Suspense in Jekyll and Hyde Essay
How suspense is built up in Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson Robert Louis
Stevenson was born on the 13th November 1850. He wrote Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in 1886,
with that 40,000 copies of the book were sold in the first six months. This was designed to mirror
the Victorian secret and based on good and evil. Stevenson later died in 1894 in Samoa. Stevenson
used the contemporary setting of Victorian London to write his gothic horror novel. The streets
with the gas lamps were the perfect setting following the true horrific stories of Jack the Ripper.
He refers to Mr Hyde well as he wanders the streets of London not knowing who he s going to meet.
The elements in gothic horror include irony, movement, time, senses, horrific... Show more content

More clues are revealed to everyone over the book for example, Dr Lanyon s letter tells people
some shocking facts about Dr Jekyll and that is when people start to suspect things. At the end
of the book, Dr Jekyll retells the whole story in a narrative style which explains everything about
Jekyll and Hyde and that Jekyll would kill himself after he wrote the letter. That is when the
book ends. This shows how suspense is built up. Stevenson sets the scene and creates the mood
in the book, from the very beginning; he does this by using the devices of gothic horror. He uses
zoom lens a lot in the third to last chapter. The last night ; it goes into heavy detail about the
Laboratory and the surroundings of it. The candle was set upon the nearest table creates a
picture in the readers mind about all the visual aids in the area. He describes it so well; you
could almost go into the Laboratory and navigate yourself around it with great ease. This shows
how suspense is built up. That evening refers to time phrases. I think is what makes the book so
well and so popular. This also makes the book flow so well, so the reader can understand the
book well enough to keep reading without getting lost. It also helps the reader visualise the time
of day it is, so that refers to zoom lens again. This shows how suspense is built up. At the very
beginning of the book Utterson is introduced as this sort of boring, quiet man cold,

The Central Ideas Of Treatment Approach
The Transpersonal theory has evolved over the past two decades, driving the desire to learn more
about the higher self. A person doesn t have to be sick in order to get better (Tuner, 2011, p.551,)
The history and development will be discussed within the essay. Central ideas of treatment
approach will be included. Strengths and weaknesses of the Transpersonal Theory within social
workwill be addressed in great detail. There will be an assessment of a case and the client within
the micro system. The major goals and expected outcomes within the micro system will be listed.
To help understand how practitioner work with clients the intervention techniques will be
addressed. To give a holistic view of the Transpersonal Theory the ethical issues implicit in the
approach will be stated. Finally, the application of professional self, and the use of the model with
the micro system.
History and Development The Transpersonal Theory help broaden the way of thinking for many
practitioners therefore creating the need to greater explore the higher self. It was in the late 19th
century the thrust of social work interventions shifted toward a psychosocial approach with an
emphasis on internal as well as environmental factors (Tuner, 2011, p.547). It was 1967, when a
small group gathered to create new psychology that would honor the whole spectrum of the human
experience, including various non ordinary states of consciousness. The group included, Abraham

Junk Food Vs Fast Food
For decades in the United States, big meat companies, fast food chains, and all types of media has
brainwashed Americans to believe that meat heavy diets are the healthy options for humans. Not
only have thousands studies proved this idea false, but they affect so many other factors such as
the environment, undocumented workers, and most importantly our health. In the last few years,
more and more people have shifted to a vegan or a plant based diet, and those who tell their stories
talk about how much of a positive impact it makes on their day to day life, and their overall health.

Becoming A Successful Retail Store Manager For A Large...
As a successful retail store manager for a large wireless company, I made a good living,
successfully developed leadership skills in my staff, often resulting in their promotion, achieved
exceptional record breaking results in every opportunity, and bringing out the best in the
employees that I led, while maintaining high ethical standards. My employees actively sought
my guidance for professional development, as well as personal life choices. Often, they relied on
me as a reliable, caring, resource for them to achieve personal and individual goals. Although my
professional success was well documented, I was no longer achieving the meaningful fulfillment I
once experienced in my career. The industry had taken a shift in focus that minimized the
opportunity to develop employees in favor of reducing costs by utilizing part time staff to increase
profitability. Ultimately, the direction was to eliminate, or at a minimum, substantially reduce, the
most fulfilling aspect of my position. Interestingly, the company leadership did me a favor in that
I felt compelled to identify what was lacking in my professional life leading me to act on filling
that void. In the end, the industry s shift prompted a life changing event for me, to pursue a career
in social services, providing me with the opportunity to assist the individual in a more in depth,
purposeful manner. As I progressed through my education, it became clear that I needed to gain
experience in the mental health

Since its inception, SharePoint has become a Swiss Army knife that covers a wide range of
information needs and has been deployed for many different functional requirements. Many
companies have customized it, whether in its look and feel, building custom integration with
external systems or developing new applications. Furthermore, companies have grown to depend
on third party independent software vendors (ISVs) to fill SharePoint s gaps or build vertical
applications onto SharePoint server. While such moves have typically delivered good business
benefits, they have made migrating from one generation to the next costly and complex. Industry
leaders estimate that close to 90% of SharePoint deployments are still deployed in the ... Show more

their work environments become more nimble, leading to stronger engagement; IT departments
will realize the benefits of having Microsoft manage this aspect of their technology portfolio,

Examples Of Planning A Vacation
How to Plane and Prepare for a Vacation
Have you ever thought about why do people go on a vacation? After the pressures of work and
study, which accompany the people in their lives, taking a vacation become necessary to get rid of
all the stress and relax. People have many reasons to go on a vacation such as: they want to take a
break of their daily routine, strength the relationship between family members, having an
adventure, and other reasons. Unfortunately, some of them struggle planning for a vacation,
especially when the family is big. The family members will find difficulty in searching for a
cheap air flight ticket, a residence with a good price that can fit the whole members of the family,
and a good spot to go for it. It is true that planning and preparing for a vacation is not easy, but it is
interesting. Planning for a vacation involves three distant steps. ... Show more content on

There are several categories under which business entities can be formed. Sole Proprietorship,
Partnership (General or Limited), Limited Liability Companies (LLC) and S or C Corporations are
the options entrepreneurs have to give legal form to their business. Each has distinctive
characteristics on their taxtreatment and legal procedures. The decision of what kind of entity form
affects the daily operations and investment opportunities for the business, hence the importance of
selecting the entity that can better serve the business model and the owners.

