encounter between Hinduism and Buddhism occurred consequently when Buddhism was
created, since a Hindu prince named Siddhartha Gautama (also known as Buddha or The
enlightened ) created ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first conflict in which there was significant violence occurred in the third century B.C. when
the Mauryan emperor Ashoka embraced Buddhism and banned animal sacrifices. This action
angered many Hindus who in return persecuted Buddhists after the Mauryan Empire fell. After
these events the relationship between Hindus and Buddhists became very hostile until finally in the
13th century Buddhism became extinct in India, however, Buddhism kept spreading in Asia.
Another more recent conflict between Buddhists and Hindus can be appreciated in Sri Lanka. This
conflict was a civil war between the Sinhalese (which are mostly Buddhist) and the Tamil (which
are mostly Hindus) that started on 1984 and ended in

The Cafe Window
In the early evening back at home Consuelo was still pacing in front of the cafГ© window.
Concerned for the safety of her only son, who had departed this morning wearing his sleepwear
and robe. Her jaw fell open when on the sidewalk before her appeared Stella and Sol, with much
audacity. Carrying up the path garment bags from a high end department store. Behind them was
Dr. Edwards who had just pulled in after his long shift at work. He walked towards Stella who
was standing in front of the door. He greeted her with a big, juicy, wet, kiss, then they all just
walked right in.
Consuelo, who was still owning her tantrum, was offended by their smiles and casual stances. Not
wanting to believe what she was seeing when she questioned, Are those really garment bags you
carrying? Calm and collect Sol put on her sarcastic tone and lifted her head and retorted You saw
the wedding invitation. My daughter gets married next Saturday. We will dress impeccably well
for the fiasco. Consuelo who was speechless regained her composure for a moment, I understand
that she became a loon, but did I miss something with you two? My son is going to be crushed,
while you are going to look your finest for the biggest mistake your daughter is going to make in
her life? I just don t understand.
Sol replied proud, You always put on a good face during bad weather, don t you go out in the rain
with makeup? Consuelo was so appalled she could only muster, You mean you are not going to

Questions And Answers On Abraham Lincoln s Drifting Toward...
Lecture #4 Drifting Toward Disunion by Ayush Goel
Background Information
As a result of a crisis in Kansas, known as the Bleeding Kansas, the Democratic Party was
divided. Meanwhile, the Congress was divided on the topic of slavery, some strongly anti slavery
and others pro slavery.
In the election of 1856, three parties had representatives: the Democrats, the Republicans and the
American Party. The Democrats won, however the new president: James Buchanan, favored the
South.
Abraham Lincoln, known as Abe , came along and challenged the Senator Stephen Douglas to a
debate. In one of the debates, Douglas said that if the people voted out slavery he would favor them
over the Constitution, this was known as the Freeport Doctrine and it destroyed his reputation in
the South, ruining his chances of running as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He did not use force because he believed by Constitution the states could not secede. Also, he was a

2.Furthermore, the small army that U.S. had was needed to control the Native Americans in the
West.
3.Lincoln, at first, would continue the wait and see policy.
The Collapse of Compromise
пЂThere were attempts of a compromise prior to the impending bloodshed.
пЂOne of these compromise efforts were made by Senator James Henry Crittenden of Kentucky.
He proposed the Crittenden amendments (Crittenden Compromise) for the Constitution:
1.Slavery in all territories, now held, or hereafter acquired was to be prohibited north of 36o30 ,
but south of that line it was to be given to federal protection.
2.The Congress was forbidden to abolish slavery within a slave state.
3.The Congress could not abolish slavery in District of Columbia.
4.The Congress could not interfere with interstate slave trade.
5.The Congress would provide full compensation to owners of rescued fugitive slaves.
6.No future amendment of the Constitution could change these amendments, or authorize Congress
to interfere with slavery in any slave

Washington Irving s Rip Van Winkle Shapes American...
Washington Irving s Rip Van Winkle Shapes American Culture
Darkness...lowers upon my mind, and the times are so hard they sicken my soul, says Washington
Irving in a letter to a friend (Letters 446). This statement reveals Irving s intense emotional
condition, and in many ways indicates the intense social atmosphere as well as his personal
conflicts, during the composition of The Sketch Book. Upon the bankruptcy of his family s
fortune, of which he depended on solely for his monetary security, Irving found himself flung into
the galling mortifications of independence (Letters 487). In response to this trauma, he sailed to
England to regain his composure and hopefully secure his stake as a writer so he could provide for

And this incapacitation resulted in great despondency until one night when speaking to Van Wart
(the owner of the house where he stayed). Upon Van Wart s attempts to cheer him, Irving s mind
suddenly let loose and thoughts came with a rush, faster than he could write them (Williams 168).
This is an excerpt describing the night he wrote The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle:
...for being fettered so long by the ice of long mental despondency. Until morning and through the
small hours he wrote. At morning the June sun shone through the shutters, revealing him still bent
over his table. The Van Warts at breakfast looked up to see him enter, radiant, the fresh
manuscript in his hand. He said it had all come back to him; Sleepy Hollow had awakened him
from his long dull, desponding slumber; and then he read the first chapters of Rip Van Winkle
(Williams 169).
The composition of these sketches was sporadic in nature and it seems as if the Muses opened up
their floodgates on Irving that night. This aspect of the composition of these stories, as well The
Sketch Book as a whole, adds somewhat of a romantic atmosphere on Irving as a writer. Because so
many want to believe that authors somehow transcend normal human efforts, and their hands and
minds are just vessels for the words, thoughts, and

Symbolism in Kate Chopin s The Awakening Essay
Symbolism in Kate Chopin s The Awakening
Chopin s The Awakening is full of symbolism. Rather than hit the reader on the head with blunt
literalism, Chopin uses symbols to relay subtle ideas. Within each narrative segment, Chopin
provides a symbol that the reader must fully understand in order to appreciate the novel as a whole.
I will attempt to dissect some of the major symbols and give possible explanations as to their
importance within the text.
Art itself is a symbol of both freedom and failure. In her attempt to become an artist, Edna reaches
the zenith of her awakening. She begins to truly understand pure art as a means of self expression
as well as self assertion. In a similar way, Mlle. Reisz sees the path to ... Show more content on

A division exists between her and her environment as well as between her social character and her
awakening instincts (59). When she commits suicide she is finally naked, she has shed everything
she has in her quest for selfhood. But it is not only Edna who is symbolized in clothes, Adele is
more careful of her face in the seventh chapter and wears a veil. Both she and Madame Leburn
constantly make clothes to cover the body, and the woman in black and Mlle. Reisz never change
their clothes, symbolizing their distance from any physical attachment.
There are several symbolic meals in the text and each stress mythic aspects in the text. The meal
on Cheniere Caminada occurs after she awakens from a fairy tale sleep; the dinner party in
chapter thirty is viewed by some as a re creation of the Last Supper.
There are many symbolic houses in the novel: the one on Grand Isle, the one in New Orleans, the
pigeon house, the house in which Edna falls asleep on Cheniere Caminada. The first two of these
houses serve as cages for Edna. She is expected to be a mother woman on Grand Isle and to be the
perfect social hostess in New Orleans. The other two are places of supposed freedom. On the island
she can sleep and dream, and in the pigeon house she can create a world of her own. In the same
way, places have a similar significance. Grand Isle itself is a place of women.

`` An Act Of Evil `` By O Toole
In 14th century mythological creatures like werewolves and vampires were blamed for violent
crimes and the cause of the crime was seen as supernatural, beyond human control. In today s
society criminals are still labeled as monsters, little effort is made to understand what influences
their actions. However criminals are too average human beings and examining why crimes are
committed can help law enforcement better handled and prevented future acts of crimes. Why do
we label criminals instead of understanding their behavior? What factors influence people to
commit crimes? By understanding the factors influencing the crimecan future crimes be prevented?
In an article by O Toole called, Words Matter and Labels Make a Difference , she discusses how
labels such as monster limit the public from understanding why the crimes were committed. In the
article, An Act of Evil? When Monsters Kill , O Toole explains the reasoning behind a father
killing himself and his two sons. Janet Reitman discusses the life of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the man
responsible for the Boston Marathon bombing in the Rolling Stone article, Jahar s World . She
interviews people close to Jahar to gain an understanding of what made him execute the bombing.

