Comparing Vector Quantization and Wavelet Coefficients Essays
Wavelet transform is efficient tool for image compression,
Wavelet transform gives multiresolution image decomposition. which can .be exploited through vector
quantization to achieve high compression ratio. For vector quantization of wavelet coefficients vectors
are formed by either coefficients at same level, different location or different level, same location.
This paper compares the two methods and shows that because of wavelet properties, vector
quantization can still improve compression results by coding only important vectors for
reconstruction. Thus giving priority to the important vectors higher compression can be achieved at
better quality. The algorithm is also useful for embedded vector quantization coding of wavelet ...

PSNR I C band technique. Cross band technique takes the advantages of nterband dependency and
improves compression.
If we take into consideration HVS response, all the coefficients are not important for image
representation. This visual redundancy can be removed to improve the compression ratio further [5].
Edges in the image are more imponant for good quality image reconstruction. Vectors giving edge
information are more important .Giving priority to such important vectors embedded coding can be
achieved.
Method 2

. PRIORITY BASED ENCODING
Wavelet decomposition represents edges in horizontal vertical and diagonal direction. If we code only
the coefficients representing edges, image reconstruction at reduced rate is possible. To find edge
region, variance of the adjacent coefficients can be considered. In vector quantization if the vectors are
formed with adjacent coefficients from the same band at same
Location, variance of the vectors represent edge region.
Quality of the reconstructed image by coding only high variance vectors is much better than interband
vector quantiation. Codebook is generated including high variance vectors from training images. This
results into close match for important vectors and improves quality [6].

Midbrain And Epilepsychology
An understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the human brain is crucial with interpreting
epilepsy and its relation to the methods of diagnosis and treatment. There are three major divisions in
the brain: this includes the hindbrain, midbrain and forebrain. The hindbrain consists of the medulla
and the cerebellum. The medulla regulates the automatic bodily functions such as blood circulation,
heartbeat, and respiration. The cerebellum has to do with fine body movements and muscular
coordination. The midbrain contains the Reticular Activation System. This works with arousal, lower
level auditory and eye movements. The forebrain contains the hypothalamus, which has to work with
the feelings for hunger and thirst, and the cerebral cortex. The ... Show more content on

The frontal lobe is used for controlling functions such as thinking, memory, ex cetera. The occipital
lobe s primary function is vision. Parietal lobe is used for touch, temperature and pain perception.
Lastly, the temporal lobe works as the auditory system, also recognized as hearing. Each lobe may
contain its own type of epilepsy. For example, the frontal lobes epilepsy is known as recurring
seizures. This can cause a dramatic effect on the patient with their lifestyle. It is brief and occurs
mainly at night. The occipital is also known as recurring seizures but in only the occipital lobe. These
forms of seizures are rare. The parietal lobes type of epilepsy are recurring seizures beginning in the
parietal lobe. This is also known as the association cortex because it needs to communicate for the
brains functions. These types of seizures are rare as well. The last example would be temporal lobe
epilepsy. This is recurring seizures in the temporal lobe both sides of the head by the temples and
cheekbones. These seizures in this lobe are more common than others. Temporal lobe epilepsy can be
categorized as simple or complex partial

The Jonbenet Ramsey Case
A child pageant star was found asphyxiated with craniocerebral trauma in the basement of her own
house on the day after Christmas in 1996. Her name was JonBenet Ramsey; she was a six year old girl
who lived with her mother, father and brother in Boulder City, Colorado. Her death shocked the public
and the murderer has yet to be found. Many blame the mistakes the detectives made during the
investigation and her case has gained more recent popularity due to the fact that it has been
approximately twenty years since her unfortunate demise. Patsy and John Ramsey, boulder city
socialites, woke up on December 26, 1996 to find their daughter, JonBenet Ramsey, missing and a

McReynolds became a suspect due to his closeness with the Ramsey s and the fact that he was hired to

which depicted a disturbingly similar situation, but it was coincidental; All DNA and handwriting

to the crime in 2006. At the time, he was living in Thailand and was connected to child pornography

Oral History By Lee Smith And The Poem, Fishing Among The...
As a child matures, the word lesson can hold two different connotations. One meaning denotes a
traditional portion of a school day dedicated to a specific subject, such as a biology lesson. This lesson
is based on facts that are generally gleaned from a textbook or transmitted by a teacher who has been
certified in some way. Another type of lesson is that which helps the recipient either live a life of fuller
satisfaction or gain some practical knowledge that can help others, either physically or emotionally.
This type of lesson can be passed along by anyone, regardless of age or training. However, quite often,
one associates this type of knowledge with those who have lived long enough to absorb such life
lessons. The novel, Oral History by Lee Smith and the poem, Fishing Among the Learned by Nikky
Finney take two distinct and separate forms, but each work is separated into individual sections and
focuses on an elderly female character who fulfills the role of an all knowing sage, relying on nature
and rituals to teach younger generations the importance of a type of knowledge that cannot be learned
in an academic setting.
Each of these written texts is broken into distinct sections that represent either a certain type of
knowledge or a specific character relying knowledge. Finishing Among the Learned is comprised of
three sections. The first references the speaker s childhood and introduces the grandmother who
fulfills the role of teacher in the poem. Finney writes

Essay about Battle of the Somme
The Battle of the Somme epitomizes the harsh realities of trench warfare for the Allies and represents
the negligent battle planning and technological advancements that are associated with the stalemate of
World War One. Trench warfare was common across the Western Front, with similar strategies being
employed by both opposing sides. Sir Douglas Haig, one of the British coordinators for the Somme
offensive is blamed with an offensive strategy destined for failure. The British offensive, an utter
failure, resulted in a stalemate, which was common throughout World War One. The British
development of the tank, while it eventually ended the horrendous stalemate, was ineffectively used
during the Somme.

