In Defence of Marx s Account of the Nature of Capitalist Exploitation
ABSTRACT: According to Marx, at any given epoch of a given society, [there is] a quantity of
necessaries [recognized as] the necessaries of life habitually required by the average worker. The
variations in the type and amount of goods recognized as necessary for life between different epochs
and different societies is due to the different physical conditions and to the different degrees of
civilization and comfort prevalent. In advanced capitalist societies, the necessities of life include a
heated dwelling, food, clothing, and access to some means of transportation, be it public or private.
However, the average laborer in advanced capitalist societies has ... Show more content on

But the average laborer in advanced capitalist society has access not only to the necessaries of life but
to a variety of luxury items as well. For example, the average worker has access to at least some
subset of the following luxury items: fine food and drink; an automobile; a television set; a hi fi set.
In this paper, I will (I) explain Marx s theory of the nature of capitalist exploitation; and (II) indicate
how the phenomenon described in the previous paragraph may be interpreted as evidence against
Marx s theory, and sketch an interpretation of this phenomenon according to which it is consistent
with Marx s theory. My interpretation will suggest that the average worker s access to luxury items
can be explained by the necessity in capitalism of reproducing the working class.
(I) In some of his early works, Marx suggests that the poverty of the workers goes hand in hand with
capitalist production. For example, in Alienated Labor he claims that in capitalist society, labor
produces marvels for the wealthy but it produces deprivation for the worker (61). Indeed, so much
does the realization of labor appear as diminution [of the worker] that the worker is diminished to the
point of starvation (61).
This view, that as a necessary result of the capitalist mode of production the average

Compare And Contrast Plymouth And Jamestown
Long before the Founding Fathers, European countries built settlements in the wilderness of the New
World. During the 1600 s, English settlers founded Plymouth and Jamestown along the Eastern Coast
of North America. Puritans established Plymouth to escape the Catholic Church of England. The
Virginia Company established Jamestown in search of fortune. Both settlements managed unavoidable
contact with the natives. Although both Plymouth and Jamestown s interactions with Native
Americans included early encounters, diplomatic intermediaries, and peace treaties, Jamestown s
approach differed from by displaying less aggression. While both settlements had early encounters
with Native Americans, they demonstrated different levels of aggression. Early ... Show more content

Jamestown colonists signed the Treaty of Chickahominy in 1614, which guaranteed that Native
Americans would pay an annual tribute of corn to Jamestown ( Jamestown and the Indians: The First
Decade. ). Jamestown depended on the tribute because much of their agriculture focused on the cash
crop, tobacco ( Jamestown and the Indians: The First Decade. ). In 1616, Openchancanough ordered
the natives to withhold their annual payment ( Jamestown and the Indians: The First Decade. ). When
Natives claimed the tribute had already been payed, the English opened fire killing between 20 and 40
Natives ( Indian Wars List and Timeline. ). Jamestown s demands again ended in a blood bath. In
contrast, John Carver of Plymouth and Massasoit signed a peace treaty which guaranteed a true
allegiance ( The Colonies | Plymouth. ). The treaty assured mutual protection from harm, respect for
property rights, and assistance in time of war ( The Colonies | Plymouth. ). It remained in affect from
April 1, 1621 until the King Phillip War in 1675 ( Indian Wars List and Timeline ). While both
settlements sought treaties, Jamestown used aggression to advance themselves and Plymouth used

Persuasive Speech On Animal Eating Animals
Imagine KFC s fried chicken, McDonalds Big Mac, or Arby s Smoked Italian Porchetta is sitting right
in front of you, waiting for you to add some sauce or salt and pepper on it. Now, imagine being inside
a prison, a cage, looking at the same food, but you can t reach it. Your legs and body has been
genetically enlarged to the extent that you can t even walk to get yourself water let alone the KFC,
McDonald s or Arby s food. Yes, that s the same animal that s in your fried chicken, Big Mac, and
Smoked Italian Prochetta. To consider reducing the amount of suffering these animals go through, one
should consider embracing a vegetarian lifestyle. Eating a diet without any meat or animal flesh not

A major advantage of vegetarianism is the improvement of personal health for the long run. Meat
eaters showed a 300 percent risk of colon cancer in a Harvard investigation whereas a study done by
England and Germany displayed a 40% less cancer risk for those committed to a vegetarian diet (
Vegetarian Foods ). Vegetarianism helps reduces the risk of cancer. Moreover, research shows that
meat consumption often allows overabundance of protein in the body which leads to kidney stones,
osteoporosis, and . . . heart disease ( Vegetarian Foods ). A vegetable diet with grains, beans, and other
protein sources help maintain a balance of protein. Additionally, a rising obesity rate concerns an
overwhelming amount of people who desire to lose weight (in a healthy way). Many can turn to a
vegetarian lifestyle which keeps their weight and health in check. A research study showed how plant
based diet helped people with type 2 diabetes to lose weight . . . and improve their metabolism (
Vegetarian Diet ). Basically, a vegetarian diet even promotes healthy weight loss. The impact of
vegetarianism further extends to a global and environmental level. One of the major global issues
includes the effect human overpopulation on poverty levels. Too many mouths exist, waiting to be fed
though not enough food is readily available. Studies indicate that animals consume approximately
40% of the global grains harvest which could feed millions and billions of starving people on the
planet

