A Symphony Is Like The World
A symphony is like the world. It must contain everything. (Gustav Mahler). This quote accurately
describes Mahler s outlook and perspective on not just his music, but the way he views life. Mahler s
artistic interpretation served as a stepping stone future musicians would be influenced by for
generations to come. Because of this, Mahler has cemented himself in history by pushing the limits of
the universal language that is music.
Gustav Mahler was born on July 7, 1860, in the German town of Igula. The family began quickly
growing but with only six of the twelve children surviving infancy. His hometown of Iglau was a
thriving commercial area with a rich musical culture.(Wikipedia) This is where Mahler was introduced

And the Earth Did Not Devour Them by Tomas Rivera
...And the Earth Did Not Devour Him is not a story of one character, but rather of a people. Rivera,
much like in the Actos of El Teatro Campesino, basically uses a stock character. Although each story
seemingly gives more detail and specificity to the character, it can also be interpreted as doing the
exact opposite. In telling of the life of one, Rivera in turn reveals the lives of many. Even though
specific details of each of their lives were obviously different, the core issues still remained; Chicanos
needed change and they needed it immediately. One of the most noticeable techniques Rivera uses
within his novel is the constant changing of the point of view. The novel is centered on an unnamed
male protagonist, however, throughout the story the point of view ranges from that of a mother
praying for her son unwillingly fighting in Vietnam to that of an omniscient narrator, capable of
entering anyone s heads. This often times seemed to be very random and even abrupt. However, it was
through the sporadic sprinklings of changes in point of views that Rivera was able to not only
showcase cultural struggles of the time, but also call for social change as well as reveal the confusion
and uncertainty of the people themselves. First and foremost, this novel is about Chicano people and
the struggles they endured. While each small passage can be viewed as the progression of the
unknown male protagonist, it also gives a multitude of other views as well. Middle aged male

A Brief Note On The Industrial Engineering Of A Motorcycle...
II. Career Episodes
2.1 Career Episode 1
2.1.1 Introduction. In this career episode, I describe an industrial engineering task which I undertook
as part of my educational program in the bachelor degree program in Industrial Engineering
department, Faculty of Engineering, Andalas University, Indonesia, during 1998 2003. In this task, I
worked with my team to solve industrial engineering problems within a motorcycle carburettor
manufacturer by predicting customer demand through forecasting activities, for later, was used to
develop the aggregate production plan, master production schedule, rough capacity planning materials
and capacity planning.

Moreover, production planning and control is useful to meet demand in order to obtain the maximum
profit. In this task, I lead my team to conduct forecasting of customers demand for one year period and
to develop an aggregate planning, master production schedule (MPS), rough cut capacity planning
(RCCP), material requirement planning (MRP) and capacity requirement planning (CRP). These
activities are part of the effective and integrated manufacturing planning and control processes which
is known as MRP II (Manufacturing Resource Planning), the predecessor of enterprise resource
planning (ERP). The relationship of these processes can be seen in Figure 1. Our project was related to
processes of top management planning and operation management execution in this figure.
2.1.3 Personal Engineering Activity
2.1.3.1 Forecasting. Forecasting is the first important activity to determine production schedule in the
future. It was done by predicting the future customer demand for a certain product or several products
which later will become the target for production based on analysis of historical data. There are
several phases for conducting quantitative forecasting, including: 1) Plotting the historical data [there
are some possibility of data plotting: constant, linear, seasonal, cyclical and random] 2) Choosing
several forecasting methods which is

grammar and syntax forms during her conversational exchanges with this examiner.
Pragmatics
Pragmatics is the area of language function that embraces the use of language in social contexts
(knowing what to say, how to say it, and when to say it and how to be with other people). Children
with pragmatic difficulties have great trouble using language socially in ways that are appropriate or
typical of children of their age. Abigail did not demonstrate any difficulty staying on topic or with turn
taking. Her responses were appropriate and relevant with this examiner. She maintained eye contact
during her interchanges with this examiner.

Examples Of Manipulation In King Lear
Rationale
Humans are easily manipulated creatures. The inability to understand, perceive and interpret things
with clarity can be seen as a very dangerous flaw in the design of human beings, as this shortcoming
may lead to the demise of an individual or even a group of people. The manner in which vision and
perception of certain characters in Shakespeare s play King Lear is obscured, is a testament of just
that. Through very unique literal and figurative writing, Shakespeare clearly demonstrates to the
audience or reader just how easily deceived human beings can be. A perfect example of this revelation
is the character, the Earl of Gloucester, who is the helpless victim of conniving manipulation, cleverly
conducted by his illegitimate son, Edmund. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When we are first introduced to Gloucester and Edmund, the Earl introduces Edmund as his bastard
son while joking about the manner in which Edmund was conceived. We are made to understand that
this is Gloucester s routine introduction of Edmund to anyone who might want to know the identity of
his son. As revenge for always being the black sheep and joke of the family, Edmund decides to devise
a plan which sees him rise to power. This is a clear example of Gloucester s inability to realise that by
continuously mocking and devaluing Edmund as a person, he has brewed a strong resentment and hate
within Edmund. In a series of tragic events which unfold successively, Gloucester is made to believe
by Edmund that his legitimate son, Edgar, is concocting a plan to kill the Earl. Credulous as he is, the
Earl blatantly believes Edmund s fabricated story. This is a very clear figurative example of the
blindness aspect in King

