Hospitality Management At Florida International University
INTRODUCTION
According to Professor Marcel R. Escoffier, an Associate Professor in the School of Hospitality and
Tourism Management at Florida International University, Hospitality Management is the largest
business activity in the world. There are nearly 1 million food service operations in the United States,
and nearly three hundred thousand hotels. It is estimated that there are over 1 million hotels and more
than 7 million food service businesses. How this business operates, and its impact on the local
economy varies from country to country, but its importance is undeniable (Escoffier). Information
provided by Buffalo State College located in Buffalo, New York, also reference the hospitality

Many colleges that offer Hospitality Management may also include the option to enroll within a
specific concentration, so that you may gain a specialty . Therefore it s important to have a sense of
what area of hospitality you are interested in, so that you enroll yourself into an appropriate program,
including programs where graduates have been able to secure employment in your interested field and
location. For example, if you have the desire to work as a ski lodge manager, you may want to make
sure you enroll into a school that provides the focus of the hotel industry and potential internship
opportunities within ski country vs. the beaches in Florida.
In effort to continue a higher learning education within the field of Hospitality, which may increase
my career options as I enter the workforce, I have reviewed three colleges within the New York State
area that provides a Bachelor s degree within Hospitality Management. The purpose of this evaluation
and comparison is to provide the most feasible and economic option available for me to pursue a
Bachelor Degree within Hospitality in a timely fashion and at minimal cost. Therefore my criteria for
this comparison includes the following:
Type of Concentration that is offered
Tuition Cost
Acceptance of Transferred Credits
Testing/Entrance Requirement (i.e. GPA, GRE, Math Requirement)
Career Track Opportunities Accreditations
The three schools that have been reviewed are

Examples Of Obstacles In Like Water For Chocolate
Throughout Like Water for Chocolate Tita faces may obstacles. These obstacles include tradition and
society with Mama Elena being the biggest catalyst. Tita was forced to stay in the kitchen and take
care of her mom all her life, without the choice of getting married. These obstacles became roadblocks
that forced Tita s quest to find her identity and freedom almost achievable. In the end Tita eventually
finds herself but not without facing a great deal of adversity. Tita had been in love with Pedro since
she was a young girl. Her whole life she dreamed of marrying him and loving him until the day she
died, conversely, Mama Elena had different plans for her life. The De la Garza family tradition stated
that the youngest daughter must not marry but stay home and take care of her mother until the day she
died. When Pedro asked Mama Elena for Tita s hand in marriage she quickly shut it down. From that
moment Tita s desires were put on the back burner and she was not able to find her true identity. Her
freedom was also taken out of the picture. She was never free to live her life or be with the person she
loved until it was too late. Until the day Mama Elena dies, and even some moments after her death,
she controls Tita life. Her mother arranges for Pedro and and Rosaura to be wed causing an even
bigger internal struggle with Tita to take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Society tells women their place is in the kitchen and that is what Tita follows her entire life. Tita has a
bond with the kitchen but it also becomes a dungeon that she is thrown in and couldn t escape. There
are moment in the kitchen where Tita loses every part of her identity, such as when she cooks her
sister and boyfriend s wedding cake. In addition, society tells individuals they must obey their parents.
This caused Tita her freedom because she was never able to against what her family s tradition or what
her mother wanted her to

Benefits Of Living And Commuting Between Brussels And Paris
11 July 2015 One of the benefits of living and commuting between Brussels and Paris is that you are a
stone s throw (well, in close proximity) to all of the major, funky technology events such as IBM
Research/Analytics (Paris FR and Zurich CH), IBM Cyber Security (Ghent BE), Cannes Lions
(Cannes FR), and the Federal Institute of Technology (ETHZ) Artificial Intelligence events (Zurich
CH).
This past week I was able to enjoy a few days at the International Conference on Machine Learning in
Lille, France. It is the premier annual Machine Learning (ML) event supported by the International
Machine Learning Society which is a leader in ML research. NOTE: for an excellent gentle
introduction to ML via Youtube:
Google (no surprise) had a platoon of its centurions at the Lille event and there were many
opportunities to speak with Googlers. Google displayed a range of ML expertise. Some of it is a
typical data crunching exercise like reducing internal covariate shift to research that provides a
glimpse of what Google will do with its knowledge. And it has really got into the game thing (umm,
that s game revenue , folks). Google hosted scores of workshops. But Adobe, Disney Research,
Faceboook, IBM, Microsoft Research, and many more ML s major players were all there. And the
Lille event was typical for all of these tech events: free (very good) Wifi access, and fabulous lunch
bars on site to keep you near all the action. Plus scores of lunch/dinner options within

Examples Of Post Colonialism
Introduction
This thesis aims to read Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness (1898), and Nostromo, A Tale of Seaboard
(1904) in a post colonialist perspective. Post colonialism is a theory applied to literature and
developed after colonialism, in middle of the 20th century. The theory is based on colonized countries
by the colonial powers. The concept of postcolonialism is connected with the effects of colonization
on societies and cultures. The term has been used by literary critics to discuss various effects of
colonization after the late 1970s. Post Colonialism is the hyphenated term which marks historical
period as is suggested by phrases such as after colonialism , after independence , after the end of
empire where as the term postcolonialism referring to all qualities of a society or culture from the time
of colonization to the present. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conrad himself was a member of imperial culture and utilized his own experiences he gained as a
seamen in Congo and the Malay Archipelago when he wrote his Heart of Darkness . While writing
Nostromo Conrad was aware of the politics of the world s great powers, and his text was shaped by
the pervasive ideologies of the time.
Heart of Darkness includes four month of Conrad in Congo, and his command of a Congo River
steamboat. Conrad experienced and saw the violence made by the European explorers and traders in
Congo. He created the embodiment of European imperialism in his character, Kurtz. The novel tell the
story of Marlow, a seamen who undertakes his own journey into the African Jungle to find the
European trader, Kurtz.
Nostromo is one of the greatest and most complex novels of Conrad. Conrad shows, the social and
political disorder in South American states whose silver mine serves both literally and metaphorically