Liberalism vs. Socialism
When looking into different political theories there are many different views and even more
political opinions on what is best for any one nation and their citizens. In order to fully understand
any component of government we must understand its underlying political ideologies and the
beliefs behind its policies and views. Liberalism, conservatism, socialism, fascism, feminism, and
environmentalism are well known political ideologies. Each ideology has drastic differences of
views relating to equality, power, freedom, and justice. Let s shift the focus by showing just how
drastic these differences and concepts can be between the ideologies by looking at liberalism and
socialism in terms of government and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This forced British radicals, from the 1790s to the 1820s to emphasize the importance of natural
rights and popular sovereignty in areas concerning government.
Now that we understand the liberalist side of things, let s look into the socialist government.
Socialism emphasizes much different views compared to liberalism. Socialism is based on the
theory of collectivism meaning human beings are social by nature, not individuals, and society
should respect this and refrain from acting in an individualistic manner. It also believes in public
ownership of property by society and government, not individuals, which gives controls of
production and property of most companies to the government. Furthermore, the socialistic idea of
central economic planning replaces any free market liberal view of class and wealth. This allows
the government to own and control the economy in an attempt to make everyone equal in terms of
wealth and standards of living. This promotes the idea of economic equality among citizen s instead
forcing people to work for what they have because it supports wealth redistribution.
People of a Socialist government rely heavily on their government in terms of control the means of
production such as manufacturing and agriculture. Socialist governments are also responsible for
and control their countries economic systems within the central government. An example of a
socialist government is The Socialist Republic of Vietnam, an ancient empire,

affects the brain functions by producing a euphoric effect, such as a sense of happiness and

Australian culture nowadays. As a result, people are misusing alcoholin the course of socialising

Her Breaking Point
You must be Brooklyn, the middle aged lady, behind the counter, beams. Her warm greeting
seemed to calm my growing nerves. She leans over the counter abruptly, wrapping her strong
arms around my body. The nerves were back. As soon as she pulls away my eyes scan the small
shop, searching for any possible audience. Luckily the only other person inside was oblivious to
the situation. The stranger instantly grasps my attention; his lean body was nearly pressed
against the shelf, and his head darts to the left and then to the right, before returning to its
previous position. Under closer observation I notice how his arm reaches out and the way his
fingers wrap around a bottle of alcohol I presume and how he quickly stuffed the bottle into his
coat, letting the black material envelope it... That guys stealing, I spoke in a hushed tone, and
my body shook with fear. What was that dear? The lady asks. That guy is stealing, the lady spun
towards the guy. Put that back, she yells, her demand was followed by the guy breaking into a
sprint and exiting through the door. The lady s hand digs into her pocket and pulls out a mobile
phone. Shouldn t we go after him? I don t know why I asked that, it s not as if I was going to go
after him. That s dangerous. No, I ll just call the owner, so he knows that someone has stolen
something. What did he steal? She queries whilst tapping buttons on her phone. One of those

The Diary Of War, National Pride And The National...
Claire Anderson
History
8 October, 2013
The Preface to War; National Pride in the Balkans Walter S. Zapotoczny, an author and historian,
once said, Each of the great powers believed they had something to gain from war, fostering the
national pride and the national positioning that made World War Iinevitable. This is true, as
imperialism and militarism were a large part of national pride. Austria Hungary, for example,
wanted Serbia. The German military was expanding rapidly. With each argument countries got into,
hatred became stronger. Eventually, the European tensions snapped and everything toppled into
terrible war. World War I was inevitable due to each of the great powers being imperialistic,
militaristic, and prepared for war.
During the early 1900 s, the European great powers believed they all had something to gain from
expanding. Land in Africa was being claimed by countries such as France and Great Britain. A
main goal for all the countries of Europe was growing. Austria and Hungary joined together into a
dual monarchy in 1867. This country annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1908. Germany was
annoyed at not having as much space in Africa, which is imperialistic because it is territorial.
Imperialism was popular during the time. The great powers believed they could become better
through imperialism. In this case, imperialism is showing national pride because the expansion of a
country makes it more powerful. Power is something citizens of a country can be

Universal health care can benefit Americans to no end. Many countries have tried it out, and it
has succeeded. Universal health care does not mean everything is free. It isn t a hand out. It just
means that if you break a bone, or have a medical condition you get taken care of without having
thousands of dollars in medical expenses. I have known, personally, many people who couldn t

currently they have no medical problem. It s crucial. About 33 million Americans did not have

Cultural Relativism And Its Impact On The World
Cultural relativism is the idea that all cultures are equal and no one is better than another. This way
of thinking was created and elaborated on by three main philosophers. Franz Boas, Alain Locke and
Robert Lowie were nineteenth century philosophers who shaped the ideas on concepts of Cultural
Relativism. These three men focused on the idea that one cannot judge other cultures because they
only see through eyes that have been influenced by their surroundings. They used relativist ideas
that existed already and expressed them on the world and the many different cultures that exist in it.
They created a mainly atheistic viewpoint in which the idea of a central moral truth and a higher
power was discounted. Only the people within a culturecould create moral codes and laws for
themselves. Franz Boas was born on July 19, 1858 in Minden, Germany. Boas grew up in a well
educated family and was encouraged to follow his own beliefs and think for himself. From a very
young age, Franz Boas was interested in natural history and studied it throughout his years of
schooling. He continued his studies and graduated with a degree in physics, even though he
considered himself more of a geographer than a physicist. This interest in geography is what drove
him to delve deeper into the ideas of cultural difference and led to the beginnings of cultural
relativism. Through his studies, Franz Boas became drawn to anthropology, the study of
humankind. He became interested in

Causes Of Fear Of Crime
Gilchrist et al (1998, pg283) explains that the fear of crime has become a phenomenon and one
that will be discussed within this journal review exploring whether or not women s fear is
rational or not. McLaughlin (2001) cited in Kinsella, C (2005) defines fear of crime as ...a rational
or irrational state of alarm or anxietyengendered by the belief that one is in danger of criminal
victimisation . Campbell (2005, pg120) explains that due to social political mobility, women s fear
of rapeis heightened, thus women are dependent on men to protect them from other men, however,
it has been shown that family members and close friends are normally the rapists. Alongside this,
Campbell (2005, pg121) continues to explain that through a criminological and victimological
viewpoint, the institutional, political and cultural surroundings additionally express that women are
more at risk than men. The British CrimeSurvey contributes further evidence of women being
assaulted by men they know as the survey showed that 32% of women were sexually assaulted by
a partner compared to 8% by strangers.
Gilchrist et al (1998, pg284) explains that with a low crime threat, women still have an irrational
response. However, feminist writers explain that this could be due to the fact that women suffer
sexual harassment and have less control over their space than men do, thus the higher fear levels.
Furthermore, Gilchrist (1998, pg285) tells us that women are are not hysterically overreacting to a

homework, midterms, and extracurriculars, a nap has become a rare luxury. This is the case for
university students across the globe, and sleep disorders have become real a health concern. By
conducting a cross sectional study, psychologists at the Saint Joseph University in Lebanon
investigated sleep disordersand examined the relationship between sleep disorders and anxiety. In
the form of a cross sectional observational study, the researchers gave four surveys to 462 students
at the Saint Joseph University. The four questionnaires regarded the following: InsomniaSeverity
Index, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Epworth Sleepiness Scale, and Generalized... Show more

Cross sectional studies are cost effective and are easy to conduct alongside a survey. This
approach was also a good choice because time was not a factor in this study. However, if the
researchers didn t have access to data concerning insomnia and anxiety in different age groups,
then surveys for various age groups would have to be conducted by the researchers. The only other
option would be a longitudinal study. My only criticism of this study is that there were multiple
surveys regarding sleep, but only one survey regarding anxiety. I think a more detailed assessment
of anxiety in the student body would paint a clearer picture of the link between anxiety and