Limited Liability Companies are treated by default as a Partnership (flow through) for tax
purposes, however, because of the check the box regulation Section 7701, LLC owners can elect to
have their entity treated as a C Corporation for tax purposes and then opt for the S corporation tax
treatment which would allow them to be taxed as a flow through. Corporation are treated by
default as C corporations and are taxed based on corporations tax rates, the check the box
regulation allows the business owners to opt for the S corporation option and pay taxes as a flow
through corporation.
Based on the presented information about the different forms of organization, in my opinion a
Limited Liability Company is the best option for the presented case, considering the initial stages of
the business, the characteristics of the owners and the extent of the operations. The Limited
Liability Company will allow them flexibility on their arrangements under the flexible statute which
allows the members to alter those dissolution and transferability provisions by agreement . This
form of organization also limits the liability of the owners, since the company is considered a
separate legal entity, creditors won t have claims to their personal assets if the business default on
payment. Another important advantage of selecting this form of organization is that the owners

Staffing At Tanglewood s Work And Quality Of Staff
Staffing at Tanglewood [Design] is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it
works (Walker, 2003, para. 4). When Steve Jobs said this comment he was speaking about the first
iPod, but in actuality it rings true for any design, whether it is a product or a methodology.
Tanglewood is a retail store chain with an outdoors theme (Kammeyer Mueller, 2012). The
organizational structure in conjunction with recent growth is causing a disconnect between
Tanglewood s mission and quality of staff. Tanner Emerson and Thurston Wood (the owners) are
the founders of Tanglewood and are seeking the professional guidance of an external human
resources (HR) consultant to unify the organization s practices between regions (Kammeyer
Mueller, 2012). The HR consultant will use the staffing organizations model (Figure 1) to design a
plan for the organization. The staffing organizations model is an effective design when the content
works for the organization. Figure 1 (Heneman III, Judge, Kammeyer Mueller, 2012, p. 22)
Organization, Mission, Goals, and Objectives The owners built the Tanglewood industry from the
ground up, scraping together the funds using their charge cards and loans from family and friends

Implementing A Traditional 401 ( K ) Plan
Recommended Plan
We recommend that SmartKidz initiate a traditional 401(k) plan. A traditional 401(k) plan is a
defined contribution plan for for profit organizations. In this plan, employees are allowed to
contribute a percentage of their salary before taxes up to a maximum contribution, which is
$18,000 as of 2015 (IRS). In addition, employers may choose to add to each employee s 401(k)
plan through matching each individual contribution or providing a one time lump sum. Each
employee has a tax deferred account where he or she is able to choose where to allocate his or her
contributions. For example, mutual funds and target funds are common investment options.
Overall, a retirement plan, such as a traditional 401(k), is the key to a ... Show more content on

In addition, there is more portability for retirement savings; 401(k)s can be rolled over into IRAs if
employees change companies. This is a significant benefit for millennials who are expected to
remain with companies for 3 5 years before switching. Further, as for retirement plans similar to a
Roth or Safe Harbor, a traditional 401(k) is less expensive and easier to manage. However, these
types of plans can be added on later, if SmartKidz would desire.
Suggested Provisions
In a preliminary outline of the plan, we have several key suggestions. First, SmartKidz should
allow both full time and part time employees to contribute to a 401(k) plan. Although part time
employees may result in higher administrative costs as a result of the high turnover associated
with this category of workers, it is very important for these employees to be able to contribute to
retirement plans. All of SmartKidz part time employees are between the ages of 25 and 65; they
are not high school students trying to earn a paycheck. Your part time employees are part time for a
reason pregnancy, disability, and other household duties so to accomplish your goal of showing
respect and dignity, you should allow them to put money towards their future. In addition, allowing
every employee to contribute would reduce the possible tension between full time and part time
employees and increase the overall morale. Additionally, it could even reduce the turnover in part
time

Why Is Woolf Important In A Room Of One s Own
Woolf: A room of One s Own
Virginia Woolf s passage in A Room of One s Own does a nice job showing how word choice and
splashes of imagery can take an opinion from just a statement to something that can be visualized
and impactful to others. By using good word choice and imagery, Woolf was able to show the
emotional, physical, and mental toll others had on creative women.
Before the war, at a luncheon party like this, people would have said precisely the same things but
they would have would sounded different, because in those days they were accompanied by sort of
humming noise, not articulate, but musical, exciting, which changed the value of the words
themselves. (Woolf, 344). She is saying that before the war, dialect communication was a form of
poetry because it sounded like a rhythmic flow of words that strengthened the mind. This reveals
that people lived in romantic ideology and in an illusion where everything was simple and beautiful.
Therefore, the quote that I did mentioned is important because it illustrates the communication in
the delusional English culture and how communication evolved into a coarser for after the war.

The Objective Measurement Of Alpha Amylase
The objective measurement of alpha amylase activity is used every day to ensure the quality of
our staple foods. Alpha amylase is taken into account well before baking our foods and milling
the grains. We will be reviewing what alpha amylase is, how it is measured and what effects it has
in the industry all the way from the farm, to your fork. Alpha amylase is a protein enzyme present
in grains that have starch. It is also present in humans, most commonly in saliva (Murray). The
main purpose for alpha amylase is to break down, or hydrolase, polysaccharides, such as starch
(Murray). When alpha amylase breaks down starch and glycogen, they cause a chemical reaction
that creates the sugars maltose and glucose. Alpha amylose is also... Show more content on

The breakdown of starches into sugars gives the plant a food source to help it grow. In the 1970
s, Australian wheat farmers were suffering because their wheat crop was being bought at a
reduced rate due to high alpha amylase activity (Csiro). This was caused by LMA, or late
maturity alpha amylase. LMA is a genetic defect that causes high alpha amylase activity before
harvest (Csiro). This meant that the wheat could not be stored as long and had poor milling
qualities. As a result, in 1980, Australians recognized late maturity alpha amylase as a genetic
defect in their wheat, along with pre harvest sprouting, or PHS (Csiro). Late maturity alpha
amylase is caused only by genetics, where pre harvest sprouting can be caused by growing
conditions, such as heavy rainfall. Today in Australia, wheat breeders have to test through two
cycles of wheat before they pick what wheat lines they will breed and release to the farmers
(Csiro). Even though they screen their wheat for LMA and PHS, wheat can still be susceptible to
high alpha amylase activity, which will then become the millers responsibility. In the flour mill, if
incoming wheat has high alpha amylase activity the miller must blend the wheat with wheat that
has low alpha amylase activity, in order to create a blend with the proper amount of amylase
activity. If the incoming wheat has too high amylase activity, the wheat will be rejected and the
farmer will receive an even more income reductions. Millers

Classroom Management Is An Important Aspect Of Teaching
Classroom management is an important aspect in teaching and one that students should take some
responsibility for. I have taken the approach of showing respect to the students through introducing
rights and responsibilities into the classroom whilst at all times demonstrating a pile of good will
towards each student. Regular classroom meetings will be used to maintain behaviour and
relationships between teacher and students, but also between students as well. These meetings will
address any issues that students are having and look at their rights and responsibilities and whether
they are working or need to be changed. Lewis states that the aim of a management approach should
be to turn misbehaving students into obedient students and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is best to introduce something which they will be greater inclined to follow. Responsibility
attached to rights gives the teacher the opportunity to encourage students to understand the main
reason that they will stop or try to alter certain behaviours is because it interferes with the rights of
the other students in the classroom. The two major rights which should be protected by the teacher
are that students have the right to learn as much as possible and the second is that all students
have the right to feel physically and emotionally safe within the classroom. Students should be
involved in this discussion and identify what behaviours are appropriate or inappropriate if the
rights of their classmates are to be respected. If students are involved in making these decisions,
they are more likely to abide by them.
There are two types of responsibility which are attached to rights. The first being personal
responsibility which looks at the behaviours students should or shouldn t do if they are to behave
responsibly(DO YOU MENTION HOW YOU WILL DO THIS). The second is communal
responsibility where students encourage their classmates to do the right thing and discourage them
to do the wrong thing. (off lms The Developmental Management Approach to classroom behaviour).
When researching this topic there were many theorists who formed different views on classroom
management. Two in particular were Johnson and Whittington (1994) who performed a large study

Should Fund Programs Be Funded The Search For Extra...
Understanding the heavens has been a continual mystery to humans. Throughout human history,
individuals have been curious about life other than on planet Earth. The question that remains is if
humanity is alone in the universe. This question is very important because after all, the universe is
still expanding. In addition to the expansion of the universe, astronomers have discovered at least
six potential habitable worlds in our own solar system(CITE). It is natural to wonder if other
worlds might also have intelligent life and civilizations. Many claims have been made that we
have already been visited by aliens in UFOs, however, while plenty of evidence has been offered
for scientific examination so far none of it has been enough to convince us that the claims of
visitations are real (Bennett, 260). However, this doesn t mean that there is no intelligent life
beyond our home planet. Due to this, taxpayers should fund programs to begin the search for extra
terrestrial life in the universe. The reason why there should be programs that fund the search for
extra terrestrial life in the universe is because extra terrestrial life can help enhance our
understanding of the universe.
Where ever extra terrestrial beings are located in space they can enhance our understanding of the
universe. This is because we are the newcomers in the universe and extra terrestrial beings can
potentially be around since the time our universe was created, which was 14 billion years ago
(Bennett,1 ).

