Disadvantages Of Uk Constitution
The quotation given by Alder has been in debates for some decades now and this is what my essay is
about. Starting with an introduction of constitution the classifications will be described. Then giving a
short history of UK constitution it will be followed by its sources. Then giving a summary of recent
debates on this topic, essay will take form of arguments and concluding with my opinion.
A constitution is mechanism of fundamental principles governing how members of a group or
organisation should behave, who has the power etc. Any organisation from a small club to any biggest
union can have a constitution. The constitution of a country is a little different, although it is still,
essentially, a set of rules governing how the country operates ... Show more content on

Conventions are also known named as customs and have no weight legally but politically acts as
gravitational force in many decisions. Very basic example of a convention is that legally queen can
refuse the royal assent to any bill, passed through parliament, however due to convention she does not.
Many scholars have even debated on this like Dicey, Marshall and Jennings who said conventions are
flesh on dry bones of law and oil to the wheels of law. 6
Should the constitution of UK be codified or not is a very deep and difficult argument. The basic
theories for the constitution are Formalist and Substantive. Formalists say that the constitution should
establish the government bodies and provide clear framework of rules so that individuals are clear
about their rights and the way to act. Whereas Richard Epstein characterises Substantive theory that
constitution should also be designing the fundamental values such as democracy and human rights and
provide protection to individuals.7
There is a vast debate on topic that what should be added into the constitution and some basic and
common points from arguments at a glance are

The Problem Of Computer Technology
Technology as we know it is rapidly evolving at an increasing rate. I can sit down on any given
morning and effortlessly create a movie on my laptop. But, it hasn t always been candy canes and
rainbows. Imagine producing a five minute video on a device that has less memory or storage than a
toaster. Aside from having unbelievable difficulty in attempting such a task, the sheer processing
power and storage required, would inherently render the device obsolete. The floppy disk, a square
shaped storage device, commonly used in the 1980 90 s, supported one megabyte, which at the time
could slide in a few word documents or a primitive game of Tetris. However, in terms of movie
editing, the floppy disk would ve been a nightmare. In arguing the obsolescence of floppy disks three
reasons that come to mind are: their storage capacities are tiny, every major consumer based
computing company has ceased production of floppies, and there are no floppy drives supported on
current platforms. Despite what some people may think, floppy disks are obsolete for the same reason
that people today use the cloud , and that is convenience.
One reason why floppy disks are obsolete is because their capacities are simply too small to fulfill the
basic needs of most individuals these days. Speaking at the International Quantum Technologies
conference, Vladimir Shalaev of Purdue University revealed that the average amount of data
consumed in 1986 per person was a measly five hundred megabytes compared

The Animal Use Of Animals In The Colosseum
I don t think that animals shouldn t have been used in the colosseum for gladiator fights. Some might
believe that animals were used to make the fights more entertaining. But I believe that it was very
unkind to the animals and inhumane. This is misguided because they could have use something else to
entertain themselves like plays or something other than killing thousands of animals and humans.
Many animals went extinct in the colosseum. The animals killed a lot of people at the colosseum.
They(people in the colosseum and the townspeople) would kill a lot of animals. The definition of a
gladiator is a person who was a professional fighter, and fought in front of people in the colosseum in
the Roman Empire. Some things about the colosseum are it was started to be built in 70 A.D and
finished 10 years later. The height of the colosseum was 157ft and the perimeter was 1788 ft. There
were 4 floors and it could hold 50,000 people. The arena was 180 ft wide and 287 ft long. One other
thing about the colosseum is over 1 million animals died there. The first reason that i don t think
animals shouldn t have been used in the colosseum is because many animals went extinct in the
colosseum. The first example is elephants, lions, and tigers from Africa and Asia were hunted until
extinct by the townspeople. I m wondering why the townspeople liked to kill and make some extinct?
The second example is that sometimes whole species like European Wild horses, the Great Auk, the

Prescription Drug Abuse And The United States With Students
Running Head: Prescription Drug Abuse
Prescription Drug Abuse in the United States with students
Vikash Patel
Wayne State University
Prescription drug abuse among college students have increased over the past few years and is now a
national problem. College students are abusing stimulant prescription pills just to stay awake to study
and they will abuse the prescription pills just to stay awake to socialize with friends. According to the
journal of Human Behavior in the Social Environment, they have come up with a new term called
Generation RX, which is known to the rising group of young adults who are abusing prescription
medication. In 2008 the National Drug Survey on Drug Use and Health had found an increase of
21.1% in the general population in the use of nonmedical prescription between the years of 1992 2003
and 15% of people ages 18 25 reported the use of prescription pills. Research showed that in the past
ten years prescription stimulants has passed the abuse of other drugs on college campuses. The only
drug that research says that prescription pills did not pass for being used more commonly was
marijuana. College students have reported saying that they use prescription stimulants for both
academic and recreational. To be more specific, college students said, Alcohol, marijuana, prescription
barbiturates, and cocaine were used mainly as have fun drugs. While ADHD medication was used for
getting good grades . (DeSantis et al., 2008, p. 317).

The Problem Of The Homelessness Epidemic
Jacob Setton
How to end Homelessness in D.C.?
The chasm between the law and, the law as applied in practice is vast. The law provides funding for
homeless people, but this often leads to discrimination because it is so difficult to gain access to these
funds. Roscoe Pound, one of the most cited legal scholars of the 20th century, points out how the laws
on the street too often differ from the laws on the books and result in discrimination. Homeless people
suffer from government bureaucracy that makes it almost impossible for a homeless person to
successfully receive aid without help from others. The application process for applying for aid is both
strenuous and difficult, that requires a level of literacy skills and legal expertise that would likely
preclude an otherwise healthy person from becoming homeless in the first place. In order to fix this
injustice, experiments in the field of healthcare and government policy, must be applied to help the
homeless in our community in D.C.. To solve the homelessness epidemic, we need to expand
collaborations between institutions that already exist in D.C.to help the homeless and create a housing
first plan that provides both rapid housing for the temporarily homeless and permanent supportive
housing for those who are chronically homeless. This policy change may seem intuitive give homeless
people housing , however detractors argue that it is a naive approach to a complex issue that also costs
too much.

