Research Paper On Israel Culture
Israel
SSG Dustin L. Ingram
SLC 13P Class 001 16 The Army s field manual on Counterinsurgency defines Culture as a system of
shared beliefs, values, customs, behaviors, and artifacts that the members of society use to cope with
their world and with one another ( Counterinsurgency , 2006, para. 3 37). The culture of any particular
group is evolving all the time due to it being a product of fluid characteristics that form and shape that
culture. Some cultures evolve quickly while others take much longer to evolve due to some inherent
rigidity. Israel fits on both sides of this scale and is very interesting to examine for one particular
reason, Israel is a country formed relatively recently by a culture group that has been around for
centuries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a total population of 8,049,314 people, they are a relatively small country but due to the size of
Israel, about 92% of these people live in urban areas (The World Factbook, n.d.). This fact plays a
large role in the Israeli economy. With so much of the country being urban only about 2.5% of their
GDP comes from agriculture while the remaining 97.5% is from the Service and Industry sectors that
are more common in urban areas (The World Factbook, n.d.). Religion also plays a huge part in
shaping the culture of the Israelis with about 75% of the population being Jewish. This not only
shapes the more apparent aspects of the Israeli culture like their values, beliefs, and traditions but also
effects things like their diet and language which both have their roots in the Jewish religion. In fact,
Israel is the only country that Hebrew is the official language. Not everything within the Israeli culture
however, centers on the Jewish religion. The people of Israel also value fairness and freedom from
religious persecution so much that their court systems are set up in three different branches to cover
Christian, Muslim, and Jewish cases to ensure that there is no religious bias in their legal system. This
idea is both a product of the fact that Israel is home to about 25% non Jewish residents and the fact
that the Israeli people know firsthand the effects of religious

Housemaid s Daughter Hardships
The life of Ada Mabus and the hardships she faced The 1930 s was a fun time for many. Others didn t
find the 1930 s to be as great of a time. Especially a man or women of colour. In the book The
Housemaid s Daughter by Barbara Mutch, Ada Mabuse; would say that the 1930s was a place where
nobody of colour would like to be. Ada is a little girl, working with her mother in the Cradock house,
for Master Edward, Madam Cathleen, Master Phil their son, and Miss rose their daughter. During this
period negros faced a lot of challenges and hardships. They did not have the same privileges that many
of the whites took advantage of. Ada has over come many difficult situations in her life time. Firstly,
she has been sextually abused, Secondly, had bore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ada was always ashamed of people judging her for the creation of dawn her light skinned daughter,
for example when Ada met new people or passed then on the way too school, for instance she would

colour of the Groot Vis (166). The grot vis was a great river, which was not clear, often brown, dirty
water from people crossing through it to get to the other side where the township was. Ada gained a
lot of courage from caring and protecting dawn, when Ada heard miss rose speaking to Master and
Madam, Ada was extremely worried about dawns protection. no prosecutions yet, you mean But who
knows how long that will last (259). Ada can sense that miss Rose has a plan and will not stop till it is
fulfilled. Having dawn did give Ada courage, strength, and integrity, on the other hand it has made
more challenges for them to face, for example dawn wanted to protect her mother and master, she is
willing to leave the only world she has ever known to go to Johannesburg from the law finding out

is going to leave and dance, which has been her passion, ever since dawn was a little girl. Many great

How Does Jetblue Compare And Contrast Virgin Southwest And...
2. Competitive Environment
JetBlue has been recognized for offering cheap flights to business travelers, in the same way that other
airlines come up with similar offers for different types of travelers. In 2009, (case study) JetBlue was
on top of the list of the low cost carriers. The airline is classified as a major carrier, which means their
annual revenue starts at $1 billion, JetBlue has a $3 billion revenue, still and all it is mentioned that
JetBlue is smaller in comparison to other major airlines.
Over the years, one of the main competitors of jetBlue has been Southwest. In a 2009 report it was
mentioned that two other low cost airlines, Virgin America and SkyBus, were some of the biggest
competitors for jetBlue (case study); however, a 2013 analysis might have suggested in some way that
JetBlue was about to have new airlines to compete with, Singapore Airlines and Emirates Airlines, by
introducing new features and technological innovation in their offerings (Popova, 2013). Airlines are
implementing these improvements in order to attract more customers that look for comfort, but at the
same time affordability. It can increase the competitivity, but it is not noticeable immediately.
Even though, JetBlue is not directly competing with other international airlines, a comparison and
contrast with competitors such as Southwest and Virgin America can be seen in small, but important
details such as the baggage allowance. JetBlue has fare options in order to find out the amount of
baggages admitted, the first fare is called Blue Flex, and it allows to bring a maximum of two checked
bags under 50 pounds at no cost, a third bag would cost $100; the second one, the Blue Plus fare
allows only one bag under 50 pounds, a second bag has a cost of $35, and a third bag would cost
$100; the third and last fare is called Blue and the first checked bag under 50 pounds has a cost of $25,
the second bag $35 and a third or fourth bag would cost $100 (JetBlue, 2017).
On the other hand, Southwest doesn t have specific fares to decide bag allowance, they simply allow 2
checked bags per customer at no cost (Southwest, 2017). Also, Virgin America which is another
competitor of JetBlue has a fee of $25 per checked bag

BIOMATERIALS
ADVENT
One of the earliest uses of non biological materials within the body was the wooden toe prosthetic in
1065 740BC in early Egypt. However, research within the field and therefore the 1st generation of
biomaterials was recognized a lot of conspicuously in 1960 to 1970. Throughout this time period
biomaterial research encompassed all materials designed to be used within the body. These materials
were designed to achieve an acceptable combination of physical properties to match those of the
replaced tissue with a smallest deadly response within the host. Eventually the field started focusing a
lot of on categories of materials like metals, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nanomaterials can be manufactured with extraordinarily smooth surfaces.
(ii) In macroscale geometries, fluid flow through conduits like pipes is restricted by friction between
the moving fluid and the pipe walls, leading to resistance to flow. In nanoscale geometries, molecular
forces will build it such that fluids can slip past the pipe walls without significant resistance. This may
be used to lower the pressure drop across filtration devices.
(iii) At small sizes, the flexibility of a particle to scatter lightweight of various wavelengths is
predicated on particle size. An example of this is zinc oxide, which appears white in sunscreen once
the particles are macroscale, however transparent when the particles are nanoscale. In a similar
fashion, thin films composed of our silver nanowires are extremely clear albeit they are composed a
material that is opaque at a macroscale.

Revolution of music in the 1960s Essay
Revolution of Music Music has continued to change throughout each decade, but the 1960s was the
most influential decade in the history of music. Starting in the early 1950s, rock music was first
introduced. Major record labels were releasing new cover songs which were originally made by black
artist, but now by white artist (Rock and Roll). These cover songs changed a few lyrics from the
original songs to avoid copyright issues and to also make the song more appropriate for the white
listeners. The biggest star of the 1950s was Elvis Presley, who was known as the King of rock n roll .
Post World War II there was a new generation known as the baby boom generation. The arrival of this
new generation called for new entertainment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Popular folk artist gave their own opinions on war, racism civil rights, justice, and the establishment
through their music (Holland107). The suggestion of rebellion interested the baby boom generation.
Two of the top folk artists from the 1960s were Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. Joan Baez was referred to
as a political singer/activist and she was known as the Queen of Folk music (Joan Baez). Bob Dylan
created plenty of politically based songs that directly warned specific areas of politics, like
congressmen and senators, who wanted to stop the civil rights and peace movements (Holland 107
108). Lastly there was the genre Motown which hit its peak of popularity in the 1960s. It brought a
new rhythm called the back beat that was enjoyed because it was easy to dance to. Berry Gordy Jr.
started the Motown Company in 1962 and brought up artists like Smokey Robinson and the Miracles,
Little Stevie Wonder, The Jackson Five, and Diana Ross and the Supremes (Holland 109). All of these
artists are well known and still listened to today. The racial diversity of mainstream music in the 1960s
was widely spread, which is why this was such a significant decade for music. There was a so called
British invasion that took place roughly between 1964 and 1966. British bands like the Rolling Stones,
the Kinks, the Animals, the Beatles, and many more came to America bringing their version of rock
music with a British twist (British Invasion). The

Themes in Albert Camus quot; The Plague. quot; Essay
Albert Camus was born on the 7th of November 1913 in Mondovi, Algeria to Lucien Camus, whose
family had settled in Algeria in 1871, and Catherine Sintes, of Spanish origin. During Camus high
school years, he met Jean Grenier, the man who would influence Camus career to the greatest extent
by opening his mind to the philosophy of thinkers such as Nietzsche and Bergson. He and Grenier
focused much of their writing on the duality of mortality.
Still achieving highly at school, Camus received his diploma from the University in philosophy in
1936, examining the legacies and conflicts of thought in his thesis, which would later inhabit his
works. The philosophy of moralism he formulated led to his ideas of the absurd, a state which can ...

