The Main Forces That Transitioned Europe Toward Modernity
Ngo
Humanities 4314
Midterm: October 12, 2014
Isser Woloch suggests that the key forces that transitioned Europe toward modernity are associated
with four different developments which coincided with and reinforced each other in final decades of
the eighteenth century: (1) rising population; (2) increased agricultural productivity; (3) a vast increase
in commerce, particularly in the exploitation of their colonies by Britain and France; and (4) the
expansion of textile manufacturing and the beginnings of its structural transformation in England
(113).
Population Growth
Prior to the Europe s sustained growth, Europe struggled as far as keeping growth steady flowing;
with that being said, as growth of population would reach its exponential, the population would
shortly reach a downfall. The result of contagious diseases, crop failure, and the aftermath of war such
as the Thirty Years War had altogether been the cause of a depopulated community.
The fluctuation of population may be seen when one looks at the sixteenth century and the
seventeenth century; for example, sixteenth century Europe had a rise in population while seventeenth
century Europe suffered a significant decline in numbers for population. Europe s population suffered
a downfall when the prices of grain and flour had risen following the law of supply and demand;
facing the wraths of high prices and short supply, people would soon become undernourished and
starving, possibly trying to fend off hunger by

a lot of women cannot get away from. Sex trafficking is the second largest criminal activity in the

promise of a better future, abduction, or false job promises. The victims are force to do whatever they

Ciudad Juarez is a city known at the future city to the United States. It is right on the border of Texas,
near El Paso. The United States believes that Ciudad Juarez is the future because it allows big
factories to produce in Mexico and have easy access to America to ship their goods to sell. On top of
easy access, Mexico does not have the same minimum wage limit so big businesses are allowed to get
very cheap labor, which allows the product to be sold cheaper. In reality Ciudad Juarez is one of the
most dangerous cities in the world due to the cartels and police. Since 1993 a pattern of femicides
(killing of women) estimates about 400 were women killed between the ages of 11 24 (Stacy L.
Mallicoat, 2012, p246). Even though the United States thinks this city is working out for the best; but
it is a huge poverty town whose main production is trafficking women and drugs. Femicides have
been linked to larger social issues like masculine identity and allowing females to enter the workforce.
Some countries believe it is okay for a guy to be violent against a woman. Also when a woman enters
the work force it can cause a threat to men masculinity. To help allow women to enter the work force
without the men feeling that they are taking over their jobs they can open up more jobs for men.
Trafficking is only going to keep being a huge problem unless people get together and really

Technological Advancements In Health Care
Technological advancements over the last hundred years have allowed health care systems around the
world to better diagnose, manage and treat illness than was ever thought possible. One crucial
machine that has improved patient diagnosis and outcome on soft body tissue injuries or disease is
magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) (Al Harbi 2016, 1 2). In 2003, scientists Paul Lauterbur and Peter
Mansfield were awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for inventing magnetic resonance imaging
(Collins 2016, 259). They recognized that by using a strong magnet to produce a stable and intense
magnetic field, gradient coils to produce a variable field and radio frequency coils to transmit energy,
that they could produce an image of the body s soft tissues (Collins

Teaching Styles And Methods Rather Than Learning
This class was very interesting, and different from other youth ministry classes that I have taken. In
this class we discussed more about teaching styles and methods rather than learning about how to deal
with adolescents. For me this class really helped me to become more confident that I can be a youth
minister. To help relate this experience for me into a paper I will discuss the different historical
elements of how to religiously teach, the learning styles, and some of the things that I will take with
me as I go out into the field. The history of religious education is very intense; according to Models of
Religious Education, religious education starts in the early 19th century . This model is called The
Historic Prototype of Religious Education. This model is concerned with giving more of a divine
message. For me this is not a type of education that I would use. While, I believe that the divinity of
Jesus is important I feel like there is many more things that need to be discussed than the divinity of
Jesus. The next model that Burgess bring up is The Classical Liberal Model of Religious Education,
which comes around at about 1910. This method is focuses on being saved through society. This is a
strange topic because it is hard to think about someone being saved because of society, especially with
today s society. However, what they do is teach children to create a social atmosphere where society
can be saved. This method still steams strange to me

Twin Stereotypes
Splitting Up is Never Easy For most people they have the idea of twins being two peas in a pod or
have a bond that makes them as if they were one. The stereotype is very accurate most twins dress,
talk, and look the same. However if you were to meet my sister and I you would never guess we are
twins. Lauren, my sister does not resemble me at all. We have different facial features, hair, and
personality. When we were very little my mom would dress us alike everyday even our pajamas were
the same. I can still remember our mom dressing us for the first day of school. The overalls were a
charcoal grey with our favorite little mouse with a pretty bright red bow in her hair. Along with our
clothes matching we also had to have our hair fixed into

How Music Can Help Us Find Our Identity Essay
Ones identity is something greatly important to a person. An identity makes us who we are, combining
our nationality, ethnicity, race, class, religion, and gender, a complex mixture that involves many
factors. This is whom we are, what we are made of. One tool to show identity or more than just show,
the means by which identity is created, is music. We constantly hear musical metaphors such as find
your voice or march to the rhythm of your own drum simple putting music can help us find our
identity. Music can construct, represent and portray ones identity, showing others and our self who we
are and what makes our identity.
Coming from a western society, musical identity can often become very clouded. Music is usually
produced for a global audience in western culture and intended to top the charts, meaning it can be
difficult to find one identity in this music. Saying this doesn t mean that music wont play a role in
ones identity in western culture, on contrary music makes its way into many parts of who we are.
From personal experience music has influenced who I spend time with, as a community is created
with people who share musical preferences with myself. Another example comes from the University
of Glasgow, they preformed a number of studies on music and identity, finding that the music you
relate to from your teenage years is music that stays with you throughout your life, making it a part of
your identity. Residing in a western culture, we are familiar with the

