When Cybersecurity Policy Is Discussed The Topics Often
When cybersecurity policy is discussed the topics often focus on technology, corporate culture, and
security awareness. The success of an organization in defending its most valuable asset, data, depends
on the proper implementation of several security practices. Ensuring that the human aspect of cyber
security is addressed is vital, for the culture of an organization can greatly impact both the security
posture and defense of information networks.
This paper addresses the human aspects responsible for SCADA System vulnerabilities and provides a
holistic solution to ensure a solid defense. Then we will explore Zero day exploits and how they are
employed as both military and economic tools. Next the topic of bringing your own device ... Show

The NIST, in cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), establish performance
goals that should be met to enhance cybersecurity (The White House, 2013). Because compliance is
voluntary, the standards set by the NIST came from industry best practices to appease private
operators and ensure that the cybersecurity of the nation s critical infrastructure was improved through
compliance. SCADA Systems are pervasive throughout our nation s critical infrastructures which
govern many aspects of the population s daily life. Travel, the movement of goods, essential utilities
and basic life sustainment necessities are all dependent on properly functioning SCADA Systems.
Executive order 13636 ensures that SCADA systems are integrated with and function in conjunction
with other devices that report real time health of operations. Should these systems be compromised,
national security would be placed at risk. An example of vulnerable infrastructure are Very Small
Aperture Terminals (VSATs) which are used for remote transmission of credit card transactions, and
the transfer of data from SCADA systems to government classified systems (Storm, 2015). If these
VSATs are compromised, they provide

The Red Convertible By Louise Erdrich
In the short story The Red Convertible, by Louise Erdrich, there are multiple literary devices used
throughout. However, Erdrich most commonly utilizes theme and symbolism. She uses certain themes
throughout most of her work, as noted by Keri L. Overall in a literary analysis. Indeed, the themes of
Erdrich s stories range from the effects of war on families and personal identity to loss of heritage and
family and personal relationships. Erdrich also employs the use of symbolism in this story, to great
effect. Furthermore, the two most important themes in this story are Brotherhood and War time
trauma, while the most important symbol is the red convertible. The first theme that is prevalent
throughout the story is Brotherhood. The focus of The Red Convertible is the relationship between
Henry and Lyman. Lyman tells this story in order to honor his brother s memory. Erdrich s piece is
told from Lyman s point of view, so the reader does not know Henry s motivations or thoughts.
However, his behavior shows that he loved his brother dearly, and held their relationship in high
regard. When Henry was preparing to depart for Vietnam, he chose to give Lyman the car that had
been a vessel of happiness for them both. One can deduce from this action that Henry did not know if
he would survive the war. After Henry came back from Vietnam, he was a polar opposite of the man
he used to be. When Lyman damaged the car so that Henry would have to fix it, he understood what

The Potential Market Opportunities For Lagunitas Brewing...
The potential market opportunities for Lagunitas Brewing Company (LBC) are:
1. Growth of craft brewed beer market The craft brewing segment of the beer industry has experience
fluctuations in demand from a high of 58% growth in 1995 to a decline of 5% annually from 1997 to
2003 (Gilinksy et al., 2014, p. C 92). However, it is now experiencing rapid growth. At the
commencement of 2012, 6.5% of U.S. beer sales were generated by craft brewers and that number
increased by 15% by the conclusion of the year (Gilinksy et al., 2014, p. C 92). The growth of the
market presents LBC with an opportunity to generate additional revenue.
2. Utilize additional forms of marketing Word of mouth and quality products are the basis of
Lagunitas Brewing Company s marketing approach (Gilinksy et al., 2014, p. C 99). The company also
sponsors touring bands by providing beer and gasoline and donates its beer to festivals and events
primarily involving music (Gilinksy et al., 2014, p. C 97 99). However, it does not employ traditional
marketing, minimal pricing incentives, and push marketing techniques (Gilinksy et al., 2014, p. C 99).
While the company had revenue growth of 46% in 2010 and 60% in the first two quarters of 2011
using this strategy, other marketing techniques such as advertising or digital marketing for example,
can provide LBC the opportunity to increase brand awareness. In the case of digital marketing, the
company has the prospect of reaching more Millennials as they are avid

Comparing Why The Geese Shrieked And Yentl The Yeshiva Boy
Nobody ever said life is easy. In fact, it s really about proving you can face challenges. This is evident
in Isaac Bashevis Singer s short stories Why the Geese Shrieked and Yentl the Yeshiva Boy . Although
The Mother, Yentl, and Hadass, the female characters of these stories, live in different places during
different times, they all face challenges of gender.
The situations that these characters encounter are quite different, at least on the outside. Mother is a
rationalist and the wife of a mystic rabbi. She suggests that there must be a logical explanation for this
sound because slaughtered geese don t shriek but her husband thinks there must be some supernatural
explanation as to why they are making this noise. As a woman, Mother cannot outwardly express her
disbelief that the reason for these shrieking geese is some sort of mystical source without the
permission of her husband. In contrast, Yentl, the main character of Yentl the Yeshiva Boy, is in love
with learning but is forbidden to do so by Jewish law. She has chosen to disguise her ... Show more

Mother stops to talk to the neighbor, asking her did you remove the windpipes to these geese? The

body and pulls out the windpipe, performing an experiment to show that this is why the geese were
shrieking. She discovered the mystery behind the shrieking geese, helped a neighbor, and nicely
proved that there must be a logical explanation for unusual events in the world. Yentl, too, confronts
her problem. She acknowledges that [she] wasn t created for plucking feathers and chattering with
females and therefore does something about it. She uses her disguised appearance and mannerisms as
a way of continuing her studies and cooping with her struggle of gender identity. She knows she will

Malaria As A Vector Borne Disease
Malaria
Introduction
Malaria is a Vector borne disease that affects millions of people every year. It is responsible for over
600,000 deaths yearly. It has the highest infection rate in countries in Africa, this is due to the climate
and health practices. It is carried to humans primarily through mosquitos who transfer between people
when they bite them. In this way, the mosquito is the transport between two humans for the disease.
The disease is transferred through blood and continues to the liver where it enters liver cells. From
there it is put back into the blood in larger numbers and is carried around the body to hijack and shut
down many different systems and functions. In this way it involves almost every system in the body.

