Salmonella Research Paper
INTRODUCTION
Salmonellosis is a disease caused by the bacteria salmonella. Characterised usually by acute onset of
fever, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, nausea and sometimes vomiting. Onset of disease symptoms occurs
6 72 hours (usually 12 36 hours) after ingestion of salmonella, and illness lasts 2 7 days. Symptoms of
salmonellosis are relatively mild and patients will make a recovery without specific treatment in most
cases (WHO). Salmonella being a foodborne illness pathogen causes severe debilitating infections
including meningitis.
HAZARD IDENTIFICATION:
THE ORGANISM
The group of organism comprises two species:
Salmonella enterica, which is divided into 6 subspecies: (enterica, salamae, arizonae, diarizonae,
houtanae and indica), and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examination of foods implicated in foodborne illness, UK 1999 2009)
Prevention, Interventions and Health Promotion
Prevention requires control measures at all stages of the food chain, from agricultural production, to
processing, manufacturing and preparation of foods in both commercial establishments and at home.
Ensuring food is properly cooked and still hot when served. Washing hands thoroughly and frequently
using soap, in particular after contact with pets or farm animals, or after having been to the toilet
(WHO). Both professional and domestic food handlers to be vigilant while preparing food and
observing hygienic rules of food preparation. Protecting fields from animal faecal contamination.
Poultry Vaccination to be carried out and thorough reheating of food.
However, having a grasp of the burden of a disease would imply integrating the different health effects
of foodborne illnesses such as short and long term complication and their impact on daily life and
mortality. A public health indicator which combines the effects of morbidity and mortality is the
disability adjusted life years (DALYs) as previously demonstrated in the WHO Global Burden of
Disease study (Murray and Lopez, 1997a,

Genital Slang Names
Genital Slang Names
Identify one theme (a common characteristic) among the names used for male genitalia, and identify
one theme and the names used for female genitalia. Explain why you believe each theme has emerged.
When it comes to the male and female genitalia, people never use the proper terminology. When
parents are faced with questions from children they would rather avoid the awkwardness and come up
with pet names. With young adults, trying to fit in is the top of their list, so using slang for the genitals
is considered cool. It is emphasized especially in our culture/media, that using slang for their genitals
is cool, that by using the proper terms vagina and penis you are labeled as awkward, rigid and very
clinical. One common theme among the slangs used for male genitalia is often a dangerous weapon
holding super powers. These themes have emerged because throughout history the male sex has ...

Do you think the slang terms produced in the list are in any way product of sexism towards either
males or females? This list definitely embodies sexism towards both males and females. On the male
side, chauvinistic, masculine qualities are being described while the female s list of words are
portrayed more as property and innocent, cute and even mysterious objects. Obviously these slangs
are all stereotypes of the male and female genitalia. They are what the culture expect of us and
pressurizes individuals to be and have. For example, the word pussy is a commonly used slang for
vagina. It used to mean cat or coward but somehow our culture associated this word that was used to
describe something so gentle like a cat and someone who is weak and a coward and relate it to a
women s private parts. Why don t we use anything that s more aggressive and strong to describe a
women s vagina when physically a vagina can handle more physical labor (pain) then a penis! By
usually the word pussy we are regressing and giving private parts negative

Dark Imagery In Wise Blood By Flannery O Connor
Through the use of the dark imagery and the Essex, religious symbolism in Wise Blood appears again
and again to prove that the longings of the heart cannot be found in the world. O Connor uses darkness
to delve into certain aspects of each character. She depicts Taulkinham as a grim place. When the main
character, Haze, begins his new life in this new town, it is depicted to have a black sky, he soon sees a
man with a black suit and a black hat... accompanies a girl with her black dress and black knitted cap...
(O Connor 35). Not only does this act as a haunting description of setting, but these dark details can
act as bold and bright red flags, for these characters dressed in black and this depressing town looming
with destruction. She continues to describe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The darkness in Hazel s eyes at the end of the novel is comforting and symbolizes salvation (Brown).
The darkness that Enoch runs into, and is wearing, symbolizes alienation and friendship. TOne of the
few female characters presented is a young lady named Sabbath and her blind father Asa. The eyes of
Asa, and his daughter s weird sexual fetish with Hazel, represent the symbol of innocence, ultimate
demise, and hopelessness. She uses the symbol of darkness throughout the novel as a recurring object
to justify salvation, alienation, friendship, blindness, and redemption. The darkness symbolizes the
redemption. Ultimate salvation that is supposedly coming to Hazel. The color of the suit is black;
therefore, the darkness, embedded in the suit, symbolizes his salvation and redemption throughout the
novel. He wears it and it wears him. It is inescapable. The blind theme of the novel has nothing to do
with human eyes. It has to do with the fact that the characters have all blinded themselves; they have
shut their eyes to the truth of Christ (Brown). Blindness is not something to envy and is no less than a
handicap, but it s an easy out from the truth of

The Judenfrage
During the War the Judenfrage:
In June 1939 the Nuremberg Laws came into force in the Protectorate, which limited the freedom of
the Jewish people.
Consequently, Jews roughly 1.2% of the pre war Czech Moravian population lost their civil rights,
estates, professions and access to the labour market. Marriages between Jews and Gentiles were
forbidden.
In order to rend a solution for the Judenfrage (issue of the Jews) first deportations to concentration
camps took place in October 1939.
Judenfrage is a term used in Europa since the 18th to describe problems caused by the growing
emancipation and power of the Jewry. National socialists made this term well known by viewing the
Jewish minorities as obstacles in the way of the general

Being A Sixth Grade Mean Girl
On Being a Sixth Grade Mean Girl Squeals pierce my eardrums as little girls talk about loving their
boyfriends. The overbearing scent of Axe radiates off of every arrogant schoolboy who gallivants
across the grounds and stops at my locker. Gossip flutters around me, seducing me into its inescapable
vice. Such was Memorial Middle School when I first debuted in August, 2011. Going into sixth grade,
I was the most popular girl in school. Although I may have had ebony hair and bubblegum lips, there
was no hiding the ugliness of who I was: the meanest girl in school. I hadn t always been that girl; for
two years I was the opposite, a victim of excruciating cruelty. In third grade, I was placed into the

I loved to read, so I was a nerd; I used words they couldn t understand, so I was a freak. Soon enough,
I started to believe them; by the conclusion of fourth grade, I felt worthless. When I learned that I
would be transferring schools, I saw redemption. That summer, I exchanged novels for magazines; I
went on extreme diets to lose weight as if cutting pounds could cut the memories of abuse from my
head. Going into fifth grade, I found myself googling How to be Normal in an attempt to abandon my
identity; fifteen pounds and a miniskirt later, I had all but done so. By maintaining a facade of
normalcy , I became instantly popular, and I gained influence that I had never thought possible. Girls
looked to me for advice on everything from boys to hairstyles, and I reveled in my superiority . Thus,
when sixth grade arrived, I was a bully; I became the people who had tormented me. I was
deliberately vicious, ridiculing anyone who didn t fit the impossible standard I used to hide my
insecurities. I slashed people down and used their broken pieces to repair myself. The girl I had been
seemed permanently lost to the monster I had become until Julia. Julia was everything I secretly
longed to be: beautiful, brilliant, and unapologetically compassionate. She was my first friend in
Mentor, but I rapidly abandoned her upon realizing that she was unpopular . That is where our contact
ended; simply ignoring her meant that no harm came to