Negative Effects of Title Ix
Title IX Slowly Killing Men s Athletics This past June marked the 40th anniversary of Title IX, a
United States law stating that no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded
from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education
program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. Although the wide spectrum in which Title
IX covers includes many educational issues, its application to NCAA athletics has especially been
confounded, because, unlike most educational institutions, athletic programs are gender segregated by
sport. In terms of intercollegiate athletics, Title IX essentially states that that all academic institutes of
higher education are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, by competing in collegiate athletics, one better learns how to work with a team in order
to achieve a common goal. This is a valuable skill that is necessary in the work force, as well as many
other aspects of life. Also, college sports teach discipline, time management, and provide student
athletes with great tools, such as tutors, in order to help achieve their academic potential. As stated
previously, women have a much lower interest in competing in athletics, statistically speaking. For
example, high schools must also obey the regulations put into play by Title IX by offering the same
number of sports teams for each gender, thus giving high school students equal opportunities to
participate in athletics. However, even though both male and females are offered the same
opportunities, 1.4 million fewer females choose to compete in high school sports than males. Based on
recent reports from the 2010 11 academic year from the state high school athletic associations from all
50 states, sports participation among genders is approximately 4.5 million boys, or 60% of total
participation, as compared to approximately 3.1 million girls, or only 40% of total participation.

Thomas Kuhn s Theory Of Scientific Discovery
The reason someone writes is in order to try and get a message or an idea across. For some topics its
easier than others, but when you re trying and prove the whole idea of discovery wrong it may be
more difficult. Thomas Kuhn writes Historical Structure of Scientific Discovery in an attempt to try
and convey his message that the timeline role of discovery is wrong. He denies the idea about how
some discoveries are misleading and make it seem they were found in a single moment. When you
write you must assume that anyone can read it, so you have to keep your audience in mind. Different
articles of science will bring in all kinds of readers. Not only was he writing to historians and
scientists, but to the general public, so he needed to structure his writing to appeal his audience. Kuhn
starts his project by letting readers know his purpose, he denies the idea of how an individual made a
discovery at any moment. He opens up the reading to show what he finds wrong, so the reader can
begin to paint a picture in their head. He gives his opinion on discovery and writes what he believes to
be true. He makes an attempt to put the reader in his place and see things from his input. When a
writer is able to put a reader in their shoes it becomes easier to perused them. What s different about
Kuhn s writing is the way he structures it. He breaks up topics into different subcategories each having
a subtitle. He lists off examples of discoveries that help to prove his point such as:

A Comparison of Irony in Crime and Punishment and A...
Use of Irony in Crime and Punishment and A Doll s House
There are many links between Crime and Punishment, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and A Doll s House, by
Henrik Isben. Each character goes through many ironic situations. Throughout both of the works
dramatic, situational, and verbal irony are used.
Dramatic irony is used throughout Crime and Punishment. The reader knows that Rodion
Romanovitch Raskolnikov killed the pawnbroker, Alyona Ivanovna, and her sister, Lizaveta Ivanovna.
A quote to support this is,
He took the axe right out, swung it up in both hands, barely conscious of what he was doing, and
almost without effort, almost effort, almost mechanically, brought the butt of it down on the old
woman s head. (Dostoyevsky ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In A Doll s House the reader is aware that Nora borrowed money from Krogstad without her husband
s permission. Nora also forged her father s name to gain the money. She says, You don t know all. I
forged a name. (Isben 44) In the following conversation between Nora and Christine it is clearly stated
that Torvald does not know of Nora s actions: Mrs. Linde. And since then have you never told your
secret to your husband? Nora. Good heavens, no! (Isben 13)
Another example of dramatic irony in A Doll s House is when Nora wants to practice a dance called
the Tarantella. When Torvald goes to look in the letter box Nora says, Torvald please don t. There is
nothing in there. (Isben 46) The reader knows that Nora has not forgotten the dance. The reader knows
this when Torvald goes to check the mail and Nora begins to play the Tarantella. Nora then says, I can
t dance to morrow if I don t practise with you. (Isben 46) The reader knows that all Nora is trying to
do is keep Torvald from reading the mail which contains a letter from Krogstad.
Situational irony is also used throughout the two works. In Crime and Punishment Raskolnikov is the
one who murdered the two sisters. It was totally unexpected when Nikolai came to

Discrete Wavelet Transform for Compressing and Decompressing the Speech Signal Bhavana Pujari1,
Prof. S.S.Gundal2 Abstract: The original digital speech signal contains tremendous measure of
memory, the main concept for the speech compression algorithm is presented here, in which bit rate of
the speech signal is reduced with maintaining signal quality for storage, memory saving or
transmission over the long distance. The concentration of this project is to compact the digital speech
signal using Discrete Wavelet Transform and reconstruct same signal using inverse transform, in
.NET. The algorithm of Compression is oriented in three basic operation, they are apply the DWT,
Threshold, Encode the signal for transmission Analysis of compression procedure is done by
comparing the original speech and reconstructed signal. The main advantages of DWT provides
variable compression factor. Keywords: Bit rate, Compression, Decompression, Discrete Wavelet

a compact representation of audio signals for efficient transmission over band limited wired and
wireless channels and/or storage. The procedure of Compression is done by transferring an original
signal to alternate compressed signal that consist of small amount of memory. Compression is
conceivable simply because information in input data

Imagine you were stuck in a world where everyone is out to get you. Everyone you know is infected
with a rage that makes them target you, and only you. They will go through whatever it takes to rip
you to shreds, even if it kills them. The novel starts off in quite a sickening way, jumping straight into
the plot and describing a boy getting brutally murdered by his mother and sister. They didn t care that
it was his birthday, they only wanted his blood. Through the next few chapters we are greeted by the
three main characters, Daisy, Cal, and Brick. These people have one thing in common, and it s that

