William Shakespeare and Macbeth
The Fall of Man
The ancient Greek notion of tragedy concerned the fall of a great man, such as a king, from a position
of superiority to a position of humility on account of his ambitious pride, or hubris. To the Greeks,
such arrogance in human behavior was punishable by terrible vengeance. The tragic hero was to be
pitied in his fallen plight but not necessarily forgiven: Greek tragedy frequently has a bleak outcome.
Christian drama, on the other hand, always offers a ray of hope; hence, Macbeth ends with the
coronation of Malcolm, a new leader who exhibits all the correct virtues for a king.
Macbeth exhibits elements that reflect the greatest Christian tragedy of all: the Fall of Man. In the
Genesis story, it is the weakness of Adam, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare s Macbeth remains one of his most popular plays, both for classroom study and
performance, and with good reason. Here we have the playwright s shortest play, but arguably his
most intense, in terms both of its action and its portrayal of human relationships. The butcher and his
fiend like queen are among the most attractive villains in stage history, and the profound psychology
with which Shakespeare imbues them is deliciously pleasurable for theater audience and student alike.
Macbeth was a real king of eleventh century Scotland, whose history Shakespeare had read in several
sources, principally theChronicles of Holinshed, to which he referred for many of his other historical
dramas. In Holinshed s account, Banquo and Macbeth combine to kill King Duncan after winning his
favor in a battle against the Danes. The original story is full of wonderful details that show the
cunning of the Scots and Macbeth, who slaughtered an entire Danish army not by brute force, but by
cunning: first mixing a sleeping potion and sending it, like the Trojan horse, as a gift to the enemy
army. Once they were asleep, Macbeth was able to kill them easily. Presumably from this incident,
Shakespeare derived his idea of having Lady Macbeth administer a sleeping potion to the guards of
King Duncan s chamber.
In Holinshed s account, however, although we learn that Macbeth s wife is ambitious to become
queen, Lady Macbeth does not feature as an accomplice. Instead, Banquo joins

Analyzing Sebastian Arredondo s Performance
This is a critique of Sebastian Arredondo s performance on the evening of Monday November 28,
2016 which took place in Recital Hall in Merrill Hall of the Jacob s School of Music. Arredondo
performed three pieces. His first piece was Domenico Scarlatti s Sonata in A Major, K.208 followed
by his Sonata in D Major, K.492. His next piece was Maurice Ravel s Valses nobles et sentimentales
(1911) which contains 8 movements; Modere Tres franc, Assez lent, Modere, Assez anime, Presque
lent, Vif, Moins vif, and Epilogue: Lent. The last piece Arredondo performed was Franz Liszt s Sonata
in B Minor, S.178. Scarlatti lived from 1685 1757 and the majority of his pieces were published after
his death. Maurice Raval lived from 1875 1937 and his piece Valses nobles et sentimentales was
published for piano in 1911. Franz Liszt lived from 1811 1886 and his Sonata in B Minor, S.178 was
published in 1854.

My main problems were with things out of his control. I found myself frustrated and annoyed by the
audience who for the majority of the performance either left while he was in the middle of the piece or
entered the auditorium during a song. To make matters worse, it was pouring outside so at one point in
Liszt s Sonata in B Minor, it was a really quiet part of the piece and one person entered and his shoes
squeaked with every step he took. And he didn t even just take a seat in the back row, he walked about
five rows in before he took a seat. I felt bad for Arredondo but he handled it like a pro because he didn
t let it phase him. Another aspect of the performance, I didn t particular care for is how after every
piece, the performer will leave the stage and then come back out. I understand why they do it and that
it s tradition but I found it a little strange. The performance part however, I really didn t have any
complaints. I was entertained and he held my attention for the whole

Essay on Comparison between Jan van Eyck and Fra Angelico
The Renaissance in Western Europe brought a rebirth to the arts. No longer was the church the only
accredited patron for the arts. Instead, a wealthy middle class arose as patrons and were able to
purchase artist s works. Although many pieces still had religious themes, the styles, freedom of
creativity, and less reserved pieces were created. The Renaissance was not only confined to Italy,
although it is often mistaken as the birthplace of the movement. All over Western Europe artwork
flourished. Artists from the north came to Italy to study the classical arts and the renowned Italian
Renaissance artists. Many of the same themes and subject matters were depicted throughout Western
Europe. One such subject matter, the Annunciation, was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Italians may not have had detailed frescos and vivid colors; however they were the leaders in
creating a harmonious scale between the landscape and the objects or figures that adorned it. They
developed a focused on perspective and made their art a science. They used mathematical
measurements and thus the piece was given a great deal of depth and realism. The fresco appears to be
an extended recessed space in the room. In Angelico s piece, linear perspective is created by the
placement and angles of the walls. The edge of the porch, the base of the first column and the lines of
the bench establish a linear perspective. Italian painters also focused on the studying of classical art
and architecture. In Angelico s piece, the arches supported by the stance of the ionic columns show the
interest and study that the Italians adapted into their work. The Northern Renaissance painters
eventually incorporated perspective in their work. Van Eyck used intuitive perspective, making objects
appear smaller and closer together as they are placed further in the distance to create the feeling of
depth in his piece.
Iconography is more prevalent in the Northern Renaissance artwork compared to the Italian
Renaissance artwork. Upon first glance, there are two distinct and obvious similarities between the
two works. The most noticeable is how Mary is wearing blue and is very similarly depicted. Just like
white, the color blue is thought to be the symbol of purity and

