Analysis Of Langston Hughes s Poem, I, Too
What does it mean to be an American? This question can have different kinds of answers. However,
when many people ponder about America, they associate it with a place where citizens have tons of
freedom and equality. But sometimes, Americans do not get these freedoms and equality right off the
bat as other people in other countries expect. Being an American can come with a lot of perks, such as
the freedom to speak your thoughts, freedom to express yourself and several more; However, to obtain
these perks, freedoms, and rights, the people must be able to fight and defend their rights. Therefore,
along the many reasons of being an American, to be an American means to fight for and defend their
rights. Through the study of literature and history, the reader will learn that in certain circumstances,
people will realize that they will have to fight and defend their rights against those who tries to take it
away. In the poem, I, Too, Langston Hughes shows that to be an American means that you should
refuse to buckle under awful pressures. The speaker, an African American man, was denied the rights
to sit down at the dinner table when company comes. However, the speaker laugh and eat well and
[grew] strong then no one will dare say to him eat in the kitchen then. The African American man too,
am America. The speaker decided to take the time in the kitchen to grow and learn; so that next time
he can sit at the table because he is considered an American as the white people

Diversity In Children s Literature
I believe that books have one of the greatest influences on children when they are growing up. There
are many different genres of books and they all have something different to teach and offer to
children. For example, picture books and fictional stories spark imagination in children and teach
them creativity while, non fiction and stories incorporating diversity, teach children about a certain
topic and help broaden their horizons. Keeping the importance of all the different genres of books in
mind, I chose two articles from the Journal of Children s Literature pertaining to this subject. The
name of the first article I read is, Drawing Stories, Writing Pictures: Reading and Composing
Multimodally in Storying Studio, written by Prisca Martens. This article discusses the significance of
picturebooks and how the illustrations enhance the writing and make the stories come alive. Martens
also mentions a project that she is working on called, Storying Studio. According to Martens, Storying
Studio honors and values multiple ways of composing meaning, ... Show more content on

Koss. This article discussed the highlights of the 2015 Children s Literature Assembly, which focussed
mostly on the need and importance of books revolving around and about diversity. The article
mentioned that all children need to be able to see themselves represented in books. If a child can not
find a book that they relate to or feel represented in, it can have a negative impact on their self image.
When a child reads a book and can see themselves in a character, it shows the child that they are not
alone and that there are other people just like them. The article mentioned that diversity in books is
crucial because it teaches children about other people and their different situations. Books featuring
diversity also makes sure that children read out of their comfort

American Military During The War Era
William Heck
Dr Milam
Americans in the Desert
1991 was one of the most prominent moments in American military times of the post Cold War era,
though it was only a six week siege, it is comparable to the wars in Afghanistan, Korea, and Vietnam.
It s shortness in duration does not take away from the incredible magnitiude of absolute destruction
and size of the war itself. This is the Gulf War, and America was going to dominate. To this day people
wonder if the Bush Administration at the time had just cause to go to war with Iraq, who was under
Saddam Hussein at the time. Through this paper I will be justifying that America was probably not in
the right in starting this war, only going in for it s best interest. Many different ... Show more content

To give you perspective, World War II lasted three hundred and 10 weeks and that war was known for
aereal bomb droppings. In just two weeks of being in combat with Iraq, Coalition forces dropped more
explosives in two weeks than all of World War 2. We were giving Saddam and his troops a complete
display of shock and awe. At the peak of troop numbers we had 430,000 and every day American
forces were moving 6 million pounds of supplies daily. The bottom of the line is that the Coalition,
mainly America, was going to win this war via superior technology and man power. Before this war,
the Republican Guard was seen as the greatest military force in the Middle East and no one was going
to beat them. We see in the six week campaign that this was not to be the case, as casualty reports for
the Iraq side to be 20,000 all the way up to almost 35,000. Whereas US forces had 148 KIA
throughout the entirty of the seven month event including both operations.
America might have no lost many soldiers, but the amount of finances used during this war was
staggering. The US forces were paying $17.9 billion dollars for the war where as the rest of the
coalition forces of 35 other countries were a combined $43.1 billion. This does not include the
massive amount of subsidies that Saudi Arabia had given the allies, amounting to $43 billion by the
time it is all said and done. Kuwait, who had already been riddled by the burning of 640 of their oil
wells paid $22 billion

Role Of The Cultural Perspective When Dealing With Conflict
For any international organization, understanding cultural differences is very significant in the global
context. The article analyzes the role and impact of the cultural perspective when dealing with conflict
in the global context. What seems like a perfectly reasonable approach in one culture may seem
ridiculous, disrespectful, inefficient, or unfair to managers from other cultures. Japanese and German
managers may be uneasy with conflict resolution preferences that differ from their own. (Adams,
p.110.) The understanding that organizational and global cultures vary results in the connected
research supported in several businesses in diverse fields.
This research did not only use the preferences of superiors employed in multicultural environments,
when analyzing, but explored the role of each individual s culture in defining a possible resolution. If
managers insist on their cultural preferences as the way to resolve disagreements, more disagreements
will emerge because of misunderstood processes for resolving disagreements. The results of this study
suggest that effective conflict resolution may need to begin with the recognition of different cultural
preferences for resolution strategies. Only then can further attempts at resolution proceed effectively.
In other words, focus on the where before jumping into the how. (Adams, p.110)
Creating a workplace environment that enables employees to flourish includes the recognition that
cultural diversity is important.