Economic Recession In Gone Girl
A central point of the story in Gone Girl is the animosity between Nick and Amy in their marriage.
There are several reasons why these negative feelings exist, but the recession which occurred in the
early 1990s is the first in a long list. The time of Nick and Amy s mutual unemployment, shown
through various memories and diary entries, is remembered by both of the main characters as the point
when their marriage began to degrade. The novel s story has a tendency to exaggerate average
situations into worst case scenarios. Nick and Amy s marriage was perfect in the beginning, but after
the recession grew into a twisted and dysfunctional relationship. This exemplifies the effects of
economic recession and unemployment can have on people. Before

Questions and Answers on US Health Care Statistics
Exercise 40 Questions Questions to be Graded EXERCISE According to the Introduction, what
categories were reported to be statistically significant? The introduction reported that the statistically
significant categories were income, health status of adults and children, working status of adults,
education, and the utilization of health care. In Table 1, is the No. in household reported as statistically
significant among the three groups (uninsured, Medicaid, and privately insured)? Provide a rationale
for your answer. The number of people in the household, as reported in Table 1, was not found to be
statistically significant at any of the significance levels (p values). This means that the null hypothesis
fails to be rejected. Should the null hypothesis for Marital Status (%) be rejected? Provide a rationale
for your answer. The percentage of individuals married across the various groups differed
significantly, with a p value less than .001. This means that the researchers can reject the null
hypothesis in favor of the alternative hypothesis (that there are group differences). How many null
hypotheses were rejected in the Salsberry (2003) study? Provide a rationale for your answer. A null
hypothesis can be rejected when a significant chi square value is found in this study. This means that
five of the null hypotheses in the study were rejected, as the significant X2 values indicated that there

Troy University Case Study
Troy University has grown and it needs to be able to sustain that growth. In order to do that it needs to
resolve the issues it encounters along the way, one prominent complaint among the student body and
professors is the need for improvements with the parking availability at the university. I believe the
university will fail the students and faculty by not providing anything and focusing on other areas
instead. The university is focused more on improving the revenue flow than the experience of students
and faculty that provide its revenue.
As the school has grown into what it is today there has not been enough of a focus on providing
parking. It has reached the point where the sides of roads can be lined with vehicles that have been ...

The sheer volume of students the university has exceeds the number it can provide housing for, thus
making housing a priority over parking. With a limited budget the issue could take longer to resolve
fully, another issue could be the space required for a lot or garage. Troy University also has a bus
system that helps off campus students with transportation but the times they arrive can vary greatly.
The university is exceeding what it can be expected to support and with that all aspects of student life
can be at risk. Even campus involvement suffering because so many are forced off campus for
housing. If the school were to resolve both issues it could see a happier populace.
The university has options to fix the issue, but will likely neglect the issue as it does not directly
contribute to the university financially instead they will prioritize new dorms and a new recreation
facility. One option that the university could implement is a freshman driving ban, this would likely
add strain on the bus system and demand a rework of it, but the buses are not used by a majority of
students and a rework of it could see demand rise which would be beneficial and maybe even justify
an expansion of it. The university could see backlash in response to such a policy, but campus
involvement would likely improve. This solution would also see the space that the university needs to
expand be available for other projects and not used by massive lots or garages,

I am going to describe what a pilgrim would do if they went to Lourdes. I will explain why Lourdes is

Then I will explain the reasons why some Christians choose to make a pilgrimage and the ways in

Bernadette visited the cave often to see the vision. The vision told Bernadette to build a church here
knowing that Lourdes would soon become a place of pilgrimage.
The vision also knew it would bring a great impact when meditating there because Christians may feel

The last thing the vision probably told Bernadette was to push away a rock where a small puddle lay

The story is the main reason why Christians go to Lourdes.

Theme Of Hally In Athol Fugard s Master Harold
It s not fair, is it ... What, chum ... a nigger s arse ... and then we both have a good laugh (55). Hally, a
young, white teenager in Apartheid Era South Africa tells this joke to Sam, his black friend and father
figure, almost irreparably ruining their relationship in Athol Fugard s 1982 play, Master Harold ... and
the boys. Sam and Willie, another middle aged black man, work for Hally s mother at her Tea Shop
while pursuing amateur dance on the side. Willie isn t as close to Hally as Sam is, nor is he as wise,
and his broken relationship with his dance partner, Hilda, is analogous to Hally s troubles with his
own father, who is an alcoholic cripple. These characters all have grievous flaws that appear nearly
irredeemable at first. In his play, Athol Fugard conveys that it is never too late to change for the better
using symbolism, metaphor, and dynamic characters. The author uses a park bench to symbolize
racism, but Sam uses it to explain the possibility of Hally s redemption. The bench is where Hally sat
after Sam took him kite flying in the park; Sam does not sit down, instead leaving because he had
work to do (30). It becomes obvious that the bench represents racism when Sam reveals it was a
Whites Only bench, and that s why he couldn t stay with Hally (58). Hally s ignorance towards the

The Pros And Cons Of Blue Collar Work
Why is it that blue collar work is looked down on compared to white collar work? There is equal value
in work between the two types of jobs. Blue collar workers are working twice as hard as white collar
workers. They are having to use their hands and their brain to succeed at what they do. Blue collar
workers are not uneducated, they have to be smart to do their job. Also, without blue collar workers,
white collar work would not even exist. A common misconception is that blue collar workers are not
as educated as white collar workers. This is simply untrue, these jobs require workers to be able to
work smart. These workers are not only having to use their hands, but also their brain. In the article,

If this was the case, some of these workers would not be able to do their job, that require smart

education; meaning the type of education, how much, and how long. Some blue collar jobs do require
less education, but the workers are still extremely skilled at what they do. These workers have to be
precise and get their jobs done the right way every time. If all blue collar workers were undereducated,
they would not be able to handle this type of work. There is equal value in blue collar work and white
collar work. Not one type of work is better than the other in the term of value . Blue collar work may
not be as glamorous, but it does not mean it should not be respected. Both types of work require skill,
smartwork, and some form of education. No matter if you are working behind a desk, or at a factory; a