Color as Metaphor in Film What Dreams May Come
Looking at landscape art, especially when painted by one of the masters, many have undoubtedly
pondered: what would it be like to live there? Shapes and attention to detail are, of course, important
in a painting. However, it is color that draws the eye and inspires the heart. Oscar Wilde, an Irish poet
and dramatist, spoke well of this when he noted that, Mere color, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied
with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways. (qtd in color ) . Vincent Ward
had a similar understanding of this impact when, in 1998, he directed the movie What Dreams May
Come. Looking at this film, one can easily imagine being inside a living painting. The use of color to
emphasize the emotional state of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using this deeper shade highlights the intensity of her loss and confusion without over powering the
scene. As the days and weeks pass by, Annie tries to return to a normal life. However, with the other
half of her soul gone, she finds this to daunting of a task. Sitting at her vanity, wearing a very pale
lavender gown, she chooses to end her life. She places several crushed pills into a bowl of pudding,
and after eating it, she waits to die. The lightness of purple used here shows that it is not her will that
is weak; it is the weakness of her connection with Chris that drives her to make this fatal choice. After
learning of Annie s suicide and the self induced hell she will face, Chris makes the decision to enter
hell, find Annie, and return with her to heaven. By using their connection as a sort of homing device,
Chris descends ever deeper in to the pit of despair. He finds himself falling through an actual sea of
faces where, after landing on the floor of hell s basement, locates what looks like a dilapidated version
of his and Annie s house. Everything that can be seen in this purgatory looks as if the color has been
drained by a leech. Black, gray, dirty yellows and sepia like tones abound in all directions, except for a
single tree, which stands in front of the door to the house. This one tree, standing in defiance of the
dreary world around it,

Essay about The Horror that Are Child Soldiers
All around the world, especially in third world countries, children are being forced to fight in wars and
conflicts that they did not start, and they do not need to fight in. Today, it is estimated that over
300,000 children are enlisted in armies and militias around the world (Kaplan). These children are
called child soldiers. A child soldier is classified as a person enlisted in an army or militia that is under
the age of eighteen. (11 Facts). They are recruited into armies for many different reasons and used for
many different tasks. There are a number of countries that children are forced to fight in such as
Columbia, Myanmar, Iraq, and many more (11 Facts/Kaplan). Children should not be forced to be
soldiers in war because it puts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children taken into these armies are forced to watch despicable things happen to people they know or
do not know, but they know that they are human and most likely innocent (Stolen Kids). For example,
an eleven year old boy in Myanmar was forced to watch as mothers were killed. Afterwards, some of
the soldiers smashed their babies heads on rocks and killed them (Stolen Kids). Not only are children
forced to watch these terrible things happen, they are forced to commit wretched crimes as well. A
twelve year old Columbian girl was held at gunpoint and told to kill one of her friends. She eventually
did, but closed her eyes and she had to bury the body afterwards (Stolen Kids). She was told that she
was not allowed to cry while doing this as well as that this murder was the first of many, and that not
crying is crucial (Stolen Kids). This is one of many crimes that children are forced to commit while in
service to armies and militias. The things that child soldiers are forced to do lead to a lot of
psychological trauma. When an organization called War Child interviewed children they had rescued,
up to 90% admitted that they needed psychological help and support to cope with what they had seen
and done. A study has shown that children who are rescued often have nightmares, sadness, recurring
violent images, and intrusive thoughts. The children who were forced to commit terrible

Asymmetricistic Impact On Graphic Design
THE IMPACT OF THE INTERNATIONAL TYPOGRAPHIC STYLE ON WEB DESIGN
INTRODUCTION The International Typographic Style, or Swiss Style, invokes to the graphic design
movement that emerged in Switzerland during the 1950s, after the Second World War, in a particular
social, economical and industrial context.
Through emphasizing clarity of information, the International Style is characterized by a range of
specific visual hallmarks. This movement is especially marked by the creation and use of grids and
sans serif typefaces.
Admired for its simple, clean, factual, neutral and highly mathematical structured approach to
organizing and presenting information, it became a new revolution in the world of graphic design and
especially in web design. Indeed, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It serves as a framework for designers to organize their information and make it clear. Inspired by the
Constructivism approach, Swiss designers preferred asymmetrical layouts and used the grid as an
organization tool to provide an overall orderly and unified structure.
The grid serves as an armature on which designers can organize text and images in a rational, easy to
absorb manner.
The use of photography is another important characteristic of this movement. Swiss designers were
influenced by the modernist idea in which photography was a better tool to show reality than drawings
and illustrations.
Keeping white spaces is essential for Swiss designers because it helps to perceive the different groups
of the content. In a format, the right amount of white spaces at the good places can create a first good
impression and can motivate visitors to read through the web page. So, white spaces are important for
a good design and the Swiss style design lays a lot of emphasis on it. This style promotes the use of
big white spaces between texts to differentiate them and to give a boost to the whole design. It also
suggests the use of white spaces between images to improve the look of the

organizations, volunteering is the only way that they are able to continue. By offering time to help
volunteers are often helping maintain lives because they are helping others who can not help

Lyme Disease Assignment
For this assignment, I interviewed a close friend, Dana Rivard. Dana is also a first year student; she is
from Massachusetts and majoring in Health Sciences. In a friendly conversation, a few weeks ago she
mentioned having Lyme disease. I grew up in a rural part of Indiana so my childhood consisted of
playing outside almost everyday. My front yard is full of trees, and because I live in a very forested
area right across from a corn field, these trees often have ticks. My parents always warned us to be
cautious of ticks by using insect repellant and making sure we were wearing long clothing if we were
going to be close to the trees. Our dogs would often get a tick here or there that my parents would
have to pull off, but only once or twice do I remember one of my siblings or cousins getting a tick on
them. My parents and grandparents always warned us about Lyme disease, because it was such a
prevalent topic in Indiana. As a child, it seemed as if my parents were overreacting, which is why it
was so interesting to see that Dana had gotten Lyme disease.
According to the CDC, Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and is
transmitted to humans through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks. Typical symptoms include fever,
headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans. Lyme ... Show more content