Since Smallpox is no longer a danger people are no longer immune to it so if it did get out then it
would cause a pandemic. Malaria has less of a chance of that because it requires mosquitos for rapid
spreading, but there is still a danger of that. I have twice traveled to a country that is at risk for
malaria. If I had contracted it there I could easily have returned to America with it inside me without
being aware of it. This is the only known way that the disease still enters the country.
Malaria s age speaks of an adaptability to it, when comparing a sample from ancient China to one
today there are huge differences to be seen. This indicates that Malaria has a large past that there is
very little known about. Possibly the answer to the ideal treatment lives in its past. By looking at the
past it is possible to see how to form the future.
Anatomy Physiology
Malaria enters the bloodstream with the bite of an infected mosquito it is called a sporocyte. It then
travels to the liver where it rapidly multiplies which is called exo erythrocytic replication
(malaria.com). From there it travels again into the bloodstream. Merozoites infect red blood cells and
continue to replicate there, this bursts the cell. The bursting of the cell spreads the infection and causes
many of the symptoms of Malaria. The infected blood cells also stick to the walls of small blood
vessels near major

Competition in the Golf Industry
An Analysis of Competition in the Golf Industry
It is unknown when the game of golf originated, but it is believed that people began playing in Europe
during the middle ages. In the United States, golf was a sport primarily played by the wealthy
individuals until tournaments began being televised. Since then, golf has grown to be a very lucrative
industry with over 27 million golfers nationwide by the end of the 1990 s. Competition in the Golf
Equipment Industry, a case study written by John E. Gamble of the University of South Alabama, is an
overview of the problems currently facing major companies in the golf equipment industry:
technological limitations (due to golf s governing organizations), a decline in the number of golfers, ...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The state of the current economy paired with the decline in the number of golfers, has caused
companies to focus more on price and volume. Counterfeiting is largely attributable to the decisions
by executives to outsource for cheaper labor to manufacturers in China; who can produce a golf club
for less than $3 per club.
Recommendations
Companies currently operating within the golf industry, specifically Calloway Golf, must change their
current marketing approaches and strategies to withstand the recession and threats facing the industry.
Although Calloway has a strong R D department that tends to remain competitive with products and
technology, there have been little results in reference to scores. It is imperative that if companies are
going to market a product that will help golfers drive further and straighter that the results depict this
so that not to damage the brand name of a product. Secondly, due to the decline in equipment sales
and the number of golfers, prices are dropping and companies are outsourcing to maintain the volume
needed to remain competitive. Companies must be cautious and aware so that counterfeiting may be
reduced. This reduction would also allow companies to reduce their pricing and have more sales
without the competition of these cheaply priced knock offs. In the instance of

America was about to experience the uttermost culture and society rude awakening around the 1960s
as a result of the diverse political, civil rights, and economic, issues it was faced with. Revolving
around this pivot laid the American hippie: the highly influential and extrinsic figure of its vintage

at variance with the prevailing social norm; further feeding into a movement that would then expand
awareness and stretch accepted values. The hippies solutions to the dilemmas of a standardized

Relationship Between T Cell Regulation And Type I Diabetes
Abstract The purpose of this study is to explore the relationships and mechanisms between T cell
regulation and type I diabetes by using NOD mice model. NOD mice can spontaneously develop a
form of autoimmune diabetes which is similar to human Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus. T cells
can destroy beta cells of the pancreatic islets which can produce insulin. Thus, by analyzing the
development of NOD mice autoimmune diabetes to determine potential treatment for type I diabetes.
Introduction
Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases. There are different kinds of diabetes mellitus, but
an abnormal blood sugar level over an extended time always can be detected from patients who have
this disease. Type one diabetes mellitus also known as insulin dependent diabetes, patients with this
type of diabetes have pancreatic beta cells destruction causing absolute lack of insulin with a tendency
to ketoacidosis. It can occur at any age, but more commonly occurs in young people. Patients with
acute onset of metabolic disorders symptoms need insulin injections to survive. This type of diabetes
including immune mediated and idiopathic two subtypes. Immune mediated diabetes often has one or
more autoantibodies present, for example, islet cell antibodies (ICA), insulin autoantibodies (IAA) and
glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 (GAD65) antibodies.

Barbie Dolls On Young Children Essay
Mattel:
Influences of Barbie dolls on young children Mattel is considered one of the most leading industry
when it comes to the invention of toys and video games. Mattel is also a leading brand company that
researches and develops new toys and then buys or license them from inventors. But what exactly are
they doing to convince us consumers to buy their products? For the past decades now, Barbie dolls
mainly created by Mattel have grown tremendously and have made a huge impact to children s lives.
Kids are influenced by what they see on television and therefore automatically drawn to imitate
whatever characters they seem to be interesting. Their characters, dressing, and responsibility
influence young children to change dramatically. Based on A Rhetorical Analysis of Amy Lin s Article
, the writer Amy Lin argues that Barbie dolls and all its associated products fosters or encourage a
consumerist ethos in young girls (children), I agree that Barbie dolls not only influence children based
on materialism but it also encourages a false view of reality. In the article by Amy Lin, given that
Barbie has become the alpha doll (Talbot 74) for girls in today s popular culture, young female
consumers clearly associate only good things with Barbie. The product itself has become a tradition
handed down from mother to daughter or a rite of passage that most girls go through. In this way,
excessive consumption and the effects of branding are handed down as well, as Barbie dolls are

Intelligence In Odysseus
A hero is someone who exceeds the expectations and performs above and beyond the average person.
Odysseus from the epic poem The Odyssey, acts above and beyond his crew and the typical mortal.
Odysseus uses his intelligence throughout his journeys to further develop his courage allowing him to
be resilient in the time of crisis arguing he is a hero.
Odysseus uses intelligence to guide him on his tricky journey home to Ithaca establishing that he is a
hero. When Odysseus and his crew land on the land of the Cyclops, they get trapped in a cave with a
human eating Cyclops named Polyphemus. Polyphemus turns hostile and becomes a serious threat to
Odysseus and his crews chance of returning home. Odysseus uses his intelligence to get out of the
disastrous situation by getting the Cyclops drunk and then blinding Polyphemus by using a stake with
its fiery tip (Homer 9.443) and thrusting it into the single eye on the Cyclops. Odysseus keen sense of
intelligence allows him to predict that Polyphemus would try to get help from his Cyclops neighbors
so he plans ahead telling Polyphemus, Nobody that s my name. Nobody so my mother and father call
me, all my friends (Homer 9.410 411). Odysseus, although physically strong, understands that
outthinking an opponent often leads to victory and in the incident with the cyclops this theory held
true. Odysseus predicted that once he burned the eye, Polyphemus would scream out in pain notifying
his neighbors that something was wrong.

