The Lecture At The Angelica Library
The Opportunity in Lecturing
Things to Take From my Latest Historical Lecture at the Angelica Library
On August 18th, 2016, I had presented a historical lecture on the Abolitionist History of Allegany
County, at the Angelica Library. A number of times over the years I have given presentations and
lectures at my local library, for the sake of helping to spread ideas and information to others,
developing my skills, and other such purposes. I believe there is some use in reporting and reflecting
upon it, and that there can be some things to take away from it.
As part of my activities for during the summer break, I had figured I would give another historical
lecture at the Angelica Library. I figured that it would be a useful continuity with some of the
historical work that I have been doing. In the preceding semester I had written a paper on the
abolitionist history of Allegany County for a class in American Slavery. Following this, I had
uncovered some further information on aspects of the subject. When it came time for submissions to
the annual Phi Alpha Theta regional history conference, I had decided to write another paper on the
subject incorporating this additional information. I had presented this paper at the conference at Ithaca
College during my speaking section. From that point I had also gained some other interesting bits of
information to add on my knowledge on the matter. For instance, during another section of the
conference I had listened to the presentation

The Wiccan Religion
Wicca is an all embraced religion with gods, goddesses, and nature worship at its center with no
central authority or figure defining it. According to a popular Wiccan author, Wicca is based on
harmony with nature and all aspects of the god and goddess divinity. The religion was introduced in
the 1950 s by Gerald Gardner. While it s not an ancient religion Wiccan roots are of ancient agrarian
Celtic society and is considered Neo pagan. Wicca is a non structural religion but it does have priests
and priestesses. It is divided into various lineages and denominations, which are referred to as
traditions. Each tradition has its own organizational structure and level of centralization. Some of the
common varieties are 1734, Alexandrian, Celtic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These festivals are held eight times throughout the year to mark the changes in the seasons. These
festivals include Winter Solstice, the shortest day, Summer Solstice, the longest day, and spring and
Summer Equinoxes. Witches also honor their deities at monthly rites known asesbats, which are held
on the full Moon, when the mind is thought to be more magically powerful. Sabbats begin at sunset
and end at sunset the next day. Along with Sabbats there are festivals also known as rites, these are
held at night. Rites take place in a consecrated space, the circle, and even if there is a temple, the
circle space is created anew for each rite. The space is first swept with a broomstick or besom to
purify it and then blessed with the four elements;air, fire, water and earth. The circle is then
symbolically sealed by drawing a circle around it in the air with a wooden wand or a black handled
knife known as an athame. The four directions; east, south, west and north ,are then honored. Within
the sacred space, the Goddess and God are invoked and magic performed. Rituals usually end with
blessing a chalice of wine and cakes that are shared among the participants. Wiccan practice involves
the manipulation of nature through various rituals in attempts to gain power, prestige, love, or

Plyometric Training
Plyometric Training
Kelya Jureczki
Hardin Simmons University Introduction
Plyometric training is intended to increase power and explosiveness. The movement of the exercise
simulates sport specific movements that are transferable for enhanced sport performance outcome.
Plyometric exercises can help athletes increase strength, explosive speed and reaction time, which in
turn will increase speed and vertical height. Activating the stretch shortening cycle increases power
output and concentric phase of the movement (Watkins, 2013). Intensity, volume and frequency are all
factors determined by the players needs for the exact implementation to increase performance.
Functional training use of plyometrics for upper and lower extremities can have a substantial influence
on improving skill, speed and strength. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first phase is the eccentric phase. In this phase the energy is stored during pre loading. Between
the eccentric and concentric stage is the transition phase, called amortization. This phase should be
short in order for the energy to not dissipate. The last stage is the takeoff. In the concentric phase the
stored potential energy is transferred into the movement. The muscle is loaded with a lengthening
motion, followed immediately by a concentric shortening motion. In combination, the series is called
the stretch shortening cycle.
The muscle spindle in the muscle being activated detects a change in the length of muscle. Therefore,
the muscles and tendons react reflexively to provide protection.
Basketball
Basketball requires individuals to change speed, direction and movement. Jumping is also an essential
piece of the game. Therefore, both quickness and power are essential for optimal performance.
Plyometric training can be used as a pre season or in season method of training. Branch (2013),

Social Otherness In David Harsent s Duffel Bag
Composers of texts often use language devices to convey the ways in which social otherness impacts
upon one s perspective. The language devices employed by the composer show that social otherness is
capable of completely altering the viewpoint that one holds. It can change the way that people
perceive things entirely, therefore changing them as a person given that one s perceptive ability
defines their overall character. This use of language devices gestures towards the character
development made possible by the impacts of, and direct interaction with social otherness. David
Harsent s Duffel Bag a poem about a person living on the fringes of society and battling addiction and
exclusion, perfectly encapsulates the impacts of social otherness on one s perspective. ... Show more

Harsent s poem Moppet details the struggles of an unnamed, genderless person facing abuse, and how
that affects their sense of self and their quality of life in general. Similarly, composers also employ
language devices to expand on the impact one s perspective has on social otherness. This strengthens
one s ability to understand or empathise with the social otherness faced within the text. To exemplify
the impacts of one s perspective on social otherness, composers use language devices such as; slang,
metaphors and irony. In Edward Albee s The Zoo Story a play detailing the meeting of two drastically
different men, Peter, who is on the higher side of the social hierarchy and Jerry, who is on the lower
side, the effects of Jerry s perspective on his state of social otherness are greatly significant. In all of
these texts, the composers use language techniques to enhance the impacts of social otherness upon
one s perspective and the impacts of one s perspective on social

On June 17, 1775 in Charlestown, Massachusetts, the wrangle between the colonists and the British
continued in the Battle of Bunker Hill. All in all, the British won, netherless of the severe damage the
colonists caused ( out of 2,200 troops, 268 British soldiers and officers had been killed; another 828
were wounded). However, this resulted in the colonists receiving an important boost of confidence and
a realization that they can t defeat Britain alone, therefore needed allies. Since the French lost to the
British in the Seven Year War, the colonists asked them to help them defeat the British. The French

Most of the loyalists served the British in the American Revolution (1775 1783).As American rebels
fought for independence from Britain, Loyalists supported Britain for many different reasons. A lot of
loyalists felt a personal loyalty to Britain. Some were afraid that revolution would bring chaos to
America. Numerous amounts of loyalists agreed with the rebels view that Britain has mistreated
America, but believed the solution could be worked out within the British Empire. Recent immigrants
from Europe also tended to support the Crown. Their reasons for becoming Loyalists were as varied as
their backgrounds. Some had strong ties with Britain: others had simply supported what turned out to
be the losing side. Local incidents, fear of change, self interest, political principles, emotional bonds
all of these influenced their decision to remain loyal to the Crown. As American Revolutionary War

while many others considered alternative British Colonies as a destination for resettlement. It is