Sexual Identity Exploration And Commitment
The very first item in the Measure of Sexual Identity Exploration and Commitment asks to evaluate on

are, penciling in a 4 where 6 delineate very characteristic, I begin to think of how much certainty is in

be easy to answer with an absolute degree of confidence.
Do I know what my preferences for expressing myself sexually truly are? Another 4, but not a

morals I was exposed to in youth in and out of the parental household.
What truly surprised me as a worked my way through the survey questions, was the immediacy of the

individuals, I am not a stranger to displays of affection of what could be considered of the homosexual

but I have been more intimate with my close male friends than what I have seen other be, sharing
kisses of affection and friendly love without later engaging in more physical demonstrations of
romantic love. Like all, I d like to think, I am able to appreciate and express friendly love, valuing it
greatly as a component of my social life, and not limiting the extent of such emotion to a particular
gender; in the expression of this love, I find enjoyable the connection made by something as
innocuous as a hug, but possibly because of my upbringing in Italy, I further appreciate the intimate
kisses shared on

China s Stature As A Political As Well As Economic...
Synopsis:
China s stature as a political as well as economic hegemon continues to grow well into the second
decade of the 21st century. This has led many to believe that the Chinese Renminbi (which is
denominated in the Yuan, and hence, referred hereafter as such) may soon eclipse the United States
Dollar (USD) as the World Reserve Currency (WRC).
Such claims of a currency of a large economy eclipsing the USD as the WRC have been rife in the
past. In its heyday, Japan s Yen was thought to have the capacity to overthrow the USD s dominating
position in the 1970 s. After that, the German Mark was widely expected to do the same in the 1980 s.
And later, the Euro too was theorized to be the next WRC.
The major aim of this paper is to give economic and political arguments to show that the Yuan will
similarly not succeed to dethrone USD as the world s most dominant currency.
This essay is divided into several sections. The first section deals with defining what exactly the
author means by World Reserve Currency and Dominant Currency because without underlying this,
the issue becomes vague and ambiguous. The second section seeks to answer the factors affecting
currency compositions of reserves across the world and will briefly argue why the USD (and not the
Yuan or any other currency) continues to fit the bill as the perfect reserve currency. It is followed by
section three which asks why the tag of World Reserve Currency is so important and also answers why

The Role Of Political Parties
Political parties have a big role in our government. Norton.com states A political party is a team of
politicians, activist, and voters whose goal is to win control of the government. There are two types of
political parties the most popular are the republicans and democrats. The second type of political party
is third parties. Popular third parties are the green and libertarian party. Political parties have a big role
in the government by their political views, by selecting candidates, mobilize voters, and monitoring
the opposing party. One of the political party s roles in the government is sharing their political views.
Every four years political parties write their party platform. A party platform is a written document
listing that parties views and beliefs. Candidates will run under their party platforms views during an
election. If the candidate is elected he or she will vote for things in their favorable view. This means a
government official will run the country under their party platform, and they will vote for things in
their favor and their party favor. Republicans are pro life, against medical marijuana, and against
LGBT laws. Democrats are pro choice, for medical marijuana, and for LGBT laws. The two main
parties have opposite views and beliefs and that why their platforms are so different. Parties share
their political views with the public to gain support from people that share the same views and beliefs.
Parties will also share the opposing party s views to gain more support for people against those views.
Political parties also have to nominate candidates to run our country like the president and vice
president. Political parties have a big role in the government by selecting candidates. To select a
candidate political parties must go through a two step process recruiting and nominating candidates.
Parties are looking for someone that meets the requirements of the position that they are recruiting for,
an unblemished record, a credible candidate, and the ability to raise money. The next step in the
process is nominating a candidate. The party will nominate the candidate with a higher chance to win.
A candidate can be nominated at a convention or caucus, through the primaries, or

Illegal Interrogation Of Amanda Knox Analysis
The article The Illegal Interrogation of Amanda Knox shows people through their opinions how the
interrogation was illegal. For example, the article states, Amanda Knox was interrogated repeatedly in
the five days following the murder of Meredith Kercher. They also state that Amanda consistently told
the same story over and over again, repeatedly telling the truth, and that she was told she could not
have a lawyer present. This is bias by omission because they only look at it as if she is not guilty, and
only use their language, they do not provide facts that Amanda actually continuously told the story
over and over again. The article does show videos of the interrogators using physical force and this is
physical evidence of the abuse; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also it goes on to explain more techniques they used, for example they ask the suspect to imagine
hypothetical scenarios by feeding the information that they want the suspect to imagine. Eventually
over a long drawn out interrogation, the suspect gets confused and starts complying with the request
being made to imagine the scenarios. Eventually after the long hours of interrogation with no food or
water Amanda did as she had been told and described an imaginary scenario where she was in the
house covering her ears while hearing the screams of meredith being murdering. After she described
it, the police typed it out and this was Amanda s confession from being interrogated physically and
mentally by 12 Italian police, This source shows extreme bias against the interrogation in general
especially through this statement, by word choice, they have word choice such as long drawn out
interrogation , mind games , all of the language is completely bias and wants the reader to feel bad for
amanda. They do provide videos of Amanda being physically abused in the interrogation and the
things that the police said can be heard however they only include Amanda s view they do not quote
anything from the Italian police or people that supported the interrogation. They quote nothing

Miscarriage Is The Most Common Complication Of Pregnancy
Introduction
Miscarriage is the most common complication of pregnancy in the United States, occurring in 15 20%
of clinically recognized pregnancies, or ~1,000,000 cases annually. Despite its frequency, the majority
of Americans believe that it is a rare complication occurring in 5% or fewer of all pregnancies.
Miscarriage can be an unexpected and emotionally devastating diagnosis for patients and their
partners with studies showing that some women may suffer from psychological morbidity for months
after the miscarriage and even into subsequent pregnancies. Our recent study revealed that those who
have suffered a miscarriage frequently feel guilty, isolated and alone. Additionally, there are

In this follow up study, we sought to assess the influence of celebrity and public figures revelations of
their own loss on the publics perception of miscarriages.
Materials and Methods
A 19 item survey was constructed to assess the effect of public figures revelation of their loss on
public perceptions of miscarriage. Miscarriage was defined as a pregnancy loss occurring earlier than
20 weeks. Four additional items (for a total of 27) were directed to those reporting a personal history
of miscarriage and four additional items were specifically for those reporting recent awareness of
celebrity loss. Both men and women were included in the survey.
The survey was posted online using crowdsourcing web service Amazon.com Inc s MTurk. The full
survey can be seen in Appendix 1. Responders are anonymous, however they are given a unique
identifier by Amazon which allows us to identify if any user has taken the survey more than once. We
used MTurk users with an approval rating of 85% or greater (meaning 85% of their previous work on
the site had been considered good). These parameters were chosen to help improve data quality.
Additional discussion of the use of mechanical turk and parameters used can be found in our previous

The Jungle by Upton Sinclari Jr.
Upton Sinclair was a well known novelist from California. He and two other journalists, Ida Tarbell
and Lincoln Steffens, were pioneers of a different kind of journalism known as muckraking. He was
best known for his novel, The Jungle, published in 1906. The novel uncovered the unfair and
unsanitary conditions of the Chicago meat packing industry. In 1904, the editor of the socialist journal,
Appeal to Reason, Fred Warren, gave Sinclair the permission to write a novel about immigrant
workers in the Chicago meat packing houses. The owner of the journal, Julius Wayland, gave Sinclair
a $500 advance to do research for The Jungle. The Jungle was a fictional booked about a young man

