develop the characters and is influenced by the time period. Mark Twain was born in 1835, and lived
to see the Civil War start. This is a big influence on his writing, because his two most famous works,
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. They both take place in the

Objective: The overall goal of the experiment was to use cyclic voltammetry to characterize the
components of gunshot residue. Specifically, to characterize diphenylamine and copper(II)1. Cyclic
voltammetry is a method of measuring electron transfer through the reduction and oxidation potential
of a compound in solution2. The metal copper and the organic molecule diphenylamine can be
analyzed at the same time with the addition of acetate buffer as a supporting electrolyte. The data from
the voltammeter will be received at different scanning rates in order to examine the electrochemical
behavior. The reactions will be determined to be either electrochemically reversible, irreversible, or
quasi reversible1.
Instruments:
The instrument used was a potentiostat with a glassy carbon working electrode, platinum auxiliary
electrode, and silver/silver chloride reference electrode. This instrument is being used due to its ability
to simultaneously collect data from both diphenylamine and copper with the addition of an acetate