The Process of Digestion
The Process of Digestion
Over the course of time there have been many difficult questions and theories about everyday life.
Using physiology amp; chemistry, those questions have been able to be answered. From the mixture of
gases in the air we breathe to the organic substance of plastic or paper, chemistry can be seen
everywhere. However, most people mistook the power of chemistry in our own bodies. How is it that
a simple slice of bread, once consumed, can turn into fuel for the human body? Using the digestive
system and its many organs through the process of digestion and metabolism is how our bodies
receive the energy it needs to continue on throughout the day and the rest of our lives. Chemistry then
kicks in as food starts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amino acids and fatty acids are mainly where we get our energy from. The whole process starts when
we eat and our metabolism breaks down the food. The amino acids and fatty acids are absorbed into
the blood where once they attach to a cell, they are then able to speed up the chemical reactions taking
place while the amino and fatty acids are monitoring the reactions in the cell some energy is released.
This energy can be stored in the body until it is needed (Online School Edition, 2011). There are two
forms of metabolism called anabolism and catabolism. Anabolism is storing energy and maintaining
cells while catabolism is all about making energy so that each cell has a specific amount to function
properly (Ballard, 2003). The body s metabolism is made up of many reactions that produce heat or a
calorie. A calorie is a basic unit of heat that measures how much energy a fixed proportion of food
brings into the body. Calories are used to regulate the fat in our bodies too. If a person consumes too
much calories then the calories will turn into fat. The process of metabolism in each person s body is
very unique and different. Some metabolisms run slow, which results in less calories burned and
others burn rather quickly, which results in fewer calories (McKenzie, 2010). Whatever the rate of
metabolism, many can agree that this process is diverse and complicated, but also very fundamental to
everyday life. As everything else in

Change Management Is Important Part Of Any Company
Change Management is a modification in an organizations practice. It is instituted to profit the

enduring landscapes for any organizations as if it s related to business field or health care industry. In

The major challenges that managers and leaders has faced required them to opt change management to
compete in the global economy, leading a diverse workforce, inspiring positive ethics, character, and
personal integrity, culture differences and work related attitudes, and advancing and implementing
technological innovation in the workplace.
The leaders take a focus that is more external, whereas, the focus of managers is more internal.
Leaders have particular set competencies that are more forward thinking than managers. Leaders set a
direction for organization. They motivate their employees, so that the business continues to exist and
hopefully thrive in periods of change. Leaders keep the entity on course and to maneuver around
obstacles that come in its way; for example, a captain commanding his ship at sea, whereas managers
tend to the business at hand and make sure the staff is following proper procedures.
Origins of Change Management Theory
Kurt Lewin s (1947) developed an organizational change model that focused on three different stages
unfreezing, changing, and refreezing. Lewin s three step change model is unique in itself. It enables
and helps leader to make essential changes while minimizing the distraction and making sure the

Different Structures Of The Brain Essay
Structures of the Brain
The Brain Stem
The brain stem or the medulla is the closest to the spinal cord. The brainstem is responsible for most
of the human bodily functions. The brain stem is critical for human survival and normal human
functions. The brain stem is also responsible for information of pain and touch from the head and
neck; it is also responsible for the inputs from the face and the mouth. Reticular formation is a group
of neurons, nuclei, that are important for sleep and wakefulness. In reticular formation there is nuclei
that are a major source of neurotransmitter serotonin. Serotonin is important for regulating mood and
activities.
The Pons
The pons is the region above the brainstem. The pons contains the locus coeruleus, a region of cells
that belong to the reticular formation. The neurotransmitter norepinephrine are necessary for arousal
and attention. These neurons are found in the brain and spinal cord.
The Cerebellum
Connected to the brain stem and is located in the back of the brain is the cerebellum. The cerebellum
is responsible for motor coordination and also some learning involving movement. Once someone
learns a new motor action that information is held in the cerebellum.
The Midbrain
The midbrain is located above the pons. The midbrain has an area called the substantia nigra which
holds different nuclei. The midbrain is responsible for the body s movement that is not covered by the
cerebellum. The neurotransmitter dopamine, that produced by

Ben Quash And Michael Ward
In the book Heresies and How to Avoid Them, authors Ben Quash and Michael Ward present eleven
Christian heresies, their origins, and ways to avoid them, and ending the book by arguing for
orthodoxy through an explanation of Biblical Trinitarianism, why it is important, and why Christians
should defend it. The majority of the heresies discussed deal with the nature of Christ and his
personhood, including Arianism and Docetism. The rest of the discussed heresies deal with issues of
the Christian life and the church, such as Marcionism and Pelagianism. The goal of this book is to
explain a number of basic heresies in order to show why it matters what Christians believe. The
authors of this book presented an argument for Christian orthodoxy by presenting eleven heresies,
refuting them, and then presenting a case for Biblical Trinitarianism. Within each refutation, the
authors gave an overview of the origin of the heresy, including Key Scriptures that were used as
evidence for the heresy or were important in refuting the heresy and backing orthodoxy. After giving a
brief history of each heresy, the authors detail the main defenders of orthodoxy against a given heresy.
Each chapter ends with reasons the heresy is a heresy and affirmations of orthodoxy. For example,
after talking about the origins of Donatism in North Africa because of the unholy consecration of
Caecilian, Augustine s defense of orthodoxy against Donatism is covered detailing how he argued

