Ptsd Is A Whole Body Tragedy, An Integral Human Event Of...
A quote stated by Susan Pease Banitt once said, "PTSD is a whole–body tragedy, an integral human
event of enormous proportions with massive repercussions". Veterans returning from war should be
able to overcome post–traumatic stress disorder by going to health professionals or getting help with
counseling. What is PTSD? Post–traumatic stress disorder is a life–threatening exposure in which an
individual experiences a flashback to a traumatic event, such as war. Combat often substantially
affects the soldier's minds, but post–traumatic stress disorder can follow after a personal assault too
(Wiley, 875). Post–traumatic stress disorder develops in response to a traumatic event. About 60%
of men and 50% of women experience a traumatic event in their lifetime. For most people they will
have the symptoms of PTSD for about days or weeks after the event happened, but for others the
symptoms are way more sever and long lasting. The reasons on why some people develop this
disorder are still being studied though (Candy, 243). PTSD is more common in "at risk" groups than
as those serving in combat, but that doesn't mean that people that serve as combat are less likely to
get PTSD. At least 30% of men and women who served in Vietnam experience post–traumatic stress
disorder. PTSD begins usually after a traumatic event but it can also be delayed for many years.
Most of the symptoms can improve gradually after a year but for some the symptoms can last a
lifetime (Blow et. al. 266).

Lycidas Poem Analysis
The Crisis of Lycidas' Absent Body
"Lycidas" is a pastoral elegy in which the speaker, a shepherd, mourns the death of his friend
Lycidas, a fellow shepherd and talented poet, who had drowned at sea. However, as the poem
progresses, the figure of Lycidas fades into the background as the writing of the poem becomes
overwhelmed by the various crises that the speaker experiences and other poetic voices – those of
Phoebus and St. Peter, for instance – interrupt. The ninth verse paragraph of "Lycidas" marks the
poem's return to its elegiac intent as the speaker experiences another crisis in which he laments
Lycidas' absent body, a recurring element which, when addressed by the speaker directly, allows the
speaker to properly mourn and accept Lycidas' death.
The ninth verse paragraph begins with a plea, "Return, Alpheus" (132), Alpheus being a river in
Arcadia whose waters mix with the fountain Arethuse, referenced earlier in the poem to represent
Greek pastoral poetry. The speaker persuades Alpheus to return by stating that "the dread voice is
past" (132) the dread voice being St. Peter, who in the previous verse paragraph interrupted the
speaker's voice with a vicious condemnation of shepherds. The verse paragraph before was taken
over by Neptune's herald, and the one before by Phoebus. As the poem progresses, it begins to move
away from Lycidas to the point that the ninth verse paragraph is the first one since the fifth that
mentions Lycidas, or "Lycid" (151), by name. By calling on Alpheus and the "Sicilian Muse" (133),
the speaker recognizes that the elegy has veered from its original intent and he wishes to return to it.
The speaker first does this by invoking the "Sicilian Muse" to "call the vales" (134) to gather a
plants and flowers to adorn Lycidas' dead body. The speaker specifically calls for "primrose,"
"crowtoe," "jessamine," pansies, violets, "woodbine," "cowslips," "amaranthus," daffodils, and
laurels. (142–47,149–150)The laurels are significant as an emblem of poetry and its presence on
Lycidas' "hearse" (151) praises him for his poetry, but there is a sense of sadness and grief
embedded within the floral imagery. When the speaker mentions the "rathe primrose" (142), a
flower that blooms early

Media By Alex Brunstad, Body Shaming And Social Media
"Body shaming someone describes how mean the society can be to troll someone on their physical
appearance" (Jain). Body–shaming people affects their self–esteem. People think it is normal to
criticize the body of others because they are accustomed to do it every day, that sometimes they do
not even realize it. Society body shames others all the time, instead of helping them feel secure and
happy with their bodies. They want other people to look the way they want to be look at. Body
shaming is affecting people physically and mentally.
No doubt, when people express how they feel on social media about other's bodies, it can affect the
people they have on their social media. Because they can be going through the same thing as the
person they are describing. Alex Brunstad in "Body Shaming and Social Media", explains how she
feels about social media and that it actually affects her when someone talks about other people's
bodies. The author explains how she feels saying that "social media, originally a platform by which I
hoped to give and receive support from likeminded individuals, quickly became a toxic environment
for strengthening my relationship with my body". People that feel insecure about their body expect
that others would accept them on how they look and receive support on how they truly feel about
themselves. Since they already know how they look, they do not need a remainder.
Body shaming is even more difficult to people that feel insecure about their body every day. "In a
society that puts so much emphasis on body image and beauty, it is so easy to get caught up in self –
condemnation and body shaming" (Aceves). Society concentrates more on how the person looks
physically. Instead of, accepting them on how they are and concentrating on other things. For that
reason, people who feel offended thru others want to be accepted by them. They start to stop eating,
they become bulimic, anorexic or fall into depression. Just because they want to look at how society
wants them to look.
Therefore, to stop these bullies, people that are being body shamed need to stand up for themselves
and respond to the comments. For instance, if you are going to a family party and you know that
they tend to criticize your

Stand By Me, By Gordie Lachance
A movie whose plots consisted of four young boys who go on an adventure together to achieve
frame and fortune, but in the end achieved something much greater. This movie was known as
"Stand By Me," based on the novella "The Body" written by Gordie Lachance, whose main purpose
was to reveal the one journey in his childhood as a rite of passage. The movie follows the main
concept of the story where all the boys face obstacles and become more open towards one another. It
even portrays the main cast with the narrator expressing the events just like the novella when the
author expresses his feelings to the readers. The movie is different from the novella because the plot,
atmosphere, and title each act as a medium that produce the ... Show more content on

In the novella the author shows many scenes or memories of when he was a child, one particular
scene where he sees his brother, Dennis, in the closet bleeding out saying, "It should have been
you." On the other hand, the movie shows one scene where Gordie see his father say "It should have
been you" at the funeral of Dennis. Since the movie shows one of the two scene that greatly
influenced Gordie and his choices he made as a kid, it does not reveal how much Dennis's death had
impacted his life. Another scene that was changed was the scene of the night before they found Ray
Brower's body. In the novella the scene has the aura of horror with screaming woman from the
distance and everyone on edge. In the movie, they got the boys on edge, but there was no woman
screaming, only wolves howling to the moon. The movie created an entirely new atmosphere with it
shortening on scene and audio manipulation compared to the novella which showed how much the
author was affected and

Life : The Importance Of Life In The World
According to Webster's dictionary, life is "the quality that distinguishes a vital and functional being
from a dead body; a principle or force that is considered to underlie the distinctive quality of
animate beings."
Well that about says it all, right? After all, don't you consider yourself not to be a dead body? I know
I do. Can't I walk, breathe, think and eat? No dead body can do that. But I imagine that there is far
more to life than that. It all comes down to why are we here? Regardless of your religious beliefs,
you must have wondered about your place in the cosmos. How you got here is another topic. Why
you were given life is this topic.
It began in the womb. A life force entered your fetus and thus began your life. You emerged as a
baby with all that was required to begin your journey. Your environment, parents, and circumstance
controlled your future. Whether it began in a small African village or a mansion in New York, you
were placed and deposited into a life that you eventually could control. Free–will gave you the
ability to make decisions and move forward. Each choice determined your fate and what you would
become. Exterior events would shape and mold these turning points. But ultimately, you would die
and pass on to another place. These latter facts are unchangeable and cannot be denied.
So let's look at your life from several aspects. As you read this article, you are nodding in agreement
but are you comprehending what it means? What is your purpose on

