Time Goes By So Fast
Time goes by so fast. It s been almost a year since I moved in the US. What happened the first week
since I landed here it s something I will always remember. Last December I came in Peabody because
my sister lives here so I could spend a couple of days with her before moving to Fort Lauderdale,
Florida where I was registered for the winter semester. I didn t know much about where I was going to
live so my brother in law offered to come with me and help me to know the place better. We left
Boston early in the morning and took place in our seats. After a couple of hours Terens, my brother in
law started to feel dizzy and after that he told me that he was feeling abdominal pain. After that he was
constantly going to vomit at the restroom so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be sincere I never thought about it. What is the appendix?
The appendix is a pouch the size of a finger part of the large intestine and placed in the lower right
abdomen. It is not yet fully understood its operation, although some theories suggest that it plays a
secondary role in the immune system, is the widespread view that it is totally unnecessary. The
removal of the appendix does not seem to have any effect on a person s health. What causes
appendicitis? Obstruction of the lumen (the inside of the Appendix) can cause appendicitis. The mucus
produced recedes into the lumen causing the multiplication of bacteria normally found in the
appendix. The consequence is that the appendix swells and becomes infected.
Sources of obstruction can be: feces, parasites, abnormal growth of the lymphatic tissue (for example
due to the Crohn s disease), foreign bodies or stones (grapes, cherries, peppers) tumors. An inflamed
appendix probably burst if not removed. Bursting would spread the infection throughout the abdomen,
causing peritonitis.
To whom it may happen? All subjects can be appendicitis, but is most common in people between 10
and 30 years of age.
What are the symptoms of appendicitis? Most people with appendicitis classic symptoms that any
doctor can easily identify. The main symptom is abdominal pain, usually sudden, often inducing a
person to wake up at night: you hear

Essay on Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD s), also known as venereal diseases (VD s), are spread by sexual
contact where certain germs travel from one person to another or by the exchange of body fluids.
There is a pithy range of frequent STD s, which include Syphilis, Chlamydia, Genital Herpes,
Gonorrhea, and AIDS. Anyone who is sexually active can contract an STD and more than thirteen
million people are contaminated every single year, three million of which are teenagers. In addition,
there are common symptoms that are acquired by these STD s and transmission may vary for each
kind. Fortunately enough, ways to prevent STD s are possible and there are treatments if an STD is
contracted. General symptoms of STD s can be genital sores, ... Show more content on

To many people s disclosure you can contract an STD fairly rapidly. This can be by unprotected anal,
vaginal or oral sex. Intimate skin contact can also be a way to transmit a disease, for example genital
to genital contact, even without penetration. This type of skin contact can contract diseases like
Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Herpes, or Syphilis. On the other hand, AIDS, which can be transmitted by
sexual contact, can also be contracted by contact to infected blood or sharing of contaminated needles
for any kind of drug use. So how can you avert being infected, if STD s can be transmitted so easily?
Most people agree that abstinence is the most effective way of preventing STD s. This would include
not having sex at an early age, sex with an assortment of partners or sex with prostitutes. People that
do decide to be sexually active can take diverse safety measures. One way of prevention can be the
use of a condom or another kind of contraceptive against STD s. Others will simply decide to talk to
their partner about other sexual partners they have had in the past who may have been infected, if they
have had or been exposed to an STD, have symptoms of one, or are conscious that they currently are
contracting an STD. On behalf of people that have not decided for abstinence or have not taken
precautions to prevent an STD, this may result in contracting one. Well what can they do? First of all,
it is best to be

The Security Of Airport Security Screening
In the last thirteen years there have been major changes made in airport security. What brought the
changes and shook America to its core, is a day in history that no one will soon forget. Since 9/11, five
attempted terrorist attacks on U.S. airliners and airports have made airport security a continued
priority. Shortly after the 9/11 attacks, Congress passed the Aviation and Transportation Security Act,
which created the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and put federal employees in charge
of airport security screening (Bajoria). The process for airport security screenings lacked the ability to
secure a plane which caused the terrorist to be able to board the plane with ease. There are those that
argue that the increase in security has cost the country too much money and does more harm than
good. The U.S. has spent more than a trillion dollars to increase the security in all the airports across
the nation. According to Paul Borowsky and Gregory Delone, pilots were asked to complete surveys
to what they believed needed to be changed. In his book, the pilot wrote that policies were designed to
enhance security, however, he believed that they didn t take into consideration input from the pilots of
the airliners that the policies were made to protect. There is also the argument that the increased
security was an invasion of privacy. Passengers were having all their belongings placed on a table and
gone through which allowed other passengers to see

My Duty For Volunteering At Virginia Commonwealth...
Over the course of a month, I dedicated time to volunteer with agencies that focus on providing safe
and productive programs for children. Stop Child Abuse Now also known as SCAN, focuses on
stopping/preventing child abuse in homes. This agency teams with many different agencies around
Richmond to help parents and children coop and learn way to avoid situations of abuse. My duty for
volunteering was teaming with Virginia Commonwealth University Health Services and making
SCAN a known organization throughout Richmond community. VCU threw a wellness block party
that included many different health services but also gave members of the community to learn and
seek help with many different organizations that were there promoting their business or organization. I
sat with one other girl and passed out flyers and contact information to those who were interested in
the organizations. I explained to individuals what the program was about and the benefits of the
program. I had one particular interaction with this young mother who explained she was in a situation
where children were being abused and the authorities were notified and now she s seeking counseling
for her and the children involved. I and the other young lady volunteering with me were able to give
her information on the program and also contact numbers to individuals that could help her situation.
This young woman was very grateful and happy she found an organization that could assist her with
her situation. From this

Group Minds, By Doris Lessing
We, as humans, like to believe that we always stand out in a crowd and never conform to please
society. We hold our freedom to be individuals higher than most of our other freedoms. Humans
believe that we always use this individualism to speak our opinions. We think that we would never
change our views to comply with a group. As much as we would like to believe this, it seems that
more often than not, we tend to follow the crowd. In her article Group Minds , Doris Lessing was on
the right track when she described how humans stand for choice and individualism, but when faced
with the situation, most tend to fall in line with the majority.
The title of Lessing s article speaks for itself, as it is no longer just our own mind that is making ...