Regret At My High School
Regrets
I never really thought about it until today. Today was the day I learned that Tony Weston, a kid
that I went to high school with, had committed suicide a month after our graduation. I am 28
years old now, so graduation was ten years ago. The teachers at my high school hated me. I showed
no effort in anything that I did and I was extremely obnoxious in class. They wanted to get rid of
me as soon as possible just like my parents. My dad was in the Navy so he wasn t home much.
When he was, it was like our family were his men; he ordered us to do everything. He would
always stare me down after he demanded something of me and I had to give the reply of, yes sir.
My parents got a divorce while I was in high school and that s when my life took a turn for the
worst. After graduation, I left town and headed for New York City to pursue a new life. I didn t
learn what happened to Tony until today when I got a card in the mail from Easton High School
in the rural town of Easton, New York. An invitation to the ten year reunion for my class. On the
inside of the invitation listed all one hundred fifty or so names of our graduating class. I hadn t
seen any of these people in ten years because I had never gone back to Easton since graduation
day. My first reaction was that I was not going, so I threw the card in the trash. As I was doing
this I saw a picture of Tony Weston on the back, picking it up I read, A special tribute to our lost
friend, Tony Weston. I had no idea

The Impact Of Gaming On The Gaming Industry
Since the video game console industry had a narrow focus, the entire gaming industry was used for
this scenario planning exercise. The environmental scan focused mainly on the competitive aspect
and left out many external factors. In order to give adequate attention to the external environment, a
PESTEL analysis was conducted. This helped determine external factors that the gaming industry
faced that were not in control of a single company, or their competitors.
PESTEL
In the political aspect of PESTEL, the main focus was on globalization and product dispersion.
Most gaming devices are made overseas, China and Brazil, so international trade plays a major
part in acquiring these products (CITE FROM SCAN). Items like trade restrictions, import duties
and taxation are all things no competitor in the gaming console industry has control over. The legal
section shares many similarities to the political one. The main focus here was trade and internet
regulations. Gaming has shifted from being a solo action, to one played with others around the
world. The top economic concern in this industry is the amount disposable income available.
Gaming is a luxury good, so as income falls the sales of the product decreases as well (CITE). The
economic growth, interest, inflation, exchange rate and unemployment all have a huge impact on
the industry. Since the world is interconnected, if the exchange rate difference becomes great, cost
burdens will have to be passed onto the consumer.

Mpls Network Based Mpls Uses Label Switching And Reliable,...
If a business is looking for a way to have a system that is fast and reliable, as well as secure
MPLS is the best solution. MPLS helps with the transfer of data between different business
locations and it has the ability to scale for any size business so it makes it a very valuable
investment. MPLS takes away all constant routinglookups associated with regular IP routing and
provides high quality performance for company networks.
MPLS Description
Multi Protocol Label Switching(MPLS) is a technology that uses label switching to more data
over a network. MPLS is technology that businesses use to create their own private WAN (Wide
Area Network). MPLS is used to connect different LAN s (Local Area Network) together that
exist in different areas of the country. When first talking about MPLS one must understand that
MLPS isn t a service is more known as a technique. This means that it can be used for many
different services that may not be known as MPLS. MPLS seems to operate in the middle of the
OSI model layers 2 and 3 so it is somewhat of a layer 2.5 protocol. The reasoning being is that
MPLS sits between those layers is because it provides more features for data transportation on a
network. One of the basic concepts MPLS is packet labeling or label switching. In a regular
Internet Protocol (IP) routing, every router makes a IP lookup in order to determine the next router
in the routing table. Which then forwards the packet and this process continues for every router until

The Character Analysis Of Gregory, By Panos Ioannides
The results of one s involvement in society s conflicts can be devastating. The short story
Gregory by Panos Ioannides creates a setting where the characters are involved in the 1925
revolutionary conflict between Britain and Cyprus. Consequently, the plot focuses around an
executioner who has the order to kill a British captive named Gregory, who became his friend. To
make matters worse, fellow soldiers inform the executioner that he must to kill Gregory or else the
Headquarters will execute him for failure to obey orders. Therefore, he struggles with the decision
to either please his society or stay true to his friendshipwith Gregory. The author emphasizes this
difficulty with use of mood, stream of consciousness, foreshadowing and visual imagery. Thus,
Panos Ioannides short storyGregory develops the idea that society s expectations and relationships
can influence one s moral decisions and create consequences. To begin with, Ioannides exemplifies
this idea with the use of mood. The executioner struggles to pull the trigger when the soldiers watch
him, and he seems nervous. This is apparent when the executioner mentions, My hand was
sweating...curve of the trigger biting against my finger...soldiers were watching... (Ioannides 142).
The conflict between these characters creates an emotional impact and sets a tense mood. To add
on, the tense mood establishes the social pressures the executioner faces as his peers watch him.
This affects his ethical decisions since he

Performance enhancing drugs should not be accepted in professional sports. Performance
enhancing drugs also known as PED s, violate rules, give players an unfair advantage, and send a
terrible message to young athletes. There are many types of PED s but the main two are Lean
Mass Builders and Stimulants. Lean mass builders, which increase the growth of muscle and lean
body mass, are popular for athletes who play contact sports. Stimulants can increase athletic
performance by increasing focus, energy, metabolic rate, and aggression.
If everyone wanted to level the playing field, maybe it s time to legalize performance enhancing
drugs. Legalizing PEDs would make life so much easier for professional sports organizations that
are currently tasked with keeping their players legal under the anti doping policies. It would be
easier to allow PEDs in sports than to constantly test athletes that are suspected cheaters. Plus from
a business stand point it makes more sense for professional sports to legalize performance
enhancers. One needs only to look to the late 1990 s where Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa put
together two of the most memorable baseball seasons in the history of Major League Baseball. The
home run race was popular world wide as jerseys flew off the shelves for these two athletes,

The nineteenth century was a revolutionary and constitutional period in Irelands history, that
somewhat shaped the Ireland that we live in today. This essay will explore the political
developments, within revolutionary and constitutional Irish nationalism in the period 1798 to 1867.

Ulster Protestants now came to regard the union as the essential basis for their prosperity. (Beckett

The first threat of nationalism after the union came in the form of an uprising by Robert Emmet.
Emmet had a poorly armed army and almost certainly knew that chances of success were faint. But
his rebellion was not about success. It was to remind everyone that 1798 was not forgotten and he
wanted to spur on the rebels in their quest against the British. Emmet was evidently captured and
sentenced to death. He did however have one small victory in his final speech. He requested that no
man write his epitaph until his county be free . This speech had long lasting historical value,
motivating republicans and nationalist movements from then to the present day.
Daniel O Connell became a great political influence in Ireland during the 1820 s. He had a
significant effect on the political landscape in fighting for the rights of Catholics. He brought the
grievances of Catholic s to the forefront of constitutional Irish nationalism. The creation of
Catholic rent and linking politics with religion made great strides in his campaign for Catholic
Emancipation. O Connell had always said that emancipation was only the first stage in his
programme and that repeal of the union was his ultimate goal. He didn t believe in the rebellions
that went before him. He always felt it was best to assert themselves politically rather than use

Analysis Of The Movie Dope
I recently watched the Netflix movie, Dope, a coming of age movie that doubles as a parody
and a dedication to the 1990s vintage ghetto generation. Malcolm and his friends Jib and Diggy
are nerdy high school seniors who bond over anything 90s related, play music together in their
punk band, and have grown up together in The Bottoms, in Inglewood, California. Malcolm was
trying to escape a gang one day when he had an encounter with a neighborhood drug dealer
named Dom. Dom ended up invited him to his birthday party, and with hesitation, Malcolm and
his friends decide to go. After an eventful night, Malcolm and his friends later discover that Dom
had stashed a handgun and a large amount of drugs in his backpack to hide it from the police
who raided the party. The rest of the movie plays out into a war over the drugs that Malcolm
accidentally possessed. Malcolm ends up selling the drugs and promises Dom s prominent
supplier, who was also coincidentally Malcolm s college interviewer, the profits made from the
drugs. Malcolm makes this deal with him only as long as he helps Malcolm achieve his goal of
getting into Harvard. Malcolm ends up setting up the supplier with the police while still getting
into Harvard and finally being able to get out of the hood. In terms of black masculinity, Malcolm
counteracts the hyper aggressive stereotypesthat some have in their head about young African
American men. In the movie Dope, numerous aspects of intersectionality are represented in