Similarities And Differences Between Merchant Of Venice...
Two of Shakespeare s works, The Merchant of Venice and Twelfth Night, both have a parallel plot
structure which involves a woman disguising herself as a man in order to accomplish some goal. In
the former, Portia disguises herself as a lawyer so as to enter the Duke s court and help her husband s
friend, Antonio, avoid having a pound of his flesh cut off. In the latter, Viola disguises herself as
Cesario so she can enter Duke Orsino s court and work as a page. This parallel structure is further
strengthened by the fact that in both plays, the woman in disguise has to perform some task that
(during Shakespeare s time) was usually performed by a man. Portia has to defend her husband s
friend, Antonio, in court, while Viola has to engage in a sword fight with Sir Andrew. Despite the
many similarities, there is a subtle difference: Portia seems much more confident in her role as a man
when compared to Viola. We see when Portia is effective and confident as a lawyer but Viola is
reluctant to spar with Sir Andrew in a sword fight, and also when she is weary that the Fool has caught
on to her disguise. This difference reflects the theme of challenging prejudice in The Merchant of
Venice, and also reflect the theme of highlighting gender difference in Twelfth Night, which reveals a
lot about both plays as a whole.
Portia shows much confidence as a lawyer in the trial scene (Act 4 Scene 1) of The Merchant of
Venice. For example, she displays great knowledge of the laws of Venice when

Bart Station Analysis
As I walked through Downtown Berkeley, I decided to sit near the Bart Station. I noticed that
everyone around me had somewhere to go because it felt like everyone was in a rush. For example, I
noticed that people were jaywalking the streets. As I sat down, I noticed that there were other students
from my class that sat down near me as well. In addition, I also noticed Tak was sitting behind me,
eating his sandwich. As I was sitting down and looked at those who were walking, I realized that it
was mostly caucasians that were passing by, many dressed well, some were even wearing suits. Most
of the people that walked by were students and adults and some of them were in groups and some

As I look around me, I noticed the buildings that surrounded me. There was a lot of grey buildings and

I live extremely close to Downtown Berkeley, I see familiar faces for the past two years and I wonder
how they do it, how they live, and I imagine what they must go through everyday. However, my
thoughts got interrupted when there was a group of teenagers that walked passed me and they were

Jews In Christendom
In the chapter the legal position of Jews in Christendom, Mark Cohen argues that the Jews did not
have rights under the Jewry law which was enacted by Christians. The Jewry law was complex
because it was enacted from different sources and changed over time. The Jewry Law was part of the
Theodosian Code, which mixed the tolerations and restrictions. Some laws in the Theodosian code
showed that the Jewish people were protected against the wanton assault. Later, under the Pope
Gregory s regulation, the Jews got more toleration. However, this period of toleration did not last long.
In the thirteenth century, Christians began to enhance the restrictions and exclusion to the Jews and the
protection to the Jews attenuated accordingly. The Conon Law and Secular Jewry Law also indicated
the negative attitude toward the Jewish people. The serfdom of Jewish people showed that they did not
have freedom, but they could earn freedom by unchallenging the authorities. The laws sometimes gave
protection to the Jews, but overall it was not fair to the Jews.
Cohen uses both primary sources ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other sources I have read also point to the fact that the Jews were under Christian s control. The
Jews in the Medieval World shows some laws against Jewish people. For example, in Medieval
Spanish Law and the Jews, I have read one law which is that no Jews can hold any office or
employment by which he may be able to oppress Christians. It means that the Jews could not have the
privilege like they had before the God was crucified. Also, Church, State, and Jew in the Middle Ages
verifies the idea of Cohen s; the law number ten writes that it is not permissible for the Jews to buy a
Christian slave (65). It shows that in the medieval world, Jews could not have a Christian slave, but
the Christians could have a Jewish slave. It is an indication that the status of the Jews were lower than

Vertical Integration In Hollywood Industry
With the coming of sound came the birth of Hollywood. As Hollywood progressed, stars were made
and so were millions. But these millions of dollars were being given to the top 8 companies in the
industry, The Big Five: Warner Bros., MGM/Loew s, Paramount, 20th Century Fox, and RKO, and
The Little Three: United Artists, Columbia, and Universal. These companies controlled how their
films were made, where they were shown, which films played first and for how long, a clear example
of vertical integration. Most of them bought a chain of theaters, only playing their respective
companies films, which deeply angered independent theater owners. The independents saw millions of
dollars shoot directly to Hollywood theaters, away from their own box offices. ... Show more content

After the 1960s and the First Golden Age of Hollywood Movie Making, there is a surge of films that
are linked to directors and/or actors and not the company. There was no more The Big Five and The

aftermath of the court case ushered in the Film School Generation. During this era and years after
individuals, not companies, were one to watch. In 1972, Francis Ford Coppola s The Godfather put

Analysis Of Elizabeth Barrette Browning s Sonnets From The...
Throughout Elizabeth Barrette Browning s Sonnets from the Portuguese, the speaker expresses her
thoughts on love. Despite the myriad of ways that the speaker chooses to express her understanding of
love, it is comprised of qualities existing outside of the world s inherently corrupt nature. The speaker
in Elizabeth Barrette Browning s Sonnets from the Portuguese views the world and her desires
through the self sacrificing and pure nature of love and values it above physical beauty and simple
societal endearment.
The speaker s perspective on the world and love are intertwined. When looking at the world, she sees
the earth as a proponent of love, aiding in the battle to defeat all that desires to harm love. In Sonnet

than pinning for heavenly wonders that are not a part of her current world.
The speaker not only understand the role of love in the world, but also understands the nature of love
to be self sacrificing and pure. She openly rejects a love founded outside of love and requests that love
be primarily for the sake of love itself. This idea is expressed in detail in Sonnet XIV. Many people
desire for love to be defined by aspects regarding their character or a part of who they are on the
inside. However, the speaker rejects this idea and desires for something deeper in her own
relationships and love life. The speaker requests that she not be loved by her appearance and also not
by her internal qualities. Ultimately, the speaker understands the brevity of one s appearance and even
personality as she addresses her lover to say for these things in themselves, Behold, may, Be changed
or change for thee (95). The beauty that a couple holds dear or even the intellect that a person admires
can evolve into a new being over time and will leave the person who originally embarked on that
relationship disappointed because the reason they felt love has changed or dissolved. However, the
speaker s solution to this dilemma is to love only except for love s sake only (95). By loving for the
purpose of love itself, a

