Rivalry Of Harley Davidson
Harley Davidson/Indian Rivalry
Did Indian sue Harley Davidson in the mid 1900 s and why or was it just a rumor?
Indian did sue Harley Davidson in the mid 1900 s because Indian saw that on Harleys new
model was a carburetor of his design and Indian accused Harley of plagiarizing their design of a
the carburetor so Indian sued them for steeling their carburetor design. In court Harley won because

In 1901 William S. Harley finishes a blueprint design of an motor designed that will fit into a bike.
In 1903 Harley and Arthur Davidson made available to the public the first production of a Harley

Essay on Memento
Memento
Memento is a movie directed by Chris Nolan. It was released in 2000. The leading actor is Guy
Pearce. Carrie Anne Moss and Joe Pantoliano are also in this movie. Memento is a perplexed thriller.
Leonard, the main character, is excellently played by Guy Pierce. He is constantly confused, yet
still acts in a nonchalant way. Teddy (Pantoliano) and Natalie (CarrieAnne Moss) play puzzling
characters, throughout the whole movie the viewer questions, whether they may or may not be
Leonard s friends.
The characters are not conform the general image of Americans, but that has a lot to do with the
fact the audience does not know whether they should trust Leonard s story or Leonard s friends.
Teddy does not look like an ordinary cop, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He lives his life by taking notes and Polaroid pictures, the facts he records in tattoo form all over
his body. Every time he loses his concentration it s as if he has just woken up, he is constantly
assessing his situation. It is a nearly impossible way to live life. The only thing that keeps him
going is the idea of revenge against his wife s murderer.
The way this movie messes with time in the past is not new. Pulp Fiction did it, and many other
movies did, but never like the way Memento has chosen to work it. The movie is broken up into
individual segments, and each one ends where the one before it began. This is confusing, but it
does not take long to understand how the story is going to be told. Nolan wants the audience to
feel what it is like when you cannot make any new memories and cannot trust anyone. That is
what Nolan accomplish, the audience feels like they are in Leonard s shoes. This method Nolan
uses creates an amount of tension and suspense. The audience knows what happened, but now they
want to know why it happened. We learn the bits Leonard forgets. Nolan created a unique movie,
blending color and black and white images and with this technique of filmmaking. It is truly
original; the audience will feel just as confused and lost as Leonard when each scene begins.
In a way this movie is social commentary, in a world that wants people to believe they can trust
everyone the movie shows what it is like when you

Burnout And Overtraining And Sport Psychology
This week I read the chapter on Burnout and Overtraining and Children and Sport Psychology. I
found this to be an interesting topic that many people do not consider. Due to the competitiveness
of sports or a performance setting, people are encouraged to continue training and to not take time
off. However, excessive training can lead to overtraining and burnout. This can then cause athletes
to be more susceptible to injury, concerns in interpersonal relationships such as not having time to
be with friends or added stress from parents, psychological concerns such as losing enjoyment for
the activity, etc. That is why it is important to take time to prevent burnout from happening. I know
for dance, my teacher always commented on how taking a week off from dance during the
holidays can be helpful. This is because during the schoolyear we were stressed with academics and
in November/December we finished a stressful, busy season with Nutcracker performances. By the
time of winter... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, when we returned from the break, I found I was more in tuned to my dancing, able to
balance better, and felt more focused. That is because taking that relaxing break helped to prevent
burnout. It is important to take breaks every now and then. It can be beneficial to advancing
forward in technique and healthy for the mind. People may think taking breaks would be
counterintuitive, but short breaks can be effective for athletes or performers.
In addition, the chapter of Children and Sport Psychology discussed reasons children participate in
sport but also reasons for why they drop out. Again, applying this to dance, it is very interesting to
look at the numbers of those that start dance and those

Gung Ho Differences
Even though technology has made the World seem like a smaller place, where everyone is
connected, there is one thing that will always separate us and make us different and that is are
cultures. With many cultural differences between countries, it affects how we do business, our
beliefs, the language we speak and much more. In the movie Gung Ho it examines the cultural
difference between how the American and Japanese people do work. It shows the difference in
work ethics, food, and the language deferential. One of the first cultural difference is language. In
the movie Gung Ho it starts out with Hunt leaving his hometown and traveling across the world;
when he arrives in Japan he faces a language barrier, not knowing what the signs say or

A Jackie Kay Owl
The faint, almost invisible, line between child and adult, carefree and responsible, becomes
more and more blurry and grey the closer you get to it. First, it is said that you reach adulthood
and step into the real world, when you confirm your faith in God, but thrusting that threshold
yourself, you just know you are not yet an adult. So then, you postpone it until the age of 18. By
then you should be starting your career, or at least have an idea of where you are going, and
more importantly you are now legally an adult, with the right to vote and take care of others, but
also with the hard realities of facing up to your mistakes. Coming to terms with who you are as you

She has made a development from child to adult, even though she cannot see it herself. She
notices and analyzes, as she retells, the feelings she put Sandra through by excluding her. This also
indicates the change she has made from her age of ten until her forty s; in spite her own lack of
recognizing it.
It is later on revealed that the same holiday where Barn and Tawny discovered the barn owl, they
also found out that their parents had swapped. This collision of two worlds and confusion over
splitting parents keeps coming up in Barns mind. She tells Tawny that she cannot stop thinking
about that summer, and at first, one might think that this has to do with the owl that tied their
friendship together. However, when looking closer you will realize that her own recent split
from a man causes her lingering to this memory. It is briefly brought up by her and Tawny but
not really spoken of, which is caused by Barn s conflicting emotions from her parents split. On
one hand, their splitting brought her closer to her best friend and gave her something consistent in
her life that she knew would never fail her. On the other, she is scared to be alone, and taking over
all the responsibility for herself, becoming an adult. Therefore, she leans on Tawny to be the only
trusty thing in her life.