Adams infatuation love, or does it become a stronger love? I say all of the above, especially
stronger because his fantasies come true. And as Caroline finds out he can fulfill her properties
she looks for in a man. Until his heart fails once more this time leading to death. With this loss of
his life, Caroline is not whole anymore, she is only herself, that identity of them together is
gone. Now she will have to go on with a new identity because the one that was created with Adam
is no longer there physically. Where Nozicks view comes falls short of the relationship is when
he says that infatuation might hold people together until they are stuck, or in love. Because in this
relationship only one had an infatuation on the other. I totally agree with Nozicks view that if we
are in a good situation there should be no reason to ruin it by trading up. Caroline will have a hard
time finding the same romantic love she did with Adam because there isn t anybody who loved her

Informed Decision Making
Data is very important and critical to any organisation, so is in the telecommunication industries.
Information that can be easily used must be available so that the decisions makers within an
industry can make informed decisions based on visible facts projected by the data available. If this
is not the case, decision making processes can become extremely challenging and, in some cases,
impossible. The flow of information within an organization is critical to the success of that
organization (Davenport Prusak, 1998). Organizations struggle in collecting data, retrieving
information and making decisions based on the extracted information. A decision making process
consists of making judgments based on the qualitative data. There are several different types of
systems like Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and Enterprise Resource Planning
(ERP), which are being used by organizations to make decision processes. These systems have
progressed tremendously in the last few years by making large amounts of information accessible
using data marts and data warehouses (Wixom Watson, 2001). The above mentioned systems and
many more that are not mentioned above allow managers to analyse data depending on the business
requirements, to make better informed decisions. These systems have made the decision making
processes easy to a certain point, when used properly. If this system are not used effectively, they
can prevent optimization of the decision making process. Humans are the once who make decisions

Once hearing that Valentine had been poison, the Count states, What is it to me? (Dumas, 517).
This shows that the Count is a new person indeed, since if it was Edmond Dantes, he would have
sprung up and run over to Valentine to help her since he had acquired a knowledge of medicines
to help poisoned people. If Edmond Dantes was still living up to his birth name, he would not
have acted and said these things, unless he really changed who he originally was. Even though,
the Count tried to become a new person both physically and mentally, the old Edmond Dantes still

The twentieth century saw many changes in the treatment of African Americans and Women. After
the Civil War ended in 1865, the Thirteenth Amendment was passed. African Americans were now
free, but this freedom came at a cost. Blacks were still treated awfully, their rights were limited,
and they were segregated from the whites. Women were also very limited in their rights during
this time. They could not vote and were often expected to work at home and raise a family. Jim
Crow Laws, laws they enforced racial segregation, were put in place from the late nineteenth
century through the 1950s (Shi and Brown 599). Although they had the right to vote, unlike
women, many actions were also taken to keep blacks from voting. Poll fees were charged and...

receptionist. The hunter derogatively calls Phoenix Granny and points a gun to her head asking,
Doesn t the gun scare you? Phoenix responds to the hunter by saying, I seen plenty go off closer
by, in my day, and for less than what I done 0(Welty 4). This act shows the hunter s blatant
disrespect for Phoenix. If she had been white, the hunter would have treated extremely different.
Additionally, the receptionist in the clinic calls Phoenix a charity case and speaks to her rudely.
The color of your skin mattered heavily to white folk of this time period. In the other story, Silver
Sparrow, most of the characters are African American. At this point, African Americans grew to be
normal within society. However, it is apparent how they still seem to largely associate with their
same race. Dana s mother had a department store job at a gift wrap counter; this was a nice job for a

Art In An Art World
Art is not just a picture on a wall or in a museum, art comes in many forms. It can be a song you
just heard, a video you watched, or a painting you saw in a gallery. Art can also be just text but
no matter what all forms of art grasp you in different ways and make your thoughts evolve to
new distances. Art can bring you feelings you did not think you had. This is what an art world
truly is, a combination of all the work that was put into the art and how it impacted people s
lives. Art worlds consist of all the people whose activities are necessary to the production of the
characteristic works which that world, and perhaps others as well, define as art (Becker, p. 34).
Becker also says an art world is the network of people whose cooperative activity, organized via
their joint knowledge of conventional means of doing things, produce the kind of art works that
art world is noted for. An art world is very similar to an industry but the art business is so small
that the social factor isn t strong enough to consider it an industry. The people who create the
artwork will see the same people interested in the same artwork at the same art shows, galleries,
and other events year after year. In order to have an art world and artwork in it, we need the artists
to create art and an audience to critic and appreciate the art. Without an audience there would be no
variation in the types of art as the audience has a huge influence in what artists make. For instance,
without the reaction

Strategic Management and Ikea
п»їIkea: How The Swedish Retailer Became A Global Cult Brand IKEA is a well known global
brand with hundreds of stores across the world. In order to improve performance, it must assess
its external and competitive environment which will reveal the key opportunities to analyze there
advantages and threats. IKEA responds to both internal and external issues in a proactive and
dynamic manner by using its strengths and reducing its weaknesses. This helps IKEA to retain its
strong identity in market. IKEA s passion combines design, low prices, economical use of
resources, and responsibility for people and the environment. IKEA believes that there is no

Hybrid strategy is a problem as IKEA is concentrating only on low cost and differentiating in design
without considering the cultural values and norms enriched in different countries. American
customers want more comfortable sofas, higher quality textiles, bigger glasses, more spacious
entertainment units. Japanese want high quality and great materials, not low price and particle
board. Large Hispanic families need dining tables and sofas that fit more than two people, which is
the Swedish norm. They prefer bold colors to the more subdued Scandinavian palete and display
tons of pictures in elaborate frames. 3.0. Analysis of the External and Internal Analysis 3.1.
External Environment The world is experiencing tremendous and influential change. Although the
company opened 14 new stores in fiscal 2003, sales growth was only 2.7%, largely as a result of
the depressed economic conditions across Europe, the company s core business region (Global
Market Information Database, 2004). Thus, it is clear that, in order to improve performance at a
significant level, simply opening new stores is not enough. Instead, IKEA must assess its external
and competitive environment, determine the key opportunities and threats which face it, and align
its strengths and weaknesses to best counter the weak consumer market, and thus generate the
strong growth it needs to remain a strong brand and presence in its chosen markets (Johnson,
Scholes and Whittington, 2005) 3.1.1 Macro

Florida History
When I think Florida History, I think Kennedy Space Center.
I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of
landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth. No single space project...will be
more exciting, or more impressive to mankind, or more important...and none will be so difficult or
expensive to accomplish John F. Kennedy, May 25, 1961
We as a whole civilization have always wished about an afterlife with the goods or dreamed
about reaching or being sent to the sky or heavens. From ancient civilizations to the modern day

The first men to land on the moon were launched from the site of KSC (Kennedy Space Center) in
1969, and every human space flight launch in the United States since that time has taken place from

†Business’ and Its †Environment’
Business and Its Environment
Introduction
 Every business organization has to interact and transact with its „environment‟.  The
effectiveness of interaction of an enterprise with its environment primarily determines the success
or failure of a business.
 The environment imposes several „constraints‟ on an enterprise and has a considerable
impact and influence on the scope and direction of its activities. The enterprise, on the other hand,
has very little control over its environment.  The business environment presents two challenges
to the enterprise, viz., the challenge to combat the environmental threats (such as intensification of
competition, declining market etc.) and to exploit the business opportunities.  The basic job ...

Managers within business, to be effective, have to deal with both the internal and external

The internal environment has to be managed and adapted to the demands and opportunities of the
external environment.