Example Of Prospect Theory
Prospect theory is a theory of decision making under conditions of risk. The theory is best known for
its hypothesis that individuals are risk averse with respect to gains and risk acceptant with respect to
losses and for its emphasis on the importance of the actor s framing of decisions around a reference
point.
Prospect theory is one of a number of alternative theories of individual choice that behavioral decision
theorists have constructed in an attempt to integrate observed anomalies in expected utility theory into
a more descriptively accurate theory of choice using an S shaped value function. The S function curve
of the value is derived from the experimental results and lacks a complete theoretical explanation. But

Prospect theory is considered substantive rationality rather than procedural rationality. Substantive
rationality is the optimization of a given goal under given conditions and constraints, and is a function
of goals and situational constraints but not intervening reasoning process. While procedural rationality
focuses on the decision making process. Therefore, the prospect theory cannot be adapted to the
cognitive rational debate . The evaluation stage in the prospect theory is more similar to the rational
economic theory. But it is the theory editing and framing have more in common with cognitive
process theories. To conclude, the prospect theory research program is a limitation of the theory but
not a fatal flaw.
Shortcomings of Prospect Theory
a) The descriptive generalizations on which prospect theory is based emerge from static conditions of
experimental research in highly structured, non interactive laboratory settings make it difficult to
extrapolate its findings to the complex world of international relations where the consequences of one
s actions are partially a function of the actions of another.

because of framing, loss aversion, or any other anomalies of expected utility

A Research on Team and Group Communication Processes
Team and Group Communication Processes:
The systematic description on the nature of the processes of communication in several areas including
businesses and organizations is known as communication theory. Organizations and businesses are
required to understand the concept of communication theory because the achievement of
organizational and business goals is dependent on effective communication. Communication theory
focuses on examining the process of transmitting information from the sender to the receiver.
Furthermore, communication theory analyzed the various means for transfer of information from one
medium to the other. As people across the globe have been working with several communication
theories, these theories provide an abstract understanding of the process of communication.
A theoretical explanation of communication processes is usually provided when professionals across
various fields talk about their communication strategies, types, and effectiveness (Dainton, 2004). In
the healthcare sector, primary health care team members and other caregivers or service providers are
usually required to communicate effectively with one another in order to enhance the quality of
service. This is largely because there is a direct relationship between communication and team or
group effectiveness.

Grief, Bereavement And Disenfranchised Grief
Abstract
This paper examines the implications of grief, bereavement and disenfranchised grief. Grief in
response to a loss is a unique experience and is expressed distinctively by every individual. It is
helpful to have models that outline the stages of grief that need to be experienced in order to achieve
acceptance. However, their utility is limited by the reality that grief is immeasurably complex and
individualized. Veterans and children are two groups at risk of developing disenfranchised grief.
Therefore, it will be important for nurses to be able to identify those suffering with disenfranchised
grief or other forms of maladaptive grief so appropriate intervention may be employed.
The Role and Impact of Grief, Bereavement, and Disenfranchised Grief
Loss is a phenomenon that is experienced by all. Death is experienced by family members as a unique
and elevated form of loss which is modulated by potent stages of grief. Inevitably, everyone will lose
someone with whom they had a personal relationship and emotional connection and thus experience
an aftermath that can generally be described as grief. Although bereavement, which is defined as a
state of sorrow over the death or departure of a loved one, is a universal experience it varies widely
across gender, age, and circumstance (definitions.net, 2015). Indeed the formalities and phases
associated with bereavement have been recounted and theorized in literature for years. These
philosophies are quite diverse but

The Importance Of Opportunity In America
Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776 for the citizens of the nation to
become strong and united. He hoped that equality, rights, liberty, opportunity, and democracy would
prosper and be sustained. The only question now is have Americans lived up to these ideals as
Jefferson intended us too? Well, although we Americans are moving closer to the ideal of opportunity,
we are also moving further from equality and rights. Opportunity has been constantly growing for
citizens, yet their rights have been diminishing. In addition, equality, specifically racial and gender,
has been causing many issues all around the world. Thomas Jefferson intended for Americans to live
up to all the five ideals, but that has yet to be completely done.
Opportunity has thrived for Americans for many years now, which is a major contrast from the 1930 s.
In the 1930 s, many Americans were going through a major economic collapse, also known as the
great depression. During the great depression, many people were jobless and living on the streets,
since their families were evicted from their homes. Not to mention that the average income dropped
about 40% during this harsh time period. Since many were not making any money, opportunity was
limited to them. As you can see from Place Card G, families were left very miserable and in deep
poverty. You can tell that the mother s clothes and face are very dirty in the picture, as are her children

What Is The Purpose Of Animals In Entertainment
Animals in Entertainment When people think of going to the circus, the first thing that they usually
think of is seeing animals doing amazing tricks that they wish their family cat or dog could do. The
thing that most people do not know, is that these animals are being treated very cruelly so that circus
owners can make money off of people coming to see these animals in action. All over the world,
animals are being used for the purpose of human entertainment. When going to the circus, most
people never stop and think about what really is happening to the animals featured in this form of
entertainment. Some people may even think that these animals are living a great life, they are always
being taken care of by humans, they have a place to live, and they never have to worry about predators
or finding their own prey. The truth is, the animals that are being utilized for the purpose of human
entertainment are living horrible lives and are not suited to live in the environments that they are being
placed in. Humans who are surrounding themselves with these animals also are putting themselves in
severe danger. The animals that are part of the circus are not supposed to be in captivity, they are
supposed to be living in the wild where they are able to fight and fend for themselves, not depend on
others to survive. Eventually, an animal s natural instincts will come out, forcing the animal to want to
attack and harm someone. What is worst about taking animals into captivity, is

Why Is Occipital Lobe Important

The occipital lobe is very much important to able to correctly understand what your eyes are seeing.
These lobes have to be fast to process the information that our eyes are sending. Similar to how the

that we are able to understand the meaning. If our occipital lobe was impaired, or injured we would
not be able to correctly process visual signals, thus visual confusion would result.