Humanities Reflection
Nice discussion post this week! We both agree with the articles by Kristof and Kaleem and I
enjoyed as well. The quote you have mentioned also makes a lot of sense to me too and got me
thinking. I struggled with the big questions of life and still am, but I have been able to have a
much better appreciation for life and have had a better time at finding that true purpose. Having
a lot of information thrown at us constantly though can be challenging, I do not blame you! I
agree with too that the humanities can help people to stay grounded in an ever changing
informational world; I know it has for me. This is why I agree with the articles because the
humanities should be taught and explored in the academic setting. Living in a digital world
definitely has pros (communication, medical advances, etc.) and cons, such as social media at
times like you have mentioned. It has done and will do so much for us, but it also can be too
much at times. Luckily my parents raised me to appreciate life and what I have and I never was
fixated on my phone or electronics . I think that is why I became an artist myself. I needed a way
to express my self and spend my time. Art was the answer for me. It allowed me to find myself
and express myself in a way an electronic could not for me. After reading the article Extraordinary
Outsiders: The Makers Who Don t Know They re Artists this week I could really relate because
art is one of my passions and when I was in high school I volunteered with the

Eunice Lathem, 22, of Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan, passed away on the night of November
20th, 1955, after falling through thin ice at a skating party in her honour. Residents of the town
came to celebrate the recent engagement of Lathem and her fiance, Nathan Singleton, on the
cold, November night. The celebration was to be held at a nearby lake which appeared to be
frozen over and suitable for skating. The party commenced at around 6:30 p.m. lasting several
hours before many began to head home. At around 10 o clock that night, Lathem and her younger
sister Delia Sykes were seen venturing out into the east bank of the lake. At approximately 10:05

help were able to drag Sykes back to safety. As we were doing it, Singleton stated, The ice broke
beneath our feet and the second (Lathem) went under. Onlookers did not realize that Eunice had
fallen through until the hole became illuminated by the moon. We went back to the hole, but
Eunice had vanished. There wasn t any way we could get her body Singleton concluded. Will
Singleton, Nathan s brother, also attended the event. It was an awful thing to have happen on
our place he said. My brother was a hero who risked his life though there was no way on earth he
could save both girls. All I know is that he will never fully recover. All that the town can do at this
point is try and prevent this from happening again. The Willow Bunch funeral home and the
Lathem and Singleton families have organized Eunice s funeral to take place on Sunday,
November 22nd and her name will always be remembered on a gravestone in St. Chad s parish. All

The Psychoobiography Of Michael Jackson

Infancy
The only time that Michael wasn t in the limelight was in his infancy. His fame began in the
preschool years. During this time, there was a cognitive development, development involving the
ways that growth and change in intellectual capabilities influences a person s behavior, that was
occurring and it s important to take note in particular to Michael s egocentrism. This is to say that
he did not have an understanding that there were perspectives other than his own. He failed to
realize that others may have held thoughts that were different from his. His being in the spotlight
and being constant praised, definitely made him believe that he was on a pedestal, he was above
lots of things. This relates to his actions as an adult in where because he was highly regarded as a
child and throughout his life, he failed to realize that there are social norms he must adhere to and
that there are consequences for his actions.
Pressures
Michael Jackson spent a lot of time around his family because schedule. He and his brother were

Explain why individuals might be reluctant to raise concerns and make complaints In a care
home setting a relative may feel like they are putting their loved one (service user) at risk of
further maltreatment or prejudicial treatment if they complain. They might fear that they will be
identified as being the one whom complained and then, as a result, that the young person might
be the target of a rebellious staff members emotional response. Conversely, a lot of relatives see
how hard the staff are working and feel that they don t want to complain because they sympathise
with the difficult job that the carers have to carry out, so they might feel like they are being
ungrateful for the care their loved one receives. A relative might also not be aware that they can
complain (although this is in the welcome back and checked by social services and that it has
been given) or might not know what the expectation are for the care of their loved one. They may
assume that what has given them cause for concern is the norm and that in complaining they will
be told that is just the way it is . A relative might not think their concern or

Is the reason linked to pragmatism, ethics, strategy, or some combination? While I believe that
USAA s CSR motivation is based on ethics. I feel that they could easily increase their customer
base to move beyond only members of the military. They have been a successful company since
1922 however they choose to remain at their current size on focus on their core group of
customers. This shows focus and an aversion to greed and growth for the sake of profit.
Adversely, Volkswagen s motivation for CSR is strategy and marketing. The fact that the
company developed a technology to deceive the public and willingly lied to the EPA and to 11
million customers about it, goes to show that ethics were no the forefront in their CSR. Seems like
a company that only participates in CSR because they are expected to, not because they want to.

Reasonable Persuasion Vs Probable Cause Analysis
Upon looking at the terms of reasonable suspicion and probable cause, one will believe that they
both mean the same thing but stated in two entirely different ways. Reasonable suspicion is the
rational conjecture that a crime has been, will be or is being performed based on the details and
situations presented along with the officer s knowledge and familiarity. Probable causeis supported
by facts and circumstance along the same lines of reasonable suspicion except that it includes
concrete evidence that is able to support the crime. Reasonable suspicion is when it looks as
though a crime has been performed and is used as validation for investigating suspicious behaviors.
These are just two terms that are meant to be deciphered by the public

A civil lawsuit involves an individual, business or governmental agency that is seeking relief from
another individual, business or governmental agency. They seek the reimbursement of monetary
damages or equitable relief for harm caused to an individual or group.
Parties to civil suits may choose to have their cases decided by a jury or a judge only. Most cases are
negotiated outside of the courtroom and a settlement agreement between the parties is entered.
When a person, group of people or business entity feels harmed by another usually consults with an
attorney in an effort to resolve the dispute and obtain equitable relief or money damages. The
attorney interviews witnesses and perform legal research. If there is a legitimate cause of action

a small multi purpose business called Asaya Hardware and Asaya Beauty Box which changed on
July 5th 2014 from Causeway ВЈ Saver. The business is both a hardware store and a beauty salon,
the beauty salon specialising in Afro Caribbean hair styles. For the controlled assessment I will be
doing task 3, which states: Which of the qualities shown by an entrepreneur has most contributed to
the success of their business?
In response to this task I found a mixture of desk and field research; desk research expressing
various opinions of entrepreneurial skills, field research being questionnaires and feedback forms
expressing the entrepreneur, the staff and some customer s views.
From Appendix 1 I have become more aware of the importance of planning within a business it
allows an entrepreneur to decide their desired outcome for the business. Planning with
consistency is also important (Appendix 4) as it leads to a more success and stability for the
business; Asaya Marks does this by using forecasts often when planning which may lead to a
more organised method of planning. Asaya Marks business benefits from planning as she can be
more prepared for circumstances such as an increase in supply and demand in which she could
have already planned a way to purchase goods from a different seller at short notice.