Food Trucks For Lunch
In a recent survey 63% of students want better food and only 5.4% are satisfied with their lunch.Food
trucks need to serve students for lunch for multiple reasons.First, students will be more motivated to
come to school . Also, schools could make the world better. Lastly, it s better food for almost the same
price. Food trucks will change the way students will look at school. First, students will be happy to go
to lunch. In the article by Derek Sun say s The school could maintain a fair environment but having
the food truck prices be significantly higher than the food made by the cafeteria, $2 to $3 more. (1)
This shows that the food will be better for 2 to 3 dollars. Would you spend more money on more

Art Scandal
A few institutions which have stolen artwork want to redress their wrongdoings. Institutions and
individuals that have looted artwork should return everything they obtained illegally to their original
location. A few prestigious institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the
J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles have agreed to return looted or stolen artwork or antiquities
(Roehrenbeck). Despite their desire to return looted artwork, there are complex issues that make it
quite difficult. One of the issues consists of the debates about what approach should be taken
regarding the country s ownership of cultural property while another issue is how the process should
be approached when it requires cooperation among government, museums, and even artifact dealers
where holes exist in historical records. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2005, a former Getty antiquities curator Marion True was charged with conspiring to traffic in
looted treasures. (Puente) Since this is the first time that an American museum was charged with a

museums. The Getty got caught when attitudes and laws changed , says Bill Pearlstein, a lawyer from
New York who represents private collectors that do not want to see the end of the antiquities trade.
(Puente) Marion True claims she is not guilty and that she did not know that the members of the J.

The term ``case method has come to refer to a wide range of teaching styles and objectives that can be
adopted within the use of case studies for teaching (Dooley and Skinner, 1977). It has been proposed
that the case method can be used to: . gain illustration of particular points, issues or managerial
principles; . provide managers with a neutral situation in which they are free to explore problems
(because they are not their own); . relate theory to practice; . confront the complexities of specific
situations; . develop analysis and synthesis; . develop self analysis, attitudes, confidence,
responsibility; . develop interpersonal skills, communication and listening; and . develop judgement
and wisdom and enliven teaching. The method may gain the student s intellectual and emotional
involvement and assist the long term retention of understanding and bring realism into instructional
settings (Romm and Mahler, 1991; Osigweh, 1989; Smith, 1987; Christensen and Hansen, 1987;
Dooley and Skinner, 1977). The case method is not without its limitations. Cases may be limited in the
extent to which they present the realities of an organization. Yin (1989) comments that a case need not
reflect a complete or accurate rendition of actual events; its purpose is to establish a framework for
discussion among students. Similarly Towl (1969) describing case writing at Harvard Business School
emphasises the need for a

The Ideals And Goals Of Humanism During The Renaissance
The ideals and goals of humanism in the Renaissance period are apparent in different pieces of
literature. More importantly, the scholars acknowledge the contribution of Italy around the fourteenth
century to have flickered the developments that followed this period. The rebirth of knowledge that
began in Italy spread to the north with the greater renewal of the interests of classical antiquity, and
this is what is known in history as the Renaissance. The period was associated with greater discoveries
within the geographical and intellectual realms. The discoveries played a greater role in the western
civilization in different areas, including sciences, such as the contributions of Copernicus in the
cosmic view that it is the sun, and not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It activated the concept of an active life as opposed to the contemplated life. During the medieval
period, people were living in contemplation, but with the rebirth of knowledge, people were obligated
to take the active measure in making life worth living, while also taking care of other social beings.
The man in the renaissance perspective should promote the cultural life with positive and active
engagement with the public life. In doing so, human beings should seek and acquire significant
knowledge in different areas to make it great. The human person should check his or her moral,
military and political actions while undertaking the service to the state. While doing so, they should
take into consideration the individual achievements, personal aspiration and the breadth of knowledge.
In conclusion, it is inferential that the Renaissance period gave a greater measure of attention to
human growth with proper significance to human action. More importantly, the human person was to
take an active role in making everything worth it and not living in contemplation. In that dictum, the
emphasis was on human positive interaction to make sure that people live harmoniously not only with
one another but also for one another. Therefore, the ideals and goals of humanism in the renaissance
period sought to make the world a better place for the human