Igm Memory Populations
For my experiment, I will be exploring the question of what is the ontogeny, or origination and
development, of IgM memory cells that exist within a mouse. In regards to ontogeny, a more distinct
question that can be asked is what B cell subset are the memory cells developed from, whether it is
marginal zone, follicular, or B 1 cells within the organism. My hypothesis is that the B 1 B cells give
rise to the IgM memory population in mice infected with E. muris, a population that is independent of
T cell help and activation. Previous experiments have analyzed the bridge between basic immunity
and infectious disease. The infectious disease of our interest is that transmitted by ehrlichia, which has
the ability to cause a bacterial infection within an organism. These tick borne pathogens generate an
immune response within the infected organism. While it is the short term immunity process that
allows for the organism to defend itself against the pathogen, it is long term production of immune
system cells that protect the organism against potential future encounters. IgM mediated immunity is
developed over the course of an infection and previous work shows that it remains in the system to
help fight off future infections. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These B cells, after having been phenotyped, are found to express a cell surface marker known as
CD11c. While these cells have been labeled, it has yet to be determined what B cell lineage is giving
rise to these memory cells.
This cell surface marker of CD11c will allow us to distinguish the IgM memory population within our
mice, from other populations of cells that are produced by the immune system during its response to
the foreign antigen. Another indicator that will allow for us to know which cells are those that have
been transferred is through the use of a fluorescent tag known as enhanced yellow fluorescent protein

Indigenous Ethical Issues
1.0 Introduction
Ethics has become an important mainstay to conduct efficient and purposeful research. The ethical
researches involving Indigenous population had been increased over the last two decades and there is
neither any discussion nor dissipation about the result findings with the population being researched
(Stewart et al., 2006). Thus, the critics as well as the Indigenous population had always raised a
question about the benefits, methods and ethical issues of research involving Indigenous population
(Willie et al., 2004). However, numerous principles have been formulated to preserve the rights of
people from being exploitated, out of which, The Nuremberg code (1949) was the first followed by the
World Medical Association Declaration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to build a credible relationship with the Aboriginal population involved in the study that
will help to fetch the valuable study results, thus, the supportive and well negotiated study will be
favourable for both the researchers as well as participants (Holst, 2004). As this is a qualitative study
involving interviews which might require the recording of the interview sessions, therefore, the
clearance need to be obtained from the participants for the recordings and the access of the rights and
responsibilities in ownership need to be discussed and negotiated with the participant, in case, they

Hurricane Katrina Effects
The calamitous natural phenomenon known as Hurricane Katrina brought terrible side effects to lower
class African Americans. A catastrophe like Hurricane Katrina changed the lives of the lower class
African Americans forever because of the devastation from several effects. People today are more
prepared for a natural disaster because Hurricane Katrina was one of the strongest storms to hit the
United States coast within the last 100 years in New Orleans (Brianna Frank). Most of these
ramifications of Hurricane Katrina came from the phycological, economic and medical effects due to
this natural disaster,
Hurricane Katrina has plagued both lower class African American adults and their children due to the
phycological effects. The repercussions of Hurricane Katrina had an everlasting effect on the lives of
most adult victims. Many adults were at risk for being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
This was defined in an article as, an anxiety disorder that can develop after a person has experienced
an ordeal that poses severe physical harm (Hurricane Katrina). A natural disaster like Hurricane
Katrina would have been a primary trigger for causing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Unfortunately,
the realization of this disease was that most adults effected would never be able to feel safe again. On
the other hand, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina on the lives of the innocent children was also just
as devastating. Many children were at the risk of developing a disease called Serious Emotional
Disturbance. This disease would have been caused by a traumatizing event. An example of this was
Hurricane Katrina. The outcome would have caused severe stress on mainly the effected children. In
their future, this disease would challenge the children s thinking and problem coping difficulties. As
discussed in one article, children with SED are not able to cope with their peers or their environment
(Hurricane Katrina). Hurricane Katrina bedeviled the uneducated lower class African Americans as
well as the low income families. Many lower class African American families were already extremely
poor prior to the destruction of Hurricane Katrina. These people were without adequate transportation

In the early stages of the war, the fastest route to advancement in the military for women was service
in medical and auxiliary units.
Pilots
For Soviet women aviators, instrumental to this change was Marina Raskova, a famous Russian
aviatrix, often referred to as the Russian Amelia Earhart . Raskova became famous as both a pilot and
a navigator in the 1930s. She was the first woman to become a navigator in the Soviet Air Force in
1933. A year later she started teaching at the Zhukovskii Air Academy, also a first for a woman. When
World War II broke out, there were numerous women who had training as pilots and many
immediately volunteered. While there were no formal restrictions on women serving in combat roles,
their applications tended to be blocked, run through red tape, etc. for as long as possible in order to
discourage them from seeing combat. Raskova is credited with using her personal connections with
Joseph Stalin to convince the military to form three combat regiments for women. Not only would the
women be pilots, but the support staff and engineers for these regiments were women. The Soviet
Union was the first nation to allow women pilots to fly combat missions. These regiments flew a
combined total of more than 30,000 combat sorties, produced at least thirty Heroes of the Soviet