As humans, we are drawn to groups for numerous reasons. Society as a whole is very social. When
you are a part of a group it allows you to be sociable. Additionally, we are drawn to these groups
because we have a craving to feel wanted. Humans enjoy the feeling of being wanted. Another reason
we are drawn together is we want to fit in. We desire to be accepted by others and fear judgement if
we don t agree with everyone else. This then causes us to conform to the rest of society and act in a
similar fashion. Humans wish to be accepted, and we try not to draw attention to ourselves because of
this. Love, support, and affection is what we gain from these groups. Qualities such as these are what
draws us to groups. In time of despair we tend to lean on the other members to prevent us from
sinking. The formation of cliques grants us a system of dependable people, which is a main reason we

To: Carl Rausch From: Sukhada Kulkarni RE: Release of Oxyglobin Date: October 30, 2013 The
intent of this document is to provide suggestion for the timeline to release Oxyglobin. I would
recommend releasing Oxyglobin to the market as soon as possible. Situation Analysis: There has been
a debate if Oxyglobin release should be delayed by two years as it might jeopardize the sales of
Hemopure. The concern here is that the estimated price of Oxyglobin ($150 per unit) might not allow
Hemopure to be released at a higher estimated price as $600 per unit. As per my analysis this should
not be a major concern as the advantages of releasing outweighs this concern. Here are the reasons
why Oxyglobin should be released soon in the market: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ludbrook highlights that the code of ethics of the association of child and adolescent psychotherapists
includes a broad requirement that its members do not abuse their position by taking advantage of
clients for purposes of personal, institutional, political, financial or sexual gain. (Ludbrook, 2012,
p77). The Code of Health and Disability Support Services Consumers Rights 1996 outlines that all
clients have a right to be respected in relation to their ethnicity, religious values, gender, and cultural
differences. When counselling Māori children or young people, then the counsellor must uphold the
principles within the treaty of Waitangi. Ludbrook emphasises that in order for counsellors to
effectively provide bicultural practice, they must have an understanding of Māori language, traditions
and cultural values. (Ludbrook, 2012, p78).
There have been several Humanistic and Existential human development theories which are of great
use when counselling children and young people. Some key theorists in these fields include Carl
Rogers, who believed in the inherent nature of the individual to find their own answers to the
problems through non directive counselling. Virginia Axline, who, like Rogers, believed in the ability
of the child to solve their own problems through non directive play in a safe environment. Fritz Perls,
who emphasised the experience of bodily sensations, thoughts and

Eastmouth Essay
Eastmouth
The crowd is nearing the foot of the hill; they are close now and one by one they look at the wom an
in the transparent mac and they nod (P.5 L.188 189) Alison Moore´s horror story Eastmouth (2014)
shows that you do not have to include monsters and other supernatural beings to be scary. Instead,
Alison Moore excels in creating an eerie mood filled with foreshadowing and small clues to let you
know something is truly off in Eastmouth. As we follow the story in Sonia´s, the main char acter, point
of view, we experience the slow build up and the gradual realization that she is not go ing home, as if
we were there. This is coupled with the other characters who are also seemingly nor mal, but becomes
more and more intrusive as the story moves forward. In the end, we learn that maybe you should not
go to a place where someone seems overly eager to take you in and keep you. ... Show more content

It takes places at a seaside resort where Peter´s family lives. Sonia is coming to visit, but does not plan
to stay long as she hopes to get a job in the summer. However, Eastmouth is awfully quiet and empty
for a seaside resort nearing the summer. When Peter remarks that everyone will know they have
arrived; Sonia looks around and can only see two people. She responds, It s quiet (P.1 L.24) to which
Peter says, It s quiet most of the year (P.1 L.24). So either they are just in off season or people from
outside rarely visits. As the story progresses and we learn more about Peter s family, it becomes
abundantly clear that it is very much the second option. Again, this is supported when Peter tells Sonia
about the show that is being played every year and happily stating, nothing ever changes (P.1 L.28).
However, this is all on the first page, but we still get the impression of Eastmouth as an isolated town
with few people, which sets an eerie mood for the

Marvin Gaye s Song Inner City Blues
Inner City Blues Inner City Blues, short for Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler) is a song
written by, the pop/R B classic, Marvin Gaye and James Nyx Jr. This song was released as the third
and final single from the compelling song of his 1971 milestone album, What s Going On. In this
song, Gaye talks about poverty and hopelessness in the ghetto urban places of the 1960 s. Many of
Gaye s songs contain political and social issues; Inner City Blues is great melody that depicts the
political injustice seen during the Vietnam War. Inner City Blues, inspired by political unrest over the
Vietnam War and Marvin Gaye s brother experiences from the war, helped Gaye become one of many
artists who have had three or more songs on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Not Excusable, But Certainly Forgivable Essay
Serena Williams 10 second tirade in the 2009 U.S. Open tennis tournament may have cost her the semi
final match, but what is the lasting impression on her legacy (Ford 1)? Sometimes during a sporting
event, athletes let their emotions get the best of them. Their attitude is like a ticking time bomb,
waiting to be set off by a bad call from the line judge, a good shot by the opponent, or a simple
mistake made by the player. Many people believe athletes should be able to control their emotions and
always exhibit great sportsmanship. However, the media and most spectators have never been in the
same high pressure situations as these athletes, and they should not judge without personal experience.

Consider figure skating s Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan. In 1994, the assault of Nacy Kerrigan
by a hired assailant, supposedly hired by Harding, made the headlines and peaked the ratings of figure
skating (Mass Moments 1). Publicity is publicity, whether it is positive or negative (Bondy 1). Serena
was quoted in her apology as saying, The whole point of leaning from your mistakes is not to do the
same thing. She pledged that she would not allow herself to lose control again (Ford 1). Many will
argue that Serena s raging personality and internal fire make her one of the best female tennis players
of all time (Bondy 2). Long time tennis coach, Nick Bolletteri, called what Serena did not excusable,
but certainly forgivable (2). Obviously, what she did was unacceptable, but she should be forgiven by
society as a whole.
Another debatable topic on Williams boorish act is how it fits in with the role of her gender. The
foolish foot fault call can be compared to an illegal defense violation made in the final seconds of a
tight NBA Finals game. Many analysts say that her reaction to the horrendous call was similar to the
reaction of a man. Serena s poor sportsmanship is proof that women can act as irrationally as me, but
should women be punished more harshly than men (Bondy 1)? Serena was fined $82,500 which is
nearly double the previous highest fine at $48,000 to Jeff Tarango in the 1990 s when he stormed off