Alzheimer s Disease
Alzheimer s disease The Silent Killer Who are you? Do I know you? Alzheimer s disease is a very
traumatic and disheartening disease that can affect loved ones in our families and relationships. I will
be discussing the causes and prevention of this disease even though scientific facts and research are
still being tested for validity. Alzheimer s disease was first diagnosed to be a medical condition back
in 1906 by Dr. Alois Alzheimer. Dr. Alzheimer identified this mental illness after witnessing the
mental decaying mind of a woman who experienced memory loss, language problems, and
unpredictable behavior. Alzheimer s disease is the most common form of dementia that usually targets
people over the age of 60. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having Down syndrome can also increase your risk of developing Alzheimer s as well as diabetes.
Diabetes is linked to Alzheimer s due to the fact they have both been linked to cardiovascular diseases.
They both exhibit utilization of glucose in the brains. These two diagnoses are so much alike that it is
hard to tell an Alzheimer s brain from a diabetic s brain. The manufacturing of insulin in the brain is
condensed and the nerve cells are less sensitive. Diabetic drugs are now being tested to see if they
could possibly help out Alzheimer patients. Another factor I found very interesting was that people
with less than 6 years of some type of higher education appear to have a higher risk of developing
Alzheimer s disease. From these studies, it was assumed that the brain stimulation students receive
actually provides some type of protective barrier for the brain therefore not allowing of the onset of
the deterioration of the mind. Now that s a good slogan for college and higher education if you ask
me. Scientists have actually come up with some preventative measures against Alzheimer s and the
onset of this horrendous disease. Physical activity, brain stimulation (such as puzzles, games, regularly
reading, watching television, and any other type of social activity), nutritious diet, and also there is an
ongoing search for a vaccine. I saw where in Europe they actually treat their age related dementia
patients with gingko biloba. Gingko biloba is thought

contents are different The Turn of the Screw is a Gothic ghost story, whereas Death by Landscape is a
more psychological story of a woman who tries to deal with a childhood trauma, namely the death of
her friend , but there are some aspects in which the stories are similar. Both texts have an open ending,
which is particularly interesting in terms of building up the unresolved suspense of the story. The
suspense created in the narration is not only achieved by the open ending, but also by literary

The Turn of the Screw can be read as a real ghost story: in this case, the ghosts are real and the story
really is about good and evil. This does not particularly mean that the governess is mentally stable,
because she still has her issues (like the fact that she falls in love easily), but it would explain her
protecting behavior towards the children. In this reading, Miles s death is interpreted as a consequence
of the governess s failure of protecting the children: she was unable to shield him from Peter Quint s
evil. In the psychological reading, the governess is mentally unstable and hallucinates the appearance
of the ghosts. In fact, this seems to be a plausible reading of the story, taking all the arguments of the
governess s unreliability in account. That way, the hallucinations are a consequence of her isolation
and sexual frustration. Miles s death is then interpreted as the governess (accidentally?) choking the
boy to death. Death by Landscape can be interpreted in the same ways: the one in which the narrator is
reliable and Lois innocent, or the one in which the narrator is unreliable and Lois killed Lucy. The
story does contain some arguments that Lois killed Lucy: the gap at the moment of Lucy s
disappearance, Lois being jealous of

Eric Liu displays his disagreement on their Bronx homestead s being named into some brand called

Either risk the chance of getting something more or play it safe. In the business world, every
companies and organization has a similar goal that is take company and organization to the top.
Branding is one of the most efficient and convenient way of helping business to rise. For any
company, it is very difficult to earn or promote without advising their products or marks. I disagree
with the writer, I don t think that it s going to affect the community s soul and spirit nor its going to
affect the national treasure of the place. The cost for this is while advertising the brand is that you
must pay the other party a certain amount in exchange for the branding. This has both side advantage,
Firstly the public space is getting paid for adverting the brand. And earning in a legal manner which
helps others is not a negative thing. The public space would earn freely with any obstacles in their
way. With the help of an extra earning the public space can be made way better. When a public space,
such as parks or school or even buses become a source of advertisement the idea that we are equal as

Chitra Divakaruni is the author of Live Free and Starve. She emigrated from India to the United

as an immigrant, now living in America, gives her the knowledge to write on this topic. Divakaruni
has personal insight to how child laborers are treated in third world countries and how they live verses
the United States. A preconception Divakaruni has is the United States tries to interfere and govern
other countries without considering the consequences. In paragraph eight, Divakaruni asks if
Americans are ready, if the bill is passed, to take responsibility for rendering these children homeless
and jobless.
Divakaruni is writing to inform her audience on child labor. Child labor is terrible, but the

