Stereotypes Of Student Athletes
Okay I ll sign this paper, but this doesn t mean you re excused and you can t make up the participation
points you ll miss. My first thought, then why are you signing the paper? I m a student athlete here at
Tulane University. My sport is Track and Field and I am a hurdler. As a student athlete, one of my
responsibilities is to inform professors of when I ll be out of class due to a meet and to have them sign
a form saying it s okay to miss their class. On quite a few of these occasions I ve heard the first quote
above. These professors believe that I am the stereotypical athlete. There are these ongoing
stereotypes that student athletes are dumb, lazy, and privileged. It s understandable that people believe
these stereotypes, news magazines and reports are always talking about how athletes are coddled and
cheat their way to success. Though it is nowhere near true for the majority of student athletes, a select
few situations encourage this negative categorization of us, thus putting student athletes under even
more pressure to perform. Student athletes are constantly misjudged and the assumptions are affecting
us. For example, in his article Checking Athlete s Privilege, Michael Kasdan writes, Giving star
athletes preferential treatment doesn t begin in college. It starts much younger. The coddling, the
entourages, the brushing aside of academic requirements (OK we ll say it: cheating) ...But we sure do
master it by the time those athletes get through the

Odette Symbolism In Black Swan
Achieving perfection is not easy, and some may even say it is impossible. In 2010, Darren Aronofsky
s thought provoking film Black Swan was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best
Picture. The movie focuses on ballet dancer Nina as she lands the lead role in the New York Ballet
Company s Swan Lake. She has an obsession with becoming perfect and because of this, she slowly
slips into a state of madness and jealously of her understudy. The ballet of Swan Lake has many
interpretations, but the main story revolves around Odette the Swan Queen who has a cursed placed on
her by the evil Rothbart. In order to break the curse placed upon her, someone must fall in love with
her, but instead the Prince is tricked into falling in love with her ... Show more content on

The story of Swan Lake and Black Swan parallel, but when the movie does an actual performance of
the ballet, the aesthetic of ballet reflects the movie s themes overall. While the choreography remains
the same, the colors are much darker than a normal stage production would be. Since the film is a
thriller with a dark tone, the colors fit the mood better than the bright, cool colors of a normal stage
production. Even in the scenes with the White Swan, the color palette is somewhat more somber than
normal. The lighting has a red tent to it when Nina is dancing the White Swan. This could be a symbol
of even when she is most innocent, there is still darkness surrounding her. She also messes up during
that time as well so the red could also be adding to the fact that she is so far gone by the Black Swan
that she can no longer dance the White Swan. Also, the costuming of the antagonist, Rothbart, is much
more monster like and bulky than the original slim leotard that is easy to dance and move with. This is
to show how small Nina is compared to him, and that the darkness that is inside of her can overcome
her. He is not shown much throughout the film, but when he does he seems to blend in as compared to
Nina s overall psychological turmoil. Finally, the Black Swan appearance is much more sinister that
the ballet version, with its dark wings and red eyes. The audience only sees

Green Peace
We interviewed Andra Zommers from Greenpeace. The questions we asked were as follows:
1) What is Greenpeace?
2) How is Greenpeace run/structured?
3) Why did you get involved in the environment? (Your motivation)
4) Why Greenpeace?
5) In your opinion, where is the greatest concern?
6) Is there any Spiritual emphasis Greenpeace has or that you personally have?
7) What is Greenpeace s vision for the future?
8) What gives you hope?

Personally, Andra believes that there is a special healing and renewing connection with nature and the
spirit. Although not a formal religion, she believes with many ideas of other religions like karma and
reincarnation. Her spiritualism seemed not to be a very big motivation to her. She also expressed that
most people in Greenpeace have no real spiritual emphasis.
Greenpeace s vision is that the researching new solutions and alternate approaches will lead to a green
and peaceful future. Specifically, they want to protect the oceans, ancient forests, get rid of fossil fuels
and work towards complete reliance on natural resources and their protection.
Personally, hope comes from seeing one individual change their stance or approach. When people take
a genuine interest and change in their lives it gives hope for the larger battle. The organization keeps
going because of the results and solutions that come about from their existence. Their protests and
campaigns have been the source of many changes and even affecting the United Nations. One example
is that they introduced a new fridge cooling system called greenfreeze. The old coolants harmed the
environment, and even after bans the replacements were just as bad. Now almost all fridges use the
greenfreeze system, which was invented by greenpeace, but not patent so other companies could use it
without charge.
I learnt a lot about Greenpeace the organization. I had preconceived notions that they were political

How Did The Declaration Of Independence Affect The...
History has given great attention to the ideas of republicanism by systematically defining the
revolutionary movement. We must look back find the origin of republicanism and how it played a role
in justifying the Revolution. Specifically, did the Declaration of Independence reflect republican
values? If so, did this have any significance on how women were a part of the revolution both ideally
and in action? Republicanism was an ideology of governing a nation as a republic. The belonging and
governing allowed the foundation for great strides for society. It allowed individuals the right to
pursue life in a manner that grants them liberty and provides happiness. Securing the ideals and
theories of reform in the government allowed for growth and instituted consent of the governed among
men and women.

subordinate to males and were subject to laws and regulations imposed by men. However, the role of

over 45,000 people were living in the city and were primarily spread along Jefferson Avenue to the
east and Fort Street to the west. The street starts in the heart of Detroit Financial District, where it is
dominated by skyscrapers. This includes the Penobscout Building, an office tower, that was built in
1928. Upon completion, the building was the eighth tallest building in the world, the fourth tallest in

Latin America Essay
Latin America
An Overview of Economy, Business and Challenges
Introduction
Latin America suffered during the years of 1980 1990 with political instability and low growth rates.
Nowadays the situation is different, the region is improving towards economic stability and grater
democracy, however the reforms performed during the last decade are still incomplete. High rates of
poverty and bad income distribution remain as the main problems of the region. The last few years has
shown that Latin America economy is getting stronger and growing at unprecedented rates in the
recent decades, making the environment for business much more attractive.

Even inside the region is possible to find examples of favorable effects of a high trade openness, the
experiences of Chile (through unilateral liberalization) and Mexico (strongly benefited from NAFTA
and a bigger trade with USA). One topic pointed by the World Economic Forum on Latin America as
key factor for the development of the region is the necessity to adapt to the increasing participation of
China and India in the economy of the world. At the same time, China is becoming a important
importer of commodities from Latin America and a competitor in textiles and labor intensive
manufacture goods. The region have to take advantage of the opportunities raised by China s growing
economy and, at the same time, adapt to its competition.
Consumer Characteristics
The Latin America consumer market is composed of 550 million emerging consumers, with average
yearly per capita incomes of USD 4,000, immense natural resources and substantial human capital. It
accounts for eight percent of world production and grew by more than five percent in the past three
years. The consumer market in Latin America is very diversified, is not just an aggregate of low
income and poor consumers, as most people would think. It is highly segmented, their differences,

Glenohumeral Joint Research Paper
The Glenohumeral Joint and its
Function Within the Human Body
The glenohumeral joint, or shoulder joint, is one of the human body s appendicular joints and boasts
the greatest ROM (range of motion) of any joint in the body. An appendicular joint is a joint that is
part of the appendicular skeleton which includes the pectoral girdle, pelvic girdle, and limb bones. The
appendicular joints typically have a larger range of motion, but due to this are often weaker than those
found in the axial skeleton. The glenohumeral joint is responsible for articulating movement of the
upper arm by way of pivoting the humerus at the point that it meets with the scapula. There are many
different classifications of joints within the human body and the glenohumeral joint is classified as a
ball and socket joint which is one of six different synovial joints present in the body. A synovial joint
is a joint that contains articular cartilage, joint capsules, and synovial membranes. A ball and socket
joint is a joint that can be described as a ball that fits into a cup shaped dock allowing motion in all
directions. This arrangement allows the bone to employ three different types of movement, angular,
rotation, and circumduction. This structure is what allows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is due in large part to the significant presence of a synovial membrane nestled between the ball
(humerus) and the socket (scapula). The synovial membrane is particular to freely movable joint
cavities and is a cushion between the two bones. As briefly mentioned previously, synovial joints
contain articular cartilage which covers bones at the joint , joint capsules a sac that covers the ends of
bones , and synovial membranes fluid that serves to reduce friction, provide shock cushioning, and
lubricates. These features are key in the glenohumeral joint because it has such a large ROM and is
subject to more shock than many other joints in the