Ben Carson Honesty
In Gifted Hands, Ben Carson, has strived for success and has tried to teach others to also with think
big which he said is a philosophy for success in life, the letters spell out how he strives for success in
his life, but their is three statements that he has made that have really stuck out to me honesty, god, and
talent. Honesty plays a big roll in careers and just life in general, for example when Ben was only
supposed to get a one dollar bill back but the store clerk accidentally gave him a ten dollar bill Ben
had to be truthful and tell her instead of taking the money for himself. Honesty helps Ben in so many
ways but it will also help you because honesty is the key to a easy life and well lying just doesn t get
you anywhere. God was a big part of Ben s journey of becoming a neurosurgeon, you can tell to
because Ben prayed a lot, for example Ben prayed, Lord I need your help! I ve always thought you
wanted me to be a doctor if I fail this class. Please either let me know what else I ought to do or

The Pros And Cons Of Technology And Science
Inventions and Discoveries
Human lifestyle has recently changed through the inventions and discovery of new technology and
science. Technology and science are closely related hence, the technology uses science to answer
problems, while science uses technology to come up with new discoveries. However, technology and
science target different objectives. The objective of science is to provide an answer to the critical
questions, thus help to increase knowledge while the goal of technology is to find answers to real
problems. Even though they have a different objective, they, however, work together to facilitate each
other to grow. The knowledge posed from science led to the creation of technology like telescope
while the telescope technology led to a microscope that allows researchers to discover nature in a new
era.
According to an article by Rice University, a telescope is one of the dominant instruments of what has
been referred to as the Scientific Revolution. However, according to the article, they believe that
telescope was not the invention of scientists but the product of craftsmen. Rice University argue that
glass were cheap, hence the technology for crushing and polishing glasses had development
extensively allover (Rice University). Hence, the development led to a solution for a condition known
as presbyopia. This condition majorly faced the aging where they were unable to read letters held at a
relaxed distance from the eye (Rice University). This led to the

William Tennyson s Ulysses And The Tradition Of The Odyssey
After centuries of serving background noise to her husband Ulysses odes of sea storms, sirens, and
celebrity, the mythological Penelope finally steps into the light in Miriam Waddington s poetic work
Ulysses Embroidered. Functioning as a revisionary text to both the Alfred, Lord Tennyson work
Ulysses and the tradition of The Odyssey itself, Ulysses Embroidered quickly strikes its readers as a
fiercely feminist re envisioning of Penelope and the story she offers up. Waddington s work allows for
an age old legend to be told in a new way with a bold, feminine speaker, but to what end do her
changes remark on Tennyson s original work? By engaging in two separate modes of revision by both
reading against the grain and constantly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This transfer of the power of voice plays out similarly within Waddington s diction choices as pitched
against those of Tennyson. While Tennyson brings to great detail the admirable bravado and intimate
victories of Ulysses journeys, the same marvels are expressed differently through Waddington s
perspective. These events are mentioned, but by listing in passing, not in Ulysses terms of conquest
and action. While Ulysses takes the place of a passive character and only performs an action in his
coming home and climbing the stairs, Penelope fills the seat of the active rescuer and change maker
(25). She truly has a chance to describe him like Tennyson s speaker offhandedly refers to her and to
do so in new terms. Thus it is within Waddington s diction choices about the actions of Penelope, not
Ulysses, that her stanzas most reflect the gallant rhetoric akin to Tennyson s work. From when her
stitches embroider the painful colors of her breath, to her creation of Ulysses as a medallion
emblazoned in tapestry, Penelope s labors in the creation and retelling of her husband constitute the
most powerful language in the work (Waddington 37 40, 30 32). Here, the facade of her blind hands
falls away to reveal the true potency of Penelope s situation as creator and overseer.
This very idea of blindness used by Tennyson and Homer s speakers to disregard Penelope as old,
naive to truth, and inane for her endless and fruitless weaving is notably alluded to twice

The Cultures That Exist Inside Coffee Shops
Introduction
I will be looking at the cultures that exist inside coffee shops. In particular, I will be contrasting the
culture that exists within chain coffee shops, such as Starbucks, with those present in smaller
independently owned shops. When getting coffee, I usually go to Starbucks because it is convenient.
However, I know a few individuals who would rather support small locally owned shops.
Additionally, whenever I have actually gone to an independently owned shop, I never actually stayed
in the shop while drinking. Therefore, I thought it would be an interesting experience to spend time in
both a chain shop and an independent shop.
When I envision the type of people who frequent independent shops, quirky is the word that comes to

They may be more likely to be willing to sit in closer proximity to each other than patrons in

deviate from that plan than individuals in the local shop. Therefore, they may be less receptive to
unexpected social interaction. In both establishments, I will be paying close attention to the social
behaviors of the customers.
Cultural Background Research
Throughout history, coffee has played an important role in cultures all around the world. The café
society, which developed in England and France between 1680 and 1730, served as cultural exchange
by bringing together poets, musicians and artists (Lyons, 2005). To this day, writers and graphic
designers can be seen working in coffee shops across the county. Additionally, coffee shops have long
been considered a place for intellectual and political discussion ( Blank Vooren, 2007). Therefore, it
should not come as a surprise that during the specialty coffee boom of the 1970 s, company s like
Starbuck s began to expand into neighborhoods close to museums, colleges, and art galleries ( Lyons,
2005). In short, coffee shops have a long history of attracting intellectual and creative individuals.
Coffee shops fall into the category of third places . These are places that people go to escape the

Falls Prevention Within The Older Adult Over The Age Of 55...
The paper will discuss falls prevention in the older adult over the age of 55 and new and alternative
interventions for fall prevention compared to current practice. The desired outcome of the paper is to
provide information for fall prevention and, therefore, decrease the occurrence of falls. First, in order
to understand the importance falls have within the clinical setting, statistics showing the mortality,
morbidity and financial impact should be understood. The occurrence of falls within the acute care
setting is a growing problem among the elderly. The evidence shows that one in three people aged 65
or older will sustain a fall and that only half will report the fall to a caregiver (CDC, 2014). The
number increases to one in two when the patient reaches the age of 80. The Center for Disease Control
(CDC) defines a fall when a person unintentionally comes to rest on the ground or another lower level.
Falls are not an inevitable part of aging, however, aging does influence such things as reduced
mobility, comorbidities, and cognitive impairment which contribute to fall risk. Falls are one of the
leading causes of injuries in the acute care setting. The injuries sustained from falls leads to increased
hospital stay time and a chance for further injuries which may harm the patient (CDC, 2014).
According to the CDC in 2013, 2.5 million people suffered a fall, of these falls 734,000 were
hospitalized. The falls also resulted in 22,900 people dying from fall

Analysis Of The Fountain Of Vaucluse
On September 26, 2017 I visited the Dallas Museum of Art where I saw The Fountain of Vaucluse by
Thomas Cole. The oil on canvas painting, displays a rocky landscape which captures the beauty of
nature and civilization while also provoking thought in the viewer. An individual s nature to hope for
something better than the current discomfort he or she is experiencing is portrayed through Cole s use
of color and environmental contrast in this piece. The work is very smooth and fluid making it appear
much like a photograph. The oil is not built up on top of itself keeping it very two dimensional. The
colors vary between dark and light throughout the painting. In the top right corner, the sun, outside the
painting, shining down, aluminates the castle and also the lone tree at the bottom left corner. Besides
the back cliff, the rest of the painting is in shadow and displayed in a much more melancholy tone.
The colors that Cole focuses on, to display the sharp contrast between rock and nature, are mostly dark
greens and gold. The striking blue of the river stands out dramatically from the rest of the colors and
draws the eye after the initial citing. The grey in the cloud is the only place where I can find that shade
of gray in the work, and it sets itself apart from the snow white clouds in the background. The color
helps draw the eye immediately to the castle on the hill. My eyes then fallow the flow of the river
down to the tree, which is illuminated by a beam of sunlight.