Darwinism And Darwinian Evolution
Evolution. The theory that has shaped people s minds. The theory of how life has changed over time.
Creation. Life by God. Life by superior being. The age old words of the Bible. The words that give
people a meaning to live, a purpose. Darwinian evolution. A scientific reason of life. The theory of
modern atheistic thinking. The theory that supposedly murdered God. People think the continents have
been torn apart, the human embryo resembles a fish, and people believe in creation and evolution.
Creationists and Darwinists have their own thoughts, but I have come to the conclusion that
Darwinian evolution is not a proven fact.
Darwinian evolution is not the same thing as evolution. Darwinian evolution is much more widely
known and much more specific. Darwinism says that humans descended from apes, which came from
reptiles, then fish, then from a single celled organism. Darwinism evolution occurs by small mutations
and very, very, slow genetic modification that takes millions and millions of years. Evolution has a
more broad statement. It says that organisms change based off of needs and requirements. For
example, giraffes have long necks, but regular evolution says that they originally had shorter ... Show

First, there are grooves in the embryo that look very similar to gills. These are actually just the
beginning stages of the face, neck, and throat. The tailbone is just an early version of the coccyx and

parts of the human body. The coccyx has been proven to help support muscles such as the pelvic
region. If these features were actual parts of fishes, why do they disappear when the body is fully
developed? Or why do we not see ape like features on the human embryo? People have thought of
some interesting things before, some of which are more than likely

Descriptive Essay About A Runaway Bird
The Runaway Bird
I stood there looking in through the bars on the cage, watching the birds fly around their cage. I rested
my hands on one of the metal bars on the cage as I watched my favorite bird, Sky , she was the bird I
got for my 12th birthday that year. Sky was a bird with blue feathers and white areas on its stomach
that looked like clouds. I loved to watch the birds play with each other. I was aloud to hold them but I
was not aloud to take them out of the cage without an adult around And my mom was taking a nap.
My mom has black curly hair and brown eyes. I stood there watching and listening to the birds tweet,
chirp, and play. I really wanted to hold one Sky to be exact. I can hold Sky for a few minutes and no
one will know, I thought to myself, I just have to be quiet and I can t tell anyone. So I quickly scanned
the room to make sure no one was there. As soon as I knew no one was there I walked up to the cage. I
put my hand on the cage lock and I looked up to find Sky so I could get her. I slowly unlocked the
cage and I quickly opened the door. As soon as I opened the door a bird flew out. I shut the door as
fast as I could and turned around panicking looking for the bird. I searched every where and once I
couldn t find it I panicked even more but just when I was about to get up I heard a sound. CHIRP
CHIRP. It was the bird sitting on top of the big, tall bookcase.
I looked up at it panicking because the bookcase was too tall for me to reach the bird. I

Essay about Elites And The Masses
Elites and the Masses
There are many theories pertaining to the nature of power in society. In modern society, it is important
to identify where and when power is exercised, who benefits and who suffers from it being exerted
upon them. In this tradition, it is useful to examine the managerialist perspective.
Managerialism focuses on organizations as the basis, or unit of analysis of society, to which all other
aspects of society are subordinate to. These organizations use their resources in an attempt to dominate
each other and society. Managerialism tells us that power is concentrated among a group of elites who
control organizations, and use them as an instrument to gain more power and expand their realm ...

The increased use of assembly lines in production is a prime example of depersonalization within
bureaucracy.
Weber identifies several different types of authority. One is traditional legitimacy, which states that
authority is bestowed upon someone based on traditional roles of authority, such as the pope or even
the parents of children. Charismatic authority tells us that some are granted legitimacy to have
authority over our lives by sheer charisma, such as Martin Luther King jr., Adolf Hitler and Gandhi.
The third type of authority is rational legal authority. This states that we grant legitimacy based upon
the office they serve. An example of this is the inherent authority of Jesse Ventura over the people of
Minnesota, simply because he holds the title of governor.
In the managerial perspective, the economy is seen as a process of three different factors:
industrialization, elite competition and bureaucratic rationalization.
Industrialization is characterized by the increased role of technology as an integral factor of
production. As industrialization and science further blend together, the economy becomes increasingly
large and complex, making bureaucratic organizations more and more of a necessary function to the
advancement of

Why Monetary Policy Transmission Affects Economy Wide...
The RBA conducts monetary policy either by a contractionary policy, raising interest rates to fight
high levels of inflation or an expansionary policy, reducing real interest rates to fight recession. The
inverse relationship between real interest rates and household consumption as presumed by Keynesian
model means, implementing either monetary policies will resolve in a transmission mechanism to
interest rates and affect several components of PAE. How the overnight cash rate is successfully
targeted and how this affects economy wide interest rates will be explained as well as a list underlying
forces will be provided illustrating why monetary policy transmission channel fail to work.
a) Keynesian model presumes an inverse relationship between real interest rate and household
consumption expenditure which partly justifies the monetary easing policy to fend off economic
weakness in recession periods. Please describe the transmission mechanism of interest rate through the
economy in general. Which components of PAE are affected by changes in interest rates and how? (20
marks)
The transmission mechanism of interest rates begins with the RBA either increasing, or decreasing the
overnight cash rate as (Kent 2015) mentions. This leads Financial markets to make changes to the
future path of cash rates and the structure of deposits and lending rates. These changes then transmit
their ways to aggregate demand, affecting several components of the PAE. (Diagram A) illustrates a