The Six Principals Of Persuasion
Six Principals of Persuasion To run a successful business there are many qualities a person needs to
have. Some things are inherently given such as charm and good looks. There are also qualities than
can be learned like the art of being an eloquent speaker or how to be a persuasive speaker. The art of
persuasion can be delicate, you aim is to persuade you audience not to manipulate them. It is very
important not to confuse the two. On the one hand you are using facts to convey your point on the
other you are attempting to play on the emotions of your audience. Robert Cialdini explains it best
with his six principals of persuasion. The Principal of Reciprocity is the first of Robert Cialdini s
principals of persuasion. Reciprocity simply means a mutual exchange of privileges (Merriam
Webster. n.d.). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This principal teaches you how the clients appreciate commitment and consistency but also how you
can get commitment and consistency from your client. All you have to do is provide a timely and
consistent product or service and your part is done. To get your client to keep coming back to you,
there are a few things you can ask of them such as something small like writing a review of your
services, or rewarding them for their loyalty to your company. By getting your customer to write a
review, you are already helping yourself with the next principal of persuasion. Fifth, we have the
Principal of Consensus. It is true that people follow the path of least resistance and have a pack
mentality. One of the first things people do before they decide to buy a product is to read the customer
reviews. If majority of the people like it then it is more likely that they will buy it. Celebrity
endorsements and personal testimonials are some of the most effective ways to persuade you
audience. If you are selling sneakers you would not have Betty White endorse you, rather you would
have an athlete like Kobe

Compare And Contrast The Russian Revolution And Chinese...
Throughout history, many countries have called for revolutions whose goals and outcomes affected the
government during its time, in order to enforce a change in the current form of government. In 1911, a
revolution was led by Sun Yat Sen in China between the imperial government or the Qing and the
nationalists. China s revolution s eventual outcome led to a conflict between the communists and the
nationalists in China whose goals contrasted each other significantly. During World War I, a revolution
in Russia occurred, led by Vladimir Lenin in 1917. The revolution in Russia affected the proletariat,
the Bourgeoisie, and the corrupted leadership of the Tsarist government as a whole. Although these
distinct revolutions occurred in two different countries, their outcomes are similar as they both show
how communism and the inequality of the workers and classes impacted the countries both
economically and politically.

troops had to steal from the rich and give to the poor in order to keep the higher class from overruling
and starving the peasants completely. While Russia was able to please the proletariat, the Chinese was
not supported by the peasants living in urban areas and the demands of the agrarian population were
not satisfied. Lenin was able to better meet the goals of every interest group while promoting Marx in

Hawthorne’s Use of Allegory
The Minister s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a short story that was first published in the 1836
edition of the Token and Atlantic Souvenir and reappeared over time in Twice Told Tales, a collection
of short stories by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The short story narrates the events that follow Reverend Mr.
Hooper s decision to start wearing a black veil that obscures his full face, except for his mouth and
chin. Mr. Hooper simply arrives one day at the meeting house wearing the semi transparent black veil
and refuses from that moment on to take it off, which leads to the loss of his fiancée and isolation
from the world. Mr. Hooper even goes as far as to insist on burial in the black veil. Yet, what is crucial
to note are Mr. Hooper s last ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This particular idea serves to underscore even further the hypocrisy of human nature and emphasize
the ironic aspects of the short story.
The themes of the story serve to explicate the universal nature of all human beings. These themes
include, for example, shame, guilt, the nature of sinning and morality. With regard to shame, whilst it
is true that the veil covers Mr. Hooper s face, it does at the same time expose the nature of sin as one
embedded deep inside humans. In other words, the veil exposes the sin existent in the world which
makes the townspeople grow more and more uncomfortable. These feelings of discomfort are thus the
result of being faced with the shame within. The more one has learned to ignore the sense of shame at
the sins committed, and the darkness surrounded by, the more he or she is incapable of facing Mr.
Hooper. This leads the discussion to the second theme in the short story: guilt s hidden nature. Indeed,
most townspeople are faced with guilt suppressed upon looking at Mr. Hooper as they have never had
to face a physical form of their guilt. However, Mr. Hooper s didactic usage of the veil serves as a
constant reminder of that which is rather forgotten: sins committed. Using this as a reason, many of
the townspeople chose to ignore Mr. Hooper instead of facing their own veils. However, the Reverend
convinces the townspeople that everyone shares sins no matter what attempt is made to

Qualitative Research In Health Care
1. Introduce importance of qualitative interviews
Altarum will conduct a set of qualitative research interviews with a panel of 15 payer or resource
optimization experts that are representative of all sectors in healthcare. In terms of health services
delivery, it has been highlighted that one set standard of rules for reducing low value care overuse
depends greatly the how providers define the term and assess their options. In efforts to effectively
influence guidelines in cost sharing, policy and value based payments, it is necessary to grasp the crux
of low value care measures from a grouping of expert providers. With an emphasis placed on the

This process begins with each individual expert prepared to engage half of the interviewees by
providing a supplemental overview and seeking permission to record the interview. With a foundation
rooted in qualitative research best practices, semi structured interviews will take place that meets our
identified topical trajectory with the ability to diverge. Deviation may momentously occur when the
interviewee reveals new approaches and/or recommendations that challenge disparities in the delivery
of care. These incidents are gravely invaluable to data collection and additionally supports the
significance of capturing each interview by recording. Researchers that do not record or have a
secondary route to capturing their interviews have to focus on taking their own notes during the
process which often produces unreliable summaries and diminishes the affinity between the
interviewee researcher. Both aspects in qualitative research are necessary when it comes to fostering
an environment that allows interviewees to extend our knowledge while preserving the integrity of the
data being collected. Semi structured interviews are less controlled but still warrants uniformity in
information obtained. Moreover, this method sustains replication for enhancing the matrix while
significantly reducing limitations on what is captured. This is often a challenge

Comparing The Parthenon And The Pantheon
3
The Parthenon and the Pantheon
The Parthenon in Athens and the Pantheon in Rome are two of the most influential buidlings of
modern and ancient architecture, and are often confused. It s easy to see why a person would get the
two confused, there are some amazing similarities. However, once you have explored each structure in
a bit more depth, you wonder how you could have confused them in the first place.
The Parthenon was constructed during the Arthenian empire beginning in 447 B.C. and completed in
432 B.C. (Silverman, 2015) Using elements from both the Doric and Ionic orders, it optimizes Greek
architecture with a sculpted frieze (band of sculptures near the roof) depicting Greek Gods and
Goddesses, making this a distinctly Greek building. The other elements that make this building very
Greek are the columns and the multiple statues of gods and goddesses. The Parthenon was built as a
temple to the goddess Athena; the sculptor Phedias was responsible for the massive statue placed in
the temple. (Parthenon, 2017) Although it s initial intention was for religious purposes, the building
also served as a treasury for a time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the gods . (Pantheon Rome, 2017) Even though the origins appear to be very similar, even borrowing
its name from the Greeks, the Pantheon is distinctly Roman. Looking at the entrance you would
immediately get the impression of Greek architecture with its massive columns and portico entrance.
However, once inside, the building takes on a completely different feel. The Romans were masters of
the dome structure, and the Pantheon has the world s largest that is not reinforced with steel in

Beloved Jungle Imagery
In Toni Morrison s Beloved, Stamp Paid considers the impact of slavery on all of those involved. He
uses references to an untamed jungle in order to convey the concept spreading corruption. Morrison
utilizes threatening diction through jungle imagery in order to establish a theme of corruption caused
through slavery.
Morrison uses jungle imagery to represent the spreading corruption from slavery. When addressing the
jungle that white people think lives within their slaves, Stamp Paid describes it as Swift unnavigable
waters, winging screaming baboons, sleeping snakes, red gums read for their sweet white blood .
Here, Morrison uses the wild jungle imagery to display the unkempt and untamable demeanor of the

When Stamp Paid discusses the effects of the jungle/slavery on white people he states, Touched them
every one . Here, a syntax is utilized that eliminates the subject of the sentence that is performing the
action of touching . The elimination of the subject within this syntax acts to convey the jungle/slavery
as threatening due to its vagueness, as it is not even given a title within the sentence. The perceived
threat of the unnamed subject in conjunction with the intrusive diction of the verb that it is enacting,
touching , acts to emphasize the invasive nature of the threat of the jungle/slavery on white people.
Stamp Paid utilizes the same syntax when further discussing its impact on white people: Changed and
altered them . The syntax here eliminates the subject as well, providing the same sense of a threat due
to the vague address of it. This syntax with the further threatening diction of changed and altered
being performed by the unnamed subject causes it to be further seem as a threat. The unnamed subject
is in reference to slavery, thus, Morrison utilizes syntax in this manner in order to further emphasize
the theme of corruption through slavery, as it expresses that slavery is invasive for the white people
and, in turn, causes them to become

Summary Of Literacy, Discourse, And Linguistics
The author s main argument in Literacy, Discourse, and Linguistics is that the focus of literacy studies
or applied linguistics should be social practices (Discourse) rather than language. Many people tend to
think of language as perfect grammar , but language is about what you say, how you say it, what you
are, and do when you say something. Gee elaborates on this claim by describing two responses of