William Faulkner 's `` A Rose For Emily ``
While authors like Edgar Allen Poe and Stephen King are known for their creepy writings, William
Faulkner has achieved a level of disturbing that is hardly reached in short stories. A Rose for Emily
is a story that shows how the insanity of one woman is able to shock an entire town, even in death.
When first reading A Rose for Emily, anyone can see how twisted Emily Grierson is. Not only for
the fact that she was sleeping in the same bed as a corpse, but because this was not the first time that
she had kept a dead body in her house. While her family does have a history of mental instability,
stating that, "remembering old lady Wyatt, her great–aunt, had gone completely crazy at last"
(section II), she is able to out do the impossible and create an aura of mystery that surrounds her
both during life and death. After reading this story, it makes the audience question not only the
reasoning that Emily has behind not only killing Homer, but keeping his body trapped in her house
up until she met death as well. It also brings to attention how much the townsfolk actually
influenced the progression of insanity that caused Emily and those around her, so much turmoil. For
example, if the townsfolk had not used Emily as a source of entertainment and gossip, would she
have stayed the recluse? While, the townsfolk are not to blame, it makes readers wonder: what if?
Another question that I had while reading this story is, who was the narrator? The narrator, whoever
they are, is able to

Flight By Sherman Alexie : A Cruel World Through The Eyes...
In the novel Flight by Sherman Alexie, we see a cruel world through the eyes of Zits. Zits is a young
half–Native American and half–American boy that for most of his life, never knew what it meant to
be a part of a family. Having his dad leave the day he was born and mother die of breast cancer
when he was six, Zits was placed in a foster care system at a very young age. When Zits was 15
years old, he shot up a bank, which then led to a series of unexplained events. After shooting the
bank, Zits seems to have traveled through time and other people's bodies. During Zits' supernatural
journey, Zits finds himself in different settings which force him to view what it means to kill from
different perspectives. As the setting changes throughout the novel, so does Zits' perspective on
taking a person's life. When Zits kills his first victims, Zits is convinced that the murder was
justified. He believed that the people in the bank had to die for a greater purpose. I can tell that Zits
genuinely thought that the murder was justified because some of Zits' final thoughts before he began
the killing spree were, "And I guess these people have many different religions. But none of that
matters. I know these people must die so my mother and father can return"(35). Zits obviously
believed that none of the lives he was about to take mattered. That they were all for a greater
purpose, to somehow bring back his mother from the dead and reunite with his father that left him at
birth. At this

Antigone: Absolute Power Corrupts Essay
"Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely," said Lord Acton generations ago. In the
Greek tragedy Antigone, written by Sophocles, there was a character named Kreon, the antagonist,
who was the king of Thebes. Thebes was an autocratic state where Kreon had absolute power.
Throughout the course of the play, Kreon abused his privilege of absolute power; and this caused
him to suffer greatly, even though he was warned by a few people of his bad deeds. What Sophocles
commented on absolute power was that one should not abuse it. If it was abused, he or she had to
expect bad consequences. This was indicated by what happened to Kreon when he abused his power.
Kreon settled a decree that prohibited anyone from burying Polyneices' ... Show more content on

any advice they gave him because that was what a good ruler should do. However, this was not how
he reacted when Kreon heard that somebody buried Polyneices' body. While he was talking to the
senate, a sentry came in and told Kreon that Polyneices' body had been buried. "'...somebody up and
buried the corpse and went off: sprinkled dust over it and did the ceremonies you're supposed to'"
(310–312). Kreon got very angry and threatened to kill the sentry if he didn't find the culprit who
had buried the body. Kreon thought that all of the sentries were bribed into not telling him who was
the culprit (372–391). Koryphaios suggested that the gods might have had buried the body: "'My
lord, we have been considering whether a god might not have done this'" (350–351). Just like a
dictator, as if he knew the actions of the gods, he declared that it was impossible for the gods to
honor (bury) criminals (363–364). He defied what Koryphaios had said and just declared that the
gods would never bury Polyneices, and he got his way. Before, Kreon had said that a good ruler like
himself would listen to people, but Kreon did not do that. He went against what he had said. This
showed that Kreon was very hypocritical, and he always only declared what he thought was right.
Some time passed, and the sentry came in the palace

Persuasive Essay On Donate Your Body
Donating your body to science can really make a big difference in the medical education. Some
people value their education just by donating themselves to the doctors, researchers and others. I
think that by doing that can really help other people that need anything from the body like an organ.
People even donate it to medicine to see if a treatment may work on it to test it out on other people
that are really sick. I believe that people should donate their bodies because it can make a difference
in the world. At the same time, it can be a bad thing because you do not have a saying in where your
body is going to go or in what branch of science your body will land, of course those programs will
cremate your body or just return you once they finish with using you and make a funeral without
paying a single dime but who would want that? Those are the small things on why people choose
not to do it.
Some people ask themselves, should I donate my body to science, I say, why not?
The human race often wonders about their options to place one's cadaver. In some religious beliefs
and traditions, this question is already answered for them. Others without a biblical fall back think,
what even happens to the condition of my body when I die?
They would start to assess things and look over their options. People have many sources and ways
of finding out how to plan for his or her death. Talking to an advocate for donating your body to
science would inform the person all the benefits to

Analysis Of Flight By Sherman Alexie
Throughout the novel Flight by Sherman Alexie, the main character Zits gradually changed his
thoughts about survival and killing one another. He has learned different lessons from each body
that he's gotten into, and every lessons mattered to his changes. Every individuals that he had
occupied the body, he'd gained the advantages to solve the situation in his own way. Indeed he
couldn't control fully the people's mind and actions, but he eventually could fight them to find back
the memory.
At the beginning of the book, he was ashamed of himself of "being fifteen years old. And being tall.
And skinny. And ugly" (Flight 4). He could not change the fact that he was half Irish and half
Indian, and maybe those characteristics came from his parents, or just his dad. He had serious acne
problems because everywhere on his body, pimples were scattered and ruining his looks. He'd been
observing from television regularly whenever he had a chance, but who knows that he could
remember all of the information that it gave, and described things in such a detail–oriented and
precise manner. The way he spoke was professional, but sometimes, he was talking as if he was
uneducated and abusive toward his listeners, like the way he talked to the social worker.

lived with his 13 different foster families. In the latest family, he was too stubborn to say good

Analysis Of The Body By Stephen King
In the short story, The Body, written by Stephen King, various life lessons are evident in the
adventure the four main characters have. The life lessons chosen by the author are reflective of life
lessons that could be learned by the reader, and life lessons that are not always vocalized. In Stephen
King's The Body, the group of young boys learn many different life lessons including family not
always being trustworthy, some things should be kept to yourself, and that friends, even best friends,
can split up. The main characters all have unique, yet abusive, relationships with their families. As
said in the introductory paragraph, this choice made by Stephen King was incredibly important and
wise to make because especially in the sixties, which is when the story takes place, it was a common
occurrence that was often overlooked. One of the most evident life lessons in the story was that
relatives should not get a free pass to hurt each other. The character Teddy's relationship with his
father was overlooked, exclusively by Teddy himself, "Teddy's dad took Teddy over to the big
woodstove at the back of the kitchen and shoved the side of Teddy's head down against one of the
cast–iron burner plates". Teddy had a lot of respect for the father for the soul reason that he is his
father. If it was not for the fact that Teddy's father messed him up physically and mentally for life,
Teddy would treat the person with a lot less respect and nobility. Despite that his father only

Hairtyle Definition
Proportion is the comparative relationship of one thing to another. A well–chosen hairstyle can
create the illusion of better proportion. It is essential when designing a hairstyle to take into account
the client's body shape and size. Challenges in body proportion become more obvious if the hair
form is too small or too large. A general guide for classic proportion is that the hair should not be
wider than the center of the shoulders, regardless of the body structure.
Proportion is also defined as any portion or part in relation to the whole. No one certain feature or
style produces beauty but rather the relationship or harmony created when all components come

Many have a side of the face that appears heavier. Many have one eye that is slightly smaller or one
flare of the nose that is slightly larger. And so, adaptability becomes the first design consideration.
During your client consultation, take the time to make notations of the asymmetry to the face. If we
design the hair towards the "low" side of the face, we will accentuate it. If we duplicate the head
form with either fullness or the lack thereof, we emphasize it. Feel the bones of the head and take
note of the growth patterns in the outer and inner perimeters. Remember that the outer perimeter
creates the strongest influence to the features. Be very careful about the hair that touches the face.
Will it point to an unflattering feature, such as a pointed nose? If there is a protrusion of the frontal
bone, the fringe area will lift and dry shorter than anticipated. We have found that working with two
mirrors is of tremendous benefit: one for the frontal view and one for the profile. Watch that you do
not accentuate a poor profile with an extension in that area. The mirrors will tell you things that the
eye cannot see directly. In addition, using a haircutting chair gives the best view of the back and
sides of the head because you are looking directly into them. If you are looking down at the hairline,
your vision is altered. (No, it is not for your feet; although that is a