Flawed Performance Appraisals
The performance appraisals process is flawed in many ways. Lack of preparation, time, training, and
professionalism are a few examples of how the system is flawed. The individual completing the
application often has many tasks that supersedes taking the appropriate time necessary to accurately
keep notations of an employee s performance throughout the year. The lack of time leads to an
employee receiving a performance review on the most recent accounts of his or her job performance

Each department in an organization needs to have guidelines set forth outlining the duites,

same method of algebraic reasoning as the Greeks they reject the negative solutions that the Hindus
were using and would solve the quadratic equations by recognizing two solutions, possibly irrational.
The algebra of the Arabs in the Middle East was entirely rhetorical and like the Hindus, the Arabs

of positional notation. These numerals (the Hindu Arabic system of numeration) which are used

the solution of cubic equations by geometric methods involving the intersection of conics. In the 16th

negative numbers could be used in an algebraic equation and many of the mathematicians would

Exterior Cruciate Ligament Summary
The purpose of the clinical commentary is to provide a good understanding on how anterior cruciate
ligament (ACL) is loaded during weight bearing and non weight bearing exercises. Thus this article
compared the most commonly utilized weight and non weight bearing exercises in ACL reconstruction
rehabilitation. Both weight bearing and non weight bearing showed increased load on ACL between
ten to 30 degree of knee flexion. The load on ACL decreases beyond 50 degree of knee flexion.
However, the load is greater when performing open kinetic chain exercise such as seated knee
extension compared to the close chain exercises. In order to decrease the force on the ACL with seated
knee extension, the resistance pad should be placed proximal to the

Why Is Weird Al So Popular
Weird Al s funny songs are one reason for his popularity and financial success. Weird Al s popularity
came from transforming famous songs into unique and entertaining parodies. He decided to embrace
the awkwardness of pop culture and turn it into a subject that people can laugh at. In one of Weird Al s
songs, White and Nerdy, he sings of the life of a nerdy boy. He dresses up in button downs and wears
glasses while acting out stuff that a nerdy person would do. The song, having one hundred and eight
million views on YouTube, proves that his music is extremely popular. Before he actually recreates the
song, Weirld Al chooses ones with strong melodies and distinct personalities (60). Weird Al uses songs

Weird Al targets his lyrics and videos toward everyone; his listeners range from small children to
adults. His video are relative to multiple age groups because everyone has felt uncomfortbale with pop
culture before. People often feel uncomfortable when they don t know what s on the charts [or] haven
t listened to any new artists (687). Weird Al confronts that awkwardness and celebrates it in his
songwriting. Often people do not admit to listening to Weird Al, but no song will sell this many copies

music toward people with certain characteristics or personalities. For example, country music is often
targeted toward people who enjoy farming, hunting, being in a more rural environment. Weird Al s
songs can be listened to by any personality type, which makes him popular among everyone. His
parodies made me and my family laugh, proving that is does have an effect on any age and
personality. Clearly, Weird Al s ability to relate to a wide variety of age groups and personalities led to

Wasteland Motherhood
Motherhood is an extremely complicated process that every mother goes through when taking on the
choice to acquire a child. Based on the individual, this process can be one that is natural or extremely
difficult to execute. Within this process, there are new issues and mindsets that emerge in the threshold
of motherhood that creates intense struggles. In the texts Waste Land (Walker, 2010) by Lucy Walker
and Morning Song by Sylvia Plath the poet and director display these issues and mindsets within these
two different mediums that arise in the never ending process. These texts connect to one another by
demonstrating and including struggles of urges to provide, emotions of detachment, and improving
mindsets through the process of motherhood. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the article, Plaths Morning Song David Ketterer makes the statement about how Morning Song
expresses Plath s conflicted feelings at the birth of her first child... (242 243). These feelings are
implied adamantly throughout the poem and start off as feelings of detachment. The speaker of
Morning Song exclaims We stand around blankly as walls when describing her mental composure to
the audience. At this point the reader understands that the concept of motherhood is wildly new to the
speaker and she has no idea what to do or how to connect herself to the child. The speaker also depicts
the child as a new statue (line 4). This comparison is one that shows the audience that the mother sees
the child as something mystifying and not human. Consequently, if she cannot view the child as an
opposite of these characteristics, then she will fail to recognize her duties as a mother. And if she fails
to recognize this, she will also fail to create a stable connection and positive feeling towards her new
born child. However, these feelings of detachment later cease to exist towards the final two stanzas of
the poem, unlike the intense feelings displayed in Waste

Famous Scientist Dbq
With more plants, animals, minerals, and places named after him than any other person it s a wonder
that so few have actually heard of him. Alexander Von Humboldt, born on September 14th, 1769 in
Berlin, was one of the most well known scientist in his day. Humboldt s work contributed to almost
every single field of natural science including biology, ecology, and geology. He published many
books and changed everything about science. Despite all of this he has been almost entirely forgotten
today due to German book burnings throughout World Wars I and II. Many of his ideas still remain