The Mission Statement And Core Values
While physical environment is crucial, the facility s origin, mission statement and core values are
equally as important. According to Ms. Andrew, Superior Residence was formed by a man named
Dennis Taylor in 1999. Ironically, Mr. Taylor s mother discovered she had dementia when she left
eggs on the stove and forgot about them eventually burning them. However no assisted living facility
met his standard of care and as a result, he decided to establish a decentralized company that focuses
on superior care and a quality lifestyle for seniors (Andrew, J., personal communication, October 28th,
2016). The company s mission statement is Building trust so that residents, families, and our team
have peace, and its four core values are integrity, service, efficiency, and the most important, fun
(Superior Residences , 2016). The mission statement shows was designed to provide comfort to
families because although they might not be able to cure or prevent the progression of their loved one
s dementia, they can provide them with peace and warmth in a comfortable environment. Moreover, in
regards to the core values, while the first three are somewhat basic, the last value, fun provides
patients and their families with a sense of hope. In Jill s words, they have fun morning, afternoon, and
night through lots of music and exercise. A truly heartfelt experience during the tour was when Jill
began to sing to a resident, Joyce, who soon chimed in with her, belting out Well I ve got joy,

Betacyanin Lab Report
In figure 1, the Betacyanin are treated with different levels of sodium chloride. Most of these graphs
with different concentrations seem to have a deceleration curve. The concentrations of 0%, 1%, 5%,
and 10% seem to have a deceleration curve and that maybe due because they reached a point of
equilibrium so they start to level off. You can also see that the absorption is proportional to the
concentration, because it increase due to it concentration and that may be due to the ethanol that the
beetroots where in. Since the beetroots sat in ethanol while the time being it made the membrane more
permeable, allowing the salts to either increase the diffusion of the betacyanins or decrease it. The
concentrations of 2.5% and 7.5% seem to have a direct proportion. This could occur because it had yet
not had equilibrium, and the betacyanins were still being diffused. In the graph of 0% concentration I
received the value of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At lower concentration level sodium chloride would have a lower diffusion rate compared to
magnesium chloride. However at a higher concentration level sodium chloride would have a higher
diffusion rate compared to magnesium chloride. The higher the concentration level is for sodium
chloride the faster the rate betacyanin is diffused. The lower the concentration level is for magnesium
chloride the faster the rate betacyanin is diffused. The same salt can be cause different diffusion rates
based on its concentration. The concentration of a molecules can be too high that the diffusion has to
be release faster that it usually would, or they have to little of it that the membrane cannot get enough.
In other words one salt can help the membrane stabilize itself or it can either make it worst by
weakening it. My R2 for sodium chloride was equal to 0.02479 and my R2 for magnesium chloride
was 0.13685. Both my R2 were below .7, so it probably was not the best

When Should Transgender Identification Begin
Research on Transgender Identification in Youth or Adulthood
The question at hand is whether or not it is more beneficial for a person with gender dysphoria to be
able to express the gender for which they identify with at a young age, or later, in adulthood.
In regards to sociology, symbolic interactionism is ideal for examining the way in which sociological
theory relates to transgender issues. This is because symbolic interactionism is the study of how
people relate to one another and their environment, but specifically how the relations between each
other have an effect on their environment. Blumer s conceptualization of symbolic interactionism,
known as the situational approach is the one most often used in sex research (Longmore, ... Show

Hopefully, by gaining insight into these interactions, it will help inform whether or not it is beneficial
for a child to be able to express their gender identity at a young age or whether it is more beneficial for
them to wait until adulthood.
A theory that would give insight into the research question in relation to psychology would be identity
theory. Stryker and Burke (2006) have the most relevant ideas on identity theory that would inform the
research question. In identity theory, it is used to show how people identify with being a particular
type of person; how they take on social roles and belong to social groups (Burke, 2006). Stryker
claimed that the greater number of people one is committed to being a certain type of person around
the more they identify with being that type of person (Burke, 2006). This poses interesting insight into
the research question of whether or not it is beneficial for a child to express their gender identity at a
young age and be out with everyone they know, or for an adult to have to slowly bring their identity
into existence among people individually and how this may have an effect on the person. Stryker also

What Is The Supreme Court Case Of Loving V. Virginia
Loving v. Virginia
Loving versus Virginia is cased based on racial discrimination. A case is set in the 1950s where
interracial marriages was still taboo. The state of Virginia had a law in place that made interracial
marriages a felony. Which in turn Loving and his wife took their case to Supreme Court to seek justice
for themselves and others, and their state s law called into question. This case the Fourteenth
Amendment was brought into play and the right to Equal Protection and Due Process clauses.
The basis of this case coming to the Supreme Court attention was because a white 23 year old male

Lord Of The Flies Rhetorical Analysis
Many people in this world is civilized from rules the government has created. Without these rules it
would be like a barbaric world where everyone has to find their own food for survival. When people
had the idea of a making rules to follow it started a society that needs rules to be followed in order to
get anything done. With the creation of rules people can get more things done with structure of rules.
Without these rules everyone will act more savage than the normal person acts today. In Lord of the
Flies, William Golding uses the conflict to show that Ralph is civilized, and that Jack is showing signs
of savagery. Ralph being civilized could help him be more alarmed about what goes around him and
make better decisions faster. When Ralph was voted leader he wanted first to make rules for everyone
on the island to follow. Making rules and choosing a leader like a government is being more civilized
compared to just hunting for meat. Rules is a great way to start of being leader of a group of young
kids. When everyone was talking at once he thought of the rule. The rule was, I ll give the conch to the
next person to speak he can hold it when he is speaking (Golding 33). This rule also said that only
Ralph could interrupt because he was the chief. By Ralph setting these rules it shows a governmental
state which is more civilized. In some countries, like the U.S.A., the people are allowed to vote for
their leader. Ralph voluntarily said, Seems to me we ought to have