Child Labor During The United States
Statement of the problem: Many of the products that are used and consumed in the United States
are made in other countries. One of the main reasons for multinational corporations to produce
goods in countries other than the United States is the cost of production. It is far cheaper to

This sculpture represents Bodhisattva Maitreya. Bodhisattvas are knowledgeable characters who

Tremendous changes have occurred throughout the last two eras concerning the route in which

Comparing Plato And Beauty By Hofstadter And Kuhns
Talon Kingfisher Dr. McKeon Art Theory 2 23 February, 2017 Plato and Ion To Plato, the world
and mind set is a mimesis of the true absolute world. That all shapes found by definition here is
transcendent in the realm that is greater and above this reality. When applying this belief of
ideal concepts in forms to our world, Plato then can theorize importance of professions here
based on its direction to those praised forms above. In Art Beauty by Hofstadter and Kuhns, Plato
s written works from 400 B.C. can map out his philosophy on artworks. We particularly find that
Plato creates a distinction between poetry and art works as two different classes. Plato seeks a
higher reality than the imminent one around us, therefore, everything he finds of art and anything
else here in this reality will ultimately be based on its true form. We can find these answers in Ion
when the famed minstrel, named Ion, asks of Plato to explain why he only stays... Show more

In the Republic, Plato centers any form of creating something as poiesis no matter what is being
created. He states that anyone who creates is then in Greek, poietai what we today call call
poets. Therefore, having a basis in names, art and poetry are similar in that they both are a form
of creating by us no matter if we technically crafted it or was possessed and forced to make the
art. Poetry does not follow the three main things to create techne listed from Plato, but lacks one
rule leaving it similar, but not the same. We can assemble poetry with our minds making it our
media we use; the skill is in the creating process of using the mind to make the words of poetry.
Then there is the knowledge or understanding in how to manipulate the medium. This is the
training to make a chair or to make a table and it is in lack of when referring to poetry because

The Representative Free Decision Act
As per distributed media reports, work pioneers, including authorities at the AFL CIO, Change to
Win organization, and others, are making entry of the Representative Free Decision Act ( EFCA )
their top administrative need in the new 111th Congress set to start in January 2009. In its present
structure, EFCA would adjust the National Work Relations Act ( NLRA ) to:
(1) Require the National Work Relations Board ( NLRB ) guarantee a union based upon a
dominant part card check (rather than ensuring a union strictly when it gets a lion s share of
worker votes in a mystery poll decision);

increases in the House and the Senate in the November 2008 race.
EFCA s key components are portrayed in more detail beneath.
I. Confirmation Taking into account Greater part Card Check
EFCA would revise Area 9(c) of the NLRA to require that, where a worker s party documents a
representation appeal, the NLRB must ensure the union as the restrictive dealing illustrative of the

through marked approval cards.
Right now, under the NLRA, a business need not perceive a union in view of marked approval

of votes cast in a mystery poll race led by the NLRB. Under EFCA, a business would not be
approved to require a mystery tally decision

account a card check.

Super Rugby Research Paper
Rugby Union is a sport that has been a key part of Australian culture for hundreds of years. It
began as a modest competition between a few clubs but slowly went through many changes
over the last century. In this paper, I will discuss the history and outcomes of the gradual
commercialization of Rugby Union and relate it to my experience at a Super Rugby game. By
the turn of the 20th century, Rugby Union was already undergoing a significant change. Popular
clubs were being disbanded in favor of creating district clubs . Although it was met with criticism
100 years ago, I believe this was a step in the right direction, as we learned the importance of
linking a club to its community in our studies of Rugby League. After a brief period of a... Show

purchase tickets to enter. Also, they were playing in a stadium sponsored by the insurance

stadium were billboards advertising various companies. The jerseys that the players wore even
had advertisements on them, as did the ones being sold to adoring fans. Furthermore, concession
stands sold average food and beverages at relatively high prices. This certainly does not mean I
did not enjoy my experience at the game far from it, in fact. The matchup and game itself was a
far more exciting experience than I had at the Rugby League game, and the blatant
commercialization did not take away from the event. Nonetheless, it was quite obvious that the
franchises try to nickel and dime the fans at every turn, but this is something I have come to
expect after years of attending sporting events. All in all, it is easy to see how and why Rugby
Union has become commercialized over the years. The sport had to make changes to survive, and
it ended up working out well for the sport and its fans. Even if it now costs money to attend an
event that was somewhat recently free to watch, I am happy to pay money to the cause if it means

Friar Lawrence: Positive or Negative Presence? Option A According to the prompt, critics have

While Friar Lawrence ultimately let to the character s demise, I believe he was a positive

Nobody Never Gets To Heaven And Nobody Gets No Land Analysis
The quote from the book, Nobody never gets to heaven, and nobody gets no land (74), subtlety
explains an underlying detail to the grand theme regarding the American Dream in the story Of
Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. The statement mentioned by Crooks, one of the characters that
had once sought for the dream, sums up the theme that humanity keeps chasing the same objective
of living a successful life, yet it remains unachievable. The plot of the story revolves around
George and Lennie, a pair of migrant farmers that work towards their personal dream of owning
personal land for by working on a ranch where they must attempt to cooperate with the multiple
personalities of the other workers to gain enough money to leave the ranch for their dream.
Throughout the story, multiple characters strive for the American Dream, seeking fulfillment in
their lives, but achievement of the dream proved to be insurmountable by the experience of Curley

Education And The National Curriculum Framework
While teaching in state maintained schools, it is necessary that the National Curriculum
Framework is followed and children are taught the relevant skills and knowledge stated within
each Programme of Study. Therefore, there must be structure to the lessons where these skills
and knowledge are to be developed throughout the academic year. Previous teaching strategies
required teachers to follow a rigid plan where each individual lesson was to last one hour and be
taught at a certain time on a certain day (i.e. The Literacy Hour). These strategies are no longer
necessary for teachers to follow anymore; it is now possible for teachers to integrate lessons using a
central theme, enabling them to teach pupils in a more imaginative and original way, which will
stimulate children s interest and engagement whilst still developing the necessary skills and
knowledgespecified in the National Curriculum (Sewell, 2015). This integrated curriculum allows
children to pursue learningin a holistic way without the restrictions often imposed by subject
boundaries (Kelly, 2001). Subject integration provides an opportunity for students to make natural
and meaningful connections between and among multiple content areas (Bogan, King McKenzie,
Bantwini, 2012:1055). The human brain does not separate knowledge into discrete partitions but
creates a complex web of information that recognises patterns... , thus thematic teaching works with

Persuasive Essay On Indian Removal

The Indian Removal Act took place in 1830 by order of president Andrew Jackson to relocate
Native indians to the west. In his speech called On Indian Removal , he explains how Indian
Removal is beneficial to both the Indians and White Americans. Another writing about Indian
removal is a personal story about a young boy being relocated with his clan and traveling on what
is known as the Trail Of Tears. Though these two readings discuss the same topic, they use very
different language to get their point across and to describe their view on Indian removal. Between
the two pieces of writing, there are differences in the description of the situation, sentence structure,
and tone. The differences in language between Jackson s On Indian Removal and Rutledge s
Samuel s Memory show that Indian removal was viewed differently by different groups of people,
and affected them in various ways.
The way that the situation is described in the two readings is very different. In Jackson s On
Indian Removal , he says, These remove hundreds and almost thousands of miles at their own
expense, purchase the lands they occupy, and support themselves at their new homes from the
moment of their arrival..... How many thousands of our own people would gladly embrace the
opportunity of removing to the West on such conditions! . Here he is saying that Indian Removal is