Humboldt s books were so commonly read that they quickly become common place, his theories

its importance for water retention and protection against soil erosion. He warned that humans were
meddling with the climate and that this could have an unforeseeable impact on future generations

Five Principles Of Tragedy
Discuss the principles of tragedy as defined in Aristotle s Poetics. Illustrate these principles by
examining Sophocles play Oedipus the King, in order to establish the link between the theory and
practise of tragedy. Analyse the genre of tragedy as one that reveals dilemma and paradox.
The advent of modern theater as we know it today began with the worship of Dionysus: the god of the
grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness, fertility, theater and religious ecstasy in Greek
mythology and a weeklong competition that welcomed the Spring in ancient Greece. Many great
playwrights were introduced to the World by the means of this weeklong competition including
Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. Sophocles is perhaps one of the pioneers of the genre of tragedy
and his plays Oedipus Rex, Antigone and Oedipus at Colonus have for centuries inspired
contemporary playwrights and theater artists to venture deeper into the understanding of the complex
idea of the individual versus fate. In this essay I intend to examine Aristotle s Poetics and the five

In Oedipus, Sophocles creates a character who s not only the king but, also the solver of the Sphinx s
riddle and hence, can be recognised as a man portrayed better than he would ve been in real life: a

Oedipus as an ideal tragic hero can be derived out of the fact that he comes from a noble and
prosperous background as he s the biological son of the Laius, king of Thebes and the adopted son of
Polybus, the king of Corinth. He also is greatly revered in the society and respected as a very adept
and benevolent king which is evident from the Priest s reference to him as the first of men. Oedipus is
also greatly worried by the Pestilence that haunts the city of Thebes and says the following in that

Jewish Resistance Essay
Resistance, in many ways, was almost impossible for Jewish people. It was also extremely difficult for
citizens in the Nazi controlled countries. There was very little access to weapons. The Germans also
made extremely hard to move about freely. Furthermore, open conflict was not a successful
alternative, as it most often resulted in death. However this did not stop the Jewish people in fighting
for their lives. Resistance took many forms. For some simply living their normal life by going to
secret schools or hidden Synagogues was a form of resiting the Nazis anti Semitic regime. For other
resistance took a violent form, which could range fro simple self defence to planned attacks on the

There is definitely more the Jewish people could have done in order to resist against the Nazi regime.
However it is very unlikely that they could have significantly affected the Nazi soldiers enough to
force change. A total of about 12.5 million soldiers fought for the German army during WW2. Even
the amount of total Jews living in Europe (8 million) does not come close to the number of enlisted
German soldiers. This meant that even if the Jews made more efforts in resisting the Germans it would
still likely be very ineffective. However resisting was still a very courageous effort that helped many
Hews survive and gave all Jews a small sense of hope. Almost 60% of the Jewish population was
brutally slaughtered during WW2 although if it was not for the numerous attempts in resisting the
Germans this number could have been far greater. When thinking about Resistance during the
Holocaust we should not dwell on how little or insignificant it might appear to have been. We should
give credit to the Jewish people given the circumstances they faced. It was amazing that any act of
resistance occurred at all. The acts of resistance performed by the Jews should be greatly admired as
they made great efforts against the odds. However some people tend to overlook these achievement

The Influences In Ambrose Bierce s Life
Ambrose Bierce, a civil war veteran and famous American writer, is most known for his book the

The two biggest things in Bierce s life which influenced his writing were his childhood and the civil

An Ethnographic Study On American Ethnic Identity
African Americans have been suffering a lot through continuous involvement in their lives and
activities since they were treated as slaves in the past. Today, prejudice against Black people is still a
complicated issue. In examining how people in a small group interpret and reinterpret their identities,
my thesis for this ethnographic study aims to illuminate how the ethnographic record provides claims
about African American ethnic identity in order to counter the impact of discrimination.
I have figured out that attendant observation is beneficial to immerse myself into a community, in
order to gain a better information about the intricacies and inner psychology which could not be
obtained from literature or any other methods where information is simply provided. The selected
informant is known as a sample and is highly important for the research that characterizes an

The youngest of four children born to Percy (an accountant and aspiring jazz saxophonist) and
Kathleen, Jim Carrey was an incurable extrovert from day one. As a child he performed constantly, for
anyone who would watch, and even mailed his résumé to The Carol Burnett Show (1967) at age 10. In
junior high he was granted a few precious minutes at the end of each school day to do stand up
routines for his classmates (provided, of course, that he kept a lid on it the rest of the day). Carrey s

Playing a naive salesman who discovers that his entire life is the subject of a TV show, Carrey

Carrey lashed out at Academy members for their narrow minded selection process. Perhaps inspired
by the snub, Carrey threw himself into his next role with abandon. After edging out a handful of other
hopefuls (including Edward Norton) to play eccentric funnyman Andy Kaufman in Man on the Moon
(1999), Carrey disappeared into the role, living as Kaufman and his blustery alter ego Tony Clifton for