Prevention Of A Child Welfare Social Worker
This might happen when the social worker receives a report of possible problems from such sources as
mandated child abuse reporters, teachers, or simply anonymous citizens. In some cases, a child
welfare may be able to spot a possible child in need, particularly if she works in a school or other
facility that caters to children. Signs that a child may be in need of the intervention of a child welfare
social worker may vary. Children who are frequently getting in trouble, dealing with behavioral issues,
or show signs of neglect or abuse are often the children that catch the eye of these types of social
workers. Abuse and neglect, however, are major concerns for most child welfare social workers. The
signs of both neglect and abuse can be very subtle at times and difficult to spot to the untrained eye. A

and without a warm coat for the third time in a week. Upon further investigation, a child welfare
social worker notices that the child has not bathed. After interviewing teachers and other school
faculty members, the social worker also finds out that the child rarely has a packed lunch nor does he
have money to buy lunch. The child welfare social worker then has reason to believe that the child is
being neglected. After determining the possible problems that a child may be

Big 10 Basketball Analysis
Welcome to the March Madness Mania Blog. Throughout the remainder of the NCAA College
Basketball regular season and tournament play, this blog will be covering big games, individual
performances, and teams that have a chance at making a run in the NCAA tournament. For the first
post of the year I ll be looking at the Big 10 and commenting on teams with a shot at the tournament.
Big 10 Basketball Analysis
The Big 10 is in the middle of what is obviously down year. Still, there is not a Big 10 team with a
losing record and the majority of the league still has a chance at making the tournament. That being
said, if the bracket was drawn up right now, only Purdue, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Michigan
would actually be in the tourney. Maryland and Minnesota are both still have a chance of popping the
tournament bubble, and while Northwestern is currently a lackluster 11 7, they re a team that has the
potential to make a run and squeeze their way into the tournament. It s worth noting that Penn State is
sitting at 13 6 so if they win the majority of their conference wins they could slide their way in. Really
in the Big 10 the only two tourney locks are Purdue and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

turned the Buckeyes around. The Buckeyes were projected as finishing number 11 in the Big 10

emergence of Keita Bates Diop as a now first round prospect in the NBA draft has been the biggest
boost for the Buckeyes. The Buckeyes starting lineup has 4 solid starters and a rising star in Bates
Diop. The Buckeyes biggest weakness is the point guard position where they completely lack depth.

Tim Hortons Value Chain Analysis
Have you every thought about every food item you consume in a day? Where does it come from and
how did it get to your plate? The activities required for food items to be extracted from its source and
delivered to your plate must go through a cycle called a value chain. It consists of 2 sections; primary
activities and secondary activities. Primary activities involved are inbound logistics, operations,
outbound logistics, marketing and sales, and service until it reaches the hands and mouths of the
consumer (Porter, 1985). Secondary activities include procurement, human resource management,
technological development and infrastructure (Porter, 1985). The value chain requires both primary
and secondary activities to work efficiently and effectively to ensure that goods get passed down
stream to the market. Businesses invest in value chains as they are designed to enhance the value of
the product through effective coordination of operational and organizational support activities (Gooch,
2005). This paper aims to define two food items consumed during breakfast and track their value
chain from start to finish, focusing on the primary activities. The two food items to be discussed in
this paper is Tim Hortons coffee and BC eggs. Tim Hortons value chain aims to illustrate
environmental impacts, and BC eggs value chains aims to illustrate economic impacts.

who wants to go to college and play the sport that they love. Well, I play softball because of the love I

Importance Of Biblical Worldview
Wolters writes in his book, Creation Regained, that a worldview is almost essential to human beings
because we cannot live without belief and guidance, which a worldview serves as (Wolters, 76). As
Christians, we must have a biblical worldview, and in order to have a biblical worldview, it is critical
for Christians to understand and discern structure and direction. Structure and direction are the main
biblical themes, which Christians use to reform and renew every sector of their lives.
I. Structure Structure is one aspect that defines an individual s worldview. Wolters defines structure as
the essence of a creation that God placed in His creational law (Wolters, 682). It does not change
despite human s perversity. For Christians, it is necessary to discern and understand structure since it
is in all aspects of society, and it serves as a standard in all those areas. It acts as an anchor that
provides definition and places boundaries and limits. As an example, a structure in government
defines what it is supposed to do and places boundaries and limitations for it to run like a government,
not like a school or a business. In a way, structure is God s mercy because not only does it set a limit
for creations, but it also sets a limit on the enemy and prevents its dominion and bondage. Structure
helps us to think about the questions in this world in a different perspective. It enables us to think in a
Godly, scriptural perspective, which will serve as a guideline for us to

Hamlet Appearance Vs Reality Research Paper
Appearance Vs Reality
Anonymity is something that makes mankind feel quite powerful, and in some cases it is to benefit us
in certain situations. Shakespeare s Hamlet is known as one of the greatest plays of all time and,
Appearance vs. reality is a major theme that is consistent throughout this play. In the play Hamlet
there are characters who are behaving and acting a certain way, while in reality their objective and
intentions are the direct opposite. Some of these characters do not realize this until the end of the play.
Most of these characters appear to be candid and sincere throughout the play, while in reality they

Language And Academic Development And The Effective...
2. What was the background for the research study? That is, what previous knowledge did the author
describe as a foundation for the study in the review of related literature ? The background for the
research study provided insight into the theoretical and pedagogical aspect of using native language
(L1) with a focus on the aspects that most relate to adult ESL classes. The areas addressed were both
the affective aspects of learning related to bilingualism and academic development and the effective
classroom practices. Knowing that individuals organize and learn information by thinking and feeling,
teachers need to keep in mind that the emotional self is a strong factor in learning. Native language is
an important part of culture and creating opportunities for using L1 might be quite beneficial to
learning the target language (TL), in this case English. The nature of bilingualism was addressed and
as Huerta Macias and Kephart cited Cook (1992), learners cannot simply shut down their knowledge
of one language when using the other. Adults whose cognitive development exceeds their linguistic
ability in the TL may find an English only class frustrating. Another important element of the
background research was the understanding that adults will learn English differently than students in a
K 12 setting. For adults, language is best taught through content, as a tool for communicating and
learning. Use of L1 in adult ESL classrooms serves multiple purposes, such as

College Is Not Good Memories Essay
When I think back to when I was in college, nothing but good memories comes to mind. College was
by far the best time of my life. If I could sum it up, college would be the best four year party that I will
ever attend. I remember it like it was yesterday; going to class, playing football and pretty much being
a kid, but this time mom and dad wasn t around to tell you your bedtime. Even though college was a
blast, the effects of college played a huge role in molding me to the young man I am today. By
choosing to go to college and graduate, I was able to do something nobody in my family has ever done
before, and that was play a collegiate sport. I was also able to walk away with a Bachelors of Science
Degree in Civil Engineering Technology. But every good story must come to an end, but in this case,
every great four year party must come to an end. When that party ended, I also was left with a fat bill
called student loans. If I knew as an 18 year old kid what debt I would be getting myself into, things
might have been a little different. The effect of me going to college brings me to my first love,
football. I played the game of football since I was 4th grade. It never dawned on me that one day it
would take me to college. I played four years as a strong safety for the Colorado University Pueblo
Thunderwolves, three of them as a starter. As an individual I was able to garner various all conference

Malcolm X s Impact On Society s Function
Malcolm X, Malcolm Little or El Hajj Malik El Shabazz, are all different names to one heroic figure.
No two people can differ on the impact that Malcolm X has left, not only on the African American
society, but also on the world as a whole. Born in Omaha, Nebraska USA in May 19, 1925 Malcolm X
ideologies in life and philosophy were really a result of several life events that he struggled with and
experienced while growing up. Between loosing his parents, being bullied in school and finally having
Prison sentence, El Hajj Malik El Shabazz decided that some changes should be arranged in the
society s function. Starting from there, he became a man with a message and a mission. Malcolm X
was seeking a change, a step forward and a ray of light. After going through a lot in his life, Malcolm
X was detriment to be the burning candle that illuminates the roads for others. Almost 50 years later
since his death, a lot of people still look up to him as a spiritual leader and still consider him an icon
when it comes to civil and human rights movements. Today, in a world that is moving in the path of
equality and unity, we can only think of those who built the early stages of this ground we all stand
equally tall above. Thanks to influential people like Malcolm X, we can today see the impotency and
the growth of the seeds he grew back in his days. In spite of the fact that he is a well respected and

This helps balance the acidity in your system.
Soothes sunburn
While we all know that aloe cools the burn and promotes healthy skin growth, pickle juice can help
soothe the stinging or itching. The salt and vinegar contents in the juice can have an instant effect for
relieving the stinging sensation. A jar of pickles at the beach isn t so strange now, is it!