The Effects Of Alcohol And Drugs On Americ From A Gender...
The History of Alcohol and Drug Abuse in America: From a Gender and Social Perspective
In examining the use and abuse of alcohol and drugs, many of the studies often focus upon
demographics that are predominantly concerned with a person s socio economic status. However, in
actuality, one s gender played a significant role as well, not necessarily because of biological issues,
but due to social norms and so forth. In order to gain a full understanding about the pathways for
alcohol and drugs, it s necessary to examine its evolving history in the United States from the past few
centuries and the roles of wealth and social class, social norms, and availability in combination with
gender differences. It will demonstrate the fact that each gender has been more susceptible to using
some of these specific substances at differing rates and that drug use that is illegal today was once
considered to be normal. The history of alcohol use in the United States is actually quite different than
many people would think. Throughout most of the history of the United States, even going as far back
as the Colonial period, alcohol use was mostly relegated to males. Not only did males mainly consume
alcohol, but it was not often abused. In fact, the use of colonial America was governed by legal and
moral sanctions which maintained a norm of moderate drinking (Gusfield 1986). Before the American
Revolution took place, drinking was not an issue socially, as society was very orderly.

Intersectionality In Tony Kushner s Angels In America
Perhaps more than any other disease before or since, syphilis... provoked the kind of widespread moral
panic that AIDS revived when it struck America in the 1980 s (Allen. Searchquote). Angels in
America: Millennium Approaches by Tony Kushner, follows several characters during 1985 1986 in
New York, during the Reagan era. This was a time of an emerging gay culture, the spike in
HIV/AIDS, and the focusing on furthering and improving one s self. Kushner shows the progressing
times and widespread panic and beliefs through his complex characters. Their identities work with and
through each other to grant privileges or create oppressions, this is also known as intersectionality.
However, how does intersectionality shape the opportunities and obstacles of Kushner s characters
Belize, Roy Cohn, and Prior Walter? This essay will explore how each of these characters lead
different lives, despite having one thing in common; they are all gay men, facing the fear of
contracting AIDS, or knowing someone else who does. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

homophobic and transphobic violence, racial slurs, and prejudice. We know now how Belize is treated

Evaluation And Recommendations For New Training Programs
Evaluation and Recommendations for New Training Programs With the downturn of the economy, and
the increase of globalization, organizations continuously are restructuring its operations to handle the
company s demands. Modern day organizations strive to stay ahead of the marketplace. As the
workforce shifts from hard labor to knowledgeable workers, human resource management need to

excellent job skills in the latest technology, industry and competition. In this case, as the appointed
Training Director of Reliance Reliable LLC, I will be reviewing and evaluating the employee s
internal and external training program and giving my recommendation on three methods/models to
improve training needs, assessments, and implementation strategies to be used as an inclusion in the
new employees handbook. Strategic Approach to Training An organizations exclusive purpose is to
align its training program with its overall company objectives. Many companies use a systematic
approach to training. As explained by Carter McNamara, n.d. A systematic approach to training
includes taking the time to analyze what results the organization needs from its employees, if
employees are accomplishing those results, and what training and development approaches are needed
by employees to better accomplish those results (para. 2). This should be taken in to an account when

Decline And Decline Of The Early Church Attendance
The problem under examination is the decline in church attendance in America, and the impact of that
decline on our society. The purpose of the research was to ascertain the factors that contribute to the
decline in church attendance. The research methodology that was used was the qualitative method.
Empirical data from the scholarly research was closely examined and analyzed to determine the five
main reasons for this decline. They are as follows: 1) Secularization of Society 2) Inability of the
Organization to Adapt to ever changing times 3) Failure to retain youth beyond Post High School
years 4) Disenfranchised members 5) Lack of Zeal. The church must, therefore, make the effort to
give time and attention to these factors in order to reverse this negative trend. In conclusion, these are
the five things churches need to do to sustain and improve the growth of their congregations. First,
develop a strategies by each particular set of environmental factors internally as well as externally.
Second, resist the temptation to use secularization as a stumbling block, but utilize to formulate
innovative methods of doing business instead of plodding along with business as usual. Third, instill

Thomas Jefferson Failures
Thomas Jefferson once said, When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the
government fears the people there is liberty. Thomas Jefferson believed the best government was the
one that governs the least . Jefferson stressed how a small government with limited powers is most
likely to leave the people alone and have them enjoy the Blessings of Liberty. Furthermore, Thomas
Jefferson was a man who had numerous accomplishments in his life. He was the author of the
Declaration of Independence, author of the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom, founder of the
University of Virginia, and the third President of the United States. His strict interpretation of the
Constitution was due to his belief that the charter was designed to provide the people with a say in
governmental affairs. Mr. Jefferson won the approval from the working class because he fought for
them and not the powerful interests of the wealthy. Although Jefferson was a vocal and active leader in
the rights of states, his recommendation of the Embargo Act and his support of the Non Intercourse act
resulted in his failure as the Commander In Chief.
While Thomas Jefferson s tenure in office proved to be a failure, he was successful in some aspects of
his presidency. His Inaugural Address of 1801 was very empowering and centered around the theme
of reconciliation. Jefferson talked about how we are all Federalists and Republicans. Jefferson stressed