Jay Gatsby is a wealthy man from West Egg New York. Gatsby is known by everyone and is very
famous for his extravagant and lavish parties. Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan first met in Daisy s
hometown of Louisville in 1917. Daisy s best friend, Jordan Baker, described the time she caught the
two kissing in Daisy s car to Nick, explaining, They [Daisy and Gatsby] were so engrossed in each
other that she didn t see me until I was five feet away... The officer looked at Daisy while she was

He comes back from the war and is now abundantly wealthy. He purchases a mansion in West Egg,
New York, directly across the lake from East Egg (Fitzgerald 83), where his old love Daisy now lives
with her husband, Tom. He begins to throw elegant parties, hoping that one day Daisy will show up to
one of his parties and he will be able to reunite with her (Fitzgerald 84). One day, Nick invited Daisy
over for tea, reuniting Gatsby and Daisy. They rekindle their old love, and sparks fly. They spend
increasing amounts of time together, making Gatsby once again fall head over heels for Daisy. Gatsby
invites Daisy to one of his parties, and after the party, he explains to Nick that he felt as though she did
not like it (Fitzgerald 116). He also reveals that all he wants is for Daisy to tell Tom that she never
loved him, to which Nick responds by telling Gatsby he should not ask her to do very much because
he cannot repeat what happened in the past (Fitzgerald 116). Gatsby then says that he is going to make
sure that he is going to make everything that him and Daisy had come back and it will be like it used
to be (Fitzgerald 117). Nick then thinks to himself ... he [Gatsby] wanted to recover something, some
idea of himself perhaps, that had gone into loving Daisy. His life had been confused and disordered

The Battle At Bunker Hill
The Battle at Bunker Hill had many events leading up to, and causing the event. The first of these was
the Battle at Lexington and Concord which ultimately slowed the British down and keeping them
inside Boston by Minute Men. Then Fort Ticonderoga was captured by Benedict Arnold, and the
Green Mountain Boys. These two events were the start of the tensions between Great Britain and the
Colonies. Later this tension became physical and appearing on the battle field. The Colonies decided
they needed to talk about it, so the Second Continental Congress took place, it was here that it was
decided that the Colonies would try and separate from their Mother Country, so the Continental Army
was formed the Congress came to a conclusion All voted in favor and Washington became the new
Commander in Chief (Yost, 2011, p. 2). The Continental Army s first mission was to fortify Breed s
Hill and defend it from the British coming from Boston, which Breed s Hill and Bunker Hill
overlooked. The British wanted these positions in order to completely fortify Boston and drive all the
Patriots out of the area. On June 16, 1775, a day before the actual battle was fought, the Colonial
Army decided to move from Bunker Hill to Breed s Hill. This is where most of the battle was fought;
it was never correctly changed since the fight. The reason for the switch is simple, and makes sense
for the small, independent and poor militia. The men built earthen fortifications on top of Breed s Hill,

your nationality is difficult. To be Egyptian you have to know how to tell jokes and to understand the

Merton Model Of Social Deviance
Merton, (1938) model of social deviance desires to refute Freudians and similar theorists that
hypothesize biological abnormalities as a valid explanation for deviance. Their theory further posits
that institutions only exist to channel deviance through some form of utilitarian calculus or unreasoned
conditioning (p. 680). That is, using punishment to deter deviance rather using it as a form of
retribution. Merton, instead, wants to articulate how institutions can itself prompt deviance, and
sustain a significant degree of control over it. He proposes a 2 phase model (673) on how society
structures individual behavior: the first phase is the cultural goal , the putative end for which we ought
to struggle. The second aspect is institutional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather, these postmodernists focus on the fragmented and heterogeneous nature of our culture, to
suggest that punks are not so much engaging in resistance but ironically reflecting the culture, they
putatively oppose themselves. That television, radio, magazines, pamphlets, virtual media such as the
Internet (Stahl, 1999) helps to create and prolong subculture. Instead, for postmodernists, this intense
codependence of subculture members of the media indicates how closely punks embody our present,
media obsessed moment. A structuralist neo Marxist account of punks was that they were enacting
genuine resistance and disaffection of society. But, as refigured by postmodern theorists as a form of
subcultural capital, an alternative hierarchy in which the axes of age, gender, sexuality and race are all
employed in order to keep the determinations of class, income and occupation at bay (Stahl, 1999).
Lewin and Williams (2009) ethnographic study of the punk community in the southeastern United
States agrees with the postmodernist claim that concerns about authenticity are critical to punk self
identification, and places punks into conflict with those very same post modernists. They position
authenticity in terms familiar from anomie

Military Bases Analysis
I believe the primary purpose of having military bases in different countries such as colombia or
afghanistan is so that the United States will be able to respond to events that could arise but would
take longer to respond to from the United States itself.I think they mainly focus on a more quick
response time but they do also contribute to peace and stability by being that close to a certain place. I
think the bases are less important in the modern day since we have missiles capable of traveling miles
and the ability to communicate around the world in an instant. I think the amount of bases should be
cut down but be more equipped with more people and be evenly spread out between countries to raise
potential response times to certain events. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conflict against North Korea may also rise although I don t think so since terrorism isn t a tactic they
could use being isolated and the United States would use Massive Retaliation if that would happen.
Army should always have the most budget since it s the most common form of conflict at least for
now. It was 1940 1970 I would oppose family to serve even though though that was the most needed
time of people but nowadays conflict is a lot lower than it was and I think it would be fine for
someone to serve. As far as military i would say that they do share my views but the political impact
on the military, I would say that they don t. It s beginning to get less patriotic to serve the Military just
because of the ending of the Cold War in 1990 and the decline of terrorism but that s not to say that
serving the United States does bring a certain pride for your country. Patriotism for me means that you
are willing to give up your time and custom to serve a country that you really believe in. unfortunately
patriotism is decreasing i feel like since events such as the 9/11 have been more and more forgotten.