The British went into the Somme with a mixed attack plan, which led to an unsuccessful first assault
resulting in a battle of attrition. The opening day of The Battle of the Somme resulted in near 60,000
casualties for the British, the largest in British military history for a single day. Originally the Somme
was supposed to be a French dominated offensive, however the Germans attacked to the South in
Verdun occupying the majority of French troops. The British were then thrust into control of the
offensive, leaving Sir Douglas Haig and General Rawlinson to arrange an offensive strike against the
Germans. Haig advocated for the use of infantry including foot soldiers as well as cavalry to lead the
offensive. Rawlinson countered with a bite and hold strategy, which involved fortifying a strong
defense and warding off German counter attacks. Rather than committing to one strategy, the two
were combined in order to create a week long bombardment followed by an offensive attack on foot.
The offensive was planned on a strict time table, as Haig did not trust those who were considered
volunteer soldiers. This quote demonstrates Haig s disdain towards those who did not have significant
military training, He tended to disdain and to suspect the motives of people who could not properly
govern themselves. (Johnson). As a result of his dislike towards the volunteer army he designed the
offensive so

A Poison Tree Analysis
Mistakes: An action that is misguided or wrong. Mistakes are made in everyday life. Mistakes can be
anything from keeping in emotions, to how someone handled a situation. Mistakes aren t made unless
someone does something wrong. This idea can be seen in many pieces of texts including the following
poems. A Poison Tree by William Blake and A total stranger one black day by e.e. cummings both
convey the message that people need to learn to deal with their emotions, otherwise it can lead to
mistakes.
Through A Poison Tree, William Blake conveys that handling emotions inappropriately leads to
mistakes. The use of an extended metaphor expresses this theme because William Blake compares
hatred to a tree. As the poem continues, so does the growth of the tree, and hatred the subject is
feeling. The speaker states, I told it not, my wrath did grow./And it grew both day and night (Blake 4
and 9). In this quote, the speaker expresses that he hasn t told the person who he hates, his feelings,
and they continue to grow. His hatred grows more and more as time passes, just like a tree grows and
grows. This compares to a tree because trees start off as a small seed and they continue to grow into a
large tree. The extended metaphor expresses the theme because the speaker doesn t know how to
handle his emotions, and let s them keep building up which leads to a major mistake in his future.
Another device William Blake uses is an allusion because he is alluding to the garden of Eden and

Legalization of Marijuana on the economy
If one were told that the United States had all of the answers to their economic issues growing within
their country wouldn t people take advantage of it? Even if the solution was currently considered as an
illegal substance. George Shaw stated, If history repeats itself, and the unexpected always happens,
how incapable must Man be of learning from experience. Mr. Shaw s wisdom particularly applies to
the current debate on the legalization of cannabis, and if it should be legal state or nationwide. The
present day prohibition on marijuana is not any different than the past prohibition on alcohol in the
roaring 20 s. The legalization of marijuana, similar to alcohol not only means more money for the
government, but also more revenue, jobs, and savings. The debate can be tough to follow with all of
the political jargon. Americans must keep in mind that is substantial to find a solution to the lingering
question, should marijuana be legalized? It is vital for the United States to end the expensive and
uneconomical prohibition. Besides the infinite reasons for legalization such as ending panic over
drugs, lowering crime rate and ending drug related pollution there is one clear motive for legalization,
the money. The Huffington Post reported The government would save an estimated $13.7 billion on
prohibition enforcement costs and tax revenue by legalizing marijuana. How is it

Comparing Tokyo And Auckland s Development
Cities located globally increase significantly through the process of urbanisation, temporally and
spatially. Through urbanisation, technology is a huge advancement for cities. The main technology
advancement is transportation. I have chosen to compare Tokyo with Auckland. I will discuss Tokyo
and Auckland s development (1880 1930), outlining pressures and opportunities created by technology
advancements and how Tokyo is caused by urbanisation, comparing with Auckland.
Tokyo s population is approximately 13.35million with rapid urban growth. The land area of Tokyo is
approximately 2,187km2. Tokyo was first established in 1869. Tokyo was originally named Edo
(small fishing village) in early 1800 s. Tokyo was a part of the Musashi Province development. The
early 18th century, there were not much transportation in Edo, including planes, trains and cars. The
main transport mode was walking, boats or horseback. Any cargo transported by people, oxen/horses,
were by large carts or traditional boats. The Edo period (1603 1868), Edo did not have carriages
drawn by horses compared to horse back carriages in Auckland. The main cause of cargo were by
boats. Other transport were palanquins (equivalence to taxicabs). Palanquins were used in the city to
transport people. Road networks were then a main pressure for Tokyo as to transport freight to long
distances between cities. The Tokugawa government started to develop road infrastructure, by
connecting highways between Edo and