When I completed OGL 320: Foundations of Project Management, I understood the hard work the
project management had to endure to complete a project. They are the individuals who are

Betty Friedan Research Paper
Betty Friedan (1921 2006) was a feminist, a woman rights activist, and a writer. She accomplished
many things during her time, including co founded the National Organization for Women back in
1996. She wrote multiple books that inspired the female class to be more than the simple, generic
housewife or homemaker they were originally destined to be by others in society.
Betty Friedan lived as a housewife for 10 years, doing work for magazines freelance. During this time
she created a questionnaire, and it circulated around. The results agreed with Ms. Friedan s ideas and
opinions on gender roles and gender equality. And in the end, Betty Friedan was a huge stepping stone
for the enlightenment and education for gender roles and gender equality. She had two children and a
husband, whom she eventually divorced in 1969, and they also played a role in her inspiration and
influence for the writing of her books and best sellers.
Betty Friedan published multiple books, including but not limited to: The Second Stage (1982), The
Fountain of Age (1993), and The Feminist Mystique (1963). She writes to women, encouraging them
to find fulfillment as a female aside from traditional roles. Friedan also wrote Beyond Gender in 1997

Edgar Hoover Accomplishments
Have you ever heard someone discuss their opinion on whether people are born just plain evil, or if
they change over time? Chances are, you may have heard this famous quote by J. Edgar Hoover, . .
.children are not born criminals, nor pampered parasites. They are made that way by the environment
in which they live. [Source: AZ quotes] One person may state that Hoover was a bad man, while
others beg to differ, but he has done enough good to counteract the bad, such as becoming the director
of what we know now as the FBI, or the Federal Bureau of Investigation. A good place to start is
Hoover s bio. J. Edgar Hoover was born on January 1st, 1895 in Washington D.C., to Dickerson N.
Hoover and Annie Marie S. Hoover, who both worked for the U.S. Government. When he was
younger, he fixed his stuttering problem by learning to talk fast, which would benefit him in the long
run. He became the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, or the FBI, later on. However,
Hoover had extreme anti Communist and anti subversive views, and he d often use unconventional
tactics to monitor activity. J. Edgar Hoover s death was rumoured to mark the end of an era, since his
death coincided with the uproar created by the Watergate affair. Another thing to discuss is what he did
in the FBI. During, and even after WWII, the FBI became known for working against the Nazi and
Communist espionage. Eventually, Hoover s power moved the Congress in 1968 to enact legislation
requiring the senate to confirm future FBI directors. The Congress also limited the future FBI
directors tenure to ten years. After King s assassination, the FBI, under Hoover s directions, launched

Most obviously, Tarsila spotlights the black and brown skin tones of Carnaval em Madureira s figures

predisposed to assume that favela neighborhoods are frustrating places to live, with high
unemployment and brutal racial profiling of local residents by military police. However, Carnaval s
figures work together on daily activities with heads held high and not a frown in sight. As Fatima
Brecht claims, Tarsila has figures of humans...inhabit th[is] scene...[to] express...Afro Brazilian

Cancer In The Elderly Essay
4 Ways to Stave Off Colorectal Cancer in the Elderly
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common types of cancer affecting the elderly. Thankfully, there
are a number of actions seniors can take to prevent this disease. By maintaining a healthy lifestyle and
getting regular screening tests, seniors have a better chance of preventing colorectal or colon cancer.
1. Adhere to Dietary Guidelines
One of the best ways to prevent colorectal cancer is to follow a healthy diet. Elderly people at risk for
cancer should limit their intake of red meat and processed meats, which means less bacon, bologna,
hamburgers, or steak. This might be a tall order for some meat aficionados, but it s believed that
carcinogens may form when red meat is cooked at high temperatures. Red meat also contains iron,
which can damage DNA. For seniors who eat red meat daily, cutting back to several times a week is a
must.
After cutting down on red meat consumption, it s important to replace unhealthy foods with nutritious
alternatives. Beans are a good substitute for meat, and fruits and vegetables are an essential part of a
preventative diet. People who primarily eat plant based foods are less likely to develop colon cancer.
2. Regular Screenings
Seniors at risk for colorectal cancer should get regular screening tests. There are a number of ... Show

boosts overall digestive health, which reduces the risks of colorectal cancer. To get the benefits of
exercise, seniors should try to exercise for at least two hours every week. Seniors with limited
mobility can try gentle activities like chair