Projects are then scored and prioritized based on the criteria. Once projects are prioritized and those
priorities are reviewed and discussed, the department can evaluate the results to determine funding and
resource allocation for the higher priority projects.
A final step involves assessing how and when (or if) to fund the lower priority projects in the future
if/when more resources become available.
Creating and using a prioritization matrix involves five simple steps:
1. Determine your criteria and rating scale.
There are two components involved in rating the projects on your ¡§to do¡¨ list: criteria for assessing
importance, and a rating scale.
The first step is to determine the factors you will use to assess the importance of each project. Choose
factors that will clearly differentiate important from unimportant projects ¡V these are your criteria. A
group of 6 12 criteria is typical. Example criteria might include whether or not the project is a
mandate, the value it brings to the customer, etc.
Then, for each of your criteria, establish a rating scale to use in assessing how well a particular project
satisfies that criteria. To ensure consistent use of the rating scale, provide some details to define how
the criteria should be applied. The following table provides some examples:
Example Criteria Description Rating Scale (1 9)

Bias In The Media s Twist Story
Half of the things from modern media that people have heard has probably been twisted in some way.
I believe that the media does twist stories, to make things sound different. There are plenty of
examples where the media will make a situation sound different, show bias towards one person, or lie
and gives false facts. The media does this a lot more than often than you think, and it can affect a
humongous area.
Surprisingly often, the media will change a story to make someone or something sound worse. For my
first example, a newspaper makes Philip s fight against his suspension sound worse (AVI 127.) The
media is making Philip s situation sound like a colossal problem, when it s actually just a minor thing.
The media is making Miss Narwin sound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A newspaper company lies about Philip s story, and gives out false facts (AVI 118.) This company is
lying, and completely changing the story, making it more interesting, but also false. The media gives
out false facts, and someone uses them in a school board meeting (AVI 125.) This shows how the
media giving out false facts, does end up tricking people who eventually might end up spreading the
false facts. News lies about the location of a kind story (Sigmund Fraud 12.) Here, there is a story that
is broadcasted across the entire world but is considered local. This is showing that the media is
twisting a story to make it seem like it is something within their community, even if it was across the
world. Media lies to help Stalin hide something dangerous (John Hayward 2 3.) In this example, the
media was twisting a story some decades ago, to make a situation seem like everything was okay.
Helping Stalin changed the entire course of history. News outlets lie about a young boy named Jimmy
(John Hayward 7 9.) In Washington D.C. the news created a fake story about a little boy named
Jimmy, who was an 8 year old heroin addict. The media lies, and creates a fake story about this boy
just to have something interesting to offer. Media lies, saying fake news is the reason Hillary lost
(Chris Pandolfo 37 38.) The media lies, saying that they believe that Hillary Clinton lost just because
of fake news. They are twisting the whole story about Clinton s campaign, which had a lot of big
things about her that were

How Inquiry Is The Process That Governs How Students Learn...
Inquiry is the process that governs how students learn within the contents of science education. The
textbook defined inquiry as the process that students should use to learn science (Martin, Sexton,
Franklin, Gerlovich, McElory 2009). They should be able to ask questions, use their questions to plan
and conduct a scientific investigation, use appropriate science tools and scientific techniques, evaluate
evidence and use it logically to construct several alternative explanations, and communicate their
conclusions scientifically (Martin, et. Al., 2009). In essence, students should grasp the knowledge that
is taught in science class, as well as share the finding in an educated manner with others. As we
examine inquiry, we will discuss what research says about inquiry, determine how inquiry looks inside
the classroom setting, discuss challenges that may arise teachers use inquiry based teaching in the
classroom setting, and share a personal reflection on the benefits of inquiry teaching and learning
based on the research presented. Inquiry is a multifaceted activity that involves making observations,
posing questions; examining books and other sources of information to see what is already known
(Villa Beptiste, 2014). This process uses tools to gather, analyze, and interpret data, proposing
answers, explanations, and predictions; and communicating the results (Villa Baptiste, 2014).
Therefore, it is widely accepted, as attested by the National Science Standards, that

the way women are treated by men in the 1st and 2nd stanza and then provides examples of powerful
women in history where violence was a major component of their life. The last stanza describes a
sexual experience with one of his past partners. The 1st stanza Kunitz discusses the cruelty that men

Results The Mediterranean diet (MeDi) has been researched for the potential to reduce cognitive
decline and dementia (Samieri, Okereke, Devore, Grodstein, 2013). Long term MeDi adherence was
examined with 16,058 women to see if there was a link between MeDi and cognitive decline.
Cognitive assessments were completed every 2 years using a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ)
and phone calls to test cognition in participating subjects (90% turnout rate). The phone tests consisted
of, Telephone Interview for Cognitive Status (TICS), immediate and delayed recall of the East Boston
Memory test (EBMT), delayed recall of the TICS 10 word list, category fluency, and digit span

MeDi adherence was measured on a point system using a survey method and 24 hour recall.
Polyunsaturated fatty acids, Omega 3 and Omega 6, associated with high intake of antioxidants could
influence Cardiovascular Disease and decrease of Alzheimer s Disease (Feart et al., 2011). Of the
1416 subjects with plasma fatty acid assessment, 1105 had a full dietary assessment completed (Feart
et al., 2011). 55 participants with dementia were excluded from the study. MeDi adherence was
characterized by higher intake of vegetables, fruits, legumes, cereals, fish and lower intake of meat
and dairy products (Feart et al., 2011). The studies of MeDi adherence in this study showed a
protective effect of cognitive function. Further investigation should be completed to further prove this
study (Feart et al.,

Terrorism And Its Effects On The United States
Externally, states take into account any and all threats existing in their environment that may bring
about conflict to its right to rule. As states spend resources and time parcipaniting in competing with
its outside rivals in military and economically ways to neutralize the threats to its legitimacy. On the
other hand, how about the internal threats to the state legitimacy. With that being the case, is it
possible for a state to be as successful with neutralizing threats to its legitimacy imposed by its people,
in the same way as its external threats? To answer this question, yes it is possible. Generally using
violence is seen as the primary tool in achieving the goal of overthrowing the state, in the traditional
forms of armed guerillas or violent protesters rioting and looting. In this situation, the response from
the state consist of confronting the protesters with the army and police as a means of overwhelming
the violence with using violence upon the people and crushing the uprising. This practices has been
used for hundreds of years by states to protect their claim of legitimacy and is still today the ideal
thinking for handling protest.
However, now things have changed in the past couple decades. As a trend of revolutions lunched by
massive amounts of unarmed people protesting and taking part in nonviolent civil disobeys against the
state has become very successful. With this in mind, states face a new real challenged to their
legitimacy, as now the ways in which