Southern Colonies Economy Analysis
Out of each colonial region, the southern region was undoubtedly the most significant. Their economy
was the most prosperous, and their social and political aspects set precedents for other colonies and
other people. Other colonies began to be cognizant of the way their economy was run, the things that
happened in society, and the laws that were passed, and gained inspiration. As prosperous and
influential the southern colonies were, there are negative contributions the south made that get
overlooked such as slavery. The southern colonies were economically prosperous, as well as socially
and politically precedential, but their contributions of slavery had a detrimental effect that is still felt
today. In the 16th and 17th centuries the southern colonies had one of the most prosperous economies
in the world. The southern colonies prosperous economy was based on agriculture, cash crops, and
slavery. Out of each colonial group the southern colony had the largest slave population. These slaves
tirelessly worked mainly on cotton, tobacco, grains, and vegetables. Slaves allowed the southern
colonies to acquire wealth without much hard work. The triangle trade along with the indentured

The Civil War On America
The Civil War was a big moment in history. Many Americans know what it is and have come to
appreciate it. The Civil war made big changes to America and society. Although things are not perfect
in America today, the Civil War effected society in a big way and changed many people over a period
of time. Thus, America was made a better place as a whole and improved drastically. The war started
in 1861 and ended in 1865. The Civil war was fought for many reasons and numerous factors caused
the war. For example, around this time period Northern, or free states had many differences between
Southern, or slave states. This included the power of the national government to prohibit slavery in the
territories that had not yet become states 2 When Abraham Lincoln became President in 1860 he
pledged to the people that he would keep slavery out of the territories. In turn, seven slave states that
were in the deep South seceded, or separated from, the nation and made a new nation widely known as
the Confederate States of America. Many Northerners chose not to take the secession seriously and
failed to recognize that the Southern states were authentic about what they were doing. Though other
people did not seem to care too much, Abraham Lincoln did. He gave his First Inaugural speech to a
broken nation in March of 1861, the year the war started. One of the first things that Lincoln said in
his speech was that Apprehension seems to exist among the people of the Southern

Crime And Punishment During The Prohibition Era

Creating a legal age to cease the criminal behavior during the prohibition era would create a solution
because it s no longer illegal for people to sell or consume alcohol and organized crime rates within
gangsters would decrease. Prohibition began once the 18th amendment was passed, this banned the
manufacturing, selling, consumption, and transportation of alcohol. Alcohol was seen as the devil s
advocate so the government thought prohibition would help decrease violence and improve the lives
of so many Americans. During prohibition crime rates raised tremendously, people didn t care that
drinking or selling alcohol was illegal, they continued to drink anyways, opening up saloons,
speakeasies and illegal bars. One third of the adult population was willing to abstain from alcohol
during Prohibition; instead, drinking became a symbol of independence and sophistication. (

Faith, Fertility and Fight: How Feminist Attributes Ultimately Defeated the Final Solution
In his speech to the National Socialist Women s League on September 8th 1934, Hitler delineated the
roles that German men and women should have in society. He proclaimed and he defined that a
woman s world should be limited to just her husband, her family, her children, and her home . The
rights of German women were greatly repressed since Nazi ideology regarding gender was extremely
traditionalist. For the National Socialists, women were to occupy traditional roles of support and care,
all in service of creating a master race. For an Aryan woman living in Nazi Germany, to be a wife and
mother should be her highest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the testimonies of Holocaust survivors Sonia Berson, Vlakdka Meed, and Renee Firestone prove,
through their resilience and resourcefulness, that Jewish women could prevent Hitler from ultimately
attaining his Final Solution.
While some Holocaust scholarship dismisses the importance of establishing a difference between
female and male experiences during the Shoah, it is clear that experiences between men and women
followed a very gendered divide. Although the final solution certainly called for the death of every
woman, man and child defined as a Jew , it differed from any previous historical event in that it
explicitly targeted women and children rather than treating them as civilian causalities. In fact,
historians identify the Nazi brutality towards women and children as the ultimate symbol of barbarity.
Although some historians argue that examining the Holocaust through a gendered lens desecrates the
memory of the dead , it is important to remember the experiences that women had that were unique to
their sexuality. By ignoring the intrinsically female experiences of the Holocaust, scholars are greatly
doing a disservice to half of the Jewish population targeted during the Nazi genocide.
Women posed a significantly more dangerous threat to the Nazis since they had the ability to
propagate the Jewish race. From the onset of the Nazi regime, therefore, Jewish women

Major Risk Factors For Many Residents Living At St. Augustine
Risk Assessments
In general, floodplains is a major risk factor to many residents living in St. Augustine. In their
undeveloped state, floodplains play an important role in flooding. Natural floodplains reduce wind and
wave impacts and their vegetation stabilizes soils ( Flood hazard , n.d.). Floodplains can be recharged
in areas of groundwater and reduce the frequency and duration of low flows of surface water ( Flood
hazard , n.d.).
Some local natural floodplains in St. Augustine and St. Johns County are the Guana River State Park
and Anastasia State Park. According to the demographic profile of St. Augustine, many of the
residents live near those floodplain areas ( Flood hazard , n.d.). Documents of previous floods show
that St. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The effects and risks of flooding is a daily reality in much of St. Augustine. According to the
demographic profile, there are over 13,000 people living in St. Augustine, with drinking water wells
that are fouled by seawater (Simpson, 2015). In theory, one could conclude that many residents know
that a flood is very likely in to strike in their area (Simpson, 2015). With flood warnings in St.
Augustine making local newspaper as of lately, one could safely conclude that the community is
somewhat trying to make an effort towards awareness to the whole community both local and state.
Indicators of the Community Addressing the Issue
With seawater wells this could cause a problem if a flood was to occur. Making it even harder to
access water due to it being easily contaminated (Simpson, 2015). Communities like St. Augustine can
do only so much alone, being only a small community compared to others ( Sea rise , 2015). If the city
was to build a seawall, it could possible divert water to a neighbor city which would only further the
problem ( Sea rise , 2015).
Cities in Florida also lack the technology, money and manpower to keep back the seas by themselves (
Sea rise , 2015). Despite warnings from water experts and climate scientists about risks to cities and
drinking water, skepticism over sea level projections and climate change science has hampered
planning efforts at all levels of