Marge Piercy s The Pampered Life Of Artifice
The Pampered Life of a Bonsai What if beer was never invented? What would fraternities take pride
in? What would they do in place of a keg stand? What would be the drink of choice for white dads
across America? A world where my dad can be seen drinking a girly drink while admiring the freshly
cut lawn is a humorous yet alarming possibility. This nightmarish thought would be reality without
women. Research lead by historian Jane Peyton, supports the idea that women s specialty for
millenniums was brewing beer. Although women are more to society than the keepers of the art of
brewing, this is one startling difference that women have made on society. Women are capable of
working hard, specializing in areas of expertise and intellectually competent. Marge Piercy would
agree that women hold great potential, if not hindered by the harmful effects of misogyny and the
patriarchal tendencies of society. Although to the untrained eye, A Work of Artifice may appear to be
simply about bonsai trees, the poem actually uses an extended metaphor to emphasize ... Show more

Piercy uses precise language which highlights the destructive nature of misogyny, but a gardener
carefully pruned it (bonsai tree), she uses a euphemism to describe the cutting of branches. Pruning is
a process that involves the careful trimming of a plant for aesthetic purposes. The choice of
euphemisms emphasize the ignorance of the gardener who believes his actions promote prosperity,
although his efforts only stunt growth and damage the bonsai tree. The gardener also whittles back the
branches, which is another way that he damages the tree. Similarly, the women involved with the
extended metaphor are handicapped by misogynists. Whittling happens to be another fancy word for
harming, cutting, or debilitating a plant. The unintentional harm of the bonsai tree compares to the
ignorance of misogynists and the harm they impose on

The attacks on Hamburg were not a turning point of the war as Bomber Command s fortunes had
completely disappeared once they started targeting Berlin, where their loss rates peaked to
unacceptably high levels. Therefore Gee made less of an impact in assisting the Allied strategic
bombing of Germany compared to Window. However the impact on Hamburg caused by Window was
relatively short lived because the Germans countered. On the other hand the long range escort fighters,
disposable fuel tanks and The Thousand Bomber raids had a long lived impact. The P 51 Mustang was
an important aircraft in the war that had an American airframe and a British Rolls Royce Merlin
Engine. Disposable fuel tanks, which increased the Allied fighter s range were loaded onto the P 51
Mustang and by March 1944, the modified Mustang had a 1800 mile armed range and could fly with
the bombers to Berlin and back. Richard Ovary said The long range escort fighter transformed the air
war overnight. Lastly the thousand bomber raid on 30th to 31st May 1942 against Cologne saw the
destruction of a third of the inner zone of Cologne along with the destroying of 20000 houses and the

The Mesozoic Era
Introduction
The Mesozoic Era began around 250 million years ago and ended 65 million years ago. It is divided
into three different periods, The Triassic, The Jurassic and The Cretaceous. In the Mesozoic Era Earth
was extraordinaly different from what it is now. The climate was humid and tropical, the sea levels
were constantly changing and even the shape of the Earth s continents were different (Benson et al,
2010). The land was dominant by the dinosaurs but the oceans were populated by more rich and
diverse marine reptiles. There were more than a dozen different groups of marine reptiles in the
Mesozoic era, these groups contained pelagic and coastal predators and coastal herbivores. The three
main predators of the oceans were the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the Late Triassic period they reached their highest diversity, they became more advanced and
specalized, making them one of the top Marine predators. Ichthyosaurs over time evolved to have
streamlined, fish shaped bodies and large heads. They also evolved to have thicker bodies and a
thicker backbone which meant they swam more with a convergent motion (Callway, 1997). They had
the largest eyeballs (up to 264mm in diameter), of all vertebrates which were supported by a ring of
sclerotic bones, these eyes were adapted to help them find prey in low light environments (Motani,
2009). Ichthyosaurus also had large ear bones, scientists believe this was an adaptation that allowed
them to locate their prey by listening for their arrival through the water . This adapation was also a
useful way for them to listen for predators that may be approaching (Fisher et al, 2016). The most
distinguishable feature of their body plan was the presence of the caudal fin and the dorsal fin which
was formed of stiff tissue, not bone. The first whole fossil of an Ichytosaur was discovered 200 years
ago by Mary Anning on the Jurassic coast of Dorset at Lyme Regis. Mary Annnings brother, Joseph
found the skull of an Ichthyosaur in 1811 between the cliffs at Lyme Regis and Charmouth but failed
to find the rest of it. Mary went out found the remainings of this fossil a year later, she found the rest

This is because, when additional responsibilities are given to them, they view it as an extension of
their individual sovereignties (because of their thirst for personal achievements and accomplishments)
and this leads to power conflicts in the case of overlapping sovereign areas. The Japanese being
extremely high on the dimension of ³masculinity´, the job culture is often in contradiction to the
American workers who lay equal emphasis to personal life as to professional, and their work life
balance is imbalanced. The excessive importance given to dedication and devotion to work can create
work stress for the Americans who put ³personal and family happiness first´. This is also evident in
their recruitment philosophy: It is the ability, performance and attitude of an individual which is
measured in an interview, rather than assigning a pseudo ± status to one owing to the prestige of his

literally evident in the meetings and discussions which happen at late hours when the Americans have
retired for the day, among the Japanese in their language. Needless to say, this created apprehension in
the minds of the Americans but the management tries to rectify the issue by

Parenthood And Its Effects On The United States
Planned Parenthood There is an ongoing argument about the funding of Planned Parenthood in the
United States. There are many reasons that some people do not want to fund it. One of those reasons is
because Planned Parenthood offers abortions to women. There are people who believe that these
operations should be shut down to rid our country of abortions. However, Planned Parenthood offers
much more than just abortions in their clinics. Planned Parenthood should be funded because of the
examinations and resources they provide, the education they give, and because it is a low income
health center.
Planned Parenthood offers access to many important health examinations, procedures, treatments and
medications. They offer breast cancer and cervical cancer exams. They test for STI s, HPV and UTI s
to name a few. All of these tests and exams are preventative actions to not only see if someone has a
health issue, but also to prevent health issues. They provide birth control to women who are not ready
to have children. They also offer abortions. However, Planned Parenthood has decreased the number
of abortions per year overall, including Vermont where Title X was passed to fund operations such as
Planned Parenthood. This is because Planned Parenthood offers birth control therefore preventing
unwanted pregnancies which may have ended in abortion (Zoppo 497). It is also important to note that
Federal funding of Planned Parenthood does not fund abortions except for cases of rape,