He did this to raise funds towards his military campaigns. During these years, Napoleon reestablished
a French aristocracy, that was eliminated during the French revolution, and began handing out titles of
nobility to his loyal friends and family as his empire continued to expand across much of western and
central continental Europe. He did this so he didn t have to manage all of his armies/colonies at once,
and could therefore manage his main army on all of his conquests. As far as political and civil liberties
were concerned, Napoleon largely suppressed them with strict censorship and the establishment of a
virtual police state in order to protect his power. However, Napoleon saw equality as a politically
useful concept that he could maintain with little threat to his position. After all, everyone, at least all
men, were equally under his power. One of his main accomplishments as a ruler was the establishment
of the Napoleonic Civil Law Codes, which made all men equal under the law while maintaining their
legal power over women. Therefore, any hopes women may have had of the Revolution improving
their legal position were thwarted by Napoleon. Napoleon saw nationalism as crucial to maintaining
the loyalty of the French people to his regime. After all, it was the spirit of nationalism that had
inspired its armies in a remarkable series of victories that had especially benefited Napoleon and

Every single story in the entire world has character development in some form. In the story The
Necklace, written by Guy de Maupassant, Mathilde, a middle classed woman that has always wanted
to be wealthy, loses a necklace that was not hers. She does not tell the person that gave it to her and
this causes a lot of problems, including her having to get the money back. Mathilde ends up buying a
real diamond necklace not knowing that the necklace that she lost was only paste. Through these trials
of loss and stress, the author shows the real character of Mathilde. Authors use these trials to develop
the character. How doe Guy de Maupassant do it? He develops the character of Mathilde by showing
her comments, feelings, and general attitude for things.
Whenever the author shows Mathilde s comments, it develops her character. In the story it says And

that? This evidence shows that Mathilde s character blames her troubles on other people and that she

collected in relation to integrating communities. This was then followed by the key significance to the
main objective which is gathering data. To help with the findings and analysis, the research has to be
focused more on areas where communities benefit through people of different backgrounds living
together and sharing basic commodities, these could be sharing a kitchen, communal gardens, open
spaces and even a bench in the public park.2 As there are quite a number of diverse people in the
community, a lot of information was collected from them through one on one discussion. Although the
information collected was not very satisfactory, care had to be taken as to select what to use. This was
also the issue with selecting case studies which deals specifically with sociable housing which in these
communities is widely known as co housing. The evidence collected from sources had to be carefully
selected and used accordingly. A model was then developed to assess how people of different
background can be incorporated through various substances. This was then implemented within
separate case studies and the results explored and analysed. The model was then tried on another
project to see if it works.
The method of research used in this thesis is by use

Search Of Self Written By Virginia M. Axline And Published...
This following nonfiction is Dibs: In Search of Self written by Virginia M. Axline and published by
the Random House Publishing Group in America during 1964. The plot revolves around a young 5
year old boy that is emotionally deprived from his parents and is mentally unstable around other
individuals. The little boy would often hide in the corner of the classroom or under tables to avoid
human contact, and when someone his age were to approach him, he would try to scratch or kick
them. Virginia Axline is the primary psychologist that directed the play therapy for Dibs. His parents
and school board deemed Dibs to be autistic, but psychologists believed that Dibs was simply
misunderstood. Axline developed a Non Directive Play Therapy to help Dibs overcome his hatred
towards his parents and the fear of being isolated. The book consists of a theme of acknowledging and
allowing children to express their psychological and emotional needs. Virginia Axline was highly
influence by the person centered theory of Carl Rogers. She created this non directed play to counsel
young children who are suffering psychological, emotional, or behavioral complications. She
exemplifies a salutary relationship with the child in a desirable, nonjudgmental setting for the child to
feel free to his/her emotions. She also embodies the distinction between the therapist and the child,
and that the therapist must absolutely accept the child and rely on the child to find their own solutions

1.Introduction
1.1 Aim
During the 6 hands on individual labs before this mini project, we have learnt the design and
implementation of filter and oscillator, together with applied characterization of different components.
The objective of Mini Project was for students to demonstrate their innovative design skills and
implement knowledge learnt in lectures to real life product design. Therefore, we aimed to integrate
what we learnt in individual labs into one single product, which is a Voice
Disguiser that can solve practical problems of witness protection.

2.2 Microphone Unit
The microphone was implemented to allow the user to transmit speaker s voice as analog voice signal
from the audio socket. The analog voice signal captured by the microphone is then needed to pass
through an amplifier circuit. The amplitude of this voice signal can be amplified from millivolts to
volts so that the signal becomes easier to for us work with in following implementations. As figure 2
shown, this amplifier circuit is built by firstly connecting the microphone input through the positive
input terminal of the LM358 chip. Secondly, a feedback loop is built through the output and negative
terminal. Then the analog voice signal captured by the microphone is, therefore, amplified.
Figure 2: Schematic Of Microphone Unit
The resistance values of R4 and R3 is purposely chosen for an amplifier gain of 5.7. As shown in
Figure 3, a significant amplifying effect of the microphone voice signal can been seem afer passing
through the amplifier.
Figure 3: Waveform Of Voice Signal Before (Blue) And After (Yellow) Amplifier
Based on oscilloscope detection, the peak to peak value of microphone voice signal before amplifier is
220mV, while the one after the amplifier is 1.28V. The actual amplifier gain is therefore 5.8
(1.28/0.22), which is very close to the designed value of 5.7.

Alcoholism In Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn
Alcoholism is a very unique addiction in today s society. It is unique because those who are affected
are addicted to substance that is legal at a certain age and has low governmental regulations pertaining
to its use. The idea of alcoholism was prevalent in many works in the pre prohibition era. One of those
was Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. Huckleberry Finn follows as a sequel to the adventures of Tom
Sawyer with a different protagonist by the name of Huck Finn. Throughout the story, he goes on a life
changing adventure that changes the way he views life. One of the many themes in this story is
alcoholism and the impact it has on the characters of the story. The reason for Twain including aspects
of alcoholism is to raise awareness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to American Addiction Centers, alcoholism causes a person to face problems in their life,
from their work to their home, and they cannot control their drinking (3). They also experience
withdrawal symptoms when they do not drink (3). Twain mentions this physiological effect in
Huckleberry Finn, referring to it as delirium tremens. Delirium tremens is a severe form of alcohol
withdrawal that results in sudden mental or nervous system changes(4). Pap, the father of the
protagonist, is one of the characters that reveal their alcohol addiction. Pap is the abusive, racist, and
ignorant character that constantly drinks and revolves his life around alcohol. In the story, Huck
describes a psychotic episode that Pap experiences. He chased me round and round the place with a
clasp knife, calling me the Angel of Death, and saying he would kill me... (5). Twain writes about one
of the dangers of alcoholism being the withdrawal symptoms that an alcoholic experiences. The
human body and mind is not in its natural state and alcohol is the reason for that. One can see that this
can happen and delirium tremens is a legitimate medical condition. This part of the story highlights
the danger that Huck encountered due to Pap s drinking. He was chased around by his father who
thought he was an Angel of Death. There are other signs and symptoms of alcoholism in Huckleberry
Finn that Twain touches

The Low Water Levels in Lake Bridgeport
Lake Bridgeport was built in 1930 for flood control, water storage and recreation. Tarrant County
owns the land and water that makes the lake. There is a spillway that takes water through the Trinity
River to Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Worth. This year has been a rough year for Lake Bridgeport
with three digit temperatures and draining water to the other lakes. Since one of the purposes to build
Lake Bridgeport was for storage, The Tarrant County water district approved to let out 20,000 acre
feet of water from Lake Bridgeport to prevent the other lakes to be low. But 2013 is anything but a
normal year. Today, what once was a scenic lake is covered in chest high weeds. Boaters and
fisherman enjoy going to Lake Bridgeport during the summer. But in the summer of 2013 the boat
ramps were unusable so the number of residents going to the lake dropped. There are dead fish
floating to the shoreline as well as many other wildlife animals. The lake tested positive for Zebra
Mussel larva, which is shell like creatures that are very sharp and stick to boats, anchors and docks.
The Mussels are very dangerous for the lake environment, but they also eat bacteria so they could help
the lake water clear up. If no water is drained out of Lake Bridgeport then the residents of Eagle
Mountain Lake and Lake Worth could possibly run out of drinking water.
Problem: The Lake is the place to be on a hot summer day, but how is it supposed to be any fun when
the lake is drying up each day.