John Winthrop And The Puritan Movement
There is no doubt that writings of Jonathan Edward s and John Winthrop had a tremendous influence
in the Puritan movement in the new world. They helped set values and establish order in the new
communities. Both writings deliver on puritan principles and had a critical role in shaping much of the
puritan religious beliefs, but granting all this they are tremendously different. The reason why these
writings have so little in common, despite both being puritan doctrines, is because of the different
situations each was written in. A Model of Christian Charity and Sinners in the Hands of an Angry
God were written about one hundred years apart, in two different centuries, and most importantly at
two different stages of the puritan movement. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This sermon was a radical departure in comparison to the other traditional Puritan texts. When
Edwards was writing his sermon he was beginning to witness deterioration in the original puritan
communities. He felt that the religious ideals first established by his predecessor Winthrop were
slipping among the puritans. Edwards wanted to have an impact on his readers. To him it was more
effective using scare tactics over positive encouragement to discuss proper conduct and God s wrath.
Edwards wanted to make sure the members of puritan society understood just how important their
behavior and conduct while on earth was. He wrote about the certain punishments that awaited in hell
for those who did not properly adhere to the puritan religious values. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry
God is full of strong and vivid images of hell, comparing hell to a pit of fire and depicts how
Unconverted men walk over the pit of hell on a rotten covering (Edwards). He crafted this imagery as
a deterrent example specifically to awaken the readers, and to remind them of the power of God and
his harshness when it comes to doing away with sinners. This gave the puritans encouragement to try

The Life of an Executive Order
The new president faces significant challenges at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Rectifying these short comings is important if the U.S. is to remain secure and prosperous.
On January 27th, 2017, president Trump signed an executive order dealing with immigration. The
order took effect immediately and sparked anger and confusion across the nation. Dozens of
international travelers were detained at airports across the country. Most of those detained were simply
caught up in a government communication limbo. The order placed a temporary moratorium on
immigration from seven countries Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.

The order had been reviewed by the Justice Department Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) before it was
issued. The OLC, whose authority addresses the form and whether the order is properly drafted,
approved the order. Yates objected to the president s executive order. Yates declared that as long as she
was acting attorney general, the Department of Justice would not present arguments in defense of the
executive order until she became convinced that it was appropriate to do so. Clearly, since Yates did
not issue this statement on the grounds that the order was illegal, she based her decision on her
disagreement with the justice of the order.
Consequently, Yates was fired. This action fortified the legal battle we are debating today. Timeline of

Analysis Of Bram Stoker s Dracula
Voluptuous Vampire or Proper Prude
Written and set in the late 19th century, Bram Stoker s epistolary novel Dracula is a pivotal book in
gothic/horror literature. Like most novels written by men, Dracula appeals more to the male audience
and their fantasies and fears about women than to the Victorian Age woman. In the novel, Lucy and
Mina are the only two female characters the reader meets in detail, and they are also the only two
characters that are seen becoming vampires indeed, they are the only major vampire characters, with
the exception of the chief antagonist, who are described in detail within the novel. Therefore it is clear
that these two play a very important role in representing females in the novel. Both characters are also

This can be seen when Van Helsing comments about Mina, She is one of God s women, fashioned by
His own hand to show us men and other women that there is a heaven where we can enter, and that its
light can be here on earth. So true, so sweet, so noble, so little an egoist and that, let me tell you, is
much in this age... ( 197 ). The fact that Stoker has chosen to include such an important contrast
between the two major characters so early in the novel suggests that it will play an important part in
the narrative. The reader later learns that this difference is essential to the plot, as it is only Mina s
purity and innocence that allows the group to defeat Dracula at the end of the novel, and ultimately
saves Mina from Lucy s fate. Lucy s part in the novel may be relatively short, yet her role is essential
to the audience s understanding of the novel s message about female roles and female sexuality in
Victorian society since she is the first victim of Count Dracula. At the same time, Lucy is the only
character whose transformation into a vampire Stoker describes in detail:
At times she slept, and both Van Helsing and I noticed the difference in her, between sleeping and
waking. Whilst asleep she looked stronger, although more haggard and her breathing was softer; her
open mouth showed the pale

Legitimacy In Bolivia
According to class lecture, legitimacy is defined as the belief that government rule is acceptable, right,
and proper . The government that will be discussed today is Bolivia s. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10
being the most legitimate, Bolivia is a 7.Let me explain my reasoning.
The government of Bolivia is legitimate socially. This is because the form of government in Bolivia is
a presidential republic, and government officials are decided by elections and appointments every 5
years.1 Like the United States, Bolivia has different branches of government; an executive branch, a
legislative branch (with a Chamber of Senators and a
Chamber of Deputies), and a judicial branch.1 The president and vice president are elected not by an
electoral college, but by popular vote.1 This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the majority rules in elections, the people decide who leads. This shows that the government, for the
most part, holds the consent of the people. The system of government, how things work, show the
legitimacy of the Bolivian government.
I deducted a few points off of the legitimacy scale for Bolivia for a few reasons. The first is that,
according to freedomhouse.org, the government is only partly free. While there is freedom of speech,
there are also stipends.2 Article 107 [in Bolivia s constitution]....clears the way for content based
restrictions by stipulating that the media must contribute to the promotion of the ethical, moral, and
civic values of the nation s multiple cultures. Defamation remains a criminal offense and can carry a
jail term of between six months and two years. The
constitution calls for an independent judiciary, but in practice the judiciary is overburdened, corrupt,
and subject to constant pressures from the executive. 2 For the lack of freedom of speech, I ve
deducted points.Another reason I ve deducted points is because of the corruption level of Bolivia. The
more corrupt a government, the less people are going to trust and