The Ancient Roman world, the various Germanic and Norse barbarians, and Christianity all played a
big role in the creation of the society, politics and ideas in the Middle Ages. You may have not known
but the beginning of the Middle Ages (5th to 15th century) is marked when the Western Roman
Empire is invaded (1000 B.C) by the Germanic barbarians who were from Northern Europe ( Middle
Ages ). The Germanic people specifically the Goths, Vandals, Saxons and Franks adapted most of the
Romans ideas and ways of living and combined it with their own creating a new medieval culture in
Western Rome. The Huns started to invade the territory north of the Black Sea which was where the
Germanic People had settled. ( Middle Ages ). This led to the invasion of Western Rome which then
led to the fall of the Western Empire who had lost almost all their power to be able to defend
themselves. During the Middle Ages Catholic churches specifically the Popes were the ones who ruled
much of the society as there was not one government that untied all the people in Western Rome
during the Middle Ages ( Christianity In The Middle Ages. ). The society was greatly influenced by
the Catholic Church at the beginning of the Middle ages due to its power over the people and the
government which allowed them to create rules that were from God . After the collapse of the Roman
Empire which occurred in the 5th century the only church that existed in

American Dream Equality
The outcome of the American Dream had first come well known when James Truslow Adams stated,
life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability

resulting in a part of the decision. His meaning was based around the thoughts on Life, Liberty, and
the Pursuit of Happiness that was first seen in the Declaration of Independence; which proclaims, all

s talk about why PC minecraft is better than xbox. The most biggest difference for xbox is that it
doesn t have the huge multiplayer option and Minecraft Realm option. In the PC version in
multiplayer you can join minecraft servers where you can play games like sg, skywars, Factions, and
much more games. Another cool thing about multiplayer is that you can get to know some good online
friends and in this server called Mineplex you can do /friend to friend people so if they re on at some
point, you can teleport to them and play with them. Minecraft realms is where you can do survival or
creative or do minigames, and much more cool stuff. What s even cooler if you get your own
minecraft realm you can invite as many people as you want and you can get to play with them. Xbox
multiplayer is up to 4 people and the more people you have, the shorter each of your screens is and the
more lag you get. But if you do online multiplayer on one of your xbox worlds you can only invite up
to 8 people. Xbox is awesome, but PC minecraft has way more options than

Essay about Influential Poets of the Beat Generation
The Beat Generation of poets was created by a group of poets in the 1950s that were part of a new
culture in literature. They chose to use their experiences in their writings which were widely criticized
as well as loved by many readers. Two of the most influential Beat Poets of that Generation of writers
were Allen Ginsberg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. The Beat Generation poetry was the first poets to
write about non conventional subjects as well as using different forms of expression in their works.
This generation of poets greatly influenced poets such as Anne Sexton, who wrote about personal
experiences as well. The Beat Generation s style of poetry have influenced many generations of poets
after them.

The Beat Generation is characterized as a group of poets after World War II, they are widely known
and recognized for their works because it is not only well documents but also because they inspired
many future generation of writers. The elements of the Beat Generation s poetry are drugs, sexuality,
religion centering on the Eastern World, rejection of materialism and freedom of expression. The
members of this movement were known as non conformists and were spontaneously creative in their
writings. Thomas Merrill states that the influence of drugs in the movement was:
The incessant search for reality within (through drugs, meditation and intense feeling) was a quest for
authenticity that reason, it was felt, deadened. It called for the reconnaissance at the extremes of
human experience, as far beyond the limits of reason as possible, thus placing uncommon stress upon
subjunctive moods. (Merrill, 2) Influences of the Beat Movement can be noted in the next phase of
American History: Hippie counter culture of the 1960s. The Beat Generation was an important
political catalyst for those minorities that had no voice. The beatniks of the movement were seen as a
threat by those Americans that lived in the typical suburbs of American who tried to raise their
children in morally upright ways (Silesky, 81). Two of the most influential people of the Beat
Generation were Ginsberg and Ferlinghetti. The East and West Coast

many qualities that come to mind that is a necessity: faithfulness, wisdom, a servant?s heart, a life
filled with prayer, a love for the word of God, a visionary, courage, boldness, and an inspiring

Somehow George found his way to Pembroke College, Oxford. Here he met John and Charles Wesley
who had a great impact on his life.
He worked to pay for his education by being a servitor, to the upper classmen. He learned early in his
life how to serve others. He was hard working and knew how to cater to and charm his customers. He
developed a reputation for diligence, friendliness and above all humility. (Liardon, p. 97) These are
great characteristics of a leader. God knows how to train us for spiritual duty using natural
circumstances.
As George struggled with his studies and the demands of work. He often had inner struggles
concerning the ministry. He felt called to preach while at the same time unworthy. The demands of
school and work did not leave him much time for Christian fellowship. He was often lonely and
thirsty for spiritual companions. He was slender, cross eyed and very handsome. He spent much time
in prayer and fasting and abstaining from worldly pleasures. He caught the attention of John and
Charles Wesley who soon made him a member of their ?Holy Club?, a group of pious ?Methodists?.
Charles Wesley would also lend him books such as, Life of God, in the Soul of Man, by Henry
Scougal. (Liardon, p. 97) It was from reading this book that George realized he needed more than
religion he needed new birth. ?Jesus Christ first revealed himself to me and gave