Ice to the Eskimos
Spolestra articulates 19 principles or ground rules of jump start marketing, which are:
1. You ve got to want to clip on the wires and turn up the juice. In other words you and your team
must be highly motivated to try new things to reposition your product.
2. Don t fool yourself into thinking you re somebody else accept the realistic limitations of your core
product or service, and build from there.
3. Increase the frequency of purchases by your customers. No matter how poor your current product or
service, you must have some customers or clients. One key strategic dimension that you should be
thinking about is how to augment and reposition your product in order to sell more to this group.
4. Get the name and address of the end ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Copies were then given to the immediate customer who could then pass one along to his or her boss.
14. Run interference for your budding superstars. People who share a passion and a talent for jump
start marketing are invaluable, and should be nurtured and encouraged within your organization.
15. Make it too good of a deal on purpose. This is a fundamental point. Spolestra maintains that you
must find some way of repositioning or reformulating your product or service to make it something
that your potential customers simply cannot refuse. With the New Jersey Nets, one of the ways they
did this was to package a barbecue family dinner and drinks with the game. They managed their costs
so that the dinner alone was a bargain for the ticket price, to say nothing of the game being thrown in
as part of the deal. Tickets were sold by the thousands, the games were standing room only, and the
franchise made lots of money. Again, we see this approach of de emphasizing the core product (the
quality of the team), and augmenting and repositioning an enhanced product in its place.
16. Feel free to butt into other departments. Jump start marketing cannot be confined to the marketing
or sales department alone. Because it involves (sometimes drastically) reformulating the product or
service, it must cut across the various departments in the organization. The people who do this may
run into problems, and this is where rule # 14 comes

two different classes of antidepressants at the same time. That way they ll affect a wider range of brain
chemicals linked to mood. These chemicals are neurotransmitters that include dopamine, serotonin
and norepinephrine. Add a medication generally used for another condition. Your doctor may
prescribe a medication that s generally used for another mental or physical health disorder, along with
an antidepressant. This approach, known as augmentation, may include antipsychotics, mood
stabilizers (lithium or anti seizure medications), anti anxiety medications, thyroid hormone, beta
blockers, stimulants or other drugs. Consider the cytochrome P450 (CYP450) genotyping test. This
test checks for specific genes that indicate how well your body can process (metabolize) a medication.
Because of inherited (genetic) traits that cause variations in certain P450 enzymes, medications may
affect each person differently.

The Prevalence Of Hepatitis C
It has been observed that drug users are at great threat for HCV infections. HCV (Hepatitis C Virus) is
more easily spread than HIV (Human Immunodefiency Virus), because its prevalence is greater than
HIV. According to Macias et.al (2008), it has been observed that non injection drug users have higher
rates of hepatitis C infection in comparison to overall population. They attributed this to following
reasons; sexual behaviors, tattoo or piercing materials, nail or hair clippers, and razors. Some studies
have established that non injector drug users do not inject due to fear of overdose, family problem,
decline in income and health issues such as collapsed veins, scars from abscesses, fear of needles and
overdosing (Sotheran et al., 1999). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The non injector drug users are involved in risky sexual behavior at earlier age of their lives and due
to their circumstances are not aware of the consequences especially with regards to HCV infection.
Krauss et.al (2006) conducted their studies in teenagers and youth groups of New York City. Their
study showed that 21% were sexually active and had one sexual experience at least at a sexual event
in a group setting . They are not aware of the consequences and get involve in unhealthy and risky
behavior at earlier age. Observations have been made that non injector drug users are involved in risky
behavior such as unprotected sex and exchanging sex for drugs or money. These drug users get high
on these drugs and eventually have unprotected sex. Need of money for home, family, food or drugs
also lead them to unprotected and risky sexual behaviour. Sanchez et.al (2002), reported that
infections related to risky sex behaviour is elevated in people who use crack. This could be attributed
to the social network of these people. The behavior could be subjective to communication and
exposure to individuals in networks who are involved in risky behaviors (Neaigus et al., 2006).
Transition to injecting drug users from non injector is another concern predicted by researchers. The
transition is not difficult for this group of drug users. Some people would inject for a while and

Coca Cola Vs. Pepsi Cola Essay
The smooth bold refreshing taste as the cold bubbles fizz on your tongue and head down your throat
and into your stomach. Coca Cola is something the average American has drank in his or her lifetime.
This has been in part due to the remarkably intelligent advertisements that were made in post 1945
America. While having emphasis on its refreshing cool taste and convenience, these ads created a
certain attitude with its audience causing the rise in popularity and sales. During this same time Pepsi
was also on the rise competing with Coca Cola. Both Coke and Pepsi used similar strategies but Coca
Cola gave itself a slight edge through innovative technique and the use of lifestyle advertising. Coca
Cola really did create a refreshing beverage but created an ad campaign using refreshing, exciting, and
humorous ads that made your mouth water. Looking at both advertisements as a whole one notices
how all of the ads for both companies are paintings of people, which makes people compare
themselves to something that is not real. At this time many men and women were greatly affected by
these ads. Women particularly would notice the unrealistic waistlines and flawless skin and tone. This
caused them to become self conscience about their bodies because they believed those images to be
something they were to copy. This technique plays with the psyche of our society, which is clever but
very controversial. Established in 1886 and 1889, Coca Cola and Pepsi Co., respectively, were among