Should DLJdirect target the Get Rich Fast (day trader) segment? Why?
Since this segment traded more frequently than others, they value DLJdirect fast and reliable
service that the company could offer. DLJdirect could provide the services that GRF segment
sought which are low fees, transaction confidence and site performance. The company could
attempt to target this segment but they should not spend a huge amount of money for this customer
acquisition. Based on exhibit 10 in the document, it showed that the size of this market segment is
reducing as the years go by. When compared to high end customers, the company needs to assign a
higher discount rate to this segment because they swing the health of the stock market. Another
problem is that this segment consists of less affluent traders. Therefore, it is advisable for them not
to go into this market because the company could not build a long term profitability in this segment.

reason is because the company has been doing well in AA segment which is proven by the

Strengths And Disadvantages Of Contracting
INTRODUCTION
Background:
In considering which contracting method to use the employer will need to assess his own
particular institutional and technical strengths and weaknesses (including access to financing).
Each method of contracting affects in its own way the allocation of responsibility and the demands
on the employer for co ordination of the project. Through the proper allocation of responsibility
for the project to reflect these strengths and weaknesses, the employer can rationalise the price of
the contract against his exposure to project risks. The employer s first consideration will be to
identify the design source, i.e. the person who will develop the employer s requirements for the
project into a practicable design. This design ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Cask Of Amontillado Violence Essay
Violence exists as a key component in various literature. An example of such literature is Edgar
Allen Poe s The Cask of Amontillado. The short story Poe had written involved an intricate murder
scheme, where the victim would be lured into a corner of a labyrinth of catacombs, chained to the
wall, and then sealed off with a brick wall. While many would not consider this violenceby any
conventional means, it is still violence Poe had written into the story to contribute to the overall
meaning of the passage as a whole. Firstly, the eerie setting and macabre mood Poe establishes in
The Cask of Amontilladoshould be emphasized. As soon as Montresor and Fortunado both step into
the catacombs, the story becomes increasingly grim. For instance, Poe mentions the mass of
skeletons stored within the tunnels, and the nitre accumulating on the walls, hanging like moss.
The air becomes thinner, forcing the torches to become increasingly dim as the pair head deeper...

As mentioned previously, Montresor leading Fortunado into the end of the catacomb and
walling him in a small niche is an act of violence in itself, for obvious reasons. Violence is an
integral part of The Cask of Amontillado, as it contributes to the macabre mood in the story.
Violence also plays a pivotal role in the setting of the passage. The motto of Montresor s family
is Nemo me impune lacessit, meaning, No one provokes me with impunity. From this, Montresor
s motive for murder becomes clear: some time in the past, his family was attacked in some form,
upsetting him, and driving him into killing Fortunado to live up to his family s motto. Violence
is also portrayed literally in his family coat of arms, which displays a large human foot crushing a
serpent biting down on the heel in the midst of a blue field. In short, violence provides the
foundation for the story s plot, and plays a pivotal role in establishing the mood in the

Accuracy of Bayley Scores as Outcome Measures in Trials of...
Introduction
Long term follow up of high risk preterm infants has become increasingly important as the
proportion of infants surviving has increased steadily over the past several decades. It is well
known that these infants are at increased risk of cognitive impairment. (Class) With this increase in
at risk survivors, many clinical research questions arise that can only be answered by long term
follow up studies. (Vohr, Teune) Clinical trials that examine common perinatal therapies should also
include a long term follow up component in their research to examine later neurodevelopmental
outcomes in their cohorts. Although there is no prescribed protocol dictating which specific
neurodevelopmental tests are to be completed during follow up, the Bayley Scales of Infant and
Toddler Development and all its revisions, is the most widely used test to assess neurodevelopment
of very preterm infants in the first three years of life (Luttikhuizen) and is a common outcome
measure used in clinical research trials.
Standardized developmental assessments such as the Bayley that are used in a pediatric clinical trial
setting as primary outcome measures need to be reliably administered and scored. Trained test
administrators and scorers are generally careful that the tests they are administering are conducted
and scored correctly. However, given the range of numerical calculations and transcriptions required
in scoring the results of these tests, there is always a chance that errors

insane as he killed him that night of may 22nd 2003.
He did not know what he was doing as you can see when he say s, He loved the old man... , but it
was, ...it was his eye had a eye of a vulture. As you can see he said it for himself that he loved the
old man also saying in this quote, He had never wronged me. Never given me a insult. For his

cunningly, that no human eye not even his could have detected anything wrong. There was nothing

So now you know that the reason he was killed jerry. First because he didn t know what he was
doing like him laughing or killing him by cutting every limb off. The other reason is because he
wouldn t just kill the guy because he didn t like him it was because of the vulture eye and there

advert to discuss the importance of donation to schools for breakfast for young students. I
obtained it from www.magicbreakfast.com website. I am confident about the text that it would
be ideal for visual learners as it comprises with an image . I m teaching Entry 1 , and is a well
blend of diversity. Learners are from Bangladesh, Italy, Romania and Sudan. Learners have good
receptive skills and always welcome new ideas toward their learning. Their positive approach is
an asset towards my teaching, and I felt the advert would be appropriate. The advert gives the
message to donate for the good cause and is not culturally biased. The element of personalisation
from learners aspect would help them to engage in the readingeffectively, hence allowing a
productive session to occur.
The text is formal and has good vocabulary aspect. It would create a good discussion. I feel the
theme of the text would make it a good discussion for the productive activity.
At the same time I would assure learners will enjoy reading and would not be bored because my
main focus would be on the weaker ones, they should get the opportunity to read and give their

Jem Coming Of Age Essay
To Destroy a Camellia Bush
Wouldn t you have a feeling of repulsion for an old lady who is always talking down to you? To
Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee introduces the story of two siblings, Scout and Jem, growing
up in a racial society. Jem, Scout s sister, undergoes many coming of age experiences. One of the
coming of age experiences Jem has faced is when he has to do a favor for Mrs. Dubose, the old
lady Scout and Jem don t like and who is also a morphine addict. Jem s coming of age experience
is developed by Mrs. Dubose through Conflict, Irony, and Imagery. To start with, the first coming
of age experience Jem faces is Conflict. In chapter 11 of To Kill A Mockingbird