Essay on James Madison
James Madison
In the years following the Revolutionary War, the economic and political condition in the newly
declared nation was disastrous. The young states were in extreme debt after the expense of the
war, and economic growth was hampered by the fact that each state had its own tariffs and
currencies. The Continental Congress was helpless to repair the dilemma because of its inability to
tax (Garraty, 1971).
In the middle of all the confusion, however, a commercial dispute, the Oyster War, between Virginia
and Maryland was successfully solved with assistance from General George Washington and James
Madison. Surprised and delighted, the Maryland delegation suggested a larger meeting, including a
few other states, to adopt a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
James Madison took every measure possible to ensure the success of the Constitutional Convention.
He began by urging the seemingly unenthusiastic Washington to attend the Convention, realizing
the importance of his appearance at this meeting. Washington was seen as the hero of the
revolution, and his absence would be disastrous to the public approval of any document the
Convention might agree on. Madison, understanding the eventual need for public approval as
well as the delegates , carefully persuaded the General to attend (Overview, 2000). Having
ensured that the meeting itself would meet with approval, Madison set to work to create a
proposal that would do the same. He prepared extensively for the Constitutional Convention before
it ever convened at Philadelphia, studying the strengths and weaknesses of every historical
government he could find information on. His studies were extremely intense; Madison delved
into well known and obscure forms of government alike, from all continents and peoples, searching
for the faults and virtues of each. He made extensive notes on all his readings, and compiled his
own ideas of how to create a successful government (Kauffmann, 2000). Upon sharing and
defending his views with his fellow delegates at the Virginia Convention, an extensive proposal

Adding to Native American casino fortunes, their casinos are likely to increase over the next few
years. It is noted that several states are reaching agreements to allow the introduction or expansion
of Native American casinos because of the additional revenues they can provide. This increases the
Native American casinos opportunities and consitutes a high barrier for new entrants. The major
source for this entry barrier is the cost disadvantage independent of scale regarding the favorable
government polices vis a vis the Indian Gaming and Recration Act of 1988.
Nevada casinos are the second leaders in revenue. The strengths that they have generated are the
availablity of more hotel rooms, fine dinning, excellent entertainment, shopping, mergers and
acquisitions, customer loyalty, and product differentiation among its rivals. With its many
strengths, Nevada casinos represent a high barrier for new entrants as well mainly due to
product differentiation and economies of scale. Nevada casios use differentiation on the basis of
special themes that characterizes their casinos, such as a medieval castle, a pirate ship, or a
movie studio. Nevado casinos also rely on economies of scale as many of the larger casinos are
expanding by buiding on additional rooms to bring in more customers. Eventhough Nevada casino
has many strengths, it also has a weaknesses.

What Is Auschwitz Concentration Camp
Auschwitz
Over 1 million jews were killed at the Auschwitz concentration camp. Jews were taken from their
homes and put into concentration camps against their will. The most famous of them was
Auschwitz. This concentration camp was by far the largest and had the biggest effect on the Jewish
Race.
Auschwitz was located in the suburbs of an abandoned city. The camp was originally a detention
center for political prisoners. But, the camp would soon be the biggest concentration camp in
history. Almost 1.25 million people that were deported to the camp would be killed.
The commanders of Auschwitz were Lieutenant Colonel Rudolf Huess and Colonel Arthur
Liebchenzel. They divided the camp into three different parts. The main camp, Birkenau, and the
third Manowitz. Most of the jews in the concentration camps were put in gas chambers, enslaved,
or sometimes died of starvation. Some of the prisoners weren t at the camps for very long if they

concentration camp.
This is why this single camp affected the jewish race so much. So, Auschwitz was a dangerous
and big camp. They killed you in the worst way possible and showed no mercy while not feeling
bad at all. But, the camp was eventually raided and thousands of corpses were left behind. This
would be the end of the most famous concentration camp in

Essay about The 1787 Constitutional Convention
The 1787 Constitutional Convention was paramount in unifying the states after the Revolutionary
War. However, in order to do so, the convention had to compromise on many issues instead of
addressing them with all due haste. This caused the convention to leave many issues unresolved.
Most notably were the issues of slavery, race, secession, and states rights. Through the Civil War
and the Reconstruction, these issues were resolved, and in the process the powers of the federal
government were greatly expanded. Slavery There was no significant desire among most delegates
to abolish slavery during the 1787 Constitutional Convention. In addition, the focus of the
convention was on forming a more perfect union, not dealing with the issue... Show more content on

That clause prohibited any amendment made to the Constitution prior to 1808 that interfered with
the three fifths compromise or the clause regarding Congress interference with the slave trade
(Dolbeare, 77). Lastly is The Fugitive Slave Clause in Article 4, Section 2 of the Constitution that
permitted the extradition of runaway slaves (Dolbeare, 77). While the compromises within the
constitution were necessary to ensure the formation of the United States, it is clear that the 1787
Congressional Convention did little to address the issue of slavery. The Civil War and the
Reconstruction brought about much change and turmoil throughout the United States. During
these periods, three main events occurred that resolved the issue of slavery, and expanded the
power of the federal government. First was Lincoln s delivery of the Emancipation
Proclamation on January 1, 1863. Lincoln declared, all persons held as slaves within any State
or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United
States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free (archives.gov). Lincoln s speech was simply
a declaration of policy that did not actually free any slaves. Nonetheless, it was important because
it paved the way for legislative reform that Lincoln worked so hard to effect. Lincoln barely
managed to get the necessary number of votes in the House of Representative to

Mass Incarceration And Drug Criminalization
In recent decades, low income Americans have been facing the consequences of living in a country
whose criminal justice system is greatly influenced by skewed prosecution dynamics, and whose
structural discrepancies continue to encourage the mass incarceration phenomenon that affects
millions of individuals today. At rates higher than Russia and China, the U.S is incarcerating an
entire portion of its population based on irrelevant criteria such as affluence and race. The harsh
reality that both, poverty stricken individuals and prisoninmates face today, indicate a dire need for
systematic change, and should encourage citizens to become informed members of society. As
citizens have come together, and government officials become involved, many reforms have been
introduced and passed which are conducive to a more restorative approach to justice.
Addressing every existent disparity in the criminal justice system is an extensive pursuit that limits
the exploration of pioneering reforms via overload of information rather than focusing on the
systemic approach that corresponds to one or two issues. I have chosen to focus on two major
disparities that are profoundly correlated: mass incarceration and drug criminalization. By exploring
the history behind each of them, and by exposing the constructs that seem to have taken the term
justice out of our law enforcement practices and policies, I aim to build a platform that will lead to
the exploration of current initiatives and reforms

Hedda Gabler And A Simple Heart
Have you ever heard the word Realism in literature and thought it was an act of being real ? In
fact, Realism was actually the response to Romanticism in which prior to Realism was a time of
growth in American Literature. Realism was considered to be a style of writing in which
authors sought after revealing life as it truly was. Many of the stories consisted of real life
people and real life situations that readers could related to in their daily lives. This time period
lasted from the late 1860 s until the early 1900 s. Authors such as Henrik Ibsen who write the
play Hedda Gabler and Gustave Flaubert who wrote A Simple Heart emphasized the main
character as being unhappy but somewhat heroic. In the play Hedda Gabler the main character is
Hedda Tasman, she is a young bride married to a very smart man named George Tasman. Hedda

Modernity has impacted many areas of day to day life in the 20th century, from the way that