The Theory Of Egoism And Altruism
In this paper I will argue that selecting only one form of egoism is not enough to explain human
motives and that it takes a mix of several theories to explain it, specifically a mix of ethical egoism
and altruism, with the side note that intent is not important in this situation. The mix is important, as
any one theory seemingly fails to encapsulate the scope of human interactions. Pure ethical egoism,
the idea that each person should only try to help themselves, makes people out to be too greedy and
seemingly unwilling to help anyone at any point in their lives. Pure altruism, the idea that people
should use their abilities and advantages to exclusively help others, makes people too willing to
sacrifice what they have for someone else. If people were completely altruistic nothing would ever be
accomplished and eventually those advantages would become erased as people stop working to better
themselves. I also believe that the intent of the action is not important so the morality of the action
should be directly tied to the outcome, not the thought process of the person doing the action. All of
these ideas will be explained in more detail later in the paper. This paper will look at each of these
three factors individually, show why they are insufficient for explaining human motives on their own
and then explain how they can all work in conjunction to better explain human motives. This paper
will then go on to show how someone might disagree with this thesis by providing some

A Report On Korean Industrial Production
Introduction
VoC approach does not provide sufficient prototypes.
South Korea is SME
Turkey is also SME because it has similar characteristics. State policies are similar.
However, outcomes of these state policies are quite different (give figures) In the mid 1950 s, Turkey
was a much richer country than Korea. With about the same population, Turkish GNP was about three
times that of Korea, Turkish exports were fifteen times those of Korea, and the Turkish savings rate
was much higher than Korean. By 1980, the situation was dramatically reversed, as Turkish income
was 40 percent below Korea s, Turkish exports were less than one fourth those of Korea and the
Turkish savings rate was about two thirds of Korea s. (Krueger)
There are either economic advantages or economic disadvantages to a military alliance with the
United States, both countries had them. And, insofar as proximity to a rapidly growing region of the
world affects growth, Turkey and Korea had Europe and Japan, respectively (Krueger).
Korean industrial production rose forty five fold between 1960 and 1984, whereas Turkish industrial
production was 6.6 times higher in the same period. (Yilmaz)
During the period 1963 1990, total factor productivity (TFP) increased at an average rate of 2.4
percent in Korea. In this period, TFP in Turkey increased at an average rate of almost 0.9 percent.

The Effects Of Plastic Pollution In No Impact Man By Colin...
In the novel No Impact Man by Colin Beavan, Beavan takes a deep look into how people have
destroyed the ocean and marine life from all the pollution that we put into the ocean. Pollution in the
ocean is a pretty big topic that Beaven covers, but more specifically he focuses on the effects of plastic
pollution on the ocean. Approximately 13,000 15,000 pieces of plastic are dumped into the ocean
every day worldwide, causing the ocean and marine life to suffer on a daily basis, we need to change
this statistic by limiting the use of plastic in our everyday lives ( Plastic Statistics , 2015). We throw
out so much plastic on a daily basis without thinking about what effect it might have on our planet and
on us. It is time that we are aware that our constant plastic use has a negative effect on marine life, and
it is time that we change our bad plastic habit. Plastic comes in many different forms wether it is
plastic bags, straw, Starbucks cups, etc we use plastic in our everyday lives. We are constantly
surrounded by plastic. The problem with the constant use of plastic is how we abuse it, and we do not
even realize how harmful plastic is. We abuse our plastic consumption so much that 50 percent of the
plastic we use, we use just once and then we throw it away in the garbage can, not the recycling bin (

goes or what happens to it. People do not even realize that most of the

Moral Realism, Moral Relativism, And Moral Skepticism
When people hear the term ethics, most of their minds turn to dilemmas discussed by figures such as
Immanuel Kant, Jeremy Bentham, Aristotle, and other famous philosophers. These men debated what
is considered to be morally good and how a person can become ethical. Operating under normative
ethics, these philosophers did not question whether or not ethics even existed, but rather if they exist,
what are they? The branch of ethics that questions the foundation of ethics and morality is metaethics.
There are three standpoints when debating metaethics: moral realism, moral relativism, and moral
skepticism. I will be discussing my argument for moral realism and contend that moral relativism and
skepticism are inaccurate. I will prove the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, in America, it is not uncommon to see a child spanked for misbehaving or disobeying his
or her parent. However, in Sweden, this action is not only illegal, not also frowned upon. A moral
relativist would explain that this is because moral facts can exist and be objective in America, but can
be still objective and independent of Sweden s morals. Lastly, disagreeing with both moral realist and
relativists, moral skeptics believe there are no moral facts; all morals are equivalent to opinions, and
they are different for everyone. Moral skepticism says that all morals are simply rules created to
control humans and their behaviors. For example, the moral skeptic would argue that the reason
controversy exists over issues such as abortion is that each person has opinions that are independent of
others. Skeptics would also say that there are no right answers to moral dilemmas, because each
person will come to a different conclusion.
The validity of realism in metaethics exists based on the fact that humans have certain physical
attributes that occur as a reaction of how we act we have physical reactions when something morally
wrong occurs. More specifically, the human anatomy responds negatively to unethical activities. For
example, the idea of lying is prima facie ethically wrong according to realism; telling the truth is
objectively ethical. This is proven to be true based on the human body alone; it naturally reacts when
we lie by raising our heart

Portability Of The Electrical Hardware Housing Structure...
Portability
Many properties of our prototype contributed to its portability. The electrical hardware housing
structure for our prototype measured in at 7.375 x 6.375 x 5.000 , which allowed for a small yet fully
functional device. These relatively small dimensions allowed us to easily transport our prototype
without concern of having to make accommodations for its size. Our prototype was composed of
simple PVC plastic sheets. We cut these sheets to the desired dimensions and attached them using bent
aluminum sheet metal. We used 6 32 threaded nuts and bolts to fasten the metal angle brackets to the
PVC sheets. This combination of materials and fasteners used to create the housing structure for our
electrical components made for a strong, yet lightweight prototype. This strength allowed for our
structure to be free standing and added a component of durability without adding to the size or weight
significantly. Also, this housing structure contained all of our wires and components meaning that
there were no extraneous pieces protruding from the structure. This uniform structure kept
components from getting snagged by outside materials during transport. By producing the prototype
from these materials at the given dimensions, we were able to create a prototype structure that
displayed durability, strength, and functionality while remaining quite portable.

Choosing To My Life By Corrie Ten Boom
Any step that removes sorrow from your life is a step in the right direction. Choosing to invite
happiness into your life is the journey most worthy to embark these steps on. I ve come up with three
steps that justify the values of a quote from Corrie ten Boom that says, Worry does not empty
tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength. For anyone going through a sorrowful
situation, a happier lifestyle is a few thoughts away. The three steps to a happier life in the midst of a
sad situation is: accepting a problem for what it is, letting go of negativity, and thinking positivity.
The first step to releasing worry from your life is accepting the problem you are facing. My struggle

Worrying too much will not create a better tomorrow. Once a person gives up a pessimistic lifestyle,
he or she can gain control over their thoughts and emotions. Letting go of negativity leaves you
vulnerable to have thoughts that still may not improve your well being. You must choose to see the
good in the world and find something to believe in. Personally, I believe that for every heartbreak in
life, there is also something to to be rejoiced. Learning that a loved one has cancer is devastating, but
seeing them heal is remarkable. Choose to have a mindset that contributes to a happy lifestyle. Learn
to realize how many good opportunities a bad situation gives you. I was able to witness some events in
a whole new light. For example, most people don t get to experience growing their hair back or
gaining muscle back at such a fast pace. These experiences prove how much an illness can take away
and how quickly a strong mindset can restore that deficit. A good outlook on life will heal and

The Discovery Of The Tomb
Introduction
In ancient Egypt, a boy dies mysteriously. Quickly buried in a small tomb, he lies peacefully,
undisturbed. Thousands of years later, in February 1922, a man named Howard Carter finds the boy s
tomb. Named the discovery of the century, the discovery of the tomb answers so many questions, but
creates a mystery that takes its place in the world s greatest unsolved mysteries.
I selected the topic of Tutankhamun because I have an interest in Egyptian pharaohs, and
Tutankhamun s mystery intrigues me. Tutankhamun came to throne at only about eight or nine years
old. About ten years later, he dies. How? Some theories include a chariot accident, he was murdered,
or died from disease. This research report will include the events before Tutankhamun s life that led to
him becoming king, his short reign, death, the chain of events that Tutankhamun caused after his
death, and jump ahead in the timeline to his discovery thousands of years later.

Ancient Egypt had the world s largest river, the Nile River, running right through it. Most people lived
in the fertile soil near the Nile, called the Nile Valley. The Nile is over 4000 miles long, which is as

Nile and the Blue Nile. The White Nile starts in Central Africa, and the Blue Nile starts in East Africa.

Criticisms on the Studies of World History Essay
In the late twentieth century, the study of world history has emerged to allow both historians and
students to understand the world from a global perspective. World history is viewed to be part of the
academic field than the research field. According to Charles Hedrick, author of The Ethics of World
History, Western civilization was the main course taught in schools and universities before world
history became part of the curriculum. The need to understand the world in a broader perspective
compared to a Western perspective made the study of world history popular in the United States.