Rotten meat was covered in chemicals to hide the smell; rats climbed all over the warehouse, and left
over animal parts were packaged as head cheese, used for fertilizer and even used as soap. Jurgis
worked with people who had skin diseases, people who were always losing fingers as a result of the
assembly line moving so fast, and people who constantly coughed spreading their germs all over the
meat. There were few toilets, and no soap nor clean water to wash their hands with. These working
conditions were unacceptable. Armour, Swift, and Morris were the three companies that dominated the

Drosophila
The fruit fly Drosophila, like many other arthropods, is composed of numerous body segments. In the
adult fly, these segments all look similar but are clearly unique in terms of being separated into the
head, thoracic, abdominal and terminal segments respectively. These segments already have their fates
determined by several types of genes that are expressed within the fly that define these segments. The
main gene in focus for this paper that is unique to flies of the genus Drosophila is the maternal effect
gene, Bicoid. In this critique; I shall attempt to summarize the properties of bcd that enable it to
autonomously determine the anterior half of a cells fate as levels of the bcd protein are altered within
an embryo.

differences in segmentation patterns between the wild type and the mutant embryos and the effects of

If an embryo was taken and mutated for the bicoid gene; the fly would develop no anterior structures.
It would grow without a head and will eventually die.
It was then found that the three genes that code for the anterior development are bcd, exuperantia
[exu], and swallow [swa]. Studies show that the bcd protein is concentrated at the head end and
gradually decreases in concentration as it extends towards the posterior end of the fly. When the bcd
gene was mutated in an embryo, it resulted in embryos with a second posterior region developing
instead of where the head should have been. In bcd mutant embryos, a duplication of the posterior
telson is seen whereby it completely eradicates the presence of anterior structures. These mutant flies
obviously ceased to survive and are thus considered to be strong

IEP s were an improvement Educational plan for those who needed help, in the way, help could
benefit them. Based on the focus group, Sharpe and Hawes (2003), they generally found, teachers
almost wholly disregarded the results of large scale assessments in the consideration of IEP goals and
objectives (Christenson, 2004). Government funded money to help our children with their difficulties
in learning, is not being allocated for those purposes. Many of these struggling learners are headed
towards dropout status, because they don t regurgitate well for tests. One might argue that just because
they failed a test doesn t meant they will drop out of school. However, there is overwhelming evidence
that shows students retained in a grade at one point or another, are more likely to drop out of school. If
students are retained for not passing an exam, it sends a message to them that they are a failure. This
goes hand in hand with some of the many reasons why students drop out of school, some of which are
due to pressure of passing tests, or not passing tests or even fear of failing or looking like a failure.
What I found interesting is even some of our accelerated students are dropping out; they are bored and
do not receive the guidance needed for

Bible is our way to better understand and worship God. If we explore the ESV version in Genesis 2,
we see God made man and woman and said that they shall become one flesh . Karl Marx however,
offered up a different approach. Marx was an Atheist and therefore did not believe in God or the word

With that mindset, our nation has come to the position it is in, particularly in regards to homosexual
marriages . Something that is so clearly stated that is sinful, our government leaders have decided to
legalize. How can we, as God s people, think that we have a right to change one of God s laws? The
answer is Marxism. Once we start disobeying God and start creating our own rules, we begin sinning
against God.
The consequences of Marxism can be witnessed everyday if we pay close attention. Marxism teaches
that everyone is born into a classless society, with everyone being the same. Today, you can observe
other people that constantly need to be like everyone else and to have the material things that everyone
else has. These basic ideas of conforming are Marxist in nature and are actually mentioned in
Ecclesiastes 4:4 7. Eventually, if we follow the path of Marxism, we see how it goes from Capitalism,
to Socialism, to Communism. Socialism though, is what we are dealing with more and more in our
daily lives. We see it happening in our government, work, and if we re not cautious, we will eventually
see it in our families.
Socialism is visible at work every day, especially in regards to welfare. If we look at the traditional
marriage, God ordered the first man and woman, Adam and Eve, to reproduce. And God blessed them.
And God said to them, Be

What is free trade? Free trade is the international trade left to its natural course without tariffs, quotas
or any other restrictions. The first time arguments came around about if free trade was fair was in
1839 42 during the opium wars in China. British drug dealers were exporting roughly a ton of opium
per day over from India. The people of China grew more and more aggrieved at the damage it was
doing to their people and societies, to prevent this the Chinese tried to close their borders. The British
were callous in suppressing this small revolt of the drug disagreeing nationalist china. So today is free
trade fair? I would say this could be answered in many different ways depending on many factors.
There are many advantages for many people and countries however for one person to gain advantage

Dna Is A Polymer Of Nucleotides
DNA is a polymer of nucleotides, each consisting of three components. These components include a
nitrogenous base, a deoxyribose sugar and a phosphate group. The hydrophobic nitrogenous bases are
in the DNA molecules interior with the negatively charged phosphate groups on the outside. Strong
covalent bonds link each unit of the nucleotide together. Between the stacked pairs Van der Waals
interactions play an important role in holding the molecule together. There are four different bases
called adenine, thymine, cytosine and guanine. Adenine bonds with thymine and cytosine bonds with
guanine through weak hydrogen bonds. The number of bonds between the pairs differs however with
adenine forming two hydrogen bonds with thymine and cytosine forming three with guanine. Adenine
and guanine are nitrogenous bases with two organic rings and are purines. Cytosine and thymine are
pyrimidines with single organic rings. The backbone of the DNA molecule is formed as the phosphate
group of one nucleotide is attached the sugar of the next. The DNA molecule is made up of two
strands and these strands wind together to form a double helix. There are ten base pairs per turn of the
double helix. The strands are antiparallel and the polynucleotide strand has directionality from 5 end
to the 3 end. LINK

Rhetorical Analysis On Ghost Spuds
During the super bowl this year, Bud Light aired a commercial named Ghost Spuds that featured a dog
ghost named Spuds MacKenzie who was an iconic character of the franchise and a man. During the
commercial a man tells his friend that he wants to stay in his home for the night, when the phone call
ends the dog appears in front of the man. The commercial provides humor and safety for the product
they are selling and has a good platform for influence. This commercial does demonstrate pathos
because of the pity that the viewers are feeling for the man that does not want to go out with his
friends. The viewers feel this because of the reliability, they may be thinking Who doesn t like to go

In Cold Blood And Truman Capote And In Cold Blood
In Cold Blood, a nonfictional narrative explores a different side of four brutal murders in hopes to
humanize the murderers while, on the other hand, the film, Capote, explores the creation of the story
as well as Truman Capote s relationships with the killers. Though the variants tell slightly different
stories, they converge on certain stylistic elements such as contrast. From the cheerful shots of yellow,
brightness, and loud ambiance, to somber, cold, framed shots of solemn feeling in Capote as well as
substantial differences in the natures of the characters from In Cold Blood, both use contrast to
express the purpose of the pieces and uncover point of view. A recurring theme of through Capote and
In Cold Blood is the contrast of Perry s nature, which constructs a more complex character with depth.
Throughout the book, Perry displays two conflicting personalities. A majority of the time Perry is
insecure, submissive, and childlike. His relationship with Dick highlights his insecurity and
dependency, for example when he lies to Dick about killing a man to seem more intimidating. Because
of his childhood traumas Perry often cries in his sleep, sucks his thumb, or even wets his bed, Perry
could be such a kid, always wetting his bed and crying in his sleep ( Dad, I been looking everywhere,