Blow Up, his second colored film, investigates how man deals with the flux even though he is
separated from it. The viewer is first introduced to downtown London. A grayish black jeep, teeming
with shouting young adults, crawls over a cobble stone hill into a gray blue sky and turns the corner.
The jeep reappears in a wide street, young adults, painted as mimes, pour from the vehicle and flood
the road. A small group passes by the protagonist Thomas, who hands one begging girl a crumpled bill
from the back seat of his car. The camera attaches to Thomas, and the viewer stares down at him as he
drives through a tunnel. Unlike L Eclisse, Thomas is immediately depicted as a moving factor in the
flux of reality. The viewer knows his landscape before they know him, and Antonioni tells the viewer
they will not know Thomas when the viewer does not see the jeep turn a corner. The viewer is driving
blindly into Thomas s story and will have to make conclusions based on separate pieces of
information. They are further separated from Thomas because Antonioni gives us permission to
figuratively judge him by literally looking down at him. Thomas s ground position suggests Thomas is
a man who functions in human utility and even the viewer, who Antonioni does not know, is closer to
reality than his character. Antonioni gives grounds for these assumptions when the viewer watches
Thomas, a photographer by profession, shoot two photo shoots. Thomas hovers and yells at his model,

The Mapping Of Ip Addresses
ABSTRACT: The mapping of IP addresses to host names is a major problem in rapidly growing
internet. The higher level binding effort went on increasing to different level of development up to the
currently used Domain Name System. DNS, being an open source, it is less secured and it has no
means of determining whether domain name data comes from an authorized domain owner. So these

and require the use of a professional contractor. However, the truth is, you can limit the impact that
these repairs have on your budget by simply choosing to do the job yourself. Best of all, completing
this task can be much easier than you think when simply following the steps outlined below.

Begin by measuring the space between your fencing posts to ensure you are choosing the right size
rail for the job. Next, remove the post cap, brace bands, and tension bands from the fencing post on
one side of the new rail. This will allow you to slide the new rail into place.
After sliding the rail into place, simply attach the end of the rail to the rail cap. Next, replace the brace
bands to hold the rail in place.
Step 3: Attach Chain Link
Stretch the chain link over the posts and ensure that the brace bands and post caps are in place before
using your pliers to tighten the bolts that connect this fencing material to your newly installed rail.
While this process can be completed on your own, it is much easier to complete with two set of hands
so don t be afraid to ask a co worker or friend for help.
Once the chain link is in place, reattach the tension bars that were removed in the previous step. This
will hold the fencing tight between the surrounding fence posts.
Finally, use your tie wires to secure the chain link to your new top rail.

Similarities Between Underground And Notes From The...
As I read Notes from the underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and watched the film Rashomon
directed by Akira Kurosawa I noticed a few similarities and differences between the two. They were
similar because they both are frame narratives, the narrator is unreliable, there were parts in first
person or was written in first person and they both had analepsis. The main differences were the
themes. The themes were very different in both stories.
What is the theme in literature? A theme in literature is the main topic or topics of a story. As I read
through the required text and watch the film I chose egoism and individual versus society for Notes
from the Underground and multiplicity for Rashomon .
A frame narrative is basically a story within a story. In Notes from the Underground the whole story is
basically a bunch of stories that the narrator tells about his life. The narrator talks about his past and
this is where analepsis comes in which is a flashback to a different time. For example the narrator lets
us know at the beginning he is forty then later on he goes on to talk about what happens when he was
twenty four. The narrator also is unreliable because the story is told in an irrational way. The film
Rashomon also has a bunch of stories within the film. As each person tells their side, it s almost like
mini stories. And as with Notes from the Underground the stories go back as analepsis. They flashback
to the time when they happened to describe what actually happens. This film is described as an
unreliable narrative because each story that was told was different, which makes you wonder what
really happened.
When I finished watching Rashomon I immediately said the theme is multiplicity. Every person that
saw what happened had their own view of what happened. There was no story that was the exact say
as the other. But that there says people will do anything to make a story sound good. Each
interpretation of how everything went made someone look like someone else was to blame. There is a
saying there is more than one side of a story and this film proves that. The bandit that has a reputation
for killing and lust tied the samurai and kissed his wife. The woodcutter found the man s dead body of

a course called Globally Responsible Tourism at the Norwegian School of Hotel Management in
Stavanger, which is mandatory for students studying a bachelor degree in tourism management. In this
course Professor Weaver s ecotourism book is used as the textbook, and in light of this course we
became interested in sustainability and ecotourism in the first place. Luckily, he was teaching at the
university we did our exchange semester at, and due to that we got the opportunity to interview him in
person for this bachelor thesis. As already mentioned, the research question for this bachelor thesis is
about how GBR can be seen as a sustainable destination. To figure this out, it is important to
understand how tourism or visitors affect the GBR. During the interview with Weaver, he expresses
himself about climate change, chemical waste, tourism impacts, global warming, etc. According to
Weaver, tourism impacts includes that the good outcomes overwhelmed the negative impacts in GBR.

Southwest Airline s Low Cost Fare Structure And Customer...
Introduction
Southwest Airline s low cost fare structure and customer service has been its primary core competency
and has enabled the airline to maintain its market share while sustaining its competitive advantage
over its rivals for over 40 years. This internal analysis will provide a review of the strengths and
weaknesses of events that occur within the firm along with a financial analysis assessment and
recommendation for future decisions.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Southwest s business model is dependent upon labor as approximately 83% of the company s
employees are represented by labor unions. This makes the firm particularly exposed in the event of
labor related issues. The Company s success is also dependent upon attracting and retaining qualified
personnel. In the future, it may be necessary for Southwest to increase existing levels of compensation
to retain its human capital. Currently, salaries, wages, and benefits represented approximately 41% of
the company s operating expenses for the year ended December 31, 2015. In terms of operating
expenses, fuel and oil comprised 23% of the airline s totals in 2015. Southwest Airlines had first
unhedged its 2015 fuel consumption however, later in the year as crude prices increased, new hedging
positions were added in response to expectations of increased fuel prices in the future. If the oil prices,
in fact, rise later in 2016 the airline will see a decrease in its operating expense and an increase in
capacity and