This is most noticeable in patriotic world history. The development of world history from the Right
created the patriotic world history. This approached to world history advocated American values and

world history. The patriotic world history serves its purpose by legitimiz[ing] particular political
values. It focuses on the values and experiences of European and Euro American, while treating other
societies as paths to avoid. Sometime patriotic world history goes so far as to exclude most of the
world s peoples and societies from world history. This approach is far from the original goals of world
history to understand integration and differences between people and events without compromising
other societies.
Another criticism of patriotic world history is the lack of professional historians. Two advocates of
patriotic world historians are Paul Ganon and Diane Ravitch. While they have a degree in history, they
lack the qualification of a professional historian. They proclaim to understand the meaning of the
global past and use it for their own political

laboratory session on bending moments and shear forces requires good understanding and sufficient
knowledge of axial forces. Bending is defined as a behavior of any structural element that undergoes
the external load, which is applied perpendicularly to longitudinal axis. That experiment helps us to
find the maximum load that can be applied to the beam with rectangular cross section. Moments are

Thar resulted in the maximum bending moment occurred. Moment was calculated in the same manner
as in the previous example with only the difference in direction for positive moment. ∑MR1(left)=
∑MR1(right) ; R1*0.2 P2*0.34=(R2 P3)*0.24; The resultant bending moment was found to be
maximum at the point where shear forces are minimal and thus equals to approximately +0.3856 N.m
Regarding the moment about the cut, here our group was able to find the minimum difference between
the measured and calculated values applying the same formulas and assumptions. The resultant
moment was calculated to be 0.225N.m , which is approximately 3% difference and thus can be
neglected. It is clear from the bending moment diagram that there is a point except ends where
bending moment equals to zero. Such a point have a different of bending moment on its two sides (left

about that point and equate it to zero. Taking that reference point as X , we obtain: ∑MX(left)=

The Effect Of Heat On The Heat Essay
INTRODUCTION
Heat is a form of energy that is transferred between two substances at different temperatures. The flow
of the energy is from the object of higher temperature to the object of lower temperature. The heat is
measured in units of energy, usually calories or joules. Temperature on the other hand, is how cold or
hot an object is. The temperature is the average kinetic energy per molecule of a substance. This is
measured in degrees on the Celsius or Fahrenheit or in Kelvins. When heat is added to a substance, the
kinetic energy of individual particles increases, which makes them move faster resulting in a increase
in temperature. The more heat that is added per gram of substance, the greater the temperature change.
The relationship between the heat added, the mass of a substance, and the temperature change it
undergoes is known as the specific heat. An increase in internal energy is required to convert a solid to
a liquid,. Conversely, a reduction in internal energy can cause liquids to freeze or solidify. When heat
is added to a solid or a liquid, the temperature of the sample does not necessarily rise. During a phase
change, heat is added to the sample without an increase in temperature. Heat absorbed or released as
the result of a phase change is called latent heat. There is no temperature change during a phase
change, thus there is no change in the kinetic energy of the particles in the material. Latent heat is an

Competitive Advantage And Disadvantages Of Chester F73524
COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES As members of Chester F73524, we see
ourselves as the biggest player in the low tech industry. This is a direct result of the competitive
advantage that we possess. By making heavy investments in fixed assets early in the simulation, we
have been able to create a low tech product to be reckoned with; one that is characterized by sizeable
contribution margins, high accessibility and awareness, and a premium price. As a result, we have
achieved an industry high contribution margin of 45.3%. Furthermore, through our investments in the
TQM module and automation, we have been able to greatly reduce the production costs associated
with producing our low tech product, Cake. Decreasing the R D cycle time has allowed us to have our
product in the ideal position for a longer time. We believe our competitive advantage is sustainable for
the rest of the simulation, as we plan on keeping our low tech product for the entire length of the
game. Thus, we will capitalize on the benefits of having low labour costs as a result of our high level
of automation, and on the benefits of having low material, overhead, and administrative costs,
resulting from our investments in TQM. Nevertheless, like any realistic business, we are subject to
competitive disadvantages. As we enter the next round, we face a dramatically decreased high tech
market share. This is largely due to our failure to account for our improved R D cycle time, causing us

From 1981 to 2011, the Space Shuttle Program dominated human space exploration for the United
States, but since March 2011, NASA had no way to put astronauts into orbit. For this reason, the
ending of the Space Shuttle Program was faced with a lot of criticism as NASA depended on Russia to
get humans to the International Space Station. In the last few months, NASA has been taking major
steps in the production of its new rockets, which they plan to use to send astronauts into deep space.
This is part of the Journey to Mars incentive which plans to send humans to Mars in the 2030s.
The rocket they plan to take is called Space Launch Systems

The Eight Photos By John Thomson s Illustrations Of China...

TA: Lia Atanat
HIST1006
Feb. 16th, 2016 The eight photos I chose were arranged in a particular order. The first four were
selected from the Globetrotter s Japan while the other four photographs were chosen from John
Thomson s Illustrations of China and Its People: A Series of Two Hundred Photographs. Moreover, the
photos on the left side depicted the traditional Asian people and places, in contrast with those on the
right side, which seemed to be more modern due to some western elements presented in the pictures.
These eight photos well represented the themes that are recurring in the three albums: Asians in
traditional dress doing menial labor without the presence of technology, ... Show more content on

The two scenes were beautiful in a natural, traditional and exotic way, which was different from
Yokohama s beauty of modernity in picture 2 and 4. Yokohama was one of the seven treaty ports
opened by the Kanagawa Treaty in 1854 and Harris Treaty in 1858. Under the intimidation of America
s steam and coal warships, Japan had no choice but ended its close country policy and gave the U.S.,
later also Britain, the Netherlands, Russia, and France, the access to the seven treaty ports. After a
decade, when the globetrotter tourists visited Japan and pressed the camera shutter, we can see how
those treaty ports, especially Yokohama, were influenced by the West. Picture 2 depicted a main street
of Yokohama. On the left side of the street was a printing office while on the right side of the street,
there was a Cigar store. Cigar was clearly not a native product of Japan, but something introduced
from the West. Another noteworthy detail was that the shop signs of the two stores were both written
in English instead of Japanese. Picture 4 was a portrait of a railway station. Train was a symbol of
technology development and signified Japan was stepping outside of the Biological Old Regime and
start to use steam and fuel as the source of energy. In addition, in the middle of the picture stood a
lampstand. It indicated the use of electricity, and gave viewer a

Due To The Extensive Amount Of Harm That Photo Manipulation
Due to the extensive amount of harm that photo manipulation causes, it is an ethical issue. Digital
photo manipulation in women causes widespread harm, long lasting damage to women s self esteem
and other negative psychological thought processes. Research has also found that it causes a large
number of eating disorders. It does this by making women chase the ideal, thin body image that is
being portrayed in the different pictures and advertisements. There was a study done that examined
both the thin ideal and body classification. Results from this showed that viewing the thin ideal lead to
a higher level of body dissatisfaction (Whyte, Newman, Voss, 2016). Thereby this issue diminishes the
autonomy of the viewers, uses models as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A false idea of what one actually looks like is being portrayed within the photograph. They are
providing the viewers with an inaccurate and unreliable picture. It is also important to know who the
parties involved in this issue are. The company that decides to alter the image is first handedly
involved in this matter. The model that is posing for the shot, which in this case are the women that
are being altered, are also involved. Lastly, the viewers of the photograph, which includes all of
society and their target audience of females are involved as well.
Knowing the relevant laws when analyzing this issue is crucial as well. Given that the First
Amendment grants people with the freedom of speech, these companies are allowed freedom of press
as well. This allows the companies to do what they want with the images they have. They are allowed
to advertise for their company however they choose, regardless of outside opinions on their methods.
They can send whatever message, whether indirect or not to their audience without any restrictions.
However there are some company policies that these businesses try to follow. First and foremost they
try to market however they think will get them or their product the most attention. They do this at the
cost of unethical photo manipulation. Some different companies such as Dove and Aerie have spoken
out against this issue and have started campaigns of their own in response to it. The

Abstract This Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANETs) consists of of a set of nodes linked by wi fi
hyperlinks. Trust based redirecting has much attention as an efficient way to enhance protection of
Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). The Network is ad hoc because it does not depend on pre
existing facilities, such as wi fi routers in wired networks. Routing in MANETs is a challenging
process due to powerful topology and mistake vulnerable shared atmosphere. Data is sent between
nodes in a MANET by browsing through advanced nodes, which must make choices about where and
how to path the information. MANETs encounters several problems because of node flexibility,
Jamming, network size, and the chance of node mistakes. The efficiency and behavior of a MANET
relies on how well information can be approved around and provided. In the present world the
protection weaknesses are improving day by day. It is really

Women s Army Corps (WAC)
1.1 Women s branches in the military
Official women s branches were founded by 1943. Not only in the Army they were established, but
also in the Navy, Coast Guard, and Marines. Before Pearl Harbor, many supporters of women s
involvement in the military run a campaign for the establishment of women s branches in the War
Department. Among these supporters were involved people like Representatives Edith Nourse Rogers
of Massachusetts, Margaret Chase Smith of Maine or First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. (Litoff and Smith
35)
During 1941 to 1942 many women came to Washington D.C. to work for the War Department. Most
of them came because they had previously seen ads for a work, which was required to be done. The
truth is, that before the attack on Pearl ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A year later in June, this organisation was dissolved. Instead, the branch of Women s Army Corps
(WAC) was established. Thanks to this organization women obtained same titles, ranks and salaries as
men. During the war, about 140 000 women participated in these two organizations. (Litoff and Smith
35)
Even ads for the WAC got better as Colonel Betty Bandel was in charge. She soon gained a
permission to start with her own campaign. (Weatherford 6) According to Doris Weatherford in her
book American Women during World War II: An Encyclopedia, Betty Bandel soon understood that
potential enlistees wanted less glamour and more assurance that sacrificing the best years of their
young lives really would matter. (6)
Unlike other branches, the WAC also accepted black women from the very beginning. However, they
were separated from the white American women and they had their own units. African American
women had to live, be seated and eat in different rooms than white women. Even though this
segregation lasted during the war years, African American women wanted to be part of the war and
were ready to provide their service at any time. (Litoff and Smith