The Existence Of Animism In Japan
Every new year s day, I go to the Sakurai shrine, it is the sacred place to me. I don t have the
particular religion in myself. However, in Japan, we are naturally familiar with the concept of
animism, therefore though I don t have the concrete spiritual belief, I can accept the idea.
According to Kitano et al., In Japan, there is a traditional belief of the existence of spiritual life in
objects or natural phenomena called mi (the god) and tama (the spirit). From the prehistoric era, the
belief in the existence of sprit has been associated with Japanese mythological traditions related to
Shinto. The sun, the moon, mountains and trees each have their own spirits, or gods. Each god is
given a name, has characteristics, and is believed to have control over natural and human
phenomena. This thought has continued to be believed and influences the Japanese relationship

Advantages Of Commuting
Many people must or choose to commute to school on a weekly basis for a variety of reasons.
Before the school year begins, students must make the choice of whether or not they want to live
on campus or commute. Commuting does not necessarily have to do with going to school, but
commuting is commonly seen for going to school or work. I had to decide whether or not to
commute before my Fall semester started, and picking was a tough choice because I live quite far
from the college campus; however, I chose to commute for various reasons and it was the right
decision. People who commute far distances, usually complain about the annoyances that come
with commuting, and some of these people will choose to move closer even though they were
originally at driving distance; however, most people who commute chose to continue commuting
for as long as possible anyways. Dorming and living on campus is much more convenient, but
commuting to college, if possible, is much better since commuting is cheaper, anyone can do it,
family reasons, and of course much more comfortable. Commuting may be tough in the morning
since a commuter must wake up, and begin traveling early, but at the end of the year a commuter
would save much more money. Most people choose to commute because of money and Free
housing, food and laundry. Living at home means you save a lot of money, which can help you
down the line when you want to move out on your own (Callahan, Confessions of a College
Commuter.). Callahan

In 2007, was when the most current economic decline was introduced. Even when the U.S. is
weakening, ObamaCare will diminish the labor force size even more. It s odd that intelligent
people let welfare systems run as they do; state representatives should change these systems and
make better systems the encourage good parenting (Welfare, SSI Systems Are Being Abused by

and how it operates. There are a great deal of people who are on the welfare program. There are
so many people that have welfare, that it would be very difficult to give them all jobs. If people
could be responsible for their own children, welfare wouldn t even be needed. Welfare is hurting
society as well. People would rather have another baby than give up their welfare and go to work.

medical education for an EMT license, a student learns how to appropriately treat and care for a

However, actually being prepared to handle these kinds of dilemmas in real life scenarios is a

also creates their mindset to determine how one think about themselves or and different view point

It is not desirable to cultivate a respect for the law, so much as for the right. The only obligation
which I have a right to assume is to do at any time what I think right. It is truly enough said that a
corporation has no conscience; but a corporation of conscientious men is a corporation with a
conscience.(127) And in Self Reliance by Emerson: To believe your own thought, to believe
that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men, that is genius. (109) To develop
into an individual is to make every choice based upon your own personal belief, no matter what
society says, and to act upon your belief . Emerson thought that all great works were products of
individualism and self reliance, claiming that: In every work of genius we recognize our own
rejected thoughts: they come back to us with a certain alienated majesty. Great works of art have
no more affecting lesson for us than this. They teach us to abide by our spontaneous impression
with good humored inflexibility then most when the whole cry of voices is on the other side.
Else, to morrow a stranger will say with masterly good sense precisely what we have thought and
felt all the time, and we shall be forced to take with shame our own opinion from another. (109)
Emerson considered individuality as doing whatever he wanted and ignoring what the people think,
which we can find in his words: What I must do is all that concerns me, not

Simple Man
The Life of a Simple Man was written by Emile Guillaumin, a former peasant going through
many changes in the 19th century Europe. He wrote about a peasant boy living in France just
fifty years before him. The book itself is based on Guillaumin s own experience being a peasant
in France. At the time the book was written which was about 1900s, he felt that the French
peasants were not being recognized in the extent contemporary literature was being produced.
Around this time, the industrialization of Europe was accelerating; there were many changes that
were occurring, including the mixing of cities with factories and the agriculture industry in rural
areas. This change gave Guillaumin the ability to write about a milestone about the differences in
people and their lively hoods. A milestone which consisted in seeing the changes of people s lives
as new work arose and new opportunities for what was thought of a better life. Guillaumin writes
an excellent inside into understanding how the nineteenth century French peasants lived. Here,

The Mythology of Puritains
In modern American mythology, the Puritans were characterized, by many Americans, as being
nothing more than an extreme group of dour religious ascetics who abhorred anything that had to
do with humor or sex. This image is fallacious. Furthermore, the Puritans were nothing more than
another group of humans who defined their own world with their cultural norms, and values. To
better understand the Puritans we have to expunge any mythology surrounding these people, and
we have to study them on their own terms through their eyes if at all possible through the written
record.
The first major myth that must be deconstructed is that the Puritans were sexual prudes. Americans
believed that the Puritans considered marriage as nothing more than a necessary evil that was used
for only sexual reproduction. Moreover, many Americans believe that the Puritans tried to hide the
physical aspect of a relationship as much as possible. This stereotype is false. The Puritans held a
very different perspective about marriage and sex. John Cotton, a Puritan minister, stated Women
are creatures without which there is no comfortable living for man: it is true of them what is wont
to be said of Governments, That bad ones are better than none... for they are a necessary good. The
Puritans believed that marriage was a fundamental part of human life and that sexual intercourse
was a fundamental part of marriage. Another Minister stated that the use of the marriage bed is

George Washington is a towering historical figure who is considered the father of the United States.
James Thomas Flexner captures the man, not the myth, behind this legendary icon in one concise

altogether new version of Flexner s previous four volume biography of George Washington. This
smaller scale book is well written, and explores Washingtonas the human being behind the
legendary icon (New York Times Book Review) to bring the reader to a closer relation to a man
removed by time and history. Of time and history, GeorgeWashington had a great deal more of it
which Flexner had to cover. Washington was a major national figure for twenty four years from his
election as Commander in Chief to his death, and he was hardly twenty when his role in the French
and Indian War made him internationally known. The wide ranging subject of Washington must
have been difficult to fit into one encapsulated volume, but Flexner manages not only to do that but
also writes straightforward in thought with flowing ideas and logical conclusions. The first chapter,
of course, starts from George s Birth and tells of his childhood of growing admiration for the wilds
of the frontier and the British Army. A little later, the book moves forward to Washington s first
military blunder in inciting the French and Indian War which makes the name George Washington
internationally known. After this incident, Flexner

Evil Dead Reflection
One Friday, September 29, 2017, I visited the City Theatre (inside Hockeytown CafГ©) to watch
Evil Dead: The Musical written by George Reinblatt and presented by Olympia Entertainment
and Sweat Equity Studio. When I first arrived, I was greeted by the Usher who gave me a
program. In the Program, there is a bolded section with the name and title of those that made the
production possible. The director for this play was Jamie Warron, and the music director was
Timothy Martuch. In the second and third page of the program is a section called Who s Who ,
which serves the purpose giving a brief description of the crew involved and their titles. In class
we looked at some of the job duties for those involved in a play, and this can relate to that
description of each job and individual. Evil Dead is about four college students who go on a trip
for spring break to an abandoned cabin in the woods. There they find a book that helps them
release some sort of evil spirit. Each of them start to get attacked by this evil spirit and killing
one by one. In the performance that I witnessed, the story was told in a comedic way compared
to the Evil Dead film, which is more of a scarier and serious form of the story. To me, the play
seemed to have two themes, perseverance and good versus evil. Perseverance to survive from the
evil being who wanted to kill all of them. One of the characters cut his arm off in order to not
allow the evil spirit to take control over him. To me, the purpose of the