What Castles Were Built During The Middle Ages
Castles were built during the Middle Ages for the purpose of protection from foreign invaders. In
Britain, many castles were built along the borders in order to stop raids from the Welsh and the Scots.
By building castles along the borders, the British could also launch a series of raids in return. A castle
also demonstrated a lord s power over a particular land. If invaders had taken over a castle, they could
use it to help control the land that they had taken. A castle was a home for a lord and his family. It was
a defensible place where a lord could defend himself against his enemies like his rival lords. A castle
was a safe place where a lord and his knights could return to. The Normans successfully conquered
Britain in 1066. The leader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This caused the need for castle designs to be changed. The first castles were mounds of earths which
were built for defence as enemies had difficulties climbing over them. The Normans then developed
the Motte and Bailey castle designs. A Motte was a large mound of earth, and a Bailey was the
flattened land beside the mound. [4] Motte and Bailey castles took a small amount of time to build and
it was very hard to attack. Castle architects developed a way to further strengthen the Motte and
Bailey Castle which was building a shell keep a thin ring of stone around the buildings on top of the
castle Motte. [4] Castle architects then constructed a castle made from stone. Stone was much harder
to be stormed by attackers and it was protected against fire. A new style of constructing castles
developed which was the gothic style. Gothic castles were much more imposing and comfortable to
live in. In 1270, concentric castles were then developed. They had thicker outer walls and rings of
extra outer walls. [4] Concentric castles were very expensive stone castles. In Northern Wales, Edward
I built some concentric castles. After the development of cannons, castle walls were easily
destroyable. The nobles then decided to turn the castles into imposing grand

Why Did Imperialism Cause Ww1
After the assassination of the Archduke of Austria Franz Ferdinand, the world become complete cause
and broke into a world war. There are eight main reasons that we say caused the War to End all Wars.
Imperialism is said to have been a huge in the cause of the first world war. Imperialism is where a
country expands its overall power and control through their military and Gun Boat Diplomacy.
Gunboat Diplomacy or also known as big stick Diplomacy is a country uses its strong military to fight
or threaten another country. With many European countries strengthening their militaries, they feared
imperialism and started to to form alliances with other countries that they trusted. I will talk more
about these alliances later because they played ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once industrialization hit there were factories all across Europe. This allowed country to mass
produce weapons like never before. The new machinery was faster than ever seen before. With
country s pump out weapons at such a fast speed, they were able to design all sorts of new types of
weapons that had never been seen on the battlefield like tanks and chemical warfare. With nations
arming so fast, it led it an arms race which led to countries building large standing armies. Like I
mentioned early, countries began to fear imperialism and being taken over by another country. So they
began to form trade/military alliances. These alliances were basically were two countries would agree
to help one another if the other was attacked. In some of the Alliances the other country had no choice
to but to declare war on the country that attacked their allie. These alliances played a very large part
into making a true world war. With the fear of being taken over, European countries began to form
Large standing armies, Here are some statistics to show how big they were. Russia had 4.4 million
men, France had 3.5 million men, Austria Hungary had 3 million men, and Germany had 8.5 million
men. Even though these countries had these large militaries they did not want to use them. It is a very
popular saying to say that that the European Nations were dragged into the war kicking and

The Emergence of Appalachian Stereotypes in 19th Century...
In the world of Appalachia, stereotypes are abundant. There are stories told of mountaineers as lazy,
bewildered, backward, and yet happy and complacent people. Mountain women are seen as diligent,
strong, hard willed, and overall sturdy and weathered, bearing the burden of their male counterparts.
These ideas of mountain life did not come out of thin air; they are the direct product of sensational
nineteenth century media including print journalism and illustrative art that has continuously mislead
and wrongfully represented the people of Appalachia. These stories, written and told by outsiders,
served very little purpose to Appalachian natives other than means of humiliation and degradation.
They served mostly to convince readers of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These proliferated the idea of unkempt and unruly natured people, pastoral, lazy and at the same time
content to remain in a disparagingly hostile existence. These writers and illustrators were often men
who traveled through the mountain regions and spent time with the people there (McNeil, 59). They
were frequently invited to stay with families who were honored to have them as guests, and treated to
every hospitality an Appalachian family could afford. When James Lane Allen, who was a teacher in
Lexington KY for twelve years, decided to change careers in 1885, traveled to New York to become a
writer, while there he was told to find a definite field and explore it for literacy materials. (McNeal,
59) Deciding to return to Kentucky, Allen began publishing his works in magazines in 1886, his work
primarily focusing on Kentucky as two distinct regions, the civilized Bluegrass Region and the rough
Cumberland Mountains. In James Lane Allen s Through Cumberland Gap on Horseback, the mention
is made to the beauty of the land and that the climate was just the same but that traveling to the
mountain region was not only difficult as they had to take a train then a wagon ride, followed by a trek
on horseback, but a lengthy process. Among the experiences recorded Allen describes the meeting of
several locals and this is where his responsibility for Appalachian

First Person Narrative
On March 4th, 2005 I sat in Mrs. Musser s first grade class. I talked with my friend Olivia Thacker,
like I did everyday. We talked about boys; how smelly they were and how we would never have
boyfriends. We talked about our sisters who were also friends, and we talked about our parents.
However, that year we mostly talked about my mother. Around 2:45, my sister, Lauren and I, would
walk to the farthest end of the school. That end of the school was filled with the bigger kids and I was
always scared to walk on that side. My sister who was in second grade at the time, always walked with
me, so I had some protection. Anyways, we walked out the doors to the student car rider pick up line.