Chaos And Chaos In Oedipus
Chaos is an ubiquitous force in nature that can found anywhere and at anytime. A little chaos is the
key to keeping society together, but an excessive amount is detrimental to humanity and the ways of
the world. Oedipus Rex by Sophocles and Oedipus Out of Joint by Jean Pierre Vernant help us
understand Oedipus s downfall and the devious role chaos plays in the whole affair. Attempting to
fight for order in the battle against chaos for authority, his actions serve as an expedient for the
pandemonium that develops in his life meanwhile entrapping himself in an inescapable entanglement
that he inadvertently inflicts upon himself.
Chaos has the uncanny ability of slipping through the cracks of a city s firm foundation and poisoning
the area. Disguised as a hero, Oedipus is welcomed as the king of Thebes and is endlessly praised for
his gallantry and wisdom. Citizens view him as the savior who rescued them from the Sphinx s wrath,
but unbeknownst to them and even Oedipus himself, he is the very pollution who causes all the
ongoing chaos in the city. He vows to expose and penalize the murderer for the unjustified act of
regicide to appease Apollo and lift the plague, yet when Teiresias accuses him of being the
contamination, he repudiates the charge and blames Creon instead of accepting responsibility. His
wisdom fails him even with evidence staring him in the face, and hubris blinds him to the painful truth
that he killed his own blood. By slaughtering his father, he takes Laius s identity and transfers into the
stage of an old man: But the moment he slips into old age... he becomes at best a man of words and of
wise counsel, and at worst a pitiable wreck (Vernant, 167). Once Oedipus is unmasked as the
perpetrator, they pity the broken man he becomes, but are disgusted by his vileness, and exile him to a
lifetime of suffering protecting themselves from the fury of Apollo that Oedipus imposes upon them.
Just as chaos can unconsciously invade a city, it can seep into the mind, the fragile thing. Quick to
anger, Oedipus s actions only manages to provoke resentment he will learn to regret later on. Rage?
Why not!/And I ll tell you what I think:/You planned it, you had it done, you all but/ Killed him with

Students Should Be Tested For Drug Use Essay
Makaiya Roy Mrs. King ELA 1st 07 April 2017 Teens Should be Tested for Drug Use Should students
be tested for drug use? Some people say no, that they shouldn t, but some others say otherwise.
Students should be required to take drug tests because many teenagers make bad choices and do drugs,
and some student athletes are taking performance enhancing drugs. First of all, many teenagers make
bad choices and do drugs. To begin with, of the seniors surveyed last year, 16 percent had used
cocaine at least once, 12 percent had used it during the previous year and 6 percent were monthly
users of the drug. Monthly use increased the most in the northeastern states, from 7 percent in 1983 to
11 percent in 1984.This states that some teenagers make bad choices and do drugs, so they should be
tested for them. Among 12th graders, the most commonly used drug was alcohol with 76.2% reporting
lifetime use, followed by tobacco cigarettes with 50.9%, and marijuana with 43.6%. These statistics
are reporting that many teenagers have taken drugs within their lifetime, and drug tests would help
with teen drug use so they could get help and get unattached to drugs. The most commonly used drug
among 9th graders was alcohol with 52.1% reporting lifetime use, followed by tobacco cigarettes with
30.1%, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teen student athletes shouldn t be tested for drug use. If students are never tested for drug use, then
they will end up ruining their lives with drugs. Students in U.S. public schools have the Fourth
Amendment right to be free from unreasonable searches. This right is diminished in the school
environment, however, because of the unique need to maintain a safe atmosphere where learning and
teaching can occur. What the author fails to consider is that even though students do have a fourth
amendment right, the schools still have the rights to search the students lockers and bags if they are on

Research Paper On Le Bateau-Lavoir
He was a Spanish painter and sculptor, born into a wealthy family in Madrid in 1887. He abandoned,
at the age of seventeen, his engineering studies to dedicate himself to learn to paint. Two years later, in
1906, he moved to Paris and settled in the prestigious artists residence and meeting place, Le Bateau
Lavoir. This is where he met Picasso, Max Jacob, Pierre Reverdy and Guillaume Apollinaire, with
whom he contributed to the evolution of Cubism.
His first paintings, revealed to the public at the 1912 Salon des Indépendants, made a great
impression. He offered a personal Cubist style. He played a key role in the development of the second
phase of cubism, known as synthetic , as opposed to the period known as analytical . The first phase

By Definition, An Exchange Rate Is “The Price Of A Nation’S
By definition, an Exchange rate is The price of a nation s currency in terms of another currency (1). It
is one of the most important measurements for determining a country s economic strength, and it
impacts people s daily life too. As a foreign student studying in America, we have to pay very close
attention to the exchange rate, and this promoted our interests in why exchange rate is floating all the
time. In general, exchange rate can be affected by many factors include inflation rates, interest rates,
or government policies. But in this paper, we re focusing on the relationship between exchange rate
and political decisions. First of all, we believe that the exchange rates can be affected by political
decisions. For example, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not long after, Japan suffered a long period economic recession, also known as lost decade . Good
political decisions on the exchange rate can ensure economic stability and prosperity. As we all know
the Asian financial crisis in 1997, started with the devaluation of the baht, further spread to almost all
countries in Asia. The Chinese government made a very critical decision of refusing to devaluate the
Chinese Yuan during the crisis, also including Hong Kong dollars. This decision could hurt the
Chinese economy. From Hong Kong s perspective, the strong Hong Kong dollar would affect Hong
Kong s tourism industry, reduce foreign investments. More importantly, it would also decrease the
export competitiveness of mainland China. A major part of China s economy is based on labor
intensive export enterprises, so refusing to devaluate the Chinese Yuan in the crisis could knock down
these export enterprises and result in thousands of people in China losing their jobs. However, we
think this decision of refusing to devaluate the Chinese Yuan was a good political decision overall.
Even though with all the risks associated with this decision, Chinese Yuan became the most reliable
currency in the crisis, helped other countries suffered from the crisis to stabilize their economies, so
the international status of China had a significant improvement because of this political decision. After
the crisis, China joined the WTO in 2001 due to the good