Individuals were regarded as free to determine themselves through such choices. A pessimist mood
characterised the early post war years reflected in Jean Paul Sartre s philosophy of existentialism. This
was the backdrop under which Camus wrote.
The Plague is classified under the genre of Impressionistic realism. There is no doubt that the book
was written as an allegorical experience of the author living in German occupied France during the
Second World War. The book is also read as, the occupation of Algeria by France. Another
interpretation of the book is that the book is a critique of totalitarian communist ideology, in which the
plague symbolises the repression of the people by a ruthless government machinery. My attempt in
this paper, though, is to bring out the various themes present in the novel.
Through this book, Camus tries to portray man s fight against an all pervading and arbitrary enemy.
The entire novel can be viewed as a statement about life and death, i.e. about human existence in
general. As with his other novels, The Plague deals with conflicts and struggles, freedom and
responsibility, alienation and the difficulty in facing life without belief in God or in absolute moral
standards. Other major themes one finds interwoven into this novel are suffering, separation, sickness,
rebellion, sympathy, and mechanisation of life.
In the novel an epidemic ravages the commercial port town of Oran, in Algeria. The early symptoms

Difficulties And Challenges Of Learning
One of the greatest skills that we have developed as a people is our capacity and ability for language.
Creating a way for us to communicate spread ideas and further enriches our lives, language both
verbally and written, has been a great benefit to our lives. Unfortunately not everyone is as quick to
understand language in its forms, for example when a person may have difficulties in reading.
Obviously this would create a great hindrance to a person s life, and there have been a few identified
factors that have correlated with difficulties in learning to read. One of the main connections that has
been found is that a person who has difficulty in processing sounds of words, that they may also have
lessened reading abilities. In discussing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For one, even though there has been shown to be a link between auditory and verbal abilities and
reading, they are only parts of what make up the entire whole process of reading (Bishop and
Snowling 2004, Cain et al. 2004). Secondly is because there are a few important distinctions to make
between the two group sets. First would be the types of skills that fall in each group. Examples of
skills that fall within the phonological side are letter sound knowledge and phoneme awareness
(Hulme et al. 2012). In discussing phonemes, they can be defined as a unit of sound to distinguish
units of meaning or put more simply, the different noises that when put together create words (Fox and
Routh 1980). Non phonological skills on the other hand would relate to semantics along with dealing
with the definitions and comprehension of words (Bowyer Crane et al. 2008). The second is the
problems associated within each skill set. When dealing with problems associated with reading, on the
phonological side concerns with word decoding may arise if these skills slack (Bowyer Crane et al.
2008). With non phonological skills issues, problems with reading comprehension can occur (Bowyer
Crane et al. 2008). In discussing problems that arise within the phonological group set, along with
more in depth skill insights, a number of researchers have found vital breakthroughs. In dealing with
the learning of reading, phonological awareness has

Solomon Scale Model Essay
In my model, assessment of athletes, the coaches, and the parents is in constant motion. First, the
coach and consultant have to establish a trustworthy relationship and then as time progresses, each
assessment is more accurate and reliable.
At the beginning, middle, and end of the session, I suggest the coach and consultant use the Solomon
Expectancy Sources Scale to assess the athletes. Along with the knowledge they know from their
sound relationship with each athlete, the coach and consultant can make a more accurate subjective
assessment of each athlete.
The Solomon Scale is an assessment that allows one to asses 30 attributes (such as self discipline, love

Functional Model Of Rehabilitation
At the mention of rehabilitation, images of physical therapy, addiction withdrawal, and even prisons
flow through my head. In our modern time, rehabilitation exists with a good connotation, expressing
the idea of renewal or resetting to what is deemed normal or natural to our society. Merriam Webster
describes rehabilitation as the process of restoring an individual to a useful and productive place in
society through some form of vocational, correctional, or therapeutic retraining. Perhaps it s a reaction
to the Functional Model, in which society would view criminals, addicts, and handicaps as irrelevant to
the general progression of the economy. The idea that they need to be restored to normal as closely as
possible contains an undertone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
N.p., n.d. Web. 05 Sept. 2016). In addition, the idea of rehabilitating addictive behaviour has existed
since the beginning of the 19th century temperance movement. It gave rise to our modern notion of
addiction and the duty of our society to alleviate the struggles of the addicts. This rehabilitation of
addicts would eliminate or obstruct the social decay which was believed to be a result of indulging in
a spirituous beverage. Here , a socio political model of disability reveals itself as the addicts represent
the minority group , but not only do they recognize themselves as part of the group, society recognizes
the group as a catalyst to social decay and produces rehabilitation as a cure for the problem. Although
rehabilitation has some selfish undertones represented by the sociopolitical and Functional models, it
aims for the care and restoration of the ill(mentally, emotionally, or physically) to a more comfortable

Major Character Development In The Boy In The Burning House
Through the character and actions of the characters in The Boy in the Burning House, Tim Wynne
Jones shows that major character development is influenced by the minor characters. An individual s
character is developed by how others interact with him/her. What others say to him/her, how others act
around him/her, and how he/she reacts to what they say and do to him/her. Tim Wynne Jones is the
author of the novel THE BOY IN THE BURNING HOUSE. Major character development is
advanced by minor characters. In the novel, Tim Wynne Jones centers around his protagonist, Jim
Hawkins and how his character develops with help of others as he is trying to figure out why his father
disappears. Hector Menzies, an old friend of the Hawkins, helps Jim out by giving information on
Hub, his father s past. Jim also receives help from his bus driver to solve an internal conflict. Jim
receives the final piece in finding himself, by one of his neighbors. It is with the aid of others that Jim
is able to find himself and it begins with Hector Menzies. Hector Menzies helps Jim s character to
develop because of the information Jim receives from him. Hector gives jim hope in the form of
information. Jim learns about the fire in 1972, he also learns that Father Fisher is found near the spot
where Hub is before he disappears. He had not told Ruth Rose he was going to the Expositor. He wasn
t sure he would help her...[He had] Some kind of burning need to know (72). Showing desire is
showing character. The burning need to know, Jim has it. Hector helped him satisfy his lust for
knowledge about his father s past. Hector giving the newspapers allowed Jim to move on with his
thoughts on Hub and Father. Jim s desire for knowledge shows, his thought process. At the start of the
novel, Jim is depressed, hopeless. He now has a goal because of the information. Hector gives Jim a
reason. But he wasn t lost for the first time in a year he felt he saw the faintest trace of a trail opening
up for him (73). Feeling is what makes humans, human. Characters, character. Jim is feeling hope, as
the author refers to it as a Trail opening . Jim at the beginning of the novel depressed, hopeless