and another he was involved in , in 2009, he had a tv show with 8 episodes with his brother on HBO.
Now all of this is amazing and exactly and partly why he falls into the life less ordinary category. But
before all this he grew up mostly just like one of us. He grew up in a quiet Connecticut town and he

for years. He started filming his sons early childhood when he was 18 and that s where the passion for
filming started. By telling these little stories about his son Owen he felt like he had a voice. He
decided to leave and live in New York City in june of 2001, it was a dream he had while living in the
trailer park, not because he was going to New York to become a filmmaker but because New York was
the dream. In 2003 his ipod the very first ipod s battery died, obviously technology was different and

  • 2. Analysis Of Langston Hughes s Poem, I, Too What does it mean to be an American? This question can have different kinds of answers. However, when many people ponder about America, they associate it with a place where citizens have tons of freedom and equality. But sometimes, Americans do not get these freedoms and equality right off the bat as other people in other countries expect. Being an American can come with a lot of perks, such as the freedom to speak your thoughts, freedom to express yourself and several more; However, to obtain these perks, freedoms, and rights, the people must be able to fight and defend their rights. Therefore, along the many reasons of being an American, to be an American means to fight for and defend their rights. Through the study of literature and history, the reader will learn that in certain circumstances, people will realize that they will have to fight and defend their rights against those who tries to take it away. In the poem, I, Too, Langston Hughes shows that to be an American means that you should refuse to buckle under awful pressures. The speaker, an African American man, was denied the rights to sit down at the dinner table when company comes. However, the speaker laugh and eat well and [grew] strong then no one will dare say to him eat in the kitchen then. The African American man too, am America. The speaker decided to take the time in the kitchen to grow and learn; so that next time he can sit at the table because he is considered an American as the white people ... • 3. Diversity In Children s Literature I believe that books have one of the greatest influences on children when they are growing up. There are many different genres of books and they all have something different to teach and offer to children. For example, picture books and fictional stories spark imagination in children and teach them creativity while, non fiction and stories incorporating diversity, teach children about a certain topic and help broaden their horizons. Keeping the importance of all the different genres of books in mind, I chose two articles from the Journal of Children s Literature pertaining to this subject. The name of the first article I read is, Drawing Stories, Writing Pictures: Reading and Composing Multimodally in Storying Studio, written by Prisca Martens. This article discusses the significance of picturebooks and how the illustrations enhance the writing and make the stories come alive. Martens also mentions a project that she is working on called, Storying Studio. According to Martens, Storying Studio honors and values multiple ways of composing meaning, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Koss. This article discussed the highlights of the 2015 Children s Literature Assembly, which focussed mostly on the need and importance of books revolving around and about diversity. The article mentioned that all children need to be able to see themselves represented in books. If a child can not find a book that they relate to or feel represented in, it can have a negative impact on their self image. When a child reads a book and can see themselves in a character, it shows the child that they are not alone and that there are other people just like them. The article mentioned that diversity in books is crucial because it teaches children about other people and their different situations. Books featuring diversity also makes sure that children read out of their comfort ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. American Military During The War Era William Heck Dr Milam Americans in the Desert 1991 was one of the most prominent moments in American military times of the post Cold War era, though it was only a six week siege, it is comparable to the wars in Afghanistan, Korea, and Vietnam. It s shortness in duration does not take away from the incredible magnitiude of absolute destruction and size of the war itself. This is the Gulf War, and America was going to dominate. To this day people wonder if the Bush Administration at the time had just cause to go to war with Iraq, who was under Saddam Hussein at the time. Through this paper I will be justifying that America was probably not in the right in starting this war, only going in for it s best interest. Many different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To give you perspective, World War II lasted three hundred and 10 weeks and that war was known for aereal bomb droppings. In just two weeks of being in combat with Iraq, Coalition forces dropped more explosives in two weeks than all of World War 2. We were giving Saddam and his troops a complete display of shock and awe. At the peak of troop numbers we had 430,000 and every day American forces were moving 6 million pounds of supplies daily. The bottom of the line is that the Coalition, mainly America, was going to win this war via superior technology and man power. Before this war, the Republican Guard was seen as the greatest military force in the Middle East and no one was going to beat them. We see in the six week campaign that this was not to be the case, as casualty reports for the Iraq side to be 20,000 all the way up to almost 35,000. Whereas US forces had 148 KIA throughout the entirty of the seven month event including both operations. America might have no lost many soldiers, but the amount of finances used during this war was staggering. The US forces were paying $17.9 billion dollars for the war where as the rest of the coalition forces of 35 other countries were a combined $43.1 billion. This does not include the massive amount of subsidies that Saudi Arabia had given the allies, amounting to $43 billion by the time it is all said and done. Kuwait, who