Lill Lilly s Impact On Homeless Children
Lilly isn t like other soon to be teenagers are said to be. She doesn t like to spend time at school or

States. In this photo it shows that street life does not only effect adult lives, but it also shows that it
affects childrens lives as well. In the photo you can see an adolescent child with a rag doll in one hand
what looks like a cigarette in the other hand. As you see, Lilly is standing next to a wall that has the
word DOPE written on it. The image isn t something that you are going to proud of. As you view the

onto her childhood. You can see that she is having to be an adult, but would rather be a child like most
others her age.
Heroin, Meth, Marijuana, and other drugs have had such a big impact on lives in America. You can see
that there is even graffiti in the photograph that you see refers to drugs. Behind Lilly and her rag doll
you will see a sidewalk, but on that sidewalk you see a person going on with their everyday normal

Essay #1: The Daodejing
In The Daodejing, Laozi, similar to many prominent Chinese philosophers before and after his time,
discusses his unique perspective of the Way. There is much controversy, however, regarding whether
Laozi was the actual author of this text or was even a real person, and his work is thought to have been
a composite. (For the purpose of clarity, throughout this paper, the author(s) of The Daodejing will be
mentioned as Laozi.) Laozi s vision of the Way is exceptionally challenging to define using words
because of its metaphysical nature. Although this term is somewhat difficult to envision, it is what
mankind should aspire and take action to be aligned with. According to Laozi, in readings in Classical
Chinese Philosophy, the Way (or dao) is the source, sustenance, and ideal state of all things in the
world (Laozi 158). It can be best thought of as the underlying guiding force of all events that occur in
the universe, and mankind is closer to the Way when they realize that all things are interconnected and
have an effect on one another. As might be expected, this vague definition isn t a foolproof depiction
of the eighty one chapters in the Daodejing, but one is able to grasp a basic understanding of Laozi s
ineffable doctrine. Although numerous chapters are meaningful and could provide

When Peggy came to New York in 1941, she brought with her, not only her family but, all of her 170

How Is Malvolio A Foolish Character
Often foolishness can be defined as, the lack of good judgement and sense, which is associated with
jesters or clowns usually for comedic effect. In stark contrast, in Twelfth Night reader s find that those
in position of power with stereotypically serious roles are portrayed as foolish for comedic effect,
whereas the court fools, are portrayed as intelligent. This is largely representational throughout
Malvolio, as he is a character of somewhat high class, yet he still portrays the traits of a foolish man.
He can t see the obvious discrepancies between the letters request and Oliva reactions to his
behaviour. This being said one finds that, in Shakespeare s play Twelfth Night Malvolio can be seen as

George 02 Primarily, Malvolio is described as a very ignorant character who cannot take a joke, his
ignorance then leaves him as an easy target for other characters to insult him. In Twelfth Night, Sir
Toby, Sir Andrew, and Maria all plot a scheme that involves forging Olivia s handwriting in a letter,
making Malvolio believe that she is in love with him. His quick belief of Oliva s love towards him, is
due to his personality. Seeing as his personality essentially makes the prank work, with a change of his
character, said incident would cease to exist. Malvolio is a very serious character, who thinks of
himself more superior than others. This is evident when he says, Go, hang yourselves all! You are idle

Examples Of Madness In The Streetcar Named Desire
The streetcar Named Desire is a very complex and engaging book with 3 different themes, desire and
fate, death and madness. I chose to be Blanche DuBois in scene 8 and scene 10 as it sets the
theme, madness.Like the other major themes of the play desire and fate, and death madness too was
Tennessee Williams s obsession. His sister Rose s strange behaviour which had long been a source of
anxiety to her parents, later took the form of violent sexual fantasies and accusations against her
father. Not only did Tennessee Williams feel guilty for not having saved Rose from all this, but he now
feared for his own sanity because the mental illness that afflicted Rose might be hereditary. He

Her illusions, the very establishment of her life, are pulverised and this reflects the rot in her energy,

Terry Fox and Maurice Richard Canada s history is rich with leaders willing to bring change. Terry
Fox and Maurice Richard are two different notable Canadians who both had similar historical
significance and leadership abilities. This essay will be addressing their historical significance through
the quantity of lives they affected across the country and the durability of the impacts still evident
today, and their leadership ability of displaying determination by showing resilience in the face of
adversity. Terry Fox affected the lives of many across the country. For instance, Terry Fox helped
cancer patients by increasing their chances of survival with the money he raised from the Marathon of
Hope (terryfox.org). Terry also gave cancer patients courage, and inspired hope to see that cancer does
not kill their spirit (rw.runnersworld.com). Furthermore, Terry is an inspiration to cancer researchers,
scientists, clinicians, and countless students across the country. Cancer researcher Dr. Ling, who wears
a Terry Fox T shirt as his pajamas as a reminder of who he is and what he s done, told VICE Sports.
That is the impact that he had on myself (sports.vice.com). Evidently, Terry affected virtually every

experiments on the inheritance patterns of garden peas. Those results were heard, but probably not

Mendel s pioneering experimentation are the foundation for genetic counseling so important today to
families with health disorders having a genetic basis. It s also the framework for the modern research

Spain had most of the control of the recently founded land in America and controlled many ports

The Live Performance Of Dolly Parton s Just Because I m A...
Dolly represents the social inequality that was a main problem during this era.
The live performance of Dolly Parton s Just Because I m A Woman, shows artist sound, performance,
and clothing for the traditional era. The sound of her song started softly and the pitch increased as it
reached the chorus. Dolly Parton showed much more emotion and energy than Tammy Wynette
portrayed in her song. In addition, Dolly Parton dressed conservatively wearing a dressy church dress
as she performed. Parton, a traditional artist, represented the traditional era with her conservative
clothing; however, she went against the norm when she began questioning gender roles.
There is a shift from traditional to more modern country music. Modern artist Carrie Underwood
shows a significant shift from traditional to modern country music in her 2005 song, Before He
Cheats. Although there is not complete feminism inserted into her song, being a liberated woman is
feminist. For example, Underwood reaps the benefits of the sexual revolution and the feminist
movement without her music being feminist. This change in modern country music causes the lyric
content, sound, stage performance, and artist clothing to also change from the traditional artists. The
Before He Cheats lyrics below will show a change in the lyric content and sound:

Origins of Pilates and Joseph Pilates
The paper focuses on the origin of the Pilates method of exercise. It also takes a step by step journey
of Joseph Pilates (Joe) who was the founder of the Pilates method of exercise. Finally the paper will

Pilates refers to a system of physical fitness that was established in the early 20th century. It was

Pilates was not content with the political stand that Germany was nurturing and he left Germany
again. He moved to the United States and settled in the New York upon the commendations of some of
his athlete and colleagues.
He met a lady known as Clara while aboard a steamer on his way to New York. Clara was suffering
from the symptoms of arthritis. Joe offered to cure her soreness through his devices and informed her
of his dream of establishing a studio where he would carry out his work and develop his exercising
methods further. Joe and Clara fell in love and soon after reaching New York they tied the knot. While
in New York Joe continued to develop his methods of exercise and together with Clara, his wife, they
established the very first Pilates studio in New York during the 1920s.
For the following decades, Joe devoted himself to training other people in his methods routines,
developing exercises, and use of apparatus. He also expressed his concepts in writing. He often
considered himself as the ideal test for the rationality of his methods of exercise (Pilates, 2012).