Bullies Vs Bystanders
Your clothes are ugly. Your hair is in a mess. Gross, you need to shave. The smallest things could
make such a big impact on someone. A lot of people are bullied in different ways like, cyber, physical,
or verbal. Bullies are worse than bystanders because they are the ones who start doing the damage on
someone. For an example, some people have never experienced bullying, and so when they do they
start making the victim s life worse and it may be suicide. Bullies also make the person feel bad about
their self. These were just a couple of things. First of all, bullies are the worse than bystanders. They
are the ones who starts the cruel bullying. Many bullies start bullying to feel like their in a group so
they can connect with other

  • 2. The Main Forces That Transitioned Europe Toward Modernity Ngo Humanities 4314 Midterm: October 12, 2014 Isser Woloch suggests that the key forces that transitioned Europe toward modernity are associated with four different developments which coincided with and reinforced each other in final decades of the eighteenth century: (1) rising population; (2) increased agricultural productivity; (3) a vast increase in commerce, particularly in the exploitation of their colonies by Britain and France; and (4) the expansion of textile manufacturing and the beginnings of its structural transformation in England (113). Population Growth Prior to the Europe s sustained growth, Europe struggled as far as keeping growth steady flowing; with that being said, as growth of population would reach its exponential, the population would shortly reach a downfall. The result of contagious diseases, crop failure, and the aftermath of war such as the Thirty Years War had altogether been the cause of a depopulated community. The fluctuation of population may be seen when one looks at the sixteenth century and the seventeenth century; for example, sixteenth century Europe had a rise in population while seventeenth century Europe suffered a significant decline in numbers for population. Europe s population suffered a downfall when the prices of grain and flour had risen following the law of supply and demand; facing the wraths of high prices and short supply, people would soon become undernourished and starving, possibly trying to fend off hunger by ... The United States believes that Ciudad Juarez is the future because it allows big factories to produce in Mexico and have easy access to America to ship their goods to sell. On top of easy access, Mexico does not have the same minimum wage limit so big businesses are allowed to get very cheap labor, which allows the product to be sold cheaper. • 7. Teaching Styles And Methods Rather Than Learning This class was very interesting, and different from other youth ministry classes that I have taken. In this class we discussed more about teaching styles and methods rather than learning about how to deal with adolescents. For me this class really helped me to become more confident that I can be a youth minister. To help relate this experience for me into a paper I will discuss the different historical elements of how to religiously teach, the learning styles, and some of the things that I will take with me as I go out into the field. The history of religious education is very intense; according to Models of Religious Education, religious education starts in the early 19th century . This model is called The Historic Prototype of Religious Education. This model is concerned with giving more of a divine message. For me this is not a type of education that I would use. While, I believe that the divinity of Jesus is important I feel like there is many more things that need to be discussed than the divinity of Jesus. The next model that Burgess bring up is The Classical Liberal Model of Religious Education, which comes around at about 1910. This method is focuses on being saved through society. This is a strange topic because it is hard to think about someone being saved because of society, especially with today s society. However, what they do is teach children to create a social atmosphere where society can be saved. This method still steams strange to me ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An identity makes us who we are, combining our nationality, ethnicity, race, class, religion, and gender, a complex mixture that involves many factors. This is whom we are, what we are made of. One tool to show identity or more than just show, the means by which identity is created, is music. We constantly hear musical metaphors such as find your voice or march to the rhythm of your own drum simple putting music can help us find our identity. Music can construct, represent and portray ones identity, showing others and our self who we are and what makes our identity. Coming from a western society, musical identity can often become very clouded. Music is usually produced for a global audience in western culture and intended to top the charts, meaning it can be difficult to find one identity in this music. Saying this doesn t mean that music wont play a role in ones identity in western culture, on contrary music makes its way into many parts of who we are. From personal experience music has influenced who I spend time with, as a community is created with people who share musical preferences with myself. Another example comes from the University of Glasgow, they preformed a number of studies on music and identity, finding that the music you relate to from your teenage years is music that stays with you throughout your life, making it a part of your identity. • 11. Thomas Kuhn s Theory Of Scientific Discovery The reason someone writes is in order to try and get a message or an idea across. For some topics its easier than others, but when you re trying and prove the whole idea of discovery wrong it may be more difficult. Thomas Kuhn writes Historical Structure of Scientific Discovery in an attempt to try and convey his message that the timeline role of discovery is wrong. He denies the idea about how some discoveries are misleading and make it seem they were found in a single moment. When you write you must assume that anyone can read it, so you have to keep your audience in mind. Different articles of science will bring in all kinds of readers. Not only was he writing to historians and scientists, but to the general public, so he needed to structure his writing to appeal his audience. Kuhn starts his project by letting readers know his purpose, he denies the idea of how an individual made a discovery at any moment. He opens up the reading to show what he finds wrong, so the reader can begin to paint a picture in their head. He gives his opinion on discovery and writes what he believes to be true. He makes an attempt to put the reader in his place and see things from his input. When a writer is able to put a reader in their shoes it becomes easier to perused them. What s different about Kuhn s writing is the way he structures it. He breaks up topics into different subcategories each having a subtitle. He lists off examples of discoveries that help to prove his point such as: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sam and Willie, another middle aged black man, work for Hally s mother at her Tea Shop while pursuing amateur dance on the side. Willie isn t as close to Hally as Sam is, nor is he as wise, and his broken relationship with his dance partner, Hilda, is analogous to Hally s troubles with his own father, who is an alcoholic cripple. • 25. Similarities And Differences Between Merchant Of Venice... Two of Shakespeare s works, The Merchant of Venice and Twelfth Night, both have a parallel plot structure which involves a woman disguising herself as a man in order to accomplish some goal. In the former, Portia disguises herself as a lawyer so as to enter the Duke s court and help her husband s friend, Antonio, avoid having a pound of his flesh cut off. In the latter, Viola disguises herself as Cesario so she can enter Duke Orsino s court and work as a page. This parallel structure is