The Role Of The Cadaver In Mary Roach'straff
Mary Roach's Stiff is on the human cadaver and their many uses throughout history. Roach begins
by visiting the University of California, and observes surgeons practicing surgeries on cadavers. The
donated cadavers are very important in the medical field, because without them, there would be no
realistic way to practice surgeries without actually performing them on live people. Roach then goes
into the history of the cadaver in the medical field. Many civilizations used dead bodies to learn
about human anatomy and practice medical procedures. England in the 17th and 18th century used
cadavers so often, that they had a shortage of them, leading to people snatching bodies from graves
to sell to medical schools and anatomists. Next, Roach flies to the University of Tennessee, where
they have an area with bodies decomposing all over the lawn. Researchers here observe the
processes after death, which begins with autolysis, where enzymes in the body break down cell
walls. Roach calls the next step "bloat," where the bacteria in bodies expel gas, but the body cannot
release it, making it swell. The final step is putrefaction or decay, where the body is eaten away by
the bacteria inside of it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Morbid Taste For Bones
"The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious." Stated Albert Einstein in his book
The World As I See It. If mystery is the best, then what is the best of mystery? In order for a mystery
to represent its genre well and for it to retain the interest of the readers, it must have the following
attributes. The crime must shock the readers and sufficiently outrage them to inspire a sense of the
need for justice in the reader and to spur them on to read through to the end. The criminal must be
attractively clever, deviously hidden, and irritatingly evasive. Finally, distracting conflicts must

ideas because of each one's abbreviated length and outstanding individuality, but G. K. Chesterton

exceedingly confusing, and throughout the book more complicating hints flocked to the scene, but
the only noticeable subplot in the entire book was quite minor: the longing love between Brother

Ontology: The Frames Of Ontology
3. The Frames of Ontology.
As we can see in the introduction of this essay, the ghosts has the status of having been and not
being in the same form anymore, it is a diachronic status. While the status of the ghostly identities is
synchronic, meaning this that this status of neither being nor not being takes place at the same time.
But where does these status come from? What are the mechanisms that establish and distribute these
status?. The frames of ontology can be seen as the mechanisms that dis–adjusts, that give this out–
of–jointness, to these phantasmagoric entities.
a) Temporal Frames
If the ghost is an unsolved past, how is it decided which events or entities belong to the past and not

By deconstructing this dichotomy, we would also be deconstructing the limits that divide the real
and the unreal. By questioning the ontology that ties together the threesome living–real–existing, we
could break the temporality and bring the phantasmagoric entities to a new kind of ontology. A
hauntolgy as Derrida would call it, an ontology that does take into account the presence of the
ghosts and specters.
In my opinion, this deconstruction of the dichotomy between what exists and what does not exist, is
necessary but not enough. In her book Frames of War, Butler differentiates what it is to apprehend a
life and what is to recognize a life as a life. In my opinion, if we stop after the deconstruction of the
dichotomy of ontology between what exists and what does not exist, we would be only
apprehending the fact that there are phantasmagoric entities within us. But that would not assure the
inclusion of these entities within the political

Comparing Richard Vs. Francocoise's Relationship Between...
The relationship between Richard and Francoise is quite different in the movie when compared to
the novel. In the novel, Richard likes and is attracted to Francoise but does not take it any further.
The first time he notices her physically he says, "I noticed Francoise. She was on the beach, walking
towards the water in a one–piece white swimsuit...As her arm lifted her swimsuit drew tightly over
her chest and shadows from the one o'clock sun defined her breasts, the dip under the ribcage, a
groove of muscle down her stomach (Garland 40)." There are many instances in the novel when
Richard and Francoise are together but do not engage in any physical relationship although it is
obvious both are attracted to each other. In the movie however, Richard and Francoise go for a dip
in the sea to see the glow in the night planktons and end up kissing and having sex. In the movie and
in the novel, however, Francoise is still in love with Etienne. Although she is attracted to Richard,
she still loves Etienne and Etienne on his part does not have a problem with the relationship between
Richard and Francoise. He is just happy for her. In the novel Richard is too stoned most of the time
to take his infatuation or attraction to the next level. The sexual tension between them continues
unlike in the movie.
Another difference between the novel and the movie is how the rice run is played out. Because the
character Jed is missing in the movie, it is Sal with whom Richard gets to go to the

The Consequences Of Revenge In Flight By Sherman Alexie
Do two wrongs ever make a right? Or as Zits contemplates in the novel Flight, "Is revenge a circle
inside a circle inside a circle?" (77). In Flight, written by Sherman Alexie, the main character, a
troubled Native American teenager named Zits, travels through time and different bodies while
learning about many different things that pertain to and can help him in his own life such as revenge,
trauma, violence, forgiveness, family, and betrayal. A scene in the middle of the novel where Zits is
in the body of a young boy at the Battle of the Little Bighorn reveals to the reader (and Zits) one of
the things that had the biggest effect on Zits–revenge. Zits sees in this scene how revenge in general,
and his personal revenge by shooting the people in the bank, just cause more pain as taking revenge
just leads to more revenge. Flight is a novel about a teenage Native American boy, named Zits
because of his face, gets moved around from foster home to foster home, "crashing" through each
one, and has closed his mind to the idea that some foster parents are trying to help him. Then, later
in the book, after he shoots thirty or so people in a bank, is transported through time and different
bodies, and learns how to turn his life around with the knowledge he acquires from what he sees and
does in these different bodies. In one especially striking scene, Zits has traveled into the body of a
young Indian boy at war. He wakes up in the middle of a large Indian camp. He then realizes that

Home In William Faulkner's A Rose For Emily
In William Faulkner's, A Rose for Emily, story was intense. The story was considered to be southern
gothic, not only because Emily is a troubled woman but because there is definitely something dark
and mysterious about her that nobody can quite understand. Emily was Mr. Grierson's daughter, they
were well known privileged people who were held on a pedestal. Mr. Grierson had done something
for his community therefor they felt that they owed him something. Her father was over protective
of his daughter, not sure if that is even the appropriate word to describe his actions, or why he would
deliberately sabotage his daughters relationships. He had full control over his daughters life. When
he passed away inside their home, it took Emily about three ... Show more content on

Faulkner's story could have gone many ways but it stayed focused in one place, which was told
through the yes from the townspeople or someone inside emily home. It was based off of
observations. Emily's elegant home was her safe place. It was the only places Emily spent majority
of the time in, apart from Sundays with Homer and that one time she went to purchase the arsenic. It
is where Emily was once a young gal when her father told all those men who wanted his daughter to
look elsewhere. It was all she knew, the Grierson's home is a representation of her life. body knew
what actually went on in that house, all they had was their vivid imagination. That home was
isolated for everyone and filled with curiosities nobody knew about. Just like Emily she was an
outsider, isolated from everyone and everything and nobody knew what went on in her head. All
they had were their speculations, just like the Grierson's home. In that home Emily grew old of age.
As much as the townspeople wanted to change that home, Emily refused. Just like her home, Emily
seemed old on the outside and that is all the people saw. Just as Faulkner said "When Miss Emily
Grierson died, our whole town went to her funeral: the men through a sort of respectful affection for
a fallen monument, the women mostly out of curiosity to see the inside of her house, which no one
save an old man–servant––a combined gardener and cook––had seen in at least ten years" (Faulkner
p.628). So when the townspeople finally got to go inside the Grierson home they finally saw how
demented Emily really was, and they no longer had to be curious or guess what was going on inside,
because it was all in the open now. Which is something it had not been not the house, nor Emily.
When Emily was living there were certain people in control and Emily did not pay taxes because
they felt that they owed her father something. Jefferson was changing things around, but Emily still