Experiment 6
Blackwood Ballistic Pendulum
Jamal Wright, Zachary Floyd, Christopher Wilson
Abstract Our goal of this experiment is to determine muzzle velocity by two methods: 1) employing
uniform linear motion relations, the kinematic equations; 2) using the principles of conservation of
energy and momentum. In this paper, we aim to validate the law of conservation of momentum. We do
so by comparing results from two experiments conducted with a single ballistic launcher/pendulum
apparatus.
Hypothesis: The initial velocity of a ballistic pendulum can be determined using the law of
conservation of momentum. Momentum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the ball hits the ground then y = H (since the positive y axis points downward.) By measuring
the distance of fall and using that acceleration due to gravity, g, the time of flight t = Tflight, can be
calculated with the following transformed kinematic equation:
Tflight = sqrt(2H/g)
The muzzle velocity, vmuzzle, (also the intitial velocity vx0) of the ball after being fired is horizontal.
From a measurement of the range, R, and using the time of flight, the muzzle velocity can be
determined
Vmuzzle = Ravg/Tflight
The second method requires the determination of the muzzle velocity from the principle of
conservation of momentum. The momentum of the ball just before it collides with the pendulum must
equal the momentum of the ball and the pendulum just after the collision, pi = pf. To expand on this
we see:
Mvmuzzle + MV = (m + M)V,
Where m is the mass of the ball, M is the mass of the pendulum and V is the velocity of the ball and
the pendulum together. Note: the velocity of the ball and the pendulum, v, is initially zero. In order to
find the velocity of the ball and the pendulum just after the collision we will use the principle of
conservation of energy. Neglecting friction at the point of support of the pendulum, the gravitational
potential energy must equal the kinetic energy of the ball and the pendulum at the bottom of the

Different Types Of Macromolecules
There are macromolecules in all forms of life, whether it is in the food we eat or the beverages we
drink. These macromolecules are carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. These four
different macromolecules are monomers and they link together in different sized chains, which form
polymers. Each of the four macromolecules is made up of different types of elements. The
macromolecule, Carbohydrates, contains carbon, oxygen and hydrogen, and is classified into one of
the three categories: monosaccharaides, disaccharides and polysaccharides. Proteins are made of
carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen and sometimes sulphur. Proteins are covalently bonded; these
bonds are called peptide bonds. Lipids are also made up of carbon, hydrogen ... Show more content on

Starch is made up of amylose and amylopectin, where amylopectin is completely insoluble and
amylose forms colloidal dispersions (University of California, 2015). The structure of amylose is
made up of long polymer chains of glucose (University of California, 2015). An alpha acetal linkage
connects these chains together (University of California, 2015). However, there is a very small
amylose chain in starch (University of California, 2015). Instead the monomer units of glucose in
starch are alpha D glucose, and the alpha acetal linkages connect carbon 1 from one glucose to the
carbon 4 of another (University of California, 2015). Furthermore, the formation of a dark blue colour
results from the amylose in the starch when mixed with iodine (University of California, 2015). Iodine
is not soluble in water; hence mixing together iodine and potassium iodide makes the reagent soluble
(University of California, 2015). The formation of iodine + potassium iodide results in a soluble,
linear triiodide ion that is able to go through the coils of starch (University of California, 2015). This
results in iodine being able to detect the presence of

Understanding Lord Byron The Romantic Period

Understanding Lord Byron
The Romantic Period was a time where life changed for so many. At the time, nations were
experiencing the results of the Industrial Revolution. England was the first nation in the world to
experience the effects of the Industrial Revolution (Henry 527). Instead of products being made by
hand, they were being made now by machines. Homes of people were being used for industries. The
people most affected were those of the lower class. No one cared about them. People were ignoring
the changes in the world. Romantics wanted to show the world that these changes were negative
changes. The writers during the Romantic Period wanted to bring real life feelings ... Show more

It changed the way of living, which changed the way of thinking. Imagination was seen as one of the
key features to describe one s perspective of the world. Henry explains that the human imagination is
some kind of desire a motive that drives the mind to discover things that it cannot learn by rational or
logical thinking (532). Logical thinking could not explain the importance in change, so something else
had to be used. Imagination drives a person s mind into deeper thought than does reason. He explains
how life on earth dies off. All earth was but one thought and that was death (Byron 42). Writing about
an apocalyptic world, brings out the curiosity of people; therefore, people use imagination to put
themselves in this situation to be able to understand. William quotes, I see everything I paint in this
world, but everybody does not see alike (532). Everyone has a different perspective. It is hard to be
able to explain the writer s writing without imagination and creativity. Readers don t use reason to
understand the poet s intention. Using reason, just describes only one point of view. Henry states,
Romanticism turned away from the eighteenth century emphasis on reason and artifice. Instead, the
Romantics embraced imagination and naturalness (529). During the period, they believed that
imagination, rather than mere reason, was the best response to the forces of change (Henry 529).
According to Henry, Wordsworth

Offshore Construction in Malaysia
Offshore Construction in Malaysia
Petroleum is essentially the most important commodity in the world today. In almost all form of
transportation, oil or petrol, derived from crude petroleum, is used to move people and the importance
of petrol is seen with the establishment of offshore drilling structure fabricator and its the supporting
industries in Malaysia. As of today, there are 7 of such yards in Malaysia that is capable of fabricating
offshore structure.
The world s pricing mechanism of petroleum is determined by OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum
Exporting Countries) and is quantified by barrels of crude oil. At peak, price of crude oil is

Keppel FELS is among the first few fabricators in Singapore that has embraced new welding
technology such as the use of high deposition submerged arc welding consumables. The way this high
deposition submerged arc welding consumables work is that it uses the very same machinery, very
same set of welding parameters, same operator skills and the characteristics of this consumables
enables it to be welded much faster than other brand of welding consumables of the same
specification. A comparison report was done on the use of this high deposition wire against
competitors generic wire clearly shows that this high deposition wires saved the customer 135 minutes
in welding a 0.95 meter length metal. (Michael, p.2). KFELS is estimated to have 50 of such machines
that are able to use this high deposition wires which translates to a saving of 6,750 minutes when
welding a 0.95m length of metal. Suffice to say, from a time saving factor point of view, the offshore
fabricators in Malaysia would lag behind in terms of time taken to complete. As of today, no
Malaysian fabricators have yet to incorporate these welding consumables in their project, although it s
proven the time saved when using these high deposition wires far outweigh the initial purchase cost of
it.
Along with the time saving factor, fabrication yards in Batam Island are known to review their
welding process from time to time and select the most cost saving welding