Ana Arredondo The hippocampus is a miniature structure within the brain that plays a crucial role in

Virginia And Plymouth Colony Compare And Contrast
Virginia and Plymouth were one of the first colonies in the New World. They both had horrible
conditions to live with including food shortages, storms, Indian attacks, disease, and frigid winters.
Jamestown was the first permanent English colony in the Americas located in Virginia where colonists
first landed in 1607. Six hundred people were sent in a fleet of nine vessels on a long month long
journey to Virginia. There were many things going bad right from the beginning: two ships were lost
in disasters, many people died from illness, the winters were very cruel, and the natives cut them off
from any food available. After months of torture, they finally got enough resources to get Jamestown

The saints were Puritan Separists who did not agree with the Church of England and the strangers
were mostly people that were recruited to provide extra help to build the settlements and give it

landed in Cape Cod, Massachusetts and built Plymouth. During the trip, the saints wrote up the
Mayflower Compact; they were able to do this because they weren t near any of the Companies land.
The Mayflower Compact was an agreement that established a government for themselves; it gave
them enough organization to start the colony. It was based Half of the colonists were able to survive a
cruel winter thanks to the help of the natives. They gave them food, resources, and methods on
agriculture. This allowed them to have the first Thanksgiving, a festival where the natives and the
Pilgrims ate together after the first summer harvest. Unlike Jamestown colonists, Plymouth colonists
had a better relationship with the natives. Thirteen years later, smallpox (brought by the Europeans)
killed most of the Indian population near Plymouth. As the colony grew and established more towns, it
no longer made sense to bring every free man to elect officials. Instead, every town had to elect a
deputy for General Court . This was similar to today s United States representative government.
Plymouth was never able to get sustainable or reliable agriculture growing due to the sandy and
marshy soil, but they were able to make a substantial amount of profit from trade with fish and furs.
Plymouth was never able to become as profitable as Jamestown because the colonists never worried
about wealth; they just wanted to live better lives and worship in their own way. From 1620 to 1691,

Olivia Mclain Research Paper
Olivia Mclain, born and raised on Shetland also called Shetland Island, an Island that lies northeast of
the island of Great Britain and forms part of Scotland, United Kingdom, making it hard to tell the
specifics of where the girl was from. However, since Olivia was born after the proclaim union of
Scotland and the Uk there were no problems. Except for that Olivia was not normal according to the
land of the people, with that being said.
Robin Mclain, born in shetland, the father of Olivia and the lord of his property, which was all of
Shetland. His lovely wife Katelyn Rulf, born in England, both not in love with each other passionately
but was forced by their parents who believed it was destiny! Though it was for personal reasons, being
that Katelyn s parents wanted for her to marry someone rich and with power, while Robin s parents
felt sympathy for Katelyn and her poor. The Mclain families were all very rich while Robin s father
ruled Shetland willingly in the era of eighteen o five, age of forty nine; his rivalry continuous,
popularly by the assassins of Turkey.

Robin was pleased though still possessed to attack Turkey, reckless in the time being Robin didn t
seem to take anything into thought and marched on invading the Turkey and its people. The war was a
quick retreat from Robin returning home to Shetland unsuccessful on his attack, he returned back to
Shetland with a few men by his side and a born child and a dead wife. The maids informed to Robin
that his wife had died of the loss of blood while giving birth to his child. This effect caused Robin to
be disturbed by the child blaming the loss of his wife on the baby, and also his lost in battle. Sending
the unweaned infant to the nursery for the nannies to care for her. Robin later named the infant

Nativism Essay
Nativism
All so called Native Americans, were once immigrants. There were two waves of immigration
between the early 1800 s through the early 1900 s. The first wave of immigrants called the old
immigrants came to America between 1890 1897. They were primarily from Northern Europe: Great
Britain, Germany, and Scandinavia. The second wave of immigrants called the new immigrants came
to America from 1897 1924. The new immigrants primarily came from Southern and Eastern Europe
countries such as Poland, Russia, and Italy. Nativist parties, like the Know Nothings and the Order of
the Star Spangled Banner verbalized their distaste and disapproval of immigrants. Actions and
regulations against immigration did not begin until near the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The majority of the Anglo Saxon, Protestant population feared the incoming Catholicism and Judaism.
Many Irish immigrants were becoming active in urban politics, and being Roman Catholic, many
native Americans feared that the Church of Rome was gaining a foothold in American government.
With the constant flow of immigrants coming into the country, nativists during this time period began
coming up with strategies to stop these people from entering the country.
There were multiple regulations passes between 1880 and 1925 which regulated the number of
immigrants entering the country. In 1882, the Immigration Act only allowed for people of good stock
to enter the country. This act passed by Congress provided for the examination of immigrants and for
the exclusion from the U.S. of convicts, prostitutes, persons suffering from diseases, and persons
liable to become public charges. This act, along with the Chinese Exclusion Act, which disallowed
immigrants from China to enter the country, was responsible for a precipitous decline in immigration.
In 1885, The Alien Contract Labor Laws were created. They prohibited the immigration to the U.S. of
persons entering the country to work under contracts made before their arrival. In 1887 the American
Protective Association was created by Henry Bowers. It was a radical group that created conspiracy

What Is The Tone Of Richard Cory
In the poem Richard Cory, by Edwin Arlington Robinson, the speaker, who is a collective group of
impoverished townspeople, recounts the ironic tale of a sophisticated yet secretly unhappy gentleman
named Richard Cory. As they describe Richard Cory through simple yet dignified imagery supported
with repetitive diction, the townspeople learn that appearances can be deceiving when the wealthy
socialite commits suicide. While the speaker observes Richard Cory with a tone of admiration through
extensive detail, the tone shifts at the last line into a tone of irony that forces both the speaker and the
reader to assert their own perception of individuals in terms of reality. Throughout the poem, the
speaker, comprised of observing townspeople,