Difference Between Capitalism And Capitalism
1)Capitalism is an economic system that supports individual ownership of property and the production
of goods and services for private gain. This system is often guided by the forces of demand and supply
which implies minimal government intervention.Capitalist mode of production according to Marx is
the product of the industrial revolution and the division of labor coming from it .In Marx s capitalism
division of labor is necessary for production. This division affects the working class in such way
according to Marx that they become crippled beings .It is through this process of becoming crippled
that they experience what is called acute alienation .Alienation in a capitalist society is when the
workers divide from their humanity because the worker can only express themselves through
labour. Each worker becomes an instrument,a thing, and not a person in the eyes of capitalism.Under
Marx s capitalist reality, the division of labor is a necessary condition for commodity production .This
division attacks the working class at the root of their life.In fact according to Marx the alienation
mentioned earlier has several dimensions. The first being the worker becoming estranged and not only
from the products of his or her labor but also from the production of his or her labor.Second being the
workers activities belonging to the capitalist and the translation of this into the loss of the workers
self.Which essentially means he or she enstraging his or herself from themselves

Summary 2008 Financial Crisis
The financial crisis began in early 2006 when the subprime mortgage market in the U.S. began to
display an increasing rate of mortgage defaults. These defaults lead, in late 2006, to a decline in US
housing prices after nearly a decade of exceptionally high growth. Many Americans watched as their
primary source of wealth become increasingly devalued. By late 2007, the prime mortgage markets
were showing higher than normal default rates as well.
Collateralized Mortgage Obligations (CMOs), a type of collateralized debt obligations (CDOs),
allowed these problems to spread from the mortgage market to other sectors of the economy, having
especially widespread effects on financial markets as a whole. CMOs were mortgage backed securities

These liquidity problems turned to insolvency in September of 2008, when private lending froze
completely in a number of important credit markets, such as commercial paper. As a result, non
financial businesses were unable to get access to the financing they required to function normally,
leading to problems in the real economy.
The real economy began to exhibit problems related to the financial crisis as early as March 2006,
when investment expenditure on residential structures began to decline. In early 2008, this decline
spread to investment in business equipment and consumer spending on durable goods. It wasn t until
the summer of 2008 that consumer spending broadly and GDP began falling, signs of a recession. (In
December 2008, the National Bureau of Economic Research, official arbiter of business cycles dated
the formal beginning of the recession as December 2007.) While the public had been concerned about
recession for much of the year, it wasn t until the fall that the economy began to decline at more than a
6% annual rate. Congress responded by passing the TARP plan to assist failing financial institutions.
This plan was meant to decrease the severity of the recession by treating its cause: the financial crisis.

Why Do Red Tastes Like Tar
Red tastes like tar. Can you imagine your whole life seeing stop signs, or red traffic lights and all you
can taste is what can only be described as a combination of tar and body odor? Synesthesia is defined
as the blending of senses such as having all the letters of the alphabet combined with a particular color
or being able to look at a color and taste an actual taste and smell an actual smell. I don t just dislike
the color red because it clashes with my skin tone I dislike it because tar does not taste satisfying.
Synesthesia although not something I have known about forever has definitely become an extremely
important and influential part of my life. The ability to look at paintings and not only see the painting
but also smell is definitely

Ancient Mesopotamia
Mesopotamia is a Greek word meaning, Land between the Rivers . The Ancient Sumerians
worshipped many different gods and goddesses. They thought that the gods influenced much of what
happened to them in their lives. Babylonian and Assyrian s religious was heavily influenced by the
Sumerians. The Mesopotamians always thought of the importance of god in their life, as each city had
it own god. And at every center of the city, there is a temple to represent that god. Some of the
Sumerian gods and goddesses included: Enki and Anu. The god Ea or Enki as it named by
summerians is one of the most powerful gods in the Mesopotamian. According to the ancient
Mesopotamian gods and goddness article, Enki has associations with wisdom, magic and incantations
. The god Enki was the source of knowledge and he was the patron of the all achievements of
civilization as well as crafts and arts. Enki created human out of clay to show the work of gods to the

Acoording to the ancient Mesopotamian gods and goodness article, Enki was the son of the god An, or
the goddess Nammu and a twin brother of Adad. His wife was Damgalnunna/ Damkina and their
offspring were the gods Marduk, Asarluhi and Enbilulu, as well as the goddess Nanše and the sage
Adapa . As in the ancient mesopotmian gods and goodness, the author explains the history of the god
Enki, as he said, The first attestations of the god Enki date to the Early Dynastic IIIa period, where he
is mentioned in the texts from Fara. As late as the third century BCE he appears as the god Kronos in a
Greek text attributed to the Babylonian priest Berossus, where he was the original patron of the god of
the Eridu . Enki was known as a god who wears a long robes and horned cap. Through history the
cylinder seals pictured the god Enki representing the subterranean waters of Abzu, as well as the
symbol of Ea is a a curved sceptre with a ram s head, a goat fish and a turtle. The reason of creating