still to this day the biggest lie she has ever told. We walked up to the big glass hospital doors, and
straight through them to the elevator. I waited and waited for what seemed forever until the big silver
doors opened, and my dad showed us which way to go. We walked past room after room listening to
the crying and sometimes laughter. Finally, we got to the right room and we walked in. There sat my
mother on a hospital bed. She didn t seem hurt or in pain, but they said it was happening fast. At one
point my mother s father (Poppy) took us down to the cafe, and all I remember is that hospitals have
very good spaghetti. My Poppy got a phone call and all of the sudden we were on the move, going
through the halls like there was a fire we were trying to escape from. When we got back to my mother
s hospital room, everyone looked so upset; their faces, eyes and cheeks were red and

Effects Of Abolish Minimum Wage
Abolish Minimum Wage
According to the Minimum Wage Review 2015, conducted by the Ministry of Business, Innovation
and Employment (MBIE), when the minimum wage was set at $14.75, 74,900 people were impacted.
The same study showed that by increasing the minimum wage by only 5.1% to $15.25 an additional
77,800 people would be affected and it would cost the Government $22.82million dollars annually.
According to the 2016 Minimum Wage Review, again conducted by MBIE, after the minimum wage
was set to $15.25, if they were to increase the minimum wage to $19.25 (still below the recommended
living wage of $20.20) approximately 28,000 people would lose their jobs and there would be an
increased cost of approximately $543.55million dollars annually.
While we all know that a higher than minimum wage income would go a long way towards raisin
economic standards of areas where minimum wage jobs are prevalent, a higher minimum wage could
also have adverse effects as well (Laffer, 2016). For employees, minimum wage work translates into
income, standard of living, education and taxes which make up our entire economy (Laffer, 2016). For
employers, minimum wage creates competitive pressures and productivity, taxes and living standards
for investors, suppliers and employers themselves (Laffer, 2016). Minimum wage reduces job growth
over several years and for every 10% increase there is a 1 2% reduction in low skilled employment
(Neumark, 2015). However, it s not just employers and employees

Pglo Transformation Lab Report
Tiffany O Connor November 9th, 2017 Plasmid Transformation
Purpose: Plasmid transformation is the process of transferring foreign exogenous DNA into a host cell
to change its phenotype.
Theory and Background: Plasma transformation can occur naturally when a cell alters its genetics by
taking in DNA from its environment. Genetic transformation can also be induced in a laboratory
setting, called artificial transformation. Artificial transformation is accomplished by choosing a
competent bacterium and introducing a plasmid.
E. Coli is the bacteria used in this lab. The pGLO plasmid is being introduced. This plasmid contains

This is called Heat Shocking , a rapid increase in heat opens pores on the cell membrane and propels
the DNA into the cell. Immediately following, place the foam rack with the test tubes back on ice and
incubate for two minutes. This incubation time allows the ampicillin resistant gene to start replicating.
After two minutes remove the tubes from the ice. Using a sterile pipet add 250 ul of LB nutrient to
each test tube. The LB nutrient provides the cell necessary nutrients needed for the cell to reproduce.
Incubate the tubes for 10 minutes at room temperature.
Lastly, tap each test tube with your finer to mix the contents. Using a sterile pipet put half of the
suspension from the P on to the LB plate and the other half of the suspension on to the LB/A plate.
Using a sterile cotton swab, spread the suspension evenly around the surface of both plates. Now put
half of the suspension from the +P tube onto the LB/AMP plate and the other half of the +P
suspension on to the LB/AMP/ARA plate. Using a new sterile cotton swab, spread the suspension

William Blake Poet
William Blake is one of the most renowned poets in the history of English literature. Born to the
owners of a hosiery shop on Broad Street in the center of London in 1757, William Blake developed
into a toddler of extraordinary imagination. While only a young boy (around the age of four), he spoke
to his parents of seeing angels playing amongst him, encountering visions of heaven and hell
throughout London and the nearby countryside, and spotting God keeping a close eye on him during
tasks and chores. It was not long before the young Blake began to stencil out the visions from his
imagination, and as an eleven year old, he enlisted in Pars Drawing School to learn the art of printing
and plaster casting. Soon thereafter, Blake began to apprentice under London artist James Basire, and
as a fourteen year old, he was assigned to drawing monuments in Westminster Abbey, which led to a
lifelong admiration for Gothic art and religious illustration. While working with Basire, Blake
befriended contemporary apprentice James Parker. Parker and Blake would later become partners in a
jointly owned print shop on Broad Street, right next door to the Blake hosiery shop and household, a
partnership that only lasted one year (1784 85). One must recall the historical context of Blake s
development from a young artist to a poet in his mid twenties. In 1775, America began a revolution of
independence from England, igniting tense controversy in London, and the young artist witnessed an

Is Iraq holistically a better nation after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein?
IRAQ DURING SADDAM S REIGN (1989)
SOCIALLY, following the war with Iran in 1988, Iraq was ranked 50 in the 1990 UNDP Human
Development Index, which measures national success in education, GDP, and health. Iraq was nearing
the top of the middle range of countries in regard to the implementation of basic social services and
infrastructure. However, under Saddam s rule, the prosecution of Shiites and Kuwaitis was a normal
occurrence. Called by some a genocide, the period of murder, terror, and persecution faced by these
groups was the foundation for a long lasting unrest within the hearts and minds of Iraqi citizens. The
rest of the Iraqi citizens, however, lived normal, comfortable lives. In the late 20th century, many
traveled from afar to utilize and learn from Iraq s intricate network of hospitals and social centers
regarded as the best in the region. (CIA 2) However, constant war drained Iraq s wealth and decimated
its people. In the Iraq Iran War, Saddam Hussein unwillingly forced Iraq into a disastrous attempt to
overthrow the Islamist government in Iran. When the dust settled, over 200,000 Iraqis were dead, and
more than twice this number were wounded. Iraq s increasing debt, nearing about 75 Billion, soon had