A Hindus ultimate goal in their lifetime is to reach moksha and be released from the suffering
caused by samsara. This aim of this spiritual quest brings positive motivation to the Hindu religion.
To achieve moksha, one must practice ways to reach self realization. The Munduka Upanishad first
elaborated on the concept of self realization (Eknath, 1987). This passage discusses the importance
of achieving self realization, when once can distinguish between lower or higher knowledge. Self

The caste system is made up of the four varnas: Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras
(Griffith, 1992). These different levels of social classes divide the Hindu population into groups
based on karma and duties. If one performs good deeds throughout their lifetime, then they will
be reincarnated into a higher class. The highest class is Brahmin, also known as the intellectual
class. Hindus in this class are represented as priests and provide knowledge to others about
Brahman (Burghart, 1978). A major duty of a Brahmin is to study the Vedas, which are sacred
Hindu scriptures. The second highest class is the Kshatriyas, known as the warrior class.
Kshatriyas defend the Brahmins by their courageous characteristics. The Vaishyas represent the
commerce class. Hindus in this class are mostly traders and farmers. Lastly, the lowest class is the
Shudras, known as the labor class. Shoemakers, washers, and sweepers are examples of duties
within this class. Shudras are not to study the Vedas or participate in Vedic rituals (Burghart,

Engineering Skills Gap At The Manufacturing Sector
Abstract
This report looks into what the future may look like for the manufacturing sector as well as
engineering in Wales. The future looks potentially very good, with many predictions of growth in
the manufacturing sector, with a possible ВЈ27 billion more each year from 2022, for the UK in
general, drawing more companies in and creating many more jobs in the process. However, the
main obstacle is an engineering skills gap, with many more engineers required to fill the vacancies
and replace the aging workforce, than Wales is currently producing. There are a number of
programs to try and increase the number of children studying STEM subjects and funding to create
more engineering apprenticeships. While the 2022 target is within reach a lot more work is needed
to produce the required number of engineers to make the growth possible.
Introduction
The manufacturing industry is comprised of businesses that manufacture and process products from
raw materials or commodities. It includes a vast range of sectors such as food, chemicals,
automotive, computer equipment and electronics. In most developed countries manufacturing takes
up a significant part of the economy.
This report will look at the current situation of the manufacturing sector as well as engineering in
Wales, and look into what the future may be like, as well as what is being done to achieve it.
Manufacturing and Engineering Today
Wales has always relied very heavily on the manufacturing sector,

Introduction
In this case, R. V Kiranjit Ahluwalia1, the appellant is kiranjit Ahluwalia and the respondent is
Regina (the Crown). The Legal issue in the case was whether the use of provocation as a defense
could stand as she had sufficient time to consider her action and also if it could stand as a defence
to person who has suffered domestic abuse with resulted in a battered woman s syndrome.
The Crown court convicted her of Murder and rejected the defence of provocation. The court of
appeal overturned the conviction and ordered a retrial.

The counsel for the appellant goes further to say that based on expert evidence, women with a long
history of violent treatment may react to provocation with what he calls a slow burn reaction rather
than an instantaneous loss of self control.10
The Judge held that the phrase sudden and temporary loss of control summarizes the main idea of
the defence of provocation, and that its main purpose as a defence is strictly concerned with the
actions of an individual who as not that that moment master of his own mind. However, the longer
the interval of time between the provocation and the fatal act the stronger the evidence on
deliberation.11
The appellant s second submission concerned the way the judge in the first instance referenced
sudden and temporary loss of self control to the jury in the direction. The appellant submitted that
this direction was incorrect. He also proposed that the learned Judge s direction regarding the
appellant s characteristics in an attempt to use the model set by Lord Diplock in DPP v Camplin.
The counsel for the appellant criticized the learned judges direction on two grounds: Firstly, that the
Judge did not mention that the appellant was suffering from a condition known as the battered
woman s syndrome which so affected her personality that it put her in a state of learnt helplessness.
Secondly, that the list of characteristics should have been left open so that the jury may pick up on
the fact that she suffered from a

a. (1)Why is T bill s return independent of the state of the economy? Do T bill s promise a
completely risk free return? Explain
(2)Why are High Tech s returns expected to move with the economy, whereas, Collections are
expected to move counter to the economy?
1. The 5.5% T bill return does not depend on the state of the economy because the Treasury must
redeem the bills at par regardless of the state of the economy; therefore, T bills are risk free in the
default risk sense because the 5.5% return will be realized in all possible economic states.
Consequently, this return is composed of the real risk free rate, (i.e. 3%, plus an inflation premium,
say 2.5%). As the economy is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Calculate the missing CVs and fill in the blanks on the row for CV in the table. Does the CV
produce the same risk rankings as the standard deviation? Explain
The coefficient of variation (CV) is a standardized measure of dispersion about the expected value;
it shows the amount of risk per unit of return. CV= /. CVT bills= 0.0%/5.5% = 0.0. CVHigh Tech=
20.0%/12.4% = 1.6. CVCollections= 13.2%/1.0% = 13.2. CVU.S. Rubber= 18.8%/9.8% = 1.9.
CVM= 15.2%/10.5% = 1.4.
When we measure risk per unit of return, Collections, with its low expected return, becomes the
most risky stock. The CV is a better measure of an asset s stand alone risk than because CV
considers both the expected value and the dispersion of a distribution a security with a low
expected return and a low standard deviation could have a higher chance of a loss than one with a
high but a high .
e. Suppose you created a two stock portfolio by investing $50,000 in High Tech and $50,000 in
Collections. (1) Calculate the expected return (rp), the standard deviation (p), and the coefficient
of variation (CVp) for this portfolio and fill in the appropriate blanks in the table. (2) How does
the riskiness of this two stock portfolio compare with the riskiness of the individual stocks if they

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Given the recent closures of Future Shop stores across Canada, there is significant uncertainty
facing customers, employees, suppliers, and landlords. Customers will have concerns regarding gift
cards, product returns, and warranties. The challenges of dealing with employees include
addressing termination packages, retaining the best personnel, and transitioning Future Shop
employees from a commissioned pay plan to a salaried structure. Suppliers concerns will stem
from goods transported to Future Shop on trade credit, and the loss of future business. Landlords
will be concerned with the status of their lease agreements with Future Shop. Also, the decision on
whether to amalgamate or wind down Future Shop operations will be of utmost importance. Our
team has done extensive research into the failures of Target, and is best suited to help Best Buy
navigate through this delicate transition period. This report analyzes the concerns that Best Buy
will face, and addresses them from a behavioural and legal perspective. In order to maximize the
benefits and limit the risk, our analysis indicates that Best Buy should wind down Future Shop
operations and maintain it as an inactive company.

Summary Of The Trouble With Wilderness By William Cronon
In his essay, The Trouble with Wilderness, William Cronon discusses the importance of preserving
wilderness. Nature has been deteriorating since the introduction of the human species, and Cronon
attributes this issue to the destructive nature of humans. The essay begins with his thesis the time
has come to rethink wilderness(Cronon 1). He challenges the reader to find the difference between
wilderness and wildness. Cronon s biggest fear is violating the holiness of nature.
Humanity s culture is based off the desire to have a unity with wilderness. Cronon states to the
extent that we live in an urban industrial civilization but at the same time pretend to ourselves that
our real home is in the wilderness, to just that extent we give ourselves

Viva Villefort Quotes
Has a bad decision ever caused you to lose something, or lack something that you wanted? Two
texts, one being a book titled The Count of Monte Cristo, and the other being a song named
Viva la Vida, share this as one of their common themes. The Count of Monte Cristo is a book
written in historical fiction. This book features a main character named Edmund Dantes, who has
a nice life with his fiancee and a well paying job, before being placed in jail with complete
innocence after being tried unfairly. The man who tried him is named Villefort. His decision at
the time was purely out of personal benefit, after the note that Edmund had was going to be
delivered to Villefort s father and ruin his whole life. After escaping prison years and years later,...