  • 2. The Nazi Party Of Germany The Nazi Party of Germany aimed to create a racially pure society between the years 1933 through to 1945. This society, or Volksgemeinschaft, was to contain Hitler s ideological view on what a pure person, or Aryan should be. It also involved the exclusion of anyone who did not fit this mould. The Nazi partywas extremely successful in achieving their highly aimed goal. Through the Nazi s control over youth groups and in children s education, the Nazi Party and Hitler were able to reach this goal in the years 1933 to 1939, and this continued through World War Two till the end of 1945. The Nazi Party convinced children about their ideologies and by doing so paved a path for the new generation to be followers of the Third Reich. Not everyone supported the Nazi regime, but overall it was accepted by society, and the youth groups helped the Nazi party form their ideal society leading up to and during the war. When Hitler became Chancellor and passed the Enabling Act in 1933, it allowed the Nazi Party to have control over Germany. The controlling of the education system allowed the Nazi s to implement their beliefs and ideas in subjects. The Hitler Youth organisations were a way for the Nazi party to groom future supporters and members of the Nazi party. This included future SS members and the future perfect Aryan Nazi family. The policies they implemented in the schools and youth groups were what ultimately helped the Nazi party be successful in forming their idealistic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Investigation of Turkish Students Mathematics Performance based on PISA 2012 Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between selected student and school level variables and mathematics performance of Turkish students using PISA 2012 dataset. Two research questions were investigated: (1) How much do schools vary in their mean mathematics achievement in Turkey? (2) Which student and school level variables are associated with students mathematics performance in Turkey based on PISA 2012 results? • 5. The Theories Of Aggression And Sport Discuss the different ways in which theories of aggression relate to sport Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play. It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfulness, disregard of all rules, and sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence: in other words, it is war without the shooting. George Orwell (1948/1968). The sporting spirit. Collected essays, journalism and letters of George Orwell, vol. 4. London: Secker and Warburg. INTRODUCTION Human aggression means different things to different people, that depend from the field where the aggression is shown. In the sports world, the political arena or the business community, assertive behavior is often taken to be synonymous with aggression (Gordon W. Russel 2008) With the problems of behavior of individual people usually deal Behaviorism and according to that theory behavior of person depends on the emotions, circumstances and feelings. Aggression is one of such emotional states. One of the factors that defines personality is the level of his aggression or stiffness, which is basically the antonym of charity. Aggressiveness has different manifestations. Most of the relationship between violence and sports in the ancient world, derived from the connection between the ancient sport and war. Sport has a value as a method to combat readiness and he also had value as a substitute for direct military conflict. • 6. Comparing Hinduism And Shintoism Hinduism, Buddhism, and Shintoism Both Hinduism and Buddhism originated in India. Hinduism originated first when around 1500 B.C the Indian civilization was overtaken by an invasion of pastoral nomads from around the Caspian Sea, north of Persia. These nomads continued to invade the region over several hundred years, conquering and settling among the native people. As a result of the clashes between these two cultures Hinduism emerged as a result of the fusion of the beliefs that the native people of India and the new arrivals had. Hindu priests created a caste system to deal with the problems caused by racial tensions between the new arrivals and the native Indians. The caste system divided the population into groups in which highest caste were the Hindu priests, who were followed by the warriors, the farmers and merchants, the servants and laborers, and ultimately the lowest caste were the war captives and slaves. The first encounter between Hinduism and Buddhism occurred consequently when Buddhism was created, since a Hindu prince named Siddhartha Gautama (also known as Buddha or The enlightened ) created ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first conflict in which there was significant violence occurred in the third century B.C. when the Mauryan emperor Ashoka embraced Buddhism and banned animal sacrifices. This action angered many Hindus who in return persecuted Buddhists after the Mauryan Empire fell. After these events the relationship between Hindus and Buddhists became very hostile until finally in the 13th century Buddhism became extinct in India, however, Buddhism kept spreading in Asia. Another more recent conflict between Buddhists and Hindus can be appreciated in Sri Lanka. This conflict was a civil war between the Sinhalese (which are mostly Buddhist) and the Tamil (which are mostly Hindus) that started on 1984 and ended in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Cafe Window In the early evening back at home Consuelo was still pacing in front of the cafГ© window. Concerned for the safety of her only son, who had departed this morning wearing his sleepwear and robe. Her jaw fell open when on the sidewalk before her appeared Stella and Sol, with much audacity. Carrying up the path garment bags from a high end department store. Behind them was Dr. Edwards who had just pulled in after his long shift at work. He walked towards Stella who was standing in front of the door. He greeted her with a big, juicy, wet, kiss, then they all just walked right in. Consuelo, who was still owning her tantrum, was offended by their smiles and casual stances. Not wanting to believe what she was seeing when she questioned, Are those really garment bags you carrying? Calm and collect Sol put on her sarcastic tone and lifted her head and retorted You saw the wedding invitation. My daughter gets married next Saturday. We will dress impeccably well for the fiasco. Consuelo who was speechless regained her composure for a moment, I understand that she became a loon, but did I miss something with you two? My son is going to be crushed, while you are going to look your finest for the biggest mistake your daughter is going to make in her life? I just don t understand. Lecture #4 Drifting Toward Disunion by Ayush Goel Background Information As a result of a crisis in Kansas, known as the Bleeding Kansas, the Democratic Party was divided. Meanwhile, the Congress was divided on the topic of slavery, some strongly anti slavery and others pro slavery. In the election of 1856, three parties had representatives: the Democrats, the Republicans and the American Party. The Democrats won, however the new president: James Buchanan, favored the South. Abraham Lincoln, known as Abe , came along and challenged the Senator Stephen Douglas to a debate. Washington Irving s Rip Van Winkle Shapes American Culture Darkness...lowers upon my mind, and the times are so hard they sicken my soul, says Washington Irving in a letter to a friend (Letters 446). This statement reveals Irving s intense emotional condition, and in many ways indicates the intense social atmosphere as well as his personal conflicts, during the composition of The Sketch Book. Upon the bankruptcy of his family s fortune, of which he depended on solely for his monetary security, Irving found himself flung into the galling mortifications of independence (Letters 487). In response to this trauma, he sailed to England to regain his composure and hopefully secure his stake as a writer so he could provide for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And this incapacitation resulted in great despondency until one night when speaking to Van Wart (the owner of the house where he stayed). Upon Van Wart s attempts to cheer him, Irving s mind suddenly let loose and thoughts came with a rush, faster than he could write them (Williams 168). This is an excerpt describing the night he wrote The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle: ...for being fettered so long by the ice of long mental despondency. Until morning and through the small hours he wrote. At morning the June sun shone through the shutters, revealing him still bent over his table. The Van Warts at breakfast looked up to see him enter, radiant, the fresh manuscript in his hand. He said it had all come back to him; Sleepy Hollow had awakened him from his long dull, desponding slumber; and then he read the first chapters of Rip Van Winkle (Williams 169). The composition of these sketches was sporadic in nature and it seems as if the Muses opened up their floodgates on Irving that night. This aspect of the composition of these stories, as well The Sketch Book as a whole, adds somewhat of a romantic atmosphere on Irving as a writer. Because so many want to believe that authors somehow transcend normal human efforts, and their hands and minds are just vessels for the words, thoughts, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Symbolism in Kate Chopin s The Awakening Essay Symbolism in Kate Chopin s The Awakening Chopin s The Awakening is full of symbolism. Rather than hit the reader on the head with blunt literalism, Chopin uses symbols to relay subtle ideas. Within each narrative segment, Chopin provides a symbol that the reader must fully understand in order to appreciate the novel as a whole. I will attempt to dissect some of the major symbols and give possible explanations as to their importance within the text. Art itself is a symbol of both freedom and failure. In her attempt to become an artist, Edna reaches the zenith of her awakening. She begins to truly understand pure art as a means of self expression as well as self assertion. In a similar way, Mlle. Reisz sees the path to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A division exists between her and her environment as well as between her social character and her awakening instincts (59). When she commits suicide she is finally naked, she has shed everything she has in her quest for selfhood. But it is not only Edna who is symbolized in clothes, Adele is more careful of her face in the seventh chapter and wears a veil. Both she and Madame Leburn constantly make clothes to cover the body, and the woman in black and Mlle. Reisz never change their clothes, symbolizing their distance from any physical attachment. There are several symbolic meals in the text and each stress mythic aspects in the text. The