Cultures And Characteristics Of Cultural Imperialism In...
Cultural Imperialism in Pakistan
Cultural Imperialism is a term which got fame in late 1960s. It is basically about the cultural
characteristics of Imperialism. Imperialism means domination of something. Generally dominant
nations tend to invade other country s culture through media. In this way they not only manipulate the
ideology of targeted country but also changed their cultural values. If we look deep in history then we
came to know that third world countries are most influenced by this kind of media content. Also these
countries wants to enjoy global culture; so they adopt global culture by itself and thus their own
culture become extinct.
Pakistani society is also a prey of this feature of imperialism. We have a diverse and varied culture
throughout the country. We have our own festivals, dress code, food, literature; but everything is now
changed. This is due to cultural imperialism. Here we discuss cultural imperialism with the help of its
three indicators so can able to locate roots of this cultural domination in our society.

culture is now getting reputation among youth.
Our literature has also been changed. We have now a new kind of genre in literature which was not

series and writers like Ibn e Safi who wrote about suspense. This is a mere following of west as in

How Does Jonathan Edwards Use Figurative Language
The Language of the Olden Days The writings back then may be a bit confusing to read nowadays, but
it can deliver a message in a meaningful way. Dekanawida and Jonathan Edwards both used figurative
language to relay important messages to their people. They may have been about different subjects but
they used figurative in the same ways and also in different ways. One of them is a bit darker message,
Jonathan Edwards, while Dekanawida s was a more positive message about their united tribes. They
both used figurative language a lot in their documents expressing their feelings about their opinions.
So that, thus it is that a natural men are held in the hand of God, over the pit of hell; they have
deserved the fiery pit, and are already sentenced to it... (Edwards, 46). That is just the first sentence in
Jonathan Edwards writing showing how he believes how God see s man in the beginning. Five arrows

Appearance Vs Reality Macbeth
Daniel Webster once said, The world is governed more by appearances than realities, so that it is fully
as necessary to seem to know something as to know it. What tends to occur is people judge one
another based on appearance rather than reality. Consequently, the way one represents themselves is
the way they will be judged. In the tragic play, Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, appearance
versus reality is exposed through out the whole play. Macbeth tells a story of a man who is prophesied
from three deceitful witches that tell him that he will become King of Scotland. Trapped by ambition,
Macbeth makes a decision that haunts not only him, but his wife till their death. He then faces the
consequences of his actions when he loses everything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Macbeth is represented throughout the play as both fair but also unjust. In the beginning of the play,
Macbeth was an honorable general and stayed loyal to his king. He was shown as a brave and daring
soldier, but it was clear that he lacked confidence. When the witches prophesied that he would be
king, he allowed fate to play itself out. After talking to his wife, Lady Macbeth, she pushed him to do
something he probably would have never done without her influence. She got in his mind and
convinced him that killing Duncan, the thane of Cawdor was the only solution. While plotting to kill
Duncan, the whole scenario terrified him. Like every tragic play, his tragic flaw led him into
destruction. Throughout the play, Macbeth s true character is shown. He showed no pity for Banquo or
Macduff s family when he murdered them. He completely shifted from a kind general that cared about
his king to a ruthless murderer. After Seyton comes back and alerts Macbeth that his wife has died,
Macbeth announces, ...Out, Out, brief candle (Shakespeare 5.5. 26). Macbeth uses the candle as a
metaphor to describe that life is delicate. Once the candle s flame is out, our life is nothing and we are
nothing. Macbeth thinks life is not important because nothing lasts for an eternity. His character
shifted because it seemed to be in the beginning that he was happy and full of life. His idea of how a
man should act motivated his actions. Macbeth s morals had dramatically changed as well. His
outlook on life has changed after he committed all of the murders. Macbeth said in the beginning that
he would not try to change his fate but he killed everyone that got in his way of becoming king. At
first he was loyal to the king, he later did everything in his power to kill the king. Macbeth begins to
think that life is pointless and when you die nothing will matter anyway. He ends his soliloquy with
two bold words, ...Signifying

Johannes Brahmms German Requiem Essay
From a young age, Johannes Brahms loved the era of music he was born into in the 1830 s and
eventually went on to shape and redefine the music of the Romantic period he was born in with his
revolutionary composition the German Requiem. The romantic period was a movement in art and
literature that started in the 18th century. This revolution emphasized on inspiration, subjectivity and
how the individual felt about the art. Morner, Kathleen and Ralph Rausch Friedrich Schlegel is given
credit for first using the term romantic to describe literature, defined it as literature depicting
emotional matter in an imaginative form. Johannes Brahms took the ideas of Romanticism and shaped

Even in the late stages of Romanticism it was still being viewed as questionable and still received
harsh criticism regularly. From the Requiems first conception it was being criticized because of
Brahms choice to use Martin Luther s translation. Although there were Lutherans in Vienna, where the
requiem was first performed in 1867, some still thought of Luther as a radical and Brahms being part
of the Romantic movement only got him more criticism. Some critics thought that because of the
choice of words it was not suitable to be performed in a church. The work continued to receive
criticism until the fifth movement was added in September 1868. After this part was added the
Requiem began to be performed in almost every German major city except for Vienna. Like those in
Vienna those in the United States rejected the song as true performance quality and labeled it as
difficult and overly academic . Most Catholics of the time rejected it so the piece received more appeal
in England and parts of German than anywhere else and was debated by critics for more than forty
years if the song could be considered a relevant piece of art. By 1900 the Requiem was given
worldwide acclaim for its technical skill as well as appeal in combining older traditions on the
Romantic era with new or modern tonal and harmonic

Symptoms And Treatment Of Infectious Diseases
Infectious diseases are the result of a failed relationship between the parasite and the host. It s the
outline of the vectors of both agents and ranges in harshness from human rabies to the common cold.
The improvements of vaccines, medicines, public services, and improved nutrition have helped
decrease the amount of infectious diseases that causes death in our world. The advance in therapeutics
and consequent alteration of the host defense mechanisms have had a huge increase on the incidence
of infectious diseases of medical progress. Most occurrences of illnesses the specific reasons why a
particular combination results in a given clinical picture are not clear. Chance plays a role in all
infectious diseases. A person could be in the wrong place at the wrong time. What happens after
depends on the amount of host factors. All infectious diseases start at the surface of the host. The only
exception is certain intrauterine transmitted infections. The initial barrier is the skin, respiratory tract,
or the gastrointestinal tract. The specific surface involved relates to how the microorganism reaches
the host. Most infectious diseases begin with exposure to the infectious agent. Following that in an
incubation period and then the manifestations of the disease. An inflammatory response usually brings
patients to a doctor because of the discomfort and loss of function by the patient. It is possible that you

Emily St. John Mandel uses it to showcase that that act of escaping reality is an immortal practice. In