Comparison Of My Life And Angela s Ashes
Sir Isaac Newton once wrote If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants. And
autobiographies and biographies indeed allows us to look further down the path through the life
experiences that great people have achieved. They tell us of the lives of real people, real events and
real experiences which have occurred in history. Stories that reflected incidents that were salient in
one s life, recounting their progress through the path towards possibly achieving something significant
in human history. This teaches us, with a realistic approach, of the opportunities and challenges one
has faced to reach where they are today. [Greeting] Helen Keller s The Story of my Life and Frank
McCourt s Angela s Ashes are prime examples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most significant lines in Angela s Ashes is the introduction, written from the adult
perspective of McCourt: It was, of course, a miserable childhood... and worse yet is the miserable Irish
Catholic childhood... the poverty; the shiftless loquacious alcoholic father; the pious defeated mother
moaning by the fire; pompous priests; bullying schoolmasters... It is his bitter attitude conveyed with
the usage of words with negative connotations as well as alliteration of mother moaning and pompous
priests to emphasise the suffering he had experienced during his childhood which greatly contrasts
with the latter part of the autobiography which uses a good natured attitude to balance the bleakness of
his life. This shows his change of outlook towards his past despite the pain he has felt. In both Angela
s Ashes and The Story of My Life, their inner thoughts resonated within the readers through their
usage of emotive language to convey their experiences. Keller s writing style consists of mainly
emotional paragraphs where her inner thoughts greatly reveal how she felt at the time and in turn
touches the hearts of the audience further than any novel could. We would sit together of an evening
and listen to the inner melodies of the spirit... But in college there is no time to commune with one s
thoughts... When one enters the portals of learning, one leaves the dearest pleasures... I am
improvident enough to prefer present joy to hoarding riches against a rainy day. Again, the use of
words with positive and negative connotations are evident throughout the text allowing us to grasp her
feelings as she compares her free past life to the restriction of education. The revelation of the inner
thoughts of the author establishes a relationship where the readers

Social And Religious Changes Influenced By The Black Death
Were Major Social/Religious Changes Influenced by the Black Death? In the Later Middle Ages, from
1300 to 1450, a plague is seen spreading and killing mass amounts of people in Europe, this plague
would later be named the Black Death. Starting in China in 1331 and then spreading to Europe by
cargo ships in 1347. During the Later Middle Ages the climate also changed, dropping temperatures,
killing crops, and freezing water supplies. During this period there were also multiple crisis that began
to pop up, and not many can be attributed to the Black Death. One must take each event and look for
causation case by case, rather than labeling all with the same brush stroke. Digging a little deeper, it is
seen that the peasants revolts were in fact influenced by the Black Death. In A History of Western
Society it is made clear that people were weak and sickly even before the Black Death infected them.
People were already weakened by famine, standards of personal hygiene remained frightfully low, and
the urban populace was crowded together. Fleas and body lice were universal affections. (History,
326). When people are already weak from starvation and sickness, then the Black Death arrives,
people tend to fight for life. It is known that a number of peasants revolts took place, and one of these
is recorded by an unknown monk in 1381. The source document called The Anonimalle Chronicle:

Wound Cleansing: Water or Normal Saline? Wound cleansing has been discussed about for many
years, different solutions and techniques have been discussed to use, and it is an important part of
preventing infection. Wound cleansing is described as the use of fluids to remove debris and dead
tissue from the surface of the wound. The purpose of wound cleansing is to make the best possible
conditions at the wound site, for uncomplicated wound healing. The most commonly used solution
would be normal saline due to being an isotonic solution and it does not disrupt with normal healing

One of the articles that was reviewed to determine if tap water would be appropriate for wound
cleansing was a systematic review by Fernandez and Griffiths (2007). In this study, various
randomized and quasi randomized controlled trials comparing the effects of water with other solutions
for wound cleansing were assessed. Of the nine trials used in this study, five trials were identified that
compared the rates of infection in wounds cleansed with water or normal saline (Fernandez amp;
Griffiths, 2007). These trials involved people of all ages, with a wound of any etiology, in different
settings including hospitals, communities, nursing homes, general practice, and wound clinics. The
trials also included an objective measure of wound infection, such as bacterial counts, wound cultures,
or wound biopsy (Fernandez amp; Griffiths, 2007). After data extraction and analysis of the trials, the
authors concluded that there was no statistical significance between cleansing with tap water and
normal saline (Fernandez amp; Griffiths, 2007). However, the authors also acknowledged two major
flaws in this review, including the lack of consistency in the criteria and validated tools of
measurement used to assess wound infection, as well as insufficient detail in reporting the method

The Ku Klux Klan ( Kkk )
The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) came into being in 1865 and was widespread in the southern states of the
USA. It was founded by former Confederate veterans in Pulaski, Tennessee. It was a movement,
formed after the civil war of America, to oppress the Republican Party s policies of reconstruction.
Few years after its formation, the movement engaged in war, fear and hatred in the war ravaged south.
The group s activities during this period have had adverse effects on the American society that still
haunt them to date (Southern Poverty Law Centre, 2011).
Racial supremacy was the driving force of the group s initial driving force. Ku Klux Klan objectives
aimed at re establishing white authority throughout America. The southern states were characterized
by lawlessness and violence in an attempt to intimidate the black community and sympathizers of the
Republican s policies of slavery abolishment. The group has been powerful and very evident twice in
the American history (Southern Poverty Law Centre, 2011).
In this paper, we will concentrate on the movement s activities and defining moments from 1865 to
1900. The above is the first period of the clan widely known as the first Klan. The paper looks at how
the group contributed to the reestablishment of white supremacy in the social, political and economic
life of the South America. The goals and tactics of the clan led to bloody events that shaped the socio
economic and political lifestyle of both white and black Southern Americans.

Motifs And Motifs In Macbeth
In literature, one might notice certain images, objects, or ideas recurring throughout the piece. These
are called motifs, and unsurprisingly, many motifs are present in the works of William Shakespeare.
There are many themes that Shakespeare conveys through motif in his play Macbeth. One of these is
that breaking the Great Chain of Being results in misery and disorder, but the natural order tends to
eventually recover. Another is that violence is morally ambiguous and can be good or evil depending
only on who the violence affects. Finally, Shakespeare shows that what one perceives as reality is not
necessarily reality, especially under the effects of guilt and or paranoia. From reading Macbeth, one
can easily pick up on these messages: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, towards the end of the play, the natural order begins to return to normal. Hearing that
Birnam wood was coming to Dunsinane Macbeth remarks I pull in resolution and begin
To doubt th equivocation of the fiend
That lies like truth. Fear not, till Birnam wood
Do come to Dunsinane ; and now a wood
Comes toward Dunsinane. Arm, arm, and out!
If this which he avouches does appear,
There is nor flying hence nor tarrying here.
I gin to be aweary of the sun,
And wish th estate o th world were now undone.
Ring the alarum bell! Blow, wind! Come, wrack!
At least we ll die with harness on our back (V.v.47 58).
This quote draws parallels between Macbeth and a horse, first with the metaphor of him pulling in
resolution. Through this metaphor, Macbeth suggests a fear that allowing the horse of his confidence
to be free was a mistake. He mentions later that at least [he ll] die with harness on [his] back (V.v.58),
which shows that Macbeth is returning to the battlefield where the natural order says he should be.
Rather than rule, Macbeth s nature is to obey commands, as both a soldier and a horse does.
Shakespeare emphasizes the unnatural nature of Macbeth s rule once again over here, as Birnam Wood
moving to Dunsinane is an event that does not occur naturally. Shakespeare demonstrates through his
use of these two nature motifs to enhance the idea that a disturbance to the natural order causes great