Self Assessment And Education Planning
Self assessment and Education Planning Through experience, I ve learned to pursue some
employment opportunities over others. I m not sure why, but some choices can be attributed to my
parents, peers, social status and the environment. These influences can also be credited to activities
that I participated in while growing up. For example, I enjoyed helping my mother care for my
younger sibling; this is probably why my strongest interest on the RIASEC spectrum falls within the
area of Education and training. Acquiring a Bachelor s degree, or Master s degree is required to work
in any of the fields assessed on the spectrum, along with the determination and skills to fulfill the
necessary requirements. Results in the interest profiler measured my Primary area of interest as (S)
Social and specifies several career options available by obtaining a degree in psychology. The profiler
outlined a person with social interest with a preference of being involved in assisting, encouraging
learning and personal growth. The Social type prefers to communicate, teach, and offer advice to
others, as opposed to working with objects or data. Occupations listed in the (S) category as suggested
from the O net material list matches in the area of Pre School Child Care Programs, Social Worker,

Stereotypes And Stereotypes Of The Media
In our media intensive culture, it is not difficult to find different opinions as well as stereotypes.
Stereotypes are found in the media every day and affect our opinion as well as how we perceive
others. Stereotypes of the GLBT community in the media are most commonly found in movies or in
TV shows but they rarely talk about their sexual identity. When their identity is being portrayed, it is
shown with some form of stereotype. The identity of the homosexual seems to stem from a stereotype
itself; sometimes as if the GLBT community has formed their identities based on stereotypes. Men are
commonly shown as feminine while women are portrayed to be masculine . Other stereotypes such as
that all gay men are all into fashion or that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These very stereotypes have influenced all of our views on LGBT men and women.
Stereotypes are damaging ideas about how a group of people are supposed to behave and act. It
dehumanizes them by lumping them into broad categories it takes away their traits that makes them
unique and it does not define their personality and turns them into a form of objects. The idea that the
male homosexual is directly linked to feminism is inaccurate. While there are some males who express
themselves in behaviors that are considered to be feminine, there are others who do not. Gay men are
displayed to seem interested in fashion, are meticulous, and are emotional but in reality not all men
display these characteristics. This stereotype damages gay males in the extent that they are playing a
role in which gay men are hiding their uniqueness as individual human beings because of the
formation of these stereotypes.
Sexual behavior and desire varies from person to person and like all humans, gay people also have
sexual needs. The stereotype of them having sex with multiple partners also increases the
generalization that all gay people may have AIDS or HIV. According to US statistics, gay people of all
races are in fact the most severely affected with HIV but the misconception that they all have AIDS or
HIV is wrong. This is harmful to the gay community because men and women who are heterosexual

Gold Rush Causes And Effects
Research Paper: The history and effect of The Gold Rush Gold rush is one of the significant event in
the history. In this project, I will introduce what was the major effects of gold rush in the California.
And how did that changed the people, economic, political and environmental effects. The Gold Rush
is a rapid movement of people to a newly discovered goldfield. Gold rush was arguably one of the
most significant events to build American history during the first half of the 19th century. Thousands
of gold miners traveled by the sea and over the land of San Francisco and the surrounding area. In
January 1848, James Wilson Marshall discovered gold along the American River. By the time, the
fountain of the gold was loaded on newspaper, but it didn t become a big event, most of people just
did not really believe the account of gold. The Gold rush occurred in May 1848. A storekeeper in
Sutter s cheek who is called Sam Brannan showed a bottle filled with gold dust and shouted that he
found a piece of gold from American River. So the residents of the city got a proof of the discovery of
gold. People who heard about the gold discovery started to gather in San Francisco s harbor. This is
the beginning of the gold rush. By the time, gold mining was a one of tough profession. Although
most people didn t make much money, a few prospectors got fabulously rich. Also, Gold rush made a
lot of Ghost Town. People rushed to the town when gold was discovered, but when the mining dried

The Public Company Accounting Oversight
The act is very comprehensive, however, some of its main points include (Ball, 2009): Creation of the
Public Company Accounting Oversight Board which regulates the public accounting/auditing industry
Requires CEO s and CFO s to certify the financial statements are free of material misstatements and
fairly represent the company s financial position Requires a strong and independent audit committee
which is to oversee the audit instead of management Places limitations on the provision non audit
services by a firm responsible for auditing the company in order to strengthen and enhance auditor
independence Requires management to assess, and attest to, the adequacy of the company s internal
controls Prior to Sarbanes Oxley and the creation of the PCAOB, the auditing industry regulated itself.
Between the years 2000 and 2001 Ernst and Young, Price Waterhouse Cooper, and Arthur Anderson
were involved in cases that proved the need for an oversight board (Coates, 2007). Ernst and Young
settled a shareholder lawsuit for $335 million; Price WaterHouse Cooper was found to have over
8,000 instances where their auditors held stock in the company they were auditing even though it was
a violation of SEC rules; and the SEC charged Arthur Anderson with fraud. It was once again vital that
public confidence in our financial system was restored, hence the passage of Sarbanes Oxley. Stronger
oversight of the auditing industry reassures the public the profession will be held to

Chris Mccandless Character Analysis
Christopher McCandless took his journey into the Alaskan wild to find his own identity. However, as
readers look to Chris journey, they often learn more about who they are as a person. Chris left his
wealthy family and comfortable life for the harsh wilderness because he wanted to find true happiness
and his true self. However, Chris personality was that of a distant drifter who was never satisfied by
the expensive cars, endless opportunities for education, and meaningful relationships. Throughout
Krakauer s novel Into the Wild, Christopher McCandless distant relationship with his parents and need
for adrenaline costed him meaningful relationships with those he met on his journey and ultimately
cost Chris his life.
Carine, Chris sister, gives readers a glance into the personal life of Chris before he decided to go out

wealthy parents set him in. Chris was constantly climbing rocks and trees, all the while unintentionally
deceiving his emotionally distant parents into believing that their son was perfectly happy living with
the monotony of his daily life. Chris never acted like someone he wasn t. He never put on a rouse to
create the perfect getaway from civilization. McCandless quietly found his niche in the world and
once he found his way, he never turned back. Throughout his teenage and college years, Chris began