The Importance Of Intelligence And Organizational Leadership
Introduction
Cybercriminals have been increasingly engaging in online attacks exploiting organization s
vulnerabilities and deficiencies (Bhattacharya, 2011). Among the organizational factors that are
necessary to combat cybercrime and other problems related to information security, leadership is one
of the most important (Bhattacharya, 2011; Kwon, et al., 2013). Indeed, not only does effective
leadership enable the organization to appropriately defend itself against, and respond to, cybercrime
through the appropriate use of information security strategies, an excellent leader also ensures
regulatory compliance and the development of an effective monitoring plan to reduce information
security risks (Kwon, et al., 2013). At the other end of the spectrum, ineffective leadership leads to
passive or reactive measures against cybercrime that, in turn, can place the organization at risk of
information security related damage and losses (Gupta and Hammond, 2005).
This mini proposal presents a body of research that will make a contribution to emotional intelligence
and organizational leadership in the information security age. It presents the steps taken to select the
participants, how the data will be analyzed into themes. The mini proposal will also present methods,
techniques and the tasks are used to capture the data. It also discusses a series of studies that provide
an empirical evaluation of particular cybercrime events, and uses the experimental results to begin

Examples Of Materialism In Affluenza
Materialism is simply considering material possessions and physical comfort more important than
other actual values. For example, people could find buying themselves things more important than
caring for someone. In the documentary, Affluenza, meaning having feelings of guilt and isolation
(usually wealthy people), they give many examples of materialism. They give examples of young kids
being more interested in name brand clothing because they are afraid they will get made fun of.
During the film, they showed a part where they were asking young adults (teens) what brands they
were wearing and what they had just bought from the mall. Children as well as adults see a shopping
center as just a natural destination to fill a bored life.

The media helps to show everyone what is going on, what to wear, buy, etc. Instagram is a good
example because any company or even celebrity can put anything up and their followers will want to
know what is the next big thing. Kylie Jenner in particular makes this true. Everyone wants to be like
her, how she looks and what she wears. On her social media, she is able to post what she eats and what
she is doing. Usually, I always see people trying to follow in her steps. It has gotten to the point where
they try so hard to be her look a like that it even confuses people of the public.
Even who you vote for can be affected by these situations. Social media in particular touches this
topic. The media allows for others to see what is going on, other people s opinions. With this recent
presidential election, people have been going back and forth with unnecessary commentary. From
calling each other stupid for who they chose to vote for to a smaller form of rioting. In recent events,
Donald Trump won and it has affected a lot of people. Him winning has started a lot of negative
situations. The ones who voted for Hillary are starting strikes, dissing the Trump voters to the

Disadvantages Of Occupational Information
An occupational information data base of occupational information help individuals identifies with
specific skills, tasks, and occupations that are available. Individuals have the opportunity to explore
employment opportunities that are suitable to the skills they possess. In addition, it inform individuals
of the necessary skills they may need to attain, improve for a specific job and notify the level of
education needed to seek employment. Advantages of the data base allows the individual to become
more actively involved in the career guidance process (Zunker, 2012, p.180). Individuals will have the
opportunity to seek more information, receive adequate feedback immediately, and can access the data
base anywhere at any given time. Also, it offer support to individuals when trying to decide on a
career. The data base serve as a tool for innovative learning delivery systems that should help workers
develop skills and increase and broaden general and industry specific knowledge (Zunker, 2012, p.
177). However there are some disadvantages in occupational information sources that can limit an
individual from becoming fully aware of their possible opportunities for future employment. This may
include but are not limited to both ethical or legal concerns about sufficient security measures and
individuals solely relying on the computer assisted career guidance system. The O NET, Monster, and

Abuse Of Power In Game Of Thrones
This episode did not disappoint sleazy scheming, sibling in fighting, death by burning, and the ever

society is amazing, but these fine folks are sticking with the classics in this season s opener: misuse of
position and Crown resources.
Cersei gets her abuse on early. Like way early, as in 20 years ago early. GoT gets its first flashback

Francisco Goya Essay
Francisco Goya s The Third of May1808: Principles of Art Design
Great insights went into the intricate composition of Francisco Goya s painting The Third of May
1808, his painting utilizes the principles of art and design which displays all six principles: unity and
variety; emphasis; balance; rhythm and movement; perspective; and proportion and scale. All six
principles could also be identified and critically analyzed within his painting The Third of May 1808
which ultimately resulted in a whole cohesive composition.
Goya s use of the principle of art design, unity is evident as the shapes and sizes he painted in The
Third of May 1808 are easily recognizable when looking at the prisoners and soldiers, the viewer can
notice that all the human bodies represent mass equally in the painting. Unity is defined as a method
of organizing artwork to bring all the parts together to make one integrated whole by repeating
elements in it. Furthermore he adds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emphasis is exemplified by Goya when he painted a horizontal line to represent death. Convergence is
when many elements point to one thing, again this is exemplified when he painted the riffles
horizontally pointing at one of the prisoners brightly painted in yellow. Moreover it focuses the
attention of the viewer to that one prisoner painted brighter than the others and is easily notice when
the painting is first viewed.
Goya integrates the design principle balance in The Third of May 1808 when he utilizes informal
balance and is evident when he painted the soldiers and building on the right of the painting and
prisoners and hill on the left side of the painting which created a balanced visual weighted artwork
Informal Balance is defined as the elements of art and design used to create the same comfortable

The Strait Of Hormuz Should Be Completely International...
In the past and present people and goods have and continue to move around the world. Trade has been

militaries and aid groups create peace in regions. The Strait of Hormuz is different than the Panama

important and a vital military strategic point.

Throughout the Strait, its width and depth changes. At different points in the Strait, the width varies
from twenty one to fifty two nautical miles (thirty three to ninety six kilometers) (globalsecurity). The
lowest depth is twenty seven fathoms (fifty meters). Due to the shallow depth of the Strait, oil tankers
and cargo ships can only use certain paths to sail through the Strait. Ships can only sail in a ten
nautical mile wide section at the narrowest point ( Strait of Hormuz , Briney). These factors limit the
number of shipping lanes, which then limits the number of ships able to pass each day.
In the past thousand years, several empires have controlled the Strait. The ancient Greeks and later the
Persian Empire used the Strait to conquer the modern day Gulf Region. The island of Hormoz, which
is controlled today by Iran, was the capital of the Kingdom of Hormuz from the fourteenth to late
sixteenth century. The name Hormuz is derived from the Persian God Hormoz. In the early
seventeenth century the Portuguese took control of the Kingdom of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz
was named after the city Hormuz on the island of Hormoz (heritageinstitute).
During the different reigns of power, many different supplies, tools, and resources were traded through
the Strait. The Persians and ancient Greeks brought stone and styles of architecture that shaped the
later Kingdom of Hormuz. Traders from India and China