Analysis Of The Movie Dark Souls Ost
Dark Souls OST
There was somewhat of a surprise for VGM listeners upon the release of the first trailer for Dark
Souls, FromSoftware s spiritual successor to Demon s souls. Even before any initial
announcement was made, it was easy to recognize the work of veteran freelance composer
Motoi Sakuraba, his trademark compositional style being so integral. Known primarily for his
virtuosic progressive rock compositions, Dark Souls was to be his first fully orchestral work
since the Baroque influenced Infinite Undiscovery nearly half a decade prior, and promised to be
his bleakest to match the somber and sorrowful medieval inspired world of the Souls series as
previously defined by composer Shinsuke Kita. And there s good news for those who may fear the
presence of one of Sakuraba s frequent collaborators, the synth orchestra: all of the instruments are
live. In addition, the grandeur of the collection of strings and brass receive a helping voice from
the surprise contribution of the Tokyo Philharmonic Chorus. So, let s listen and hear if Motoi
Sakuraba s step out of his typical area will stand up or stumble.
Motoi Sakuraba announces his presence with the grandiose opening theme Prologue . Listeners
familiar with the soundtrack to Valkyrie Profile 2 will recognize the subtle build of harp and strings
into an unlashing of full orchestral tutti. However, it s the next track that truly defines the bleaker
timbre of this soundtrack. Firelink Shrine is the piece for the

Fayol s “Principles” in a University Library
In reading through Management Basics for Information Professionals by Evans and Ward, one of
the theories of management that stood out to me was the administrative approach (2007). Henry
Fayol was one of the main proponents of this approach, though there were many others as well.
Fayol divided organizational activities into five major groups and also identified 14 principles of
managementand believed that management is a skill one can learn, rather than a talent received at
birth (Evans Ward, 2007). In the context of my personal experience I found that it might be
interesting to compare my experiences as a student employee in the UC Berkeley libraryto some of
the more applicable aspects of Fayol s principles of management. I... Show more content on

Another of Fayol s principles had to do with authority and responsibility. In the department of the
main stacks, there was a staff librarian who acted as our manager, as well as a group of students
that performed supervisory tasks. In my last year or so in the library I joined this group, and
was given the task of doing some of the day to day tasks that kept our department running. These
included opening and closing procedures, keeping statistics of the work done by students,
assigning hourly jobs, training, and so on. The important idea in this principle is that giving
orders and being responsible must go together (Evans Ward, 2007). I would argue that in our
department, while we were responsible for making sure the work was done as well as assigning
jobs, if there was a difficult situation the supervisors were able to refer to the staff librarian for
support. For example, if one student was chronically underperforming or late, we would notify
the librarian. If one considered the group of supervisors plus the librarian who managed us to
make up the management of the department, then in whole authority and responsibility did go
together. I would also say that instead of thinking of student supervisors as not being as
responsible as they could be, it would be more plausible to say that the hourly assignment of jobs
and other such tasks were ones that were delegated to them by the librarian, because while he was
more responsible, there was no way that he could

sucking of leaves causes gradual absorption and onset of effects. Snorting cocainecontributes to fast

The Gilded Age, And The Gilded Age
In science, we have been taught that for every action there is a reaction. However, this can also be
applied to history. For example, after the French and Indian War, Britain had enforced the
navigation laws and taxes in order to pay for the war debt. This had caused a huge reaction from
the colonies from as simple as boycotting British goods all the way to declaring their independence
in 1776. Individuals can also help bring forth these dramatic changes such as Rosa Parks and Martin
Luther King Jr. who help fought for civil rights. Thus, throughout the United States history, the
nation has gone through a variety of changes. Although presidents have played a significant role in
the nation s changes, many individuals have also brought changes to the nation s economy,
government, and society. In addition to heroes like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr, another
individual includes Upton Sinclairand his contribution to consumer protection. The Gilded Age, a
phrase coined by Mark Twain, was used to describe the government and its corruption. Like its
name, the nation looked glamorous from the outside, but was full of corruption and political
scandals on the inside such as the Credit Mobilier scandal and Boss Tweed scandal. Government
at this time did little to help the nation, for its own congressmen were involved in the mix of these
corruptions. The government supported laissez faire, which believed that the government should
not regulate business and Social Darwinism survival of the fittest. As a result, this had led to the
suppression of individual rights, for there were no laws to limit the power of monopolies.
Therefore, the Gilded Age became known as corrupt, for the government had favored big
businesses and focused less on the working class. However, this would all change during the
Progressive Era.
In contrast of the Gilded Age, the Progressive Era was a response to the problems that were
created by the Gilded Age. Unlike the Gilded Age, the Progressive Era did not support laissez
faire and rejected the idea of Social Darwinism. Thus in 1901, Theodore Roosevelt was elected
president and came into office with his Square Deal policy. Included in this policy were Roosevelt

much of his wealth is obtained by his Master Donkey, who excretes gold. In both tales it is

princess in All Kinds of Fur. The princess, referred to as All Kinds of Fur, is solely responsible
for her choices and actions, coming only from her own savvy brain. Horrified by her father s

appearance issues, equal rights, and shame. The Lesson was an intriguing story filled with
history, told by a fictional character on a toy story journey to learn a lesson of equality. The
story is about a trip put together by Miss Moore, one of the main characters. Miss Moore in a
sense is the antagonist to the story, putting these kids in a difficult, but real life situation. However,
the real antagonist is the society they live in. The story touches on the very truth that life in the
United States can be very hard, especially for those around the poverty line. Society is the

Country. The begins his speech with addressing his award and then the begins talking about the

Pipelines Are Making Headlines Lately For All The Wrong...
Pipelines are making headlines lately for all the wrong reasons. It is important to address why
they are perceived to be harmful, if they actually are, and how they can be improved for the
future, or if they should be eliminated. The use of pipelines date back as far as 500BC in China.
In those times, the pipelines were made of bamboo, used to separate the salt from the sea water.
The United States did not adopt these until much later. Edwin L. Drake drilled his first
commercial oil well in the United States near the city Titusville in Pennsylvania; the oil which
they nicknamed rock oil was then used as a less expensive alternative to whale oil. It was used
as lubricant and as fuel for lamps. It was not long after this that it was realized they would need a
more cost effective way of transporting the oil from place to place. At the time, Teamsters were
using horses and wagons to get the oil to the markets; one barrel going five miles costed more than
the entire rail charged to go to New York City. For that reason, the pipeline was created. The first
pipelines were nothing special; they were short and sometimes made of wood. With their growing
popularity into the 1860s, the quality control followed over the pipe manufacturing, switching from
wrought iron to steal. (Pipeline 101, n.d.) Coming into the twenty first century, the pipeline has still
been playing a key role in the oil industry. Given, its importance to the oil industry it is important to
understand how