Key Life Events
In James 4:14 (NIV) God says What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and
vanishes . Even as a 28 year old I can see the reality of these words. My life is short, and it is
important to make the years I have on earth count. In order to make sure I am spending my time on
earth wisely, it can be beneficial to reflect on past events from my life. In this essay I will discuss
some positive events from my timeline, key transitions that changed my life in a positive way,
negative events in my life, and key transitions that changed my life in a negative way, and finally I
will discuss what I discovered about myself through this mapping exercise. In addition I will also
explain how I feel, and give a short summary of my life. The most positive events in my life line map

Discussing this subject is like peeling back old wounds. They may be healed, but they will always be
there. It is not something that can be undone, but I can use this event as an opportunity to learn, grow
and motivation to change for the future. After rehashing this subject, it is extra motivation for me to
stay committed in my own marriage, and do whatever is necessary to make my marriage strong. I also
discovered how much a perspective can change with enough time. Like I mentioned previously
moving out of my mom s place did not seem like a positive event at the time, but looking back I
realize just what a pivotal step that was. I would have never received the blessings and the good that
came out of that negative situation. I also realized that my timeline is continual and that there will be
future events on my timeline which seem negative at the time. It might take some time and patience to
see the good that God can make out of a tough

Sexual Components In Angela Carter s The Bloody Chamber
Throughout the literature we have read in this class, several books and short stories have had subtle
sexual components. In Angela Carter s The Bloody Chamber, there are several important themes and
characteristics that help give the reader the ability to understand the actions of both the narrator and
The Marquis, but sex and it s relation to power drives each character s actions and emotions. For the
Marquis, he finds all the power in the relationship by exemplifying sadistic behavior, constantly
mocking and ridiculing the narrator, and ultimately looking to find satisfaction in her pain and
potential death. The narrator parallels the Marquis sadism with masochism, often finding satisfaction
and taking comfort in the pain that he causes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that this is the interpretation of sadomasochism that Angela Carter chose to represent is
important because although the book is set during a time period when feminism was not yet prevalent
in the world, The Bloody Chamber was written after women s suffrage, in 1979. As soon as ten years
after the short story was published several works were also published that went against the Freudian
model of sadomasochism. In Jessica Benjamin s, The Bonds of Love, Benjamin discusses the idea that
women can actually control their own subordination, therefore making the passive partner equally as
dominant as the aggressor, which gets rid of the notion that the dominant partner is always male. In
The Bloody Chamber, we only see the young girl as someone who allows herself to gain no control
over the power dynamic regarding the couple s relationship in general. In fact, the only time we see
the narrator stand up for herself, or even respond to the Marquis comments towards her, is at the very
end of the story when she is stalling her death with the hope that her mother will

human suffering and everyday experiences. In Chapter Three, Pangloss catches syphilis from the maid

A Research Study On Cystic Fibrosis
Brief History
Cystic Fibrosis was first recognized in 1938, as an individual disease or distinct entity, which basically
means that the symptoms were not related to any other illness (Davis, 2006), but there was a common
passage in the Almanac of Children s Songs and Games from Switzerland , the passage read, the child
will soon die who s brow tastes salty when kissed , which hinted at the saltiness of the skin of infants
who died might relate to Cystic Fibrosis. Autopsies were done in 1838 on malnourished infants, these
infants acclaimed a diseases of mucus that plugged the glandular ducts, this was termed as cystic
fibrosis of the pancreas by D.H. Anderson (Davis, 2006). Cystic Fibrosis was described by the
following symptoms, malabsorption of fats and proteins, growth failure, steatorrhea, and pulmonary
infection (Davis, 2006). Numerous articles began to appear during the early 1900s, these articles were
describing newborns who had pancreatic disorders (Shapiro Heussner, p.17).
Around 1944, scientists discovered that the widespread defect of mucous secretions could have a big
explanation for the many symptoms of cystic fibrosis (Shapiro Heussner, p.17). There was are pattern
of recessive inheritance patter that was proposed in 1946 (Todd 2001), by the 1950s many
advancements have been made, such as diagnosis and even the development of the sweat test and
successful treatments for lung infections by using antibiotics (Shapiro Heussner, p.17). In the year

Quantitative Vs. Qualitative
3.2.2 Quantitative VS Qualitative
According to Yin (2003), there are two types of research approach. This includes quantitative research
approach and qualitative research approach. A quantitative research emphasizes on transforming the
data to numbers, quantities and statistics to formulate facts and to uncover patterns in a research. It
addresses research purposes through empirical analysis that involve numerical measurement, the
relationship between variables and analysis approaches (Zikmund et al., 2010). The sample size being
investigated is typically large (Anderson, 2006). Quantitative research mainly uses questionnaires,
surveys and other equipment to collect numerical or measurable data (Anderson, 2006). On the other
hand, a qualitative research typically emphasizes words more than numbers ... Show more content on

relatively small samples and is normally not analyzed with statistical technique. This type of research
is normally to answer how or why questions (Yin, 2003). The methods of collecting data sources are
mainly interviewing, focus groups, observation and document reviews (Meurer et al., 2007). The main
purpose of this kind of research is to gather an in depth understanding of the phenomenon studied and
to describe the situation through detailed information (Adar, 2011). The purpose of this study is to
gain insightful information in order to have a better understanding on how internal and external factors
influence SME s in choosing the right market entry mode. Therefore, the author regarded that the
qualitative is the most suitable to understand how the factors affecting entry mode choices. In