feeds Perry baby food because he is so weak. Another way both adaptations add to

Physics of an Acoustic Guitar Essay
Physics of an Acoustic Guitar
I have been watching my husband play the guitar in a band for five years and he has made it look so
easy to make such beautiful music. Most guitar players have progressed with the technology of
electric guitars, but when my husband picks up an acoustic guitar and starts to play a song for just me,
I hear his love for me in the sounds that he produces. Imagine my surprise when a physics class
conveyed to me that there was much more to his playing than I had imagined.
The sound that a guitar makes is easily recognizable to many people because the physics of the
acoustic guitar is mostly universal. The noticeable distinctions are the result of various wavelengths
and the harmonics that are created by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An antinode is present at the furthest amplitude above the string and at the furthest amplitude below
the wave. A full wavelength has two nodes and two antinodes. On a fixed string, nodes are created at
both ends, so the fundamental, or longest, wavelength that could be produced, would be twice the
length of the guitar string. Harmonics are determined by whole number multiples of the fundamental
wavelength. 3 They can vary in speed and have any number of wavelengths that can be generated with
nodes at both ends. For example, the first harmonic would be a full wavelength and have two nodes
and two antinodes. Each additional harmonic would add an additional half of a wavelength to the
string.
The relationship between the wavelength and the speed of the wave creates different frequencies from
the guitar. The frequency is the number of wavelengths that occur per second. The equation is set up
as the frequency equals the speed of the waves divided by the wavelength, or f = u § l . Frequency is
measured in Hertz (Hz) and humans can generally hear between 20Hz and 20,000Hz, depending on
the individual.
The various frequencies formed on a guitar are attributed to the difference in the strings on the guitar.
The strings, in order from the bottom to the top, are: E, B, G, D, A, and E. Their fundamental
frequencies are listed respectively as: 329.6Hz, 246.9Hz, 196Hz, 146.8Hz, 110Hz, and

The Prevalence Of Stressors And Anxiety Disorders
Introduction
Stress and anxiety affect a large segment of the child and adolescent population. Numerous stressors
from a wide range of domains contribute to the current levels of subclinical anxiety and diagnosed
anxiety disorders. Without effective coping strategies, the cumulative effect of these stressors can lead
to the clinical diagnosis of one or more anxiety disorders. Left untreated, these disorders can carry
severe long term consequences, including social, cognitive, and academic impairments. Furthermore,
these deficiencies can lead to significant limitations in adulthood, such as reduced career choices,
substance abuse, and an increase in the use of both mental and physical health care.
This paper will first review the prevalence of stressors and anxiety disorders, as well as the associated
negative outcomes. It will then investigate the merits and limitations of several programs designed to
treat and prevent anxiety disorders. Lastly, this article will discuss the FRIENDS for Life program,
and a means of implementation.
Background Significance
Prevalence of Stressors and Anxiety
Numerous studies have demonstrated the impact of stress on the lives of youth. Adolescents are
exposed to a plethora of stressors that range from family discord (Omizo, Omizo, Suzuki, 1988) to
peer relationships (Newcomb, Huba, Bentler, 1986; Patterson McCubbin, 1987) to economic
hardships (Lempers, Clark Lempers, Simon, 1989). However, the most frequently reported stressors

Examples Of Cognitive Dissonance Theory
Defining who you are is always such an arduous task. I never know what to say and I always draw a
blank when I m put on the spot. I never know what to say because I never really put too much thought
into defining myself. It s usually just something that you don t think about too much because honestly
it s pretty difficult. Luckily there are theories that propose many ideas that help me define myself.
Theories such as the Symbolic Interaction theory, cognitive dissonance theory, expectancy violations
theory, and temperament. These four theories are each very different but they can all be used to help
define who a person is. They propose reasoning and thought behind the ways we behave,

Cognitive dissonance can formally be defined as feeling of discomfort resulting from inconsistent
attitudes, thoughts and behaviors, ( Communication 90). We will have a feeling of discomfort if new
informations doesn t fit with what we already know and we will take many steps to reduce it (
Communication 90). We do this mainly because we seek psychological consistencies and that feeling
of discomfort can lead us to changing our attitudes and behaviors ( Communication 93). For example,
when we try and keep dissonance from happening we will either ignore the different views that are
presented, change either our views or the other person s views depending on the situation, or trying to
reassure ourselves after making a big decision ( Communication 92). Dissonance also comes in
different forms of impact. We will take into account how severe the situation is before making a final
decision, or the magnitude of the situation ( Communication 94). The magnitude is how much
dissonance is felt ( Communication 94). We take the account of magnitude in by looking at
importance, ratio, and rationale of the situation ( Communication 94 95). Importance is how
significant we see the situation to be (95). The last two parts are ratio, the dissonant cognitions
compared to the consonant cognitions, and rationale which is what we decide the reason behind the
dissonance is ( Communication 95). With the cognitive dissonance theory there are different ways in
which we can perceive information and that help us reduce dissonance ( Communication 96). The four
perception types are selective exposure, selective attention, selective interpretation, and selective
retention ( Communication 96). The first perception is selective exposure which can be defined as
looking at the information the we want to ( Communication 96). The

Social Media in the Twenty First Century The first social media site that was actively used, Myspace,
was created in 2003. In the upcoming years after this, numerous social media sites were created, such
as, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The effects of social media on people have been researched for
several years. Two authors, Shirley Lee and Eva Wiseman, have similar and different views on social
media. Using their views and persuasive methods, they wrote an article on the outcomes of social
media. The conclusion of social media, from both authors, is that it can be useful in everyday life,
damaging to teens mental health, and cause lingering effects. Social media can be very useful in
everyday lives. In Lee s view, she used her Facebook application to send gifts to her friends she didn t
get to see often in person. She insists that Facebook is a cool app for sending gifts and I have 50
ongoing conversations on the app (Lee 4). Facebook can help you keep in touch with distant family, or

Firstly, the long term addition of Jeff Petry, who looked like a top pairing defenseman in last playoffs,
will certainly bring an element of stability to this Montreal defense. Petry has signed a 6 year deal
with the Canadiens and at the age of 27, this deal takes him through his prime years.
Secondly, the addition of Petry also allows Markov and Subban to play a bit less hockey in a lenghty
season, which will allow the two most relied on defensemen to have a bit more energy throughout the
season and into the playoffs.
Finally, the Montreal defense is improved in the sense that it is as deep as it ever has been. General
manager Marc Bergevin has definitely put emphasis on defensemen this off season. The signings of
Joel Hanley, Ryan Johnston, Mark Barberio and the drafting of Noah Juulsen and Simon Bourque

Given the demands of the position, without aerobic fitness a midfielder would be physically unable to

Midfielders must display efficient aerobic fitness as they need to provide support to both the defence

midfield needs to help in defence and then is quite hastily required to push hard forward with the ball.
(O Keefe, 2013) According to an article on catapult sports, midfielders cover the greatest total

pay seventy dollars to the government. While someone that only made one hundred dollars would pay
seven dollars to the government; this they may deem unfair.
The common ground the two parties would meet on would be a flat tax. So, any household that is
classified as on or below the poverty line will not be taxed whatsoever. Then the tax amount for
everyone else would be chosen based off of the governments projected spending amount for that year,
and incorporating the idea of reducing the deficit. It would take a lot of work to get implemented, not
only would the idea have to be adopted by both parties, it would have to be supported by two of the
three branches of government. The bill would begin in the House of Representatives, after being
passed there it would move to a vote with the Senate. If the bill continues to be passed it will move to
the executive branch where it can either be signed of vetoed by the president, although a veto can be
overridden with a two thirds vote from Congress. Once it is passed the existing tax code would have to
be completely thrown out and the flat tax implemented. But this is not simply a month long process,
the timeline for a flat tax to be implemented would likely be about four years. It is a lengthy process,
but one that is well worth the wait.