Slaughterhouse Five, By Billy Pilgrim
assumed that Billy Pilgrim relives his war time experiences on a near daily basis. Another thing is that
Billy avoids connections with people like his mother, and even his own fiancé.
The conclusion of this analysis as a whole must therefore be that Billy Pilgrim became unstuck in time
(in his own world) due to the events of which he witnessed and/or participated in during World War II.
The horror of what was occurring around him, and due to the confusion he felt during the occurrence
of these events, his entire mental state degraded to the point where he became locked in viewing the
past over and over indefinitely, and into helping himself believe his delusion that he was often taken
from the earth to another strange planet he felt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, it may be concluded that Billy, due to the effects of having been a POW, and having
been witness to the full magnitude of destruction of the city that had no reason to be destroyed,
suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which lead him to review the events over and over
during the course of his life in different forms and memories. In order to understand how these drastic
factors, the destruction of the city Dresden and PTSD , came to make Billy Pilgrim unstuck in time,
one must analyze and look over the circumstances surrounding those same events. He is clearly
suffering from PTSD with the symptoms of flashbacks about the events he went through in his past,
his relationships with people aren t strong and seem forced, and he collides memories with reality.
The human mind is a complicated part of the body which current day science knows little about.
Trigger mechanisms, and/or other factors within the brain are relatively unknown to current humanity
with all of its complexions. Therefore, in order to produce a valid diagnostic on why Billy Pilgrim
became unstuck in time (according to the first chapter), the reader of Slaughterhouse Five must come
to copping with situations concerning the experiences he went through described in the novel. Billy
starts out, chronologically, as a fairly basic infantryman as a part of the United States Army during the
last Nazi offensive of the war (World

Caltrans Personal Statement
After completing one year of college, I moved on to work and then getting marriage and raising

How Does Oscar Wilde Use Humor
In Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest there are multiple types of humor. Oscar Wilde was
known for being quite humorous and he shows this throughout the story. This story has grown to be
very popular and has been made into countless stage productions and even three films. The
Importance of being Earnest can thank its humor and hysterical tone for making it into the widely
known and loved play that it is today. One type of humor that is found in The Importance of Being
Earnest is inversion humor. Inversion humor is when someone goes against logical reasoning and says
expressions that make little to no sense at all. In inversion humor, the end of the phrase being said is
typically the opposite of what you expect to be said, and is very unpredictable. One of many instances
where this type of humor is found is when Cecily says, I don t like novels that end happily. They
depress me so much (Wilde, Act II P.2311). As you can see she begins with saying she does not like
happy endings and then contradicts the meaning of the word happy and says that they depress her.
There are numerous other instances where inversion humor is used and it adds greatly to the tone of
the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

contemplating whether not she approves of Earnest she points out all of his flaws and then gives a
funny, unexpected response. She criticizes him for living on the wrong side of the street that has

Results Figure 1: shows mean HR for control (WO) and Ice vest (W) groups against time with SD

are insignificant 0.469 (P 0.05). The beginning and end HR difference for ice vest and control were
69.33bpm and 41.67bpm respectively. Figure 2: Shows mean Ts (°C) of participants for ice vest and

Related Samples Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed no significant difference between plasma
percentages for Ice vest and control pre test results. Related Samples Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test
showed no significant difference between plasma percentages for ice vest and control post test results
(p 0.344). Discussion The significances from figures 1 5 would suggest that the Ice vests caused no
significant physiological changes (p 0.05). However these results are inconclusive as the results are
not representative of the male population with only 6 participants and no repeats which makes it
statistically unreliable and non representative. Although Figure 1 shows no significant difference
between control and ice vest it is apparent that there is a lower mean HR for the ice vest testing in the
first 8 minutes of the experiment. This can be explained by Figure 2 which shows the reduction in Ts
for ice vest compared to the control during the first 5 minutes of the experiment. This reduction in Ts
causes a reduction in the need for blood flow to the skin which directly causes an increase in available
blood for central circulation (Marino, 2002). The vasoconstriction as a result of the cold stimuli of the
jacket would naturally increase the stroke volume (SV) and consequently cause a reduction in HR
(Marino, 2002). Increased muscle blood flow could improve performance potentially. Figure 1 results
showed that the ice vest tests beginning and end HR difference was 69.33 bpm

Religion in James Joyce s Dubliners Essay
Religion in James Joyce s Dubliners Religion was an integral part of Ireland during the modernist
period, tightly woven into the social fabric of its citizens. The Catholic Church was a longstanding
tradition of Ireland. In the modernist spirit of breaking away from forces that inhibited growth, the
church stood as one of the principal barriers. This is because the Catholic faith acted as the governing
force of its people, as portrayed in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is mainly due to the fact that both adhere to a certain agreed ideas of how people should act. The
majority of any given population makes decisions on a daily basis using both law and religion to guide
their actions. However, when matters of fairness and equity are questioned the government must make
an adhered to ruling. In the story The Boarding House , Joyce presents us with an image of Ireland
where religion is the governing force in determining equitable situations. This is clearly apparent
when Mrs. Mooney experiences trouble with her marriage and seeks a separation. This situation is
described as, She went to the priest and got a separation from him with care of the children (72). For
most societies a situation like this would fall under the category of civil law, and be decided in a court
of law. The fact that Mrs. Mooney went to the priest to solve a domestic dispute, and not to an
attorney shows that the citizens of Ireland regarded the church as the head figure of Ireland. Anytime
that the ruling authority of a country is anything other than its own constitution, the only outcome is a
constricted and less prosperous society. This is evident in emerging countries where two or more
political parties fighting for control of the people. When a religion is the head of state for a country,
the actions of its people are subjected to moral and ethical beliefs. This is unfair in concept, due to the
fact not all citizens of a

Of course, after the proposal came out college athletics directors and conference commissioners began
protesting the new stipend by claiming of all things they could not afford it . Within a month, 125 of
them had signed an override request. So the NCAA decided to cave on the idea. Some of the students
who had already signed that deal got to keep the $2000 stipend yet others who take money for a
different type of deal, say with an overzealous booster for selling some of their team paraphernalia, as
a few Ohio State players did violated the NCAA s rules regarding amateurism and were hit with multi
game suspensions in addition to getting the coach Jim Trassell (see insert) fired. That is the second
problem of the system that needs to be addressed.
It all starts with money and the players see it and know it. They see that the NCAA s college football
and men s basketball are huge commercial enterprises that generate more than 6 billion in annual
revenue. That is more revenue than the National Basketball Association (NBA). People can see the
television deals like the one signed with Turner Broadcasting and CBS sports to the tune of 14 years