Pros And Cons Of A Good Ozone And Good Ozone
Good ozone
Bad ozone
Ozone occurs in two layers of the atmosphere. The ozone that is commonly associated with ozone
depletion and the ozone hole is in the stratosphere, a layer that extends upward from about 10 to 30
miles (15 to 50 kilometers) above the earth. This good ozone shields life on earth from the sun s
harmful ultraviolet rays (UV b).
The layer surrounding the earth s surface is the troposphere. Here, ground level or bad ozone is an air
pollutant that damages human health, vegetation, and many common materials. It is a key ingredient
of urban smog. The troposphere extends from the surface to about 10 miles (15 kilometers) above the
surface. Ground level, or bad ozone , is also called tropospheric ozone while good ozone is called
stratospheric ozone. About 80 90% of all ozone in the atmosphere is found in the stratosphere ... Show

In fact, 90% of the earth s ozone layer is located in the stratosphere. This stratospheric ozone is 6 30
miles high above the ground. Natural ozone creates a protective shield from the sun s damaging rays
onto the earth. Ultraviolet radiation, or UV rays, can create a host of health issues, such as skin cancer,
cataracts and immune system impairments, if UV exposure is too high. Ozone is also commonly used
in mold remediation and as an effective means of odor control.
In our modern technologically advanced society, man made activities have been depleting our ozone
layer faster than ever. As our protective ozone shield becomes compromised, more UV radiation
makes its way to the earth s surface. Increased amounts of UV rays are exemplifying the detrimental
effects on human, animal and agricultural

Doctor Faustus
I. The play Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlow was first published in Manchester by Manchester
Publishing in 1588, no information about the play s first production date was found.
II. Doctor Faustus is contrived of the following: Faustus, a man well learned in medicine and other
knowledge s known to man is dissatisfied with where his life is heading so he calls upon the Lucifer
and His accomplice, Mephistophilis, to teach him the ways of magic. They agree to be his tutors only
if Faustus will sell his soul to Lucifer and be His after 20 years. Faustus agrees and goes through
trying times where he is unsure of his decision and considers repenting but then is persuaded again
and again that the magic powers of the Devil are far more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mephistophilis is very aware about what is going on around him; he does not miss a detail. That is
why he knows how to manipulate people, especially Faustus, into giving him what he wants.
IV. The language of this play is in literary prose. Since it was written well before 1830 colloquial
prose is automatically ruled out. The dialogue in this play is more the thoughts of the characters
instead of their actual words. For example Faustus says, Faustus, begin thine incantations, And try if
devils will obey thy hest, Seeing thou hast pray d and sacrific d to them. (1.29) Here is alone on stage
talking to himself. Normally people when alone do not talk to themselves, but Marlow uses that time
to tell us what Faustus is doing, it keeps us informed. These words seem to be less natural because
they sound like Faustus thoughts instead of his actual dialogue. An example of stage direction with in
the dialogue is when Mephistophilis says, Faustus, thou shalt: then kneel down presently, Whilst on
thy head I lay my hand, And charm thee with this magic wand. (1.120)
V. As stated before, most of the stage directions are written within the dialogue of the script. The few
stage directions in parentheticals are only the entrances, exits, and exeunts: Damn d be his soul for
ever for this deed! [Exeunt all except FAUSTUS and MEPHISTOPHILIS (1.135) Occasionally,

Analysis Of Late Night With Seth Myers-Harvey Weinstein...
The me too hashtag has been used on social media, after many of Hollywood s most famous actresses
came forward with allegations against movie producer, Harvey Weinstein. The hashtag encourages
women and men to speak up about their personal experiences with sexual harassment to promote
awareness. A recent article published by Fortune Magazine addressed how important it is to have a
voice, more than half of all American women 54% have experienced unwanted and inappropriate
sexual advances at some time in their lives . The article states that 33 million U.S women have been
sexually harassed and 95% of male perpetrators of this type of abuse usually go unpunished. The
video Late Night with Seth Myers Harvey Weinstein Apology conveys a compelling message. The
footage efficiently encourages their audience to be aware of sexual harassment, be mindful that their
actions could be interpreted as sexual harassment and be aware that if a woman or man is being
subjected to sexual harassment that it is their responsibility to support and assist the victim not the
alleged perpetrator. With humor, the women of Seth Myers writing team convey this message with
expectancy violation theory, cognitive dissonance and the persuasive theory of planned behavior.
Although the message conveyed in the video is strong, it would be more useful if it could reach a
broader and more diverse audience through narrative paradigm, lead member exchange and the artistic
proof of logos.