Egon Schiele s Portrait Of Wally Essay
Art, in essence, is one of the most crucial pieces of cultural history. It transcends language,
emanates emotion, provokes thought, and stimulates imagination. In other words, art is of
monumental value in its scope of what befalls under its umbrella. It was no wonder why during
the Nazi regime from 1933 1945 that the Nazis would thieve some of Europe s most treasured
works but also those deemed degenerate. Egon Schieles Portrait of Wally is a perfect example as to
what degenerate art would be considered and what the Nazis would have been interested in
seizing, but why? Egon Schiele s Portrait of Wally is a figurative oil painting depicting Walburga
Neuzil. In this painting, a medium to close up view of Neuzil as she gazes out of the picture

In their relationship over the ensuing years, Neuzil would become Schiele s model, muse, and
lover. Although four years her senior, Schiele would rely on Neuzil for her care and as
inspiration for his work. A pivotal moment of their relationship occurred when Schiele was taken
into investigative custody for abduction of a minor. Although the charges brought against him
were groundless, Schiele served time in prison for 24 days for distribution of indecent drawings.
During his prison sentence, Neuzil visited Schiele every day to provide art supplies and prove
her devotion. The relationship subsequently came to an end in June of 1915 when Schiele
married Edith Harms. Schiele and Neuzil never met again. Neuzil became a nurse for the war
effort and died on Christmas day of 1917 of scarlet fever in Croatia. Schiele would die months later

The Definition Of Social Equity In Public Administration
Social equity was presented to public administration first by H. George Frederickson in the 1960s
after the Standing Panel on Social Equity in Governance was created by the National Academy of
Public Administration (NAPA) (Johnson, 2012). Social equity is the fourth pillar of public
administration by the NAPA (Norman Major, 2011). According to the panel their definition of
social equity is fair, just and equitable management of all institutions serving the public directly or
by contract (Johnson, 2012). In Wooldridge, Gooden (2009) they state that the idea of social equity
in public administration is inseparably linked to John Rawlss A Theory of Justice(1971). Rawls
developed the principle of justice as fairness. Fairness is justice would mean that people have
equal rights to basic liberty (Rawls, 1971). To be discussed will be comparison and differences
between many author overtime that has touch social equity regarding its definition, challenges
along with the overall conclusion. The fact that the use of these notions has evolved in different
ways over time (Herrera, 2007) is why this is being mentioned.
What is social equity
Every author interprets and define social equity a little differently. Social equity issues, refers to
the distribution of fairness. (Guy McCandless, 2012). Social equity is rooted in the idea that each
person is equal and has inalienable rights. With America s being a blend of social, religious,
economic, and political characteristics, the

Probable Cause Vs Reasonable Persuasion
Differentiate between probable cause and reasonable suspicion. Explain how these concepts apply
in criminal cases.
There is a huge reason why the terms reasonable suspicion and probable cause are often confused
with each other. Both have two different levels of suspicion, causing the two to be frequently
interchanged by mistake. The legal standard of proof in United States law that is less than
probable cause is reasonable suspicion. Reasonable suspicion is evaluated using the reasonable
person or reasonable officer standard, in which another officer in the same circumstances could
reasonably suspect a person has been, is, or is about to be engaged in criminal activity. This would
mean that a crime occurred and the said suspect is more likely than not the perpetrator. The suspect
has the mental capacity, the obvious opportunity, and the capability to perform the crime under
investigation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Probable cause must exist for a law enforcement officer to make an arrest without a warrant,
search without a warrant, or seize property in the belief the items were evidence of a crime.
While some cases are easy such as, pistols and illicit drugs in plain sight, gunshots, a suspect
running from a liquor store with a clerk screaming help , other cases can be subjective. If a police
officer s belief or even hunch was correct, finding stolen goods, the hidden weapon or drugs may be

Analyzing The Consumers Generating Inter Harmonic Frequencies
Alexander B. Nassif and Jing Yong [7] have proposed a method to identify the consumers
generating inter harmonic frequencies. The inter harmonics can be measured by means of
Impedance based approach applied at the metering point. The main idea is that, the inter harmonic
impedance of the system is much smaller than that of an inter harmonic generating load. This
method can identify the source of each inter harmonic component without having to rely solely on
the active power measurement and requires only an approximate value for the inter harmonic
impedance measured at the metering point. As per references [2], [6], [7], [9] any device with
nonlinear characteristics which derive their input power from a sinusoidal electrical system may
be responsible for injecting harmonic currents voltages into the electrical system [2, 6, 7, 9 ].
Francisco C. De la rossa [2] have described ,all possible nonlinear loads . Among them few are
Power converters such as Variable frequency drives, DC motor controllers, Cycloconverter, Cranes,
Elevators ,Steel mills, Power supplies, UPS,Battery chargers, Inverters ARC devices such as
Fluorescent lighting, ARC furnaces, Welding machines. According to authors [2] ,[7] Even linear
loads like power transformers can act nonlinear under saturation conditions. This occurs beyond the
so called saturation knee of the magnetizing curve of the transformer. [2],[7]. According to author

Devine Lord Micah sat alone in his home, studiously sipping his hot tea, his eyes staring at a
cluttered table by the fireplace. He takes another sip, setting down his cup, and rose from his
chair. He saunters to the table, bundling the scattered papers together, and places them on a shelf
containing clear jars with different colored liquids, tin cups filled with an assortment of herbs,
and multiple metal objects from daggers to chains. He steps back from the shelf, looking around
the spacious room, his eyes landing on a glass jar on another shelf with a white label, with the
word water spelled on it. He slides his thumb across the label, pulling it off the shelf. The water s

Fensive Cost Of Defense
The Offensive Cost of Defense The United States spends far more than any other country on
defense and security with no end in sight to their expenditures. The total military spending by the
United States is nearly equal to the combined military spending of every other nation combined.
This unreasonable amount of spending hinders the capacity to provide basic needs, as well as
eliminating money that can be used to resolve other domestic issues, while at the same time
allowing for short term economic prosperity and increasing our national defense capacity. The
United Statesmilitary spending accounts for nearly 54% of federal discretionary spending. Of the
$1.1 trillion in discretionary spending in the United States, military spending accounts for the
widest amount of spending with $598.5 billion being spent, roughly 54%. The section of federal
discretionary spending that was even remotely close to the money spent on the military is the
federal discretionary spending that the government accrued at just under $73 billion which accounts
for only 6% of the $1.1 trillion in discretionary spending. In 2011 the United States government
spent about $718 billion on defense and international security assistance, more than it spent on
Medicare. United States military expenditures are roughly the size of the next nine largest military
budgets around the world, combined. The military s high expenditures impact the economy s ability
to provide to other domestic services and programs.