Police Agencies Implement Community Policing, And Problem...
Introduction Do Canadian police agencies implement community policing, and problem oriented
policing? and if so do they work? In this paper, this paper will examine the two different styles of
policing in a contemporary society. Community policing where the main emphasis is that the police
and the community work together on issues, and problem oriented policing where the police try and
understand specific issues within the community. It will also examine several examples of different
policing agencies in Canada, and what they implement for community policing, and problem oriented
policing programs, and most importantly are they community policing, or problem oriented? Like
many thing in life there are always critics of different ideas, so it will also examine the criticism on
both of these policing styles.
Policing in a Contemporary Society
Problem Oriented Policing Problem oriented policing is the method in which police agencies focus
their attention to the reasons of why crimes are committed, and the complaints of crimes from the
public, with the focus on trying to better understand them (Goff, 2016). Problem oriented policing was
developed by Herman Goldstein in 1979, he described it as a change in the way in which police
function (Goff, 2016). Goff also stated the main premise is that crime needed to be studied, the police
did not have the true understanding of the underlying cause of crime, it was also stated that if they did
not do this there would be a greater

The Ideal of a Man, the Ideal of a Woman of the Heian...
Seen from descriptions in the most prominent literature works in Heian era, such as Ise Monotagari,
Kagerō Nikki, Izumi Shikibu Nikki, Makura no Shōshi, and Genji Monogatari, gender roles during the
period were implicitly or explicitly defined, and I assume, because of this climate, they were
considered as major parts of the society, and vice versa. There are many characters appearing in Genji
Monogatari. I think each of them is a representation of people whom Murasaki Shikibu had observed
around her in her time, and that reviews of those characters are the key to a glimpse into ideal
manliness and ideal femininity and manliness in the Heian era. In this paper, I will discuss the ideal
images of men and women in Heian era by analyzing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That the emperor takes Fujitsubo as his second wife because she resembles Kiritsubo no Kōi shows
that how beautiful they both are. Kiritsubo s death, as still being beautiful and beloved by the man she
loves, reminds me of the concept of mono no aware, referring to beauty, fragileness, and virtue of
mortality. Similarly, Fujitsubo, who is the daughter of the earlier emperor, is physically attractive and
loyal although she is rather attracted to Genji but does her best to adhere to her position as the emperor
s wife; she is a good representation of mono no aware as well in that to Genji she is unreachable
although she, mutually caring for him, seems so close. Ustusemi, appearing in the chapters 2 and 3,
also represents what was considered to be a good woman; she is attractive, reserved, and witty enough
to reply Genji s poem. Despite the success of Genji s first unexpected approach to Utsusemi,
afterwards she consistently refuses him due to her strong, reasonable determination not to see him
again; her refusal to accept Genji may relate to her age, which is unknown but presumably older than
Genji, which may go against the social preference of relationships in the period. Looking from another
perspective, I think how Genji reacts to her attitudes toward him provides the reader with a peep of
Murasaki Shikibu feminism; that is,

Pros And Cons Of Transgender Soldiers In The Military
Did you know that 87 percent of students not going to college right out of high school do NOT meet
the military recruitment standards? So why would we want to refuse nearly 1 percent of our military
from serving (Feinberg)? Since Donald Trump was inaugurated, transgender recruiting for the military
has decreased (Brook). Then on July 26, 2017, President Donald Trump tweeted that the U.S. military
would no longer be accepting transgender soldiers in the military (Ingraham). This reverses the policy
Barack Obama established in June 2016 when transgenders weren t allowed in the military
(McLaughlin). Although many believe the medical costs of having transgenders in the military are too
expensive, they are just as accepted and prepared to fight as other soldiers. The main reason President
Donald Trump declared transgenders were no longer going to be accepted in the military was because
our military can t afford the extra costs of transgender medicines and procedures. There was even a
report written on our bad military budget by the Congressional Budget Office in 2014 titled,
Approaches to Reducing Federal Spending on Military Healthcare . Right now in the military, there
are currently 250 transgender personnel transitioning. Altogether, it costs the military $31 million for
the 250 transgender personnel, about $124,000 $140,000 per person (Pulley). A survey conducted by
RAND corporation says that the transgender medical costs would only increase the military budget by

Womens Rights Violations
Women s rights, as defined by the Global Fund for Women, is the right to live free from violence,
slavery, and discrimination; to be educated; to own property; to vote; and to earn a fair and equal
wage, and in our country, there have been many instances of the violation of these rights, such as
sexual harassment, gender discrimination, misogyny. These acts can even be seen at different points in
the timeline of the Philippine history, be it in the past decades, or at present. Hence, the purpose of this
paper is to compare women s rights violations in the Philippines in the context of both the present, and
the time of Martial Law.
During Martial Law At the time of Martial Law, rights pertaining to women were already present and
were those that have already been recognized by the state. Despite having these, the rise of harassment
and violations of these rights were not prevented as evidenced by the numerous victims of torture,
rape, abduction, and sexual harassment, which in particular, was the prominent act of violence against
women. As mentioned by Susan Quimpo upon inquiry, The common thought among women was that
rape was the minimum when you are caught and you are a woman. There was even an SOP with the
military where they were allowed to molest or basically rape women when caught, and this instance
alone shows how women are not only sexualized, but likewise how there is much disregard of the
rights they have not to live in discrimination and violence. Quimpo also

Tuskegee Ethical Dilemmas
4. The Tuskegee Study was a classic example of ethics abuse in research. What were three wrongs
committed in that study?
The first ethical violation surrounds confidentiality. According to research, confidentiality is not an
issue when observing large groups, where individual responses or actions are not considered or when
participants identifiable information is not involved. Even in cases where there are large groups being
assessed it is up to the researcher to use good judgment in making decisions regarding what
information should be shared (Explorable, 2018). In the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment, individual
responses/ reactions were taken into consideration and each participant s identifiable information was
used. Thus, the participants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Influence Of Puritans In New England
Puritanism a product of the protestant reformation was founded on the belief that only those who have
felt the presence of god should be given church membership. The Puritans beliefs strongly conflicted
with the religious systems of England, causing them to search for a new home. The Pilgrims, being
some of the first to leave England, traveled to holland for a 12 span and then eventually docked at
Plymouth Bay in New England. Being outside of the Virginia Company s territory their permission to
settle was void, but settle they did. Following the pilgrims lead, in 1630 close to one thousand puritans
sailed the Atlantic to escape persecution and settle in the new world. Due to a population comprised
mainly of Puritans, The New England colonies were founded upon religious values. The Puritans
religious beliefs caused them to set up a government built upon the church and to be xenophobic to
non Puritans, but were ultimately the key to their colonies success. ... Show more content on

of elected officials, only church members could vote, Yet the provincial government, liberal by the
standards of the time, was not a democarcy... But only Puritans the visible saints who were alone
eligible for church membership could be freemen [voters]. (35) The church developed enormous
amounts of power in New england, Religious leaders thus wielded enormous influence... (35), because
only church members could vote. Therefore the religious leaders were the only ones advising on
political matters. For better or worse New England s government was controlled solely by Puritans

Arkansas Antiques Newspaper 1. Horsefeathers! Can you name this breed of horse that is known for
its feathers? In this case, the feathers are truly known as feathering, and they are the long hairs that
flow around the lower legs of certain breeds of draft horses. And while this type of horse features
white feathers, it is also known for its height and size. First developed in Scotland, the breed takes its
name directly from a Scottish county. However, we often associate this breed with the city of St.
Louis, Missouri. In the early 1930s, a famous brewery began to feature the breed in events aimed at
celebrating the repeal of Prohibition. Today, the breed is often viewed as this company s mascot. What

What do you get when you mix tin together with other metals such as copper, antimony, or lead? You
get this highly malleable, metal alloy. This material was in use as far back as ancient Egypt, and it has
found itself recast (and recast, and recast) throughout history. In fact, that is one of the main features
of this versatile metal, it is not too terribly difficult to melt down and reform into a new object. The
metal itself was often called poor man s silver, and it was used to craft tableware and dinnerware
including: Tankards, porringers, chargers, flagons, and Ecclesiastical wares. Today, this metal is still
used to craft candlesticks, sconces, hardware, small statuettes, and other decorative knick knacks.