meal on Cheniere Caminada occurs after she awakens from a fairy tale sleep; the dinner party in chapter thirty is viewed by some as a re creation of the Last Supper. There are many symbolic houses in the novel: the one on Grand Isle, the one in New Orleans, the pigeon house, the house in which Edna falls asleep on Cheniere Caminada. The first two of these houses serve as cages for Edna. She is expected to be a mother woman on Grand Isle and to be the perfect social hostess in New Orleans. The other two are places of supposed freedom. On the island she can sleep and dream, and in the pigeon house she can create a world of her own. In the same way, places have a similar significance. In today s society criminals are still labeled as monsters, little effort is made to understand what influences their actions. However criminals are too average human beings and examining why crimes are committed can help law enforcement better handled and prevented future acts of crimes. Why do we label criminals instead of understanding their behavior? What factors influence people to commit crimes? By understanding the factors influencing the crimecan future crimes be prevented? In an article by O Toole called, Words Matter and Labels Make a Difference , she discusses how labels such as monster limit the public from understanding why the crimes were committed. In the article, An Act of Evil? When Monsters Kill , O Toole explains the reasoning behind a father killing himself and his two sons. Janet Reitman discusses the life of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the man responsible for the Boston Marathon bombing in the Rolling Stone article, Jahar s World . Liberalism, conservatism, socialism, fascism, feminism, and environmentalism are well known political ideologies. This forced British radicals, from the 1790s to the 1820s to emphasize the importance of natural rights and popular sovereignty in areas concerning government. Now that we understand the liberalist side of things, let s look into the socialist government. Socialism emphasizes much different views compared to liberalism. Socialism is based on the theory of collectivism meaning human beings are social by nature, not individuals, and society should respect this and refrain from acting in an individualistic manner. It also believes in public ownership of property by society and government, not individuals, which gives controls of production and property of most companies to the government. Furthermore, the socialistic idea of central economic planning replaces any free market liberal view of class and wealth. This allows the government to own and control the economy in an attempt to make everyone equal in terms of wealth and standards of living. This promotes the idea of economic equality among citizen s instead forcing people to work for what they have because it supports wealth redistribution. People of a Socialist government rely heavily on their government in terms of control the means of production such as manufacturing and agriculture. • 15. Her Breaking Point You must be Brooklyn, the middle aged lady, behind the counter, beams. Her warm greeting seemed to calm my growing nerves. She leans over the counter abruptly, wrapping her strong arms around my body. The nerves were back. As soon as she pulls away my eyes scan the small shop, searching for any possible audience. Luckily the only other person inside was oblivious to the situation. The stranger instantly grasps my attention; his lean body was nearly pressed against the shelf, and his head darts to the left and then to the right, before returning to its previous position. Under closer observation I notice how his arm reaches out and the way his fingers wrap around a bottle of alcohol I presume and how he quickly stuffed the bottle into his coat, letting the black material envelope it... That guys stealing, I spoke in a hushed tone, and my body shook with fear. What was that dear? The lady asks. That guy is stealing, the lady spun towards the guy. Put that back, she yells, her demand was followed by the guy breaking into a sprint and exiting through the door. The lady s hand digs into her pocket and pulls out a mobile phone. Shouldn t we go after him? I don t know why I asked that, it s not as if I was going to go after him. That s dangerous. No, I ll just call the owner, so he knows that someone has stolen something. Zapotoczny, an author and historian, once said, Each of the great powers believed they had something to gain from war, fostering the national pride and the national positioning that made World War Iinevitable. This is true, as imperialism and militarism were a large part of national pride. Austria Hungary, for example, wanted Serbia. The German military was expanding rapidly. With each argument countries got into, hatred became stronger. Eventually, the European tensions snapped and everything toppled into terrible war. World War I was inevitable due to each of the great powers being imperialistic, militaristic, and prepared for war. During the early 1900 s, the European great powers believed they all had something to gain from expanding. Land in Africa was being claimed by countries such as France and Great Britain. A main goal for all the countries of Europe was growing. Austria and Hungary joined together into a dual monarchy in 1867. This country annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1908. Germany was annoyed at not having as much space in Africa, which is imperialistic because it is territorial. Imperialism was popular during the time. The great powers believed they could become better through imperialism. In this case, imperialism is showing national pride because the expansion of a country makes it more powerful. • 20. Cultural Relativism And Its Impact On The World Cultural relativism is the idea that all cultures are equal and no one is better than another. This way of thinking was created and elaborated on by three main philosophers. Franz Boas, Alain Locke and Robert Lowie were nineteenth century philosophers who shaped the ideas on concepts of Cultural Relativism. These three men focused on the idea that one cannot judge other cultures because they only see through eyes that have been influenced by their surroundings. They used relativist ideas that existed already and expressed them on the world and the many different cultures that exist in it. They created a mainly atheistic viewpoint in which the idea of a central moral truth and a higher power was discounted. Only the people within a culturecould create moral codes and laws for themselves. Franz Boas was born on July 19, 1858 in Minden, Germany. Boas grew up in a well educated family and was encouraged to follow his own beliefs and think for himself. From a very young age, Franz Boas was interested in natural history and studied it throughout his years of schooling. He continued his studies and graduated with a degree in physics, even though he considered himself more of a geographer than a physicist. This interest in geography is what drove him to delve deeper into the ideas of cultural difference and led to the beginnings of cultural relativism. • 21. Causes Of Fear Of Crime Gilchrist et al (1998, pg283) explains that the fear of crime has become a phenomenon and one that will be discussed within this journal review exploring whether or not women s fear is rational or not. McLaughlin (2001) cited in Kinsella, C (2005) defines fear of crime as ...a rational or irrational state of alarm or anxietyengendered by the belief that one is in danger of criminal victimisation . Campbell (2005, pg120) explains that due to social political mobility, women s fear of rapeis heightened, thus women are dependent on men to protect them from other men, however, it has been shown that family members and close friends are normally the rapists. Alongside this, Campbell (2005, pg121) continues to explain that through a criminological and victimological viewpoint, the institutional, political and cultural surroundings additionally express that women are more at risk than men. The British CrimeSurvey contributes further evidence of women being assaulted by men they know as the survey showed that 32% of women were sexually assaulted by a partner compared to 8% by strangers. Gilchrist et al (1998, pg284) explains that with a low crime threat, women still have an irrational response. However, feminist writers explain that this could be due to the fact that women suffer sexual harassment and have less control over their space than men do, thus the higher fear levels. Furthermore, Gilchrist (1998, pg285) tells us that women are are not hysterically overreacting to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Today was the day I learned that Tony Weston, a kid that I went to high school with, had committed suicide a month after our graduation. I am 28 years old now, so graduation was ten years ago. The teachers at my high school hated me. I showed no effort in anything that I did and I was extremely obnoxious in class. They wanted to get rid of me as soon as possible just like my parents. My dad was in the Navy so he wasn t home much. When he was, it was like our family were his men; he ordered us to do everything. He would always stare me down after he demanded something of me and I had to give the reply of, yes sir. My parents got a divorce while I was in high school and that s when my life took a turn for the worst. After graduation, I left town and headed for New York City to pursue a new life. I didn t learn what happened to Tony until today when I got a card in the mail from Easton High School in the rural town of Easton, New York. An invitation to the ten year reunion for my class. On the inside of the invitation listed all one hundred fifty or so names of our graduating class. I hadn t seen any of these people in ten years because I had never gone back to Easton since graduation day. My first reaction was that I was not going, so I threw the card in the trash. The environmental scan focused mainly on the competitive aspect and left out many external factors. In order to give adequate attention to the external environment, a PESTEL analysis was conducted. This helped determine external factors that the gaming industry faced that were not in control of a single company, or their competitors. PESTEL In the political aspect of PESTEL, the main focus was on globalization and product dispersion. Most gaming devices are made overseas, China and Brazil, so international trade plays a major part in acquiring these products (CITE FROM SCAN). Items like trade restrictions, import duties and taxation are all things no competitor in the gaming console industry has control over. The legal section shares many similarities to the political one. The main focus here was trade and internet regulations. Gaming has shifted from being a solo action, to one played with others around the world. The top economic concern in this industry is the