The Tylenol Crisis
Although Johnson and Johnson was a big company at the time of the Tylenol crisis, the company has
never faced a complicated problem as the one that Tylenol was affronting at the time. In addition,
there were no evidences or records of any other similar problem, neither in the pharmaceutical
industry nor in the food industry. The lack of background on that kind of situation represented at the
time a big challenge for the company.
Tylenol was one of the most spectacular success stories in the pharmaceutical industry, because in
about 6 year period, the product increased revenue from $50 million in 1975 to more than $350
million in 1981. In 1960 the company promoted Tylenol among doctors and pharmacists as an
alternative pain reliever. By 1981, before the Tylenol crisis, the company had 35% market share on the
analgesic market, and the company was targeting to achieve 50% for the year 19861. The chart below
shows the total revenue growth for Tylenol from 1975 to 1981:
Without any prior experience, the company reacted very well to the problem and handle the crisis in a
way that the company did not lose credibility and kept credibility among the customers. The company
did 5 main activities that help the firm to maintain credibility and to manage the crisis. The first one

Johnson and Jonson recall around 31 million bottles of Tylenol from the market. That represented to
the company a financial impact of around $100 million. Even though, the company received some
advises from FDA and FBI to do not overreact, the company decided to do not exposure people and
take the financial risk. That action helped the company to build trust among customers and
distributors. The FBI didn t want us to do it, explains Burke, because it would say to whomever did
this, Hey, I m winning, I can bring a major corporation to its knees. And the FDA argued it might

Crime And Punishment Alyona
...she was beseeching, no doubt, not to be beaten, for she was being mercilessly beaten on the stairs...
(Dostoevsky 120) . In Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, a young Russian boy named
Raskolnikov is experiencing a Man Vs. Self conflict situation. Raskolnikov decides to commit a crime
on a pawn shop owner that is his primary source of money. In this book, Raskolnikov does not have a
reason to commit the murder of the pawn shop owner, just a desire. There is debate over whether
Raskolnikov actually has a reason to kill Alyona, who works at the pawn shop, or not. Those who
believe he has no reason believe he has a mental disease. That is the only other logical representation.
In Crime and Punishment, Raskolnikov, in some points, does not even believe in himself enough to
commit this crime. ...come to regard this hideous dream as an exploit to be attempted, although he ...

Critical Analysis Of Frederick Douglass
Would you risk your life to wangle literary even if you were forcibly shackled into slavery? In the
17th century, you would have not even been close to a book. During this time, white colonist forbid
the liberty that slaves could have the qualification to attain literacy fearing that the increase in literacy
will oppose a threat on the institute of slavery, the colonist themselves, and emit true political
sovereignty. As a result of this mental genocide, slaves had been dependent on their masters. There
were exceptions. Slaves were discouraged to acquire critical literacy however, whites forcibly taught
the slaves about Christianity. Frederick Douglass, a notable abolitionist, presents the battles the

Henceforth, this reference discloses that education is essential to restore freedom. Subsequently in
chapter 4, he alludes to a religious/historical reformations occurring in Great Britain, through Richard
Brinsley Sheridan, an Irish dramatist: Catholic emancipation. . Douglass introduces Sheridan in order
to juxtapose the setting of the Irish community to slaves. In Ireland, the Irish people were oppressed
by the Anglicans (Britain s national church) due to religious avidity. Eventually after the reformation,
the Irish citizens had the judgment to choose the Catholic or Anglican church. As a result, Douglass
utilizes historical allusion to foster the ideals of freedom by giving the slaves an example that they
have choices in life (such as being an autodidactic) , but they must fight for them. The speaker
establishes himself to be convincing to his lesson. We are naturally more likely to be persuaded by a
person who has knowledge therefore, the audience sense the credibility that the speaker develops.
Douglass detests the practice of slavery. Douglass declares in paragraph 1, that his mistress s kind soul
would commence, and later commence, to follow her husband s wrongdoings. Douglass casually
repeats the word, commence, typically how his mistress performed particular duties. Therefore,
Douglass exaggerates the word commence, to tell the slaves that they must be affirm to take charge in
their sovereignty before the slaveholders do. Douglass

Gandhi And The Life Of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also known as Bapu (the father of the nation) and Mahatma (the great
soul) was born at Porbandar on 2nd October, 1869. Karamchand was his father and Putlibai was his
mother. His father was a hereditary diwan of a petty princely state in erstwhile Kathiwara. His mother
was a pious, God fearing, devout and simple lady given to traditional religious practices such as
prayers, reciting of God s names, counting rosary beads etc. They belonged to the caste of Vaishya. In
London, he had a very unhappy and restless life as he felt like a square peg in a round hole in the so
sophisticated English society and milieu. He remained almost an outcast although he tried to ape the
English youth. All his attempts to become a fashionable English gentleman again proved a
misadventure as his attempts to smoke and eating meat had proved earlier in India. Therefore, he gave
up these attempts of becoming a gentleman and decided to follow his own nature. There he read
Barnard Shaw s Plea for Vegetarianism and declared, From the day of reading this book, I may claim
to have become a vegetarian by choice the spread of which became my mission. He also set up a
vegetarian club there and one day invited Sir Adwin Arnold to become the club s Vice president. In
1891, he passed his Bar at Law examination and in the summer of the same year returned to India, to
his great relief, and he was called to the Bar at Bombay but again as a practitioner of law, he proved a

Memories Of My Little Sister
I have many memories with my little siblings. Surprisingly, the memory that sticks out the most to me
is when memory of my little sister being born. The birth of my little sister was very stressful, but
worth all the anxiety. All the hours we waited, my anticipation to see her kept building inside of me. I
was super little when my thirteen year old sister was born, so I don t remember as much. I was eight
when my littlest sister was born. It really helped because I remember everything that happened and
can tell you all the details of that marvelous day.I was kinda nervous because I was scared my little
sister would get all the attention. I didn t think that my mom would be getting much attention, even
though she was having the baby. The part I remember the most about this crazy day is first when I
arrived in the waiting room. As an eight year old I assumed I would arrive and we would take the baby
and go straight home and introduce her to the family. As soon as we went to the front desk my
grandma asked how is Mrs. Kleffman doing. I remember the nurse having a tired response All is doing
well could be a couple hours though . I was really confused because i kept asking myself, how long
could it really take to have a baby. My grandma smiled at the told her thank you. We sat down in the
waiting room and I started to look around. The room smelled like cleaners that burnt my nostrils and it
was super cold. I had brought a sweatshirt with me, so i had to put it on. It was my