Analysis Of Seamus Heaney 's ' The Wind 's On Her Naked...
In lines one, two, and three of "Punishment," Seamus Heaney wrote "I can feel the tug; of the halter
at the nape; of the neck." These three lines of the poem must be read together to understand that
Heaney is basically describing how one is handcuffed and took to jail for committing a certain
crime. Heaney then in lines three and four wrote "the wind; on her naked front." These lines portray
that after one is in jail, they must then be ashamed in front of their peers for their action. This
humiliation would be in the form of a jury that would be determining if one is guilty or not guilty.
Heaney uses imagery in this stanza to help readers envision these events in a different light. For
example, in lines one through three, Heaney is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once again, Heaney created this stanza to provide information on the woman's body, but one starts
to realize that modern day punishment is just as harsh as primitive punishment, just in a different
form. At the end of the stanza, Heaney uses a period to show the changing of events. Here, he is
describing that once one is humiliated, they are then stripped of their life.
Stanza Three Stanza three starts to show that the crimes one commits also starts to fade them into
distant memories along with the others who create punishable acts. Seamus Heaney wrote in lines
one and two, "I can see her drowned; body in the bog." When read together, these lines start to show
that once one is stripped of their life, in jail, they are just another part of a lifeless society, and start
to fade into distant memory. Heaney uses imagery to describe a lifeless body in a bog, and this helps
one envision her mixed in with a crowd of prisoners and forgotten. Heaney in line three states "the
weighing stone." From this, one can infer that she was weighed down by the outside world, and that
her life has been hampered by her actions. In line four, Heaney wrote "the floating rods and
boughs." The imagery created here helps envision how one would walk around in a jail among all
the other prisoners just wasting their life away. Heaney created this stanza to describe a real body
that had been drowned for its crime (Fawbert, n.d.). This

While each ordinance had a particular punishment if not followed accordingly, all the ordinances in

knights, doctors of law, judges, and doctors of physics" (p.198). Their "bodies can be honoured by
their heirs at their burials in any way they please." (p. 198). They were exempted from following the
same ordinances as other habitants of Pistoia. Knights, lawyers, judges, and physicians were all held

physicians were considered the best choice in terms of medical practitioners in terms of treating
those affected by the plague . There were at the height of the social and professional ladder. Their

the drugs stocked by apothecaries". Physicians would work with officials to determine which

person–to–person (p. 148 Murphy). Because officials were part of the government, they could have
probably overthrown an ordinance and given university–trained physicians less "limitations". In

Essay on Shirow's Ghost in the Shell
Shirow's Ghost in the Shell
The real beauty of Mamoru Oshii's adaptation of Shirow's Ghost in the Shell lies in its attention to
detail and the sheer cohesiveness of these details which collectively form complex ideas and plot. In
nearly every detail and every plot element lies some tie to the key themes of the anime. Some of the
main themes deal with the commodification of the flesh and body; the separation between one's
spirit and body; and the idea that a static environment or organism a weak stronghold. Here I will
choose to focus on how through details the film explicates these themes, rather than spending time
extrapolating or explaining the themes in detail myself.
The first key scene to examine is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They had no ghosts, but their simple resemblance to people (they were a form of simulcra as they
wore our clothing in advertisement) made us attach some significance to them as entities.
On a related point (and often in that same scene), we see examples of the commodifcation of
people– their ghosts as well as their shells. From the beginning of the movie, one of the things that
becomes readily apparent is that Motoko is somewhat objectified in her repeated removal of
clothing to bare her thermoptic–camoflaged skin. In the manga, she WORE clothing to achieve this
effect. Even this creation of her as a sexual object seems to point to the commodification of the body
as spare parts put together, and resultant ownership by the creators of the body, rather than the
individuals who inhabit them. If the objectification of women is a state of separation of the women
and their bodies (and in fact the act of doing this a means of ownership by the male), then there is
really very little difference between Motoko as a sexual object and Motoko as property of the
government.
Further details which push forward the idea of the individual as a commodity occur at the climax
when Motoko asks 2501 why she was chosen, and the answer is that he saw something of himself in
her. That logic points to a sudden objectification and classification of even the ghosts, which are

Remedy Of Shallow Soul Research Paper
The Remedy for a Shallow Soul To cure a sickness, it is essential to carefully and accurately
diagnose the problem in order to receive the correct treatment. This is true for all diseases, whether
it be cancer, a simple cold, or even spiritual evils. Now that you are aware that it is the cancer of
shallowness that is attacking your soul, we can begin to remedy you. Being shallow communicates
that you have not advanced to the appropriate mindset necessary for your current stage of life. You
still cannot take any task or situation seriously and, in order to do so, it is mandatory to understand
why giving everything genuine thought is superior to an apathetic approach. The cure for this
disease is received in small servings and by means of self–discipline, meaning it will only succeed if
you have the willpower to endure it. Wanting to become less shallow is the first and most
mysterious portion of the cure. It cannot be taught, and few know the true appeal of becoming
different, deeper people. This occurred to me in the recent past and ... Show more content on

literature paper, you cannot simply copy another student's work or give it a half–hearted attempt, but
ponder the topic and consult reliable sources which give you ideas to compile into this paper. This is
an example of a serious issue, but there are some things in life which do not require as much
attention simply because they do not add as much to your soul. Playing video games or sports will
not edify your soul as much as writing a literature paper, church attendance, or Christian fellowship
do. Knowing when something adds a surer foundation to your soul will be accomplished in the next

If we are to have a healthy body, it is necessary to provide it with everything it needs. The way we
live and how we think about ourselves is also an important aspect of our wellbeing. The Golden
Rules for Healthy Life are a guideline for a well life.
Be moderate.( Do not eat too much. )
Do not skip breakfasts.
Never go out with an empty stomach.
Eat diverse and good quality foods.
Always compensate for lost fluid.
Respect the night 's rest.
You ought to be active.
Expose yourself to daylight and fresh air.
Cultivate the spirit of optimism and goodwill.
Why each of these rules is important?
Moderation means that we behave in a way not expose our bodies to extreme challenges, especially
not for a long time. For example, we should try to avoid many harmful substances that we consume
in our everyday lives, such as (coffee, alcohol, tobacco, preservatives, flavor enhancers).
Undoubtedly, it is useful to drink a glass of wine after a good meal, or eat a piece of chocolate when
you are depressed, but no more than that.
People who skip breakfast

Research Argument Rough Draft
The Subjectivity of Women to Modern Mass Media's Construed Views of Beauty and How Their
Effects on Body Image According to Medline Plus's medical dictionary, a portion of the National
Institute of Health's website for patients and their families and friends, "body image" is defined as "a
subjective picture of one 's own physical appearance established both by self–observation and by
noting the reactions of others." From the start, it is made obvious by such a definition that any
person's self–body image is sculptured partly by others' opinions and societal context. This, in turn,
supports that this is the basis for the majority of mass media's success; they ... Show more content

Despite the differing circumstances of these earlier time periods, the same unrealistic bodily ideals
that society expected of women then still exist today. Mass media emits mixed signals as to what's
"hot" and what's "not" with every advertisement they publicize. On one hand, companies advertise
emaciated supermodels through television, magazine advertisements, and the like, who are idolized
simply because they are skinny, as skinny has developed into one end of the "hot" spectrum of
modern–day America. There is a catch, however. More and more supermodels, like those who
model for Victoria's Secret for example, have thin bodies, muscle tone, and larger chests. Many
women have the tendency to idolize this figure and believe this is the way they should want to look
in order to be considered "sexy." Even the Barbie doll, for example, has unrealistic proportions that
are simply physiologically impossible for any woman to have. These ideals are far too irrational for
any woman to reach. On the other hand, more and more companies are making claims that larger,
plus–size women should also be viewed as "beautiful" or "sexy," in attempts to make those who are
larger than "normal" feel more comfortable in their own skins. Given these mixed images, women
are faced with unrealistic expectations every time they crack open a