Lincoln s Second Reconstruction
President Lincoln has always been a strong believer of free labor and antislavery, but he loved the
Union more. Lincoln understood that liberating slaves to the war could challenge both freedom and
the union. Not only that but effect military recruitment in the North. In August 1861, Union General
John General John C. Fremont commanded federal troops in Missouri to emancipate on all slaves in
his jurisdiction. Though Missouri was still a part of the Union, it was a slave state. This leading to a
bloody battleground between the Union and Confederate. Fremont s order surpassed the requirements
of the First Confiscation Act. This Act only freed slaves who had participated in the Rebel War or who
had master that were disloyal to the Union. Lincoln was furious with Fremont for not following the
Confiscation Act. This caused Lincoln to cancel the order and the general to resign. A growing uneasy
Congress, where Republicans dominated, pushed Lincoln on emancipation; later on Congress passed
the Second Confiscation Act. This law gave Union commanders the right to capture slave property as
their armies marched through confederate territory. This Act helped resolve with the problem of slaves
who fled to the Union. When Lincoln presented the emancipation proposal to his cabinet, there was

Unfortunately, for older established architects learning new designs programs could be challenging
and as a result their business could lack the edge to prosper entirely. Another option is to hire a

brand new programs that an established architect might not have initially accounted for. With so many
advances in technology and now the concern for more sustainable building construction, established
architects may have a difficult time adjusting to technological advances. Although learning new

The Doctor in Spite of Himself is a play that I had previously studied in France like many of Molière s

names, which are rather exotic even for me. I think that because I had previously studied Molière s
work in class, I was expecting this play to be performed in a much more traditional style. I was a little

Throughout the play, I enjoyed the role of music used to set a comic atmosphere and replace the
dialogs during comic scenes (e.g. when they chase each other around). I also thought that they made a
good use of light to indicate the moment of the day the scene was happening or to set the atmosphere
of the scene (e.g. pink colour during the romantic moments). Lastly, I liked the way the play ended.

Essay On Homotopy Analysis Method
Abstract
This research presents Homotopy Analysis Method to Fredholm integral equations of the second kind.
An analytical method solving linear and nonlinear equations. The Homotopy Analysis Method
provides an efficient and powerful tool in solving integral equations. The method provides a great

integral equations of the second kind is analyzed which gives a rapid convergence for the solutions.

Analysis Of Blink By Malcolm Gladwell
Is Blink Good Psychology? Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Jung, once said, The pendulum of the mind
oscillates between sense and nonsense, not between right and wrong. In his book, Blink, Malcolm
Gladwell sets out to prove that the real difference between good and bad decision making has more to
do with our abilities as humans to focus on select, particular details about a situation as opposed to the
sheer amount of information we process, but are the tactics utilized by Gladwell in his novel good
psychology? It is of my belief that Gladwell s work is psychology due to the amount of outside
studies, research, and applications Gladwell incorporates into his book in addition to the fact that it
attempts to follow the eight critical thinking guidelines as per Psychology and the DSM 5. While
Gladwell does not specifically outline how his theory of thin slicing and snap decision making relates

Dallas City Cemetery Anthropology
A great many books have been written about cemeteries in Dallas, Texas. More specifically, many of
these books are based on the pioneer cemeteries of Dallas s founding families. Many of Dallas s older
cemeteries are not in use today for anything more than tours or an occasional local history lesson in a
quiet park, and some of these cemeteries have been absorbed by large funeral companies while others
are protected by private organizations. Dallas s rich history contains a variety of cemeteries that tell us
how burial practices in Dallas have reflected Dallas s societal changes.
Public burial sites were intended to serve the whole community and are closely integrated into
community history. The sites carry multiple social and political ... Show more content on

A wooden marker was generally used with no identification of the deceased. Little thought was given
to marking the grave site because the gravedigger seldom expected to be able to protect and maintain
the site. In the 1840s, as people began to settle into the Dallas area, burial practices changed. These
early pioneers buried their loved ones in unorganized, isolated places usually on the family s land.
Occasionally, the spot on the family farm might even be shared by a neighboring family. Family burial
sites can be found all around Dallas in random places, such as the Letot, Daniel or Caruth family

The Effects Of Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho In The Horror...
The Effects of Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho in the Horror Film Genre
Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho is one of the foundational films in cinema, especially in the horror genre.
The film set new box office records around the world and received 4 OSCAR nominations. The movie
is characterized by plot simplicity, a small cast, new effects, and a handful of locations. In the plot,
Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) steals 40,000 dollars from her employer to spend it with her boyfriend and
ends up in an isolated motel where she meets the proprietor, Norman Bates, who ushers her in a
friendly way. The young woman is later brutally murdered without an explanation, turning the film
into a mystery. The subsequent events indicate that Norman has been hiding a most bizarre secret. A
secret that, at the time, no one watching the film would have guessed. Since its release in 1960, the
movie has had a significant influence on film making and audiences alike. Psycho changed the way
movies worked by owning up to the notion that rather than existing as a dream to be inhabited, movies
are a game to be played. This paper will demonstrate just how profoundly the movie Psycho has
affected the film industry.
Tactical Changes in Video Production
Firstly, Psycho spearheaded one of the most decisive changes in censorship. Psycho was of movie of
many firsts, including the first movie in history to show a toilet flushing on screen. At the time of its
production, censorship rules referred to as Motion Picture

Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD)
Background: Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is a genetic disorder that predisposes to
emphysema and liver cirrhosis. We present a unique vascular complication of this syndrome.
Case report: A 47 year old female with a history of homozygous AATD presented with acute epigastric
pain, near syncope and hypotension. Laboratory tests revealed acute anemia with normal platelet
count and coagulation studies. Abdominal computed tomography angiography detected
hemoperitoneum and hematoma within the gastrohepatic ligament with active extravasation.
Abdominal angiography was suggestive of left gastric aneurysms. Transcatheter arterial embolization
was successfully performed on the proximal left gastric artery to stop the bleeding.
Conclusion: An ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, gastric artery remained a rare site, it is utmost importance to establish early diagnosis in
order to provide urgent intervention; to prevent lethal consequence. Most patients remain
asymptomatic until aneurysm rupture so the majority of patients present to the hospital with acute
abdominal pain with hemorrhagic shock that requires urgent intervention, including ligation or
embolization by surgical or radiological interventional approaches, as in this patient. Transcatheter
embolization is the preferred method in patients with high surgical risk as in our patient and has a
success rate of 85% 10. Anatomically, the splanchnic arteries are defined as celiac, superior
mesenteric and inferior mesenteric arteries, which arise from abdominal aorta. The gastric artery is a
branch of the celiac artery. Common causes of gastric aneurysm formation include periarterial
inflammation, medial degeneration, and arteriosclerosis