  • 3. Stereotypes Of Student Athletes Okay I ll sign this paper, but this doesn t mean you re excused and you can t make up the participation points you ll miss. My first thought, then why are you signing the paper? I m a student athlete here at Tulane University. My sport is Track and Field and I am a hurdler. As a student athlete, one of my responsibilities is to inform professors of when I ll be out of class due to a meet and to have them sign a form saying it s okay to miss their class. On quite a few of these occasions I ve heard the first quote above. These professors believe that I am the stereotypical athlete. There are these ongoing stereotypes that student athletes are dumb, lazy, and privileged. It s understandable that people believe these stereotypes, news magazines and reports are always talking about how athletes are coddled and cheat their way to success. Though it is nowhere near true for the majority of student athletes, a select few situations encourage this negative categorization of us, thus putting student athletes under even more pressure to perform. Student athletes are constantly misjudged and the assumptions are affecting us. For example, in his article Checking Athlete s Privilege, Michael Kasdan writes, Giving star athletes preferential treatment doesn t begin in college. It starts much younger. The coddling, the entourages, the brushing aside of academic requirements (OK we ll say it: cheating) ...But we sure do master it by the time those athletes get through the ... • 4. Odette Symbolism In Black Swan Achieving perfection is not easy, and some may even say it is impossible. In 2010, Darren Aronofsky s thought provoking film Black Swan was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The movie focuses on ballet dancer Nina as she lands the lead role in the New York Ballet Company s Swan Lake. She has an obsession with becoming perfect and because of this, she slowly slips into a state of madness and jealously of her understudy. The ballet of Swan Lake has many interpretations, but the main story revolves around Odette the Swan Queen who has a cursed placed on her by the evil Rothbart. In order to break the curse placed upon her, someone must fall in love with her, but instead the Prince is tricked into falling in love with her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story of Swan Lake and Black Swan parallel, but when the movie does an actual performance of the ballet, the aesthetic of ballet reflects the movie s themes overall. While the choreography remains the same, the colors are much darker than a normal stage production would be. Since the film is a thriller with a dark tone, the colors fit the mood better than the bright, cool colors of a normal stage production. Even in the scenes with the White Swan, the color palette is somewhat more somber than normal. The lighting has a red tent to it when Nina is dancing the White Swan. This could be a symbol of even when she is most innocent, there is still darkness surrounding her. She also messes up during that time as well so the red could also be adding to the fact that she is so far gone by the Black Swan that she can no longer dance the White Swan. Also, the costuming of the antagonist, Rothbart, is much more monster like and bulky than the original slim leotard that is easy to dance and move with. This is to show how small Nina is compared to him, and that the darkness that is inside of her can overcome her. He is not shown much throughout the film, but when he does he seems to blend in as compared to Nina s overall psychological turmoil. Finally, the Black Swan appearance is much more sinister that the ballet version, with its dark wings and red eyes. The audience only sees ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although not a formal religion, she believes with many ideas of other religions like karma and reincarnation. Her spiritualism seemed not to be a very big motivation to her. She also expressed that most people in Greenpeace have no real spiritual emphasis. Greenpeace s vision is that the researching new solutions and alternate approaches will lead to a green and peaceful future. Specifically, they want to protect the oceans, ancient forests, get rid of fossil fuels and work towards complete reliance on natural resources and their protection. Personally, hope comes from seeing one individual change their stance or approach. When people take a genuine interest and change in their lives it gives hope for the larger battle. The organization keeps going because of the results and solutions that come about from their existence. Their protests and campaigns have been the source of many changes and even affecting the United Nations. One example is that they introduced a new fridge cooling system called greenfreeze. The old coolants harmed the environment, and even after bans the replacements were just as bad. Now almost all fridges use the greenfreeze system, which was invented by greenpeace, but not patent so other companies could use it without charge. I learnt a lot about Greenpeace the organization. We must look back find the origin of republicanism and how it played a role in justifying the Revolution. Specifically, did the Declaration of Independence reflect republican values? If so, did this have any significance on how women were a part of the revolution both ideally and in action? Republicanism was an ideology of governing a nation as a republic. The belonging and governing allowed the foundation for great strides for society. It allowed individuals the right to pursue life in a manner that grants them liberty and provides happiness. • 9. Glenohumeral Joint Research Paper The Glenohumeral Joint and its Function Within the Human Body The glenohumeral joint, or shoulder joint, is one of the human body s appendicular joints and boasts the greatest ROM (range of motion) of any joint in the body. An appendicular joint is a joint that is part of the appendicular skeleton which includes the pectoral girdle, pelvic girdle, and limb bones. The appendicular joints typically have a larger range of motion, but due to this are often weaker than those found in the axial skeleton. The glenohumeral joint is responsible for articulating movement of the upper arm by way of pivoting the humerus at the point that it meets with the scapula. There are many different classifications of joints within the human body and the glenohumeral joint is classified as a ball and socket joint which is one of six different synovial joints present in the body. A synovial joint is a joint that contains articular cartilage, joint capsules, and synovial membranes. • 10. The Six Principals Of Persuasion Six Principals of Persuasion To run a successful business there are many qualities a person needs to have. Some things are inherently given such as charm and good looks. There are also qualities than can be learned like the art of being an eloquent speaker or how to be a persuasive speaker. The art of persuasion can be delicate, you aim is to persuade you audience not to manipulate them. It is very important not to confuse the two. On the one hand you are using facts to convey your point on the other you are attempting to play on the emotions of your audience. Robert Cialdini explains it best with his six principals of persuasion. The Principal of Reciprocity is the first of Robert Cialdini s principals of persuasion. Reciprocity simply means a mutual exchange of privileges (Merriam Webster. n.d.). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This principal teaches you how the clients appreciate commitment and consistency but also how you can get commitment and consistency from your client. All you have to do is provide a timely and consistent product or service and your part is done. To get your client to keep coming back to you, there are a few things you can ask of them such as something small like writing a review of your services, or rewarding them for their loyalty to your company. By getting your customer to write a review, you are already helping yourself with the next principal of persuasion. Fifth, we have the Principal of Consensus. It is true that people follow the path of least resistance and have a pack mentality. One of the first things people do before they decide to buy a product is to read the customer reviews. If majority of the people like it then it is more likely that they will buy it. Celebrity endorsements and personal testimonials are some of the most effective ways to persuade you audience. • 11. Compare And Contrast The Russian Revolution And Chinese... Throughout history, many countries have called for revolutions whose goals and outcomes affected the government during its time, in order to enforce a change in the current form of government. In 1911, a revolution was led by Sun Yat Sen in China between the imperial government or the Qing and the nationalists. China s revolution s eventual outcome led to a conflict between the communists and the nationalists in China whose goals contrasted each other significantly. During World War I, a revolution in Russia occurred, led by Vladimir Lenin in 1917. The revolution in Russia affected the proletariat, the Bourgeoisie, and the corrupted leadership of the Tsarist government as a whole. Although these distinct revolutions occurred in two different countries, their outcomes are similar as they both show how communism and the inequality of the workers and classes impacted the countries both economically and politically. Hawthorne’s Use of Allegory The Minister s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a short story that was first published in the 1836 edition of the Token and Atlantic Souvenir and reappeared over time in Twice Told Tales, a collection of short stories by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The short story narrates the events that follow Reverend Mr. Hooper s decision to start wearing a black veil that obscures his full face, except for his mouth and chin. Mr. Hooper simply arrives one day at the meeting house wearing the semi transparent black veil and refuses from that moment on to take it off, which leads to the loss of his fiancée and isolation from the world. Mr. Hooper even goes as far as to insist on burial in the black veil. Yet, what is crucial to note are Mr. Hooper s last ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This particular idea serves to underscore even further the hypocrisy of human nature and emphasize the ironic aspects of the short story. The themes of the story serve to explicate the universal nature of all human beings. These themes include, for example, shame, guilt, the nature of sinning and morality. With regard to shame, whilst it is true that the veil covers Mr. Hooper s face, it does at the same time expose the nature of sin as one embedded deep inside humans. In other words, the veil exposes the sin existent in the world which makes the townspeople grow more and more uncomfortable. These feelings of discomfort are thus the result of being faced with the shame within. The more one has learned to ignore the sense of shame at the sins committed, and the darkness surrounded by, the more he or she is incapable of facing Mr. Hooper. This leads the discussion to the second theme in the short story: guilt s hidden nature. Indeed, most townspeople are faced with guilt suppressed upon looking at Mr. Hooper as they have never had to face a physical form of their guilt. However, Mr. Hooper s didactic usage of the veil serves as a constant reminder of that which is rather forgotten: sins committed. Using this as a reason, many of the townspeople chose to ignore Mr. Hooper instead of facing their own veils. However, the Reverend convinces the townspeople that everyone shares sins no matter what attempt is made to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Researchers that do not record or have a secondary route to capturing their interviews have to focus on taking their own notes during the process which often produces unreliable summaries and diminishes the affinity between the interviewee researcher. Both aspects in qualitative research are necessary when it comes to fostering an environment that allows interviewees to extend our knowledge while preserving the integrity of the data being collected. Semi structured interviews are less controlled but still warrants uniformity in information obtained. Moreover, this method sustains replication for enhancing the matrix while significantly reducing limitations on what is captured. This is often a challenge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Comparing The Parthenon And The Pantheon 3 The Parthenon and the Pantheon The Parthenon in Athens and the Pantheon in Rome are two of the most influential buidlings of modern and ancient architecture, and are often confused. It s easy to see why a person would get the two confused, there are some amazing similarities. However, once you have explored each structure in a bit more depth, you wonder how you could have confused them in the first place. The Parthenon was constructed during the Arthenian empire beginning in 447 B.C. and completed in 432 B.C. (Silverman, 2015) Using elements from both the Doric and Ionic orders, it optimizes Greek architecture with a sculpted frieze (band of sculptures near the roof) depicting Greek Gods and Goddesses, making this a distinctly Greek building. The other elements that make this building very Greek are the columns and the multiple statues of gods and goddesses. The Parthenon was built as a temple to the goddess Athena; the sculptor Phedias was responsible for the massive statue placed in the temple. (Parthenon, 