Analysis Of Corky Gonzales Poem I Am Joaquin
Chicano movement is a civil right movement of 1960s. While Vietnam War did not show any
progress, people started to doubt about war and did seek peace, civil rights, and justice. Although
many Chicanos fought for their country, still their effort did not recognized. Chicanos participated
more actively than other social groups because they were suffering from poverty and inequality.
Northland College writing tutor, Gloria Serna shared her experience as Hispanic American and
involvement of Chicano movement. Serna contributed Chicano movement in Texas. She recalled her

writer, Rodolfo Corky Gonzales wrote a poem, I am Joaquin . This poem describes Chicanos struggles
and social discrimination at 1960s. When I read this poem, I could find similarity with Gloria Serna s
story and could think about Chicanos feeling. In the beginning part, this poem tells about struggles of
Chicanos in the society:
Caught up in the whirl of a gringo society, confused by the rules, scorned by attitudes, suppressed by
manipulation, and destroyed by modern society. My fathers have lost the economic battle and won the
struggle of cultural survival... I look at myself. I watch my brothers. I shed tears of sorrow. I sow seeds

Globalization and Human Welfare
International free trade has become the foundation of neoliberal globalization. The main organizations
for carrying out free trade are World Trade Organization (WTO) established on 1995, International
Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank (WB). The main aim was to promote development and trade.
Trade has become the lens through which development is perceived, rather than the other way round .
The concept of trade evolved right from Adam Smith and David Ricardo who introduced the concept
of comparative advantage which compares the productiveness across countries. Here countries make
use of their natural resources, climate, skills etc. According to Paul Krugman trade reflects arbitrary or
temporary advantages resulting from economies of scale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
World trade has grown five times in real terms since 1980, and its share of world GDP has risen from
36 percent to 55 percent over this period. During the 1990s more Asian countries were integrated into
the trading system. The developing countries have been catching up with or surpassing high income
countries in their trade openness, reflecting the widespread convergence of low and middle income
countries trade systems toward the traditionally more open trading regimes in place in advanced
economies . Globalization measures distinguish between trade and financial openness and include
both de facto and de jure measures. Specifically, trade openness is measured by the (unweighted)
average tariff rate ( de jure measure), and the ratios of both non oil exports and non oil imports to GDP
( de facto measures). Financial openness is measured by the Chinn Ito index of capital account
openness ( de jure measure), the ratios of various types of financial liabilities (foreign direct
investment, portfolio equity, and debt) to GDP and the stock of foreign direct investment assets
expressed as a percentage of GDP ( de facto measures). The latter, which is closely associated to
offshore, outsourcing, may be particularly relevant to measure the impact of globalization on
inequality in advanced countries, while its value is minimal

Analysis Of The Christian College s ( Pcc ) Definition Of...
Intro
Understanding art is often thought of as being an unreachable goal, but art should not be considered
arbitrary because it influences the cultures and societies around us. The purpose of this paper is to
define and also establish my opinions on Pensacola Christian College s (PCC) definition of art, the
bibliosophy of art, and Dr. Francis Schaeffer s criteria for art. These topics are useful for artists as well
as anyone else critiquing art, and can also serve as guidelines and standards for an artist when they
create art.
PCC s Definition of Art
PCC s definition of art is stated as the organized visual expression of ideas or feelings . I believe this
definition correctly reflects God s personality as an artist with its emphasis on the word organized. 1
Corinthians 14:40 states Let all things be done decently and in order . This belief is consistently
recognized throughout creation. While I agree with specifying the word organized, I disagree that art
should be considered completely visual, as this leaves out areas of art such as music, performance, and
writing. Overall, I believe that this definition captures art fairly well by explaining that art expresses
human emotions and ideas.
Bibliosophy of Art
The bibliosophy of art defines art is four parts which are the canon, communication, the client, and
creativity. The canon refers to the Bible and its authority in our life as an artist, communication
defines our message as an artist, the client states who we are

Hyperthermia Research Paper
Let s face it, it is nearly impossible to avoid heat. However, people forget there can be serious
consequences from too much heat intake. The most common reaction to overheating is heat stroke,
medically referred to as Hyperthermia. Hyperthermia occurs when the body is absorbing more heat
than it can give off. The body s temperature keeps climbing due to failed thermoregulation.
Thermoregulation is a homeostatic mechanism used by all living organisms to keep a stable internal
core temperature. All mechanisms function for one reason, to maintain homeostasis. When the body is
experiencing a lower or higher core temperature, it sends signals to the glands, muscles, organs and
parts of the nervous system. Instructions for the nervous system start ... Show more content on

That being said, it takes an abnormally high body temperature to be classified as hyperthermia.
Usually the body reaches an internal temperature of 104°F before it goes into shock and dies. It can be
caused from extreme weather conditions, drug use, other medical conditions could cause the body to
not be able to stabilize the internal core temperature. In order to treat hyperthermia, doctors need to
restore the temperature back to its normal 98.6°F. Serious consequences can come from hyperthermia,
including tissue damage, organ damage if the tissues are damaged severely, lesions on internal organs,
and sometimes fatality. Heat stroke occurs in both male and female. The illness effects people who are
over 50 more severely, because they are unable to fight off the increasing heat. Circulation is also poor
in elderly people due to deteriorating artery walls. This is a huge issue when dealing with
hyperthermia because older people will have a harder time circulating more blood cells to damaged
sites. Small children often suffer from heat stroke because they have a larger surface to weight ratio.
Treatment for hyperthermia is to cool down the body, but not to the point where the patient will
become hypothermic. Doctors use both internal and external techniques in order to balance the
temperature. A few signs and symptoms include dizziness, confusion from the heat affecting the
mental state of the patient and nausea. So remember to take caution when sitting out in the sun for
long periods of time. Your body is susceptible for hyperthermia and potentially other health

This information can be obtained by contacting the nearby charity organizations and enquiring about
their current requirements. There are also online fundraiser organizations that request the donors to
mail the hair. In that case, the guidelines given by them should be followed for carrying out the