Gray Markets LVMH has found that gray markets, markets where a firm s product are sold or resold
through unauthorized dealers, are a significant problem. In Japan, handbags cost more than 40% more
than they did in France (Nikoemeran). This difference in price created a gray market where groups
from Japan would fly to France to purchase Louis Vuitton handbags for resale through parallel
channels in Japan. These gray markets can create a number of problems for LVMH. The first is the
dilution of the exclusivity, where the exclusive rights of distributors are watered down due to the
influx of additional distributors of the same product. The result is a drop in margins for distributor
(Sloan). A second problem gray markets create is free riding. Free riding occurs when authorized
distributors start skimping on important services they provide to promote a product, such as presale
service, education on product attributes and sales person training. This reduction in services causes the
customers of high end brands, who value these services, to abandon the brand (Sloan). The third
problem caused by gray markets is damage to channel relationships. Manufacturers spend a lot of time
and money establishing relationships with their distribution network. The result of gray markets is
unhappy distributor(s) that could greatly affect the flow of a manufacturer s product and therefore
could be very costly (Sloan).

see or hear. He also says: Our political culture teaches us to learn to be ignorant about politics. Our
generation is one that has more exposure than any prior generation to twenty four hour reports on
multi media devices. Thanks to the internet and the World Wide Web, we have at our disposal many
viewpoints and a wealth of information. This does not necessarily mean that our generation is more
informed or knowledgeable than prior ones. Not all information we are exposed to is true or unbiased.
Learning what is true and what is not true is harder today than it once was . This statement by the
author of our text could refer to the fact that our technology today is so advanced that photographs and
videos can be altered in such a way that no one is the wiser. Just because you are shown a photo or
video does not mean it is a realistic representation of what actually happened. You cannot always
believe what you see. One example of manipulation to a photo is an article in the LA Times

Crisis
Crisis
Crisis! Anytime we, as a society, hear this word our ears perk up and the speaker has our attention.
Usually when we hear crisis we think that it is something with the distinct possibility of a highly
undesirable outcome (Merriam Webster) that calls for immediate response. President George W. Bush
says that we are in a national energy crisis (Is Yucca Mountain in Nevada a safe disposal site?). Bush
has proposed a solution, storing all of our nation s nuclear waste in Nevada s Yucca Mountain, but has
been met with much resistance from Nevada residents and politicians and environmental groups.
The proposal is that Yucca Mountain will be a permanent disposal facility for two types of nuclear
energy. Spent energy is from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lisa Gue, a policy analyst with Public Citizen says, Yucca Mountain is an unsuitable site for an
unsuitable project.
Many of the environmentalists oppose Yucca Mountain because they believe that the waste could
contaminate our water supply. They believe that water could corrode the canisters and then the United
States would be confronting a catastrophe. However, a study, conducted by the DOE, found that even
if water would erode the canisters of waste, the waste would still have to pass through one thousand
feet of rock to contaminate an underground water supply. Obviously, this fifteen year study, completed
in 1998, greatly encouraged progression towards completion of Yucca Mountain. Despite these
findings, skeptics still believe that water could be contaminated and claim that because the study was
conducted by the DOE which is pro Yucca Mountain that it should be disregarded as biased.
The largest problem confronting Yucca Mountain is transporting the radioactive waste from temporary
storage sites. The waste would be transported by truck and train. Inevitably, accidents would occur
during this process. The DOE says that special shipping casks should prevent any major impacts from
any accidents. Critics, who have dubbed the Yucca Mountain plan Mobile Chernobyl, say that the
combination of diesel fuel fires and radioactive waste could seriously pollute our nation s

A Sword of Justice or Just Ice
With great power comes great responsibility. Although he would appear to replay Who cares? to this,
Hamlet, one of literature s most famous and powerful users of wit is actually using his wit to further
his ambitious cause. Through the use of Hamlet s wordplay, Shakespeare reveals the true nature of
Hamlet s inner self as well as his relationships with the other characters within the play.
Hamlet s diction reflects his relationship with the person he is speaking to when he uses wordplay. For
example, he tells Claudius that he is A little more than kin but less than kind. (1,2,65) Translated, this
is a play on words as he is refuting Claudius s previous statement about Hamlet being his son. The
definedly hostile relationship Hamlet has towards Claudius is easily seen through his wordplay, but
the meaning is taken simply at face value by the rest of the characters who are clueless to Hamlet s
true intentions. This idea is stressed in Hamlet s follow up statement that his too much in the sun
(1,2,67), another pun that shows his hostility to Claudius. This idea of Hamlet s connection between
the Sun and Claudius is seen again in his encounter with Polonius when he says, For if the sun breed
maggots in dead dog, being a good kissing carrion have you a daughter? (2,2,180 181). This statement
irrevocably connects Ophelia, Polonius s daughter to the sun or Claudius as

Comparing The Frog Prince By Robert Coover And Joyce Thomas
It has been debated on whether or not the transformation from a slam on a wall to a kiss shows female
empowerment in the various versions of The Frog Prince. Modern writers have expressed their stance
on how the kiss functions within the story to transform characters and deliver them to their happily
ever after. Other implications of the kiss would be it s ability to serve as a means of empowerment for
women and whether it aids to overcome the patriarchy. Robert Coover s and Joyce Thomas s versions
of The Frog Prince offer two contemporary perspectives on the transformation of the prince and
princess and the resulting happily ever after. Robert Coover s The Frog Prince is a reinforcement of
the gender/sex role expectations because the main female character is dependent on the man for her
means of a happily ever after. There was not a kiss to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, in The Frog Prince poem, she excludes the kiss entirely and instead keeps the original wall

their contract sealed with her lips. So rather than love, he is transformed by hate as his entrails was

innocence. Hate transforms into love and the two live happily ever

Disney Princess Stereotypes
Introduction
Written by a collaboration of research authors, Pretty as a Princess: Longitudinal Effects of
Engagement with Disney Princesses on Gender Stereotypes, Body Esteem, and Prosocial Behavior in
Children was published in 2016. Sarah M. Coyne (Brigham Young University), Jennifer Ruh Linder
(Linfield College), Eric E. Rasmussen (Texas Tech University), and David A. Nelson and Victoria
Birkbeck (Brigham Young University) discuss in writing the connotative and denotative effects of a
gender stereotyped society. They research the effects of Disney Princess culture and emphasize the
characteristics developed within the minority of preschool and kindergarten age children, especially
females, that potentially are exposed to the Disney Princess chain. The audience for the author s
message is a wide range of groups and individuals, but, at its widest scope, the research project is
intended for multinational media corporations, specifically those of whom are based in the United
States, target the control group (preschoolers and kindergarteners), and have the opportunity to
incorporate gender stereotypical characters into their products.
Although other readers will also find the results useful, especially other social science workers, the
professional medium and high profile endorsements and financial support given to this project
correlates directly with the large scale audience it is intended for. With respect to the genre through
which the Pretty as a Princess (Abbreviated)

Good evening, parents, and family of children in the Mt. Pleasant Schools District and thank you for