  • 2. A Symphony Is Like The World A symphony is like the world. It must contain everything. (Gustav Mahler). This quote accurately describes Mahler s outlook and perspective on not just his music, but the way he views life. Mahler s artistic interpretation served as a stepping stone future musicians would be influenced by for generations to come. Because of this, Mahler has cemented himself in history by pushing the limits of the universal language that is music. Gustav Mahler was born on July 7, 1860, in the German town of Igula. The family began quickly growing but with only six of the twelve children surviving infancy. His hometown of Iglau was a thriving commercial area with a rich musical culture.(Wikipedia) This is where Mahler was introduced to an eclectic variety ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. And the Earth Did Not Devour Them by Tomas Rivera ...And the Earth Did Not Devour Him is not a story of one character, but rather of a people. Rivera, much like in the Actos of El Teatro Campesino, basically uses a stock character. Although each story seemingly gives more detail and specificity to the character, it can also be interpreted as doing the exact opposite. In telling of the life of one, Rivera in turn reveals the lives of many. Even though specific details of each of their lives were obviously different, the core issues still remained; Chicanos needed change and they needed it immediately. One of the most noticeable techniques Rivera uses within his novel is the constant changing of the point of view. The novel is centered on an unnamed male protagonist, however, throughout the story the point of view ranges from that of a mother praying for her son unwillingly fighting in Vietnam to that of an omniscient narrator, capable of entering anyone s heads. This often times seemed to be very random and even abrupt. However, it was through the sporadic sprinklings of changes in point of views that Rivera was able to not only showcase cultural struggles of the time, but also call for social change as well as reveal the confusion and uncertainty of the people themselves. First and foremost, this novel is about Chicano people and the struggles they endured. While each small passage can be viewed as the progression of the unknown male protagonist, it also gives a multitude of other views as well. Middle aged male ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Examples Of Manipulation In King Lear Rationale Humans are easily manipulated creatures. The inability to understand, perceive and interpret things with clarity can be seen as a very dangerous flaw in the design of human beings, as this shortcoming may lead to the demise of an individual or even a group of people. The manner in which vision and perception of certain characters in Shakespeare s play King Lear is obscured, is a testament of just that. Through very unique literal and figurative writing, Shakespeare clearly demonstrates to the audience or reader just how easily deceived human beings can be. A perfect example of this revelation is the character, the Earl of Gloucester, who is the helpless victim of conniving manipulation, cleverly conducted by his illegitimate son, Edmund. ... In a series of tragic events which unfold successively, Gloucester is made to believe by Edmund that his legitimate son, Edgar, is concocting a plan to kill the Earl. Using physiology amp; chemistry, those questions have been able to be answered. How is it that a simple slice of bread, once consumed, can turn into fuel for the human body? Chemistry then kicks in as food starts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Amino acids and fatty acids are mainly where we get our energy from. The whole process starts when we eat and our metabolism breaks down the food. The amino acids and fatty acids are absorbed into the blood where once they attach to a cell, they are then able to speed up the chemical reactions taking place while the amino and fatty acids are monitoring the reactions in the cell some energy is released. This energy can be stored in the body until it is needed (Online School Edition, 2011). There are two forms of metabolism called anabolism and catabolism. Anabolism is storing energy and maintaining cells while catabolism is all about making energy so that each cell has a specific amount to function properly (Ballard, 2003). The body s metabolism is made up of many reactions that produce heat or a calorie. A calorie is a basic unit of heat that measures how much energy a fixed proportion of food brings into the body. Calories are used to regulate the fat in our bodies too. If a person consumes too much calories then the calories will turn into fat. The process of metabolism in each person s body is very unique and different. Some metabolisms run slow, which results in less calories burned and others burn rather quickly, which results in fewer calories (McKenzie, 2010). • 10. Ben Quash And Michael Ward In the book Heresies and How to Avoid Them, authors Ben Quash and Michael Ward present eleven Christian heresies, their origins, and ways to avoid them, and ending the book by arguing for orthodoxy through an explanation of Biblical Trinitarianism, why it is important, and why Christians should defend it. The majority of the heresies discussed deal with the nature of Christ and his personhood, including Arianism and Docetism. The rest of the discussed heresies deal with issues of the Christian life and the church, such as Marcionism and Pelagianism. The goal of this book is to explain a number of basic heresies in order to show why it matters what Christians believe. The authors of this book presented an argument for Christian orthodoxy by presenting eleven heresies, refuting them, and then presenting a case for Biblical Trinitarianism. Within each refutation, the authors gave an overview of the origin of the heresy, including Key Scriptures that were used as evidence for the heresy or were important in refuting the heresy and backing orthodoxy. After giving a brief history of each heresy, the authors detail the main defenders of orthodoxy against a given heresy. Each chapter ends with reasons the heresy is a heresy and affirmations of orthodoxy. The manufacturing of insulin in the brain is condensed and the nerve cells are less sensitive. Diabetic drugs are now being tested to see if they could possibly help out Alzheimer patients. Another factor I found very interesting was that people with less than 6 years of some type of higher education appear to have a higher risk of developing Alzheimer s disease. The Turn of the Screw can be read as a real ghost story: in this case, the ghosts are real and the story really is about good and evil. This does not particularly mean that the governess is mentally stable, because she still has her issues (like the fact that she falls in love easily), but it would explain her protecting behavior towards the children. In this reading, Miles s death is interpreted as a consequence of the governess s failure of protecting the children: she was unable to shield him from Peter Quint s evil. In the psychological reading, the governess is mentally unstable and hallucinates the appearance of the ghosts. In fact, this seems to be a plausible reading of the story, taking all the arguments of the governess s unreliability in account. That way, the hallucinations are a consequence of her isolation and sexual frustration. Miles s death is then interpreted as the governess (accidentally?) choking the boy to death. Death by Landscape can be interpreted in the same ways: the one in which the narrator is reliable and Lois innocent, or the one in which the narrator is unreliable and Lois killed Lucy. Within this process, there are new issues and mindsets that emerge in the threshold of motherhood that creates intense struggles. In the texts Waste Land (Walker, 2010) by Lucy Walker and Morning Song by Sylvia Plath the poet and director display these issues and mindsets within these two different mediums that arise in the never ending process. These texts connect to one another by demonstrating and including struggles of urges to provide, emotions of detachment, and improving mindsets through the process of motherhood. ... Within the article, Plaths Morning Song David Ketterer makes the statement about how Morning Song expresses Plath s conflicted feelings at the birth of her first child... (242 243). These feelings are implied adamantly throughout the poem and start off as feelings of detachment. The speaker of Morning Song exclaims We stand around blankly as walls when describing her mental composure to the audience. At this point the reader understands that the concept of motherhood is wildly new to the speaker and she has no idea what to do or how to connect herself to the child. The speaker also depicts the child as a new statue (line 4). This comparison is one that shows the audience that the mother sees the child as something mystifying and not human. Consequently, if she cannot view the child as an opposite of these characteristics, then she will fail to recognize her duties as a mother. And if she fails to recognize this, she will also fail to create a stable connection and positive feeling towards her new born child. However, these feelings of detachment later cease to exist towards the final two stanzas of the poem, unlike the intense feelings displayed in Waste ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Five Principles Of Tragedy Discuss the principles of tragedy as defined in Aristotle s Poetics. Illustrate these principles by examining Sophocles play Oedipus the King, in order to establish the link between the theory and practise of tragedy. Analyse the genre of tragedy as one that reveals dilemma and paradox. The advent of modern theater as we know it today began with the worship of Dionysus: the god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness, fertility, theater and religious ecstasy in Greek mythology and a weeklong competition that welcomed the Spring in ancient Greece. Many great playwrights were introduced to the World by the means of this weeklong competition including Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. Sophocles is perhaps one of the pioneers of the genre of tragedy and his plays Oedipus Rex, Antigone and Oedipus at Colonus have for centuries inspired contemporary playwrights and theater artists to venture deeper into the understanding of the complex idea of the individual versus fate. However this did not stop the Jewish people in fighting for their lives. Resistance took many forms. Even the amount of total Jews living in Europe (8 million) does not come close to the number of enlisted German soldiers. However resisting was still a very courageous effort that helped many Hews survive and gave all Jews a small sense of hope. Almost 60% of the Jewish population was brutally slaughtered during WW2 although if it was not for the numerous attempts in resisting the Germans this number could have been far greater. In examining how people in a small group interpret and reinterpret their identities, my thesis for this ethnographic study aims to illuminate how the ethnographic record provides claims about African American ethnic identity in order to counter the impact of discrimination.