The Path of a Buddhist Essay
The Path of a Buddhist
Buddhism is a religion and philosophy based on the teachings of the Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama.
Today, Buddhism has an estimated seven hundred million followers, known as Buddhists. Most
practicing Buddhists believe in ideas such as karma, dharma, samsara and nirvana. In addition to
these, Buddhists base their lives and actions on the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path.
Taught by Gautama, the Noble Eightfold path is a theory, that when put into action, serves as a way to
end suffering (The Noble Eightfold Path). In Buddhism, the belief is that life is suffering. Through out
his life, Gautama, searched endlessly for a means of liberation from this suffering. The Noble
Eightfold Path is a series of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also provides a means to grasp the impermanent and imperfect nature of worldly things, and to
understand the law of karma. It is the first teaching because one s worldview will determine one s
thoughts and right view yields right actions (The Noble Eightfold Path).
Right Intention deals with positive and negative energy and the commitment to mental self
improvement. The Buddha explains right intention as threefold: the intention of renunciation, the
intention of good will, and the intention of harmlessness . These intentions include the resistance of
desire, aversion or anger, and acts of cruelty or aggressiveness (Bodhi).
Right Speech is deeply emphasized among all Buddhist because of the severe consequences of speech;
words can save lives, make enemies or friends, start war or create peace. Buddha explained his third
principle as abstinence from false speech, abstinence from slanderous speech and not to use words
maliciously against others, abstinence from harsh words that offend or hurt others, and finally
abstinence from idle chatter that lacks purpose or depth (The Noble Eightfold Path).
Right Action encompasses many ideas in one principle. It gives restriction to the way one should use
their body. To a Buddhist Right Action includes but is not limited to abstaining from taking another s
life or one s own life, stealing and behaving unchastely. The idea of Right Action is based in respect;
self respect and respect for everything else that is

Circumcision, Abortion, And The Procedure Of Genital Cutting
Circumcision, possible for both males and females, implies the procedure of genital cutting. This
process is one of the oldest surgical procedures done in a variety of countries. However, circumcision
can not only be accepted for medical reasons but also tend to appear defining for one s religious,
cultural, as well as social lives. Thus, traditional circumcision is usually undertaken in worse
conditions than the traditional medical one. With recent research, numerous advantages for a
circumcised person s health have been proven. In particular, circumcision is now known to reduce the
risk of becoming infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), reduce the risk of penile
cancer as well as cervical cancer in women. Another medical benefit is the reduced risk of UTI (World
Health Organization, n.d.). Due to these benefits, more parents are opting for circumcision, for the
medical profits of the procedure. In addition, in spite of the found benefits of circumcision, the matter
has caused a range of legal and ethical issues that cannot be neglected. Still, from the overall
perspective, circumcision is known to be a rewarding procedure.
One popular form of circumcision in developing countries is female circumcision, which is also
known as female genital cutting or genital mutilation. This practice is a mostly seen for cultural
reasons in Africa and Asia (Nour, Mann, Falk, 2016). The procedure can appear in two types: excision
of the prepuce, with or without excision

In Kukuanaland, they encounter a barbaric king, Twala. According to Haggard Twala appearance was
that of an enormous man with the most entirely repulsive countenance we had ever beheld (103).
Umpoba, the mysterious Zulu servant, steps forward to claim his right to the throne (Sir Henry Rider
Haggard (1856 1925) 3). After a series of bloody battles, Twala is overthrown, and Umpoba, the
rightful heir becomes king (Haggard 175). Finally Sir Henry, Captain Good, and Allan set out for King
Solomon s Mines, accompanied by an evil witch doctor Gagool (Haggard 187). In the deep chambers
of the mines Gagool deserts the company, and seals the passage to leave them hopelessly trapped (Sir
Henry Rider Haggard (1856 1925) 3). Having abandoned hope the company surrender themselves to
death but as they say where there s life there s hope, (Haggard 212) they manage to find a way out of
the miserable mines and Allan Quatermain scrambles a few diamonds with him. On their homeward

The Importance Of The G. I Bill
When military men go out for deployment, they usually struggle with physical and mental health
problems. They sometimes feel homesick and often, they feel disconnected to civilian life. The long
conflict or war usually requires them to be deployed several time and operate constantly under threat
of attack, these situations could lead to emotional problems to most of our military men. Their lives
while on service were not easy. Those who are weak do not know how to get back to their normal life.
They usually have difficulty in handling these problems. One soldier named Christopher Steavens, a
former Army staff sergeant who was among 819 vets polled. He served in Iraq in 2003 and in Kuwait
2012 where he was injured in a construction accident. He said When I raised my right hand and said, I
will support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, when I gave them
everything I could, I expect the same in return, (Chandrasekaren) . Like many others in the military,