  • 2. Salmonella Research Paper INTRODUCTION Salmonellosis is a disease caused by the bacteria salmonella. Characterised usually by acute onset of fever, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, nausea and sometimes vomiting. Onset of disease symptoms occurs 6 72 hours (usually 12 36 hours) after ingestion of salmonella, and illness lasts 2 7 days. Symptoms of salmonellosis are relatively mild and patients will make a recovery without specific treatment in most cases (WHO). Salmonella being a foodborne illness pathogen causes severe debilitating infections including meningitis. Explain why you believe each theme has emerged. When it comes to the male and female genitalia, people never use the proper terminology. When parents are faced with questions from children they would rather avoid the awkwardness and come up with pet names. With young adults, trying to fit in is the top of their list, so using slang for the genitals is considered cool. It is emphasized especially in our culture/media, that using slang for their genitals is cool, that by using the proper terms vagina and penis you are labeled as awkward, rigid and very clinical. One common theme among the slangs used for male genitalia is often a dangerous weapon holding super powers. These themes have emerged because throughout history the male sex has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Do you think the slang terms produced in the list are in any way product of sexism towards either males or females? This list definitely embodies sexism towards both males and females. On the male side, chauvinistic, masculine qualities are being described while the female s list of words are portrayed more as property and innocent, cute and even mysterious objects. Obviously these slangs are all stereotypes of the male and female genitalia. They are what the culture expect of us and pressurizes individuals to be and have. For example, the word pussy is a commonly used slang for vagina. It used to mean cat or coward but somehow our culture associated this word that was used to describe something so gentle like a cat and someone who is weak and a coward and relate it to a women s private parts. Why don t we use anything that s more aggressive and strong to describe a women s vagina when physically a vagina can handle more physical labor (pain) then a penis! Dark Imagery In Wise Blood By Flannery O Connor Through the use of the dark imagery and the Essex, religious symbolism in Wise Blood appears again and again to prove that the longings of the heart cannot be found in the world. O Connor uses darkness to delve into certain aspects of each character. She depicts Taulkinham as a grim place. When the main character, Haze, begins his new life in this new town, it is depicted to have a black sky, he soon sees a man with a black suit and a black hat... accompanies a girl with her black dress and black knitted cap... The darkness that Enoch runs into, and is wearing, symbolizes alienation and friendship. TOne of the few female characters presented is a young lady named Sabbath and her blind father Asa. The eyes of Asa, and his daughter s weird sexual fetish with Hazel, represent the symbol of innocence, ultimate demise, and hopelessness. She uses the symbol of darkness throughout the novel as a recurring object to justify salvation, alienation, friendship, blindness, and redemption. The darkness symbolizes the redemption. Ultimate salvation that is supposedly coming to Hazel. The color of the suit is black; therefore, the darkness, embedded in the suit, symbolizes his salvation and redemption throughout the novel. He wears it and it wears him. It is inescapable. The blind theme of the novel has nothing to do with human eyes. The overbearing scent of Axe radiates off of every arrogant schoolboy who gallivants across the grounds and stops at my locker. Gossip flutters around me, seducing me into its inescapable vice. Such was Memorial Middle School when I first debuted in August, 2011. Going into sixth grade, I was the most popular girl in school. Although I may have had ebony hair and bubblegum lips, there was no hiding the ugliness of who I was: the meanest girl in school. Soon enough, I started to believe them; by the conclusion of fourth grade, I felt worthless. When I learned that I would be transferring schools, I saw redemption. That summer, I exchanged novels for magazines; I went on extreme diets to lose weight as if cutting pounds could cut the memories of abuse from my head. Going into fifth grade, I found myself googling How to be Normal in an attempt to abandon my identity; fifteen pounds and a miniskirt later, I had all but done so. By maintaining a facade of normalcy , I became instantly popular, and I gained influence that I had never thought possible. Girls looked to me for advice on everything from boys to hairstyles, and I reveled in my superiority . Thus, when sixth grade arrived, I was a bully; I became the people who had tormented me. I was deliberately vicious, ridiculing anyone who didn t fit the impossible standard I used to hide my insecurities. I slashed people down and used their broken pieces to repair myself. The girl I had been seemed permanently lost to the monster I had become until Julia. Julia was everything I secretly longed to be: beautiful, brilliant, and unapologetically compassionate. • 10. China s Stature As A Political As Well As Economic... Synopsis: China s stature as a political as well as economic hegemon continues to grow well into the second decade of the 21st century. This has led many to believe that the Chinese Renminbi (which is denominated in the Yuan, and hence, referred hereafter as such) may soon eclipse the United States Dollar (USD) as the World Reserve Currency (WRC). Such claims of a currency of a large economy eclipsing the USD as the WRC have been rife in the past. In its heyday, Japan s Yen was thought to have the capacity to overthrow the USD s dominating position in the 1970 s. After that, the German Mark was widely expected to do the same in the 1980 s. And later, the Euro too was theorized to be the next WRC. The major aim of this paper is to give economic and political arguments to show that the Yuan will similarly not succeed to dethrone USD as the world s most dominant currency. This essay is divided into several sections. The first section deals with defining what exactly the author means by World Reserve Currency and Dominant Currency because without underlying this, the issue becomes vague and ambiguous. The second section seeks to answer the factors affecting currency compositions of reserves across the world and will briefly argue why the USD (and not the Yuan or any other currency) continues to fit the bill as the perfect reserve currency. It is followed by section three which asks why the tag of World Reserve Currency is so important and also answers why the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Role Of Political Parties Political parties have a big role in our government. Norton.com states A political party is a team of politicians, activist, and voters whose goal is to win control of the government. There are two types of political parties the most popular are the republicans and democrats. The second type of political party is third parties. Popular third parties are the green and libertarian party. Political parties have a big role in the government by their political views, by selecting candidates, mobilize voters, and monitoring the opposing party. One of the political party s roles in the government is sharing their political views. Every four years political parties write their party platform. A party platform is a written document listing that parties views and beliefs. Candidates will run under their party platforms views during an election. If the candidate is elected he or she will vote for things in their favorable view. This means a government official will run the country under their party platform, and they will vote for things in their favor and their party favor. Republicans are pro life, against medical marijuana, and against LGBT laws. Democrats are pro choice, for medical marijuana, and for LGBT laws. The two main parties have opposite views and beliefs and that why their platforms are so different. Parties share their political views with the public to gain support from people that share the same views and beliefs. Parties will also share the opposing party s views to gain more support for people against those views. Political parties also have to nominate candidates to run our country like the president and vice president. Political parties have a big role in the government by selecting candidates. To select a candidate political parties must go through a two step process recruiting and nominating candidates. Parties are looking for someone that meets the requirements of the position that they are recruiting for, an unblemished record, a credible candidate, and the ability to raise money. The next step in the process is nominating a candidate. The party will nominate the candidate with a higher chance to win. For example, the article states, Amanda Knox was interrogated repeatedly in the five days following the murder of Meredith Kercher. They also state that Amanda consistently told the same story over and over again, repeatedly telling the truth, and that she was told she could not have a lawyer present. This is bias by omission because they only look at it as if she is not guilty, and only use their language, they do not provide facts that Amanda actually continuously told the story over and over again. He and two other journalists, Ida Tarbell and Lincoln Steffens, were pioneers of a different