The Contribution of Texas in WWI
Texas contribution during WW II
When Japan attacked the US naval base at Pearl Harbor on the 7th day of December 1941, this marked
the beginning of WWII since the USA was heeded for a revenge mission soon after that and indeed on
the following day, the USA declared war against Japan. Soon countries were taking sides and
alignments were formed in anticipation of the impending war. The entire USA was called upon to
volunteer to the war and Texas was not left behind. Before the commencement of the war, Texas was
predominantly a quiet place with frontier traditions and rural life dominating the state. The life of the
Texans was predominantly within their ranches and farms and never ventured far off their local
ranches with farming being the predominate activity. Texas Historical Commission (2012) indicates
that even though Texans were only 5% of the total USA population, they accounted for at least 7% of
the response to the call for volunteers into the WWII. Texas was not only affected at the societal level
and the economy but there was a shift in the landscape. The fact that there were expansive land and a
moderate temperature in Texas made it a preferred ground for trainings. There were more than 75
major military installments across Texas with 65 of them being Army fields, 35 of them being Army
forts and camps 7 of them being naval bases. It is noted that there were also 60 branch prisoner of war
camps. Socially the war also cost Texans a great deal since more

Reaction Time Lab
In this lab, the team concluded that being distracted with an activity that diverts optical attention away
from the focal point, such as texting, significantly increases reaction time. The other distractors,
including listening to music and talking on a cell phone, had effectively no impact on reaction time in
comparison to having no distraction.
In order convert the distance the meter stick fell into the given unit of time (seconds or hours), the
time equation shown in the sample calculation was used. This equation directly found the reaction
time in seconds, which allowed the team to calculate the reaction time in hours. Dimensional analysis
was used to convert seconds to hours, which resulted in extraordinarily small quantities that warranted
the use of scientific notation.
From there, the team had to determine in each case how far a car traveling at 60 miles per hour would
travel before brakes would be applied. To do this, the team used the equation v=d/t to find distance,
and thus rewriting it as d=vt. This equation determined the distance in miles, prompting the team to
again use dimensional analysis to find the distance in feet.
The data that was tested without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

you would travel a whopping 38.01ft before applying the breaks (at 60mph), which is much longer
than the 12.03ft you would travel without distraction. Using that data, it was concluded that the only
distractor that had a substantial effect on reaction time was

Essay On Dissection In Schools
Dissection in High Schools Dissection has become more and more prevalent in high schools in the last
50 years, so much that it has been estimated that about 75% of pre college level biology classes have
them. Many organizations like PETA and animal humane societies have been bashing dissection
because it can be considered animal cruelty. Studies have shown that dissections have provided a
hands on, authentic approach to understanding anatomy and physiology, but when you consider the
ethics behind dissection, it totally changes the game. I believe that dissections in high school do help
students understand Anatomy and Physiology, but are unethical. Dissections in high schools are
considered unethical based off of their distributors/sources of the cadavers, alternatives to animal
dissection, and how it tells students that it s okay to abuse helpless animals. While people like to

PETA believes that dissection can even dissuade some people from pursuing careers in science. Many
animal rights groups think that classroom dissection desensitizes students to the sanctity of life.
Reports from MLive (a Michigan broadcast network) show that serial killer Jeffery Dahmer dissected
a frog when he was younger and then went to a dog and then became an infamous serial killer. Now, I
m not saying that since we are dissecting a cat we will become serial killers, but it shows that someone
thought it was okay to treat other beings like so because they were told it was okay to do in school.
Students who plan to go into the medical field would do better with human cadavers or any of the non
animal methods. This would more accurately reflect what they would encounter in medical school,
since according to CNN, more than 90 percent of US medical schools have abandoned animal

Poets of the Tang Dynasty Essay
Throughout human history, our beliefs have influenced our actions. This is why we have studies like
the humanities. During the Tang Dynasty, different religions developing during the time had enormous
influence on what was being produced during the era. When it comes to literature, poets like Wang

While it was not always directly mentioned in their poetry, there are connections between the Tang
Dynasty poets works and their respective religions. Wang Wei (699 761CE), was a Buddhist poet that

Tang Dynasty was by means of a legendary monk: Xuanzang. He traveled to India, while the city of
Chang an suffered from chaos, to study the original Buddhist scripts and later returned to China to
translate all of them and interpret the ideas for the people through his Weishi School (Wen, 77). The
concept of emptiness is very prominent in Buddhism emptiness is neither reality nor total nothingness.
Thus, being and nothingness only differ in name; the ontological statuses of both are emptiness (76).
In Wei s poem, Hermitage at Chung nan Mountain he writes: ...and go there on a whim to wander
alone. But even in all this splendor, things remain empty. I climb to the headwaters where clouds rise
up from emptiness (Davis et al. 1170). The emptiness to which he is referring is not literal emptiness,
but to the underlying unity of all things. Also, the Chung nan Mountain that he refers to was a part of
the well known mountains that draw many followers of Taoism and Buddhism because of their
solitude. When he says Growing older, I grow into the Tao... he is referring to the way of life that can
be achieved by following Buddhist traditions. The poet Li Bai (701 762CE) was

Communication Patterns of Children During Conflict Essay...
As we grow up, we are socialized into the proper norms to be successful in society. The socialization
process starts right from birth. Babies observe and try to mimic their parents and eventually their
siblings or peers. Conflict is a part of life that children need to use to develop skills on resolving
disagreements; conflict is not always bad. Peer conflict, however, can lead to aggressive behavior
because of significant emotional and physical harm. Many youth lack the social skills needed to
handle their aggravation.
Peer conflict communicates joint disagreement or aggression between peers or peer groups. Peer

Adults mediate children s interaction and in doing so adults need to learn the necessary tools to
helping our children handle conflict. In school and at home, it is important to help develop social
skills. Skills such as building friendships, emotional regulation, problem solving, and being supportive
are best learned at an elementary school age. Children are taught what is socially acceptable through
reward and consequence. Once children reach adolescents age, it is best to teach conflict resolution
techniques. By implementing peer mediation, the children learn how to recognize a conflict and learn
how to resolve a conflict on their own. At the middle and high school age level, it is also important to
practice respectful and positive behaviors. At this age adolescents are going through hormonal
changes and if adults focus on practicing positive respectful behaviors the habits will form and the
child will have the natural skills to interact at an adult level.
Focusing on the individual, factors of peer conflict like problem solving, self regulation, and language
are linked with youth who engage in aggressive behaviors toward their peers. The International
Journal of Language Communication Disorders, Interaction Before Conflict and Conflict Resolution
in Pre School Boys with Language Impairment, addresses the factors associated with peer conflict.