None Of These Diseases By Mcmillen And Stern: Chapter...
The very first chapter of None of These Diseases, written by McMillen and Stern is very short. It
sets the stage to allow the reader to grasp the concept on how much medicine has changed over the
centuries. It is absurd to read what the doctors thought that they knew back 1500 B.C. It is also eye
opening to see how much medicine has advanced and keeps on advancing. One cannot help but
wonder what modern medicine will look like in a hundred years. It will be very interesting to see
what man thinks he knows today be completed changed. This chapters ends with discussion about
Moses preaching about God's health rules. It is interesting that while Moses was a well–educated
Egyptian, he did not write about the medical practices he learned at school, yet instead he discussed
what God has told him too. These practices have not been proven wrong today. Leprosy is a terrible
disease that brings about terrible suffering and death. People did not realize that it was contagious.

this solution could have been found within the Bible. Numbers 19:11 states, "Whoever touches any

persons to bathe and become cleaned. God gave strict direction on how to wash most effectively.

human anatomy. In the book Stiff: The Curious Lives Of Human Cadavers Mary Roach explores
what has happened to human cadavers from as far back as ancient Egypt. Mary Roach's introduction
is persuasive in nature, Roach is inclined to do something useful with corpses, "Why lie around on
your back when you can do something interesting and new, something useful" (Roach, 9). She
perceives that donating your body to science is much more helpful than a regular burial or

were already dead. They had died of natural causes and had been collected––from where is not

the ugly violent things that happen to a human being in a car crash." (Roach, 87). Roach covers

Water In Annie John
Water stands as a symbol representing a source of cleansing, purity, and life. Water usually
associates itself with the image of restoration. This means that water can help restore the
imperfections within a person. In the novel Annie John written by Jamaica Kincaid, water shows
how the relationship between Annie and her mother grows and changes throughout the novel. The
rainstorm, ocean saltwater, and bath water show some examples of the changes Annie and her
mother experience within the novel. The rainstorm represents the change that went happened on the

Annie depends on her mother to show her how to live life. An example of Annie's dependency on
her mother shows when she states "the only way I could reach the water was to climb and get on my
mother's back" (42). Annie cannot swim, but shows that she has a strong feeling of trusts towards
her mom because she ultimately sets her own life into her hands. Annie swam with her mom
because it helped strengthen her kidneys, but it also brought Annie and her mother closer together.
For example, Annie says "I could not wipe that feeling out of my mind, the feeling that I had when I
couldn't find her" (45). Annie grows up, and the older she gets, the more the bond between her and
her mom grow apart. Annie will never forget that day in the ocean when she could not find her
mother. That sense of loneliness has become the way Annie now feels when around her mother.
Annie figures out that she can do things independently now and does not need her mother's help.
Annie states that "I could not bear to have everyone else see how in disfavor I was towards my
mother" (46). The feeling Annie has now with her mother refers back to the feeling she had back in
the ocean. She feels as if her relationship has grown deeper and darker, and that it will keep

Cadavers Essay
Stiff This book was probably one of the most interesting yet disturbing book that I have ever read.
The process of getting cadavers to study has not only been extremely difficult throughout the years,
but it has also tested the morales of many people. Whether its stealing people from the grave, or
even hiring hit men to kill for you just so you can have a fresh body. In my paper I am going to talk
about the topics that really it me, and that I either found really intriguing or disturbing. With me

It stated early In this book how plastic surgeons have changed their way of doing surgeries because
of their studies on cadavers. I just find it fascinating that medical procedures like plastic surgery can
be perfected on a dead person. When Roach visited Wayne state university she witnessed how the
use of cadavers have enhanced the effectiveness of car safety. I greatly support the use of cadavers
for this research because a dummy can only go so far. Yeah it is a cadaver and it does not directly
correlate to a live person being that it does not react or "stiffen up" on impact, but it is the best
resource we have. The next controversial topic that I am going to discuss is the use of cadavers and
ballistic testing. I believe that using to cadaver for ballistic testing is a great idea. The idea of war is
not to necessarily kill people but it is to gain control. If we could create a bullet that not only
subdued the enemy but also cause less pain, I believe it would be worth using. In WWI the hollow
point bullet was banned from warfare due to the substantial damage that it caused to an individual,
so if there is a way that we can enhance the bullets we use now, I don't see why we cannot use
cadavers to help us find

Analysis Of Human Cadavers In Mary Roach's 'Stiff'
Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers: A Summary In Stiff, author Mary Roach examines
what happens to a person's body after they die. There are a variety of choices that an individual or
their family can make regarding their body. Although treatment of cadavers has greatly improved
over time, a lot of things take place after death. Roach sets out to discover some of the things that
may happen to cadavers, knowingly or unknowingly. Before there were laws and regulations to
protect the dead person and their family, cadavers were often stolen where there was a shortage.
These were stolen because medical students wanted to practice their skills, or because they were
needed to test some new product for safety. This was particularly

A Phenomenology Of Iris Marion Young's Throwing Like A Girl
This essay will explore the concept of feminine bodily comportment through the analysis of Iris
Marion Young's essay "Throwing Like a Girl: A Phenomenology of Feminine Body Comportment,
Motility and Spatiality". This essay starts with the concept of "feminine existence" that was
developed by Young followed by how it has become a restricted situation that women treat their
bodies as a burden. In the ensuing paragraphs, I will discuss how physical differences have been
internalized in women's mindset throughout the phenomenological approach. To be more specific,
physical differences will be described by women's mindset before they enter physical tasks and the
limited way women perform themselves. Moreover, the contradiction women experience will be
analysed through three modalities of feminine bodily comportment based on French philosopher
Merleau–Ponty's previous. Furthermore, I argue that women are taught to treat their bodies as
objects. And I will examine the linkage between feminine bodily comportment and women body
size. The limitation of my essay is that it is based on Western society. It might not be applied to the
rest of the world.
At first, in accordance with Beauvoir's previous women studies, Young discusses how physical
differences put women in a constrained situation that they think of their bodies as a burden.
However, Young argues that Beauvoir largely neglects the "situatedness" (2005, p. 29) of the
dilemma women experience before their movements, but rather