Women s Life Of Christianity
The women in the history involved in the church played a variety of roles in their life of Christianity.
During early Christianity, they were mostly health care givers, teachers, and missionaries. Until recent
times, women were mostly excluded from higher church positions such as episcopal and clerical jobs
within the churches. However a good number of women have been influential in the life of the church
from contemporaries of Jesus, to subsequent saints, theologians, doctors of the church, missionaries,
abbesses, nuns, mystics, founders of religious institutes, military leaders, monarchs and martyrs.
Christianity from the start placed men in positions of authority in marriage, government, community,
family, and pretty much anything. The religion only allowed membership of priests to males only.
There was a wide following amount of women with an enhanced social status, while they believed and
practiced Christianity, they were only allowed to follow the men. Later centuries, as religious groups
of women and nuns flourished, women came to play an important role in Christianity through
convents and abbeys and have continued through history to be active. They mostly participated in
schools, hospitals, nursing homes and monastic settlements. A lot has changed in recent decades, with
the ordination of women in some churches have become pretty popular. Focusing on the early century
of Christianity, played a huge role in re defining a women s credibility within the Christian

Cardiovascular Disease In Men
Although men had ruled the earth for years together, the male gender is highly susceptible so far heart
disease is concerned . More men are living with and dying of Coronary Heart Disesse (CHD) than
women and have more hospital discharges for Cardiovascular disease ( CVD ) and CHD. The
prevalence of CHD is higher in men within each age stratum until after 75 years of age, which may
contribute to the perception that heart disease is a man s disease.
The classic risk factors for CVD are the same in women and men, but there are gender differences in
the prevalence of risk factors. Dr Bernadine Healy first introduced the concept of the Yentl syndrome
in 1991, suggesting gender bias in the management of CHD.

Decreased sexual activity and function are common in patients with CVD and are often interrelated to
anxiety and depression. The Stockholm Heart Epidemiology Programme (SHEEP) study of post MI
patients (50% women) found that those who were sedentary had a higher risk of MI with sexual
activity (relative risk 4.4) than did those who were physically active (relative risk 0.7). Sexual activity
is reasonable for patients who can exercise ≥3 to 5 METS without angina, excessive dyspnea,
ischemic ST segment changes, cyanosis, hypotension, or arrhythmia (Class IIa; Level of Evidence C).
In 2005, the Princeton Conference suggested that post MI patients who had undergone successful
coronary revascularization or had a treadmill test without ischemia could resume sexual activity 3 to 4
weeks after MI. CABG and most other heart surgeries (eg, valve repair/replacement) are commonly
performed through a median sternotomy, it is generally recommended that sexual activity be delayed
for 6 to 8 weeks after CABG and non coronary open heart

The E FM should have communicated to people s feelings to encourage behaviour change to
overcome barriers.
The actual change process should have included a Sense of Urgency . The positive promotion of in
house services, and the expense of contracted services should have been repeatedly and strenuously
broadcast. This would have altered people s behaviour to believe the change was necessary and
beneficial.
A Project Team or Guiding Coalition should have been formed by the E FM, to drive the change
effort.
An improved Vision or change strategy would have helped sell the change with a sense of emotion.
The Vision should have been broadcast in additional formats and regularly re publicised.

Bluegrass Scholarship Essay
I would like to take the time to thank you for your incredible generosity in awarding me with the
Kelley Shannon Gibson Bluegrass Scholarship. Coming to SUNY Plattsburgh, I was looking for a
club that would allow me to express myself musically and would also help me to build friendships that
would last throughout college. I am glad that the bluegrass club ended up being the club that provided
me with so many opportunities.
After attending the club and organization fair at Plattsburgh in the fall, I fell in love with the idea of
joining a Bluegrass club. I was welcomed from the first jam session that I attended, and I knew that
this would be a club where I would stay for a very long time. The opportunity to sing and to play a