The output is based on a function, usually a step function or sigmoid function (basically a rounded or

allows it to be used as a logic function. For this case the neuron should fire for only one
letter/character (and an interfered equivalent) and for all other possible cases it should not fire. The
strength of a neural network is that it can learn or be taught a pattern and recognise this pattern. From
this it should be able to make decisions for cases it has not seen before. There are many methods for

The NIST, in cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), establish performance goals that should be met to enhance cybersecurity (The White House, 2013). Because compliance is voluntary, the standards set by the NIST came from industry best practices to appease private operators and ensure that the cybersecurity of the nation s critical infrastructure was improved through compliance. SCADA Systems are pervasive throughout our nation s critical infrastructures which govern many aspects of the population s daily life. Travel, the movement of goods, essential utilities and basic life sustainment necessities are all dependent on properly functioning SCADA Systems. Executive order 13636 ensures that SCADA systems are integrated with and function in conjunction with other devices that report real time health of operations. Should these systems be compromised, national security would be placed at risk. An example of vulnerable infrastructure are Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSATs) which are used for remote transmission of credit card transactions, and the transfer of data from SCADA systems to government classified systems (Storm, 2015). • 3. The Red Convertible By Louise Erdrich In the short story The Red Convertible, by Louise Erdrich, there are multiple literary devices used throughout. However, Erdrich most commonly utilizes theme and symbolism. She uses certain themes throughout most of her work, as noted by Keri L. Overall in a literary analysis. Indeed, the themes of Erdrich s stories range from the effects of war on families and personal identity to loss of heritage and family and personal relationships. Erdrich also employs the use of symbolism in this story, to great effect. Furthermore, the two most important themes in this story are Brotherhood and War time trauma, while the most important symbol is the red convertible. The first theme that is prevalent throughout the story is Brotherhood. The focus of The Red Convertible is the relationship between Henry and Lyman. Lyman tells this story in order to honor his brother s memory. Erdrich s piece is told from Lyman s point of view, so the reader does not know Henry s motivations or thoughts. However, his behavior shows that he loved his brother dearly, and held their relationship in high regard. When Henry was preparing to depart for Vietnam, he chose to give Lyman the car that had been a vessel of happiness for them both. One can deduce from this action that Henry did not know if he would survive the war. After Henry came back from Vietnam, he was a polar opposite of the man he used to be. When Lyman damaged the car so that Henry would have to fix it, he understood what Lyman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Growth of craft brewed beer market The craft brewing segment of the beer industry has experience fluctuations in demand from a high of 58% growth in 1995 to a decline of 5% annually from 1997 to 2003 (Gilinksy et al., 2014, p. C 92). However, it is now experiencing rapid growth. At the commencement of 2012, 6.5% of U.S. beer sales were generated by craft brewers and that number increased by 15% by the conclusion of the year (Gilinksy et al., 2014, p. C 92). The growth of the market presents LBC with an opportunity to generate additional revenue. 2. Utilize additional forms of marketing Word of mouth and quality products are the basis of Lagunitas Brewing Company s marketing approach (Gilinksy et al., 2014, p. C 99). The company also sponsors touring bands by providing beer and gasoline and donates its beer to festivals and events primarily involving music (Gilinksy et al., 2014, p. C 97 99). However, it does not employ traditional marketing, minimal pricing incentives, and push marketing techniques (Gilinksy et al., 2014, p. C 99). While the company had revenue growth of 46% in 2010 and 60% in the first two quarters of 2011 using this strategy, other marketing techniques such as advertising or digital marketing for example, can provide LBC the opportunity to increase brand awareness. In the case of digital marketing, the company has the prospect of reaching more Millennials as they are avid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Comparing Why The Geese Shrieked And Yentl The Yeshiva Boy Nobody ever said life is easy. In fact, it s really about proving you can face challenges. This is evident in Isaac Bashevis Singer s short stories Why the Geese Shrieked and Yentl the Yeshiva Boy . Although The Mother, Yentl, and Hadass, the female characters of these stories, live in different places during different times, they all face challenges of gender. The situations that these characters encounter are quite different, at least on the outside. Mother is a rationalist and the wife of a mystic rabbi. She suggests that there must be a logical explanation for this sound because slaughtered geese don t shriek but her husband thinks there must be some supernatural explanation as to why they are making this noise. As a woman, Mother cannot outwardly express her disbelief that the reason for these shrieking geese is some sort of mystical source without the permission of her husband. In contrast, Yentl, the main character of Yentl the Yeshiva Boy, is in love with learning but is forbidden to do so by Jewish law. She has chosen to disguise her ... She reaches her hand in the geese s body and pulls out the windpipe, performing an experiment to show that this is why the geese were shrieking. She discovered the mystery behind the shrieking geese, helped a neighbor, and nicely proved that there must be a logical explanation for unusual events in the world. Yentl, too, confronts her problem. She acknowledges that [she] wasn t created for plucking feathers and chattering with females and therefore does something about it. She uses her disguised appearance and mannerisms as a way of continuing her studies and cooping with her struggle of gender identity. She knows she will live out [her] time as [she] ... If I had contracted it there I could easily have returned to America with it inside me without being aware of it. This is the only known way that the disease still enters the country. Malaria s age speaks of an adaptability to it, when comparing a sample from ancient China to one today there are huge differences to be seen. This indicates that Malaria has a large past that there is very little known about. Possibly the answer to the ideal treatment lives in its past. By looking at the past it is possible to see how to form the future. Anatomy Physiology Malaria enters the bloodstream with the bite of an infected mosquito it is called a sporocyte. It then travels to the liver where it rapidly multiplies which is called exo erythrocytic replication (malaria.com). From there it travels again into the bloodstream. Merozoites infect red blood cells and continue to replicate there, this bursts the cell. The bursting of the cell spreads the infection and causes many of the symptoms of Malaria. Competition in the Golf Industry An Analysis of Competition in the Golf Industry It is unknown when the game of golf originated, but it is believed that people began playing in Europe during the middle ages. In the United States, golf was a sport primarily played by the wealthy individuals until tournaments began being televised. Since then, golf has grown to be a very lucrative industry with over 27 million golfers nationwide by the end of the 1990 s. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The state of the current economy paired with the decline in the number of golfers, has caused companies to focus more on price and volume. Counterfeiting is largely attributable to the decisions by executives to outsource for cheaper labor to manufacturers in China; who can produce a golf club for less than $3 per club. Recommendations Companies currently operating within the golf industry, specifically Calloway Golf, must change their current marketing approaches and strategies to withstand the recession and threats facing the industry. Although Calloway has a strong R D department that tends to remain competitive with products and technology, there have been little results in reference to scores. It is imperative that if companies are going to market a product that will help golfers drive further and straighter that the results depict this so that not to damage the brand name of a product. Secondly, due to the decline in equipment sales and the number of golfers, prices are dropping and companies are outsourcing to maintain the volume needed to remain competitive. Companies must be cautious and aware so that counterfeiting may be reduced. This reduction would also allow companies to reduce their pricing and have more sales without the competition of these cheaply priced knock offs. In the instance of ... Relationship Between T Cell Regulation And Type I Diabetes Abstract The purpose of this study is to explore the relationships and mechanisms between T cell regulation and type I diabetes by using NOD mice model. NOD mice can spontaneously develop a form of autoimmune diabetes which is similar to human Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus. T cells can destroy beta cells of the pancreatic islets which can produce insulin. Thus, by analyzing the development of NOD mice autoimmune diabetes to determine potential treatment for type I diabetes. Introduction Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases. There are different kinds of diabetes mellitus, but an abnormal blood sugar level over an extended time always can be detected from patients who have this disease. Type one diabetes mellitus also known as insulin dependent diabetes, patients with this type of diabetes have pancreatic beta cells destruction causing absolute lack of insulin with a tendency to ketoacidosis. It can occur at any age, but more commonly occurs in young people. Patients with acute onset of metabolic disorders symptoms need insulin injections to survive. Mattel is also a leading brand company that researches and develops new toys and then buys or license them from inventors. But what exactly are they doing to convince us consumers to buy their products? For the past decades now, Barbie dolls mainly created by Mattel have grown tremendously and have made a huge impact to children s lives. Kids are influenced by what they see on television and therefore automatically drawn to imitate whatever characters they seem to be interesting. Their characters, dressing, and responsibility influence young children to change dramatically. Odysseus uses his intelligence throughout his journeys to further develop his courage allowing him to be resilient in the time of crisis arguing he is a hero. Odysseus uses intelligence to guide him on his tricky journey home to Ithaca establishing that he is a hero. When Odysseus and his crew land on the land of the Cyclops, they get trapped in a cave with a human eating Cyclops named Polyphemus. Polyphemus turns hostile and becomes a serious threat to Odysseus and his crews chance of returning home. Odysseus uses his intelligence to get out of the disastrous situation by getting the Cyclops drunk and then blinding Polyphemus by using a stake with its fiery tip (Homer 9.443) and thrusting it into the single eye on the Cyclops. Odysseus keen sense of intelligence allows him to predict that Polyphemus would try to get help from his Cyclops neighbors so he plans ahead telling Polyphemus, Nobody that s my name. Nobody so my mother and father call me, all my friends (Homer 9.410 411). William Tennyson s Ulysses And The Tradition Of The Odyssey After centuries of serving background noise to her husband Ulysses odes of sea storms, sirens, and celebrity, the mythological Penelope finally steps into the light in Miriam Waddington s poetic work Ulysses Embroidered. Functioning as a revisionary text to both the Alfred, Lord Tennyson work Ulysses and the tradition of The Odyssey itself, Ulysses Embroidered quickly strikes its readers as a fiercely feminist re envisioning of Penelope and the story she offers up. This transfer of the power of voice plays out similarly within Waddington s diction choices as pitched against those of Tennyson. While Tennyson brings to great detail the admirable bravado and intimate victories of Ulysses journeys, the same marvels are expressed differently through Waddington s perspective. These events are mentioned, but by listing in passing, not in Ulysses terms of conquest and action. While Ulysses takes the place of a passive character and only performs an action in his coming home and climbing the stairs, Penelope fills the seat of the active rescuer and change maker (25). She truly has a chance to describe him like Tennyson s speaker offhandedly refers to her and to do so in new terms. Thus it is within Waddington s diction choices about the actions of Penelope, not Ulysses, that her stanzas most reflect the gallant rhetoric akin to Tennyson s work. From when her stitches embroider the painful colors of her breath, to her creation of Ulysses as a medallion emblazoned in tapestry, Penelope s labors in the creation and retelling of her husband constitute the most powerful language in the work (Waddington 37 40, 30 32). Here, the facade of her blind hands falls away to reveal the true potency of Penelope s situation as creator and overseer. This very idea of blindness used by Tennyson and Homer s speakers to disregard Penelope as old, naive to truth, and inane for her endless and fruitless weaving is notably alluded to twice ... The paper will discuss falls prevention in the older adult over the age of 55 and new and alternative interventions for fall prevention compared to current practice. The desired outcome of the paper is to provide information for fall prevention and, therefore, decrease the occurrence of falls. First, in order to understand the importance falls have within the clinical setting, statistics showing the mortality, morbidity and financial impact should be understood. The occurrence of falls within the acute care setting is a growing problem among the elderly. The evidence shows that one in three people aged 65 or older will sustain a fall and that only half will report the fall to a caregiver (CDC, 2014). The number increases to one in two when the patient reaches the age of 80. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) defines a fall when a person unintentionally comes to rest on the ground or another lower level. Falls are not an inevitable part of aging, however, aging does influence such things as reduced mobility, comorbidities, and cognitive impairment which contribute to fall risk. Falls are one of the leading causes of injuries in the acute care setting. The injuries sustained from falls leads to increased hospital stay time and a chance for further injuries which may harm the patient (CDC, 2014). The oil on canvas painting, displays a rocky landscape which captures the beauty of nature and civilization while also provoking thought in the viewer. An individual s nature to hope for something better than the current discomfort he or she is experiencing is portrayed through Cole s use of color and environmental contrast in this piece. The work is very smooth and fluid making it appear much like a photograph. The oil is not built up on top of itself keeping it very two dimensional. The colors vary between dark and light throughout the painting. In the top right corner, the sun, outside the painting, shining down, aluminates the castle and also the lone tree at the bottom left corner. Besides the back cliff, the rest of the painting is in shadow and displayed in a much more melancholy tone. The colors that Cole focuses on, to display the sharp contrast between rock and nature, are mostly dark greens and gold. The striking blue of the river stands out dramatically from the rest of the colors and draws the eye after the initial citing. The grey in the cloud is the only place where I can find that shade of gray in the work, and it sets itself apart from the snow white clouds in the background. The color helps draw the eye immediately to the castle on the hill. My eyes then fallow the flow of the river down to the tree, which is illuminated by a beam of sunlight. ... • 22. The Importance Of Intelligence And Organizational Leadership Introduction Cybercriminals have been increasingly engaging in online attacks exploiting organization s vulnerabilities and deficiencies (Bhattacharya, 2011). Among the organizational factors that are necessary to combat cybercrime and other problems related to information security, leadership is one of the most important (Bhattacharya, 2011; Kwon, et al., 2013). Indeed, not only does effective leadership enable the organization to appropriately defend itself against, and respond to, cybercrime through the appropriate use of information security strategies, an excellent leader also ensures regulatory compliance and the development of an effective monitoring plan to reduce information security risks (Kwon, et al., 2013). At the other end of the spectrum, ineffective leadership leads to passive or reactive measures against cybercrime that, in turn, can place the organization at risk of information security related damage and losses (Gupta and Hammond, 2005). Francisco Goya Essay Francisco Goya s The Third of May1808: Principles of Art Design Great insights went into the intricate composition of Francisco Goya s painting The Third of May 1808, his painting utilizes the principles of art and design which displays all six principles: unity and variety; emphasis; balance; rhythm and movement; perspective; and proportion and scale. All six principles could also be identified and critically analyzed within his painting The Third of May 1808 which ultimately resulted in a whole cohesive composition. Goya s use of the principle of art design, unity is evident as the shapes and sizes he painted in The Third of May 1808 are easily recognizable when looking at the prisoners and soldiers, the viewer