The Disturbing Story of Emily's Insanity and Death

  • 1. Ptsd Is A Whole Body Tragedy, An Integral Human Event Of... A quote stated by Susan Pease Banitt once said, "PTSD is a whole–body tragedy, an integral human event of enormous proportions with massive repercussions". Veterans returning from war should be able to overcome post–traumatic stress disorder by going to health professionals or getting help with counseling. What is PTSD? Post–traumatic stress disorder is a life–threatening exposure in which an individual experiences a flashback to a traumatic event, such as war. Combat often substantially affects the soldier's minds, but post–traumatic stress disorder can follow after a personal assault too (Wiley, 875). Post–traumatic stress disorder develops in response to a traumatic event. About 60% of men and 50% of women experience a traumatic event in their lifetime. For most people they will have the symptoms of PTSD for about days or weeks after the event happened, but for others the symptoms are way more sever and long lasting. The reasons on why some people develop this disorder are still being studied though (Candy, 243). PTSD is more common in "at risk" groups than as those serving in combat, but that doesn't mean that people that serve as combat are less likely to get PTSD. At least 30% of men and women who served in Vietnam experience post–traumatic stress disorder. PTSD begins usually after a traumatic event but it can also be delayed for many years. Most of the symptoms can improve gradually after a year but for some the symptoms can last a lifetime (Blow et. al. 266). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Lycidas Poem Analysis The Crisis of Lycidas' Absent Body "Lycidas" is a pastoral elegy in which the speaker, a shepherd, mourns the death of his friend Lycidas, a fellow shepherd and talented poet, who had drowned at sea. However, as the poem progresses, the figure of Lycidas fades into the background as the writing of the poem becomes overwhelmed by the various crises that the speaker experiences and other poetic voices – those of Phoebus and St. Peter, for instance – interrupt. The ninth verse paragraph of "Lycidas" marks the poem's return to its elegiac intent as the speaker experiences another crisis in which he laments Lycidas' absent body, a recurring element which, when addressed by the speaker directly, allows the speaker to properly mourn and accept Lycidas' death. The ninth verse paragraph begins with a plea, "Return, Alpheus" (132), Alpheus being a river in Arcadia whose waters mix with the fountain Arethuse, referenced earlier in the poem to represent Greek pastoral poetry. The speaker persuades Alpheus to return by stating that "the dread voice is past" (132) the dread voice being St. Peter, who in the previous verse paragraph interrupted the speaker's voice with a vicious condemnation of shepherds. The verse paragraph before was taken over by Neptune's herald, and the one before by Phoebus. As the poem progresses, it begins to move away from Lycidas to the point that the ninth verse paragraph is the first one since the fifth that mentions Lycidas, or "Lycid" (151), by name. By calling on Alpheus and the "Sicilian Muse" (133), the speaker recognizes that the elegy has veered from its original intent and he wishes to return to it. The speaker first does this by invoking the "Sicilian Muse" to "call the vales" (134) to gather a plants and flowers to adorn Lycidas' dead body. The speaker specifically calls for "primrose," "crowtoe," "jessamine," pansies, violets, "woodbine," "cowslips," "amaranthus," daffodils, and laurels. (142–47,149–150)The laurels are significant as an emblem of poetry and its presence on Lycidas' "hearse" (151) praises him for his poetry, but there is a sense of sadness and grief embedded within the floral imagery. When the speaker mentions the "rathe primrose" (142), a flower that blooms early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Media By Alex Brunstad, Body Shaming And Social Media "Body shaming someone describes how mean the society can be to troll someone on their physical appearance" (Jain). Body–shaming people affects their self–esteem. People think it is normal to criticize the body of others because they are accustomed to do it every day, that sometimes they do not even realize it. Society body shames others all the time, instead of helping them feel secure and happy with their bodies. They want other people to look the way they want to be look at. Body shaming is affecting people physically and mentally. No doubt, when people express how they feel on social media about other's bodies, it can affect the people they have on their social media. Because they can be going through the same thing as the person they are describing. Alex Brunstad in "Body Shaming and Social Media", explains how she feels about social media and that it actually affects her when someone talks about other people's bodies. The author explains how she feels saying that "social media, originally a platform by which I hoped to give and receive support from likeminded individuals, quickly became a toxic environment for strengthening my relationship with my body". People that feel insecure about their body expect that others would accept them on how they look and receive support on how they truly feel about themselves. Since they already know how they look, they do not need a remainder. Body shaming is even more difficult to people that feel insecure about their body every day. "In a society that puts so much emphasis on body image and beauty, it is so easy to get caught up in self – condemnation and body shaming" (Aceves). Society concentrates more on how the person looks physically. Instead of, accepting them on how they are and concentrating on other things. For that reason, people who feel offended thru others want to be accepted by them. They start to stop eating, they become bulimic, anorexic or fall into depression. Just because they want to look at how society wants them to look. Therefore, to stop these bullies, people that are being body shamed need to stand up for themselves and respond to the comments. For instance, if you are going to a family party and you know that they tend to criticize your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Stand By Me, By Gordie Lachance A movie whose plots consisted of four young boys who go on an adventure together to achieve frame and fortune, but in the end achieved something much greater. This movie was known as "Stand By Me," based on the novella "The Body" written by Gordie Lachance, whose main purpose was to reveal the one journey in his childhood as a rite of passage. The movie follows the main concept of the story where all the boys face obstacles and become more open towards one another. It even portrays the main cast with the narrator expressing the events just like the novella when the author expresses his feelings to the readers. The movie is different from the novella because the plot, atmosphere, and title each act as a medium that produce the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the novella the author shows many scenes or memories of when he was a child, one particular scene where he sees his brother, Dennis, in the closet bleeding out saying, "It should have been you." On the other hand, the movie shows one scene where Gordie see his father say "It should have been you" at the funeral of Dennis. Since the movie shows one of the two scene that greatly influenced Gordie and his choices he made as a kid, it does not reveal how much Dennis's death had impacted his life. Another scene that was changed was the scene of the night before they found Ray Brower's body. In the novella the scene has the aura of horror with screaming woman from the distance and everyone on edge. In the movie, they got the boys on edge, but there was no woman screaming, only wolves howling to the moon. The movie created an entirely new atmosphere with it shortening on scene and audio manipulation compared to the novella which showed how much the author was affected and ... • 9. Life : The Importance Of Life In The World According to Webster's dictionary, life is "the quality that distinguishes a vital and functional being from a dead body; a principle or force that is considered to underlie the distinctive quality of animate beings." Well that about says it all, right? After all, don't you consider yourself not to be a dead body? I know I do. Can't I walk, breathe, think and eat? No dead body can do that. But I imagine that there is far more to life than that. It all comes down to why are we here? Regardless of your religious beliefs, you must have wondered about your place in the cosmos. How you got here is another topic. Why you were given life is this topic. It began in the womb. A life force entered your fetus and thus began your life. You emerged as a baby with all that was required to begin your journey. Your environment, parents, and circumstance controlled your future. Whether it began in a small African village or a mansion in New York, you were placed and deposited into a life that you eventually could control. Free–will gave you the ability to make decisions and move forward. Each choice determined your fate and what you would become. Exterior events would shape and mold these turning points. But ultimately, you would die and pass on to another place. These latter facts are unchangeable and cannot be denied. So let's look at your life from several aspects. As you read this article, you are nodding in agreement but are you comprehending what it means? What is your purpose on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. William Faulkner 's `` A Rose For Emily `` While authors like Edgar Allen Poe and Stephen King are known for their creepy writings, William Faulkner has achieved a level of disturbing that is hardly reached in short stories. A Rose for Emily is a story that shows how the insanity of one woman is able to shock an entire town, even in death. When first reading A Rose for Emily, anyone can see how twisted Emily Grierson is. Not only for the fact that she was sleeping in the same bed as a corpse, but because this was not the first time that she had kept a dead body in her house. While her family does have a history of mental instability, stating that, "remembering old lady Wyatt, her great–aunt, had gone completely crazy at last" (section II), she is able to out do the impossible and create an aura of mystery that surrounds her both during life and death. After reading this story, it makes the audience question not only the reasoning that Emily has behind not only killing Homer, but keeping his body trapped in her house up until she met death as well. It also brings to attention how much the townsfolk actually influenced the progression of insanity that caused Emily and those around her, so much turmoil. For example, if the townsfolk had not used Emily as a source of entertainment and gossip, would she have stayed the recluse? While, the townsfolk are not to blame, it makes readers wonder: what if? Another question that I had while reading this story is, who was the narrator? The narrator, whoever they are, is able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Flight By Sherman Alexie : A Cruel World Through The Eyes... In the novel Flight by Sherman Alexie, we see a cruel world through the eyes of Zits. Zits is a young half–Native American and half–American boy that for most of his life, never knew what it meant to be a part of a family. Having his dad leave the day he was born and mother die of breast cancer when he was six, Zits was placed in a foster care system at a very young age. When Zits was 15 years old, he shot up a bank, which then led to a series of unexplained events. After shooting the bank, Zits seems to have traveled through time and other people's bodies. During Zits' supernatural journey, Zits finds himself in different settings which force him to view what it means to kill from different perspectives. As the setting changes throughout the novel, so does Zits' perspective on taking a person's life. When Zits kills his first victims, Zits is convinced that the murder was justified. He believed that the people in the bank had to die for a greater purpose. I can tell that Zits genuinely thought that the murder was justified because some of Zits' final thoughts before he began the killing spree were, "And I guess these people have many different religions. • 15. Antigone: Absolute Power Corrupts Essay "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely," said Lord Acton generations ago. In the Greek tragedy Antigone, written by Sophocles, there was a