Christine Castel Biography
Christine took up writing so she could support her family. Her father, Tommaso Di Benvenuto di
Pizzano, was an astrologer to Charles the Fifth, the king at the time. He was respected greatly by
Charles the Fifth. Christine was married at fifteen to Etienne du Castel. This was arranged, but they
loved each other anyways. Etienne was a scholar, a nobleman, and the Duke of Guyenne. He was part
of the French court, and supported Christine completely on her writing interests. Etienne and Christine
had three children together, including Jean de Castel, who was born in 1384 and lived for eighty eight
years. That is the only known child. One fateful day, Charles the fifth died, and Christine s father lost
his job. Not long after, Tommaso got sick and finally died. Just a few months later, Christine s
husband, Etienne, got the bubonic plague and died. Christine was so devastated she wished she could
just die. The thing was, Christine had to take care of her family or else they would starve to death. She

those poems were about Christine s long lost love, Etienne, but that was before she realized how badly
women were being treated. Remember, these were the Middle Ages; women weren t even able to work
back then. Women also (usually) had no form of education. Women were even considered their
husband s property. Christine started to criticize women s lack of rights in her works. She believed
strongly in gender equality and that women were strong, heroic, and brave. Other than gender equality
and love poems, she also wrote biographies and autobiographies. This includes a biography about
Charles the Fifth, which was very flattering and pleasing, and her autobiography, which talks about
her thoughts on women. This was written to cease the continued debate about women. Christine was