Courtroom Standards Analysis
Courtroom Standards Analysis Chris CJA/484 June 17, 2013 Courtroom Standards Analysis
Courtroom Personnel There are a number of individuals who make up the courtroom personnel. Each
individual whether it be the judge, bailiff, court reporter, courtroom clerk, prosecutor, defense counsel,
jury, defendant, or witness contribute to the shaping of legal law. The judge who presides over the trial
has the ultimate authority in the courtroom. The judge must see that the trail is conducted in an orderly
manner according to prescribed rules and laws covering the selection of the jury, the presentation of
evidence, the arguments of the lawyers, the instructions to the jury, and the rending of the verdict

All work group members influence and are influenced by the other members, and members have
different bases of power and areas of knowledge. Judges have formal authority and may direct actions
of the court and the attorneys. Prosecutors have superior case knowledge and have discretion about
what matters will go to trial. Defense attorneys are able to interview witnesses, obtain evidence
through discovery, and file pretrial motions. The four common goals of the members are doing justice;
maintaining group cohesion; disposing of the case load; and reducing uncertainty. Their different
bases of knowledge give group members various types of power and influence. Three interaction
techniques that are frequently utilized are unilateral decisions, adversarial proceedings, and
negotiations. (G. Larry Mays (n.d), para. 3) References Arizona Judicial Branch. (2013). Jury Service

Case Study Of Pharmaceutical Society Of Great Britain V...
Case note
Name
Institution
Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain v Boots cash chemist (Southern) Ltd was a Court of Appeal
decision on the nature of an offer. The court held that a display of an item in a store with a price tag is
not enough to constitute an offer. Such a display would be a mere invitation to treat.
Boots implemented a new method for customers to buy medicine. As opposed to earlier practices
where medicines were stored behind a counter and an assistant would get what the customer wanted,
the company allowed customers to pick drugs off the shelves and pay for them at the till. The
Pharmaceutical Society objected to this practice and contended that Boots was in breach of s 18(1) of
the Pharmacy and Poisons Act 1933. The Act required pharmacist to supervise the sale of some
products listed on the Acts schedule of poisons.
The Society s argument was that the display of products was an offer, which was accepted when the
customer selected and placed the products into the shopping basket. Because a pharmacist did not
supervise this process, Boots was in breach of the Act. Boots argument was that the sale was effected
at the till and was supervised in accordance with the Act. The lower court had found that the method
used by Boots was not in contravention of the Act. Pharmaceutical Society appealed the decision.
The question before the court was the stage of the purchase where the offer was accepted. The court
also inquired into whether a

Economic Impact On The Company
Economic Impact:
Often in cases of bid rigging the amount of money that the company loses is often significantly higher
than the if the contract had be awarded to other firms. Given the number and costs of the change
orders involved with this case, led to the final construction costs being almost $82,000 over the
average of all bids from other construction firms, resulting in TBB losing a great deal of money for the
quality of the work performed.
Of this $82,000, $62,893 was withdrawn by Larkin Construction in the form of cash. A reasonable
assumption with this money is that it was dispersed to parties involved in the bid rigging scheme.
Cash would be used (as opposed to ACH transfers) to conceal who benefitted from the bid rigging
scheme. These payouts ultimately are what increased the total construction costs, as the increased
costs are to cover kickbacks to those involved in the scheme.
Misstating Financial Statements Overstating
Revenue through accounts receivable
Perpetrators and Pressure:
There are some obvious inconsistences between what the accounts receivable being reported was and
what our audit team calculated. The perpetrators of this fraud was a combination between Phil Ackers
(President) and Julie Roper (Assistant to the President). During our interview, Phil stated that he
pushed Julie to sell more group tickets for the season. This was apparent that Julie did apparently sell
more group tickets; however, once our audit team started looking into the group