further strengthened by the fact that in both plays, the woman in disguise has to perform some task that (during Shakespeare s time) was usually performed by a man. Portia has to defend her husband s friend, Antonio, in court, while Viola has to engage in a sword fight with Sir Andrew. Despite the many similarities, there is a subtle difference: Portia seems much more confident in her role as a man when compared to Viola. We see when Portia is effective and confident as a lawyer but Viola is reluctant to spar with Sir Andrew in a sword fight, and also when she is weary that the Fool has caught on to her disguise. This difference reflects the theme of challenging prejudice in The Merchant of Venice, and also reflect the theme of highlighting gender difference in Twelfth Night, which reveals a lot about both plays as a whole. • 27. Jews In Christendom In the chapter the legal position of Jews in Christendom, Mark Cohen argues that the Jews did not have rights under the Jewry law which was enacted by Christians. The Jewry law was complex because it was enacted from different sources and changed over time. The Jewry Law was part of the Theodosian Code, which mixed the tolerations and restrictions. Some laws in the Theodosian code showed that the Jewish people were protected against the wanton assault. Later, under the Pope Gregory s regulation, the Jews got more toleration. However, this period of toleration did not last long. In the thirteenth century, Christians began to enhance the restrictions and exclusion to the Jews and the protection to the Jews attenuated accordingly. The Conon Law and Secular Jewry Law also indicated the negative attitude toward the Jewish people. The serfdom of Jewish people showed that they did not have freedom, but they could earn freedom by unchallenging the authorities. The laws sometimes gave protection to the Jews, but overall it was not fair to the Jews. Cohen uses both primary sources ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, in Medieval Spanish Law and the Jews, I have read one law which is that no Jews can hold any office or employment by which he may be able to oppress Christians. It means that the Jews could not have the privilege like they had before the God was crucified. Also, Church, State, and Jew in the Middle Ages verifies the idea of Cohen s; the law number ten writes that it is not permissible for the Jews to buy a Christian slave (65). It shows that in the medieval world, Jews could not have a Christian slave, but the Christians could have a Jewish slave. It is an indication that the status of the Jews were lower than that of ... But these millions of dollars were being given to the top 8 companies in the industry, The Big Five: Warner Bros., MGM/Loew s, Paramount, 20th Century Fox, and RKO, and The Little Three: United Artists, Columbia, and Universal. These companies controlled how their films were made, where they were shown, which films played first and for how long, a clear example of vertical integration. She openly rejects a love founded outside of love and requests that love be primarily for the sake of love itself. This idea is expressed in detail in Sonnet XIV. Many people desire for love to be defined by aspects regarding their character or a part of who they are on the inside. However, the speaker rejects this idea and desires for something deeper in her own relationships and love life. The speaker requests that she not be loved by her appearance and also not by her internal qualities. Ultimately, the speaker understands the brevity of one s appearance and even personality as she addresses her lover to say for these things in themselves, Behold, may, Be changed or change for thee (95). Communication theory focuses on examining the process of transmitting information from the sender to the receiver. Furthermore, communication theory analyzed the various means for transfer of information from one medium to the other. As people across the globe have been working with several communication theories, these theories provide an abstract understanding of the process of communication. A theoretical explanation of communication processes is usually provided when professionals across various fields talk about their communication strategies, types, and effectiveness (Dainton, 2004). • 36. Grief, Bereavement And Disenfranchised Grief Abstract This paper examines the implications of grief, bereavement and disenfranchised grief. Grief in response to a loss is a unique experience and is expressed distinctively by every individual. It is helpful to have models that outline the stages of grief that need to be experienced in order to achieve acceptance. However, their utility is limited by the reality that grief is immeasurably complex and individualized. Veterans and children are two groups at risk of developing disenfranchised grief. Therefore, it will be important for nurses to be able to identify those suffering with disenfranchised grief or other forms of maladaptive grief so appropriate intervention may be employed. The Role and Impact of Grief, Bereavement, and Disenfranchised Grief Loss is a phenomenon that is experienced by all. Death is experienced by family members as a unique and elevated form of loss which is modulated by potent stages of grief. Inevitably, everyone will lose someone with whom they had a personal relationship and emotional connection and thus experience an aftermath that can generally be described as grief. Although bereavement, which is defined as a state of sorrow over the death or departure of a loved one, is a universal experience it varies widely across gender, age, and circumstance (definitions.net, 2015). Don t fool yourself into thinking you re somebody else accept the realistic limitations of your core product or service, and build from there. 3. People who share a passion and a talent for jump start marketing are invaluable, and should be nurtured and encouraged within your organization. 15. Make it too good of a deal on purpose. This is a fundamental point. Spolestra maintains that you must find some way of repositioning or reformulating your product or service to make it something that your potential customers simply cannot refuse. With the New Jersey Nets, one of the ways they did this was to package a barbecue family dinner and drinks with the game. They managed their costs so that the dinner alone was a bargain for the ticket price, to say nothing of the game being thrown in as part of the deal. Tickets were sold by the thousands, the games were standing room only, and the franchise made lots of money. Again, we see this approach of de emphasizing the core product (the quality of the team), and augmenting and repositioning an enhanced product in its place. 16. Feel free to butt into other departments. Jump start marketing cannot be confined to the marketing or sales department alone. Because it involves (sometimes drastically) reformulating the product or service, it must cut across the various departments in the organization. Coca Cola is something the average American has drank in his or her lifetime. This has been in part due to the remarkably intelligent advertisements that were made in post 1945 America. While having emphasis on its refreshing cool taste and convenience, these ads created a certain attitude with its audience causing the rise in popularity and sales. During this same time Pepsi was also on the rise competing with Coca Cola. Both Coke and Pepsi used similar strategies but Coca Cola gave itself a slight edge through innovative technique and the use of lifestyle advertising. Coca Cola really did create a refreshing beverage but created an ad campaign using refreshing, exciting, and humorous ads that made your mouth water. Looking at both advertisements as a whole one notices how all of the ads for both companies are paintings of people, which makes people compare themselves to something that is not real. At this time many men and women were greatly affected by these ads. Women particularly would notice the unrealistic waistlines and flawless skin and tone.