kind of journalism known as muckraking. He was best known for his novel, The Jungle, published in 1906. The novel uncovered the unfair and unsanitary conditions of the Chicago meat packing industry. In 1904, the editor of the socialist journal, Appeal to Reason, Fred Warren, gave Sinclair the permission to write a novel about immigrant workers in the Chicago meat packing houses. The owner of the journal, Julius Wayland, gave Sinclair a $500 advance to do research for The Jungle. In the adult fly, these segments all look similar but are clearly unique in terms of being separated into the head, thoracic, abdominal and terminal segments respectively. The main gene in focus for this paper that is unique to flies of the genus Drosophila is the maternal effect gene, Bicoid. It was then found that the three genes that code for the anterior development are bcd, exuperantia [exu], and swallow [swa]. Studies show that the bcd protein is concentrated at the head end and gradually decreases in concentration as it extends towards the posterior end of the fly. When the bcd gene was mutated in an embryo, it resulted in embryos with a second posterior region developing instead of where the head should have been. In bcd mutant embryos, a duplication of the posterior telson is seen whereby it completely eradicates the presence of anterior structures. One might argue that just because they failed a test doesn t meant they will drop out of school. However, there is overwhelming evidence that shows students retained in a grade at one point or another, are more likely to drop out of school. If students are retained for not passing an exam, it sends a message to them that they are a failure. This goes hand in hand with some of the many reasons why students drop out of school, some of which are due to pressure of passing tests, or not passing tests or even fear of failing or looking like a failure. What I found interesting is even some of our accelerated students are dropping out; they are bored and do not receive the guidance needed for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, due to process philosophy, we can now see that same institution is being attacked and transformed into something that God objects to. As Christians, the Bible is our way to better understand and worship God. If we explore the ESV version in Genesis 2, we see God made man and woman and said that they shall become one flesh . The answer is Marxism. Once we start disobeying God and start creating our own rules, we begin sinning against God. The consequences of Marxism can be witnessed everyday if we pay close attention. Marxism teaches that everyone is born into a classless society, with everyone being the same. Today, you can observe other people that constantly need to be like everyone else and to have the material things that everyone else has. These basic ideas of conforming are Marxist in nature and are actually mentioned in Ecclesiastes 4:4 7. We see it happening in our government, work, and if we re not cautious, we will eventually see it in our families. Socialism is visible at work every day, especially in regards to welfare. • 21. Dna Is A Polymer Of Nucleotides DNA is a polymer of nucleotides, each consisting of three components. These components include a nitrogenous base, a deoxyribose sugar and a phosphate group. The hydrophobic nitrogenous bases are in the DNA molecules interior with the negatively charged phosphate groups on the outside. Strong covalent bonds link each unit of the nucleotide together. Between the stacked pairs Van der Waals interactions play an important role in holding the molecule together. There are four different bases called adenine, thymine, cytosine and guanine. Adenine bonds with thymine and cytosine bonds with guanine through weak hydrogen bonds. The number of bonds between the pairs differs however with adenine forming two hydrogen bonds with thymine and cytosine forming three with guanine. Adenine and guanine are nitrogenous bases with two organic rings and are purines. Cytosine and thymine are pyrimidines with single organic rings. The backbone of the DNA molecule is formed as the phosphate group of one nucleotide is attached the sugar of the next. The DNA molecule is made up of two strands and these strands wind together to form a double helix. There are ten base pairs per turn of the double helix. The strands are antiparallel and the polynucleotide strand has directionality from 5 end to the 3 end. LINK DNA Replication LINK. Though the variants tell slightly different stories, they converge on certain stylistic elements such as contrast. From the cheerful shots of yellow, brightness, and loud ambiance, to somber, cold, framed shots of solemn feeling in Capote as well as substantial differences in the natures of the characters from In Cold Blood, both use contrast to express the purpose of the pieces and uncover point of view. A recurring theme of through Capote and In Cold Blood is the contrast of Perry s nature, which constructs a more complex character with depth. An antinode is present at the furthest amplitude above the string and at the furthest amplitude below the wave. A full wavelength has two nodes and two antinodes. On a fixed string, nodes are created at both ends, so the fundamental, or longest, wavelength that could be produced, would be twice the length of the guitar string. Harmonics are determined by whole number multiples of the fundamental wavelength. 3 They can vary in speed and have any number of wavelengths that can be generated with nodes at both ends. For example, the first harmonic would be a full wavelength and have two nodes and two antinodes. Each additional harmonic would add an additional half of a wavelength to the string. The relationship between the wavelength and the speed of the wave creates different frequencies from the guitar. The frequency is the number of wavelengths that occur per second. The equation is set up as the frequency equals the speed of the waves divided by the wavelength, or f = u § l . Frequency is measured in Hertz (Hz) and humans can generally hear between 20Hz and 20,000Hz, depending on the individual. • 28. The Prevalence Of Stressors And Anxiety Disorders Introduction Stress and anxiety affect a large segment of the child and adolescent population. Numerous stressors from a wide range of domains contribute to the current levels of subclinical anxiety and diagnosed anxiety disorders. Without effective coping strategies, the cumulative effect of these stressors can lead to the clinical diagnosis of one or more anxiety disorders. Left untreated, these disorders can carry severe long term consequences, including social, cognitive, and academic impairments. Furthermore, these deficiencies can lead to significant limitations in adulthood, such as reduced career choices, substance abuse, and an increase in the use of both mental and physical health care. This paper will first review the prevalence of stressors and anxiety disorders, as well as the associated negative outcomes. It will then investigate the merits and limitations of several programs designed to treat and prevent anxiety disorders. Cognitive dissonance can formally be defined as feeling of discomfort resulting from inconsistent attitudes, thoughts and behaviors, ( Communication 90). We will have a feeling of discomfort if new informations doesn t fit with what we already know and we will take many steps to reduce it ( Communication 90). We do this mainly because we seek psychological consistencies and that feeling of discomfort can lead us to changing our attitudes and behaviors ( Communication 93). For example, when we try and keep dissonance from happening we will either ignore the different views that are presented, change either our views or the other person s views depending on the situation, or trying to reassure ourselves after making a big decision ( Communication 92). Dissonance also comes in different forms of impact. We will take into account how severe the situation is before making a final decision, or the magnitude of the situation ( Communication 94). The magnitude is how much dissonance is felt ( Communication 94). We take the account of magnitude in by looking at importance, ratio, and rationale of the situation ( Communication 94 95). Importance is how significant we see the situation to be (95). The last two parts are ratio, the dissonant cognitions compared to the consonant cognitions, and rationale which is what we decide the reason behind the dissonance is ( Communication 95). After participating in this test, I scored 10.6. This falls under the very good category , where anything above 11 was excellent . This is well above average for my age group and gender, which therefore means my increased level of aerobic fitness would allow for me to successfully fulfil the many roles of a ... • 36. Tax Reformation Common Ground The tax policy in the United States is very confusing. When the tax policy was originally written in 1913 it was four hundred pages. Now, over the past ninety one years, that tax policy has evolved to over 72,000 pages. Since the tax code has become so lengthy and nearly impossible to understand, the topic of tax reform has been in the minds of many. Although, most barely think about tax reform until tax season. It is a controversial subject due to the impact a change in tax code would have on the American people. The two most popular and widely known stakeholders in this debate are the two major political parties in the United States, the Democrats and the Republicans. The two parties share absolutely no common ground on the subject of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Garrett 2 For example, if the