Race Riots Advancement for African Americans in America Essay
Race riots in America is a story told so little, but a story that is key to the hard work and road laid for
African Americans. In the 20th century in times where we knew African Americans fought persistently
for Civil Rights, seldom is their the story about the early 20th century. In the beginnings of the 20th
century Riots broke out across all of the United States, over eight issues which included the following:
Prejudice, Economic Competition, Political Corruption and Exploitation of Negro Voters, Police
Inefficiency, Newspaper Lies about Negro Crime, Unpunished Crimes Against Negroes, Housing,
Reaction of Whites and Negroes from War. Over the course of a span of fifty years more than eight
riots broke out, including Wilmington race ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meaning there was an over throw of the government, kicking out all African Americans out of their
political offices.
History tells us in brief that the race riot began from Alexander Manly s response about interracial
relations claims made by Rebecca L Felton. When there is not enough religion in the pulpit to
organize a crusade against sin; nor justice in the court house to promptly punish crime; nor manhood
enough in the nation to put a sheltering arm about innocence and virtue if it needs lynching to protect
woman s dearest possession form the ravening human beasts then I say lynch, a thousand times a
week if necessary. Meaning White men are making it easy for African Americans to rape white
women while they work out in their fields. Manly, a paper editor and owner of the Wilmington Daily
Record responded to these claims, which are to be expected since he is mulatto. Manly responded
stating that African American men are not rapist and push for these relations. Realistically we know
this is not the only cause.
Wilmington was a city on the rise, having the ability to be the biggest, richest urban city in America;
Today s Atlanta. The population consisted of strong middle class, and professionals; contrary to many
people thoughts, All African Americans were not enslaved, poor or illiterate. Many former slaves
moved to Wilmington following the war; to make certain that they could remain, there was a
Freedmen s Bureau office set up.

Schindler s List Of The Holocaust Essay
Schindler s List was one of the first critically acclaimed Holocaust films in the United States. Director
Steven Spielberg set out to make a historically accurate film about Oskar Schindler, portrayed by
Liam Neeson, and his Jews. It has been over 20 years since the film s release and Schindler s List
continues to reign supreme when it comes to Holocaust films. However, this is not to say that the film
has not been without controversy specifically surrounding the film s historical accuracy. While often
hailed for its accuracy, it would be inaccurate to imply the film is completely correct. Spielberg
sacrifices historical accuracy numerous times for the sake of manipulating the audience and telling the
Holocaust story that he believes should be told, a story that puts Schindler in the forefront while the
Jews take a backseat. The historical inaccuracies of the film led to the assumption that Schindler s List
is less about the Jews and the Holocaust and more about Schindler, making the film to be more of a
biopic. The portrayal of Jews in Schindler s List has been critiqued and remained problematic since
the film was released in 1993. Per Spielberg, Schindler s List was supposed to be a Jewish film that
was by Jews, about Jews, and for Jews to use against non Jews. However, the film often missed the
mark to show this. The film, which focuses mostly on Schindler, makes the Jews out to be passive
victims who willingly accepted their fate until Schindler arrives. For

How Is Lance Armstrong A Hero
Lance Armstrong once said, If you ever get a second chance for something, you ve got to go all the

cyclist who broke records throughout his entire career. His talent couldn t go unnoticed considering all
of the first place trophies he received. As a result of his numerous accomplishments, he was looked up
upon by many people. Not only was he an incredible athlete, but he also survived sickness, started
charities, and wrote a novel about his life. In fact, his downfall was a result of him wanting to get back
on his bike after he survived cancer. Although Lance Armstrong was an extremely successful cyclist
and influential person for many people, he can be considered a tragic hero because he cheated by
using performance enhancing drugs, therefore ending his career immediately. Throughout his life,

The Sea Of The Cave
The lush green slopes of the kelp beds had long since faded away, an ash and charcoal sand taking its
place, dotted here and there by dark and gnarled husks of those who had ventured through before, and
the innocent looking gray vines that had ensnared them. Swaying slightly in the current these vines
looked as dead as the rest of the landscape, calm and deceptively innocent. Suddenly, the sea bed
changes, a glassy surface of polished stones slope down towards a deep dark hole dominating the
murky darkness ahead. In the center of this dark hole a shimmering light is barely visible. A sirens call
to lure you in. It is the sea witches lair and once you have seen the light you are caught just as surely

Um, I.. I... was just going over the river and through the wood to grandmas.
I think that s a different story honey. But, you are here for something yes? You can nod your head how
great for you. Well, the cost depends on what you ask for, but know that my prices, well baby, they re
steep. You look confused, do you want to know why are they so steep? Another head nod, really?
Okay, well do you want the truth or the lie that matches the idea you have in your head of me as a
cruel and evil monster? You know what never mind, one truth bomb coming up. Not that you re going
to believe me, but the truth is, the higher the price the more it deters people from making stupid
decisions they will regret. It s my last ditch effort to make them really consider what they are asking
and what they are willing to give up for it. Now before you let your thoughts of me as a monster with
no compassion run rampant. Before you let what the world has told you of me cloud the reality that
stands before you, let me let you in on a little secret sweetie, your view of the world and who and what
is in it is very limited. You can only think inside the tight little bubble of what you ve been told, and
you re going to die never having lived as long as you keep looking at the world through yourself.
Open up kiddo, let the world show you what it is instead of trying to manhandle it into being what you
think it should be. Trust me, that doesn t work out well in the end. Aaaand