Film Analysis Of Carrie
The film Carrie (Brian De Palma, 1976) follows the protagonist Carrie White, Sissy Spacek, who is a
shy high school student in a small town. White develops telekinetic powers after receiving her first
period, which turns her world completely upside down; especially seeing as she did not know what the
blood meant. It is not until the end of the film when she starts to embrace her gifts. Although Carrie is
a horror film, the underlying meaning points to the mark of womanhood and discovering a woman s
own power, therefore shrinking the male masculinity right before our eyes. Carrie is a feminist film
where fear comes not in blood or telekinesis, but the fears of strong women. It is during menstruation,
that women are their most self aware, powerful, and destructive. The film uses cinematic techniques to
further push this idea by ways of mise en scene, cinematography, and editing. Every ... Show more

The On The Beauty Of Lionfish
Lionfish come with red, maroon or brown stripes and specks on their body and flashy fins. Their
beautiful long fins flowing gracefully in the water and dramatic colors are fascinating and inspiring.
No doubt lionfish are one of popular aquarium fishes as well as painting subjects. As my final project,
I want to create a captivating image, while enjoying exploration of the beauty and details of lionfish.
For the underwater backdrop, I want to suggest a coral reef environment. A solid or simple blue
underwater backdrop would be sufficient to show the beauty of lionfish, but it is too plain for my
taste. I decide to paint underwater ripples along with a brain coral. The challenge is creating a
background that doesn t compete against the flamboyant and colorful lionfish, yet adds enough
interest to the viewer s eye.
Palette : new gamboge, quinacridone gold, phthalo green, cobalt turquoise, phthalo blue, ultramarine
blue, Prussian blue, indigo, burnt sienna, brown madder, magenta, purple
1. I sketch out the Lionfish first on tracing paper. I have a few reference photos of lionfish, however
none of them has a perfect form of their fins. After I select one which has a good body shape, I alter
the imperfect fin shapes. Once I finalize the shapes of the fins, I draw the details of stripes on the body
and fins. I also pay close attention to fin rays and specks. When I finish working on the lionfish, I
draw the outline of the dome shaped brain coral and a few lines across the

Response To The Allegory Of The Cave
Allegory of the Cave Review Questions
An allegory is a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a
moral or political one.
Plato is said to have placed his mentor, Socrates, in his place in the story. Therefore, Plato is having a
discussion wit one of his fellows known as Glaucon.
Plato describes the prison as a dark cave. In the cave are people chained in front of a walkway facing
the back wall of the cave. Behind the walkway, a large ball of fire casts shadows onto the back wall of
the cave. Plato is telling this story to compare this fable to the reality of ignorant people being
revealed to the truth.
The prisoners are chained and watching the shadows being displayed in front of them from the free
people on the walkway in front of the fire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After being in the dark for so long, it was difficult to adjust. Once his eyes did adjust, the prisoner
could see that the objects were much more than what they shadows had portrayed. The prisoner is then
exposed to the outer world, outside the cave, and immediately thinks of how he feels terrible for the
other prisoners who are still in the cave. He realizes that they will not experience what he has in this
new world.
Anthony 2
6. The prisoners see the objects that were casting shadows for what they really are, the light, the whole
new world. They are exposed to a new world of truth because they were surrounded by nothing but the
wall with the shadows. Objects look more realistic and figurative and the light overcomes them.
7. Glaucon responds to Plato through most of the writing in short, simplistic phrases that agree with
what he is saying. This allows for Plato to be seen as an influential and intelligent figure. At the end of
the story, Glaucon asks small questions, not to contradict his mentor, but to enhance the reader s
meaning of what Plato is

URBANISATION AND HAPPINESS
Ketki Kulkarni, M.C.R.P.
HAPPY CITY, by Charles Montgomery

Book Review, Fall 2017 Urban Economic Spatial patterns
The spaces we live in have the power to make or mar our sense of happiness, and staying true to its
subtitle, Transforming our Lives through Urban Design is exactly what Charles Montgomery has
attempted to convey through his book Happy City. Unlike most books on urbanization, Happy City
comes across as a truly enjoyable read. It starts with the cheery, inspirational story of Enrique
Peñalosa, the former mayor of Bogota, which sets the tone for the rest of the book. ... Show more

Because there is no end to this outlook, it also fills people with a sense of discontentment making for
an unhappy society. Not to mention the ill effects on the environment and even human health. To put
emphasis on his point, Montgomery notes that had all these materialistic riches had the ability to make
us happy, then more than half of America would have comprised of happy and satisfied individuals.
However, we know that is not the case. People are increasingly stressed, frustrated and full of
discontent. He cites resources that mention suicide rates being aggravated with almost one in every ten
American being on an anti depressant pill.
It is therefore, not how we design our cities or even what techniques we might use to create the most
awe inspiring marvels of architecture and engineering that would decide how content we feel about
the cities. The crux lies in designing our urban spaces and infrastructure such that it encourages and
allows for social interaction, provides with a connect to nature and helps in the overall growth of the
community.
The solution according to Montgomery lies in strengthening our Public Transit Systems. A family of
four, would often have four cars, none of which are being used to their full potential. Governmental
plans include expanding highways, constructing flyovers and widening roads to accommodate more
and more traffic, but as

he wants. Well; go thy way. Thou shalt not from this grove. Till I torment thee for this injury

Antibiotics Essay
Antibiotics have played a major role in our society thanks to Sir
Alexander Fleming s careful observations in 1928. Without it, many lives would be in danger due to
infectious diseases.
Antibiotics are chemical substances produced by various species of microorganisms and other living
systems that are capable in small concentrations of inhibiting the growth of or killing bacteria and
other microorganisms. These organisms can be bacteria, viruses, fungi, or animals called protozoa. A
particular group of these agents is made up of drugs called antibiotics, from the Greek word anti (
against ) and bios
( life ). Some antibiotics are produced from living organisms such as bacteria, fungi, and molds.

This assures that the bacteria are either killed or reduced enough in numbers so that the body can repel
them. When too little antibiotic is taken, bacteria can often develop methods to protect themselves
against it . The next time the antibiotic is needed against these bacteria, it will not be effective.
Taking in Antibiotics.
To work against infecting organisms, an antibiotic can be applied externally, such as to a cut on the
skin s surface, or internally, reaching the bloodstream within the body. Antibiotics are made in several
forms and given in different ways.
Topical. Topical application means to a local area such as on the skin, in the eyes, or on the mucous
membrane. Antibiotics for topical use are available in the form of powders, ointments, or creams.
Oral. Tablets, liquids, and capsules are swallowed. The antibiotic is released in the small intestine to
be absorbed into the bloodstream.
Troches, or lozenges, are allowed to dissolve in the mouth, where the antibiotic is absorbed through
the mucous membrane.
Parenteral. Applications outside the intestine are called parenteral.
One form is an injection, which can be subcutaneous (under the skin), intramuscular (into a muscle),
or intravenous (into a vein). Parenteral administration of an antibiotic is used when a physician
requires a strong, quick concentration of the antibiotic in the bloodstream.