  • 3. In Defence of Marx s Account of the Nature of Capitalist... In Defence of Marx s Account of the Nature of Capitalist Exploitation ABSTRACT: According to Marx, at any given epoch of a given society, [there is] a quantity of necessaries [recognized as] the necessaries of life habitually required by the average worker. The variations in the type and amount of goods recognized as necessary for life between different epochs and different societies is due to the different physical conditions and to the different degrees of civilization and comfort prevalent. In advanced capitalist societies, the necessities of life include a heated dwelling, food, clothing, and access to some means of transportation, be it public or private. However, the average laborer in advanced capitalist societies has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But the average laborer in advanced capitalist society has access not only to the necessaries of life but to a variety of luxury items as well. For example, the average worker has access to at least some subset of the following luxury items: fine food and drink; an automobile; a television set; a hi fi set. In this paper, I will (I) explain Marx s theory of the nature of capitalist exploitation; and (II) indicate how the phenomenon described in the previous paragraph may be interpreted as evidence against Marx s theory, and sketch an interpretation of this phenomenon according to which it is consistent with Marx s theory. My interpretation will suggest that the average worker s access to luxury items can be explained by the necessity in capitalism of reproducing the working class. (I) In some of his early works, Marx suggests that the poverty of the workers goes hand in hand with capitalist production. For example, in Alienated Labor he claims that in capitalist society, labor produces marvels for the wealthy but it produces deprivation for the worker (61). Indeed, so much does the realization of labor appear as diminution [of the worker] that the worker is diminished to the point of starvation (61). This view, that as a necessary result of the capitalist mode of production the average ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Compare And Contrast Plymouth And Jamestown Long before the Founding Fathers, European countries built settlements in the wilderness of the New World. During the 1600 s, English settlers founded Plymouth and Jamestown along the Eastern Coast of North America. Puritans established Plymouth to escape the Catholic Church of England. The Virginia Company established Jamestown in search of fortune. Both settlements managed unavoidable contact with the natives. Although both Plymouth and Jamestown s interactions with Native Americans included early encounters, diplomatic intermediaries, and peace treaties, Jamestown s approach differed from by displaying less aggression. Jamestown colonists signed the Treaty of Chickahominy in 1614, which guaranteed that Native Americans would pay an annual tribute of corn to Jamestown ( Jamestown and the Indians: The First Decade. ). Jamestown depended on the tribute because much of their agriculture focused on the cash crop, tobacco ( Jamestown and the Indians: The First Decade. ). In 1616, Openchancanough ordered the natives to withhold their annual payment ( Jamestown and the Indians: The First Decade. ). When Natives claimed the tribute had already been payed, the English opened fire killing between 20 and 40 Natives ( Indian Wars List and Timeline. ). Jamestown s demands again ended in a blood bath. In contrast, John Carver of Plymouth and Massasoit signed a peace treaty which guaranteed a true allegiance ( The Colonies | Plymouth. ). The treaty assured mutual protection from harm, respect for property rights, and assistance in time of war ( The Colonies | Plymouth. ). A major advantage of vegetarianism is the improvement of personal health for the long run. Meat eaters showed a 300 percent risk of colon cancer in a Harvard investigation whereas a study done by England and Germany displayed a 40% less cancer risk for those committed to a vegetarian diet ( Vegetarian Foods ). Vegetarianism helps reduces the risk of cancer. Moreover, research shows that meat consumption often allows overabundance of protein in the body which leads to kidney stones, osteoporosis, and . . . heart disease ( Vegetarian Foods ). A vegetable diet with grains, beans, and other protein sources help maintain a balance of protein. • 6. Igm Memory Populations For my experiment, I will be exploring the question of what is the ontogeny, or origination and development, of IgM memory cells that exist within a mouse. In regards to ontogeny, a more distinct question that can be asked is what B cell subset are the memory cells developed from, whether it is marginal zone, follicular, or B 1 cells within the organism. My hypothesis is that the B 1 B cells give rise to the IgM memory population in mice infected with E. muris, a population that is independent of T cell help and activation. Previous experiments have analyzed the bridge between basic immunity and infectious disease. The infectious disease of our interest is that transmitted by ehrlichia, which has the ability to cause a bacterial infection within an organism. These tick borne pathogens generate an immune response within the infected organism. While it is the short term immunity process that allows for the organism to defend itself against the pathogen, it is long term production of immune system cells that protect the organism against potential future encounters. IgM mediated immunity is developed over the course of an infection and previous work shows that it remains in the system to help fight off future infections. ... While these cells have been labeled, it has yet to be determined what B cell lineage is giving rise to these memory cells. Another indicator that will allow for us to know which cells are those that have been transferred is through the use of a fluorescent tag known as enhanced yellow fluorescent protein ... A catastrophe like Hurricane Katrina changed the lives of the lower class African Americans forever because of the devastation from several effects. People today are more prepared for a natural disaster because Hurricane Katrina was one of the strongest storms to hit the United States coast within the last 100 years in New Orleans (Brianna Frank). Most of these ramifications of Hurricane Katrina came from the phycological, economic and medical effects due to this natural disaster, Hurricane Katrina has plagued both lower class African American adults and their children due to the phycological effects. The repercussions of Hurricane Katrina had an everlasting effect on the lives of most adult victims. Many adults were at risk for being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This was defined in an article as, an anxiety disorder that can develop after a person has experienced an ordeal that poses severe physical harm (Hurricane Katrina). A natural disaster like Hurricane Katrina would have been a primary trigger for causing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Unfortunately, the realization of this disease was that most adults effected would never be able to feel safe again. On the other hand, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina on the lives of the innocent children was also just as devastating. Many children were at the risk of developing a disease called Serious Emotional Disturbance. This disease would have been caused by a traumatizing event. An example of this was Hurricane Katrina. The outcome would have caused severe stress on mainly the effected children. In their future, this disease would challenge the children s thinking and problem coping difficulties. As discussed in one article, children with