In the song Viva la Vida the writer wrote, I used to rule the world, Seas would rise when I gave
the word, Now in the morning I sleep alone, Sweep the streets I used to own, (Cold Play, Lines 1
4) This quote of the song reaveals how King Louis XVI had extreme arrogance of his kingdom,
leading to his constant pride, and revealing how his decisions caused downfall. It also conveys how
he didn t think about the well being of his kingdom, which then caused them to revolt after he made
too many incompetent choices. The book The Count of Monte Cristo also provides imagery when
the author writes, He s carrying away the body of my son! He tried to run after Monte Cristo,
but, as in a nightmare, he felt his feet rooted to the floor. (Dumas, 485) This authors quote
provides the imagery of something you love being carried away as if in a nightmare. The quote
put into the story is what the readers need in order to understand how he was ripped of his perfect
life, just like Edmund was years ago. Both of these quotes show how these authors used loss of
everything due to decisions as a thematic

Excel Sheet Analysis
Through the use of the excel sheet we were able to see the relationship that temperature has on
pressure. As a result, we were able to come to the conclusion that the New England Patriots in fact
cheated during their 2015 AFC Championship game. We were able to determine that when the
temperature decreases the pressure of the ball naturally decreases. According to physics the ideal gas
law states that as temperature is reduced, the pressure will also be reduced.
Our excel sheet began when the balls were first inflated during the Patriots 2015 AFC
Championships. The balls started off in the locker room during that was at a temperature of 70
В°F. However, as the game progressed the temperature dropped. As a result, the final temperature

Virginia And Massachusetts Compare And Contrast
During the early 1600s many new colonies were building up strong economies that produced
materials worthy of trade. These colonies were also experimenting with more freedoms and
democratic systems away from the watchful crown of England. Two colonies, Virginia and
Massachusetts, were both able to be self sustaining colonies despite the vast differences between the
two. Virginia s strong economic independence and Massachusettsstrong political freedoms and
independence allowed the regions to establish themselves separate from England.
One of the original intentions of the colonies was to tap into some of the wealth and gold the
spanish were finding in south america. However, when no gold was found in Virginia the colonies

Massachusetts was established by puritans in order for them to be free from the Anglican church
of England. Massachusetts political system was largely swayed by the puritan church and many
laws enforced biblical rule. The colony was governed by a representative body that required the
representatives, as well as any other legal men, to be within strong standing in the puritan church
before they were permitted to hold any political office. This government allowed the colony and
her people to govern themselves creating a trial ground for democracy. However, the incredibly
strict beliefs of the puritans developed an intolerance of people of other faiths, such as the quakers,
anglicans and catholics, and thus caused a lack of diversity of ideas in the colony. Virginia s
government, on the other hand, was not governed as a bible commonwealth like in massachusetts,
this allowed for more diversity in the colony. In Virginia status was determined by land ownership
instead of standing in the church. This created a class system which excluded many of the freed
indentured servants from any involvement in the government. This eventually caused Bacon s
rebellion which despite its scale caused little immediate change in the Virginia government,
however it did make the government more aware of the freed frontiersmen who were previously
ignored. This eventually gave them more sway in the colonial government which allowed for the
eventual formation of a democratic

Political Science Essay. Term 2. Considering The Experience
Political science essay. Term 2
Considering the experience of one country with compulsory voting, and one in which voting is
voluntary, does compulsory voting tend to enhance the quality of democracy?
Compulsory voting can be defined as the legal obligation to attend the polls at election time
According to a dictionary definition, democratic state is one where supreme power is vested in the
people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system. There
are different democratic countries such as Canada, United States of America, Belgium, Australia
and they all have different electoral processes. Some countries practice either compulsory voting or
voluntary A total of 29 countries in contemporary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to make sure everyone is exercising this right to vote, some countries have enforced laws
that prevent people from disregarding this civil duty. As an individual liberty consists in exemption
from legal control, so political liberty consists in participation in legal control. Compulsory voting
is in the interest of everyone in the country, through voting we are given a voice to decide which
people amongst us we would rather have serving and protecting us.
The initial expectation is that a substantial gap exists between the voting rates of the socially
advantaged because the latter are less informed about politics, feel more alienated from the political
system and are not the main target of mobilization efforts by political parties One of the problems
with countries with voluntary voting is that participation is low participation which can also be
called low electoral turnout. one of the problems most democratic states with voluntary voting have,
is the turnout of electoral processes. Everyone has the right to vote but people on the day of
election stay home and turnouts end up low. These states end up having less than 60% turnout.
However in states with Compulsory voting such as Australia, election turnouts have been high. the
average level of turnout under the system of compulsory voting was 91.6% If the turnouts for
elections enhances democracy why do other states