Effectiveness Of The CLAS Literature Review
According to Guerrero (2012), in the past, there were federal and state campaigns that attempted to get
mental health agencies to provide cultural competence in the delivery of their services. However, it
was not until recently that initiatives have been made that require mental health organizations to
provide evidence of the use of cultural competence in their services. Guerrero also states that the
regulation of cultural competence standards was thought to have been poorly monitored prior to the
1990s, and that the regulation of CLAS standards did not begin until the 1990s. For example, the Joint
Commission now requires the use of the CLAS standards in order to get professional accreditation
(Guerrero, 2012). Also, educational institutions use CLAS standards to help with professional training
in working with diverse populations. Professional associations, such as the American Psychological
Association, have regulations that require cultural competence standards be practiced by many of the
graduate programs. In addition, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act mandates that health care and mental

Healthcare Crisis And Affordable Care Act
Healthcare Crisis Affordable Care Act
During the 2008 presidential election, the issue of health care reform became a pressing issue, mainly
among the Democrats. Supporters quoted that nearly 46 million Americans were uninsured while 25
million did not have sufficient health coverage. The costly monthly insurance premiums led countless
individuals to fully rely on government entitled programs for their health care needs. Upon his
election, President Obama made health care reform the focus of his agenda during his first year as
President.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) or Affordable Care Act (ACA) for short, is
the new health care reform law in the United States of America and is often referred to by its
nickname Obama Care. The Affordable Care Act was signed into law on March 23, 2010, to reform
health care in the United States of America. ACA is a part of the Democratic Congress and President
Obama s efforts to reform the American health care system in order to provide health insurance to
millions of uninsured American citizens and lower the expenses linked to health care. This new health
care act is one that contains various enhancements to the quality and availability, as well as the
affordability of health insurance. There have also been improvements with the new cost cutting
measures, rules and regulations for both public and private health insurance companies along with the
health care industry. Since the ACA was signed into law,