SED are not able to cope with their peers or their environment (Hurricane Katrina). Raskova became famous as both a pilot and a navigator in the 1930s. She was the first woman to become a navigator in the Soviet Air Force in 1933. A year later she started teaching at the Zhukovskii Air Academy, also a first for a woman. When World War II broke out, there were numerous women who had training as pilots and many immediately volunteered. While there were no formal restrictions on women serving in combat roles, their applications tended to be blocked, run through red tape, etc. for as long as possible in order to discourage them from seeing combat. Raskova is credited with using her personal connections with Joseph Stalin to convince the military to form three combat regiments for women. Not only would the women be pilots, but the support staff and engineers for these regiments were women. The Soviet Union was the first nation to allow women pilots to fly combat missions. • 10. The Effects Of Alcohol And Drugs On Americ From A Gender... The History of Alcohol and Drug Abuse in America: From a Gender and Social Perspective In examining the use and abuse of alcohol and drugs, many of the studies often focus upon demographics that are predominantly concerned with a person s socio economic status. However, in actuality, one s gender played a significant role as well, not necessarily because of biological issues, but due to social norms and so forth. In order to gain a full understanding about the pathways for alcohol and drugs, it s necessary to examine its evolving history in the United States from the past few centuries and the roles of wealth and social class, social norms, and availability in combination with gender differences. It will demonstrate the fact that each gender has been more susceptible to using some of these specific substances at differing rates and that drug use that is illegal today was once considered to be normal. The history of alcohol use in the United States is actually quite different than many people would think. Throughout most of the history of the United States, even going as far back as the Colonial period, alcohol use was mostly relegated to males. Not only did males mainly consume alcohol, but it was not often abused. In fact, the use of colonial America was governed by legal and moral sanctions which maintained a norm of moderate drinking (Gusfield 1986). Before the American Revolution took place, drinking was not an issue socially, as society was very orderly. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was a time of an emerging gay culture, the spike in HIV/AIDS, and the focusing on furthering and improving one s self. Kushner shows the progressing times and widespread panic and beliefs through his complex characters. Their identities work with and through each other to grant privileges or create oppressions, this is also known as intersectionality. However, how does intersectionality shape the opportunities and obstacles of Kushner s characters Belize, Roy Cohn, and Prior Walter? Strategic Approach to Training An organizations exclusive purpose is to align its training program with its overall company objectives. Many companies use a systematic approach to training. The purpose of the research was to ascertain the factors that contribute to the decline in church attendance. The research methodology that was used was the qualitative method. Empirical data from the scholarly research was closely examined and analyzed to determine the five main reasons for this decline. They are as follows: 1) Secularization of Society 2) Inability of the Organization to Adapt to ever changing times 3) Failure to retain youth beyond Post High School years 4) Disenfranchised members 5) Lack of Zeal. The church must, therefore, make the effort to give time and attention to these factors in order to reverse this negative trend. • 16. Thomas Jefferson Failures Thomas Jefferson once said, When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty. Thomas Jefferson believed the best government was the one that governs the least . Jefferson stressed how a small government with limited powers is most likely to leave the people alone and have them enjoy the Blessings of Liberty. Furthermore, Thomas Jefferson was a man who had numerous accomplishments in his life. He was the author of the Declaration of Independence, author of the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom, founder of the University of Virginia, and the third President of the United States. His strict interpretation of the Constitution was due to his belief that the charter was designed to provide the people with a say in governmental affairs. Mr. Jefferson won the approval from the working class because he fought for them and not the powerful interests of the wealthy. Although Jefferson was a vocal and active leader in the rights of states, his recommendation of the Embargo Act and his support of the Non Intercourse act resulted in his failure as the Commander In Chief. While Thomas Jefferson s tenure in office proved to be a failure, he was successful in some aspects of his presidency. His Inaugural Address of 1801 was very empowering and centered around the theme of reconciliation. Jefferson talked about how we are all Federalists and Republicans. Difference Between Capitalism And Capitalism 1)Capitalism is an economic system that supports individual ownership of property and the production of goods and services for private gain. This system is often guided by the forces of demand and supply which implies minimal government intervention.Capitalist mode of production according to Marx is the product of the industrial revolution and the division of labor coming from it .In Marx s capitalism division of labor is necessary for production. This division affects the working class in such way according to Marx that they become crippled beings .It is through this process of becoming crippled that they experience what is called acute alienation .Alienation in a capitalist society is when the workers divide from their humanity because the worker can only express themselves through labour. Each worker becomes an instrument,a thing, and not a person in the eyes of capitalism.Under Marx s capitalist reality, the division of labor is a necessary condition for commodity production .This division attacks the working class at the root of their life.In fact according to Marx the alienation mentioned earlier has several dimensions. The first being the worker becoming estranged and not only from the products of his or her labor but also from the production of his or her labor.Second being the workers activities belonging to the capitalist and the translation of this into the loss of the workers self.Which essentially means he or she enstraging his or herself from themselves ... That is why he knows how to manipulate people, especially Faustus, into giving him what he wants. IV. The language of this play is in literary prose. Since it was written well before 1830 colloquial prose is automatically ruled out. The dialogue in this play is more the thoughts of the characters instead of their actual words. For example Faustus says, Faustus, begin thine incantations, And try if devils will obey thy hest, Seeing thou hast pray d and sacrific d to them. (1.29) Here is alone on stage talking to himself. Normally people when alone do not talk to themselves, but Marlow uses that time to tell us what Faustus is doing, it keeps us informed. These words seem to be less natural because they sound like Faustus thoughts instead of his actual dialogue. An example of stage direction with in the dialogue is when Mephistophilis says, Faustus, thou shalt: then kneel down presently, Whilst on thy head I lay my hand, And charm thee with this magic wand.