had already been riddled by the burning of 640 of their oil wells paid $22 billion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Role Of The Cultural Perspective When Dealing With Conflict For any international organization, understanding cultural differences is very significant in the global context. The article analyzes the role and impact of the cultural perspective when dealing with conflict in the global context. What seems like a perfectly reasonable approach in one culture may seem ridiculous, disrespectful, inefficient, or unfair to managers from other cultures. Japanese and German managers may be uneasy with conflict resolution preferences that differ from their own. (Adams, p.110.) The understanding that organizational and global cultures vary results in the connected research supported in several businesses in diverse fields. This research did not only use the preferences of superiors employed in multicultural environments, when analyzing, but explored the role of each individual s culture in defining a possible resolution. If managers insist on their cultural preferences as the way to resolve disagreements, more disagreements will emerge because of misunderstood processes for resolving disagreements. The results of this study suggest that effective conflict resolution may need to begin with the recognition of different cultural preferences for resolution strategies. Only then can further attempts at resolution proceed effectively. In other words, focus on the where before jumping into the how. (Adams, p.110) Creating a workplace environment that enables employees to flourish includes the recognition that cultural diversity is important. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Art Scandal A few institutions which have stolen artwork want to redress their wrongdoings. Institutions and individuals that have looted artwork should return everything they obtained illegally to their original location. A few prestigious institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles have agreed to return looted or stolen artwork or antiquities (Roehrenbeck). Despite their desire to return looted artwork, there are complex issues that make it quite difficult. One of the issues consists of the debates about what approach should be taken regarding the country s ownership of cultural property while another issue is how the process should be approached when it requires cooperation among government, museums, and even artifact dealers where holes exist in historical records. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2005, a former Getty antiquities curator Marion True was charged with conspiring to traffic in looted treasures. (Puente) Since this is the first time that an American museum was charged with a crime for buying art, it has raised questions and concerns that could possibly affect all the other museums. The Getty got caught when attitudes and laws changed , says Bill Pearlstein, a lawyer from New York who represents private collectors that do not want to see the end of the antiquities trade. (Puente) Marion True claims she is not guilty and that she did not know that the members of the J. Paul Getty museum bought looted artwork, however, after uncovering the fact that she obtained a personal loan from a Getty supplier to buy a villa, she resigned. Her actions were not acceptable ethically or legally (Puente). Art smugglers who obtain illegal treasures and sell them to museums with a false document of provenance will get ... The term ``case method has come to refer to a wide range of teaching styles and objectives that can be adopted within the use of case studies for teaching (Dooley and Skinner, 1977). It has been proposed that the case method can be used to: . gain illustration of particular points, issues or managerial principles; . provide managers with a neutral situation in which they are free to explore problems (because they are not their own); . relate theory to practice; . confront the complexities of specific situations; . develop analysis and synthesis; . develop self analysis, attitudes, confidence, responsibility; . develop interpersonal skills, communication and listening; and . develop judgement and wisdom and enliven teaching. The method may gain the student s intellectual and emotional involvement and assist the long term retention of understanding and bring realism into instructional settings (Romm and Mahler, 1991; Osigweh, 1989; Smith, 1987; Christensen and Hansen, 1987; Dooley and Skinner, 1977). The case method is not without its limitations. Cases may be limited in the extent to which they present the realities of an organization. Yin (1989) comments that a case need not reflect a complete or accurate rendition of actual events; its purpose is to establish a framework for discussion among students. • 9. The Ideals And Goals Of Humanism During The Renaissance The ideals and goals of humanism in the Renaissance period are apparent in different pieces of literature. More importantly, the scholars acknowledge the contribution of Italy around the fourteenth century to have flickered the developments that followed this period. The rebirth of knowledge that began in Italy spread to the north with the greater renewal of the interests of classical antiquity, and this is what is known in history as the Renaissance. The period was associated with greater discoveries within the geographical and intellectual realms. The discoveries played a greater role in the western civilization in different areas, including sciences, such as the contributions of Copernicus in the cosmic view that it is the sun, and not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It activated the concept of an active life as opposed to the contemplated life. During the medieval period, people were living in contemplation, but with the rebirth of knowledge, people were obligated to take the active measure in making life worth living, while also taking care of other social beings. The man in the renaissance perspective should promote the cultural life with positive and active engagement with the public life. In doing so, human beings should seek and acquire significant knowledge in different areas to make it great. The human person should check his or her moral, military and political actions while undertaking the service to the state. While doing so, they should take into consideration the individual achievements, personal aspiration and the breadth of knowledge. In conclusion, it is inferential that the