Escoffier, an Associate Professor in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Florida International University, Hospitality Management is the largest business activity in the world. There are nearly 1 million food service operations in the United States, and nearly three hundred thousand hotels. It is estimated that there are over 1 million hotels and more than 7 million food service businesses. How this business operates, and its impact on the local economy varies from country to country, but its importance is undeniable (Escoffier). Many colleges that offer Hospitality Management may also include the option to enroll within a specific concentration, so that you may gain a specialty . Therefore it s important to have a sense of what area of hospitality you are interested in, so that you enroll yourself into an appropriate program, including programs where graduates have been able to secure employment in your interested field and location. For example, if you have the desire to work as a ski lodge manager, you may want to make sure you enroll into a school that provides the focus of the hotel industry and potential internship opportunities within ski country vs. the beaches in Florida. In effort to continue a higher learning education within the field of Hospitality, which may increase my career options as I enter the workforce, I have reviewed three colleges within the New York State area that provides a Bachelor s degree within Hospitality Management. The purpose of this evaluation and comparison is to provide the most feasible and economic option available for me to pursue a Bachelor Degree within Hospitality in a timely fashion and at minimal cost. Therefore my criteria for this comparison includes the following: Type of Concentration that is offered Tuition Cost Acceptance of Transferred Credits Testing/Entrance Requirement (i.e. GPA, GRE, Math Requirement) Career Track Opportunities Accreditations The three schools that have been reviewed are ... • 3. Examples Of Obstacles In Like Water For Chocolate Throughout Like Water for Chocolate Tita faces may obstacles. These obstacles include tradition and society with Mama Elena being the biggest catalyst. Tita was forced to stay in the kitchen and take care of her mom all her life, without the choice of getting married. These obstacles became roadblocks that forced Tita s quest to find her identity and freedom almost achievable. In the end Tita eventually finds herself but not without facing a great deal of adversity. Tita had been in love with Pedro since she was a young girl. Her whole life she dreamed of marrying him and loving him until the day she died, conversely, Mama Elena had different plans for her life. The De la Garza family tradition stated that the youngest daughter must not marry but stay home and take care of her mother until the day she died. When Pedro asked Mama Elena for Tita s hand in marriage she quickly shut it down. From that moment Tita s desires were put on the back burner and she was not able to find her true identity. Her freedom was also taken out of the picture. She was never free to live her life or be with the person she loved until it was too late. Until the day Mama Elena dies, and even some moments after her death, she controls Tita life. Her mother arranges for Pedro and and Rosaura to be wed causing an even bigger internal struggle with Tita to take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Benefits Of Living And Commuting Between Brussels And Paris 11 July 2015 One of the benefits of living and commuting between Brussels and Paris is that you are a stone s throw (well, in close proximity) to all of the major, funky technology events such as IBM Research/Analytics (Paris FR and Zurich CH), IBM Cyber Security (Ghent BE), Cannes Lions (Cannes FR), and the Federal Institute of Technology (ETHZ) Artificial Intelligence events (Zurich CH). This past week I was able to enjoy a few days at the International Conference on Machine Learning in Lille, France. It is the premier annual Machine Learning (ML) event supported by the International Machine Learning Society which is a leader in ML research. NOTE: for an excellent gentle introduction to ML via Youtube: Google (no surprise) had a platoon of its centurions at the Lille event and there were many opportunities to speak with Googlers. Google displayed a range of ML expertise. Some of it is a typical data crunching exercise like reducing internal covariate shift to research that provides a glimpse of what Google will do with its knowledge. And it has really got into the game thing (umm, that s game revenue , folks). Google hosted scores of workshops. But Adobe, Disney Research, Faceboook, IBM, Microsoft Research, and many more ML s major players were all there. And the Lille event was typical for all of these tech events: free (very good) Wifi access, and fabulous lunch bars on site to keep you near all the action. Plus scores of lunch/dinner options within ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Examples Of Post Colonialism Introduction This thesis aims to read Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness (1898), and Nostromo, A Tale of Seaboard (1904) in a post colonialist perspective. Post colonialism is a theory applied to literature and developed after colonialism, in middle of the 20th century. The theory is based on colonized countries by the colonial powers. The concept of postcolonialism is connected with the effects of colonization on societies and cultures. The term has been used by literary critics to discuss various effects of colonization after the late 1970s. Post Colonialism is the hyphenated term which marks historical period as is suggested by phrases such as after colonialism , after independence , after the end of empire where as the term postcolonialism referring to all qualities of a society or culture from the time of colonization to the present. Conrad himself was a member of imperial culture and utilized his own experiences he gained as a seamen in Congo and the Malay Archipelago when he wrote his Heart of Darkness . While writing Nostromo Conrad was aware of the politics of the world s great powers, and his text was shaped by the pervasive ideologies of the time. Heart of Darkness includes four month of Conrad in Congo, and his command of a Congo River steamboat. Conrad experienced and saw the violence made by the European explorers and traders in Congo. He created the embodiment of European imperialism in his character, Kurtz. The novel tell the story of Marlow, a seamen who undertakes his own journey into the African Jungle to find the European trader, Kurtz. Nostromo is one of the greatest and most complex novels of Conrad. • 6. Blackwood Ballistic Pendulum Experiment 6: Blackwood Ballistic Pendulum September 18, 2013 Jamal Wright Zachary Floyd Christopher Wilson Experiment 6 Blackwood Ballistic Pendulum Jamal Wright, Zachary Floyd, Christopher Wilson Abstract Our goal of this experiment is to determine muzzle velocity by two methods: 1) employing uniform linear motion relations, the kinematic equations; 2) using the principles of conservation of energy and momentum. In this paper, we aim to validate the law of conservation of momentum. We do so by comparing results from two experiments conducted with a single ballistic launcher/pendulum apparatus. Hypothesis: The initial velocity of a ballistic pendulum can be determined using the law of conservation of momentum. Momentum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the ball hits the ground then y = H (since the positive y axis points downward.) By measuring the distance of fall and using that acceleration due to gravity, g, the time of flight t = Tflight, can be calculated with the following transformed kinematic equation: Tflight = sqrt(2H/g) The muzzle velocity, vmuzzle, (also the intitial velocity vx0) of the ball after being fired is horizontal. From a measurement of the range, R, and using the time of flight, the muzzle velocity can be determined Vmuzzle = Ravg/Tflight The second method requires the determination of the muzzle velocity from the principle of conservation of momentum. The momentum of the ball just before it collides with the pendulum must equal the momentum of the ball and the pendulum just after the collision, pi = pf. To expand on this we see: Mvmuzzle + MV = (m + M)V, Where m is the mass of the ball, M is the mass of the pendulum and V is the velocity of the ball and the pendulum together. Note: the velocity of the ball and the pendulum, v, is initially zero. In order to find the velocity of the ball and the pendulum just after the collision we will use the principle of conservation of energy. Neglecting friction at the point of support of the pendulum, the gravitational potential energy must equal the kinetic energy of the ball and the pendulum at the bottom of the ... • 7. Different Types Of Macromolecules There are macromolecules in all forms of life, whether it is in the food we eat or the beverages we drink. These macromolecules are carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. These four different macromolecules are monomers and they link together in different sized chains, which form polymers. Each of the four macromolecules is made up of different types of elements. The macromolecule, Carbohydrates, contains carbon, oxygen and hydrogen, and is classified into one of the three categories: monosaccharaides, disaccharides and polysaccharides. Proteins are made of carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen and sometimes sulphur. Proteins are covalently bonded; these bonds are called peptide bonds. Lipids are also made up of carbon, hydrogen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Starch is made up of amylose and amylopectin, where amylopectin is completely insoluble and amylose forms colloidal dispersions (University of California, 2015). The structure of amylose is made up of long polymer chains of glucose (University of California, 2015). An alpha acetal linkage connects these chains together (University of California, 2015). However, there is a very