character named Kreon, the antagonist, who was the king of Thebes. Thebes was an autocratic state where Kreon had absolute power. Throughout the course of the play, Kreon abused his privilege of absolute power; and this caused him to suffer greatly, even though he was warned by a few people of his bad deeds. What Sophocles commented on absolute power was that one should not abuse it. If it was abused, he or she had to expect bad consequences. This was indicated by what happened to Kreon when he abused his power. Kreon settled a decree that prohibited anyone from burying Polyneices' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this was not how he reacted when Kreon heard that somebody buried Polyneices' body. While he was talking to the senate, a sentry came in and told Kreon that Polyneices' body had been buried. "'...somebody up and buried the corpse and went off: sprinkled dust over it and did the ceremonies you're supposed to'" (310–312). Kreon got very angry and threatened to kill the sentry if he didn't find the culprit who had buried the body. Kreon thought that all of the sentries were bribed into not telling him who was the culprit (372–391). Koryphaios suggested that the gods might have had buried the body: "'My lord, we have been considering whether a god might not have done this'" (350–351). Just like a dictator, as if he knew the actions of the gods, he declared that it was impossible for the gods to honor (bury) criminals (363–364). He defied what Koryphaios had said and just declared that the gods would never bury Polyneices, and he got his way. Before, Kreon had said that a good ruler like himself would listen to people, but Kreon did not do that. He went against what he had said. This showed that Kreon was very hypocritical, and he always only declared what he thought was right. Some time passed, and the sentry came in the palace ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Persuasive Essay On Donate Your Body Donating your body to science can really make a big difference in the medical education. Some people value their education just by donating themselves to the doctors, researchers and others. I think that by doing that can really help other people that need anything from the body like an organ. People even donate it to medicine to see if a treatment may work on it to test it out on other people that are really sick. I believe that people should donate their bodies because it can make a difference in the world. At the same time, it can be a bad thing because you do not have a saying in where your body is going to go or in what branch of science your body will land, of course those programs will cremate your body or just return you once they finish with using you and make a funeral without paying a single dime but who would want that? Those are the small things on why people choose not to do it. Some people ask themselves, should I donate my body to science, I say, why not? The human race often wonders about their options to place one's cadaver. In some religious beliefs and traditions, this question is already answered for them. Others without a biblical fall back think, what even happens to the condition of my body when I die? They would start to assess things and look over their options. Every individuals that he had occupied the body, he'd gained the advantages to solve the situation in his own way. • 25. Analysis Of The Body By Stephen King In the short story, The Body, written by Stephen King, various life lessons are evident in the adventure the four main characters have. The life lessons chosen by the author are reflective of life lessons that could be learned by the reader, and life lessons that are not always vocalized. In Stephen King's The Body, the group of young boys learn many different life lessons including family not always being trustworthy, some things should be kept to yourself, and that friends, even best friends, can split up. The main characters all have unique, yet abusive, relationships with their families. As said in the introductory paragraph, this choice made by Stephen King was incredibly important and wise to make because especially in the sixties, which is when the story takes place, it was a common occurrence that was often overlooked. One of the most evident life lessons in the story was that relatives should not get a free pass to hurt each other. The character Teddy's relationship with his father was overlooked, exclusively by Teddy himself, "Teddy's dad took Teddy over to the big woodstove at the back of the kitchen and shoved the side of Teddy's head down against one of the cast–iron burner plates". Teddy had a lot of respect for the father for the soul reason that he is his father. If it was not for the fact that Teddy's father messed him up physically and mentally for life, Teddy would treat the person with a lot less respect and nobility. Despite that his father only ... It is essential when designing a hairstyle to take into account the client's body shape and size. Challenges in body proportion become more obvious if the hair form is too small or too large. A general guide for classic proportion is that the hair should not be wider than the center of the shoulders, regardless of the body structure. Proportion is also defined as any portion or part in relation to the whole. Many have one eye that is slightly smaller or one flare of the nose that is slightly larger. And so, adaptability becomes the first design consideration. During your client consultation, take the time to make notations of the asymmetry to the face. If we design the hair towards the "low" side of the face, we will accentuate it. If we duplicate the head form with either fullness or the lack thereof, we emphasize it. Feel the bones of the head and take note of the growth patterns in the outer and inner perimeters. Remember that the outer perimeter creates the strongest influence to the features. Be very careful about the hair that touches the face. Will it point to an unflattering feature, such as a pointed nose? If there is a protrusion of the frontal bone, the fringe area will lift and dry shorter than anticipated. We have found that working with two mirrors is of tremendous benefit: one for the frontal view and one for the profile. Watch that you do not accentuate a poor profile with an extension in that area. The mirrors will tell you things that the eye cannot see directly. • 34. The Role Of The Cadaver In Mary Roach'straff Mary Roach's Stiff is on the human cadaver and their many uses throughout history. Roach begins by visiting the University of California, and observes surgeons practicing surgeries on cadavers. The donated cadavers are very important in the medical field, because without them, there would be no realistic way to practice surgeries without actually performing them on live people. Roach then goes into the history of the cadaver in the medical field. Many civilizations used dead bodies to learn about human anatomy and practice medical procedures. England in the 17th and 18th century used cadavers so often, that they had a shortage of them, leading to people snatching bodies from graves to sell to medical schools and anatomists. Next, Roach flies to the University of Tennessee, where they have an area with bodies decomposing all over the lawn. Researchers here observe the processes after death, which begins with autolysis, where enzymes in the body break down cell walls. If mystery is the best, then what is the best of mystery? In order for a mystery to represent its genre well and for it to retain the interest of the readers, it must have the following attributes. The crime must shock the readers and sufficiently outrage them to inspire a sense of the need for justice in the reader and to spur them on to read through to the end. As we can see in the introduction of this essay, the ghosts has the status of having been and not being in the same form anymore, it is a diachronic status. While the status of the ghostly identities is synchronic, meaning this that this status of neither being nor not being takes place at the same time. But where does these status come from? What are the mechanisms that establish and distribute these status?. The frames of ontology can be seen as the mechanisms that dis–adjusts, that give this out– of–jointness, to these phantasmagoric entities. a) Temporal Frames If the ghost is an unsolved past, how is it decided which events or entities belong to the past and not to the present? A hauntolgy as Derrida would call it, an ontology that does take into account the presence of the ghosts and specters. In my opinion, this deconstruction of the dichotomy between what exists and what does not exist, is necessary but not enough. In Flight, written by Sherman Alexie, the main character, a troubled Native American teenager named Zits, travels through time and different bodies while learning about many different things that pertain to and can help him in his own life such as revenge, trauma, violence, forgiveness, family, and betrayal. A scene in the middle of the novel where Zits is in the body of a young boy at the Battle of the Little Bighorn reveals to the reader (and Zits) one of the things that had the biggest effect on Zits–revenge. Zits sees in this scene how revenge in general, and his personal revenge by shooting the people in the bank, just cause more pain as taking revenge just leads to more revenge. Flight is a novel about a teenage Native American boy, named Zits because of his face, gets moved around from foster home to foster home, "crashing" through each one, and has closed his mind to the idea that some foster parents are trying to help him. Mr. Grierson had done something for his community therefor they felt that they owed him something. It is where Emily was once a young gal when her father told all those men who wanted his daughter to look elsewhere. It was all she knew, the Grierson's home is a representation of her life. body knew what actually went on in that house, all they had was their vivid imagination. That home was isolated for everyone and filled with curiosities nobody knew about. Just like Emily she was an outsider, isolated from everyone and everything and nobody knew what went on in her head. All they had were their speculations, just like the Grierson's home. In that home Emily grew old of age. As much as the townspeople wanted to change that home, Emily refused. Just like her home, Emily seemed old on the outside and that is all the people saw. So when the townspeople finally got to go inside the Grierson home they finally saw how demented Emily really was, and they no longer had to be curious or guess what was going on inside, because it was all in the open now. Essay on Shirow's Ghost in the Shell Shirow's Ghost in the Shell The real beauty of Mamoru Oshii's adaptation of Shirow's Ghost in the Shell lies in its attention to detail and the sheer cohesiveness of these details which collectively form complex ideas and plot. In nearly every detail and every plot element lies some tie to the key themes of the anime. Some of the main themes deal with the commodification of the flesh and body; the separation between one's spirit and body; and the idea that a static environment or organism a weak stronghold. Here I will choose to focus on how through details the film explicates these themes, rather than spending time extrapolating or explaining the themes in detail myself. The first key scene to examine is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They had no ghosts, but their simple resemblance to people (they were a form of simulcra as they wore our clothing in advertisement) made us attach some significance to them as entities. On a related point (and often in that same scene), we see examples of the commodifcation of people– their ghosts as well as their shells. From the beginning of the movie, one of the things that becomes readily apparent is that Motoko is somewhat objectified in her repeated removal of clothing to bare her thermoptic–camoflaged skin. In the manga, she WORE clothing to achieve this effect. Even this creation of her as a sexual object seems to point to the commodification of the body as spare parts put together, and resultant ownership by the creators of the body, rather than the individuals who inhabit them. If the objectification of women is a state of separation of the women and their bodies (and in fact the act of doing this a means of ownership by the male), then there is really very little difference between Motoko as a sexual object and Motoko as property of the government. Further details which push forward the idea of the individual as a commodity occur at the climax