Renaissance period gave a greater measure of attention to human growth with proper significance to human action. More importantly, the human person was to take an active role in making everything worth it and not living in contemplation. In that dictum, the emphasis was on human positive interaction to make sure that people live harmoniously not only with one another but also for one another. • 10. Darwinism And Darwinian Evolution Evolution. The theory that has shaped people s minds. The theory of how life has changed over time. Creation. Life by God. Life by superior being. The age old words of the Bible. The words that give people a meaning to live, a purpose. Darwinian evolution. A scientific reason of life. The theory of modern atheistic thinking. The theory that supposedly murdered God. People think the continents have been torn apart, the human embryo resembles a fish, and people believe in creation and evolution. Creationists and Darwinists have their own thoughts, but I have come to the conclusion that Darwinian evolution is not a proven fact. Darwinian evolution is not the same thing as evolution. Darwinian evolution is much more widely known and much more specific. Darwinism says that humans descended from apes, which came from reptiles, then fish, then from a single celled organism. Darwinism evolution occurs by small mutations and very, very, slow genetic modification that takes millions and millions of years. Evolution has a more broad statement. It says that organisms change based off of needs and requirements. For example, giraffes have long necks, but regular evolution says that they originally had shorter ... The coccyx has been proven to help support muscles such as the pelvic region. If these features were actual parts of fishes, why do they disappear when the body is fully developed? Or why do we not see ape like features on the human embryo? People have thought of some interesting things before, some of which are more than likely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Descriptive Essay About A Runaway Bird The Runaway Bird I stood there looking in through the bars on the cage, watching the birds fly around their cage. I rested my hands on one of the metal bars on the cage as I watched my favorite bird, Sky , she was the bird I got for my 12th birthday that year. Sky was a bird with blue feathers and white areas on its stomach that looked like clouds. I loved to watch the birds play with each other. I was aloud to hold them but I was not aloud to take them out of the cage without an adult around And my mom was taking a nap. My mom has black curly hair and brown eyes. I stood there watching and listening to the birds tweet, chirp, and play. I really wanted to hold one Sky to be exact. I can hold Sky for a few minutes and no one will know, I thought to myself, I just have to be quiet and I can t tell anyone. So I quickly scanned the room to make sure no one was there. As soon as I knew no one was there I walked up to the cage. I put my hand on the cage lock and I looked up to find Sky so I could get her. I slowly unlocked the cage and I quickly opened the door. As soon as I opened the door a bird flew out. I shut the door as fast as I could and turned around panicking looking for the bird. I searched every where and once I couldn t find it I panicked even more but just when I was about to get up I heard a sound. CHIRP CHIRP. It was the bird sitting on top of the big, tall bookcase. In modern society, it is important to identify where and when power is exercised, who benefits and who suffers from it being exerted upon them. In this tradition, it is useful to examine the managerialist perspective. Managerialism focuses on organizations as the basis, or unit of analysis of society, to which all other aspects of society are subordinate to. Weber identifies several different types of authority. One is traditional legitimacy, which states that authority is bestowed upon someone based on traditional roles of authority, such as the pope or even the parents of children. Charismatic authority tells us that some are granted legitimacy to have authority over our lives by sheer charisma, such as Martin Luther King jr., Adolf Hitler and Gandhi. The third type of authority is rational legal authority. This states that we grant legitimacy based upon the office they serve. An example of this is the inherent authority of Jesse Ventura over the people of Minnesota, simply because he holds the title of governor. In the managerial perspective, the economy is seen as a process of three different factors: industrialization, elite competition and bureaucratic rationalization. Industrialization is characterized by the increased role of technology as an integral factor of production. As industrialization and science further blend together, the economy becomes increasingly large and complex, making bureaucratic organizations more and more of a necessary function to the advancement of ... Chances are, you may have heard this famous quote by J. Edgar Hoover, . . .children are not born criminals, nor pampered parasites. They are made that way by the environment in which they live. [Source: AZ quotes] One person may state that Hoover was a bad man, while others beg to differ, but he has done enough good to counteract the bad, such as becoming the director of what we know now as the FBI, or the Federal Bureau of Investigation. A good place to start is Hoover s bio. J. Edgar Hoover was born on January 1st, 1895 in Washington D.C., to Dickerson N. Hoover and Annie Marie S. Hoover, who both worked for the U.S. Government. When he was younger, he fixed his stuttering problem by learning to talk fast, which would benefit him in the long run. He became the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, or the FBI, later on. However, Hoover had extreme anti Communist and anti subversive views, and he d often use unconventional tactics to monitor activity. J. Edgar Hoover s death was rumoured to mark the end of an era, since his death coincided with the uproar created by the Watergate affair. Another thing to discuss is what he did in the FBI. During, and even after WWII, the FBI became known for working against the Nazi and Communist espionage. Eventually, Hoover s power moved the Congress in 1968 to enact legislation requiring the senate to confirm future FBI directors. The Congress also limited the future FBI directors tenure to ten years. After King s assassination, the FBI, under Hoover s directions, launched a successful ...