Chrysanthemums Essay
Chrysanthemums A good writer has many tools at hand that help them develop good story lines. There
are literary techniques such as voice, point of view, character, theme, and symbolism. One very
interesting technique is that of symbolism. With symbolism the author is able to write a story in which
many of the actions around the main character seem to enhance the way the character develops. The
use of symbolism to develop the characters is easy to see in the short story the chrysanthemums by
John Steinback. In this story Steinback writes of a woman who lives on a farm; but the woman feels
trapped, and wishes that she could free herself. The author uses both the time of year and the location
to develop a setting that compliments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The air was cold and tender. A light wind blew up from the southwest so that the farmers were mildly
hopeful of a good rain before long; but fog and rain do not go together. (Steinback 267) From this line
much may be derived about Elisa Smith s character. The quiet waiting symbolizes how Elisa is silently
waiting for something to happen. Elisa can not say much about her current situation, she has to calmly
weight for something to happen. This can be seen when her husband jokes about her going to the
fights with her. At the time she says nothing, because it would be absurd for her to go with him.
However, after she grows up at the end of the story she expresses her interest to go with him. The
symbol of the possibly of rain shows how Elisa anticipates that something interesting in her life may
happen, but deep down she knows that there is a very low probability that anything would actually
happen. Elisa s bath is another good symbol that Steinback uses to develop Elisa s character. When
she, scrubbed herself with a little block of pumice. . . until her skin was scratched and red. (Steinback
273) she was scrubbing away the skin that bound her into her conventional role. After this bath she
had the courage to ask henry if they could have wine at the dinner tonight, and that they may possibly

Theory X and Theory Y
McGregor referred to the opposing motivational methods that he identified, as Theory X and Theory Y
management. Each assumes that the manager s role is to organize resources, including people, to best
benefit the company. However, beyond this commonality, they re quite dissimilar. While Theory X
represents the traditional view of management, Theory Y represents the newer attitudes in
organizational psychology.
This does not mean that all managers believe entirely in Theory X or Theory Y. Most managers
probably believe that people are a combination of both, with tendency to behave as one type.
Theory X and Theory Y tend to influence and get influenced by External and Internal Modifiers. This
can be understood better from the diagram given below.

Theory X Traditional View of Direction Control
Theory X is based on the assumptions that the average human beings dislike work, wishes to avoid
responsibility if at all possible. Therefore most people must be coerced, controlled to achievement of
organizational objectives. Theory X management style therefore requires close, firm supervision with
clearly specified tasks.
Essentially, Theory X assumes that the primary source of most employee motivation is monetary, with
security as a strong second. According to this theory employees will show little ambition without an

Analysis Of Behind The Formaldehyde Curtain
Tanha Uddin Professor Ohanenye English 1301 17 September 2016 Analysis of Behind the
Formaldehyde Curtain by Jessica Mitford There are quite a few things out there in the world that are
unknown by most humans, and one such thing was brought to light by Jessica Mitford. Behind the
Formaldehyde Curtain is a very detailed passage written by Jessica Mitford, describing the highly
unknown process of embalming a corpse goes through before being presented at their funeral.
Throughout the passage, Mitford uses description as her way to present the entire information
regarding the topic, while using chronological order as a subordinate in order to mildly state the many
steps taken, and cause and effect to show the impact embalming had on others rather ... Show more

These subordinates helped enhance the information being shared by Mitford. The chronological order
helped determine the order at which the process of embalming occurred, making it easier for readers
to get a mental view of the situation. For example, Mitford starts by stating: The body is first laid out
in the undertaker s morgue (239), and then proceeds to state, step by step, what occurs afterwards.
Another thing noticeable in the passage, was the cause and effect portrayed, as related to embalming.
As it was a not so well known thing for the majority of the world, embalming seemed to have different
reactions from people. After one English woman participated in a funeral in San Francisco, she came
across one such corpse that was embalmed, and as a result she stated: Then and there I decided that I
could never face another American funeral even dead.

In the last ten years the promotion of fast food outlets has significantly increased and changed the
‘big four into the ‘big five . Breakfast cereals alone form an important and well established part of
the grocery sector with over 90% of households buying them. In 2000, 414,000 tonnes of breakfast
cereals alone were sold in the UK at a retail value of £1.1bn. The top leading manufacturers in the UK
are Kellogs, Wetabix and cereal partners, with Kellogs holding on to its estimated share value of 40%.
However despite their current high market value the number of children who influence the sales of
cereal has been declining since 1998 and is predicted to fall by a further 400,000 by 2007. This
reduction in children s population is mainly due to economical changes in the family setting with more
families having fewer children. As the decline in numbers continues it is increasingly important for
cereal marketers to understand their main source of income and create new inventive marketing
strategies to sustain their competitive position in the grocery segment. As such this research aims to
identify key influences that determine children s purchase behaviour and propose a new marketing
strategy that will enable cereal manufactures to more effectively position their products, directly
targeting their main source of income, namely children.
As the decline of children s population continues, cereal manufacturers have been

Therefore, Mrs. Harris seems to have congestive heart failure.
Heart failure describes the heart s inability to function properly, meaning the heart is unable to pump
efficiently throughout the body. Thus causing the heart to work extra hard in order to compensate the
body s needs, but this ultimately leads to failure. And due to Mrs. Harris s hypertension and alcohol
consumption, she is now displaying signs and symptoms of congestive heart failure, as both are major