Organic Architecture Through Functionalism and Minimalism

He wrote Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in 1886, with that 40,000 copies of the book were sold in the first six months. This was designed to mirror the Victorian secret and based on good and evil. Stevenson later died in 1894 in Samoa. Stevenson used the contemporary setting of Victorian London to write his gothic horror novel. The streets with the gas lamps were the perfect setting following the true horrific stories of Jack the Ripper. He refers to Mr Hyde well as he wanders the streets of London not knowing who he s going to meet. The elements in gothic horror include irony, movement, time, senses, horrific... More clues are revealed to everyone over the book for example, Dr Lanyon s letter tells people some shocking facts about Dr Jekyll and that is when people start to suspect things. At the end of the book, Dr Jekyll retells the whole story in a narrative style which explains everything about Jekyll and Hyde and that Jekyll would kill himself after he wrote the letter. That is when the book ends. This shows how suspense is built up. Stevenson sets the scene and creates the mood in the book, from the very beginning; he does this by using the devices of gothic horror. He uses zoom lens a lot in the third to last chapter. The last night ; it goes into heavy detail about the Laboratory and the surroundings of it. The candle was set upon the nearest table creates a picture in the readers mind about all the visual aids in the area. He describes it so well; you could almost go into the Laboratory and navigate yourself around it with great ease. This shows how suspense is built up. That evening refers to time phrases. I think is what makes the book so well and so popular. This also makes the book flow so well, so the reader can understand the book well enough to keep reading without getting lost. It also helps the reader visualise the time of day it is, so that refers to zoom lens again. This shows how suspense is built up. At the very beginning of the book Utterson is introduced as this sort of boring, quiet man cold, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a successful retail store manager for a large wireless company, I made a good living, successfully developed leadership skills in my staff, often resulting in their promotion, achieved exceptional record breaking results in every opportunity, and bringing out the best in the employees that I led, while maintaining high ethical standards. My employees actively sought my guidance for professional development, as well as personal life choices. Often, they relied on me as a reliable, caring, resource for them to achieve personal and individual goals. Although my professional success was well documented, I was no longer achieving the meaningful fulfillment I once experienced in my career. The industry had taken a shift in focus that minimized the opportunity to develop employees in favor of reducing costs by utilizing part time staff to increase profitability. Ultimately, the direction was to eliminate, or at a minimum, substantially reduce, the most fulfilling aspect of my position. Interestingly, the company leadership did me a favor in that I felt compelled to identify what was lacking in my professional life leading me to act on filling that void. In the end, the industry s shift prompted a life changing event for me, to pursue a career in social services, providing me with the opportunity to assist the individual in a more in depth, purposeful manner. • 12. Implementing A Traditional 401 ( K ) Plan Recommended Plan We recommend that SmartKidz initiate a traditional 401(k) plan. A traditional 401(k) plan is a defined contribution plan for for profit organizations. In this plan, employees are allowed to contribute a percentage of their salary before taxes up to a maximum contribution, which is $18,000 as of 2015 (IRS). In addition, employers may choose to add to each employee s 401(k) plan through matching each individual contribution or providing a one time lump sum. Each employee has a tax deferred account where he or she is able to choose where to allocate his or her contributions. For example, mutual funds and target funds are common investment options. In addition, there is more portability for retirement savings; 401(k)s can be rolled over into IRAs if employees change companies. This is a significant benefit for millennials who are expected to remain with companies for 3 5 years before switching. Further, as for retirement plans similar to a Roth or Safe Harbor, a traditional 401(k) is less expensive and easier to manage. However, these types of plans can be added on later, if SmartKidz would desire. Suggested Provisions In a preliminary outline of the plan, we have several key suggestions. First, SmartKidz should allow both full time and part time employees to contribute to a 401(k) plan. Although part time employees may result in higher administrative costs as a result of the high turnover associated with this category of workers, it is very important for these employees to be able to contribute to retirement plans. All of SmartKidz part time employees are between the ages of 25 and 65; they are not high school students trying to earn a paycheck. Your part time employees are part time for a reason pregnancy, disability, and other household duties so to accomplish your goal of showing respect and dignity, you should allow them to put money towards their future. In addition, allowing every employee to contribute would reduce the possible tension between full time and part time employees and increase the overall morale. Why Is Woolf Important In A Room Of One s Own Woolf: A room of One s Own Virginia Woolf s passage in A Room of One s Own does a nice job showing how word choice and splashes of imagery can take an opinion from just a statement to something that can be visualized and impactful to others. By using good word choice and imagery, Woolf was able to show the emotional, physical, and mental toll others had on creative women. Before the war, at a luncheon party like this, people would have said precisely the same things but they would have would sounded different, because in those days they were accompanied by sort of humming noise, not articulate, but musical, exciting, which changed the value of the words themselves. (Woolf, 344). She is saying that before the war, dialect communication was a form of poetry because it sounded like a rhythmic flow of words that strengthened the mind. This reveals that people lived in romantic ideology and in an illusion where everything was simple and beautiful. Therefore, the quote that I did mentioned is important because it illustrates the communication in the delusional English culture and how communication evolved into a coarser for after the war. • 14. The Objective Measurement Of Alpha Amylase The objective measurement of alpha amylase activity is used every day to ensure the quality of our staple foods. Alpha amylase is taken into account well before baking our foods and milling the grains. We will be reviewing what alpha amylase is, how it is measured and what effects it has in the industry all the way from the farm, to your fork. Alpha amylase is a protein enzyme present in grains that have starch. It is also present in humans, most commonly in saliva (Murray). The main purpose for alpha amylase is to break down, or hydrolase, polysaccharides, such as starch (Murray). When alpha amylase breaks down starch and glycogen, they cause a chemical reaction that creates the sugars maltose and glucose. Alpha amylose is also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The breakdown of starches into sugars gives the plant a food source to help it grow. In the 1970 s, Australian wheat farmers were suffering because their wheat crop was being bought at a reduced rate due to high alpha amylase activity (Csiro). This was caused by LMA, or late maturity alpha amylase. LMA is a genetic defect that causes high alpha amylase activity before harvest (Csiro). This meant that the wheat could not be stored as long and had poor milling qualities. As a result, in 1980, Australians recognized late maturity alpha amylase as a genetic defect in their wheat, along with pre harvest sprouting, or PHS (Csiro). Late maturity alpha amylase is caused only by genetics, where pre harvest sprouting can be caused by growing conditions, such as heavy rainfall. Today in Australia, wheat breeders have to test through two cycles of wheat before they pick what wheat lines they will breed and release to the farmers (Csiro). Even though they screen their wheat for LMA and PHS, wheat can still be susceptible to high alpha amylase activity, which will then become the millers responsibility. In the flour mill, if incoming wheat has high alpha amylase activity the miller must blend the wheat with wheat that has low alpha amylase activity, in order to create a blend with the proper amount of amylase activity. If the incoming wheat has too high amylase activity, the wheat will be rejected and the farmer will receive an even more income reductions. Millers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have taken the approach of showing respect to the students through introducing rights and responsibilities into the classroom whilst at all times demonstrating a pile of good will towards each student. Regular classroom meetings will be used to maintain behaviour and relationships between teacher and students, but also between students as well. The two major rights which should be protected by the teacher are that students have the right to learn as much as possible and the second is that all students have the right to feel physically and emotionally safe within the classroom. Students should be involved in this discussion and identify what behaviours are appropriate or inappropriate if the rights of their classmates are to be respected. • 16. Should Fund Programs Be Funded The Search For Extra... Understanding the heavens has been a continual mystery to humans. Throughout human history, individuals have been curious about life other than on planet Earth. The question that remains is if humanity is alone in the universe. This question is very important because after all, the universe is still expanding. In addition to the expansion of the universe, astronomers have discovered at least six potential habitable worlds in our own solar system(CITE). It is natural to wonder if other worlds might also have intelligent life and civilizations. Many claims have been made that we have already been visited by aliens in UFOs, however, while plenty of evidence has been offered for scientific examination so far none of it has been enough to convince us that the claims of visitations are real (Bennett, 260). However, this doesn t mean that there is no intelligent life beyond our home planet. Due to this, taxpayers should fund programs to begin the search for extra terrestrial life in the universe. The reason why there should be programs that fund the search for extra terrestrial life in the universe is because extra terrestrial life can help enhance our understanding of the universe. Where ever extra terrestrial beings are located in space they can enhance our understanding of the universe. This is because we are the newcomers in the universe and extra terrestrial beings can potentially be around since the time our universe was created, which was 14 billion years ago (Bennett,1 ). ... The short story Poe had written involved an intricate murder scheme, where the victim would be lured into a corner of a labyrinth of catacombs, chained to the wall, and then sealed off with a brick wall. While many would not consider this