Physician Assisted Death Should Be Legal
A lot of controversy revolves around the topic of Physician Assisted Death (PAD) in America today.
Should it be legalized throughout the whole United States? Should it be left in the hands of the states
individually to decide? Or should the idea of Physician Assisted Death be completely abolished?
Everyone has their own opinions and can be very passionate about this topic without fully knowing
what Physician Assisted Death is. The name may cause people to feel uncomfortable and disagree
with it, but there are valid reasons and statistics behind the topic explaining why it would be logical to
legalize PAD. Terminally ill patients, in consultation with their families, should have control over end

A person who chooses to die in what they believe is a more humane and peaceful way does not mean
that they want to die, they simply have no choice. One article says, On the other hand, a terminally ill
person is actively dying and therefore no longer is choosing death over life but rather one form of
death over another. ( Aid 3 ) By giving patients the choice of Physician Assisted Death, we are
allowing them to have some control over the way their life ends and give them a sense of relief and
happiness. A terminally ill patient is almost always aware of the fact that their illness can be a burden
on not only themselves, but their caregivers as well. The purpose PAD serves is to relieve the patient
of the excruciating pain felt daily, as Federich states, The motive is to relieve physical suffering,
anxiety or serious sense of burdensomeness to self and others. Death is inescapable, hence the phrase
terminally ill, so why force someone to suffer and continue to go through unwanted treatment to just
prolong their life when they can choose to die peacefully? In the wise words of David Bender, When
death is the only way to relieve suffering, and is inevitable regardless, why not allow it to come in the
most humane and dignified way possible? (21)

The Debate On The House Of Lords
The prospect for change in the House of lords has been an endless debate in British politics. The
structure of the Chamber has bought about a significant argument for a transformative change in its
composition. The upper chamber has already experienced some reformations over the last 100 years,
including the Life Peerages Act (1958) and the Lords Act of 1999. The Lords Act reduced the number
of hereditary peers to 92 members. This was seen as a significant amendment but academics claim a
greater change is needed to establish a more democratic and effective body (Seidle, 2003). Brazier
argues the House of Lords continues to be unelected, unrepresentative and unaccountable (2008, p.
66). The current composition of the Lords consists of mostly appointed peers, known as life peers,
whom are appointed by the Prime Minister. There are currently 707 life peers and 88 hereditary peers.
Most importantly, the chamber includes only 26 bishops which remain the only elected members
(Parliament UK (2015). This significant proportion suggests the necessity for reforming the
composition of the Lords. This essay will assess the merits of switching to a fully elected House of
Lords. I will use the elected U.S. Senate to assess whether a fully elected upper house would be an
effective reform. The Conservative Liberal Democrat coalition in 2010 agreed to bring forward
proposals for a wholly or mainly elected upper chamber on the basis of proportional representation
(Russell, 2013, p. 265).

The Bible and How Satan Came to Be
Introduction: I have heard that Satan has come from heaven but was never really sure. So for my
research paper I asked where Satan came from and how he was created. Answers for this question are
found in many places in the Bible. Satan was one of the highest angels until was overcome with pride.
He was thrown out, and hell was created. Hell was first for Satan but was then opened for everyone
when Adam and Eve sinned.
Bible section: There are many verses in the Bible that show how how Satan came to be. Some of them
are not straight ford but some give a good description. Most of the verses that describe where Satan
comes from are in the book of Revelation. In (Revelation 12:3) Satan appeared as a 7 headed dragon
that had a crown on every head. He became so jealous and full of pride that he threw a rebellion
against God. Isaiah 14 says I will raise my throne above the stars of God. (Isaiah 14 12 15 NIV). A
war broke out in Heaven, Michael and his angles fought Satan (Revelation 12:7). This next verse
proves that Satan is truly evil, It says Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to
the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour
her child the moment he was born. (Revelation 12:4 NIV) That clearly shows that he wants nothing
good for us and wants to destroy us. Hell was originally for Satan only, but in Genesis God gave us
the choice to live in eternally in heaven or go to hell. The

many different reasons why colonists were revolutionaries or loyalists. Sometimes they chose sides
according to what was happening in their own communities and what their personal needs were or If
people they did not get along with did not want independence, they might take the revolutionary side.
If their rivals were the ones who came up with the idea of independence, they are known as loyalists

The most famous patriot at the time was probably the first President of the United States George
Washington who led the Continental Army. Other famous Patriots included Paul Revere, Samuel

famous loyalists as there are Patriots. Benedict Arnold was a general in the Continental Army who

Summer Plumbing Tips
With the summer fast approaching, if you want to avoid a summer plumbing emergency, you need to
make sure that you keep in mind these five summer plumbing tips.
#1 Have Your Plumbing System Inspected
The best way to ensure that your home plumbing system does not encounter any problems this
summer is to have it inspected. If it has been more than a year since you lsat had your plumbing
inspected, now would be a great time to schedule an annual maintenance inspection, so any little
issues can be addressed before they become big issues.
#2 Give Your Washing Machine Space

You don t need it heating water you will not use. This will save you some energy costs as well.
#5 Watch What You Put Down Your Garbage Disposal
Finally comma be careful about what you put down your garbage disposal this summer. A lot of the
foods that you may enjoy during the summer time do not mix well with your garbage disposal. You
should avoid putting fibrous foods such as banana peels, celery, corn husk, and any other food that
could be stringing down your garbage disposal.
You should also keep cooking fats and oils out of your garbage disposal. Fats and oils tend to get
clogged up and stuck in your garbage disposal. When you use your garbage disposal use cold water
and continue to run the water for a few minutes after the food is done and all ground up. Try to
compost as much food as possible, and keep as much food as you can out of your garbage disposal
this summer.
Avoid a plumbing emergency this summer by implementing the five tips above and be sure to call
your local plumber and schedule an annual maintenance inspection before summer really gets

At this stage, Paxton has already somewhat experience, he has constructed a lake. Duke who had great

Historical Quotes In Educating Rita
Each country has its very own culture and history but Great Britain is one of these countries that have
a worldly admired and one of a kind heritage. Indeed, British literature, theatre, art or even schools are
very influential and respected across the world. A few of them are illustrated in the three documents
we are about to study. The first one is an extract from Two Lives (2005) by Vikram Seth which tells
the story of a boy arriving to his new school. The second document is the scene 6, Act 1, from a play
called « Educating Rita ». In this scene, the main character Rita just went to see a play McBeth and is
now having a conversation about it with her tutor. The last document is the speech of J.K Rowling to
Harvard s students.
How to become a part of the Great British history ?
Great Britain has many world known, myths, authors and universities. For example, we can see in the
extract of Educating Rita, in which Rita just comes from the theatre where she saw MacBeth, to see
her tutor, that she is very excited and happy about the tragedy and the story. She even bought the book
and also quotes the play : « Out, out, brief candle ... ». In the play, this quote from McBeth reffers to

One of the criteria to apply to this university is to have studied an European language which he couldn

renowned university said that « no waiver would be granted ». We can see how hard it can be for some
students to accept the fact they won t be able to go to such prestigious universities, in this case a
British one but this doesn t mean they aren t any other solution. Seeing how « dispiritful », the student
was, confirms the prestige and reputation of Oxford. And the fact that so many people s dream is to
get into this school really means that it s part of the British

Descriptive Essay About The Cafe
The cafe is a short jaunt from our apartment, a splendid notion to someone who would rather spend
the entire day hiding in her bedroom. Adorned in our jeans, thick hoodies and jackets, we braved the
frigid weather. As soon as we departed from the building, Alice deemed it necessary to add restraints
by the use of her arm linked within mine. As we enter the cafe, the clatter of dishes and a low din of
chatter penetrates my ears, while the scent of pastries mingled with fried food imbues my nostrils. The
warm air saturates my clothing, filling me with gratitude to be out of the cold. Beside me, Alice
flattens her windswept hair as she searches for a free table. A smug smile caresses my lips. Before we
left, I tied my hair back in a messy bun to prevent the menacing wind from ravaging my hair. As I
scrutinise the cafe, I observe patrons occupy each of the cream leathered booths. As my gaze drifts
over to the counter, no stools are available to us. A glimmer of hope materialises. What a shame, we ll
have to go home where I can return to my solitude. However, Alice obliterates that hope the moment
she says, There s a free table at the back. Come on. We slide along opposite benches beside the wide
window that allows the grey sky to filter in. After shedding from my jacket, I rest my hands on the
stainless steel table and interlock my fingers, and observe Alice as she continues to tackle with her
matted hair. Though bumpy, she did manage to tame it enough to tie back into a