  • 2. Comparing Vector Quantization and Wavelet Coefficients Essays Wavelet transform is efficient tool for image compression, Wavelet transform gives multiresolution image decomposition. which can .be exploited through vector quantization to achieve high compression ratio. For vector quantization of wavelet coefficients vectors are formed by either coefficients at same level, different location or different level, same location. This paper compares the two methods and shows that because of wavelet properties, vector quantization can still improve compression results by coding only important vectors for reconstruction. Thus giving priority to the important vectors higher compression can be achieved at better quality. The algorithm is also useful for embedded vector quantization coding of wavelet ... Cross band technique takes the advantages of nterband dependency and improves compression. If we take into consideration HVS response, all the coefficients are not important for image representation. This visual redundancy can be removed to improve the compression ratio further [5]. Edges in the image are more imponant for good quality image reconstruction. Vectors giving edge information are more important .Giving priority to such important vectors embedded coding can be achieved. Method 2 PSNR I C . PRIORITY BASED ENCODING Wavelet decomposition represents edges in horizontal vertical and diagonal direction. If we code only the coefficients representing edges, image reconstruction at reduced rate is possible. To find edge region, variance of the adjacent coefficients can be considered. In vector quantization if the vectors are formed with adjacent coefficients from the same band at same Location, variance of the vectors represent edge region. Quality of the reconstructed image by coding only high variance vectors is much better than interband vector quantiation. Codebook is generated including high variance vectors from training images. This results into close match for important vectors and improves quality [6]. This simple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Midbrain And Epilepsychology An understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the human brain is crucial with interpreting epilepsy and its relation to the methods of diagnosis and treatment. There are three major divisions in the brain: this includes the hindbrain, midbrain and forebrain. The hindbrain consists of the medulla and the cerebellum. The medulla regulates the automatic bodily functions such as blood circulation, heartbeat, and respiration. The cerebellum has to do with fine body movements and muscular coordination. The midbrain contains the Reticular Activation System. This works with arousal, lower level auditory and eye movements. The forebrain contains the hypothalamus, which has to work with the feelings for hunger and thirst, and the cerebral cortex. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The frontal lobe is used for controlling functions such as thinking, memory, ex cetera. The occipital lobe s primary function is vision. Parietal lobe is used for touch, temperature and pain perception. Lastly, the temporal lobe works as the auditory system, also recognized as hearing. Each lobe may contain its own type of epilepsy. For example, the frontal lobes epilepsy is known as recurring seizures. This can cause a dramatic effect on the patient with their lifestyle. It is brief and occurs mainly at night. The occipital is also known as recurring seizures but in only the occipital lobe. These forms of seizures are rare. The parietal lobes type of epilepsy are recurring seizures beginning in the parietal lobe. This is also known as the association cortex because it needs to communicate for the brains functions. These types of seizures are rare as well. The last example would be temporal lobe epilepsy. This is recurring seizures in the temporal lobe both sides of the head by the temples and cheekbones. These seizures in this lobe are more common than others. Temporal lobe epilepsy can be categorized as simple or complex partial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Her name was JonBenet Ramsey; she was a six year old girl who lived with her mother, father and brother in Boulder City, Colorado. Her death shocked the public and the murderer has yet to be found. Many blame the mistakes the detectives made during the investigation and her case has gained more recent popularity due to the fact that it has been approximately twenty years since her unfortunate demise. This Santa Claus Was Part of The JonBenet Ramsey Investigation). Investigators also became suspicious when they found a play his wife had written which depicted a disturbingly similar situation, but it was coincidental; All DNA and handwriting samples ruled them out as suspects. • 6. Oral History By Lee Smith And The Poem, Fishing Among The... As a child matures, the word lesson can hold two different connotations. One meaning denotes a traditional portion of a school day dedicated to a specific subject, such as a biology lesson. This lesson is based on facts that are generally gleaned from a textbook or transmitted by a teacher who has been certified in some way. Another type of lesson is that which helps the recipient either live a life of fuller satisfaction or gain some practical knowledge that can help others, either physically or emotionally. This type of lesson can be passed along by anyone, regardless of age or training. However, quite often, one associates this type of knowledge with those who have lived long enough to absorb such life lessons. The novel, Oral History by Lee Smith and the poem, Fishing Among the Learned by Nikky Finney take two distinct and separate forms, but each work is separated into individual sections and focuses on an elderly female character who fulfills the role of an all knowing sage, relying on nature and rituals to teach younger generations the importance of a type of knowledge that cannot be learned in an academic setting. Each of these written texts is broken into distinct sections that represent either a certain type of knowledge or a specific character relying knowledge. Finishing Among the Learned is comprised of three sections. The first references the speaker s childhood and introduces the grandmother who fulfills the role of teacher in the poem. Finney writes ... Essay about Battle of the Somme The Battle of the Somme epitomizes the harsh realities of trench warfare for the Allies and represents the negligent battle planning and technological advancements that are associated with the stalemate of World War One. Trench warfare was common across the Western Front, with similar strategies being employed by both opposing sides. Sir Douglas Haig, one of the British coordinators for the Somme offensive is blamed with an offensive strategy destined for failure. The British offensive, an utter failure, resulted in a stalemate, which was common throughout World War One. The British development of the tank, while it eventually ended the horrendous stalemate, was ineffectively used during the Somme. Trench warfare became a common ... The opening day of The Battle of the Somme resulted in near 60,000 casualties for the British, the largest in British military history for a single day. Originally the Somme was supposed to be a French dominated offensive, however the Germans attacked to the South in Verdun occupying the majority of French troops. The British were then thrust into control of the offensive, leaving Sir Douglas Haig and General Rawlinson to arrange an offensive strike against the Germans. Haig advocated for the use of infantry including foot soldiers as well as cavalry to lead the offensive. Rawlinson countered with a bite and hold strategy, which involved fortifying a strong defense and warding off German counter attacks. Rather than committing to one strategy, the two were combined in order to create a week long bombardment followed by an offensive attack on foot. The offensive was planned on a strict time table, as Haig did not trust those who were considered volunteer soldiers. This quote demonstrates Haig s disdain towards those who did not have significant military training, He tended to disdain and to suspect the motives of people who could not properly govern themselves. • 8. A Poison Tree Analysis Mistakes: An action that is misguided or wrong. Mistakes are made in everyday life. Mistakes can be anything from keeping in emotions, to how someone handled a situation. Mistakes aren t made unless someone does something wrong. This idea can be seen in many pieces of texts including the following poems. A Poison Tree by William Blake and A total stranger one black day by e.e. cummings both convey the message that people need to learn to deal with their emotions, otherwise it can lead to mistakes. Through A Poison Tree, William Blake conveys that handling emotions inappropriately leads to mistakes. The use of an extended metaphor expresses this theme because William Blake compares hatred to a tree. As the poem continues, so does the growth of the tree, and hatred the subject is feeling. The speaker states, I told