  • 2. Time Goes By So Fast Time goes by so fast. It s been almost a year since I moved in the US. What happened the first week since I landed here it s something I will always remember. Last December I came in Peabody because my sister lives here so I could spend a couple of days with her before moving to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where I was registered for the winter semester. I didn t know much about where I was going to live so my brother in law offered to come with me and help me to know the place better. We left Boston early in the morning and took place in our seats. After a couple of hours Terens, my brother in law started to feel dizzy and after that he told me that he was feeling abdominal pain. The appendix is a pouch the size of a finger part of the large intestine and placed in the lower right abdomen. It is not yet fully understood its operation, although some theories suggest that it plays a secondary role in the immune system, is the widespread view that it is totally unnecessary. The removal of the appendix does not seem to have any effect on a person s health. What causes appendicitis? Obstruction of the lumen (the inside of the Appendix) can cause appendicitis. The mucus produced recedes into the lumen causing the multiplication of bacteria normally found in the appendix. The consequence is that the appendix swells and becomes infected. Sources of obstruction can be: feces, parasites, abnormal growth of the lymphatic tissue (for example due to the Crohn s disease), foreign bodies or stones (grapes, cherries, peppers) tumors. An inflamed appendix probably burst if not removed. Bursting would spread the infection throughout the abdomen, causing peritonitis. To whom it may happen? All subjects can be appendicitis, but is most common in people between 10 and 30 years of age. What are the symptoms of appendicitis? Most people with appendicitis classic symptoms that any doctor can easily identify. The main symptom is abdominal pain, usually sudden, often inducing a person to wake up at night: you hear ... • 3. Essay on Sexually Transmitted Diseases Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD s), also known as venereal diseases (VD s), are spread by sexual contact where certain germs travel from one person to another or by the exchange of body fluids. There is a pithy range of frequent STD s, which include Syphilis, Chlamydia, Genital Herpes, Gonorrhea, and AIDS. Anyone who is sexually active can contract an STD and more than thirteen million people are contaminated every single year, three million of which are teenagers. In addition, there are common symptoms that are acquired by these STD s and transmission may vary for each kind. Fortunately enough, ways to prevent STD s are possible and there are treatments if an STD is contracted. General symptoms of STD s can be genital sores, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To many people s disclosure you can contract an STD fairly rapidly. This can be by unprotected anal, vaginal or oral sex. Intimate skin contact can also be a way to transmit a disease, for example genital to genital contact, even without penetration. This type of skin contact can contract diseases like Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Herpes, or Syphilis. On the other hand, AIDS, which can be transmitted by sexual contact, can also be contracted by contact to infected blood or sharing of contaminated needles for any kind of drug use. So how can you avert being infected, if STD s can be transmitted so easily? Most people agree that abstinence is the most effective way of preventing STD s. This would include not having sex at an early age, sex with an assortment of partners or sex with prostitutes. People that do decide to be sexually active can take diverse safety measures. One way of prevention can be the use of a condom or another kind of contraceptive against STD s. Others will simply decide to talk to their partner about other sexual partners they have had in the past who may have been infected, if they have had or been exposed to an STD, have symptoms of one, or are conscious that they currently are contracting an STD. On behalf of people that have not decided for abstinence or have not taken precautions to prevent an STD, this may result in contracting one. Well what can they do? First of all, it is best to be ... • 4. The Security Of Airport Security Screening In the last thirteen years there have been major changes made in airport security. What brought the changes and shook America to its core, is a day in history that no one will soon forget. Since 9/11, five attempted terrorist attacks on U.S. airliners and airports have made airport security a continued priority. Shortly after the 9/11 attacks, Congress passed the Aviation and Transportation Security Act, which created the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and put federal employees in charge of airport security screening (Bajoria). The process for airport security screenings lacked the ability to secure a plane which caused the terrorist to be able to board the plane with ease. There are those that argue that the increase in security has cost the country too much money and does more harm than good. The U.S. has spent more than a trillion dollars to increase the security in all the airports across the nation. According to Paul Borowsky and Gregory Delone, pilots were asked to complete surveys to what they believed needed to be changed. In his book, the pilot wrote that policies were designed to enhance security, however, he believed that they didn t take into consideration input from the pilots of the airliners that the policies were made to protect. There is also the argument that the increased security was an invasion of privacy. Passengers were having all their belongings placed on a table and gone through which allowed other passengers to see ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stop Child Abuse Now also known as SCAN, focuses on stopping/preventing child abuse in homes. This agency teams with many different agencies around Richmond to help parents and children coop and learn way to avoid situations of abuse. VCU threw a wellness block party that included many different health services but also gave members of the community to learn and seek help with many different organizations that were there promoting their business or organization. I sat with one other girl and passed out flyers and contact information to those who were interested in the organizations. I explained to individuals what the program was about and the benefits of the program. I had one particular interaction with this young mother who explained she was in a situation where children were being abused and the authorities were notified and now she s seeking counseling for her and the children involved. • 6. Group Minds, By Doris Lessing We, as humans, like to believe that we always stand out in a crowd and never conform to please society. We hold our freedom to be individuals higher than most of our other freedoms. Humans believe that we always use this individualism to speak our opinions. We think that we would never change our views to comply with a group. As much as we would like to believe this, it seems that more often than not, we tend to follow the crowd. In her article Group Minds , Doris Lessing was on the right track when she described how humans stand for choice and individualism, but when faced with the situation, most tend to fall in line with the majority. As humans, we are drawn to groups for numerous reasons. Society as a whole is very social. When you are a part of a group it allows you to be sociable. Additionally, we are drawn to these groups because we have a craving to feel wanted. Humans enjoy the feeling of being wanted. Another reason we are drawn together is we want to fit in. We desire to be accepted by others and fear judgement if we don t agree with everyone else. This then causes us to conform to the rest of society and act in a similar fashion. Humans wish to be accepted, and we try not to draw attention to ourselves because of this. Love, support, and affection is what we gain from these groups. Biopure Harvard Business Case To: Carl Rausch From: Sukhada Kulkarni RE: Release of Oxyglobin Date: October 30, 2013 The intent of this document is to provide suggestion for the timeline to release Oxyglobin. I would recommend releasing Oxyglobin to the market as soon as possible. Situation Analysis: There has been a debate if Oxyglobin release should be delayed by two years as it might jeopardize the sales of Hemopure. The concern here is that the estimated price of Oxyglobin ($150 per unit) might not allow Hemopure to be released at a higher estimated price as $600 per unit. As per my analysis this should not be a major concern as the advantages of releasing outweighs this concern. Here are the reasons why Oxyglobin should be released soon in the market: ... The Code of Health and Disability Support Services Consumers Rights 1996 outlines that all clients have a right to be respected in relation to their ethnicity, religious values, gender, and cultural differences. Eastmouth Essay Eastmouth The crowd is nearing the foot of the hill; they are close now and one by one they look at the wom an in the transparent mac and they nod (P.5 L.188 189) Alison Moore´s horror story Eastmouth (2014) shows that you do not have to include monsters and other supernatural beings to be scary. Instead, Alison Moore excels in creating an eerie mood filled with foreshadowing and small clues to let you know something is truly off in Eastmouth. As we follow the story in Sonia´s, the main char acter, point of view, we experience the slow build up and the gradual realization that she is not go ing home, as if we were there. • 12. Not Excusable, But Certainly Forgivable Essay Serena Williams 10 second tirade in the 2009 U.S. Open tennis tournament may have cost her the semi final match, but what is the lasting impression on her legacy (Ford 1)? Sometimes during a sporting event, athletes let their emotions get the best of them. Their attitude is like a ticking time bomb, waiting to be set off by a bad call from the line judge, a good shot by the opponent, or a simple mistake made by the player. Many