Morality In Jack London s The Call Of The Wild
Jack London, in his book The call of the wild , portrays, that the strongest, smartest, and the one
who is not shy of compromising their morals in the wilderness, will always prosper. In this novel,
Buck, the protagonist, a Saint Bernard/ scotch shepherd mix, is taken from his home in California,
and becomes a sled dog, and eventually the lead sled dog, in Alaska. Buck is constantly learning
about life in the wild, about the law of club and fang, and how the man with the club is the top,
and you do not fight that. He also learns that the strong survive well when he kills Spitz. In the
book, Buck always ate slow and deliberately, but seeing another dog steal food, to get more, and
being fed much less than he is used to, he adapts this practice, against his own morals, and steals
food. Later in the book, London says that buck was now wise in the way of the club . This shows:
In the call of the wild, buck learns that only the strong and smart survive in the wild, and that
unfortunately, to survive, sometimes, moral integrity is compromised.
Midst this novel, the smart are the strong. During Buck s fight with the former lead dog; Spitz was
untouched, while Buck was streaming with blood and panting. It seems as if the battle will be
soon be over, due to the fact that: The fighting was getting desperate ... As buck grew winded, Spitz
took to rushing, and he kept him staggering for footing. Buck then realizes that his size, though

Human Conscience And Destiny In Oedipus The King By Sophocles
Among the Greek tragedies, there can probably be found something deeper and more elaborate,
than Oedipus the King by Sophocles, but there is not a single one, in which the philosophical depth
and tragic strength would be combined with such incomparable sophistication, noble grace and
structural perfection. The image of a monstrous Sphinx with the face of a woman, wings, sharp
claws, the body of a lion and mysteriously dangerous speech penetrates the whole tragedy as an
incorporation of destiny and unknown future. The following research represents a critical analysis
of the Sophoclestragedy, dealing with various issues raised in it. It gives a detailed analysis of

He saved people from the deathly and truly intimidating allurement of the monster and solved its
riddle. This is what he is like at the beginning of the tragedy. He is described as the savior of
humanity from the dark forces of the Destiny, a hero of mind and will. The people believed that he
would conquer the monster and he himself believed in his own strength. The people considered him
a wise deity and he himself thinks so.
However, Oedipus is a human being and nothing more. The victory of mind and will over Sphinx
as a symbol of Destiny is temporary. Although, Sphinx ran away and left the people in peace, it
pierced the heart of the hero and would soon once again give him unsolvable riddles. This is the
core of the tragedy. Although Sphinx no longer exists, it is still inside the soul of its conqueror.
It is more intimidating than any carnivorous animal as now he is elusive and bodiless just like a
phantom. Sphinx is the mystery of life and every human conscience. The prophet Tiresias has a
full right to mock the savior of people by saying that he should no save himself. Let him know
who his mother and father are and what the meaning of life is. The meaning of life lies in the
victory of his spirit over Destiny and victory of Destiny over spirit (Bloom 65). Let every human

Animals In The Trojan War
As we discussed in class, the Iliad s mortals lie between gods and animals in their thoughts and
actions, and often struggle to overcome their baser instincts in the pursuit of god like wisdom and
power. However, the events of the Trojan War paradoxically suggest that in order to attain divine
glory heroes must become increasingly bestial, slowly losing their humanity as the battle drags on.
Homer makes the inhuman ferocity of his heroes obvious, most notably in frequent similes
comparing various fighters to predators. These comparisons are more frequent and violent as the
war escalates. During the peak of Agamemnon s fury in battle, he is compared to a lion [seizing] the
innocent young of the running deer...and [ripping] out... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the Achaians and the Trojans place high value on honor earned in battle, multiple
characters comment on the futility of war. While in combat, Menelaos angrily declares that the
Trojans will never be satisfied with their accomplishments in war, directly contrasting it with more
humane activities such as song and dance. Even Achilleus admits, There [is] no gratitude given for
fighting incessantly forever against your enemies...A man dies still if he has done nothing, as one
who has done much (9.316 318). However, the heroes recognition of the wasteful, unending nature
of war is ultimately meaningless, as emotion drives them to fight even when logic would tell them
to turn back. This is what separates the humans from the gods gods have some control over their
emotions, while humans, like animals, are completely beholden to them. This contrast is clearest in
Book 16, where Zeus ultimately masters his own sadness over his son Sarpedon s impending death
and allows fate to take its course, while Patroklos, in a huge blind fury (16.685), forgets Achilleus s
orders and pursues the Trojans, leading to his demise. Thus, the human heroes lead a fundamentally
tragic existence they, like animals, are increasingly controlled by their instincts and emotions as the

The black ghetto of television has opened up lately, and shows featuring African
Americans in a variety of roles may be viewed any night of the week. This shift is primarily the
result of challenges made by the NAACP, and the resulting general shifts in public attitudes about
race. But the new representations of blacks are also shaped by the historical stereotypes which
plagued African Americans.
In 1971 actor and director Melvin Van Peebles wrote, produced, starred in, and composed the
soundtrack for the film Sweet Sweetback s Badasssss Song . An entirely black production, it
broke the mold of black characterization in feature films. The story revolves around a pimp
suddenly radicalized by aiding a young black revolutionary who is beaten by white cops. His
resulting disgust with the white establishment struck a cord with black audiences everywhere. The
films ending, with it s proclamation that quot;a badasssss nigger is coming back to collect some

Hollywood and for blacks in film. Blaxploitation was born.