  • 2. The Lecture At The Angelica Library The Opportunity in Lecturing Things to Take From my Latest Historical Lecture at the Angelica Library On August 18th, 2016, I had presented a historical lecture on the Abolitionist History of Allegany County, at the Angelica Library. A number of times over the years I have given presentations and lectures at my local library, for the sake of helping to spread ideas and information to others, developing my skills, and other such purposes. I believe there is some use in reporting and reflecting upon it, and that there can be some things to take away from it. As part of my activities for during the summer break, I had figured I would give another historical lecture at the Angelica Library. I figured that it would be a useful continuity with some of the historical work that I have been doing. In the preceding semester I had written a paper on the abolitionist history of Allegany County for a class in American Slavery. Following this, I had uncovered some further information on aspects of the subject. When it came time for submissions to the annual Phi Alpha Theta regional history conference, I had decided to write another paper on the subject incorporating this additional information. I had presented this paper at the conference at Ithaca College during my speaking section. From that point I had also gained some other interesting bits of information to add on my knowledge on the matter. For instance, during another section of the conference I had listened to the presentation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These festivals include Winter Solstice, the shortest day, Summer Solstice, the longest day, and spring and Summer Equinoxes. Witches also honor their deities at monthly rites known asesbats, which are held on the full Moon, when the mind is thought to be more magically powerful. Sabbats begin at sunset and end at sunset the next day. Along with Sabbats there are festivals also known as rites, these are held at night. Rites take place in a consecrated space, the circle, and even if there is a temple, the circle space is created anew for each rite. The space is first swept with a broomstick or besom to purify it and then blessed with the four elements;air, fire, water and earth. The circle is then symbolically sealed by drawing a circle around it in the air with a wooden wand or a black handled knife known as an athame. The four directions; east, south, west and north ,are then honored. Within the sacred space, the Goddess and God are invoked and magic performed. Rituals usually end with blessing a chalice of wine and cakes that are shared among the participants. The movement of the exercise simulates sport specific movements that are transferable for enhanced sport performance outcome. Plyometric exercises can help athletes increase strength, explosive speed and reaction time, which in turn will increase speed and vertical height. Activating the stretch shortening cycle increases power output and concentric phase of the movement (Watkins, 2013). The muscle is loaded with a lengthening motion, followed immediately by a concentric shortening motion. In combination, the series is called the stretch shortening cycle. The muscle spindle in the muscle being activated detects a change in the length of muscle. Therefore, the muscles and tendons react reflexively to provide protection. • 7. Social Otherness In David Harsent s Duffel Bag Composers of texts often use language devices to convey the ways in which social otherness impacts upon one s perspective. The language devices employed by the composer show that social otherness is capable of completely altering the viewpoint that one holds. It can change the way that people perceive things entirely, therefore changing them as a person given that one s perceptive ability defines their overall character. This use of language devices gestures towards the character development made possible by the impacts of, and direct interaction with social otherness. To exemplify the impacts of one s perspective on social otherness, composers use language devices such as; slang, metaphors and irony. In Edward Albee s The Zoo Story a play detailing the meeting of two drastically different men, Peter, who is on the higher side of the social hierarchy and Jerry, who is on the lower side, the effects of Jerry s perspective on his state of social otherness are greatly significant. The activities required for food items to be extracted from its source and delivered to your plate must go through a cycle called a value chain. It consists of 2 sections; primary activities and secondary activities. Primary activities involved are inbound logistics, operations, outbound logistics, marketing and sales, and service until it reaches the hands and mouths of the consumer (Porter, 1985). Secondary activities include procurement, human resource management, technological development and infrastructure (Porter, 1985). The value chain requires both primary and secondary activities to work efficiently and effectively to ensure that goods get passed down stream to the market. Businesses invest in value chains as they are designed to enhance the value of the product through effective coordination of operational and organizational support activities (Gooch, 2005). • 16. Importance Of Biblical Worldview Wolters writes in his book, Creation Regained, that a worldview is almost essential to human beings because we cannot live without belief and guidance, which a worldview serves as (Wolters, 76). As Christians, we must have a biblical worldview, and in order to have a biblical worldview, it is critical for Christians to understand and discern structure and direction. Structure and direction are the main biblical themes, which Christians use to reform and renew every sector of their lives. I. Structure Structure is one aspect that defines an individual s worldview. Wolters defines structure as the essence of a creation that God placed in His creational law (Wolters, 682). It does not change despite human s perversity. For Christians, it is necessary to discern and understand structure since it is in all aspects of society, and it serves as a standard in all those areas. It acts as an anchor that provides definition and places boundaries and limits. As an example, a structure in government defines what it is supposed to do and places boundaries and limitations for it to run like a government, not like a school or a business. In a way, structure is God s mercy because not only does it set a limit for creations, but it also sets a limit on the enemy and prevents its dominion and bondage. Structure helps us to think about the questions in this world in a different perspective. It enables us to think in a Godly, scriptural perspective, which will serve as a guideline for us to ... That is, what previous knowledge did the author describe as a foundation for the study in the review of related literature ? The background for the research study provided insight into the theoretical and pedagogical aspect of using native language (L1) with a focus on the aspects that most relate to adult ESL classes. The areas addressed were both the affective aspects of learning related to bilingualism and academic development and the effective classroom practices. Knowing that individuals organize and learn information by thinking and feeling, teachers need to keep in mind that the emotional self is a strong factor in learning. Native language is an important part of culture and creating opportunities for using L1 might be quite beneficial to learning the target language (TL), in this case English. The nature of bilingualism was addressed and as Huerta Macias and Kephart cited Cook (1992), learners cannot simply shut down their knowledge of one language when using the other. Adults whose cognitive development exceeds their linguistic ability in the TL may find an English only class frustrating. Another important element of the background research was the understanding that adults will learn English differently than students in a K 12 setting. For adults, language is best taught through content, as a tool for communicating and learning. Use of L1 in adult ESL classrooms serves multiple purposes, such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. College Is Not Good Memories Essay When I think back to when I was in college, nothing but good memories comes to mind. College was by far the best time of my life. If I could sum it up, college would be the best four year party that I will ever attend. I remember it like it was yesterday; going to class, playing football and pretty much being a kid, but this time mom and dad wasn t around to tell you your bedtime. Even though college was a blast, the effects of college played a huge role in molding me to the young man I am today. By choosing to go to college and graduate, I was able to do something nobody in my family has ever done before, and that was play a collegiate sport. I was also able to walk away with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil Engineering Technology. But every good story must come to an end, but in this case, every great four year party must come to an end. When that party ended, I also was left with a fat bill called student loans. If I knew as an 18 year old kid what debt I would be getting myself into, things might have been a little different. The effect of me going to college brings me to my first love, football. I played the game of football since I was 4th grade. It never dawned on me that one day it would take me to college. I played four years as a strong safety for the Colorado University Pueblo Thunderwolves, three of them as a starter. They had the largest eyeballs (up to 264mm in diameter), of all vertebrates which were supported by a ring of sclerotic bones, these eyes were adapted to help them find prey in low light environments (Motani, 2009). Ichthyosaurus also had large ear bones, scientists believe this was an adaptation that allowed them to locate their prey by listening for their arrival through the water . This adapation was also a useful way for them to listen for predators that may be approaching (Fisher et al, 2016). After talking to his wife, Lady Macbeth, she pushed him to do something he probably would have never done without her influence. She got in his mind and convinced him that killing Duncan, the thane of Cawdor was the only solution. While plotting to kill Duncan, the whole scenario terrified him. Like every tragic play, his tragic flaw led him into destruction. Throughout the play, Macbeth s true character is shown. He showed no pity for Banquo or Macduff s family when he murdered them. He completely shifted from a kind general that cared about his king to a ruthless murderer. After Seyton comes back and alerts Macbeth that his wife has died, Macbeth announces, ...Out, Out, brief candle (Shakespeare 5.5. 