small amylose chain in starch (University of California, 2015). Instead the monomer units of glucose in starch are alpha D glucose, and the alpha acetal linkages connect carbon 1 from one glucose to the carbon 4 of another (University of California, 2015). Furthermore, the formation of a dark blue colour results from the amylose in the starch when mixed with iodine (University of California, 2015). Iodine is not soluble in water; hence mixing together iodine and potassium iodide makes the reagent soluble (University of California, 2015). The formation of iodine + potassium iodide results in a soluble, linear triiodide ion that is able to go through the coils of starch (University of California, 2015). This results in iodine being able to detect the presence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the time, nations were experiencing the results of the Industrial Revolution. England was the first nation in the world to experience the effects of the Industrial Revolution (Henry 527). Instead of products being made by hand, they were being made now by machines. Homes of people were being used for industries. The people most affected were those of the lower class. No one cared about them. People were ignoring the changes in the world. Romantics wanted to show the world that these changes were negative changes. Imagination was seen as one of the key features to describe one s perspective of the world. Henry explains that the human imagination is some kind of desire a motive that drives the mind to discover things that it cannot learn by rational or logical thinking (532). Logical thinking could not explain the importance in change, so something else had to be used. Imagination drives a person s mind into deeper thought than does reason. He explains how life on earth dies off. All earth was but one thought and that was death (Byron 42). Writing about an apocalyptic world, brings out the curiosity of people; therefore, people use imagination to put themselves in this situation to be able to understand. William quotes, I see everything I paint in this world, but everybody does not see alike (532). Everyone has a different perspective. It is hard to be able to explain the writer s writing without imagination and creativity. Readers don t use reason to understand the poet s intention. Using reason, just describes only one point of view. Henry states, Romanticism turned away from the eighteenth century emphasis on reason and artifice. Instead, the Romantics embraced imagination and naturalness (529). During the period, they believed that imagination, rather than mere reason, was the best response to the forces of change (Henry 529). According to Henry, Wordsworth ... Stereotypes are found in the media every day and affect our opinion as well as how we perceive others. Stereotypes of the GLBT community in the media are most commonly found in movies or in TV shows but they rarely talk about their sexual identity. When their identity is being portrayed, it is shown with some form of stereotype. These very stereotypes have influenced all of our views on LGBT men and women. Stereotypes are damaging ideas about how a group of people are supposed to behave and act. It dehumanizes them by lumping them into broad categories it takes away their traits that makes them unique and it does not define their personality and turns them into a form of objects. The idea that the male homosexual is directly linked to feminism is inaccurate. While there are some males who express themselves in behaviors that are considered to be feminine, there are others who do not. Gay men are displayed to seem interested in fashion, are meticulous, and are emotional but in reality not all men display these characteristics. This stereotype damages gay males in the extent that they are playing a role in which gay men are hiding their uniqueness as individual human beings because of the formation of these stereotypes. Sexual behavior and desire varies from person to person and like all humans, gay people also have sexual needs. The stereotype of them having sex with multiple partners also increases the generalization that all gay people may have AIDS or HIV. In this project, I will introduce what was the major effects of gold rush in the California. And how did that changed the people, economic, political and environmental effects. The Gold Rush is a rapid movement of people to a newly discovered goldfield. Gold rush was arguably one of the most significant events to build American history during the first half of the 19th century. Thousands of gold miners traveled by the sea and over the land of San Francisco and the surrounding area. In January 1848, James Wilson Marshall discovered gold along the American River. By the time, the fountain of the gold was loaded on newspaper, but it didn t become a big event, most of people just did not really believe the account of gold. The Gold rush occurred in May 1848. A storekeeper in Sutter s cheek who is called Sam Brannan showed a bottle filled with gold dust and shouted that he found a piece of gold from American River. So the residents of the city got a proof of the discovery of gold. People who heard about the gold discovery started to gather in San Francisco s harbor. This is the beginning of the gold rush. By the time, gold mining was a one of tough profession. Although most people didn t make much money, a few prospectors got fabulously rich. Also, Gold rush made a lot of Ghost Town. Oscar Wilde was known for being quite humorous and he shows this throughout the story. This story has grown to be very popular and has been made into countless stage productions and even three films. The Importance of being Earnest can thank its humor and hysterical tone for making it into the widely known and loved play that it is today. One type of humor that is found in The Importance of Being Earnest is inversion humor. Inversion humor is when someone goes against logical reasoning and says expressions that make little to no sense at all. In inversion humor, the end of the phrase being said is typically the opposite of what you expect to be said, and is very unpredictable. One of many instances where this type of humor is found is when Cecily says, I don t like novels that end happily. They depress me so much (Wilde, Act II P.2311). However these results are inconclusive as the results are not representative of the male population with only 6 participants and no repeats which makes it statistically unreliable and non representative. Although Figure 1 shows no significant difference between control and ice vest it is apparent that there is a lower mean HR for the ice vest testing in the first 8 minutes of the experiment. This can be explained by Figure 2 which shows the reduction in Ts for ice vest compared to the control during the first 5 minutes of the experiment. This reduction in Ts causes a reduction in the need for blood flow to the skin which directly causes an increase in available blood for central circulation (Marino, 2002). The vasoconstriction as a result of the cold stimuli of the jacket would naturally increase the stroke volume (SV) and consequently cause a reduction in HR (Marino, 2002). In the story The Boarding House , Joyce presents us with an image of Ireland where religion is the governing force in determining equitable situations. Intro Understanding art is often thought of as being an unreachable goal, but art should not be considered arbitrary because it influences the cultures and societies around us. The purpose of this paper is to define and also establish my opinions on Pensacola Christian College s (PCC) definition of art, the bibliosophy of art, and Dr. Francis Schaeffer s criteria for art. These topics are useful for artists as well as anyone else critiquing art, and can also serve as guidelines and standards for an artist when they create art. PCC s Definition of Art PCC s definition of art is stated as the organized visual expression of ideas or feelings . I believe this definition correctly reflects God s personality as an artist with its emphasis on the word organized. 1 Corinthians 14:40 states Let all things be done decently and in order . This belief is consistently recognized throughout creation. While I agree with specifying the word organized, I disagree that art should be considered completely visual, as this leaves out areas of art such as music, performance, and writing. Overall, I believe that this definition captures art fairly well by explaining that art expresses human emotions and ideas. The most common reaction to overheating is heat stroke, medically referred to as Hyperthermia. Hyperthermia occurs when the body is absorbing more heat than it can give off. The body s temperature keeps climbing due to failed thermoregulation. Thermoregulation is a homeostatic mechanism used by all living organisms to keep a stable internal core temperature. Usually the body reaches an internal temperature of 104°F before it goes into shock and dies. It can be caused from extreme weather conditions, drug use, other medical conditions could cause the body to not be able to stabilize the internal core temperature. In order to treat hyperthermia, doctors need to restore the temperature back to its normal 98.6°F. Serious consequences can come from hyperthermia, including tissue damage, organ damage if the tissues are damaged severely, lesions on internal organs, and sometimes fatality. Heat stroke occurs in both male and female. The illness effects people who are over 50 more severely, because they are unable to fight off the increasing heat. Circulation is also poor in elderly people due to deteriorating artery walls. This is a huge issue when dealing with hyperthermia because older people will have a harder time circulating more blood cells to damaged sites. Small children often suffer from heat stroke because they have a larger surface to weight ratio. Treatment for hyperthermia is to cool down the body, but not to the point where the patient will become hypothermic. Doctors use both internal and external techniques in order to balance the temperature.