it not, my wrath did grow./And it grew both day and night (Blake 4 and 9). In this quote, the speaker expresses that he hasn t told the person who he hates, his feelings, and they continue to grow. His hatred grows more and more as time passes, just like a tree grows and grows. This compares to a tree because trees start off as a small seed and they continue to grow into a large tree. The extended metaphor expresses the theme because the speaker doesn t know how to handle his emotions, and let s them keep building up which leads to a major mistake in his future. Another device William Blake uses is an allusion because he is alluding to the garden of Eden and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Legalization Of Marijuana On The Economy Chelsea Ballew Mr. Harrington Writ 101, 72 31 March 2015 Legalization of Marijuana on the economy If one were told that the United States had all of the answers to their economic issues growing within their country wouldn t people take advantage of it? Even if the solution was currently considered as an illegal substance. George Shaw stated, If history repeats itself, and the unexpected always happens, how incapable must Man be of learning from experience. Mr. Shaw s wisdom particularly applies to the current debate on the legalization of cannabis, and if it should be legal state or nationwide. The present day prohibition on marijuana is not any different than the past prohibition on alcohol in the roaring 20 s. The legalization of marijuana, similar to alcohol not only means more money for the government, but also more revenue, jobs, and savings. The debate can be tough to follow with all of the political jargon. Americans must keep in mind that is substantial to find a solution to the lingering question, should marijuana be legalized? It is vital for the United States to end the expensive and uneconomical prohibition. Besides the infinite reasons for legalization such as ending panic over drugs, lowering crime rate and ending drug related pollution there is one clear motive for legalization, the money. The Huffington Post reported The government would save an estimated $13.7 billion on prohibition enforcement costs and tax revenue by legalizing marijuana. How is it ... • 12. Comparing Tokyo And Auckland s Development Cities located globally increase significantly through the process of urbanisation, temporally and spatially. Through urbanisation, technology is a huge advancement for cities. The main technology advancement is transportation. I have chosen to compare Tokyo with Auckland. I will discuss Tokyo and Auckland s development (1880 1930), outlining pressures and opportunities created by technology advancements and how Tokyo is caused by urbanisation, comparing with Auckland. Tokyo s population is approximately 13.35million with rapid urban growth. The land area of Tokyo is approximately 2,187km2. Tokyo was first established in 1869. Tokyo was originally named Edo (small fishing village) in early 1800 s. Tokyo was a part of the Musashi Province development. The early 18th century, there were not much transportation in Edo, including planes, trains and cars. The main transport mode was walking, boats or horseback. Any cargo transported by people, oxen/horses, were by large carts or traditional boats. The Edo period (1603 1868), Edo did not have carriages drawn by horses compared to horse back carriages in Auckland. The main cause of cargo were by boats. Other transport were palanquins (equivalence to taxicabs). Palanquins were used in the city to transport people. Road networks were then a main pressure for Tokyo as to transport freight to long distances between cities. • 13. Italian Cinema Paper Blow Up, his second colored film, investigates how man deals with the flux even though he is separated from it. The viewer is first introduced to downtown London. A grayish black jeep, teeming with shouting young adults, crawls over a cobble stone hill into a gray blue sky and turns the corner. The jeep reappears in a wide street, young adults, painted as mimes, pour from the vehicle and flood the road. A small group passes by the protagonist Thomas, who hands one begging girl a crumpled bill from the back seat of his car. The camera attaches to Thomas, and the viewer stares down at him as he drives through a tunnel. Unlike L Eclisse, Thomas is immediately depicted as a moving factor in the flux of reality. As I read Notes from the underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and watched the film Rashomon directed by Akira Kurosawa I noticed a few similarities and differences between the two. They were similar because they both are frame narratives, the narrator is unreliable, there were parts in first person or was written in first person and they both had analepsis. The main differences were the themes. The themes were very different in both stories. What is the theme in literature? A theme in literature is the main topic or topics of a story. As I read through the required text and watch the film I chose egoism and individual versus society for Notes from the Underground and multiplicity for Rashomon . A frame narrative is basically a story within a story. In Notes from the Underground the whole story is basically a bunch of stories that the narrator tells about his life. The narrator talks about his past and this is where analepsis comes in which is a flashback to a different time. For example the narrator lets us know at the beginning he is forty then later on he goes on to talk about what happens when he was twenty four. The narrator also is unreliable because the story is told in an irrational way. The film Rashomon also has a bunch of stories within the film. As each person tells their side, it s almost like mini stories. And as with Notes from the Underground the stories go back as analepsis. They flashback to the time when they happened to describe what actually happens. This film is described as an unreliable narrative because each story that was told was different, which makes you wonder what really happened. When I finished watching Rashomon I immediately said the theme is multiplicity. Every person that saw what happened had their own view of what happened. There was no story that was the exact say as the other. But that there says people will do anything to make a story sound good. Each interpretation of how everything went made someone look like someone else was to blame. There is a saying there is more than one side of a story and this film proves that. • 24. Chaos And Chaos In Oedipus Chaos is an ubiquitous force in nature that can found anywhere and at anytime. A little chaos is the key to keeping society together, but an excessive amount is detrimental to humanity and the ways of the world. Oedipus Rex by Sophocles and Oedipus Out of Joint by Jean Pierre Vernant help us understand Oedipus s downfall and the devious role chaos plays in the whole affair. Attempting to fight for order in the battle against chaos for authority, his actions serve as an expedient for the pandemonium that develops in his life meanwhile entrapping himself in an inescapable entanglement that he inadvertently inflicts upon himself. Chaos has the uncanny ability of slipping through the cracks of a city s firm foundation and poisoning the area. Disguised as a hero, Oedipus is welcomed as the king of Thebes and is endlessly praised for his gallantry and wisdom. Citizens view him as the savior who rescued them from the Sphinx s wrath, but unbeknownst to them and even Oedipus himself, he is the very pollution who causes all the ongoing chaos in the city. He vows to expose and penalize the murderer for the unjustified act of regicide to appease Apollo and lift the plague, yet when Teiresias accuses him of being the contamination, he repudiates the charge and blames Creon instead of accepting responsibility. His wisdom fails him even with evidence staring him in the face, and hubris blinds him to the painful truth that he killed his own blood. By slaughtering his father, he takes Laius s identity and transfers into the stage of an old man: But the moment he slips into old age... he becomes at best a man of words and of wise counsel, and at worst a pitiable wreck (Vernant, 167). Once Oedipus is unmasked as the perpetrator, they pity the broken man he becomes, but are disgusted by his vileness, and exile him to a lifetime of suffering protecting themselves from the fury of Apollo that Oedipus imposes upon them. Just as chaos can unconsciously invade a city, it can seep into the mind, the fragile thing. Quick to anger, Oedipus s actions only manages to provoke resentment he will learn to regret later on. In Angela Carter s The Bloody Chamber, there are several important themes and characteristics that help give the reader the ability to understand the actions of both the narrator and The Marquis, but sex and it s relation to power drives each character s actions and emotions. For the Marquis, he finds all the power in the relationship by exemplifying sadistic behavior, constantly mocking and ridiculing the narrator, and ultimately looking to find satisfaction in her pain and potential death.