A Research Study On Selecting A Committee
Selecting a committee is a very important step in the process of preparing for a dissertation. As the
researcher engage in the process and in conjunction with the committee chair and members the goal
will be to define the research topic, develop the researchers proposal and engage in the process of
drafting while critiquing the entire research in an attempt to compose and ensure the researcher
completes his or her dissertation.
Scholars Wu and Beaunae (2014) suggests, the process of finishing a doctoral dissertation is a process
that requires the researcher to have dedication, make many life altering sacrifices as they engage in
multiple theoretical, practical, supervisory and committee team challenges. As I embark on this
daunting journey there have been several professors that have positively impacted my ability to stay
the course and committee to this process. A special thanks goes to professor Lin, Jameson and
Hickman. All three have been influential in my research development as they have fostered an ethical
learning environment that has strengthened my desire and dedication to complete this doctoral
dissertation journey. Scholars Schopfel and Prost (2013) suggests the selection and roles of the
dissertation committee members are critical. The committee chair has broad decision making powers
throughout the process as he or she approves the topic, the consultation process and every chapter and
line within. Each member thereafter should and are often considered

Strategies And Characteristics Of The Crowned Eagle In Africa
Everyone probably had a thought of being a specific animal for a period of time, perhaps at that
moment, she didn t want to be a human being. So she thought, A Crowned Eagle would be pretty
interesting. Not only does the name sound super cool and fascinating, but it is a large bird of prey, in
other words, it is the most powerful eagle. The Crowned Eagle won t have to have concerns about
getting eaten, and mostly food supply. Moreover, the Crowned Eagle could just enjoy life without
having to worry about most of the survival needs. Because the strategies and steps of how the eagle
hunts are fantastically amazing. It even has a partner to support on hunting the fast monkeys. Besides
the efficient hunting ability, it also has a strong build up body. The Crowned eagle has many firm body
parts that will help it to survive, such as the body mass, the strong talons, and the beak length.
Additionally, the flying ability that the Crowned eagle is able to do is beyond expectations. Being a
Crowned Eagle is an interesting thought with combinations of strong hunting skills, the powerful body
structure, and the beauty of flying.
The Crowned eagle is the most powerful eagle in Africa, in other words, the Crowned eagle is
considered the Africa s strongest predator. It s even eliminating over two heavier eagles: the Martial
Eagle, and Verreaux s eagle. According to, DinoAnimals it states, Crowned Eagle is an excellent
hunter on the ground, as opposed to the Harpy eagle which strikes

Internal And External Factors Of Vernon And Raymond...
There are internal and external factors that drive companies to approach the global market in a
different way as compared to earlier description of traditional stage model. The external factors
include globalization, digitalization, outsourcing, virtual economy and development in communication
standards while the internal factors include operations, language, culture, local adaptation (Oviatt
McDougall, 1994).
As indicated by the stage approach, the firms initiate their business by offering the items in their home
markets and after that they accordingly take a gander at new neighboring nations. The two
fundamental models can be distinguished inside of the stage approach: the Product Life Cycle Theory

From one viewpoint, this is because of the way that German business comprises of buyers with a
normal salary which is higher than any other European market. While on the other hand, the
production and operation of apparel industry goods are the results of the German high unit work cost.
Not with standing, in the genuine case situation, amid the advancement stage, variables other than
expenses are vital in settling on the decision: correspondence (with clients, supplier and contenders),
inside operations and outside economies. Amid the presentation stage, particularly in curated shopping
industry, the requirement for adaptability to comprehend the client conduct and developing patterns is
more significant to that of the brands included or by geological closeness. Indeed, even value

Revolutionary War Incredibly Revolutionary
The Revolutionary war was incredibly revolutionary because it was the transformation from the
colonies to the United States of America, they escaped the deathly tax and escaped from the
Proclamation of 1763, and now they transformed from a horrible Parliament to a democracy and a
change to a more moderate class. The revolution now sparked a beginning of an America without
being under the rule of King George the third and Britain (Declaration of Independance and the
tearing down of the Statue Royale in New York). They had a majestic change from the colonies to the
United States of America. They fought to escape the deathly taxes from the British.. America has

Chinese Immigrants During The Cold War
During the Cold War, America became increasingly wary of communist spies, and struggled to fight
for democracy, while its policies turned anti democratic. Ngai discusses some of these policies with
regard to Chinese immigrants, who were seen as undesirable before World War I, became American
allies during World War II, and were seen as communists during the Cold War. While Chinese
immigration was heavily limited through quotas, immigrants posed as paper sons, and used oral
testimonies to gain entrance. In the fifties, however, testing became more stringent, with those like
Drumright refusing to accept immigrants even if they met all the criteria (Ngai 210). Meanwhile, the
confession program weeded out families of paper sons, sometimes even

Elements Relevant To All Crimes Essay
1. Discuss the elements relevant to all crime
The elements common to all crimes are mens rea meaning guilty mind and actus rea meaning the
guilty act or the thing done. A crime is committed when a person commits a guilty act accompanied by
a guilty mind.
2. Discuss how society deals with lawbreakers.
Offences are classified in 3 categories. There are hybrid offences, summary conviction offenses and
indictable offences. Indictable offences are the most severe offences including murder, theft or fraud
over $5000. Jail time is usually the outcome if guilty. Summary conviction offences are the most
minor offences and can be proceeded without a jury trial. They are punishable by a fine of up to $5000
or 6 months in jail or both. When a hybrid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The UCR is a listing of incidents in a police jurisdiction that are forwarded to Ottawa and grouped
together to get a total of the number of crimes reported in Canada. Some criticisms of the UCR are
that many incidents are never reported. The NCVS doesn t involve police or enter official stats. It
measures the extent of crimes by focusing on the victims. Some criticisms of the NCVS is that some
victims may fail to report or lie and it does not measure victimless crimes such as drug abuse,
gambling, etc. Self Report Surveys ask people to report their own crimes without the use of names.
The promise of confidentiality encourages people to accurately describe their illegal activities.
4. Discuss the process of Classical criminology?
Classical criminology is the idea that people have free will in making decisions and that punishment
can be a deterrent for a crime as long as the punishment is proportional, fits the crime and is carried
out promptly. Criminals are in charge of their behaviour, they choose to commit crimes and they can
be deterred by the threat of a punishment. A criminal will decide against committing a crime because
of fear of punishment.