people believe athletes should be able to control their emotions and always exhibit great sportsmanship. However, the media and most spectators have never been in the same high pressure situations as these athletes, and they should not judge without personal experience. She pledged that she would not allow herself to lose control again (Ford 1). Many will argue that Serena s raging personality and internal fire make her one of the best female tennis players of all time (Bondy 2). Long time tennis coach, Nick Bolletteri, called what Serena did not excusable, but certainly forgivable (2). Many analysts say that her reaction to the horrendous call was similar to the reaction of a man. Serena s poor sportsmanship is proof that women can act as irrationally as me, but should women be punished more harshly than men (Bondy 1)? The first of these was the Battle at Lexington and Concord which ultimately slowed the British down and keeping them inside Boston by Minute Men. Then Fort Ticonderoga was captured by Benedict Arnold, and the Green Mountain Boys. These two events were the start of the tensions between Great Britain and the Colonies. Later this tension became physical and appearing on the battle field. The Colonies decided they needed to talk about it, so the Second Continental Congress took place, it was here that it was decided that the Colonies would try and separate from their Mother Country, so the Continental Army was formed the Congress came to a conclusion All voted in favor and Washington became the new Commander in Chief (Yost, 2011, p. 2). The Continental Army s first mission was to fortify Breed s Hill and defend it from the British coming from Boston, which Breed s Hill and Bunker Hill overlooked. The British wanted these positions in order to completely fortify Boston and drive all the Patriots out of the area. On June 16, 1775, a day before the actual battle was fought, the Colonial Army decided to move from Bunker Hill to Breed s Hill. Merton Model Of Social Deviance Merton, (1938) model of social deviance desires to refute Freudians and similar theorists that hypothesize biological abnormalities as a valid explanation for deviance. Their theory further posits that institutions only exist to channel deviance through some form of utilitarian calculus or unreasoned conditioning (p. 680). That is, using punishment to deter deviance rather using it as a form of retribution. Merton, instead, wants to articulate how institutions can itself prompt deviance, and sustain a significant degree of control over it. I think the bases are less important in the modern day since we have missiles capable of traveling miles and the ability to communicate around the world in an instant. I think the amount of bases should be cut down but be more equipped with more people and be evenly spread out between countries to raise potential response times to certain events. ... Patriotism for me means that you are willing to give up your time and custom to serve a country that you really believe in. unfortunately patriotism is decreasing i feel like since events such as the 9/11 have been more and more forgotten. • 21. Classical Chinese Ethical And Political Theory Malcolm Johnson Prof. Michael Puett/TF: Peng Yin Ethical Reasoning 18: Classical Chinese Ethical and Political Theory October 17, 2016 Essay #1: The Daodejing In The Daodejing, Laozi, similar to many prominent Chinese philosophers before and after his time, discusses his unique perspective of the Way. There is much controversy, however, regarding whether Laozi was the actual author of this text or was even a real person, and his work is thought to have been a composite. (For the purpose of clarity, throughout this paper, the author(s) of The Daodejing will be mentioned as Laozi.) Laozi s vision of the Way is exceptionally challenging to define using words because of its metaphysical nature. Although this term is somewhat difficult to envision, it is what mankind should aspire and take action to be aligned with. According to Laozi, in readings in Classical Chinese Philosophy, the Way (or dao) is the source, sustenance, and ideal state of all things in the world (Laozi 158). It can be best thought of as the underlying guiding force of all events that occur in the universe, and mankind is closer to the Way when they realize that all things are interconnected and have an effect on one another. As might be expected, this vague definition isn t a foolproof depiction of the eighty one chapters in the Daodejing, but one is able to grasp a basic understanding of Laozi s ineffable doctrine. Although numerous chapters are meaningful and could provide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Plymouth was never able to get sustainable or reliable agriculture growing due to the sandy and marshy soil, but they were able to make a substantial amount of profit from trade with fish and furs. Plymouth was never able to become as profitable as Jamestown because the colonists never worried about wealth; they just wanted to live better lives and worship in their own way. The majority of the Anglo Saxon, Protestant population feared the incoming Catholicism and Judaism. Many Irish immigrants were becoming active in urban politics, and being Roman Catholic, many native Americans feared that the Church of Rome was gaining a foothold in American government. With the constant flow of immigrants coming into the country, nativists during this time period began coming up with strategies to stop these people from entering the country. There were multiple regulations passes between 1880 and 1925 which regulated the number of immigrants entering the country. In 1882, the Immigration Act only allowed for people of good stock to enter the country. This act passed by Congress provided for the examination of immigrants and for the exclusion from the U.S. of convicts, prostitutes, persons suffering from diseases, and persons liable to become public charges. This act, along with the Chinese Exclusion Act, which disallowed immigrants from China to enter the country, was responsible for a precipitous decline in immigration. In 1885, The Alien Contract Labor Laws were created. They prohibited the immigration to the U.S. of persons entering the country to work under contracts made before their arrival. • 41. What Is The Tone Of Richard Cory In the poem Richard Cory, by Edwin Arlington Robinson, the speaker, who is a collective group of impoverished townspeople, recounts the ironic tale of a sophisticated yet secretly unhappy gentleman named Richard Cory. As they describe Richard Cory through simple yet dignified imagery supported with repetitive diction, the townspeople learn that appearances can be deceiving when the wealthy socialite commits suicide. While the speaker observes Richard Cory with a tone of admiration through extensive detail, the tone shifts at the last line into a tone of irony that forces both the speaker and the reader to assert their own perception of individuals in terms of reality. Throughout the poem, the speaker, comprised of observing townspeople, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Case Study Of Pharmaceutical Society Of Great Britain V... Case note Name Institution Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain v Boots cash chemist (Southern) Ltd was a Court of Appeal decision on the nature of an offer. The court held that a display of an item in a store with a price tag is not enough to constitute an offer. Such a display would be a mere invitation to treat. Boots implemented a new method for customers to buy medicine. As opposed to earlier practices where medicines were stored behind a counter and an assistant would get what the customer wanted, the company allowed customers to pick drugs off the shelves and pay for them at the till. The Pharmaceutical Society objected to this practice and contended that Boots was in breach of s 18(1) of the Pharmacy and Poisons Act 1933. The Act required pharmacist to supervise the sale of some products listed on the Acts schedule of poisons. The Society s argument was that the display of products was an offer, which was accepted when the customer selected and placed the products into the shopping basket. Because a pharmacist did not supervise this process, Boots was in breach of the Act. Boots argument was that the sale was effected at the till and was supervised in accordance with the Act. The lower court had found that the method used by Boots was not in contravention of the Act. Pharmaceutical Society appealed the decision. The question before the court was the stage of the purchase where the offer was accepted. The court also inquired into whether a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Economic Impact On The Company Economic Impact: Often in cases of bid rigging the amount of money that the company loses is often significantly higher than the if the contract had be awarded to other firms. Given the number and costs of the change orders involved with this case, led to the final construction costs being almost $82,000 over the average of all bids from other construction firms, resulting in TBB losing a great deal of money for the quality of the work performed. Of this $82,000, $62,893 was withdrawn by Larkin Construction in the form of cash. A reasonable assumption with this money is that it was dispersed to parties involved in the bid rigging scheme. Cash would be used (as opposed to ACH transfers) to conceal who benefitted from the bid rigging scheme. These payouts ultimately are what increased the total construction costs, as the increased costs are to cover kickbacks to those involved in the scheme. Misstating Financial Statements Overstating Revenue through accounts receivable Perpetrators and Pressure: There are some obvious inconsistences between what the accounts receivable being reported was and what our audit team calculated. The perpetrators of this fraud was a combination between Phil Ackers (President) and Julie Roper (Assistant to the President). During our interview, Phil stated that he pushed Julie to sell more group tickets for the season. This was apparent that Julie did apparently sell more group tickets; however, once our audit team started looking into the group ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