Indian did sue Harley Davidson in the mid 1900 s because Indian saw that on Harleys new model was a carburetor of his design and Indian accused Harley of plagiarizing their design of a the carburetor so Indian sued them for steeling their carburetor design. In court Harley won because Indian did not have any contract our paper work that would secure their design. • 3. Essay on Memento Memento Memento is a movie directed by Chris Nolan. It was released in 2000. The leading actor is Guy Pearce. Carrie Anne Moss and Joe Pantoliano are also in this movie. Memento is a perplexed thriller. Leonard, the main character, is excellently played by Guy Pierce. He is constantly confused, yet still acts in a nonchalant way. Teddy (Pantoliano) and Natalie (CarrieAnne Moss) play puzzling characters, throughout the whole movie the viewer questions, whether they may or may not be Leonard s friends. The characters are not conform the general image of Americans, but that has a lot to do with the fact the audience does not know whether they should trust Leonard s story or Leonard s friends. Teddy does not look like an ordinary cop, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He lives his life by taking notes and Polaroid pictures, the facts he records in tattoo form all over his body. Every time he loses his concentration it s as if he has just woken up, he is constantly assessing his situation. It is a nearly impossible way to live life. The only thing that keeps him going is the idea of revenge against his wife s murderer. The way this movie messes with time in the past is not new. Pulp Fiction did it, and many other movies did, but never like the way Memento has chosen to work it. The movie is broken up into individual segments, and each one ends where the one before it began. This is confusing, but it does not take long to understand how the story is going to be told. Nolan wants the audience to feel what it is like when you cannot make any new memories and cannot trust anyone. That is what Nolan accomplish, the audience feels like they are in Leonard s shoes. This method Nolan uses creates an amount of tension and suspense. The audience knows what happened, but now they want to know why it happened. We learn the bits Leonard forgets. Nolan created a unique movie, blending color and black and white images and with this technique of filmmaking. It is truly original; the audience will feel just as confused and lost as Leonard when each scene begins. In a way this movie is social commentary, in a world that wants people to believe they can trust everyone the movie shows what it is like when you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Burnout And Overtraining And Sport Psychology This week I read the chapter on Burnout and Overtraining and Children and Sport Psychology. I found this to be an interesting topic that many people do not consider. Due to the competitiveness of sports or a performance setting, people are encouraged to continue training and to not take time off. However, excessive training can lead to overtraining and burnout. This can then cause athletes to be more susceptible to injury, concerns in interpersonal relationships such as not having time to be with friends or added stress from parents, psychological concerns such as losing enjoyment for the activity, etc. That is why it is important to take time to prevent burnout from happening. I know for dance, my teacher always commented on how taking a week off from dance during the holidays can be helpful. This is because during the schoolyear we were stressed with academics and in November/December we finished a stressful, busy season with Nutcracker performances. By the time of winter... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, when we returned from the break, I found I was more in tuned to my dancing, able to balance better, and felt more focused. That is because taking that relaxing break helped to prevent burnout. It is important to take breaks every now and then. It can be beneficial to advancing forward in technique and healthy for the mind. People may think taking breaks would be counterintuitive, but short breaks can be effective for athletes or performers. In addition, the chapter of Children and Sport Psychology discussed reasons children participate in sport but also reasons for why they drop out. Again, applying this to dance, it is very interesting to look at the numbers of those that start dance and those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gung Ho Differences Even though technology has made the World seem like a smaller place, where everyone is connected, there is one thing that will always separate us and make us different and that is are cultures. With many cultural differences between countries, it affects how we do business, our beliefs, the language we speak and much more. In the movie Gung Ho it examines the cultural difference between how the American and Japanese people do work. It shows the difference in work ethics, food, and the language deferential. One of the first cultural difference is language. • 6. Owl Essay Г…rsprГёve i skriftlig engelsk delprГёve 2 A Jackie Kay Owl The faint, almost invisible, line between child and adult, carefree and responsible, becomes more and more blurry and grey the closer you get to it. First, it is said that you reach adulthood and step into the real world, when you confirm your faith in God, but thrusting that threshold yourself, you just know you are not yet an adult. So then, you postpone it until the age of 18. By then you should be starting your career, or at least have an idea of where you are going, and more importantly you are now legally an adult, with the right to vote and take care of others, but also with the hard realities of facing up to your mistakes. She notices and analyzes, as she retells, the feelings she put Sandra through by excluding her. This also indicates the change she has made from her age of ten until her forty s; in spite her own lack of recognizing it. It is later on revealed that the same holiday where Barn and Tawny discovered the barn owl, they also found out that their parents had swapped. This collision of two worlds and confusion over splitting parents keeps coming up in Barns mind. She tells Tawny that she cannot stop thinking about that summer, and at first, one might think that this has to do with the owl that tied their friendship together. However, when looking closer you will realize that her own recent split from a man causes her lingering to this memory. It is briefly brought up by her and Tawny but not really spoken of, which is caused by Barn s conflicting emotions from her parents split. On one hand, their splitting brought her closer to her best friend and gave her something consistent in her life that she knew would never fail her. On the other, she is scared to be alone, and taking over all the responsibility for herself, becoming an adult. Therefore, she leans on Tawny to be the only trusty thing in her life. • 7. Humanities Reflection Nice discussion post this week! We both agree with the articles by Kristof and Kaleem and I enjoyed as well. The quote you have mentioned also makes a lot of sense to me too and got me thinking. I struggled with the big questions of life and still am, but I have been able to have a much better appreciation for life and have had a better time at finding that true purpose. Having a lot of information thrown at us constantly though can be challenging, I do not blame you! I agree with too that the humanities can help people to stay grounded in an ever changing informational world; I know it has for me. This is why I agree with the articles because the humanities should be taught and explored in the academic setting. Living in a digital world definitely has pros (communication, medical advances, etc.) and cons, such as social media at times like you have mentioned. It has done and will do so much for us, but it also can be too much at times. Luckily my parents raised me to appreciate life and what I have and I never was fixated on my phone or electronics . I think that is why I became an artist myself. I needed a way to express my self and spend my time. Art was the answer for me. It allowed me to find myself and express myself in a way an electronic could not for me. After reading the article Extraordinary Outsiders: The Makers Who Don t Know They re Artists this week I could really relate because art is one of my passions and when I was in high school I volunteered with the ... During this time, there was a cognitive development, development involving the ways that growth and change in intellectual capabilities influences a person s behavior, that was occurring and it s important to take note in particular to Michael s egocentrism. This is to say that he did not have an understanding that there were perspectives other than his own. He failed to realize that others may have held thoughts that were different from his. His being in the spotlight and being constant praised, definitely made him believe that he was on a pedestal, he was above lots of things. This relates to his actions as an adult in where because he was highly regarded as a child and throughout his life, he failed to realize that there are social norms he must adhere to and that there are consequences for his actions. They might fear that they will be identified as being the one whom complained and then, as a result, that the young person might be the target of a rebellious staff members emotional response. Conversely, a lot of relatives see how hard the staff are working and feel that they don t want to complain because they sympathise with the difficult job that the carers have to carry out, so they might feel like they are being ungrateful for the care their loved one receives. A relative might also not be aware that they can complain (although this is in the welcome back and checked by social services and that it has been given) or might not know what the expectation are for the care of their loved one. Education And The National Curriculum Framework While teaching in state maintained schools, it is necessary that the National Curriculum Framework is followed