Violence exists as a key component in various literature. An example of such literature is Edgar
Allen Poe s The Cask of Amontillado. The short story Poe had written involved an intricate murder
scheme, where the victim would be lured into a corner of a labyrinth of catacombs, chained to the
wall, and then sealed off with a brick wall. While many would not consider this violenceby any
conventional means, it is still violence Poe had written into the story to contribute to the overall
meaning of the passage as a whole. Firstly, the eerie setting and macabre mood Poe establishes in
The Cask of Amontilladoshould be emphasized. As soon as Montresor and Fortunado both step into
the catacombs, the story becomes increasingly grim. For instance, Poe mentions the mass of
skeletons stored within the tunnels, and the nitre accumulating on the walls, hanging like moss.

One Friday, September 29, 2017, I visited the City Theatre (inside Hockeytown CafГ©) to watch
Evil Dead: The Musical written by George Reinblatt and presented by Olympia Entertainment
and Sweat Equity Studio. When I first arrived, I was greeted by the Usher who gave me a
program. In the Program, there is a bolded section with the name and title of those that made the
production possible. The director for this play was Jamie Warron, and the music director was
Timothy Martuch. In the second and third page of the program is a section called Who s Who ,
which serves the purpose giving a brief description of the crew involved and their titles. In class
we looked at some of the job duties for those involved in a play, and this can relate to that
description of each job and individual. Evil Dead is about four college students who go on a trip
for spring break to an abandoned cabin in the woods. There they find a book that helps them
release some sort of evil spirit. Each of them start to get attacked by this evil spirit and killing
one by one. In the performance that I witnessed, the story was told in a comedic way compared
to the Evil Dead film, which is more of a scarier and serious form of the story. To me, the play
seemed to have two themes, perseverance and good versus evil. Perseverance to survive from the