  • 2. Research Paper On Israel Culture Israel SSG Dustin L. Ingram SLC 13P Class 001 16 The Army s field manual on Counterinsurgency defines Culture as a system of shared beliefs, values, customs, behaviors, and artifacts that the members of society use to cope with their world and with one another ( Counterinsurgency , 2006, para. 3 37). The culture of any particular group is evolving all the time due to it being a product of fluid characteristics that form and shape that culture. Some cultures evolve quickly while others take much longer to evolve due to some inherent rigidity. Israel fits on both sides of this scale and is very interesting to examine for one particular reason, Israel is a country formed relatively recently by a culture group that has been around for centuries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With a total population of 8,049,314 people, they are a relatively small country but due to the size of Israel, about 92% of these people live in urban areas (The World Factbook, n.d.). This fact plays a large role in the Israeli economy. With so much of the country being urban only about 2.5% of their GDP comes from agriculture while the remaining 97.5% is from the Service and Industry sectors that are more common in urban areas (The World Factbook, n.d.). Religion also plays a huge part in shaping the culture of the Israelis with about 75% of the population being Jewish. This not only shapes the more apparent aspects of the Israeli culture like their values, beliefs, and traditions but also effects things like their diet and language which both have their roots in the Jewish religion. In fact, Israel is the only country that Hebrew is the official language. Not everything within the Israeli culture however, centers on the Jewish religion. The people of Israel also value fairness and freedom from religious persecution so much that their court systems are set up in three different branches to cover Christian, Muslim, and Jewish cases to ensure that there is no religious bias in their legal system. This idea is both a product of the fact that Israel is home to about 25% non Jewish residents and the fact that the Israeli people know firsthand the effects of religious ... Especially a man or women of colour. In the book The Housemaid s Daughter by Barbara Mutch, Ada Mabuse; would say that the 1930s was a place where nobody of colour would like to be. Ada is a little girl, working with her mother in the Cradock house, for Master Edward, Madam Cathleen, Master Phil their son, and Miss rose their daughter. The grot vis was a great river, which was not clear, often brown, dirty water from people crossing through it to get to the other side where the township was. Ada gained a lot of courage from caring and protecting dawn, when Ada heard miss rose speaking to Master and Madam, Ada was extremely worried about dawns protection. no prosecutions yet, you mean But who knows how long that will last (259). Ada can sense that miss Rose has a plan and will not stop till it is fulfilled. • 4. How Does Jetblue Compare And Contrast Virgin Southwest And... 2. Competitive Environment JetBlue has been recognized for offering cheap flights to business travelers, in the same way that other airlines come up with similar offers for different types of travelers. In 2009, (case study) JetBlue was on top of the list of the low cost carriers. The airline is classified as a major carrier, which means their annual revenue starts at $1 billion, JetBlue has a $3 billion revenue, still and all it is mentioned that JetBlue is smaller in comparison to other major airlines. Over the years, one of the main competitors of jetBlue has been Southwest. In a 2009 report it was mentioned that two other low cost airlines, Virgin America and SkyBus, were some of the biggest competitors for jetBlue (case study); however, a 2013 analysis might have suggested in some way that JetBlue was about to have new airlines to compete with, Singapore Airlines and Emirates Airlines, by introducing new features and technological innovation in their offerings (Popova, 2013). Airlines are implementing these improvements in order to attract more customers that look for comfort, but at the same time affordability. It can increase the competitivity, but it is not noticeable immediately. Even though, JetBlue is not directly competing with other international airlines, a comparison and contrast with competitors such as Southwest and Virgin America can be seen in small, but important details such as the baggage allowance. JetBlue has fare options in order to find out the amount of baggages admitted, the first fare is called Blue Flex, and it allows to bring a maximum of two checked bags under 50 pounds at no cost, a third bag would cost $100; the second one, the Blue Plus fare allows only one bag under 50 pounds, a second bag has a cost of $35, and a third bag would cost $100; the third and last fare is called Blue and the first checked bag under 50 pounds has a cost of $25, the second bag $35 and a third or fourth bag would cost $100 (JetBlue, 2017). On the other hand, Southwest doesn t have specific fares to decide bag allowance, they simply allow 2 checked bags per customer at no cost (Southwest, 2017). Starting in the early 1950s, rock music was first introduced. Major record labels were releasing new cover songs which were originally made by black artist, but now by white artist (Rock and Roll). These cover songs changed a few lyrics from the original songs to avoid copyright issues and to also make the song more appropriate for the white listeners. The suggestion of rebellion interested the baby boom generation. Two of the top folk artists from the 1960s were Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. Joan Baez was referred to as a political singer/activist and she was known as the Queen of Folk music (Joan Baez). Bob Dylan created plenty of politically based songs that directly warned specific areas of politics, like congressmen and senators, who wanted to stop the civil rights and peace movements (Holland 107 108). Lastly there was the genre Motown which hit its peak of popularity in the 1960s. It brought a new rhythm called the back beat that was enjoyed because it was easy to dance to. Berry Gordy Jr. started the Motown Company in 1962 and brought up artists like Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Little Stevie Wonder, The Jackson Five, and Diana Ross and the Supremes (Holland 109). All of these artists are well known and still listened to today. The racial diversity of mainstream music in the 1960s was widely spread, which is why this was such a significant decade for music. There was a so called British invasion that took place roughly between 1964 and 1966. British bands like the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, the Animals, the Beatles, and many more came to America bringing their version of rock music with a British twist (British Invasion). The ... Themes in Albert Camus quot; The Plague. quot; Essay Albert Camus was born on the 7th of November 1913 in Mondovi, Algeria to Lucien Camus, whose family had settled in Algeria in 1871, and Catherine Sintes, of Spanish origin. During Camus high school years, he met Jean Grenier, the man who would influence Camus career to the greatest extent by opening his mind to the philosophy of thinkers such as Nietzsche and Bergson. He and Grenier focused much of their writing on the duality of mortality. Still achieving highly at school, Camus received his diploma from the University in philosophy in 1936, examining the legacies and conflicts of thought in his thesis, which would later inhabit his works. Individuals were regarded as free to determine themselves through such choices. A pessimist mood characterised the early post war years reflected in Jean Paul Sartre s philosophy of existentialism. This was the backdrop under which Camus wrote. The Plague is classified under the genre of Impressionistic realism. There is no doubt that the book was written as an allegorical experience of the author living in German occupied France during the Second World War. The book is also read as, the occupation of Algeria by France. Another interpretation of the book is that the book is a critique of totalitarian communist ideology, in which the plague symbolises the repression of the people by a ruthless government machinery. My attempt in this paper, though, is to bring out the various themes present in the novel. Through this book, Camus tries to portray man s fight against an all pervading and arbitrary enemy. The entire novel can be viewed as a statement about life and death, i.e. about human existence in general. As with his other novels, The Plague deals with conflicts and struggles, freedom and responsibility, alienation and the difficulty in facing life without belief in God or in absolute moral standards. Other major themes one finds interwoven into this novel are suffering, separation, sickness, rebellion, sympathy, and mechanisation of life. In the novel an epidemic ravages the commercial port town of Oran, in Algeria. The early symptoms like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Creating a way for us to communicate spread ideas and further enriches our lives, language both verbally and written, has been a great benefit to our lives. Unfortunately not everyone is as quick to understand language in its forms, for example when a person may have difficulties in reading. Obviously this would create a great hindrance to a person s life, and there have been a few identified factors that have correlated with difficulties in learning to read. One of the main connections that has been found is that a person who has difficulty in processing sounds of words, that they may also have lessened reading abilities. In discussing ... For one, even though there has been shown to be a link between auditory and verbal abilities and reading, they are only parts of what make up the entire whole process of reading (Bishop and Snowling 2004, Cain et al. 2004). Secondly is because there are a few important distinctions to make between the two group sets. First would be the types of skills that fall in each group. Examples of skills that fall within the phonological side are letter sound knowledge and phoneme awareness (Hulme et al. 2012). In discussing phonemes, they can be defined as a unit of sound to distinguish units of meaning or put more simply, the different noises that when put together create words (Fox and Routh 1980). Non phonological skills on the other hand would relate to semantics along with dealing with the definitions and comprehension of words (Bowyer Crane et al. 2008). The second is the problems associated within each skill set. When dealing with problems associated with reading, on the phonological side concerns with word decoding may arise if these skills slack (Bowyer Crane et al. 2008). With non phonological skills issues, problems with reading comprehension can occur (Bowyer Crane et al. 2008). In discussing problems that arise within the phonological group set, along with more in depth skill insights, a number of researchers have found vital breakthroughs. In our modern time, rehabilitation exists with a good connotation, expressing