and children are taught the relevant skills and knowledge stated within each Programme of Study. Therefore, there must be structure to the lessons where these skills and knowledge are to be developed throughout the academic year. Previous teaching strategies required teachers to follow a rigid plan where each individual lesson was to last one hour and be taught at a certain time on a certain day (i.e. The Literacy Hour). These strategies are no longer necessary for teachers to follow anymore; it is now possible for teachers to integrate lessons using a central theme, enabling them to teach pupils in a more imaginative and original way, which will stimulate children s interest and engagement whilst still developing the necessary skills and knowledgespecified in the National Curriculum (Sewell, 2015). This integrated curriculum allows children to pursue learningin a holistic way without the restrictions often imposed by subject boundaries (Kelly, 2001). Henry Fayol was one of the main proponents of this approach, though there were many others as well. Fayol divided organizational activities into five major groups and also identified 14 principles of managementand believed that management is a skill one can learn, rather than a talent received at birth (Evans Ward, 2007). In the context of my personal experience I found that it might be interesting to compare my experiences as a student employee in the UC Berkeley libraryto some of the more applicable aspects of Fayol s principles of management. I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another of Fayol s principles had to do with authority and responsibility. In the department of the main stacks, there was a staff librarian who acted as our manager, as well as a group of students that performed supervisory tasks. In my last year or so in the library I joined this group, and was given the task of doing some of the day to day tasks that kept our department running. These included opening and closing procedures, keeping statistics of the work done by students, assigning hourly jobs, training, and so on. The important idea in this principle is that giving orders and being responsible must go together (Evans Ward, 2007). I would argue that in our department, while we were responsible for making sure the work was done as well as assigning jobs, if there was a difficult situation the supervisors were able to refer to the staff librarian for support. For example, if one student was chronically underperforming or late, we would notify the librarian. If one considered the group of supervisors plus the librarian who managed us to make up the management of the department, then in whole authority and responsibility did go together. I would also say that instead of thinking of student supervisors as not being as responsible as they could be, it would be more plausible to say that the hourly assignment of jobs and other such tasks were ones that were delegated to them by the librarian, because while he was more responsible, there was no way that he could ... This contributes to these three neurotransmitters having extended effects and causing a large amount of stimulation. Cocaine can be absorbed at different rates depending on the route of consumption. Specifically, the chewing or sucking of leaves causes gradual absorption and onset of effects. Snorting cocainecontributes to fast absorption and onset of effects. Absorption and the onset of effects occur the fastest when crack is smoked. Outcomes of consuming cocaine include feeling alert, competent, and an increase in energy. Since the withdrawal symptoms are severe individuals are likely to have the urge to relapse from their sobriety. This proves that this particular drug has the ability to significantly disrupt people s life for extended periods of time. As it relates to pregnancy, cocaine has the ability to extensively damage the fetus. This damage can be in the form of a miscarriage or torn placenta. Another issue that society faces is that cocaine sold illegally is usually only 45 80 percent pure, which can lead to other dangerous outcomes for users. However, the drug is known to be a benefit to society because it can act as a local anesthetic for surgeries that involve the nasal, laryngeal, and esophageal areas. Over the years, cocaine has negatively impacted the criminal justice system. In United States, the drug is considered to be illegal. However, it is still sold and consumed in various forms which causes individuals to be vulnerable to arrest and fines. Between 1992 and 2006 it was proven with data that African Americans are convicted due to cocaine laws 80 percent of the time. Since this data was so skewed it caused many to believe that the criminal justice system was being discriminatory towards the African American community. • 38. The Gilded Age, And The Gilded Age In science, we have been taught that for every action there is a reaction. However, this can also be applied to history. For example, after the French and Indian War, Britain had enforced the navigation laws and taxes in order to pay for the war debt. This had caused a huge reaction from the colonies from as simple as boycotting British goods all the way to declaring their independence in 1776. Individuals can also help bring forth these dramatic changes such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. who help fought for civil rights. Thus, throughout the United States history, the nation has gone through a variety of changes. Although presidents have played a significant role in the nation s changes, many individuals have also brought changes to the nation s economy, government, and society. In addition to heroes like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr, another individual includes Upton Sinclairand his contribution to consumer protection. The Gilded Age, a phrase coined by Mark Twain, was used to describe the government and its corruption. Like its name, the nation looked glamorous from the outside, but was full of corruption and political scandals on the inside such as the Credit Mobilier scandal and Boss Tweed scandal. Government at this time did little to help the nation, for its own congressmen were involved in the mix of these corruptions. The government supported laissez faire, which believed that the government should not regulate business and Social Darwinism survival of the fittest. As a result, this had led to the suppression of individual rights, for there were no laws to limit the power of monopolies. Therefore, the Gilded Age became known as corrupt, for the government had favored big businesses and focused less on the working class. However, this would all change during the Progressive Era. In contrast of the Gilded Age, the Progressive Era was a response to the problems that were created by the Gilded Age. Unlike the Gilded Age, the Progressive Era did not support laissez faire and rejected the idea of Social Darwinism. It is important to address why they are perceived to be harmful, if they actually are, and how they can be improved for the future, or if they should be eliminated. The use of pipelines date back as far as 500BC in China. In those times, the pipelines were made of bamboo, used to separate the salt from the sea water. The United States did not adopt these until much later. Edwin L. Drake drilled his first commercial oil well in the United States near the city Titusville in Pennsylvania; the oil which they nicknamed rock oil was then used as a less expensive alternative to whale oil. It was used as lubricant and as fuel for lamps. It was not long after this that it was realized they would need a more cost effective way of transporting the oil from place to place. At the time, Teamsters were using horses and wagons to get the oil to the markets; one barrel going five miles costed more than the entire rail charged to go to New York City. For that reason, the pipeline was created. The first pipelines were nothing special; they were short and sometimes made of wood. With their growing popularity into the 1860s, the quality control followed over the pipe manufacturing, switching from wrought iron to steal. (Pipeline 101, n.d.) Coming into the twenty first century, the pipeline has still been playing a key role in the oil industry. Given, its importance to the oil industry it is important to understand how ... George Frederickson in the 1960s after the Standing Panel on Social Equity in Governance was created by the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) (Johnson, 2012). Social equity is the fourth pillar of public administration by the NAPA (Norman Major, 2011). According to the panel their definition of social equity is fair, just and equitable management of all institutions serving the public directly or by contract (Johnson, 2012). In Wooldridge, Gooden (2009) they state that the idea of social equity in public administration is inseparably linked to John Rawlss A Theory of Justice(1971). Rawls developed the principle of justice as fairness. Fairness is justice would mean that people have equal rights to basic liberty (Rawls, 1971). To be discussed will be comparison and differences between many author overtime that has touch social equity regarding its definition, challenges along with the overall conclusion. • 46. Analyzing The Consumers Generating Inter Harmonic Frequencies Alexander B. Nassif and Jing Yong [7] have proposed a method to identify the consumers generating inter harmonic frequencies. The inter harmonics can be measured by means of Impedance based approach applied at the metering point. The main idea is that, the inter harmonic impedance of the system is much smaller than that of an inter harmonic generating load. This method can identify the source of each inter harmonic component without having to rely solely on the active power measurement and requires only an approximate value for the inter harmonic impedance measured at the metering point. As per references [2], [6], [7], [9] any device with nonlinear characteristics which derive their input power from a sinusoidal electrical system may be responsible for injecting harmonic currents voltages into the electrical system [2, 6, 7, 9 ].