The Importance Of Life In Captivity For Animals
Life in captivity for animals is comparable in some situations to humans living inside of a prison. The
restrictions that are imposed on these animals while in captivity are unbearable living conditions that
affect the animal both mentally and physically. The animals understand that this is not their home
which leads to the breakdown of their psyche. One example of this comes from a zoo in the United
Kingdom. In the year 1979, the Bristol Zoo gained a new animal which would become one of their
biggest attractions. Misha the male polar bear caught the eye of the public with his unusual and odd
behavior. Researchers that studied animal rights in the late twentieth century linked this behavior to
Misha s enclosure at the zoo. Researchers came to the conclusion that the prison like living conditions
that Misha encountered was the cause of his psychotic appearance. The public had described him as
looking like a beast who was breaking down as a result of the captivity instead of an average polar
bear in a zoo. The zoo was able to view Misha through surveillance during this entire process, similar
to humans living in a prison or an asylum. According to the article by Andrew Flack, Following media
attention from animal rights organizations and the media between 1985 and the early 1990s, Misha s
psychotic appearance in a repeatedly evoked image of the prisons and asylums of the past, where
surveillance, spectacle, and suffering collided to alter the natures of the beasts within

separate from capital. As History 2 inherent in capital but interrupts and punctuates the logic of
capitalism (64). Additionally, Marx, (Marxist) Gramsci thinks that History 1 is the real history, while
Chakrabarty asserts without History two there would be no History one as history two is charged with
the function of constantly interrupting the totalizing thrusts of History 1 (66). Chakrabarty details how

Persuasive Essay On Drinking And Driving
Drunk Driving Kills Drunk driving is a dangerous problem that continues to take hundreds of lives
each year. Is drinking and driving worth one s life? This one decision, which may not seem important
at the time, can end badly. Drunk driving is a huge problem in America. Driving under the influence of
alcohol is a serious cause to road accidents and deaths. Drunk driving is dangerous for not only the
person under the influence, but for the drivers and passengers as well. An intoxicated person
endangers everyone on the road. Many people that drink and drive are under aged teens. Underage
drinking is a tremendous problem in the United States. In the article of National Institute on Alcohol
Abuse and Alcoholism, many young people drink alcohol by the age of fifteen. Thirty three percent of
teens have had at least one drink. In 2015, 7.7 million teen s ages 13 20 reported that they drank
alcohol in the past month. Many teens consume ninety percent of alcohol by binge drinking. Binge
drinking is an excessive amount of alcohol in a short period of time. An image of a picture shows how
drinking and driving can be dangerous. The visual argument shown is of a solider in his mid thirties,
putting up a sign saying, Don t Drink and Drive . The sign is standing up against a broken down,
crushed, red car. The front of the man s face has a gloomy, depressing emotion. Behind the solider is a
light pole leaning to the left side of the road. There is a broken down white car pulled off in

Research Paper On Mardi Gras
Researching Mardi Gras and everything dealing with it has broadened my horizons. I feel a little
ashamed that I never knew the history of Carnival. The most I knew was that I get a week off of
school so I can go to parades and eat king cake. Everything means something and has a history. The
colors, floats, trinkets, cake, balls, etc. all are important to Mardi Gras. Over the past few weeks, I
have learned a lot about Mardi Gras. I have become a walking textbook. I can spit out almost any little
thing about Mardi Gras. I have become less ignorant about my culture after doing this research paper.
It has become harder to find new resources about Mardi Gras because the information starts to become
repetitive. Finding new facts about Carnival history is hard. Almost every article explains the same
things such as when Mardi Gras started, what it represents, and everything else in between. I tried to
use different types of sources but I mainly used articles from databases and two books. Although it
does not seem like a variety of sources it does not matter because they are credible and most of them
are recent articles about Mardi Gras. One of the books I used was published in 1991. It is dated but not

I will use a variety of sources so my information can go in depth. Anyone who will read my research
paper will end up becoming an expert in Louisiana s Mardi Gras traditions. Mardi Gras developed into
a festival for everyone to come together and have the time of their lives. I hope to be able to share
what I have found over the past few weeks with my audience and the people who read this. If
someone who knew nothing about Mardi Gras was to read my paper than I hope they end up knowing
everything about Carnival, its foods, colors, festivities, etc. This research paper has enough
information to to teach anyone about the meaning of Mardi Gras and its traditions that

Texting Is Not Safe ! Haha
I can not discuss this now. Driving and Facebooking is not safe! Haha. were the last words of Taylor
Sauer, before her car traveling at 80 mph slammed into a tanker truck (Hosansky 407). At just 18, a
Utah State University student lost her life due to the distraction that millions of Americans find
themselves facing: smartphones. While on her way to visiting family in Idaho, one bad decision
resulted in her death. I think she was probably texting to stay awake, she was probably tired, stated her
father. But that s not a reason to do it, and the kids think they re invincible. To them, texting is not
distracting; they are so proficient at texting that they don t feel it s distracted driving. (Hosansky 407).
Taylor s father raised an essential question: Are teenagers unaware of the damage that their favorite
devices can cause if misused? Smartphones raise a serious concern, especially among parents. This is
due to both the psychological damage and danger that smartphones place on their children whose
brains are not yet fully developed. According to a study conducted on 404 undergraduate students,
three fourths felt that they are dependent on their phones.() The increasing use and popularity of
smartphones are an issue that can cause relationship issues, safety concerns, and distractions all which
can be detrimental to society. One of the most detrimental consequences of smartphones is the
distraction they promote while driving. They are not only endangering both the

Stereotypes In The Play Los Vendidos By Luis Valdez
In the Play Los Vendidos by Luis Valdez, the humor is based on stereotypes. A stereotype is defined
as, a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing .
Throughout Los Vendidos the script specifically stereotypes Hispanics for humorous effect. The entire
one act play is based around a Secretary, who is probably Mexican herself, in search for someone of
the Mexican type to work in a governor s office. She comes to Sancho s Used Mexican Lot and Curio
Shop which is the first stereotype that we are presented with as well as the setting for the whole play.
From this point on the stereotypes just keep growing as Sancho explains to the Secretary that he has
several models referring to different types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This wide brimmed sombrero is an extra added feature; keeps off the sun, rain and dust . After the
introduction of the stereotypical farmworker, four more different types are presented. The next model
that is presented to the secretary after she finds the farmworker unsuitable is the Pachuco. Sancho first
describes the Pachuco as an urban model from the city, built for speed and skilled at knife fights ,
stereotyping a city living Hispanic. When the secretary finds the Pachuco unsuitable as well, Sancho
suggests the Revolucionario which he stereotypes as a Mexican lover. The secretary seems sold on the
Revolucionario until she find out that he was Made in Mexico and explains that she needs an
American made Product . Which then leads Sancho to show her his last model, the Mexican American
. Sancho tells the secretary that he speaks two languages and has a college degree but is more
expensive. She decides to purchase him but regrets her decision when he starts malfunction but
threatening to kill white people. Luis Valdez successfully incorporated stereotypes into comedy by
going to such extremities so far as to compare people of Mexican decent to working