  • 61. Remedy Of Shallow Soul Research Paper The Remedy for a Shallow Soul To cure a sickness, it is essential to carefully and accurately diagnose the problem in order to receive the correct treatment. This is true for all diseases, whether it be cancer, a simple cold, or even spiritual evils. Now that you are aware that it is the cancer of shallowness that is attacking your soul, we can begin to remedy you. Being shallow communicates that you have not advanced to the appropriate mindset necessary for your current stage of life. You still cannot take any task or situation seriously and, in order to do so, it is mandatory to understand why giving everything genuine thought is superior to an apathetic approach. The cure for this disease is received in small servings and by means of self–discipline, meaning it will only succeed if you have the willpower to endure it. Wanting to become less shallow is the first and most mysterious portion of the cure. It cannot be taught, and few know the true appeal of becoming different, deeper people. Mary–Cate Grimes Diller ENG 102 Spring 2013 Research Argument Rough Draft The Subjectivity of Women to Modern Mass Media's Construed Views of Beauty and How Their Effects on Body Image According to Medline Plus's medical dictionary, a portion of the National Institute of Health's website for patients and their families and friends, "body image" is defined as "a subjective picture of one 's own physical appearance established both by self–observation and by noting the reactions of others." Despite the differing circumstances of these earlier time periods, the same unrealistic bodily ideals that society expected of women then still exist today. Mass media emits mixed signals as to what's "hot" and what's "not" with every advertisement they publicize. On one hand, companies advertise emaciated supermodels through television, magazine advertisements, and the like, who are idolized simply because they are skinny, as skinny has developed into one end of the "hot" spectrum of modern–day America. There is a catch, however. More and more supermodels, like those who model for Victoria's Secret for example, have thin bodies, muscle tone, and larger chests. Many women have the tendency to idolize this figure and believe this is the way they should want to look in order to be considered "sexy." Even the Barbie doll, for example, has unrealistic proportions that are simply physiologically impossible for any woman to have. These ideals are far too irrational for any woman to reach. On the other hand, more and more companies are making claims that larger, plus–size women should also be viewed as "beautiful" or "sexy," in attempts to make those who are larger than "normal" feel more comfortable in their own skins. Given these mixed images, women are faced with unrealistic expectations every time they crack open a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It sets the stage to allow the reader to grasp the concept on how much medicine has changed over the centuries. It is absurd to read what the doctors thought that they knew back 1500 B.C. It is also eye opening to see how much medicine has advanced and keeps on advancing. One cannot help but wonder what modern medicine will look like in a hundred years. It will be very interesting to see what man thinks he knows today be completed changed. This chapters ends with discussion about Moses preaching about God's health rules. It is interesting that while Moses was a well–educated Egyptian, he did not write about the medical practices he learned at school, yet instead he discussed what God has told him too. These practices have not been proven wrong today. Leprosy is a terrible disease that brings about terrible suffering and death. People did not realize that it was contagious. Numbers 19:11 states, "Whoever touches any dead body will be off limits for seven days." This is the cleansing period, which allowed such persons to bathe and become cleaned. God gave strict direction on how to wash most effectively. Moses came from a time era where dead bodies were mummified. In the book Stiff: The Curious Lives Of Human Cadavers Mary Roach explores what has happened to human cadavers from as far back as ancient Egypt. Mary Roach's introduction is persuasive in nature, Roach is inclined to do something useful with corpses, "Why lie around on your back when you can do something interesting and new, something useful" (Roach, 9). She perceives that donating your body to science is much more helpful than a regular burial or cremation, "To me, ending up an exhibit in the Mutter Museum or a skeleton in a medical school ... That they were naked and unarmed was the less distinctive thing about them. More distinctive was that they were already dead. They had died of natural causes and had been collected––from where is not revealed–– as subjects in an Army Ordnance Department experiment." (Roach, 131). Cadavers have also been useful in car safety, "Over the past sixty years, the dead have helped the living work out human tolerance limits for skull slammings chest skewerings, knee crammings and gut mashings: all the ugly violent things that happen to a human being in a car crash." (Roach, 87). Roach covers many things that have happened and that will happen to a person's body once the person has passed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This means that water can help restore the imperfections within a person. In the novel Annie John written by Jamaica Kincaid, water shows how the relationship between Annie and her mother grows and changes throughout the novel. The rainstorm, ocean saltwater, and bath water show some examples of the changes Annie and her mother experience within the novel. Annie cannot swim, but shows that she has a strong feeling of trusts towards her mom because she ultimately sets her own life into her hands. Annie swam with her mom because it helped strengthen her kidneys, but it also brought Annie and her mother closer together. For example, Annie says "I could not wipe that feeling out of my mind, the feeling that I had when I couldn't find her" (45). Annie grows up, and the older she gets, the more the bond between her and her mom grow apart. Annie will never forget that day in the ocean when she could not find her mother. That sense of loneliness has become the way Annie now feels when around her mother. Annie figures out that she can do things independently now and does not need her mother's help. Annie states that "I could not bear to have everyone else see how in disfavor I was towards my mother" (46). • 75. Cadavers Essay Stiff This book was probably one of the most interesting yet disturbing book that I have ever read. The process of getting cadavers to study has not only been extremely difficult throughout the years, but it has also tested the morales of many people. Whether its stealing people from the grave, or even hiring hit men to kill for you just so you can have a fresh body. In my paper I am going to talk about the topics that really it me, and that I either found really intriguing or disturbing. With me going into the medical field, even as a physical therapist, I know that I will have to deal with cadavers, even if it is just this year in anatomy and in grad school. One of the parts that I found most interesting about this book was the different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It stated early In this book how plastic surgeons have changed their way of doing surgeries because of their studies on cadavers. I just find it fascinating that medical procedures like plastic surgery can be perfected on a dead person. When Roach visited Wayne state university she witnessed how the use of cadavers have enhanced the effectiveness of car safety. I greatly support the use of cadavers for this research because a dummy can only go so far. Yeah it is a cadaver and it does not directly correlate to a live person being that it does not react or "stiffen up" on impact, but it is the best resource we have. The next controversial topic that I am going to discuss is the use of cadavers and ballistic testing. I believe that using to cadaver for ballistic testing is a great idea. The idea of war is not to necessarily kill people but it is to gain control. If we could create a bullet that not only subdued the enemy but also cause less pain, I believe it would be worth using. In WWI the hollow point bullet was banned from warfare due to the substantial damage that it caused to an individual, so if there is a way that we can enhance the bullets we use now, I don't see why we cannot use cadavers to help us find ... • 79. A Phenomenology Of Iris Marion Young's Throwing Like A Girl This essay will explore the concept of feminine bodily comportment through the analysis of Iris Marion Young's essay "Throwing Like a Girl: A Phenomenology of Feminine Body Comportment, Motility and Spatiality". This essay starts with the concept of "feminine existence" that was developed by Young followed by how it has become a restricted situation that women treat their bodies as a burden. In the ensuing paragraphs, I will discuss how physical differences have been internalized in women's mindset throughout the phenomenological approach. To be more specific, physical differences will be described by women's mindset before they enter physical tasks and the limited way women perform themselves. Moreover, the contradiction women experience will be analysed through three modalities of feminine bodily comportment based on French philosopher Merleau–Ponty's previous. Furthermore, I argue that women are taught to treat their bodies as objects. And I will examine the linkage between feminine bodily comportment and women body size. The limitation of my essay is that it is based on Western society. It might not be applied to the rest of the world. At first, in accordance with Beauvoir's previous women studies, Young discusses how physical differences put women in a constrained situation that they think of their bodies as a burden. However, Young argues that Beauvoir largely neglects the "situatedness" (2005, p. 29) of the dilemma women experience before their movements, but rather ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