amount disposable income available. Gaming is a luxury good, so as income falls the sales of the product decreases as well (CITE). MPLS helps with the transfer of data between different business locations and it has the ability to scale for any size business so it makes it a very valuable investment. MPLS takes away all constant routinglookups associated with regular IP routing and provides high quality performance for company networks. MPLS Description Multi Protocol Label Switching(MPLS) is a technology that uses label switching to more data over a network. MPLS is technology that businesses use to create their own private WAN (Wide Area Network). MPLS is used to connect different LAN s (Local Area Network) together that exist in different areas of the country. When first talking about MPLS one must understand that MLPS isn t a service is more known as a technique. This means that it can be used for many different services that may not be known as MPLS. MPLS seems to operate in the middle of the OSI model layers 2 and 3 so it is somewhat of a layer 2.5 protocol. The reasoning being is that MPLS sits between those layers is because it provides more features for data transportation on a network. One of the basic concepts MPLS is packet labeling or label switching. In a regular Internet Protocol (IP) routing, every router makes a IP lookup in order to determine the next router in the routing table. Which then forwards the packet and this process continues for every router until ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The short story Gregory by Panos Ioannides creates a setting where the characters are involved in the 1925 revolutionary conflict between Britain and Cyprus. To make matters worse, fellow soldiers inform the executioner that he must to kill Gregory or else the Headquarters will execute him for failure to obey orders. Therefore, he struggles with the decision to either please his society or stay true to his friendshipwith Gregory. The author emphasizes this difficulty with use of mood, stream of consciousness, foreshadowing and visual imagery. Thus, Panos Ioannides short storyGregory develops the idea that society s expectations and relationships can influence one s moral decisions and create consequences. To begin with, Ioannides exemplifies this idea with the use of mood. The executioner struggles to pull the trigger when the soldiers watch him, and he seems nervous. This is apparent when the executioner mentions, My hand was sweating...curve of the trigger biting against my finger...soldiers were watching... (Ioannides 142). The conflict between these characters creates an emotional impact and sets a tense mood. To add on, the tense mood establishes the social pressures the executioner faces as his peers watch him. There are many types of PED s but the main two are Lean Mass Builders and Stimulants. Lean mass builders, which increase the growth of muscle and lean body mass, are popular for athletes who play contact sports. Stimulants can increase athletic performance by increasing focus, energy, metabolic rate, and aggression. If everyone wanted to level the playing field, maybe it s time to legalize performance enhancing drugs. Legalizing PEDs would make life so much easier for professional sports organizations that are currently tasked with keeping their players legal under the anti doping policies. It would be easier to allow PEDs in sports than to constantly test athletes that are suspected cheaters. Dom ended up invited him to his birthday party, and with hesitation, Malcolm and his friends decide to go. After an eventful night, Malcolm and his friends later discover that Dom had stashed a handgun and a large amount of drugs in his backpack to hide it from the police who raided the party. The rest of the movie plays out into a war over the drugs that Malcolm accidentally possessed. Malcolm ends up selling the drugs and promises Dom s prominent supplier, who was also coincidentally Malcolm s college interviewer, the profits made from the drugs. Malcolm makes this deal with him only as long as he helps Malcolm achieve his goal of getting into Harvard. Malcolm ends up setting up the supplier with the police while still getting into Harvard and finally being able to get out of the hood. In terms of black masculinity, Malcolm counteracts the hyper aggressive stereotypesthat some have in their head about young African American men. • 37. Romantic Love I choose to describe the putative relationship between Adam and Caroline in the movie Untamed Heart . It starts off with Caroline in a just ending relationship where she is hung up on the guy that left her. Her friends call her on it and help her refrain from trying to repair it. This guy Adam is a hard working, quiet, shy, very shy especially around Caroline, because he has a serious infatuation about her. Every thing she does he studies. In the beginning of the movie it starts out that he has a deep infatuation with her. He even follows her home without her even knowing, until one day she was almost getting raped, and he saved her because of his infatuation for her. And, of course, the other s well beingВ—something you care aboutВ—requires that nonsubservient autonomy too. It seems as they slowly develop this romantic relationship with each other it never could get worse, they have added a new entity to the world. Adams infatuation becomes love, or is Adams infatuation love, or does it become a stronger love? I say all of the above, especially stronger because his fantasies come true. And as Caroline finds out he can fulfill her properties she looks for in a man. Until his heart fails once more this time leading to death. With this loss of his life, Caroline is not whole anymore, she is only herself, that identity of them together is gone. Now she will have to go on with a new identity because the one that was created with Adam is no longer there physically. Where Nozicks view comes falls short of the relationship is when he says that infatuation might hold people together until they are stuck, or in love. Because in this relationship only one had an infatuation on the other. I totally agree with Nozicks view that if we are in a good situation there should be no reason to ruin it by trading up. • 38. Informed Decision Making Data is very important and critical to any organisation, so is in the telecommunication industries. Information that can be easily used must be available so that the decisions makers within an industry can make informed decisions based on visible facts projected by the data available. If this is not the case, decision making processes can become extremely challenging and, in some cases, impossible. The flow of information within an organization is critical to the success of that organization (Davenport Prusak, 1998). Organizations struggle in collecting data, retrieving information and making decisions based on the extracted information. A decision making process consists of making judgments based on the qualitative data. There are several different types of systems like Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), which are being used by organizations to make decision processes. These systems have progressed tremendously in the last few years by making large amounts of information accessible using data marts and data warehouses (Wixom Watson, 2001). The above mentioned systems and many more that are not mentioned above allow managers to analyse data depending on the business requirements, to make better informed decisions. These systems have made the decision making processes easy to a certain point, when used properly. If this system are not used effectively, they can prevent optimization of the decision making process. Humans are the once who make decisions in any organisation/industry and not... The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas, is a story of a sailor, Edmond Dantes, who was betrayed during his prime time of his life by the jealousy of his friends. Once hearing that Valentine had been poison, the Count states, What is it to me? (Dumas, 517). This shows that the Count is a new person indeed, since if it was Edmond Dantes, he would have sprung up and run over to Valentine to help her since he had acquired a knowledge of medicines to help poisoned people. If Edmond Dantes was still living up to his birth name, he would not have acted and said these things, unless he really changed who he originally was. Even though, the Count tried to become a new person both physically and mentally, the old Edmond Dantes still interfered with his actions. When Morrel comes to the Count and tells him about Valentines poison, the Count thinks nothing of it, but as soon as Morrel told the Count that he loves Valentine, old Edmond Dantes shines through. When Valentine and the Count converse in chapter sixty one, the Count remarks, I have not closed my eyes for an instant during the last four nights; for the last four nights I have been watching over you to protect and preserve you for our friend Maximilian (Dumas, 526). This shows that the Count did not really care for Valentine, but as soon as a loyal family friend as the Morrel s asked for his help, Edmond Dantes stepped up and would do anything to lend a helping hand. Jim Crow Laws, laws they enforced racial segregation, were put in place from the late nineteenth century through the 1950s (Shi and Brown 599). • 43. Art In An Art World Art is not just a picture on a wall or in a museum, art comes in many forms. It can be a song you just heard, a video you watched, or a painting you saw in a gallery. Art can also be just text but no matter what all forms of art grasp you in different ways and make your thoughts evolve to new distances. Art can bring you feelings you did not think you had. This is what an art world truly is, a combination of all the work that was put into the art and how it impacted people s lives. Art worlds consist of all the people whose activities are necessary to the production of the characteristic works which that world, and perhaps others as well, define as art (Becker, p. 34). Becker also says an art world is the network of people whose cooperative activity, organized via their joint knowledge of conventional means of doing things, produce the kind of art works that art world is noted for. An art world is very similar to an industry but the art business is so small that the social factor isn t strong enough to consider it an industry. The people who create the artwork will see the same people interested in the same artwork at the same art shows, galleries, and other events year after year. In order to have an art world and artwork in it, we need the artists to create art and an audience to critic and appreciate the art. Without an audience there would be no variation in the types of art as the audience has a huge influence in what artists make. For instance, without the reaction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