the idea of renewal or resetting to what is deemed normal or natural to our society. Merriam Webster describes rehabilitation as the process of restoring an individual to a useful and productive place in society through some form of vocational, correctional, or therapeutic retraining. • 13. Major Character Development In The Boy In The Burning House Through the character and actions of the characters in The Boy in the Burning House, Tim Wynne Jones shows that major character development is influenced by the minor characters. An individual s character is developed by how others interact with him/her. What others say to him/her, how others act around him/her, and how he/she reacts to what they say and do to him/her. Tim Wynne Jones is the author of the novel THE BOY IN THE BURNING HOUSE. Major character development is advanced by minor characters. In the novel, Tim Wynne Jones centers around his protagonist, Jim Hawkins and how his character develops with help of others as he is trying to figure out why his father disappears. Hector Menzies, an old friend of the Hawkins, helps Jim out by giving information on Hub, his father s past. Jim also receives help from his bus driver to solve an internal conflict. Jim receives the final piece in finding himself, by one of his neighbors. It is with the aid of others that Jim is able to find himself and it begins with Hector Menzies. Hector Menzies helps Jim s character to develop because of the information Jim receives from him. Hector gives jim hope in the form of information. And autobiographies and biographies indeed allows us to look further down the path through the life experiences that great people have achieved. They tell us of the lives of real people, real events and real experiences which have occurred in history. Stories that reflected incidents that were salient in one s life, recounting their progress through the path towards possibly achieving something significant in human history. One of the most significant lines in Angela s Ashes is the introduction, written from the adult perspective of McCourt: It was, of course, a miserable childhood... and worse yet is the miserable Irish Catholic childhood... the poverty; the shiftless loquacious alcoholic father; the pious defeated mother moaning by the fire; pompous priests; bullying schoolmasters... It is his bitter attitude conveyed with the usage of words with negative connotations as well as alliteration of mother moaning and pompous priests to emphasise the suffering he had experienced during his childhood which greatly contrasts with the latter part of the autobiography which uses a good natured attitude to balance the bleakness of his life. This shows his change of outlook towards his past despite the pain he has felt. In both Angela s Ashes and The Story of My Life, their inner thoughts resonated within the readers through their usage of emotive language to convey their experiences. Keller s writing style consists of mainly emotional paragraphs where her inner thoughts greatly reveal how she felt at the time and in turn touches the hearts of the audience further than any novel could. We would sit together of an evening and listen to the inner melodies of the spirit... But in college there is no time to commune with one s thoughts... When one enters the portals of learning, one leaves the dearest pleasures... I am improvident enough to prefer present joy to hoarding riches against a rainy day. • 16. Social And Religious Changes Influenced By The Black Death Were Major Social/Religious Changes Influenced by the Black Death? In the Later Middle Ages, from 1300 to 1450, a plague is seen spreading and killing mass amounts of people in Europe, this plague would later be named the Black Death. Starting in China in 1331 and then spreading to Europe by cargo ships in 1347. During the Later Middle Ages the climate also changed, dropping temperatures, killing crops, and freezing water supplies. During this period there were also multiple crisis that began to pop up, and not many can be attributed to the Black Death. One must take each event and look for causation case by case, rather than labeling all with the same brush stroke. Digging a little deeper, it is seen that the peasants revolts were in fact influenced by the Black Death. In A History of Western Society it is made clear that people were weak and sickly even before the Black Death infected them. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Review of Literature One of the articles that was reviewed to determine if tap water would be appropriate for wound cleansing was a systematic review by Fernandez and Griffiths (2007). In this study, various randomized and quasi randomized controlled trials comparing the effects of water with other solutions for wound cleansing were assessed. Of the nine trials used in this study, five trials were identified that compared the rates of infection in wounds cleansed with water or normal saline (Fernandez amp; Griffiths, 2007). These trials involved people of all ages, with a wound of any etiology, in different settings including hospitals, communities, nursing homes, general practice, and wound clinics. The trials also included an objective measure of wound infection, such as bacterial counts, wound cultures, or wound biopsy (Fernandez amp; Griffiths, 2007). After data extraction and analysis of the trials, the authors concluded that there was no statistical significance between cleansing with tap water and normal saline (Fernandez amp; Griffiths, 2007). • 19. Motifs And Motifs In Macbeth In literature, one might notice certain images, objects, or ideas recurring throughout the piece. These are called motifs, and unsurprisingly, many motifs are present in the works of William Shakespeare. There are many themes that Shakespeare conveys through motif in his play Macbeth. One of these is that breaking the Great Chain of Being results in misery and disorder, but the natural order tends to eventually recover. Another is that violence is morally ambiguous and can be good or evil depending only on who the violence affects. Finally, Shakespeare shows that what one perceives as reality is not necessarily reality, especially under the effects of guilt and or paranoia. From reading Macbeth, one can easily pick up on these messages: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, towards the end of the play, the natural order begins to return to normal. I gin to be aweary of the sun, And wish th estate o th world were now undone. Ring the alarum bell! Blow, wind! Come, wrack! At least we ll die with harness on our back (V.v.47 58). This quote draws parallels between Macbeth and a horse, first with the metaphor of him pulling in resolution. Through this metaphor, Macbeth suggests a fear that allowing the horse of his confidence to be free was a mistake. He mentions later that at least [he ll] die with harness on [his] back (V.v.58), which shows that Macbeth is returning to the battlefield where the natural order says he should be. Rather than rule, Macbeth s nature is to obey commands, as both a soldier and a horse does. Shakespeare emphasizes the unnatural nature of Macbeth s rule once again over here, as Birnam Wood moving to Dunsinane is an event that does not occur naturally. White develops telekinetic powers after receiving her first period, which turns her world completely upside down; especially seeing as she did not know what the blood meant. It is not until the end of the film when she starts to embrace her gifts. Although Carrie is a horror film, the underlying meaning points to the mark of womanhood and discovering a woman s own power, therefore shrinking the male masculinity right before our eyes. Response To The Allegory Of The Cave Allegory of the Cave Review Questions An allegory is a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one. Plato is said to have placed his mentor, Socrates, in his place in the story. Therefore, Plato is having a discussion wit one of his fellows known as Glaucon. Plato describes the prison as a dark cave. In the cave are people chained in front of a walkway facing the back wall of the cave. Behind the walkway, a large ball of fire casts shadows onto the back wall of the cave. Plato is telling this story to compare this fable to the reality of ignorant people being revealed to the truth. He realizes that they will not experience what he has in this new world. Anthony 2 6. The prisoners see the objects that were casting shadows for what they really are, the light, the whole new world. They are exposed to a new world of truth because they were surrounded by nothing but the wall with the shadows. Objects look more realistic and figurative and the light overcomes them. 7. The structure of the Chamber has bought about a significant argument for a transformative change in its composition. The upper chamber has already experienced some reformations over the last 100 years, including the Life Peerages Act (1958) and the Lords Act of 1999. The Lords Act reduced the number of hereditary peers to 92 members. This was seen as a significant amendment but academics claim a greater change is needed to establish a more democratic and effective body (Seidle, 2003). Brazier argues the House of Lords continues to be unelected, unrepresentative and unaccountable (2008, p. 66). The current composition of the Lords consists of mostly appointed peers, known as life peers, whom are appointed by the Prime Minister. There are currently 707 life peers and 88 hereditary peers. Most importantly, the chamber includes only 26 bishops which remain the only elected members (Parliament UK (2015). This significant proportion suggests the necessity for reforming the composition of the Lords. This essay will assess the merits of switching to a fully elected House of Lords. I will use the elected U.S. Senate to assess whether a fully elected upper house would be an effective reform. Bible section: There are many verses in the Bible that show how how Satan came to be. Some of them are not straight ford but some give a good description. Most of the verses that describe where Satan comes from are in the book of Revelation. In (Revelation 12:3) Satan appeared as a 7 headed dragon that had a crown on every head. He became so jealous and full of pride that he threw a rebellion against God. Isaiah 14 says I will raise my throne above the stars of God. (Isaiah 14 12 15 NIV). A war broke out in Heaven, Michael and his angles fought Satan (Revelation 12:7). This next verse proves that Satan is truly evil, It says Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born. When the sea stained travelers had reached the hall itself in their fearsome armour, they placed their broad shields (worked so skillfully) against Heorot s wall. Adorned in our jeans, thick hoodies and jackets, we braved the frigid weather. As soon as we departed from the building, Alice deemed it necessary to add restraints by the use of her arm linked within mine. As we enter the cafe, the clatter of dishes and a low din of chatter penetrates my ears, while the scent of pastries mingled with fried food imbues my nostrils. Though bumpy, she did manage to tame it enough to tie back into a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