  • 2. William Shakespeare and Macbeth The Fall of Man The ancient Greek notion of tragedy concerned the fall of a great man, such as a king, from a position of superiority to a position of humility on account of his ambitious pride, or hubris. To the Greeks, such arrogance in human behavior was punishable by terrible vengeance. The tragic hero was to be pitied in his fallen plight but not necessarily forgiven: Greek tragedy frequently has a bleak outcome. Christian drama, on the other hand, always offers a ray of hope; hence, Macbeth ends with the coronation of Malcolm, a new leader who exhibits all the correct virtues for a king. Macbeth exhibits elements that reflect the greatest Christian tragedy of all: the Fall of Man. In the Genesis story, it is the weakness of Adam, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shakespeare s Macbeth remains one of his most popular plays, both for classroom study and performance, and with good reason. Here we have the playwright s shortest play, but arguably his most intense, in terms both of its action and its portrayal of human relationships. The butcher and his fiend like queen are among the most attractive villains in stage history, and the profound psychology with which Shakespeare imbues them is deliciously pleasurable for theater audience and student alike. Macbeth was a real king of eleventh century Scotland, whose history Shakespeare had read in several sources, principally theChronicles of Holinshed, to which he referred for many of his other historical dramas. In Holinshed s account, Banquo and Macbeth combine to kill King Duncan after winning his favor in a battle against the Danes. The original story is full of wonderful details that show the cunning of the Scots and Macbeth, who slaughtered an entire Danish army not by brute force, but by cunning: first mixing a sleeping potion and sending it, like the Trojan horse, as a gift to the enemy army. Once they were asleep, Macbeth was able to kill them easily. Presumably from this incident, Shakespeare derived his idea of having Lady Macbeth administer a sleeping potion to the guards of King Duncan s chamber. In Holinshed s account, however, although we learn that Macbeth s wife is ambitious to become queen, Lady Macbeth does not feature as an accomplice. Instead, Banquo joins ... • 3. Analyzing Sebastian Arredondo s Performance This is a critique of Sebastian Arredondo s performance on the evening of Monday November 28, 2016 which took place in Recital Hall in Merrill Hall of the Jacob s School of Music. Arredondo performed three pieces. His first piece was Domenico Scarlatti s Sonata in A Major, K.208 followed by his Sonata in D Major, K.492. His next piece was Maurice Ravel s Valses nobles et sentimentales (1911) which contains 8 movements; Modere Tres franc, Assez lent, Modere, Assez anime, Presque lent, Vif, Moins vif, and Epilogue: Lent. The last piece Arredondo performed was Franz Liszt s Sonata in B Minor, S.178. Scarlatti lived from 1685 1757 and the majority of his pieces were published after his death. Maurice Raval lived from 1875 1937 and his piece Valses nobles et sentimentales was published for piano in 1911. Franz Liszt lived from 1811 1886 and his Sonata in B Minor, S.178 was published in 1854. I thought Arredondo did a great job of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My main problems were with things out of his control. I found myself frustrated and annoyed by the audience who for the majority of the performance either left while he was in the middle of the piece or entered the auditorium during a song. To make matters worse, it was pouring outside so at one point in Liszt s Sonata in B Minor, it was a really quiet part of the piece and one person entered and his shoes squeaked with every step he took. And he didn t even just take a seat in the back row, he walked about five rows in before he took a seat. I felt bad for Arredondo but he handled it like a pro because he didn t let it phase him. Another aspect of the performance, I didn t particular care for is how after every piece, the performer will leave the stage and then come back out. I understand why they do it and that it s tradition but I found it a little strange. The performance part however, I really didn t have any complaints. I was entertained and he held my attention for the whole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay on Comparison between Jan van Eyck and Fra Angelico The Renaissance in Western Europe brought a rebirth to the arts. No longer was the church the only accredited patron for the arts. Instead, a wealthy middle class arose as patrons and were able to purchase artist s works. Although many pieces still had religious themes, the styles, freedom of creativity, and less reserved pieces were created. The Renaissance was not only confined to Italy, although it is often mistaken as the birthplace of the movement. All over Western Europe artwork flourished. Artists from the north came to Italy to study the classical arts and the renowned Italian Renaissance artists. Many of the same themes and subject matters were depicted throughout Western Europe. One such subject matter, the Annunciation, was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Italians may not have had detailed frescos and vivid colors; however they were the leaders in creating a harmonious scale between the landscape and the objects or figures that adorned it. They developed a focused on perspective and made their art a science. They used mathematical measurements and thus the piece was given a great deal of depth and realism. The fresco appears to be an extended recessed space in the room. In Angelico s piece, linear perspective is created by the placement and angles of the walls. The edge of the porch, the base of the first column and the lines of the bench establish a linear perspective. Italian painters also focused on the studying of classical art and architecture. In Angelico s piece, the arches supported by the stance of the ionic columns show the interest and study that the Italians adapted into their work. The Northern Renaissance painters eventually incorporated perspective in their work. Van Eyck used intuitive perspective, making objects appear smaller and closer together as they are placed further in the distance to create the feeling of depth in his piece. Iconography is more prevalent in the Northern Renaissance artwork compared to the Italian Renaissance artwork. Upon first glance, there are two distinct and obvious similarities between the two works. The most noticeable is how Mary is wearing blue and is very similarly depicted. • 6. Color as Metaphor in Film What Dreams May Come Looking at landscape art, especially when painted by one of the masters, many have undoubtedly pondered: what would it be like to live there? Shapes and attention to detail are, of course, important in a painting. However, it is color that draws the eye and inspires the heart. Oscar Wilde, an Irish poet and dramatist, spoke well of this when he noted that, Mere color, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways. (qtd in color ) . Vincent Ward had a similar understanding of this impact when, in 1998, he directed the movie What Dreams May Come. Looking at this film, one can easily imagine being inside a living painting. The use of color to emphasize the emotional state of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using this deeper shade highlights the intensity of her loss and confusion without over powering the scene. As the days and weeks pass by, Annie tries to return to a normal life. However, with the other half of her soul gone, she finds this to daunting of a task. Sitting at her vanity, wearing a very pale lavender gown, she chooses to end her life. She places several crushed pills into a bowl of pudding, and after eating it, she waits to die. The lightness of purple used here shows that it is not her will that is weak; it is the weakness of her connection with Chris that drives her to make this fatal choice. After learning of Annie s suicide and the self induced hell she will face, Chris makes the decision to enter hell, find Annie, and return with her to heaven. By using their connection as a sort of homing device, Chris descends ever deeper in to the pit of despair. He finds himself falling through an actual sea of faces where, after landing on the floor of hell s basement, locates what looks like a dilapidated version of his and Annie s house. Everything that can be seen in this purgatory looks as if the color has been drained by a leech. Black, gray, dirty yellows and sepia like tones abound in all directions, except for a single tree, which stands in front of the door to the house. • 7. Essay about The Horror that Are Child Soldiers All around the world, especially in third world countries, children are being forced to fight in wars and conflicts that they did not start, and they do not need to fight in. Today, it is estimated that over 300,000 children are enlisted in armies and militias around the world (Kaplan). These children are called child soldiers. A child soldier is classified as a person enlisted in an army or militia that is under the age of eighteen. (11 Facts). They are recruited into armies for many different reasons and used for many different tasks. There are a number of countries that children are forced to fight in such as Columbia, Myanmar, Iraq, and many more (11 Facts/Kaplan). Children taken into these armies are forced to watch despicable things happen to people they know or do not know, but they know that they are human and most likely innocent (Stolen Kids). For example, an eleven year old boy in Myanmar was forced to watch as mothers were killed. Afterwards, some of the soldiers smashed their babies heads on rocks and killed them (Stolen Kids). Not only are children forced to watch these terrible things happen, they are forced to commit wretched crimes as well. A twelve year old Columbian girl was held at gunpoint and told to kill one of her friends. She eventually did, but closed her eyes and she had to bury the body afterwards (Stolen Kids). She was told that she was not allowed to cry while doing this as well as that this murder was the first of many, and that not crying is crucial (Stolen Kids). This is one of many crimes that children are forced to commit while in service to armies and militias. The things that child soldiers are forced to do lead to a lot of psychological trauma. When an organization called War Child interviewed children they had rescued, up to 90% admitted that they needed psychological help and support to cope with what they had seen and done. A study has shown that children who are rescued often have nightmares, sadness, recurring violent images, and intrusive thoughts. The children who were forced to commit terrible ... Asymmetricistic Impact On Graphic Design THE IMPACT OF THE INTERNATIONAL TYPOGRAPHIC STYLE ON WEB DESIGN INTRODUCTION The International Typographic Style, or Swiss Style, invokes to the graphic design movement that emerged in Switzerland during the 1950s, after the Second World War, in a particular social, economical and industrial context. Through emphasizing clarity of information, the International Style is characterized by a range of specific visual hallmarks. This movement is especially marked by the creation and use of grids and sans serif typefaces. Indeed, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It serves as a framework for designers to organize their information and make it clear. Inspired by the Constructivism approach, Swiss designers preferred asymmetrical layouts and used the grid as an organization tool to provide an overall orderly and unified structure. The grid serves as an armature on which designers can organize text and images in a rational, easy to absorb manner. The use of photography is another important characteristic of this movement. Swiss designers were influenced by the modernist idea in which photography was a better tool to show reality than drawings and illustrations. Keeping white spaces is essential for Swiss designers because it helps to perceive the different groups of the content. In a format, the right amount of white spaces at the good places can create a first good impression and can motivate visitors to read through the web page. So, white spaces are important for a good design and the Swiss style design lays a lot of emphasis on it. This style promotes the use of big white spaces between texts to differentiate them and to give a boost to the whole design. • 11. Lyme Disease Assignment For this assignment, I interviewed a close friend, Dana Rivard. Dana is also a first year student; she is from Massachusetts and majoring in Health Sciences. In a friendly conversation, a few weeks ago she mentioned having Lyme disease. I grew up in a rural part of Indiana so my childhood consisted of playing outside almost everyday. My front yard is full of trees, and because I live in a very forested area right across from a corn field, these trees often have ticks. My parents always warned us to be cautious of ticks by using insect repellant and making sure we were wearing long clothing if we were going to be close to the trees. Our dogs would often get a tick here or there that my parents would have to pull off, but only once or twice do I remember one of my siblings or cousins getting a tick on them. My parents and grandparents always warned us about Lyme disease, because it was such a prevalent topic in Indiana. As a child, it seemed as if my parents were overreacting, which is why it was so interesting to see that Dana had gotten Lyme disease. According to the CDC, Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks. Once projects are prioritized and those priorities are reviewed and discussed, the department can evaluate the results to determine funding and resource allocation for the higher priority projects. A final step involves assessing how and when (or if) to fund the lower priority projects in the future if/when more resources become available. Creating and using a prioritization matrix involves five simple steps: 1. Determine your criteria and rating scale. There are two components involved in rating the projects on your ¡§to do¡¨ list: criteria for assessing importance, and a rating scale. The first step is to determine the factors you will use to assess the importance of each project. Choose factors that will clearly differentiate important from unimportant projects ¡V these are your criteria. A group of 6 12 criteria is typical. Example criteria might include whether or not the project is a mandate, the value it brings to the customer, etc. Then, for each of your criteria, establish a rating scale to use in assessing how well a particular project satisfies that criteria. To ensure consistent use of the rating scale, provide some details to define how the criteria should be applied. • 13. Bias In The Media s Twist Story Half of the things from modern media that people have heard has probably been twisted in some way. I believe that the media does twist stories, to make things sound different. There are plenty of examples where the media will make a situation sound different, show bias towards one person, or lie and gives false facts. The media does this a lot more than often than you think, and it can affect a humongous area. Surprisingly often, the media will change a story to make someone or something sound worse. For my first example, a newspaper makes Philip s fight against his suspension sound worse (AVI 127.) The media is making Philip s situation sound like a colossal problem, when it s actually just a minor thing. The media is making Miss Narwin sound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The media gives out false facts, and someone uses them in a school board meeting (AVI 125.) This shows how the media giving out false facts, does end up tricking people who eventually might end up spreading the false facts. News lies about the location of a kind story (Sigmund Fraud 12.) Here, there is a story that is broadcasted across the entire world but is considered local. This is showing that the media is twisting a story to make it seem like it is something within their community, even if it was across the world. Media lies to help Stalin hide something dangerous (John Hayward 2 3.) In this example, the media was twisting a story some decades ago, to make a situation seem like everything was okay. Helping Stalin changed the entire course of history. News outlets lie about a young boy named Jimmy (John Hayward 7 9.) In Washington D.C. the news created a fake story about a little boy named Jimmy, who was an 8 year old heroin addict. The media lies, and creates a fake story about this boy just to have something interesting to offer. Media lies, saying fake news is the reason Hillary lost (Chris Pandolfo 37 38.) The textbook defined inquiry as the process that students should use to learn science (Martin, Sexton, Franklin, Gerlovich, McElory 2009). They should be able to ask questions, use their questions to plan and conduct a scientific investigation, use appropriate science tools and scientific techniques, evaluate evidence and use it logically to construct several alternative explanations, and communicate their conclusions scientifically (Martin, et. Al., 2009). In essence, students should grasp the knowledge that is taught in science class, as well as share the finding in an educated manner with others. As we examine inquiry, we will discuss what research says about inquiry, determine how inquiry looks inside the classroom setting, discuss challenges that may arise teachers use inquiry based teaching in the classroom setting, and share a personal reflection on the benefits of inquiry teaching and learning based on the research presented. Inquiry is a multifaceted activity that involves making observations, posing questions; examining books and other sources of information to see what is already known (Villa Beptiste, 2014). The same study showed that by increasing the minimum wage by only 5.1% to $15.25 an additional 77,800 people would be affected and it would cost the Government $22.82million dollars annually. According to the 2016 Minimum Wage Review, again conducted by MBIE, after the minimum wage was set to $15.25, if they were to increase the minimum wage to $19.25 (still below the recommended living wage of $20.20) approximately 28,000 people would lose their jobs and there would be an increased cost of approximately $543.55million dollars annually. • 29. William Blake Poet William Blake is one of the most renowned poets in the history of English literature. Born to the owners of a hosiery shop on Broad Street in the center of London in 1757, William Blake developed into a toddler of extraordinary imagination. While only a young boy (around the age of four), he spoke to his parents of seeing angels playing amongst him, encountering visions of heaven and hell throughout London and the nearby countryside, and spotting God keeping a close eye on him during tasks and chores. It was not long before the young Blake began to stencil out the visions from his imagination, and as an eleven year old, he enlisted in Pars Drawing School to learn the art of printing and plaster casting. Soon thereafter, Blake began to apprentice under London artist James Basire, and as a fourteen year old, he was assigned to drawing monuments in Westminster Abbey, which led to a lifelong admiration for Gothic art and religious illustration. While working with Basire, Blake befriended contemporary apprentice James Parker. Parker and Blake would later become partners in a jointly owned print shop on Broad Street, right next door to the Blake hosiery shop and household, a partnership that only lasted one year (1784 85). One must recall the historical context of Blake s development from a young artist to a poet in his mid twenties. Although the era of Saddam was stained with corruption and ethnic cleansing, the stable period proved to be the height of modern Iraq s existence. Is Iraq holistically a better nation after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein? IRAQ DURING SADDAM S REIGN (1989) SOCIALLY, following the war with Iran in 1988, Iraq was ranked 50 in the 1990 UNDP Human Development Index, which measures national success in education, GDP, and health. Iraq was nearing the top of the middle range of countries in regard to the implementation of basic social services and infrastructure. He was part of the French court, and supported Christine completely on her writing interests. Etienne and Christine had three children together, including Jean de Castel, who was born in 1384 and lived for eighty eight years. That is the only known child. Poems make up most of her writing. Usually those poems were about Christine s long lost love, Etienne, but that was before she realized how badly women were being treated. Remember, these were the Middle Ages; women weren t even able to work back then. Women also (usually) had no form of education. Women were even considered their husband s property. Christine started to criticize women s lack of rights in her works. She believed strongly in gender equality and that women were strong, heroic, and brave. Other than gender equality and love poems, she also wrote biographies and autobiographies. This includes a biography about Charles the Fifth, which was very flattering and pleasing, and her autobiography, which talks about her thoughts on women. This was written to cease the continued debate about women. Christine was the original advocate for women s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