can notice that all the human bodies represent mass equally in the painting. • 28. The Contribution of Texas in WWI Texas contribution during WW II When Japan attacked the US naval base at Pearl Harbor on the 7th day of December 1941, this marked the beginning of WWII since the USA was heeded for a revenge mission soon after that and indeed on the following day, the USA declared war against Japan. Soon countries were taking sides and alignments were formed in anticipation of the impending war. The entire USA was called upon to volunteer to the war and Texas was not left behind. Before the commencement of the war, Texas was predominantly a quiet place with frontier traditions and rural life dominating the state. The life of the Texans was predominantly within their ranches and farms and never ventured far off their local ranches with farming being the predominate activity. Texas Historical Commission (2012) indicates that even though Texans were only 5% of the total USA population, they accounted for at least 7% of the response to the call for volunteers into the WWII. Texas was not only affected at the societal level and the economy but there was a shift in the landscape. The fact that there were expansive land and a moderate temperature in Texas made it a preferred ground for trainings. There were more than 75 major military installments across Texas with 65 of them being Army fields, 35 of them being Army forts and camps 7 of them being naval bases. It is noted that there were also 60 branch prisoner of war camps. Socially the war also cost Texans a great deal since more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reaction Time Lab In this lab, the team concluded that being distracted with an activity that diverts optical attention away from the focal point, such as texting, significantly increases reaction time. The other distractors, including listening to music and talking on a cell phone, had effectively no impact on reaction time in comparison to having no distraction. In order convert the distance the meter stick fell into the given unit of time (seconds or hours), the time equation shown in the sample calculation was used. This equation directly found the reaction time in seconds, which allowed the team to calculate the reaction time in hours. Dimensional analysis was used to convert seconds to hours, which resulted in extraordinarily small quantities that warranted the use of scientific notation. From there, the team had to determine in each case how far a car traveling at 60 miles per hour would travel before brakes would be applied. To do this, the team used the equation v=d/t to find distance, and thus rewriting it as d=vt. This equation determined the distance in miles, prompting the team to again use dimensional analysis to find the distance in feet. The data that was tested without ... Texting, however, left both partners completely incapable of catching the meter stick at all, which only begins to demonstrate the danger of texting while driving. In a real world situation, you would travel a whopping 38.01ft before applying the breaks (at 60mph), which is much longer than the 12.03ft you would travel without distraction. • 30. Essay On Dissection In Schools Dissection in High Schools Dissection has become more and more prevalent in high schools in the last 50 years, so much that it has been estimated that about 75% of pre college level biology classes have them. Many organizations like PETA and animal humane societies have been bashing dissection because it can be considered animal cruelty. Studies have shown that dissections have provided a hands on, authentic approach to understanding anatomy and physiology, but when you consider the ethics behind dissection, it totally changes the game. I believe that dissections in high school do help students understand Anatomy and Physiology, but are unethical. Dissections in high schools are considered unethical based off of their distributors/sources of the cadavers, alternatives to animal dissection, and how it tells students that it s okay to abuse helpless animals. PETA believes that dissection can even dissuade some people from pursuing careers in science. Many animal rights groups think that classroom dissection desensitizes students to the sanctity of life. Reports from MLive (a Michigan broadcast network) show that serial killer Jeffery Dahmer dissected a frog when he was younger and then went to a dog and then became an infamous serial killer. Now, I m not saying that since we are dissecting a cat we will become serial killers, but it shows that someone thought it was okay to treat other beings like so because they were told it was okay to do in school. Students who plan to go into the medical field would do better with human cadavers or any of the non animal methods. This would more accurately reflect what they would encounter in medical school, since according to CNN, more than 90 percent of US medical schools have abandoned animal dissection in their ... During the Tang Dynasty, different religions developing during the time had enormous influence on what was being produced during the era. When it comes to literature, poets like Wang Wei, Li Bai, Du Fu, and Bo Juyi expressed their religions through their poetry during the Tang era. While it was not always directly mentioned in their poetry, there are connections between the Tang Dynasty poets works and their respective religions. He traveled to India, while the city of Chang an suffered from chaos, to study the original Buddhist scripts and later returned to China to translate all of them and interpret the ideas for the people through his Weishi School (Wen, 77). The concept of emptiness is very prominent in Buddhism emptiness is neither reality nor total nothingness. Thus, being and nothingness only differ in name; the ontological statuses of both are emptiness (76). In Wei s poem, Hermitage at Chung nan Mountain he writes: ...and go there on a whim to wander alone. But even in all this splendor, things remain empty. I climb to the headwaters where clouds rise up from emptiness (Davis et al. 1170). The emptiness to which he is referring is not literal emptiness, but to the underlying unity of all things. Also, the Chung nan Mountain that he refers to was a part of the well known mountains that draw many followers of Taoism and Buddhism because of their solitude. The socialization process starts right from birth. Babies observe and try to mimic their parents and eventually their siblings or peers. Conflict is a part of life that children need to use to develop skills on resolving disagreements; conflict is not always bad. Peer conflict, however, can lead to aggressive behavior because of significant emotional and physical harm. Many youth lack the social skills needed to handle their aggravation. In school and at home, it is important to help develop social skills. Skills such as building friendships, emotional regulation, problem solving, and being supportive are best learned at an elementary school age. Children are taught what is socially acceptable through reward and consequence. Once children reach adolescents age, it is best to teach conflict resolution techniques. By implementing peer mediation, the children learn how to recognize a conflict and learn how to resolve a conflict on their own. At the middle and high school age level, it is also important to practice respectful and positive behaviors. At this age adolescents are going through hormonal changes and if adults focus on practicing positive respectful behaviors the habits will form and the child will have the natural skills to interact at an adult level. Focusing on the individual, factors of peer conflict like problem solving, self regulation, and language are linked with youth who engage in aggressive behaviors toward their peers. The International Journal of Language Communication Disorders, Interaction Before Conflict and Conflict Resolution in Pre School Boys with Language Impairment, addresses the factors associated with peer conflict. The neuron should output a 0 until it fires when it should output a 1. This allows it to be used as a logic function. For this case the neuron should fire for only one letter/character (and an interfered equivalent) and for all other possible cases it should not fire. The strength of a neural network is that it can learn or be taught a pattern and recognise this pattern. From this it should be able to make decisions for cases it has not seen before. There are many methods for teaching a neuron, most relying on derivation to find the slope of the so called weight space (some rely on brute force, but these are seldom used). The basic Gradient Decent rule acts on the slope of the weight space and will be used for this report. Method Teaching The code was written in m code and implemented by MathWorks Matlab R2011a. The artificial neuron is taught by manipulating the values of the elements in the weight matrix (W in the code) until the error in the output matrix (from the dot product of the teaching set (X) and W) is lower than a set number (0.005). This is achieved with a while loop. Within the while loop is another while loop which loops another error checking loop though each of the vectors of the X matrix.