violenceby any conventional means, it is still violence Poe had written into the story to contribute to the overall meaning of the passage as a whole. Firstly, the eerie setting and macabre mood Poe establishes in The Cask of Amontilladoshould be emphasized. As soon as Montresor and Fortunado both step into the catacombs, the story becomes increasingly grim. The motto of Montresor s family is Nemo me impune lacessit, meaning, No one provokes me with impunity. From this, Montresor s motive for murder becomes clear: some time in the past, his family was attacked in some form, upsetting him, and driving him into killing Fortunado to live up to his family s motto. Introduction Long term follow up of high risk preterm infants has become increasingly important as the proportion of infants surviving has increased steadily over the past several decades. It is well known that these infants are at increased risk of cognitive impairment. (Class) With this increase in at risk survivors, many clinical research questions arise that can only be answered by long term follow up studies. (Vohr, Teune) Clinical trials that examine common perinatal therapies should also include a long term follow up component in their research to examine later neurodevelopmental outcomes in their cohorts. Although there is no prescribed protocol dictating which specific neurodevelopmental tests are to be completed during follow up, the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development and all its revisions, is the most widely used test to assess neurodevelopment of very preterm infants in the first three years of life (Luttikhuizen) and is a common outcome measure used in clinical research trials. Standardized developmental assessments such as the Bayley that are used in a pediatric clinical trial setting as primary outcome measures need to be reliably administered and scored. When small business begin to become more successful and make more money, Medicare takes their profits away and gives it to people who don t really need it. ObamaCare and Medicare have both taught ignorant Americans to not get a job because they can get the same amount of money in the form of a hand out instead of actually working for it and contributing to the economy. In accordance with the EMT Code of Ethics adopted by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, EMTs pledge to conserve life, alleviate suffering, promote health, do no harm, and encourage the quality and equal availability of emergency medical care . Through the medical education for an EMT license, a student learns how to appropriately treat and care for a medical or traumatic emergency in order to be able to successfully follow this system. He wrote about a peasant boy living in France just fifty years before him. The book itself is based on Guillaumin s own experience being a peasant in France. At the time the book was written which was about 1900s, he felt that the French peasants were not being recognized in the extent contemporary literature was being produced. Around this time, the industrialization of Europe was accelerating; there were many changes that were occurring, including the mixing of cities with factories and the agriculture industry in rural areas. This change gave Guillaumin the ability to write about a milestone about the differences in people and their lively hoods. A milestone which consisted in seeing the changes of people s lives as new work arose and new opportunities for what was thought of a better life. Guillaumin writes an excellent inside into understanding how the nineteenth century French peasants lived. The Mythology of Puritains In modern American mythology, the Puritans were characterized, by many Americans, as being nothing more than an extreme group of dour religious ascetics who abhorred anything that had to do with humor or sex. This image is fallacious. Furthermore, the Puritans were nothing more than another group of humans who defined their own world with their cultural norms, and values. To better understand the Puritans we have to expunge any mythology surrounding these people, and we have to study them on their own terms through their eyes if at all possible through the written record. The first major myth that must be deconstructed is that the Puritans were sexual prudes. Americans believed that the Puritans considered marriage as nothing more than a necessary evil that was used for only sexual reproduction. Moreover, many Americans believe that the Puritans tried to hide the physical aspect of a relationship as much as possible. This stereotype is false. The Puritans held a very different perspective about marriage and sex. John Cotton, a Puritan minister, stated Women are creatures without which there is no comfortable living for man: it is true of them what is wont to be said of Governments, That bad ones are better than none... for they are a necessary good. This smaller scale book is well written, and explores Washingtonas the human being behind the legendary icon (New York Times Book Review) to bring the reader to a closer relation to a man removed by time and history. Of time and history, GeorgeWashington had a great deal more of it which Flexner had to cover. Washington was a major national figure for twenty four years from his election as Commander in Chief to his death, and he was hardly twenty when his role in the French and Indian War made him internationally known. The wide ranging subject of Washington must have been difficult to fit into one encapsulated volume, but Flexner manages not only to do that but also writes straightforward in thought with flowing ideas and logical conclusions. The first chapter, of course, starts from George s Birth and tells of his childhood of growing admiration for the wilds of the frontier and the British Army. When I first arrived, I was greeted by the Usher who gave me a program. In the Program, there is a bolded section with the name and title of those that made the production possible. The director for this play was Jamie Warron, and the music director was Timothy Martuch. Each of them start to get attacked by this evil spirit and killing one by one. In the performance that I witnessed, the story was told in a comedic way compared to the Evil Dead film, which is more of a scarier and serious form of the story. We were able to determine that when the temperature decreases the pressure of the ball naturally decreases. According to physics the ideal gas law states that as temperature is reduced, the pressure will also be reduced. Our excel sheet began when the balls were first inflated during the Patriots 2015 AFC Championships. The balls started off in the locker room during that was at a temperature of 70 В°F. However, as the game progressed the temperature dropped. As a result, the final temperature was 50 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Virginia And Massachusetts Compare And Contrast During the early 1600s many new colonies were building up strong economies that produced materials worthy of trade. These colonies were also experimenting with more freedoms and democratic systems away from the watchful crown of England. Two colonies, Virginia and Massachusetts, were both able to be self sustaining colonies despite the vast differences between the two. Virginia s strong economic independence and Massachusettsstrong political freedoms and independence allowed the regions to establish themselves separate from England. One of the original intentions of the colonies was to tap into some of the wealth and gold the spanish were finding in south america. However, when no gold was found in Virginia the colonies focused on producing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Massachusetts was established by puritans in order for them to be free from the Anglican church of England. Massachusetts political system was largely swayed by the puritan church and many laws enforced biblical rule. The colony was governed by a representative body that required the representatives, as well as any other legal men, to be within strong standing in the puritan church before they were permitted to hold any political office. This government allowed the colony and her people to govern themselves creating a trial ground for democracy. However, the incredibly strict beliefs of the puritans developed an intolerance of people of other faiths, such as the quakers, anglicans and catholics, and thus caused a lack of diversity of ideas in the colony. Virginia s government, on the other hand, was not governed as a bible commonwealth like in massachusetts, this allowed for more diversity in the colony. In Virginia status was determined by land ownership instead of standing in the church. This created a class system which excluded many of the freed indentured servants from any involvement in the government. This eventually caused Bacon s rebellion which despite its scale caused little immediate change in the Virginia government, however it did make the government more aware of the freed frontiersmen who were previously ignored. This eventually gave them more sway in the colonial government which allowed for the eventual formation of a democratic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to make sure everyone is exercising this right to vote, some countries have enforced laws that prevent people from disregarding this civil duty. As an individual liberty consists in exemption from legal control, so political liberty consists in participation in legal control. Compulsory voting is in the interest of everyone in the country, through voting we are given a voice to decide which people amongst us we would rather have serving and protecting us. The initial expectation is that a substantial gap exists between the voting rates of the socially advantaged because the latter are less informed about politics, feel more alienated from the political system and are not the main target of mobilization efforts by political parties One of the problems with countries with voluntary voting is that participation is low participation which can also be called low electoral turnout. one of the problems most democratic states with voluntary voting have, is the turnout of electoral processes. Everyone has the right to vote but people on the day of election stay home and turnouts end up low. These states end up having less than 60% turnout. However in states with Compulsory voting such as Australia, election turnouts have been high. the average level of turnout under the system of compulsory voting was 91.6% If the turnouts for elections enhances democracy why do other states ... Organic Architecture Through Functionalism and Minimalism The inspiration of nature in design created a movement of Organic Architecture through functionalism and minimalism since the 1800 s influencing some of the greatest architects to emerge. Functionalist architects and artists design utilitarian structures in which the Organic Architecture dictates the development within and moves outward in harmony with its surroundings, without regard to such traditional devices as axial symmetry and classical proportions or any other heavy ornamentation. Louis Henry Sullivan s design theory that form ever follows function leads the dialogue towards a new world of design where the buildings effect on its surroundings is considered. The Wainwright building materials are sandstone, brick and windows. The first two stories have large deep windows and a modern approach to the brown sandstone due to the lacking of ornamentation. The next seven stories are red brick vertical columns with horizontal leaf decorated panels. The last story has round windows in terra cotta with a Notre Dame inspired leaf scroll.