tax rate is seven percent and one person makes one thousand dollars they would pay seventy dollars to the government. While someone that only made one hundred dollars would pay seven dollars to the government; this they may deem unfair. The common ground the two parties would meet on would be a flat tax. So, any household that is classified as on or below the poverty line will not be taxed whatsoever. Then the tax amount for everyone else would be chosen based off of the governments projected spending amount for that year, and incorporating the idea of reducing the deficit. It would take a lot of work to get implemented, not only would the idea have to be adopted by both parties, it would have to be supported by two of the three branches of government. The bill would begin in the House of Representatives, after being passed there it would move to a vote with the Senate. If the bill continues to be passed it will move to the executive branch where it can either be signed of vetoed by the president, although a veto can be overridden with a two thirds vote from Congress. Once it is passed the existing tax code would have to be completely thrown out and the flat tax implemented. But this is not simply a month long process, the timeline for a flat tax to be implemented would likely be about four years. It is a lengthy process, but one that is well worth the wait. While only economists can predict how a flat tax would impact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Police Agencies Implement Community Policing, And Problem... Introduction Do Canadian police agencies implement community policing, and problem oriented policing? and if so do they work? In this paper, this paper will examine the two different styles of policing in a contemporary society. Community policing where the main emphasis is that the police and the community work together on issues, and problem oriented policing where the police try and understand specific issues within the community. It will also examine several examples of different policing agencies in Canada, and what they implement for community policing, and problem oriented policing programs, and most importantly are they community policing, or problem oriented? Like many thing in life there are always critics of different ideas, so it will also examine the criticism on both of these policing styles. Policing in a Contemporary Society Problem Oriented Policing Problem oriented policing is the method in which police agencies focus their attention to the reasons of why crimes are committed, and the complaints of crimes from the public, with the focus on trying to better understand them (Goff, 2016). Problem oriented policing was developed by Herman Goldstein in 1979, he described it as a change in the way in which police function (Goff, 2016). Goff also stated the main premise is that crime needed to be studied, the police did not have the true understanding of the underlying cause of crime, it was also stated that if they did not do this there would be a greater ... • 39. The Ideal of a Man, the Ideal of a Woman of the Heian... Seen from descriptions in the most prominent literature works in Heian era, such as Ise Monotagari, Kagerō Nikki, Izumi Shikibu Nikki, Makura no Shōshi, and Genji Monogatari, gender roles during the period were implicitly or explicitly defined, and I assume, because of this climate, they were considered as major parts of the society, and vice versa. There are many characters appearing in Genji Monogatari. I think each of them is a representation of people whom Murasaki Shikibu had observed around her in her time, and that reviews of those characters are the key to a glimpse into ideal manliness and ideal femininity and manliness in the Heian era. In this paper, I will discuss the ideal images of men and women in Heian era by analyzing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That the emperor takes Fujitsubo as his second wife because she resembles Kiritsubo no Kōi shows that how beautiful they both are. Kiritsubo s death, as still being beautiful and beloved by the man she loves, reminds me of the concept of mono no aware, referring to beauty, fragileness, and virtue of mortality. Similarly, Fujitsubo, who is the daughter of the earlier emperor, is physically attractive and loyal although she is rather attracted to Genji but does her best to adhere to her position as the emperor s wife; she is a good representation of mono no aware as well in that to Genji she is unreachable although she, mutually caring for him, seems so close. Ustusemi, appearing in the chapters 2 and 3, also represents what was considered to be a good woman; she is attractive, reserved, and witty enough to reply Genji s poem. Despite the success of Genji s first unexpected approach to Utsusemi, afterwards she consistently refuses him due to her strong, reasonable determination not to see him again; her refusal to accept Genji may relate to her age, which is unknown but presumably older than Genji, which may go against the social preference of relationships in the period. Looking from another perspective, I think how Genji reacts to her attitudes toward him provides the reader with a peep of Murasaki Shikibu feminism; that is, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Pros And Cons Of Transgender Soldiers In The Military Did you know that 87 percent of students not going to college right out of high school do NOT meet the military recruitment standards? So why would we want to refuse nearly 1 percent of our military from serving (Feinberg)? Since Donald Trump was inaugurated, transgender recruiting for the military has decreased (Brook). Then on July 26, 2017, President Donald Trump tweeted that the U.S. military would no longer be accepting transgender soldiers in the military (Ingraham). This reverses the policy Barack Obama established in June 2016 when transgenders weren t allowed in the military (McLaughlin). Although many believe the medical costs of having transgenders in the military are too expensive, they are just as accepted and prepared to fight as other soldiers. The main reason President Donald Trump declared transgenders were no longer going to be accepted in the military was because our military can t afford the extra costs of transgender medicines and procedures. There was even a report written on our bad military budget by the Congressional Budget Office in 2014 titled, Approaches to Reducing Federal Spending on Military Healthcare . Right now in the military, there are currently 250 transgender personnel transitioning. Altogether, it costs the military $31 million for the 250 transgender personnel, about $124,000 $140,000 per person (Pulley). • 42. Womens Rights Violations Women s rights, as defined by the Global Fund for Women, is the right to live free from violence, slavery, and discrimination; to be educated; to own property; to vote; and to earn a fair and equal wage, and in our country, there have been many instances of the violation of these rights, such as sexual harassment, gender discrimination, misogyny. These acts can even be seen at different points in the timeline of the Philippine history, be it in the past decades, or at present. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to compare women s rights violations in the Philippines in the context of both the present, and the time of Martial Law. During Martial Law At the time of Martial Law, rights pertaining to women were already present and were those that have already been recognized by the state. Despite having these, the rise of harassment and violations of these rights were not prevented as evidenced by the numerous victims of torture, rape, abduction, and sexual harassment, which in particular, was the prominent act of violence against women. As mentioned by Susan Quimpo upon inquiry, The common thought among women was that rape was the minimum when you are caught and you are a woman. There was even an SOP with the military where they were allowed to molest or basically rape women when caught, and this instance alone shows how women are not only sexualized, but likewise how there is much disregard of the rights they have not to live in discrimination and violence. The first ethical violation surrounds confidentiality. According to research, confidentiality is not an issue when observing large groups, where individual responses or actions are not considered or when participants identifiable information is not involved. Even in cases where there are large groups being assessed it is up to the researcher to use good judgment in making decisions regarding what information should be shared (Explorable, 2018). In the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment, individual responses/ reactions were taken into consideration and each participant s identifiable information was used. Thus, the participants ... • 44. The Influence Of Puritans In New England Puritanism a product of the protestant reformation was founded on the belief that only those who have felt the presence of god should be given church membership. The Puritans beliefs strongly conflicted with the religious systems of England, causing them to search for a new home. The Pilgrims, being some of the first to leave England, traveled to holland for a 12 span and then eventually docked at Plymouth Bay in New England. Being outside of the Virginia Company s territory their permission to settle was void, but settle they did. Following the pilgrims lead, in 1630 close to one thousand puritans sailed the Atlantic to escape persecution and settle in the new world. Due to a population comprised mainly of Puritans, The New England colonies were founded upon religious values.