2017) Although it s initial intention was for religious purposes, the building also served as a treasury for a time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking at the entrance you would immediately get the impression of Greek architecture with its massive columns and portico entrance. Morrison uses jungle imagery to represent the spreading corruption from slavery. When addressing the jungle that white people think lives within their slaves, Stamp Paid describes it as Swift unnavigable waters, winging screaming baboons, sleeping snakes, red gums read for their sweet white blood . When Stamp Paid discusses the effects of the jungle/slavery on white people he states, Touched them every one . Here, a syntax is utilized that eliminates the subject of the sentence that is performing the action of touching . The elimination of the subject within this syntax acts to convey the jungle/slavery as threatening due to its vagueness, as it is not even given a title within the sentence. The perceived threat of the unnamed subject in conjunction with the intrusive diction of the verb that it is enacting, touching , acts to emphasize the invasive nature of the threat of the jungle/slavery on white people. Stamp Paid utilizes the same syntax when further discussing its impact on white people: Changed and altered them . The syntax here eliminates the subject as well, providing the same sense of a threat due to the vague address of it. This syntax with the further threatening diction of changed and altered being performed by the unnamed subject causes it to be further seem as a threat. Summary Of Literacy, Discourse, And Linguistics The author s main argument in Literacy, Discourse, and Linguistics is that the focus of literacy studies or applied linguistics should be social practices (Discourse) rather than language. Many people tend to think of language as perfect grammar , but language is about what you say, how you say it, what you are, and do when you say something. Gee elaborates on this claim by describing two responses of women in an interview that each show different dialect. As far as political and civil liberties were concerned, Napoleon largely suppressed them with strict censorship and the establishment of a virtual police state in order to protect his power. This was then followed by the key significance to the main objective which is gathering data. To help with the findings and analysis, the research has to be focused more on areas where communities benefit through people of different backgrounds living together and sharing basic commodities, these could be sharing a kitchen, communal gardens, open spaces and even a bench in the public park.2 As there are quite a number of diverse people in the community, a lot of information was collected from them through one on one discussion. Although the information collected was not very satisfactory, care had to be taken as to select what to use. This was also the issue with selecting case studies which deals specifically with sociable housing which in these communities is widely known as co housing. The evidence collected from sources had to be carefully selected and used accordingly. A model was then developed to assess how people of different background can be incorporated through various substances. This was then implemented within separate case studies and the results explored and analysed. The model was then tried on another project to see if it works. There is a spillway that takes water through the Trinity River to Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Worth. This year has been a rough year for Lake Bridgeport with three digit temperatures and draining water to the other lakes. Since one of the purposes to build Lake Bridgeport was for storage, The Tarrant County water district approved to let out 20,000 acre feet of water from Lake Bridgeport to prevent the other lakes to be low. But 2013 is anything but a normal year. Today, what once was a scenic lake is covered in chest high weeds. Boaters and fisherman enjoy going to Lake Bridgeport during the summer. But in the summer of 2013 the boat ramps were unusable so the number of residents going to the lake dropped. There are dead fish floating to the shoreline as well as many other wildlife animals. The lake tested positive for Zebra Mussel larva, which is shell like creatures that are very sharp and stick to boats, anchors and docks. The Mussels are very dangerous for the lake environment, but they also eat bacteria so they could help the lake water clear up. • 27. The Theory Of Egoism And Altruism In this paper I will argue that selecting only one form of egoism is not enough to explain human motives and that it takes a mix of several theories to explain it, specifically a mix of ethical egoism and altruism, with the side note that intent is not important in this situation. The mix is important, as any one theory seemingly fails to encapsulate the scope of human interactions. Pure ethical egoism, the idea that each person should only try to help themselves, makes people out to be too greedy and seemingly unwilling to help anyone at any point in their lives. Pure altruism, the idea that people should use their abilities and advantages to exclusively help others, makes people too willing to sacrifice what they have for someone else. If people were completely altruistic nothing would ever be accomplished and eventually those advantages would become erased as people stop working to better themselves. I also believe that the intent of the action is not important so the morality of the action should be directly tied to the outcome, not the thought process of the person doing the action. All of these ideas will be explained in more detail later in the paper. This paper will look at each of these three factors individually, show why they are insufficient for explaining human motives on their own and then explain how they can all work in conjunction to better explain human motives. This paper will then go on to show how someone might disagree with this thesis by providing some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Operating under normative ethics, these philosophers did not question whether or not ethics even existed, but rather if they exist, what are they? For instance, in America, it is not uncommon to see a child spanked for misbehaving or disobeying his or her parent. However, in Sweden, this action is not only illegal, not also frowned upon. A moral relativist would explain that this is because moral facts can exist and be objective in America, but can be still objective and independent of Sweden s morals. Lastly, disagreeing with both moral realist and relativists, moral skeptics believe there are no moral facts; all morals are equivalent to opinions, and they are different for everyone. Moral skepticism says that all morals are simply rules created to control humans and their behaviors. For example, the moral skeptic would argue that the reason controversy exists over issues such as abortion is that each person has opinions that are independent of others. Skeptics would also say that there are no right answers to moral dilemmas, because each person will come to a different conclusion. The validity of realism in metaethics exists based on the fact that humans have certain physical attributes that occur as a reaction of how we act we have physical reactions when something morally wrong occurs. The electrical hardware housing structure for our prototype measured in at 7.375 x 6.375 x 5.000 , which allowed for a small yet fully functional device. These relatively small dimensions allowed us to easily transport our prototype without concern of having to make accommodations for its size. Our prototype was composed of simple PVC plastic sheets. We cut these sheets to the desired dimensions and attached them using bent aluminum sheet metal. We used 6 32 threaded nuts and bolts to fasten the metal angle brackets to the PVC sheets. This combination of materials and fasteners used to create the housing structure for our electrical components made for a strong, yet lightweight prototype. This strength allowed for our structure to be free standing and added a component of durability without adding to the size or weight significantly. Also, this housing structure contained all of our wires and components meaning that there were no extraneous pieces protruding from the structure. This uniform structure kept components from getting snagged by outside materials during transport. Bending Moment Lab Report Applied mechanics laboratory report Measurement of bending moment and shear forces for structural analysis Azamat Omarov ID201102658 1.Theory and background 1.1 Summary That performed laboratory session on bending moments and shear forces requires good understanding and sufficient knowledge of axial forces. Bending is defined as a behavior of any structural element that undergoes the external load, which is applied perpendicularly to longitudinal axis. That experiment helps us to find the maximum load that can be applied to the beam with rectangular cross section. Moments are calculated by using statics theory, or multiplying perpendicularly directed load by the respective distance to the pivot point. 1.2 Objective The main objective ... Moment was calculated in the same manner as in the previous example with only the difference in direction for positive moment. ∑MR1(left)= ∑MR1(right) ; R1*0.2 P2*0.34=(R2 P3)*0.24; The resultant bending moment was found to be maximum at the point where shear forces are minimal and thus equals to approximately +0.3856 N.m Regarding the moment about the cut, here our group was able to find the minimum difference between the measured and calculated values applying the same formulas and assumptions. The resultant moment was calculated to be 0.225N.m , which is approximately 3% difference and thus can be neglected. It is clear from the bending moment diagram that there is a point except ends where bending moment equals to zero. Such a point have a different of bending moment on its two sides (left and right) is known as a point of contra flexture. It can be easily found by using moment equation about that point and equate it to zero. Taking that reference point as X , we obtain: ∑MX(left)= ∑MX(right); 5.26*(X 0.14) = 1.962*X Thus the point of contra flexture for those specific loads equals 0.223m or 223mm from P1 Figure 7. • 39. The Effect Of Heat On The Heat Essay INTRODUCTION Heat is a form of energy that is transferred between two substances at different temperatures. The flow of the energy is from the object of higher temperature to the object of lower temperature. The heat is measured in units of energy, usually calories or joules. Temperature on the other hand, is how cold or hot an object is. The temperature is the average kinetic energy per molecule of a substance. This is measured in degrees on the Celsius or Fahrenheit or in Kelvins. When heat is added to a substance, the kinetic energy of individual particles increases, which makes them move faster resulting in a increase in temperature. The more heat that is added per gram of substance, the greater the temperature change. The relationship between the heat added, the mass of a substance, and the temperature change it undergoes is known as the specific heat. An increase in internal energy is required to convert a solid to a liquid,. Conversely, a reduction in internal energy can cause liquids to freeze or solidify. When heat is added to a solid or a liquid, the temperature of the sample does not necessarily rise. During a phase change, heat is added to the sample without an increase in temperature. Heat absorbed or released as the result of a phase change is called latent heat. There is no temperature change during a phase change, thus there is no change in the kinetic energy of the particles in the material. Latent heat is an intensive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Competitive Advantage And Disadvantages Of Chester F73524 COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES As members of Chester F73524, we see ourselves as the biggest player in the low tech industry. This is a direct result of the competitive advantage that we possess. By making heavy investments in fixed assets early in the simulation, we have been able to create a low tech product to be reckoned with; one that is characterized by sizeable contribution margins, high accessibility and awareness, and a premium price. As a result, we have achieved an industry high contribution margin of 45.3%. Furthermore, through our investments in the TQM module and automation, we have been able to greatly reduce the production costs associated with producing our low tech product, Cake. Decreasing the R D cycle time has allowed us to have our product in the ideal position for a longer time. We believe our competitive advantage is sustainable for the rest of the simulation, as we plan on keeping our low tech product for the entire length of the game. Thus, we will capitalize on the benefits of having low labour costs as a result of our high level of automation, and on the benefits of having low material, overhead, and administrative costs, resulting from our investments in TQM. Nevertheless, like any realistic business, we are subject to competitive disadvantages. As we enter the next round, we face a dramatically decreased high tech market share. This is largely due to our failure to account for our improved R D cycle time, causing us to revise Crypto ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Ireland, the Irish people were oppressed by the Anglicans (Britain s national church) due to religious avidity.