  • 2. Disadvantages Of Uk Constitution The quotation given by Alder has been in debates for some decades now and this is what my essay is about. Starting with an introduction of constitution the classifications will be described. Then giving a short history of UK constitution it will be followed by its sources. Then giving a summary of recent debates on this topic, essay will take form of arguments and concluding with my opinion. A constitution is mechanism of fundamental principles governing how members of a group or organisation should behave, who has the power etc. Any organisation from a small club to any biggest union can have a constitution. The constitution of a country is a little different, although it is still, essentially, a set of rules governing how the country operates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conventions are also known named as customs and have no weight legally but politically acts as gravitational force in many decisions. Very basic example of a convention is that legally queen can refuse the royal assent to any bill, passed through parliament, however due to convention she does not. Many scholars have even debated on this like Dicey, Marshall and Jennings who said conventions are flesh on dry bones of law and oil to the wheels of law. 6 Should the constitution of UK be codified or not is a very deep and difficult argument. The basic theories for the constitution are Formalist and Substantive. Formalists say that the constitution should establish the government bodies and provide clear framework of rules so that individuals are clear about their rights and the way to act. Whereas Richard Epstein characterises Substantive theory that constitution should also be designing the fundamental values such as democracy and human rights and provide protection to individuals.7 There is a vast debate on topic that what should be added into the constitution and some basic and common points from arguments at a glance are ... • 3. The Problem Of Computer Technology Technology as we know it is rapidly evolving at an increasing rate. I can sit down on any given morning and effortlessly create a movie on my laptop. But, it hasn t always been candy canes and rainbows. Imagine producing a five minute video on a device that has less memory or storage than a toaster. Aside from having unbelievable difficulty in attempting such a task, the sheer processing power and storage required, would inherently render the device obsolete. The floppy disk, a square shaped storage device, commonly used in the 1980 90 s, supported one megabyte, which at the time could slide in a few word documents or a primitive game of Tetris. However, in terms of movie editing, the floppy disk would ve been a nightmare. In arguing the obsolescence of floppy disks three reasons that come to mind are: their storage capacities are tiny, every major consumer based computing company has ceased production of floppies, and there are no floppy drives supported on current platforms. Despite what some people may think, floppy disks are obsolete for the same reason that people today use the cloud , and that is convenience. One reason why floppy disks are obsolete is because their capacities are simply too small to fulfill the basic needs of most individuals these days. Speaking at the International Quantum Technologies conference, Vladimir Shalaev of Purdue University revealed that the average amount of data consumed in 1986 per person was a measly five hundred megabytes compared ... • 4. The Animal Use Of Animals In The Colosseum I don t think that animals shouldn t have been used in the colosseum for gladiator fights. Some might believe that animals were used to make the fights more entertaining. But I believe that it was very unkind to the animals and inhumane. This is misguided because they could have use something else to entertain themselves like plays or something other than killing thousands of animals and humans. Many animals went extinct in the colosseum. The animals killed a lot of people at the colosseum. They(people in the colosseum and the townspeople) would kill a lot of animals. The definition of a gladiator is a person who was a professional fighter, and fought in front of people in the colosseum in the Roman Empire. Some things about the colosseum are it was started to be built in 70 A.D and finished 10 years later. The height of the colosseum was 157ft and the perimeter was 1788 ft. There were 4 floors and it could hold 50,000 people. The arena was 180 ft wide and 287 ft long. One other thing about the colosseum is over 1 million animals died there. The first reason that i don t think animals shouldn t have been used in the colosseum is because many animals went extinct in the colosseum. The first example is elephants, lions, and tigers from Africa and Asia were hunted until extinct by the townspeople. I m wondering why the townspeople liked to kill and make some extinct? The second example is that sometimes whole species like European Wild horses, the Great Auk, the Aurochs, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Problem Of The Homelessness Epidemic Jacob Setton How to end Homelessness in D.C.? The chasm between the law and, the law as applied in practice is vast. The law provides funding for homeless people, but this often leads to discrimination because it is so difficult to gain access to these funds. Roscoe Pound, one of the most cited legal scholars of the 20th century, points out how the laws on the street too often differ from the laws on the books and result in discrimination. Homeless people suffer from government bureaucracy that makes it almost impossible for a homeless person to successfully receive aid without help from others. The application process for applying for aid is both strenuous and difficult, that requires a level of literacy skills and legal expertise that would likely preclude an otherwise healthy person from becoming homeless in the first place. In order to fix this injustice, experiments in the field of healthcare and government policy, must be applied to help the homeless in our community in D.C.. To solve the homelessness epidemic, we need to expand collaborations between institutions that already exist in D.C.to help the homeless and create a housing first plan that provides both rapid housing for the temporarily homeless and permanent supportive housing for those who are chronically homeless. This policy change may seem intuitive give homeless people housing , however detractors argue that it is a naive approach to a complex issue that also costs too much. ... The concentrations of 0%, 1%, 5%, and 10% seem to have a deceleration curve and that maybe due because they reached a point of equilibrium so they start to level off. You can also see that the absorption is proportional to the concentration, because it increase due to it concentration and that may be due to the ethanol that the beetroots where in. Since the beetroots sat in ethanol while the time being it made the membrane more permeable, allowing the salts to either increase the diffusion of the betacyanins or decrease it. In regards to sociology, symbolic interactionism is ideal for examining the way in which sociological theory relates to transgender issues. This is because symbolic interactionism is the study of how people relate to one another and their environment, but specifically how the relations between each other have an effect on their environment. Without these rules it would be like a barbaric world where everyone has to find their own food for survival. When people had the idea of a making rules to follow it started a society that needs rules to be followed in order to get anything done. With the creation of rules people can get more things done with structure of rules. Without these rules everyone will act more savage than the normal person acts today. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding uses the conflict to show that Ralph is civilized, and that Jack is showing signs of savagery. Ralph being civilized could help him be more alarmed about what goes around him and make better decisions faster. When Ralph was voted leader he wanted first to make rules for everyone on the island to follow. Making rules and choosing a leader like a government is being more civilized compared to just hunting for meat. Rules is a great way to start of being leader of a group of young kids. When everyone was talking at once he thought of the rule. The rule was, I ll give the conch to the next person to speak he can hold it when he is speaking (Golding 33). This rule also said that only Ralph could interrupt because he was the chief. By Ralph setting these rules it shows a governmental state which is more civilized. He proclaimed and he defined that a woman s world should be limited to just her husband, her family, her children, and her home . The rights of German women were greatly repressed since Nazi ideology regarding gender was extremely traditionalist. As the testimonies of Holocaust survivors Sonia Berson, Vlakdka Meed, and Renee Firestone prove, through their resilience and resourcefulness, that Jewish women could prevent Hitler from ultimately attaining his Final Solution. While some Holocaust scholarship dismisses the importance of establishing a difference between female and male experiences during the Shoah, it is clear that experiences between men and women followed a very gendered divide. Although the final solution certainly called for the death of every woman, man and child defined as a Jew , it differed from any previous historical event in that it explicitly targeted women and children rather than treating them as civilian causalities. In fact, historians identify the Nazi brutality towards women and children as the ultimate symbol of barbarity. Although some historians argue that examining the Holocaust through a gendered lens desecrates the memory of the dead , it is important to remember the experiences that women had that were unique to their sexuality. By ignoring the intrinsically female experiences of the Holocaust, scholars are greatly doing a disservice to half of the Jewish population targeted during the Nazi genocide. Women posed a significantly more dangerous threat to the Nazis since they had the ability to propagate the Jewish race. From the onset of the Nazi regime, therefore, Jewish women ... In their undeveloped state, floodplains play an important role in flooding. Natural floodplains reduce wind and wave impacts and their vegetation stabilizes soils ( Flood hazard , n.d.). • 25. John Winthrop And The Puritan Movement There is no doubt that writings of Jonathan Edward s and John Winthrop had a tremendous influence in the Puritan movement in the new world. They helped set values and establish order in the new communities. Both writings deliver on puritan principles and had a critical role in shaping much of the puritan religious beliefs, but granting all this they are tremendously different. The reason why these writings have so little in common, despite both being puritan doctrines, is because of the different situations each was written in. When Edwards was writing his sermon he was beginning to witness deterioration in the original puritan communities. He felt that the religious ideals first established by his predecessor Winthrop were slipping among the puritans. Edwards wanted to have an impact on his readers. To him it was more effective using scare tactics over positive encouragement to discuss proper conduct and God s wrath. Edwards wanted to make sure the members of puritan society understood just how important their behavior and conduct while on earth was. He wrote about the certain punishments that awaited in hell for those who did not properly adhere to the puritan religious values. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God is full of strong and vivid images of hell, comparing hell to a pit of fire and depicts how Unconverted men walk over the pit of hell on a rotten covering (Edwards). Analysis Of Bram Stoker s Dracula Voluptuous Vampire or Proper Prude Written and set in the late 19th century, Bram Stoker s epistolary novel Dracula is a pivotal book in gothic/horror literature. Like most novels written by men, Dracula appeals more to the male audience and their fantasies and fears about women than to the Victorian Age woman. In the novel, Lucy and Mina are the only two female characters the reader meets in detail, and they are also the only two characters that are seen becoming vampires indeed, they are the only major vampire characters, with the exception of the chief antagonist, who are described in detail within the novel. The fact that Stoker has chosen to include such an important contrast between the two major characters so early in the novel suggests that it will play an important part in the narrative. The reader later learns that this difference is essential to the plot, as it is only Mina s purity and innocence that allows the group to defeat Dracula at the end of the novel, and ultimately saves Mina from Lucy s fate. Lucy s part in the novel may be relatively short, yet her role is essential to the audience s understanding of the novel s message about female roles and female sexuality in Victorian society since she is the first victim of Count Dracula. At the same time, Lucy is the only character whose transformation into a vampire Stoker describes in detail: At times she slept, and both Van Helsing and I noticed the difference in her, between sleeping and waking. There are literary techniques such as voice, point of view, character, theme, and symbolism. One very interesting technique is that of symbolism. With symbolism the author is able to write a story in which many of the actions around the main character seem to enhance the way the character develops. The use of symbolism to develop the characters is easy to see in the short story the chrysanthemums by John Steinback. A light wind blew up from the southwest so that the farmers were mildly hopeful of a good rain before long; but fog and rain do not go together. Elisa can not say much about her current situation, she has to calmly weight for something to happen. This can be seen when her husband jokes about her going to the fights with her. At the time she says nothing, because it would be absurd for her to go with him. However, after she grows up at the end of the story she expresses her interest to go with him. The symbol of the possibly of rain shows how Elisa anticipates that something interesting in her life may happen, but deep down she knows that there is a very low probability that anything would actually happen. Elisa s bath is another good symbol that Steinback uses to develop Elisa s character. When she, scrubbed herself with a little block of pumice. . . until her skin was scratched and red. In the year 1979, the Bristol Zoo gained a new animal which would become one of their biggest attractions. Misha the male polar bear caught the eye of the public with his unusual and odd behavior. Researchers that studied animal rights in the late twentieth century linked this behavior to Misha s enclosure at the zoo.