26). Morner, Kathleen and Ralph Rausch Friedrich Schlegel is given credit for first using the term romantic to describe literature, defined it as literature depicting emotional matter in an imaginative form. Johannes Brahms took the ideas of Romanticism and shaped and ultimately made Romanticism what it is viewed as today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even in the late stages of Romanticism it was still being viewed as questionable and still received harsh criticism regularly. From the Requiems first conception it was being criticized because of Brahms choice to use Martin Luther s translation. Although there were Lutherans in Vienna, where the requiem was first performed in 1867, some still thought of Luther as a radical and Brahms being part of the Romantic movement only got him more criticism. Some critics thought that because of the choice of words it was not suitable to be performed in a church. The work continued to receive criticism until the fifth movement was added in September 1868. After this part was added the Requiem began to be performed in almost every German major city except for Vienna. Like those in Vienna those in the United States rejected the song as true performance quality and labeled it as difficult and overly academic . Most Catholics of the time rejected it so the piece received more appeal in England and parts of German than anywhere else and was debated by critics for more than forty years if the song could be considered a relevant piece of art. By 1900 the Requiem was given worldwide acclaim for its technical skill as well as appeal in combining older traditions on the Romantic era with new or modern tonal and harmonic ... It s the outline of the vectors of both agents and ranges in harshness from human rabies to the common cold. The improvements of vaccines, medicines, public services, and improved nutrition have helped decrease the amount of infectious diseases that causes death in our world. The advance in therapeutics and consequent alteration of the host defense mechanisms have had a huge increase on the incidence of infectious diseases of medical progress. Most occurrences of illnesses the specific reasons why a particular combination results in a given clinical picture are not clear. Chance plays a role in all infectious diseases. A person could be in the wrong place at the wrong time. What happens after depends on the amount of host factors. All infectious diseases start at the surface of the host. The only exception is certain intrauterine transmitted infections. The initial barrier is the skin, respiratory tract, or the gastrointestinal tract. The specific surface involved relates to how the microorganism reaches the host. Most infectious diseases begin with exposure to the infectious agent. Literary Techniques In Station 11 Theme: Emily St. John Mandel, in her novel Station Eleven, uses the literary technique of space imagery to argue that escapism is an immortal practice that is always a choice when facing reality, regardless of how positive or negative that reality is. In Station Eleven space imagery is prevalent, and Emily St. John Mandel uses it to showcase that that act of escaping reality is an immortal practice. In the book there is many a mention to a particular quote form the hit series Star Trek: Voyager. John Mandel uses space imagery to show that escapism is always a choice when facing reality, regardless of how positive or negative that reality is. She shows that escapism is an immortal practice by inserting instances and situations both before and long after the flu. When Tyler insists on reading his comic books over and over again to avoid his dilemma in the airport, Kirsten lets herself imagine that she remember[s] the specific episode of Star Trek: Voyager, and Miranda returns to Station 11, they all escape using space as a tool. Space represents the ability to break away from reality because of how boundless, dark, and mysterious it is. Space will always be around just like Mandel argues that escapism is. She shows that it is an option despite the state of the predicament by showing it used in both negative and positive contexts. Clark, who uses it in a negative situation, uses escapism to imagine ships moving over the water once again. Arthur uses it in a more positive state of affairs to imagine his future life in Jerusalem with his son. No matter the situation or the time, escapism is a viable option and ... This industry has endured global economic downturns in advanced economies such as the United States requiring them to branch out of their comfort zones and expand into emerging markets specifically the BRIC countries. These Asian nations possess high GDP rates that are anticipated to increase significantly in the upcoming years. Gray Markets LVMH has found that gray markets, markets where a firm s product are sold or resold through unauthorized dealers, are a significant problem. In Japan, handbags cost more than 40% more than they did in France (Nikoemeran). This difference in price created a gray market where groups from Japan would fly to France to purchase Louis Vuitton handbags for resale through parallel channels in Japan. These gray markets can create a number of problems for LVMH. The first is the dilution of the exclusivity, where the exclusive rights of distributors are watered down due to the influx of additional distributors of the same product. The result is a drop in margins for distributor (Sloan). A second problem gray markets create is free riding. Free riding occurs when authorized distributors start skimping on important services they provide to promote a product, such as presale service, education on product attributes and sales person training. This reduction in services causes the customers of high end brands, who value these services, to abandon the brand (Sloan). The third problem caused by gray markets is damage to channel relationships. Manufacturers spend a lot of time and money establishing relationships with their distribution network. The result of gray markets is unhappy distributor(s) that could greatly affect the flow of a manufacturer s product and therefore could be very costly (Sloan). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The difficulty is not because of a lack of information. We have more information and more points of view available to us than ever in history. A few clicks on any topic and you get thousands of entries. In fact, perhaps we get too much information. We get so much that we are often overwhelmed.... A second problem today is that we should not necessarily believe what we see or hear. He also says: Our political culture teaches us to learn to be ignorant about politics. Our generation is one that has more exposure than any prior generation to twenty four hour reports on multi media devices. Thanks to the internet and the World Wide Web, we have at our disposal many viewpoints and a wealth of information. This does not necessarily mean that our generation is more informed or knowledgeable than prior ones. Not all information we are exposed to is true or unbiased. Learning what is true and what is not true is harder today than it once was . This statement by the author of our text could refer to the fact that our technology today is so advanced that photographs and videos can be altered in such a way that no one is the wiser. Lisa Gue, a policy analyst with Public Citizen says, Yucca Mountain is an unsuitable site for an unsuitable project. Many of the environmentalists oppose Yucca Mountain because they believe that the waste could contaminate our water supply. They believe that water could corrode the canisters and then the United States would be confronting a catastrophe. However, a study, conducted by the DOE, found that even if water would erode the canisters of waste, the waste would still have to pass through one thousand feet of rock to contaminate an underground water supply. Obviously, this fifteen year study, completed in 1998, greatly encouraged progression towards completion of Yucca Mountain. Despite these findings, skeptics still believe that water could be contaminated and claim that because the study was conducted by the DOE which is pro Yucca Mountain that it should be disregarded as biased. The largest problem confronting Yucca Mountain is transporting the radioactive waste from temporary storage sites. The waste would be transported by truck and train. Inevitably, accidents would occur during this process. The DOE says that special shipping casks should prevent any major impacts from any accidents. Although he would appear to replay Who cares? to this, Hamlet, one of literature s most famous and powerful users of wit is actually using his wit to further his ambitious cause. Through the use of Hamlet s wordplay, Shakespeare reveals the true nature of Hamlet s inner self as well as his relationships with the other characters within the play. Hamlet s diction reflects his relationship with the person he is speaking to when he uses wordplay. For example, he tells Claudius that he is A little more than kin but less than kind. (1,2,65) Translated, this is a play on words as he is refuting Claudius s previous statement about Hamlet being his son. The definedly hostile relationship Hamlet has towards Claudius is easily seen through his wordplay, but the meaning is taken simply at face value by the rest of the characters who are clueless to Hamlet s true intentions. This idea is stressed in Hamlet s follow up statement that his too much in the sun (1,2,67), another pun that shows his hostility to Claudius. This idea of Hamlet s connection between the Sun and Claudius is seen again in his encounter with Polonius when he says, For if the sun breed maggots in dead dog, being a good kissing carrion have you a daughter? Sarah M. Coyne (Brigham Young University), Jennifer Ruh Linder (Linfield College), Eric E. Rasmussen (Texas Tech University), and David A. Nelson and Victoria Birkbeck (Brigham Young University) discuss in writing the connotative and denotative effects of a gender stereotyped society. They research the effects of Disney Princess culture and emphasize the characteristics developed within the minority of preschool and kindergarten age children, especially females, that potentially are exposed to the Disney Princess chain. The audience for the author s message is a wide range of groups and individuals, but, at its widest scope, the research project is intended for multinational media corporations, specifically those of whom are based in the United States, target the control group (preschoolers and kindergarteners), and have the opportunity to incorporate gender stereotypical characters into their products. • 50. Schindler s List Of The Holocaust Essay Schindler s List was one of the first critically acclaimed Holocaust films in the United States. Director Steven Spielberg set out to make a historically accurate film about Oskar Schindler, portrayed by Liam Neeson, and his Jews. It has been over 20 years since the film s release and Schindler s List continues to reign supreme when it comes to Holocaust films. However, this is not to say that the film has not been without controversy specifically surrounding the film s historical accuracy. While often hailed for its accuracy, it would be inaccurate to imply the film is completely correct. Spielberg sacrifices historical accuracy numerous times for the sake of manipulating the audience and telling the Holocaust story that he believes should be told, a story that puts Schindler in the forefront while the Jews take a backseat. The historical inaccuracies of the film led to the assumption that Schindler s List is less about the Jews and the Holocaust and more about Schindler, making the film to be more of a biopic. The portrayal of Jews in Schindler s List has been critiqued and remained problematic since the film was released in 1993. Per Spielberg, Schindler s List was supposed to be a Jewish film that was by Jews, about Jews, and for Jews to use against non Jews. However, the film often missed the mark to show this. The film, which focuses mostly on Schindler, makes the Jews out to be passive victims who willingly accepted their fate until Schindler arrives. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
